Environmental Analysis Strategy Development for Emi Music
INTRODUCTION
The online music market is a highly competitive market which has exploded with a large number of
competitors in the recent years. Players such as iTunes, Napster and AmazonMP3 dominate this
market with revenues being made by all players in the market exceeding US$4.2 billion in 2009
(http://www.ifpi.org/content/library/DMR2010.pdf). The online digital music download market
currently consist of 400 legal music services engaged in providing 260 types of products which

In summarizing it can be said that environmental scanning is important to the marketing planners in
terms of assisting in formulation of objectives which in turn forms the basis for strategy
formulation for the future.
ENVIRONMENTAL ANALYSIS
When considering the development of a suitable strategy for EMI, it has to be preceded by an
environmental analysis which will assist in identifying the forces operating in the environment and
help in developing objectives for the future.
a) Macro Environmental Analysis
Macro environmental analysis helps marketing planners in identifying the factors which affect the
industry as a whole, in this case the Music industry which will create industrial breakpoints leading
to opportunities and threats for the existing players in the market including EMI. The analysis takes
into consideration the Political, Economic, Social, Technological, Ecological and Legal
environments and the changes of which needs to be taken into consideration while developing
strategies.

Fear In The Alchemist
H. P. Lovecraft has once quoted in his book of Supernatural Horror in Literature that, the oldest and
strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the
unknown. The fear of the unknown is the greatest fear among all fears; meanwhile, the way to
achieve our dreams, or put it in different words, our Personal Legend, lies within the fear of the
unknown. The spiritual adventurous, fantasy novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, brings
out the journey of a young boy named Santiago searching for his Personal Legend. The role of fear
dominates the story of Santiago s journey of achieving his Personal Legend; the confrontation with
the fear of the unknown by Santiago throughout the story has become... Show more content on

I am passionate about visiting different buildings and taking photos of them when I travel. The
buildings amaze me by the height, the elegance and contemporary design and even the heritage
buildings that represents the history of the country. There are some designs that are noteworthy, for
example, the ArtScience Museum in Singapore, the Petronas Tower in Kuala Lumpur, Sydney
Opera House, Taipei 101, The Town Walls in Rothenburg ob der Tauber, Germany, and so on. They
are all fascinating constructions where no one can resist visiting them while travelling. I have
always thought that becoming an architect is just an effortless work, until I searched the
experiences of a real architect. There was one architect who elucidated that it would be a lengthy
and tedious with all the studying that I would have to do. First, there are four years of
undergraduate architecture program, then I have to gain one year of working experience. After
one year of working, I have to get back to studying master degree of architecture for two years,
after that, I will have to work and take exams to become a registered architect. After seeing the
immense workload to become an architect, I feared that I cannot make it through all the
studying, exams and most of all, high standards of work. The path towards my ambition of
becoming an architect faded from my mind, and I had no idea how to renew my vision. I dreaded
about this, and then I decided to talk with my parents. They have said that I should challenge
myself with a tough task, then I would know what I am capable of. In The Alchemist, Santiago has

Objectivism And Individualism In Ayn Rand s Anthem
What would it be like if we lost all sense of being an individual? Doing everything for the sake of
the people around us? Imagine a world that is so highly collectivized that the word I has been
banned. Objectivism is a system of philosophy created by Ayn Rand, a Russian American novelist.
It has four main principles: objective reality, absolute reason, individualism, and laissez faire
capitalism. The concept of objective reality is where the name Objectivism originated. Basically, it
means that outside our own personal perceptions, there is one true reality happening. Objectively,
there are things going on in the world whether or not a person is there to see them. Objectivism s

My Outlook On Student Assessment
One aspect of teaching that I find particularly challenging in my career is student assessment. It is a
gray area that is constantly being analyzed and transformed by myself, colleagues, administrators
and the educational community as a whole. As Huhn states, assessment means being keenly aware
of what students know and understand, having sufficient evidence of this understanding, and
offering a grade that accurately reflects this. As a Kindergarten teacher my outlook on student
assessment varies greatly from many other grade level teachers. I view student assessment as an
ongoing journey, not a final destination. I feel fortunate that I am not forced to assign points and
letter grades to quantify student achievement. As a district... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Validity and reliability are cornerstones to this type of classroom. It is critical for teachers to ensure
student assessments used in the classroom possess these qualities. Valid assessments require
accurate feedback and exactness of the teacher s inferences about a student s ability. Reliable
assessments must be both repeatable and dependable. On the assessment continuum there are three
types of assessment that can be delivered to students. Each of these categories of assessments
serves a different purpose. Diagnostic assessments are given before learning occurs. This type of
assessment is used to identify where the students are at in learning right now, as well as any
misconceptions they may have. Diagnostic assessments are critical to gathering student information
to help teachers plan content to be taught, as well as to differentiate their instruction. Examples of
diagnostic assessments would be prior knowledge and skill checks and learning preference surveys.
Formative assessments are used while learning is taking place. The aim of this type of assessment
is to improve student learning, not just measure it. These assessments can be both formal and
informal, and may include quizzes, oral questioning, teacher observations, and think alouds.
Although these assessments are used to evaluate students learning and progress, they should not be
factored into a student s grade. Formative assessments should be used by teachers to guide
instruction to

WHY HAS TERRORISM BECOME SUCH AN IMPORTANT ISSUE OVER THE LAST 40
YEARS?
There are many reasons why terrorism has become such an important issue over the last 40 years.
In this paper I will be exploring the answers to this question through three related topics; 1) the
threat from terrorism; 2) why people join terrorist groups and; 3) dealing with terrorism. I will be
using the sources provided and historical facts related to three groups; the IRA, the PLO and Al
Qaeda.
Section 1 The threat from terrorism
Terrorism has been defined in many ways and not everyone agrees with any one definition. The
UK government defines it as: The threat of, for the purpose of advancing a political, religious or
ideological cause, of action which involves ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although both are personal opinions, they are from opposite sides of the conflict and support each
other.
It also is well documented that the people who joined the IRA wanted Northern Ireland to be
independent just like Southern Ireland after it became independent in 1916. The IRA s own stated
aims were to defend their nation, to remove British troops from N. Ireland and to make it a part of
the rest of Ireland as one country.
People join al Qaeda for various reasons loosely connected with fighting foreign occupiers,
political motivations and religious ideology. One of the main reasons why people join al Qaeda is
to fight America and other western governments who are seen as invaders or aggressors against
Muslim lands and their populations. They also strongly focus on the US backed occupation of
Palestine and the Al Aqsa mosque (in Jerusalem) by Israeland the US troops that are based in
Saudi Arabia home to the holiest mosque in Islam. This has been supported by statements from al
Qaeda itself. This is also supported by source 10 a statement by Osama bin Laden made in 1998.
After pointing out the political and military injustices of the Americans and their allies he quotes
verses from the Quran to back his argument for Muslims to kill Americans and their allies. Source
4 is a similar statement made by al Qaeda which further proves the motives. Whilst these are

The Success Of Nike s The Find Your Greatness Campaign
During the 2012 London Olympics Nike Launched their Find your Greatness Campaign . This
Campaign was meant to make the everyday athlete strive to their personal goals and achieve
greatness. Nike tried to differentiate itself from competitors by featuring amateur athletes compared
to professional athletes. Nikeintended to propose their idea of greatness, trying to show it s not
restricted for only the chosen few. But rather, it is something we are all capable of. Their
message was to inspire anyone who wants to achieve greatness and that Nike products, from shoes
to watches to shorts, would help you achieve this, as well as helping to motivate yourself to do
more. In the commercial titled The Jogger , a part of the Find your Greatness campaign, proves to
be convincing through intense emotional appeal, the strong credibility from Nike, and the logical
feeling that we can all achieve greatness.
The commercial starts out silent, panning over a open road, out in the country, with a single
silhouette of a person running at the end of it. You can slightly hear the sound of the runners
shoes scraping the asphalt and his heavy breathing. The narrator then begins to talk about
greatness. How it s just something we made up, and many of us believe that it s a gift reserved
for a few chosen, and that the rest can only stand by and watch. All while the runner is getting
closer to the camera, at this point you can now tell that he is overweight kid and struggling to run

This paper is a critical analysis of two contrasting research articles which have come from human
services related journals. The research articles have been selected as they adopt contrasting
approaches to research qualitative and quantitative. The objective of this analysis is to highlight
and interpret the interrelated paradigms that all forms of research are underpinned by. Theoretical
underpinnings of research play a crucial role throughout all research paradigms which consequently
guide and determine the direction research will take. It is important to understand that this paper is

The findings of this study indicated that professionals working with Aboriginal children and
adolescents need to be conscious of the importance of family and identity. Furthermore, it is critical
that improvements are made to accessibility of mental health services for Aboriginal children,

mental health needs. The second research article was selected from The Early Childhood Education
Journal and is titled A Quantitative Study of Head Start Children s Strengths, Families
Perspectives, and Teachers Ratings in the Transition to Kindergarten (Robinson Diamond, 2013).
This study explored the connection between preschool children s social interpersonal skills and
their transition to kindergarten in mid western America. One hundred and thirty three preschool
children participated in this study over a two year period using three measures of testing. In the
year leading up to commencing kindergarten the children s social interpersonal skills were
evaluated by their teachers. In the following year, parents/guardians and teachers were then
required to report on the children s adjustment to kindergarten. The results of this study found that
there was no connection between parents/guardians and teachers reports of

The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay
The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th
century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the
Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap
labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after
an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers
from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies
to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican
migrant labor. The Okies reinforced farming in California through the skills they took with them,...

Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to
1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East
Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words,
they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some
were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory).
However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It
was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which
transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good
for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this
significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl
would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is.
Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used
primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that
The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the
technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the

Due to the cheap rate that Wal Mart is able to buy its products from suppliers, it is able to
provide customers with even bigger bargains to encourage them to shop at its stores. In addition
to its low prices, Wal Mart should continue with its current strategy of large, super centers, which
is basically a one stop shopping experience for everything you may need or want. The one stop
shop experience is appealing to customers in that it makes shopping easier. To provide the ease
of shopping Wal Mart is guaranteeing that the customers will find what they want when they
want it. This is supported by convenient presentation and the right level of service every time
the customer shops. In doing so, Wal Mart can appeal to an even larger market. According to
pages 151 and 152 in the textbook, this opportunity would become apparent if Wal Mart used a
low cost strategy where the business produces basic, no frills products for a large market of
price sensitive shoppers. New locations and store types offer Wal Mart opportunities to exploit
market development. They diversified from large super centers, to local and mall based sites,
such as their Wal Mart Neighborhood Markets and their Marketside stores. Using a focus low cost
strategy, page 153 in the textbook, that enables Wal Mart to realize the opportunity of appealing to

Gone With The Wind Film Analysis
Gone With The Wind is classic a 1939 movie about the pre civil war to post civil war era. It was a
major step in the movie industry many people loved what the movie resembled and how it related
to the events that occured during that era. The movie is famously known for the scene where
Rhett tells Scarlet Frankly my dear, I don t give a damn. Soon after he leaves. It s also known for
the scene where Rhett is telling Scarlett that she needs kissing badly.
The film opens with Scarlett O Hara surrounded by admirers, but she is crushed when her father,
Gerald O Hara, tells her of Ashley Wilkes upcoming marriage to his cousin Melanie Hamilton.
Scarlett s father also reminds her of the importance and permanence of the land and their home,
Tara, but she is too distraught to listen to him.
At a barbeque the next day at Twelve Oaks, the neighboring plantation, Scarlett is surrounded by
even more admirers, but she is overtaken by jealousy when she sees Ashley and Melanie together.
The roguish Rhett Butler sees Scarlett on the staircase and expresses interest in her, but Scarlett
corners Ashley in the library to confess her love for him. When Ashley says they are too different
to be together and leaves, Rhett reveals he has been listening the whole time.
The war quickly follows. Scarlett agrees to marry Charles Hamilton and holds the ceremony a
day after Ashley and Melanie wed. Soon after, Scarlett receives a letter informing her of Charles
s death in the war. Scarlett travels to Atlanta to stay with Melanie and her aunt, and while there
she meets Rhett again. Now a cynical war hero, Rhett pays $150 to dance with Scarlett at a
charity ball. Those listening are shocked by the offer, but Scarlett seizes on his offer as her only
chance to dance, since she is in her mourning period, and agrees. Afterward, Rhett visits her
regularly.
The South begins to crumble as the war continues and deaths mount. Scarlett works as a volunteer
nurse tending to wounded and dying soldiers. She still pines for Ashley, who during his leave
makes Scarlett promise to look after Melanie. Atlanta is attacked by the Yankees, and in the
resulting chaos Scarlett is forced to help deliver Melanie s baby when the house slave, Prissy,

Marie Ationnette Research Paper
Marie Ationnette was born as the 15th child into the Austrian royal family in 1755. At the early
age of 14, she was married off in 1770 to the dauphine of France, Louis. At 19 she became queen of
France, becoming an embodiment of the ancien regime, eventually becoming the symbol of the
excesses of the monarchy and their irresponsible spending, earning her the name of Madame deficit.
Marie Ationnette was significant to the revolution, for her symbolism of lavish spending, her
scandals, and her role in the march of the women provoked the people to overthrow the Monarchy.

Her life as queen is described in detail in the textbook, however it sheds little light on why she is
significant. I believe it missed some key points as to why she is significant to the french revolution.
Although it talks about how the Affair of the diamond necklace angered people, it doesn t talk
about how her extravagant spending infuriated people enough to the extent that they blamed her for
their poverty. I believe that this should be mentioned because it is one of the reasons that people
started to rebel against the monarchy. Another key detail the textbook missed is her involvement in
the March of the Women. Without the rumour of her hoarding bread, the Monarchy and National
Assembly would never have moved to paris which signified the change in power and reforms.
Lastly, the fact that she fired Turgot was briefly explained, however it affected the taxations system
in France heavily. had she not fired him, the Nobles would have been taxed, which could have
brought France out of debt, which is very significant. Because Marie Ationnette heavily influenced
the French revolution, she should have been talked about more in the

Susan Burton In The Foreword By Michele Alexander
Michele Alexander writes a Foreword in Becoming Ms. Burton, where she makes a bold
comparison after explaining an unidentified woman: Some people know this woman by the name
Harriet Tubman. I know her as Susan (xi). Alexander compares Susan Burton to Underground
Railroad heroine, Harriet Tubman. Over the course of the Foreword, it covers what Susan Burton
does, how she is helping many individuals, and essentially saving lives of those in need, much like
Harriet Tubmandid. This comparison is crucial in setting up the idea of how special Susan Burton
is, before revealing any major information about her life. Alexander, by putting Ms. Burton next to
such an important and inspirational historical figure, gives the readers and idea of how incredible
Susan is. Throughout the book, the reader can go back to the comparison made by Alexander, and
see how accurate it truly is.
Prompt #2 In Becoming Ms. Burton, it s sufficient to say Susan has suffered many high and low
points in her life. There are many factors out of Susan s control that are responsible for the
downfalls she experiences. After going over the internal and external factors, I ve narrowed it down
to three: race, gender, and home life. All three factors share the same problem; all are Susan s
unearned disadvantages in life. What I mean by unearned disadvantage is that Susan suffers from
the consequences of being African America, a woman, and having not an ideal upbringing. To get

Bog Bodies
This book informs the reader about bog bodies and how crucial they are to scientists because
they re a journey to the past. Bog bodies are bodies that were deposited in a bog shortly after
death, they were then naturally preserved in the bog. To clarify why they re so important, bog
bodies are usually so well preserved that their skin, intestines and other parts of their body remain.
Scientists study them and they are able to find when they died, using radiocarbon analysis, and
how they died which is only possible it s not a skeleton because certain wounds can only be seen
on skin and not on bones. There was a section in that text that impacted me, it was: With new tests

Scientists look at only a few apparatus to discover additional information about the past, they
analyze fossils, artifacts, preserved bodies, and ancient architecture. With bog bodies gone, that
leaves a miniscule amount of items to study. Artifacts or items belonging to ancient people don t
provide tremendous amounts of information. Additionally, fossils belong to a whole other category,
animals and plants from prehistoric times. Consequently, this doesn t provide information about
primitive culture and don t assist scientists seeking data on primeval civilization. Furthermore, bog
bodies are probably the most complex sources of enlightenment because they can provide clothing,
weapons, and materials of specific eras, as well as informing us about their actions. For instance,
of scientists suspected the person was sacrificed we can conclude that whatever civilization they
were from practiced human sacrifice. In all honesty, bog bodies would be a grand loss because
they re far more intriguing than other artifacts. Considering this, bog bodies supply insight about
someone s life and it simulates reading an autobiography because you find out multitudes of
information about the person, even if they re dead. Another bog body they studied was the Yde

were studying her remains, they found at she had scoliosis, which impairs how you walk
because it s a mild spinal curvature. The toes of her right foot also signified that she might ve
been slightly pigeon toed. Scientists also noticed that she was stabbed and strangled with her on

Remembering The Lost Research Paper
Remembering the Lost
(Memorialize)
All over the world, there are people who achieve such great achievement, that when they die, there
is a monument of some type that might be built for them. This doesn t have to be just when a
person of great ability to do something dies, but people might also have memorials when there is
an extreme sacrifice that was made. This might be because of hard times that were going on, and
the people who make the monument have to determine the size they want it and what materials they
are going to use, etc. There are many different procedures a person might have to go through in
order to determine what they want to do to remember somebody or a certain time period that is
now gone. Three factors a group should consider in memorializing a person or event are why it
would be important to remember, where it will be located, and what will come of doing so. First
of all, it is very important to consider why the person or time period is an important thing to
remember. Before building something like this, people need to realize that there will be many
people who see the monument and wonder what the meaning of it is. When somebody decides to
build one, they need to ask themselves what the importance is. For example, if something really

Why Government Has Implemented Policies And Developed...
California has suffered several droughts throughout the decades and is the reason why government
has implemented policies and developed water management. The first drought recorded was in
1924, due to the severe drought and economic losses to the farming industry the irrigation system
and large reservoirs were created to support agricultureand cities (Lund). The second drought
recorded lasted six years from 1928 to 1934, at the time the construction of the Central Valley
Project became the standard design of water system until 1976 (Lund). Water conservation was
implemented when a devastating two year drought from 1976 to 1977 occurred (Lund). Water
conservation reduced water usage by 40 percent in the major cities in California and permanent
water conservation plans became established for cities(Lund). The drought from 1988 to 1992
lasted four years and raised the concern of managing water(Lund). The drought from 2007 to 2009
caused Southern California to reduced the consumption of water from the rivers and Delta water
supply(Lund ). This drought also affected the agricultural industry with the loss of approximately
21,000 job (Lund). In 2009, legislature passed a 20 percent water conservation target in the
cities(Lund). The droughts that California has endured are the reason why government has taken
action in implementing different methods of water distribution, conservation, and water
management. At the present time 41 percent of California is in

Conformity Quotes In Fahrenheit 451
Don t step on the toes of the dog lovers, the cat lovers, doctors, lawyers, merchants, chiefs,
Mormons, Baptist, Unitarians, second generation Chinese, Swedes, Germans, Texans
,Brooklynites, Irishmen, people from Oregon, or Mexico. (Bradbury 57). This quote, a
statement from Captain Beatty, is an example of how conformity is a big ideology in the
society. His statement proves that they believe conforming removes conflict. Take away
opinions, likes, dislikes, and everyone is happy. Tell the people how they should feel and what
they should believe. Montag s society s idea of a utopia is that compliance is honing. Mildred
backed away as if she were suddenly confronted by a pack of mice that had come out of the floor.
(Bradbury 66). In this quote, Bradbury describes Mildred s reaction to being presented books by
Montag. An example of complying to the law. She reacts in fear to illegal objects. She is unsure
of why she s apprehensive of the books, other than that because the society says she should be. If
a book, tradition, or common practice, anything human, doesn t conform to the societal standards,
then it is offensive, therefore in need of being burned, or forgotten. They erase books to erase the
past. Erase tradition. An example to support the previous statement is when Beatty says, Colored

Advantages And Disadvantages Of Dry Bulk Cargo
From grains to coal and from sugar to cocoa, dry bulk cargo cover a range of produce and raw
materials that have two features in common: they are unpacked and are homogeneous. These two
properties make it easier for dry bulk cargo to be dropped or poured into the hold of a bulk carrier.

Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor
CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION
1.1.History of opioid research
Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This
field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German
pharmacist Friedrich SertГјrner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine
after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second
predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as
anesthetic in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993).
In 1898, the Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was
a non prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing
analgesia, and more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin
was suspended in 1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001,
Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939, Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not
related to morphine. This was followed by the discovery of methadone by Max BochmГјhl and
Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction
free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova, 2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid
antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. The later compound is still widely used in research as well
as clinically

Parthenon Research Paper
The Parthenon
The Parthenon or its full name which is the Periclean Parthenon of Athens is a classical Greek
structure ordered by the Athenian General at that time, General Pericles, who was responsible for
the construction of many important temples. The Parthenon was considered the best temple built
by Pericles. It was built as a replacement for a damaged Athenian temple, which was destroyed by
the Persian Empire in 480 BCE. The construction of the Parthenon was in the hands of two
architects Iktinos and Kallikrates. The cost of the constructions was 469 silver talents. Soon in the
middle of the 5th century BCE the construction of the Parthenon had begun. It had costed 469 silver
talents for the construction of the Athenian temple. In 432 BCE, the construction of the Athenian
temple finished with the same designs like many other Greek temples. The majority of many
Greek temples had the same structural design, with lots of supporting columns to hold up the
triangular roof. Inside is an interior room where a statue for all who come to worship is located.
The interior room was too small to fit all the worshippers inside, so the worshipper had to stay
outside to pray, unless they wanted to bring offerings to Athena. Inside the interior room of the

result, producers try to advance green capitalism to urge consumers to purchase their ostensibly

Arabian Nights Research Paper
Arabian Nights Essay The stories of The Arabian Nights examine the idea of living a more
meaningful life. Indeed, the stories suggest that certain life lessons need to be learned in order to
live a more prosperous and meaningful life. In each story, therefore, Sheharezade imparts a great
deal of wisdom to her husband, the Sultan Shariar, in an attempt to change his perspective on life,
and to save her own. From her stories he learns, firstly, that in order to live well a person must
accept responsibilityfor their actions. The sultan also learns that trust and loyalty, either given or
betrayed, has a significant impact on a person s capability to live a life with meaning. Finally, he
learns that wealth offers opportunity to accomplish great good or great evil; however, it is
important for a truly successful person to treat wealth responsibly and to value people more than
material items. From every story she tells him, both the Sultan and the viewer understand more
about the importance of living a truly meaningful life and how to do so. One lesson that a
number of characters must learn in order to change their ways and live more prosperously is to
accept responsibility for their actions. In the story Bak Bak the Sultan s Jester, for example, when

The Bottled Water Problem
The Bottled Water Problem
Introduction
Most of Americans today prefer drinking from bottled water other than regular tap water. Bottled
water is definitely more efficient and more reliable than tap water in many ways because it is
easy to carry around. The problem with bottled water is that even though it is very easy to carry
around, it is also very easy to dispose of. According to the International Bottled WaterAssociation,
the consumption increased 4.1 percent in 2011 alone. Furthermore, a report by the Earth Policy
Institute (EPI) says that the consumption of bottled water doubled worldwide between 1999 and
2004. People throw away the bottled water so easily and the plastic that it is made of has many
chemicals that can hurt the environment. The Bottled Water: Friend or Foe article says Bottled
water also damages the environment because the bottles become unnecessary garbage and require
large quantities of energy to be produced. There is two types of chemicals that are harmful,
phthalates and biphenyl A, they are mainly used to make the plastic flexible. Bottled water is
damaging to the environment, has many health risks, and is a waste of fossil fuels that can be used
for something else more important than just making simple bottles to contain water.

improve health across the nations for the citizens to have healthier lives. Many medicines and

The Role Of A Pharmacist Essay
Introduction
Today in the 21st century the roles of pharmacist have expanded tremendously. Before pharmacist
had the role of solely dispensing drugs. Pharmacists were limited to only being regulatory or
clinical pharmacist. Back then they were called medical purveyors who were much like today s
regulatory pharmacist and hospital pharmacist who are similar to hospital pharmacist. Now
pharmacists carry many roles in healthcare. Pharmacist can play roles in public health, community,
health systems, state, and federal government.
Leadership
Leadership can be defined as the action of leading a group of people or an organization.
Pharmacist fit the definition of what leadership means perfectly. Pharmacists lead a group of people
each and everyday from, the pharmacy technicians, the pharmacy cashiers in retail, and to the
patients they encounter each day. Also, pharmacist can help lead other healthcare leaders like
medical doctors and nurses into making the best choice for treating the patient. A pharmacist role in
healthcare is to be medicine experts and to make sure the patient is accurately treated with the right
medicine. They achieve this with a group of people not alone.
Public Health Pharmacist
The expansion of the roles pharmacist is growing so quacking that some roles have not been
formally classified. Public health pharmacist has not been formally classified at this time, but they

Effects Of Sesame Street On The Education Of Young Children
When introduced to the idea of an epidemic, people are urged to think of viruses, fashion trends,
or even peaks of crime. One does not see something as virtuous as Sesame Street to be a wide
spreading contagion. Yet, Sesame Street provoked a social epidemic as one of the most influential
children s television programs of its time. Malcolm Gladwell has studied the effects of Sesame
Streeton the education of young children in his novel, The Tipping Point. He has three overall
generalizations of all epidemics, including the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and the
Power of Context. I will apply these generalizations to his example of Sesame Street to support
Gladwell s argument. In addition, I will support his argument using the philosophical theories of
Alasdair McIntyre and Theodore M. Porter. Overall, Gladwell poses a convincing argument that
the success of Sesame Street is due to the complete combination of his three generalizations. The
beginning of Sesame Street as an epidemic began with the very start of the television program.
Television producer, Joan Ganz Cooneyembarked on a mission to create a children s learning
epidemic (Gladwell 89). Many epidemics that are covered in Gladwell s novel are unintentional.
The producers of Sesame Street, however, purposefully researched the effect of their show to ensure
that it was impactful. It is arguable whether or not they wanted to provoke an epidemic, but the
effects of the program were completely intentional. In

How It Will End By Duhamel Summary

relationship, it is inevitable that confrontations are bound to occur. Whether small disagreements
created from minor issues, to mediocre arguments based on daily matters, to serious incidents that
can reflect relationship taboos, it is a couple s perception and understanding of each other that can
strengthen or weaken their union. The poem How It Will End by Denise Duhamel portrays two
couples involved in similar matters as those previously described. One couple is having, what
appears to be, an argumentat the beach and the second couple is watching them from afar, as they

In Duhamel s poem, this is clearly represented. One couple appears to be far from having a happy
day at the beach; they re arguing, the female s body language reveals a need for acceptance,
distance, and rejection. The second couple s belief of what is stirring and their relationship
comparison based on these thoughts, solidifies the underlying truth that marriage is not easy.
Lines 20 to 21: I start to coach the girl to leave her no good lifeguard, but my husband predicts he
ll never leave, are depicting the couple s mirroring on what they would actually do in this
situation. The relationship judgement concept continues in lines 23 through 25 with That s
your problem you think every fight is funny. You never take her seriously, and he says, You
never even give a guy a chance and you re always nagging where a compromise issue is
portrayed this time, obviously on both couples. Relationships require you to extend yourself for
the sake of the other, that is collectively understanding each other s needs, accept mistakes, and
practice forgiveness.Should relationships be compared to others? Is the concept of assumption
safe for a union? Is proof necessary for a couple to be happy? Nothing good ever comes of
comparing your relationship to someone else s. It is better to acknowledge that each bond is
unique and has its strengths and weaknesses. One of the most important reasons not to compare
relationships is that you re not seeing the full picture. Furthermore, in the last two lines of the
poem: She has her arms around his neck and is crying into his shoulder, He whisks her up into his
hut. We look around, but no one is watching us it confirms that the second couple has issues lying
deep beneath their own. Once you begin comparing relationships, you ll probably start focusing on

language, between the people then they can unite and be great. The reason I mentioned that
language doesn t stop dividing people is because even within a certain type of people there is

The interesting part of the two matters I will be addressing here is that an individual almost has to

I wish I could ve done something differently, I wish I knew my daughter had these crazy thoughts
in her head. How could I have never noticed? How could I not notice the tension between my

I were all sitting at our old barn wood dinner table, In the middle of our formal dining room with
light grey walls and deep red accent wall. On that wall we have a bunch of picture of Jack and Jill
growing up, most of them are Jack but no one ever seems to notice. We don t have too many

Racism In Octavia Butler s Parable Of The Sower
The novel Parable of the Sower was published in 1993 by the black female author Octavia Butler.
Butler was 46 when her novel was published, subjecting her to racism her entire life
(Biography.com). She has created a dystopian world predicting life from 2024 and on. This
dystopian world has everything to do with raceand how these different races live among one
another. The novel illustrates how difficult it is to live and even travel with other races, and how
them doing so puts them at a higher risk of being attacked. Race is included in this novel because
racism was a problem in the past, and is still a problem today. The characters in this novel are put
at higher risks due to the fact that they travel in mixed groups.

Butler has specifically chosen the characters in the book and their ethnicities, due to what was
happening in the real world around her. She created this dystopian world predicting what the
world would be like twenty years later knowing that racism would still be a problem. She was
right. There has been a rise in racism over the last couple years, and I have noticed especially
when Donald Trump became president, that racism has gotten completely out of hand. Every
race are given stereotypes that are hurtful and not true, but some people still label an entire race
off of something that one person might have done. An example of these stereotypes would be
saying all muslims are terrorists, when we know that s not the case. Racism has gotten so bad
that black lives matter has become a huge movement. Pew Research Center had conducted a
survey and the results are as followed. 59% of Americans say racism is a big problem in our
society, while 29% say it is somewhat of a problem and 12% say racism in the U.S. is a small
problem or not a problem (Neal). This survey included 1,893 adults. That s about 776 adults out
of 1,893 that think that racism is kind of a problem, and or not really a problem at all. That s a
ridiculously high amount of people that think that racism is not really a problem. That 41% are
the people that are racist, or have no problem with racist people treating others the way that they
do. Racism has been a problem since before the 1600s and is still a problem in today s society.
Butler had predicted in the 1990s that racism would still be around even in 2024 through the
dystopian world in her

My Landslide Poem Meaning
The song Landslide performed by Fleetwood Mac has been a piece of my life for as long as I can
remember. I recall my sisters and I sitting at our kitchen table in Orlando reciting the words to
the song as easily as reading a book. Once we moved to Connecticut, this song still stayed apart
of our lives and I have continued to listen to this song consistently to this day. Over the years, the
meaning of the song has adapted to what I was going on to in life. As I grew older, the song
gained more meaning than when I would listen to it as child. When I was younger, around the age
of five, the song did not have much meaning to me. It was simply another song with a catchy
melody. I truly did not understand the point the artist was attempting to get across to the listener
through the metaphors in the lyrics. The meaning behind it was alien to me. I would sing the
words, but the significance behind the words I sang rung blank in my brain.... Show more content on

I was scared and did not know what to expect for this next step in my life. At this time, I was
incredibly insecure. My older sisters and brother always told me that freshman year was when
things begin to change. You may make new friends, you may lose friends, you may get good
grades, and you may get bad grades. They reminded me that our high school was three times as
big as the middle school. With that, they also told me that I may get overwhelmed but was
nothing I could do about it and I had to go no matter what. In the song, the songwriter questions
her ability to handle the next part of her life. She asks herself if she can handle whatever life has
to throw at her even if it does get hard. This part of the song really spoke to me. It showed me that
everyone is vulnerable at times, and it is a normal feeling when parts of your life are starting as

Building A Project For Public Welfare
INTRODUCTION
Public private partnership refers to an association between a Government agency and a private
sector organization that intend to complete a project for public welfare. This relationship is
basically used to finance, build and purpose projects like public transportation systems, conference
centers and parks. Aiming for a project to be accomplished on priority or may be sooner can be
allowed in the association with public private partnerships.
Typically, the PPP can be referred neither a privatizationnot a partial privatization. Privatization has
usually been defined as a course of shifting the ownership, functioning or management of a service
or action wholly or partly, from the government to the private sector.
The key difference between the PPP and privatization is that the responsibility for delivery and
backing a particular activity lies with the private sector in privatization. The PPP, on the other hand,
involves full retention of responsibility by the government for rendering services. Under
privatization, all the risks inherent in the business rest with the private sector while, under the PPP,
risks and rewards are shared between the government and the private sector.
The Indian case
In the Indian circumstance, the term PPP is adopted for developing public assets in various forms
as explained in schemes and modalities. According to Ministry of Finance Government of India, the
PPP project means a project based on a contract or concession agreement,

How To Read Literature Like a Professor Chapter 1: Every Trip Is a Quest (Except When It s

They don t just take a trip they take a quest. Structurally a quest has a quester, a place to go, a
stated reason to go there, challenges and trials en route, and a reason to go there. Quests usually
involve characters such as a knight, a dangerous road, a Holy Grail, a dragon, an evil knight, and
a princess. The quest also involves the character to gain self knowledge out of taking the adventure
to the stated place where he or she is going. Chapter 2: Nice to Eat with You: Acts of Communion

There are two categories of violence in literature: the specific injury and the narrative violence.
Specific injury causes characters to visit on one another or on themselves. Narrative violence
cause the characters to cause harm in general. Chapter 12: Is That a Symbol? Chapter 12 is
about symbolism. The author says that not everybody will think a symbol will mean the same
thing and it won t. The symbol is whatever you think it means. Some writers make their symbols
direct, but most let you use your own imagination. Chapter 13: It s All Political Chapter 13 was
about how most writing is political. It was about how writers secretly put their political point of
views into their stories. Usually political writing is boring and vague. Some writing is more
political than others, but nearly all writing is political on some level. Chapter 14: Yes, She s a
Christ Figure, Too Chapter 14 is about how almost everything, in some form, is a Christ figure.
The chapter gives a list to relate characters to. The list is 1. crucified, wounds in the hands, feet,

Lady Macbeth And I Go And It Is Done Analysis
Throughout Act I and II of Macbeth it is very evident to us as readers that the Macbeth s have a
relationship and love like no other. They are extremely in love with one another and will do
whatever it takes to please the other, and help each other out. In Act I, we saw Lady Macbeth
discuss how she was going to be the one to killKing Duncanfor her husband because although he
was ambitious to become king he lacked the strength to kill. She was willing to risk it all and take
on the tougher, more masculine role in the relationship to advance them in society and gain the
throne of Scotland. In one of the scenes of the soliloquy from Lady Macbethshe made it very
apparent that she was hesitant and nervous to kill King Duncan. She says to herself, Of... Show

This dagger symbolizes how he is trying to convince himself and Lady Macbeth that he is not
weak and that he can do the dirty work and kill the king to obtain the throne. The moment that
we finally see Macbeth persuades himself to kill the King is at the end of his soliloquy when he
says, I go, and it is done. The bell invites me. (II. I. 45). In this very moment he has finally
realized that he wants to kill King Duncan now. He has finally persuaded himself to do so and
although it seems like before he didn t not want to he now sees that it will be beneficial. The
relationship between Macbeth and Lady Macbeth seems as though it will only strength from here
because of the act that he is going to commit by killing the king but they do end up fighting
briefly after the death of the King. Lady Macbeth is extremely frustrated that Macbeth is freaking
out about the blood on his hands after doing the deed of killing King Duncan. She feels that is not
a very big deal and that he is overreacting about the situation. The two of them although very deeply
in love have differing opinions on

High Cost Of Entry And Market Domination Limits Entrants...
Barriers to Entry High cost of entry and market domination limits entrants into the industry. The
upfront cost for new airlines is capital intensive. In addition, it s difficult for new airlines to
obtain airport slots for takeoff and landing which are determined by the airports. Established
airlines already hold the monopoly over slots at certain airports, making it harder for new airlines
to infiltrate (Airlines Industry Profile, 2014). The industry is also dominated by five key airlines;
American, United, Delta, Southwest and JetBlue which make it difficult for new airlines to gain
market share. At 40 of the 100 largest U.S. airports, a single airlinecontrols a majority of the
market. At 93 of the top 100, one or two airlines control a majority of the seats (Koenig
Mayerowitz, 2015). In addition, with fuel being the number one cost for airlines, the volatile fuel
prices make it hard for new airlines to make a profit. Domestic airlines in the U.S. spend a
combined $2 to $5 billion on jet fuel every month. As a stat up airlines, the price paid for fuel is the
same weather planes are full or empty which could stop new airlines from entering the industry.
Lastly, the FAA has strict regulations which discourage new airlines from entering the industry. All
new entrants must abide by Federal Aviation Authority regulations on airworthiness, pilot
competence, and related issues (Airline Industry Profile, 2014). Overall, entry into the airline
industry is high and there is

Why Is Area 51 Controversial
Area 51, one of the United States more controversial sites. The reason for Area 51 being so
controversial? People claim that the United States government is hiding away aliens and ufo is
in the base. The evidence that the people claim to prove this fact is that the base is full of secrets
and very few people know what s going inside. There have also been ufo sightings and random
lights that are happening in the night. To understand the secrecy and mystery of these base we
have to go all the way back until the base was founded.
The base was first reported as actually existing in, 2013 (Blitz). The problem with this statement?
The American public knew about this site a long time before this confirmation was released which
creates skepticism. Also, no one knows what the base is working on at the moment. The fact that no
one knows what s going on inside the base gets people mad since they are using taxpayer s money
to fund the base. Another reason that fuels the argument is the extreme security that the
government employs on Area 51, cameras see every angle, on the distant ... Show more content on

alien themed that are trying to take advantage of the fact that people think there are aliens. There

In conclusion, Area 51 is a controversial place. Many people claim that the United States
government is keeping aliens a secret inside the base while others just believe that these people are
confused by tests the were secretly happening inside the base. Many have come forward and told
the public that they had seen aliens first hand, but this does not stand up to the facts presented by

The Symbols Of The Jewish Passover
Passover Passover, aka Pesach, is the most spoken about Jewish Holy day. Eighty percent of Jews,
to this day, attend a Seder, according to the 1990 National Jewish Population Survey. Passover is
closely observed by the Jewish people and is one of the most sacred religious holidays because it
serves as a commemoration of the Jews being freed by God from slavery in ancient Egypt and their
freedom as a nation with the help of Moses. One of the most symbolic pieces of Passoveris the
roasted lamb, which serves a memorial to the paschal lamb sacrifice made the night when the
ancient Hebrews fled Egypt. In the Bible, texts such as Leviticus, Exodus, Luke, Mathew, Mark,
and 1 Corinthians mention passover and the key elements to it. These sacred texts also show
what role Jesus played in the Passover. The story/history of Passover goes like this; God
appeared to Moses in the form of a burning bush and said I have surely seen the affliction of my
people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know
their sorrows; Exodus 3:7 10. Therefore, Moses had the word of the Lord to free the Jews from
slavery and take them to the promise land, Canaan. In doing so, the Pharaoh disagreed to letting
them free so God brought upon 10 plagues to the Pharaoh and his land. For the first 9 plagues,
after each one, Pharaoh promised to obey Moses s command and let the Jews free. But Pharaoh
did not keep his word. The 10th plague is the plague that forces

The Conflict Between The Rwandan And Tutsi Ethnic Conflict
In Rwanda, the Hutu has come into much conflict since the 1990s. As the Germans and the
Belgians colonized Rwanda, the favoritism of the colonizers created great ethnic divides within the
country. These partitions ultimately became so profound that a violent genocide took place, turning
countrymen against each other. The Congo was a nearby place for the violence between the Hutu
and Tutsito continue, while also becoming an important economic factor to the wealth of other
nations. The colonization, genocide, and conflicts in the Congo all contributed to the major issue of
racial segregation faced by the modern Hutus.
The early colonization of Rwanda by the Germans and Belgians created the major internal conflict
between the Hutu and the Tutsi. At the time of the Europeans arrival, Rwanda was made up of
85% Hutu, who were farmers, 14% Tutsi, who were cattle herders, and 1% Twa, the aboriginal
people (ChrГ©tien 69). In 1890, Rwanda first became a colony of Germany, lasting until the end of
World War I, when power was transferred to Belgium. Both of these colonies favored the Tutsi
population (Staff В¶2), because they believed that the Tutsi were more Caucasian and therefore
superior in intelligence to the Hutu (Jones 17). During this time, the Belgians oversaw a land
reform process by the Tutsi, which seized control of farmland that had been under the control of the
Hutu, without providing them with substantial compensation (Prunier 28). This favoritism planted
the seed for the

Lovecraft has once quoted in his book of Supernatural Horror in Literature that, the oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown. The fear of the unknown is the greatest fear among all fears; meanwhile, the way to achieve our dreams, or put it in different words, our Personal Legend, lies within the fear of the unknown. The spiritual adventurous, fantasy novel The Alchemist, written by Paulo Coelho, brings out the journey of a young boy named Santiago searching for his Personal Legend. I have always thought that becoming an architect is just an effortless work, until I searched the experiences of a real architect. There was one architect who elucidated that it would be a lengthy and tedious with all the studying that I would have to do. First, there are four years of undergraduate architecture program, then I have to gain one year of working experience. After one year of working, I have to get back to studying master degree of architecture for two years, after that, I will have to work and take exams to become a registered architect. After seeing the immense workload to become an architect, I feared that I cannot make it through all the studying, exams and most of all, high standards of work. The path towards my ambition of becoming an architect faded from my mind, and I had no idea how to renew my vision. I dreaded about this, and then I decided to talk with my parents. Imagine a world that is so highly collectivized that the word I has been banned. Objectivism is a system of philosophy created by Ayn Rand, a Russian American novelist. It has four main principles: objective reality, absolute reason, individualism, and laissez faire capitalism. The concept of objective reality is where the name Objectivism originated. Basically, it means that outside our own personal perceptions, there is one true reality happening. Objectively, there are things going on in the world whether or not a person is there to see them. • 7. My Outlook On Student Assessment One aspect of teaching that I find particularly challenging in my career is student assessment. It is a gray area that is constantly being analyzed and transformed by myself, colleagues, administrators and the educational community as a whole. As Huhn states, assessment means being keenly aware of what students know and understand, having sufficient evidence of this understanding, and offering a grade that accurately reflects this. As a Kindergarten teacher my outlook on student assessment varies greatly from many other grade level teachers. I view student assessment as an ongoing journey, not a final destination. I feel fortunate that I am not forced to assign points and letter grades to quantify student achievement. As a district... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Validity and reliability are cornerstones to this type of classroom. It is critical for teachers to ensure student assessments used in the classroom possess these qualities. Valid assessments require accurate feedback and exactness of the teacher s inferences about a student s ability. Reliable assessments must be both repeatable and dependable. On the assessment continuum there are three types of assessment that can be delivered to students. Each of these categories of assessments serves a different purpose. Diagnostic assessments are given before learning occurs. This type of assessment is used to identify where the students are at in learning right now, as well as any misconceptions they may have. Diagnostic assessments are critical to gathering student information to help teachers plan content to be taught, as well as to differentiate their instruction. Examples of diagnostic assessments would be prior knowledge and skill checks and learning preference surveys. Formative assessments are used while learning is taking place. The aim of this type of assessment is to improve student learning, not just measure it. These assessments can be both formal and informal, and may include quizzes, oral questioning, teacher observations, and think alouds. Although these assessments are used to evaluate students learning and progress, they should not be factored into a student s grade. Although both are personal opinions, they are from opposite sides of the conflict and support each other. It also is well documented that the people who joined the IRA wanted Northern Ireland to be independent just like Southern Ireland after it became independent in 1916. The IRA s own stated aims were to defend their nation, to remove British troops from N. Ireland and to make it a part of the rest of Ireland as one country. People join al Qaeda for various reasons loosely connected with fighting foreign occupiers, political motivations and religious ideology. One of the main reasons why people join al Qaeda is to fight America and other western governments who are seen as invaders or aggressors against Muslim lands and their populations. The findings of this study indicated that professionals working with Aboriginal children and adolescents need to be conscious of the importance of family and identity. Furthermore, it is critical that improvements are made to accessibility of mental health services for Aboriginal children, adolescents and their families as well as a more holistic approach being taken towards addressing mental health needs. The second research article was selected from The Early Childhood Education Journal and is titled A Quantitative Study of Head Start Children s Strengths, Families Perspectives, and Teachers Ratings in the Transition to Kindergarten (Robinson Diamond, 2013). This study explored the connection between preschool children s social interpersonal skills and their transition to kindergarten in mid western America. One hundred and thirty three preschool children participated in this study over a two year period using three measures of testing. • 11. The Origin of Migrant Farmworkers Essay The Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community formed in Southern California in the 20th century because of two factors that came together: farming emphasized by migrations like the Okie farmers from the East and Mexicans imported to the U.S. because of the need for cheap labor as a replacement of Americans during World War II. The migrant labor group formed after an already similar group in the U.S had been established in California, the American farm workers from the East, known as the Okies. The Dust Bowlof the 1930s caused the movement of the Okies to the West and was followed by the transition from American dominant farm labor to Mexican migrant labor. Thousands of families journeyed to California, settling in San Joaquin Valley. From 1930 to 1936, the Dust Bowl caused damages in agriculture in the Central Valleys all the way to the East Coast of the U.S. At the time, the majority of the farmers were from Oklahoma, in other words, they were American. Although most of the farmers fleeing the Dust Bowl were U.S born, some were Mexican Americans living in Texas, Arizona and the states closer to the border (Gregory). However, this event did not fully give rise to the Mexican Migrant Farm Workers community. It was instead, the beginnings of successful farm labor in the valleys of California, which transformed California s view towards farming. California seemed perfect, the climate was good for a diversity of crops and it promised a lot to the desolated farmers from the East. Why was this significant to the formation of the Mexican Migrant community? In other words, if the Dust Bowl would not have happened, then farm labor would have not been as significant in California as it is. Californians would have continued mining and building factories in soils that today, are used primarily for agriculture. James N. Gregory, professor at the University of Washington argues that The twentieth century drained rural Americans from the land as surely as it improved the technology and efficiency of farming as he discusses the effects of the ... With bog bodies gone, that leaves a miniscule amount of items to study. Artifacts or items belonging to ancient people don t provide tremendous amounts of information. Additionally, fossils belong to a whole other category, animals and plants from prehistoric times. Consequently, this doesn t provide information about primitive culture and don t assist scientists seeking data on primeval civilization. Furthermore, bog bodies are probably the most complex sources of enlightenment because they can provide clothing, weapons, and materials of specific eras, as well as informing us about their actions. For instance, of scientists suspected the person was sacrificed we can conclude that whatever civilization they were from practiced human sacrifice. In all honesty, bog bodies would be a grand loss because they re far more intriguing than other artifacts. • 25. Opioid Drugs And Their Receptor CHAPTER 1. INTRODUCTION 1.1.History of opioid research Opioid drugs and their receptor is one of the most extensively studying areas in pharmacology. This field of research really began from isolation of morphine, an active ingredient of opium, by German pharmacist Friedrich SertГјrner in 1989. The compound he managed to isolate was called morphine after Morpheus, the Greek god of dream. Later Pierre Robiquet in France isolated the second predominant alcholoid of opium, codeine. After the discovery that morphine can be used as anesthetic in some medical procedures, it became widely used during surgeries (Brownstein, 1993). In 1898, the Bayer Company in Germany synthesized another opioid compound, heroin. Heroin was a non prescription drug, which was thought to be more potent than morphine in producing analgesia, and more powerful than codeine in cough suppression. The legal production of heroin was suspended in 1925 when high levels of heroin addiction were noticed (Hosztafi, 2001, Tsisanova, 2012). In 1939, Otto Eisleb synthesized meperidine, first opioid ligand structurally not related to morphine. This was followed by the discovery of methadone by Max BochmГјhl and Gustav Ehrhart just before the Second World War in unfortunate attempt to synthesize addiction free opioid (Sneader, 2005, Tsisanova, 2012). 1940s were marked with the discovery of opioid antagonists, nalorphine and naloxone. I felt it necessary to point out how strong and brave she was to call out practices in a public format that many may not agree with. When asked why she did not put her name on her editorial pieces, Evelyn disclosed that she was afraid of what others would think of her writing about controversial topics. This brought us into some gender role analysis. She mentioned that the boys were the members of the paper that got the interesting and controversial stories, while the female journalists received assignments for more fluff pieces, so she was uncomfortable writing something against the norm with her name attached. I mentioned to Evelyn how great it was that she was able to pull herself away from the standard female fluff pieces and really write thought provoking articles, even if that was not what was expected of her. As Evelyn continued to explain more about her time writing, she mentioned that she became more willing to attach her name to many of her articles after becoming a follower of St. Thomas Aquinas, who encourages owning up to and taking responsibility for one s own personal views. • 32. The Bottled Water Problem The Bottled Water Problem Introduction Most of Americans today prefer drinking from bottled water other than regular tap water. Bottled water is definitely more efficient and more reliable than tap water in many ways because it is easy to carry around. The problem with bottled water is that even though it is very easy to carry around, it is also very easy to dispose of. According to the International Bottled WaterAssociation, the consumption increased 4.1 percent in 2011 alone. Furthermore, a report by the Earth Policy Institute (EPI) says that the consumption of bottled water doubled worldwide between 1999 and 2004. People throw away the bottled water so easily and the plastic that it is made of has many chemicals that can hurt the environment. The Bottled Water: Friend or Foe article says Bottled water also damages the environment because the bottles become unnecessary garbage and require large quantities of energy to be produced. There is two types of chemicals that are harmful, phthalates and biphenyl A, they are mainly used to make the plastic flexible. Bottled water is damaging to the environment, has many health risks, and is a waste of fossil fuels that can be used for something else more important than just making simple bottles to contain water. One does not see something as virtuous as Sesame Street to be a wide spreading contagion. Yet, Sesame Street provoked a social epidemic as one of the most influential children s television programs of its time. Malcolm Gladwell has studied the effects of Sesame Streeton the education of young children in his novel, The Tipping Point. He has three overall generalizations of all epidemics, including the Law of the Few, the Stickiness Factor, and the Power of Context. I will apply these generalizations to his example of Sesame Street to support Gladwell s argument. In addition, I will support his argument using the philosophical theories of Alasdair McIntyre and Theodore M. Porter. Overall, Gladwell poses a convincing argument that the success of Sesame Street is due to the complete combination of his three generalizations. The beginning of Sesame Street as an epidemic began with the very start of the television program. Television producer, Joan Ganz Cooneyembarked on a mission to create a children s learning epidemic (Gladwell 89). Many epidemics that are covered in Gladwell s novel are unintentional. The producers of Sesame Street, however, purposefully researched the effect of their show to ensure that it was impactful. It is arguable whether or not they wanted to provoke an epidemic, but the effects of the program were completely intentional. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Whether small disagreements created from minor issues, to mediocre arguments based on daily matters, to serious incidents that can reflect relationship taboos, it is a couple s perception and understanding of each other that can strengthen or weaken their union. The poem How It Will End by Denise Duhamel portrays two couples involved in similar matters as those previously described. The second couple s belief of what is stirring and their relationship comparison based on these thoughts, solidifies the underlying truth that marriage is not easy. Lines 20 to 21: I start to coach the girl to leave her no good lifeguard, but my husband predicts he ll never leave, are depicting the couple s mirroring on what they would actually do in this situation. The relationship judgement concept continues in lines 23 through 25 with That s your problem you think every fight is funny. Is the concept of assumption safe for a union? Is proof necessary for a couple to be happy? Nothing good ever comes of comparing your relationship to someone else s. It is better to acknowledge that each bond is unique and has its strengths and weaknesses. One of the most important reasons not to compare relationships is that you re not seeing the full picture. Furthermore, in the last two lines of the poem: She has her arms around his neck and is crying into his shoulder, He whisks her up into his hut. The upfront cost for new airlines is capital intensive. In addition, it s difficult for new airlines to obtain airport slots for takeoff and landing which are determined by the airports. Established airlines already hold the monopoly over slots at certain airports, making it harder for new airlines to infiltrate (Airlines Industry Profile, 2014). The industry is also dominated by five key airlines; American, United, Delta, Southwest and JetBlue which make it difficult for new airlines to gain market share. At 40 of the 100 largest U.S. airports, a single airlinecontrols a majority of the market. At 93 of the top 100, one or two airlines control a majority of the seats (Koenig Mayerowitz, 2015). In addition, with fuel being the number one cost for airlines, the volatile fuel prices make it hard for new airlines to make a profit. Domestic airlines in the U.S. spend a combined $2 to $5 billion on jet fuel every month. As a stat up airlines, the price paid for fuel is the same weather planes are full or empty which could stop new airlines from entering the industry. Lastly, the FAA has strict regulations which discourage new airlines from entering the industry. All new entrants must abide by Federal Aviation Authority regulations on airworthiness, pilot competence, and related issues (Airline Industry Profile, 2014). Overall, entry into the airline industry is high and there is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 53. Why Is Area 51 Controversial Area 51, one of the United States more controversial sites. The reason for Area 51 being so controversial? People claim that the United States government is hiding away aliens and ufo is in the base. The evidence that the people claim to prove this fact is that the base is full of secrets and very few people know what s going inside. There have also been ufo sightings and random lights that are happening in the night. To understand the secrecy and mystery of these base we have to go all the way back until the base was founded. The base was first reported as actually existing in, 2013 (Blitz). The problem with this statement? The American public knew about this site a long time before this confirmation was released which creates skepticism. Also, no one knows what the base is working on at the moment. The fact that no one knows what s going on inside the base gets people mad since they are using taxpayer s money to fund the base. Another reason that fuels the argument is the extreme security that the government employs on Area 51, cameras see every angle, on the distant ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... • 54. The Symbols Of The Jewish Passover Passover Passover, aka Pesach, is the most spoken about Jewish Holy day. Eighty percent of Jews, to this day, attend a Seder, according to the 1990 National Jewish Population Survey. Passover is closely observed by the Jewish people and is one of the most sacred religious holidays because it serves as a commemoration of the Jews being freed by God from slavery in ancient Egypt and their freedom as a nation with the help of Moses. One of the most symbolic pieces of Passoveris the roasted lamb, which serves a memorial to the paschal lamb sacrifice made the night when the ancient Hebrews fled Egypt. In the Bible, texts such as Leviticus, Exodus, Luke, Mathew, Mark, and 1 Corinthians mention passover and the key elements to it. These sacred texts also show what role Jesus played in the Passover. The story/history of Passover goes like this; God appeared to Moses in the form of a burning bush and said I have surely seen the affliction of my people which are in Egypt, and have heard their cry by reason of their taskmasters; for I know their sorrows; Exodus 3:7 10. Therefore, Moses had the word of the Lord to free the Jews from slavery and take them to the promise land, Canaan. In doing so, the Pharaoh disagreed to letting them free so God brought upon 10 plagues to the Pharaoh and his land. For the first 9 plagues, after each one, Pharaoh promised to obey Moses s command and let the Jews free. But Pharaoh did not keep his word. The 10th plague is the plague that forces ... • 55. The Conflict Between The Rwandan And Tutsi Ethnic Conflict In Rwanda, the Hutu has come into much conflict since the 1990s. As the Germans and the Belgians colonized Rwanda, the favoritism of the colonizers created great ethnic divides within the country. These partitions ultimately became so profound that a violent genocide took place, turning countrymen against each other. The Congo was a nearby place for the violence between the Hutu and Tutsito continue, while also becoming an important economic factor to the wealth of other nations. The colonization, genocide, and conflicts in the Congo all contributed to the major issue of racial segregation faced by the modern Hutus. The early colonization of Rwanda by the Germans and Belgians created the major internal conflict between the Hutu and the Tutsi. At the time of the Europeans arrival, Rwanda was made up of 85% Hutu, who were farmers, 14% Tutsi, who were cattle herders, and 1% Twa, the aboriginal people (ChrГ©tien 69). In 1890, Rwanda first became a colony of Germany, lasting until the end of World War I, when power was transferred to Belgium. Both of these colonies favored the Tutsi population (Staff В¶2), because they believed that the Tutsi were more Caucasian and therefore superior in intelligence to the Hutu (Jones 17). During this time, the Belgians oversaw a land reform process by the Tutsi, which seized control of farmland that had been under the control of the Hutu, without providing them with substantial compensation (Prunier 28). This favoritism planted the seed for the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
