The Role of Railroad Companies, Farmers, and Cowboys in...
The 1880s proved to be a time of change for America. High unemployment rates and low
wages in many cities forced many to look to new opportunities in cities and elsewhere.
This included the newly expanded west. In the 1880s Kansas had three dominating
groups railroad companies, farmers, and cowboys. All three dealt with individual
triumphs and struggles when developing the West and specifically Kansas in the later
part of the 19th century. Railroads spent most of the 1880s concerned with previous
legislation, farmersworried about land allotment and surviving on the Plains. Cowboys
also worried about land allotment and surviving. The worries of the last two created
some tension between them but in the end survival of one depended on the... Show more

1862 was an important year in the world of the Kansas railroads. First, the Homestead
Act was passed giving 160 acres of federal land to any citizen or person intending to be
one. The condition was that they had to remain on the land for a minimum of five
years. Anyone that stayed on this land for that period of time would become a citizen
automatically. The land came from the railroads in an effort to dispose of substantial
land holdings to settlers. (Evans 7) This law was particularly important to people in all
parts of the Midwest. One reason is that it allowed unemployed northern workers a
chance to start over somewhere new, with a new job, and hopefully make a good living
for themselves and their families. The second reason wasthat many hoped that it would
ultimately raise the wages of those people who did have jobs in the northern factories.
(White 142)
The Homestead Act was not the only expansion legislation passed in 1862. That year
also saw the passage of the Pacific Railroad Act which provided land for the
PacificRailroad. It doubled federal land grants to ten sections per mile within 20 miles
on each side of the tracks. And it liberalized the term mineral rights by forfeiting all iron
and coal deposits on the grant lands to the railroad companies. (Howard 170) It also
offered subsidy to other efforts at building trunk line railroads. According to

Introduction
The purpose of this assignment is to discuss the strategies that Xerox should implement
to achieve legal compliance in the hiring process as it relates to the acquisition on
feminine human resources. Additionally, discriminationin the workplace will be
evaluated and discussed.
Discuss how human resource professionals can ensure that top organizational leaders
encourage managers and employees to follow laws and guidelines.
Often Human Resources (HR) wants only to educate. By providing corporate leadership
with a working knowledge of how to abiding by the federal laws will only cause them to

The Civil Rights Act of 1964 has helped in the transition to bring it to a state of
equilibrium. However this created a significant amount of hostility in the workplace.
The friends of the white males who were passed over for position began to despise the
minority or woman who was hired. The little things that could legally be done in
retaliation were done. The weapons used to discourage the instigators of change were
things like additional work forcing the new employee to work nights and weekends or
being looked over for public praise. Over time, the petty knee jerk reactions began to
dissipate. However the distain for the invaders had not gone away it has only changed it
outward appearance. The use of education verses experience has created a legal loophole
allowing companies to hire who they want and reject other qualified employee who
simply have not been given the opportunity to prove themselves.
In an effort to dissolve public perceptions of discrimination token employees have been
hired and put in positions of high visibility. As long as the person conforms to the
public image which has been ingrained on the USA s public psyche as being the correct
way of being, they are kept on. If they step out of line they, publicly disgraced and
removed.
On an individual basis, white men over the last 15 year have been given an unfair
disadvantage. However looking at it from a macro view, white men are still
Earl Warren s Supreme Court Rulings
Earl Warren s Supreme Court rulings helped various rights for many Americans, most
of which are still used and enforced today. The Warren s Court ruling in Brown v.
Board of Education ruled that segregation in public schools as unconstitutional. It s
rulings on Mapp v. Ohio ended up resulting in the exclusionary rule. The rule made any
evidence obtained illegally as inadmissible in court. In Reynold s v. Sims required that
legislative districts across states be made as equal as possible in population. Miranda v.
Arizona resulted that your rights be read to you upon arrest or questioning. Each of these
court cases helped to enforce and enhance the rights of many Americans. The case known
as Brown v. Board of Educationwas actually the name that was given to five separate
cases that were heard by the U.S. Supreme Court (History Brown v. Board of
Education Re enactment). The cases were all combined because each case sought out
desegregation as the remedy for grossly inadequate conditions in segregated black
schools (Brown v. Board of Education). When meeting to decide the case, the Justices
were divided over the issues that were raised. They were unable to come to a
conclusion by June 1953 the end of the Courts 1952 1953 term. The Justices decided to
rehear the case again in December. During that time, Chief Justice Fred Vinson died and
was replaced by Earl Warren. When the case was reheard in December 1953, Chief
Justice Earl Warren was able to bring all the

African art and the politics of identity in the twenty first century.
Identity is never an a priori, nor a finished product; it is only ever the problematic process
of access to an image of totality H. Bhahba (1994:50)
Introduction.
The second half of the twentieth century saw the liberation of the African continent from
colonial rule, a time that occasioned the rise of new pride in and new searches for
definitions of identities released from the colonial confines. In the twentieth century the
politics of identity became salient in discourses, political, social, and cultural, on Africa.
The idea of the diaspora was central to new conceptions on African art, often leading to
the exclusion of artist residing in Africa in preference of those living in the nomadic
condition. The forefront of Africa in modernity was thus not seen as residing in Africa
itself but in those that found themselves in the realms of the hegemonic modernity of the
West. Nevertheless independence from colonial rule saw a surge in self defining
nationalisms based on an ideal form of African nation and identity. Ways of being and
producing African art were prescribed to artists, though this does not mean that individual
agency was lost. As Atkinson states on post Apartheid South Africa: it is clear that the
stakes have shifted, and the country s reintegration into international art , culture, and
politics, has
How Much Is It Costing You to Breath Comfortably
How Much Is It Costing You to Breath Comfortably
It is hard to imagine how life would be without air conditioners. Before these electronic
devices came, people used to keep large masses of ice to cool the place. When air
conditioners were invented, their capacity was measured depending relative to the
amount of ice melted in a day. This is where the word a ton of cooling came to be. A
small home air conditioner is able to deliver two tons of cooling with a larger one about
five tons. A ton is expressed as 12,000 BTUs per hour (British Thermal Units). A good air
conditioner is able to maintain the indoor environment in the desired temperature.
Unlike many other electrical devices, a conditioner needs several aspects to run properly.

Others have dealership agreements with service firms who repair certain models. It is
recommended that you use authorised professional technicians if any around your area.
If none, it would be prudent that you research for the best qualified technical team for
your repairs. Visit manufacture and air conditioning installer websites and seek for good
deals by contacting them. Most of them offer free quotes for both new installation and
repairs.
Major repair areas
1.Filters
Every air conditioner has a grill like or shiny paper compartment upstream an
evaporator that filters dirt particles from getting to the cooling unit. With time, filters
are filled with dirt particles reducing airflow to the main system. This forces the
conditioner to work harder. In addition, a dirty filter is also a source of air pollution
into your house. You could have filters changed or cleaned every six months or less
depending on quality of outdoor area.
2.Air ducts
Air ducts transfer conditioned air across the building. When the ducts start leaking, you
stand to lose up to fifty percent of your energy. This is because the system tries to
compensate for the loss. Where air ducts pass to the outside, you need to have them well
insulated. A professional contractor can help free up to a half a ton of your conditioner s
capacity by sealing the ducts.
3.Condensing unit
This is the outside compartment of the air conditioner. You need
Christianity In The 3rd Century
The Late Antiquity period marked the beginning of the primacy of Christianity in Europe
and the Mediterranean, a primacy that has shaped the cultures of modern day in
fundamental ways. Following the Roman Crisis in the 3rd century, the nature of the
relationship between The Roman State and The Church (or rather, Churches, perhaps)
underwent a profound evolution, eventually resulting in the end of Paganism, Roman
power, and the period of Antiquity itself. Some of the most significant aspects of the
relationship between Church and State in the fourth to sixth centuries AD were: the
Tetrarchy, Constantine s conversion, the rise of Constantinople and the fall of the
Western Empire, and the Codex of laws compiled by Theodosius cementing Nicene
Christianityas the official religion of the State. The relationship between Church and State
during this time provided the cocoon for this metamorphosis of history, and persecution
in general was the silk that held it together. The development of this new relationship
took centuries and many tears, but would have impacts for millennia.
In the mid 3rd century the Roman Empire had all but fallen. Diocletian acted to save the
corpulent empire by delegating, and these acts held the empire together for another
century or more. However, the actions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the first Christian Emperor came a legitimacy that had been previously denied to
Christians. Martyrdom was the most powerful outlet for influence they had before
Constantine . Once the emperor stopped demanding that Christians sacrifice the
foundation was set for full acceptance of Christian rights. The persecutions and counter
persecutions taking place over the next decades and centuries served the purpose of
refining the relationship between Church and State, but it can be said that the
relationship between monarchs and bishops for the next thousand years truly began with

What Is The Theme Of Cinderella
people just think of books as a form of entertainment, but humans can actually learn
from them. For example: Grimm s version of Cinderella, published in 1812, was a
favorite tale among children in Germany. Disney s reproduction of Cinderella, published
in 1950, was a popular movie among kids in America. Italys translation of Cinderella,
published in 1885, was favored story among families in Italy. In each version of
Cinderella, Grimm, Disney, and Italy one greater theme stands out among all others.
In the Grimm story of Cinderella , there is one vital theme: hate and contempt will get
you nowhere in life, when it is simple to be kind. Furthermore, here is some background
information before the support to this theme. The king announced a festival for his prince
to meet a bride, Cinderella s step mom says to her that she is not coming, she goes to
the tree at her mother s grave and asks the dove there for the same beautiful dress every
night, she meets the prince at the ball, loses her slipper, prince uses the slipper to find
Cinderella, and she tries it on and gets engaged to the prince. In addition to the
background information, the support to the theme is when at Cinderella s wedding, her
step sisters get their eyes pecked out, of because of how mean they are to Cinderella(7).
Now, this story was written in Germany in 1812. Correspondingly, the theme was
important to kids during that time in Germany because they didn t have any type of
entertainment during
Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night By Dylan Thomas
Written by Dylan Thomas, the poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night was
published in 1951, two years before his early death at age 39. Referred to as a
villanelle, this poem contains five three lined stanzas and one four lined stanza. In the
first stanza, the unrevealed speaker is telling an unknown person not to give into death
peacefully, but to fight against it as he or she expresses, rage, rage against the dying of
the light (line 3). In this first stanza, Thomas uses a metaphor to compare dying of the
light to death. In the next stanza, the speaker acknowledges that wise men near death
know that their death is inevitable because their words had forked no lightning, but still
encourages them not to give into death (4 5).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To illustrate, anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase, is identified through
the repeated use of do not go gentle into that good night (1,6,12,18). Similarly, Thomas
also repeats the phrase Rage, rage against the dying of the light to create the same effect
(3,9,15,19). Given that the poem is a villanelle, by definition, it follows a pattern in
which the first and third lines are alternated at the end of the stanzas and both repeated at
the end of the last stanza. By way of repetition, Thomas seems to be emphasizing the
message the lines express, which is to not die peacefully but to fight against death,
showing an unwillingness to give up. The repetition and strict structure by which the
poem follows also helps the poem flow and sound pleasing to the ears (euphony).
Furthermore, Thomas repeats this message, but with each stanza he applies it to a new
subject: wise men...good men...wild men...grave men...my father (4,7,10,13,16).
Interestingly, by changing the subject, Thomas gives the impression that the message is
meant for all people, no matter what they are dealing with or who they may be. In
addition, Thomas uses exact rhyme to help with flow and unity between the stanzas. For
example, the two repeated phrases rhyme with night and light, while the middle lines of
the tercets rhyme with day and they (1 3,5 6,9,12,15,18 19). By staying true to the strict
villanelle form, the five three lined stanzas follow an
How Did Shakespeare Contribute To Romeo And Juliet
Shakespeare Biography Wherefore art thou Romeo, are words that most of
inhabitants on Earth knows. Many would mistake as if Juliet, the female lead, was
awaiting his arrival, asking where Romeo is. However, wherefore, actually defines as
why, to be why are you Romeo? A deeper understanding of this line would be Juliet
desiring Romeo to be another person, specifically someone who s family isn t a rival to
Juliet s. A reason being is to freely express her feelings to Romeo. It s brilliant how the
author portrays vivid emotion into his writing, and that man is no other than William
Shakespeare. As a matter of fact, Shakespeare is known to be one of the greatest writers.
But, how else could we see this genius as no other than a simple playwright? On April
26, 1564 Shakespeare was born during the Victorian era and under a glove maker and
a tradesman. Since time has passed, the lifestyle has changed like hygiene. An example
of hygiene from the past was the people not bathing because they believed that it was
filthy and would let diseases into their bodies. Additionally, the lifestyle was so horrible
that the life expectancy was 45 for those who didn t work hard labor. Luckily,
Shakespeare lived to attend school around the age of seven, although he... Show more

Throughout his time, he has written a total of 884,647 words and 118,406 lines. Not to
mention, Shakespeare was not only a poet, but he invented some words like amazement,
bedroom, champion, dawn, eyeball, and fashionable. William Shakespeare died in his
birth town on 1616, but his work still lives on. Centuries later after his time,
Shakespeare is still active in our daily lives through his talent. William Shakespeare is
truly as he stated, Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness,
and some have greatness thrust upon
Curleys Wife Analysis
Curly s Wife
Curlys Wife is a very powerful and yet powerless character within the novel Of Mice
and Men as Steinbeck uses her to reflect the prejudice against women in the 1930s since
they had very little rights. Just from her title Curlys Wife she has no actual name, this
shows that she is just Curlys property and powerless in the sense that she hasn t got her
own individual identity, only an identity through her husband, also she doesn t have
enough power to be called a woman instead she is discriminated against and is called
derogatory terms such as a tart when Slim first speaks of her to George by saying I
think Curly married a tart showing no respect for her

empathy for her character
To conclude, Steinbeck uses Curlys Wife to get the readers awareness of how much
women were discriminated against in the 1930s and how lonely and isolated she was
because of her being a female. She wasn t seen as her own individual person but as a
strand of someone else; her husband Curly. She used her best quality: her beauty to
get the attention of the other guys on the ranch because she doesn t like her husband

rule of staying away from Lennie because of her desire to be noticed and be listened to

Auditory System Essay
The world contains all kinds of energy that translates into information about what we see,
hear, smell, touch and taste. A sensory system is a part of the nervous system responsible
for processing specific sensory information. The components of a sensory system include
sensory receptors, neural pathways, and parts of the brain involved in sensory perception.
To begin, energy from the environment stimulates the receptor cells in whichever sense
organ is being used. If this information were auditory, the ear would convert sound waves
in the air into electrical impulses that would further be interpreted by the brain as sound.
A sound wave first enters the pinna, the fleshy part of the ear on the outside of the body.
It then travels through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The movements of the membranes then send the vibrations down the scala tympani.
A structure called the Organ of Corti, which is situated on the basilar membrane,
becomes stimulated as the membrane vibrates and sends nerve impulses to the brain.
Within the Organ of Corti are a group of specialized cells called hair cells, which are
covered by the tectorial membrane. As the basilar membrane vibrates, the hair cells
are bents and push up against the tectorial membrane. This causes the hair cells to fire
and send nerve impulses to the auditory cortex on each of the brains hemispheres
through the cochlear nerve. How we determine pitch can be explained with two
different theories. The Place Theory states that the entire basilar membrane does not
vibrate at once so different parts of the basilar membrane respond to different
frequencies of sound. Lower frequency sounds vibrate the basilar membrane near the
apex of the cochlea while higher frequency sounds produce vibrations closer to the
base. The Frequency Theory states that the frequency of firing matches the frequency
of the sound wave. Hearing loss can occur for a number of reasons. Damage to the
eardrum due to age and prolonged exposure to loud noise may cause the hairs or nerve
cells in the cochlea to wear out and become less effective. A buildup of earwax can
block the ear canal and prevent of sound waves from entering the eardrum. Otosclerosis,
a genetic form of hearing loss in which the stapes is fixed

I believe that all people are meant to do something special and that everyone has a
talent or a knack for something where they can be extraordinary. The key is to find it
and embrace it. Its a sad thing to see so many people muddle through their lives just
living to work, putting in their time and doing just enough to get by and making just
enough to survive. So many people go through life and never find that one thing that
moves them, that inspires them and gives meaning to their career. Other times I see
people that do have a passion for something but are just to afraid to go after it. They
are afraid to fail or that they won t be able to support themselves if they follow their
dreams. That fear hangs over them for a long time before they finally let their dream be
extinguished and then just live a life of regret. Most people never regret the risks they
take in life, but they often regret the risks they

The Ethical And Legal Dilemmas That Ms. Burrows
Dissecting an Ethical Case Study Section #1 The ethical and legal dilemmas that Ms.
Burrows admitted to in the stipulation and final agency order were: billing insurance
after taking payment for services, inadequate documentation and record keeping, and
failure to have a signed mandatory disclosure (Stipulation Case No. 2013 938). When
making reports to third parties such as insurance providers, counselors are required to be
truthful and forthcoming (American Counseling Association, 2014). Taking cash
payments and then billing an insurance company is not only untruthful, it is intentional
fraud. Another fraudulent action committed by Ms. Burrows was billing under the
depression codes but not having treatment plan connected to depression. Miscoding for
the purposes of billing is insurance fraud (Lane, 2014). Section #2 The six basic moral
principles: autonomy, non maleficense, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity
(Corey, 2015). This case suffered from non maleficense because Ms. Burrows was
saying she was providing treatment for depression without doing so, thereby causing
potential harm to her client. The client was denied autonomy by violation of her rights
to receive proper treatment that she paid for. Mr. Burrows violated client s justice by
not treating her fairly and denied her the mandatory disclosure documentation, which is
also an issue of fidelity. The client s fidelity was broken when Ms. Burrows failed to
record proper progress notes, thereby
The Final Cultural Factor Involved With Education Essay
The final cultural factor involved with education in Japan is the essential part of
education in Japan that involves the strengthening of the moral values of students.
Passing down important moral values to children is the job of the school and parents
(Whitburn, 1995), and one notable value that is portrayed in every Japanese schoolis the
ability to cooperate with others well and efficiently. With this idea of a group identity,
there is less of an emphasis on the individual, but more on the whole, which, according
to Whitburn (1995), also helps contribute to order and discipline not only in society but
also in the classroom. Again, the dependence on each other is included in schools, and
since there is so much dependence on each other, the need for good cooperation
increases. Along with this Japanese concept of a group identity lies many expectations
held for the students in many of the school rules common to most, if not all, schools in
Japan. According to Koda (personal interview, October 16, 2016), an exchange student
from Japan, students are expected to wear their hair and required uniforms in certain
ways and not to violate certain rules; many schools also require students to join clubs, or
extracurricular activities, which are fun ways to get along well with other students and
foster good relationships with certain faculty members. While Japan s overall education
system seems to be simple and effective, it is not without its flaws, and people not used to
The Importance Of Myths
Myth are traditional stories and are usually concerning people in history or the
explanation of natural phenomenon s. Legends are also stories and are popularly
regarded to be about historical figures. Legends can also be stories that over time have
been exaggerated. Us as humans have believed in these myths and over timethey have
become a major part in our lives. Some people believe that they have been a key
influence in our religions as well. Because of this people have come to question whether
myths and legends are just superstitions from a former time and should be forgotten or
whether they are an important part of our culture and heritage. There are many types of
myths; natural myths, modern myths and creation myths. They all make up who we are.
Paragraph 1 draft
Myths and legends help us understand historical societies. Natural myths and legends
have helped historians understand the past. Take the Northern Lights for example. The
traditional name for the northern lights, Aurora Borealis originated from the Greek
words that mean sunrise (Aurora) and wind (Borealis). These words tell us what the
Greeks thought was happening and how it was caused. From these words we can infer
that they thought it was some sort of wind and it interacted with the sunrise.
It also shows us the importance of imagination and creativity and that these ancient
societies used these as well. It also shows us the importance of imagination and creativity
and that these ancient societies used
Weaknesses Of Coke
SWOT Analysis
SWOT Analysis is a useful technique for understanding a company s strengths (S),
weakness (W), opportunities (O) and threats (T). Environmental factors internal to the
firm usually can be classified as strengths or weakness, and those external to the firm can
be classified as opportunities or threats. SWOT analysis can help firm uncover
opportunities that are well placed to exploit. And by understanding the weaknesses of the
business, firm can manage and eliminate threats that would otherwise catch it unawares.
Furthermore, firm can start to craft a strategy that helps it distinguish itself from the
competitors, so that the firm can compete successfully in the market.

Threats include changing customer needs, changes in government regulations and
changes in economics of the country.
Coca Cola is getting indirect competition such as Starbucks and Dunkin Brands Group
which do not compete directly with Coca Cola. These businesses do place a dent in the
company s market share. These chains offer a healthy competition to Coca Cola s
carbonated drinks. They might not be a big competition for Coke, but they do give a
dent to its beverage market.
There are changes in consumer preference in the society. Societies tend to be healthier;
therefore, they focus on drinking health beverages. People are changing their attitudes
and keep their mind on consuming health drinks in order to avoid diseases like obesity
and diabetes. Many companies have tried to invent a great variety of innovative drinks as
it s a trend of consuming healthy drink nowadays.
Water scarcity is a major threat to Coca Cola Company. When the water scarcity is on
the rise, with the climate changing and regions of various countries facing scarcity of
water, sooner someone might raise fingers on beverage companies. If the water is
limited, Coca Cola can experience a major downfall in their revenue and capacity of

The Importance Of Childhood In Medieval Art
Childhood is an important part of the life of an individual. This is because childhood
determines to a greater extent the behavior and personality of an individual in adulthood
based on the environment they are brought up. Ideally, every individual has some
childhood memories of pictures in stacks of albums in the house. This demonstrates the
importance of childhood in the development of an individual. However, ancient artists do
not share these sentiments, as they did not portray the importance of childhood in early
paintings and pictures. Aries (1996) pointed out Medieval art did until about the twelfth
century did not know childhood or did not attempt to portray it (p.33, which
demonstrates that ancient artists did not view or assumed... Show more content on

The thirteenth century demonstrated or represented childhood in a concept closer to the
current representation. Childhood representation changed in the thirteenth century as art
embodied aspects of childhood compared to miniature small scale representation. Ideally,
the evolution towards a realistic and sentimental representation of childhood begins with
the childhood of Jesus. The representation of Jesus on His mother s arms led to family
representations that demonstrated childhood characteristics. However, a more realistic
and sentimental childhood representation revolved around Jesus until the fourteenth
century when the
Italian art helped to develop and spread an ideal childhood representation.
The gothic period produced yet another type of childhood representation. This period
saw the representation of a naked child. The previous representation seldom represented
a naked child, except in cases of innocence and death. The allegory of death and soul
introduced child nudity in the medieval period. Nonetheless, the concept of Holy
Childhood continued to develop in both variety and scope from the thirteenth century
onwards. The progress of Holy Childhood showed the progress of the idea of childhood
that was lacking in the previous centuries.
Hunter Gatherer Diet Essay
Purpose Statement My essay, The Immediate Effect Diet has on Your Microbiome,
will be presented to my classmates and instructor Jaime Astacio. It is a summary and
response to Tim Spector s article, What a Hunter Gatherer Diet does to the Body in
Just Three Days. This will be a class discussion and I would greatly appreciate
constructive feedback from my peers. The topic explores health and well being, which
is very relevant today due visible social standards. Tim s editorial takes place in
Tanzania, where there is a vast variety of plant and animal species the Hadza tribe
survive on. Although very geographically different from where we call home, the piece
suggests that reconnecting with nature might just be what we all need.... Show more

High diversity is associated with a low risk of obesity and many diseases. He and a
colleague wanted to do an experiment to see if intestinal health could improve in just
a few days, so they set off to Tanzania to hunt and gather with the Hadza tribe. The
Hadza are one of the last groups of hunter gatherers in Africa Sparks 2 and they have a
very diverse microbiome. During the study, they foraged for baobab fruit and
kongorobi berries, which are high in fiber and vitamin C. They also stalked and killed
porcupines and hyrax which they cooked over a fire. Meat, carcass, and organs were
eaten, nothing of nutritional value is wasted. They dug tubers from the ground and
collected honey from a comb on a tree branch. There were many perils during the trip.
Aside from bee stings and sharp porcupine needles, they had to be wary of snakes and
scorpions. The meals they dined on may not have been the tastiest, but they were packed
with vitamins and antioxidants. Throughout the adventure, Tim was producing stool
samples that would be analyzed for microbe diversity when they returned home three
days later. What they found was shocking. The good news was my gut microbial
diversity increased 20%, including totally novel African microbes. The bad news was,
after just a few days, they returned to where they were before the trip. Their
Making An Abraham Lincoln Movie
Making an Abraham Lincoln movie can be very tricky and a difficult job. Everybody
knows the story of Abraham Lincoln and knows the persona that President Lincoln
can give out. Spielberg s, Ford s, and Griffith s Lincoln all did very notable work.
Griffith s Lincoln in Birth of a Nation was a worthy performance by Henabery. Ford s
Young Mr. Lincoln was known as one great over all film. The scenes in the film were
spot on and the Lincoln played by young Mr. Henry Fonda was the best in the business
in the 1940s. Abe Lincoln in Illinoiswas produce by a loser known director, John
Cromwell, but it was originally based on a play by Robert Sherwood. Abe Lincoln in
Illinois was nominated for two Oscars, one of them being for Best Actor. Birth of a
Nation, Young Mr. Lincoln, and Abe Lincoln in Illinois make a strong trio of Lincoln
films but none of the can surpass Lincoln. Mr. Smith goes to Washington is not a
Lincoln film but it resonates with two other Lincoln films, Lincoln and Birth of a
Nation. Lincoln turned Mr. Smith goes to Washington just as it turned Birth of a
Nation. The core of the Lincoln films is the story of how dirty some politicians can be.
Lincoln is also considered on of those dirty politicians in his way he went about
abolishing slavery. Remember in the film Lincoln he birdied Democrats to vote for the
14th amendment by securing them federal jobs. Although we have looked at some
important Lincoln films there are still some other movies that play
The Battle Of Nazi Dictator Adolf Hitler Essay
On February 27 of 2014, masked Russian troops without insignia infiltrated in south
Ukraine and captured strategic sites across Crimea, a rugged peninsula that strategically
juts in the Black Sea. Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July
2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international
consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions.
A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi
dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the
media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In
Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7,
2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova,
2014). This is a very grave accusation and, given that the USA and Russia collectively
hold 90% of all nuclear weapons, prudence is in order.
Therefore, in this essay I purpose to assess the validity of the claim by using the
Ladder of Inference, a reasoning method likened to a ladder as it is a step by step
process that helps us draw better conclusions from true facts and reality. (Mind Tools).
We can use this method in any of three ways; reflection (becoming aware of our own
thinking), advocacy (making our thinking visible to others), and inquiry (inquiry into
other s thinking). (Ross, n.d.) For this essay, I ll depend on
Substance Abuse In The Workplace Essay
Substance abuse is one of the largest growing problems in the world. In addition to the
growth and wide spread popularity of alcohol and recreational drug use, the
international drug trade and alcohol distribution garners tens of billions of dollars a year
in both legal and illegal revenue. This simply serves as an indicator for how common
drug and alcoholhas become on a global scale. Although there is a portion of the
worldwide population which uses substances in a moderated and controlled manner,
substance abuse is becoming a prolific problem and a concern of epidemic proportion.
One of the most significant issues is the increasingly common practice of drug and
alcohol abusein the workplace. Substance abuse in the workplace provides multiple
ethical concerns, both from the standpoint of the employee and management. Although
corporations, companies, and institutes normally have well defined policies guiding the
response procedures for suspected or known substance abuse, there are often deviations
from practiced interventions and misinterpreted reactions to the issue.
In the 21st century, drug use and substance abuse has become a leading problem in the
workplace environment and is providing administrative and management leadership
agencies with challenging ethical dilemmas. Aside from the safety and liability issues
drug use can cause for employers, businesses and organizations, there is a growing
ethical responsibility for leadership members to establish and apply
Discussion Of Kant s Unethic Theory Or Deontological Ethics
Deontology ( or Deontological Ethics) is the ethic theory that decided the morality of
one action based on the action s adherence to a rule or rules. It is described as duty from
the word deon from Greek (CVP, p.10). Deontology is also contrast from other ethic
theory, such as consequentialism or virtue ethics. It judges the rightness or wrongness of
actions themselves, as opposed to the rightness or wrongness of the consequences of
those actions (Consequentialism) or to the character and habits of the actor (Virtue Ethics
). In other words, the inside moral worth of actions is duties, aims and human beings, not
the consequences. In order to determine what right is its settlement with a moral
standard: right takes priority over good. For instance :... Show more content on

Kant s theory is considered deontological for numerous reasons. Starting off , Kant
states that if people want to act in the morally way, they have to act from duty, rather
than inclination. Inclination means do something for some ulterior motive. With
ulterior motive means its based upon wants ,desires and references with no moral
worth. In contrast, duty is considered have moral worth. When a person does
something because of duty, he or she does it because it is the right thing to do. It is
based on reason and rationality. Next Kant states that actions is are considered right or
wrong depends on the persons intentions. For example: a kid a uncle, A father who
planned to kill his son but shoving the son s head into the bathtub filled with water until
the kid drowns. The father was financially unstable and saw his son as a burden to him.
However, the kid accidentally slipped in the bathroom and drowned in the water and fell
into the bathtub and drowned to death. The father received the end result as he wanted
but in this circumstance the son was the one who slipped in. Still it is considered
immoral because the father had bad intensions from the beginning

the Lordship of Jesus Christ and has made Christ Head of the Church, which is his

Philosophy Is Completely Different From Psychology
Philosophy is one of the most interesting subject. Many people assume and confuse it
with psychology. Philosophy is completely different from psychology. Psychology is how
a person feels about a topic, while philosophy is how you ought to feel about the topic.
The purpose of philosophy is to understand an argument, not emotional, but logically.
Only by truly understanding an argument, one can improve his/her thinking. Within
philosophy, there are many ethical theories. Such theories include: the Divine
Command Theory, Hedonism, Desire Theory, Ethical Relativism, and much more. In
this term paper, I will discuss which theory I believe is the strongest and which theory
I believe is the weakest. Regardless, there is no perfect theory. Each theory is without
flaws. I believe act utilitarianism is the strongest ethical theory presented in class. Act
utilitarianism is when, according to Russ Shafer Landau, acts are right just because they
maximize the overall amount of well being in the world . On the other hand, actions are
wrong if they do not maximize the overall amount of well being in the world. Because
the main concept of utilitarianism is to improve the overall well being, that concept
determines which actions are considered right or wrong. Act utilitarianism is a part of a
family of theories that are similar to consequentialism and utilitarianism (neither act nor
rule utilitarianism). This family of theories are all similar in a way that the main idea is
to improve and
The Roman Army A War Machine
The Roman army was the most powerful war machine of its time and arguably many
others. It is this vast war machine that facilitated the Roman Empire and its creation. I
call the Roman army a war machine because of the meticulous organization the army
displayed, organization so thorough it mimics the individual cogs and gears in a
machine working in perfect unison to achieve a common goal. The roman army was
responsible for developing revolutionary fighting techniques which not only secured
Rome s position as the most powerful force in the world, but would influence the
fighting styles of other armies for hundreds of years. But a machine so intricate and
complex was not created in a day. It was through much trial and error and the test of
time that the Roman army became the world power that we remember it as. I call the
legions a world power because without the approval of the legions an emperor would be
powerless. History documents show many Generals who already had the approval of
their legions ascending to power, most notably Julius Caesar. So the Roman army was a
very prominent military and political influence. Although the Roman army did not
simply consist of soldiers and future politicians, it also included engineers. These
engineers were responsible for the building of the roads that carried soldiers to and from
battle, along with numerous military technologies that would influence the future of
warfare. The Roman army s history and the creation of new war

He has only one leg and usually has his parrot, Captain Flint, who always says Pieces

times Silver shows cruelness and extreme brutality in executing other sailors. The
main idea of the story is finding the treasure. Ben Gunn has lived on the island for
three years, and knows where the treasure lies. Before the pirates find Jim and his
mother, Jim grabs a key and an oilskin packet from the old sea chest. Jim s father dies,
and he and his mother flee to the nearby town and ask them to help them but they

the people from the town decide to come to Jim and his mothers rescue. Later in the
book, Jim hides in an apple barrel and overhears Silver and other crewmates about
taking the ship once they have the treasure on the ship. When land was sighted a
conflict went on between Silver and another group of pirates. Jim escapes while the
fight is going on. He finds Ben Gunn and they become friends. Jim goes with Silver on
the hunt for the treasure. They discover that the treasure is missing, and they fire into
the surrounding area. The treasure was stowed in the Hispanolia s lower deck. Silver

Basketball Personal Narrative
Basketball my 6th grade year was rough. It was my very first year ever playing sports.
Since I went to a small elementary school everyone made the team and I was the only
6th grade student that joined I was so nervous the first practice my hands were
shaking way faster than I could run. The rest of the girls were eighth graders that had
a ball thrown at them the second the exited the womb; let me just tell you that season
sucked. Even though I cried after every game because I wasn t good enough and in
practice always crossed the finish line last I still somehow loved the game. It wasn t the
only game I loved though; I also loved soccer. After I kept the benches warm 6th grade
year I decided I was going to work hard. I started running a mile at least once a week.
Which turned into two miles after I filled a few buckets of sweat after a couple weeks.
I had convinced my uncle to let me be a substitute on his indoor soccer team since I
already missed tryouts. I loved indoor soccer so much and that s when I began to
really start improving. I scored my first goal that season with five others after. I loved
the feeling of putting in every drop of work I could into a game that I truly loved.

something new. Somehow I knew how to dribble the basketball ten times better, and my
defense was great. I went home so

Critiques of Ernest Hemingway s Novel, Death in the Afternoon
Ernest Hemingway s Death in the Afternoon shows a new side of Hemingway s writing
which initially disappointed the critics. Published in 1932, Death in the Afternoon was
not the expected fictional novel, but instead was more of a nonfiction description of
bullfighting and Spanish culture in the 1920 s and 1930 s. In Curtis Patterson s words, It
is a tripartite work: bullfighting in Spain, plus semi autobiographical details of the author,
plus smut. The smut is lugged in by the ears, is unnecessary, is not amusing. The semi
autobiographical details make me faintly sick at my stomach. The explanation of, guide

Hemingway s highly original captions, is a manual of bullfighting that leaves nothing to
be desired...It is a book teeming with life, vigorous powerful, moving and consistently
entertaining. In short it is the essence of Hemingway. 12
Besides these flattering reviews, overall, Death in the Afternoon was not well
acclaimed, and Hemingway was deeply impacted by this negative reception. He took
personal offense to the criticisms of his work, and held personal grudges against the
reviewers. He was specifically offended by Max Eastman s comment that Hemingway
lacks the serene confidence that he is a full sized man. For obscure reasons he feels a
continual sense of obligation to show evidence of red blooded masculinity. More than
the swing of his big shoulders or the clothes he puts on, the emotions he permits to rise
to the surface of his prose have formed a literary style of wearing false hair on the
chest... He loves killing because killing makes him feel triumphant over death. 13 In
response, Hemingway told Max Perkins that he was tempted to stop publishing because
swine like Eastman were not worth writing for and that he found the whole reviewing
racket as disgusting as
The Life Of A Slave By Harriet Jacob Essay
American History can be a complex subject to understand; its hard to understand when
someone tries to explain a story to you when you weren t there. Events throughout time
would be changed or learned differently if it weren t for autobiographies. I believe that
autobiographies are very important when it comes to American History. Since American
History could be very difficult to understand at once, so autobiographies help break
down personal story of certain people who lived through their specific time period and
tell the story they saw through their own eyes. I believe that American History is so
accurate because of autobiographies. Slavery, in my opinion, is the most studied and
learned event or time period in American History because people were treated so badly
and it was normal, it was acceptable. These slaves lived and worked in very harsh
conditions. I believe the only reason why we know so much about how bad slaves
were treated is because of three autobiographies, Incidents in the Life of a Slave by
Harriet Jacob, Autobiography of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass, who had a
huge impact during the times of slavery, and Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup.
Because of these three autobiographies historians can accurately explain how bad slavery
was.
A very helpful source of the time of slavery was Harriet Ann Jacobs. She is part of the
reason on why people know so much about slavery. Her stories tell the harsh conditions
the slaves had to work and live in;
Karl Marx View On Capitalism
As the world becomes more advanced, it transforms into an increasingly competitive
state. The idea of success starts getting measured by how much money people make, as
opposed to emotional happiness. We end up dedicating our schedule around job hours;
we tend to work more, and get paid less; we search for jobs that eventually drain our
energy. Everyone, meet capitalism(*private ownership of business as a means of
production). A Greek philosopher named Karl Marxonce suggested that, for these
reasons and more, capitalism is evil. Well, I agree. In this essay, I will closely examine
Marx s view on capitalism. I will then justify his proposition by applying it to my own
experiences. To begin, in Wage Labour and Capital / Estranged Labour , Karl Marx
explores the idea that capitalism is the root of corruption in our society. In this type of
community, he explains that labor is not the only thing being given to a business. For
instance, by giving someone our labour, we are also selling them our time which is an
essence of our existence. In this case, Marx suggests that we, the workers, are a
commodity (*a product for general sale in a market). Generally, people see a
commodity as a man made product for purchase. Marx argues against that by saying,
labour power... is a commodity, neither more or less than sugar , because the workers
sell their time/ effort to capitalists, for wages in return (Marx 204). To explain further,
a commodity can be a form of reification (*regarding something immaterial, as
material). In this sense, the items we produce with our labor, is a reification of time.
As we see occurring currently with minimum wage jobs, the more time someone sells
to a capitalist, the more work they produce. This results in the employee receiving
income. This income might not even completely fulfill the cost of all living expenses.
Nevertheless, society keeps trying to reach for the unrealistic goal of success . We
keep working, keep getting by, in hopes that one day we have a ridiculous amount of
money. And when we don t? We sell more of our time to try grasping that goal. This
cycle ultimately causes alienation (*loss of reality), as workers turn into machines (Marx
73). We begin to have one thing on our
Causes Of Deforestation In Brazil
Approximately two thirds of the Amazon rainforest and one third of the remaining
rainforest in the world is in Brazil. The Amazon is home to ten percent of the total
known species worldwide, making Brazil the most biodiverse country in the world.
However, deforestation and land conversion in Brazil are prevalent issues and a threat to
the biodiversity, endangered species, and indigenous people that live in the Amazon.
Deforestation in the Amazon is driven by demographic, political economic, and socio
economic forces. Demographic reasons include the increase in population size, change in
population densities, and migration of people within the country. Political economic
incentives are the result of policies that promote economic development, and the political
climate including corruption and the mismanagement of resources. Political economic
factors also include the property rights and several claims to land titling. In addition to
these, the development of public services such as roads, railways, water lines, electrical
grids and sanitation require large chunks of forest land to be cleared. Oil exploration and
mining are supplementary economic incentives that push policy makers to allow for the
deforestation of the Amazon. Socio economic factors include overall lack of concern
about forest and wildlife conservation, individual household behaviors, and agricultural
production.
The combined impact of the demographic, political economic, and socio economic
factors leads to

Johne s disease Introduction: Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis
(MAP) is commonly referred to Johne s disease and mainly affects cattle but is also
capable of infecting and causing the disease to occur in other ruminant species as well
(sheep, goats, llamas, deer.) The bacterium Mycobacterium paratuberculosis is the
cause of Johne s disease. This disease is a chronic, progressive, debilitating, incurable
bowel disease characterized by diarrhea, and weight loss. About twenty two percent of
dairy and eight percent of beef herds in the United States are estimated to be infected
with Johne s disease (Irish Veterinary Journal, 2009). In the past this disease has been
largely overlooked by the industry but has more recently gained relevance due to the
economic impact that occur from herd infection and the potential human health risks
associated with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. Johne s disease has become a more
relevant topic in terms of human health and how the disease could potentially be related
to Crohn s disease in humans. There has been significant research into how the two
diseases could potentially be related and or causative of one another. It is my assumption
that the disease will continue to gain further attention and relevance in the cattle and
livestock industries as a whole in the future. The need to discuss and consider this
disease as a physiological phenomenon is due to several factors. The disease impacts
adult cattle but is acquired in the

  • 2. The Role of Railroad Companies, Farmers, and Cowboys in... The 1880s proved to be a time of change for America. High unemployment rates and low wages in many cities forced many to look to new opportunities in cities and elsewhere. This included the newly expanded west. In the 1880s Kansas had three dominating groups railroad companies, farmers, and cowboys. All three dealt with individual triumphs and struggles when developing the West and specifically Kansas in the later part of the 19th century. Railroads spent most of the 1880s concerned with previous legislation, farmersworried about land allotment and surviving on the Plains. Cowboys also worried about land allotment and surviving. The worries of the last two created some tension between them but in the end survival of one depended on the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... 1862 was an important year in the world of the Kansas railroads. First, the Homestead Act was passed giving 160 acres of federal land to any citizen or person intending to be one. The condition was that they had to remain on the land for a minimum of five years. Anyone that stayed on this land for that period of time would become a citizen automatically. The land came from the railroads in an effort to dispose of substantial land holdings to settlers. (Evans 7) This law was particularly important to people in all parts of the Midwest. One reason is that it allowed unemployed northern workers a chance to start over somewhere new, with a new job, and hopefully make a good living for themselves and their families. The second reason wasthat many hoped that it would ultimately raise the wages of those people who did have jobs in the northern factories. (White 142) The Homestead Act was not the only expansion legislation passed in 1862. That year also saw the passage of the Pacific Railroad Act which provided land for the PacificRailroad. It doubled federal land grants to ten sections per mile within 20 miles on each side of the tracks. And it liberalized the term mineral rights by forfeiting all iron and coal deposits on the grant lands to the railroad companies. (Howard 170) It also offered subsidy to other efforts at building trunk line railroads. According to

Additionally, discriminationin the workplace will be evaluated and discussed. The Civil Rights Act of 1964 has helped in the transition to bring it to a state of equilibrium. However this created a significant amount of hostility in the workplace. The friends of the white males who were passed over for position began to despise the minority or woman who was hired. The little things that could legally be done in retaliation were done. The weapons used to discourage the instigators of change were things like additional work forcing the new employee to work nights and weekends or being looked over for public praise. Over time, the petty knee jerk reactions began to dissipate. However the distain for the invaders had not gone away it has only changed it outward appearance. The use of education verses experience has created a legal loophole allowing companies to hire who they want and reject other qualified employee who simply have not been given the opportunity to prove themselves. In an effort to dissolve public perceptions of discrimination token employees have been hired and put in positions of high visibility. As long as the person conforms to the public image which has been ingrained on the USA s public psyche as being the correct way of being, they are kept on. If they step out of line they, publicly disgraced and removed. On an individual basis, white men over the last 15 year have been given an unfair

The Warren s Court ruling in Brown v. Board of Education ruled that segregation in public schools as unconstitutional. It s rulings on Mapp v. Ohio ended up resulting in the exclusionary rule. The rule made any evidence obtained illegally as inadmissible in court. In Reynold s v. Sims required that legislative districts across states be made as equal as possible in population. Miranda v. Arizona resulted that your rights be read to you upon arrest or questioning. Each of these court cases helped to enforce and enhance the rights of many Americans. The case known as Brown v. Board of Educationwas actually the name that was given to five separate cases that were heard by the U.S. Supreme Court (History Brown v. Board of Education Re enactment). The cases were all combined because each case sought out desegregation as the remedy for grossly inadequate conditions in segregated black schools (Brown v. Board of Education). When meeting to decide the case, the Justices were divided over the issues that were raised. They were unable to come to a conclusion by June 1953 the end of the Courts 1952 1953 term. The Justices decided to rehear the case again in December. During that time, Chief Justice Fred Vinson died and was replaced by Earl Warren. When the case was reheard in December 1953, Chief Justice Earl Warren was able to bring all the
  • 6. Modern And Contemporary Arts Of Africa Tessa Giller 619194 Modern and Contemporary Arts of Africa Essay Word count: African art and the politics of identity in the twenty first century. Identity is never an a priori, nor a finished product; it is only ever the problematic process of access to an image of totality H. Bhahba (1994:50) Introduction. The second half of the twentieth century saw the liberation of the African continent from colonial rule, a time that occasioned the rise of new pride in and new searches for definitions of identities released from the colonial confines. In the twentieth century the politics of identity became salient in discourses, political, social, and cultural, on Africa. The idea of the diaspora was central to new conceptions on African art, often leading to the exclusion of artist residing in Africa in preference of those living in the nomadic condition. The forefront of Africa in modernity was thus not seen as residing in Africa itself but in those that found themselves in the realms of the hegemonic modernity of the West. Nevertheless independence from colonial rule saw a surge in self defining nationalisms based on an ideal form of African nation and identity. Ways of being and producing African art were prescribed to artists, though this does not mean that individual agency was lost. As Atkinson states on post Apartheid South Africa: it is clear that the stakes have shifted, and the country s reintegration into international art , culture, and politics, has
  • 7. How Much Is It Costing You to Breath Comfortably How Much Is It Costing You to Breath Comfortably It is hard to imagine how life would be without air conditioners. Before these electronic devices came, people used to keep large masses of ice to cool the place. When air conditioners were invented, their capacity was measured depending relative to the amount of ice melted in a day. This is where the word a ton of cooling came to be. A small home air conditioner is able to deliver two tons of cooling with a larger one about five tons. A ton is expressed as 12,000 BTUs per hour (British Thermal Units). A good air conditioner is able to maintain the indoor environment in the desired temperature. Unlike many other electrical devices, a conditioner needs several aspects to run properly. If ... It is recommended that you use authorised professional technicians if any around your area. If none, it would be prudent that you research for the best qualified technical team for your repairs. Visit manufacture and air conditioning installer websites and seek for good deals by contacting them. Most of them offer free quotes for both new installation and repairs. Major repair areas 1.Filters Every air conditioner has a grill like or shiny paper compartment upstream an evaporator that filters dirt particles from getting to the cooling unit. With time, filters are filled with dirt particles reducing airflow to the main system. This forces the conditioner to work harder. In addition, a dirty filter is also a source of air pollution into your house. You could have filters changed or cleaned every six months or less depending on quality of outdoor area. 2.Air ducts Air ducts transfer conditioned air across the building. When the ducts start leaking, you stand to lose up to fifty percent of your energy. This is because the system tries to compensate for the loss. Where air ducts pass to the outside, you need to have them well insulated. A professional contractor can help free up to a half a ton of your conditioner s capacity by sealing the ducts. 3.Condensing unit This is the outside compartment of the air conditioner. You need
  • 8. Christianity In The 3rd Century The Late Antiquity period marked the beginning of the primacy of Christianity in Europe and the Mediterranean, a primacy that has shaped the cultures of modern day in fundamental ways. Following the Roman Crisis in the 3rd century, the nature of the relationship between The Roman State and The Church (or rather, Churches, perhaps) underwent a profound evolution, eventually resulting in the end of Paganism, Roman power, and the period of Antiquity itself. Some of the most significant aspects of the relationship between Church and State in the fourth to sixth centuries AD were: the Tetrarchy, Constantine s conversion, the rise of Constantinople and the fall of the Western Empire, and the Codex of laws compiled by Theodosius cementing Nicene Christianityas the official religion of the State. The relationship between Church and State during this time provided the cocoon for this metamorphosis of history, and persecution in general was the silk that held it together. The development of this new relationship took centuries and many tears, but would have impacts for millennia. In the mid 3rd century the Roman Empire had all but fallen. Diocletian acted to save the corpulent empire by delegating, and these acts held the empire together for another century or more. However, the actions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the first Christian Emperor came a legitimacy that had been previously denied to Christians. Martyrdom was the most powerful outlet for influence they had before Constantine . Once the emperor stopped demanding that Christians sacrifice the foundation was set for full acceptance of Christian rights. The persecutions and counter persecutions taking place over the next decades and centuries served the purpose of refining the relationship between Church and State, but it can be said that the relationship between monarchs and bishops for the next thousand years truly began with Constantine s
  • 9. What Is The Theme Of Cinderella people just think of books as a form of entertainment, but humans can actually learn from them. For example: Grimm s version of Cinderella, published in 1812, was a favorite tale among children in Germany. Disney s reproduction of Cinderella, published in 1950, was a popular movie among kids in America. Italys translation of Cinderella, published in 1885, was favored story among families in Italy. In each version of Cinderella, Grimm, Disney, and Italy one greater theme stands out among all others. In the Grimm story of Cinderella , there is one vital theme: hate and contempt will get you nowhere in life, when it is simple to be kind. Furthermore, here is some background information before the support to this theme. The king announced a festival for his prince to meet a bride, Cinderella s step mom says to her that she is not coming, she goes to the tree at her mother s grave and asks the dove there for the same beautiful dress every night, she meets the prince at the ball, loses her slipper, prince uses the slipper to find Cinderella, and she tries it on and gets engaged to the prince. In addition to the background information, the support to the theme is when at Cinderella s wedding, her step sisters get their eyes pecked out, of because of how mean they are to Cinderella(7). Now, this story was written in Germany in 1812. Correspondingly, the theme was important to kids during that time in Germany because they didn t have any type of entertainment during
  • 10. Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night By Dylan Thomas Written by Dylan Thomas, the poem Do Not Go Gentle into That Good Night was published in 1951, two years before his early death at age 39. Referred to as a villanelle, this poem contains five three lined stanzas and one four lined stanza. In the first stanza, the unrevealed speaker is telling an unknown person not to give into death peacefully, but to fight against it as he or she expresses, rage, rage against the dying of the light (line 3). In this first stanza, Thomas uses a metaphor to compare dying of the light to death. In the next stanza, the speaker acknowledges that wise men near death know that their death is inevitable because their words had forked no lightning, but still encourages them not to give into death (4 5).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To illustrate, anaphora, which is the repetition of a word or phrase, is identified through the repeated use of do not go gentle into that good night (1,6,12,18). Similarly, Thomas also repeats the phrase Rage, rage against the dying of the light to create the same effect (3,9,15,19). Given that the poem is a villanelle, by definition, it follows a pattern in which the first and third lines are alternated at the end of the stanzas and both repeated at the end of the last stanza. By way of repetition, Thomas seems to be emphasizing the message the lines express, which is to not die peacefully but to fight against death, showing an unwillingness to give up. The repetition and strict structure by which the poem follows also helps the poem flow and sound pleasing to the ears (euphony). Furthermore, Thomas repeats this message, but with each stanza he applies it to a new subject: wise men...good men...wild men...grave men...my father (4,7,10,13,16). Interestingly, by changing the subject, Thomas gives the impression that the message is meant for all people, no matter what they are dealing with or who they may be. In addition, Thomas uses exact rhyme to help with flow and unity between the stanzas. For example, the two repeated phrases rhyme with night and light, while the middle lines of the tercets rhyme with day and they (1 3,5 6,9,12,15,18 19). By staying true to the strict villanelle form, the five three lined stanzas follow an
  • 11. How Did Shakespeare Contribute To Romeo And Juliet Shakespeare Biography Wherefore art thou Romeo, are words that most of inhabitants on Earth knows. Many would mistake as if Juliet, the female lead, was awaiting his arrival, asking where Romeo is. However, wherefore, actually defines as why, to be why are you Romeo? A deeper understanding of this line would be Juliet desiring Romeo to be another person, specifically someone who s family isn t a rival to Juliet s. A reason being is to freely express her feelings to Romeo. It s brilliant how the author portrays vivid emotion into his writing, and that man is no other than William Shakespeare. As a matter of fact, Shakespeare is known to be one of the greatest writers. But, how else could we see this genius as no other than a simple playwright? On April 26, 1564 Shakespeare was born during the Victorian era and under a glove maker and a tradesman. Since time has passed, the lifestyle has changed like hygiene. An example of hygiene from the past was the people not bathing because they believed that it was filthy and would let diseases into their bodies. Additionally, the lifestyle was so horrible that the life expectancy was 45 for those who didn t work hard labor. Luckily, Shakespeare lived to attend school around the age of seven, although he... William Shakespeare died in his birth town on 1616, but his work still lives on. Centuries later after his time, Shakespeare is still active in our daily lives through his talent. William Shakespeare is truly as he stated, Be not afraid of greatness: some are born great, some achieve greatness, and some have greatness thrust upon
  • 12. Curleys Wife Analysis Curly s Wife Curlys Wife is a very powerful and yet powerless character within the novel Of Mice and Men as Steinbeck uses her to reflect the prejudice against women in the 1930s since they had very little rights. Just from her title Curlys Wife she has no actual name, this shows that she is just Curlys property and powerless in the sense that she hasn t got her own individual identity, only an identity through her husband, also she doesn t have enough power to be called a woman instead she is discriminated against and is called derogatory terms such as a tart when Slim first speaks of her to George by saying I think Curly married a tart showing no respect for her From the beginning of when she is introduced in the novel she ... From the word soft in the sentence The sun streaks were high on the wall by now, and the light was growing soft we are reminded of Curlys Wife s soft velvet hair that Lennie liked and lost control with, taking us back to the seriousness of her death and feeling empathy for her character To conclude, Steinbeck uses Curlys Wife to get the readers awareness of how much women were discriminated against in the 1930s and how lonely and isolated she was because of her being a female. She wasn t seen as her own individual person but as a strand of someone else; her husband Curly. She used her best quality: her beauty to get the attention of the other guys on the ranch because she doesn t like her husband Curly and had a dream to become a famous actress in the Movies. She went past the rule of staying away from Lennie because of her desire to be noticed and be listened to by someone, this then led to her death which added to the part of everyone s dreams not coming

  • 14. Auditory System Essay The world contains all kinds of energy that translates into information about what we see, hear, smell, touch and taste. A sensory system is a part of the nervous system responsible for processing specific sensory information. The components of a sensory system include sensory receptors, neural pathways, and parts of the brain involved in sensory perception. To begin, energy from the environment stimulates the receptor cells in whichever sense organ is being used. If this information were auditory, the ear would convert sound waves in the air into electrical impulses that would further be interpreted by the brain as sound. A sound wave first enters the pinna, the fleshy part of the ear on the outside of the body. It then travels through... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The movements of the membranes then send the vibrations down the scala tympani. A structure called the Organ of Corti, which is situated on the basilar membrane, becomes stimulated as the membrane vibrates and sends nerve impulses to the brain. Within the Organ of Corti are a group of specialized cells called hair cells, which are covered by the tectorial membrane. As the basilar membrane vibrates, the hair cells are bents and push up against the tectorial membrane. This causes the hair cells to fire and send nerve impulses to the auditory cortex on each of the brains hemispheres through the cochlear nerve. How we determine pitch can be explained with two different theories. I believe that all people are meant to do something special and that everyone has a talent or a knack for something where they can be extraordinary. The key is to find it and embrace it. Its a sad thing to see so many people muddle through their lives just living to work, putting in their time and doing just enough to get by and making just enough to survive. So many people go through life and never find that one thing that moves them, that inspires them and gives meaning to their career. Other times I see people that do have a passion for something but are just to afraid to go after it. They are afraid to fail or that they won t be able to support themselves if they follow their dreams. That fear hangs over them for a long time before they finally let their dream be extinguished and then just live a life of regret. Most people never regret the risks they take in life, but they often regret the risks they DIDN T take. I took that risk and it changed my life forever. The Ethical And Legal Dilemmas That Ms. Burrows Dissecting an Ethical Case Study Section #1 The ethical and legal dilemmas that Ms. Burrows admitted to in the stipulation and final agency order were: billing insurance after taking payment for services, inadequate documentation and record keeping, and failure to have a signed mandatory disclosure (Stipulation Case No. 2013 938). When making reports to third parties such as insurance providers, counselors are required to be truthful and forthcoming (American Counseling Association, 2014). Taking cash payments and then billing an insurance company is not only untruthful, it is intentional fraud. Another fraudulent action committed by Ms. Burrows was billing under the depression codes but not having treatment plan connected to depression. Miscoding for the purposes of billing is insurance fraud (Lane, 2014). Section #2 The six basic moral principles: autonomy, non maleficense, beneficence, justice, fidelity, and veracity (Corey, 2015). This case suffered from non maleficense because Ms. Burrows was saying she was providing treatment for depression without doing so, thereby causing potential harm to her client. The client was denied autonomy by violation of her rights to receive proper treatment that she paid for. Mr. Burrows violated client s justice by not treating her fairly and denied her the mandatory disclosure documentation, which is also an issue of fidelity. The client s fidelity was broken when Ms. Burrows failed to record proper progress notes, thereby

The Final Cultural Factor Involved With Education Essay The final cultural factor involved with education in Japan is the essential part of education in Japan that involves the strengthening of the moral values of students. Passing down important moral values to children is the job of the school and parents (Whitburn, 1995), and one notable value that is portrayed in every Japanese schoolis the ability to cooperate with others well and efficiently. With this idea of a group identity, there is less of an emphasis on the individual, but more on the whole, which, according to Whitburn (1995), also helps contribute to order and discipline not only in society but also in the classroom. Again, the dependence on each other is included in schools, and since there is so much dependence on each other, the need for good cooperation increases. Along with this Japanese concept of a group identity lies many expectations held for the students in many of the school rules common to most, if not all, schools in Japan. According to Koda (personal interview, October 16, 2016), an exchange student from Japan, students are expected to wear their hair and required uniforms in certain ways and not to violate certain rules; many schools also require students to join clubs, or extracurricular activities, which are fun ways to get along well with other students and foster good relationships with certain faculty members. While Japan s overall education system seems to be simple and effective, it is not without its flaws, and people not used to

The traditional name for the northern lights, Aurora Borealis originated from the Greek words that mean sunrise (Aurora) and wind (Borealis). Childhood representation changed in the thirteenth century as art embodied aspects of childhood compared to miniature small scale representation. Ideally, the evolution towards a realistic and sentimental representation of childhood begins with the childhood of Jesus. The representation of Jesus on His mother s arms led to family representations that demonstrated childhood characteristics. However, a more realistic and sentimental childhood representation revolved around Jesus until the fourteenth century when the Italian art helped to develop and spread an ideal childhood representation. The gothic period produced yet another type of childhood representation. This period saw the representation of a naked child. The previous representation seldom represented a naked child, except in cases of innocence and death. The allegory of death and soul introduced child nudity in the medieval period. Nonetheless, the concept of Holy Childhood continued to develop in both variety and scope from the thirteenth century onwards. The progress of Holy Childhood showed the progress of the idea of childhood that was lacking in the previous centuries.

Within a few days Crimea was under Russian control and by July 2015 Crimea was formally integrated into Russia. The whole episode drew international consternation against Russia, which resulted in successive rounds of economic sanctions. A few days after the annexation, Ms. Clinton likened the move to the actions of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler(Rucker, 2014), a sentiment that was quickly adopted by the media; for example, on March 2, 2014 Bloomberg published an article entitled, In Ukraine, Echoes of the Anschluss (Bershidsky, 2014) and a few days later, on March 7, 2014, BBC published an article entitled, Crimea seen as Hitler style land grab (Kralova, 2014). Within philosophy, there are many ethical theories. Such theories include: the Divine Command Theory, Hedonism, Desire Theory, Ethical Relativism, and much more. In this term paper, I will discuss which theory I believe is the strongest and which theory I believe is the weakest. Regardless, there is no perfect theory. Each theory is without flaws. Act utilitarianism is when, according to Russ Shafer Landau, acts are right just because they maximize the overall amount of well being in the world . On the other hand, actions are wrong if they do not maximize the overall amount of well being in the world. The roman army was responsible for developing revolutionary fighting techniques which not only secured Rome s position as the most powerful force in the world, but would influence the fighting styles of other armies for hundreds of years. But a machine so intricate and complex was not created in a day. It was through much trial and error and the test of time that the Roman army became the world power that we remember it as. Events throughout time would be changed or learned differently if it weren t for autobiographies. I believe that autobiographies are very important when it comes to American History. Since American History could be very difficult to understand at once, so autobiographies help break down personal story of certain people who lived through their specific time period and tell the story they saw through their own eyes. I believe that American History is so accurate because of autobiographies. Slavery, in my opinion, is the most studied and learned event or time period in American History because people were treated so badly and it was normal, it was acceptable. These slaves lived and worked in very harsh conditions. I believe the only reason why we know so much about how bad slaves were treated is because of three autobiographies, Incidents in the Life of a Slave by Harriet Jacob, Autobiography of Frederick Douglass by Frederick Douglass, who had a huge impact during the times of slavery, and Twelve Years a Slave by Solomon Northup. Because of these three autobiographies historians can accurately explain how bad slavery was. A very helpful source of the time of slavery was Harriet Ann Jacobs. She is part of the reason on why people know so much about slavery. Her stories tell the harsh conditions the slaves had to work and live in;

Everyone, meet capitalism(*private ownership of business as a means of production). A Greek philosopher named Karl Marxonce suggested that, for these reasons and more, capitalism is evil. Well, I agree. In this essay, I will closely examine Marx s view on capitalism. I will then justify his proposition by applying it to my own experiences. To begin, in Wage Labour and Capital / Estranged Labour , Karl Marx explores the idea that capitalism is the root of corruption in our society. In this type of community, he explains that labor is not the only thing being given to a business. For instance, by giving someone our labour, we are also selling them our time which is an essence of our existence. In this case, Marx suggests that we, the workers, are a commodity (*a product for general sale in a market). Generally, people see a commodity as a man made product for purchase. Marx argues against that by saying, labour power... is a commodity, neither more or less than sugar , because the workers sell their time/ effort to capitalists, for wages in return (Marx 204). To explain further, a commodity can be a form of reification (*regarding something immaterial, as material). In this sense, the items we produce with our labor, is a reification of time. As we see occurring currently with minimum wage jobs, the more time someone sells to a capitalist, the more work they produce. This results in the employee receiving income. This income might not even completely fulfill the cost of all living expenses. Nevertheless, society keeps trying to reach for the unrealistic goal of success . We keep working, keep getting by, in hopes that one day we have a ridiculous amount of money. And when we don t? We sell more of our time to try grasping that goal. This cycle ultimately causes alienation (*loss of reality), as workers turn into machines (Marx 73). We begin to have one thing on our
  • 38. Causes Of Deforestation In Brazil Approximately two thirds of the Amazon rainforest and one third of the remaining rainforest in the world is in Brazil. The Amazon is home to ten percent of the total known species worldwide, making Brazil the most biodiverse country in the world. However, deforestation and land conversion in Brazil are prevalent issues and a threat to the biodiversity, endangered species, and indigenous people that live in the Amazon. Deforestation in the Amazon is driven by demographic, political economic, and socio economic forces. Demographic reasons include the increase in population size, change in population densities, and migration of people within the country. Political economic incentives are the result of policies that promote economic development, and the political climate including corruption and the mismanagement of resources. Political economic factors also include the property rights and several claims to land titling. In addition to these, the development of public services such as roads, railways, water lines, electrical grids and sanitation require large chunks of forest land to be cleared. Oil exploration and mining are supplementary economic incentives that push policy makers to allow for the deforestation of the Amazon. Socio economic factors include overall lack of concern about forest and wildlife conservation, individual household behaviors, and agricultural production. The combined impact of the demographic, political economic, and socio economic factors leads to

In 1942, Oskar Schindler saw Jews in a ghetto riot getting packed into the cars( Oskar Schindler. The). He felt something at that moment and it really awakened him that he really needs to save Jews. As the Holocaust got worse his protection of his workers became very important. Schindler helped a lot through bribes and personal friendships with the government to help the Jews not get threatened everyday and to make sure that the SS doesn t report them. His business helped him draw on Jews that were under the power of the Gestapo. Schindler kept his promises to his Schindlerjuden and treated them like his own children. Johne s disease Introduction: Mycobacterium avium subspecies paratuberculosis (MAP) is commonly referred to Johne s disease and mainly affects cattle but is also capable of infecting and causing the disease to occur in other ruminant species as well (sheep, goats, llamas, deer.) The bacterium Mycobacterium paratuberculosis is the cause of Johne s disease. This disease is a chronic, progressive, debilitating, incurable bowel disease characterized by diarrhea, and weight loss. About twenty two percent of dairy and eight percent of beef herds in the United States are estimated to be infected with Johne s disease (Irish Veterinary Journal, 2009). In the past this disease has been largely overlooked by the industry but has more recently gained relevance due to the economic impact that occur from herd infection and the potential human health risks associated with Mycobacterium paratuberculosis. Johne s disease has become a more relevant topic in terms of human health and how the disease could potentially be related to Crohn s disease in humans. There has been significant research into how the two diseases could potentially be related and or causative of one another. It is my assumption that the disease will continue to gain further attention and relevance in the cattle and livestock industries as a whole in the future. The need to discuss and consider this disease as a physiological phenomenon is due to several factors. The disease impacts adult cattle but is acquired in the
