My Korean Adoption
The last personal narrative that, in a way, continues where the last left off, is a trip that I took with a
group of other adoptees to Korea over the summer of my freshman year. Being the first time I had
visited my birth country since infancy I was undeniably nervous, not knowing what exactly what to
expect. The fact that I was travelling with other children in my own unique cultural situation, many of
whom were fluent in the native language, however, gave me great comfort in venturing outside my
personal realm of familiarity. Easing my transition into the foreign land, many of them willingly
offered their assistance whenever I was struggling to communicate or comprehend information.
Within the small group of my peers in the program, I felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Just as Malcolm X who had shed his personal attire for traditional white towels in an environment
where you could be a king or a peasant and no one would know , I had temporarily stripped myself of
my external Western context by entering a setting that would see superficially not as an adopted girl
with white parents, but as an indistinguishable Korean. (Malcolm X 371) At first, when I was guarded
by the cover provided by peers, I embraced this sense of unity from a distance, indulging in the fact
that nobody notably labeled me as different based on my physical appearance. However, as Malcolm
X s travels show, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to completely discard of your primary
context when venturing into previously unexplored territories. For me, this revelation became clearly
evident when I was forcibly removed from my veil of collective solidarity when physically separated
from my friend group. While Malcolm X wrestled with standing out as a foreigner despite his role as
Muslim minister back home, I struggled heavily with establishing an identity due to my inability to
speak the Korean language. In this way, I faced the same sort of grappling with a double
consciousness that can often be seen manifested in the complex struggle of African American in their
quest for

Luminol Research Paper
For our science project, we chose to do one that included luminol. Before we started, we found 3 cites,
stating, luminol will preform better in extreme heat than it does in room temperature or ice water. Also
one cite says, It is used by crime scene investigators to discover spots of blood, even spots that may
have been washed. The last cite writes, It was concluded that an inverse relationship exists between
surface temperature and the reaction rate of the Luminol test. Our question/ purpose was, How does
temperature affect luminol? My hypothesis was that I thought that the warm water would affect the
luminol more than the cold water. For this experiment, we needed a few materials. Those included a
luminol kit from Amazon which had

Essay about Article 92
Article 92 Good order and Military discipline: The Disciplinary Regulations of the United States
Army define military discipline as a strict and honorable compliance by all servicemen with the order
and rules prescribed by laws, military regulations and orders of commanders (superiors). Military
discipline is a special form of military relations. Its specifics lie in coordinating the conduct and
actions of military personnel and in serving to establish such relations as are required for successful
joint activity. The conduct of servicemen is regulated by special rules and standards of behavior set
forth in laws, military regulations and orders of commanders (superiors) and reflecting the specific
features of the military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All enlistees, both as personalities and members of definite service and public structures (including
those with a negative impact on discipline), their relations and degree of activity form in the aggregate
the disciplinary system of an element (unit). Psychological support for troops has emerged as a
necessity because this kind of work can deal, to a considerable extent, with a set of specific
psychological problems arising within disciplinary systems at all levels, not the lower echelons alone,
as is often believed. Occasionally it is just the matter of an enlistee being unprepared for discipline
abiding lifestyle (ignorance of army regulations, orders and regulatory documents). Sometimes,
however, psychological problems stem from clearly expressed anti disciplinary attitudes in some or
other serviceman, which attitudes tend to disorganize military activities, mixing, and off duty routine.
Two groups of disciplinary psychological problems are identified. First, inadequacy (weakness,
instability, incompleteness, and unfinished nature) of individual, group or organizational mechanisms
for normative behavior and control thereof as is revealed by practice; certain enlistees lack the
required disciplinary motivation and/or they cannot behave in an organized way in conformity with
the regulations, rules, laws, and military traditions. Military command and control agencies, for their
part, do not have enough energy and skills to

Dress Codes In Schools
Should schools have a dress code? Harvard University recently put out an article talking about how
54% of schools in America have a strict dress code and the other 46% either don t or only have a small
dress code rule. Schools should have a dress code but it doesn t have to be very strict.
Schools having a dress code is necessary but some schools go a little overboard with dress code. For
example, the article Harvard recently put out addresses that dress codes are a must in most schools but
not a big deal in the rest of the schools. As another, Harvard also said, Dress codes are important but
some schools take it a little too far. This is important because schools should have a dress code but, a
dress code that is not very strict. For example

Comparable Worth
Introduction: The debate in this study is that of whether or not to use comparable worth as the basis
for future pay adjustments. Comparable worth, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the concept that
women and men should receive equal pay for jobs calling for comparable skill and responsibility or
that is of comparable worth to the employer. To further expand on this, the term comparable worth
describes the idea that gender biased jobs should be reanalyzed to determine their worth to an
employer. In theory, the goal of comparable worth is to raise wages for traditionally female biased
jobs to the level of those for comparable male biased jobs. Comparable worth should not be confused
with equal pay for equal work. Comparable worth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Therefore, different job evaluation systems and different job evaluators are likely to assign different
rankings to the same set of occupations. Recommendations: After careful consideration of the relevant
facts of this case, my recommendation would be to deny the request of future wage adjustments based
upon comparable worth. This recommendation is being made in light of several key factors. The first
factor is that under comparable worth, employers would be required to set wages to reflect differences
in the worth of jobs, with worth largely determined by job evaluation studies, not by market forces.
This sounds good in theory, however, it will put the organization at a distinct disadvantage. According
to Ann Barres, The size of a worker s paycheck would be unrelated to supply/demand conditions in
the labor market. Therefore comparative worth could artificially inflate wages in some jobs and
thereby attracting more people than the market could absorb. Any radical restructuring of pay scales
would place an unfair burden on employers by raising their costs, and would unfairly impinge upon
their freedom to earn their livelihood as they choose(2). On the other hand if there was a shortage of
workers in one job, the employers hands would be tied as they could not raise the wages as to attract
more applicants. The next issue is that of determining comparative worth. Given the large number and
diversity of jobs being rated, it is unlikely that

Importance Of Service Learning In The Classroom
This is the first hour of the required service learning. While this wasn t the start of the hands on
service, this service learning training acted like a prequel. The training was inside ms. soma s
classroom. Her class is set up in tables rather than the traditional single desks. looking back at her
room, i believed she used that setup, to encourage discussions and collaboration. Within this training
session, Ms. Tennison guided us through who and what are El students are, as well as to make the
most out of our service learning. i found myself wondering why someone who came and represented

question as mentioned before, as to why they wouldn t just throw this stuff away? most of these items
are perfectly fine, the expiration date is more for stores and they re sell by date m if anything. she said.
we continued searching throw the boxes in mostly silence. if i had any questions about the expiration

no cases, the expiration dates were usually so old, i found myself in disbelief that these were on the
shelfs still. I Would find mac and cheese boxes as old as 2013 and even a canned soup from 2014. I
assumed that those items would ve been not only taken off the shelfs first by participants, because of
popularity but i also assumed why wouldn t those items have been pulled off the shelf earlier than
now? or donated earlier? The food shelf doesn t accept items that dated however, and they were
thrown out. While going threw one the boxes i found a bag of Brookside Dark Chocolate Acai
Blueberry Flavors. i remember asking where they go only to find out, the food shelf doesn t accept

Critical Analysis Of The Movie Hunger Games
In this essay, I will do a critical analysis of the movie Hunger Games, the short story The Story of an
Hour, and Taylor Swift s music video Look What You Make Me Do in terms of the use of symbolism,
and the new self. The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12
who volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. The
games itself is a competition to see who s the strongest. The story of an Hour is a short story that
describes the series of emotions Louise Mallard endures after hearing of the death of her husband,
Brently, who was reported to have died in a railroad accident. Mrs. Mallard suffers from heart
problems. Therefore, her sister and her husband s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The Mockingjay pin is the circular gold token Katniss wears during the Games to represent District
12. Each tribute is allowed one item to remind them of their friends and family in their home district;
the small pin bearing the image of a bird in flight is Katniss s. A Mockingjay is hybrid a bird. They
were once very important by the Capitol until the rebels caught on and started feeding the jabberjays
false info. Katniss s Mockingjay pin, symbolizes a creature with a spirit of its own. As hybrid
creatures that have broken free of the control of the Capitol, they suggest the inability of the Capitol to
enforce their power over all living creatures. These birds are signs of resistance and rebellion. As
Katniss says, they re something of a slap in the face to the Capitol. In many ways, Katniss herself is
very much like a Mockingjay and will come to identify the bird. This movie can also be analyzed with
Lacan s theory of new self. Katniss was forced to live in an unfair city, yet she managed to contain her
identity throughout the games. Food, for example, is a metaphor in the trilogy for another kind of
sustenance, the sustenance provided by an inner conviction of one s own worth and integrity. (Man
cannot live by bread alone.) The hunger to be an authentic self is a basic constituent of the game we
call life, and the difficulty of achieving that state Polonius tells Laertes to thine own self be true, but

The World On The Terrorism
When looking at the terrorism that ISIS has endued it has become very evident that a solution needs to
be drawn into action. In my opinion the only way to take down this organization is to begin to treat it
like the state that it is. A state is defined as: a nation or territory considered as an organized political
community under one government. ISIS has not only gained territory in Syria, Iraq and Istanbul but
according to New York Times columnist, Tim Arango, ISIS is building a capacity to govern. In 2014,
ISIS formally informed the world on their establishment of a caliphate. This caliphate is governed
under Islamic beliefs and rulers. They have begun issuing identification cards for residents,
promulgating fishing guidelines to preserve stocks, and requiring that cars carry tool kits for
emergencies (Arango). Believe it or not, ISIS has been a state for two years, regardless of their lack of
legitimacy, their consistent threat of violence against any of those who oppose their beliefs allows
them not only to get things done, but get them done efficiently. Whether we want to accept it, ISIS is a
state, and we need to treat it as such.
On the 29th of June in 2014, ISIS announced that a caliphate has been establish and the caliph was to
be Caliph Ibrahim. The saying goes, In order to kill a snake, one must cut off its head. The head of
ISIS is the caliphate in Iraq/Syria. I believe that collapsing the caliphate will collapse the organization.

Executive Order On Immigration
The U.S. has always being considered the land of opportunities. Back in my home country
opportunities were very scarce, which led to my family immigrating to the U.S. for a better future.
Having had firsthand experience in the immigration transition system, it has been captivating to hear
in the news about the Executive Order Obama issued on November 20, 2014. Seeing families getting
separated, violence raising in the Mexican border, and the increasing Latin population in the U.S.
signaled the need for this Executive Order in immigrant communities. Even though the Constitution

The Cotton Manufacture In Great Britain
English textile factories were very bad and unhealthy for the health of working class families. In the
book History of the Cotton Manufacture in Great Britain it says the children who labour in mills are
victims of frightful oppression and killing toil. They are often cruelly beaten by the spinners of the
overlookers that their feeble limbs become distorted by continual standing and stooping and they grow
up cripples. If indeed, they are not hurried into premature grave. This quote proves that they are being
treated badly. This quote also proves that they are unhealthy. Also accidents were very admitted to the
infirmary, though the children s hands and arms having been caught in the machinery in many

(z3442576) Thesis Statement During the old kingdom, Ma at was part of the peoples everyday life,
was not just a false façade and advocated social justice and equality. Introduction Ma at s concept
combines numerous factors that assume a complete disassociation in Egyptian imaginary. Ma at forms
the basis for understanding the civilization of Egypt in its entirety and longevity. Just like Ma at,
duality marks the history of Egypt whereby from the ancient philosophies of the Egyptians to their
politics; duality premise has been the order of the day. The application of this duality helped them
unite distinct cultures, while its recognition helped them to form a lasting civilization that had never
been experienced before. In terms of religion, this dual nature remains by no means as clear as in Ma
at. Thus, the dual nature of Ma at may be revealed in an intangible idea that embraces order, justice
and balance, as well as an anthropomorphic goddess. As the other cultures faced challenges in
explaining Ma at concept through the use of multiple terms, the Egyptians used a single term, an
aspect that provided a practical and positive distinct order principle. Through the Egyptians literature;
religious literature, instructional or even an epic story, revelation of the different faces of Ma at
remains evident. In this sense, Ma at was more than just a goddess or a concept as it personified a

La Vita E Bella or in English language, Life is Beautiful is a touching story about the unconditional

open a bookstore he rode on a car with his friend while his friend was reciting a poem about being
free. I felt laughed a little bit when the brake fluid of the car wrecked. They stopped on a barn to fix
their car when Guido met a school teacher named Dora. It was funny when Dora fell from a high tree
house then to Guido s arms. I can see on his eyes that he already felt that it was love at first sight. He
also called her Princess . I can also see in Dora s eyes on the way she laugh on Guido s jokes, she

Essay Disputing the Canon
Disputing the Canon
I was in the best of settings when I realized that Shakespeare was indeed great. My freshman year in
high school, I had English class with an esteemed teacher, Mr. Broza hailed as the Paul D. Schreiber
High School Shakespeare aficionado, founder of Schreiber s Annual Shakespeare Day, and, perhaps
most heart warming of all, a self proclaimed Shakespeare lover whose posters of The Bard could be
found as wallpaper in his small office. How lucky I thought I was. Indeed, if I wanted to appreciate
Hamlet, I was in the right hands.
But how misled I actually was at least, in Walker Percy s eyes. In his essay, The Loss of the Creature,
Percy recalls a scene from The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter:

After sitting by a tree and reading the text front to back, perhaps then I would be able to see
Shakespeare in Percy s sense of the word.
Percy s noble task is to open our minds to the possibility that we are not the masters of what we know
that, in part, what we know and what we see, when approached passively, have a lot more to do with
preformed symbolic complex than with ourselves (512). Percy s exploration achieves one of the main
goals of all philosophy to change the way we think about things. He changes the meaning of many
concepts human beings tend to take for granted. Sight is no longer the mere act of seeing, but a
struggle, an act of understanding and appreciation (523). Sovereignty, in relation to things, is no
longer some abstract concept of power, but an ability to interpret for oneself (517). Education or
perhaps more specifically, its dynamic is reshaped, for it is no longer a passive act (i.e. being taught to
) but an action that relies much more upon the student, who may have the greatest difficulty in
salvaging the creature itself from the educational package in which it is presented (519). These
concept alterations are thus meant to alter our reality; they aim to help us rediscover in art what he
calls in his opening paragraph an island, Formosa. This previously untouched island is beautiful to its
discoverer

Jean Piaget Vs Vygotsky
Jean Piaget was a cognitive theorist who was born in Switzerland in the late 1800 s. He began his life
with a concentration in the natural sciences, particularly the subject of mollusks, and later developed
an interest in cognitive theory ( Jean Piaget Biography, n.d.). His subsequent research and findings
greatly influenced the field of developmental psychology, particularly childhood cognitive
development theory. According to Saul McLeod, an instructor at the University of Manchester, prior to
Piaget s work the common assumption in psychology was that children are merely less competent
thinkers than adults. Piaget showed that young children think in strikingly different ways compared to
adults (McLeod, 2009). Instead, Piaget suggested ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Piaget s four developmental stages stressed the importance of a child s interaction with their
environment. The first stage, the sensorimotor stage, encompasses the first two years of a child s life
where they use their senses to explore the world around them. The second stage, the preoperational
stage, occurs between ages two and seven, where children develop symbolic thought. Symbolic
thought is a type of thinking in which symbols or internal images are used to represent objects,
persons, and events that are not present ( Symbolic Thought, n.d.). Again, children develop this type
of thought through activities such as make believe play, rather than social learning from others. The
third stage, the concrete operational stage, occurs between ages seven and eleven where children begin
to think logically and work things out in their head (McLeod, 2009). It is important to note that this
only applies to physical, concrete concepts. Abstract thinking appears in the final stage, the formal
operational stage, which occurs from age eleven into adulthood. In this stage, children and adults are
able to think abstractly and use reasoning ( Jean Piaget, 2015). All of these stages are based on
humans, particularly children, interacting with their environment and theorizing about the world
around them; advancement through these levels occurs through the interaction of biological factors
and experience, through a mechanism he called equilibrium ( Jean Piaget, 2015). Piaget paid no mind
to the role of social interaction and the importance of learning from others in intellectual development
and this is the key area where he differs from

Anti Warfare Counterinsurgency Manual Version
Sendero Luminoso is an insurgent organization whose goal is the seizure of power to implement
communism in Peru, to this end, it uses revolutionary violence (terrorism, sabotage and guerrilla
warfare). The 1989 Peruvian Army ME 41 7, Non Conventional Warfare Counterinsurgency Manual
version was the unique official military source that detailed the SL ideology, doctrine, organization,
structure, tactics, techniques, and procedures used by this terrorist group; however, SL has changed,

The Contribution of American Women to the Abolitionist...
The Abolitionist Movement changed the course of the nation. In addition to the eventual emancipation
of slaves, it transformed the role of women in American History. During the Abolitionist Movement, it
was thought that the duties of women were confined within the home (Boylan 363). While most
women of the time agreed with this statement, there were many who did not. This change of attitude
started during the Great Awakening (Baker 623). Eliza Wilkinson wrote, I won t have it thought that
because we are the weaker sex as to bodily strength we are capable of nothing more than domestic
concerns (Goldfield, et al. 171). During this time, society was against women leaving the home. Many

A racially integrated group of women formed the Boston Female Anti Slavery Society in October of
1833. This was uncommon for the time period. The society was made up of three different social
classes of women, which caused conflict of interest within the society. The different classes were
white, upper class women, white, middle class women, and elite black women. The upper class though
that the middle class were restricting the ideas of the society, while the middle class thought the
aggressive techniques of the upper class women was atrocious (Hansen 46). Upper class white women
used men s tactics like political protest and public action to spread their cause, while middle class
women used church based techniques, while focusing towards the needs of women and children
(Hansen 63).The elite black women were less interested in policy issues and instead advocated
programs that would provide direct care to the black community (Hansen 46). Slavery was thought of
as a sin by many people, causing many women to leave the church over this disagreement (Petrulionis
389). Many of these women in Boston formed the Anti Slavery Society, which became one of the
nation s biggest and most influential. To wash away the sin of slavery, it was customary for a minister
s wife to be the first president of the Boston Anti Slavery Society; Charlotte Phelps was the first to fill

A medical dictionary defines a drug as any substance that when taken into the living organism may
modify one or more of its functions (Newton 12). However, when speaking of drug testing for abuse a
person is usually thinking about illegal drugs or drugs that can alter athletic performance in sporting
events. Mandatory drug testing was not allowed in public schools until June 2002 when the Supreme
Court allowed for public schools to do random drug testing (Carroll 23). This decision allowed for
drug testing in all schools throughout the United States not just for athletes but also students who are
in any activities within the school, for example clubs and competitive events (Carroll 23). Even
though drug testing is now allowed by ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This does not prevent them from exercising their right to the 4th and 14th amendments which refer to
freedom from search and seizures. The Supreme Court has allowed for drug testing in all schools
throughout the U.S. So in this school district they have just put in place an effective and easy way to
prevent drugs within their school system, by putting in place mandatory drug testing for all students
who want to participate in school activities (Scalia).
Over the past couple of years drugs have grown within the younger generations. Nearly one in five
teens have taken prescription medications to get high, according to a recent study by the Partnership
for a Drug Free America (Carroll 23). Most schools that put mandatory drug testing in place are
schools that had, and still have, drug problems within their schools (Yamaguchi). These are few
examples of mandatory drug testing in high schools athletics and why it is needed across the country.
Mandatory drug testing for high school athletes should be required because it decreases drug use in
schools. By having mandatory drug testing in schools the risk for youth becoming addicted to drugs is
lowered. The risk for drugs within a school is lowered when there is mandatory drug testing for
athletes because most drug problems within a school start with steroid use within certain sports in a
high school. Steroids are used to help

The Effect Of Breastfeeding On Ovarian And Breast Cancer...
Introduction
Since some years, there has been fundamental shift in infant nutrition research due to increasing
evidence that the role of early nutrition during this vital period of life has deep biological effects and
has an important consequence both in long and short term health (Fewtrell 2007).
The research that has been done in this area offers strong evidence that human milk feeding decreases
the severity and incidence of a vast range of infectious diseases (Garner 1997). There are many
benefits of breastfeeding reduces the ovarian and breast cancer risks and a reduction in other types of
systemic health such as obesity, overweight, asthma and morbidity. In this way breastfeeding also
becomes one of the main causes of benefits for the mothers (Horta 2013).
In their report, WHO also recommends the exclusive breastfeeding until the infant is six months old.
They further, recommend that the children should consume breastfeeding complemented with food
intake until they are two years old (Horta 2013).
Formula fed vs. Breastfed
The evidence that is present regarding the infant feeding as a risk factor for dental caries in
inconsistent in many ways. The risk regarding dental caries is closely related to carbohydrate content
in breast milk besides the factors that decide the length of contact between the erupted dentition and
the breast milk (Danielsson 2009).
In contrast to formula, breast milk contains breast specific Lactobacilli and other substances that

Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay
Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it being
used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function, some
aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience
throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children right
from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control and
maintain obedience in the classroom.
Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority, and
its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to authority is
necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it quite often
becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel, Crimes of Power
and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of command. Often, higher
authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the scandal at Abu Ghraib. The
American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish, interrogate, and harm the inmates
prior to interrogation. Yet, these soldiers were following the commands of their higher authorities, that
exactly being the United States of America. Obeying the authority can sometimes be perilous,
especially, when one s morals are disrupted. When you are

Comparing Dundee University s Heat Energy Systems And...
Introduction
This report shows the differences and the similarities between Dundee University s heat energy
systems and those that are employed by Hillcrest Housing Association. The main technologies used in
the university are gas fired engines, whereas the Hillcrest building which has a biomass boiler. As far
as models of ownership are concerned, the University has established a wholly owned operating
company DUUSCo to undertake the Project. While, although owned by Hillcrest the biomass system
is operated and maintained under a 10 year agreement by Angus Biofuels who sell the energy to
Hillcrest. Finally, comparing the risks associated with security of energy delivery we can say that they
are similar. Even if the two heating systems are different, both of them had the same goal, reducing the
energy used and achieve low energy consumption. And move a step closer to sustainable and zero
carbon buildings. An explanation of zero carbon meaning is given.
Technologies used in Hillcrest and Dundee University
Hillcrest Housing Association (Appendix A) building uses for heating, except for the orientation and

Akbar Research Paper
The Mughal dynasty was established by a man named Babur who ruled over the state of Hindustan
(India). As a youth, Babur, a prince of the house of Timur, was unable to maintain his sovereignty over
the small Central Asian state bequeathed to him by his father (Source?). Instead, he turned his
attention to the southeast, where he occupied Kabul in 1504, and almost immediately embarked on his
conquest of India (Source?). By 1527, Babur had defeated both the forces of the Lodi sultan and those
of the Hindu confederacy (Source?). However, at the time of his death, in 1530, he had not yet
transformed his territorial acquisitions into an empire (Source?). This task was left to his son
Humayun, who lacked the military genius of his father and soon forfeited the Mughal foothold in
India (Source?). Only through Persian military intervention did he manage to regain the capital cities
of Agra and Delhi in 1555; however, Humayun s son Akbar was credited with the real foundation of
the Mughal Empire (Source?).
During his reign from 1556 to 1605, Akbar established dominion over northern and central India, as
far east as Bengal. He secured the northwestern frontier, which served as a gateway to India for so
many previous invasions. Akbar s most important territorial gain was the sultanate of Gujarat, in the
west, which provided the Mughal empire with enormous wealth from its commercial centers, and
access to the Arabian Sea. This presented an opportunity for lucrative trade with both

How Did Shakespeare Attack On Sydney Harbour
Attack on Sydney Harbour The threat of a Japanese invasion was thought to be imminent for Australia
after the fall of Singapore. Darwin had been crippled by a series of Japanese air raids. In May 1942,
Japanese Midget submarines were spotted in Sydney Harbour, posing a direct threat of attack or
invasion. The presence of Japanese submarines in Sydney Harbour caused alarm in the residents of
Sydney and the Australian defence forces. Again, Australia was unprepared to defend against Japanese
incursions. When did it happen 31 May 1 June 1942 What happened there On the night three Japanese
midget submarines attacked Sydney Harbour. They were launched from a group of five larger
submarines waiting off the Heads. All three midget submarines were lost, with two of them destroyed

Persuasive Essay On Plastic Tax
Adding a 25 cent charge towards plastic bags would be a mistake. I am against the idea that our state
should consider the idea of adding the charge because it could lead to other issues. I believe that we
don t have to pay for the bags now, so what difference does it make if we decide to add the tax?
Adding the tax will cause issues for those who use plastic bags, cause paper bags to become more
popular, and cause a high demand in reusable bags. A bag tax that could assist in the affair, but isn t
necessary and should not be added. I don t believe that the tax on plastic bags can solve the issues that
are caused by people who are careless. Punishing those who use plastic bags isn t fair when they might
not even be the ones who are causing the controversy. Adding a bag tax is not going to help us in any
way.
Adding the 25 cent charge bag tax would be a mistake because it will cause issues for people who use
plastic bags. I understand that adding the tax will allow people to realize that plastic bags have
become an issue for our environment. But adding the tax to those who use plastic isn t fair when they
would rather have plastic to use around the house instead of having to worry about paper bags or
remembering to bring along with them reusable bags to the store. I don t find it fair to only tax those
who wish to use plastic bags. Industires who produce plastic bags can make them very efficiently, as
they are produced on a daily schedule. As they are easier to produce, they

Armed Rebel Group Research Paper
Suicide bombers, rebel groups, minefield clearers, and soldiers are words used to describe these
children in a terrible situation. In places like Afghanistan, Iran, and Guantanamo Bay children as
young as 5 years old are apprehended from their families, and are taken to army camps to fight against
the U.S backed government. These children are so innocent, but many think that they need to be

These kids are in no condition for fighting in armed rebel groups but the numbers of these kids are
starting to go up. Over 8,000 children are fighting in armed rebel groups, battling the U.S backed

Turkey faces a difficult choice to reject the offer as too half hearted, or accept it even though the terms

Politics In George Orwell s Politics And The English Language
Politics in today s day and age is slippery and redundant. Terms like fake news and alternative facts
have been used to describe the manipulation of language. George Orwell s essay Politics and the
English Language analyzes many examples of literature and explains why they are bad, why they are
influential, and how easily language can be manipulated. Plato s Allegory of the Cave touches on the
interaction between the ignorant and the wise. Referring to Orwell and Plato s writings, this essay will
analyze the current political state. Language is being used in a negative connotation which is
frequently occurring in today s politics. No one knows everything. In Plato s, Allegory of the Cave ,
the reader is introduced to an analogy referring to a common reaction of the ignorant toward wisdom.
In the story, prisoners are held in captivity and unable to see anything else other than shadows on the
wall (989). This represents modern day civilization and refers to the ignorant ignorance toward
politics, history, general truths, etc. Life as an ignorant prisoner from Plato s analogy consist of
playing a game to pass the time a game that includes watching as the shadows of wiser and better well
off living beings are cast on the wall (989). Modern civilization is constantly listening and looking
toward politicians whom cast a shadow, deciding the laws and methods of protection in which
civilians abide. It would be shocking if something foreign, such as an alien from outer

European Expansion And Chinese Decline In The 1400s
European Expansion and Chinese Decline in the 1400 s Describing China s influence as massive
would be an understatement. For centuries, China had been the world s superpower, in terms of
technological growth, financial security, and military might. By the end of the 1400 s however, that
title had been transferred to Europe. A continent once exclusively known for its now fallen Roman
Empire suddenly proves to be the primary actor on the global stage. To this very day, historians argue
over a deceptively simple question: what changed? A series of political power struggles, threats from
the North, and financial instability drove China back from its former glory, while Europe used the
existing Silk Road and Indian Ocean trading systems to launch their success. Historians attempt to
simplify the fall the fall of China. Often, the dismantling of the treasure fleet is pointed out as the
culprit. In the early 1400s, there were 3,500 vessels in China s fleet; by 1440, that number had been
drastically reduced (Levathes 174). Some historians refer to the event as the single greatest foreign
policy blunder in history. Such a statement is a gross over exaggeration. The treasure fleet fell as a
symptom, not a cause, of a failing China. After the death of emperor Zhu Zhanji in 1435, China fell
victim to a political power struggle between two warring factions: the eunuchs and the Confucians
(Levathes 175). Zhu Zhanji ruled with an iron fist, and kept both parties in check. He held

Itemized Deduction Advantages
One kind of itemized deduction is interest earned from either a home mortgage or an investment.
However, you can t do this completely freely. With your mortgage, the interest that qualifies needs to
come from the first $1 million borrowed. This is why most people can qualify for this kind of
deduction. You re also allowed two residences as one taxpayer. This kind of deduction also includes
home equity loans so long as the loan doesn t exceed $100,000. Another kind of itemized deduction
takes the form of many different taxes. When you do this, you can only itemize taxes from the year
that you file for. You can also deduct local and state income taxes, which is a major advantage behind
itemizing. Also, if you own your house, you can itemize the property taxes on it. ... Show more

The Superfluous Men By Ivan Turgenev
The superfluous men is a concept in Russian literature meaning characters behavior or philosophy of
values in the society that go against existing social norms. They alienated from the surrounding
environment, struggle to hold their own beliefs, and duel with conflicts of society or within the self.
The intent of this paper, therefore, is to analyze three characters who are described in the three stories,
which can be termed as superfluous men, regarding both psychological and physical dueling.
In the novel, Fathers and Children, draws most prolific aspects in the center of literature field
especially concerning the phenomenon of superfluous man as presented by the author Ivan Turgenev.
The main character in the book, Bazarov, brings a new philosophy known as nihilism into the
community, which conflicts with the beliefs, tradition, and interest of the Russian society in the
nineteenth century. Bazarov is well versed in philosophical arguments that all go against the social
status quo, and aspires to dedicate himself to the study of biology. Moreover, he sadly infuriates Pavel
with his philosophy of nihilism. Bazarov is starting a duel by telling Pavel his beliefs meaning nothing
and faith is useless. In response, Pavel defends the Russian traditions of religious belief, faith, and
superior morals. Pavel states It holds tradition sacred; it s a patriarchal people and can t live without
faith... (Turgenev, 40). At this point, the argument begins from the debate of

Changes in Customary Land Administration and Building Synergy in Pluralistic Institutional
Environment in Sub Sahara Africa: Examining the Impact of the Land Administration Projects (LAP)

Research Background and Problem
Plurality of institutions is a unique feature of the land administration system in Africa. This system is
characterized by the operations of traditional landholding institutions that have been in existence and
has been holding land time immemorial on ground of ancestry together with statutory established
formal land agencies that is required to complement efforts of the former. Traditional institutions in

It is argued that multiple institutional and legal structures could bring about contradictions and
insecurity regarding whose rights count, whose rights will be supported in the event of a contest, and
which decision making structures are paramount resulting in institution shopping (Toulmin, 2009). In
Ghana, the pluralism systems are poorly articulated and has been the cause of growing contradiction
and conflict (Kasanga and Kotey, 2001). This can be substantiated by studies from Yeboah and Shaw
(2011) that find the traditional institutions are making makeshift plans in order to sell lands even
without the knowledge of the appropriate planning authority. Also, Biitir and Nara (2016) finds that
land governance in Ghana is hampered by lack of cooperation and collaboration between these
institutions. The state of the pure distinct operations of the customary and statutory land tenure
institutions therefore denies synergistic effect (Cousin and Hornby, 2005).
In the wake of the aforementioned factors and address resulting problems, previous and present
governments of Ghana have made attempts to streamline the system through land policies and
projects. The Land Administration Projects (LAP) is currently being implemented (Government of
Ghana, 2008). This

What goes through the minds of people when they think about trophy hunting? Hunting is the act of
pursuing and killing live animals for food, recreation, or trade. Early human civilizations relied on
hunting for subsistence. As humans and civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a sport
rather than a necessity. People who are for hunting claim that it helps control wildlife populations,
whereas people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of certain animals.
This paper will examine viewpoint one, two, and my viewpoint on trophy hunting being banned or
not.
To begin with, viewpoint one believes trophy hunting serves no purpose and is contributing to the
eradication of species. For starters, grizzly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the animal killed.
Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the rainforest. For example, David
Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon, into
the rainforest. This leaves the carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the salmon
for the fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms more than just
the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise in hunting, leading to more
animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard Emslie and Michael Knight report that pseudo
hunters would get permits to hunt rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a temporary peak in hunting
applications (Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal markets to pop up, in which
caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing threats without hunters. To
illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already face threats from habitat loss, damage
and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon collapse and climate change; and death from poaching.
Hence, hunting only furthers problems animals have. For all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming
the environment and other animals, plus the ones they are

A Brief Note On The Integrated Business Operations
Task 1
1.1
Integrated business operations: A business which is a combination of two or more business operations
but runs as a single business unit. Bose speakers is one of its examples
Single product or service operations: Single product operations focus on a single service operation,
having their targets clear and set, they are supposed to have more profits than integrated business
operations, one of its example is Hallenstein Brothers.
Manufacturing and wholesale: These kind of franchisees sell the basic product to wholesalers and
wholesalers sell it to the retailers or sometimes to the customers as well, Coca Cola is a best suited
example for it.
Manufacturing and retail: Franchisees are given the right to sell the product of main franchisor, rules
are set and both the manufacturer and retailer have to abide to these rules. Adidas is one of its
examples.
Wholesale and retail: Small retailers buy the products from wholesalers to sell these products in their
shops. Dairy shops are best suited examples for this kind of franchisee.
Retail Product: Franchisees offering tangible goods made by their main franchisor.
Retail Service: Franchisees in order to increase their profit introduce some new services which help
increasing number of customers for the shop and increasing the profit for both the franchisor and
franchisee.
1.2
Franchising is a long term cooperative relationship between two entities a Franchisor and a
Franchisee, (NZNC, 2015) they both work on a

Christian Persecution
Christian Persecution Christians are being persecuted for their faith in more than the forty nations
around world today. In some nations, it is illegal to own a Bible, to share one s faith in Christ, and
even teach one s children about Jesus Christ. Those who boldly follow Christ, in spite of government
decree or opposition, can face harassment, arrest, torture and even death. Dr. Nhia Vang Vang, the
pastor of the First Hmong Alliance Church in Longview, NC, mentioned that Christianity has been
persecuted for over 2000 years up until now. However, more Christians have been arrested, harassed,
and persecuted in this century than in the previous nineteen combined (Vang). Christian persecution is
a world wide problem, having an effect ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Pastor Bike (Pastor Zhang Mingxuan) is a missionary who travels across China on a bicycle to spread
the news of Jesus Christ. He was arrested by the Chinese officials on August 6, 2008; just two days
after the Olympics began. ( Olympic ). Mingxuan was tortured and interrogated in prison countless
times. However, regardless of the harassment by the Chinese officials, Pastor Bike continued to win
several lives for Jesus Christ. The numbers of Christian martyrs are increasing by the year, yet
Christians continue to meet for worship and the church in restricted nations are still growing. People
who are willing to sacrifice everything, including their lives, for the sake of spreading the gospel
throughout the world are given the name Jesus Freaks. Many Christians are abused and harassed by
officials or mobs who attempt to force Christians to renounce their faith. In Chiapas, Mexico, a
Christian family was attacked by a mob; killing Pedro, his wife and his son. Six of the other children
were left seriously wounded. ( Christian ). There are many more cases such as these occurring even
now. The list of Christian persecution is endless; several people suffer much more due to their faith.
These Jesus Freaks are continuously victimized and attacked, yet their love for Jesus Christ gives

  • 2. My Korean Adoption The last personal narrative that, in a way, continues where the last left off, is a trip that I took with a group of other adoptees to Korea over the summer of my freshman year. Being the first time I had visited my birth country since infancy I was undeniably nervous, not knowing what exactly what to expect. The fact that I was travelling with other children in my own unique cultural situation, many of whom were fluent in the native language, however, gave me great comfort in venturing outside my personal realm of familiarity. Easing my transition into the foreign land, many of them willingly offered their assistance whenever I was struggling to communicate or comprehend information. Within the small group of my peers in the program, I felt ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Just as Malcolm X who had shed his personal attire for traditional white towels in an environment where you could be a king or a peasant and no one would know , I had temporarily stripped myself of my external Western context by entering a setting that would see superficially not as an adopted girl with white parents, but as an indistinguishable Korean. (Malcolm X 371) At first, when I was guarded by the cover provided by peers, I embraced this sense of unity from a distance, indulging in the fact that nobody notably labeled me as different based on my physical appearance. However, as Malcolm X s travels show, no matter how hard you try, it is impossible to completely discard of your primary context when venturing into previously unexplored territories. For me, this revelation became clearly evident when I was forcibly removed from my veil of collective solidarity when physically separated from my friend group. While Malcolm X wrestled with standing out as a foreigner despite his role as Muslim minister back home, I struggled heavily with establishing an identity due to my inability to speak the Korean language. In this way, I faced the same sort of grappling with a double consciousness that can often be seen manifested in the complex struggle of African American in their quest for ... Essay about Article 92 Article 92 Good order and Military discipline: The Disciplinary Regulations of the United States Army define military discipline as a strict and honorable compliance by all servicemen with the order and rules prescribed by laws, military regulations and orders of commanders (superiors). Military discipline is a special form of military relations. Its specifics lie in coordinating the conduct and actions of military personnel and in serving to establish such relations as are required for successful joint activity. The conduct of servicemen is regulated by special rules and standards of behavior set forth in laws, military regulations and orders of commanders (superiors) and reflecting the specific features of the military ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All enlistees, both as personalities and members of definite service and public structures (including those with a negative impact on discipline), their relations and degree of activity form in the aggregate the disciplinary system of an element (unit). Psychological support for troops has emerged as a necessity because this kind of work can deal, to a considerable extent, with a set of specific psychological problems arising within disciplinary systems at all levels, not the lower echelons alone, as is often believed. Occasionally it is just the matter of an enlistee being unprepared for discipline abiding lifestyle (ignorance of army regulations, orders and regulatory documents). Sometimes, however, psychological problems stem from clearly expressed anti disciplinary attitudes in some or other serviceman, which attitudes tend to disorganize military activities, mixing, and off duty routine. Two groups of disciplinary psychological problems are identified. First, inadequacy (weakness, instability, incompleteness, and unfinished nature) of individual, group or organizational mechanisms for normative behavior and control thereof as is revealed by practice; certain enlistees lack the required disciplinary motivation and/or they cannot behave in an organized way in conformity with the regulations, rules, laws, and military traditions. Military command and control agencies, for their part, do not have enough energy and skills to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 6. Comparable Worth Introduction: The debate in this study is that of whether or not to use comparable worth as the basis for future pay adjustments. Comparable worth, as defined by Merriam Webster, is the concept that women and men should receive equal pay for jobs calling for comparable skill and responsibility or that is of comparable worth to the employer. To further expand on this, the term comparable worth describes the idea that gender biased jobs should be reanalyzed to determine their worth to an employer. In theory, the goal of comparable worth is to raise wages for traditionally female biased jobs to the level of those for comparable male biased jobs. Comparable worth should not be confused with equal pay for equal work. Comparable worth ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Therefore, different job evaluation systems and different job evaluators are likely to assign different rankings to the same set of occupations. Recommendations: After careful consideration of the relevant facts of this case, my recommendation would be to deny the request of future wage adjustments based upon comparable worth. This recommendation is being made in light of several key factors. The first factor is that under comparable worth, employers would be required to set wages to reflect differences in the worth of jobs, with worth largely determined by job evaluation studies, not by market forces. This sounds good in theory, however, it will put the organization at a distinct disadvantage. According to Ann Barres, The size of a worker s paycheck would be unrelated to supply/demand conditions in the labor market. Therefore comparative worth could artificially inflate wages in some jobs and thereby attracting more people than the market could absorb. Any radical restructuring of pay scales would place an unfair burden on employers by raising their costs, and would unfairly impinge upon their freedom to earn their livelihood as they choose(2). On the other hand if there was a shortage of workers in one job, the employers hands would be tied as they could not raise the wages as to attract more applicants. The next issue is that of determining comparative worth. Given the large number and diversity of jobs being rated, it is unlikely that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 8. Critical Analysis Of The Movie Hunger Games In this essay, I will do a critical analysis of the movie Hunger Games, the short story The Story of an Hour, and Taylor Swift s music video Look What You Make Me Do in terms of the use of symbolism, and the new self. The Hunger Games follows 16 year old Katniss Everdeen, a girl from District 12 who volunteers for the 74th Hunger Games in place of her younger sister Primrose Everdeen. The games itself is a competition to see who s the strongest. They were once very important by the Capitol until the rebels caught on and started feeding the jabberjays false info. Katniss s Mockingjay pin, symbolizes a creature with a spirit of its own. As hybrid creatures that have broken free of the control of the Capitol, they suggest the inability of the Capitol to enforce their power over all living creatures. These birds are signs of resistance and rebellion. As Katniss says, they re something of a slap in the face to the Capitol. In many ways, Katniss herself is very much like a Mockingjay and will come to identify the bird. This movie can also be analyzed with Lacan s theory of new self. Katniss was forced to live in an unfair city, yet she managed to contain her identity throughout the games. Food, for example, is a metaphor in the trilogy for another kind of sustenance, the sustenance provided by an inner conviction of one s own worth and integrity. (Man cannot live by bread alone.) • 9. The World On The Terrorism When looking at the terrorism that ISIS has endued it has become very evident that a solution needs to be drawn into action. In my opinion the only way to take down this organization is to begin to treat it like the state that it is. A state is defined as: a nation or territory considered as an organized political community under one government. ISIS has not only gained territory in Syria, Iraq and Istanbul but according to New York Times columnist, Tim Arango, ISIS is building a capacity to govern. In 2014, ISIS formally informed the world on their establishment of a caliphate. This caliphate is governed under Islamic beliefs and rulers. They have begun issuing identification cards for residents, promulgating fishing guidelines to preserve stocks, and requiring that cars carry tool kits for emergencies (Arango). Believe it or not, ISIS has been a state for two years, regardless of their lack of legitimacy, their consistent threat of violence against any of those who oppose their beliefs allows them not only to get things done, but get them done efficiently. Whether we want to accept it, ISIS is a state, and we need to treat it as such. On the 29th of June in 2014, ISIS announced that a caliphate has been establish and the caliph was to be Caliph Ibrahim. The saying goes, In order to kill a snake, one must cut off its head. The head of ISIS is the caliphate in Iraq/Syria. I believe that collapsing the caliphate will collapse the organization. I have a proposed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Having had firsthand experience in the immigration transition system, it has been captivating to hear in the news about the Executive Order Obama issued on November 20, 2014. Seeing families getting separated, violence raising in the Mexican border, and the increasing Latin population in the U.S. signaled the need for this Executive Order in immigrant communities. Ancient Egypt And Western Asia ARTS2281 Ancient Egypt and Western Asia Draft Essay 2014 Semester 2 Done By: Calvin Lee (z3442576) Thesis Statement During the old kingdom, Ma at was part of the peoples everyday life, was not just a false façade and advocated social justice and equality. Introduction Ma at s concept combines numerous factors that assume a complete disassociation in Egyptian imaginary. Ma at forms the basis for understanding the civilization of Egypt in its entirety and longevity. Just like Ma at, duality marks the history of Egypt whereby from the ancient philosophies of the Egyptians to their politics; duality premise has been the order of the day. The application of this duality helped them unite distinct cultures, while its recognition helped them to form a lasting civilization that had never been experienced before. In terms of religion, this dual nature remains by no means as clear as in Ma at. Thus, the dual nature of Ma at may be revealed in an intangible idea that embraces order, justice and balance, as well as an anthropomorphic goddess. As the other cultures faced challenges in explaining Ma at concept through the use of multiple terms, the Egyptians used a single term, an aspect that provided a practical and positive distinct order principle. Through the Egyptians literature; religious literature, instructional or even an epic story, revelation of the different faces of Ma at remains evident. In this sense, Ma at was more than just a goddess or a concept as it personified a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

My freshman year in high school, I had English class with an esteemed teacher, Mr. Broza hailed as the Paul D. Schreiber High School Shakespeare aficionado, founder of Schreiber s Annual Shakespeare Day, and, perhaps most heart warming of all, a self proclaimed Shakespeare lover whose posters of The Bard could be found as wallpaper in his small office. How lucky I thought I was. Indeed, if I wanted to appreciate Hamlet, I was in the right hands. But how misled I actually was at least, in Walker Percy s eyes. After sitting by a tree and reading the text front to back, perhaps then I would be able to see Shakespeare in Percy s sense of the word. Percy s noble task is to open our minds to the possibility that we are not the masters of what we know that, in part, what we know and what we see, when approached passively, have a lot more to do with preformed symbolic complex than with ourselves (512). Percy s exploration achieves one of the main goals of all philosophy to change the way we think about things. He changes the meaning of many concepts human beings tend to take for granted. Sight is no longer the mere act of seeing, but a struggle, an act of understanding and appreciation (523). Sovereignty, in relation to things, is no longer some abstract concept of power, but an ability to interpret for oneself (517). Education or perhaps more specifically, its dynamic is reshaped, for it is no longer a passive act (i.e. being taught to ) but an action that relies much more upon the student, who may have the greatest difficulty in salvaging the creature itself from the educational package in which it is presented (519). These concept alterations are thus meant to alter our reality; they aim to help us rediscover in art what he calls in his opening paragraph an island, Formosa. He began his life with a concentration in the natural sciences, particularly the subject of mollusks, and later developed an interest in cognitive theory ( Jean Piaget Biography, n.d.). His subsequent research and findings greatly influenced the field of developmental psychology, particularly childhood cognitive development theory. Piaget s four developmental stages stressed the importance of a child s interaction with their environment. The first stage, the sensorimotor stage, encompasses the first two years of a child s life where they use their senses to explore the world around them. The second stage, the preoperational stage, occurs between ages two and seven, where children develop symbolic thought. Symbolic thought is a type of thinking in which symbols or internal images are used to represent objects, persons, and events that are not present ( Symbolic Thought, n.d.). Again, children develop this type of thought through activities such as make believe play, rather than social learning from others. The third stage, the concrete operational stage, occurs between ages seven and eleven where children begin to think logically and work things out in their head (McLeod, 2009). It is important to note that this only applies to physical, concrete concepts. Abstract thinking appears in the final stage, the formal operational stage, which occurs from age eleven into adulthood. In this stage, children and adults are able to think abstractly and use reasoning ( Jean Piaget, 2015). All of these stages are based on humans, particularly children, interacting with their environment and theorizing about the world around them; advancement through these levels occurs through the interaction of biological factors and experience, through a mechanism he called equilibrium ( Jean Piaget, 2015). Introduction Since some years, there has been fundamental shift in infant nutrition research due to increasing evidence that the role of early nutrition during this vital period of life has deep biological effects and has an important consequence both in long and short term health (Fewtrell 2007). • 23. Authority Is A Fundamental Part Of Life Essay Authority is a fundamental part of life. It is utilized in both micro and macro ways, such as it being used in a particular group of individuals or a mass society. In order for society to function, some aspect of authority is required. Police officers use authority to maintain order and obedience throughout communities. Parents possess characteristics of authority in order to teach children right from wrong. As well as, teachers are considered authority figures since they need to control and maintain obedience in the classroom. Authority cannot exist without obedience. Society is developed on this notion. Without authority, and its required obedience, disorder and disruption would occur. But how much obedience to authority is necessary? When is it too much or too little? Authority figures hold such power, that it quite often becomes abused. We can relate back to these questions by looking into the novel, Crimes of Power and States of Impunity , and connecting it with the element of the chain of command. Often, higher authority individuals abuse their powers, just like those involved in the scandal at Abu Ghraib. The American Soldiers were ambiguously declaring to torture, punish, interrogate, and harm the inmates prior to interrogation. Terms like fake news and alternative facts have been used to describe the manipulation of language. George Orwell s essay Politics and the English Language analyzes many examples of literature and explains why they are bad, why they are influential, and how easily language can be manipulated. Plato s Allegory of the Cave touches on the interaction between the ignorant and the wise. Referring to Orwell and Plato s writings, this essay will analyze the current political state. Language is being used in a negative connotation which is frequently occurring in today s politics. No one knows everything. In Plato s, Allegory of the Cave , the reader is introduced to an analogy referring to a common reaction of the ignorant toward wisdom. In the story, prisoners are held in captivity and unable to see anything else other than shadows on the wall (989). This represents modern day civilization and refers to the ignorant ignorance toward politics, history, general truths, etc. Life as an ignorant prisoner from Plato s analogy consist of playing a game to pass the time a game that includes watching as the shadows of wiser and better well off living beings are cast on the wall (989). • 35. European Expansion And Chinese Decline In The 1400s European Expansion and Chinese Decline in the 1400 s Describing China s influence as massive would be an understatement. For centuries, China had been the world s superpower, in terms of technological growth, financial security, and military might. By the end of the 1400 s however, that title had been transferred to Europe. A continent once exclusively known for its now fallen Roman Empire suddenly proves to be the primary actor on the global stage. To this very day, historians argue over a deceptively simple question: what changed? A series of political power struggles, threats from the North, and financial instability drove China back from its former glory, while Europe used the existing Silk Road and Indian Ocean trading systems to launch their success. Historians attempt to simplify the fall the fall of China. Often, the dismantling of the treasure fleet is pointed out as the culprit. In the early 1400s, there were 3,500 vessels in China s fleet; by 1440, that number had been drastically reduced (Levathes 174). Some historians refer to the event as the single greatest foreign policy blunder in history. Such a statement is a gross over exaggeration. The treasure fleet fell as a symptom, not a cause, of a failing China. After the death of emperor Zhu Zhanji in 1435, China fell victim to a political power struggle between two warring factions: the eunuchs and the Confucians (Levathes 175). It is argued that multiple institutional and legal structures could bring about contradictions and insecurity regarding whose rights count, whose rights will be supported in the event of a contest, and which decision making structures are paramount resulting in institution shopping (Toulmin, 2009). In Ghana, the pluralism systems are poorly articulated and has been the cause of growing contradiction and conflict (Kasanga and Kotey, 2001). This can be substantiated by studies from Yeboah and Shaw (2011) that find the traditional institutions are making makeshift plans in order to sell lands even without the knowledge of the appropriate planning authority. Also, Biitir and Nara (2016) finds that land governance in Ghana is hampered by lack of cooperation and collaboration between these institutions. The state of the pure distinct operations of the customary and statutory land tenure institutions therefore denies synergistic effect (Cousin and Hornby, 2005). In the wake of the aforementioned factors and address resulting problems, previous and present governments of Ghana have made attempts to streamline the system through land policies and projects. Early human civilizations relied on hunting for subsistence. As humans and civilizations evolved, so did hunting. Hunting became a sport rather than a necessity. People who are for hunting claim that it helps control wildlife populations, whereas people against it believe that trophy hunting will lead to the extinction of certain animals. This paper will examine viewpoint one, two, and my viewpoint on trophy hunting being banned or not. To begin with, viewpoint one believes trophy hunting serves no purpose and is contributing to the eradication of species. For starters, grizzly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Specifically, trophy hunting could harm the environment and the entire species of the animal killed. Firstly, grizzly bears help the environment and other animals in the rainforest. For example, David Suzuki talks about how grizzlies bring salmon, along with nutrients from the ocean in the salmon, into the rainforest. This leaves the carcass of the salmon for other animals and the nutrients in the salmon for the fertilization of the rainforest (Suzuki). Therefore, trophy hunting grizzlies harms more than just the one bear the hunter killed. Secondly, illegal markets caused a rise in hunting, leading to more animals being killed to be sold. For instance, Richard Emslie and Michael Knight report that pseudo hunters would get permits to hunt rhinos and sell their horns. This caused a temporary peak in hunting applications (Emslie). Therefore, the hunting of animals caused illegal markets to pop up, in which caused more people to hunt. Thirdly, some animals are already facing threats without hunters. To illustrate, Suzuki, talking about grizzly bears, says they already face threats from habitat loss, damage and fragmentation; cascading effects of salmon collapse and climate change; and death from poaching. Hence, hunting only furthers problems animals have. For all these reasons, trophy hunting is harming the environment and other animals, plus the ones they are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
