What Does Anthropology Mean To Me
Anthropology and what it means was very interesting to me but the thing that spoke out to me is
holistic perspective. This is a fundamental principle of anthropology, that the various parts of our
human culture and biology must be viewed in the broadest possible context in order to understand
their interconnections and interdependence . This means we must have an open mind when
studying anthropologyand see the world with a new pair of eyes; not those, which only know our
own culture. In a way anthropologist are scientists performing experiments and have no personal say
in what is the correct outcome of that experiment. Therefore anthropologist are seeking to
understand how humans interact and their belief system; as opposed to trying to

Woodstock 1969 Case Study
As the intended event planner for Woodstock 2010, it is my responsibility to examine previous
Woodstock events (1969, 1994, and 1999) to assist in my preparation for this event. Furthermore, by
studying the past triumphs and failures, I can recreate the elements that worked and improve upon
the elements that were failures. Indeed, close attention will be paid to identifying the most critical
areas of concern, identifying three additional areas needing attention, and determining the previous
event s goals and objectives.
In my opinion, the most critical area of concern would be the damage to the Woodstock brand,
since poor management has led to violence and exploitation of festivalgoers, hosting communities,
and sponsors (Crowd Management Strategies, 2015). Another major area of concern is the
location that in 1999 was on Griffiss Air Force Base s concrete and tarmac surfaces versus 1969s
dairy farm location, which led the 1999 crowd to experience widespread heat exhaustion issues (19

First, crowd security was a serious issue at all the Woodstock events, with crowd surfing causing
a multitudes of serious injuries and festival crashers causing significant overcrowding of the
location (19 Worst Things..., 2014). Second, the band line up at Woodstock 69 was a cohesive
group of artists that attracted a specific type of crowd, however, in 1994 and especially 1999 the
groups scheduled to perform were from completely different styles of music, which led to nu metal
bands following a rap performer (19 Worst Things..., 2014). Third, the refreshments were also a
serious problem at Woodstock 99 where they offered bottled water and food at extremely inflated
prices, which led along with the high temperatures, it is speculated, to the vandalism of vendor
booths on the final day of the festival (19 Worst Things...,

The Impact Of Military Engagements On The Peace, Economy...
The purpose of this paper is to persuade and demonstrate that ongoing Military engagements are
direct contributors to the peace, economy and political stability throughout Southeast Asia.
The History and Economic Relationships After the Spanish American war a series of opportunities
brought a lot of regional players and foreign powers to the Philippines, the United States took the
position that Spain once had. The Unites States saw the Philippines islands as a strategic place that
would open commerce and trade to the far east Asia from the beginning and their stance did not
change after their surrender. After World War II (WWII) most countries in Southeast Asiabecame
independent. Most countries in the region share a business and trade relationship which is in favor
of their individual and collective growth, while some others share problems with migration, limited
resources and political vitality. For some time, the United States have been a key influencer of
stability providing military presence and advising countries throughout southeast Asia to maintain
territorial and economic integrity. After the independence of a few countries in Indochina, countries
with India and China influences located in the same continental area, the Vietnam War began with
the communist North Vietnam attempt to conquer the south. By the end of the war in 1975
neighbor countries of Laos and Cambodia were also governed by communists. During this era the
Southeast was struggling for trade

Banquo Alternate Ending
Veronica walked into the kitchen, fresh, clean, and free from the dream of earlier. She wore
only a casual outfit of jeans and camisole top. No need to dress up if she had the evening off. She
brewed a pot of extremely strong coffee and ate a slice of dry toast as she waited. She never was
a huge breakfast eater. She saw an open box of cereal with loose cereal pieces on the counter.
She rolled her eyes as she cleaned up the mess and put the box away. The open box was one of
her biggest pet peeves. Looks like Brayden had breakfast, she thought. He was a good kid, but
messy. She supposed most kids were. She d have to have a talk with him about it. Her cat, a black

Business And Strategic Analysis Of Industry Wide Factors
Business and Strategic Analysis Industry wide factors Kathmandu (KMD) main operation is in
Australia and New Zealand, and they have recently established their operation in the UK market.
Industry wide, sport equipment generally seasonal, in Billabong, their sale would be higher in
summer, while for KMD, the sale results for the whole financial year is directly dependent on
sale in Winter and Easter. (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2015) The seasonal nature of the
industry also means that a larger portion of sales and net profit should be from the second interim,
along with higher level of borrowing that KMD used to purchase inventory. (Kathmandu Holdings
Limited, 2015) There seems to be a general shift in customer interest toward more fashionable and
sustainable clothing, the change which KMD responses by modifying their design. (Cauchi,
2014) and (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2014) While this is a reasonable response, this also
means that they will now face competitions from new competitors such as Target, or Big W.
(Cauchi, 2014) Furthermore, customers can relish the joy of shopping at home with the rise of
internet, mobile phones and personal computers, which create online competitions. KMD has
quickly responded to this by opening its online market trading place such as eBay in Australia and
Trade Me in New Zealand. (Kathmandu Holdings Limited, 2015) This has been proven a
successful move as growth is 33% and only sale is now 5.8% of total revenue. (Kathmandu

Book of Sand
1.The book had affected the narrator to a great extent. At first he did not care for the book, until
the stranger selling Bibles said the number of pages in this book is literally infinite. No page is
the first page; no page is the last . This intrigued the narrator s mind. After he had bought the
book, he began investigating. He noted down things in the book. He began losing sleep from the
investigation and when he actually got sleep, his dreams were about the book. As it states in the
short story, At night, during the rare intervals spared me by insomnia, I dreamed of the book . He
had grown an obsession with the book, which altered his lifestyle and forced him to hide the book
in the library. 2.The literary device that the author... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However at this point he had already lost his friends and the things he valued. The book had
taken up a great extent of his time that could not be taken back, because unlike The Book of
Sand, his life was not infinite. 6.The literary device used is a metaphor. I think this because
when the narrator says the best place to hide a leaf is in the forest , he is referring to a way to
hide The Book of Sand. At first he considered destroying the evil thing. Although he thought that
the burning of an infinite book might be similarly infinite, and suffocate the planet in smoke .
Therefore he thought to hide the book in plain sight. Hiding a leaf in the forest is like hiding a
book in a library. He hid the book on one of the library s damp shelves in the basement and tried
not to notice where exactly he put it. He did this so he and anyone else wouldn t be able to find
the monstrous book. He didn t want to be a prisoner of the book anymore. The book had ruined
his life and took away time, the most precious thing we have in life. He didn t want to be trapped
by the isolation of the book and so he hid it where it could never be

Scared Straight Essay
Beginning in the late 1970 s Scared Straight style programs have been a popular method of
rehabilitation for juvenile delinquents. The programs typically include a jail tour and presentations
from inmates with the intention of frightening participants into turning their life around. The
original pilot program was featured in a 1978 documentary entitled Scared Straight, which was
directed by Arnold Shapiro and narrated by Peter Falk. The documentary followed 19 juvenile
delinquents as they participated in the program. Today, the A E series Beyond Scared Straight
follows participants through these programs all over the United States. Scared Straight programs

Michael Royster, professor of Criminology at Prairie View A M University, would agree. In
analyzing the results of the original Scared Straight pilot program in 1978, Royster notices a
large discrepancy in the rates of recidivism of the pilot program compared to modern day Scared
Straight style programs. The rates of recidivism among participants in the pilot program are
significantly lower than those who participate today. In Petrosino s research, he found that 41% of
children who participated in a Scared Straight style program in New Jersey committed a new crime
after the program, while a control group, who came from the same background, but did not go
through the program, showed only 11% recidivism. In contrast, the results of the pilot program
showed only 6% of the participants returned to crime (Petrosino). Royster offers several
explanations for this gap in rates of recidivism, one being the Hawthorne Effect. The Hawthorne
Effect describes the phenomenon in which one s reaction is modified due to their awareness of
being observed. The pilot program was televised, therefore, Royster claims, the original participants
felt significant pressure to not return to a

International Financial Institutions
The world economy is becoming more global in regards to its underlying operations each
successive year. International trade has had a profound impact on global wealth while also
increasing the quality of life for societies around the world. Banking, and in particular, international
banking facilities the exchange of capital to areas of the world that need it. These inflows of capital
help to foster ingenuity, creativity, and innovation to help spur international growth. As such, each
year, globalizationplays a more profound role in regards to the national economies of the world.
Globalization has allowed for the expansion of corporate operations beyond their natural domestic
boundaries. As such it has contributed to an increased standard of living for those who embrace its
presence and are therefore willing to take risks (Stiglitz, 2007).
Free trade therefore, is a welcomed addition within the overarching trend of globalization.
International financial institutions, both directly and indirectly facilitate free trade among
international countries. Free trade allows for the transfer of goods and services when demanded
by specific economies. This is much like the exchange of capital needed to help individual
companies to grow. It also allows the countries best suited for such activities to flourish. For
example, China is proficient in manufacturing which allows the country to export far more goods
than it imports. This is partly due to free trade and international

During 2003 and 2004, Hallstead resided in their previous location which held 10,230 square feet.

6.I would recommend that the managers for Hallstead Jewelers reevaluate their cost allocation in
respect to the size of their new store. Along with that, it is important for Hallstead to eliminate
their commissions cost. I would recommend increasing Hallstead s advertising costs because they
are still spending the same amount on advertising as they did when they were in the old, smaller
store. To start off, I would recommend to increase their advertising by the percentage increase in
their new store size: 50%. Also, Hallstead s should consider adding internet advertising to increase
its market size. This may be an opportunity for cheap advertising. The sales commission is an
unnecessary cost that is not practiced by Hallstead s competitors. The managers should take away
this variable cost to increase profitability. By making these changes, adding promotions and
advertisement, taking away an unnecessary variable cost this would increase profitability and pull
Hallstead s out of its declining bottom

The American dream is a unique thing to think about, some say it is exists, and they want to live
the American dream while others think it is a glorified idea of a good life. The two words,
American Dream, is such a broad statement and holds a different meaning for every individual.
What people thought the American dreamwas in the 1920s is different from what people think it is
now. In the 20s the dream was living a lavish lifestyle, with lots of money and a high social
ranking. Now the dream is the opportunity for everyone to be equal, and live a life that has shared

Critique Of The Defense Of Cover Songs
Critique for In Defense of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society snowballing from the
past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an
article Don Cusic, who has taught courses in the music business industry since 1982 and is known
as a pioneer of musicbusiness education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come
from being a historian of country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, and an author
of over 209 books and 500 articles (Belmont University). The reason that cover songs are an
important discussion in today s society is because there is an increase in cover song creation and
also a steady increase of criticism of cover songs. This is due to the... Show more content on

Cusic begins his paper with the effect of co writing asserting that the artist loses much more
money when they could have earned more if they had created a song themselves. He then goes
on to explain how fans and critics feel the need for a song to be legitimate and that if a singer
doesn t create his or her own song they are seen as an invalid artist. However, Cusic asserts that
fans and critics do not care for the artist s reason for creating the song, and that the audience s
connection to the song is the reason why it is even purchased or seen as real music. Cusic
affirms that singers who create cover songs are not any less legitimate compared to artists who
create original music and that singers have their own way of describing what a song means to
them. Next, he brings up the fact that a new audience can benefit a song, that history plays a
major role in the belief of cover songs and that the boundary between songwriters and singers are
meant to be respected. He explains that if an original song is covered, it receives the benefit of a
new audience learning about the history of the original song. This strengthens his assertion that,
Many times a cover is a history lesson for a new, young audience who never heard the original
(174). Cusic further explains that cover songs were created throughout time by providing many
well known songs and artists from the past like Elvis Presley and

Describe The Process Of Progress In The United States
What is progress? This is the question that has been raised frequently during our class
discussions in the past few weeks. The truth is the definition of progress varies from person to
person. Progression to some may be set backs to others. The New England colonies were a major
progression for the settlers that escaped religious prosecution. There, they flourished in a new
land. The Native Americans might not have seen this as progress though, because the settlers
were taking over their land. The same could be said for the word, development . For the sake of
this essay, my definition will be, the process of growth. Just like progress, it has an ambiguous
definition that can have good or bad consequences. The land and the people in North America
experienced a lot of growth once the European settlers decided to make the New World their
permanent home with the founding of Jamestown in 1607. During the colonial period through the
19th century, humans were the most important factor in the development of the United States. The
people living through these periods helped develop the land we stand on today through the clearing

Substance Abuse And Chemical Dependence
From the first essay, my knowledge about addiction/chemical dependence has expanded and
grown in many levels and ways. One of the most important aspects of substance abuse that gave
me a better understanding is dependence and its cause and effect. Although I knew people like
experimenting with drugs for many reasons such as out of curiosity, have a good time, peer
pressure, and other compelling factors. However, for so long I could not grasp why or how some
people even among siblings become addicted to the drug or alcohol and some don t. While I
realize, multiple factors can contribute to certain illnesses, disorders due to genetic vulnerability,
environmental stressors, social pressures, individual personality characteristics, and certain
psychiatric problems, but which of those factors have the biggest influence. Prior to this class, I
have mistakenly assumed that drug abusers lack moral principles or willpower...to some extent, so
it was their initial decision to take the drug, however. Now I know, my perception was wrong,
though I never judged anyone for such behavior, I rather was saddened. Throughout this course, I
have learned to view dependence from a different perspective. I have learned in depth, which gave
me a better understanding that people with an addictiondo not have control over what they are
doing, taking or using. Consequently, addiction may reach a point at which it is harmful and life
threatening if is not treated. Also, I have to admit

Energy Efficient House Research Paper
Energy Efficient Housing is an important part of maintaining a stable and healthy environment.
This is because poor energy efficiency results in the pollution and greenhouse gas emissions that
destroy the environment we live in. Energy Efficient Housing can help prevent this because it will
reduce the greenhouse gas emissions and energy, as well as the benefit of saving money. Energy
efficiency is the key to a greener and healthier environment.
There are plenty of different ways to achieve energy efficiency, such as using renewable energy
sources such as solar power and properly designing a house to make the best use of natural light
and rainwater as well as heating and cooling.

Analysis Of The Necklace By Guy De Maupassant
aupassant, Guy de. Guy De Maupassant s the Necklace, and Other Stories. New York:
French, 1984. Print. In this short story can be observed that tragedy is brought by human beings
foolish desire. Human beings desires, which are a strong hope to have or do something, become a
motivating power to accomplish something we want to do and therefore it makes us feel proud
and achieving. In this short stories, Maupassant gi ve some lesson. It is useful to reader because
we can see his writing skills in this stories. The author also demonstrates her unlimited desire
through symbolism and adjective words. For example, she suffers because of her grim apartment
with its drab walls, threadbare furniture, and ugly curtains and she wants to be envied, attractive
in a house with large, silent anterooms, with elegant valets and large drawing rooms draped in
the most expensive silks with fine end tables of inestimable value . These adjectives are enough to
show Mathilde s unrealistic awareness of her situation with innate pride, which is not expected to
come true. This bibliography is different with other bibliography because it isn t summarize whole
facts about Maupassant or his works but we can see a little part of Maupassant writing skills
through his story. This source help who needs to know what is the story about the necklace. Also, it

The Schisms Of The Catholic Church
The schisms of the Catholic Church is instrumental in creating a platform that sparks the
Reformation and eventually establishes the Protestant Church. Because of the stronghold
Christianity has and its ability to permeate within the confines of the Roman Empire, leaders decide
to befriend Christians and seek their support. With this in mind, believers are tolerated and
eventually, Theodosius I make Christianitythe state religion of the Empire and forbids the worship
of pagan gods. After Theodosius rule the Empire split, but the church maintains its relevance in
both the West and the East (Chase, Jacob, Jacob, Von Laue, 2013, p. 172).
Even though the Roman Empire in the West is captured by Germanic tribes, the East flourishes.

Alternate Theories On Women s Underrepresentation
Alternate Theories on Women s Underrepresentation Initially it was thought that women were
underrepresented in politics and elected office because they were underrepresented in the
eligibility pool (Welch, 1978, 372). The idea was that women were socialized to believe that
their duty was in the home raising children. As such, there were very few women in the
eligibility pool, the typical jobs that have a tendency to lend themselves to a future in public
office: law, business, and medicine among others (Welch, 1978, 373). This line of reasoning
would suggest that all that has to be done to increase the proportion of women in public office is
to increase their presence in such fields and disciplines (Fox, Lawless, and Feeley, 2001, 412).
This explanation, however, falls short. The proportion of women in these careers has increased
immensely and yet the disparity still persists (Fox and Lawless, 2011, 60). When considering
potential factors that contribute to women s underrepresentation in elected office, another thought
may be that perhaps voters just do not vote for women. Research shows that when women run they
tend to win at the same rate as men and, furthermore, there is little evidence to suggest any kind of
systemic bias against women at the polls (Lawless and Pearson, 2008, 67). However, additional
research into the matter has qualified this claim. There is evidence that voters tend to view
masculine characteristics being self confident, assertive, tough, and

##m And Discrimination In Gloria Naylor s Black Men And...
Racism and discrimination towards those of African descent can be hard topics to discuss,
especially since America still experiences the discriminatory effects of slavery. The history and
fundamentals of slavery has created a rift between whites and blacks that is seemingly
impossible to overcome. There has been and will be lasting social effects including racial slurs
and misconceptions based on how the world views African Americans. Brent Staples, in Black
Men and Public Space, details his experience being treated unfairly due to his racial status. Gloria
Naylor s Mommy, what does NiggerMean? discusses the authors first time being called the N
word, how she felt, and how she asked her mom about what it meant. Brent Staples Black Men
and Public Space , and Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does Nigger Mean? are similar through the
authors accounts of being treated poorly because of their African descent along with ways to cope
with that oppression, and contrast through their tone in the intro and through there experience of
being discriminated against and overall effect on the reader. Both authors explore examples in
which they are treated in a racist or discriminatory manner. Brent Staples encountered a younger
woman and came upon her late one evening on a deserted street... she cast back a worried
glance... picked up her pace and was soon running in earnest. (Staples 1) Just the mere sight of
him made the woman scared, after this experience he feels surprised, embarrassed, and dismayed
all at once. Her flight made me feel like an accomplice in tyranny. (2) He realizes that he is
indistinguishable from the muggers... (2), or at least to the woman. Staples experiences, first hand,
discrimination; the woman is fearful of him because of his race, and Staples feels the full effect of
that. Gloria Naylor recounts the first time she was ever called the N word. It was in class and
she she says she couldn t have been more puzzled. She didn t know what a nigger was, but she
did know it was something he shouldn t have called her (Naylor 3). She was thoroughly confused
and later asked her mother what the word meant. Naylor is treated poorly due to the color of her
skin. Similarly to Staples,

Goliath Bird Eating Spider Research Paper
The goliath bird eating spider is the heaviest of all spiders in the word weighing almost half a
pound! It is also arguably the largest spider competing with the giant huntsman spider. They both
have a leg span of about 12 inches! That s the size a small pizza! Their bodies are dark brown
covered by reddish hairs giving the spidera golden blond appearance. The coloration of this spider
gives it its species name blondi which is the Latin word for blond, or golden. The goliath bird
eating spider is found in rainforests from southern Venezuela east to Guyana, Suriname, French

Like all tarantulas, its body is covered in movement sensing hairs. Its eyes can only detect light

prey or predators. When threated, the bird eater will first rub its hind legs together very quickly
to make a loud hissing noise hoping to confuse and scare its predator. If that doesn t work they
will raise up on their hind legs and bear their inch long fangs. If bitten the predator will
experience extreme pain and swelling, but no permanent damage will be induced. If the predator
still won t them alone, they flick off hairs on its abdomen with its legs. These microscopically

Essay on Contributions of Diversity to the Workplace
Contributions of Diversity to the Workplace
Diverse employees bring a wealth of creativity, insights, and skills to their jobs; it is up to
employers to recognize, cultivate, and value these contributions (Walton, Sally, 1994). Diversity is
about setting a mindset of valuing the differences in people and recognizing the similarities, it is
not only about achieving results. Once this way of thinking is established, the benefits of cultural
diversity in the workplace tend to come naturally, (Goessl, Leigh 2008). Diversity encompasses
race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, cognitive style, tenure, organizational function,
education, background and more, (Greenberg, Josh 2004)

These differences are beneficial because it opens up new possibilities which can be experienced in
the form of innovation and creativity.
The various life experiences and alternate perspective shared with each other often lead to unique
new and innovative ideas that can be financially beneficial to the company because they often lead
to new products or services.
New Solutions: Often businesses experience a level of problems with their task processes or things
don t run as smoothly as they could. Through diversity solutions to problems can come forth that
may not have emerged if not for the different cultural backgrounds or practices.
Cost Effective: In an article written by Gail Robinson and Kathleen Dechant in 1997 entitled
Building a Business Case for Diversity , it was presented that several organizational studies
concluded pursuing diversity in the workplace resulted in less absenteeism, employee turnover
costs and a lessened liability in discrimination lawsuits.
Companies that have experienced any of these costs know firsthand how expensive they can be.
Appeal to Customer Base: People like to see themselves reflected in the organizations they do
business with. It stands to reason that the more culturally diverse a company is, the more diverse

The Positive Impact Of September 11 And Its Impacts
On September 11, 2001 at 8:46 am, the world that the world previously knew, changed forever. A
terrorist group, Al Qaeda, hijacked 4 different planes, all taking off from northeastern United
States, and took control. The first plane, American Airlines Flight 11, flew to New York City and
crashed into the North Tower of the World Trade Center
, killing everyone on board the plane as
well as hundreds of others trapped inside the building (history.com). Then, a second plane,
United Airlines Flight 175, crashed into the floors 75 85 of the World trade Center s South
Tower, again killing everyone on board as well as hundreds inside. Suddenly, all flights were
banned from taking off if they were going to New York City or through the airspace above the
city, but only about an hour later, Hijackers aboard Flight 77, crashed the third plane into the
western facade of the Pentagon in Washington D.C. Then, at 9:59 am, the unthinkable happens, the
South Tower collapses. Not even 30 minutes later the North Tower collapses as well, only 102
minutes about being struck by the plane (history.com). Around 2,996 people died because of this
terrorist attack and over 6,000 others were injured including 343 firefighters, 60 police officers, and
8 paramedics (Prince). This unexpected terrorist attacks has significant impacts to the economy, and
was especially detrimental considering it was completely unexpected. Immediately after the attack,

Swot Analysis Of Home Depot
Home Depot was one of the largest home improvement retailers of America with over 2248 stores
worldwide. It was founded by Bernie Marcus and Arthur Blank in 1978. Home Depot is
headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia. For two decades after its inception the company experienced
rapid growth. But in the early 2000s the company performance slowed down and Bob Nardelli was
named the new CEO. Earlier the company followed a decentralized organizational structure and that
worked well until 2000.
In early 1980s, the aim was to bring warehouse retailing concept to the home center industry. This
was considered to be the first successful company in Do it Yourself (DIY) segment and was
famous for providing high quality products with the low prices. The Home depot was a part of large,
rapidly growing and competitive home improvement industry during 1980 s. With two wage
earners in each household, families were willing to spend more money on home improvement
projects. Therefore, the DIY segment grew rapidly and the industry attached many competitors to
give tough competitions to each others. In early 1990, Lowe s became the largest competitor of
Home depot as the sales and growth were at the top for Lowe s stores which took Lowe to large
format warehouse stores.
Basis of Recommendation:
The success of the first three stores in 1979 encouraged the company to expand its business
rapidly and reach the 50th store opening by the fiscal year 1985. Due to rapid expansion, the sales
grew from $40

He summed up human nature as existence precedes essence . In his book, Existentialism and
Human Emotions, he explained what he meant by this. It means that, first of all, man exists, turns
up, appears on the scene, and, only afterwards, defines himself. If man, as the existentialist
conceives him, is indefinable, it is because at first he is nothing. Only afterward will be
something, and he himself will have made what he will be 4 . After watching 12 Angry Men, the
prominent view on human nature that is best portrayed in the movie is that people are free to be

The Problem Posing By Paulo Freire
Classroom experiences are like polyatomic ions: some are positive while others are negative.
While the majority of the experiences at the West Genesee School District have been positive, I
can recollect one experience that was particularly negative. During the duration of my Advanced
Placement global history course, I was the subject in a class, that, by definition, would be closer to
the problem posing classroom that Paulo Freiredescribes in his piece The Banking Concept of
Education. In his works, Paulo Freire asserts that the problem posing education makes them [the
students] critical thinkers (Freire 221). As Freire describes, a class that implements the problem
posing policy is one in which students are to become critical thinkers. Freire would have been
ecstatic that other educators carried out his ideas in their own problem posing classroom. My
teacher me made it unequivocal that this class was going to challenge the way we analyzed and
understood history. The teacher continued to describe the role of the student in the classroom; the
educator expected the pupil to analyze readings and argue about what the pupil deemed to be the
most important concepts presented. Regardless of the content, Egyptian hieroglyphics or Genghis
Kahn, while the students studied history, the teacher insisted that the students evaluated the
relationships between the causes, effects, and relevance of various topics throughout the course. In
addition, the student prepared to discuss

Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory
Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory in Organizational Diversity
Psychologist Abraham Maslow established a theory of motivation to justify how people in diverse
organizations behave. His human requirements theory states that humans are never completely
satisfied; that they crave satisfaction and those requirements can be classified into a hierarchy
based upon importance. The lowest level of importance includes peoples desire to satisfy their
physical needs, such as hunger and thirst. Following the lowest level, individuals need basic
security and stability. After physical and safety needs are satisfied, individuals have the desire to
gain acceptance into a group and to establish meaningful relationships. Once this need is somewhat
fulfilled, one will strive for self confidence and personal achievement. Lastly, an individual must
realize their potential or they will become dissatisfied and discontent. This theory assists managers
to motivate subordinates in a diverse workplace by ensuring low level needs are met first. Then,
management will be able to pursue supervising employees as they complete more multifaceted
tasks. An effective manager influences employees positively by creating a safe work environment,
providing the necessary tools and resources and involving employees in decision making processes
(Maslow, 1943, 1954).
Maslow s hierarchy of needs theory has particularly created a glass ceiling in art museum curating
by hindering individuals personal achievements,

change the Common Alerting Protocol (EDXL CAP 1.2), by way of approval of the Organization
for the Advancement of Structured Information Standards. The Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) declared that the alerting industry had to come into compliance with the new

Influence Of Soccer On American Culture
The Embracement of Soccer
The rest of the world lives and breathes soccer much like Americans live and breathe football.
The world embraces soccer because soccer brings people and their countries together. Nations
throughout the world come together for 90 minutes to see what nation will prevail so much so
that soccer is said to be the unofficial universal language throughout the world. But many people
in the U.S. have never watch a full soccer game in their lifetime. This is why U.S. will never
embrace the sport of soccer because of national dominance, money, and location unlike the rest of
the world. A lack of national team dominance within the U.S. is a major problem for the sport
soccer for many reasons. The first reason is due to the American culture about being the best. The
quote you have to beat the best before you can be the best is very true for the American culture.
For example the Super Bowl only awards the winning team a trophy. So for an American team to

The sport of soccer is heavily based around a tournament format. In other words, once a team wins a
tournament they are then labeled a successful team. There are two problems that the U.S. cannot fix
due to where it is located. The first problem is one tournament that the U.S. competes for on a
normal basis. The Gold Cup is a tournament that the United State competes in with other North
American teams and is hosted by North American nation. The issue with this tournament is there
are not many quality teams that compete in this tournament. The second problem with the location
is that the United States cannot compete for certain tournaments. A prime example would be the
Euros that are held in Europe every four years. The only teams allowed in this tournament are
teams that are located inside of the continent of Europe. Therefore one of the major limitations for
the growth U.S. soccer is

Personal Theory
Alfred Adler was born in 1870 in Austria and developed his own theory on Individual Psychology
in 1912. Adler s theory is closely related to Humanistic Psychology. Influenced by Freud, Smuts
and Vaihinger, Adler based his theory on the client s ability to live as a fully functioning adult in
society. Adler s holistic theory views each person as unified. Adler discussed birth order personality
traits. Adler s theory also discussed the roles therapists should take and the techniques that should
be used in Individual Psychology therapy sessions.
A major difference in Adlerian psychology compared to Freudian is the client is viewed as
lacking courage, instead of being mentally ill in Freud s theory. Adler s belief, that a person s
consciousness is the center of their personality differed from Freud s belief. (Wood, 2004). Adler
agreed with Freud that gratification is a central need but Adler goes on to also imply that clients
have needs for power, security, self esteem, achievement and social welfare. Day (2008)
emphasizes that people can decide how to state their needs, but may not be able to be in charge of
their needs.
Furthermore, Adler had different viewpoints regarding

  • 2. What Does Anthropology Mean To Me Anthropology and what it means was very interesting to me but the thing that spoke out to me is holistic perspective. This is a fundamental principle of anthropology, that the various parts of our human culture and biology must be viewed in the broadest possible context in order to understand their interconnections and interdependence . This means we must have an open mind when studying anthropologyand see the world with a new pair of eyes; not those, which only know our own culture. In a way anthropologist are scientists performing experiments and have no personal say in what is the correct outcome of that experiment. Woodstock 1969 Case Study As the intended event planner for Woodstock 2010, it is my responsibility to examine previous Woodstock events (1969, 1994, and 1999) to assist in my preparation for this event. Furthermore, by studying the past triumphs and failures, I can recreate the elements that worked and improve upon the elements that were failures. Indeed, close attention will be paid to identifying the most critical areas of concern, identifying three additional areas needing attention, and determining the previous event s goals and objectives. In my opinion, the most critical area of concern would be the damage to the Woodstock brand, since poor management has led to violence and exploitation of festivalgoers, hosting communities, and sponsors (Crowd Management Strategies, 2015). Another major area of concern is the location that in 1999 was on Griffiss Air Force Base s concrete and tarmac surfaces versus 1969s dairy farm location, which led the 1999 crowd to experience widespread heat exhaustion issues (19 Worst Things About Woodstock 99,... The purpose of this paper is to persuade and demonstrate that ongoing Military engagements are direct contributors to the peace, economy and political stability throughout Southeast Asia. The History and Economic Relationships After the Spanish American war a series of opportunities brought a lot of regional players and foreign powers to the Philippines, the United States took the position that Spain once had. The Unites States saw the Philippines islands as a strategic place that would open commerce and trade to the far east Asia from the beginning and their stance did not change after their surrender. After World War II (WWII) most countries in Southeast Asiabecame independent. Most countries in the region share a business and trade relationship which is in favor of their individual and collective growth, while some others share problems with migration, limited resources and political vitality. For some time, the United States have been a key influencer of stability providing military presence and advising countries throughout southeast Asia to maintain territorial and economic integrity. After the independence of a few countries in Indochina, countries with India and China influences located in the same continental area, the Vietnam War began with the communist North Vietnam attempt to conquer the south. • 5. Banquo Alternate Ending Veronica walked into the kitchen, fresh, clean, and free from the dream of earlier. She wore only a casual outfit of jeans and camisole top. No need to dress up if she had the evening off. She brewed a pot of extremely strong coffee and ate a slice of dry toast as she waited. She never was a huge breakfast eater. She saw an open box of cereal with loose cereal pieces on the counter. She rolled her eyes as she cleaned up the mess and put the box away. The open box was one of her biggest pet peeves. Looks like Brayden had breakfast, she thought. He was a good kid, but messy. She supposed most kids were. She d have to have a talk with him about it. I think this because when the narrator says the best place to hide a leaf is in the forest , he is referring to a way to hide The Book of Sand. At first he considered destroying the evil thing. Although he thought that the burning of an infinite book might be similarly infinite, and suffocate the planet in smoke . Therefore he thought to hide the book in plain sight. Hiding a leaf in the forest is like hiding a book in a library. He hid the book on one of the library s damp shelves in the basement and tried not to notice where exactly he put it. He did this so he and anyone else wouldn t be able to find the monstrous book. He didn t want to be a prisoner of the book anymore. The programs typically include a jail tour and presentations from inmates with the intention of frightening participants into turning their life around. The original pilot program was featured in a 1978 documentary entitled Scared Straight, which was directed by Arnold Shapiro and narrated by Peter Falk. The documentary followed 19 juvenile delinquents as they participated in the program. Today, the A E series Beyond Scared Straight follows participants through these programs all over the United States. Michael Royster, professor of Criminology at Prairie View A M University, would agree. In analyzing the results of the original Scared Straight pilot program in 1978, Royster notices a large discrepancy in the rates of recidivism of the pilot program compared to modern day Scared Straight style programs. The rates of recidivism among participants in the pilot program are significantly lower than those who participate today. In Petrosino s research, he found that 41% of children who participated in a Scared Straight style program in New Jersey committed a new crime after the program, while a control group, who came from the same background, but did not go through the program, showed only 11% recidivism. International trade has had a profound impact on global wealth while also increasing the quality of life for societies around the world. Banking, and in particular, international banking facilities the exchange of capital to areas of the world that need it. These inflows of capital help to foster ingenuity, creativity, and innovation to help spur international growth. As such, each year, globalizationplays a more profound role in regards to the national economies of the world. Globalization has allowed for the expansion of corporate operations beyond their natural domestic boundaries. As such it has contributed to an increased standard of living for those who embrace its presence and are therefore willing to take risks (Stiglitz, 2007). Free trade therefore, is a welcomed addition within the overarching trend of globalization. International financial institutions, both directly and indirectly facilitate free trade among international countries. Free trade allows for the transfer of goods and services when demanded by specific economies. This is much like the exchange of capital needed to help individual companies to grow. It also allows the countries best suited for such activities to flourish. For example, China is proficient in manufacturing which allows the country to export far more goods than it imports. This is partly due to free trade and international ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To start off, I would recommend to increase their advertising by the percentage increase in their new store size: 50%. Also, Hallstead s should consider adding internet advertising to increase its market size. This may be an opportunity for cheap advertising. The sales commission is an unnecessary cost that is not practiced by Hallstead s competitors. The managers should take away this variable cost to increase profitability. • 14. Critique Of The Defense Of Cover Songs Critique for In Defense of Cover Songs There is a belief in today s society snowballing from the past that a cover song is merely a copy or rip off of the original. This dilemma is discussed in an article Don Cusic, who has taught courses in the music business industry since 1982 and is known as a pioneer of musicbusiness education. Cusic s other accomplishments and credibility come from being a historian of country music, a scholar and writer known worldwide, and an author of over 209 books and 500 articles (Belmont University). Cusic begins his paper with the effect of co writing asserting that the artist loses much more money when they could have earned more if they had created a song themselves. He then goes on to explain how fans and critics feel the need for a song to be legitimate and that if a singer doesn t create his or her own song they are seen as an invalid artist. However, Cusic asserts that fans and critics do not care for the artist s reason for creating the song, and that the audience s connection to the song is the reason why it is even purchased or seen as real music. Cusic affirms that singers who create cover songs are not any less legitimate compared to artists who create original music and that singers have their own way of describing what a song means to them. Next, he brings up the fact that a new audience can benefit a song, that history plays a major role in the belief of cover songs and that the boundary between songwriters and singers are meant to be respected. He explains that if an original song is covered, it receives the benefit of a new audience learning about the history of the original song. This strengthens his assertion that, Many times a cover is a history lesson for a new, young audience who never heard the original (174). The truth is the definition of progress varies from person to person. Progression to some may be set backs to others. The New England colonies were a major progression for the settlers that escaped religious prosecution. There, they flourished in a new land. The Native Americans might not have seen this as progress though, because the settlers were taking over their land. The same could be said for the word, development . One of the most important aspects of substance abuse that gave me a better understanding is dependence and its cause and effect. • 27. Alternate Theories On Women s Underrepresentation Alternate Theories on Women s Underrepresentation Initially it was thought that women were underrepresented in politics and elected office because they were underrepresented in the eligibility pool (Welch, 1978, 372). The idea was that women were socialized to believe that their duty was in the home raising children. As such, there were very few women in the eligibility pool, the typical jobs that have a tendency to lend themselves to a future in public office: law, business, and medicine among others (Welch, 1978, 373). This line of reasoning would suggest that all that has to be done to increase the proportion of women in public office is to increase their presence in such fields and disciplines (Fox, Lawless, and Feeley, 2001, 412). This explanation, however, falls short. The proportion of women in these careers has increased immensely and yet the disparity still persists (Fox and Lawless, 2011, 60). When considering potential factors that contribute to women s underrepresentation in elected office, another thought may be that perhaps voters just do not vote for women. Research shows that when women run they tend to win at the same rate as men and, furthermore, there is little evidence to suggest any kind of systemic bias against women at the polls (Lawless and Pearson, 2008, 67). However, additional research into the matter has qualified this claim. There is evidence that voters tend to view masculine characteristics being self confident, assertive, tough, and ... Racism and discrimination towards those of African descent can be hard topics to discuss, especially since America still experiences the discriminatory effects of slavery. The history and fundamentals of slavery has created a rift between whites and blacks that is seemingly impossible to overcome. There has been and will be lasting social effects including racial slurs and misconceptions based on how the world views African Americans. Brent Staples, in Black Men and Public Space, details his experience being treated unfairly due to his racial status. Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does NiggerMean? discusses the authors first time being called the N word, how she felt, and how she asked her mom about what it meant. Brent Staples Black Men and Public Space , and Gloria Naylor s Mommy, what does Nigger Mean? are similar through the authors accounts of being treated poorly because of their African descent along with ways to cope with that oppression, and contrast through their tone in the intro and through there experience of being discriminated against and overall effect on the reader. Both authors explore examples in which they are treated in a racist or discriminatory manner. Brent Staples encountered a younger woman and came upon her late one evening on a deserted street... she cast back a worried glance... picked up her pace and was soon running in earnest. (Staples 1) Just the mere sight of him made the woman scared, after this experience he feels surprised, embarrassed, and dismayed all at once. Her flight made me feel like an accomplice in tyranny. (2) He realizes that he is indistinguishable from the muggers... (2), or at least to the woman. Once this way of thinking is established, the benefits of cultural diversity in the workplace tend to come naturally, (Goessl, Leigh 2008). Diversity encompasses race, gender, ethnic group, age, personality, cognitive style, tenure, organizational function, education, background and more, (Greenberg, Josh 2004) With today s business environment moving towards a global ... New Solutions: Often businesses experience a level of problems with their task processes or things don t run as smoothly as they could. Through diversity solutions to problems can come forth that may not have emerged if not for the different cultural backgrounds or practices. Cost Effective: In an article written by Gail Robinson and Kathleen Dechant in 1997 entitled Building a Business Case for Diversity , it was presented that several organizational studies concluded pursuing diversity in the workplace resulted in less absenteeism, employee turnover costs and a lessened liability in discrimination lawsuits. We see different views, different opinions of men such as altruism, egoism, good and evil. It is no doubt that human beings possess either one or any of these characteristics, which make them unique. It is safe to say that our actions, beliefs, and choices separate us from animals and non livings. The 20th century English philosopher, Martin Hollis, once said, Free will the ability to make decisions about how to act is what distinguishes people from non human animals and machines 1 . It means that, first of all, man exists, turns up, appears on the scene, and, only afterwards, defines himself. If man, as the existentialist conceives him, is indefinable, it is because at first he is nothing. Only afterward will be something, and he himself will have made what he will be 4 . After watching 12 Angry Men, the prominent view on human nature that is best portrayed in the movie is that people are free to be whatever they want because as Sartre said, people create themselves every moment of everyday according to the choices they make 5 . Firstly, perhaps the most egoistic man seen in the film would be Juror 3. He is characterized in the movie as a very strong and very forceful, an extremely opinionated man with a streak of sadism 6. He is intolerant of opinions other than his own and is accustomed to forcing his wishes and views upon others 7. He admitted that he would pull the switch on the boy if he had the chance, claiming that the boy is guilty without going over the evidence thoroughly, even when the evidence proves the boy is innocent. • 36. The Problem Posing By Paulo Freire Classroom experiences are like polyatomic ions: some are positive while others are negative. While the majority of the experiences at the West Genesee School District have been positive, I can recollect one experience that was particularly negative. During the duration of my Advanced Placement global history course, I was the subject in a class, that, by definition, would be closer to the problem posing classroom that Paulo Freiredescribes in his piece The Banking Concept of Education. In his works, Paulo Freire asserts that the problem posing education makes them [the students] critical thinkers (Freire 221). As Freire describes, a class that implements the problem posing policy is one in which students are to become critical thinkers. Freire would have been ecstatic that other educators carried out his ideas in their own problem posing classroom. My teacher me made it unequivocal that this class was going to challenge the way we analyzed and understood history. The teacher continued to describe the role of the student in the classroom; the educator expected the pupil to analyze readings and argue about what the pupil deemed to be the most important concepts presented. Regardless of the content, Egyptian hieroglyphics or Genghis Kahn, while the students studied history, the teacher insisted that the students evaluated the relationships between the causes, effects, and relevance of various topics throughout the course. • 38. Maslow s Hierarchy Of Needs Theory Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs Theory in Organizational Diversity Psychologist Abraham Maslow established a theory of motivation to justify how people in diverse organizations behave. His human requirements theory states that humans are never completely satisfied; that they crave satisfaction and those requirements can be classified into a hierarchy based upon importance. The lowest level of importance includes peoples desire to satisfy their physical needs, such as hunger and thirst. Following the lowest level, individuals need basic security and stability. After physical and safety needs are satisfied, individuals have the desire to gain acceptance into a group and to establish meaningful relationships. Once this need is somewhat fulfilled, one will strive for self confidence and personal achievement. Lastly, an individual must realize their potential or they will become dissatisfied and discontent. This theory assists managers to motivate subordinates in a diverse workplace by ensuring low level needs are met first. Then, management will be able to pursue supervising employees as they complete more multifaceted tasks. An effective manager influences employees positively by creating a safe work environment, providing the necessary tools and resources and involving employees in decision making processes (Maslow, 1943, 1954). This personal unmaking is what hits on the phobic pressure points for many people, including the loss of a child and being haunted ( King 18). A phobic pressure point as King best describes it is a primal instinctual fear that is widespread and works on a personal level. The loss of a child can be best described as a primal instinctual fear, causing an immediate reaction from the mother when her child is lost. But many people in the U.S. have never watch a full soccer game in their lifetime. This is why U.S. will never embrace the sport of soccer because of national dominance, money, and location unlike the rest of the world. Personal Theory Alfred Adler was born in 1870 in Austria and developed his own theory on Individual Psychology in 1912. Adler s theory is closely related to Humanistic Psychology. Influenced by Freud, Smuts and Vaihinger, Adler based his theory on the client s ability to live as a fully functioning adult in society. Adler s holistic theory views each person as unified. Adler discussed birth order personality traits. Adler s theory also discussed the roles therapists should take and the techniques that should be used in Individual Psychology therapy sessions. A major difference in Adlerian psychology compared to Freudian is the client is viewed as lacking courage, instead of being mentally ill in Freud s theory. Adler s belief, that a person s consciousness is the center of their personality differed from Freud s belief. (Wood, 2004). Adler agreed with Freud that gratification is a central need but Adler goes on to also imply that clients have needs for power, security, self esteem, achievement and social welfare.
