Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees
There is nothing perfect, August said from the doorway. There is only life (Kidd 256). This quote from
The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd explains Lily Owens life, a young girl with an unloving
father and a mother who abandoned her and was later shot and killed by her own daughter, Lily. Lily
has a hard time finding her place in the world and understanding why her life is the way it is. She
decides it is time for her to take charge of her own life. She finds herself in Tiburon, South Carolina
with her nanny Rosaleen and three black women, August, June and May who unravel the story to her
mother s past. Lily s story can be seen in different layers, the most significant layers are the religious,
thematic and symbolic layers. These three layers are essential when trying to gain understanding of
The Secret Life of Bees. In The Secret Life of bees you can learn a lot from the thematic layer. Three
salient themes in this layer are forgiveness, hope and strength. Hope is shown when Zach talks to Lily
about becoming a lawyer one day, I ve just never heard of a Negro lawyer, that s all. You ve got to
hear of these things before you can imagine them Bullshit. You gotta imagine what s never been (Kidd
121). Zach has hope that one day he will become a lawyer despite his skin color and what everyone
else says about it. He doesn t give up because of what society thinks, he stays hopeful. During this
time period African Americans had to keep hope that one day the racism

Urban Sprawl And New Urbanism
Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism In the modern world, human civilization has seen many changes
from earlier points in our history. In the more developed countries in the world, human civilization is
broken up into two main categories known as Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism . In the interactive,
Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism are broken down into five main branches: Regional Transportation,
Parking, Street Plans, Shops, Civic Buildings, Workplaces, and Residential Distribution. These
branches reflect many of the places that we live in and see every day, and explains their purpose in
depth. Regional Transportation in New Urbanism includes mass transit that is of easy access to the
people that live within the vicinity. The public transportation in New Urbanism is meant to carry large
amounts of people at once such as light rail busses, and subways in order to get them to their
destination quickly to minimize the amount of time it takes them to get where they need to go since
the commutes are fairly short. This also cuts down on car trips since the busses and subways are
within walking distance, and provides people with more time for family and community life, and can
even bring low income workers to suburbs where there are many jobs. In terms of Urban Sprawl,
many businesses, shops, and jobs are not within a close distance, and as a result, many have to drive
themselves to their destinations. A vast amount of people rely on highways to get to wherever they
need to go, and

What Are The Causes Of Appeasement
The Holocaust became possible when the Allies neglected to prevent Germany s manslaughter. Both
America and Britain sat idle as Germany committed genocide, with only their own interests in mind.
The United States adopted Isolationism in hope of fixing their own dilemma instead of aiding the
suffering. Britain handed over millions of lives to save the lives of their own people. Their
abandonment of the Holocaust victims led to the ability to lead out the mass murder of millions of
innocent people. After a finacial high in 1920 s, America fell into the Great Depression. It left millions
of Americans jobless and living on the streets. Their financial situation coaxed U.S. citizens that only
domestic issues were important. This state of mind ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Neville is best known for the appeasement, the Munich Contract, he made with Hitler. The concept of
an appeasement can be traced back to World War I, between the French and British. It was made
because both sides were not ready for war. Both France and Britain generated a strong desire to
achieve peace at any price (). The appeasement between the two countries settled the war and they
achieved peace. Chamberlain wanted its peace from Germany, so he decided that an appeasement
could satisfy both sides. British politicians at the time feared that communism had a larger threat than
fascism at the time, and many of the politicians admired the way Mussolini and Hitler ran their
countries. This allowed the British government to allow Chamberlain to make a pact without much
consideration on the affects of it. Together, Neville and Hitler made the Munich Pact, which gave
Hitler parts of Czechoslovakia. After signing the contract, Chamberlain met Hitler without contacting
the Czech authoritans and agreed to allow Hitler to have all areas in Sudetenland with more than a
50% German population. An unsatisfied Hitler demanded all of Sudetenland, and Britain and France
agreed to satisfy his demand. Chamberlain believed he had made peace with Germany and Britain was
safe. Soon enough, Hitler broke the pact and was invading other parts of Czechoslovakia and Poland.
This launched Britain into WWII. After Hitler broke the pact, Winston Churchill replaced
Chamberlain after he was fired because of his pact. Before he became Prime Minister, Churchill
opposed the appeasement. He warned his fellow British politicians of the danger the Japanese,
Italians, and the Germans

Badger Cheese Club
What qualities do you feel make you a good fit for this position? I like to get involved with different
organizations on campus, but I only like to take leadership roles in organizations that I am very
passionate about. I have enjoyed my time in this club and I want to make sure that it continues to run
at the high standards that the members have come to expect.
What would you do to make Badger Cheese Club even better than it is? I think it is at a great point
now but there might be some things going forward that make it even better. The first thing is retention
of members. The first meeting is always so crowded but then attendance maybe falls off after that.

It is necessary for exec board members to work together to create this great club. Talk about an
experience where you worked in a team and pursued a common goal; what kind of team member
would you consider yourself? I am currently on the board of my fraternity serving as the secretary.
Every week we have a meeting of the board to discuss problems and try to find solutions going
forward. In this setting I learned the importance of listening more than speaking. I wanted to take
more of a leadership and commanding role in the meeting, but the board has seven people and each
one should get a chance to speak. Recently one of our goals was to improve our education program

Informative Essay On Drunk Driving
By: Madison Dennis, Lauren Beard, Adam Davis
DUI
DUI stats tell a story that we ve all heard before. Yet people still continue to get behind a wheel when
they have been drinking or have drank too much. Why is this?
According to the FBI over 1.4 million drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of
alcohol in 2010. That just represents only 1% of 112 million adults in the U.S that impair alcohol
driving each year. Facts
Some facts about DUI are about one in three people will be involved in a drunk driving crash during
their lifetime. Everyday, 28 people die from drunk driving or from DUI. Did you know in 2010,
10,228 people died from people drunk driving? One every 52 minutes. Also 345,000 people were
injured. In 2010 again, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That s crazy! Of all the traffic deaths among children of ages 14 and younger most were involved by
an alcohol impaired driver.
Vehicles Involved In Drunk Driving Crashes
Now, did you ever think of what kind of vehicle these drunk drivers were involved in fatal crashes
were? Well the percentage of drivers with a BAC level of 0.08 or higher was 28% for motorcycles,
22% for drivers of a light truck, 23% for passengers, and the lowest was 2% for large trucks.
What is a DUI?
Have you ever wondered what a DUI is? Or what it stands for? Well, a DUI is short for Driving Under
the Influence. A misdemeanor is driving under the influence charges means that the charge involved

Strengths And Weaknesses Of Feedback In Education
My job as an educator is to meet the needs of the students in my class. The chapters I read reminded
me of the importance of differentiating for the wide variety of needs in my classroom. It is essential
that I differentiate the content, process, and product on a regular basis. Sometimes I overthink
differentiated instruction, making it too complicated in my head. Carol Ann Tomlinson (2001)
specifically reminded me that differentiation can be successfully accomplished by all teachers through
both low preparation methods and high preparation methods. When a classroom s instruction is
differentiated, teachers sometimes have questions about how grading may be different than a
traditional classroom. Because of reading the above mentioned literature, I now have a greater
awareness of formative assessments, rubrics, and building mutual understandings of grading practices
among teachers. Formative assessment is meant to be used regularly to provide students with feedback
about how they can continue to improve and grow as a learner and to inform a teacher s next step
instructionally. The most valuable idea I took away from the literature was the importance of timely
and actionable feedback. First, students need to receive feedback about their learning throughout the
learning process, soon after the work or assignment has been turned in, so that ... Show more content

The United States And Japan
There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the
increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations
placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble brewing
between the United States and Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl Harbour in
December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of propaganda from the
press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were numerous calls to the
Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the Pacific Coast. On the 19th day
of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker
and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About
120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and non citizens were evacuated from the West
Coast in what Lt. General John DeWitt said was compelled by military necessity (Wheeler, Becker
and Glover 244). The most convincing and reliable evidence reveals that the removal and
incarceration of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor did not meet the clear and present danger test.
I do not agree with the Supreme Court s decision. During the evacuation process, Fred Korematu, a
Japanese American, sought to evade the ordeal by concealing his identity by using a plastic surgery
and using a forged identity. Fred was

The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment Essay
The Tuskegee Syphilis Experiment The Tuskegee Syphilis experiment (The official name was
Tuskegee Study of Untreated Syphilis in the Negro Male) began in the 1930 s. It was an experiment
on African Americans to study syphilis and how it affected the body and killed its victims done by
Tuskegee Institute U.S. Public Health Service researchers. The initial purpose of the Syphilis study
was to record the natural history of syphilis in Blacks (Tuskegee University, About the USPHS
Syphilis Study, par. 2). The study was necessary because syphilis was a disease that didn t yet have an
official cure (when the study began in the 30 s). There were 600 men in all; 399 had syphilis and 201

The Mississippi Appendectomy Study The Mississippi Appendectomy study started taking place in the
1920 s. The experiment consisted of excessive hysterectomies on many women mainly in the Deep
South. Poor Black women were the main focus of the experiments as well as disabled women and
women that the physicians thought were not worthy of reproducing. Young, less experienced doctors
were told to perform the sterilization process so that they had a chance to practice the procedure (50).
The experiment was unnecessary and served no true, ethical purpose. The doctors believed it was in
order to perform the hysterectomies because the women seemed unfit to have children and to give the
younger surgeons practice. In detail, while the women were having an appendectomy (removal of the
appendix), the doctors would perform the hysterectomies which were unrelated to the problem with
the patients appendix. Therefore, the hysterectomies were uncalled for since the women had no
knowledge of the additional procedure and didn t give consent (University of Maryland, Mississippi
Appendectomy , par. 1). These procedures resulted in the women deprived of their right to reproduce
and no significant benefits to science. The Mississippi Appendectomy had no significant effect on
medical history either since no major laws

The Effects Of Poverty In Hunger Of Memory
Poverty displays itself as the undeniable reality of what our society displays that needs to stop so that
future generations do not become forced to live the terrible life it manifests. Poverty is an international
problem that has the potential to end if individuals work together to care enough. In Hunger of
Memory, Richard Rodriguez explains the struggles of a Mexican American student in poverty that
expresses his hunger to become a writer and a teacher one day. In contrast, in Nora Ephron s The
Boston Photographs the families that appear in the photographs display tiredness of how they have the
ability to live in poverty. While a long time period separates these two pieces of work, both discuss
families that appear to struggle due to the effects of poverty in their everyday lives. However, whereas
Rodriquez illustrates the willpower and hunger to want to move on from his lifestyle that he lives and
overcome his impoverish state, Ephron demonstrates how families in The Boston Photographs want to
end their lives since they will have nothing else due to their state of poverty. The first difference
between the two pieces of works is that the hope that reoccurs throughout the essay. In Hunger of
Memory, Richard Rodriguez stresses his love of language and his development as a writer and a
teacher. Rodriguez strives to better his education so that he can go further in life. Individuals
continually stress that nowadays one can go extremely far with an education; however,

The P-51 Mustang Plane In World War II
World War II was one of the worst wars regarding loss of human life, but the creativity and hard work
of American and Allied scientists and soldiers led to many important technological advancements in
weaponry that helped the United States and the Allies win the war. World War II started with a
demonstration of how technology was superior when the Nazi Panzer tank divisions crushed Polish
brigades of horse cavalry when Germany invaded Poland. The German Blitzkrieg, or lightning war,
became the strategy used by the Germans to utilize armored tank divisions supported by air support to
rapidly defeat enemy forces across Europe. As the war progressed, the German air force began to raid

The original P 51 Mustang s engine, Allison V 1710 engine, had limited high altitude performance, so
then in April 1942, the Allison V 1710 engine was replaced with the Merlin engine. The Merlin engine
had proved reliable when powering the other American planes, such as Supermarine Spitfire, Avro
Lancaster, and the de Havilland Mosquito. The result of the P 51 Mustang using the new Merlin
engine was that the fighter plane could outclass German fighters in speed and acceleration (Sherman).
The P 51 Mustang was different from its older brother, the P 39 Mustang. The P 51 Mustang was
equipped with six 12.7 mm heavy caliber air cooled machine guns, three to a wing, and also had a
simplified ammunition feed system to reduce the amount of jamming issues. The P 51 Mustang was
developed with a distinctive look that included a clean and sleek design approach, because of the
designers choice of in line engine. The pilot sits at the center of the design, around the low monoplane
straight wing assembly. The Mustang series was able to eliminate drag by positioning the distinct air
scoop below the pilot. The wings had a new technologically advanced feature consisting of a laminar
flow design (Sheehan 26). The P 51 Mustang deviated from traditional aircraft fighter construction,
and instead had an engine coolant component right below the pilots seating position. However, the P
51 Mustang did keep its undercarriage consistent with the other fighter planes, having a two main
single wheeled landing gears attached into the wing root and lower fuselage and a retractable tail
wheel. The pilots were required to making sweeping S turns, because of its tail dragger design with a
long nose hindering the pilot s view (Alex). The P 51 Mustang was equipped with one big four blade
paddle propeller, allowing it to be really powerful. Along with outclassing

Swing Girls Movie Review
There is no doubt that Jazz has become one of Japanese cultures, which was once linked to Japanese
American and European cultures, and now, it could also represent Japanese culture itself. Jazz
certainly has a major influence on Japanese music styles. This influence also affects Japanese society.
Jazz is like a pot of wine with continuous fermentation, spreading its flavor to different generations of
Japan. The love of jazz is very enthusiastic, people from kids to elders are all aware of this genre and
many of them participate in school bands, society bands and other groups that perform jazz music.
Here is one track of a Japanese high school band performing How high to the moon . Second track is a
Japanese film trailer Like Someone In Love , the background jazz music was exceptionally charming,
and has an indescribable appeal.
Jazz became one of the main musical styles appearing in commercials, TV shows and all kinds of
stage performances. Because the role of jazz in Japan is significant, in the year of 2004, Japan film
producers presents a film about a group of high school girls learning Jazz. This is the film Swing Girls
. The film itself is simple but calls for deeper thoughts; a group of high school girls accidently food
poisoned the school jazz bands. In order to right their wrongs, these girls with one boy have to learn
jazz from zero knowledge until they are able to present a show for the school. Disregard the film

Death In Judaism
Not all regions where Jews live celebrate life and death in the same way. This is because Jews had to
assimilate to local cultures after they began to disperse to various parts of the world. This caused
traditions to be pushed aside all together or to be blended with local cultures (Parkes, page 99).
However, there are many core values that never faded and area consistently practiced in most parts of
the world. Death in Judaism is an important part of life. As described in Death and Bereavement
Across Cultures, Two of the most important commandments in Jewish tradition are to honor the dead
and comfort the mourner. (98) Respect for the dead is known as, kavod ha met and the comfort given
to the living is known as, nihum avelim (Rich). When ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Olam ha ba or the world to come is the belief that the soul returns to God to wait to be reborn with the
coming of the Messiah. Death allows for Jewish people to value life and their short time spent on earth
(Parkes, 101). It is believed that beyond death, life does not include earthly pleasures such as eating
and drinking. After death life consists of being, in the glory of the Divine Presence. There is no hell
after death as a destination. Rather, happiness to those who lived a righteous life and suffering to those
who sinned and led others to sin. There is more of a reward versus punishment system instead of
destinations. The punishment given to those in life after death is not set in stone, it is described in the
Talmud as, vague and contradictory (Darmesteter, page 51 52). In many branches Christianity it is
believed one s soul goes to purgatory when they die and the decision is made weather your soul will
spend eternity in heaven or hell. Jewish tradition does not believe that souls end up in one of the two
destinations rather, all souls end up in the same place, it is just the journey that is different for different
individuals. When your body dies your soul leaves it and begins its journey to return to God, this
journey is considered a purification process so your soul is pure in the world to come. The purification
process for those who lived a fulfilling and righteous life may only take a day or so while those who
lived a life full of sin take a longer time on their journey to purification, taking up to a year. After this
purification process is complete Jewish tradition states that the soul is then waiting for the coming of
the Messiah when the soul will return to the physical body for final judgment (Parkes,

Using Allport s Trait Theory Approach
Application Questions: Using Allport s trait theory approach, describe Mary s personality by
answering the following questions. Answer thoroughly and completely, using full sentences and citing
to sources to support any contentions and analyses. 1. Allport suggested seven criteria that
demonstrate that a person is psychologically healthy (mature). What are they? Find examples of them
in the case. From one to four years old: Sense of body involves consciousness of physical sensations,
(Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary is aware of her frown lines. Self identity corresponds to the child s
comprehension of an internal sameness or stability over time, (Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary has
always liked precision of number crunching; she likes it to the degree that she has integrated it into her
housekeeping chores. Self esteem reflect personal efforts to preserve pride and avoid shame,
(Piotrowski, 2005). Example: She shows satisfaction always keeping the house in order. She is always
willing to help her friends by watching their children when needed, and preparing their parties. From
four to six years old: Self Extension it refers to the child s perception of that which is his or hers,
(Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary shows this by not delegating her functions as mother and
housewife to anyone. Self image represents the consciousness of the person s objectives and personal
skills, as well as the good and bad of things of himself, (Piotrowski, 2005). Example: Mary is

Essay on The Trial of Socrates
Socrates was accused of being a sophist because he was engaging in inquiries into things beneath the
earth and in the heavens, of making the weaker argument appear the stronger, and teaching others
these same things. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics page 21) Socrates is also accused of denying
the existence of the gods, and corrupting the youth. Socrates goes about trying to prove his innocence.
The jury that Socrates was tried by was made up of 501 Athenian citizens of all classes of society.
While he fails to convince the Athenian jury of his innocence, he does a wonderful job in this effort. I
personally believe that Socrates is innocent, and that the Athenian jury made the wrong decision.

Socrates tells a story in an attempt to explain this. It starts with a man named Chaerephon, a well
respected citizen of Athens, who had died recently. Chaerephon goes to the Oracle at Delphi and he
asked if there was anyone wiser than Socrates. (Apology, Plato, Philosophic Classics, page 23) The
Oracle, of course, says that there is no man wiser than Socrates. When Socrates heard of what the
Oracle said, he begins to wonder what riddle is hidden in those words. He knows that he is not a wise
man, so he knows that he cannot be the wisest of men. Not knowing what then Oracle truly meant, he
goes out to investigate this. He went to a man who was reputed to be very wise. He thought that he
would find a man who is wiser than himself, and thus point out to the Oracle its mistake. Socrates
finds that this man actually knows nothing that is worth knowing. When Socrates tries to point this out
to the man, he and the bystanders become angry. Socrates says that he is wiser than this man because,
while they both know nothing, Socrates realizes this. The other man thinks he knows things that he
does not, while Socrates knows that he knows nothing. Socrates claims that he has done this with
many men, and that each time, he came to the same result: the man knows nothing and thinks he
knows everything, and Socrates has made the man angry. In continuing to do this, Socrates made
many men angry, and that anger turned into

Etiology of Pediatric Obesity
Fast food, as an aspect of our cultural identity, alone, cannot be responsible for the epidemic of
childhood obesity in the United States, as the behavior of children is largely reliant on the influences
of their parents. Home and social environments, parenting styles, family feeding practices are the
primary influences on early childhood nutritional behaviors. Obesity is a serious and widespread
health problem in only certain kinds of societies characterized by economic modernizations, food
surplus, and social acceptance. GENETICS During adiposity, around 5 to 6 years of age, a child s
body fatness declines to a minimum before increasing into adulthood. A study conducted at Group
Health Cooperative of Puget Sound found evidence of normal weight children with at least one
overweight parent at the time of adiposity rebound, is nearly 5 times as likely to be obese as an adult.
However, if both parents are obese before the child reaches adiposity rebound, there is 13 times the
risk of the child becoming an obese adult. Generally recognized as genetic predispositions, the causes
of excess adiopsity may affect a variety of possible physiological processes, including basal metabolic
rates. Individuals with fat phenotypes are likely to develop adult obesity but genetic inheritance does
not cause obesity alone (Whitiker). PARENTING These obese parents are creating specific food
environments for their children containing high fat, high calorie, energy dense foods. High fat foods

Advantage And Disadvantages Of Depreciation
4. Discuss about depreciation.
Depreciation is a method of allocating the cost of a tangible asset over the period in which the assets
are used. Most types of tangible assets such as machinery, vehicles, furniture, equipment and buildings
are depreciable. The only exception of tangible asset which is not depreciated is land because land is
not depleted over time. Depreciation also is a monetary value of an asset decreases over time due to
use, wear and tear, unfavourable market conditions or obsolescence of the property.
Besides, businesses depreciate long term assets for both tax and accounting purposes. For accounting
purpose, depreciation indicates how much of an asset s value has been used up. For tax purposes,
businesses can deduct the cost of the tangible assets they purchase as business expenses. Depreciation
is a non cash expense. In addition, depreciation is used in accounting to try to match the expense of an
asset to the income that the asset helps the company earn. For example, if a ... Show more content on

The one of advantages of straight line method is easy to understand and simple to calculate. The next
advantage of straight line method is it may be suitable where an asset such as plant, machinery and
vehicles utilization is the same in each year. Straight line method is useful where the pattern of
economic benefits is hard to determine with precision. Another advantage of straight line method is it
is most appropriate for assets that are depleted as a result of the passage of time, such as buildings,
leases and patents.
The disadvantage of straight line method is it assumes the benefits contributed by an asset are the
same over the period in which the assets are used. Besides, straight line method may not give an
accurate measure of the loss in value or reduction in useful life. The other disadvantage is it may not
reflect the true pattern of asset s economic benefits.

However, in JetBlue s situation a corporate advertising program would not be sufficient to overcome
the customer service and communications issues stemming from the Valentine s Day crisis. What
JetBlue needed was an overhaul of their company culture which needed to start at the top. David

Gender Bias In The Workplace
Sexism women still face gender bias in the workplace. The stereotype e.g. women more likely to take
a housekeeping job, secretarial tasks or even be look at taking notes at a college meeting. Ageism it s
been known that because of a person age, he/she been discriminated against for job advancement.
Race refers to the practice of treating people differently because of the race. I have personally heard
on my past job that the manager is looking to hire a Caucasian person, yes this still exists in toady
time. Discrimination will always be a around it will take a miracle for this to come to an end not only
within the workplace.
Problems
The problem with feminist theory is gender free morality may be impossible. In today era, many
people don t agree that women should have equal pay as men within the work place. Even though laws
have been passed to equal pay, however when it comes to equal pay a lot of company still don t
comply with this ruling.
Model
The feminist model is described as conflict resolution. Feminist model aims to resolve inequality on
multiple levels of existence. In addition, feminist model of conflict determination identifies sources of
conflict as results of oppression prolonged by dominant. e.g. if a male and a female walk over to the
automotive service department to get their car work on, and the worker come out and automatic
address the male with the question, how may I help you , the worker is looking at the male as the
dominant person.

Man Against Nature In Jack London s To Build A Fire
Man against Nature: A Look Into To Build a Fire by Jack London
Introduction
The human being has in most instances tried to outdo nature through creativity and innovation. Man s
fight against nature is endlessly continuous and determined. It is of great significance that man
understands that this competition with nature in the face of such overwhelming odds is insignificant. A
clear cut example of this unproductive struggle is a story by Jack London, To Build a Fire whereby he
uses man versus nature to support his primary theme that our struggle against nature is vastly unequal
one that leaves little or no margin for error (London, 25).
To prove this theme Jack London, in his book puts a man in an environment he is unfamiliar with. In

London says, In reality, it was not merely colder than 50 below zero; it was colder than 60 below than

107 degrees of frost , the extreme temperatures that led to the death of the man. The man also despite
the warning of the likely dangers of such cold weather, he had his argument. He in his mind stated, All
a man had to do was to keep his head, and he was all right (London, 71). Any man who was a man
could travel alone. In this instance, the man backing on his intellect and reasoning power to overcome
nature. The fact that he is unable to overcome the adverse weather conditions at his disposal is an
indication of why man cannot outwit nature. Despite his knowledge and reasoning ability, the man is
trapped, and even his attempts to light a fire to warm himself are thwarted by the same nature. He
freezes to the point that he cannot do anything.
The dog in the story is seen to be much concerned and worried about the weather than the man who
can think and make decisions. London says, But the animal sensed the danger. Its fear made it
questions eagerly every movement of the man as if expecting him to go into camp or to seek shelter

Social Construction Theory Of The National Football League
Recently, an increasing number of African American football players have been leaving their
respective colleges with years of eligibility left, to pursue a dream of playing in the National Football
League. This year alone, 101 athletes will be forgoing their remaining years of college eligibility to
enter the NFL draft. Thus representing a staggering increase from the 40 early entrants in 2007
(Heitner). This decision seems deceptive, in that it appears explicitly based on utility maximization
and the traditional economic theory of Becker and Stigler. That model does provide an adequate
explanation based on set universal preferences with efficiency determining the price of commodities.
However, I believe that it is more accurately modeled as a function of a socially constructed
framework of choice. Berger and Luckmann s social construction theory presents the opportunity to
understand more fully the background of these athletes that shapes their decision making process. In
my analysis, utility maximization is embedded within this social construction framework. Given this,
not only can we understand the conventional economic reasons for this decision, but also the
socialization that shaped the individuals to that point. I will demonstrate that the choices of these
athletes can be analyzed by taking into account how each person s preferences and efficiency is
molded by their socialization. To prove the value of my approach, I examine cases chronologically,

The foreseen change to digital technology close to 20 years later was seen as a far off date that the
company could lag in its then success. In the recent years, however, Kodak tried to realign its
management strategy in embracing innovation. First was its approach to move from the one company
one town scenario to the realistic competitive world. The previous model in which the company got

research and collect data helped Kodak gather more consumer preferences in order to keep at par with
innovation. Acquiring a more diversified top level management and having a more democratic

differences is type as an associate nursing degree is an academic achievement in Applied Science
while a baccalaureate nursing degree is labeled as a bachelor s of science in nursing (BSN). However,
the two degrees prepare students for the National Council Licensure Exam, which is a prerequisite for
practicing as a registered nurse. After licensing, graduates of these degrees can work as new nurses in
various facilities like clinics, hospitals, long term care, and other health facilities at the entry level
position. Features and Benefits of the Degrees: In addition to the differences in the functions of these
degrees, the associate degree and baccalaureate degree in nursing also vary in their features and

Are you tired and lazy to go to work every day? If you re answer is YES. Well, that s life. What about
slaves that never go to sleep and eat? As it say in the Bible (1 Peter 2:18) Slaves, submit yourselves to

submit yourselves to your slaves with all respect and treat them like your family and not a piece of

can imagined, it can be worse than treating an animal. Slaves were distributed in an area of a house or
a plantation. On some owners of the slaves they provided them housing but most of them didn t care
about their slaves. Sometimes slaves just sleep in a dark cabin with no windows that almost suffocated
them. Dirt, hard and cold floor are the most common type of bed of slaves. Is that even a bed? But

The Importance Of Crop Biodiversity
Crop Biodiversity is a very important to the world we know. As populations grow around the world
people are going to consume more food. This can cause a problem without crop biodiversity. Crop
biodiversity is the outcome of the interactions among genetic resources, the environment and the
management systems and practices used by farmers. This is the result of both natural selection and
human interventions and human inventive developed over millennia. Crop diversity helps when trying
feeding growing populations with smaller amount of cropland. Crop biodiversity is used in several
different ways like pest control, pollination, pollution and sediment regulation, maintenance of the
hydrological cycle, erosion control, and climate regulation and carbon sequestration.
Crop diversity in pest control has made a big impact on growing crops in areas that are dominated by
pests that would eat up a crop as soon as it flowers. Crop biodiversity has made crops able to
withstand roundup and different types of pesticides, which keep pests off the crops while they are
growing. Thus letting crops grow to their full potential in area of the country that before crop diversity
wouldn t have been able to happen. This helps in utilizing land for growing crops to feed growing
populations when good land is being utilized for building structures.
Crop biodiversity is also used to keep food safety obtainable in the growing world of food safety
programs like the FDA. The FDA ensures every crop being

Distance Education Means Online Education
To most people in the 21st century, distance education means online education, the use of the Internet
to create a computer based learning connection between instructor and student (Larreamendy Joerns
Leinhardt, 2006). In today s increasingly technological world, nearly 70% of top academic leaders
agree that online learning is part of the academic world s future, and as of 2013, nearly 1/3 of higher
education students were enrolled in an online course (Kentnor, 2015). Although distance education s
rapid evolution began alongside the growth of technology in the late 1990s, the history of distance
learning goes back much farther than modern technology.
First distance learning
The first educational occurrence that can be viewed as distance learning occurred in the 18th century.
Caleb Phillips took out an advertisement in the Boston Gazette that offered shorthand lessons. Phillips
s idea was to send lessons via the Postal Service, which some view not as actual distance education
because a lack of two way communication. Regardless, the basic principle of distance learning was
present (Kentnor, 2015). As cited in Kentnor (2015), according to Verduin and Clark (1991), the first
real distance educator was Issac Pitman, who taught shorthand by correspondence via mailed
postcards in 1840. Students mailed their work back to Pitman, thus establishing the first true distance
education. This method continued from the 19th to the early 20th century, as desire for a college

Role Of The Media During The Vietnam War
Tan Oguz Instructor: Arjun Subrahmanyan HIST 386C 11 December 2014 Final Paper Role of the
Media in the Vietnam War Vietnam War is a war that mainly differentiates from any other war in the
history of the modern warfare due to the fact that the first time in history the media was able to act
without restrictions and had the opportunity to film and record the war from the frontline of the
combat zone. Besides the political and military decisions taken at the wartime, media had a impact on
changing destiny of the war. In this essay, in order to show the impact of the media on the war, I will
try to examine some of the key events of the Vietnam War, such as the Tet Offensive, and My Lai
Massacre. Were there any misconceptions presented by the media about the war? Was media
responsible of the US loss in Vietnam? Is the power of media exaggerated at the time of the war?
Throughout the essay, these questions will try to be answered in the contexts of specific events. Before
the insertion of ground troops in Vietnam, much of the concern in the media had been favoured to the
political tactics of reinforcing a non communist (democratic) government in South Vietnam. After the
war changed its direction to heavy ground batlle, a change in coverage also eventuated that the media
were more concerned and interested in military conjuncture (Wyatt 1995). By becoming more
interested in military aspects of the war, the media became more engaged in actual fight scenes and
brutality of the

Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious
experiences
Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be
Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that
religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from
the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its
religious significance.
The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience
of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not
always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of
Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man
and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him
to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could
cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences.
Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature
of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all
have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads
to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the
argument.
Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively.
This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious
experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the
experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For example Swinburne argued
inductively supporting

production, often simply, Lean, is a production practice that considers the expenditure of resources for
any goal other than the creation of value for the end customer to be wasteful, and thus a target for
elimination. Working from the perspective of the customer who consumes

The Chaco Canyon s Passage
The instrumental concept of the passage is related to different usage of the Chaco Canyon s buildings.
However, every one of these usages are questioned by the lecturer. In the ensuing paragraphs, the
lecturer reasoning for each of the passage s claims are discussed in details. The Lecturer announces
that, few fire places exist in the Chaco Canyon s settlements; therefor, one can conclude that these
places are not created for residential purposes. Also, as the lecturer remark, the enormous number of
the rooms does not confirm that these places are utilized for residential purpose like apartment
building in Taos, which is stated in the passage. Therefore, The lecturer seriously casts doubt on this
claim by comparing numerous rooms with few

Cobra Beer
This strategic report analyses several different factors in regards to Cobra Beer. The analysis was
focused on the UK market and beer industry. The first section of the report looks at analysing Cobra
Beer s external environment via a microenvironment analysis. It accomplishes this in the form of a
PESTEL and Porter s 5 Forces analysis. PESTEL was examined in regards to the Beer industry and it
looked at several issues, and analysed the critical issues in detail. Porters 5 forces looked at the
industry s sources of rivalry. Issues and problems were viewed for both with solutions seen at the end
of the report. The external environment subsequently concluded that the beer industry is a very
attractive but not a profitable one, as it s comfortable to enter but tough to construct profits.
Analysis of the internal environment was later examined through the resource based view. This looked
at the resources and capabilities of Cobra Beer and analysed what resources and capabilities they

Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading
Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading
For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the
choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I
find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s
when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of
the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately
understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can
reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of
completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading.
This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of
information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always
appreciate.
When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate,
resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run. Lauren Singer and
Patricia Alexander, scholars of University of Maryland, proves this instance in their experiment,
Reading Across Mediums: Effects of Reading Digital and Print Texts on Comprehension and
Calibration (2016). The study consisted of

Benefits of Indian Gaming and its role in Global Development of Tribal Nations
Indigenous peoples throughout the world have suffered and continue to suffer ever since white people
stepped foot onto their lands. In the Americas, countless incidents of genocide and blatant violations
of human rights have occurred time and time again. Those indigenous to North America, known
commonly as Indians or Native Americans, have faced an immense amount of racism, hatred, and
oppression on the very same land that was once their own, before it was stolen by the colonists. Native
Americans have faced economic hardships that are unmatched by any other race in the United States;
the statistics are absolutely staggering and horrifying to know that such ... Show more content on

There is a myth that the native peoples of the Americas were ever conquered, assimilated, wiped out,
or that they never even existed. The fact is that Native Americans have been consistent with their
refusal to assimilate into white culture and to trade in their traditional values for capitalistic
materialism, and they have continued to survive in a country that essentially tried to kill off their race
through various means of termination, relocation, genocide, and other policies that at one time or
another were implemented by the federal government. The American government viewed Native
Americans as a problem that had to be dealt with from the moment they arrived on this continent. Still
today, many federal officials and bureaucrats continue to view Native Americans as a problem that
must be dealt with accordingly. Tribal nations have suffered centuries of turmoil, as the federal
government implemented a series of policies to deal with the Indian problem and drive Natives close
to extinction. Around 1900 is when the Native American population in the United States reached its
nadir with a total American Indian population of only about 125,000, which had been reduced in a few
centuries from 5+ million. Removal, reservations, and allotment contributed to the declining

Folk Culture In Bell Hooks s Let The Good Times Roll
With our modern day technology and ever changing society, it is important to keep folk cultures alive
and not allow them to slip away. Piecing it all Together by bell hooks describes how she remembers
her grandmother patiently and skillfully telling the story of her life through the art of sewing a tedious
quilt. Chris Rose in his article Let the Good Times Roll depicts the tragedy, perseverance of a
community, and the total comment from all to rise up and move on and celebrate their heritage and
traditions. Folk cultures are the backbones that shape and mold every individual during their lifetime
blending together traditions and skills, foods, beliefs, heritage and shared values that are taught and/or
passed down from generation to generation, providing a common identity or direction for people
within a family or community.
The preservation of traditions and skills is an important part of our community and family history. As
Rose stated in Let the Good Times Roll , It is the harmonic convenience of our food, our music, our
creativity, our eccentricity, our neighborhoods, and our joy of living. All at once (361). During the fall
of every year, towns across Georgia host a festival of some sort. Whether it be the Yellow Daisy
Festival at Stone Mountain Park or the Friendship Festival in Social Circle, local artist and craftsmen
come together to display and sell their handmade items. Ranging from patch worked quilts to bird
feeders to hand smocked children s

  • 2. Analysis Of The Secret Life Of Bees There is nothing perfect, August said from the doorway. There is only life (Kidd 256). This quote from The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd explains Lily Owens life, a young girl with an unloving father and a mother who abandoned her and was later shot and killed by her own daughter, Lily. Lily has a hard time finding her place in the world and understanding why her life is the way it is. She decides it is time for her to take charge of her own life. She finds herself in Tiburon, South Carolina with her nanny Rosaleen and three black women, August, June and May who unravel the story to her mother s past. Lily s story can be seen in different layers, the most significant layers are the religious, thematic and symbolic layers. These three layers are essential when trying to gain understanding of The Secret Life of Bees. In The Secret Life of bees you can learn a lot from the thematic layer. Three salient themes in this layer are forgiveness, hope and strength. Hope is shown when Zach talks to Lily about becoming a lawyer one day, I ve just never heard of a Negro lawyer, that s all. You ve got to hear of these things before you can imagine them Bullshit. You gotta imagine what s never been (Kidd 121). Zach has hope that one day he will become a lawyer despite his skin color and what everyone else says about it. He doesn t give up because of what society thinks, he stays hopeful. During this time period African Americans had to keep hope that one day the racism ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Urban Sprawl And New Urbanism Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism In the modern world, human civilization has seen many changes from earlier points in our history. In the more developed countries in the world, human civilization is broken up into two main categories known as Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism . In the interactive, Urban Sprawl and New Urbanism are broken down into five main branches: Regional Transportation, Parking, Street Plans, Shops, Civic Buildings, Workplaces, and Residential Distribution. These branches reflect many of the places that we live in and see every day, and explains their purpose in depth. Regional Transportation in New Urbanism includes mass transit that is of easy access to the people that live within the vicinity. The public transportation in New Urbanism is meant to carry large amounts of people at once such as light rail busses, and subways in order to get them to their destination quickly to minimize the amount of time it takes them to get where they need to go since the commutes are fairly short. This also cuts down on car trips since the busses and subways are within walking distance, and provides people with more time for family and community life, and can even bring low income workers to suburbs where there are many jobs. In terms of Urban Sprawl, many businesses, shops, and jobs are not within a close distance, and as a result, many have to drive themselves to their destinations. A vast amount of people rely on highways to get to wherever they need to go, and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Both America and Britain sat idle as Germany committed genocide, with only their own interests in mind. The United States adopted Isolationism in hope of fixing their own dilemma instead of aiding the suffering. Britain handed over millions of lives to save the lives of their own people. Their abandonment of the Holocaust victims led to the ability to lead out the mass murder of millions of innocent people. After a finacial high in 1920 s, America fell into the Great Depression. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Neville is best known for the appeasement, the Munich Contract, he made with Hitler. The concept of an appeasement can be traced back to World War I, between the French and British. It was made because both sides were not ready for war. Both France and Britain generated a strong desire to achieve peace at any price (). The appeasement between the two countries settled the war and they achieved peace. Chamberlain wanted its peace from Germany, so he decided that an appeasement could satisfy both sides. British politicians at the time feared that communism had a larger threat than fascism at the time, and many of the politicians admired the way Mussolini and Hitler ran their countries. This allowed the British government to allow Chamberlain to make a pact without much consideration on the affects of it. Together, Neville and Hitler made the Munich Pact, which gave Hitler parts of Czechoslovakia. After signing the contract, Chamberlain met Hitler without contacting the Czech authoritans and agreed to allow Hitler to have all areas in Sudetenland with more than a 50% German population. An unsatisfied Hitler demanded all of Sudetenland, and Britain and France agreed to satisfy his demand. Chamberlain believed he had made peace with Germany and Britain was safe. Soon enough, Hitler broke the pact and was invading other parts of Czechoslovakia and Poland. This launched Britain into WWII. After Hitler broke the pact, Winston Churchill replaced Chamberlain after he was fired because of his pact. Before he became Prime Minister, Churchill opposed the appeasement. • 7. Strengths And Weaknesses Of Feedback In Education My job as an educator is to meet the needs of the students in my class. The chapters I read reminded me of the importance of differentiating for the wide variety of needs in my classroom. It is essential that I differentiate the content, process, and product on a regular basis. Sometimes I overthink differentiated instruction, making it too complicated in my head. Carol Ann Tomlinson (2001) specifically reminded me that differentiation can be successfully accomplished by all teachers through both low preparation methods and high preparation methods. When a classroom s instruction is differentiated, teachers sometimes have questions about how grading may be different than a traditional classroom. Because of reading the above mentioned literature, I now have a greater awareness of formative assessments, rubrics, and building mutual understandings of grading practices among teachers. Formative assessment is meant to be used regularly to provide students with feedback about how they can continue to improve and grow as a learner and to inform a teacher s next step instructionally. The most valuable idea I took away from the literature was the importance of timely and actionable feedback. • 8. The United States And Japan There had been a growing outcry from the public and leaders for something to be done to reduce the increasingly growing number of Japanese immigrants in the West Coast. Subsequent regulations placed on the Japanese in the United States made them aggravated. There was serious trouble brewing between the United States and Japan until the Japanese carried out attacks on Pearl Harbour in December 1941. After the attack on Pearl Harbor there was increased spread of propaganda from the press and local leaders against the people with Japanese roots. There were numerous calls to the Congress and President Roosevelt for removal of the Japanese from the Pacific Coast. On the 19th day of February 1942, President Roosevelt issued the Executive Order Number 9066 (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The Executive Order authorized the evacuation of the Issei and Missei. About 120000 individuals of Japanese ancestry, both citizens and non citizens were evacuated from the West Coast in what Lt. General John DeWitt said was compelled by military necessity (Wheeler, Becker and Glover 244). The most convincing and reliable evidence reveals that the removal and incarceration of Japanese Americans after Pearl Harbor did not meet the clear and present danger test. I do not agree with the Supreme Court s decision. Poor Black women were the main focus of the experiments as well as disabled women and women that the physicians thought were not worthy of reproducing. Young, less experienced doctors were told to perform the sterilization process so that they had a chance to practice the procedure (50). The experiment was unnecessary and served no true, ethical purpose. The doctors believed it was in order to perform the hysterectomies because the women seemed unfit to have children and to give the younger surgeons practice. In detail, while the women were having an appendectomy (removal of the appendix), the doctors would perform the hysterectomies which were unrelated to the problem with the patients appendix. Therefore, the hysterectomies were uncalled for since the women had no knowledge of the additional procedure and didn t give consent (University of Maryland, Mississippi Appendectomy , par. 1). The Effects Of Poverty In Hunger Of Memory Poverty displays itself as the undeniable reality of what our society displays that needs to stop so that future generations do not become forced to live the terrible life it manifests. Poverty is an international problem that has the potential to end if individuals work together to care enough. Olam ha ba or the world to come is the belief that the soul returns to God to wait to be reborn with the coming of the Messiah. Death allows for Jewish people to value life and their short time spent on earth (Parkes, 101). It is believed that beyond death, life does not include earthly pleasures such as eating and drinking. After death life consists of being, in the glory of the Divine Presence. There is no hell after death as a destination. Rather, happiness to those who lived a righteous life and suffering to those who sinned and led others to sin. There is more of a reward versus punishment system instead of destinations. The punishment given to those in life after death is not set in stone, it is described in the Talmud as, vague and contradictory (Darmesteter, page 51 52). Jewish tradition does not believe that souls end up in one of the two destinations rather, all souls end up in the same place, it is just the journey that is different for different individuals. When your body dies your soul leaves it and begins its journey to return to God, this journey is considered a purification process so your soul is pure in the world to come. The purification process for those who lived a fulfilling and righteous life may only take a day or so while those who lived a life full of sin take a longer time on their journey to purification, taking up to a year. • 29. Social Construction Theory Of The National Football League Recently, an increasing number of African American football players have been leaving their respective colleges with years of eligibility left, to pursue a dream of playing in the National Football League. This year alone, 101 athletes will be forgoing their remaining years of college eligibility to enter the NFL draft. Thus representing a staggering increase from the 40 early entrants in 2007 (Heitner). This decision seems deceptive, in that it appears explicitly based on utility maximization and the traditional economic theory of Becker and Stigler. That model does provide an adequate explanation based on set universal preferences with efficiency determining the price of commodities. However, I believe that it is more accurately modeled as a function of a socially constructed framework of choice. Berger and Luckmann s social construction theory presents the opportunity to understand more fully the background of these athletes that shapes their decision making process. In my analysis, utility maximization is embedded within this social construction framework. Given this, not only can we understand the conventional economic reasons for this decision, but also the socialization that shaped the individuals to that point. I will demonstrate that the choices of these athletes can be analyzed by taking into account how each person s preferences and efficiency is molded by their socialization. To prove the value of my approach, I examine cases chronologically, delving into the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In the recent years, however, Kodak tried to realign its management strategy in embracing innovation. First was its approach to move from the one company one town scenario to the realistic competitive world. The previous model in which the company got feedback was insufficient to acknowledge the preferences of global consumers. The shift to delocalize research and collect data helped Kodak gather more consumer preferences in order to keep at par with innovation. Acquiring a more diversified top level management and having a more democratic management style helped it to assign variously qualified staff in their areas of expertise. This ensured best skill input in each field and ensured the implementation of staff suggestion and ideas that would foster business (Williams, 2013). Kodak s management finally had to accept the decline of their core business area of focus, film, and diversify into various other fields to keep it afloat business. • 36. Distance Education Means Online Education To most people in the 21st century, distance education means online education, the use of the Internet to create a computer based learning connection between instructor and student (Larreamendy Joerns Leinhardt, 2006). In today s increasingly technological world, nearly 70% of top academic leaders agree that online learning is part of the academic world s future, and as of 2013, nearly 1/3 of higher education students were enrolled in an online course (Kentnor, 2015). Although distance education s rapid evolution began alongside the growth of technology in the late 1990s, the history of distance learning goes back much farther than modern technology. First distance learning The first educational occurrence that can be viewed as distance learning occurred in the 18th century. Caleb Phillips took out an advertisement in the Boston Gazette that offered shorthand lessons. Phillips s idea was to send lessons via the Postal Service, which some view not as actual distance education because a lack of two way communication. Regardless, the basic principle of distance learning was present (Kentnor, 2015). As cited in Kentnor (2015), according to Verduin and Clark (1991), the first real distance educator was Issac Pitman, who taught shorthand by correspondence via mailed postcards in 1840. Students mailed their work back to Pitman, thus establishing the first true distance education. This method continued from the 19th to the early 20th century, as desire for a college ... • 37. Role Of The Media During The Vietnam War Tan Oguz Instructor: Arjun Subrahmanyan HIST 386C 11 December 2014 Final Paper Role of the Media in the Vietnam War Vietnam War is a war that mainly differentiates from any other war in the history of the modern warfare due to the fact that the first time in history the media was able to act without restrictions and had the opportunity to film and record the war from the frontline of the combat zone. Besides the political and military decisions taken at the wartime, media had a impact on changing destiny of the war. In this essay, in order to show the impact of the media on the war, I will try to examine some of the key events of the Vietnam War, such as the Tet Offensive, and My Lai Massacre. Were there any misconceptions presented by the media about the war? Was media responsible of the US loss in Vietnam? Is the power of media exaggerated at the time of the war? Throughout the essay, these questions will try to be answered in the contexts of specific events. Before the insertion of ground troops in Vietnam, much of the concern in the media had been favoured to the political tactics of reinforcing a non communist (democratic) government in South Vietnam. After the war changed its direction to heavy ground batlle, a change in coverage also eventuated that the media were more concerned and interested in military conjuncture (Wyatt 1995). By becoming more interested in military aspects of the war, the media became more engaged in actual fight scenes and brutality of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Examine some of the key principles of the argument for the existence of God based upon religious experiences Religious experiences are experiences we have of the divine or God. These experiences may be Mystical experiences, conversion experiences or revelatory experiences. Paul Tillich states that religious experience is a feeling of ultimate concern , a feeling that demands a decisive decision from the one receiving it. He describes it as an encounter followed by a special understanding of its religious significance. The argument for religious experiences is based on 3 premises. Premise one states that the experience of X indicates the reality of X. One problem with this premise is that the experience of X does not always indicate ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The problems with premise three can also be highlighted by looking at the religious experience of Mosses when he saw God in the burning bush. When God came to him, Mosses had just killed a man and run away into the desert. Therefore he could be experiencing extreme guilt which could cause him to have an illusion. Also if he is in the desert then he was most likely dehydrated which again could cause an illusion. Therefore other factors may be used to explain religious experiences. Another example to support premise three, and one that addresses the problem of the subjective nature of religious experiences, is corporate religious experiences. This is when large numbers of people all have the same religious experience at the same time. The fact that they are experienced by many leads to the fact that they can be objectively tested and the accounts validated adding further support for the argument. Those that argue that religious experiences are proof of the existence of God usually argue inductively. This means that they look at the subjective testimonies of individuals who claim to have had religious experiences in order to find similar characteristics and then draw the general conclusion that the experiences can only be explained in terms of the existence of God. For example Swinburne argued inductively supporting ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Difference Between Digital Reading And Digital Reading Digital Reading vs. Printed Reading For a person who loves to read, I could never imagine myself reading on a screen when it comes to the choice of print or digital reading. Whether it is for research, schoolwork, or just for fun, the articles I find online only encourages me to print them so that I could have a physical copy in my hands. That s when the inseparable feeling occurs to me: I feel more of an attachment between the physical copy of the text and myself. I become so indulged in the text that my surroundings disappear. I can ultimately understand what I m reading and grasp all the book s pearls. Many people who enjoy reading can reminisce with the same feelings that I have experienced. Even many of those who read for the sake of completing a task can admit that there s not much of a strain when comparing print to digital reading. This is why reading from a book is still a necessity in our daily lives: it allows for a better grasp of information, greater memory production, and an enjoyable experience that the reader can always appreciate. When we read from books, our brains can attain more information at a more accurate and faster rate, resulting in greater scores when displaying comprehension skills in the long run.
