Adam and Eve in Paradise lost Essay
Milton was looked on by many feminists, of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women,

The West African Regional War Essay
The West Africa Regional War
For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union
(MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this optimism
might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an important
development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in the year.
While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU is a much
welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies, the tenuous
nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of renewed warfare
in the region. A brief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The end of the 1990s housed over 500,000 refugees housed in hundreds of camps and settlements in
Guinea, one of the largest refugee populations in the world (U.S. Commission for Refugees, Guinea:
Country Report 1999, www.refugees.org/world/countryrpt/africa/1999/guinea.htm). While the
destabilizing effects on Guinean society of large numbers of Liberian and Sierra Leonean refugees
was profound throughout the 1990s, sustained cross border conflict did not break out between Guinea
and her neighbors until 2000. Cross border attacks into Guinea by Sierra Leone s Revolutionary
United Front (RUF) and various Liberian based rebel groups precipitated a harsh military response
from the Guinean military, which led to thousands of militia and civilian casualties.
Of course, fighting in West Africa during the 1990s was not confined to the MRU states. Serious
bloodshed occurred in Guinea Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance region of Senegal (ongoing),
and Nigeria (ongoing) and conflict threatens to engulf c?te d Ivoire. Sometimes referred to as the arc
of conflict in West Africa, these wars escape simple classification. While the war that started in 1989
in Liberia has become regionalized in the rest of the MRU, the other areas of instability in West Africa
are based on intra state phenomena. Nevertheless, the broader and deeper that instability grows in
West Africa, the greater the risk that conflicts will merge and spread, further

How Does Elie Wiesel Change In Night
Elie Wiesel s Night is an eye opening memoir of his experiences being in concentration camps during
the Holocaust. Wiesel went from a man who loved his family and had great faith to a man who lost all
hope in everything. His memoir sheds light on what it was like to be a teenage boy during this time.
Throughout his memoir readers get to see his transition as well as the circumstances he was
undergoing. Elie Wiesel named his protagonist Eliezer, who is the only boy out of 4 children. Eliezer s
nightmare first began when he and his family were sent to ghettos before being sent to the
concentration camps. Overtime, Eliezer became less caring of his father and more caring of himself.

It became clear Eliezer mentally and emotionally lost all faith in God. Everything that he had
witnessed made him second guess if there really even was a God. Eliezer questions God when he is
forced to watch an innocent young boy be hanged in front of the entire concentration camp. He
mentioned that he had seen hangings before, but this one remained in his memory forever. Eliezer
questioned God when he began to think about all of the horrible things he had seen. Blessed be God s
name? Why, but why would I bless Him? Every fiber in me rebelled. Because He caused thousands of
children to burn in His mass graves? (Page 85, Wiesel). Eliezer questioned why God should be praised
when He allowed children to be killed in such a horrible way and how He created the same place

Similarities Between Martin Luther King Jr And Malala Youfzai
Your Intro:
According to Martin Luther King Jr, Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable... Every step
toward the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggles (brainyquote.com). This is a very
powerful quote because if you do not struggle or sacrifice in life, when come to a point where you
have to make decisions or take action, you re not going to be able to decide what to do or think. This
is how we progress and go forward, because we make mistakes and learn from them to make things
better in the world around us. In fact, Dr. King s quote suggests that struggle often motivates change.
For example, Many activists have been motivated by their personal struggles. These are people who
can truly speak for their cause, because they lived it,and really understand what they say and do.
Activists who were motivated by their personal struggles are people like Harriet Tubman, Martin
Luther King Jr. and Malala Yousafzai. Even though they all struggled with different things at different
times, their struggles motivated them to speak out for their cause and change the world.

Alabama Civil War
Journal Article Review #1 McCollum, C.
THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during
and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war.
During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama,
by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and
in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to
use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in
1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as
well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied
their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the
confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863,
the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but
they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. From January to October 1864, James T. Ayres a
freeman from Illinois served as the recruiter in north Alabama. While here Ayres learned just how

Critique Of St. Anselm s Ontological Argument
St. Anselm begins his argument by saying that God is the one that grant the ability of understanding to
faith, in which an understanding insofar that has been very beneficial to him. He added that an
understanding which he believes God is in fact what he believes to be. Thus, with that understanding
leads to the rationale of the notion of something greater to be thought exist is an unconscionable.
Anselm s argument stresses the perspectives which to purport by presenting to those who deny the
existence of God as the greatest being is self contradictory. Therefore, the point of his argument, it is
essentially crucial to realized that such a being exist. The ontological argument by St. Anselm is the
most compelling and fascinating argument ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Besides, it does not necessarily exist, but merely just something one can think of, then if that was the
case, isn t it likely to be something still greater than that a thing which would be just like it? In
addition, in this particular instance, would it not be conceivable to be something one able to see or
exist in real life which contradicted the initial assumption. we are supposed to think of something that
was at the limit of greatness, which nothing greater can be conceived, but then we thought something
still greater than some of the thing that actually existed. In my view, one must reject the assumption of
the thing which nothing greater can be conceived which also necessarily exists, not just something in
the mind, but also exist in reality. That s pretty much the entire argument he was trying to make.
While I agree with Anselm s position regarding the validity of a supreme being as God; however, I can
t stop pondering that maybe our expectation in understanding the existence of God is probably
something far from our ability to understand. Is it just possible that God is something some has the
ability to feel his presence but not necessarily can be

My Favorite Archaeological Site In Japan
Japan is a country well known for the preservation of cultural places. In such a small country, there are
many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve.
While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese
culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever
get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the
Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the
main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters
wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took
about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world,
the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt.
Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no
guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most
powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the
tomb was built for him. His actual burial site has not been confirmed, as is the norm for tombs in
Japan, as they are protected by the government from looters and foreign

The Importance Of Stereotypes In Society
Barbara Kruger, an American conceptual artist, once said All violence is the illustration of a pathetic
stereotype (All). Stereotypes are at the basis of every dispute, argument, or violence we as people are
quick to judge other people even if we have never got to know the person we re criticizing. If
stereotypes continue we will become a world with separated groups of people that are at war with each
other. Stereotypes can be defined as image or label that can be held on a group of people based on
their appearances, and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For example, in an
interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that That was scarring. I felt like after a
while, as I grew older and my consciousness evolved, I chose to not perm my hair anymore (Staff).
This evidence supports the idea that we may change our appearances like Jamila Lyiscott, for people
judge us based on things like our hair. Jamila Lyiscott felt like she was placed in a certain group based
on her appearance and this is what stereotypes are. Clearly, stereotypes affect our world greatly just
like it affected Jamila Lyiscott and how she presented herself to society. The topic of stereotypes is
also explored through literature. For example, in the poem, Labels, this poem is saying that we don t
need to judge if we have never met the person we are labeling. Labels is really talking about how
stereotypes aren t right. The poet writes that You can t know me by just a look,

Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley Essay
Romance in Frankenstein by Mary Shelley The Romantic Movement in England, and subsequently in
America, occurred in the late 18th to the early 19th centuries. In her novel Frankenstein, Mary Shelley
conforms to many literary trends that were used by the romantics. One literary trend of the romantic
era is for the story to be set in a very remote or foreign place. Possibly, the purpose of having a story
set in a foreign place was to create a realm that is entirely different from the known world of the
reader. After all, for a monster in an apartment in the middle of London would hardly have been
believable. Above all, the Romantic writer s objective was to create new and/or different worlds so

cleanly integrated traditionally animated characters. Part fairytale, part daydream, and all magic, the

The lighting in Mary Poppins is a three point sequence of lighting making the film bright and colorful,
making the story feel more lifelike. For example, the mise en scene in Mary Poppins the scenery, like
at the park, and photography is very cartoon like. The movie is basically played off the imagination of
the two child characters in the movie. The lighting technique contributed to the film as a whole, by
allowing it to be colorful and full of imagination just the way the writer wanted the film to become on
the screen. A favorite scene, towards the end of the movie, of mine is when the Banks family goes to
the park to fly their kite as a family. As the director shows a shot of the entire family, the Banks family

director wanted to evoke from the audience. Another example, that goes in the Mise en Scene of Mary

dancing, within the chalk painting, they are within the proxemic pattern of an intimate spacing. The

The racialization of Latinos dates back to the 1800 s where the term greaser first came to be used
against those of Mexican appearance (Bender, 2003). The slur derived from longstanding conceptions
of Mexicans as unkempt and unclean, with unwashed, greasy black hair and it also referred Mexican
males as sexually threatening... to white women (Bender, 2003). Discrimination or racial profiling was
incredibly active that in 1855, the Vagrancy Act, known as the Greaser Act, was adopted by the

The Importance Of Teamwork And Its Advantages Essay
SECTION 1
Definition of teamwork and its advantages and disadvantages
Teamwork consists of a group of people coming together to form a team, to work together to achieve
the goals that have been set out. In order for a team to reach their objectives and be successful as a
team they must find out what each team members role is in the team. They must set up team rules on
how they will work together, how they will distribute information and how they will resolve any team
conflict if any arises. Team members should not discuss personal interests as it is irrelevant to the
contributions of team goals. Each member should respect each other.
Advantages;
Each member of the team can learn something from each other.
The sharing of information and the communication in the team can improve
Team members who are willing to share their ideas make it a better experience for the team and it also
makes it a lot easier for the shyer ones in the group to contribute
The team environment can turn into a supportive one
Every team member has a different style and this can lead to finding new approaches to tasks

Measure Success In Relation To An American Society
How do we measure success in relation to an American society? , The answer isn t really definitive. I
would say that the meaning of success varies depending on who you ask. To some, success can simply
mean, being the best at something. To others, success is measured on some sort of accomplishment
(for example: getting honours in school or receiving a promotion). Everyday, we search through the
web and news stations, looking to see who made it and set our goals to either meet or go farther than
them. We praise those who are successful and usually disregard those who aren t. Our parents always
want the best for us; they want us to one day be on covers of magazines and news articles to show
others how great their children are. Some parents

Star Wars was a momentous movie for the time, thanks to the technology, just like Avatar, Star Wars
film makers used green or blue screens, instead of using mirrors to project models and sets into live
action, as previously done to. Both movies used special effects, but particularly in Star Wars this
proved a benefit for the film. The special effect techniques advanced enough and look real enough for
the time, for example the use of holographs for communication. Star Wars set the standard that it was
beneficial to invest heavily in special effects to make the movie stand out, profitable, and have staying
power. Another reason why Star Wars was thought to be ahead of the time was from having surround
sound, making it more popular. With most science fiction films, they didn t have humanistic creatures,
more of the little green men we thought of, but Star Wars and Avatar are different, both have
humanistic characters and showed what life on different planets could look like. It s not obvious when
you first see Avatar that it is similar to Star Wars, but once you look a little closer, you see the

Viking Raiders Essay
Beginning in about A.D. 800, many Scandinavians sailed south from their homelands to seek their
fortunes. These seafaring warriors began by raiding coastal sites of the British Isles but soon grew
more ambitious. During the next three centuries, they left their mark as traders, pirates and settlers on
much of Britain and the European continent. These raiders became known collectively as Norsemen,
or Northmen, though they are better remembered by another name: Vikings.
Most Vikings came from the regions of Scandinavia now known as Denmark, Norway and Sweden.
However, they were not united by race or nationality. To the people they raided, the Vikings shared

desperate for protection.
By the mid 800s, the lands of Ireland, Scotland and England were attracting Viking settlers as well as

The Severity Of Skin Cancer
Skin cancer is the only form of cancer that is rapidly increasing each year in the United States,
supported by the fact that every 20 seconds someone is diagnosed with skin cancer, and one person
dies nearly every hour (Siegel, Victoria, P 117.) Skin cancer is growing and a multitude of people are
constantly being diagnosed. It is the nurses responsibility to inform their patients about skin cancer
while they are in for a check up. Nurses spend more time with their patients than doctors do, therefore
they could educate them and look for possible skin lesions. In order to understand the severity of skin
cancer, professors must educate nursing students on the causes, treatments and ways to detect and

The Impact Of Globalization And The Involvement Of...
Introduction
The Sukuma people of northwestern Tanzania, resting on the southern shore of Lake Victoria, have
been greatly impacted by the increasing global markets in the region. While the Sukuma are dispersed
across Tanzania, those that live near Lake Victoria have greatly changed their ways of living because
of the impacts of globalization and the involvement of European countries with fisheries along the
Lake. Many of the Sukuma people work for the fisheries that export extremely high quantities of fish
to other countries, and yet they are barely able to provide for themselves and their families. The city of
Mwanza is made up of predominantly Sukuma people, and their culture here has greatly adapted due
to changes in their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This global involvement has created a hostile environment from a beautiful and balanced culture, and
their lack of respect removes their right to have control over the region.
Background and Overview
First, according to Jenkins (1996) culture profile of the Sukuma people, the group has lived in their
current area of Tanzania since 1300 CE. During the first millennium, there were vast migrations of
early Bantu speaking people, and this is likely where the Sukuma culture is rooted from. As of 2005, it
is estimated that there are around 5.5 million Sukuma people, and they are thought to account for up to
90% of the population in the city of Mwanza (Jenkins 1996), which has a population of around 2.8
million. In addition to being the most prominent group of Mwanza, they are also the largest ethnic
group in Tanzania. Some Sukuma live in the infamous Serengeti Plain, and in Shinyanga, and some
have migrated further south into various other areas. The Sukuma speak a Bantu language that is
similar to the national language of Tanzania; Swahili, although it is tonal making it differ from Swahili
(Jenkins 1996). The Sukuma have historically relied on agriculture, and the women do the majority of
the work for the family. Sukuma farmers grow crops such as cotton, cassava, rice, and peanuts
(Jenkins 1996). Certain subgroups rely more heavily on herding cattle, as well. While most Sukuma

Themes Of The Play Two Trains Running
The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to the
black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of Pittsburgh.
The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the black
community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters experience. The community
surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which has been
precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement. However, the
legal rights and privileges that the African American community won during the 1950s and 1960s do
not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city dwellers. An underlying sense of tragedy and
hopelessness pervades even short term victories such as the city awarding Memphis thirty five
thousand dollars, since Memphis remains estranged from his wife and has the foreboding..

Critical Book Report When I first heard about the assignment I thought to myself, I need to get
something to read that I know a little about so I could have a sense of what was going to happen. As
soon as I saw JFK my brain just went, ding, winner winner. I had always been fascinated in how it

they were just conspiracies. It in was Dallas, the shot was from behind, and he had a communist

learning more facts on what led up to Oswald pulling the trigger. The assassination was never really

Similarities Between Roman Catholicism And Eastern Orthodoxy
Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy The Eastern Orthodoxy and Roman Catholicism are
organized using a hierarchical system. Much like the ancient times in which these religions were
established, they govern from the top down with bishops or leaders having ultimate authority and then
several classifications that extend down to priest. They feel their top leaders stand in for Christ. For
Eastern Othodoxy the leader is Eccumencial Patriarch and for the Roman Catholics it is the Pope.
(VB: Polity in Catholicism and Orthodoxy) The formal principles for these two religions are the Bible
plus tradition and decress. However, Eastern Orthodoxy uses the 66 books of the Canon and
Apocrypha and the Roman Catholicism use the 66 books of the Cannon and Canonical. To them the
Bible and the tradition of worship are equally important. The material principles for these religions are
that they are saved by faith with works infused grace through the priests on the via to earn God s
glory. (The Christian Church on Earth) The worship of the Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodoxy
are both highly liturgical and ornate with icons. They have a low use of preaching in their worship
services. The teachings for these two religions include infant baptism for the remission of original sin
and the gift of faith. The Roman Catholics teach the Lord s Supper is the sacrament through
Transubstantiation but they view the Lord s Supper as unbloody sacrifice through Transubstantiation.

Multicultural Essay
Multicultural
I must admit that before I began taking this class I took for granted how much racism still exists in this
country. I have started to put more thought in to the way the world really is, the topics discussed in
class have started to catch my interest. When I first started reading the Tatum book I was mad when I
read her version of the word racism . I thought to my self I personally have never held down the black
race, what does she mean? As I progressed in the book I was starting to understand what she meant
about the system of advantages that white people are given. I also understood this better when I read

This is another reason why it is hard for me to discuss race openly. Then of course there is influence
by our peers that can help or hurt our beliefs.
As far as the scientific work on race is concerned I believe that the majority of the scientists had
strong racist opinions and feelings before they even started thier research. All of the scientists who
wrote the articles in reprint #1 appear to be white and have benefited from the racist society to get into
their position in the first place, so why would it be logical for them to publish anything good about
minorities that would affairs when people like this who have the power to teach use their power to
spread a threaten this system of advantages that they have thrived on. These are the reasons why I
think these people could try and pass this stuff of as scientific research. It is a sad state of racist
message. These scientists were respected and I m sure their word was taken literally by the general
public. These men used their positions to spread their racist views in my opinion.
The main points that I have learned from my readings is that the society we live in today is not what it
is cracked up to be. Minorities are constantly being taken advantage of and discriminated against.
Until this system is changed or at least acknowledged by the majority of people living here these
problems will remain.
From what I have read and seen in my life the relations between whites and minority groups has

The Found Boat Summary
From the time we were young we had friends. Making friendship was always an instinctive concept
but we never knew where it would lead .In Alice Munro s story The Found boat , Eva, Carol, Frank,
Bud and Clayton are a group of children that live in a small town and goes to the same school. In this
story, the boat initiates a new stage in the relationships between the boys and the girls and how does
the boat have an influence on their sexual awareness.
Firstly , the boat has an important influence in this story because it takes the kids on some sort of
adventure and change there relationship . For example, at the beginning of the story they largely
remain separated from on another and they only converse with one another occasionally, and that
communication usually takes the form of hurling insults at one another. Look at the fat assed ducks in
wading , and Fat assed fucks (Munro 366). This stage of their relationship begins to change after the
girls find the boat and share that finding with the boys. We can observe that the characters are very
childish at the beginning of the story and that sooner or later their growth was about to begin.
Therefore it is at this moment that we can come to conclusion that the boat , which is the main symbol
of this story , is about to begin.
Secondly, working on the boat allows them to explore new roles and aspects of their identity. They all
had a different task to do; like that the boat would be ready to go on some unknown

Lion King and Hamlet
Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet
As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off of
the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each, but
when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated
surface of The Lion King.
One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and Hamlet
are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet, a man, and Simba, a lion cub, are in the same situation
which is coping with and avenging their fathers deaths. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a whole plan of
revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature.
The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only were
the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like animals
territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues with a line
from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big balls of burning
gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s conscience, calls Simba a
baboon because he won t go back to his pride.
Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it serves as
his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is his cue to
avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and it is also used
in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost.
The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies go,
there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different position. At
the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. The only survivor is Marcellus, the extremely faithful and
supportive best friend of Hamlet through the entire play. However, at the end of The Lion King, Zazu
who was held captive by Scar and the hyenas is set free. Scar is the only one

The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles
A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into the
political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the monarch.
Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign of Louis XIV that
the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle Versailles is known for today.
Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s grand Vaux le Vicomte which was
suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in 1661 Louis XIV began his epic project
of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of his absolute power. Andres Le Nôtre,
Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic conception that landscape should be more
impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of
Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced perspective, Le Nôtre, further extended the site in the
mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the
gardens were filled with awe, perhaps even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment,
housing France s aristocracy. Though the nobility was relatively pampered, there was no question that
the king was in charge. Elaborate terracing, for example, gave the gardens hierarchical structure
symbolizing feudal society, purposefully reinforcing the nobility s servility by literally

Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it s risky for an inexperienced trader to

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly

Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up to
$100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he would

lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for real.
Unrealistic expectations Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary options

Adam and Eve in Paradise lost Essay Milton was looked on by many feminists, of or relating to or advocating equal rights for women, (comma before quotation mark)[1] as rather chauvinistic in the way he portrayed Eve. • 3. The West African Regional War Essay The West Africa Regional War For observers of the West Africa regional war, the recent calm in the war torn Mano River Union (MRU) states Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea has given rise to optimism. Guarded, as this optimism might be, the decrease in violence in West Africa during the second half of 2001 is an important development given the scope and intensity of fighting that gripped these states earlier in the year. While observers agree that the current absence of widespread violent conflict in the MRU is a much welcomed development, it must not mask the profound cleavages within these societies, the tenuous nature of the UN imposed peace in Sierra Leone, and the continued serious threat of renewed warfare in the region. A brief ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While the destabilizing effects on Guinean society of large numbers of Liberian and Sierra Leonean refugees was profound throughout the 1990s, sustained cross border conflict did not break out between Guinea and her neighbors until 2000. Cross border attacks into Guinea by Sierra Leone s Revolutionary United Front (RUF) and various Liberian based rebel groups precipitated a harsh military response from the Guinean military, which led to thousands of militia and civilian casualties. Of course, fighting in West Africa during the 1990s was not confined to the MRU states. Serious bloodshed occurred in Guinea Bissau (1999), the southern Casamance region of Senegal (ongoing), and Nigeria (ongoing) and conflict threatens to engulf c?te d Ivoire. Sometimes referred to as the arc of conflict in West Africa, these wars escape simple classification. While the war that started in 1989 in Liberia has become regionalized in the rest of the MRU, the other areas of instability in West Africa are based on intra state phenomena. Nevertheless, the broader and deeper that instability grows in West Africa, the greater the risk that conflicts will merge and spread, further ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

THE NEGRO IN ALABAMA DURING THE CIVIL WAR The hardships faced by the slaves during and immediately following the Civil War were relatively the same as they had been prior to the war. During the war, the only thing that changed for some was their Masters . The Governor of Alabama, by an act of 1861, was authorized to accept the services of slaves offered by certain slaveholders and in October the following year he was empowered to impress slaves between the ages of 18 and 45 to use as laborers, essentially making the state their masters. Amendments to the afore mentioned act in 1864 enabled the sheriff to enforce this act. The slaves were used for building defenses in the state as well as to take the place of whites who were enlisted and fighting the war. Some slaves accompanied their owners into battle and a few free blacks served as substitutes for whites. By 1865, the confederacy had decided to enlist slaves but the war ended before this plan could carried out. In 1863, the Union Army in Alabama, employed the first Negro troops to be used mainly for fatigue duty but they were used as line soldiers in a few minor battles. In such a small country, there are many historical sites open for visitation, and museums built for history that they could not conserve. While there are many attractions in Japan for tourists, the most popular are sites with a lot of Japanese culture. As an aspiring archaeologist, I would absolutely spend most my time in Japan, should I ever get to go, touring the most popular historical locations. My favorite archaeological site in Japan is the Tomb of Emperor Nintoku. There are many reasons why I felt this site was the most intriguing, but the main reason was the extraordinary size of the tomb. It is about 486 meters long, about 307 meters wide, and 35.8 meters high. Supposing 2,000 people worked on it every day, it is estimated that it took about 16 years to build. The Tomb of Emperor Nintoku is one of the three largest tombs in the world, the other two being the Tomb of Qin Shi Huang in China and the pyramid of King Khufu in Egypt. Emperor Nintoku s tomb is also fascinating because the inside has not been excavated, so there is no guarantee that this tomb is in fact where Emperor Nintoku was buried. Emperor Nintoku was the most powerful person in Japan at the time that the tomb was being built, so it is a safe assumption that the tomb was built for him. • 11. The Importance Of Stereotypes In Society Barbara Kruger, an American conceptual artist, once said All violence is the illustration of a pathetic stereotype (All). Stereotypes are at the basis of every dispute, argument, or violence we as people are quick to judge other people even if we have never got to know the person we re criticizing. If stereotypes continue we will become a world with separated groups of people that are at war with each other. Stereotypes can be defined as image or label that can be held on a group of people based on their appearances, and they impact our society in many ways (Stereotype). For example, in an interview with Guy Raz from NPR, Jamila Lyiscott says that That was scarring. I felt like after a while, as I grew older and my consciousness evolved, I chose to not perm my hair anymore (Staff). This evidence supports the idea that we may change our appearances like Jamila Lyiscott, for people judge us based on things like our hair. Jamila Lyiscott felt like she was placed in a certain group based on her appearance and this is what stereotypes are. Clearly, stereotypes affect our world greatly just like it affected Jamila Lyiscott and how she presented herself to society. The topic of stereotypes is also explored through literature. For example, in the poem, Labels, this poem is saying that we don t need to judge if we have never met the person we are labeling. Labels is really talking about how stereotypes aren t right. Many of the Sukuma people work for the fisheries that export extremely high quantities of fish to other countries, and yet they are barely able to provide for themselves and their families. Background and Overview First, according to Jenkins (1996) culture profile of the Sukuma people, the group has lived in their current area of Tanzania since 1300 CE. During the first millennium, there were vast migrations of early Bantu speaking people, and this is likely where the Sukuma culture is rooted from. As of 2005, it is estimated that there are around 5.5 million Sukuma people, and they are thought to account for up to 90% of the population in the city of Mwanza (Jenkins 1996), which has a population of around 2.8 million. In addition to being the most prominent group of Mwanza, they are also the largest ethnic group in Tanzania. Some Sukuma live in the infamous Serengeti Plain, and in Shinyanga, and some have migrated further south into various other areas. The Sukuma speak a Bantu language that is similar to the national language of Tanzania; Swahili, although it is tonal making it differ from Swahili (Jenkins 1996). The Sukuma have historically relied on agriculture, and the women do the majority of the work for the family. Sukuma farmers grow crops such as cotton, cassava, rice, and peanuts (Jenkins 1996). • 26. Themes Of The Play Two Trains Running The themes of the play are Two Trains Running is a political play that makes extended reference to the black power movement and its impact on poor urban communities like the Hill District of Pittsburgh. The issue of continued white oppression of African Americans and the response of the black community during the 1960s is at the foreground of the characters experience. The community surrounding the restaurant is undergoing a major redevelopment, probably one which has been precipitated by the social initiatives that came in the wake of the civil rights movement. However, the legal rights and privileges that the African American community won during the 1950s and 1960s do not seem necessarily to extend to impoverished city dwellers. An underlying sense of tragedy and hopelessness pervades even short term victories such as the city awarding Memphis thirty five thousand dollars, since Memphis remains estranged from his wife and has the foreboding.. All of the scientists who wrote the articles in reprint #1 appear to be white and have benefited from the racist society to get into their position in the first place, so why would it be logical for them to publish anything good about minorities that would affairs when people like this who have the power to teach use their power to spread a threaten this system of advantages that they have thrived on. Making friendship was always an instinctive concept but we never knew where it would lead .In Alice Munro s story The Found boat , Eva, Carol, Frank, Bud and Clayton are a group of children that live in a small town and goes to the same school. In this story, the boat initiates a new stage in the relationships between the boys and the girls and how does the boat have an influence on their sexual awareness. Firstly , the boat has an important influence in this story because it takes the kids on some sort of adventure and change there relationship . For example, at the beginning of the story they largely remain separated from on another and they only converse with one another occasionally, and that communication usually takes the form of hurling insults at one another. Look at the fat assed ducks in wading , and Fat assed fucks (Munro 366). This stage of their relationship begins to change after the girls find the boat and share that finding with the boys. We can observe that the characters are very childish at the beginning of the story and that sooner or later their growth was about to begin. Therefore it is at this moment that we can come to conclusion that the boat , which is the main symbol of this story , is about to begin. Secondly, working on the boat allows them to explore new roles and aspects of their identity. They all had a different task to do; like that the boat would be ready to go on some unknown ... Lion King and Hamlet Similarities and Differences Between The Lion King and Hamlet As innocent and young the Disney movie The Lion King may seem, it is, indeed, loosely based off of the renowned Shakespeare play Hamlet . It would seem strange to the typical audiences of each, but when looked at closer, it is seen that they are actually related underneath the youthful, animated surface of The Lion King. One of the main aspects that connects The Lion King and Hamlet is the characters. Simba and Hamlet are both princes of their kingdoms. Hamlet, a man, and Simba, a lion cub, are in the same situation which is coping with and avenging their fathers deaths. Hamlet goes crazy and creates a whole plan of revenge but Simba simply runs from the problem altogether ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An enormous range of people was reached between these two works of literature. The fact that animals were used in The Lion King is almost ironic. This is true because not only were the characters in The Lion King more civil, but the people in Hamlet acted more like animals territorial, aggressive, immature, and thoughtless. The irony in The Lion King continues with a line from Pumbaa, All this time I thought that all of the sparkly dots in the sky were big balls of burning gas billions of miles away. Rafiki, the baboon that acts almost as Simba s conscience, calls Simba a baboon because he won t go back to his pride. Another similarity between the two is the sighting of the father s ghost. Simba sees it and it serves as his revelation moment before he returns to his pride. For Hamlet, his father s ghost is his cue to avenge Hamlet Sr. s death. The word wind is used several times throughout Hamlet and it is also used in one of Simba s lines before he sees Mufassa s ghost. The end of Hamlet is completely different from that of The Lion King. As most Disney movies go, there is a happy ending and all is well after justice is served. Shakespeare takes a different position. At the end of Hamlet, almost everyone dies. The Built Environment At The Gardens Of Versailles A review of the built environment at the Gardens of Versailles provides a rich perspective into the political culture during the Age of Enlightenment as one defined by the absolute rule of the monarch. Gardens at Versailles were first built by Louis XIII; however, it was during the reign of Louis XIV that the gardens were extensively expanded and adorned into the spectacle Versailles is known for today. Perhaps catalyzed by a hurt ego after the construction of Fouquet s grand Vaux le Vicomte which was suspected to have been built using embezzled crown funds1, in 1661 Louis XIV began his epic project of the gardens designed almost entirely as an expression of his absolute power. Andres Le Nôtre, Versailles leading landscape architect, believed in the basic conception that landscape should be more impressive than the buildings it comprehends2. With over 800 hectares of gardens, the size of Versailles alone is quite daunting. Using forced perspective, Le Nôtre, further extended the site in the mind s eye creating a scale incomparable to the surrounding villages3. No doubt those who visited the gardens were filled with awe, perhaps even fear. Versailles provided an almost urban environment, housing France s aristocracy. Though the nobility was relatively pampered, there was no question that the king was in charge. Elaborate terracing, for example, gave the gardens hierarchical structure symbolizing feudal society, purposefully reinforcing the nobility s servility by literally ...
