The power industry is undergoing changes due to increasing energy demand, limited grid expansion, and more volatile renewable and distributed energy sources. This adds complexity to managing the electric grid. New technologies like wide area monitoring systems (WAMS) and phasor measurement units (PMUs) along with advanced visualization platforms are helping to improve traditional grid monitoring with faster, more dynamic stability management. This enables operators, analysts and planners to respond rapidly and appropriately to system conditions in order to monitor performance, reveal stability and efficiency information, and improve transmission and distribution networks.
