Scholarly Writing Research Paper
Articulate My Understanding of Scholarly Writing In academic writing, presenting a high standard of
communication is crucial. Both the content of expressing an idea and the formatting document are
equally important in scholarly writing. Areas that needs special attention when writing academic are
but limited to are content, organization, grammar, and style.
In content, it is imperative to reflect a higher order of thinking skills for analysis, synthesis, and
evaluation. Scholarly writing must demonstrate the skill to read and analyze the ideas of other scholars
and use them in support of arguments. Second, Scholarly writing must be balanced, objective,

It is a writers exceptional way of putting words together, creating thoughts to the reader. Making sure
that the writers voice stays consistent and identifiable. In language, writers can never underestimate or
fail to appreciate words. Ensuring once writing includes precise and correct word choices and well
crafted sentences. According to McDougall, D., Ornelles, C., Kavita, R (2015) Some writers overuse
introductory clauses, phrases, or qualifiers at the beginning of sentences...middle or at the end of
sentences . Grammar and style: for a piece of writing to be considered good let alone great, it must
follow the rules of grammar and breaking those rules only when there is a good reason. The style of

John B. Watson s Little Albert Experiment
Little Albert The Little Albert experiment is seen as very unethical now, but in 1920 helped out
psychologist. It was run by John B. Watson and one of his students, Rosalie Rayner. At the John
Hopkins University, Watson and Rayner s goal was to condition certain phobias into a perfectly
normal child. Watson was testing Pavlov s theory on humans, not dogs. They chose a nine month old
baby who they called Albert, or Little Albert. Watson tested Albert with a white rat, a white rabbit, a
monkey, a variety of mask, and burning newspaper. This was the neutral stimulus because he showed
no fear when presented with these objects. Then he was placed on a mattress with a rat. When he
would touch the rat Watson would hit a piece of steel with a hammer. This was the unconditional
stimulus. Albert would roll over and cry, now in fear of the rat. He would later be placed on the
mattress with a rat again, and would try to crawl away as fast as possible. The rat was considered a ...

He began to fear all furry objects. Any sight of a furry object, such as Rayner s fur coat, immediately
caused Albert to cry. It is said that Albert s mother was a wet nurse where Watson was testing him so
when Albert was a little over one year old he and his mother moved. Watson and Rayner were unable
to test their hypothesis on desensitizing little Albert. Still to this day it is unclear who Albert, was. In
2009, an article was published saying that the son of Arvilla Merritte, Douglas Merritte, was Albert.
This may be true, but Douglas suffered from hydrocephalus since birth, and died at six years old.
Documents from Watson s experiment say Albert was healthy. Then in 2014, two researchers claimed
that William Barger was little Albert. Barger passed away in 2007, but his niece whom he was very
close to said that when he was alive he genuinely disliked dogs. Since Watson and Rayner poorly
documented their experiment we may never know who Little Albert

Thesis On Courtroom Argumentation
This dissertation takes courtroom argumentation as a form of practical argumentation whose purpose
is to gain the assent or adherence of the audience to a claim. (Sanders 2006). Drawing on Martin s
(2008) notion of affiliation from the perspective of Systemic Functional Linguistics (hereafter SFL),
the dissertation investigates the similar ways through which public prosecutors and defense lawyers
seek for bonding in the legal field as well as how they use different experience infused values in
achieving affiliation in the discourse of courtroom argumentation. 如果研究的是控辩双方的法律身

To date, courtroom argumentation studies have become a meeting point for scholars from forensics,
linguistics, psychology and many other disciplines. Generally speaking, in line with Aristotle s
argumentation theory (2007), which emphasises on the trichotomy of logic, dialectic and rhetoric,
there are three distinguished approaches to courtroom argumentation studies: the logical, the
dialogical and the rhetorical. The logical approach sees arguments as the product of the activity of
arguing; the dialectical approach takes argumentation as a procedure consisting of strategic
movements by a proponent and an opponent; the rhetorical approach considers argumentation as a

Dr. Frederick Winslow Taylor is best known for his scientific management principles where scientific
methods are applied to management problems to increase productivity with less cost, time and effort
.He is well known as the Father of scientific management . But the term scientific management was
not invented by Taylor. The origin of the term scientific management is identified to be in a book na
med The Economy of Manufacturers written by Charles Babbage known as Father of computer , a
mathematician, mechanical engineer and inventor. But the person who popularized the term scientif
ic management and making the methods universally acceptable is Dr. Frederick Winslow Taylor.
This report discusses briefly about the Taylor s contribution to the management theory in terms of
organizational efficiencies, analyzing and measuring of work, managing the tasks between the work
ers and employees, the concept of piecework, organizational behavior, the principle aspects of
Taylor s scientific management. It provides how relevantly and efficiently Taylor s theories are utilize

the initiation of scientific management. In addition to the positive impact of his theories we also
discuss the comments on his methods by other theorists, workers and employees.

Cottonwood Research Papers
Cottonwood Trees
Native to the United States, cottonwood trees preferred habitat in the wild include moist bottomland
areas and around lakes and streams. Those wishing to add one to their landscape need to consider all
aspects of the tree before planting, as the tree has a variety of drawbacks that don t make it suitable for
many locations.
Basic Description
Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids), which is also its common name, is a fast growing deciduous
tree that obtains an additional 6 feet of growth yearly and reaches a mature height and width of 100
feet. Due to this habit of quick growth, the wood is soft and brittle, breaking easily in windy
conditions.
Bark, Stems and Foliage
The bark and trunk on a mature cottonwood tree is deeply furrowed, thick and gray and with younger
trees, the bark is a greenish gray. Young stems and branches are a yellowish green in color, changing
to a grayish color as they age. Mature trees develop an open and irregular shaped crown.
Foliage is thick and heart shaped with coarse ridges lining the edges, averaging 2 to 6 inches long.
During the growing season their color is green, changing to yellow during the fall before the foliage
drops during the winter months. The several inch long and flattened petiole allow the leaves to flap
from side to side in windy conditions.
Flowers and Seeds
Eastern cottonwood trees are dioecious, meaning there are male and female trees producing flowers,
though the female trees are the ones

Regulating the Captive Hunting Industry Essay
As the scimitar horned oryx gracefully moved through the rugged landscape, nothing seemed right.
Looking around, a high fence surrounded the facility, creating an inescapable doom for the animal that
had been bred and nurtured by humans. The hunter took careful aim and fired his weapon, instantly
killing this African antelope that is prized for its curved horns. This hunter had a clear advantage over
the antelope; he didn t need to know much about his prey or his surrounding environment. This
scenario occurs in operations across North America, primarily in Texas, called captive hunting
ranches. Texas ranch operators import, breed, and allow hunting of prized and endangered animals on
their private lands for the purpose of earning ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are over a thousand captive hunting ranches located throughout North America and nearly half
of them are found within the state of Texas. Due to struggling financial straits, Texas cattle ranchers
were provided incentive to import endangered game with the passage of the End angered Species Act
(ESA) of 1973. Some of these ranches import animals on the brink of global extinction to Texas in
order to raise, care, and repopulate these species. In some cases, these animals on the verge of
extinction can be returned to their native lands. But most ranchers are not too concerned with saving
endangered species for the sake of the animals; they are interested in this business because it is very
profitable ( Can hunting Endangered Animals save the Species? ).
Proponents of these ranches, and the ranchers themselves, see there is an economic good derived from
allowing captive animal hunts. For many cultures, hunting has been an honored tradition and was a
necessary means for food and supplies. In modern times, most people no longer have to kill animals
for subsistence; instead, it is more of a recreation (Institutionalizing harm). As a means of generating
income, these private captive ranches charge a sizeable fee for the opportunity to hunt highly prized
animals. The cost of a trophy animal can range anywhere from hundreds

Cheesecake Factory Structure
Intro
The organizational structures within a company can be the determining factor if a business can run
efficiently or run chaotically into ruin. The organizational structure is the different hierarchy s and
arrangement of authority, roles and duties in an organization. The Cheesecake factory has a very
effective organizational structure which allows for its operations to run smoothly and enables the
Cheesecake factory to be one of the highest earning restaurant chains. The structure contains three
main levels. The first and highest level is the board of directors which contains 7 members, including
the CEO David Overton and 6 directors. The next level of hierarchy called N 1 contains 7 levels
including the CFO, President, Area Operations, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is a centralized system, where decisions and recommendations come from the top down. However it
is also flexible giving any employee the freedom to reach out to an upper level director. This
succession of power lets Cheesecake Factory operate smoothly and competently. Each location
manager has to go through extensive training to be able to be in that position and is well qualified to
look over the whole restaurant. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep
their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels.
The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at
Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them
claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the
employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills
with employees. Another overarching theme was the inconsistent breaks because they are up to the
discretion of the manager. My recommendation would be to invest more in the employees and the
directors that are above the general managers to make sure that the employees are satisfied. Promote
company values more and participative leadership and more incentive for employees to go above and
beyond and focus on team building as opposed to individual competition. In one of the reports they
even said themselves that the success of the business is due to happy employees. Our future growth
and financial success will be highly dependent on our ability to attract, develop and retain qualified
staff members who are capable of successfully managing upscale, high volume casual dining
restaurants, and consistently executing our extensive and complex

How Does Stalin Deserve The Great Purges
During the 1930 s, Stalin ordered large scale purges, targeting anyone who displayed even the slightest
sign of being a threat to the government. The government was able to identify these people through
family members or close friends who informed on them. With this, people no longer expressed their
true opinions and instead conformed with the government s ideas in fear of persecution ( Purges and
Praises ). About 20 million people that were suspected of performing anti Soviet activities were
executed, sent to Gulag labor camps, or forced them to take part in a show trial, where they would be
forced plead guilty publicly to inconceivable crimes that they had never committed (Gracheva). Many
officials and military leaders were also executed after being convicted of treason. It is estimated that
one thirds of the Communist Party s three million members were put to death during the Great Purge.
However, the traces of the people that were murdered were eliminated after the government rewrote
history books and doctored photographs to exclude them. Additionally, members of the NKVD, the
Soviet secret police, were killed at the end of the Great Purges, so that the people that had known too
much about this event would be eliminated.

was no religious freedom. Churches were shut down and church leaders were arrested or executed.
The reasoning behind this was that anyone who worshipped God was a challenge to those who

Femara for fertility VS Clomid
Clomid is a popular drug in fertility clinics and works by blocking the estrogen receptors. So, the

Femara has a short lifespan in your body; it completely clears out of the system within a few days. On
the other hand, Clomid may stay in the body for some time which isn t good; it may take almost six
weeks. Therefore, it can result to unfavorable effects on a woman, for example on the cervical mucus
and the uterine lining. Remember cervical mucus is essential to nourish and protect the sperm as it
travels through the fallopian tube to meet the egg for fertilization. Also, after conception, implantation
occurs in the uterine lining. Does this mean while on Femara for fertility you won t experience

Descriptive Sea World
A few years ago, on a hot summer day, a short Asian boy stared at the sky in disbelief. A roller coaster
loomed over him, and the shadow of it cast over his face. In a few hours later, he found himself

mess that I had to clean up. Anyways, the shows at Sea World are always the same, so we are left with
a few choices, to rewatch the shows, go to new animal exhibits, or go on some rides. We quickly went
through the new exhibits, and between all these exhibits were the two largest rides in the park. One of
them was what I call the traditional roller coaster, where it goes up slowly so you can enjoy the
beautiful view of the park, then plunge down suddenly, your heart filled with fear and your ears filled
with screams. The other was even worse. It twisted around and went upside down and then went to the
moon. Suddenly, Mom asked Would you like to ride any those rides? You seem really bored riding

The Role Of Hierarchy In The Early Church
As the early church expanded some teaching weren t clear that they were the word of God. One of the
teaching is apostolic succession. Hierarchy is a system or organization in which people or groups are
ranked one above the other according to status or authority. Through hierarchy many beliefs were
passed down the ministry by popes and bishops. Many of these belief include the canon,
eucatist, hierarchies and etc. In order to find out what the was really said back then we must go back to
the early church fathers and read their manuscripts. In Matthew 16:19 Jesus says I will give you the

which Jesus gives the key to Peter and with them never his doors close for anyone. Therefore Peter is

that the Church will grow from. With this we a can now say that Peter is the head of the

Throughout mankind s history, music has been used as a vital form of human expression. Whether
capturing and conveying feelings of sorrow, rage, triumph, or love, its primary purpose has always

However, unlike many modern bands, The Alabama Shakes do not use these tricks to overwhelm their
music. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the excerpts from The Alabama Shakes concert in Cary, North
Carolina, and believe this concert displayed the perfect combination of musical talent, soul, and
showmanship.
The differences between these musical styles are incredibly distinct. The Baroque concert excerpt is
entirely instrumental, and the music is comprised of melodies and harmonies played by approximately
18 22 musicians (MusicArtstrings). The rock concert involves only five band members, and the songs
performed contain lyrics, performed by the lead singer (ConcertvideoNC). It is important to note,
however, that not all Baroque music is strictly instrumental. In fact, according to Leo Beranek, the
emergence of baroque music between 1600 and approximately 1750 brought the world a more highly
rhythmic, harmonic thematic balance in which voice and instrument frequently combined... (8).
Adagio has a very slow build that spans over four minutes (MusicArtstrings), whereas the average
song performed by The Alabama Shakes reaches its hook or chorus which could be considered the
song s climax within the first minute, and this hook is typically repeated multiple times throughout the
song (ConcertvideoNC). Yet Baroque music did introduce songs in which the parts were not all of

Evil Revivalists And Evil Sceptics
In philosophy, there are two groups of people who debate the concept of evil, Evil Revivalists and Evil
Sceptics. Evil Revivalists are all about evil being a useful term in today s society. They argue the word
evil is the only concept we can use for the worst of the worst. They also say that only by facing the
evil in our lives can we prevent it. This theory helps society to focus our limited energy and resources
when describing evil and helps us to respond better to evil. The Evil Sceptics on the other hand think
evil is concept that is too extreme and only hinders our thinking about bad events. They argue that evil

The State Of Charter Schools
To understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to know how a charter school was
envisioned to be. Tell explains that charter schools, by nature, should be more accurately described as
contract schools. These schools are contractually obligated to serve the interest of the general public
by providing education opportunities using the funds provided from taxes. Traditionally, charter
schools are defined as tuition free, publicly funded, performance based, non sectarian, public schools
of choice open to all. [1] These schools are considered autonomous because they are exempt from
most, if not all, local and state rules and regulations regarding education. The reduction of applicable
laws pertaining to these schools are supposed to liberate them from the supposedly strict regulations
that bog down the education system that prevent teachers from what they were actually hired to do: to
teach. Although novel in concept, this idea has been difficult to implement in reality. To better
understand the state of charter schools today, it is important to understand its history. The first charter
school law of the United States began in Minnesota in 1991 and has since then spread throughout the
United States to 43 states, and Washington D.C. and Puerto Rico. These schools today compromise of
approximately 6% of public schools, and enroll 2.5 million students annually.[2] Charter schools open
annually throughout these states, but more interestingly, many close as

Annotated In Socrates The Apology
Socrates is put to trial by three accusers Meletus, Anytus, and Lycon. They claim that Socrates is an
evildoer, that he is corrupting the youth of Athens, and that he is promoting atheism. In The Apology
Socrates is not truly apologizing for his actions, rather he is defending himself and his actions.
At the beginning of Socrates trial he merely states that he has no experience with the courts and he
wishes no one to judge him by the way he speaks. The first set of charges against Socrates really
seems to worry him because he states the charges are all just rumors that are spread around about him,
that could relate back to a play he was in as a child. The first set of charges Socrates is charged with

Transatlantic Declaration, New Transatlantic Agenda, And...
The United States has formally maintained diplomatic relations with the European community since
1947 when the US and many European states were founding signers of the General Agreement on
Tariffs and Trade (GATT). The agreement was designed to provide an international forum that
encouraged free trade between member states by regulating and reducing tariffs on traded goods and
by providing a common mechanism for resolving trade disputes. The WTO replaced GATT as the
organization overseeing the multilateral trading system in 1994, and now consists of 144 member
states. There are three recent landmarks observed by the European Commission: the Transatlantic
Declaration, New Transatlantic Agenda, and the Transatlantic Economic Partnership. In 1990 the
Transatlantic Declaration was adopted, laying down the principles for greater EU/US consultation and
cooperation in the fields of economy, education, science, and culture. In 1995 the New Transatlantic
Agenda (NTA) and the EU/US Joint Action Plan were adopted, providing a framework for partnership
under four platforms: promoting peace, stability, democracy and development around the world;
responding to changes; contributing to the expansion of world trade and fostering closer ties; building
bridges across the Atlantic Ocean. The Transatlantic Economic Partnership (TEP) was formed in 1998
to tackle technical barriers to trade and stimulate multilateral liberalization. This is to be done by

The Event That Changed My Life Essay
There have been very few events throughout my lifetime that I feel have impacted or inspired me with
such noteworthiness and that I know will change my outlook on the world and affect me forever. One
of those events occurred when I traveled to Portugal, my parent s homeland. From this excursion in
2007, I learned the importance of family, most importantly the distant kind. It provided me with a
totally different perspective on the world and how large and extended one s family can really be; even
across cultures and continents. I felt so fortunate learning this lesson at a young age and growing to

Since the town I was in was in a very rural area of the country, on the northern most point, near the
border of Spain, whatever meats, fruits and vegetables I ate were freshly grown or raised on local
farms. I had a first hand experience with this when I went to my grandmother s very old friend s
house. While I was there, I saw my first freshly prepared chicken with the head, feathers, and feet
removed in front of my eyes. Even though this seemed like a gory and almost disgusting thing to me
at the time, I later found out, in the film Food Inc., that the ways animals are treated in this country are
much worse than what I saw that day. Nonetheless, the freshness of ingredients in any cooking is
always a plus, and this made better by being at the table with my family and friends. From having
spent these few hours with my relatives in Portugal, I was able to come away knowing great tasting
food and beautiful, and at times gory, memories. Quite honestly, I ve never had better tasting chicken.
The Portuguese culture, which I had already grown up with in the U.S., was a main part of the trip in
and of itself. The magnificent architecture that I saw there, even though it was decaying with time,
was very symbolic of the Portuguese heritage. For example, on many red clay terracotta roof tops
there resided cupolas, and on those cupolas was the famed Gallo do Barcelos (English equivalent

Social Commentary In There Will Come Soft Rains By Ray...
There Will Come Soft Rains is a short story written which displays after the eradication of humanity,
nature will thrive. The story is based on the final house that is left standing after a nuclear war. It is the
only house which managed to withstand this disaster; a large fire. The author uses social commentary
to elucidate natures independence. Social commentary is when an individual speaks or writes about an
opinion on social issues or society. There Will Come Soft Rains, by Ray Bradbury presents the
audience with the idea that nature will persevere after the extinction of humanity through usage of
literary devices. An analogy is a comparison between a concept that is familiar to the audience and a

Trial By Hot Iron Evidence
Trial by hot Iron was one way to determine innocence in the Middle Ages, you had to undergo this
trial to prove your innocence. In this trial the defendant would have to carry an iron that weighed one
pound, after it was heated over fire and pulled out during a ritual prayer. He or she would carry the hot
iron metal for 9 feet, measured by the own defendants foot size. Their hands are strapped at the end of
the 9 feet. Then they would be examined after 3 days by a Priest. They were considered guilty if there
hands weren t showing any progress of healing. If there hands were showing progress of healing he or
she is innocent .If the crime of the accused was particularly bad such as betrayal of a Lord or murder

The Battle Of The Ss St. Louis
On September 1, 1939 war broke out after Germany invaded Poland. The harsh act led to many more
invasions and battles. During the holocaust, Germany moved Jews by the thousands to concentration
camps all throughout Germany. These camps tortured Jews in different ways such as gas chambers,
hanged them, and burned them alive in large groups. In total, Hitler and his followers killed 11 million
people. 6 million of them Jewish and 1 million children(Wikipedia). Jews were trying to flee from the
country. Some were able to aboard the SS St. Louis. Captain, Gustav Schröder stepped up to get
refugees to safety in another country. This was one of many ways Jews escaped the country.

At 4:00 on May 27,1939, the ship arrived to the coast of Havana, Cuba. Cuba denied entry to the usual
docking areas for the ship. Due to the restriction, the ship dropped anchor and spent six long days
docked just outside of the harbor. After a long wait, the Cuban government granted any passengers
with a visa, access to Cuba. Twenty two of the twenty nine passengers that Cuba had given entry to
were Jewish and had valid U.S. visas. The six other passengers included four Spanish citizens and two
Cuban nationals that had the documents that allowed them valid entry. During this time, they brought
the one passenger who attempted to commit suicide to a hospital in Havana. For the remaining 908
passengers, the Cuban government would not allow them access.
Florida
Next, the ship circled around Florida. The Captain persisted and persevered through this trip to find
refuge for the passengers. Schröder even considered going close to the shore of Florida to allow the
refugees to jump off the ship and swim to shore, but the U.S. Coast Guard made this impossible by
watching them. The St. Louis was denied access to Cuba but also the U.S.; where they sent a warning
shot to keep the ship off the shores in Florida. According to the law, the refugees could not enter the
U.S. on tourist visas either because they did not have any return addresses. There was no hope for the

DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology
The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and
concepts were brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both
experienced an influx of new technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward
technology and labor was very open and optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards
technology and labor was relatively more strict and they didn t really see technology as something
enlightened .
The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how
technology is an essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place
to assure everything goes to plan. Document 1 mentions some organization and order that s needed to
make sure everything works, and document 2 mentions how the workers are using crude brittle tools
and need to get new tools that are in good condition so they can work more efficiently. Both of these
documents may have a slight bias considering both of them are written by Han government officials

Students Of Mattawan s Ap Environmental Class
On October 6th 2015, the students of Mattawan s AP Environmental class took a trip to the local
stream of the Mattawan Consolidated Schools area. The purpose of this trip was to conduct a stream
study to determine the health, conditions, and pollution levels of this small body of water. A multitude
of factors came into play when making a judgement on the stream s health, and making sure to take all
of these essential points was crucial to the study. A variety of thorough experiments were conducted to
help make this overlying conclusion, as many students adopted many roles in the study. Students used
a physical survey form, water test data sheet, and taxa recording sheet to record their findings.
Teamwork was essential in making sure all of this information could be found accurately and
efficiently. The combination of all of the final results allowed the class to make a judgement of the
stream s state. For the convenience of the students, a packet for recording the stream s content and
results was provided. On the first and second page, tables for seeing the taxa types of aquatic
macroinvertebrates found were laid out, and students were to check the boxes with the names of the
taxa they found in this area. Students entered the stream with a large water strain, and put dirt from the
stream and carried it out of the stream to be examined. After observing several catches from the
stream, the group one taxa findings included Stonefly nymph, Mayfly nymph, and Dobson fly nymph.

interactions, research and personal experiences that keep pointing me in the same direction. RN

of medicine. Before stepping into this world, i was a waiter and it was at that job i realized how
important short interactions with people can be. It s the smaller gestures and the way you present your
self that can make the experience that much better for the customer. As i transferred my career to the
bedside, i began to see how important taking your time, speaking calmly, allowing time for the patient
to take in what you just said, and sometimes just listening is. I ve witnessed some of the most brilliant
minds in medicine have awkward, rude, empty and short interactions with people. I don t think this
was done out of malice or discontent but more a lack of social knowledge and what it means to truly
encompass the multifaceted skill it is to treat the patient. No patient is going to remember what
antibiotic you gave, but they are going to remember you sitting at the bedside and explaining to them

Benefits Of Payroll Outsourcing
Payroll outsourcing can save companies time and money. It allows the business to not waste man
hours handling a function that doesn t bring in any revenue. The cost of payroll processing is greatly
reduced by using a payroll service company. It usually costs more to pay an employee to handle the
payroll than it would cost to outsource to a professional company.
Another cost savings of outsourcing is avoiding penalties and fees from the IRS and state if a tax
filing or payment is submitted late or incorrectly. In the event that an error does occur most payroll
service companies will pay the penalties and interest that are accrued.
Payroll companies [http://www.apluspayrollservice.com] stay up to date on the newest tax tables and
tax laws. Tax laws are constantly changing and payroll companies stay on top of the new changes to
keep the business out of trouble. Payroll companies offer services like direct deposit and pay as you

The Undercover Economist
I am very interested in the upcoming election and how the different parties attitudes to business and
welfare will affect the vote and the eventual success of the country. I wish to study a course that will
provide me with a thorough insight into the political and economic impact of our national decisions.
Books such as Tim Harford s The Undercover Economist have further revealed how the economy and
the real world interact. This has made me query how much a number like the GDP matters when it
fails to take into account elements as important (albeit nearly immeasurable) as a population s
happiness. I am interested that Nicolas Sarkozy is raising these issues in France. I keep up with current
affairs through reading newspaper articles and watching programs such as Question Time.

COPD Patient Education
Background Information
Encompassed primarily by two conditions, emphysema and chronic bronchitis, Chronic Obstructive
Pulmonary Disease (COPD) refers to a group of diseases of a debilitating and progressive nature that
cause inflammation of the airway and interferes with the ability to breathe (National Heart, Lung, and
Blood Institute [NHLBI], 2013). The diseases in COPD have some shared characteristics, including a
progressive and irreversible limitation of the airflow associated with an abnormal inflammation of the
peripheral bronchioles and considerable damage to lung parenchyma (NHLBI, 2013). In the United
States (US), there are approximately 15.7 million adults diagnosed with COPD, although estimates

This NP led education would be inclusive of disease management strategies, including smoking
cessation, strict adherence to prescribed medications, strategies to avoid air pollutants or triggers, and
recognition of worsening symptoms that may lead to a COPD exacerbation (CDC, 2016). The
educational intervention would be comprised of evidence based strategies geared towards symptom
management and decreasing the incidence of COPD exacerbations that would require inpatient
management. Additional benefits of the intervention would include an increase in the patient s
tolerance to physical activity as well as an increased quality of life that has been associated with a
reduction in the incidence of depression and isolation (Corbridge et al., 2012). An educational
intervention is better suited for an evidence based project as it is more subjective in nature and
requires less manipulation of the research variables (University of Southern California, 2017). In
contrast, the NP led educational intervention proposed is less suited for a research project, such as a
randomized controlled trial (RCT) as it would be the case if the effectiveness of medications were
being researched (University of Southern California, 2017). Lastly, the expected outcome would be a
properly educated patient who is able to participate actively in the management of the condition and,
as a result, would maximize his of health status and decrease the incidence of COPD exacerbations
that would require ED visits or inpatient hospital

a boy and a girl who will later compete against twenty two other people from the age ranges of twelve

officials will come around and check to see if this is the case. If not, you ll be imprisoned. In
punishment for the uprising, each of the twelve districts must provide one girl and one boy, called

hold anything from a burning desert to a frozen wasteland. Over a period of several weeks, the
competitors must fight to the death. Katniss also stated this about The Capitol this is the Capitol s way
of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy. How little chance we would stand for surviving
another rebellion. Whatever words they use, the real message is clear. Look how we take your children

The Operating System Linux
3. Linux
3.1 Introduction:
The operating system Linux is an open source version of UNIX [6]. In 1992 [8] Linus Torvalds, who
was a computer science student at the University of Helsinki [6], was the one who started this
operating system.
Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid and high end servers and on gadgets),
which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in the market due to the hard work of
both employees and volunteers [6].
Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and then the next
process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as non preemptive scheduling [8]. After years,
preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in parallel by switching between them [8].
3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time Sharing Scheduling technique [7], which
means It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing requirements . The CPU is divided into
small sections, which allows many process to run simultaneously [7]. Time sharing depends on timer
interrupts [7].
3.2 Scheduling Priorities:
The priority ranges differ for real time tasks and normal tasks in Linux scheduler [1]. In real time
tasks: priorities vary from 0 to 99. In normal tasks: processes priorities range from 100 to 139.
Processes who have higher priorities are numerically lower than others [1].
Normal tasks are appointed priorities based on their nice

Biological Diversity and the Ways It Can Be Destroyed,...
For my topic I chose to explore biological diversity and ways that it can be destroyed, restored, and
maintained. In class, we were taught that diversity is the number of distinct species of animals, insects,
plants, etc. that are living in a particular area. We found out that diversity is greater in the tropics and
less towards the poles. This is called the Latitude Diversity Gradient and could be due to one or more
of three theories. They are the cradle hypothesis that says the area where species tend to be born is in
the tropical latitudes, the museum hypothesis that says the tropical latitudes provide a better habitat for
species that go extinct in other latitudes, and the destination hypothesis that says species migrate to the

Another example is that species are adapting to the stresses of living in the city, such as high
population density and high heavy metal concentrations in the soil. The last example that was given
was the house mouse and the Norway rat. These are both non native species brought to New York that
are developing a resistance to the warfarin used to try to kill them. (Taking a Walk on New York s
Wild Side) This last example also shows us that introducing non native species can increase diversity.
The problem with that is sometimes those species become invasive species and can have negative
effects on the diversity in an area. This can also happen with non native plants and insects species as
well. Methods of restoring biological diversity were addressed in this lecture too. The presenter said
that the best way to maintain biological diversity is to keep natural area large and undisturbed because
a larger space equals more diversity in species. While there are many projects that are working to
restoring land to wild habitat, this option is not always possible. When building new parks, panels of
experts put a lot of thought into what species would do well if introduced to the area. This includes
animals, plants, birds, trees, insects, etc. They then introduce those species to the park when it is
finished. Many companies are working towards putting green roofs on their company buildings. This

The Rugby League
Rugby is a team sport played on a field. There are three main forms of rugby rugby league, rugby
union and sevens. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the first
two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long and is
divided into two halves of continuous action.
The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent s goal line.
This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try, the
player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which the
ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try. The
team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the field. If
successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn points is
through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the
opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point.
Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory
protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear head
gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats.
There are a number of positions on the field, generally divided

The criteria based reminder was used to remind the nurse to check if the catheter could be removed
and also reminds them the catheter needed to be properly cleaned. The research method was a
randomized control trial (Chen et al., 2013). The sample of this study was from two respiratory ICUs
in a medical center in Taiwan. The study involved 231 patients who had catheters inserted in the ICUs
and 130 patients who had catheters inserted on other units (Chen et al., 2013). Data was collected by
having urine specimens taken from urinary catheter patients on the unit, they then tested for urinary
tract infections (Chen et al., 2013). Two groups of catheter patients were tested, one with the criteria
based reminder implemented and one without (Chen et al., 2013). The study showed that the criteria

Executive Order 13767
In the constitution it states that the Presidents purpose is; to be chief of state, chief executive, chief
administrator, chief diplomat, commander in chief, chief legislature, party chief, and chief citizen (The
presidents job description). As the chief of legislature, one of the presidents duties is to not only
review bills being proposed by congress, and occasionally say they must be revised but to also enact
laws affecting the people of the United States immediately, rather than wait for them to move up
through the many levels and debates of congress. For this, he can use the power of an executive order,
a constitutional way to provide laws that relate to national welfare or the good of the citizens. A few
good example of this would be executive order 13767, which moves for additional border security on
the United States southern border, and executive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry
Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may
seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they
convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems
about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks
to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common
themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems
are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power
associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of
social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s
emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices.
In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is
written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is
tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further.
This could possibly be because there is not much left to desired in prose or Dickinson is refraining
from giving prose any further recognition. To Dickinson, poetry is limitless in possibilities, which she

She went to an interrogation and sworn testimony. Lola has been examined and Brinoy feels good
about what she did. Cecilia is walking worried through the room and she looks angry to Briony,
because she can t believe the story from her sister. In the living room is everyone waiting for Robbie.
Briony get the letter out of Cecilia s room and is showing it the policeman, Leon an her mom Emily.
Cecilia is angry about it and will that they stop to read her letter. Emily is saying to Cecilia that she
could prevent that if she had shown the letter earlier. In the morning Robbie is coming back whit the
twins. Everyone is happy that the twins are back. The policeman is taking Robbie in the car and they
are driving away. I am pretty sure that Briony is lying about what she saw and that Robbie didn t do
anything. I like the part in the book were Briony is telling the story to everyone and that more and
more people believe her story because you can see on this part how fast spread rumor. I think that is a
good example that you should always say the truth. I think that Briony didn t tell the truth in this part
and that she just said this because she didn t like Robbie. I am very excited how the story will go

Watson and one of his students, Rosalie Rayner. At the John Hopkins University, Watson and Rayner s goal was to condition certain phobias into a perfectly normal child. Watson was testing Pavlov s theory on humans, not dogs. They chose a nine month old baby who they called Albert, or Little Albert. Watson tested Albert with a white rat, a white rabbit, a monkey, a variety of mask, and burning newspaper. This was the neutral stimulus because he showed no fear when presented with these objects. Then he was placed on a mattress with a rat. When he would touch the rat Watson would hit a piece of steel with a hammer. This was the unconditional stimulus. Those wishing to add one to their landscape need to consider all aspects of the tree before planting, as the tree has a variety of drawbacks that don t make it suitable for many locations. Basic Description Eastern cottonwood (Populus deltoids), which is also its common name, is a fast growing deciduous tree that obtains an additional 6 feet of growth yearly and reaches a mature height and width of 100 feet. Due to this habit of quick growth, the wood is soft and brittle, breaking easily in windy conditions. Bark, Stems and Foliage The bark and trunk on a mature cottonwood tree is deeply furrowed, thick and gray and with younger trees, the bark is a greenish gray. Young stems and branches are a yellowish green in color, changing to a grayish color as they age. Mature trees develop an open and irregular shaped crown. Foliage is thick and heart shaped with coarse ridges lining the edges, averaging 2 to 6 inches long. During the growing season their color is green, changing to yellow during the fall before the foliage drops during the winter months. Looking around, a high fence surrounded the facility, creating an inescapable doom for the animal that had been bred and nurtured by humans. The hunter took careful aim and fired his weapon, instantly killing this African antelope that is prized for its curved horns. This hunter had a clear advantage over the antelope; he didn t need to know much about his prey or his surrounding environment. There are over a thousand captive hunting ranches located throughout North America and nearly half of them are found within the state of Texas. Due to struggling financial straits, Texas cattle ranchers were provided incentive to import endangered game with the passage of the End angered Species Act (ESA) of 1973. Some of these ranches import animals on the brink of global extinction to Texas in order to raise, care, and repopulate these species. In some cases, these animals on the verge of extinction can be returned to their native lands. But most ranchers are not too concerned with saving endangered species for the sake of the animals; they are interested in this business because it is very profitable ( Can hunting Endangered Animals save the Species? ). Proponents of these ranches, and the ranchers themselves, see there is an economic good derived from allowing captive animal hunts. For many cultures, hunting has been an honored tradition and was a necessary means for food and supplies. In modern times, most people no longer have to kill animals for subsistence; instead, it is more of a recreation (Institutionalizing harm). As a means of generating income, these private captive ranches charge a sizeable fee for the opportunity to hunt highly prized animals. Given the success of Cheesecake factory, I would say they should keep their hierarchal structure the same and if anything they should add higher monitoring of lower levels. The upper levels seem to operate efficiently, but upon reading employee reviews of working at Cheesecake factory, there were several that were unhappy with their general managers. Many of them claimed that the management was unapproachable, and did not pay attention to the hard work of the employees. It was also said that the managers tend to be overbearing and lack communication skills with employees. Tell explains that charter schools, by nature, should be more accurately described as contract schools. These schools are contractually obligated to serve the interest of the general public by providing education opportunities using the funds provided from taxes. Traditionally, charter schools are defined as tuition free, publicly funded, performance based, non sectarian, public schools of choice open to all. [1] These schools are considered autonomous because they are exempt from most, if not all, local and state rules and regulations regarding education. The reduction of applicable laws pertaining to these schools are supposed to liberate them from the supposedly strict regulations that bog down the education system that prevent teachers from what they were actually hired to do: to teach. DBQ on Han and Roman attitudes toward technology The Han dynasty and Roman empire lasted through periods of enlightenment where new ideas and concepts were brought up. Although in slightly different time periods, the Han and Romans both experienced an influx of new technology that changed their ways of life. The Han s attitude toward technology and labor was very open and optimistic. On the other hand, the Roman attitude towards technology and labor was relatively more strict and they didn t really see technology as something enlightened . The Han Dynasty viewed technology as essential in various ways. Documents 1 and 2 show how technology is an essential thing and that although it is great, government intervening must take place to assure everything goes to plan. In 1992 [8] Linus Torvalds, who was a computer science student at the University of Helsinki [6], was the one who started this operating system. Linux is used on variety of hardware (e.g. on workstations, mid and high end servers and on gadgets), which makes it unique [6]. Linux keeps maintaining its position in the market due to the hard work of both employees and volunteers [6]. Previously, UNIX systems used batch jobs, which run a process until it is finished and then the next process will run [8]. What UNIX used is known as non preemptive scheduling [8]. After years, preemptive scheduling was used to run processes in parallel by switching between them [8]. 3.2 Scheduling Technique: Linux scheduler is based on Time Sharing Scheduling technique [7], which means It can effectively schedule tasks that have strict timing requirements . The CPU is divided into small sections, which allows many process to run simultaneously [7]. Time sharing depends on timer interrupts [7]. 3.2 Scheduling Priorities: The priority ranges differ for real time tasks and normal tasks in Linux scheduler [1]. In class, we were taught that diversity is the number of distinct species of animals, insects, plants, etc. that are living in a particular area. We found out that diversity is greater in the tropics and less towards the poles. This is called the Latitude Diversity Gradient and could be due to one or more of three theories. They are the cradle hypothesis that says the area where species tend to be born is in the tropical latitudes, the museum hypothesis that says the tropical latitudes provide a better habitat for species that go extinct in other latitudes, and the destination hypothesis that says species migrate to the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The last example that was given was the house mouse and the Norway rat. These are both non native species brought to New York that are developing a resistance to the warfarin used to try to kill them. (Taking a Walk on New York s Wild Side) This last example also shows us that introducing non native species can increase diversity. The problem with that is sometimes those species become invasive species and can have negative effects on the diversity in an area. This can also happen with non native plants and insects species as well. Methods of restoring biological diversity were addressed in this lecture too. The presenter said that the best way to maintain biological diversity is to keep natural area large and undisturbed because a larger space equals more diversity in species. While there are many projects that are working to restoring land to wild habitat, this option is not always possible. When building new parks, panels of experts put a lot of thought into what species would do well if introduced to the area. This paper will focus primarily on elements that they have in common. For the first two forms, there are thirteen players on the field for each team. A game is eighty minutes long and is divided into two halves of continuous action. The objective of rugby is to carry an oblong ball down the field and across the opponent s goal line. This is the main scoring play, known as a try. A try is worth five points. In order to count for a try, the player must take the ball across the goal line and set it down on the ground. The point at which the ball is set down is used as the basis for the try at goal. This is a kicking play, and it follows a try. The team that scored the try attempts to kick the ball through the upright goal in the middle of the field. If successful, the try at goal is worth two points. The other way that rugby teams can earn points is through field goals. This is earned any time a player kicks the ball through the uprights of the opponent. This can happen from open play or on a penalty, and is worth one point. Rugby is played on a large field and the players wear little equipment. There is no mandatory protective equipment, despite the high level of contact in the game. Some players do opt to wear head gear or mouthguards, and also shin guards to protect against cleats. • 44. Emily Dickinson s Poetry And Poetry Emily Dickinson s poems They shut me up in Prose and I Dwell in Possibility on the surface may seem similar, both having the same structure, three four lined stanzas, and punctuation. However, they convey different messages. Typically Dickinson writes dark, meditative and defiant toned poems about death, gender and poetry itself, often challenging social beliefs and traditions. Each poem sticks to these pre modernist views and styles, but place the emphasis on different aspects of her common themes. Although the poems are similar in form and their uses of metaphors, the focus of these poems are different, I dwell in Possibility focuses on the limitless possibilities of poetry and the power associated with it, while They shut me up in Prose discusses the role of a female poet being free of social restraints in a mans world through poetry, together these individual themes convey Dickinson s emphatic view of poetry s ability to free women from social prejudices. In I dwell in Possibility Emily Dickenson compares poetry to prose in the first few lines. Prose is written in the normal syntax of everyday conversation. It has no metrical structure, as well; it is tedious and lacks expression. After the first two lines however, prose is not mentioned any further.
