Aboriginal People In Aboriginal People
Aboriginal people, often known as Indigenous people, refers to the original people of
North America and their descendants, including First Nations, Inuit, and MГ©tis. Data
showed that 4.3% of Canada s population is represented by Aboriginal people, which
increased by 20.1% between the 2006 and 2011 (Statistics Canada, 2011). Ontario,
Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia had the largest numbers of
Aboriginal people (Statistics Canada, 2011). The median after tax income for
Aboriginal people aged 15 years and older in 2010 was $20,060 (Statistics Canada,
2015). In a 2014 Canadian income survey conducted by the Government of Canada
(2016), 8.8% of Canadians were below the low income cut offs and were living in
poverty, 18.7% of Canadians were Indigenous people on living on a reserve. It is
important for sociologists and health care professionals to be aware of the income issues
of Aboriginal people in Canada to better understand the social context and health issues
that aboriginal people face daily.
A large number of Aboriginal Canadians struggle with diabetes. According to Gionet and
Roshananfshar (2013), four percent of MГ©tis, two percent of Inuits, and six percent of
First Nations living off reserve are living with diabetes in Canada. Diabetes affects the
body s production of the hormone, insulin, that works to regulate the amount of glucose
in the body (Canadian Institutes of Health Information 2015). Without the proper
treatment, diabetes can lead to heart
The Importance Of Team Dynamics And Communication
Throughout my semester in SciTech, perhaps the most important thing that I took away
from my experience was the importance of team dynamics and communication in
collaborative projects, and this is particularly true in engineering fields, where it is
absolutely essential to success, and, in my opinion, significantly more important than the
skill of knowledge of individual team members after a certain point. Every team that I
was part of during SciTech, the team for the semester challenge especially, had numerous
issues in cooperation and communication, and conflict repeatedly arises, though we
eventually learned how best to function together and were able to successfully complete
the challenge before D4 with a significant amount of time to spare, though we did have
some issues with time management in regard to the FinalReport later. I have found that,
although relevant skills to the task at hand, proficiency with SolidWorks or a general
aptitude for mechanical engineering for example, organizational abilities, or other
things of that nature, these are effectively useless without a developer work ethic, a
willingness to accept feedback and learn, the ability to effectively resolve disputes, and
good communication, all of which are immensely valuable in a collaborative setting.
For example, one of my group members spent more than a week on the quantitative
analysis section of the FDR, but I ended up having to redo large portions of it anyway
(logbook 3/23), which
Chrysler Team-Based Approach
Team Based Implementation
Chrysler started pushing power to the floor in the late 1980 s, resulting in greater
quality and efficiency, as they broke down the symbolic walls between engineering,
styling, and production departments and formed platform teams (Zatz, 2006). The
automotive industry relies on mass assembly line production which requires large
groups of employees to work in concert linking a series of interchangeable parts in an
effort to finalize assembly. Chrysler provides an excellent model to discuss a team
based approach as it relates to increased productivity and effective cost reductions.
Furthermore, the Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger in 1998 outlines Chrysler s fall
from grace as it struggled with cross cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If good teamwork promotes productivity and quality improvement, then why are
productivity and quality levels sometimes lower in a team environment (Tudor, 1996)?
The truth is more companies fail at achieving a team based approach than succeed, which
lends credibility to the significant steps that must be taken to successfully implement and
sustain a team based organization. If implemented efficiently, it can afford an
organization excellent coverage across all its business operations.
In May 1998, when the impending merger of Daimler Benz and Chrysler was
announced, it heralded the biggest cross border industrial merger ever (Sarosi, 2016).
The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger would systematically pair two of the largest
executive boards in the car manufacturing industry in an attempt to successfully
implement a team based approach as a necessary first step in their corporate merger.
Many of the management and employee issues that would arise during the merger
stemmed from diversity in communication styles and cross culture differences. However,
it makes the task of basic team based implementation and adherence to the founding
principles no less significant. The idea of less management, improving relationships and
increased productivity outline the foundation of a team based approach. The Daimler
Benz and Chrysler merger presented many challenges as both teams worked to establish
a balanced
The Origin Of The Efficient Markets Hypothesis Essay
The origins of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH) can be traced back to the
groundbreaking progress of French mathematician Louis Bachelier (1900), who proposed
the concept of random walk as the fundamental model for financial asset prices. However
at that moment the idea was not widely accepted by other academics. Then Samuelson
(1965) initiated the modern literature by proving that asset prices in efficient markets
fluctuate randomly, and only in response to new information.
In 1960s, Efficient Markets Hypothesis was further developed by Paul A. Samuelson
(1965) and Eugene F. Fama(1970). In an efficient stock market, the price for any given
stock effectively represents the expected net present value of all future profits. Which
means, according to the efficient markets hypothesis (EMH), market prices can reflect all
available information. After that, the EMH theory becomes one of the pillars of modern
financial economics theory.
Fama (1970) in a classic paper contributed a great deal to operationalize the concept of
market efficiency. Fama defines three types of efficiency, each of which is based on a
different notion of what type of information set is understood to be relevant in the
phrase: a market in which prices fully reflect all available information is called efficient
. (Dr Andros Gregoriou Lecture 1, EMH)
He surveyed the idea of an efficient capital market, and made this following famous
definition: A market in which prices always fully reflect
Automatic Weapon Ban
Automatic Weapon Ban
July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in Aurora,
Colorado. The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred
round magazine. An automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all
sporting events, and activities with guns can be accomplished without automatic
weapons. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like the shooting at
the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for shooting range
activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of automatic
weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of
the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the
US because they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in
recreational activities.
A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon
because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A
person would only need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home,
it is all close quarters, which removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic
rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots a radius of projectiles to protect yourself.
James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less than two percent of home
invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as efficient because it only
Mickey Mantle Research Paper
Did you know that Mickey Mantle was one of the greatest baseball players to ever
play the game of baseball? Mickey had a huge career to baseball starting with his early
age of 17 and ending at an older age. Mickey Mantle was a huge impact on the United
States for his great effort on the field and the intensity while doing it. Mickey had so
many talents on the field. His batting, fielding, throwing, supporting, and the
encouragement he had for others and himself. Mickey s main focuses were in his Minor
League, Professional league, and his final years and retirement. In 1948 Mickey Mantle
started his baseballcareer with the Kansas City professional Baxter Springs Whiz Kids.
When playing a guy by the name Billy Johnson was getting scouted by Tom
Greenwade. During the that Tom was scouting Billy, Mickey hit 3 home runs
impressing Tom rather than Billy impressing Tom. After Mickey ending his final
seasons with high school baseball he signed with the Minor League s. Mickey signed
for 140$ per month with a signing bonus of $1,500. After signing Mickey was assigned
to the Yankees Class D independence Yankees of the Kansas Oklahoma Missouri

Mantle hit the park s first home run. In 1966, his batting average increased to .288 with
23 home runs and 56 RBI. After the 1966 season, he was moved to first base with Joe
Pepitone taking over his place in the outfield. On May 14, 1967, Mantle became the
sixth member of the 500 home run club. Mantle then hit .237 with 18 home runs and
54 RBI during his season in 1968. Mantle announced his retirement on March 1, 1969.
He gave a farewell speech on Mickey Mantle Day , June 8, 1969, in Yankee Stadium.

Prejudice And Inequality In America
An American is a man, a woman, a child who came to the U.S. and started to grow and
flourish to become the men and women that feel pride for their country and the
freedoms they have through salutes to the country and leaving behind their past
heritage to become a citizen of the U.S. We as Americans have very well tried to
become who we are today by not being prejudice and not being without freedoms. We
strive to be the best we can by saying our pledge of allegiances and our doing as much
as we can for our country. Just as my grandfather does every morning by saluting of the
flag always hanging in his yard up high. The American people are people of belief be it
religion or in their country but we all have it. Even through our mixture of blood... Show

Americans being, derived from immigrants coming to America on ships, we have a
history of being from around the world and having many cultures in our mists. An
example of that mixed blood comes from J. Hector St. John de CrГЁvecoeur s writing
called What Is an American? has said He is either an European, or the descendant of
an European; hence that strange mixture of blood, which you will find in no other
country (John De CrГЁvecoeur chunk 2). He states that we are either from europe or
we are born from someone who came from europe and that we are a mixed blood of
people that you will never see before unless you are in America. As well as the passage
before De CrГЁvecoeur states . I could point out to you a man, whose grandfather was
an Englishman, whose wife was Dutch, whose son married a French woman, and
whose present four sons have now four wives of different nations ( John de
CrГЁvecoeur chunk 2). This elaborates on the subject of Americans being of a mixed
blood by giving us an example of how mixed we really are and how many cultures and
relations between each of them have come together. Americans are not just a nationality
we are a symbol of people coming together under one nation of laws and being one in the
same and never forgetting what we had in the past. Americans have come together to
Mirror Touch Synesthesia
When the production of a sense impression relating to one sense or part of the body by
stimulation of another sense or part of the body occurs, this is synesthesia. In other
words, when one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another. There are many
different forms of synesthesia, but the top 6 forms are: lexical gustatory (association
between words and tastes), misophonia (sound triggers negative emotions),
personification (ordered sequences have personalities), number form (numbers appear as
mental maps), chromesthesia (sound to color), mirror touch synesthesia (feeling the
same sensation someone else feels) (Halderman, 2016). These are all forms of a rare brain
condition that there is no cure for, yet. Most synesthesia s are passed... Show more

Are mirror touch synesthetes able to take on someone else s emotional sensations?
These are the questions that this study will aim to answer and a couple different
experiments will be done to determine the answers. This study will be all observational
research, trying to limit as many extraneous factors as possible. The first will be face
perception tests. Subjects will be shown pictures of faces expressing different emotions
and researcher s will observe if the subjects emotions are changing as well. The next
study will be with live people demonstrating different emotions to see if synesthetes can
take on the emotions they are observing. There is some research to suggest that empathy
is tied to mirror touch synesthesia, and these tests will furthermore help determine that to

To Kill A Mockingbird Good Vs Evil Essay
Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions. T.S. Eliot. The
deceptions presented between good and evil are prevalent throughout the historical
fiction novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In life, nothing is either perfectly
good or perfectly evil. It would have been easy to offer a blatant indication of crime, the
town s bigotry, Dolphus Raymond s eccentricity, Aunt Alexandra s narrow mindedness,
and Mrs. Dubose s nastiness and addiction. Harper Lee, however, always
counterbalanced the evilwith the good in order to portray the real complexities of life.
Although Dolphus Raymond seems to be nonchalant, behind his rough exterior is
forbidden love, similarly, Aunt Alexandra seems intransigent, and Mrs. Dubose seems
irritable; for all, hidden inside is a passion for good.
Dolphus Raymond s illusionary portrayal as a drunk white man gives others the
impression he is miscreant. Tricked by duplicity, Scout describes him as an evil man ,
but soon she ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dubose seemed as if they are the meanest people in Scout and Jem s life. However,
through the book the evil apparently in all these people, later shows that if they really
dig deep they see three of the greatest people in Maycomb. Dolphus wasn t a drunk, he
was in love with a woman of the other race and because it couldn t be accepted, he gave
up his image for true love. Aunt Alexandra seemed to have been a mean aunt
originally to Scout, but later Scout could see her as a real beloved family member.
Furthermore, without Scout and Jem knowing Ms. Dubose s real agony and addiction,
she would have never been thought of the nice women they felt she was in the end. All
of their evil was done with the thought of succeeding their happiness, all was out of
good intentions. Perhaps if they all didn t have the display as evil, their lives and the
lives around them would have been truly evil, or even
Renaissance Weapons Essay
Renaissance Weapons, Armor and Inventions
Renaissance weapons, armor, and inventions were varying in size, type and design.
Their variation was due to a variety of needs of war at the time.
During the renaissance there were many different kinds of weapons and armor
commonly used during that time. The most common of those weapons included swords,
daggers, axes, maces, war hammers, bows and crossbows. The most common armors
were chainmail, leather, and metal plate armor. Usually the common foot soldier would
be wearing only the chainmail and maybe a helmet, sometimes even some leather plates.
A knight however, would wear metal plate armor. Nearly all of those suits of armor were
a combination of armors, a Knight would put on a layer of chainmail before donning
their armor so that the gaps that are not protected by the suit have some protection from
the chainmail. An important development in armor technology was the Garniture, a basic
suit of armor that, through the addition of further pieces and plates, could be adapted for
various purposes both on the battlefield and in different types of tournament. (Beiding,
Arms and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Before the renaissance and back to ancient times warships were in place simply to
intercept enemy troop carriers. These skirmishes would be hand to hand and very bloody.
The invention of the cannon changed all of that. During the renaissance, ship designs
were drastically improved and for the most part ships operated solely from sails. Ships
were also made increasingly larger and faster. With the cannon, ships could now
effectively strike land and other naval targets from a long distance, making hand to hand
combat a rarity. (Hollen). These advancements would eventually lead to the kinds of
naval battles that we think of today, like the battles in the Pirates of the Caribbean
movies. Speaking of invention, it is time to see what the renaissance is best known
Essay on Henry VI and the Wars of the Roses
From his fifteen year minority to the inept rule of the rest of his reign, Henry VI was a
child , at least as far as governing ability was concerned. The period of his minority and
the time that he was the titular king laid the groundwork for the Wars of the Roses. Had
Henry been an intelligent king, with at least some political acumen, and the ability to
win the respect of his nobles, their may have never been any Warsof the Roses. But his
weakness in allowing government by favorites and governingfoolishly on his own, at the
very least directed his country down the road to a bloody civil war.
Henry VI was born on December 6, 1421, and became king of England on September 1,
1422. Problems began almost immediately, though these ... Show more content on

Since it was made up of nobles, they tried to protect each others interests, something not
always for the public good.
Even after he had come of age, Henry suffered from a lack of popular support,
something that invariably helps the other side in a civil war. He was considered a
fool by the general populace, which weakened his authority. During his reign, there
were many charges of seditious libel to come before the courts (Storey, 34) and they
usually dealt with someone slandering the king. Common people and yeomen were
calling the king a lunatic , a child, and a fool (Storey, 35). For instance, one Sussex
yeoman called the king a natural fool and said that the king was no person able to rule
the land (Storey, 35). Evidently, if even the common people were slandering the king,
they must have had some basis for it. The king did nothing to prove the people wrong,
rarely going on progresses to smooth out his image. He stayed in the Home Counties for
much of his reign, and even that did not improve his image with the people.
Among the upper classes, he proved over and over again that he was not a good king.
He rarely, if ever, participated in Parliament, and often did not attend sittings of the king
s council. When the council sat at Westminster, Henry usually managed to be somewhere
else (Storey, 35). These actions give a picture of a king who, though solicited for his
opinions, did not want to get involved in the
Critique Of Practical Reason By Immanuel Kant
In Critique of Practical Reason, Immanuel Kant gives an argument for the existence of
God based on practical reason and the moral law. He argues that reason strives for the
highest good, which is a connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 89). Practical
reason runs into an issue when striving for the highest good, however, because there is
no apparent connection between virtue and happiness in the natural world, which
ultimately causes us to reject the moral law (Kant 92). According to Kant, however, we
cannot reject the moral law because this would be rejecting our rationality (Kant 93).
This is because Kant believes that all rational beings must act morally and follow the
moral law as a result of reason. This leads Kant to posit the... Show more content on

When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually
virtuous, according to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not
happiness (Kant 92). However, we also cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness
because we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 92).
This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning that he thinks that
we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since we do
not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if
there is actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem
of having to assume that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law
because we are natural beings, in that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for
it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the moral law is not an option, however, because,
by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity, since he believes that morality stems
from human reason (Kant 93). Therefore, there must be a connection between virtue
and happiness so that we do not have to reject the moral law. This connection must be
made because it would not be rational to strive for the highest good if it was not
possible to do so, and this is what makes it

to help him.
Beowulf enters the battle with Grendel brawny and confident because he has killed so
many other people. The poem quotes No weapon on earth is capable of harming

Arguments In 12 Angry Men
The Arguments of 12 Angry Men In the film 12 Angry Men (1957), directed by
Sidney Lumet, is a film about a group of 12 jurors on a murder case. As the beginning
of the film begins, the men are seen entering the deliberation room to come to a
consensus on the case that was assigned. In the case, a young juvenile is being tried
for the murder of his own father. If he is found guilty, the boy will be sent to the chair
and will die by execution. If he is found not guilty then he will live. As the 12 jurors all
sit down to make a beginning vote (aiming to create a unanimous consensus), only one of
the men votes that the defendant is not guilty of the presented charges. Juror #8, the

The argument started out with juror #8 stating that he didn t know if the kid was guilty
or not, he just believed that there were a lot of holes in the case that would lead him to
believe there is reasonable doubt in the conviction. Though this seemed like a weak
argument, there were many different key points that were made to undermine the
original argument. Jumping from one fact to the next, juror #8 eventually persuaded the
entire group to change their vote to not guilty. Juror #8, when presenting the various
portions of his argument, always remains calm, as well as the other men who eventually
join his side. Juror #4, though on the original position, actually provides a lot of this
logical approach. He admits that the opposition makes sense and when the argument
overrides his, he admits he is wrong and changes his vote. This type of argument, when
proven with ethos and pathos, is successful and will gain logical support to win the

Design Aspect Of Any Engineering Structure, Machinery And...
INTRODUCTION
In design aspect of any engineering structure, machinery and equipment, the stress
concentration is one of the major considerations for the successful design as it can cause
fracture to various mechanical components and the machine, structure may eventually get
failed to function for the purpose it is supposed to be designed. The rectangular plate
with holes and notches find its application in field of automobile, mechanical, aerospace
and marine components. The presence of holes or notches in such components reduces
the mechanical strength due to the large stress concentration near the holes or notches
that causes the alleviation of fracture occurrence under service loads. Therefore, it is
essential to study and analyse the state of stress around the holes and notches and also the
load bearing capacity of these structures or machine components for the optimum design
with safe life of component [1].The cause of highly localized or accumulation of stress
near the change of cross section or clustering of stress lines at the point of discontinuity is
termed as stress concentration [2].The principal cause of stress raisers like holes notches,
because concentrated stresses larger than theoretical cohesive strength will generally
cause local plastic deformation and redistribution of stresses [3].There are different ways
of determining the stress concentration factor in flat plates. Experimental, numerical and
analytical methods are used to determine stress

as the Common Northern Comb Jelly, possess the characteristic eight rows of fused

name for this organismderives from Gelatinous tissue, which is 95% water constitutes the
oblong body of the Bolinopsis infundibulum; this is a major impediment for researchers
as whenever they attempt to obtain samples of this organism the body mostly
disintegrates (Hopcroft, 2008.) Ctenophores such as Bolinopsis infundibulum consume
prey through a utilization of colloblasts, adhesive cells which glue prey to its two

Perpetrator Vs Bystander
I agree with Miles Lehrman when he said that A perpetrator is not the most dangerous
enemy because they re not worse than the perpetrator who watched everything that
happened and didn t say anything it didn t want nothing to do with what was going
on. In my own opinion, I feel as that the person that watched what happened which is
the perpetrator is bad as the bystander because they could do the same thing the

The Process Of Hydraulic Fracturing
Introduction: The process of hydraulic fracturing can be understood at different
geographic scales such as the local, national and global. In order to better understand this
process, the ways in which these scales influence hydraulic fracturing need to be deeply
considered. The original purpose of hydraulic fracturing was to benefit the national and
local economy plus environment of the United States, but due to the large
interdependencies and networks of our world today, impacts at a global scale are
inevitable. By analyzing each scale individually starting with national, local and ending
with global, it will become clear that each scale is interdependent and interrelated with
one another.
Scales:
In our fast paced and globalizing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(Knox, 2010, p.11). Finally at the local scale, this can include human settlements such
as community, home, and body (Knox, 2010, p.11). The local scale can be viewed as
a mosaic, where the world is conceived as a collection of local peoples and places, each
one being a piece in a broader global pattern (Crang, 2014, p. 11). Not only at a mosaic
level does local and global connect, but also through a networking level where both
local and global are made up of sets of connections and disconnections and can see local
places as gaining their different characters through their distinctive patterns of
association with other places (Crang, 2014, p. 18). For the specific case of hydraulic
fracturing, it is more effective to view it through networks at the national, local, and
global levels because a main factor of this resource is boosting the national economy of
the United States by globally exporting the resource. The ability to export the good
requires connections and networking between the different scales.
Hydraulic Fracturing: Hydraulic Fracturing is a process of forcing high levels of
pressurized water underground in order to crack the layer of the earth to release the shale
from the gas reservoir. This method artificially induces underground cracking which was
known in 1947 as hydrafacing (Sica, 2013, p. 25) and over the years this method has
adapted with technological advances and is currently known as fracking. Figure 1, above,
Christian Science Research Papers
Cristian Science Christian Science is an ongoing religious cult that was started in the
early nineteenth century. Mary Baker Eddy was the original founder who started the idea
in the United States during 1879. After a thirty five year revision period, she finished the
Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures. The textbook
was finally published in 1875, which stated all the beliefs of Christian Science. Some of
the beliefs include the tenets of Christian Science. Each tenet explains what a Christian
Scientist believes about God, the Bible, and Jesus. The largest controversy when it
comes to Christian Science is the belief about healing and medicine. They believe that
prayer and spiritual means to heal themselves of any sickness. The concept was
produced when Mary was reading the Bible while being ill. Her idea of spiritual
healing is also believed to be a large part of redemption. If a person does not believe
that God will heal them through prayer, then they are not saved. After teaching a class
her newfound belief on healing, she established a school called the Massachusetts
Metaphysical College. Many of her students became believers and were able to heal
people. It was during this time that the belief grew until the twenty first... Show more

They believe that Jesus is a divine human being that is not considered a deity. While
they do believe in both the crucifixion and resurrection, they do not believe that Jesus
is simply a moral example. Christian Scientists follow the Bible s teachings and the
Trinity. To them, God is omnipotent and purposeful as well. It is taught that God is
infinite love and good. His laws are considered good and the only reality. With the
power of God, one glimpse can overcome sin, sickness, and evil. Over all, the belief is
similar to Christianity except the spiritual healing
Beowulf Symbolism
The epic poem of Beowulf by an unknown author, translated by Seamus Heaney, was
written in England between the 8th and 11th centuries and whose events took off in the
lands of Denmark and Sweden. Everyone has a destiny to fulfill, be rich, be wise, or
simply be an absolute legend, but in the end each man is destined to die, as in the epic
poem Beowulfthe poet demonstrates the use of the symbolism of named Swords which
are Hrunting the Sword that Unferth lends him, the engraved hilt of the sword he finds
in the monster s cave, and finally Naegling the Sword Beowulf uses to fight the dragon,
in the poem swords represent a symbol of battle, the swords that Beowulf used in battle
which express that his ambition and hunger for glory lead Beowulf to his inevitable death.
Everything starts to go south for Beowulf the instant he relies on a sword for battle,
when he wields Hrunting against Grendel s mother, he, Soon found his battle torch
extinguished: the shining blade refused to bite (Heaney, 105). Seeing that Beowulf
already killed Grendel the one that had caused all the agony to the kingdom, he still
decides to go after Grendel s mother, Beowulf s hunger for glory almost gets him killed
and seeing that there was no reason for him to go and kill Grendel s mother except to
gain glory. Furthermore, when Hrunting utterly fails Beowulf it is foreshadowing an
unpleasant outcome for Beowulf, because the sword s reputation had been impeccable, It
had never failed the hand of
Bee Decline Is A Significant Sustainability Issue Of Today...
a. Identify the Issue
Bee decline is a significant sustainability issue of today s environment. Bees are in
decline due to multiple interacting causes. These causes are diseases and parasites,
use of pesticides, monoculture and flowerless landscapes (Spivak, 2013). The diseases
and parasites cause bees to become ill. This makes it harder for bees to access food, as
they are required to travel large distances due to large monocultures and flowerless
landscapes, since changes in farming practices after WWII, when cover crops of clover
and alfalfa, which are nutritious for bees, were no longer used (Spivak, 2013). The
increased use of pesticides also causes bee decline, due to bees consuming them, causing
death, or not finding their way back to the hive due to intoxication.
Bee decline is a sustainability issue due to it affecting environmental, economical and
socio cultural concepts. The decline in bees affects the environment due to the need for
interdependence. All species play a role in the ecosystem; therefore damage in one area
of the system through the decline of the bees causes change to other areas (Littledyke,
2009). This is due to flowering plants requiring pollination. Without bees providing
pollination, the plants cannot produce food crops and reproduce to form other plants,
causing decreases in the biodiversity of plant species (The University of Waikato, 2012).
This not only affects biodiversity of plants, but also means other animal life is affected
as food

Dallas Mavericks Case Study
The Dallas Mavericks have had an interesting offseason to say the least. The free
agency period started off fantastic for the team but got rough very quickly. With the
pending signing of a massive free agent in Deandre Jordan, Mavericks fans were on
cloud nine. We all know how the Jordan saga played out, so Dallas had to look
elsewhere in free agency and through trades. Dallas signed a young shooting guard in
Wesley Matthews and an aging point guard in Deron Williams. The team also traded
for veteran center Zaza Pachulia to bolster their front court. All three of these players
are great assets to the team and will be worked into the Mavericks starting five in 2015

The loss of Tyson Chandler to the Suns through free agency and Deandre Jordan
deciding to stay with the Clippers almost crippled the Mavs. Pachulia won t be the
saving grace for the franchise, but he will bring talent and veteran leadership to the
club. Pachulia put up good defensive numbers for the Bucks last season, and can
really excel at both ends of the floor. A solid role player, Pachulia has averaged 7.0
points and 5.6 rebounds per game during his 12 year NBA career. Pachulia won t
come close to performing like Deandre Jordan or even Tyson Chandler. However, he
will be a solid performer at center this season and has a keen ability to protect the
paint. He ll most likely be sharing court time with Samuel Dalembert and Dwight
Powell so I don t expect much better numbers than his career average. Carlisle tends to
also like to play small ball, sticking Parsons at power forward and Nowitzki at center.
Both of these things could put a damper on the fantasy success of Pachulia. Pachulia is
a very intriguing fantasy option, but I just don t see a supreme value for him going
forward. Taking him as a late round pick in drafts or scooping him up on waivers will
be the best option going forward. There will be plenty of opportunities to grab rebounds
and put back shots for Pachulia, but will that be enough to justify a roster spot on your
team? I say give him a try but temper your

The Debate On The Issue Of Poverty
JUDGEMENT FRAMEWORK
Poverty is a complex issue that has always been around, but has been a growing
concern over time. Holding a debate on the issue of poverty, is one that can easily go
awry due to it s complexity and emotional aspects. In order to evaluate the debate, both
teams need to fully understand the proposal and clearly articulate their stance.
The debate teams need to be able to clearly explain their position, refute the opponent s
argument, provide solutions, provide a stimulating counter examination, and effectively
answer questions from the judges. Other logistical aspects of the debate that will be
judged on is the ability to efficiently use time and allocate it between team members, as
well as refraining from interrupting other debates and keeping an appropriate volume and
demeanor.
There are various general questions that will be utilized in my evaluation of the debate.
Did the teams address what poverty is, how people become poor and remain poor,
explain why it s the individual or society s fault, why we haven t been able to
dramatically keep poverty low, why current efforts are not working, and what new
solutions should be utilized?
I expect both teams to utilize support for their arguments from outside sources and from
the readings. My general expectations for the arguments by both teams is to not only
clearly explain their proposed arguments, but to also

Here are some things I know about bats. Bats are nocturnal, which means they are active
at night. They use echo location. Bats aren t very good with their eyesight, they re
nearly blind! So for this they use their hearing, which is echo location. With echo

these sounds bounce off their body going back to the bat. Which then helps the bats find

Today, its vital role in commercial banking activities lie in the direct effect it has on total

The Killer Angels is a historical examination written by Michael Shaara that depicts the
four days of the Battle of Gettysburg that took place during the American Civil War.
The book presents both, factual retelling of events that took place, and the emotional
experience of living it, using key points from both Confederate and Union sides. The
book is written from the point of view of various heroes by using different characters
personal experiences and descriptive emotions before and during the tragic war. This has

We all think that the civil war was just about southern secession, but in reality, there
were various reason and beliefs that motivated these soldiers to fight for their country.
Northerners simply wanted to restore the Union whereas the Confederates were trying
to gain independence from the Union. This was one of the main reasons why Southern
soldiers were more passionate about the war as they were fighting for their way of life,
while Northerners simply wanted to unite a split nation. Aside from saving the Union,
Northerners didn t understand the importance of slavery and believed that this war was
also based on slavery as mentioned by Thomas Chamberlain: If it weren t for the slaves,
there d never have been no war...that s what it s all about, and that s what them fellers
died for...I don t understand it at all. (343). The Battle of Gettysburg also portrays the
brutality faced by many soldiers, especially citizen turned soldiers like Chamberlain.
Unlike many others fighting, Chamberlain had to struggle to deal with the horrors of
the battlefield and use unconventional methods to survive as mentioned by
Chamberlain: Piled up bodies in front of you to catch the bullets, using the dead for a
shield; remember the sound? Of bullets in dead bodies? . . . Remember the flap of a
torn curtain in a blasted window, fragment whispering in that awful breeze: never,
forever, never, forever. (). In the end, these brutalities faced by these soldiers had
adverse effect on them, as they had to live with these horrors for the rest of their

Notes on Virtue, Tradition and Animal Mating Essay
1.In Rousseau s criticism of the effects of modern civilization, one of his critical themes
that evident is virtue. He believes the new arts and sciences give the appearance but not
the reality of virtue, which he holds to be the true value of civilization. Rousseau seems
to indicate that humans in a state of nature were moral and generally good, because in
their original simplicity they could not deceive one another. The arts and sciences, then,
challenge that basic morality, being created throughout history to disguise our evils.
Rousseau then makes a comparison between Athens and Sparta. He admires the Spartans
because they are virtuous in the literal sense of the word manly. By comparison, the
Athenians, who many think of as a model... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And other societies across the world that remained more traditional are becoming
detraditionalised. This is a society, where tradition has to be defended by traditional
activities that are their own ritual and representation. Giddens speaks of different
forms of tradition, the first is Heritage it is a simpler and commercialized type of
tradition. It developed to be tradition altered as a spectacle. But, heritage is severed
from the essence of tradition, which is its connection with the experience of everyday
life. The rise of addiction comes from decision making. The concept of addiction was
initially applied exclusively to alcoholism or the use of drugs. But, now any area of
activity can become overrun by it. One can be addicted to many things that you cannot go
without. Like tradition, addiction is about the impact of the past upon the present; and as
in the case of tradition, repetition has a vital role. Last, Fundamentalism; is a tradition
defended in the traditional way. Fundamentalism, has nothing to do with the context of
beliefs, religious or otherwise. What matters is how the truth of beliefs is defended or
asserted. Fundamentalism isn t about what people believe but, like tradition is more
about why they believe it and how they try to defend it. 3.There are causes in human
behavior that differentiate, they are proximate and ultimate cause. A proximate cause is
an event which is closest to, or immediately

new food trends, the low fat diet has continued its popularity amongst those trying to

Com Vs Relapse
In order to identify the differences between the terms as an addiction counselor,
medical, literary definition of the three are; lapse, defined by the writers of our textbook
is, the initial return to using after a period of sobriety (p. 262), whereas a relapse is
defined as, a breakdown or setback in a person s attempt to change or modify a target
behavior (p. 262). In other words, a lapse is generally a one time use of alcohol or drugs
by an addict or alcoholic while a relapse would be back to out of control use like they
had experienced before. Recurrence is similar to a relapse. As defined by Dictionary.

Next, a lapse in an individual differs from a relapse, yet can be the focal point or

all over again.
However, when a person experiences a lapse, the signals or warning signs alert the
therapist to seek or investigate what motivated the return as a substance abuse user. Also,
it presents clarity for the individual to gain the knowledge on how to prevent and strength
their mental capacity to prevent future relapses.
Last, recurrence differs because it s the symptoms which bring forth the craving/desires

The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune
In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s
Dune focuses on a stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and
mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects
of a changing global climate most prominently. The role of science fictionisn t so much to
predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with its possible leading avenues.
Dunehas a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the limitation of water
would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life. Thus
Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively
communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and
generation. Herbert focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary
state of living conditions, however with a plethora of limitations and consequences.
Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole serves as an allegory for the dangers of
environmental shortages and damages. Although some may presume the novel Dune as
confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics are often too
dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the
course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the
intertwined complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most
prominently ecological fragility.

Before I came to the RCA and to London, I worked as a textile designer specialising in
the design of men s ties in Seoul, South Korea. My business was relatively small and I
enjoyed making bespoke textiles for my customers. Over time, I got to know my
customers well, and tried to base my designs on this personal knowledge. I wanted the
ties to be more than just mere physical objects; instead I wanted to imbue them with an
emotional attachment that reflected the relationship between me and my customers and
my knowledge of their lives and personalities. I began talking to my customers and
noticed that unconsciously my designs were becoming more dialogical2, a graphical
representation of the conversations and stories we shared.

  • 2. Aboriginal People In Aboriginal People Aboriginal people, often known as Indigenous people, refers to the original people of North America and their descendants, including First Nations, Inuit, and MГ©tis. Data showed that 4.3% of Canada s population is represented by Aboriginal people, which increased by 20.1% between the 2006 and 2011 (Statistics Canada, 2011). Ontario, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia had the largest numbers of Aboriginal people (Statistics Canada, 2011). The median after tax income for Aboriginal people aged 15 years and older in 2010 was $20,060 (Statistics Canada, 2015). In a 2014 Canadian income survey conducted by the Government of Canada (2016), 8.8% of Canadians were below the low income cut offs and were living in poverty, 18.7% of Canadians were Indigenous people on living on a reserve. It is important for sociologists and health care professionals to be aware of the income issues of Aboriginal people in Canada to better understand the social context and health issues that aboriginal people face daily. A large number of Aboriginal Canadians struggle with diabetes. According to Gionet and Roshananfshar (2013), four percent of MГ©tis, two percent of Inuits, and six percent of First Nations living off reserve are living with diabetes in Canada. Diabetes affects the body s production of the hormone, insulin, that works to regulate the amount of glucose in the body (Canadian Institutes of Health Information 2015). Without the proper treatment, diabetes can lead to heart
  • 3. The Importance Of Team Dynamics And Communication Throughout my semester in SciTech, perhaps the most important thing that I took away from my experience was the importance of team dynamics and communication in collaborative projects, and this is particularly true in engineering fields, where it is absolutely essential to success, and, in my opinion, significantly more important than the skill of knowledge of individual team members after a certain point. Every team that I was part of during SciTech, the team for the semester challenge especially, had numerous issues in cooperation and communication, and conflict repeatedly arises, though we eventually learned how best to function together and were able to successfully complete the challenge before D4 with a significant amount of time to spare, though we did have some issues with time management in regard to the FinalReport later. I have found that, although relevant skills to the task at hand, proficiency with SolidWorks or a general aptitude for mechanical engineering for example, organizational abilities, or other things of that nature, these are effectively useless without a developer work ethic, a willingness to accept feedback and learn, the ability to effectively resolve disputes, and good communication, all of which are immensely valuable in a collaborative setting. For example, one of my group members spent more than a week on the quantitative analysis section of the FDR, but I ended up having to redo large portions of it anyway (logbook 3/23), which
  • 4. Chrysler Team-Based Approach Team Based Implementation Chrysler started pushing power to the floor in the late 1980 s, resulting in greater quality and efficiency, as they broke down the symbolic walls between engineering, styling, and production departments and formed platform teams (Zatz, 2006). The automotive industry relies on mass assembly line production which requires large groups of employees to work in concert linking a series of interchangeable parts in an effort to finalize assembly. Chrysler provides an excellent model to discuss a team based approach as it relates to increased productivity and effective cost reductions. Furthermore, the Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger in 1998 outlines Chrysler s fall from grace as it struggled with cross cultural ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... If good teamwork promotes productivity and quality improvement, then why are productivity and quality levels sometimes lower in a team environment (Tudor, 1996)? The truth is more companies fail at achieving a team based approach than succeed, which lends credibility to the significant steps that must be taken to successfully implement and sustain a team based organization. If implemented efficiently, it can afford an organization excellent coverage across all its business operations. In May 1998, when the impending merger of Daimler Benz and Chrysler was announced, it heralded the biggest cross border industrial merger ever (Sarosi, 2016). The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger would systematically pair two of the largest executive boards in the car manufacturing industry in an attempt to successfully implement a team based approach as a necessary first step in their corporate merger. Many of the management and employee issues that would arise during the merger stemmed from diversity in communication styles and cross culture differences. However, it makes the task of basic team based implementation and adherence to the founding principles no less significant. The idea of less management, improving relationships and increased productivity outline the foundation of a team based approach. The Daimler Benz and Chrysler merger presented many challenges as both teams worked to establish a balanced
  • 5. The Origin Of The Efficient Markets Hypothesis Essay The origins of the Efficient Markets Hypothesis (EMH) can be traced back to the groundbreaking progress of French mathematician Louis Bachelier (1900), who proposed the concept of random walk as the fundamental model for financial asset prices. However at that moment the idea was not widely accepted by other academics. Then Samuelson (1965) initiated the modern literature by proving that asset prices in efficient markets fluctuate randomly, and only in response to new information. In 1960s, Efficient Markets Hypothesis was further developed by Paul A. Samuelson (1965) and Eugene F. Fama(1970). In an efficient stock market, the price for any given stock effectively represents the expected net present value of all future profits. Which means, according to the efficient markets hypothesis (EMH), market prices can reflect all available information. After that, the EMH theory becomes one of the pillars of modern financial economics theory. Fama (1970) in a classic paper contributed a great deal to operationalize the concept of market efficiency. Fama defines three types of efficiency, each of which is based on a different notion of what type of information set is understood to be relevant in the phrase: a market in which prices fully reflect all available information is called efficient . (Dr Andros Gregoriou Lecture 1, EMH) He surveyed the idea of an efficient capital market, and made this following famous definition: A market in which prices always fully reflect
  • 6. Automatic Weapon Ban Automatic Weapon Ban July 20th, 2012, twelve are killed and fifty eight are injured at a movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. The man who killed them used a semi automatic rifle with a one hundred round magazine. An automatic weapon has no use in the United States because all sporting events, and activities with guns can be accomplished without automatic weapons. It is important because it limits the possibilities of events like the shooting at the Sandusky school in Ohio. Some would say they are a good for shooting range activity and most people don t commit crimes with them, getting rid of automatic weapons would get rid of the crimes committed with them overall. People die because of the actions taken with with assault rifles. Automatic weapons should be banned in the US because they are not needed for self defense, and they have almost no use in recreational activities. A shotgun can offer just as much or even more protection than an automatic weapon because birdshot, which is a type of shotgun shell, fires multiple little balls at once. A person would only need one of these shots because it has a good radius. Inside a home, it is all close quarters, which removes the use of a long range weapon like an automatic rifle. It is better to have a gun that shoots a radius of projectiles to protect yourself. James D. Torr. stated, A gun is used for protection in less than two percent of home invasion crimes (web). An automatic weapon would not be as efficient because it only

  • 8. Prejudice And Inequality In America An American is a man, a woman, a child who came to the U.S. and started to grow and flourish to become the men and women that feel pride for their country and the freedoms they have through salutes to the country and leaving behind their past heritage to become a citizen of the U.S. We as Americans have very well tried to become who we are today by not being prejudice and not being without freedoms. We strive to be the best we can by saying our pledge of allegiances and our doing as much as we can for our country. Just as my grandfather does every morning by saluting of the flag always hanging in his yard up high. The American people are people of belief be it religion or in their country but we all have it. Even through our mixture of blood... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Americans being, derived from immigrants coming to America on ships, we have a history of being from around the world and having many cultures in our mists. An example of that mixed blood comes from J. Hector St. John de CrГЁvecoeur s writing called What Is an American? has said He is either an European, or the descendant of an European; hence that strange mixture of blood, which you will find in no other country (John De CrГЁvecoeur chunk 2). He states that we are either from europe or we are born from someone who came from europe and that we are a mixed blood of people that you will never see before unless you are in America. As well as the passage before De CrГЁvecoeur states . I could point out to you a man, whose grandfather was an Englishman, whose wife was Dutch, whose son married a French woman, and whose present four sons have now four wives of different nations ( John de CrГЁvecoeur chunk 2). This elaborates on the subject of Americans being of a mixed blood by giving us an example of how mixed we really are and how many cultures and relations between each of them have come together. Americans are not just a nationality we are a symbol of people coming together under one nation of laws and being one in the same and never forgetting what we had in the past. Americans have come together to

In other words, when one type of stimulation evokes the sensation of another. There are many different forms of synesthesia, but the top 6 forms are: lexical gustatory (association between words and tastes), misophonia (sound triggers negative emotions), personification (ordered sequences have personalities), number form (numbers appear as mental maps), chromesthesia (sound to color), mirror touch synesthesia (feeling the same sensation someone else feels) (Halderman, 2016). These are all forms of a rare brain condition that there is no cure for, yet. Most synesthesia s are passed... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Are mirror touch synesthetes able to take on someone else s emotional sensations? These are the questions that this study will aim to answer and a couple different experiments will be done to determine the answers. This study will be all observational research, trying to limit as many extraneous factors as possible. The first will be face perception tests. Subjects will be shown pictures of faces expressing different emotions and researcher s will observe if the subjects emotions are changing as well. • 10. To Kill A Mockingbird Good Vs Evil Essay Most of the evil in this world is done by people with good intentions. T.S. Eliot. The deceptions presented between good and evil are prevalent throughout the historical fiction novel, To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee. In life, nothing is either perfectly good or perfectly evil. It would have been easy to offer a blatant indication of crime, the town s bigotry, Dolphus Raymond s eccentricity, Aunt Alexandra s narrow mindedness, and Mrs. Dubose s nastiness and addiction. Harper Lee, however, always counterbalanced the evilwith the good in order to portray the real complexities of life. Although Dolphus Raymond seems to be nonchalant, behind his rough exterior is forbidden love, similarly, Aunt Alexandra seems intransigent, and Mrs. Dubose seems irritable; for all, hidden inside is a passion for good. Dolphus Raymond s illusionary portrayal as a drunk white man gives others the impression he is miscreant. Tricked by duplicity, Scout describes him as an evil man , but soon she ... • 11. Renaissance Weapons Essay Renaissance Weapons, Armor and Inventions Renaissance weapons, armor, and inventions were varying in size, type and design. Their variation was due to a variety of needs of war at the time. During the renaissance there were many different kinds of weapons and armor commonly used during that time. The most common of those weapons included swords, daggers, axes, maces, war hammers, bows and crossbows. The most common armors were chainmail, leather, and metal plate armor. Usually the common foot soldier would be wearing only the chainmail and maybe a helmet, sometimes even some leather plates. A knight however, would wear metal plate armor. Nearly all of those suits of armor were a combination of armors, a Knight would put on a layer of chainmail before donning their armor so that the gaps that are not protected by the suit have some protection from the chainmail. An important development in armor technology was the Garniture, a basic suit of armor that, through the addition of further pieces and plates, could be adapted for various purposes both on the battlefield and in different types of tournament. These skirmishes would be hand to hand and very bloody. The invention of the cannon changed all of that. During the renaissance, ship designs were drastically improved and for the most part ships operated solely from sails. Ships were also made increasingly larger and faster. With the cannon, ships could now effectively strike land and other naval targets from a long distance, making hand to hand combat a rarity. (Hollen). These advancements would eventually lead to the kinds of naval battles that we think of today, like the battles in the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. Speaking of invention, it is time to see what the renaissance is best known

The period of his minority and the time that he was the titular king laid the groundwork for the Wars of the Roses. Had Henry been an intelligent king, with at least some political acumen, and the ability to win the respect of his nobles, their may have never been any Warsof the Roses. But his weakness in allowing government by favorites and governingfoolishly on his own, at the very least directed his country down the road to a bloody civil war. Even after he had come of age, Henry suffered from a lack of popular support, something that invariably helps the other side in a civil war. He was considered a fool by the general populace, which weakened his authority. During his reign, there were many charges of seditious libel to come before the courts (Storey, 34) and they usually dealt with someone slandering the king. Common people and yeomen were calling the king a lunatic , a child, and a fool (Storey, 35). For instance, one Sussex yeoman called the king a natural fool and said that the king was no person able to rule the land (Storey, 35). Evidently, if even the common people were slandering the king, they must have had some basis for it. The king did nothing to prove the people wrong, rarely going on progresses to smooth out his image. He stayed in the Home Counties for much of his reign, and even that did not improve his image with the people. Among the upper classes, he proved over and over again that he was not a good king. He rarely, if ever, participated in Parliament, and often did not attend sittings of the king s council. When the council sat at Westminster, Henry usually managed to be somewhere else (Storey, 35). These actions give a picture of a king who, though solicited for his opinions, did not want to get involved in the
  • 13. Critique Of Practical Reason By Immanuel Kant In Critique of Practical Reason, Immanuel Kant gives an argument for the existence of God based on practical reason and the moral law. He argues that reason strives for the highest good, which is a connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 89). Practical reason runs into an issue when striving for the highest good, however, because there is no apparent connection between virtue and happiness in the natural world, which ultimately causes us to reject the moral law (Kant 92). According to Kant, however, we cannot reject the moral law because this would be rejecting our rationality (Kant 93). This is because Kant believes that all rational beings must act morally and follow the moral law as a result of reason. This leads Kant to posit the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually virtuous, according to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not happiness (Kant 92). However, we also cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness because we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 92). This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning that he thinks that we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if there is actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem of having to assume that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law because we are natural beings, in that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the moral law is not an option, however, because, by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity, since he believes that morality stems from human reason (Kant 93). Therefore, there must be a connection between virtue and happiness so that we do not have to reject the moral law. This connection must be made because it would not be rational to strive for the highest good if it was not possible to do so, and this is what makes it

INTRODUCTION In design aspect of any engineering structure, machinery and equipment, the stress concentration is one of the major considerations for the successful design as it can cause fracture to various mechanical components and the machine, structure may eventually get failed to function for the purpose it is supposed to be designed. The rectangular plate with holes and notches find its application in field of automobile, mechanical, aerospace and marine components. The presence of holes or notches in such components reduces the mechanical strength due to the large stress concentration near the holes or notches that causes the alleviation of fracture occurrence under service loads. Therefore, it is essential to study and analyse the state of stress around the holes and notches and also the load bearing capacity of these structures or machine components for the optimum design with safe life of component [1].The cause of highly localized or accumulation of stress near the change of cross section or clustering of stress lines at the point of discontinuity is termed as stress concentration [2].The principal cause of stress raisers like holes notches, because concentrated stresses larger than theoretical cohesive strength will generally cause local plastic deformation and redistribution of stresses [3].There are different ways of determining the stress concentration factor in flat plates. Experimental, numerical and analytical methods are used to determine stress

  • 22. The Process Of Hydraulic Fracturing Introduction: The process of hydraulic fracturing can be understood at different geographic scales such as the local, national and global. In order to better understand this process, the ways in which these scales influence hydraulic fracturing need to be deeply considered. The original purpose of hydraulic fracturing was to benefit the national and local economy plus environment of the United States, but due to the large interdependencies and networks of our world today, impacts at a global scale are inevitable. By analyzing each scale individually starting with national, local and ending with global, it will become clear that each scale is interdependent and interrelated with one another. Finally at the local scale, this can include human settlements such as community, home, and body (Knox, 2010, p.11). The local scale can be viewed as a mosaic, where the world is conceived as a collection of local peoples and places, each one being a piece in a broader global pattern (Crang, 2014, p. 11). Not only at a mosaic level does local and global connect, but also through a networking level where both local and global are made up of sets of connections and disconnections and can see local places as gaining their different characters through their distinctive patterns of association with other places (Crang, 2014, p. 18). For the specific case of hydraulic fracturing, it is more effective to view it through networks at the national, local, and global levels because a main factor of this resource is boosting the national economy of the United States by globally exporting the resource. The ability to export the good requires connections and networking between the different scales. Hydraulic Fracturing: Hydraulic Fracturing is a process of forcing high levels of pressurized water underground in order to crack the layer of the earth to release the shale from the gas reservoir. This method artificially induces underground cracking which was known in 1947 as hydrafacing (Sica, 2013, p. 25) and over the years this method has adapted with technological advances and is currently known as fracking. Mary Baker Eddy was the original founder who started the idea in the United States during 1879. The textbook was finally published in 1875, which stated all the beliefs of Christian Science. Some of the beliefs include the tenets of Christian Science. Each tenet explains what a Christian Scientist believes about God, the Bible, and Jesus. The largest controversy when it comes to Christian Science is the belief about healing and medicine. They believe that prayer and spiritual means to heal themselves of any sickness. The concept was produced when Mary was reading the Bible while being ill. Her idea of spiritual healing is also believed to be a large part of redemption. If a person does not believe that God will heal them through prayer, then they are not saved. • 25. Bee Decline Is A Significant Sustainability Issue Of Today... a. Identify the Issue Bee decline is a significant sustainability issue of today s environment. Bees are in decline due to multiple interacting causes. These causes are diseases and parasites, use of pesticides, monoculture and flowerless landscapes (Spivak, 2013). The diseases and parasites cause bees to become ill. This makes it harder for bees to access food, as they are required to travel large distances due to large monocultures and flowerless landscapes, since changes in farming practices after WWII, when cover crops of clover and alfalfa, which are nutritious for bees, were no longer used (Spivak, 2013). The increased use of pesticides also causes bee decline, due to bees consuming them, causing death, or not finding their way back to the hive due to intoxication. Bee decline is a sustainability issue due to it affecting environmental, economical and socio cultural concepts. The decline in bees affects the environment due to the need for interdependence. All species play a role in the ecosystem; therefore damage in one area of the system through the decline of the bees causes change to other areas (Littledyke, 2009). This is due to flowering plants requiring pollination. Without bees providing pollination, the plants cannot produce food crops and reproduce to form other plants, causing decreases in the biodiversity of plant species (The University of Waikato, 2012). This not only affects biodiversity of plants, but also means other animal life is affected as food

Of bullets in dead bodies? . . . Remember the flap of a torn curtain in a blasted window, fragment whispering in that awful breeze: never, forever, never, forever. (). • 35. Notes on Virtue, Tradition and Animal Mating Essay 1.In Rousseau s criticism of the effects of modern civilization, one of his critical themes that evident is virtue. He believes the new arts and sciences give the appearance but not the reality of virtue, which he holds to be the true value of civilization. Rousseau seems to indicate that humans in a state of nature were moral and generally good, because in their original simplicity they could not deceive one another. The arts and sciences, then, challenge that basic morality, being created throughout history to disguise our evils. Rousseau then makes a comparison between Athens and Sparta. He admires the Spartans because they are virtuous in the literal sense of the word manly. By comparison, the Athenians, who many think of as a model... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of addiction was initially applied exclusively to alcoholism or the use of drugs. But, now any area of activity can become overrun by it. One can be addicted to many things that you cannot go without. Last, Fundamentalism; is a tradition defended in the traditional way. Fundamentalism, has nothing to do with the context of beliefs, religious or otherwise. What matters is how the truth of beliefs is defended or asserted. Fundamentalism isn t about what people believe but, like tradition is more about why they believe it and how they try to defend it. 3.There are causes in human behavior that differentiate, they are proximate and ultimate cause. • 38. The Theme Of Environmentalism In Frank Herbert s Dune In undoubtedly one of the grandest science fiction epics of all time, Frank Herbert s Dune focuses on a stunning blend of politics, environmentalism, adventure, and mysticism. Recipient of the Nebula Award and Hugo Award, Dune explores the effects of a changing global climate most prominently. The role of science fictionisn t so much to predict the future, rather than to astound the audience with its possible leading avenues. Dunehas a sparse ecosystem and Herbert explores for instance how the limitation of water would transform the planetary ecology and possible sustenance for human life. Thus Dune, stands as an early example that explores environmentalism and ecology, effectively communicating these novel ideas in the 1960 s to a new and young audience and generation. Herbert focuses on the untapped human potential of transcending the primary state of living conditions, however with a plethora of limitations and consequences. Particularly interesting, the novel as a whole serves as an allegory for the dangers of environmental shortages and damages. Although some may presume the novel Dune as confusing archaic misfit for a science fiction novel, these romantic critics are often too dogmatic in their provincial ideologies. Several warnings are presented throughout the course of the novel on ancient dangers such as the greed of mercantile corporations, the intertwined complications of religion and politics, conflicts of feudalism, and most prominently ecological fragility.
