New Start Reflection
This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the University
of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and throughout the
program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about yourself. Using tools
from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what
are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my
SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks.
Strengths
Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my
values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list
of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values
included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially
challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to
apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during
New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by
missing school I d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the
next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation
such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school
is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the
ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and
understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I
will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier
I m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the
end.
Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my top
goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to

Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen
In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as it would have been
in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The
prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on
the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this
poem differs and relates to the high school environment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections
between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal
experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school
environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in
crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak
in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used
to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls
said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways
glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that
spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls
sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement

Special Needs Cases Essay
Special needs litigation is one of the most common legal issue dealt with in educational circles. IDEA
(Individuals with Disabilities Act) does not define appropriate which leaves the interpretation of an
adequate level of educational services and responsibilities open to a great deal of subjectivity. This
analysis provides a brief summary of special needs cases and the implications for school systems and
educational administrators.
In Cedar Rapids Community School District vs. Garrett F., the parents of a mentally coherent but
wheelchair and ventilator bound student wanted the school district to provide nursing services for their
child so he could attend school. The US Supreme Court decided that it was the school s responsibility

These cases demonstrate the challenges that are brought before educators as they attempt to provide an
appropriate education for each child. Special needs students must be evaluated individually and their
individual education plan must be designed around realistic standards. School systems and
administrators walk a tight rope between adequately meeting the needs of every student and balancing
educational integrity issues with the fiscal budget. In a perfect world, there would be plenty to go
around for everyone and everybody s needs could be met to the fullest. In reality, we are left to
prioritize spending as best we can. Decisions within the schools must be made as quickly as possible
based upon the legal precedents set forth by case law and within the financial constraints of the
school. CEDAR RAPIDS COMMUNITY SCHOOL DIST. V.GARRET F. (96 1793) 526 U.S. 66

How Does Vonnegut Use Flashbacks In Slaughterhouse Five
Kevin Amoah

Honors World Literature

IS KURT VONNEGUT S SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE A GOOD ANTI WAR NOVEL?
Mostly, not all soldiers are affected by the negative aspects of war like injures or death. However,
more than half of these soldiers who come back from war mostly suffer from Post Traumatic Stress. In
Kurt Vonnegut s slaughterhouse five, Vonnegut, the author, ues enormous flashbacks, disorder shifts in
time, and the use of short phrases, so it goes to convey the idea of lack of sorrow for the death and
ability to tell what s going to happen in the future due to flashbacks in order to show the negative and
long lasting effects of war.
In Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse 5, Vonnegut uses short phrases such as so it goes in order to show the
idea that Billy, the main character, doesn t really have pity toward died people. This is because when
Billy visited the Tralfamadorians the important he learned on The Tralfamadore was that when a
person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people
to cry at his funeral . ( Vonnegut 26). Billy finds his own explanation of the bombing and the death of
so many innocent people. He turns to the Tralfamadorian belief that the deaths were unpreventable
and had to happen because that was how they were supposed to happen. Neither he nor anyone else
could change what destiny had decided would occur. At the thought of these deaths and all death Billy
sees, he has only one

Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches
Analysis:
Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical
lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species of
cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows the
adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a process
called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process evolved
approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common ancestor). Due
to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells that harbour
symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach is an
omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they prefer sweets,
meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which is meant to break
down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million years ago, causing two
new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile and wind stimulus by
turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin running between 8.2 and
gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli.
Conclusion:
Evolution, the process by which a species gene pool changes over time, creates necessary variation in
organisms for adaptation to a variety

Being An Alcoholic
This time they decided to send me out of town to a program in Arizona. I arrived there on a Friday,
however, the program wasn t to commence until that Monday. There was no way I was going to check
in and be on lockdown, knowing that I still had a weekend to play with. I checked into a hotel and
prepared myself for, what I thought would turn out, a great time. I learned that things don t always
turn out as planned. I hit the town running at full speed seeking the first bar I could locate to get things
kicked off. Before I knew it, I had gone from one bar to another, even catching taxis to get to and from
them. When I made it back to the hotel room, I was pretty loaded and should have called it quits. But
there s another thing I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But the party didn t end there. Later that Saturday afternoon, I was released on my own
reconnaissance and I headed back to the room. I still had a full day to enjoy prior to checking in on
that Monday and I had no plans on allowing it to go to waste. I had my wallet with my debit card in it
and conveniently enough, there was an ATM machine in the lobby of the hotel. I withdrew additional
funds from my bank account and once again I was out and about in pursuit of some to drink. I tried to
convince myself to be more careful the second time around because I didn t want to repeat what I had
just experienced the night before. Early on, everything was going as planned. I was drinking, feeling
good and was still partially coherent. I was feeling well enough to call it quits, but the night still
seemed young and I thought I d challenge a few more shots prior to retiring for that evening. I believe
I can vaguely remember having one more drink before everything went pitch black again. By the time
the lights came back on, once again, there I was on the county s floor as a repeat offender of public
intoxication.
There was, however, something different about this time. Before I was released that Sunday, one of
the deputies pulled me to the side for a quick chat. He told me that I was found in a dark space behind
an abandoned building with my shirt open and my pockets turned inside out missing all of its contents.

Odysseus As A Hero Archetype
Not all heros come in movies or little kid books. Some heros come from thousands of years ago and
are nothing like the heros today. Keep reading and you ll find out what I mean! Some heros are known
for saving the day and having a happy ever after but, for this hero, nothing good happened for a long
time. This hero, who goes by Odysseus, went through very tough times before he even saw a glimpse
of happiness after twenty long years. This hero s journey happened over a thousand years ago in the
Ancient Greece. Odysseus and his men sailed across the seas to fight in the Trojan War but, because of
his men s stupidity, took him longer to get home then he was planning. In this story, there are many
archetypes and the the three I will be talking ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prince always have an obstacle to face and some obstacles come with one eye and an appetite.
The monster knows none but savage ways and a quote to help my statement is A prodigious man slept
in this cave alones, and took his flocks to graze afield remote from all companions knowing none but
savage ways a brute so huge (580)Homer. The monster archetype can be anything that you fear. The
monster can also be anything that is a bad temptation. A quote from the story to help my thesis is the
sirens who lure sailors to their destruction;the wandering rocks, sea rocks that even destroy seabirds at
flight (580)Homer. The sirens can stand for temptation and temptation is not always good. Sometimes,
monsters can come when you have two decisions and neither one is a good choice but you have to
choose and this is an example of my statement The perils of the sea monster Scylia and nearby, the
whirlpool charybdis (580)Homer. Both decision can be bad but you still have to choose and it will
have consequences. I know a similar situation is with popularity, you do the wrong things to be
popular and get in trouble for it or not do it and be left out. Now do think this was so easy for
Odysseus? He had to have a damsel in distress to save to become the hero, or should I say, damsels in
distress. The damsel in distress archetype is an extra complication added into the story. Odysseus men
got themselves into some serious trouble even though Odysseus warned them.

Management Accounting And Control Systems Essay
In the last 20 years, the business environment has changed dramatically with the widespread adoption
of the internet and other massive technological advances, it has been argued that with this new and
volatile environment that management accounting and control systems are more important than ever to
deal with the changing times. In this essay we will discuss whether management accounting and
control systems are important in the new business environment, major changes to the business
environment and how they have changed the role of management accounting and control systems, and
finally we will study an organisation and recent changes that have affected its business environment.
If we look at the definition of management accounting, it states that management accounting is a
process that helps managers make informed decisions by creating planning and performance
management systems that help to control a business and guide it to identify and realise the businesses
strategy (Institute of Management Accounants, 2008). With new technology being created over the last
20 years, it is clear that business environments have changed wildly and will require managers to
make very vital decisions regarding the operation of a business in order to succeed in the new
environment. For example, the structure of organisations all around the world have moved to a more
decentralised structure compared to the classical hierarchal structure (Chenhall Morris, 1986), this
means there is more

The Definition Of Global Citizenship
Global Citizenship
In viewing the video Globalization: What Is Happening to us (2010). It is obvious why global
citizenship should be a must for all people. Modern technology has allowed us to communicate and
stay in touch with people all over the world including those dear to us like friends and family.
Advanced technology is a norm in today society whether you like it or not. All information now of
days is passed through advanced technology. It allows us to keep up with people and their culture and
norms. In social service field, it is crucial that I understand and able to communicate with my clients.
On the internet, I can research cultures and their norms. It is vital to learn differently about other
culture to better serve and communicate with them. It can be persuasively argued that effective care is
impossible without a working knowledge and understanding of a person s or groups cultures ns
background (NASW, n.d.).
Disagreement between Theorist
There is variations definition of global citizenship; the words are interchangeable with each other. A
theorist can each have their own high opinion regarding global citizenship. My definition of global
citizenship is that we are responsible to this world. People are responsible for human, human rights,
cultural and diversity. People are responsible for connecting the world, cultures, and people with each
other. Responsible for advocating for the world and its problem of others.

The Weight Loss Journey For Wrestling
Despite the dangers, thousands of collegiate and high school wrestlers across the world go on fasting
and binge diets, run with several thick layers of clothing on, spit into a bottle, or even take laxatives so
they can weigh a specific amount on competition day. Health professionals say this type of diet can be
dangerous, rules are set forth to help regulate it, and classmates look at them like they are crazy.
Despite efforts, it s still happening, and some parents allow it and even support it. For what purpose?

To this day, when I want to stop doing something that is difficult it s much easier to look back and say,
I ve done something harder than this, just finish this up. Also, I learned to drink water, because we
really do need it to live. According to an article on the New York Times, three collegiate wrestlers died
within a three month span in 1997 all from cutting weight (Litsky). Cutting weight is when someone
will try to drastically reduce their weight in a short period of time through a variety of methods. The
deaths of these three collegiate wrestlers resulted in a hasty decision from the NCAA in an attempt to
prevent any more injuries or deaths. An article by Terry Larimer on The Morning Call explains the
that policy banned the use of rubber suits and saunas for use in weight cutting practices because they
drastically increase body temperature and dehydration, which was the root cause for the deaths of
these three wrestlers (Larimer). Larimer also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes,
adding a seven pound weight allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to
lose as much weight, with the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2
hours prior to the event rather than 24 hours (Larimer). This rule was enacted to discourage athletes
from cutting weight on the basis that with less recovery time, losing too much weight will not be

My Vacation
Could the day become any worse? One afternoon, my grandmother was looking for houses, I wanted
to go to the mall before 8 because there a huge sale. Suddenly the car started to make disturbing
noises, when we stopped at the stoplight the car cut off and begun to overheat! The mall was already
about to close and the car was steaming! So we decided to relax and turn the radio on. My favorite
song came on and the man on the radio offered $200,000 to the first caller, we called and won the
money! My aunt and I called my grandmother to tell her the amazing news, she said this would be the
perfect time to go on vacation! so my family decided we would like to travel within the united states
and while there, we would visit the cities of New York City, Hollywood, and Miami.
The first city my family will visit is New York City! When my family and I arrive we will check into a
room at the Plaza Hotel. I will take my sister and little cousin on the balcony to see the beautiful view!
Kinslea my sister will be ecstatic when she sees the lights from the huge towers and shops above us.
Soon later, my family and I will go to time square to see all of the unique shops, I will purchase a few
outfits for the trip. When we return back to our room we will dress up for supper at the view on the
48th floor, we will relax and watch the alluring view of the city as we revolve around and enjoy our
meal. I will order my favorite food steak! When we arrive back to the room I will slip

Deforestation In Avatar
Avatar the movie has many stories behind it, comparing it to the real world. In relation to Avatar, when
deforestation occurs it will kill the animal s natural habitat and humans honestly don t care. Humans
will destroy anything, that is beneficial towards them, and in this case deforestation will happen. Due
to deforestation, animals lose their home making it quite difficult to survive in a new environment. It s
harder for animals to adapt, this can lead to animal extinction that will affect everyone because life is a
cycle, and animals are part of it. When comparing the environment to reality vs unreality, in Avatar the
movie, you realize the significance behind it. In the movie the character Neytiri (one of the Na Vi
people she s similar to a princess because her dad is a the leader) reacts towards an animal saying

Sweet Pea Research Paper
Sweet Pea Mack
There is a common belief that our animals find us. Looking for our forever dog does not always come
easily or quickly. That match may be increasingly difficult if you are looking for the ideal dog to
become part of a community. One of the most difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a pet. While
it is not uncommon for retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the resident needs to be
able to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid caregivers. As a geriatric
social worker, I am a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and totally support seniors
with maintaining a relationship with animals in whatever capacity they are able. Years ago I was
working in a retirement community committed to improving the culture and climate in the nursing
home by implementing the Eden Alternative. This system is designed to create a human habitat
through the inclusion of plants, animal, and volunteers.
Adopting two suitable dogs was my mission. Enter into the picture is Sweet Pea and Mack, rescued

Bakke was ineligible for these. The special admissions program at Davis was reserved for applicants

The Christian Worldview
The Christian Worldview is very widely known in today s society. This religion has many strong
beliefs about the creation of the world and what waits for believers in the afterlife. Psalms 111:10
gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the Lord is the
beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal
praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific beliefs and
expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian Worldview, God is
to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory, honor, and praise. God
is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being unchanging, all powerful,
all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These characteristics are believed to be true
because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo,
2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Bible says, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and
divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver since the creation of the world, in the things that have
been made. God is also the first person in the Trinity, the belief that there is one God who exists in
three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit (Kilby, 2011). Another belief of the Christian worldview is
that God is the creator of all things; however, distinct from his creation. The first

the diagnostic categorization normally associated with transsexuals, or individuals who feel they were

(WebMD Prevalence, 2006). Sometimes G.I.D. is mistaken with accompanied by transvestic
fetishism, which is, could be seen in heterosexual males accompanied with intense sexually arousing
fantasies, sexual urges, or behaviors which involve cross dressing (DSMIVp.258 59). The disorder can
be noted in early children but many people are diagnosed of the problem at adolescence (Maccoby
Jacklin, 1974).

Who Is To Blame For The American Revolution
In battling the British in the Revolutionary War, the American rebels did just as the great French
military and political leader, Napoleon Bonaparte advised, Never interrupt your enemy when he is
making a mistake . Though there were a great deal of missed opportunities and misguided actions
taken by both sides of this war, none were as great as those by the ministers in London and British
Generals Howe and Burgoyne. However, of these three, one held a great deal of responsibility for
Britain s failure to suppress the American rebels by 1777. This person was indeed, General Howe.
General Howe is to blame for this failure because of all of the three listed, he was the most lethargic,
the most eager to surrender, and the one who failed to support his comrades. Some may claim that is
was General Burgoyne s responsibility due to his famous loss at Saratoga, New York. However, as
will be stated later, that failure will also ultimately fall at the hands of General Howe. While the
ministers in London acted out of their desire for authority over the colonies with little knowledge of
the situation in America, they are still not hold to most blame of the three. General Howe holds this
title because as it is known, wars are rarely determined by a single event as they are won through the
combined effect of a series of events. Before 1777, there were two main turning points in the War
which led to this failure of defeat the Americans by this time. The first is the Battle of

Describe Yourself As A Writer
When I was young, I always knew that college is important to the major that you choose. When I see
my aunt, I ask many questions about college and how it is like. I thought it would be challenging and
stressful. Then it was stressful because I want to improve my writing. When I see myself as a writer, I
think about the process, then I consider the improvements I need to make, and lastly the strengths I
have.
First, I think about the writing process. When the teacher or professor give me an essay, I start right
away. I start right away because I don t want my work to be late and I have other assignment to do for
other classes. Once I read the prompt, I start my outline to know what to write in my essay. I just think
about what I know and don t know, then put it onto paper. For the outline, I will do sentences or
sometimes words only. It depends on the topic or essay I write. I find the outline is a helpful way to
get started.
After the outline, I start researching the topic. I use the internet for the research. I use it because it is
helpful. It is helpful because I take examples of how to start. I use google and look at images of
essays. It provides inspiration for the essay. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

American Colonialism
Colonialism s effects are often noticed within certain ethnic and national groups. However, the roots
of the effects of colonialism extend far past the group; they begin in individual people. Conrad s Heart
of Darkness, Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? and Cullen s Heritage each display how the
unique environment created through the clashing of cultures allows individuals to redefine and
discover themselves. Mr. Kurtz embodies the redefinition of oneself through colonialism. He is
transformed from a man known for his promise, [for] his greatness, [for] his generous mind, and [for]
his noble heart (Conrad 70) into a manipulative leader of the natives because colonialism allows him
to escape the strict expectations of English life. In African colonialism, there are no rules. Kurtz takes
advantage of this freedom to fundamentally change himself, and he quickly sheds any semblance he
initially has of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
After his escapades in the heart of Africa, Marlow is described as Buddha like. Conrad s purpose for
describing him as such is because being surrounded by uncharted waters, unfamiliar territory, and
cannibals who show commendable amounts of resistance make Marlow more culturally aware. He
sees the complexity in the world; he realizes that Africa is more than just one of the many blank
spaces on the earth [that needs to be filled] with rivers and lakes and names (Conrad 4). This narrow
perspective is one he cultivated as a young boy and has carried with him until he travels to Africa.
Similarly to Marlow, the speaker in Dickinson s I m Nobody! Who are you? possesses self awareness.
The speaker knows that she is a nobody, and, since the tone of the piece is positive and unconcerned,
she is comfortable with that fact. Following his stint in Africa, Marlow, too, becomes more self aware
through participating in

Setting Archetypes
ARCHETYPAL SETTINGS 1. The River Almost any source of water will focus on the importance of
life. Without water there is no life. A journey on or down a river is often a metaphor for life s journey
or a character s journey, especially if the river is shown as a road or means of travel pulling or pushing
a character through changes. (Twain s Huck Finn) Rivers can also be a metaphor for the passage of
time (Big Fish) or the stages of a human life (creek, roaring river, sea; or the crossing of the river Styx
in Greek myths). Since rivers are often used as political borders or boundaries, crossing one may be
seen as a passing over or a decision that cannot be taken back. In Africa, and thus African literature,
rivers are the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Journeys on boats are usually long and fraught with dangers that are overcome. Boats are also related
to islands, since crew is isolated from the regular rules of society. 6. The Island The Island is a
metaphor for isolation. People on islands are separated from their society. This can have a positive or
negative effect on characters (Robinson Crusoe vs. Lord of the Flies) Without the rules of society; the
island setting strips away characters down to the very basics of humanity. 7. The Mountain The
mountain in Hindu (India) culture was seen as the center of the universe from which all things could
be seen. Since people climb up mountains, characters that climb the mountains can be seen as moving
upward on a spiritual/emotional journey. Biblically, mountains are places where God reveals his truths
to man. In nearly all stories mountains are mysterious, powerful places. 8. The Wasteland Often a
desert, the wasteland represents an emotionally/physically barren place or time in a character s
journey. A character is usually cleansed of fear or doubt and reconnects to his/her sense of faith or
inner strength. Characters usually emerge from the wasteland stronger and more focused. Occasionally
the wasteland wins and a character emerges from the wasteland insane. 9. The Pasture/Field The
pasture represents a simple farming life that is predictable and calm. Often referred to as a pastoral
setting, many characters either begin

The Role Of Dante In Dante Alighieri s The Divine Comedy
Virgil is given the role of guiding Dante through Hell and Purgatory in The Divine Comedy. When
Virgil guides Dante through Hell, he is showing him all of the suffering that the sinners go through,
and how Dante could end up. Dante Alighieri has Virgil represent human reasoning and the right path
in life. In The Divine Comedy, by Dante Alighieri, Virgil represents human reasoning and acts as
Dante s guide through Hell and Purgatory on Dante s way to heaven, and Virgil is the best person for
the job.
Virgil is Dante s guide through Hell and Purgatory. In the beginning of Inferno, Dante finds himself
alone in a dark wood and finds himself lost in life. He sees a mountain that is used to represent
Heaven, but as he tries to climb it, he is confronted by three beasts that represent sin, and runs away.
Dante finds Virgil, and asks to be lead through Hell and Purgatory. Virgil lives in Hell, so he is fit to
guide Dante through there. Virgil leads Dante through the 9 Circles of Hell and whos him all of the
suffering that sinners experience. While Dante and Virgil are in Purgatory, it is Virgil s job to take
Dante through the levels and show him that the people there have sinned, but then forgiven God.
Virgil explains that the people who used to be sinners had loved wrong, and once they released it, then
they turned to God. While Virgil acts as Dante s guide through Hell and Purgatory, he also has a larger
role in that he represents human reasoning. Part of human reasoning is

The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) characterizes workplace violence
as a demonstration of animosity coordinated toward persons at work or on duty, extending from
hostile or debilitating language to homicide. Workplace violence is a major occupational hazard for
healthcare providers local and global and needs more media and public attention. A report done by the
U.S. Bureau of Justice Statistics, an estimated 1.7 million workers are injured each year due to
assaults at work. Although homicides rates remain low in the healthcare setting, assaults remain the
highest than any other institution (Gacki Smith, et al., 2009). According to Bureau of Labor Statistics

A Deeper Look Into Indiana s Law
A Deeper Look into Indiana s Law Many thoughts should run through one s mind as they skim
through The Editorial Board of Terre Haute Tribune Star s It s time to expand Indiana s civil rights law
editorial piece. This editorial presents many flaws that can be spotted with one read through. The
opinion piece is written with good intentions; however, The Board commits quite a few errors in the
delivery. Inconsistencies and appeals to an already sympathetic audience make it difficult for this
editorial to convince any skeptics to switch sides on the issues that are raised. While The Board was
obviously passionate about this writing, the editorial is not effective due to insufficient evidence and
only one viewpoint among other oversights. This piece tries to raise concerns about Indiana s
wellbeing and shortcomings that all relate back to one law, the Religious Freedom Restoration Act
(RFRA), which gives businesses the right to exercise their religious beliefs when running their
operations. Unsupported evidence is one of the major setbacks in this mission of The Board. It begins
when The Board said, But RFRA backfired (par. 4) ( It s time to expand Indiana s civil rights law ).
There is no solid evidence of this assertion throughout the remainder of the editorial with only one
weak sentence to follow that statement which says, Despite attempts to fix it, Indiana continues to pay
for it through lost economic investment and a tarnished public image ( It s time to expand

Endothelial Cells Contribute Inflammation in Key Diseases
Endothelial cells are originated from embryonic mesoderm. It is a thin layer of cells found in the body
like in the blood vessels, heart and coverings of organs. It regulates permeability of blood flow all
around the body and maintain vascular homeostasis. If the body is not well taken care of due to
stressful lifestyle and not taking proper meals, endothelial cells can be inflamed and damaged leading
to key disease such as artherosclerosis, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and Alzheimer s
disease.
Atherosclerosis is a lipid storage disease where too much of lipid is deposited in endothelial of arteries
causing narrowing to prevent blood to flow. It is triggered by daily diet of consuming highly saturated
fat, hypertension and smoking. In healthy endothelial cells, leukocytes do not stick on to the
endothelial cells. During early phases of inflammation in endothelial cells, the leukocytes attach to the
arteries cell wall with the help of vascular cell adhesion 1 (VCAM 1) and penentrate into the
endothelial layer. VCAM 1 binds monocytes and T lymphocytes, the types of leukocytes found in
early atherosclerotic plaques. ( Libby P., 2006:456S) Atherosclerosis lesion is a foam cells whereby
macrophages engulf lipid particles. The lesion secretes cytokines and growth factors to promote
proliferation of smooth muscle. The increased of inflammatory markers like interleukin 6 (IL 6) and
interleukin 1 (IL 1) accumulated in the endothelial cells accerlate the progess of

Hypnosis Accuracy
How accurate is hypnosis? As the years move forward, human beings continue to forget information
that they had known as children once they had reached a certain age in adulthood. In order for people
to recall their lost memories, studies using hypnosis have used for that particular purpose. The
hypnotic procedure itself consists of a hypnosis group reverting back to the age of three while being
influenced by objects such as blankets or teddy bears from their childhood. Unlike the hypnosis group,
the post simulation control group were instructed by the research assistant in charge of the experiment
to fake hypnosis. Soon after, the post simulation interview took place. The researchers measured the
accuracy of the memory reports with a probability

Essay On Why College Athletes Should Be Paid
Throughout the years many schools have been caught paying their athletes money when they are not
allowed to. The National Collegiate Athletic Association, or the NCAA, makes billions of dollars
every year because of the popularity of their sports. When the school has a successful season they are
making millions of dollars and as a result, some schools are breaking the rules and they are trying to
pay players and recruits to entice them to come to their school so they can make even more money.
This has lead to a corrupt system and has many people asking whether it would be better to just pay
college athletes or not.
There have been many different times in which colleges have be caught paying their players. Some of
the more recent cases have occurred at the University of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Their reasoning for thinking this way is because their names and images are used all of the time.
College sports are the only sporting events in the world that bring in large amounts of money but do
not pay out to its athletes. Many advocates of paying the athletes think that the athletes put in enough
time and hard work to earn a paycheck, and they do not have the time to be employed anywhere else.
The supporter of this issue say that there is not a way of stopping the large companies from cashing in
on the student athletes. Many people in this camp think that the NCAA should not be allowed to call
themselves a nonprofit organization. These people find it unfair that coaches get paid so much and the
players get nothing. For example, Nick Saban, the University of Alabama s football coach, makes 11
million dollars per year (Swanson). Supporters of paying college athletes find it unfair that the
coaches are making so much money while the players are receiving nothing. One simple reason that
they feel that they should be paid is because they are making money for

My Father Is A Hero Or Villain Essay
My Father: Hero or Villain? A stranger once questioned my thirteen year old self, Would you rather
live an easy life or an interesting life? and in the moment without hesitation to think about it, I
responded an easy life. Ever since I was able to realize right from wrong, my immature mind always
struggled understanding why bad things happen to good people and why our world can t be at peace.
Or why must my body react anxiously? Or why my parents are divorced? Now, only God has the
answers to all these questions. However, God simply wants YOU to figure out the obstacles on your
own that appear throughout your growth. As I looked up with my arms wide open asking Uppie
uppie? ..my father says Okay EB, one last time as he picked me up and held me, I noticed his gestures.
Ever since I was young, I ve always had the power of observing and memorizing what surrounded me.
Then, it hit me. The strange characteristics my father held. His aggressive temper, the impatient OCD,
the odd jokes directed at my mother, the constant blaming as if he never made mistakes. Twas the
night time that I dreaded the most. His time to shine . His enjoyment was down in the basement
watching either football or baseball and through the thin walls I could hear that snap of a beer can
opening. Every single night. I was about eleven years old when I finally connected the dots. Those
dots meant everything but also meant nothing. My father is an alcoholic. At this developing age, I
never understood

Dualism and Artificial Intelligence
Mind body dualism is usually seen as the central issue in philosophy of the mind. The problem with
mind body dualism is that it is unknown whether the mind really is a separate entity from the human
body as Descartes states in his argument, or whether the mind is the brain itself. Descartes believed
that in a person existed two major components, the physical body and the nonphysical body which
was called the mind or soul. As a scientist, Descartes believed in mechanical theories of matter,
however, he was also very religious and did not believe people could merely be mechanical creatures
that ran like clockwork. And so, it was Descartes who argued that the mind directed thoughts. To
account for this, he split the world into two parts, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Turing, a physicalist, believed that artificial intelligence could be achieved in the future. Turing argued
that the mind was merely due to the physical aspects of the brain and so a machine could one day be
created that has a mind of its own, i.e. artificial intelligence. He created a test called the Turing Test to
determine whether a machine has artificial intelligence. In the Turing Test, an interrogator asks two
subjects a series of questions. One of the subjects is a person, the other is the computer. The goal is for
the person to imitate a computer and the computer to imitate the person. If the interrogator is fooled
into thinking that the computer is the human then the computer, according to Turing, is concluded to
have the ability to think and thus, have a mind. Turing argued that machines passing the Turing Test
were sufficient for ascribing thought. There were those who did not agree with Turing s belief that
computers would one day pass the Turing Test or that artificial intelligence could be created. A
philosopher by the name of Lady Lovlace challenged Turing s theory. She argued that machines could
never learn and adapt and so nothing creative could ever come from a machine. She claimed that

The Major Causes Of World War I
World War I was a global war that was centered in Europe and started on July 28, 1914 and continued
to November 11, 1918. It was a war that resulted in millions of casualties, but it paved the way for
major political changes, including revolutions in many nations involved in the war. Militarism,
alliances, and imperialism were the major causes creating tensions which began one of the most
violent and deadly war of European history.
Militarism is the belief or desire of a government or people that a country should maintain a strong
military competence and be prepared to use it in means necessary to defend or promote national

Prior to World War I Britain had been the most powerful nation in the world occupying one quarter of
the globe. British imperialism was driven chiefly by trade, the importation of raw materials and the

large fleet of mercantile vessels. France was also another major imperial power which it s holdings
included Indochina, some Pacific islands and several colonies in west and north west Africa. Spain
once ruled the Philippines and large parts of South America, though it s imperial power was
weakening rapidly. Germany s Empire included parts of China, Samoa, New Guinea and many
colonies in south west Africa. Russia ruled over Finland, Poland and several central Asian regions as
an imperial power. Land was in high demand for these imperial powers who were constanting fighting
over unclaimed land. Imperialism of unidentified land or and land being capable of being conquered
was a major cause of World War I because it caused these imperial powers to start war on each other.

  • 2. New Start Reflection This summer I had the opportunity to do New Start a program for incoming freshmen at the University of Arizona. The program is to support the transition from high school to college and throughout the program you gain knowledge and tips not only just about the college but about yourself. Using tools from class activities like SWOT and True Colors that helped me really understand who I am and what are my strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. Within this essay I will share with you my SWOT analysis and the things I learned about myself during the last few weeks. Strengths Personal values I believe speak a great deal about a person and who they are and I learned that my values reflect just that. During New Start we had an activity in class that forced us to pick from a list of personal values and narrow them down and rank them in order of importance. My top values included family, friends, school, and independence just to name a few. This activity was especially challenging for me but in the end it helped me really look at what truly is important to me. I had to apply this lesson from class in my life sooner than I expected. My grandmother passed away during New Start and I had to decide if I wanted to miss school and be with family but that also meant by missing school I d be missing out on important information. In the end I choose to go to school the next day and be with my family afterwards. That decision alone was very hard because in a situation such as mine there was a conflict of my personal values my family is very important to me but school is just as important to me. Although it was difficult for me to make that decision but the fact I had the ability to choose between two of my own personal values is why I ve chosen to place knowing and understanding my personal values as a strength. I know that throughout life there will be times when I will have to choose once again between my personal values and as student like I ve mentioned earlier I m going to make those decisions based on what matters to me and what won t always be there in the end. Another strength I have is goal setting towards the end of high school coming into this summer my top goal was to get a job. I ve tried my best to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Theme Of The Poem 1958 By Gwendolyn Mcewen In the poem 1958, Gwendolyn MacEwen describes the high school environment as it would have been in the late 1950 s. Popular fads among the teenagers during this era are explored in detail. The prevailing theme throughout the text pertains to the idea of belonging. The poem focuses primarily on the desire teenagers have to fit in. Throughout this response I will explore the ways in which this poem differs and relates to the high school environment today. Secondly I will analyze the connections between this poem and a modern day movie. Lastly, I will express the ways in which my personal experiences relate to the central message in the poem. Several elements of the high school environment during the late 1950 s still exist today. The author mentions that, those guys spoke in crazy cryptic monosyllables . This statement is still relevant today; however teenage boys now speak in a form of speech referred to as gangster slang . Typical words include sup or peace which are used to express phrases such as how are you? or see you later. In the poem McEwen says that, those girls said nothing and were mean and cracked gum . Mean girls still continue to grace the school hallways glaring at those more vulnerable. These girls tend to be the masterminds behind vicious rumours that spread like wildfire throughout the school. McEwen mentions that the boys learned shop and the girls sewed shaky seams in the dresses they would never wear. This statement ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Special Needs Cases Essay Special needs litigation is one of the most common legal issue dealt with in educational circles. IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Act) does not define appropriate which leaves the interpretation of an adequate level of educational services and responsibilities open to a great deal of subjectivity. This analysis provides a brief summary of special needs cases and the implications for school systems and educational administrators. In Cedar Rapids Community School District vs. Garrett F., the parents of a mentally coherent but wheelchair and ventilator bound student wanted the school district to provide nursing services for their child so he could attend school. The US Supreme Court decided that it was the school s responsibility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... These cases demonstrate the challenges that are brought before educators as they attempt to provide an appropriate education for each child. Special needs students must be evaluated individually and their individual education plan must be designed around realistic standards. School systems and administrators walk a tight rope between adequately meeting the needs of every student and balancing educational integrity issues with the fiscal budget. In a perfect world, there would be plenty to go around for everyone and everybody s needs could be met to the fullest. In reality, we are left to prioritize spending as best we can. Decisions within the schools must be made as quickly as possible based upon the legal precedents set forth by case law and within the financial constraints of the school. CEDAR RAPIDS COMMUNITY SCHOOL DIST. V.GARRET F. • 5. How Does Vonnegut Use Flashbacks In Slaughterhouse Five Kevin Amoah Ms Wrotten Honors World Literature 06/06/16 IS KURT VONNEGUT S SLAUGHTERHOUSE FIVE A GOOD ANTI WAR NOVEL? Mostly, not all soldiers are affected by the negative aspects of war like injures or death. However, more than half of these soldiers who come back from war mostly suffer from Post Traumatic Stress. In Kurt Vonnegut s slaughterhouse five, Vonnegut, the author, ues enormous flashbacks, disorder shifts in time, and the use of short phrases, so it goes to convey the idea of lack of sorrow for the death and ability to tell what s going to happen in the future due to flashbacks in order to show the negative and long lasting effects of war. In Vonnegut s Slaughterhouse 5, Vonnegut uses short phrases such as so it goes in order to show the idea that Billy, the main character, doesn t really have pity toward died people. This is because when Billy visited the Tralfamadorians the important he learned on The Tralfamadore was that when a person dies he only appears to die. He is still very much alive in the past, so it is very silly for people to cry at his funeral . ( Vonnegut 26). Billy finds his own explanation of the bombing and the death of so many innocent people. He turns to the Tralfamadorian belief that the deaths were unpreventable and had to happen because that was how they were supposed to happen. Neither he nor anyone else could change what destiny had decided would occur. At the thought of these deaths and all death Billy sees, he has only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Characteristics Of The Hissing Cockroaches Analysis: Gromphadorhina portentosa, commonly known as the hissing cockroach, lives within the tropical lowland rainforests of Madagascar among the dry litter on the forest floor. While multiple species of cockroaches have slender like feet, the hissing cockroach has pads and hooks (Figure 3, shows the adaptive hooks/visual description of cockroach). A young cockroach, a nymph, undergoes a process called metamorphosis where its shell sheds periodically to allow for growth. The process evolved approximately 20 million years ago (Figure 1, phylogenetic tree referencing common ancestor). Due to metamorphosis, it undergoes mitotic division of its mycetocytes, special cells that harbour symbiotic microorganisms, approximately 48 hours in a week. The hissing cockroach is an omnivorous scavenger and can consume both organic and inorganic food, although they prefer sweets, meats, and starches. Hissing cockroaches also have cellulase in their saliva, which is meant to break down crystallized cellulose. This trait was developed approximately 10 million years ago, causing two new distinct species (Figure 1, distinct species split). It responds to tactile and wind stimulus by turning away from the stimulus and running. As such, a roach will begin running between 8.2 and gradually to 70.2 m/s after its sensory cells experience stimuli. Conclusion: Evolution, the process by which a species gene pool changes over time, creates necessary variation in organisms for adaptation to a variety ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Being An Alcoholic This time they decided to send me out of town to a program in Arizona. I arrived there on a Friday, however, the program wasn t to commence until that Monday. There was no way I was going to check in and be on lockdown, knowing that I still had a weekend to play with. I checked into a hotel and prepared myself for, what I thought would turn out, a great time. I learned that things don t always turn out as planned. I hit the town running at full speed seeking the first bar I could locate to get things kicked off. Before I knew it, I had gone from one bar to another, even catching taxis to get to and from them. When I made it back to the hotel room, I was pretty loaded and should have called it quits. But there s another thing I ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But the party didn t end there. Later that Saturday afternoon, I was released on my own reconnaissance and I headed back to the room. I still had a full day to enjoy prior to checking in on that Monday and I had no plans on allowing it to go to waste. I had my wallet with my debit card in it and conveniently enough, there was an ATM machine in the lobby of the hotel. I withdrew additional funds from my bank account and once again I was out and about in pursuit of some to drink. I tried to convince myself to be more careful the second time around because I didn t want to repeat what I had just experienced the night before. Early on, everything was going as planned. I was drinking, feeling good and was still partially coherent. I was feeling well enough to call it quits, but the night still seemed young and I thought I d challenge a few more shots prior to retiring for that evening. I believe I can vaguely remember having one more drink before everything went pitch black again. By the time the lights came back on, once again, there I was on the county s floor as a repeat offender of public intoxication. There was, however, something different about this time. Before I was released that Sunday, one of the deputies pulled me to the side for a quick chat. He told me that I was found in a dark space behind an abandoned building with my shirt open and my pockets turned inside out missing all of its contents. I ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Keep reading and you ll find out what I mean! Some heros are known for saving the day and having a happy ever after but, for this hero, nothing good happened for a long time. This hero, who goes by Odysseus, went through very tough times before he even saw a glimpse of happiness after twenty long years. This hero s journey happened over a thousand years ago in the Ancient Greece. The monster archetype can be anything that you fear. The monster can also be anything that is a bad temptation. • 9. Management Accounting And Control Systems Essay In the last 20 years, the business environment has changed dramatically with the widespread adoption of the internet and other massive technological advances, it has been argued that with this new and volatile environment that management accounting and control systems are more important than ever to deal with the changing times. In this essay we will discuss whether management accounting and control systems are important in the new business environment, major changes to the business environment and how they have changed the role of management accounting and control systems, and finally we will study an organisation and recent changes that have affected its business environment. If we look at the definition of management accounting, it states that management accounting is a process that helps managers make informed decisions by creating planning and performance management systems that help to control a business and guide it to identify and realise the businesses strategy (Institute of Management Accounants, 2008). With new technology being created over the last 20 years, it is clear that business environments have changed wildly and will require managers to make very vital decisions regarding the operation of a business in order to succeed in the new environment. To this day, when I want to stop doing something that is difficult it s much easier to look back and say, I ve done something harder than this, just finish this up. According to an article on the New York Times, three collegiate wrestlers died within a three month span in 1997 all from cutting weight (Litsky). Cutting weight is when someone will try to drastically reduce their weight in a short period of time through a variety of methods. The deaths of these three collegiate wrestlers resulted in a hasty decision from the NCAA in an attempt to prevent any more injuries or deaths. An article by Terry Larimer on The Morning Call explains the that policy banned the use of rubber suits and saunas for use in weight cutting practices because they drastically increase body temperature and dehydration, which was the root cause for the deaths of these three wrestlers (Larimer). Larimer also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes, adding a seven pound weight allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to lose as much weight, with the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2 hours prior to the event rather than 24 hours (Larimer). This rule was enacted to discourage athletes from cutting weight on the basis that with less recovery time, losing too much weight will not be beneficial to the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In relation to Avatar, when deforestation occurs it will kill the animal s natural habitat and humans honestly don t care. Due to deforestation, animals lose their home making it quite difficult to survive in a new environment. It s harder for animals to adapt, this can lead to animal extinction that will affect everyone because life is a cycle, and animals are part of it. That match may be increasingly difficult if you are looking for the ideal dog to become part of a community. One of the most difficult challenges of aging of the loss of a pet. While it is not uncommon for retirement communities to allow small cats and dogs, the resident needs to be able to independently care for their pet either by themselves, family, or paid caregivers. As a geriatric social worker, I am a firm believer in the power of the human animal bond, and totally support seniors with maintaining a relationship with animals in whatever capacity they are able. Years ago I was working in a retirement community committed to improving the culture and climate in the nursing home by implementing the Eden Alternative. There were, however, four special admissions slots remaining, but Bakke was ineligible for these. The special admissions program at Davis was reserved for applicants from disadvantaged backgrounds, and these applicants, who were required to be from a racial minority group, were evaluated separately from the other regular admissions applicants. In both years that he applied, Bakke s GPA was close to the average for regular admittees, but significantly higher than that of the special admittees. His MCAT scores were well above both averages. Bakke was angered but decided to apply again in 1974. He was again rejected. Bakke then sued the medical school. He claimed that the special admissions program was an unfair racial quota, a violation of the 14th amendment. In its decision on the case of Allan Bakke, the Supreme Court ruled that racial quotas are unconstitutional, but that race can still be used as a factor in admissions. • 16. The Christian Worldview The Christian Worldview is very widely known in today s society. This religion has many strong beliefs about the creation of the world and what waits for believers in the afterlife. Psalms 111:10 gives a good idea of the foundation of the Christian worldview by saying. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. To him belongs eternal praise. (New International Version). The Christian worldview has very specific beliefs and expectations in God, humanity, Jesus and Restoration. According to the Christian Worldview, God is to be feared, known, and loved as the sovereign creator whom all should glory, honor, and praise. God is believed to have many characteristics, included but not limited to being unchanging, all powerful, all knowing, good, loving, jealous, faithful, and holy. These characteristics are believed to be true because they are seen through his eternal nature,, his omnipotence and his goodness (DiVincenzo, 2014). In Romans 1:20, the Holy Bible says, For his invisible attributes, namely, his eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly perceived, aver since the creation of the world, in the things that have been made. • 21. Who Is To Blame For The American Revolution In battling the British in the Revolutionary War, the American rebels did just as the great French military and political leader, Napoleon Bonaparte advised, Never interrupt your enemy when he is making a mistake . Though there were a great deal of missed opportunities and misguided actions taken by both sides of this war, none were as great as those by the ministers in London and British Generals Howe and Burgoyne. However, of these three, one held a great deal of responsibility for Britain s failure to suppress the American rebels by 1777. This person was indeed, General Howe. General Howe is to blame for this failure because of all of the three listed, he was the most lethargic, the most eager to surrender, and the one who failed to support his comrades. Some may claim that is was General Burgoyne s responsibility due to his famous loss at Saratoga, New York. However, as will be stated later, that failure will also ultimately fall at the hands of General Howe. While the ministers in London acted out of their desire for authority over the colonies with little knowledge of the situation in America, they are still not hold to most blame of the three. General Howe holds this title because as it is known, wars are rarely determined by a single event as they are won through the combined effect of a series of events. Before 1777, there were two main turning points in the War which led to this failure of defeat the Americans by this time. The first is the Battle of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is a thin layer of cells found in the body like in the blood vessels, heart and coverings of organs. It regulates permeability of blood flow all around the body and maintain vascular homeostasis. If the body is not well taken care of due to stressful lifestyle and not taking proper meals, endothelial cells can be inflamed and damaged leading to key disease such as artherosclerosis, heart disease, diabetes, kidney disease and Alzheimer s disease. Atherosclerosis is a lipid storage disease where too much of lipid is deposited in endothelial of arteries causing narrowing to prevent blood to flow. The problem with mind body dualism is that it is unknown whether the mind really is a separate entity from the human body as Descartes states in his argument, or whether the mind is the brain itself. Descartes believed that in a person existed two major components, the physical body and the nonphysical body which was called the mind or soul. As a scientist, Descartes believed in mechanical theories of matter, however, he was also very religious and did not believe people could merely be mechanical creatures that ran like clockwork. Turing, a physicalist, believed that artificial intelligence could be achieved in the future. Turing argued that the mind was merely due to the physical aspects of the brain and so a machine could one day be created that has a mind of its own, i.e. artificial intelligence. He created a test called the Turing Test to determine whether a machine has artificial intelligence. In the Turing Test, an interrogator asks two subjects a series of questions. One of the subjects is a person, the other is the computer. The goal is for the person to imitate a computer and the computer to imitate the person. If the interrogator is fooled into thinking that the computer is the human then the computer, according to Turing, is concluded to have the ability to think and thus, have a mind.
