Ben and Jerry s Case Study
Q.1: Action recommendations: What should Yola Carlough do regarding political voice, employee
morale, and product development?
Yola Carlough was the head of Social Mission in Ben and Jerry s, and she had to face many issues
concerning the mission statement of the company, such as political voice, employee morale and
product development. It was hard for her to integrate the social beliefs of Ben and Jerry s into the
code of conduct of Unilever.
Employee Morale:
Prior to the acquisition, employees of Ben and Jerry s saw the company as a network of family and
friends in which they were all fully involved and integrated. Ben and Jerry s had a policy in which
no one was fired. They developed a 2 year grace period with ... Show more content on

It would not have made more sense to forge an alliance with Ben and Jerry s because both
benefited more from the acquisition than they would have from an alliance.
Firstly, Ben and Jerry s was developing and becoming more and more popular every day, and
they were unable to satisfy demand due to restricted production facilities. They needed larger
facilities and more labor in order to increase production. Unilever were able to support Ben and
Jerry s distribution network, and to give them the ability to enter new markets. Ben and Jerry s
had reached their highest point, and so were unable to do this alone. An alliance would have
been possible, but had an alliance been forged, it would not have been profitable enough for
Unilever, because it would not have made sense for Unilever to forge an alliance with a company
who had already reached their highest point. Therefore, in order to help Ben and Jerry s meet the
demands of the market, and to restructure the manufacturing process, it made more sense for
Unilever to acquire Ben and Jerry s than to form an alliance with them.
Considering the sizes of the two companies, it would have been naГЇve and ignorant to forge an
alliance. When forming alliances, it is important that the two companies be similar in some ways,
and size is an extremely important factor to consider. Unilever was a large

Should the death penalty be brought back in the United Kingdom?
The topic I have chosen to argue about is whether the death penalty id a good thing or bad thing to
bring back to Britain, Throughout the Assessment I will be mostly focusing on the question on
whether the death penalty should be brought back. To start off the essay will on the history of
Capital Punishment and why the death penalty was stopped in the first place, after it will show the
wrongly convicted people of having the death penalty punishment and how it can effect on society.
After that I will be describing the advantages and disadvantages of having the death penalty back

There was a movie made about the case and event called let him Ave it, Chris . Many people who
were religious say Capital punishment was a sign of evil, cruelty and no one deserves to be put to
death.
When something changes in our life time it does make a difference in our lives, the death penalty
will change our way of living; criminals will need to be smart and think twice. I personally think
that if someone should be convicted for any crime to be put to death, the crime should for murders,
abuse and for any rapes to harm another person for life. I believe that the death penalty should be
back but not used a lot or limited so Britain can lower any wrongly convicted and get the proper
punishment for murderers who have killed. The death penalty is a cruel ting I agree with that but
not for murders they deserve it no questions needed even though the victim of any murder could of
had an even horrible death than the murderer who could be convicted of murder. This will act as a
major deterrent, it will stop criminals killing to get a better life in jail than their

The Era Of The Late Nineteenth Century Reformers
In the late nineteenth century reformers efforts to save the Indians failed due to them taking away
their way of life having the conform to the ideas of the white Americans. Reformers attempt to help
the Native Americans was definitely unhelpful. The reformers main goal was to make them
conform to the way of life as white Americans. Reformers took them of their land, took away their
culture, and there was of life with new laws and reform that was supposed to help the Indians but
instead it hurt them and their culture. Also the younger generations were forced to study in schools
the white American way of life. They were taught the American history according to the white

Ella C. Deloria, A Yankton Soiux said It wasn t easy to make a spiritual and social adjustment. The
people were too used to living in large family groups, cooperatively and happily. Now, here they
were in little father mother child units often miles from their other relatives, trying to farm an arid
land. The Dawes Act was the answer to the White Reformer to please the American settlers that
were trying to take the land the Indians lived on and help stop the fighting that was going on
because of this land. The Dawes Act gave Native Americans a piece of their own land that allow
them to own it, which they did not hold the deed to. The Federal Government held the land in trust
for twenty five years awaiting the Indians becoming United States citizens. Despite the alleged
safeguards, tribal lands were often lost by fraud or coercion, so that, by 1934, white Americans
owned two thirds of lands originally reserved for Indians.(Schultz,327) The land given to the
Indians was undesirable to most because the land was barren and infertile making it hard for the
Indians to grow crops and survive of the land. Also with these reservations came schooling for the
children of the Indians. Reformers believed that teaching the Indians would help them understand
the laws and history of the United States and help with the literacy problem and preparing them for
American Citizenship. Commissioner of Indians Affairs, Thomas J. Morgan said

The Decay of Compact Discs
The decay of compact discs 1. Introduction Throughout the past recent years, the technologic
community has advanced at rapid rates, generating changes in all domains of life. As
technology brought more innovation in the lives of the Americans, it often forced out outdated
products and replaced them with newer and higher quality items. One product which seems to
be headed down this path is represented by the once very popular compact disc. The current
project sets out to assess its position within the modern day society and to see whether it could
have a more successful future in a different global region. 2. The product and its target market
The CD was first created by James Russell in 1965, but it did not attract major interest until
Phillips came to manufacture it in the 1980s decade. The compact disc as such gradually
transformed into the most popular means of storing computer data, such as music, pictures or
other types of files (Bellis). Today nevertheless, its position within the market is becoming
weaker as its popularity among the US consumers decreases. In 1997, there were a total of 62,236
stores in the associated industry category (451 Sporting goods, hobby, book and music stores,
NAICS code), a number which had decreased to 62,236 by 2002; by the latest census of 2007, the
number of establishments in the industry had decreased to 57,415. At that point, sales of music

Japanese Influence On America Essay
Japan was a loser of Second World War and the closest friend of America in Asia. The consequence
of the war and the rise of Japan as economic super power of the world had much meaning to
America policy in Asia. Japan s connection with the west can be traced back to the sixteenth century
when it began trading with Western countries, but was disrupted and the trading was banned due to
the connections with Christianity, but the relationship remained with East Asian dominated by
Chinese empire. And when the imperialism and colonization was the main stream, Asiabecame
more and more attractive to western main powers, many countries were colonized. Japan s success
in driving out the Europeans sparked the Asian nationalism and revolution against colonialism, but
japan had learned the lessons from the west that it would need a strong army for decisive use until
later turned itself into an even more brutal colonial power in Asia and ignited the war with America
in the Second World War.
The dropping of the atomic bombs by the American forced japan to surrender, transforming Japan
from a center of power into a power vacuum, but lesson learned from the unhappy occupation of
Europe, America immediately occupied Japan alone, denying an alliance s demand for ... Show

The Canadian Medical Association Defines Physician...
The Canadian Medical Association defines physician assisted death (PAD) as [when] a physician
knowingly and intentionally provides a person with the knowledge and/or means required to end
their own lives... . (A, p29) In Canada, suicide has been legal for years, but euthanasia and
physician assisted death have only recently been decriminalized in a court of law. However, until
2016, PAD can still be charged as culpable homicide under section 222 and 229 of the Criminal
Code of Canada. (B,K) The specifics of the debate on physician assisted death in Canada has, over
the decades, not significantly changed, but instead Canadians opinions have been shifted since

(B, K) However, it is first important to understand exactly what is being challenged and what
PAD really means. PAD is not to be confused with withdrawal of treatment, since patients have
the right to refuse life sustaining means, such as ventilator assistance or nourishment. (A, I) On
the other hand, PAD has been, up until recently, illegal, even though suicide without assistance
is not. (B) Critics of PAD have expressed concern about abuse and error in assisted death, but less
so about the same margins when it comes to the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment. They
say that there is a clear difference between the act of ending one s life and simply withdrawal of
treatment. (K) However, it is also important to note that this does not mean that those against
PAD are for preserving life at all costs, as witnessed by withdrawing care that does no more than
prolong suffering. (F) Proponents argue that the act of withdrawing life sustaining treatment is
just as likely to lead to death as a physician giving a lethal dose of a substance, so why are
physicians legally required to respect one choice, but not the other? (K) The end result of PAD is
comparable to actions that are legally performed by physicians, such as aggressive palliative care,
and withdrawal of life sustaining treatment. (K) Court Cases For many years, Canada s stance on
the ethical issues regarding PAD has been static, and the 1993 case of

Materials Engineering Of Photovoltaic Cells
Materials Engineering in Photovoltaic cells
In today s world when we think about energy sources, there are 2 classifications they can be split
into: renewable and non renewable sources of energy. Fossil fuels are the backbone for most of
the energy we use today. We need this fuel for almost all of our daily routine, from lighting a fire
to running heavy machinery, but with increase in population there has been an increasing
demand of such energy. Fuels like these tend to give massive amount of energy but also affect
the environment by producing harmful gases and residue. With the depletion of the fossil fuels
such as coal and petroleum we needed to switch to alternate form of energy which and there has
been an ever greater need for a cleaner and renewable form of energy. Humans have tried to find
many alternative (and renewable) forms of energy such as wind and water but not at a very large
scale. With an abundance of solar energy available to harvest, it is one of the most widely
cultivated renewable forms of energy.
Solar cells or photovoltaic are the primary devices that are able to harvest the sun s energy in a
form that can be used every day. Semiconductors are one of the more widely used materials in the
solar cells industry; however other materials such as organic photovoltaic, solution processed
solar cells and dye sensitized solar cells are also used in the market. To understand the basic
principle behind the working of a solar cell, we have to look down into the

In more simple terms, sexism is the false idea that one sex is superior or inferior to the other. In
sociology, sociologists focus on the differences that are determined by society, culture, and gender.
It is believed by social scientists that gender differences are not caused by biological differences.
Although humans are born male or female, individuals must learn and understand masculine or
feminine behaviors. Therefore, gender differences are a result of socialization, discrimination,
prejudice, and other forms of social control. For example, in the United States, a strong patriarchal
system is enforced among Mormon Fundamentalists. From a conflict and feministic perspective,
gender inequality or sexism exists because it benefits a group in the position of power and with
power to shape society. This power group is men. The theorists within these two perspectives argue
that as long as men maintain their social, economic, and cultural advantage within society that
women will remain in their subordinate position. This subordinate position women have within
society is linked to their relationship to the means of production (Leon Guerrero, 2014).
Statistically speaking, women who work 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what men make
working similar hours. However, women who work more than 60 hours per week only earn about
78.3% of what men do. In addition,

Theme Of No Name Woman
A common theme in both stories The Yellow Wallpaper by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and No
Name Woman by Maxine Hong Kingston is sexism and how some women struggle to find voices
in chauvinist societies. The narrator in The Yellow Wallpaper has a husband that is very controlling
and she must fight against the rigid role of housewife imposed upon her. In No Name Womanthe
narrator describes her aunt who is severely punished by her village for being impregnated by a
mysterious man. Both stories demonstrate struggles that are exclusive to women, while
illuminating the destruction that occurs to these women because of the oppression they receive
from men. The women in the stories suffered because of their sexist societies. Thus these stories...

The narrator laments, there comes John, and I must put this away, he hates to have me write a
word (Gilman 3). In other words, the narrator is not free to ask as she pleases and is forced to
write in secret because her husband will be angry. This proves that her husband limits her actions
while illuminating the hierarchical nature of their marriage. He is also taking away her freedom to
decide who she is because he is forcing her to only be a housewife when she really wants to be a
writer. The narrator expresses, I did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a
good deal having to be so sly about it, or else meet with heavy opposition (2). Basically, it s not
the act of writing that is tiring, it is hiding from her husband that exhausts her. This shows that
she would be much happier if her husband would cease his controlling behavior. The narrator
states, I lie down ever so much now...Indeed he started the habit by making me lie down for an
hour after each meal (10). In other words, her husband has limited her options so much that all she
can do is lay in bed all day. This oppressive treatment leads the narrator to act in peculiar

Social Differences Between North And South
By 1860, the United States seemed to be divided into two very different cultures Northern and
Southern. Write a three paragraph essay that explains the differences between the social structure,
economy, and political goals of the North and South.
By 1860 the cultures of the North and South were very different within the United States. For
example, the social structure in the North was focused on progress. It was easy for a hard working
person to rise to the top, which made the social structure less rigid. Men in the North believed that
getting a good education and working hard were the keys to success and the most important male

Because of crowded population, people had access to more activities separate from work and

structure. In the South, the man of the house owned his family servants and slaves. The man was
the head of the plantation, the leader in everything and part of an aristocracy. The most important
male social characteristics in the South were based on tradition, strength, honor and protection.
Southern women in the middle and upper classes were expected to focus on a good home,
manners and dress well. They could influence men but were expected not to say too much. The
social diversity of the South was minimal because there were fewer immigrants and a greater
separation between white and black people. Also, because people spent most of their time on their

Secret Santa Research Paper
The Most Popular Secret Santa Gifts
The tradition of giving anonymous gifts at Christmas has its roots in Scandinavia, where Secret
Santa is known as Julklapp. This word is a compound of Jul (which means Christmas ) and Klapp ,
which means knocking. In Scandinavian countries, tradition dictates that a person knocks loudly on
the door, opens the door and throws the gift into the room or otherwise leaves it behind without
being seen.
Secret Santa events during the Christmas period have developed their own culture and rules. These
naturally depend on the variation on Secret Santa that applies. For instance, Secret Santa raids have
different rules from Trashy Secret Santas and different rules again than Secret Santa flash mobs.

Essay on The Effects of Television Violence on Children
The Effects of Television Violence on Children
According to the Article ?Violence on Television? published by the American Psychological
Association at the website http://www.apa.org/pubinfo/violence.html, ?violent programs on
television lead to aggressive behavior by children and teenagers who watch those programs.? That
s the word from a 1982 report by the National Institute of Mental Health, a report that confirmed
and extended an earlier study done by the Surgeon General. As a result of these and other research
findings, the American Psychological Association passed a resolution in February 1985 informing
broadcasters and the public of the potential dangers that viewing violence on television can have for
children. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The researchers noticed real differences between the kids who watched the violent shows and
those who watched nonviolent ones. According to Aletha Huston, Ph.D., ?children who watch
the violent shows, even just funny cartoons, were more likely to hit out at their playmates,
argue, disobey class rules, leave tasks unfinished, and were less willing to wait for things than
those who watched the nonviolent programs.? Findings from the laboratory are further
supported by field studies, which have shown the long range effects of televised violence.
Leonard Eron, Ph.D., and his associates at the University of Illinois, found that children who
watched many hours of TV violence when they were in elementary school tended to also show a
?higher level of aggressive behavior? when they became teenagers. By observing these
youngsters until they were 30 years old, Dr. Eron found that the ones who ?had watched a lot of
TV when they were eight years old were more likely to be arrested and prosecuted for criminal acts
as adults?.
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that
influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children s programming, just
limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably

to the internet, becoming anonymous as never been easier, and is far more reaching than the
colonial newspapers of 1787. For some this ease at which we can communicate anonymous is cause
for concern. Although we are no longer hiding our identities to promote the ratification of the
Constitution, being anonymous still plays a large role in our society. Online anonymity grants
anyone with an internet connection an unbiased voice, regardless of gender, race, or wealth.
Without this freedom to online anonymity many people would not feel free to express themselves
or release sensitive information about themselves or about corruption, in the case of
whistleblowing. Anonymity can also be used as a security measure and prevent unauthorized
mining of personal information. Although multiple ethical framework will be used and compared,
using a consequence based framework will be the main examining point throughout. The use of the
term anonymous can be confusing from an online perspective. When speaking of anonymity in
such a sense it is not related to the degree of traceability, but to the lack of aspects such as image,
voice, and situation in the online social environment . Those against online

A New Idea For The Proposal Of Race
A New Idea for the Proposal of Race to the Students of UC Merced
Leo Alonso Cabrera
Professor Danielson
Writing 010 31
UC Merced
Introduction o Introduce the theme of your essay, which revolves around the concepts of race and
how college students choose to break social norms
College students are typically introduced to new, and often time radical ideas, that are very
different from the ones that they are shown in home.
Personal Anecdote: Before coming to school here in UCM, my dad would often talk to me in
many different occasions throughout my life about the concept of race and what it represents: o
Honor o Family o Education o Class
Many times he would emphasize to me that people of other races do not have the ability to value
the same things as a Hispanic would, and would many times reference the family of my Ex
Girlfriend, whose family is Native American and would often use stereotypes, such as Indian
Alcoholism to show me how their priorities are different than mine. She is not going to a UC, and
thus he makes that point of comparison on education to show how successful I am because of my
Hispanic values can surpass the concerns of an alcoholic Native American family.
Now propose the question o What is Race?
It is a concept that is created by Man to essentially control Man0 (The use of the law, Hudgins
v. Wright, p. 965).
According to Lopez, Race [to me] is defined as a vast group of people loosely bound together by

Synthetic Leases
Abstract
By now most of us have heard and read numerous articles about synthetic leases. We also know
synthetic lease transactions are relatively commonplace for financing corporate build to suits and
acquisitions, and that they are widely accepted by corporate real estate executives, financial
institutions, and accounting firms. But is the synthetic lease a panacea for the corporate executive
faced with a leasing decision? Are they the perfect solution for keeping real estate assets oil the
company balance sheet? Are there any drawbacks to a synthetic lease? Before entering into a
synthetic lease, the corporate tenant should know the potential shortcomings of a synthetic lease as
well as when and when not to use one. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Off balance sheet financing, for instance, operating and synthetic leases, not only overstates
corporate earnings and perjures their financial positions, it also allows them to preserve the ratios
needed to assure debt contracts. This decreases the authority of such contracts, because the
companies are not in reality keeping their debt ratios low; they re lying about the amount of debt
they actually have (Edman, 2011). Ethical professionals, who willfully present transparent financial
statements, are the only true way to prevent misconstrued financial statements. Likewise users of
financial data will always have their work cut out for them. Investors must be diligent to
discover a company s true financial state. FASB will never rid the world of every accounting
inconsistency (Edman, 2011). Synthetic leases can serve two important purposes: First, for
financial accounting purposes, they enable lessees/sponsors to treat leases as operating leases,
whereby payments are recorded as rent expense and the underlying assets and the associated
liabilities are kept off the lessee s balance sheet. This treatment of the lease enables the company
to show a stronger balance sheet than if the lease was treated as a capital lease (Soroosh and
Ciesielski, 2009). Second, for federal income tax purposes, these contracts are structured so that the
lessee/sponsor may treat the

Babbitt Vs. Sweet Home Case Study
The public policy of the ESA had multiple issues in the case of Babbitt v. Sweet Home Chapter.
There have been legislative issues between the ESA and Congress in regards to the inconsistency
of authority (Jennings, 2010). In addition, the lack of communication between Congress and the
FWA caused discrepancies on how to best protect the habitat (Jennings, 2010). The public policy
also has issues on an economic standpoint due to the cost of resources on the basis to support the
ESA or abolish the Act (Sahr, n.d.).
The argument of the people to recover and preserve endangered species was in fact to keep the ESA
policy. According to Sahr (n.d.) the ESA has been effective with the Act of protecting endangered
species from becoming extinct through

Contracts Case Study: Property

Introduction
In this case study, Barney is a client that running into an extreme case of misfortune facing several
issues that must be resolved in court. The issues will be outlined below with information to help
properly set Barney s expectations of his upcoming battle to keep his possessions. I have grouped
the issues based on the calls listed to the attorney in the case study.
Issue #1 mountain property that is currently in process of foreclosing includes a squatter

by a hostile participant. Barney tried to explain that he had the deed to prove the property belonged

In a similar case in Lakewood, Ohio, the Saleets were about to have their home, along with their
neighbors homes, taken to build new higher end condominiums. The mayor of the city had
pressed for the new development as a way to strengthen the tax base. In the end, the Lakewood
residents were able to reject the proposed development, remove the blight label from their
neighborhood and also voted the mayor out (Leung, 2009). Yes, the new resort would create jobs
to manage the resort, and increase the city s income and taxes, however, the area does not qualify
as one that requires this sort of enhancement. As stated in the Institute For Justice (2013) website
The justification the City had offered for the takings was that a new development would create
more jobs and taxes, but keep this in mind: anyone s home or small business would generate more
taxes as a shopping mall. If that can justify such takings, then literally no home or business would
be safe from this kind of abuse at the hands of government (para.3). Should Barney be unable to
win the opportunity to keep his home, fighting at least gives the chance to help get the best
available amount for what qualifies as full market value.
Issue #3 Auto theft gone wrong
While Barney is at local town authorities fighting for his beach property, he bumps into an old
girlfriend. He invites her to a fancy restaurant for dinner despite their casual attire. As Barney pulls

The Growing Problem of Food Intolerance
Food intolerance has been a growing problem. Symptoms can vary anywhere from nausea, skin
rashes, anemia, depressions to nutritional deficiencies as well as thyroid disease, kidney failure and
cancer. This research paper explores information regarding food intolerance looking specifically at
the role of gluten on the immune systemand how an elimination diet plays a role.
Gluten is a protein found in most cereal grains and is consumed in greater quantities than any other
form of protein. It has been estimated that 6% to 7% of the U.S population have been diagnosed to
be gluten sensitive, bringing that number to almost 20 million people. Intolerance to gluten relates
to gastrointestinal problems which include diarrhea, bloating and might result in consumption.
Other body systems that are affected are the central and peripheral nervous systems, the
integumentary system and the endocrine system. Berstad et al at Oslo s Lovisenberg Diaconale
Hospital studied 84 participants who have been referred to gastroenterologists for digestive
problems which the patients think are caused by sensitivities to certain kinds of foods. The results
of the study showed that all by one participant was qualified for irritable bowel syndrome. In
addition, 85% had symptoms indicating chronic fatigue syndrome and 74% showed symptoms of
fibromyalgia. In children, the neurodevelopmental disorders such as ASD, autism spectrum
disorders, have been on the increase since 1980 and with an average of 4.3:1

Considerations for the Design and Fabrication of a Boat...
Introduction As nations continue to expend their energies into expanding infrastructure, developing
technology and making key discoveries in healthcare, not enough attention is being spent on
protecting what the world has created or constructed already. Historical sites, National Monuments,
Key infrastructure and everyday items are constantly under attack from a natural phenomenon
known as corrosion. Every year over US $2.2 trillion is spent worldwide in repairing, and protecting
components and structures from corrosion. It is important that corrosion is considered in every
design process that is undertaken to enable components to operate at the highest efficiency for the
longest period of time. This will not only aid in the efficiency but also reduce the economic burden
of repairing and maintaining the component in question. An important component that is necessary
for global trade is a boat propeller. There are a large number of factors and considerations that must
be included into design and fabrication of a boat propeller. These include Environmental conditions,
operational conditions, Alloy selection and Maintenance. Environmental Conditions An
environment that corrosion is most prevalent in is the maritime environment. Any component, i.e. a
boat propeller, which is operating in a maritime environment, is subject to higher rates of corrosion
than that of components located in land away from the presence of an electrolytic substance such as
Sea Water. Boats are

The Relevance Of Justice In Plato s Republic
In Plato s Republic, Socrates engages in a dialogue to defend justice as a worthy virtue. His
conversation partners challenge him to legitimize a concept that is seemingly burdensome on those
who abide by it and is, at best, an inconsistent attempt at fairness for those it is meant to serve. In
Book I, Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus put forth flawed definitions of justicethat range
from limited to cynical and self serving. Socrates is able to refute their ill conceived perceptions
of righteousness and, in doing so, present a doctrine that leads to the benefit of those who adhere
to it and society at large. The central aim of said doctrine, education for the sake of knowing
goodness, is neglected by Socrates companions, yet is vital for ensuring a justice that is
desirable for both its consequences and its very essence. Cephalus, the first to offer a definition,
posits that justice is giving what is owed and conducting oneself with honesty. This appears to
be a commonplace yet strong image of justice, ingratiated within man s consciousness as the
ancient system of reward and retribution. Socrates, however, is quick in finding its limitations.
He puts forth the scenario of one who is in possession of a crazed man s weapon. Giving the man
his property would be a just action according to this definition; however, he may go on to harm
others with it (331c). Justice, they agree, could not result in this outcome. The only situation in
which this definition would be viable is one where every person has both full knowledge of the
good and is aware of all consequences that could arise from any action; circumstances such as
these are clearly impossible given human limitations. A parallel can be drawn between Socrates
refutation and elements of modern societies: for example, those who are deemed a threat to
themselves or others due to their mental state can be involuntarily committed to a controlled
environment for a set amount of time. This lends credence to Socrates idea of justice in that his
words, recorded over two thousand years ago, bear great relevance in societies far larger and more
complex than his own. Cephalus, seeing that his definition is lacking, excuses himself from the
dialogue.

SГёren Kierkegaard
People demand freedom of speech as a compensation for the freedom of thought which they
seldom use. Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world,
lets go back and take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, SГёren Kierkegaard. SГёren
Kierkegaard was born to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his
children. His father felt this was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair
with his 1st wife s maid. Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over
to a life of severe melancholy. Yet as a result of both his personal pain and brilliant mind, a literary
life few could surpass, and wisdom of thought (does that make sense) ensued.... Show more content

His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent
an immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that
he gave from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow,
in the patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in
how Abraham responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this
command is unfathomable, yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he
told him to sacrifice his son. Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son,
your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt
offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in
the command, when God says take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis
added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham
rose early in the morning. He notes that some men take this excerpt to men that Abraham was rising
early to faithfully carry out his duty. And while that has some truth to it, it is not complete,
Kierkegaard emphasizes the fact that he rose early, not because he got a great night of sleep, rather
that he wrestled with this command in

Similarities Between Sonnets From Love And The Great Gatsby
Elizabeth Barrett Browning s (EBB) Sonnets from the Portuguese (1846), written during the
Victorian period where women were slowly given rights and freedom, and Fitzgerald s novel The
Great Gatsby (1924), written in the aftermath of world war one; both explore similarities about the
behaviour towards the individual s desire to be loved, experiencing physical and spiritual
fulfillment; and the idea of mortality and disillusionment. Although The Great Gatsbyreinforce these
ideas in a pessimistic and cynical viewpoint regarding the nature of human aspirations; Elizabeth
Browning s Sonnets expose a more idealistic and optimistic side of aspirations where it is
something that people can approach with sincerity and courage.
In the Sonnets from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is conveyed through EBB s subversion of the Petrarchan sonnets; traditionally a male form of
writing during the conservative Victorian era. The spiritual connection between EBB and Robert
Browning is reinforced in sonnet XXII Our two souls stand up erect and strong. The use of first
person plural, signifies the appreciation of authentic love, and displays the two individuals to be
one unit, creating a sense of connectedness. This challenges the traditional innocence
encompassed by women at the time by displaying her passion in a sexualised manner. Ironically,
a sense of physical intimacy is also evident from the sexual connotation of stand up erect and
strong , suggesting the physical desire and emphasises on the value of sexual union. The
mythical allusion of a phoenix, until their lengthening wings break into fire , symbolises the
rejuvenation of love and reflects the concept of spiritual love and fulfillment that were revisited
in the Victorian period. Additionally, in Sonnet XXI, the poet continues to declare aspects of
spiritual desire where she assert that affection should not be expressed in words but rather, it
should be felt and experienced spiritually. This is manifested through the personification of
spring, in all her green complete! alluding to the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love born
from the green sea, implying that EBB s desire to be loved is served as not only earthly but also
divine. This is reinforced by love me also in silence, with thy soul, emphasising the transcendence
of love the persona wishes to achieve; a metaphoric sense of constancy and a love that is felt
silently which suggests the desire to be loved both physically and

The American Blackface Minstrelsy Is An American Form Of...
Art is the expression or application of human creative skill and imagination, typically in a visual
form such as painting or sculpture, producing works to be appreciated primarily for their beauty or
emotional power (Dictionary.com). During the 1830 s a form of art mimicking and degrading
African American began to arise, this art form is what we know of as the American blackface
minstrelsy. During this time period African Americans are viewed as inferior to the white man.
They were viewed as uneducated, barbaric, lackadaisical, and had additional negative stigmas
surrounding them. This impacted them in a negative way and resulted in it being challenging for
African Americans to flourish. With African Americans having these negative stigmas surrounding
them on the way they spoke, their punctuality, their demeanor, i.e., this lead to the creation on the

Supervisor Skills Essays

Supervisors are an important part of any organization. They are charged with ensuring the will of
management is carried out by the workers. A supervisor must communicate with that team. He or
she must orient and train the employees. Their employees must be made to work as a well
functioning, productive team. Employees must have the performance evaluated. Any conflicts that
arise must be resolves and the working relationship must always be improved.
Communication
Well performing teams can not be built without good communication. A good supervisor must

This is done by restating the key points of the speaker. Restating will show the speaker that he or
she is being listened to which will improve the rapport and further enhance communication. The
speaker will also have the opportunity to clear up any misunderstood points. Paraphrasing will also
aid in remembering the conversation for later.
Determining Effective Orientation and Training Methods
The first day of work can be intimidating for anyone; even for those who have been in the
workforce for many years. Nervousness, while not unusual, can be detrimental to the goals of a
company. Taking the time to ensure all new employees are acquainted with their coworkers and
surrounding can reduce insecurity and boost moral. A thorough training program will also help
to eliminate mistakes, ensure procedures are followed and increase employee confidence.
Orientation should be held on the first day. Employees should be given an opportunity to
introduce themselves and learn about the others that are being going to be in orientation with
them. This will help them relax and feel more comfortable asking questions. This is a good time
to take care of paper work. Payroll and tax forms should be filled completed as well as any other
necessary documents. This is also a good time to discuss the company and its plans. The employee
should also be introduced to the hierarchy of the company. This will allow them to see where

Junior Paper
From the 1970s through the 1990s, for the first time in America, a significant generational gap,
followed closely by a second. As each generation sought to further its own interests, rifts developed
between the old and the new as their goals diverged. As a result, there would be significant
opposition between the generations to an extent not seen before. The first of these struggles would
occur between those of the Greatest Generation, also known as the G.I. Generation, commonly
classified as those born prior to World War I, and the Baby Boomers, who were born after World
War II. This would not be the last of its kind, though. Afterward the Boomers again came into
conflict, this time with their successors, Generation X, also known as Thirteeners, the thirteenth
generation of Americans to be born since the nation s founding. David Guterson s novel The Other

Old Spice, Become a Man
Most of us have probably seen the Old Spice commercials with the confident and fast talking
Isaiah Mustafa, AKA The Old Spice Man. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have
since become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet.
But what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will
focus on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad
does surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult
to notice of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the
same time helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding
itself into our popular culture.
Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward.
Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything
is possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the
bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. The commercial ends with
Mustafa delivering the non sequitur punchline, I m on a horse, and the camera zooms out to show
the audience that Mustafa is in fact riding a horse. Also, Mustafa completes all this

Furthermore, there are more to the issues with batteries; most batteries are relatively expansive.
According to cleantechnica.com the prices vary from 2,000 US Dollars to 3,000; thus,
customers have to keep in mind that they might need to replace their batteries once or twice, so
it requires at least 5,000 dollars of investment. In addition, most batteries are very large and
heavy which is a disadvantage for the aggressiveness of the car since it slows it down. This
might not be a big issue for some people; however, there are performance enthusiasts who seek
pace in their vehicles; perhaps all electric vehicles aren t the best option for them. As a
conclusion, all electric vehicles are designed perfectly to give at least damage as possible to nature
unless the electricity required to run the vehicles is produced by non eco friendly power plants, but
there are plent of power plants that use sun, wind, water and nuclear energy in order to get
electricity, and their numbers are constantly rising throughout the world. The only downside of all
electric vehicles is certainly the battery; whereas, most people are optimistic about this issue as

Comparing Korsakoff s Syndrome And Sterograde Amnesia
Amnesia can occur in many different forms depending on the damage caused to specific areas of
the brain. Korsakoff s syndrome is a memory disorder that is caused by a thiamine deficiency and
id usually seen by people with heavy alcohol consumption (Breedlove, Watson Rosenzweig, 2013).
Medial temporal lobectomy is the cutting of areas of the anterior temporal lobe such as the

One difference is that a person with Korsakoff s syndrome may also have retrograde amnesia. In
addition to being unable to retrieve new information, the individual may also have problems
retrieving information obtained prior to the disorder (Kril Harper, 2012). A person with this
syndrome is more likely to confabulate, whether spontaneously or by provocation. Spontaneous
confabulation may be due to a deficiency in remembering the source of a memory or a deficiency
in cognitive functioning whereas provoked confabulation may be related to errors in memory

Progressive Independent Party Analysis
With Hillary Clinton s recent self proclamation of securing the Democratic nomination, along with
the heated 2016 presidential election, has come an Independent, Progressive political movement,
with citizens calling for action against a system widely believed to have failed them.
It s time to finally have a vibrant, exciting, VIABLE third party in this country, a place where many
of us who feel disenfranchised; Progressives, Greens, Democratic Socialists, Independents, and
frustrated Democrats and Republicans alike, can feel empowered in the promise of democracy in
our country, says Araquel Bloss, founder of the Progressive IndependentParty.
The Party began simply as an online petition written by Ms. Bloss, which quickly went viral
after co founder Steve Poikonen wrote an article and published it on The Morning Nightcap. Mr.
Poikonen states, Her vision was simple, eloquent, and absolutely right the hell on time: Let s
build a coalition of Democrats and Progressives who feel their party has left them in the
wilderness. Let s bring in the Green Party folks who have worked so hard for so long only to find
themselves locked out of the national conversation. Let s bring in Independents who ... Show more

Bernie Sanders said our struggle continues, and it indeed does. We must continue to stand strong
in our convictions, help our friends and neighbors stay strong, because the quickest way for this
battle to be lost is if we believe it when they tell us it s over. It s not over, continues Ms. Bloss.
We will continue to ask Progressives of all parties and left leaning Independents to unite with the
Progressive Independent Party to build the largest Progressive voting bloc in history. Not only is
this not over, the political revolution started by Bernie Sanders is only just begun. Join

Syntax And Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke
The controversial poem, My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic
debate from professors, scholars, and students alike; the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem
clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reminisce on a
bittersweet memory with his father. His unclear commemoration has sparked a divide on what the
true purpose of the poem is. Some may argue the poem s purpose is to shine light on the subject of
abuse, whereas others believe the father and son were sharing a moment while roughly playing.
However, the more one examines this piece of literature, it becomes undeniable that the poem
portrays a scene of a toxic father son relationship. Although there are a... Show more content on

The main form of syntax that Roethke uses is rhyme scheme. My Papa s Waltz contains a simple
ABAB rhyme scheme, in which many slant rhymes are used; further, this makes the poem
sound similar to the way a song would. Notably, waltzes are guided dances... just as the father in
My Papa s Waltz, guided his son through life. Yet, it is also important to note that waltzes are
meant to be simple, swift, and loving. Although waltzes are described as these things, Roethke s
childhood is described as a waltz gone wrong. He makes it obvious he faces abuse and the
effects of alcoholism in his early life. As stated, the rhyme scheme used by Roethke helps
develop the true main idea of this poem by shaping it as it were a song, more specifically a
waltz. If the poem, My Papa s Waltz, was a song, it would be a pessimistic and depressing one.
Clearly, Roethke s unfortunate experiences portrayed by using syntax make us one step closer to
discovery the real purpose of the poem. In short, the syntax of this story shapes its meaning through
rhyme scheme. Diction is arguably the most important literary device carried throughout the
duration of this poem. Many readers were disoriented by the use of Roethke s word choice, yet it is
arguably the most indisputable piece of evidence used to portray the background of abuse in the
author s poem. Roethke uses words that carry negative connotations such as: beat, battered, death,
and more.

Drake And Josh Analysis
Analytical Essay: Drake and Josh Pip pip da doodley doo (Drake Parker). In Nickelodeon s
Drake and Josh, two teenagers with opposite personalities must learn to live under the same roof.
Drake is a cool, good looking, slightly daft, guitar playing, ladies man who plays by his own
rules while Josh is the dorky, clumsy, responsible one. The two must learn how to get along when
Drake s mom falls in love with and marries Josh s dad in the first episode. The rest of the series

Drake makes a mistake and in attempting to atone for it only ends up making the situation worse,
which then leaves Josh to pick up the pieces and everything occurs in a comical way. Overall
themes in the show include roommate drama, kids hijinks, tween sensation, Sitcoms, and
surviving high school (TV.Com). The theme of Josh Runs Into Oprah mainly focuses on
roommate drama in that it focuses on the relationship between the two brothers. The comedic
style of Drake and Josh mainly takes form in tropes. If there s a sitcom trope, Drake and Josh have
probably covered it (TV Tropes). This appeals to teens because the metaphors often relate to other

Capability And Capacity Essay
Management of Workforce Capability and Capacity Managing the capability and capacity of the
workforce at Mountain View Middle School (MVMS) has several unique challenges. MVMS is in
a rural, agricultural setting and enrollment can fluctuate as the migrant laborers move in and out of
the area. Also, there is a well established charter junior high charter school and a newer community
charter school which provide direct competition to MVMS for student enrollment. Due to these key
factors, managing capability and capacity of the staff and building can be challenging for
administrators. According to the principal of MVMS, Wes Jensen, the middle school is fortunate to

the best possible management of workforce capacity and capability, MVMS and Blackfoot School
District #55 (BSD#55) strive to identify potential issues or concerns for each coming school year

recognizing that many of these students are choosing to return to the district at the middle school
level to have an opportunity to participate in a greater number of athletic and co curricular

Reflection Of A Good Wife
In 1955, the article entitled, The Good Wife s Guide, detailing all the ways that a wife should act

believe that being a good wife runs so much deeper than making dinner, washing undies, and doing
the dishes. It s about prioritizing your familyand loving them with all of your heart. As the years
pass on, the society became more open minded about the tradition stereotype genderrole. The
changes also included both wifeand husband were expected to help each other and the house
chores was divided. The wife is not only the main charged of doing all the house works and
prepare food for the family. Men were also expected to make some contribution to take part in the
household works. Whomever the person went home first whether the husband or the wife, the
person is expected to clean up the house if it s needed, prepare dinner for the family and expected
to take care the children. Back in 1995, the wife encourages to wash the children s face, comb their
hair and change their clothes. Importantly, she had to reduce all the noise of washer or vacuum and
encourage the children to be quiet at the time when the husband came home because the husband
had spent long enough hours at his work. When he got home, it s his time to relax and enjoy his
time freely without interfering his moment. But in the 2010 guideline, the expectation for the wife

Symbolism In The Film Witness
Throughout the film many references to symbolism are depicted in the film Witness, which
provides intricacy and emphasis to the film. Many aspects of symbolism are present throughout the
film, predominately through the use of certain filmic techniques. Several scenes of Buckley s text
were illustrated through the use of silhouettes. A silhouette is a significantly engaging filmic
technique, as it is primarily relies on interpretation dictated by the individual viewer s mindset.
Through the utilisation of a silhouette the details of certain scenes are minimal and provides

Queer History In America Chapter 1 Summary
America has a long and complicated history, some of which has been forgotten or almost hidden
away until recently, specifically LGBT history. The history of LGBTQIA+ people as a whole is
something that has only been written about since the 1970s. Considering the fact that queer people
have been around for much longer than that, their history is still not as developed as it should be.
Michael Bronski, a cultural critic, independent scholar, progressive activist, and college professor,
has been writing extensively on LGBTissues for four decades and has accumulated his knowledge

She wrote Out in the Union: A Labor History of Queer America in order to expose the
LGBTQIA+ issues in the labor union. It provides insight on the struggles that Americans had to
face with a different kind of hiring discrimination. Using stories of those who faced their own
battles in the labor union, Frank tries to fill a large gap in history. Starting around the 1970s, she
first discusses those who are coming out in unionized workplaces and follows both queer and
straight advocates for gay rights in their fight against harassment in the workplaces and union
halls. Many LGBTQIA+ people have come out in the union to make their place in labor s
campaign for economic justice. They made a part of their identity public in order to fight for the
equal rights they deserve. The battle for equal rights of transgender workers is also mentioned,
their first affirmation in labor agreements being in the 1980s. Miriam moves on to sharing what
she found out about the alliances that were formed between organizers in queer communities and
labor activists to prioritize gay labor issues. Gay labor campaigns began popping up everywhere,
and Miriam wraps up her review of history with the mention of the passage of the Marriage
Equality Act in the State of New York in June

Mini Essay on Family Relations
Mini Essay on Family Relations
A family is a connection between people either by adoption, blood or marriage. In the three stories
read in class many of the family members are emotionally detached from each other. Emotional
detachment is when a person avoids making connections with those in his/her personal and social
round. The members in Louisa, Walter and Paul s families show emotional detachmenttowards
Louisa, Walter and Paul because their family members do not understand them nor do they wantto.
Louisa s mother, from Shirley Jackson s short story, Louisa Please Come Home, is emotionally
detached from Louisa because she does not share a mother daughter connection with her. Louisa
s mother continuously buys clothes for her even though she does not like them. Her mother
picked [the coat] which she wants Louisa to wear (49). Admittedly, Louisa s mother shows
emotional detachment towards Louisa because she does not ask her daughter what she would
like to wear. Moreover, Louisa s mother should already know Louisa s fashion sense. Most
mothers know their children s likes and dislikes because they love their children and do not
want to upset them. Since Louisa s family does not pay attention towards Louisa s needs, she
feels neglected. This pushes her to run away, which shows that Louisa s family is not close
enough to begin with. In fact, Louisa s mother does not care for Louisa s opinion and does not
give her freedom of choice. Her mother s behaviour leads Louisa to be

Computer Vs. Personal Computers
Smart phones and computer have been around for quite a while, but the only difference is that
the personal computers have been around way longer than smart phones. Before computers
were a big deal, but now it s all about smart phones and new ones that are launching soon. People
may not think so much about personal computers because today s generation is all about smart
phones now. I understand that people can have their own personal opinion and may disagree
with what I m saying, but my opinion is that personal computers are better. Personal computers
is a better, electronic than smart phones because personal computers are not a distraction, and
are a lot more helpful. First, personal computers are less distracting. Computer actually need
access to Wi Fi in order to do anything. I believe computer are better because if you have no Wi
Fi then you can t access your social media and wouldn t be distracted. You also won t be
distracting while driving because you won t have Wi Fi and it is actually safer because you can
pay more attention to driving than being on social media. Computers also don t receive text
messages nor phone calls, which is a good thing. This electronic is also good for when doing
homework because you can listen to music, type better, and faster on the keyboard. In contrary,
smartphones are very distracting. Smartphones can be helpful when you can t access Wi Fi for
google maps or just looking up a store for hours, email and other notifications. Smart phones

Themes Of Violence In Dante In Love, Dante Alighieri
Introduction
According to English writer, A. N. Wilson, in Dante in Love , Dante Alighieri,
A.N. Wilson s perspective of Dante Alighieri as a poet, as well as a madman
According to (Wilson 2011), Dante Alighieri, author of the Divine Comedy, is a man whom
resembled both a poet and a madman. Wilson briefly emphasises in, Dante in Love , the two
contrasting depictions from Leonardo Bruni and Giovanni Boccaccio, of whom Dante was with
regards to the role that he played within the Florentine society and how it influenced him as a poet
in his work. (Sayers 1949), asserts that the Divine Comedy is an allegorical poem, influenced by,
Dante s theological, political and personal background .

The circle is broken up further into three separate sections of whom these acts of violence can be
imposed on. These sins of violence is taken on three different forms being: performing harm on
other people, harm on oneself or harm on God, as explain by Vigil in the eleventh canto of the
Divine Comedy (Sayers, Dante The Divine Comedy 1: Hell 1949).
The relationship between violence and Dante as a poet
The violence portrayed in the poem
The relationship between violence and madness
In accordance with the scenes of violence found in Dante s Inferno, a link can be found in Wilson s
argument that violent scenes within the poem can justify the possibility of Dante being both a
poet, as well as a madman. Dante s Inferno, as emphasised by A. N. Wilson, is a popular and
exciting read not only from the unpredictability of order of events (Dante wrote Inferno without
have a clear vision of how the poem will end), but for the poem s, sheer brilliance and beauty of
its words, its music , as well as for its, unforgettable characterization (Wilson 2011).

Cirque du Soleil hasn t received any grants from the public or private sectors since 1992.
Is there a space for IT in artistic organization such as Cirque du Soleil?
At Cirque du Soleil, a touring show is a very complex matter. A tour can be treated as a little
village of about 150 people, and it needs the best technology to meet their needs which can range
from basic bandwidth requirements to ticket sales, payroll and phone systems. And as this is a
village that moves every six or seven weeks, which means that it has to be constantly torn down and
set up again.
Everything has to be precise and methodical. For every tour, they have to tear down a big top
that seats 2,500 and 55 trailer loads of equipment have to be hauled rom place to place. And
everything has to be in working order within 30 hours. At Cirque du Soleil, casting is a key
process. Castings talent scouts are always on the move, travelling to the ends of the earth. The
casting director maintains a pool of artists for the eight shows and recruit artists for new shows.
Once a performer is hired, he or she has to go through a series of steps before actually
participating in a show. One of those steps is the make up lessons that ensure that performers can
apply their own make up for the various roles they play in a given show. Initially, make up for
each part of every show was documented with 35 mm photos and forms listing the products used
and the procedure to follow, which was stored in big binders

Cell membranes are basically the barrier of a cell between its interior and its exterior
environment. It protects the cell as well as governs what can and cannot pass through and enter

Active transport on the other hand is the movement from low to high concentration. This kind of
transportation requires energy. An example of this would be moving those sodium chloride
molecules from the diluted left side to the concentrated right side. Now looking at osmosis, this is
a process that takes place after reaching equilibrium. The sodium chloride is still moving between
both sides, but instead of the right side moving more quickly to the left side (in diffusion) both
sides are moving between the membrane at the same rate.
3.Use crenation, red blood cell shrinking, plasmolysis, and turgid plant cells to differentiate
between hypertonic, hypotonic, and isotonic. (2 3 paragraphs)
Starting with hypertonic, it s a term used to describe when the exterior environment of a cell is
more highly concentrated than its interior environment. Say you placed an animal cell, such as a
red blood cell, in a solution high in sodium chloride. The water inside the red blood cell would
rush out, causing the cell to shrivel up. This is called crenetion. It s a result of osmosis where red
blood cells undergo shrinkage. Something similar happens in plant cells, however, with plant cells
the membrane gets teared off the cell wall. This is called plasmolysis. This happens because the
cytoplasm is mostly made up of water, so as that shrinks from all the

(McCormick 72). School counselors have the opportunity to promote change (Jackson 27).
Unfortunately, some counselors are unaware of how to approach some students going through
transitional stages. Some even battle with their own beliefs and biases. After a poll was taken
about how students feel speaking to schools counselors, almost all expressed a lack of trust and had
no experiences of relating emotional/social issues to them. (Jackson 23). When counselors take the
step in helping out the students who are battling issues within themselves the outcome can be
beautiful. In one school, a student came to a counselor depressed and alone. Also being gay, he was
shy to open up. When he told the counselor this she explained to him that , It was her job to listen
and offer a helping hand to students who need support. And, being gay is something to celebrate,
being different and unique is a gift not something to be afraid of. After a year of guidance with his
counselor he was able to join with the SGA group to come before the student body and open up
about his truth. Training and resources being provided to students and counselors has improved the

Tyranny In America

  • 2. Ben and Jerry s Case Study Q.1: Action recommendations: What should Yola Carlough do regarding political voice, employee morale, and product development? Yola Carlough was the head of Social Mission in Ben and Jerry s, and she had to face many issues concerning the mission statement of the company, such as political voice, employee morale and product development. It was hard for her to integrate the social beliefs of Ben and Jerry s into the code of conduct of Unilever. Employee Morale: Prior to the acquisition, employees of Ben and Jerry s saw the company as a network of family and friends in which they were all fully involved and integrated. Ben and Jerry s had a policy in which no one was fired. They developed a 2 year grace period with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It would not have made more sense to forge an alliance with Ben and Jerry s because both benefited more from the acquisition than they would have from an alliance. Firstly, Ben and Jerry s was developing and becoming more and more popular every day, and they were unable to satisfy demand due to restricted production facilities. They needed larger facilities and more labor in order to increase production. Unilever were able to support Ben and Jerry s distribution network, and to give them the ability to enter new markets. Ben and Jerry s had reached their highest point, and so were unable to do this alone. An alliance would have been possible, but had an alliance been forged, it would not have been profitable enough for Unilever, because it would not have made sense for Unilever to forge an alliance with a company who had already reached their highest point. Therefore, in order to help Ben and Jerry s meet the demands of the market, and to restructure the manufacturing process, it made more sense for Unilever to acquire Ben and Jerry s than to form an alliance with them. Considering the sizes of the two companies, it would have been naГЇve and ignorant to forge an alliance. When forming alliances, it is important that the two companies be similar in some ways, and size is an extremely important factor to consider. Unilever was a large ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Capital Punishment and Tradition Form National 5 Writing Folio Discursive essay Should the death penalty be brought back in the United Kingdom? The topic I have chosen to argue about is whether the death penalty id a good thing or bad thing to bring back to Britain, Throughout the Assessment I will be mostly focusing on the question on whether the death penalty should be brought back. To start off the essay will on the history of Capital Punishment and why the death penalty was stopped in the first place, after it will show the wrongly convicted people of having the death penalty punishment and how it can effect on society. After that I will be describing the advantages and disadvantages of having the death penalty back and to conclude I will give you my opinion on my ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... There was a movie made about the case and event called let him Ave it, Chris . Many people who were religious say Capital punishment was a sign of evil, cruelty and no one deserves to be put to death. When something changes in our life time it does make a difference in our lives, the death penalty will change our way of living; criminals will need to be smart and think twice. I personally think that if someone should be convicted for any crime to be put to death, the crime should for murders, abuse and for any rapes to harm another person for life. I believe that the death penalty should be back but not used a lot or limited so Britain can lower any wrongly convicted and get the proper punishment for murderers who have killed. The death penalty is a cruel ting I agree with that but not for murders they deserve it no questions needed even though the victim of any murder could of had an even horrible death than the murderer who could be convicted of murder. This will act as a major deterrent, it will stop criminals killing to get a better life in jail than their ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Era Of The Late Nineteenth Century Reformers In the late nineteenth century reformers efforts to save the Indians failed due to them taking away their way of life having the conform to the ideas of the white Americans. Reformers attempt to help the Native Americans was definitely unhelpful. The reformers main goal was to make them conform to the way of life as white Americans. Reformers took them of their land, took away their culture, and there was of life with new laws and reform that was supposed to help the Indians but instead it hurt them and their culture. Also the younger generations were forced to study in schools the white American way of life. They were taught the American history according to the white Americans, their language was forbidden in the schools and they... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ella C. Deloria, A Yankton Soiux said It wasn t easy to make a spiritual and social adjustment. The people were too used to living in large family groups, cooperatively and happily. Now, here they were in little father mother child units often miles from their other relatives, trying to farm an arid land. The Dawes Act was the answer to the White Reformer to please the American settlers that were trying to take the land the Indians lived on and help stop the fighting that was going on because of this land. The Dawes Act gave Native Americans a piece of their own land that allow them to own it, which they did not hold the deed to. The Federal Government held the land in trust for twenty five years awaiting the Indians becoming United States citizens. Despite the alleged safeguards, tribal lands were often lost by fraud or coercion, so that, by 1934, white Americans owned two thirds of lands originally reserved for Indians.(Schultz,327) The land given to the Indians was undesirable to most because the land was barren and infertile making it hard for the Indians to grow crops and survive of the land. Also with these reservations came schooling for the children of the Indians. Reformers believed that teaching the Indians would help them understand the laws and history of the United States and help with the literacy problem and preparing them for American Citizenship. • 5. The Decay of Compact Discs The decay of compact discs 1. Introduction Throughout the past recent years, the technologic community has advanced at rapid rates, generating changes in all domains of life. As technology brought more innovation in the lives of the Americans, it often forced out outdated products and replaced them with newer and higher quality items. One product which seems to be headed down this path is represented by the once very popular compact disc. The current project sets out to assess its position within the modern day society and to see whether it could have a more successful future in a different global region. 2. The product and its target market The CD was first created by James Russell in 1965, but it did not attract major interest until Phillips came to manufacture it in the 1980s decade. The compact disc as such gradually transformed into the most popular means of storing computer data, such as music, pictures or other types of files (Bellis). Today nevertheless, its position within the market is becoming weaker as its popularity among the US consumers decreases. In 1997, there were a total of 62,236 stores in the associated industry category (451 Sporting goods, hobby, book and music stores, NAICS code), a number which had decreased to 62,236 by 2002; by the latest census of 2007, the number of establishments in the industry had decreased to 57,415. • 7. Japanese Influence On America Essay Japan was a loser of Second World War and the closest friend of America in Asia. The consequence of the war and the rise of Japan as economic super power of the world had much meaning to America policy in Asia. Japan s connection with the west can be traced back to the sixteenth century when it began trading with Western countries, but was disrupted and the trading was banned due to the connections with Christianity, but the relationship remained with East Asian dominated by Chinese empire. And when the imperialism and colonization was the main stream, Asiabecame more and more attractive to western main powers, many countries were colonized. Japan s success in driving out the Europeans sparked the Asian nationalism and revolution against colonialism, but japan had learned the lessons from the west that it would need a strong army for decisive use until later turned itself into an even more brutal colonial power in Asia and ignited the war with America in the Second World War. The dropping of the atomic bombs by the American forced japan to surrender, transforming Japan from a center of power into a power vacuum, but lesson learned from the unhappy occupation of Europe, America immediately occupied Japan alone, denying an alliance s demand for ... • 8. The Canadian Medical Association Defines Physician... The Canadian Medical Association defines physician assisted death (PAD) as [when] a physician knowingly and intentionally provides a person with the knowledge and/or means required to end their own lives... . (A, p29) In Canada, suicide has been legal for years, but euthanasia and physician assisted death have only recently been decriminalized in a court of law. However, until 2016, PAD can still be charged as culpable homicide under section 222 and 229 of the Criminal Code of Canada. (B,K) The specifics of the debate on physician assisted death in Canada has, over the decades, not significantly changed, but instead Canadians opinions have been shifted since information from Belgium, Columbia, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Switzerland,... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (B, K) However, it is first important to understand exactly what is being challenged and what PAD really means. PAD is not to be confused with withdrawal of treatment, since patients have the right to refuse life sustaining means, such as ventilator assistance or nourishment. (A, I) On the other hand, PAD has been, up until recently, illegal, even though suicide without assistance is not. (B) Critics of PAD have expressed concern about abuse and error in assisted death, but less so about the same margins when it comes to the withdrawal of life sustaining treatment. They say that there is a clear difference between the act of ending one s life and simply withdrawal of treatment. (K) However, it is also important to note that this does not mean that those against PAD are for preserving life at all costs, as witnessed by withdrawing care that does no more than prolong suffering. (F) Proponents argue that the act of withdrawing life sustaining treatment is just as likely to lead to death as a physician giving a lethal dose of a substance, so why are physicians legally required to respect one choice, but not the other? (K) The end result of PAD is comparable to actions that are legally performed by physicians, such as aggressive palliative care, and withdrawal of life sustaining treatment. (K) Court Cases For many years, Canada s stance on the ethical issues regarding PAD has been static, and the 1993 case of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Materials Engineering Of Photovoltaic Cells Materials Engineering in Photovoltaic cells In today s world when we think about energy sources, there are 2 classifications they can be split into: renewable and non renewable sources of energy. Fossil fuels are the backbone for most of the energy we use today. We need this fuel for almost all of our daily routine, from lighting a fire to running heavy machinery, but with increase in population there has been an increasing demand of such energy. Fuels like these tend to give massive amount of energy but also affect the environment by producing harmful gases and residue. With the depletion of the fossil fuels such as coal and petroleum we needed to switch to alternate form of energy which and there has been an ever greater need for a cleaner and renewable form of energy. Humans have tried to find many alternative (and renewable) forms of energy such as wind and water but not at a very large scale. With an abundance of solar energy available to harvest, it is one of the most widely cultivated renewable forms of energy. Solar cells or photovoltaic are the primary devices that are able to harvest the sun s energy in a form that can be used every day. Semiconductors are one of the more widely used materials in the solar cells industry; however other materials such as organic photovoltaic, solution processed solar cells and dye sensitized solar cells are also used in the market. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In more simple terms, sexism is the false idea that one sex is superior or inferior to the other. In sociology, sociologists focus on the differences that are determined by society, culture, and gender. It is believed by social scientists that gender differences are not caused by biological differences. Although humans are born male or female, individuals must learn and understand masculine or feminine behaviors. Therefore, gender differences are a result of socialization, discrimination, prejudice, and other forms of social control. For example, in the United States, a strong patriarchal system is enforced among Mormon Fundamentalists. From a conflict and feministic perspective, gender inequality or sexism exists because it benefits a group in the position of power and with power to shape society. This power group is men. The theorists within these two perspectives argue that as long as men maintain their social, economic, and cultural advantage within society that women will remain in their subordinate position. This subordinate position women have within society is linked to their relationship to the means of production (Leon Guerrero, 2014). Statistically speaking, women who work 41 to 44 hours per week earn 84.6% of what men make working similar hours. However, women who work more than 60 hours per week only earn about 78.3% of what men do. In addition, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In No Name Womanthe narrator describes her aunt who is severely punished by her village for being impregnated by a mysterious man. He is also taking away her freedom to decide who she is because he is forcing her to only be a housewife when she really wants to be a writer. The narrator expresses, I did write for a while in spite of them; but it does exhaust me a good deal having to be so sly about it, or else meet with heavy opposition (2). Basically, it s not the act of writing that is tiring, it is hiding from her husband that exhausts her. This shows that she would be much happier if her husband would cease his controlling behavior. The narrator states, I lie down ever so much now...Indeed he started the habit by making me lie down for an hour after each meal (10). The ability to communicate anonymously is viewed as part of our basic right to free speech . With the advent of computers and ease of access to the internet, becoming anonymous as never been easier, and is far more reaching than the colonial newspapers of 1787. For some this ease at which we can communicate anonymous is cause for concern. Although we are no longer hiding our identities to promote the ratification of the Constitution, being anonymous still plays a large role in our society. Online anonymity grants anyone with an internet connection an unbiased voice, regardless of gender, race, or wealth. Without this freedom to online anonymity many people would not feel free to express themselves or release sensitive information about themselves or about corruption, in the case of whistleblowing. Off balance sheet financing, for instance, operating and synthetic leases, not only overstates corporate earnings and perjures their financial positions, it also allows them to preserve the ratios needed to assure debt contracts. This decreases the authority of such contracts, because the companies are not in reality keeping their debt ratios low; they re lying about the amount of debt they actually have (Edman, 2011). Ethical professionals, who willfully present transparent financial statements, are the only true way to prevent misconstrued financial statements. FASB will never rid the world of every accounting inconsistency (Edman, 2011). Synthetic leases can serve two important purposes: First, for financial accounting purposes, they enable lessees/sponsors to treat leases as operating leases, whereby payments are recorded as rent expense and the underlying assets and the associated liabilities are kept off the lessee s balance sheet. This treatment of the lease enables the company to show a stronger balance sheet than if the lease was treated as a capital lease (Soroosh and Ciesielski, 2009). Every year over US $2.2 trillion is spent worldwide in repairing, and protecting components and structures from corrosion. • 29. The Relevance Of Justice In Plato s Republic In Plato s Republic, Socrates engages in a dialogue to defend justice as a worthy virtue. His conversation partners challenge him to legitimize a concept that is seemingly burdensome on those who abide by it and is, at best, an inconsistent attempt at fairness for those it is meant to serve. In Book I, Cephalus, Polemarchus, and Thrasymachus put forth flawed definitions of justicethat range from limited to cynical and self serving. Socrates is able to refute their ill conceived perceptions of righteousness and, in doing so, present a doctrine that leads to the benefit of those who adhere to it and society at large. The central aim of said doctrine, education for the sake of knowing goodness, is neglected by Socrates companions, yet is vital for ensuring a justice that is desirable for both its consequences and its very essence. Cephalus, the first to offer a definition, posits that justice is giving what is owed and conducting oneself with honesty. This appears to be a commonplace yet strong image of justice, ingratiated within man s consciousness as the ancient system of reward and retribution. Socrates, however, is quick in finding its limitations. He puts forth the scenario of one who is in possession of a crazed man s weapon. Giving the man his property would be a just action according to this definition; however, he may go on to harm others with it (331c). Justice, they agree, could not result in this outcome. The only situation in which this definition would be viable is one where every person has both full knowledge of the good and is aware of all consequences that could arise from any action; circumstances such as these are clearly impossible given human limitations. A parallel can be drawn between Socrates refutation and elements of modern societies: for example, those who are deemed a threat to themselves or others due to their mental state can be involuntarily committed to a controlled environment for a set amount of time. This lends credence to Socrates idea of justice in that his words, recorded over two thousand years ago, bear great relevance in societies far larger and more complex than his own. Cephalus, seeing that his definition is lacking, excuses himself from the dialogue. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Lets go back to when men valued thought, for they valued its effect on the world, lets go back and take a look at the father of Christian Existentialism, SГёren Kierkegaard. SГёren Kierkegaard was born to a father who inflicted strict and rigorous religious teaching upon his children. His father felt this was necessary because of his sinful habit that resulted in an affair with his 1st wife s maid. Kierkegaard, after a broken engagement with his love, was handed over to a life of severe melancholy. His answer was summarized in three words, Fear and Trembling. This is something that he spent an immense amount of time answering, and his answers can be condensed into the example that he gave from the Old Testament in the Bible. He gives Christians an example in which to follow, in the patriarch Abraham. The example that Abraham gives, and we are to follow, is found in how Abraham responds to the command to kill his son. For man, especially a father, this command is unfathomable, yet because God wanted to test Abraham (give better reasoning), he told him to sacrifice his son. Kierkegaard looks at Genesis 22:2, it says, He said, Take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love, and go to the land of Moriah, and offer him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains of which I shall tell you. He notes the unbearable precision in the command, when God says take your son, your only son Isaac, whom you love (emphasis added) Kierkegaard also takes a close look at the beginning of the next verse, it says, So Abraham rose early in the morning. He notes that some men take this excerpt to men that Abraham was rising early to faithfully carry out his duty. And while that has some truth to it, it is not complete, Kierkegaard emphasizes the fact that he rose early, not because he got a great night of sleep, rather that he wrestled with this command in ... The spiritual connection between EBB and Robert Browning is reinforced in sonnet XXII Our two souls stand up erect and strong. The use of first person plural, signifies the appreciation of authentic love, and displays the two individuals to be one unit, creating a sense of connectedness. This challenges the traditional innocence encompassed by women at the time by displaying her passion in a sexualised manner. Ironically, a sense of physical intimacy is also evident from the sexual connotation of stand up erect and strong , suggesting the physical desire and emphasises on the value of sexual union. The mythical allusion of a phoenix, until their lengthening wings break into fire , symbolises the rejuvenation of love and reflects the concept of spiritual love and fulfillment that were revisited in the Victorian period. Additionally, in Sonnet XXI, the poet continues to declare aspects of spiritual desire where she assert that affection should not be expressed in words but rather, it should be felt and experienced spiritually. This is manifested through the personification of spring, in all her green complete! alluding to the birth of Aphrodite, the goddess of love born from the green sea, implying that EBB s desire to be loved is served as not only earthly but also divine. This is reinforced by love me also in silence, with thy soul, emphasising the transcendence of love the persona wishes to achieve; a metaphoric sense of constancy and a love that is felt silently which suggests the desire to be loved both physically and ... As each generation sought to further its own interests, rifts developed between the old and the new as their goals diverged. These commercials first began in early 2010 and have since become a whole series of some of the most popular commercials on television and the internet. But what is it about these ads that make them so appealing? To answer this question, this paper will focus on the commercial that started it all: The Man Your Man Could Smell Like. Although this ad does surprisingly little to realistically describe the product it is advertising, its clever and difficult to notice of all three first parts of appeal convinced many people to switch to Old Spice, and, at the same time helped Old Spice reach a close connection with its target audience, this way embedding itself into our popular culture. Before getting into any analysis, I would like to give brief summary of how the ad goes forward. Mustafa, in a bathroom wearing nothing but a towel, starts a speech which describes how anything is possible when a man uses Old Spice body wash. In one continuous take, Mustafa moves from the bathroom to a sailboat, to a sandy beach, and lastly, to horseback riding. The commercial ends with Mustafa delivering the non sequitur punchline, I m on a horse, and the camera zooms out to show the audience that Mustafa is in fact riding a horse. Syntax And Diction In My Papa s Waltz By Theodore Roethke The controversial poem, My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike; the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz to reminisce on a bittersweet memory with his father. His unclear commemoration has sparked a divide on what the true purpose of the poem is. Some may argue the poem s purpose is to shine light on the subject of abuse, whereas others believe the father and son were sharing a moment while roughly playing. However, the more one examines this piece of literature, it becomes undeniable that the poem portrays a scene of a toxic father son relationship. Although there are a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The main form of syntax that Roethke uses is rhyme scheme. My Papa s Waltz contains a simple ABAB rhyme scheme, in which many slant rhymes are used; further, this makes the poem sound similar to the way a song would. Notably, waltzes are guided dances... just as the father in My Papa s Waltz, guided his son through life. Yet, it is also important to note that waltzes are meant to be simple, swift, and loving. Although waltzes are described as these things, Roethke s childhood is described as a waltz gone wrong. He makes it obvious he faces abuse and the effects of alcoholism in his early life. As stated, the rhyme scheme used by Roethke helps develop the true main idea of this poem by shaping it as it were a song, more specifically a waltz. If the poem, My Papa s Waltz, was a song, it would be a pessimistic and depressing one. Clearly, Roethke s unfortunate experiences portrayed by using syntax make us one step closer to discovery the real purpose of the poem. In short, the syntax of this story shapes its meaning through rhyme scheme. Diction is arguably the most important literary device carried throughout the duration of this poem. Many readers were disoriented by the use of Roethke s word choice, yet it is arguably the most indisputable piece of evidence used to portray the background of abuse in the author s poem.
