Smokers in the U.K and U.S.A and the treatment of social pariahs
In recent years, antismoking campaigns has increased due to the harmful effects that are caused by
smoking. People smoke not caring about the consequences that it has not only on them, but also on
other people. In the U.K and U.S.A, campaign might or might not be effective. This essay seeks to
illustrate the cause and effect of antismoking campaigns, T.V advertising, campaigns against smokers
not being allowed N.H.S treatment, and the ban of smoking in public places and also illustrating the
reasons why similar campaigns will not be effective in Saudi Arabia. First, the causes of antismoking
campaigns and T.V advertising will be discussed. Then, the effects of these T.V advertising and
antismoking campaigns will be demonstrated. Finally, the reasons as to why similar campaign would
not be effective in Saudi Arabia will be analysed.
There are many reasons as to why antismoking campaigns and T.V advertising are growing and
expanding worldwide. Smoking does not only affect health, but also affects the environment and non
smokers. The first cause is health. Many individuals smoke not caring about the harm and dangers that
it might do to them. Some argue that they are physically addicted to smoking and others are just
ignorant about the whole thing. Smoking can cause harm to a person s body. It can cause fatigue and
worsen activities which acquire walking, jogging, and other physical activities. For example,

The Effects Of Climate Change On Africa s Security...
The Lacuna in the Climate Conflict Literature
The extant literature shows two trends. First, a few large N studies which showed strong correlations
between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome variable. The use
of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important features of the
accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security environment. The
use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate change may produce
misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate related conflicts may be
mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars and political violence,
climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and recede during the rainy or
wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war datasets to measure climate induced
conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and effect the causation linking
climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The
drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using sub state, micro level data,
and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state data also reported connections between
climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or in countries with histories of
volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested

A character in the book who showed the most bravery and potential would have to be Albus Severus
Potter, who is Harry Potter s younger son who got in the Slytherin house. Albus in the story didn t
accomplish the goals his father did in school but instead he became his own person and followed his
own goals instead of his father s and his goal was to go back in time and bring back Cedric Diggory,
and he had the idea of going into the Ministry and getting the time turner which takes a lot of courage.
Albus severus Potter is defined as the protagonist of the story because of his action to go back in time
and save Amos Diggory s son who was murdered by Lord Voldemort in the Triwizard Tournament in
the third task. Though Albus is a very a brave and intelligent young man he was also a real social
outcast due to the fact that he was the great Harry Potter s son in slytherin and he also did not get
along with his father very well. There was even times where he wished that Harry wasn t his father,
and does not really communicate much with other students at school except his best friend Scorpius
Malfoy, who he loves dearly. Albus overhead something he was not suppose to overhear from the top
of the steps at home. He heard Amos Diggory asking Harry and Hermione in the kitchen to use the
time turner in the ministry so they can prevent his son Cedric from getting killed as the spare by
Voldemort. Harry lied to Amos Diggory telling him that all time turners were destroyed

True Identities In April And Hercules
It is very important for a person to know their identity. A person s identity describes who they are and
how they live life. When he/she understand his/her identity they will know why they are on this Earth
and learn to accept who they are. If a person knows who they are they will not care about how people
think of them. April and Hercules have trouble finding their true identities because they care about
what people think instead of what they think. April and Hercules are very similar because they both
feel like there is a dark wall standing between them and their true identity. Both of their journeys were
very difficult. April had to face mean kids and everyone had labels, and Hercules had to face deadly
monsters to try and find who he is

Mental Barriers In Willy Loman s The Yellow Wallpaper
When this story was first written in 1892, women were commonly forced into the stereotypical
domesticated lifestyle by their overly controlling male authority figures. When someone is trapped in
a mindset that they don t want to be part of them begin to feel caged. Not only would they feel
physically caged due to the lack of control, but also their sense of self is caged behind mental barriers.
This is what happens to the narrator of The Yellow Wallpaper. The tearing down of the wallpaper
throughout the story symbolizes the deterioration of the stereotypical domestic life forced upon her,
this ultimately subsides to her more rebellious and free spirited self. This is possible due to the weak
mental walls put in place by her husband. These ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the narrator s mental barriers begin to fall, this new side begins to take shape. Once the woman
finally takes control the narrator appears to have gone insane. However, one could look at the insanity
not as a horrible outcome, but as a happy alternative for the narrator. She no longer has to live through
the hell, specifically the husband, had been putting her through. Infact, this event could have been the
best for this woman to achieve

the slaves. Also, the seceded states felt like they shouldn t take orders from Abraham Lincoln, because

Euthanasia: Prologue to the Holocaust
Euthanasia, the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering, dates to the first
and second centuries. Euthanasia comes from the Greek word Eu (good) and Thanatosis (death).
While euthanasia typically refers to the assistance of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill
individual who would otherwise suffer, it meant something else to Nazi Germany during the reign of
Hitler. Euthanasia actually became Nazi Germany s first program of mass murder.
In October of 1939, Hitler gave doctors permission ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This resulted in a difficult life for inflicted individuals, more difficult than the disabilities themselves.
Mental institutions were created to house these individuals.
The Nazis followed Darwin s ideas of natural selection and used his theory survival of the fittest to
guide their actions.6 This theory suggests that allowing disabled persons to live would eventually lead
to the reproduction of additional unfit persons. Hitler and the Nazis pushed their propaganda onto the
general population, insisting that the disabled placed an unnecessary burden on the country by
portraying them as problematic, but also as freaks.7 Disabled persons, including those who were both
physically and mentally handicapped, were ordered to mental institutions and the Nazi euthanasia
programs began.
Phase 1 Children
The first of Hitler s new euthanasia programs targeted disabled children throughout Germany. Hitler
issued a secret order to set the euthanasia programs into motion in 1939.8 The secret euthanasia
program, led by Philipp Bouhler, director of Hitler s private chancellery, and Karl Brandt, Hitler s
attending physician, began in the summer months. The Reich Ministry enforced a law that required all
physicians and nurses to report any children with any sign of disability. This included patients
suffering from schizophrenia, epilepsy, paralysis and other

Analysis Of Tomb Of The Warrior
The Wonders of Woodturning
Woodturning is the action of shaping wood with a lathe (Webster s). The lathe is a machine for
turning, that is, for shaping articles of wood, metal, or other material, by causing them to revolve
while acted upon by a cutting tool (Webster s). While writing my research paper I will research many
things such as: different types of woodturning, the education and training it takes to become a
woodturner, the salary that one makes with this being a career, the pros and cons of being coming a
woodturner, also the tools and techniques to using a lathe. The history of woodturning goes back to
before the third century ( Brief ) It is proven that the Etruscans were the developers of wood turning.
Tomb of the Warrior is where the first piece of turned wood found in that area ( Brief ). The Etruscans
were not the only people using the lathe in this time period ( Brief ). A bowl is the oldest artifact that
has been discovered ( Brief ) The bowl was discovered before the sixth century ( Brief ) Throughout
the years the lathe has been advanced. The earliest making of the lathe is from a known Egyptian wall
relief carved in stone in the tomb of Petosiris dated some 300 BC ( King ). Middle Eastern and eastern
lathes of this type was operated at ground level by two men ( King ). One person provides the power
by pulling backwards and forwards on a cord or leather strap wrapped around the object while the
turner sits on the opposite side with his

Good Drivers, Good And Good
DRIVER HABITS, GOOD AND BAD
Did you ever hear anyone admit to being a bad driver? Probably not, because everybody thinks they re
a good driver. They also think that everybody else is a menace on the road. If we perfect drivers ride
with another driver, we can usually find fault with their performance. Believe it or not, if they ride
with us, they can return the favor. How can we tell a good driver from a bad one? The number of
traffic accidents they have had would be an obvious indicator, but not necessarily the only one. There
are drivers who have habits that cause others to have accidents.
For instance, imagine you are following two slow cars, and when the way is clear, you signal and pull
out to overtake them. As you come along side the first one, he begins to pull out to overtake the car in
front of him, not seeing you because you are in his blind spot . You might have a crash which he
causes, and he goes on his merry way. Many people drive with a blind spot on either side of their cars,
roughly alongside the rear fenders. It s simply a bad habit on their part, of not adjusting the mirrors.

Elizabeth Hartley-Brewer s Essay Pitching Your Praise
In the article Pitching Your Praise , the author Elizabeth Hartley Brewer asserts that it is important for
continues growth in kids, that they are allowed to be self sufficient and taught to become independent
learners, to learn how to self assess themselves and to choose their own goals in life. This is
accomplished by grooming kids to not always have the need to feel validated through someone s
approval through empty praise, but by having them feel encouraged through praise that is focused on
their actual efforts and the success of their efforts. The goal of safe praise is to build on your child s
growing capacity for self belief and self motivation so she can begin to rely less on you and judge her
efforts herself. (Hartley Brewer 3)

Motivations and Methodology of Mass Murderers Essay
Introduction Mass murder is defined by the FBI as the killing of three or more people in a single event
or in the same day (Petersen Farrington, 2007). Mass murderers are complex and can be examined by
the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of
choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murder are easily
broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and specific cases
there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer.
History
Throughout history mass murder has not been a problem to the same level and in the same sense as it
is today. A related occurrence that is seen in history, which can be ... Show more content on

The event of mass murder as known today, postal workers going postal and school massacres, has
been emerging as a more regular occurrence throughout the last century (Lester, Stack, Schmidtke,
Schuller Muller, 2005). Starting with the Vietnam War era, there have been an increasing number of
mass murders, which share a causal link to the increased militarization of American Society. The
introduction of semiautomatic weapons in mainstream society gives the opportunity for explosive and
gratuitously violent events such as have been seen in recent years (Hamamoto, 2002). The increase in
graphically violent war movies and first person video games, full of violent images and massive
destruction, lend a hand in the building of a society that is hyperaware of war level violence.
Legal Concerns
The central legal concern associated with mass murder has been gun control. More specifically the
aftermath of Columbine can be examined to show the range of gun control concerns. A result of the
Columbine massacre, the most terrible mass shooting in United States history, was the media calling
for more gun control and identifying too many guns and too little control as the cause of the attack
(Kelck, 2009). It is important to note that while this attack was horrendous, it comes nowhere close to

Is The Vice President s Comments About Cost And Schedule...
1. Are the vice president s comments about cost and schedule variance correct?
Yes! As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned
value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very
basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here
the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as
7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the
2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to
the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order
12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is
overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case
study is true.
I hope their main aim for the need of these earned value reports is to reduce the interchange meetings
and to finish the project within the basic 3 constraints of a project management. That is why they
opted a formalized project management. From the case study it is very easy for us to make sure that
they believed earned value reports are some techniques to avoid the interchange meetings. The
reduction in interchange meetings automatically reduces time for discussing the completed work
rather than

Implementing Efficient Fleet Planning And Increase...
One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to
purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft, airline
companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed upon rate in
the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their fleet and invest
into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the efficiency of the
aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained.
It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of
airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators,
low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning
(Clark, 2012). In this section, the present report focuses on major U.S. airlines such as American
Airlines, Delta Airlines, and United Airlines to examine strategies mobilized by airline companies
when purchasing new aircraft. In addition, Korean Air will be considered so as to better gauge the
current situation of the US airlines flight operations by the way of a comparison with a major
international airline.

The Theory Behind Absolute Advantage
Over many years there has been many conceptual theories devised to help explain the reasons why
there is trade within the world accompanied by the possibilities that gains could or could not be made.
This piece of work will examine four main theories put forward by Adam Smith (Absolute advantage,
1776) which was then expanded on by David Ricardo with his theory of the Ricardian Model
(Comparative advantage, 1817). Also including the Heckscher Ohlin model (relative factor
abundance, 1919, 1933) and the ideas of New Trade Theory (Economies of Scale and Imperfect
Competition). These ideas will be evaluated and synthesised to see if these explanations truly explain
the reasons of trade theory.
Absolute advantage was an idea suggest by Adam Smith in 1817. The theory behind absolute
advantage suggests that if a country is highly skilled and efficient in producing a certain good with the
fewer resources, then it is believed that a specific country has an absolute advantage in the production
of that good (Sloman Garratt, 2013). However Absolute advantage can only occur if the country using
its resources for a specific good/service does so efficiently otherwise no gains are made from trading.
Although it can be argued that the idea of Absolute advantage does not particularly make much sense
in explaining trade patterns. As said in Feenstra s and Taylors book, Absolute advantage does not
particularly help to explain the case of why the US imports snowboards from places like China

Information Technology Issues And Procedures
The information technology issues and procedures involved in ensuring a successful business
contingency plan revolve around the effective system analysis and design process. The phases of
system analysis and design involved include preliminary study, feasibility study, system analysis,
system design, coding/programming, testing, implementation and finally maintenance. Preliminary
study is the first step, and it involves just a brief study of the business system to be put in place. This
enables the developers to have an overview of how the physical system will be. Once the management
approves the preliminary study, feasibility study commences. This process estimates the operational,
economical, technical and scheduled effectiveness of the system to users. System analysis involves
breaking down the entire business process into smaller processes and doing a detailed study on them.
This is with a view to understanding how information flows to improve the system processes
(Williams, Hardy Holgate, 2013). System design is the most vital phase where the system analysis
logic is implemented into a physical system. System design process commences with the general
design; where costs of the system building blocks are estimated. Then finally the detailed design
process is implemented which involves designing output and input of the system data. Programmers
then code the system design into a workable code Testing then follows; where a system test run is
done to identify and remove

Tyranny In Macbeth
Effects of Tyranny in Macbeth and The Winter s Tale
Shakespeare uses the device of tyranny to drive the plots of various plays through turmoil and the
conquering of such destructive actions and to drive the characters towards madness and other
unfortunate ends and for others to rise above them. One of the central foundations of these plays and
the use of tyranny is how it effects the women of these plays. Forcing them to follow the male leads
either down the path of desire for power strong enough that it can only lead them finally to insanity, or
to attempt to stand as righteous before the oppressing character and be led to their own demise. This is
especially clear in Macbeth and The Winter s Tale, where the characters are driven into either ... Show

As such the acts of tyranny are not the central focus of the play, they are the catalyst of the plot but not
the driving force. Within this play the acts of tyranny are what sets the events of the world into
motion. And as like in Macbeth the natural world does respond to these acts of tyranny ...brought the
seal d up oracle, by the hand deliver d of great Apollo s preist; and that, since then, you have not dared
to break the holy seal nor read the secrets in t... Hermione is chaste; Polixenes blameless; Camillo a
true subject; Leontes a jealous tyrant; his innocent babe truly begotten; and the king shall live without
an heir, if that which is lost is not found. (The Winter s Tale 3.2.128 135) The natural order of the
world has thus been interrupted by Leontes jealousy of his wife and Polixenes and this is the point
where the world, through the vehicle of the gods, tries to set the balance straight in the face of tyranny.
However, as Leontes ignores this message the tragic events are set into motion as the Prince dies
immediately after his father s decision to ignore the heavens and Hermione dies soon after that Apollo
s angry; and the heavens themselves do strike my injustices...Apollo, pardon my great profaneness
gainst thine oracle! (3.2.146 155) However, unlike in Macbeth the ending of this play does not end

Title: Determination of free fatty acid (FFA) in oil and determination of iodine value (IV) in oil
Introduction
Acid value or free fatty acid content is an important characteristic commonly used in quality control of
fat and oil. Fats and oils are one of the large variety and important sources in the world. It contains
acidity which is the result of the degree of breakdown of the triacylglycerols by a chemical reaction

One application of the iodine number is the determination of the amount of unsaturation contained in
fatty acids. This unsaturation is in the form of double bonds which react with iodine compounds. The
higher the iodine number, the more unsaturated fatty acid bonds are present in a fat. In a typical
procedure the acid is treated with an excess of Wij s iodine solution which a solution of iodine
monochloride (ICl) in glacial acetic acid. The iodine concentration is then determined by titration with
sodium thiosulfate. Iodine value is the average unsaturation measurement in fat sample. Although
iodine value is expressed as the weight of iodine added to 100 g of sample, the analytical procedure
used to determine the iodine normally use iodine monochloride in acetic acid solution (Wijs reagent)
as halogenations agent.
Objective
1) To determine the free fatty acid found in oil.
2) To differentiate between the free fatty acid formed during the hydrolysis process and oxidation
process.
3) To understand the relationship between acid value and free fatty acid
4) To determine the iodine value (IV) in oil

A Single Under Cabinet Light
A single under cabinet light in the kitchen provided all of the light in this part of the house. It was a
small but orderly place the area around the front door was lower and still slightly damp from when she
had come in. It entered directly into a modest carpeted living area, with carpet and couches on the
right, and a kind of lounge on the left, separated from the kitchen further back by a counter. A path in
the middle lead further towards a narrow hallway, with doors on the left and right, the latter of which

There was something else in another room, the one at the end of the hall.
It was regular consistent, like a sphere. Soft all the way through. She shuffled further back into the
chair and concentrated. It was consistent on the outside, but inside it was something else, some kind of
element or maze of elements. It was inaccessible, visible only through faint densities rolling outward
from the center, there was some kind of insulation around it. Inside, it was complex, the heat was
moving through the elements in strange paths. It was not arbitrary, there was a pattern or patterns
quick, rapid, then pulsed, then broken up, representations of something else. Inside, the further in she
went, the hotter it was, much too hot, it seemed to twist. She tugged at the heat, but it remained
stubborn; the boundaries of its pattern made more clear by her attempts to influence it. It held at
fixtures, remained constant within tolerances. She tugged again, suppressing one of the strange
elements, and the heat reacted, redirected but the redirection was physical, mechanical, it was a
physical readjustment, not mechanical one. She drew back, and the element returned to its prior state.
The heat did not flow down, the floor beneath the source was almost as cool as the rest of the house.

Local resources Tourism in India can create great pressure on local resources like energy, food, and
other raw materials that may already be in short supply. Greater extraction and transport of these
resources exacerbates the physical impacts associated with their exploitation. Because of the seasonal
character of the industry, many destinations have ten times more inhabitants in the high season as in
the low season. A high demand is placed upon these resources to meet the high expectations tourists
often have (proper heating, hot water, etc.). Land degradation Important land resources include fertile
soil, forests, wetlands and wildlife. Increased construction of tourism facilities has increased the
pressure on these resources and on scenic landscapes. Direct impact on natural resources in the
provision of tourist facilities can be caused by the use of land for accommodation and other
infrastructure provision, and the use of building materials. Forests often suffer negative impacts of
tourism in the form of deforestation caused by fuel wood collection and land clearing. For example,
one trekking tourist in Nepal can use four to five kilograms of wood a day. PHYSICAL IMPACT OF

ground support fighter first flew in October of 1940. At the time, it was equipped with the Allison
engine. (Alex) At first, it was underpowered, but after undergoing multiple changes, it became a
formidable fighter with its top speed of 437 miles per hour. Its initial year of service was 1942 in the

It was a poor fighter at high altitudes and mainly took up ground support and photo reconnaissance.
Test pilot Ron Harker was the man who suggested putting the Merlin engine used in Spitfires in the
Mustang. At first, his idea was believed to fail. The re engined fighter s performance, especially at
high altitude, was spectacular (Dorr). With its new engine, the P 51B Mustang could fly 100 miles per
hour faster than the original P 51. Having the same engine as the Spitfire, the Mustang was able to
outperform the other plane thanks to its low drag wings and fuselage. The Mustang went through
many changes and it was with a change to a bubble canopy, the Merlin powered P 51D became the
ultimate Mustang and swept the skies of Europe (Dorr). It was thanks to the Mustang that bomber
losses decreased and the number of successful bomb runs increased. By the spring of 1944 the

The Clinical Plan For Post Knee Arthroplasty Rehabilitation
The clinical scenario presented by Sarah is very interesting and has got every chance a physical
therapist might face such similar situation in outpatient clinical practice. When a patient comes for
post knee arthroplasty rehabilitation, the physical therapist can often get too much focused on therapy
goals and overlook important clinical signs and symptoms that must be addressed and referred in a
timely manner. A weight gain of 20 pounds in 18 days was not a good indication of Mr. Knee s general
health status. Presence of localized edema is common to see in knee arthroplasty patients. However,
this patient has 2+ pitting edema even after taking Lasix 40 mg twice a day. The evaluation did not
specify more about of swelling, whether it has any increased or decreased depends upon the time of
the day. A weight gain of 2 pounds or more in 48 hours must be considered as a red flag, which may
be an indication of heart failure. Vital signs assessment consistently demonstrated higher blood
pressure and heart rate. The evaluation is not clearly indicative of exercise induced asthma for patient.
Weight gain, consistent higher levels of blood pressure and heart rate along with exercise induced
exertion can be signs of acute cardiac failure. According to King, Kingery Casey, 2012, heart failure is

How Did Galileo Build His Telescope
Galileo Galilei was an extremely important scientific figure. Known as the father of modern science,
Galileo s discoveries and advancements helped build the foundation of theorems and technology still
used today. From proving the Copernican theory to building his own telescope, he made a huge impact
that is definitely worth learning about and noting.
One of the most memorable things Galileo did was create his own telescope. In 1609, he created a
telescope more powerful than any at the time. He constructed it by using a convex objective lens and a
concave eyepiece. Galileo s initial telescope only magnified 8 times, but it was soon refined to 20. He
used this to look at the moon and its phases, the four satellites of Jupiter, a supernova, the phases of
venus, and sunspots. Through the information he collected during these studies, he was able to
disprove the Ptolemaic worldview (the idea that the Earth is the center of the universe) and bring the
Copernican theory to light. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

partly what inspired his studies. Over the course of a few years with studying with his telescope, he
came to the realization that the Earth orbited the sun, rather than the other way around. He published
these studies, however, the church was not impressed, and Galileo was threatened with

Descartes Epistemology
Epistemology

Descartes Epistemology
This essay attempts to explain Descartes epistemology of his knowledge, his Cogito, Ergo Sum
concept (found in the Meditations), and why he used it [the cogito concept] as a foundation when
building his structure of knowledge. After explaining the concept I give a brief evaluation of his
success in introducing and using this cogito as a foundation. Finally, I provide reasons why I think
Descartes succeeded in his epistemology.
The First ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The argument, as Descartes presented, does not give a valid reason for the existence of the body or
anything else in the physical world, so we cannot accept that bodies exist. Neither does the cogito
account for the existence of other minds as that would entail knowledge of the physical world where
other things exist. The cogito concept does however; give a valid argument for the existence of the
mind or a thinking thing that exists independently of the body. In his novel Think, Blackburn explains
the cogito concept as a means of justifying the core of one s existence as thinking, we accept that
thought exists not a self (Blackburn, 2001:20). I agree with Blackburn because his [Descartes ]
concept serves well to prove that we exist as thinking things and even if we were to discard any a
priori or a posteriori knowledge, we can still endorse the cogito. The cogito concept stands regardless
of empirical knowledge because it suggests the existence of thought without actually linking it to the
body (which constitutes a sort of empirical way of acquiring knowledge through the senses). In
addition, it can be accepted without any a priori knowledge since Descartes only introduced it after
concluding that he knew nothing, and could only accept knowledge of his own existence as
vindicated.
To assess Descartes choice of foundation I will raise some questions that implore an explanation
regarding the

Once I had made it to the front of the church the groom had become more visible to me. It had been

me and Francis had slid a golden ring on each others finger. Soon the priest had finished speaking and

infrastructure is an important challenge that can be fixed if there are new systems put in place that
allow for improvement at any time in the future. The challenge of restoring and improving an urban
infrastructure can be accomplished, but there need to be technological advances, and support from the
government. Equally important is the need for programs with sufficient financial resources that can
provide for a more up to date installation of the various components of an urban infrastructure.
Perhaps, the best way to solve the Grand Challenge of restoring and improving infrastructure would
be to apply the new technologies that have been investigated and tested the most, and put them into

Charles Dickens The Signalman and A Birthday by Karen Mansfield
A signalman is a short story written by Charles Dickens. This is a story about a signalman who is
driven mad by the environment of his work, away from sunlight and people. But he was not alone; a
supernatural ghost decides to accompany him too. He has a lot of responsibilities to shoulder.
There are only two characters that really are prominent in the short story. In fact in the story, there are
only about three to five characters. The important characters are the signalman and the narrator.
Charles Dickens uses dialogue to make the characters more appealing and easier to understand. He has
written exactly what was need to understand the story, nothing ... Show more content on

Later on in the story he also stops talking to the narrator, as his job comes first and his problems later,
In charge of his duties
I observed him to be remarkably exact and vigilant, breaking off his discourse at a syllable, and
remaining silent until what he had to do was done. The signalman seemed to love his work even if he
did not love his work he was always very devoted to his work.
I believe that one s work environment or even home environment defines a person and that is what
builds one s character. The signalman had nothing in his life except his job; he had nothing to return to
his home for, no wife or children. His work environment was unpleasant and seems unhealthy and the
narrator saw this as stepping into the
unknown, ...As if I left the natural world/... entrance to a black tunnel, in whose the massive
architecture there was a barbarous depressing, and forbidding air... it had an earthly deadly smell/ His
post was in as solitary and dismal place as ever I saw. A limitation was placed on the signalman
through his work. He could not go out and enjoy the sun and light for a few minutes and the signalman
did not even try to go and enjoy, he was too devoted to his work. The signalman had to live

Smokers in the U.K and U.S.A and the treatment of social pariahs In recent years, antismoking campaigns has increased due to the harmful effects that are caused by smoking. People smoke not caring about the consequences that it has not only on them, but also on other people. In the U.K and U.S.A, campaign might or might not be effective. First, a few large N studies which showed strong correlations between climate and conflict used civil war datasets as the measure of the outcome variable. The use of an aggregated country level civil war data may be missing the most important features of the accuracy, degree, and severity of the impact of climate change on Africa s security environment. The use of civil war and political violence datasets to capture the impact of climate change may produce misleading outcomes. Unlike civil conflict and political violence, climate related conflicts may be mirroring the ebb and flow of climatic conditions. Different from civil wars and political violence, climate related conflicts may become intense during the drier months and recede during the rainy or wet months of the year. Using aggregated country level civil war datasets to measure climate induced conflicts misses the important nuances we need to determine cause and effect the causation linking climate change to violent conflict, and exposes such analysis to the ecological fallacy trap. The drawback of using aggregated data has been addressed by studies using sub state, micro level data, and case studies. Most of the studies that used sub state data also reported connections between climate and conflict, and most were situated in the Horn of Africa or in countries with histories of volatilities. Finally, there are those who suggested ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Euthanasia Prologue To The Holocaust Euthanasia Euthanasia: Prologue to the Holocaust Sophie Payne Introduction to Historical Research Methods April 20, 2017 Sophie Payne Euthanasia: Prologue to the Holocaust Euthanasia, the practice of intentionally ending a life to relieve pain and suffering, dates to the first and second centuries. Euthanasia comes from the Greek word Eu (good) and Thanatosis (death). While euthanasia typically refers to the assistance of a painless death for a chronically or terminally ill individual who would otherwise suffer, it meant something else to Nazi Germany during the reign of Hitler. The Nazis followed Darwin s ideas of natural selection and used his theory survival of the fittest to guide their actions.6 This theory suggests that allowing disabled persons to live would eventually lead to the reproduction of additional unfit persons. Hitler and the Nazis pushed their propaganda onto the general population, insisting that the disabled placed an unnecessary burden on the country by portraying them as problematic, but also as freaks.7 Disabled persons, including those who were both physically and mentally handicapped, were ordered to mental institutions and the Nazi euthanasia programs began. Phase 1 Children The first of Hitler s new euthanasia programs targeted disabled children throughout Germany. Hitler issued a secret order to set the euthanasia programs into motion in 1939.8 The secret euthanasia program, led by Philipp Bouhler, director of Hitler s private chancellery, and Karl Brandt, Hitler s attending physician, began in the summer months. Believe it or not, if they ride with us, they can return the favor. How can we tell a good driver from a bad one? The number of traffic accidents they have had would be an obvious indicator, but not necessarily the only one. There are drivers who have habits that cause others to have accidents. As you come along side the first one, he begins to pull out to overtake the car in front of him, not seeing you because you are in his blind spot . This is accomplished by grooming kids to not always have the need to feel validated through someone s approval through empty praise, but by having them feel encouraged through praise that is focused on their actual efforts and the success of their efforts. Mass murderers are complex and can be examined by the many factors that regularly appear among them, such as violence precipitating events, weapon of choice, and mental illnesses. The motivations and methods for committing mass murder are easily broken down into specific groups, and through the examination of these definitions and specific cases there is much to learn about the mind of a mass murderer. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The event of mass murder as known today, postal workers going postal and school massacres, has been emerging as a more regular occurrence throughout the last century (Lester, Stack, Schmidtke, Schuller Muller, 2005). Starting with the Vietnam War era, there have been an increasing number of mass murders, which share a causal link to the increased militarization of American Society. The introduction of semiautomatic weapons in mainstream society gives the opportunity for explosive and gratuitously violent events such as have been seen in recent years (Hamamoto, 2002). The increase in graphically violent war movies and first person video games, full of violent images and massive destruction, lend a hand in the building of a society that is hyperaware of war level violence. Legal Concerns The central legal concern associated with mass murder has been gun control. More specifically the aftermath of Columbine can be examined to show the range of gun control concerns. A result of the Columbine massacre, the most terrible mass shooting in United States history, was the media calling for more gun control and identifying too many guns and too little control as the cause of the attack (Kelck, 2009). As we have seen in the case study the Spokane industries are very particular about the earned value reports, as we seen in the reports that the Franklin electronics provided is seemed to be a very basic according their view. The values of cost variance at the 2nd month are like 6K, 2K, 3K, 3K, here the total comes to 14k ($14,000) and the same cost variance in the following month are presented as 7K, 3K, 5K, 10K ($25,000) respectively, so here we can see that the values that were provided in the 2nd month are less than 3/4th of the 3rd month. Comes to the scheduling variance the values given to the 2nd month are said to be 8K, 1K, 2K, 20K ($31,000), the 3rd month calculations are in the order 12K, 3K, 4K, 26K ($45,000), so by seeing this we can easily say that the scheduling variance is overrated nearly 50% of its value in the previous month. So, whatever the sponsor said in the case study is true. I hope their main aim for the need of these earned value reports is to reduce the interchange meetings and to finish the project within the basic 3 constraints of a project management. • 17. Implementing Efficient Fleet Planning And Increase... One of the most effective ways to implement efficient fleet planning and increase profitability is to purchase modern and fuel efficient aircraft. Typically, when placing an order for new aircraft, airline companies utilize options, which enable them to purchase additional airliners at an agreed upon rate in the future (Kodukula Papudesu, 2006). In this manner, airlines are able to update their fleet and invest into modern aircraft while postponing the acquisition of additional airliners until the efficiency of the aircraft model and its suitability to a particular market have been ascertained. It needs to be stressed that, with regards to selecting the most efficient aircraft, different types of airline will utilize different fleet planning strategies. Thus, non scheduled carriers, cargo operators, low cost carriers, and leasing companies will apply different criteria with regards to fleet planning (Clark, 2012). The Theory Behind Absolute Advantage Over many years there has been many conceptual theories devised to help explain the reasons why there is trade within the world accompanied by the possibilities that gains could or could not be made. This piece of work will examine four main theories put forward by Adam Smith (Absolute advantage, 1776) which was then expanded on by David Ricardo with his theory of the Ricardian Model (Comparative advantage, 1817). Also including the Heckscher Ohlin model (relative factor abundance, 1919, 1933) and the ideas of New Trade Theory (Economies of Scale and Imperfect Competition). These ideas will be evaluated and synthesised to see if these explanations truly explain the reasons of trade theory. Absolute advantage was an idea suggest by Adam Smith in 1817. The theory behind absolute advantage suggests that if a country is highly skilled and efficient in producing a certain good with the fewer resources, then it is believed that a specific country has an absolute advantage in the production of that good (Sloman Garratt, 2013). However Absolute advantage can only occur if the country using its resources for a specific good/service does so efficiently otherwise no gains are made from trading. • 20. Information Technology Issues And Procedures The information technology issues and procedures involved in ensuring a successful business contingency plan revolve around the effective system analysis and design process. The phases of system analysis and design involved include preliminary study, feasibility study, system analysis, system design, coding/programming, testing, implementation and finally maintenance. Preliminary study is the first step, and it involves just a brief study of the business system to be put in place. This enables the developers to have an overview of how the physical system will be. Once the management approves the preliminary study, feasibility study commences. This process estimates the operational, economical, technical and scheduled effectiveness of the system to users. System analysis involves breaking down the entire business process into smaller processes and doing a detailed study on them. This is with a view to understanding how information flows to improve the system processes (Williams, Hardy Holgate, 2013). System design is the most vital phase where the system analysis logic is implemented into a physical system. System design process commences with the general design; where costs of the system building blocks are estimated. Then finally the detailed design process is implemented which involves designing output and input of the system data. This unsaturation is in the form of double bonds which react with iodine compounds. The higher the iodine number, the more unsaturated fatty acid bonds are present in a fat. In a typical procedure the acid is treated with an excess of Wij s iodine solution which a solution of iodine monochloride (ICl) in glacial acetic acid. The iodine concentration is then determined by titration with sodium thiosulfate. Iodine value is the average unsaturation measurement in fat sample. When a patient comes for post knee arthroplasty rehabilitation, the physical therapist can often get too much focused on therapy goals and overlook important clinical signs and symptoms that must be addressed and referred in a timely manner. A weight gain of 20 pounds in 18 days was not a good indication of Mr. Knee s general health status. Presence of localized edema is common to see in knee arthroplasty patients. Known as the father of modern science, Galileo s discoveries and advancements helped build the foundation of theorems and technology still used today. From proving the Copernican theory to building his own telescope, he made a huge impact that is definitely worth learning about and noting. One of the most memorable things Galileo did was create his own telescope. In 1609, he created a telescope more powerful than any at the time. He constructed it by using a convex objective lens and a concave eyepiece. Galileo s initial telescope only magnified 8 times, but it was soon refined to 20. He used this to look at the moon and its phases, the four satellites of Jupiter, a supernova, the phases of venus, and sunspots. The argument, as Descartes presented, does not give a valid reason for the existence of the body or anything else in the physical world, so we cannot accept that bodies exist. Neither does the cogito account for the existence of other minds as that would entail knowledge of the physical world where other things exist. The cogito concept does however; give a valid argument for the existence of the mind or a thinking thing that exists independently of the body. In his novel Think, Blackburn explains the cogito concept as a means of justifying the core of one s existence as thinking, we accept that thought exists not a self (Blackburn, 2001:20). I agree with Blackburn because his [Descartes ] concept serves well to prove that we exist as thinking things and even if we were to discard any a priori or a posteriori knowledge, we can still endorse the cogito. The cogito concept stands regardless of empirical knowledge because it suggests the existence of thought without actually linking it to the body (which constitutes a sort of empirical way of acquiring knowledge through the senses). In addition, it can be accepted without any a priori knowledge since Descartes only introduced it after concluding that he knew nothing, and could only accept knowledge of his own existence as vindicated. Specifically, it is about repairing the infrastructure of a society, including its power grids, water infrastructure, roads, bridges, sustainable structures, and anything that provides support to our thriving lifestyle. Admittedly, improving infrastructure is an important challenge that can be fixed if there are new systems put in place that allow for improvement at any time in the future.
