Little Red Riding Hood And The Company Of Wolves
Both old and new fairy tales today can be said to have a long history and have been
retold through generations for many years. They have even been modified into several
new versions that create ideas and morals in today s society. The tale of both Charles
Perrault s Little Red Riding Hood and Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves ,
demonstrates a notion of violence and sexuality. The two tales closely relate but both
have different perspectives on how to deal with violence and what is interpret with
sexuality throughout the stories.
Charles Perrault s traditional tale Little Red Riding Hood differs from Angela Carter s
The Company of Wolves because, first of all, the story describes the image of the young
girl as the prettiest creature who was ever seen (line 1). She is also represented as naive,
because in line 12 it says the poor child who did not ... Show more content on

Little Red Riding Hood was fooled by the wolf, impersonating her grandmother. From
the tale, one can depict that even children, well raised and attractive, listen to
strangers. The young girl in Carter s tale shows a sense of intelligence because right
when she arrives she knows something is wrong yet, undresses herself. Like said
before, the young girl is more sexually ready, foreshadowing that her virginity may be
lost by the end of the story. She reverses the attraction, mesmerizing the wolf on page
117, small breasts gleamed as if snow had entered the room . Afterward, she takes his
final clothing off on page 118 and flung it into the fire, and the fiery wake of her own
discarded clothing , expressing that because of Carter s background, both figures will
be wolves forever. She also loses her virginity, she sleeps in granny s bed, between the
paws of the tender wolf (page 118), something she can never get back just like her
Strategic Alliance Vs. Acquisition M A And Organic Growth
STRATEGIC ALLIANCE: A strategic alliance is an agreement between two or more
parties to pursue a set of agreed upon objectives needed while remaining independent
organizations. This form of cooperation lies between Mergers Acquisition M A and
organic growth. Partners may provide the strategic alliance with resources such as
products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability, project funding, capital
equipment, knowledge, expertise, or intellectual property. The alliance is cooperation or
collaboration which aims for a synergy where each partner hopes that the benefits from
the alliance will be greater than those from individual efforts. The alliance often involves
technology transfer (access to knowledge and expertise), economic specialization, shared
expenses and shared risk. INtRODUCTION: Nowadays, the commercial competition has
surpassed the limits of the previous era in which dominant markets are protecting their
set market shares. Mega commercial activity back then was completely regulated by the
government. The United States has privatized a lot of sectors related to energy,
telecommunication, and transportation sectors. In response, the USA introduced the
deregulations in the aviation industry to increase the competition in the aviation market.
In the past few years, the commercial air carriers have formed strategic alliances with
each other which were not possible before this due to the previous regulations. The main

The Invention Of The Motorcycle Industries
Born on November 24, 1823 in Francestown, New Hampshire Sylvester Howard Roper
paved the way for the motorcycle industries. Growing up in a family of 6, it was
unexpected that Roper should find himself becoming an inventor. As an adolescent Roper
demonstrated his ingenuity when he made a stationary steam engine. More surprisingly
because Roper had yet to see one for himself in person. As of today s date the invention
is still kept on display at Francestown Academy.
Although Roper is known for his steam powered velocipede, he was quite the inventor.
He patented a wide range of products many that paved the way for future inventors. Such
as sewing machines, automatic fire escapes, machine tools, fire arms and the steamed

By attaching a twin cylinder steam engine powered by charcoal (as stated in the
earlier paragraph) to an iron hickory framed bicycle. Fitted with 34 inch iron shod
wooden wheels, wooden hand grips and a forged iron fork suspension. Roper had
designed it so that the twin cylinders were located on each side of the frame. Which
was connected by rods to the rear wheel axle. Suspended between the wheels on
springs was the boiler and firebox with a short stack that rose behind the saddle styled
seat. Water for the boiler was stored in a reservoir located in the seat, while the
charcoal fire was in a grate below the boiler. As the fire heated the water, it began to
boil and produced the steam which powered the engine. The wooden hand grips also
operated the throttle valve by a cable attached to the valve. To activate the valve one
simply had to tighten the cable, but if you rotated the cable in the opposite direction
you would work the spoon brake located at the front wheel. For added leisure Sylvester
added footrest to the front axle of the now steamed powered motorcycle. According to
local news reports the motorcycle was loud and emitted an acrid odor.
Albert Augustus Pope commission Roper in 1894 to improve and create a new steam
velocipede using a Pope Columbia safety bicycle. Pope wanted to use this as a cycle
pacer for bicycle racing. After Roper had redesigned his steamed powered engine from
his earlier creation the total weight

Adding colored sealers is very inexpensive and can definitely add that decorative effect to

Kinder Morgan
Kinder Morgan MBO Richard Kinder and Bill Morgan purchased a master limited
partnership pipeline company from Enron for $40 million in 1997, founding Kinder
Morgan, Inc. (KMI) 1. The primary benefit of an MLP comes in the form of tax
savings. While shareholders in a corporation face double taxation, owners of a
partnership are taxed only once (when receiving distributions). Corporate income tax
does not exist in the partnership. When cash distributions to MLP owners exceed
partnership the difference is counted as a return of capital to the limited partner and
taxed at the capital gains rate when the unit holder sells. This creates a pass through
entity that is sustainable as long as 90% of the cash flow... Show more content on

Both of these assets (like most of KMI s assets) were exposed to commodity price risk.
However, KMI saw opportunity for long term gains as they internally projected high
commodity prices. Tied in with projections for commodity pricing is the
undervaluation of the company. A major incentive for management in this buyout is
clearly this undervaluation. KMI had been valued between $100 and 120 a share, yet
was trading at only $84. KMI had experienced five years of increasing revenues and its
net income was on an upward trend. KMI was financially healthy and its vast
infrastructure would only continue to generate cash flows. It was a perfect buy low
scenario for the investors that knew the firm the best, the managers. Buy Low, Sell High
There are conflicting desires at work, as management may not be acting in the best
interest of its shareholders. To try and dispute agency conflict, Kinder established a
special committee to make decisions regarding the privatization proposal. The
committee was committed to executing due diligence in finding other alternatives, as
well as, negotiating with any buyout group. MBO s can be stressful on boards as they
feel there is no choice. If the board declines, they will be left not only without a deal, but
also with displeased management. Moreover, other bidders are less inclined to commit
because they do not have management support. The
Sydney Carton Character Analysis Essay
Regret, missed opportunities and an unattainable love plagued the life of Sydney
Carton in Charles Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities. Throughout the novel, every fiber of
Carton s being strove for a change in his miserable existence and a chance to redeem
himself, yet he trudged on and masked his insecurities with drinking and denial. The
shift in his life he had long pined for happened when he goes to the chemist and wanders
around late at night. He was a lost man, but the tone of this passage by Dickens changes
to show Carton s newfound purpose. By shifting from and dark and decisive tone at night
to a light and hopeful tone in the morning, Carton has a metaphorical deathand rebirth. A
shift in tone occurs when the sun rises in the morning, symbolizing his birth into a
newer, purer life. Sydney Carton has transformed from being lost and purposeless into
a savior. Before his redemption, Carton was weak and unsure of what to make of
himself; however, he comes to realize what he must do to save the life of Charles
Darnay. With a decided step (pg), Sydney marches to his future, even though it means
that he will die. The word decided connotes that Sydney has made up his mind; he will
not falter in his actions, and his determination is something that was never present in his
life before this moment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The tone shifts from dark and grim to light and hopeful, full of clarity about what is to
come. When the glorious sun (pg) rises, it sheds a light of optimism on Carton, who
feels as bright as the new morning. Additionally, the Sun stands as an allusion to Jesus.
Both Jesus and Carton died for people that they love. Both men were also redeemed
when Jesus was resurrected and Carton s dreams lived on through Lucie s children.
Furthermore, Biblical parallels of Carton as Jesus are prevalent when Carton repeats the
Bible verse in which Jesus calls himself the resurrection and the life

beautiful. When Ernie s mother died he didn t know what to do. Ernie cried for nearly
a month. Then he dried his tears, and learned how to bake. (70) This shows how he
went through many changes when his mother died. The first way is how he didn t know
to much when he was on the couch eating nutter butters and then he became a very
intelligent. Ernie found out he shouldn t of had dwelled on the past and should live in
the present. Secondly he really didn t know what to do without his mom but then he

Literary Devices In The Book Thief
Promp 2 Liesel Meminger was a girl that went through a lot throughout her life. During
our short time of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions,
struggles, and different changes. Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we
see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the Holocaust. We read this story of
Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during a time like this,
because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his
use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book
describing this girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this
time. One of the first things we see Liesel going through is the separation of her and
her mother. Which leads to her also losing her brother due to the fact that he died
during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s obstacles as when
she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be a
gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the
sentence and take in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel
s thoughts you see how hard this is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same
day that she realizes she will never see him again she is forced away from her mother
and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of the book this might have
been something that happened a lot, but

Both operating companies were wholly owned by affiliates of Chip

How To Write An Essay On Fahrenheit 451
Actually, I played Clash of clans because I couldn t be bothered to invest more than 10
min of my time in playing games. I did use to play Total war series, especially the
Empire total war, but I guess in life there comes a time when games really do start to feel
and seem trivial compared to real life activities. It was never about the development (or
lack thereof) of society, but rather the degradation of critical thinking which such
activities regularly induce in the more receptive spectrum of people, youth in particular.
In relation to the games mentioned, I am not familiar with their titles, although I do
recognize the name Fahrenheit, but mostly from the book called Fahrenheit 451 with
general synopsys being the totalitarian society that uses special fire brigades whose sole

Employees currently log their time using an Excel worksheet. An example of this

required to create the GUI for a timekeeping/payroll system for CMS. The system
should first allow an employee to enter his/her name and record the time he worked on
each project for a given week. Using the spreadsheet above as a guideline, the system
must allow the user to enter his/her name and the name of his/her supervisor. Next, the
user must enter the number of the week for which he is entering time. Assume a
maximum of 52 weeks in a year. Make sure the employee enters only a valid week

Hybrid Automobiles vs. Fuel-efficient Automobiles
Whether for ecological or economic reasons, consumers are feeling a pressing need to
purchase a fuel efficient automobile. However, the array of choices on the market are
staggering. Not only do consumers have the choice between different brands of
automobile manufactures; manufacturers are also offering different types of fuel
efficient cars. Some fuel efficient cars use traditional internal combustion engines
alone; others offer the option to use alternative fuel sources like diesel and biodiesel;
and others yet offer the opportunity to drive a car with an electric or a hybrid engine.
The decision of which fuel efficient car to purchase depends on several lifestyle
factors. Price sensitivity and prestige are issues to be considered when making the
choice between fuel efficient or hybrid car. Concern for the environment and for
reducing dependence on fossil fuel might be an impetus for choosing hybrid over a
fuel efficient traditional car. Moreover, driving and usage patterns are among the most
salient issues impacting the choice between a standard fuel efficient car versus a
hybrid electric car. Generally, standard fuel efficient automobiles are better for drivers
who are price sensitive and who drive longer distances less often, whereas hybrid
electric automobiles will be more attractive to drivers who commute relatively short
distances to work every day. Price, politics, and driving patterns are the most important
points of reference when comparing a hybrid with a
Analysis Of Naomi Shihab Nye
Poetry is the creative means in which emotion is expressed through the literary art of
rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Over time, the distinctive style of poetry has been altered
to create great diversity branching from the traditional poetic style of writing. Missouri
born author, Naomi Shihab Nye, provides a great example of a unique style of writing.
Nye is a poet, songwriter and novelist whose style incorporates everyday objects in her
writing to create a spontaneous, yet thoughtful connection between these everyday items
and the reader. In the most basic form, Nyes poem is about fame. She implies that it is
essentially these little things that we overlook all these everyday, seemingly unimportant
things are really what deserve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This stanza captures the moments in which people are insignificant, or momentarily
overlooked alongside the remainder of the everyday objects in the poem. Nye expresses
how paying attention to these people, even by the simple act of smiling, will make her
famous not to everyone but to them. Similar to a buttonhole or pulley, we will never
forget what we have the ability to do, and it is what we can do that makes an impact on
others rather than something extraordinary. Interest is further maintained throughout the
poem by the use of unique literary techniques. Unlike other poems, Famous does not
rhyme nor does it follow any specific structure. It does, however, correspond with the
spontaneity of incorporating everyday objects by not following a set structure.
Throughout the poem, sibilance, anaphora, parallelism and allusion have been
incorporated to achieve a constant face paced movement throughout the initial seven
stanzas of the poem. These stanzas reflect a constant change in setting, replicating the
insightful thoughts of an everyday person throughout their day, passing insignificant
objects yet subconsciously identifying their importance. This fast paced movement is
maintained through the use of anaphora in lines one, two, five and seven. In conjunction
with anaphora, personification is used to enhance the already vivid image
The Old Testament Prophets
Introduction: Haggai is the prophet that tethers the Old Testament Prophets to second
temple Judiasm and New Testament Christianity. The man himself is covered in
mystery and intrigue. Who is this prophet that comes on the scene and vanishes as fast
as he appears? The context is in a time when the Israelites are back in the land YWHW
promised, yet things feel much different. The temple is not yet in construction and the
Judeans are having trouble with the indigenous Samaritans. Haggai has a challenge,
but he is just the man for the job, and YWH has called him for just the time as this.
Haggai The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means
feast of Yahweh or by contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads
scholars to believe that he was born on a feast day. Another theory is that the writer of
the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like Malachi, gave him a nickname
because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short time. Haggai 1:15
record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year of
King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15
short weeks make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We
also know Haggai existed through other biblical and extra biblical sources. The book of
Ezra contains passages mentioning Haggai initiating the reconstruction of the temple
(Ezra 5:1, Ezra 6:14 15). He is documented in

Like Mattie, Anne lived in a frightful time of the World War II, when the Nazis killed

in order to survive. Both of them had to watch people die at very young ages. But they
had one good thing in common. Mattie and Anne did not give up their hope and
courage even in heartbreaking moments. They tried to look at the bright side when
many people only saw the opposite. This book might have focused mainly on yellow
fever and Mattie s survival at that time, but I think the change that occurred inside her
was important, as well. I wasn t really a big fan of historical fictions because I didn t
like reading books that looked like social studies textbooks. I especially didn t want to
read this book because there was a huge 1793 written on the cover. But lots of people
recommended this book to me and so I decided to give it a shot. After I read the first 2
chapters, I couldn t get my hands off of it. The story was fantastic and inspiring. I liked
the way how the author included direct quotes from that time in every chapter, since it
was fun trying to predict what would happen while reading them. I highly recommend
this book to everyone around my age. By reading this book, they will also realize that

Exhaustion was getting to me and made me want to give up. My legs felt like jelly, and
I did not think I could keep going. Hearing the crowd cheer gave me the courage to
finish the race. I could see someone getting really close behind me, so with all of my
strength left, I took off on a sprint.
As I sprinted, I pulled ahead of all of my competitors. I could see the finish line getting
close, and the cheering from the stands was louder than that at a football game. The
finish line, welcoming and grand, stood just a few hundred feet away. Then, after what
felt like a hundred years, I got to the finish line.
Happiness overcame me as I broke the finish line tape. I stopped for a moment to enjoy
my big win. The amazing feeling of winning filled me with pride. People were crowding
around me to say congratulations. That was the best moment of my life.
Cheering and yelling, I could hear my mom and little sister from the stands. Then, the
medals were given out. When I got my medal, I was so excited because of all of the
hard work I had put into that one race. After the medals were given out, my little sister
ran over to me and embraced me.

recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a new house. My first day of
school finished and I had no clue how to get home, I had to remember what my grandma

home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They
noticed me as the new kid and asked me to come join the walk home. Coming close to
home I was alone again and there was another girl walking in front of me. I was
minding my own business walking home, but she kept looking back at me. I found it
strange but I continued. When she would turn I would turn as well and when she
crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each

Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same
corner she confronts me, why are you following me do need something? I started to

upset.
If you keep laughing we re going to have problems, she says but back then
I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher
In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the
implementation of guided reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has fully
adopted the guided reading program within the past 2 years. A guided reading library
and books for professional development have been purchased, but very little training has
occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach Reading using Jan
Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the least.
Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided reading in
my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided reading in
an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next
school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teachingreading that be used with
every reader, whether they are just beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to
read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to Anita Iaquinta, there are three
fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The first fundamental purpose is to meet
all of the ranges of instructional needs of every student in the classroom. The second
fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it enables students to significantly build
and expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental purpose of guided reading is
for students to learn how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided
reading lessons are completed in small groups

  • 2. Little Red Riding Hood And The Company Of Wolves Both old and new fairy tales today can be said to have a long history and have been retold through generations for many years. They have even been modified into several new versions that create ideas and morals in today s society. The tale of both Charles Perrault s Little Red Riding Hood and Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves , demonstrates a notion of violence and sexuality. The two tales closely relate but both have different perspectives on how to deal with violence and what is interpret with sexuality throughout the stories. Charles Perrault s traditional tale Little Red Riding Hood differs from Angela Carter s The Company of Wolves because, first of all, the story describes the image of the young girl as the prettiest creature who was ever seen (line 1). She is also represented as naive, because in line 12 it says the poor child who did not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Little Red Riding Hood was fooled by the wolf, impersonating her grandmother. From the tale, one can depict that even children, well raised and attractive, listen to strangers. The young girl in Carter s tale shows a sense of intelligence because right when she arrives she knows something is wrong yet, undresses herself. Like said before, the young girl is more sexually ready, foreshadowing that her virginity may be lost by the end of the story. She reverses the attraction, mesmerizing the wolf on page 117, small breasts gleamed as if snow had entered the room . Afterward, she takes his final clothing off on page 118 and flung it into the fire, and the fiery wake of her own discarded clothing , expressing that because of Carter s background, both figures will be wolves forever. She also loses her virginity, she sleeps in granny s bed, between the paws of the tender wolf (page 118), something she can never get back just like her
  • 3. Strategic Alliance Vs. Acquisition M A And Organic Growth STRATEGIC ALLIANCE: A strategic alliance is an agreement between two or more parties to pursue a set of agreed upon objectives needed while remaining independent organizations. This form of cooperation lies between Mergers Acquisition M A and organic growth. Partners may provide the strategic alliance with resources such as products, distribution channels, manufacturing capability, project funding, capital equipment, knowledge, expertise, or intellectual property. The alliance is cooperation or collaboration which aims for a synergy where each partner hopes that the benefits from the alliance will be greater than those from individual efforts. The alliance often involves technology transfer (access to knowledge and expertise), economic specialization, shared expenses and shared risk. INtRODUCTION: Nowadays, the commercial competition has surpassed the limits of the previous era in which dominant markets are protecting their set market shares. Mega commercial activity back then was completely regulated by the government. The United States has privatized a lot of sectors related to energy, telecommunication, and transportation sectors. In response, the USA introduced the deregulations in the aviation industry to increase the competition in the aviation market. In the past few years, the commercial air carriers have formed strategic alliances with each other which were not possible before this due to the previous regulations. The main reasons for the creation of these
  • 4. The Invention Of The Motorcycle Industries Born on November 24, 1823 in Francestown, New Hampshire Sylvester Howard Roper paved the way for the motorcycle industries. Growing up in a family of 6, it was unexpected that Roper should find himself becoming an inventor. As an adolescent Roper demonstrated his ingenuity when he made a stationary steam engine. More surprisingly because Roper had yet to see one for himself in person. As of today s date the invention is still kept on display at Francestown Academy. Although Roper is known for his steam powered velocipede, he was quite the inventor. He patented a wide range of products many that paved the way for future inventors. Such as sewing machines, automatic fire escapes, machine tools, fire arms and the steamed powered ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... By attaching a twin cylinder steam engine powered by charcoal (as stated in the earlier paragraph) to an iron hickory framed bicycle. Fitted with 34 inch iron shod wooden wheels, wooden hand grips and a forged iron fork suspension. Roper had designed it so that the twin cylinders were located on each side of the frame. Which was connected by rods to the rear wheel axle. Suspended between the wheels on springs was the boiler and firebox with a short stack that rose behind the saddle styled seat. Water for the boiler was stored in a reservoir located in the seat, while the charcoal fire was in a grate below the boiler. As the fire heated the water, it began to boil and produced the steam which powered the engine. The wooden hand grips also operated the throttle valve by a cable attached to the valve. To activate the valve one simply had to tighten the cable, but if you rotated the cable in the opposite direction you would work the spoon brake located at the front wheel. For added leisure Sylvester added footrest to the front axle of the now steamed powered motorcycle. According to local news reports the motorcycle was loud and emitted an acrid odor. Albert Augustus Pope commission Roper in 1894 to improve and create a new steam velocipede using a Pope Columbia safety bicycle. Pope wanted to use this as a cycle pacer for bicycle racing. After Roper had redesigned his steamed powered engine from his earlier creation the total weight

  • 6. Kinder Morgan Kinder Morgan MBO Richard Kinder and Bill Morgan purchased a master limited partnership pipeline company from Enron for $40 million in 1997, founding Kinder Morgan, Inc. (KMI) 1. The primary benefit of an MLP comes in the form of tax savings. While shareholders in a corporation face double taxation, owners of a partnership are taxed only once (when receiving distributions). Corporate income tax does not exist in the partnership. When cash distributions to MLP owners exceed partnership the difference is counted as a return of capital to the limited partner and taxed at the capital gains rate when the unit holder sells. This creates a pass through entity that is sustainable as long as 90% of the cash flow... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Both of these assets (like most of KMI s assets) were exposed to commodity price risk. However, KMI saw opportunity for long term gains as they internally projected high commodity prices. Tied in with projections for commodity pricing is the undervaluation of the company. A major incentive for management in this buyout is clearly this undervaluation. KMI had been valued between $100 and 120 a share, yet was trading at only $84. KMI had experienced five years of increasing revenues and its net income was on an upward trend. KMI was financially healthy and its vast infrastructure would only continue to generate cash flows. It was a perfect buy low scenario for the investors that knew the firm the best, the managers. Buy Low, Sell High There are conflicting desires at work, as management may not be acting in the best interest of its shareholders. To try and dispute agency conflict, Kinder established a special committee to make decisions regarding the privatization proposal. The committee was committed to executing due diligence in finding other alternatives, as well as, negotiating with any buyout group. MBO s can be stressful on boards as they feel there is no choice. If the board declines, they will be left not only without a deal, but also with displeased management. Moreover, other bidders are less inclined to commit because they do not have management support. • 7. Sydney Carton Character Analysis Essay Regret, missed opportunities and an unattainable love plagued the life of Sydney Carton in Charles Dickens A Tale Of Two Cities. Throughout the novel, every fiber of Carton s being strove for a change in his miserable existence and a chance to redeem himself, yet he trudged on and masked his insecurities with drinking and denial. The shift in his life he had long pined for happened when he goes to the chemist and wanders around late at night. He was a lost man, but the tone of this passage by Dickens changes to show Carton s newfound purpose. By shifting from and dark and decisive tone at night to a light and hopeful tone in the morning, Carton has a metaphorical deathand rebirth. A shift in tone occurs when the sun rises in the morning, symbolizing his birth into a newer, purer life. Sydney Carton has transformed from being lost and purposeless into a savior. Before his redemption, Carton was weak and unsure of what to make of himself; however, he comes to realize what he must do to save the life of Charles Darnay. With a decided step (pg), Sydney marches to his future, even though it means that he will die. The word decided connotes that Sydney has made up his mind; he will not falter in his actions, and his determination is something that was never present in his life before this moment.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The tone shifts from dark and grim to light and hopeful, full of clarity about what is to come. When the glorious sun (pg) rises, it sheds a light of optimism on Carton, who feels as bright as the new morning. Additionally, the Sun stands as an allusion to Jesus. Both Jesus and Carton died for people that they love. Both men were also redeemed when Jesus was resurrected and Carton s dreams lived on through Lucie s children. Furthermore, Biblical parallels of Carton as Jesus are prevalent when Carton repeats the Bible verse in which Jesus calls himself the resurrection and the life

  • 11. Literary Devices In The Book Thief Promp 2 Liesel Meminger was a girl that went through a lot throughout her life. During our short time of reading about her life we saw her go through so many emotions, struggles, and different changes. Throughout The Book Thief by Markus Zusak we see a girls story during the time of WW2 and the Holocaust. We read this story of Liesel Meminger and wonder how anyone could ever survive during a time like this, because for most people this was an extremely awful time to live in. But through his use of imagery, and other literary devices, Zukas found a way to write a perfect book describing this girl s life and to show how genuinely hard it was to live during this time. One of the first things we see Liesel going through is the separation of her and her mother. Which leads to her also losing her brother due to the fact that he died during their journey to Liesel s new home. This was one of Liesel s obstacles as when she says There was a chaos of goodbyes. . At first this may not look like it would be a gigantic obstacle by how it was worded. But once you read into the context of the sentence and take in how Zukas worded it to fill your mind with the imagery of Liesel s thoughts you see how hard this is for her. Her brother has just died, and on the same day that she realizes she will never see him again she is forced away from her mother and she will also never see her mother again. During this time of the book this might have been something that happened a lot, but

I did use to play Total war series, especially the Empire total war, but I guess in life there comes a time when games really do start to feel and seem trivial compared to real life activities. It was never about the development (or lack thereof) of society, but rather the degradation of critical thinking which such activities regularly induce in the more receptive spectrum of people, youth in particular. In relation to the games mentioned, I am not familiar with their titles, although I do recognize the name Fahrenheit, but mostly from the book called Fahrenheit 451 with general synopsys being the totalitarian society that uses special fire brigades whose sole task is to burn books, consequently the forbidden knowledge contained within. Contemporary world offers far more sophisticated methods, with the main objective usually remaining unaltered.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... o.O Regarding Silmarillion, it is mostly an encyclopedia so we would yet need to see it s adaptation for film, that would do it justice naturally.. Sounds interesting..will look into it. Regarding reality, we already live it and most often than not it s fundaments are to be found in the works of science fiction. How many books already can be understood and seen as a self fulfilling prophecy, starting from Jules Verne onwards.. We do not long for what cannot be, but are in every sense (and now I will use a quote from the movie) sucking the marrow out of life . Life without imagination is like a blank sheet of paper. Only our mind can bring life to it using the infinite spectrum of colours contained deep within our souls. P.S. You still haven t sent the missing prop from the office

Due to its success, CMS is hoping to expand its operations into other parts of Europe. Despite its large size, CMS currently uses a manual/spreadsheet based process for maintaining employee and client data. Management has now decided... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Employees currently log their time using an Excel worksheet. An example of this worksheet is presented below. Notice that the employee s supervisor is listed on the worksheet. A supervisor is currently required to approve his/her employees timesheets by placing his/her initials beside his/her name. Deliverable: For this project, you are required to create the GUI for a timekeeping/payroll system for CMS. The system should first allow an employee to enter his/her name and record the time he worked on each project for a given week. Using the spreadsheet above as a guideline, the system must allow the user to enter his/her name and the name of his/her supervisor. Next, the user must enter the number of the week for which he is entering time. Assume a maximum of 52 weeks in a year. Make sure the employee enters only a valid week number. To record an employee s hours, the user must enter the name of a client, a client s contract and a project. For each of the 7 days in a week, the user must enter hours worked or check a box that indicates the day is a weekend, a holiday, or a vacation day. If the employee fails to enter any hours for a day and fails to check the weekend/holiday/vacation box for that day, the system should warn the user that the given day is missing information. The system should also ensure that if any work hours are entered for a day, the checkbox for that day should NOT be checked. Finally, the system should

However, the array of choices on the market are staggering. Not only do consumers have the choice between different brands of automobile manufactures; manufacturers are also offering different types of fuel efficient cars. Some fuel efficient cars use traditional internal combustion engines alone; others offer the option to use alternative fuel sources like diesel and biodiesel; and others yet offer the opportunity to drive a car with an electric or a hybrid engine. The decision of which fuel efficient car to purchase depends on several lifestyle factors. Price sensitivity and prestige are issues to be considered when making the choice between fuel efficient or hybrid car. Concern for the environment and for reducing dependence on fossil fuel might be an impetus for choosing hybrid over a fuel efficient traditional car. Moreover, driving and usage patterns are among the most salient issues impacting the choice between a standard fuel efficient car versus a hybrid electric car. Generally, standard fuel efficient automobiles are better for drivers who are price sensitive and who drive longer distances less often, whereas hybrid electric automobiles will be more attractive to drivers who commute relatively short distances to work every day. Price, politics, and driving patterns are the most important points of reference when comparing a hybrid with a
  • 16. Analysis Of Naomi Shihab Nye Poetry is the creative means in which emotion is expressed through the literary art of rhythm, rhyme and repetition. Over time, the distinctive style of poetry has been altered to create great diversity branching from the traditional poetic style of writing. Missouri born author, Naomi Shihab Nye, provides a great example of a unique style of writing. Nye is a poet, songwriter and novelist whose style incorporates everyday objects in her writing to create a spontaneous, yet thoughtful connection between these everyday items and the reader. In the most basic form, Nyes poem is about fame. She implies that it is essentially these little things that we overlook all these everyday, seemingly unimportant things are really what deserve... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This stanza captures the moments in which people are insignificant, or momentarily overlooked alongside the remainder of the everyday objects in the poem. Nye expresses how paying attention to these people, even by the simple act of smiling, will make her famous not to everyone but to them. Similar to a buttonhole or pulley, we will never forget what we have the ability to do, and it is what we can do that makes an impact on others rather than something extraordinary. Interest is further maintained throughout the poem by the use of unique literary techniques. Unlike other poems, Famous does not rhyme nor does it follow any specific structure. It does, however, correspond with the spontaneity of incorporating everyday objects by not following a set structure. Throughout the poem, sibilance, anaphora, parallelism and allusion have been incorporated to achieve a constant face paced movement throughout the initial seven stanzas of the poem. These stanzas reflect a constant change in setting, replicating the insightful thoughts of an everyday person throughout their day, passing insignificant objects yet subconsciously identifying their importance. This fast paced movement is maintained through the use of anaphora in lines one, two, five and seven. In conjunction with anaphora, personification is used to enhance the already vivid image

The man himself is covered in mystery and intrigue. Who is this prophet that comes on the scene and vanishes as fast as he appears? The context is in a time when the Israelites are back in the land YWHW promised, yet things feel much different. The temple is not yet in construction and the Judeans are having trouble with the indigenous Samaritans. Haggai has a challenge, but he is just the man for the job, and YWH has called him for just the time as this. Haggai The person: Little is known of the prophet Haggai. The name Haggai means feast of Yahweh or by contraction, Hagariah means Yahweh hath girded. This leads scholars to believe that he was born on a feast day. Another theory is that the writer of the book recorded Haggai s prophecies later, and like Malachi, gave him a nickname because he prophesied on feast days. He prophesied for a very short time. Haggai 1:15 record the dates of Haggai s prophetic ministry. He prophesied in the Second year of King Darius (521 486), in the year 520 from August 29th to December 18th. These 15 short weeks make up one of the smallest prophetic ministries in the prophetic books. We also know Haggai existed through other biblical and extra biblical sources. The book of Ezra contains passages mentioning Haggai initiating the reconstruction of the temple (Ezra 5:1, Ezra 6:14 15). He is documented in
  • 18. Fever Book Report Fever is a wonderful historical fiction by Laurie Halse Anderson. She has written many historical novels and Fever is one of her greatest works. This story took place in Philadelphia in 1793, when yellow fever just began to strike and kill thousands of people . Matilda Cook little Mattie is a daughter of a coffee shop owner. She s a fourteen year old girl who works for her widowed mother. She works with a girl named Polly and a kitchen cook Eliza, a woman from the Free African Society. Mattie always tries to make her family s coffee shop the finest in Philadelphia. In this book, she encounters a monster known as yellow fever. It kills many innocent people and gives sorrow to those who are left. Mattie has to learn how to survive this horrible... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Like Mattie, Anne lived in a frightful time of the World War II, when the Nazis killed many Jews, blaming that they were the reason why Germany was defeated in the World War I. Both Mattie and Anne had to leave their homes and hid somewhere else in order to survive. Both of them had to watch people die at very young ages. But they had one good thing in common. Mattie and Anne did not give up their hope and courage even in heartbreaking moments. They tried to look at the bright side when many people only saw the opposite. This book might have focused mainly on yellow fever and Mattie s survival at that time, but I think the change that occurred inside her was important, as well. I wasn t really a big fan of historical fictions because I didn t like reading books that looked like social studies textbooks. I especially didn t want to read this book because there was a huge 1793 written on the cover. But lots of people recommended this book to me and so I decided to give it a shot. After I read the first 2 chapters, I couldn t get my hands off of it. The story was fantastic and inspiring. I liked the way how the author included direct quotes from that time in every chapter, since it was fun trying to predict what would happen while reading them. I highly recommend this book to everyone around my age. By reading this book, they will also realize that historical novels are as good as fantasy

I was at Goddard Middle School for my fourth grade cross country meet. My fourth grade cross country race shaped me to be the person I am today by showing me the feeling of winning and it taught me sportsmanship. The rain, a monster, had been going on all day. People waited patiently around the track to hear if the meet would be cancelled. The rain was starting to form puddles of mud all over the wimpy track. The rain seemed like it would never end. Finally, the rain cleared and the meet was able to start. I was standing at the starting line of the mile long course. All of the girls lined up around me finally made feel nervous ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Exhaustion was getting to me and made me want to give up. My legs felt like jelly, and I did not think I could keep going. Hearing the crowd cheer gave me the courage to finish the race. I could see someone getting really close behind me, so with all of my strength left, I took off on a sprint. As I sprinted, I pulled ahead of all of my competitors. I could see the finish line getting close, and the cheering from the stands was louder than that at a football game. The finish line, welcoming and grand, stood just a few hundred feet away. Then, after what felt like a hundred years, I got to the finish line. Happiness overcame me as I broke the finish line tape. I stopped for a moment to enjoy my big win. The amazing feeling of winning filled me with pride. People were crowding around me to say congratulations. That was the best moment of my life. Cheering and yelling, I could hear my mom and little sister from the stands. Then, the medals were given out. When I got my medal, I was so excited because of all of the hard work I had put into that one race. After the medals were given out, my little sister ran over to me and embraced me. Good job! she congratulated me. Thank you! I m so glad that you came! I
  • 20. My Best Friends From Enemies to Best Friends First day of 7th grade was amazing! Final period came and it was computer class. We would just sit on the computers and learn how to type fast. Once I finished I would play online games while everyone else got into groups. I sat alone because I had recently transferred to a new school due to moving to a new house. My first day of school finished and I had no clue how to get home, I had to remember what my grandma told me and just trust my gut. Walkinghome wasn t so bad but I took the longest way home. There was a group of girls I thought seemed nice so I followed them. They noticed me as the new kid and asked me to come join the walk home. Coming close to home I was alone again and there was another girl walking in front of me. I was minding my own business walking home, but she kept looking back at me. I found it strange but I continued. When she would turn I would turn as well and when she crossed the street I would too. It was accidental not knowing we lived close to each other but I can tell it was making her mad and confused because she kept looking back with a mean mug. Finally, I was almost home and she turns a corner and right before I turn the same corner she confronts me, why are you following me do need something? I started to laugh and roll my eyes, she didn t know why I was laughing so she started to get really upset. If you keep laughing we re going to have problems, she says but back then
  • 21. I Am A Second Grade English Language Arts Teacher In my five years of being a third grade English Language Arts teacher, the implementation of guided reading has been my biggest struggle. My school has fully adopted the guided reading program within the past 2 years. A guided reading library and books for professional development have been purchased, but very little training has occurred. The journey of learning how to successfully teach Reading using Jan Richardson s approach to guided reading has been a challenge to say the least. Scheduling has been the largest obstacle I have faced in implementing guided reading in my classroom. I have spent this summer researching and reading about guided reading in an attempt to gain further understanding of the process and the outcomes before the next school year begins. Guided reading is a method of teachingreading that be used with every reader, whether they are just beginning to read, struggling to read, or are able to read independently (Iaquinta, 2006). According to Anita Iaquinta, there are three fundamental purposes for using guided reading. The first fundamental purpose is to meet all of the ranges of instructional needs of every student in the classroom. The second fundamental purpose for guided reading is that it enables students to significantly build and expand their reading abilities. The final fundamental purpose of guided reading is for students to learn how to read increasingly difficult texts (Iaquinta, 2006). Guided reading lessons are completed in small groups
