Beowulf Characteristics
Beowulf, the main character of this short story, is considered a hero during this time period. He was
the only man who was strong enough to kill all the bad monsters, stopping them from murdering the
people, and driving them out of their town for good. The unstoppable monsters that have been killing
for years, Beowulf stopped, which was no small deal. For that, everyone respected and admired him
because of his strength and hero like actions. Beowulf is a hero and everything he does in the story
supports it.
Beowulf s personality portrays large amounts of persistence. He knew he was abnormal in his ability
to fight. So he went out, traveled across the sea, and fought the big, bad monster that had been
terrorizing hundreds of people throughout the dark of each and every night. In his far off home
Beowulf, Higlac s Follower and the strongest of the Geats greater and stronger than anyone anywhere
in this world heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted
out, proclaiming that he d go to that famous king, would sail across the sea to Hrothgar, now when
help was needed. (Beowulf 36)
Although he most probably had doubts and fears towards defeating Grendel, the monster, he still went
out and took a chance to save many lives, for the greater good. Again, showing his heroic tendencies
and the need to risk his life for others. My hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the
monster. G d must decide who will be given to

A Research Project On The Data Collection Process
Manatowa Research Project Report
Identify and describe key lessons learned in your data collection process
The first potential participant I spoke with on the phone asked me a question, can any staff member
volunteer to participate or do they have to be a licensed social worker ? A very valid question and
something I had not anticipated. I did not know how to answer her at first. That fact was not part of
my research design. As explained by the University of Oxford Personnel Service UAS (2015) among
the standards in research is the practice code of being honest in proposing, conducting and reporting
research. Academic research often has class timeline parameters which puts a strain on the academic
researcher. The integrity of the researcher in academic research class may be tested by shortcomings
as the result of faults in the design phase. The academic research must choose to do the right thing and
act in an ethical manner when situations arise such as in the recruitment of participants and
modifications during the data collection phase.
Research design can eliminate potential pitfalls and challenges during research data collection and
interpretation of that data. Spending more time and effort in the design phase will help to eliminate
and/or reduce such ethical situations. Crotty (1998) suggested:
1. What epistemology, theory of knowledge, embedded in the theoretical perspective, informs the
research (e.g., objectivism, subjectivism, etc.)?

Kinetic Energy Science Project
There is energy all around us. We have energy in our everyday lives but we normally don t think about
the energy being used. For example, a cup on a table, this is potential energy. It is not moving and it is
completely still on the table. When you re driving in your car you are using kinetic energy. In this
experience we are using potential, kinetic, and gravitational potential energy. We are using these forms
of energy, math, and science to test how fast an object will roll down a ramp.
Kinetic energy is energy due to motion in which case all moving objects have kinetic energy. For
example, a boulder rolling down a mountain has kinetic energy. All moving objects have kinetic
energy. In this experiment, we will use kinetic energy when we are rolling the object down the ramp.
This is kinetic energy because it is The object will be moving. Potential energy is stored ... Show more

Cite Source Analysis
How do I cite sources?
This depends on what type of work you are writing, how you are using the borrowed material, and the
expectations of your instructor.
First, you have to think about how you want to identify your sources. If your sources are very
important to your ideas, you should mention the author and work in a sentence that introduces your
citation. If, however, you are only citing the source to make a minor point, you may consider using
parenthetical references, footnotes, or endnotes.
There are also different forms of citation for different disciplines. For example, when you cite sources
in a psychology paper you would probably use a different form of citation than you might in a paper
for an English class.
Finally, you should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If the source is central to your work, you may want to introduce it in a separate sentence or two,
summarizing its importance and main ideas. But often you can just tag this information onto the
beginning or end of a sentence. For example, the following sentence puts information about the author
and work before the quotation:
Milan Kundera, in his book The Art of the Novel, suggests that if the novel should really disappear, it
will do so not because it has exhausted its powers but because it exists in a world grown alien to it.
You may also want to describe the author(s) if they are not famous, or if you have reason to believe
your reader does not know them. You should say whether they are economic analysts, artists,
physicists, etc. If you do not know anything about the author, and cannot find any information, it is
best to say where you found the source and why you believe it is credible and worth citing. For
example,

Effects of Methadone Treatment on Heroin Dependency
Running head: METHADONE AND DEPENDENCY
The Effects of Methadone Treatment on Opiate and Heroin Dependency
Since the early times, opiates, heroin, and other drugs have been used in providing analgesia as well as
substitutes to reach a place of euphoria. Originally, as Yurgelum Todd et al (2009) has noted, derived
from the opium poppy, heroin has been used as an alternative to morphine in dealing with addiction
(Yurgelum Todd, p. 175, 2009). Unfortunately, over the years it has consistently become prevalent that
heroin has more negative aspects than anything; heroin is highly addictive, resulting in consequences
such as overdoses, infections, violence and crime, deficits in memory, learning, and ... Show more

diseases, and those that are taking medication that may contradict results in order to help minimize
risk to participants (Greenwald, p. 54, 2009). In all, Greenwald was able to put together a research
study of one hundred twenty six participants. Each participant underwent a medical and drug use
history check; signed a written consent form; produced blood and urine samples; and performed
routine laboratory physical examinations (Greenwald, p. 54, 2009). Out of the one hundred twenty six
participants, Greenwald reported that a grand total of eighty two individuals were excluded from the
study: thirty for medical problems, twenty one for substance abuse or dependence, twelve for
psychiatric problems, sixteen for not returning to complete the screening procedures, and three for
other reasons. This resulted in forty four subjects for the study, two of which became employed
leaving the number at a final forty two (Greenwald, p. 54, 2009). The study was carried across fifteen
days in specifically repeated measures (Greenwald, p. 54, 2009). The two groups were established
based on the level and power of heroin cravings. Greenwald tested their levels of cravings after the
first three days of methadone administration as well as through a computerized, forty five item scale.

Crisis Of Faith In King Lear Essay
The beliefs of people are often influenced by the environment they live in. Sometimes, an individual is
forced to act out of necessity and not on principles. In the play, King Lear, Shakespeare gives a clear
illustration on how the hidden human intentions are bound to be exposed at the right time. The ever
changing world has seen the beliefs and nature of man change alongside it. In the long run, a person
may not be sure of what to believe in anymore. The essay will look at how King Lear and Edmund
suffer from crisis of faith as well as demonstrate how time and experience changes the beliefs of man,
and how even the most trusted people can lead to one s downfall. The phrase crisis of faith can be
defined as a situation in which one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

and words and sees her as rude. She is immediately banished from the kingdom and the King of
France successfully asks for her hand in marriage.
Immediately the youngest daughter is sent away, the two remaining daughters begin to plot for the
downfall of their father. They are actually scheming to kill him. Goneril says Not to be overruled. Idle
old man (1.3.17). The king s help comes from a person he had also sent away but decided to disguise
himself and just stay around. He was called Kent. Kent, after receiving warning from Gloucester,
decided to take the king away to Dover. At this point, he revealed his true identity and King Lear must
have regretted his earlier action on him. The climax of Lear s crisis of faith is revealed when Cordelia,
the daughter he had earlier rejected organizes French troops to come and rescue him from the other

Anne Frank Reflection
The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through the
mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were
sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this,
one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe
people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she
still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the play based on Anne s real
diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree
with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now,
I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me,
according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed.
Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I
agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr.
Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes
place:
Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill.
Anne: What is it?
Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while?
During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night. Everyone
was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She accidentally woke
everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else
go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for
his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him
to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne,
but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about
others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father
should do.
Now, just because I

Land Of Fish Analysis
The civilization, Land of Fish, is based off a Japanese themed civilization that is located in coastal
China at c. 500 600 CE. The civilization borrows from Japan, China, Athens, and Rome, and is a
syncretic blend of language, art, architecture, writing, religion, and government of the aforementioned
civilizations with a unique social structure. The location of the Land of Fish is found in southern
coastal China. The location helps sustain the civilization as the people are able to benefit from food
and resources from the sea. The coastal region allows the civilization to trade with sea based materials
and seafood. The civilization faces the East China Sea, and is also located near the Yellow River and
the Yangtze River, with both rivers used as a water and food source. Though the Land of Fish does
have farms on the outskirts, the economy is largely based off the sea. The ports of the civilization are
widely accessible to other civilizations, bringing in trade and new goods. In the civilization, the main
marketplace is in the center of the Land of Fish, the central location allowing accessibility for
anybody. Some marketplaces are also found scattered throughout the part of the civilization where the
middle class and merchants are located, near the coast. More inland, near the farms, the peasants are
located separate from majority of the middle class and high class. The elite and high class are found in
a separate part of the civilization, near the government buildings,

Gimpel the Fool
There are a variety of different conclusions that one can reach in interpreting the story of Gimpel the
Fool. The story draws its roots from the deep Yiddish background of the author, Isaac Bashevis Singer,
and it deals with the traditional ―fool‖ archetype dealt with so often in the culture. The very archetype
is plagued with irony, as the fool is typically seen as coming out on top of all of the others in the story,
making them seem as the fool rather than the ―fool‖ himself. Gimpel the Fool follows the archetype
well. In some instances, the idea of this particular archetype can be frustrating, as the typical reader
may want the main character to get the revenge he deserves. This is rarely the case, as in doing so, it
would make the main ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gimpel was an orphan raised by his grandfather, who died early on, and was taken in by a baker.
Everyone tried to fool him while he was living with the baker. Even with as much as he was made fun
of, he never chose to fight back. He was not a weakling and could have fought back, but chose not to.
The rabbi once told him ―It is written, beter to be a fool al your days than for one hour to be evil. You
are not a fool. They are the fools. For he who causes his neighbor to feel shame loses Paradise
himself.‖ Regardless, the rabbi s own daughter played a prank on him. Gimpel later gets tricked into
marrying a divorced woman. He had suspicions the whole time, but decided to go ahead with it
anyway. Her name was Elka, and she was an orphan like Gimpel. Fiction Essays 49 Four months into
their marriage, Elka gave birth to a son. She tried to tell him that it was his son, but he didn t believe
her at first. He came to love the child, and didn t dislike her, either, even though she yelled and cursed
at him. One day, Gimpel came home to find a man laying in bed with his wife while they were
sleeping, and although he was angered, he decided not to do anything in fear of waking the child. He
went to the rabbi for advice, and the rest of the town raised a commotion. Elka denied the accusation.

Parking Spaces At The New Livermore Bart Station
Parking Statistics
Introduction
A parking structure is being built for the new Livermore BART station. The Livermore Department of
Transportation would like to provide as many parking spaces as possible in the parking structure. This
study will determine an ideal parking space size in order to maximize the amount of available spaces
while still accommodating an appropriate range of car sizes.
Methods
We located a sample pool of automobiles that accurately reflected the socio economic demographic of
the Livermore area to determine the type of cars owned in the community. From this sample we
determined the range in car sizes that would be parking in the new parking structure. We measured a
sample of the automobile s lengths and widths to determine the mean and deviation of the vehicles the
new parking structure would need to accommodate. We determined the seven parking lots of Las
Positas College was an accurate and large enough representation of the demographic that would be
utilizing the Livermore BART station parking structure. Different student demographics use different
parking lots on campus. The trucks and bigger vehicles driven by the firefighting students, veterans
and welding students parked in the lots closer to their buildings. For this reason, we found it necessary
to take sample measurements from all seven parking lots at the Las Positas College campus so that we
would have an accurate sample of the lifestyles reflected by car sizes that would be using the

merging of different small media outlets such as TV, radio, newspapers, and internet. Big companies
tend to buy out other smaller companies in the market to increase their revenue by increasing their

With the closure of the Reporter in 2003, the city of Cambridge lost its oldest local news coverage
source in Southern Ontario. Some criticizers claim that Torstar closed the Reporter to make room for

the closure of many local media outlets lots of employees will be left unemployed. In 2009, 1000
journalists lost their jobs in local newspapers in Northcliffe in the United Kingdome because
Northcliffe Media Company lost 37% of these newspapers advertising revenue (Toynbee 1). Also,

conglomeration of media needs lots of attention as it is threatening democracy in Canada.
Conglomeration of media made corporations care about the business part of the media more than the

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Binary Options Demo Account
correctrade.com What is a binary options demo account? August 3rd, 2016
Headline: What is a binary options demo account?
Binary options trading is fairly straightforward and even a newbie can learn it in a short time.
However, owing to general volatility of the financial markets, it s risky for an inexperienced trader to
make a substantial amount of deposit and start trading for real. For that reason, many platforms have a
binary options demo account in place in order to provide the traders a risk free environment for
trading. A demo account is indispensable for a new trader as it requires no upfront commitment.
Types of trading accounts

Thus, when they start trading for real, they are well prepared and quickly adapt to the constantly
changing environment of the financial markets.
Disadvantages of a demo account
Although a demo account is indispensable for the traders, it has a few disadvantages as well.
Taking unnecessary risks A demo account comes with a large amount of practice money, even up to
$100,000. Naturally, this tends to encourage a trader to take some unnecessary risks which he would
totally avoid if it was his actual investment. The risk taking behaviour develops into a habit and can
lead to the depletion of an entire trading account as soon as the trader begins trading for real.
Unrealistic expectations Even if a trader executes a series of successful trades using a binary options
demo account, he might not be able to replicate the same level of success in a real account. Markets
and asset trends change constantly because various macroeconomic and political factors are at play.
Therefore, placing successful trades require careful and constant analysis of the trends over extended

Rhetorical Analysis Of Defending Free Speech On College...
Free speech on college campuses has been a widely debated topic in recent years. Because of this, the
opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses , the
Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial
Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put
on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not
receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful how does the author support
these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses, introduces a valid logical
argument on education through describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable
learning situations, and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about
content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?]
The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals and its relatability to
students. [These are two different ideas which is going to make your paragraph rather jumbled. How
could you reorganize to make sure each paragraph is focused on a single unified idea?] The author
argues the importance in not going so far in protecting undergraduates (n.p.) from controversial or
touchy subjects. A substantial part of education consists of understanding your opinion, as well as, the

What Is The Mood Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening
Vitoria Poejo
Although the destination after one s journey is a great achievement, many tend to overlook the
amazing things one passes while on their journey. Robert Frost shows the beauty of the extraordinary
things they pass in his poem, Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening. In the poem, the speaker is
traveling in the woods on a dark snowy night. He soon comes to a stop to take in the nature around
him. The speaker is so enthralled by the falling snow, that he forgets that he must continue on his
journey. By using visual imagery, formal diction and repetition the poet shows that one should not

Table For Ladies, By Edward Hopper, And His Wife
Tables for Ladies is set in the interior of an unknown restaurant. There are four figures in this piece:
two guests, a cashier, and a waitress. The two guests, a man and a woman, are sitting at one of the
tables and seem to be having a conversation. The cashier stands nearby the cash register, possibly
counting the amount of money in it. The waitress is arranging the display of fruit, which is presumably
at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant contains wall mirrors, polished woodwork and
checkerboard blue and white tiles on the floor. The artist, Edward Hopper, and his wife, Jo, had given
each figure a name while this piece was painting. The couple is Max Scherer and his wife, Sadie, the
cashier is Anne Popebogales and the waitress is Olga. By personal observation, this piece contains
bright and vibrant colors. It also seems to portray a scene that can be identified in modern, everyday
life, as opposed to an art piece based on religious scenes from the Bible or Greek or Roman
mythology. This painting is meant to portray the changing roles of women after the First World War,
which can be evident in the fact that the two people working in this restaurant are both women.
The painting was created by American artist, Edward Hopper. Hopper is possibly best known for his
painting, Nighthawks. Tables for Ladies contrasts this piece with its well light setting and warm,
vibrant colors. Nighthawks also features a restaurant as its setting, however, this piece is set at night.

The Battle Of Chancellorsville, Virginia
The battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia was fought from April 30 through May 6, 1863. It was fought
between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia commanded by General Robert E. Lee, and the
Federal Army of the Potomac commanded by Major General Joseph Hooker. The intent of this battle
was for Major General Hooker s Union force to cross the Rappahannock River west of
Chancellorsville in order to gain control of the Virginia Central and Fredericksburg rail lines; these rail
lines were essential to the Army of Northern Virginia because they were the main supply lines to
Richmond, the capitol of the Confederate states. The Union knew that by gaining the supply line to
Richmond and defeating General Lee, was crucial because this would cause the Confederate strategic
center of gravity to fall, essentially leading to an end of the Civil War. However, the Army of the
Potomac lost the battle of Chancellorsville against General Lee s Army of Northern Virginia, and the
Civil War raged on. The battle of Chancellorsville is generally viewed as General Robert E. Lee s
greatest victory of the Civil War. General Lee expertly demonstrated mission command by leading his
troops into an unlikely battle, understanding the battle, visualizing, and directing his troops in a
victory for the Confederacy. General Robert E. Lee is considered by many to be an iconic American
figure, a symbol of the South, and one of the greatest Generals in American history. Lee was a highly

Riches debauched one class with idleness of mind and body, while poverty sapped the vitality of the
masses by overwork, bad food, and pestilent homes (165). The wealthy in the ninetieth century did not
really care too much for physical education, and the poor would just work and work just to make a
living, so their health would decline or get worse. In the novel West was really fascinated on how
healthy the twentieth century was. The labor which is required of all is limited to the period of greatest
bodily vigor, and is never excessive: care for one s self and one s family, anxiety as to livelihood, the

The World Of Convection, Conduction, And Radiation
The World of Convection, Conduction, and Radiation In our physical world, there are a multitude of
phenomenon that occur daily that we experience that often go unnoticed. It contains a vast array of
conceptual applications and the equations applied to them in order to better explain and calculate the
phenomenon involved. In a normal occurrence an individual can explain and calculate certain aspects
of movement and processes that are also involved with it. When dealing with the transferring of heat
and various process related to heat, the terms convection, conduction and radiation are frequently
discussed thoroughly. The overall field of thermodynamics involves the study of thermal processes in
physical systems. Some terms involved with these particular concepts include: closed system,
empirical law, free energy, joule s law, specific, temperature, and thermodynamics. The general
defined term of convection is the heat transfer by mass motion of a fluid such as air or water when the
heated fluid is caused to move away from the source of heat, carrying energy with it (Georgia State
University). In the world of physics, the term conduction is usually defined as a form of heat transfer
by the way of molecular tension inside an object or material that does not show any individual motion
in its entirety (Georgia State University). Radiation by means of physics related terms is defined as the
emission or transmission of energy in the form of waves or particles through a

Basic Ethical Principles in Epidemiology
Basic Ethical Principles
The three basic ethical principles generally accepted principles in the U.S. cultural tradition include
the principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The principles of respect for persons
ensure that human subjects treated as autonomous agents and persons with diminished autonomy are
provided protection (CDC, n.a.). The protection relates to when human subjects may lack coherence
under certain medications, sickness, or physical conditions in which the researcher acts on good faith
to choose considerable judgments on the human subjects behalf. Human subjects obtain the right to be
fully informed of the activities he or she must participate prior to beginning the experimentations.
The beneficence, also considered obligation, ensures that human subjects obtain awareness of
potential exposures to risks and the researchers must provide maximization of benefits and reduction
of risks during the course of the research investigation (CDC, n.a.). The third basic ethical principle,
justice, involves equality of intentions, merits, and morality when distributing burdens and benefits.
The formulation includes equal shares between each person, assessing individual needs, assessing
individual efforts, each person s societal contribution, and each person s merit (CDC, n.a.).
Applications
Applications of general principles for conduct of research conclude informed consent, risk benefit
assessment, and the selection of subjects of research.

How Does Cholesterol Affects Your Body
Cholesterol affects everyone at some point in time. Cholesterol is a lipid, a soft, fat like substance that
in a reasonable amount is crucial in maintaining good health. The liver produces a fat like a particle

needs Cholesterol to make Vitamin, hormones, and bile. A buildup of cholesterol in the walls causes
plaque formation damaging and hardening the wall of the arteries. The hardened plaque narrow the

Sects Vs Cults
There are different types of groups that you can branch off of your religion, there are sects and cults. A
sect is a group of people with some different religious beliefs from the group larger to where they
actually belong, like a Church. A Cult is usually a small group of people who have religious beliefs
and practices observed by others as bizarre. A cult is founded by a powerful leader also known as a
charismatic. Sects have a high degree of pressure with the surrounding society unlike churches.
Sect determines from the Latin word secta which is characterized as school of thought . It too comes
from the English dialect from the Old French secte which is alluded to as a particular framework of
convictions. While a cult is a completely different interpretation. Cult comes from a Latin word cultus
which implies labor, adore, veneration, or culture . It too entered the English dialect through the
French word culte which is characterized as specific form of worship . At that point later on in the
English dialect it came to mean devotion to an individual or thing . ... Show more content on

Neuroscience Of The Nervous System
Vigen Karchyan
Neuroscience Neuroscience, commonly referred to as Neural Science, is the study of the way the
nervous system develops, how it is structured and the functions of it. Scientists put emphasis on the
brain and the impact it has on behavior and cognitive functions. These scientists approach a closer
look on the reactions the nervous system has when humans have neurological, psychiatric and
neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire concept of neuroscience is addressed as a subdivision of
biology. It is applied to chemistry, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, linguistics and more.
Scientists say that neuroscience is identical as neurobiology but there is a difference between the two
conceptions. Neurobiology focuses mainly on the biology of the nervous system and neuroscience
emphasizes on any portion of the nervous system. Neuroscientists have various fields of study that
include cellular, functional, computational and medical aspects of the nervous system. The history of
neuroscience dates back and the Ancient Egyptians believed that intelligence rooted from the heart.
Throughout the process of mummification, they detached the brain but left the heart inside of the
body. Herodotus, a Greek historian that lived up until 425BC, claimed the most perfect practice is to
extract as much of the brain as possible with an iron hook, and what the hook cannot reach is mixed
with drugs. There were scripts focused on the brain that were first found in 1700BC in

Creating Robots for a Universal Purpos
There are over 8.6 million robots in the world that have been created for a universal purpose. That
purpose is to improve human life. They do this in many different ways like for example; Robots are
used in the Auto Industry to help build automobiles on assembly lines. It takes around twenty four
hours on average to build a new automobile in a factory with the help of these robots. Without the
machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days to a week
to build one automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it harder to
purchase automobiles. Robots help improve many more functions in everyday life. The purpose of this
project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the robots should be used more often.
The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor of
the robot was mathematician Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The robot
actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters before it ran out of steam and landed on the
ground. The robot was not very helpful. But it at the time was a great sign of what was to come in the
future. The latest robots to be created are unrecognizable compared to this very first model.
Robots are used every day in countries across the world in assembly lines. An assembly line is a series
of workers and machines in a factory by which a succession of identical items is progressively

This time I was sure that I had gotten them to change their minds. I actually thought that this would be

that I had messed up on. I sat there looking down at the drawing, when I noticed that it looked like it

Word Choice In Elie Wiesel s Night
In the story Night the author Elie Wiesel uses word choice to show the reader all the despair that he

because it develops the the reader s understanding the character s internal conflict after what he s

Argumentative Essay On Animal Testing
Animal testing has been known for the life changing breakthroughs but also for the alarming number
of deaths throughout the years. Many years have gone by since the first experiment on an animal but
when is the world going to realize that animals and humans are not the same.
Animal testing has been used in history for many years. It was traced all the way back to the early
Greece, also the first person realized the differences (more specific internal differences) between
animals and humans was Aristotle. Although animal testing was in the processed it wasn t really
known or popular until the nineteenth century. During 1865, a French physiologist named Claude
Bernard was called the father of experimental science. Bernard published a book called An
Introduction to the study of Experimental Medicine basically stated that the with the experiments on
animals it is a very good thing to keep them in harmful circumstances and deleterious substances
because it was good for man. With that being said some scientist simply did not give a care in the
world for the animals.
Animals are being tested on so that the humans will be safe but there have been situations that did not
work out so well for mankind. Thousands of infants deaths came about all because of animal testing

otherwise have been . His demanding efforts to make money goes unnoticed by Ann. His status as her
husband is similarly unappreciated. A change of mind enters Ann s head when Steven enters the
farmhouse. Ann begins comparing the two men, Steven as erect, tall, square shouldered (6) while John
is thicket, heavy jowled and stooped (6). Steven seduces Ann, which leads to the pair sleeping
together. By cheating on her husband, Ann s behaviour is not only disloyal, but ungracious also.
Steven is also unappreciative of his friendship with John, as betrayed him and slept with his wife.
Although John commits himself to pleasing Ann, she is not too content. Since Ann does not notice o
respect John s attempts to gladden her, he is an unappreciated character who should be treated with far
greater amount of respect and admiration from fellow characters. Throughout the short story, The
Painted Door by Sinclair Ross, John is established as an admirable character. His hardworking and
compassionate behaviour emphasizes his admirable personality. Overall, John is a diligent,

Essay On Everglades
Extraordinary wildlife, beautiful creatures, and lively plants are home to a famous region in Southern
Florida known as the Everglades. The Everglades creates a livable environment that is sustainable to
multiple species and living beings. Florida s Everglades is a valuable and productive ecosystem that
fulfills the essential functions for both humans and wildlife. The different species of biodiversity in
Florida s valued Everglades strengthen the ecosystem. Having many different kinds of organisms
ensures lots of options for hungry animals, from hawks to insects. This provides a healthy ecosystem
that consists of those species working together in harmony; however, destructive behaviors can create
an imbalance in it. Invasive animals like pythons and anacondas cripple the Everglades population of
possums, rabbits, and foxes, along with interfering plants that grow so thickly that they block water

Essay On Nationalism And Nationalism
Nationalism could be a type of religion in some cases. Nationalism could be a kind of religion
promoted by the state in order to help supplement obedience and conformity to the wishes of the state.
Like all religions, nationalism tries to answer the problems of life, for instance, who the person is,
from where do they come from, what is the person s legacy and etc. All these questions could
sometimes be answered through nationalism and that s why some people could be extremely
nationalistic. Just like every false idea of reality, it could be dangerous. Although religion is not the
thing that truly successfully binds people in a geographic space as well as nationalism does,
nationalism could still act as a sort of religion.
More recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In some way religious nationalists often occur to their religion traditionally and follow specific ways
that their ancestors believed in because religious people would only refer to their religion s text but
religious nationalists would refer to ancestors. Religion and nationalism could sometimes be separated
by the idea of politicizing religion or having the influence on religion to politics. For example in Saudi
Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies and they make laws according to
the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized with nationality is because it gives a sense
of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of people and that kind of shows how its similar to
nationalism. The idea of religion supports the persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a
group of people, language and culture also that s how nationalism and religion are similar.
Whatever the case may be, the modern religion and nationalism, nationalism would win over religion
because everyone sort of follows tradition more than religion these days and tradition could lead to a
specific belief and build up a national group. So modern people would put nationalism before their
religion. An example for this is the Islamic extremist group ISIS on how they turned religion into
nationalism but follow nationalistic belief and act as one more than they would follow the actual

Economic, Technological, and Social Aspects of Ocean Acidification
Natasha Pirani
November 29, 2014
ENVP 500 Developing a Sustainability Perspective
Dr. Liza Ireland
Ocean acidification is the decrease in the acidity levels of the Earth s oceans, caused by the intake of
carbon dioxide emitted in to the environment and atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution, fossil
fuel powered machines have increased human technology and advancement. However, this has caused
the emissions, large amounts of carbon dioxide, deforestation, and other greenhouse gases into the
atmosphere. Ocean acidification, in turn, has created a benefit to us by slowing down climate change
by absorbing the emissions in the water that have remained in the air. However, studies are now
starting to show that the massive amounts of carbon dioxide in the water bodies are altering the water
chemistry and affecting the biodiversity and life cycles of many marine organisms, especially those at
the lower end of the food chain. Other organisms living off the food chain would be part of a
symbiotic relationship involving nutrient cycling: where all other organisms are feeding off of the
larger one, yet are providing some benefit to the overall host.
Washington State is sensitive to the impacts of ocean acidification because of its location and
oceanography. Some regional factors include, upwelling, hypoxia, nitrogen oxides /sulfur oxides, and
watershed inputs of nutrients, (Blue Ribbon Panel,

Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary
Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the
Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize that
bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For years,
bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders embodied
the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people started changing
their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like their idols. At the
beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture of machoism is back
and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often called gym rats just because
they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on sculpting their bodies. The author
mentions many actors who went through rigorous training programs to increase their muscular mass
for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to
get a part in the movie Conan the
Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now globally
famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered radical
transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1
All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role that
they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become physically fit for
the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to defend the people.
Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a unique character, and often
that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are multiple examples of super

Sex Determination By Amplification Of Amelogenin Gene From...
Sex determination by amplification of Amelogenin gene from dental pulp tissue by PCR
Abstract
Introduction: Forensic odontology necessarily involves the application of dentistry along with various
other branches of sciences to resolve criminal cases with legal issues. Sex determination is a part of
forensic odontology and an en essential priority when traditional identification of the deceased
becomes impossible due to certain mishaps, including natural calamities, acts of war and terrorism or
criminal cases of homicide and mutilation of bodies.
Aim: To determine Sex by analysis of the Amelogenin gene using PCR method on DNA isolated from
dental pulp, which was exposed to various environmental conditions created artificially to mimic a
forensic scenario.
Materials and Method: This in vitro study was conducted by subjecting extracted teeth to various
conditions imitating a forensic scene, viz. desiccation at room temperatures, immersion in salt water,
burial in soil and even exposing to temperatures of 150 ÂșC, 250 ÂșC, 350 ÂșC. DNA was extracted from
dental pulp tissue and sex determination was achieved by amplification of the amelogenin gene
through AMEL gene based primers in PCR.
Result: Among all the samples used in this study, DNA could be extracted from all, except from those
that were subjected to a temperature of 350 ÂșC. DNA amplification and sex determination of the
samples were found to be accurate when compared to known data.
Conclusion: This study shows teeth to be

Plate Tectonics And Ocean Currents Influence Climate Change
How do Plate Tectonics and Ocean Currents Influence Climate Change?
Two of the earth s biggest structures are our oceans and continents, which sit on tectonic plates. The
interactions between tectonic plates and oceans are one big influence that can determine the earth s
climate and as a result of that can contribute to climate change.
The arrangements of the continents have a strong effect on the earth s climate. Where a continent is on
the earth can determine regional climates, such as if a location is arid, cold etc. When plates move,
they can also convert locations from one climate to another.
Movement of tectonic plates can generate many different climatic events, that can either increase or
decrease global temperatures. 1
One of the biggest tectonic events that has an effect on the earth climate is volcanic activity. As Stoker
(2007)1 states:
There is no doubt that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ocean currents are continuous movements of seawater that can transport cool or warm water, as well
as Carbon Dioxide. When tectonic plates move they can open and close oceanic gateways that link to
major ocean basins, controlling the global circulation of ocean currents, which can cause a shift in the
transportation of heat and salt from the equator to polar regions.
Transportation of warm water is balanced by cold water that sinks at high latitudes and moves the
currents back toward the equator. This process (Thermohaline Flow) helps to regulate global heat. Any
change in the Thermohaline Flow due to tectonic activity of any sort can affect the distribution of
precipitation, ice, temperature and vegetation on earth. 3
The ocean is crucial to heating the planet, as the majority of the sun s radiation is absorbed by the
ocean. The oceans currents help distribute that heat.

Certified Nursing Assistant Test Essay
This should be super easy. When the time came around to take my Certified Nursing Assistant test, I
thought I practically already got my certificate. The CNA test includes a written portion and a clinical
skills test. In order to get the certificate, you must pass both parts. For the clinical skills test, you
perform two skills that are assigned to you for the patient , which is usually a volunteer, in front of a
skills evaluator. My teachers had made sure that we all practiced the skills being tested as well as take
practice tests for the written portion of the CNA test. Each time I had done great. So yes, my head got
a little big and I patted myself on the back, whispering I got this. every time another student would
come in nervous from their test. But boy did life have a lesson in store for me. I walked into the room,
confidence a little too high and performed my skills in front of the skills evaluator. Walking out, I
thought I passed. I told my teachers, my friends, I even texted my mother, ... Show more content on

After crying and binge watching Grey s Anatomy I told myself that nothing would be done if I just let
myself drown in my self pity. I mean, Cristina Yang would never just give up. So I sent the form to

and breathed clinical skills. The day before my test, I decided to really test how much I had learned
from studying and stayed after school with my teachers. From them, I learned some tips and got some
constructive criticism. But the best thing I was told was not to doubt myself. I thought she was just
crazy. Lady, did you not see when I first took this test? Not doubting myself doesn t work out too well
for me. The day of the test, I was nervous throughout the drive to the Red Cross

Samsung set aside around US$ 126 million for its design initiatives till 2000. After that Samsung sent
17 designers to the Art Center College of Design to broaden their ideas about design. Its determination
to excel in design inspired the government of South Korea to announce the beginning of a Design Era
in the country, in an effort to encourage businesses to recognize the importance of design and use it as
a competitive advantage. Design plays a significant role to add big value to the Samsung. Earlier most
electronics products were expensive and not within the reach of everyone. Also purchase decisions
were based on price, features, and quality, over time, products like TVs, cameras mobile became
cheap price and within the reach of a people. Quality was no longer a differentiator, and most brands
offered similar products of pricing and features. Most of consumer electronics companies were those
accepted the importance of design, example Sony assume design is the only thing that differentiates
one product from the other in the marketplace because most of products of our competitors will have
same price, performance and features. Good design allowed Samsung to command a price premium,
For example, its mobile phones had the highest average unit sale price (US$ 215) in 2002 in their
category. It was believed that the company was able to achieve the goal because its mobile phones
featured a combination of technology and good design. It s trying to connect with its customers by
introducing products with appealing designs. In 2006 Q1 Q2, Samsung was the number one company
in terms of worldwide TV sales. Samsung chairman transform his company from Electronics

Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart
In Edgar Allen Poe s story, The Tell Tale Heart, the author uses symbolism, point of view, and imagery
as a method of building suspense throughout the story, setting a strong foundation of strangeness, and
translating the unreliability of the narrator.
Symbolism in The Tell Tale Heart is used throughout the story to set a foundation of strangeness. Poe
was very adept at using symbolism and this story is rife with it. An example that stands out is when
our narrator likens the old man s eye to that of a vulture (Poe 37). The narrator uses this vulture eye as
reasoning to murder the old man (Poe 37). The narrator remains fixated on the one eye and uses our
next symbol, the lantern, as a weapon against it. The lantern, while used as simply as a light, is the
first method of combat against the old man s eye. The narrator would shine a thin ray of light upon the
vulture eye , always finding it closed against his attack (Poe 37). The night that the light shines true on
the eye, we are introduced to another symbol; the bed. The bed was a place of safety for the old man.
He stayed there when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
By using first person point of view in The Tell Tale Heart, the author highlights how unreliable the
narrator is. The narrator says You fancy me mad. Madmen known nothing. You should have seen me
in an attempt to sway the reader into believing his reality (Poe 37). He says this after telling the reader
that he had decided to murder the old man because of his eye. The narrator further proves his
unreliability by admitting he has a disease. He immediately discounts the importance of this by saying,
The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them (Poe 37). Later in the story, after
having murdered the old man, the police arrive. He refers to them as the gentlemen and invites them
into the home. He does this because in his reality, he did no wrong. He goes so far as to say, what had
I to fear? (Poe

The Nike s Unlimited ad campaign uses a narrator to show 3 different people doing something
exceptional. It features people who do not believe in limits. For the first ad, it shows Kyle Manyard, a

matter what your obstacles are, if you try your best you will succeed. The society we live in

Jimi Hendrix is considered a key influence in music of the 20th century. The American rock

Hendrix is also acknowledged today as an intellectual with marvelous musical abilities. He is
renowned for his speed, ambition, and precision while playing, ability to apply intricate melodic

Hendrix s ability to perform guitar solos categorized by perplexing whammy bar use gave The Star
Spangled Banner a sense of distortion of both time and direction. The most controversial nature of his
style is characterized by the shrill and lurid sounds he manufactured from his guitar as they were
complemented by the sounds of gunfire, screams, and bombs (Owen). However, his intentions were
morally just and noble by simply playing a patriotic song for the soldiers risking their lives for the
American people in Vietnam. He incorporates his artistic side as a musician by including sounds of
war, barrage of gunfire, and bombs that American soldier face with the use of the whammy bar. From
the beginning, Hendrix s basics of playing were completely different from everyone else; he did not
play with the C Major Chord like many guitarists would, instead he did it outside the box (Jones).
Hendix also used the wah wah pedal regularly, a feature that made him distinctive from all other
musicians and guitar players (Leonard). This unique style that Hendrix introduced skyrocketed in
popularity and revolutionized the rock genre we have

  • 2. Beowulf Characteristics Beowulf, the main character of this short story, is considered a hero during this time period. He was the only man who was strong enough to kill all the bad monsters, stopping them from murdering the people, and driving them out of their town for good. The unstoppable monsters that have been killing for years, Beowulf stopped, which was no small deal. For that, everyone respected and admired him because of his strength and hero like actions. Beowulf is a hero and everything he does in the story supports it. Beowulf s personality portrays large amounts of persistence. He knew he was abnormal in his ability to fight. So he went out, traveled across the sea, and fought the big, bad monster that had been terrorizing hundreds of people throughout the dark of each and every night. In his far off home Beowulf, Higlac s Follower and the strongest of the Geats greater and stronger than anyone anywhere in this world heard how Grendel filled the nights with horror and quickly commanded a boat fitted out, proclaiming that he d go to that famous king, would sail across the sea to Hrothgar, now when help was needed. (Beowulf 36) Although he most probably had doubts and fears towards defeating Grendel, the monster, he still went out and took a chance to save many lives, for the greater good. Again, showing his heroic tendencies and the need to risk his life for others. My hands alone shall fight for me, struggle for life against the monster. G d must decide who will be given to ... • 3. A Research Project On The Data Collection Process Manatowa Research Project Report Identify and describe key lessons learned in your data collection process The first potential participant I spoke with on the phone asked me a question, can any staff member volunteer to participate or do they have to be a licensed social worker ? A very valid question and something I had not anticipated. I did not know how to answer her at first. That fact was not part of my research design. As explained by the University of Oxford Personnel Service UAS (2015) among the standards in research is the practice code of being honest in proposing, conducting and reporting research. Academic research often has class timeline parameters which puts a strain on the academic researcher. The integrity of the researcher in academic research class may be tested by shortcomings as the result of faults in the design phase. The academic research must choose to do the right thing and act in an ethical manner when situations arise such as in the recruitment of participants and modifications during the data collection phase. Research design can eliminate potential pitfalls and challenges during research data collection and interpretation of that data. Spending more time and effort in the design phase will help to eliminate and/or reduce such ethical situations. Crotty (1998) suggested: 1. What epistemology, theory of knowledge, embedded in the theoretical perspective, informs the research (e.g., objectivism, subjectivism, etc.)? 2. What ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

For example, a cup on a table, this is potential energy. It is not moving and it is completely still on the table. When you re driving in your car you are using kinetic energy. In this experience we are using potential, kinetic, and gravitational potential energy. We are using these forms of energy, math, and science to test how fast an object will roll down a ramp. Kinetic energy is energy due to motion in which case all moving objects have kinetic energy. For example, a boulder rolling down a mountain has kinetic energy. All moving objects have kinetic energy. In this experiment, we will use kinetic energy when we are rolling the object down the ramp. This is kinetic energy because it is The object will be moving. Potential energy is stored ... After you roll the object down the ramp, record what you have found about the experiment. Doing this experiment, I have found 10 different times it takes our object to roll down a ramp of two math books and one science book. • 5. Cite Source Analysis How do I cite sources? This depends on what type of work you are writing, how you are using the borrowed material, and the expectations of your instructor. First, you have to think about how you want to identify your sources. If your sources are very important to your ideas, you should mention the author and work in a sentence that introduces your citation. If, however, you are only citing the source to make a minor point, you may consider using parenthetical references, footnotes, or endnotes. There are also different forms of citation for different disciplines. For example, when you cite sources in a psychology paper you would probably use a different form of citation than you might in a paper for an English class. Finally, you should ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If the source is central to your work, you may want to introduce it in a separate sentence or two, summarizing its importance and main ideas. But often you can just tag this information onto the beginning or end of a sentence. For example, the following sentence puts information about the author and work before the quotation: Milan Kundera, in his book The Art of the Novel, suggests that if the novel should really disappear, it will do so not because it has exhausted its powers but because it exists in a world grown alien to it. You may also want to describe the author(s) if they are not famous, or if you have reason to believe your reader does not know them. You should say whether they are economic analysts, artists, physicists, etc. If you do not know anything about the author, and cannot find any information, it is best to say where you found the source and why you believe it is credible and worth citing. Originally, as Yurgelum Todd et al (2009) has noted, derived from the opium poppy, heroin has been used as an alternative to morphine in dealing with addiction (Yurgelum Todd, p. 175, 2009). Each participant underwent a medical and drug use history check; signed a written consent form; produced blood and urine samples; and performed routine laboratory physical examinations (Greenwald, p. 54, 2009). • 7. Crisis Of Faith In King Lear Essay The beliefs of people are often influenced by the environment they live in. Sometimes, an individual is forced to act out of necessity and not on principles. In the play, King Lear, Shakespeare gives a clear illustration on how the hidden human intentions are bound to be exposed at the right time. The ever changing world has seen the beliefs and nature of man change alongside it. In the long run, a person may not be sure of what to believe in anymore. The essay will look at how King Lear and Edmund suffer from crisis of faith as well as demonstrate how time and experience changes the beliefs of man, and how even the most trusted people can lead to one s downfall. Immediately the youngest daughter is sent away, the two remaining daughters begin to plot for the downfall of their father. They are actually scheming to kill him. Goneril says Not to be overruled. • 8. Anne Frank Reflection The Holocaust was a horrific event in human history that took place in the early 1930s through the mid 1940s. This was when millions of Jews and other people who were thought to be a race and were sent to concentration camps by those who refer to as evil people. Although many people thought this, one girl, Anne Frank, who was a Jewish girl in hiding, said this: In spite of everything, I still believe people are really good at heart. Regarding all of the hate and struggles Anne and her family faced, she still saw good in everyone and everything that happened. After reading the play based on Anne s real diary she kept while in hiding, I have to agree with her famous quote. One of the main reasons I agree with Anne is because of the empathy Mr. Frank showed for her daughter when times were scary. Now, I do understand that all arguments have two sides and that there are some who don t agree with me, according to Mr. Van Daan s selfishness and greed. Now, I m sure some of you are saying that there are more acts of kindness throughout the play, and I agree with you, but what convinced me to side with Anne and her thought is when her father, Mr. Frank, attended to her needs after a nightmare she had. On page 64, the following dialogue takes place: Mr. Frank: I want you to take this pill. Anne: What is it? Mr. Frank: Something to quiet you. ... Do you want me to read to you for a while? During this scene, the Van Daan s, the Frank s and Mr. Dussel had gone to bed for the night. Everyone was sleeping peacefully until Anne started screaming from a terrible nightmare. She accidentally woke everyone else up with her screaming, and her father decided to take care of Anne and let everyone else go back to sleep. Unlike Mr. Van Daan, Mr. Frank, or Anne s father, showed that he has empathy for his daughter and would do anything to make sure that she was okay. And by asking if she wanted him to read to her really showed that he really cared about her. His act not only shows empathy for Anne, but that he s there for her when she needs him and that he doesn t just care about himself, but about others. And by doing so, Mr. Frank stayed with her until she fell asleep. He was doing what any father should do. Now, just because I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The civilization borrows from Japan, China, Athens, and Rome, and is a syncretic blend of language, art, architecture, writing, religion, and government of the aforementioned civilizations with a unique social structure. The location of the Land of Fish is found in southern coastal China. The location helps sustain the civilization as the people are able to benefit from food and resources from the sea. The coastal region allows the civilization to trade with sea based materials and seafood. The civilization faces the East China Sea, and is also located near the Yellow River and the Yangtze River, with both rivers used as a water and food source. Though the Land of Fish does have farms on the outskirts, the economy is largely based off the sea. The ports of the civilization are widely accessible to other civilizations, bringing in trade and new goods. In the civilization, the main marketplace is in the center of the Land of Fish, the central location allowing accessibility for anybody. Some marketplaces are also found scattered throughout the part of the civilization where the middle class and merchants are located, near the coast. • 10. Gimpel the Fool There are a variety of different conclusions that one can reach in interpreting the story of Gimpel the Fool. The story draws its roots from the deep Yiddish background of the author, Isaac Bashevis Singer, and it deals with the traditional ―fool‖ archetype dealt with so often in the culture. The very archetype is plagued with irony, as the fool is typically seen as coming out on top of all of the others in the story, making them seem as the fool rather than the ―fool‖ himself. Gimpel the Fool follows the archetype well. In some instances, the idea of this particular archetype can be frustrating, as the typical reader may want the main character to get the revenge he deserves. • 11. Parking Spaces At The New Livermore Bart Station Parking Statistics Introduction A parking structure is being built for the new Livermore BART station. The Livermore Department of Transportation would like to provide as many parking spaces as possible in the parking structure. This study will determine an ideal parking space size in order to maximize the amount of available spaces while still accommodating an appropriate range of car sizes. Methods We located a sample pool of automobiles that accurately reflected the socio economic demographic of the Livermore area to determine the type of cars owned in the community. From this sample we determined the range in car sizes that would be parking in the new parking structure. We measured a sample of the automobile s lengths and widths to determine the mean and deviation of the vehicles the new parking structure would need to accommodate. We determined the seven parking lots of Las Positas College was an accurate and large enough representation of the demographic that would be utilizing the Livermore BART station parking structure. Different student demographics use different parking lots on campus. The trucks and bigger vehicles driven by the firefighting students, veterans and welding students parked in the lots closer to their buildings. For this reason, we found it necessary to take sample measurements from all seven parking lots at the Las Positas College campus so that we would have an accurate sample of the lifestyles reflected by car sizes that would be using the ... Wedian Ibrahim May 13, 2012 The Negative Impact of Conglomeration of Media Companies on Audiences The word conglomeration is defined as the formation of a large company by the merging of separate and diverse small firms. Media conglomerate is a large company or corporation formed by merging of different small media outlets such as TV, radio, newspapers, and internet. Big companies tend to buy out other smaller companies in the market to increase their revenue by increasing their viewership, and to control the smaller companies resources. • 16. Rhetorical Analysis Of Defending Free Speech On College... Free speech on college campuses has been a widely debated topic in recent years. Because of this, the opinions held on this subject vary. In the editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses , the Editorial Board of the Chicago Tribune defends the idea of education and free speech. The Editorial Board states that students today are not receiving as useful of an education because of the barriers put on free speech. In addition, they argue that in not allowing students to feel uncomfortable, they are not receiving a true education. [A little more summary here would be helpful how does the author support these claims?] The editorial, Defending Free Speech on College Campuses, introduces a valid logical argument on education through describing instances in which students experience uncomfortable learning situations, and the ways in which they were handled. [Hannah, your reasons here are about content, not about rhetoric what rhetorical reasons is the argument strong?] The true substance of this editorial comes from the authors use of logical appeals and its relatability to students. There are four figures in this piece: two guests, a cashier, and a waitress. The two guests, a man and a woman, are sitting at one of the tables and seem to be having a conversation. The cashier stands nearby the cash register, possibly counting the amount of money in it. The waitress is arranging the display of fruit, which is presumably at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant contains wall mirrors, polished woodwork and checkerboard blue and white tiles on the floor. The artist, Edward Hopper, and his wife, Jo, had given each figure a name while this piece was painting. The couple is Max Scherer and his wife, Sadie, the cashier is Anne Popebogales and the waitress is Olga. By personal observation, this piece contains bright and vibrant colors. It also seems to portray a scene that can be identified in modern, everyday life, as opposed to an art piece based on religious scenes from the Bible or Greek or Roman mythology. This painting is meant to portray the changing roles of women after the First World War, which can be evident in the fact that the two people working in this restaurant are both women. The painting was created by American artist, Edward Hopper. Hopper is possibly best known for his painting, Nighthawks. Tables for Ladies contrasts this piece with its well light setting and warm, vibrant colors. Nighthawks also features a restaurant as its setting, however, this piece is set at night. ... • 19. The Battle Of Chancellorsville, Virginia The battle of Chancellorsville, Virginia was fought from April 30 through May 6, 1863. It was fought between the Confederate Army of Northern Virginia commanded by General Robert E. Lee, and the Federal Army of the Potomac commanded by Major General Joseph Hooker. The intent of this battle was for Major General Hooker s Union force to cross the Rappahannock River west of Chancellorsville in order to gain control of the Virginia Central and Fredericksburg rail lines; these rail lines were essential to the Army of Northern Virginia because they were the main supply lines to Richmond, the capitol of the Confederate states. The Union knew that by gaining the supply line to Richmond and defeating General Lee, was crucial because this would cause the Confederate strategic center of gravity to fall, essentially leading to an end of the Civil War. However, the Army of the Potomac lost the battle of Chancellorsville against General Lee s Army of Northern Virginia, and the Civil War raged on. The battle of Chancellorsville is generally viewed as General Robert E. Lee s greatest victory of the Civil War. General Lee expertly demonstrated mission command by leading his troops into an unlikely battle, understanding the battle, visualizing, and directing his troops in a victory for the Confederacy. General Robert E. Lee is considered by many to be an iconic American figure, a symbol of the South, and one of the greatest Generals in American history. Lee was a highly regarded Colonel ... The World Of Convection, Conduction, And Radiation The World of Convection, Conduction, and Radiation In our physical world, there are a multitude of phenomenon that occur daily that we experience that often go unnoticed. It contains a vast array of conceptual applications and the equations applied to them in order to better explain and calculate the phenomenon involved. In a normal occurrence an individual can explain and calculate certain aspects of movement and processes that are also involved with it. When dealing with the transferring of heat and various process related to heat, the terms convection, conduction and radiation are frequently discussed thoroughly. The overall field of thermodynamics involves the study of thermal processes in physical systems. Some terms involved with these particular concepts include: closed system, empirical law, free energy, joule s law, specific, temperature, and thermodynamics. The general defined term of convection is the heat transfer by mass motion of a fluid such as air or water when the heated fluid is caused to move away from the source of heat, carrying energy with it (Georgia State University). In the world of physics, the term conduction is usually defined as a form of heat transfer by the way of molecular tension inside an object or material that does not show any individual motion in its entirety (Georgia State University). Basic Ethical Principles in Epidemiology Basic Ethical Principles The three basic ethical principles generally accepted principles in the U.S. cultural tradition include the principles of respect for persons, beneficence, and justice. The principles of respect for persons ensure that human subjects treated as autonomous agents and persons with diminished autonomy are provided protection (CDC, n.a.). The protection relates to when human subjects may lack coherence under certain medications, sickness, or physical conditions in which the researcher acts on good faith to choose considerable judgments on the human subjects behalf. Human subjects obtain the right to be fully informed of the activities he or she must participate prior to beginning the experimentations. The beneficence, also considered obligation, ensures that human subjects obtain awareness of potential exposures to risks and the researchers must provide maximization of benefits and reduction of risks during the course of the research investigation (CDC, n.a.). The third basic ethical principle, justice, involves equality of intentions, merits, and morality when distributing burdens and benefits. The formulation includes equal shares between each person, assessing individual needs, assessing individual efforts, each person s societal contribution, and each person s merit (CDC, n.a.). Applications Applications of general principles for conduct of research conclude informed consent, risk benefit assessment, and the selection of subjects of research. ... Neuroscience Of The Nervous System Vigen Karchyan Neuroscience Neuroscience, commonly referred to as Neural Science, is the study of the way the nervous system develops, how it is structured and the functions of it. Scientists put emphasis on the brain and the impact it has on behavior and cognitive functions. These scientists approach a closer look on the reactions the nervous system has when humans have neurological, psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders. The entire concept of neuroscience is addressed as a subdivision of biology. It is applied to chemistry, cognitive science, engineering, mathematics, linguistics and more. Scientists say that neuroscience is identical as neurobiology but there is a difference between the two conceptions. Neurobiology focuses mainly on the biology of the nervous system and neuroscience emphasizes on any portion of the nervous system. Neuroscientists have various fields of study that include cellular, functional, computational and medical aspects of the nervous system. The history of neuroscience dates back and the Ancient Egyptians believed that intelligence rooted from the heart. They do this in many different ways like for example; Robots are used in the Auto Industry to help build automobiles on assembly lines. It takes around twenty four hours on average to build a new automobile in a factory with the help of these robots. Without the machinery that is being used on these assembly lines it could take anywhere from three days to a week to build one automobile. That would also affect the price of said automobile and make it harder to purchase automobiles. Robots help improve many more functions in everyday life. The purpose of this project is to prove that robots improve upon human life and that the robots should be used more often. The first robot was hand built in between four hundred and three hundred fifty B.C. The inventor of the robot was mathematician Archytas. The robot functioned as a steam powered pigeon. The robot actually worked and at one point flew two hundred meters before it ran out of steam and landed on the ground. The robot was not very helpful. But it at the time was a great sign of what was to come in the future. The latest robots to be created are unrecognizable compared to this very first model. Nationalism could be a kind of religion promoted by the state in order to help supplement obedience and conformity to the wishes of the state. Like all religions, nationalism tries to answer the problems of life, for instance, who the person is, from where do they come from, what is the person s legacy and etc. All these questions could sometimes be answered through nationalism and that s why some people could be extremely nationalistic. Just like every false idea of reality, it could be dangerous. Although religion is not the thing that truly successfully binds people in a geographic space as well as nationalism does, nationalism could still act as a sort of religion. More recently, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In some way religious nationalists often occur to their religion traditionally and follow specific ways that their ancestors believed in because religious people would only refer to their religion s text but religious nationalists would refer to ancestors. Religion and nationalism could sometimes be separated by the idea of politicizing religion or having the influence on religion to politics. For example in Saudi Arabia they have the effect of religion on their political ideologies and they make laws according to the Islam. The most reason why religion can be similarized with nationality is because it gives a sense of national unity and it s a belief shared by a group of people and that kind of shows how its similar to nationalism. The idea of religion supports the persons national identity, shares similar ethnicity with a group of people, language and culture also that s how nationalism and religion are similar. Whatever the case may be, the modern religion and nationalism, nationalism would win over religion because everyone sort of follows tradition more than religion these days and tradition could lead to a specific belief and build up a national group. So modern people would put nationalism before their religion. An example for this is the Islamic extremist group ISIS on how they turned religion into nationalism but follow nationalistic belief and act as one more than they would follow the actual Islamic ... • 39. Economic, Technological, And Social Aspects Of Ocean... Economic, Technological, and Social Aspects of Ocean Acidification Natasha Pirani November 29, 2014 ENVP 500 Developing a Sustainability Perspective Dr. Liza Ireland Ocean acidification is the decrease in the acidity levels of the Earth s oceans, caused by the intake of carbon dioxide emitted in to the environment and atmosphere. Since the industrial revolution, fossil fuel powered machines have increased human technology and advancement. However, this has caused the emissions, large amounts of carbon dioxide, deforestation, and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Ocean acidification, in turn, has created a benefit to us by slowing down climate change by absorbing the emissions in the water that have remained in the air. However, studies are now starting to show that the massive amounts of carbon dioxide in the water bodies are altering the water chemistry and affecting the biodiversity and life cycles of many marine organisms, especially those at the lower end of the food chain. Other organisms living off the food chain would be part of a symbiotic relationship involving nutrient cycling: where all other organisms are feeding off of the larger one, yet are providing some benefit to the overall host. Washington State is sensitive to the impacts of ocean acidification because of its location and oceanography. Some regional factors include, upwelling, hypoxia, nitrogen oxides /sulfur oxides, and watershed inputs of nutrients, (Blue Ribbon Panel, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Chris Lee Invasion Of The Bodybuilders Summary Invasion of the Bodybuilders is an article where the author, Chris Lee, discusses the image of the Macho mans as an ideal for the American people. Throughout his article, he tries to emphasize that bodybuilders are regular people, yet the public sees them as people with super powers. For years, bodybuilders have been role models for Americans of all ages. Furthermore, bodybuilders embodied the image of a muscular superhero who has the strength to do anything, so people started changing their culture and lifestyle, driven by the desire to become more and more like their idols. At the beginning of the article, the author brings to the public attention that the culture of machoism is back and it s making the U.S.A. feel good again . These bodybuilders are often called gym rats just because they spend a good amount of their time in the gym, working on sculpting their bodies. The author mentions many actors who went through rigorous training programs to increase their muscular mass for some roles in movies. One of those actors is Jason Momoa, who gained about 30 pounds only to get a part in the movie Conan the Barbarian. Another star who endured months of painful training was Chris Evans, who is now globally famous for his role in Captain America. Their colleague, Ryan Reynolds also suffered radical transformation just to become the superhero in the movie Green Lantern. 1 All of these and many more actors spend hours and hours in the gym to build their body for a role that they need to fit in. But, in reality with bodybuilding they aren t just trying to become physically fit for the role; they are creating an image of a superhero that can fight anything to defend the people. Basically, with their roles, they are transforming an ordinary person into a unique character, and often that fictitious character can inspire generations. Meanwhile, there are multiple examples of super dudes that try to build their careers by selling false illusions to the people. Actors such as Vin Diesel from Fast and Furious and Chris Hemsworth from Thor ended up building too much muscle and having their biceps compared to the size of canned hams . Also, Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were both ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Materials and Method: This in vitro study was conducted by subjecting extracted teeth to various conditions imitating a forensic scene, viz. desiccation at room temperatures, immersion in salt water, burial in soil and even exposing to temperatures of 150 ÂșC, 250 ÂșC, 350 ÂșC. DNA was extracted from dental pulp tissue and sex determination was achieved by amplification of the amelogenin gene through AMEL gene based primers in PCR. Result: Among all the samples used in this study, DNA could be extracted from all, except from those that were subjected to a temperature of 350 ÂșC. DNA amplification and sex determination of the samples were found to be accurate when compared to known data. Conclusion: This study shows teeth to be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 42. Plate Tectonics And Ocean Currents Influence Climate Change How do Plate Tectonics and Ocean Currents Influence Climate Change? Two of the earth s biggest structures are our oceans and continents, which sit on tectonic plates. The interactions between tectonic plates and oceans are one big influence that can determine the earth s climate and as a result of that can contribute to climate change. The arrangements of the continents have a strong effect on the earth s climate. Where a continent is on the earth can determine regional climates, such as if a location is arid, cold etc. When plates move, they can also convert locations from one climate to another. Movement of tectonic plates can generate many different climatic events, that can either increase or decrease global temperatures. 1 One of the biggest tectonic events that has an effect on the earth climate is volcanic activity. As Stoker (2007)1 states: There is no doubt that the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ocean currents are continuous movements of seawater that can transport cool or warm water, as well as Carbon Dioxide. When tectonic plates move they can open and close oceanic gateways that link to major ocean basins, controlling the global circulation of ocean currents, which can cause a shift in the transportation of heat and salt from the equator to polar regions. Transportation of warm water is balanced by cold water that sinks at high latitudes and moves the currents back toward the equator. This process (Thermohaline Flow) helps to regulate global heat. Any change in the Thermohaline Flow due to tectonic activity of any sort can affect the distribution of precipitation, ice, temperature and vegetation on earth. 3 The ocean is crucial to heating the planet, as the majority of the sun s radiation is absorbed by the ocean. The oceans currents help distribute that heat. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Symbolism In Edgar Allen Poe s The Tell-Tale Heart In Edgar Allen Poe s story, The Tell Tale Heart, the author uses symbolism, point of view, and imagery as a method of building suspense throughout the story, setting a strong foundation of strangeness, and translating the unreliability of the narrator. Symbolism in The Tell Tale Heart is used throughout the story to set a foundation of strangeness. Poe was very adept at using symbolism and this story is rife with it. An example that stands out is when our narrator likens the old man s eye to that of a vulture (Poe 37). The narrator uses this vulture eye as reasoning to murder the old man (Poe 37). The narrator remains fixated on the one eye and uses our next symbol, the lantern, as a weapon against it. The lantern, while used as simply as a light, is the first method of combat against the old man s eye. The narrator would shine a thin ray of light upon the vulture eye , always finding it closed against his attack (Poe 37). The night that the light shines true on the eye, we are introduced to another symbol; the bed. The bed was a place of safety for the old man. He stayed there when ... He says this after telling the reader that he had decided to murder the old man because of his eye. The narrator further proves his unreliability by admitting he has a disease. He immediately discounts the importance of this by saying, The disease had sharpened my senses not destroyed not dulled them (Poe 37).
