An Analysis Of The Trading Of Derivatives

An Analysis of Trading in Derivatives
12 years ago, Warren Buffett warned that derivatives were financial weapons of mass destruction
(Lenzner). 6 years after he made this statement, derivative traders helped induce the biggest financial
crisis in America since the Great Depression. Derivatives are highly complex financial instruments
that have fundamentally changed the way we perceive finance. Trading these derivatives has caused a
financial revolution that has generated both a huge amount of potential, and an an equally huge
amount of risk. Derivatives, in a nutshell, are highly complex financial instruments whose values are

Because companies have the ability to swap an extensive variety of things, swaps are often
overarchingly defined as an exchange in future cash flows (IP). One common type of swap is an
interest rate swap. In this case, a company agrees to swap some or even all of their interest rate
payments with another company. Interest rate swaps can occur because companies with different
backgrounds and reputations will usually generate different credit ratings. These credit ratings often
correspond to differing interest rates charged by lenders. For example, an established and reliable
company may experience a high credit rating and receive a fixed interest rate, while a newer and more
opaque company may experience lower credit ratings and receive a variable interest rate. These
companies can opt to swap interest rate payments if each believes that the opposing party s interest
rate setup will eventually turn out to be more advantageous in the long run. In effect, these companies
are utilizing a comparative advantage in order to achieve their financial goals.
Another example of a swap is a credit default swap (CDS). By selling CDS contracts, banks offer an
extremely attractive option to people who are lending money to major companies. A credit default
swap contract basically ensures a lender that a bank will financially cover all of his/her losses if
his/her lent credit were to somehow default. The bank will do this in exchange for regular payments

The National Association Of Social Workers Code Of Ethics...
Social work is a very unique profession. The other professions that are in the same realm as social
work are very specialized, however, social workers must have a broad range of knowledge in order to
help their clients. This is where multiple agencies come together to make sure professionals are
properly trained and knowledgeable. In the field of social work, ethics and values are the key
principles that provide the basis for the mission. It is these principles that guide the decisions and
actions of everyone in the profession. Without a clear set of guiding principles, social work
professionals could do more harm than good. This profession sees people during highly emotional
times in their lives, and that can be extremely challenging. The National Association of Social
Workers Code of Ethics not only sets the standards, but also guides a social worker through dealing
with ethical dilemmas. As we evolve as a society, so have the guiding principles and values for the
social work profession.
The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has written a code of ethics that serves many
purposes. The main purpose is to identify the core ethics and values that provide the foundation for the
profession. It details six basic principles for social workers to follow: service, social justice, dignity
and worth, human relationships, integrity, and competence (National Association of Social Workers,
1999). The code acts as an ethical guide for students, and those professionals just

Aneurysm Essay
Introduction
Despite considerable advances in surgical treatment, the ruptured human abdominal aortic aneurysm
(AAA) is still associated with a mortality rate of 65 85% [1, 2] . A diameter is currently the only
reliable determinant of the imminent rupture of an AAA and patients exceeding 5.5 cm generally
undergo surgical or endovascular intervention [2, 3] . However, the outcome of rupture is poor with
less than half of the patients being delivered to the hospital alive [1, 4] . It is well known that
inflammation and proteolytic degradation markedly contributes to the formation and rupture of an
AAA [5, 6] . During inflammation, the aortic wall is weakened by loss of smooth muscle cells (SMCs)
and destruction of the extracellular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Hence, another study described increased expression of ADAM 17, also known as TACE (TNF
converting enzyme), in human AAA [18] . Especially in the transition zone, high levels of ADAM 17
and TNF have been detected , implementing a certain role in the development of AAA. Therefore, the
aim of the present study was to conduct an expression analysis of ADAMs with proteolytic function
[19] such as ADAMs 8, 9, 10, 12, 15 and 17, and their tissue inhibitors of metalloprotease (TIMP) 1
and TIMP 3 [20] in human AAA by quantitative PCR. The localisation of the corresponding ADAMs
was determined by means of immunohistochemistry.
Discussion
The development of AAA is closely associated with alternation of connective tissue in the aortic wall,
especially fragmentation of elastic fibres and collagen degradation through various proteolytic
enzymes, particularly MMPs [8, 9, 22] . Some promising drugs inhibiting MMPs have already been
shown to be successful in experimental models [23] . However, no positive results have been observed
in clinical trials. This phenomenon may be based on the fact that MMPs are not the only proteinases
able to degrade connective tissue. There is a plethora of proteolytic enzymes belonging to the family
of metalloproteinases such as ADAMs with multiple biological roles including cell matrix interaction,
zymogen activation (shedding) and cell adhesion. These

Using Michael Porter s Five Forces model it is possible to gain an understanding of where Virgin
stands in relation to the competition and how it can adjust to increase its competitiveness. The diagram
below is a graphical representation of Porter s model.
Threat of New Entrants
1. Threat of Foreign Carriers Many large foreign airlines are expanding their reach to new market
segments that are likely to encroach on Virgin s market share. Emirates air, Cathay Pacific, and Qatar
airlines have all been successful at stealing market share from their US competitors on domestic and
international routes (Mayerowitz, 2008).
2. Low Cost and Regional Airline Startups Companies like Jet Blue, Ryanair (European), and EasyJet
(AirTran) are all LCC s that have potentially devastating effects on market share for larger more
expensive airlines (The Economist, 2004).
Bargaining Power of Suppliers
1. Fuel Companies Fuel is one of the airline industry s largest variable costs (on average 40% of their
budget). Aside from hedging or put and call options, which can backfire, airlines are at the mercy of
fuel companies and have very little bargaining power (Hargreaves, 2012).
2. Aircraft Manufactures Manufacture rates are typically discounted by

Write An Essay On Opiates
Opiates are a class of medications that are supposed to help relieve pain. When used correctly, they
prevent pain signals from reaching the brain. Unfortunately, opiates can become addictive over time.
Once someone is addicted, one of the first questions they ask is, How long do opiates stay in your
system? The answer to this question depends on the individual, the severity of their addiction and the
length of their addiction.
How Long Do Opiates Stay in Your System After Using Them?
An estimated 26.4 to 36 million people in the world are believed to abuse opiates. In general, opiates
have a short half life. This means that the chemicals leave the body fairly quickly. Depending on the
type of opiate, it can take a few hours or longer for the chemical to leave the body.

Differences Between Fahrenheit 451 Book And Movie
Besides sound effects and visuals in a movie, descriptive language in a book, both are usually very
similar. Specifically, between the book and the movie Fahrenheit 451, the two share many of the main
ideas, but have multiple differences. A couple of the top major differences in the movie are that
Clarisse doesn t die and they omit to tell or mention that there is a war going on. Some similarities are
the characters personalities and looks. All of these things have impact on how the movie and book
contrast and compare to each other. Characters in the book and movie are mostly the same to each
other. For example, Mildred/Linda and Clarisse are almost exactly the same to their character in the
movie and book. Clarisse is still curious and imaginative while, Mildred/Linda is still shallow. In the

to Clarisse s role. Her role was to help him realize that the society was bad by being the example. One

John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay
In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third
meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the
individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and no
two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s
assumption crumbles. All photographs communicate one absolute truth.
Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective within
a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth, however, is
beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph becomes
ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and weather
captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph. Berger does
not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes landscapes because
they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or weather of a landscape, but
the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to apply meaning to landscapes is
that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and psychology to create a mythical truth, or a
personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal and singular, thus escaping Berger s
imagination.
If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the
meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph?
Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph;
thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph
must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed
Berger any room for a personal reading.

Scourge Alternate Ending
The stillness of the night was shattered with the sound of footsteps pounding on the uneven pavement.
Deep into the darkened, abandoned streets they ran. One after the other; a partnered duo after the
mysterious vigilante, who wreaked havoc, and tarnished Samuel s name and records. Samuel s feet
burned, his chest ached, but his steps didn t falter. The Scourge was almost in their grasps, despite
manoeuvring expertly around trash canisters, fallen objects, trying to shake them as they darted
through the darkness of the backstreets. With Kushan s help, they had managed to locate and find their
target. The two had approached The Scourge, each had his gun held up, and about to call out freeze!
when The Scourge suddenly bolted. On they ran, further and deeper into the ruins of the old city, until,
eventually, The Scourge took a wrong turn into a dead end. Samuel and Kushan quickly lifted their

Molar Volume Lab
Determining the Molar Volume of a Gas

24 April, 2015
Purpose:
In this experiment, the molar volume ( the volume occupied by one mole of a gas) of hydrogen gas at
standard temperature and pressure is measured. According to Avogadro s Law, at the same temperature
and pressure, equal volumes of gases contain the same number of molecules. Therefore the volume of
any given gas must be proportional to the number of moles of molecules present when the temperature
and pressure are constant. The reaction used to produce hydrogen is : Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl2(aq)
+ H2(g). The reaction is carried out with excess hydrochloric acid, therefore the volume of hydrogen
gas produced would depend on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As a result, the calculated volume of hydrogen gas at STP and the molar volume would also be too
high as a result of this error because the calculation of the volume of hydrogen gas at STP and the
molar volume depends on the experimental results of the measured volume of hydrogen gas.
Therefore, when the measured volume of hydrogen gas at STP becomes too high, the calculated
volume of hydrogen and the molar volume would also be too high.
8. A student noticed that the magnesium ribbon appeared to be oxidized the metal surface was black
and dull rather than silver and shiny. What effect would this error have on the measured volume of
hydrogen gas? Would the calculated molar volume of hydrogen gas be too high or too low as a result
of this error? Explain.
The black and dull surface caused by oxidation would form MgO. When MgO react with HCl, it
would not produce hydrogen gas. Therefore the reaction of Mg and MgO would produce less gas than
the reaction of only Mg. As a result, the measured volume of hydrogen gas would be too low and
would affect the calculated volume of hydrogen gas and the molar volume of hydrogen gas. The
calculated volume and molar volume of hydrogen gas would be too low as a result of this

Samuel Huntington s The Clash of Civilizations and the...
Abstract Samuel Huntington s The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order defines
eight major civilizations on the basis of religion. This division of global powers can be used to prove
that the Western civilization will never completely dominate the global media. While Western thought
tends to lead to a more representative form of government, and consequently a more libertarian or
social responsibility based media, the other belief systems of the global powers tend to lead to more
authoritarian government and media formats. This difference creates constant conflict between the
global powers, thus disabling any one civilization from subjugating the others. Issue Paper In The

However, for the purposes of this paper, one must associate each religion with one or two countries to
have some basis for analysis of the current events pertaining to each religion, and more importantly,
the clash between that religion and Western thought. Therefore, Sinic/Confucian thought will be
associated mostly with China, Hindu with India, Islam with the Middle Eastern and North African
countries, Orthodox with countries of the former Soviet Union and Western with the United States and
western European countries. The African continent will only be dealt with in the context of Islam, as
traditional African religious are too variant and do not usually fit with one of the four theories of the
press. The Western media is characterized by a Judeo Christian belief system and a libertarian or
social responsibility theory of the press. Typically it is expected that these two sets of ideas will keep
their distance from one another, thereby providing as little influence upon each other as possible. This
is not true with most of the other world s civilizations/religions. In most other civilizations, the
government and the media have close ties. This it at the root of the argument against the West s ability
to completely dominate a global media. While only 0.2% of the Asian population practices
Confucianism, this figure constitutes 0.1% of the world s population. Confucianism is most heavily

Introduction Over the years, with the corporate development and social or statutes pressure, some
concepts and standards related with audit is uncertainly or ambiguous. The obvious question is
whether auditors should be blame when they failing to warn investors to ailing firms financial
problems and risks (McNabb, 2009). In my opinion, auditors should be blame when they did not
provide sufficient and useful information to alert to investors. Prior to answer the question, according
to the NZICA (2007) required that be a auditor should to compliance with the code of ethics five

In additional, audit is also usefully to managers, auditors will examine apartment s performances and

market crash, investors require auditors expose whether the company s financial statements is
correctness and represented the reality economy situation about the company more important than
some small embezzlement in the company (Van Peursem Pratt, 2006). The investors will make money
when their shares indexes that will be influenced by whether the company has powerful and profitable

collect auditors reporting for relative company to help them to choose a good companies stock.
Therefore, if the information auditors exposed is incorrect and false, it will make many investors lose

public investors when they discover some financial risk in the company. However, some financial risk

The Global Work Force And Cross Cultural Negotiation
We have nothing to fear, but fear itself. How ever true this might be, it is human nature to feel fear,
and more importantly fear of the unknown. Often fear leads to mistrust, which can finish a negotiation
before it has even begun. IN today s increasingly globalised world, being culturally prepared and
culturally aware allows negations to at least commence smoothly and efficiently. Globalisation has
brought everyone on earth closer together, we can be chatting to someone in Argentine, and emailing
someone in Shanghai. Organisations have tapped into the global work force and cross cultural
negotiation is by product of this. How ever when negotiating across culture, negotiators must always
remember that the cross cultural differences are not the issue up for debate, and through many social
cues we can see how different cultures and behaviours different to our own can insight fear, and fear
of the unknown, nearly hijacking the negotiations. This is evident through many things, whether it is
almost superficial concepts, such as language, gestures and eye contact. It is also evident through
more profound explanations such as time orientation. Despite the overwhelming amount of literature
asserting the major differences in cross cultural negotiation, there are many experts in the field who
disagree. We contrast the pre discussed notions and can see that cross cultural differences are also a
smokescreen for many negotiators to hide behind for many reasons. This contrast to the

I can truly say that writing this piece has been one of the hardest tasks. In writing, I discovered things

This society has reached the point where life no longer has any value, no rules and is sensitized to
violence and cruelty. Politics of the extreme left and far right have only polarized our society even
more. In the issue of abortion an innocent life can be taken legally, like when the germans killed Jews
legally, like when blacks were lynched here legally. At one point abortion was illegal and now it is not,
now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is not bad then why
hide it? And if we are so sexualized, then why are we not responsible for the side effects of one night
stands and unplanned pregnancies? If I tell my friends to not have an abortion they look at me like I
am crazy, as if it is normal to kill their babies with or without remorse or consequences because it is
legal. In this world, ending a life is just a phone call away and a trip to the murder s office, with the

Description Of A General Strategy
I used a general strategy throughout the entire simulation. Fist I calculated whether to overstock or
understock each of the phone models. Next, I found the demand estimates based on the standard
deviation and the stocking levels of each model. Also, I picked the design features based on the
opinions of the members of my team, or using a consensus forecast. I did however constrain the
number of features so it didn t decrease the uncertainty in demand. The board members all had
different objectives that I took into consideration throughout the simulation.
I used cost as the basis for my decision of production distribution. I gave precedence to on shore
production facilities. Production of both Model A and Model B was distributed in favor ... Show more

In order to minimize the overstocking, the forecast estimates for Model A were reduced; this caused
continual understocking throughout the year and resulted in no inventory at the end of the year.
The Market Survey was used this year to help successfully estimate the demand.
Similar to year one, a change order was necessary to avoid understocking of Model A.
Year Three
In year three, forecasting was altered to prevent stockout of Model A. As a result, both Model A and
Model B stocks were unutilized.
I did not change order in year three. Looking back, a change order would have helped decrease
production of Model B due to outside factors that foresaw the decrease in demand.
Year Four
During year four, I chose a careful forecast for Model B. The main reason for this was due to the high
standard deviation in forecast demand.
The on shore production facilities had a 100 percent utilization, which meant the demand for Model B
would not increase immediately. Therefore, outsourced facilities had to be utilized, resulting in a big
lead time. Furthermore, I needed to use the extra production facility that I had not used in the previous
years.
In this year, Model B saw a big amount of stockouts, therefore, there had to be a decrease in
production of Model A to make room for Model B; this was not effective.
Final Observations
The simulation was challenging for many reasons.

United States vs South Africa Healthcare
AFRICA VS UNITED STATES
In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance
for people in different communities. The state contributes about 40% of all the expenditures on health
while the public health sector delivers 80% of the population. Many resources are concentrated in the
private health sector. These resources see to the health needs of the remaining 20% of the population.
Public health consumes around 11% of the government s total budget. The way the resources are
allotted, and the standard of health care delivered, varies from country to country. Although there are

a lower ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Theses similarities are associated with rapidly rising cost and large, underserved populations. It is also
important to recognize the significant differences between the United States and South Africa. South
Africa is also less developed and has fewer resources than the US. South Africa has a large private
sector that is balanced to absorb management technology pioneered in the United States.
There is a move from a noncompetitive insurance environment to a competitive one because the
competition was not by hospitals to provide the best and cheapest care, but rather among the insurers
to get the healthiest patients. Consumer driven plans are central to the process because they are ideal
for risk selecting the young and fit who have been driven to new plans. Healthy people could watch
their account balances grow which leaves the truly sick behind in traditional plans. This particular type
of competition is being used to attract the healthy and in turn lead to price increases because insurers
have little incentive to control the prices medical providers are charged. It is the responsibility of the
patients to worry about the cost and the patient does not have the same power as the insurance
competitors do. According to a key South African regulator, Alex van den Heever of the Council for
Medical Schemes, Competition based on the shifting of risk

The Beloved Country By Alan Paton
Family in Cry, the Beloved Country
One cannot run from hardships, for they occur every day, appear suddenly, and can quickly consume
hope. Instead one must face these difficulties and overcome them. However, to rise above obstacles
alone would only cause further misery and despair. The struggler s family should rally behind him to
comfort and assist him in his time of need. In Cry, the Beloved Country, a 1948 contemporary novel,
Alan Paton uses parallelism to emphasize the importance of family because when individuals
encounter hardships they need support from others to help them.
Primarily, tribal families encourage those who suffer with kind words and actions. Stephen Kumalo, a
man filled with pain and suffering , speaks of the hope he receives from others when he says, There is
my wife, and you, my friend, and these people who welcomed me, and the child who is so eager to be
with us here in Ndotsheni so in my suffering I can believe (261). Paton uses the parallel structure
polysyndeton to show how many people from one s family will go out of their way to lift one s spirits
and renew one s faith in God. Cry, the Beloved Country shows readers that even in difficult times one
can find family eager to provide solace to those in need. Whenever there comes trouble, one can
always count on family to rekindle lost hope.
Although family cannot entirely relieve one of misery, their presence can soothe the pain. When
Kumalo hears of his sister s sickness and must leave

Morrie Monologue
As a kid I always heard the question what s the meaning of life? no one would know the answer but
people always had their own opinion and had found purpose in life. Morrie schwartz had found
purpose in life and learned how to live. Morrie schwartz had ALS a disease that kills people over time.
Once Morrie learned he was dying he wanted to teach the world what it was like. Morrie teaches us
how to live life by teaching us to not feel sorry for ourselves, to accept death, and to be comfortable
with showing emotions.
On the second tuesday Morrie teaches people to not feel sorry for themselves. In the morning Morrie
only gives himself a few minutes to feel sorry for himself then he looks forward to the good thing for
the day and looks forward to the people he will see that day. Mitch, I don t allow myself any more self
pity than that. A little each morning, a few tears, and that s all. (Albom 57). I feel that people feel sorry
for themselves too much and that they should limit that time and look forward to the good things more
often. Every summer I have to go to my dad which is 3 hours away and I feel self pity because I would
like to be here more with my friends, but thats why I look forward to coming back at the end of

Morrie believes If people can accept death than they can learn how to live and get more involved with
others. Everyone knows they re going to die ... but nobody believes it. If we did, than we would do

their lives but maybe if they can accept it than they could do more things with their lives. I feel that if
I was to die right now than I would be upset with myself with not accepting it and not doing things

A Research Study On Varicella
RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES
VARICELLA
Hernan Ramirez
Health Science Technology
3/4/2016
Varicella Varicella is a virus that is caused by Varicella Zoster Virus ( VZV ) or also known as
chickenpox. Back in 1875, Steiner proved that the virus can only spread through body fluids from
other people who have the Varicella. People often did not know the difference between chickenpox
and smallpox until the late 90 s. Every year there are about 3.5 million cases of varicella, 9,000
hospitalization, and estimated about 100 150 deaths. In order to prevent that from happening you may
want to get the vaccine that saves about 100 deaths from happening.
Pathophysiology
Varicella Zoster Virus is a DNA virus and has almost the exact same genes of herpesvirus group
(www.cdc.gov). Which also makes the Varicella be part of the same family and strand of DNA of
VZV. Whenever you get the virus inside your system it will last about 5 10 days if it is not sever. The
symptoms before you know you might have chicken pox are high fever, headache, tiredness loss of
appetite. Other symptoms that are going to show on the skin of the patient are rashes all over the body,
blisters all over your body that have liquid inside them eventually turning them into scabs. The rash
usually shows on the face and chest later on spreading all over the body. About in a week all blisters
should have already been turned to scabs. Some rare complications with varicella include Rare

Essay about Drilling for Oil in The Gulf of Mexico
America has been dependant on oil since the 1800 s and the invention of modern machinery. From
skin care products to the gasoline in our cars and engines, petroleum is the basis of almost everything
we use for everyday life. Without oil the nation could not meet the energy demands we need to
survive. Continued exploration has been the topic of heated debate among supporters and opponents,
especially when it comes to offshore drilling. My goal here is to show the differing view points of
drilling for oil in the Gulf of Mexico and present a better understanding from a national perspective.
Drilling for our own offshore oil reserves can save the United States billions of dollars.

drilling. In March 2011 Hastings said, Let me state very clearly that these hearings will lead to action
by this committee, Hastings said. As chairman, I intend to introduce legislation to put the Gulf of
Mexico back to work. There are five compelling reasons why the United States should drill our own
oil, as found by a 2008 study group: jobs, revenue, economic growth, public demand, and energy
independence. Allowing drilling off the coasts of the U.S. would also create over 100,000 new jobs.
Over $1 trillion in royalties for federal and state governments could be collected. By using our own
reserves we will spend far less on imported oil and move closer to our energy independence.
According to a study done by the American Petroleum Institute, if offshore areas were opened to new
exploration and drilling, the national production is estimated to increase by 36% in 20 years. Federal
royalties are estimated to be approximately $4 trillion over the project life cycle; A hefty weight off
future tax payers if applied to the federal deficit.

Sacrifice In The Kite Runner
Sacrifice (and issues related to it) have been an inherent part of literature from the beginning. The
intense connection between destruction and creation raises questions about the human capability for
violence and love in equal measure and seemingly violates the natural human instinct for survival.
This has solidified its place as an object of fascination and scrutiny for generations. Sacrifice is not
simply a matter of giving up one s life or something equal to it for someone else; oftentimes,
psychological motivations behind sacrifice are very complex. However, in works such as The Kite
Runner, The Color Purple, Cyrano de Bergerac, Saving Private Ryan, The Nightingale and the Rose ,

Although he is a sensitive and bookish young boy, instances of a mean streak appear throughout the
book. He often takes advantage of Hassan s love for him and uses it to pressure him into committing
acts such as firing walnuts with his slingshot at the neighbor s one eyed German shepherd (4). In one
instance, he goes so far as to tease Hassan into admitting that he would eat dirt if he told him to, and to
confess that he finds teasing him to be something fascinating albeit in a sick way (54), though he
knows it to be cruel. His occasional antagonism towards Hassan stems in part from his jealousy and
his own feelings of inadequacy in regards to the love of his father. Hassan possesses an innate courage
and sense of justice and natural athletic abilities, all traits that Amir lacks and that Baba admires. The
fact that Amir does not stack up to Hassan in the eyes of their father becomes clear during a
conversation that he overhears between Baba and Rahim Khan. Not only does his father not
understand his inclination to spend his days reading and writing, he also looks down upon Amir s
inability to stand up both for his own self and for others and tendency to let Hassan fight his battles for

Film Analysis Of Slumdog Millionaire
Rising from the slum to become a millionaire is a one in a million chance. Yet Jamal, the main
character of Slumdog Millionaire, has raised his life from living in the slums to living the life a
millionaire. With their mother dying, Jamal and his brother started off in the slums basically living off
trash and garbage. From experience, Jamal was able to recall certain events and situations to help him
answer certain question on the Who wants to be a millionaire show. For example, Jamal was able to
answer the question, What does God Rama hold in his right hand? by simply remembering the time
after his mother was killed and him and his brother, Salim, were being chased. (Thesis) Not only did
the plot of the movie made the movie interesting and amazing to watch, but the acting, aging through
camera transitions, and overall goal of Jamal to find Latika throughout conflicts made Slumdog
Millionaire an amazing movie.
The acting of Slumdog Millionaire seemed to be integrated into the environment and the setting of the
slums. With the use of real children from the slums, the movie seems to be very real as the children
seem to already fit the descriptions of being part of the slums. Living in India, I was able to
understand the conditions and the lives of the people that lived around the slums. These people are
recognized by the majority of the public as being savages and uncivilized. The child actors that played
Jamal and Salim in the movie fit the description of being savages and uncivilized. For example, Jamal
jumped into the pile of poop from the outdoor bathroom to get to Amitabh Bachchan to get his
autograph. And as for Salim, Salim fit the description of being uncivilized due to the fact he had no
regards for other people s lives. A perfect example is when Salim was in charge of all the other
children in the child slave ring, Salim at one point took away a baby from another girl to give it to
Latika. In this scene, Latika didn t want to hold the baby, but had to hold the baby because Salim
threaten to drop it. Overall, the acting of Slumdog Millionaire was amazing because of many reasons.
Reasons including the fact that the actors that played Jamal, Salim, and Latika were real children from
the slums of India,

Negative Effects Of Urban Sprawl
roduction: Urban sprawl is the rapid expansion in urban areas and includes the migration of the
population shifting from rural areas to urban. According to research from the David Suzuki
foundation, 80% of the canadian population now lives in urban areas. There are many factors and
causes that contribute to why this urbanization and rapid change is occurring. Many of the reasons
include the desire to live in the city where there are better living conditions, more job and education
opportunities. Also, the lack of planning a city more efficiently is one of the most common reasons for
urban sprawl. The more the population grows, the more trouble it begins to have on the people and
environment. Urban sprawl comes with many direct and indirect negative effects. The overpopulation
of humans means the more use of vehicles, which causes issues like air and water pollution, which has
severe effects on the environment and human health. The overconsumption of water is also very
serious issue that is linked to the over population and growth in urban areas. The number of people
living in an area affects how much water is being consumed and how much of that water is being used
efficiently. Lastly, the use of more land due to the high demand of development, and that affecting the
wildlife and nature. Increased Pollution:
Urban sprawl causes the population in urban areas to become larger, however, this comes with a cost.

How Does Headgear Affect Soccer Players
Headgear Can Help Reduce Injuries in Soccer`1 4% 20% of all injuries in soccer are head injuries.
Concussion and head injuries are a big part of soccer, many younger players should have to wear
protective headgear while playing. Also, many of these head injuries that players sustained during
soccer can affect them for the rest of their life with things such as CTE. Even though many people don
t want to change the game of soccer, at a certain age players should have to wear headgear if they want
to head the ball because the brain damage kids can get from heading the ball can affect them for life,
and it would decrease the amount of concussions the sport has per year. Concussions have been a big
part of soccer for a while now, but have only come into attention within the last decade. Many players

important because many people are ill informed on the head injuries in soccer. With so many head

##bols And Symbolism In Lord Of The Flies, By William Golding
Symbols and symbolism are important to have in a story because it helps readers to focus on the
deeper meanings and themes under the main story. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a novel
that contains myriad symbolism. The novel is about a group of young boys who get stranded on an
island with no adults, and the boys need to collaborate to survive; however, as time goes on, the
collaborative efforts crumble and the boys begin to reveal their inner savage nature. To show the
progression of savagery in the boys, Golding uses several symbols the conch, the mask, and the beast
but none of these symbols are as important as the fire. The fire is the most important symbol because
it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and how it can prevail even through the
bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly no escape, the fire provides and
symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is rallying the boys in the assembly, his
main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke on the top of the mountain, [they] must make
a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has already been established as the leader, so his priority is
very powerful to the boys on the island, to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the
signal fire. This quote is also important because it establishes the symbol of fire to be a beacon of
hope and rescue for the boys, which is essential if they want to escape the island alive.

Behavior Change Theory Selected And Reason For Selecting
A. Topic Selection: Obesity B. Theory Behavior Change Theory Selected and Reason for Selecting
The Social Cognitive Theory is learning by observing and interacting with others. This works perfect
for my case study because children mimic what they see other children do. They also watch their older
influences and do as them. I will use this theory by setting up programs for the children along with
their families. This is targeting the obesity problem in 8 to 14 year old. I plan on implementing
programs for children s physical activity and healthy food choices. Compare and/or contrast two other
theories Theory #1 Social Network Theory The Social Theory Network has to do with people s
relationships to one another. Having a healthy social network would have a positive effect on the
people in it. My case study has to do with children who do not belong to social networks like older
individuals would. Their parents probably have a stable social network build through the years, so
their children are born into their networks until they are old enough to form their own. The Social
Network Theory and the Social Cognitive Theory both are interpersonal theories. They are influenced
by the people around them. Change occurs when behavior that is desired is reinforced. Theory #2
Transtheoretical Model The Transtheoretical Model lays out stages a person goes through for change.
In this case it is making positive changes to prevent childhood obesity. The stages are

Stare decisis and precedent are related because they both involve judges to use past decision in order

on prior ruling and adjust their rulings for more modern day use for a more equal fairness under the

punishment. However, just because they do promote fairness it doesn t mean that judges should only

Charley s Analysis
In contrast to the Thunder Bay area in Canada, Duluth obtained rail service a decade prior to Charley s
trek, which initiated a flurry of economic activity. However the Panic of 1873 and the ensuing
economic depression reversed many of the initial gains. Nevertheless, by the time Charley reached the
fledgling city, it stood at the threshold of another surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The
family s oral history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to

Recycling Essay
Recycling
During the early 1970s, as communities across the United States saw their landfills filling up, attention
turned to alternative methods of garbage disposal, such as incineration and recycling. While
incineration proved to be a thorny issue due to its toxic ash byproduct, recycling was embraced by
Americans as an effective way to offset rising garbage production rates.
Today, demand for recycled products is beginning to match supply, and the percentage of waste going
into landfills and incinerators is decreasing steadily. In 1970, when Americans produced 121 million
tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), three quarters went directly into landfills, one fifth was
incinerated, and less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many if not most of the products we use on a daily basis are made of recyclable materials, including
glass, aluminum, paper, steel, plastic, scrap tires and used oil. And the demand for goods made from
recycled products, despite a lot of ups and downs during the 1980s, has never been higher thanks to a
combination of well conceived industrial/commercial applications and much needed government
purchasing mandates. Indeed, the existence of markets for recyclables has contributed significantly to
recycling s success as a waste disposal alternative.
What makes recycling especially unique is its implementation by local people for local people. In
regards to MSW management, the federal government is relatively hands off, and state governments
have focused more of their attention on landfill and incineration options. As a result, local
communities have come together to initiate recycling efforts; the percolation of their enthusiasm has
led to the widespread acceptance and even encouragement of recycling at both the state and federal
levels.
With recovered materials demanding higher market prices and curbside collection and commercial
recovery on the rise, it is not unrealistic for Americans to expect to see nationwide recycling rates of
thirty five to fifty percent by the turn of

How Did The Basket Ball Change The History Of Basketball
Basketball (or Basket Ball then two words) was invented by Dr. James Naismith in December 1981.
He was an instructor at Christian Workers in Springfield Massachusetts. On March 11, 1892 students
and workers at the school played the first public game of basket ball. On March 22, 1983 Smith
College in Massachusetts becomes the first women s school to play basket ball. Men are not allowed
to watch the games. In 1894 the first moving the free throw line is moved from 20 feet to 15 feet. That
is the first change to the game. Then is 1895 the field goal value is changed from three points to two
and the free throw value is change from three points to one point. In 1896 the first known professional

The Pros And Cons Of Praising God
The word praise, from Old French and Latin, means to praise someone, to glorify and extol through
song or compliments and dedication. Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once. Praising the
Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and acceptance; everything
pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining complete acceptance of
every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you. Falling from the path He
created for you does not suggest that you cannot be forgiven of your sins and be accepted totally. A
thousand times I ve failed/ Still Your Mercy remains/ Should I stumble again/ Still I m caught in Your
Grace ( From the Inside Out by Hillsong UNITED). Praising the Lord is expecting a dry oatmeal
raisin cookie and receiving the entire package of mint Oreos your mother used to refuse to pay four
dollars for. It is sweet and your favorite and truly does not cost half as much as she accuses it of. It
does not require too much time or cause you to be tired when the day comes to a close. In fact,
worshipping is what revitalizes you for the week and helps you experience life with composure and a
focused mind. Praising the Lord is dedicating your life to a God who is real and who created the
heavens and the universe. Understanding that is one step closer to feeling the magnitude of His love
and His acceptance of all of your human flaws. This feeling is the final unleashing of the thousands

Picture Went Viral
In today s world, images have become a form of self expression. People use images to show how they
are feeling. From a selfie, at a family vacation, to their halloween evening, dressed as their favorite
superhero. None the less, images have also become a way for people to express their thoughts towards
other people and a form of approval. My Embarrassing Picture Went Viral by Caitline Seida touches
on how, she, a girl with polycystic ovarian syndrome and a failing thyroid gland posted a picture, of
her halloween evening with her friends, that soon became of fountain of hate comments that ranged
from What a waste of space to You should kill yourself (Seida 675). What Selfie Sticks Really Tell us
About Ourselves by Kate Murphy informs ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
You get a taste of it, and then you want it more and more. (Murphy 3) Both Seida and Murphy see
images as having both a negative and a positive association. To them images are a form of self
expression. You are capturing a memory into a still photo, which is the positive form of it. You are
creating memories that you SHOULD worship and love but the moment you go and post it on social
media seeking approval from other people, that s when it becomes a negative form of an image. What
I understood from both essay is that the moment you post an image on social media in search from
approval or even if your not, you are putting yourself at risk to cyber bully or let downs because at the
end of the day you are not the one who is deciding which type of people are commenting on your
photo. Honestly to me, my personal opinion, I sometimes fall into the same category as the people
who post pictures for approval. Whether it be on snapchat, instagram, or facebook, when I post
pictures I am constantly looking at the number of likes it has gotten or the number of views it has
received. For the most part I agree with these essays. I do agree that when you post pictures of social
media, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment because not everyone might like the
picture you are posting. But what I don t agree with is what Murphy says about what taking selfies tell
us about ourselves, I don t believe that taking selfies means that you have narcissistic, psychopathic
and Machiavellian personality. Overall I understand where both of these authors are coming from and
why they decided to write these two

Mass Incarceration Of Black Men In Prison
According to Alexander, so many black men are missing because they are under the criminal justice
system. In today s society, there has been a mass incarceration of black men due to the federal
program called the war on drugs. Because of this mass incarceration, a lot of black men are far from
home without being able to raise their children. Hundreds of thousands of black men are unable to be
good fathers for their children, not because of a lack of commitment or desire but because they are
warehoused in prisons, locked in cages (Alexander 738). African Americans were victims of slavery in
the past; however, in today s society the number of black men in prison is even bigger than the black
men enslaved in the past. More black men are imprisoned

  • 2. An Analysis Of The Trading Of Derivatives Kevin Cone and Madison Schaefer Professor Nutting Management 6 December 12, 2014 An Analysis of Trading in Derivatives 12 years ago, Warren Buffett warned that derivatives were financial weapons of mass destruction (Lenzner). 6 years after he made this statement, derivative traders helped induce the biggest financial crisis in America since the Great Depression. Derivatives are highly complex financial instruments that have fundamentally changed the way we perceive finance. Trading these derivatives has caused a financial revolution that has generated both a huge amount of potential, and an an equally huge amount of risk. Derivatives, in a nutshell, are highly complex financial instruments whose values are dependent on, calculated ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Because companies have the ability to swap an extensive variety of things, swaps are often overarchingly defined as an exchange in future cash flows (IP). One common type of swap is an interest rate swap. In this case, a company agrees to swap some or even all of their interest rate payments with another company. Interest rate swaps can occur because companies with different backgrounds and reputations will usually generate different credit ratings. These credit ratings often correspond to differing interest rates charged by lenders. For example, an established and reliable company may experience a high credit rating and receive a fixed interest rate, while a newer and more opaque company may experience lower credit ratings and receive a variable interest rate. These companies can opt to swap interest rate payments if each believes that the opposing party s interest rate setup will eventually turn out to be more advantageous in the long run. In effect, these companies are utilizing a comparative advantage in order to achieve their financial goals. Another example of a swap is a credit default swap (CDS). By selling CDS contracts, banks offer an extremely attractive option to people who are lending money to major companies. A credit default swap contract basically ensures a lender that a bank will financially cover all of his/her losses if his/her lent credit were to somehow default. The bank will do this in exchange for regular payments ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 4. The National Association Of Social Workers Code Of Ethics... Social work is a very unique profession. The other professions that are in the same realm as social work are very specialized, however, social workers must have a broad range of knowledge in order to help their clients. This is where multiple agencies come together to make sure professionals are properly trained and knowledgeable. In the field of social work, ethics and values are the key principles that provide the basis for the mission. It is these principles that guide the decisions and actions of everyone in the profession. Without a clear set of guiding principles, social work professionals could do more harm than good. This profession sees people during highly emotional times in their lives, and that can be extremely challenging. The National Association of Social Workers Code of Ethics not only sets the standards, but also guides a social worker through dealing with ethical dilemmas. As we evolve as a society, so have the guiding principles and values for the social work profession. The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) has written a code of ethics that serves many purposes. The main purpose is to identify the core ethics and values that provide the foundation for the profession. It details six basic principles for social workers to follow: service, social justice, dignity and worth, human relationships, integrity, and competence (National Association of Social Workers, 1999). The code acts as an ethical guide for students, and those professionals just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Aneurysm Essay Introduction Despite considerable advances in surgical treatment, the ruptured human abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is still associated with a mortality rate of 65 85% [1, 2] . A diameter is currently the only reliable determinant of the imminent rupture of an AAA and patients exceeding 5.5 cm generally undergo surgical or endovascular intervention [2, 3] . However, the outcome of rupture is poor with less than half of the patients being delivered to the hospital alive [1, 4] . It is well known that inflammation and proteolytic degradation markedly contributes to the formation and rupture of an AAA [5, 6] . During inflammation, the aortic wall is weakened by loss of smooth muscle cells (SMCs) and destruction of the extracellular ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Hence, another study described increased expression of ADAM 17, also known as TACE (TNF converting enzyme), in human AAA [18] . Especially in the transition zone, high levels of ADAM 17 and TNF have been detected , implementing a certain role in the development of AAA. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to conduct an expression analysis of ADAMs with proteolytic function [19] such as ADAMs 8, 9, 10, 12, 15 and 17, and their tissue inhibitors of metalloprotease (TIMP) 1 and TIMP 3 [20] in human AAA by quantitative PCR. The localisation of the corresponding ADAMs was determined by means of immunohistochemistry. Discussion The development of AAA is closely associated with alternation of connective tissue in the aortic wall, especially fragmentation of elastic fibres and collagen degradation through various proteolytic enzymes, particularly MMPs [8, 9, 22] . Some promising drugs inhibiting MMPs have already been shown to be successful in experimental models [23] . However, no positive results have been observed in clinical trials. This phenomenon may be based on the fact that MMPs are not the only proteinases able to degrade connective tissue. There is a plethora of proteolytic enzymes belonging to the family of metalloproteinases such as ADAMs with multiple biological roles including cell matrix interaction, zymogen activation (shedding) and cell adhesion. • 10. John Berger s Another Way of Telling Essay In John Berger s essay Another Way of Telling, Berger argues that photographs contain a third meaning. Berger claims that the third meaning is personal and relies almost completely on the individual viewer. As a result, no photograph can convey the same message to any two people and no two photographs can convey the same message to any one person. Here, the validity of Berger s assumption crumbles. All photographs communicate one absolute truth. Berger states, All subjectivity is treated as private (100). Yet, claiming that anything subjective within a photograph, its past and future, is personal only supports an absolute truth. The truth, however, is beyond the viewer s conscious interpretation and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Berger claims that the light and the weather are taken from their setting and the photograph becomes ambiguous. Nothing is ambiguous about the actual instant photographed. The light and weather captured by the camera were the same light and weather as the instant of the photograph. Berger does not even attempt to apply a meaning to a landscape in his essay. Berger excludes landscapes because they are not ambiguous. There is nothing to dispute about the lighting or weather of a landscape, but the photograph must still carry a meaning. The reason Berger fails to apply meaning to landscapes is that he is unable to draw upon his own life experiences and psychology to create a mythical truth, or a personal truth. The truth is not personal; it is universal and singular, thus escaping Berger s imagination. If the photograph were to be replaced back into its surrounding time, fixing the continuity, would the meaning differ? Would Berger now be able to invent an ambiguous meaning for the photograph? Nothing from Berger s personal past could influence the landscape captured within the photograph; thus Berger is unable to assign meaning. When Berger is unable to assign meaning, the photograph must be clear and lucid, not ambiguous. The singular truth behind the photograph has not allowed Berger any room for a personal reading. IDC4U 24 April, 2015 Purpose: In this experiment, the molar volume ( the volume occupied by one mole of a gas) of hydrogen gas at standard temperature and pressure is measured. According to Avogadro s Law, at the same temperature and pressure, equal volumes of gases contain the same number of molecules. Therefore the volume of any given gas must be proportional to the number of moles of molecules present when the temperature and pressure are constant. The reaction used to produce hydrogen is : Mg(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MgCl2(aq) + H2(g). The reaction is carried out with excess hydrochloric acid, therefore the volume of hydrogen gas produced would depend on ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a result, the calculated volume of hydrogen gas at STP and the molar volume would also be too high as a result of this error because the calculation of the volume of hydrogen gas at STP and the molar volume depends on the experimental results of the measured volume of hydrogen gas. Therefore, when the measured volume of hydrogen gas at STP becomes too high, the calculated volume of hydrogen and the molar volume would also be too high. 8. A student noticed that the magnesium ribbon appeared to be oxidized the metal surface was black and dull rather than silver and shiny. What effect would this error have on the measured volume of hydrogen gas? Would the calculated molar volume of hydrogen gas be too high or too low as a result of this error? Explain. The black and dull surface caused by oxidation would form MgO. When MgO react with HCl, it would not produce hydrogen gas. Therefore the reaction of Mg and MgO would produce less gas than the reaction of only Mg. Abstract Samuel Huntington s The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order defines eight major civilizations on the basis of religion. This division of global powers can be used to prove that the Western civilization will never completely dominate the global media. While Western thought tends to lead to a more representative form of government, and consequently a more libertarian or social responsibility based media, the other belief systems of the global powers tend to lead to more authoritarian government and media formats. This difference creates constant conflict between the global powers, thus disabling any one civilization from subjugating the others. Issue Paper In The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of ... The African continent will only be dealt with in the context of Islam, as traditional African religious are too variant and do not usually fit with one of the four theories of the press. The Western media is characterized by a Judeo Christian belief system and a libertarian or social responsibility theory of the press. Typically it is expected that these two sets of ideas will keep their distance from one another, thereby providing as little influence upon each other as possible. This is not true with most of the other world s civilizations/religions. In most other civilizations, the government and the media have close ties. How ever true this might be, it is human nature to feel fear, and more importantly fear of the unknown. Often fear leads to mistrust, which can finish a negotiation before it has even begun. IN today s increasingly globalised world, being culturally prepared and culturally aware allows negations to at least commence smoothly and efficiently. Globalisation has brought everyone on earth closer together, we can be chatting to someone in Argentine, and emailing someone in Shanghai. Organisations have tapped into the global work force and cross cultural negotiation is by product of this. How ever when negotiating across culture, negotiators must always remember that the cross cultural differences are not the issue up for debate, and through many social cues we can see how different cultures and behaviours different to our own can insight fear, and fear of the unknown, nearly hijacking the negotiations. This is evident through many things, whether it is almost superficial concepts, such as language, gestures and eye contact. It is also evident through more profound explanations such as time orientation. Despite the overwhelming amount of literature asserting the major differences in cross cultural negotiation, there are many experts in the field who disagree. We contrast the pre discussed notions and can see that cross cultural differences are also a smokescreen for many negotiators to hide behind for many reasons. This contrast to the ... At one point abortion was illegal and now it is not, now parents do not even have to know their children are having abortions. If it is not bad then why hide it? Year Four During year four, I chose a careful forecast for Model B. The main reason for this was due to the high standard deviation in forecast demand. The on shore production facilities had a 100 percent utilization, which meant the demand for Model B would not increase immediately. Therefore, outsourced facilities had to be utilized, resulting in a big lead time. Furthermore, I needed to use the extra production facility that I had not used in the previous years. In this year, Model B saw a big amount of stockouts, therefore, there had to be a decrease in production of Model A to make room for Model B; this was not effective. Final Observations The simulation was challenging for many reasons. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

United States vs South Africa Healthcare AFRICA VS UNITED STATES In our world each country has a set of standards to follow in order to establish health care insurance for people in different communities. The state contributes about 40% of all the expenditures on health while the public health sector delivers 80% of the population. Many resources are concentrated in the private health sector. These resources see to the health needs of the remaining 20% of the population. Public health consumes around 11% of the government s total budget. Theses similarities are associated with rapidly rising cost and large, underserved populations. It is also important to recognize the significant differences between the United States and South Africa. South Africa is also less developed and has fewer resources than the US. South Africa has a large private sector that is balanced to absorb management technology pioneered in the United States. There is a move from a noncompetitive insurance environment to a competitive one because the competition was not by hospitals to provide the best and cheapest care, but rather among the insurers to get the healthiest patients. Consumer driven plans are central to the process because they are ideal for risk selecting the young and fit who have been driven to new plans. Healthy people could watch their account balances grow which leaves the truly sick behind in traditional plans. This particular type of competition is being used to attract the healthy and in turn lead to price increases because insurers have little incentive to control the prices medical providers are charged. It is the responsibility of the patients to worry about the cost and the patient does not have the same power as the insurance competitors do. • 21. The Beloved Country By Alan Paton Family in Cry, the Beloved Country One cannot run from hardships, for they occur every day, appear suddenly, and can quickly consume hope. Instead one must face these difficulties and overcome them. However, to rise above obstacles alone would only cause further misery and despair. The struggler s family should rally behind him to comfort and assist him in his time of need. In Cry, the Beloved Country, a 1948 contemporary novel, Alan Paton uses parallelism to emphasize the importance of family because when individuals encounter hardships they need support from others to help them. Primarily, tribal families encourage those who suffer with kind words and actions. Stephen Kumalo, a man filled with pain and suffering , speaks of the hope he receives from others when he says, There is my wife, and you, my friend, and these people who welcomed me, and the child who is so eager to be with us here in Ndotsheni so in my suffering I can believe (261). Paton uses the parallel structure polysyndeton to show how many people from one s family will go out of their way to lift one s spirits and renew one s faith in God. Cry, the Beloved Country shows readers that even in difficult times one can find family eager to provide solace to those in need. Whenever there comes trouble, one can always count on family to rekindle lost hope. Although family cannot entirely relieve one of misery, their presence can soothe the pain. When Kumalo hears of his sister s sickness and must leave ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A Research Study On Varicella RESEARCH PAPER GUIDELINES VARICELLA Hernan Ramirez Health Science Technology 3/4/2016 Varicella Varicella is a virus that is caused by Varicella Zoster Virus ( VZV ) or also known as chickenpox. Back in 1875, Steiner proved that the virus can only spread through body fluids from other people who have the Varicella. People often did not know the difference between chickenpox and smallpox until the late 90 s. Every year there are about 3.5 million cases of varicella, 9,000 hospitalization, and estimated about 100 150 deaths. In order to prevent that from happening you may want to get the vaccine that saves about 100 deaths from happening. Pathophysiology Varicella Zoster Virus is a DNA virus and has almost the exact same genes of herpesvirus group (www.cdc.gov). Which also makes the Varicella be part of the same family and strand of DNA of VZV. Whenever you get the virus inside your system it will last about 5 10 days if it is not sever. The symptoms before you know you might have chicken pox are high fever, headache, tiredness loss of appetite. Other symptoms that are going to show on the skin of the patient are rashes all over the body, blisters all over your body that have liquid inside them eventually turning them into scabs. Allowing drilling off the coasts of the U.S. would also create over 100,000 new jobs. Over $1 trillion in royalties for federal and state governments could be collected. Yet Jamal, the main character of Slumdog Millionaire, has raised his life from living in the slums to living the life a millionaire. With their mother dying, Jamal and his brother started off in the slums basically living off trash and garbage. From experience, Jamal was able to recall certain events and situations to help him answer certain question on the Who wants to be a millionaire show. For example, Jamal was able to answer the question, What does God Rama hold in his right hand? by simply remembering the time after his mother was killed and him and his brother, Salim, were being chased. (Thesis) Not only did the plot of the movie made the movie interesting and amazing to watch, but the acting, aging through camera transitions, and overall goal of Jamal to find Latika throughout conflicts made Slumdog Millionaire an amazing movie. The acting of Slumdog Millionaire seemed to be integrated into the environment and the setting of the slums. With the use of real children from the slums, the movie seems to be very real as the children seem to already fit the descriptions of being part of the slums. Living in India, I was able to understand the conditions and the lives of the people that lived around the slums. These people are recognized by the majority of the public as being savages and uncivilized. The child actors that played Jamal and Salim in the movie fit the description of being savages and uncivilized. For example, Jamal jumped into the pile of poop from the outdoor bathroom to get to Amitabh Bachchan to get his autograph. And as for Salim, Salim fit the description of being uncivilized due to the fact he had no regards for other people s lives. A perfect example is when Salim was in charge of all the other children in the child slave ring, Salim at one point took away a baby from another girl to give it to Latika. In this scene, Latika didn t want to hold the baby, but had to hold the baby because Salim threaten to drop it. Overall, the acting of Slumdog Millionaire was amazing because of many reasons. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding, is a novel that contains myriad symbolism. The novel is about a group of young boys who get stranded on an island with no adults, and the boys need to collaborate to survive; however, as time goes on, the collaborative efforts crumble and the boys begin to reveal their inner savage nature. To show the progression of savagery in the boys, Golding uses several symbols the conch, the mask, and the beast but none of these symbols are as important as the fire. The fire is the most important symbol because it emphasizes the importance of hope and rescue on the island, and how it can prevail even through the bos savage nature. On an island with no hope and seemingly no escape, the fire provides and symbolizes hope and rescue to escape the island. When Ralph is rallying the boys in the assembly, his main priority to the boys is that [they] must make smoke on the top of the mountain, [they] must make a fire (38). At this point in the story, Ralph has already been established as the leader, so his priority is very powerful to the boys on the island, to which they run to the mountain and attempt to create the signal fire. It remains in the package hidden in the kitchen. It s inside an empty jar on a topmost shelf. Harry had gone pale. His mother s memories were in this very house, just within his grasp. And now, he knew exactly where they were. Listen, I don t want to be in any part of this... None of this was supposed to happen... that was an accident... Harry was already dashing back to the cupboard. He hardly got any sleep that night. Thoughts of what this pensieve could possibly hold, kept him up. But why did Petunia have it? Harry ... • 39. Charley s Analysis In contrast to the Thunder Bay area in Canada, Duluth obtained rail service a decade prior to Charley s trek, which initiated a flurry of economic activity. However the Panic of 1873 and the ensuing economic depression reversed many of the initial gains. Nevertheless, by the time Charley reached the fledgling city, it stood at the threshold of another surge in population, industry, and wealth.14 The family s oral history speculates that Charley followed the St. Croix River south from Duluth to Chisago County.15 This is highly unlikely, since it required an approximately forty mile detour into Wisconsin to reach the source of the river. • 40. Recycling Essay Recycling During the early 1970s, as communities across the United States saw their landfills filling up, attention turned to alternative methods of garbage disposal, such as incineration and recycling. While incineration proved to be a thorny issue due to its toxic ash byproduct, recycling was embraced by Americans as an effective way to offset rising garbage production rates. Today, demand for recycled products is beginning to match supply, and the percentage of waste going into landfills and incinerators is decreasing steadily. In 1970, when Americans produced 121 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW), three quarters went directly into landfills, one fifth was incinerated, and less ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Many if not most of the products we use on a daily basis are made of recyclable materials, including glass, aluminum, paper, steel, plastic, scrap tires and used oil. And the demand for goods made from recycled products, despite a lot of ups and downs during the 1980s, has never been higher thanks to a combination of well conceived industrial/commercial applications and much needed government purchasing mandates. Indeed, the existence of markets for recyclables has contributed significantly to recycling s success as a waste disposal alternative. What makes recycling especially unique is its implementation by local people for local people. In regards to MSW management, the federal government is relatively hands off, and state governments have focused more of their attention on landfill and incineration options. As a result, local communities have come together to initiate recycling efforts; the percolation of their enthusiasm has led to the widespread acceptance and even encouragement of recycling at both the state and federal levels. With recovered materials demanding higher market prices and curbside collection and commercial recovery on the rise, it is not unrealistic for Americans to expect to see nationwide recycling rates of thirty five to fifty percent by the turn of ... • 42. The Pros And Cons Of Praising God The word praise, from Old French and Latin, means to praise someone, to glorify and extol through song or compliments and dedication. Praising the Lord is an ocean of feelings at once. Praising the Lord is expecting a song and acquiring a torrential downpour of adoration and acceptance; everything pales in comparison. Praising the Lord is expecting disdain and attaining complete acceptance of every element of you. It is finally realizing how flawless He made you. Falling from the path He created for you does not suggest that you cannot be forgiven of your sins and be accepted totally. A thousand times I ve failed/ Still Your Mercy remains/ Should I stumble again/ Still I m caught in Your Grace ( From the Inside Out by Hillsong UNITED). Praising the Lord is expecting a dry oatmeal raisin cookie and receiving the entire package of mint Oreos your mother used to refuse to pay four dollars for. It is sweet and your favorite and truly does not cost half as much as she accuses it of. It does not require too much time or cause you to be tired when the day comes to a close. In fact, worshipping is what revitalizes you for the week and helps you experience life with composure and a focused mind. Praising the Lord is dedicating your life to a God who is real and who created the heavens and the universe. (Murphy 3) Both Seida and Murphy see images as having both a negative and a positive association. To them images are a form of self expression. You are capturing a memory into a still photo, which is the positive form of it. You are creating memories that you SHOULD worship and love but the moment you go and post it on social media seeking approval from other people, that s when it becomes a negative form of an image. What I understood from both essay is that the moment you post an image on social media in search from approval or even if your not, you are putting yourself at risk to cyber bully or let downs because at the end of the day you are not the one who is deciding which type of people are commenting on your photo. Honestly to me, my personal opinion, I sometimes fall into the same category as the people who post pictures for approval. Whether it be on snapchat, instagram, or facebook, when I post pictures I am constantly looking at the number of likes it has gotten or the number of views it has received. For the most part I agree with these essays. I do agree that when you post pictures of social media, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment because not everyone might like the picture you are posting. But what I don t agree with is what Murphy says about what taking selfies tell us about ourselves, I don t believe that taking selfies means that you have narcissistic, psychopathic and Machiavellian personality.
