WH CH 23 French Revolution

WH CH17 Renaissance

WH CH14 Hundred Years War

Joan of Arc helped rally the French during the war through military victories before being captured and burned at the stake.
WH CH 6 Roman Empire
1. The Roman Empire split into western and eastern halves in 284 AD under Diocletian to more effectively administer its vast territory.
2. Constantine established Constantinople as the capital of the Eastern Roman Empire in 330 AD, strengthening its dominance in the east.
3. The Western Roman Empire continued to weaken due to invasions and was sacked by barbarians in 410 AD, while the Eastern Empire lasted another 1000 years under Byzantine rule from Constantinople.

- 6. • Those with visible health problems or diseases were sent home or held in the island's hospital facilities for long periods of time. • they were asked 29 questions including name, occupation, and the amount of money they carried with them. • Generally those immigrants who were approved spent from two to five hours at Ellis Island. • However more than three thousand would-be immigrants died on Ellis Island while being held in the hospital facilities. • Some unskilled workers were rejected outright because they were considered "likely to become a public charge." About 2 percent were denied admission to the U.S. and sent back to their countries of origin for reasons such as chronic contagious disease, criminal background, or insanity. • Ellis Island was sometimes known as "The Island of Tears" or "Heartbreak Island" because of those 2% who were not admitted after the long transatlantic voyage.
