Wechsler Intelligence Research Paper
Intelligence Testing in Wechsler s Perspective
The definition of Intelligence has been a long debated topic, and there have been various theories and
perspectives of intelligence to date. As a result, various intelligence tests and its controversies have
surfaced with these perspectives.
One of the Charles Spearman proposed his intelligence tests on general ability, g, dismissing external
factors in the contribution of intelligence, and scoring was determined only by the factor g (Tugoy,
2003). Wechsler disagreed and defined intelligence as the individual s universal ability to act
purposefully, to reason and to affect his environment (Kezer Arik, 2012, p. 2105). In contrast to
Spearman s intelligence tests, which consists only of cognitive ... Show more content on

Researchers such as Stanovich believe that intelligence tests are unable to measure the different
notions of mental capacity. While intelligence tests take into account cognitive abilities that can be
used in the individual s everyday environment, it neglected rational thinking which includes sensible
decision making or goal prioritising (Glenn, 2009). These are important factors which contribute to
the cognitive ability of an individual. For example, a person who scores high on an intelligence test
might make poor decisions. The lack of rational thinking, as well as other aspects of cognitive ability,
might affect the individual s life in the same way that the factors measured in these intelligence tests
do. It is important to also note that many criticize intelligence tests for its lack of comprehensive
understanding of intelligence, and they argue that many tests emphasise on only one or two aspects of
the concept. However, in recent years, the CHC model, a three stratum test, is generally acknowledged
as the foundation for many contemporary intelligence tests (Kranzler Floyd, 2013). This shows how
intelligence tests have evolved to bridge the gap between its effectiveness and

A Character Analysis Of Flipped
Have you ever met a person like Bryce Loski? If you have, I feel bad for you. Well sure everybody in
Flipped has a different mindset, but no one has a mindset like Bryce. In Flipped, by Wendelin Van
Draanen, the character Bryce has a fixed mindset. He is basically a jerk, just like his FATHER. If you
want to say he has a growth mindset, you should read Flipped again. What can I say about Bryce
Loski and his mindset? Oh Boy!! I can say a lot alright. In the beginning of Flipped, Bryce hasn t even
met Juli yet and he already called her mud monkey. The text says on page 3, I couldn t believe it!
There I was holding Mud Monkey s hand! He only said that because he saw her muddy feet, and that
was the first thing he saw that was on her. When

The Agency s Compensation For Employees
The Capital Budget
This paper will analyze the agency s compensation for employees. A rationale on the cost and benefits
would be for a 2 percent, 4 percent, or 5 percent pay increase for the fiscal year 2014. The effects of
the increase on benefits for the agency will be discuss and a chart depicting the increase for each
percentage will be provided. The trend of the agency over the past five years will be reviewed and an
analysis explaining the trend for expenditures will be prepared.
This paper will also encompass an explanation of a five year forecast of the four highest expenditures.
An analysis whether the costs should be approved or not approved will be included. Two options for
predicting the cost of needed repairs to the current building that houses the selected agency will be
compared. A rationale for recommending one of the two options will be provided.
Payroll Forecast The compensation for employees of Guilford County Social Services is competitive
among other related job vacancies of Guilford County. As for job titles of Social Director, Social
Program Manager, Social Worker I, II, and III, and Social Worker Protect Services, the salaries varies.
This also depends on experience and education background of the job position. The annual starting
minimum salary for the position of a Social Services Director is $104,317 and the maximum salary is
$140,828. The Social Work Program Manager salary range is $60,992 to $103,686. A Social Worker

Persuasive Essay On Traffic Laws
As time progresses, an interest for advancement lingers within individuals, as have with times passed.
That is to say, such interest arouses the desire for putting into play several well thought out ideas.
Some of which have resulted successful and common within the population. In particular, the
invention of the automobile. Nowadays, driving has become one of the most used methods for
transportation. In fact, with car technology improving, the amount of drivers seem to further escalate.
A Los Angeles Times article states, the number of vehicles on the road reached a record level of
almost 253 million, an increase of more than 3.7 million, or 1.5%, (253 Million Cars and Trucks on
U.S. Roads). Even though modern technology has opened windows to a new world of possibilities,
individuals still take such developments for granted. Drivers thoughtlessly violate traffic laws, which
in return, result in a range of consequences. For this reason, citizens should respect laws to avoid
getting themselves into trouble and to grow an appreciation for the current way of life.
Undoubtedly, transportation hasn t always been as accessible as it is now. For centuries, people have
come up with innumerable ways of getting themselves from one location to another. In former times,
people would use their available resources for several purposes. Some of these included the use of
animals for travel, which involved: horses, ox, mules, camels, etc. Yet, at the same time, maintaining

Overcoming Adversity In The Film October Sky
I recite, success doesn t come serene, success must be earned, success requires determination
(Anonymous Writer). Everyone has an endeavour to become extraordinary. Consequently, many
people do not possess the obligatory attributes to accomplish an aim or motive in their lives. In the
film October Sky, Homer Hickam the protagonist overcame a sequence of calamities along his journey
to become a successful rocket fabricating engineer. He clawed his way out of an unenlightened cave
where coal mining was his only fate. Where there lacked serendipity, there was no surmise for
someone as impecunious and inauspicious as him to become successful. Moreover, the two utmost
points of discussion I will address consist of Homer overcoming ... Show more content on

Additionally, when Homer s father said I ve been mad as hell at you. But it s the first time in your life
I ve been ashamed of you. Imperils Homer s emotional and mental well being a substantial amount.
Especially when one knows the odds of becoming successful coming from a town like Coalwood is
little to slim. The support of family members is remarkably crucial in times of making difficult
decisions such as choosing to work in a coal mine or choosing to find another path to success. In spite
of this, Homer managed to be persistent throughout his work, and with indefatigability continued to
pursue his dream to be a rocket building engineer. When Homer s rocket got purloined while he was at
the national science fair his mother defended him by saying Homer has gotten a lot of help from the
people in this town. They ve helped him build his rockets. They ve watched him fly em. But not you.
You never showed up, not even once (October Sky, Elsie Hickam). She had undoubtedly contributed
to the process of Homer resolving the austerity between his father. Primarily when she said I m not
asking you to believe in it, but he s your son, for God s sake. And I am asking you to help him. That

Positive And Non Harmful Rewards
On the other hand, you also want to make the positive counter behaviour seem more attractive. You
should try to increase the attractiveness of the alternative, good behaviour by rewarding yourself and
turning the behaviour in to something more fun.
Self control can be quickly improved if you acknowledge the successes you make with little rewards.
Humans seek for that positivity rush, the release of dopamine, which can often be the cause for bad
behaviours. But instead of getting the rush from checking your Facebook every five minutes, you can
seek to turn it around and feel the rewards once you don t check your social media.
When it comes to rewarding the right behaviour, the focus should be on positive and non harmful
reward. For instance, even if over eating isn t your problem you don t want to replace smoking with
eating a cookie, as this can quickly cause you another problem altogether.
What could positive and non harmful rewards be? It should be an action you love and it s a good idea
to swap between a few ideas, to avoid being stuck with another behaviour. For example, you could go
to movies if you avoid being late from work for a whole week. You could buy your favourite
magazine or sleep an hour longer on a Sunday morning. At work, you could take ten minutes off to
chat with a colleague if you finish a task in a specific amount of time.
The key is to find a reward that gives you the feeling of accomplishment and which you don t take for
granted. For instance, if

The Evolution Of Oled Displays
In the modern era of Graphical Display Technology, there has been a rapid advancement. With arise of
CRTs; there came an existence for the world of displays. Soon after, various research and development
in the field of displays gave the cutting edge technologies such as LCDs, LEDs, and Plasma Displays.
In such scenario, a display ability to produce deep, dark blacks and crisper colors are arguably the
most important factor in achieving excellent picture quality. Deeper blacks allows for higher contrast
and richer colors, and thus a more realistic and dazzling image. When it comes to black levels, OLED
reigns as the undisputed champion. OLEDS stands for Organic Light Emitting Diodes. OLEDs are

were patented in 1975 and published in 1983. The first practical OLEDs: American physical chemist
Ching W. Tang and Steven Van Slyke at Eastman Kodak built the first practical OLED device in
1987.This device used a two layer structure with separate hole transporting and electron transporting
layers such that recombination and light emission occurred in the middle of the organic layer; this
resulted in a reduction in operating voltage and improvements in efficiency. 3. Evolution: The
discovery of the electroluminescence in organic crystals by Martin Pope and his research group in
1963 has opened a new era, especially in the field of OLEDs. However, the development of organic
electroluminescence based devices is very slow due to the requirement of high voltage as well as for
low efficiency. About 29 years ago, in 1987, Ching W. Tang and Steve Van Slyke have discovered the
first efficient light emitting device based

The Corporate Culture Of Ford And Tata Motor
What really led to the success of the acquisition however, was the contrasting corporate cultures
adopted by JLR under the ownership of Ford and Tata Motor s respectively. Ford emphasized on role
culture and had a deeply ingrained hierarchical structure. It was a bureaucratic set up where influence
and power was correlated to roles and positions. Tasks were assigned based on the position and there
was little room for one to showcase individual talents and abilities. Production decisions were made
by top management and they paid little focus on consumer demand. For instance, Ford continued to
produce big trucks and SUVs when the real demand was for smaller and cheaper cars. This led to a
steep decline in sales. Further, the fact that more importance ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

This translated into a profound interest in the working of JLR, both pre and post acquisition. He had
immense respect for the two brands and wanted to continue building the brands on their heritage and
competitiveness, keeping their fundamental identities intact.
Although he did not believe in implementing his way of doing things, he did engage himself in a
manner he deemed suitable. For instance, he made several changes at the top level management of
JLR by bringing in experienced German executives who understood the luxury car market inside out.
On the production side, he was constantly engaged in giving feedback and was especially involved in
the development of the Jaguar F Type. His primary aim was to support JLR s growth and not be in
control of their operations.
He was convinced from the very beginning that the acquisition of the two brands was a sound
financial decision and it would be profitable in the future, despite contradicting opinions from his
advisors. He ultimately came through for the entity when it was in desperate need of funds by
pumping in capital through its parent

Analysis Of Tom Wacaster s Book Galatians
In his book, Studies in Galatians, Tom Wacaster addresses a very vital need: to provide common level,
sound commentaries of the Bible. Books such as this are very beneficial, as they assist an average
member of the church to expand their understanding of God s word. This, as Wacaster stated himself,
was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to give just one precious
soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been worth the time spent in
preparing and publishing (3, 4). Wacaster has surely accomplished this worthy objective and more
with this valuable book. Wacaster s book, which is (as the title suggests) centered on Paul s epistle to
the Galatians, is very obviously intended to the common level, average audience. Wacaster does not
delve into complex conversations of textual variants, manuscript discrepancies, and disputations of
authorship, nor does he use vocabulary or phraseology that is above the understanding of most
individuals. Rather, Wacaster is simple, straightforward, and effective in communicating his points on
the wonderful book of Galatians. With many commentaries that are written at a graduate and scholarly
level, a more basic approach is much appreciated and needed. Wacaster took a very direct approach in
organizing Studies in Galatians. It is setup as a verse by verse commentary, with each verse being
given in the American Standard Version and then followed by the author s discussion of

City Of St. Petersburg Case Study
The dream, the vision and the action to finalize a deal which would bring a Major League Baseball
(MLB) team to the City of St. Petersburg was realized in 1998 when the Tamp Bay Devil Rays took
the field for the first time at Tropicana Field. The City of St. Petersburg became victorious in
succeeding where Tampa had prevailed so many times before. The triumph came when a group of
ambitious businessmen collaborated to build what became the Florida Suncoast Dome in 1988 in
downtown St. Petersburg. There had been a competition between Tampa and St. Petersburg to see who
would build a new baseball stadium first. Tampa already had Raymond James Stadium, had built
MacDill Air Force Base and the Florida Aquarium, St.Petersburg had nothing. St. Petersburg desperate
to attract big business and attractions to the west side of Tampa Bay went and built the new stadium
before securing a major league baseball team. The city was buried deep in the controversial move, for
a mid market city to invest in a stadium without first securing a franchise could cost the city and the
tax payers significantly. The gamble paid off and through years of trying to lure a franchise from other
cities and being denied at every opportunity, the City of St. Petersburg was granted an expansion team

Explain the Mechanism Behind the Money Multiplier. How Can...
This essay will explain and illustrates the key mechanism behind the money multiplier and explore
how monetary authorities can influence its size and affect the money supply in the economy. Firstly,
an introduction on money measure will be presented. Secondly, the mechanism behind money
multiplier will be presented by using equations to explain the cyclical changes in the multiple factor.
Thirdly, the examination of the money multiplier in the current economic climate will be put forward.
Fourthly, an explanation on the open market operation, discount window and the reserve ratio will be
presented to convey the influence in the size of money supply. Finally, this essay will conclude with
an overview of the essay.

Therefore, the monetary base holds £180. Similarly, if another customer deposits £400, the bank
would have to reserve £80 and may convert the remaining £320 into loans or purchase government
securities (Howell Bain, 2008). Nevertheless, it should be noted that the change in the money
multiplier depends on the reserve requirement ratio and the public s willingness to deposit currency
(Vasudevan, 2003). For instance, when the depositor keeps less currency it will have an effect on
deposit as it will be multiplying more. In comparison, if the depositor holds more currency then less
multiple deposits will occur (Ireland, 2010).
Conversely, the banking system are required to keep a portion of the depositor funds for precautionary
circumstances and the rest may be converted in to loans, thereby increasing the available cash by a
factor that is a multiple of the initial deposit (Business Dictionary, 2010). For example, assume that
the money supply in the economy is £900 billion, the total deposits are £500 billion and the reserved
required is 12%.
The calculation for mm is the following:
In this example above, a £1 increase in Monetary Base/high powered money leads to a £2.20 increase
in Money supply. However, according to Vasudevan (2003) states the changes in reserve requirements
can be captured in the multiplier. The money multiplier tends to rise when

The Story Of The Movie The Great Gatsby And Snow...
Heroes are found everywhere when Disney is involved. From a prince or princess to secretive toys to
the smallest forms of life on earth, a hero can be found in anyone. Being attached to one or a few is
entirely common. These certain characters may be the ones they look up to. Young girls often choose
to look up to a princess, although, they are not what they were over 50 years ago. The very first
Disney princess, Snow White, is purely a damsel in distress. The same goes for Aurora who appeared
in Sleeping Beauty years later. As the years have gone on, that weaker vision of a princess has faded.
The modern day princesses are anything but damsels needing to be saved by a man. Rapunzel chooses
to give up her freedom in order to save Flynn Rider s life. Tiana works hard to provide for herself so
she can chase her dream. Merida rejects what everyone else thinks she should be and is true to herself.
Elsa only needs the love from her sister. This list will only get bigger as Disney continues to create
these young female heroines. If anything, Disney is preaching to young girls everywhere to be strong
in a world that may play on their faults or weaknesses. During a time strong feminist movements,
Disney manages to satisfy demands by allowing the girl to be the hero. Though Snow White and
Sleeping Beauty are still timeless classics, the princesses of today set a better example for young girls
everywhere and that is why they seem to be more attractive than the originals. Disney has a

The Energy Star program estimate that most people could save money on their AC bills by ridding
their home of air leaks. Most older houses have large and small cracks in the foundation, roof and
walls. These cracks could be small or gaping holes. Most people might only notice large holes, but
some cracks cannot be seen without a magnifying glass.
After locating the air leaks, the technician will seal the cracks with a caulk or foam. An HVAC
technician can find leaks with a blower and infrared cameras. A blower is a large fan that is installed in

If the garage has an uneven floor, the technician can apply a brush seal. It will prevent dirt and water
from penetrating the floor. The most durable seals are made from nylon and aluminum.
Weather stripping can keep your garage warm during the winter months and cool during the summer

Task Switching
The Cost of Task Switching Humans are not like any other living species. Their cognitive ability
allows them to preform both simple tasks and complex tasks. It is assumed that people carry out
cognitive and motor tasks by tapping into their task sets. Task set is the cognitive process the brain
takes to perform the task. Every time a person multitasks in order to get more stuff done faster they are
experiencing task switching. For example, a student could be typing notes during the lecture and has
to type and listen to the professor at the same time. Typing the lecture most probably will take longer
since the student has to listen to the professor at the same time. From running a marathon to solving
complex mathematical equations the brain ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Another example of a task switching would be when an Olympian medalist has a 400 meter sprint and
then has to perform 20 jumping jacks the brain has to quickly stop one motor act and start a new one.
For us it might seem flawless but for an Olympian in a race every millisecond counts and that delay
tends to raise one s reaction cost. This particular experiment tests if there is a significant difference in
reaction time between task switch and task repeat. In other words, when one changes from doing one
cognitive task to another does the brain shift gears and would the second task will be negatively
affected. In other words, will there be a task switching cost. This may happen since the brain has to
stop what it is doing and concentrate on a new cognitive and/or motor task. This is called the task set
reconfiguration (Monsell, 2003) , and causes a delay in one s reaction time which ultimately effects
their performance on that task. Research has shown (Monsell, 2003) that switching between multiple
task tend to raise one s reaction cost. This experiment recorded the error rate of task switching versus
task repeat. This allowed us to prove that there is a significant difference between them and support
the hypothesis of task set

Color Blindness Essay
Color Blindness
Many people refer to problems with one s ability to see color as color blindness, however, unless a
person can t see any color at all, color vision problems should be called by another term. Common
terms are abnormal color vision, color deficiency and color vision confusion. Females maybe be
effected by color blindness, but usually they are just carriers. Males are more often affected. About 8%
of males and 0.5% of females are effected by color blindness. Although color blindness may be a
result of another eye disorder, the majority of color blind cases are hereditary and present at birth. The
retina, is a complex nerve system which converts light energy into electrical energy that is then

This is the rarest form of color blindness. This is when no colors can be seen at all. The color receptors
are almost completely gone in this form, however, the white and black receptors remain intact.
However, this condition is often misdiagnosed without proper testing. There are three basic types of
color blindness: deuteranopia, protanopia and tritanopia. Deuteranopia is a condition in which people
have trouble dealing with green. These people are one of the largest groups of color blind people. Very
often, these people also have a problem with red. These people can often distinguish red or green
when with other colors, but when it is by itself, it is very difficult. Many people will just see it as
white. Protanopia are those seem to need an abnormal amount of red or have no sense of red color
vision. Often, people will see bold red as black or nonexistent. Some people may see red orange as
brown and yellow green as brown. In other words, neither red or green can often be distinguished for
sure. Tritanopia are those who have trouble distinguishing blue and yellow. This disorder is much less
common than the red green colorblindness, and is usually acquired, not received through heredity.
These people may see both blue and yellow as white. They may even see mint green or pink as an
equal to light blue. Red color blindness is the most common. This is when the red color receptors are
nonexistent. These

Speech On Yoga
Yoga for Beginners
By now you ve definitely heard how amazingly beneficial yoga is. It seems like everyone everywhere
is either practicing yoga or talking about their yoga practice.
There s a reason yoga has become so popular in recent years. It works, and has the capability to
seriously change your life. Not only is yoga an awesome way to get your body moving, but is also
extremely beneficial for your mind and offers a sense of calm in the midst of a reality that is often
filled with chaos.
Yoga literally means to unite or to be made whole and is an excellent practice for attaining balance in
mind, body, and soul. Yoga extends far beyond stretching your muscles and getting in some exercise.
It reaches to touch upon an inner tranquility ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Drop the Comparisons
This is a huge one and should be considered from day one. If you re taking a beginning yoga class
there is a big possibility you ll inadvertently end up comparing yourself to others in your class.
Some common thoughts that might make their way into your mind...Is her downward dog better than
mine? Why can t I touch my feet like the person next to me? Am I even doing this right?!?
Yoga is a deeply personal practice and comparing yourself to others offers no benefit whatsoever.
Remember that you are exactly where you need to be and everything you re doing on your mat is
perfect. So what if you can t touch your toes yet? The only thing that matters is that you re on your
mat and have made the commitment to dedicate this time to your own beautiful self.
6. Embrace the Journey
Yes, yoga is a journey and can open up a deeper connection with mind and body than you ever thought
possible. Embrace the challenges and remember just how amazingly beneficial this practice is.
Be open to the emotions and physical challenges you re likely to confront. You re doing something
completely new to you and even if your mind seems to be everywhere but on your mat, accept this.
You are where you are and yes, you are doing it

Study on Essential Hypertension
PRESENTATION BY:
GIZELLE WILKINSON
SUBJECT: ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION
STUDENT NUMBER: M00037713
CLINICAL SCIENCES II
INTRODUCTION
Essential hypertension, otherwise known as primary or idiopathic hypertension, is a condition of
raised blood pressure with no identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension occurs when blood pressure
elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal diseases,
endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy.
This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. Blood
pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and weight.
Levels of blood pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the lumen
and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing increased
rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen size is
reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell tissue.
This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart
muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common results
of hypertension in this case.
Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the way
for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce microscopic
infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that fill with fluid,
otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae.
In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the
damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results in
multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney.
As the glomeruli are part of the filtration system in the nephron of the kidney, damage can hinder
removal of waste products, salt and water from the blood stream. Progressive destruction of

Case Study On Instruction Versus Collaboration
Case Analysis
Instruction versus collaboration
Greg Chappell followed an instruction based coaching style, characterised by an authoritarian,
dogmatic, dictatorial, my way or the highway coaching style, whereas Gary Kirsten followed a
collaborative style, which is more participative and ranges from democratic to laissez faire.
The overall results of a research(titled An Integral Approach to Coaching in Elite Sport ) carried out
by Paddy Upton) showed a statistically significant difference between the coaches style and the
players preferred style, with the players preferring less instruction based coaching and more
collaboration (Figure 1).

Performance Focus
A personal coaching focus has its primary focus on the individual as a person, with their performance
as the secondary focus, whilst a performance focus is primarily on sporting performance/behaviour
and/or actions, and secondarily on the individual from whom the performance emanates.
When coaching for mental toughness in cricket, the focus must be extended to include a personal
focus, rather than focusing on performance alone. Gary Kirsten, who represented South Africa in 101
test matches, sums this up; When you walk out in a tight situation on the fifth day of a test match,
what is tested is more the person than his skills (Sunday Times, 2004).
Greg Chappell followed a rigid strategy. Chappell s critics felt that he lacked the people skills and
human touch that were so necessary for a coach to succeed. There was also a feeling that Chappell
was much too interested in preserving his own power equation in the team. Also he was insensitive to
the pertaining team culture. His experimental approach ended up in disturbing the order and
performance of the team members.

Visit To The Siesta Keys
If you are reading this, it is probably sometime much further in the future than the date on the top of
this page. I am writing this letter because I would like to share with you a fond memory of mine.
Attached to this letter there should be a collage. I do not know how the environment will be in fifty
years (or even later), but I hope it can stay as beautiful as it is now. The scenery depicted in my
collage is of a beach in Sarasota, Florida, the Siesta Keys. My first visit to the Keys is one of my most
fondest memories because I had never felt sand that was so perfect, I had never seen a sea so blue, and
I had never felt the sun at that degree of heat. I do not remember the actual temperature it was that
July, but I remember getting light headed

Reconstruction Of The United States
Schutz, Jackson CRN 36889 T/R 9:35 20 September 2015 Reconstructing the Unconstructable
Gunshots rang throughout American soil in the year 1861. The seven southern states seceded and
formed the Confederate States of America. The remaining northern states were known as the Union.
The central issue between the Union and the Confederacy was slavery which led to America s
bloodiest war, lasting four years and leaving roughly six hundred thousand people dead. The North
was victorious and the South s infrastructure was severely crippled. All slaves were set free and a
month before the official end to the war, Lincoln was assassinated, leaving Vice President Andrew
Johnson to take over the Presidency. The next task for America to tackle was the South s
reconstruction which would continue until 1877. Although reconstruction made the South go through
many changes leading to lots of progress, it also had some fallbacks from the resentment present in the
South. The 13th Amendment was passed saying, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a
punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United
States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Upon the emancipation of all black slaves inside the
United States, children flocked to newly established schools made possible by missionaries, groups of
ex slaves, and even the Freedman s Bureau. Congress set up the Freedman s Bureau to aid black
former slaves in the South.

Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Mental Illness In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
Abstract
Mental illness is a prominent problem in today s troublesome world. Each day many people are
diagnosed with a mental illness, most commonly depression. The human mind becomes tarnished
when a person has a mental illness, and often the illness takes over a person s life completely. Mental
illness is a serious problem and often goes untreated or misdiagnosed. The darkness within a person s
mind is one of the toughest aspects of life for people to conquer and many lose themselves in the fight.
To further understand mental illness, it would be easiest to peer into the life of someone with one of
these illnesses. For example, taking a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While filming the movie, which eventually became one of his biggest successes, he fell in love with
his on screen wife Michelle Williams. The love sprouted after Williams had injured her knee and
Ledger took it upon himself to care for her. Their love grew so quickly that Williams was pregnant
before the film was finished. Their child, Matilda was born in October of 2005. The two girls were the
loves of his life which he was quite open about. During the following couple years, Heath s fame
increased and the demand for his work grew, keeping him away from home more and more. This led
to a break in the relationship between him and Michelle. They separated, and this sent Ledger into the
darkest place he d ever been. He was crushed and depressed over the fact that he couldn t spend time
with his daughter. This depression, coupled with anxiety and insomnia that he had experienced for
most of his adult life, led to him taking a plethora of prescription pills to counteract his illnesses.
Eventually, this barrage of medications on his body caught up with him, and he passed away due to
accidental overdose on January 22, 2008. The story of Ledger s life is saddening to say the least, and
just goes to show that mental illness is a silent killer that can take the life of any unsuspecting victim
caught in its path (Pendleton, 2008).

  • 2. Wechsler Intelligence Research Paper Intelligence Testing in Wechsler s Perspective The definition of Intelligence has been a long debated topic, and there have been various theories and perspectives of intelligence to date. As a result, various intelligence tests and its controversies have surfaced with these perspectives. One of the Charles Spearman proposed his intelligence tests on general ability, g, dismissing external factors in the contribution of intelligence, and scoring was determined only by the factor g (Tugoy, 2003). Wechsler disagreed and defined intelligence as the individual s universal ability to act purposefully, to reason and to affect his environment (Kezer Arik, 2012, p. 2105). In contrast to Spearman s intelligence tests, which consists only of cognitive ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Researchers such as Stanovich believe that intelligence tests are unable to measure the different notions of mental capacity. While intelligence tests take into account cognitive abilities that can be used in the individual s everyday environment, it neglected rational thinking which includes sensible decision making or goal prioritising (Glenn, 2009). These are important factors which contribute to the cognitive ability of an individual. For example, a person who scores high on an intelligence test might make poor decisions. The lack of rational thinking, as well as other aspects of cognitive ability, might affect the individual s life in the same way that the factors measured in these intelligence tests do. It is important to also note that many criticize intelligence tests for its lack of comprehensive understanding of intelligence, and they argue that many tests emphasise on only one or two aspects of the concept. However, in recent years, the CHC model, a three stratum test, is generally acknowledged as the foundation for many contemporary intelligence tests (Kranzler Floyd, 2013). This shows how intelligence tests have evolved to bridge the gap between its effectiveness and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 5. Persuasive Essay On Traffic Laws As time progresses, an interest for advancement lingers within individuals, as have with times passed. That is to say, such interest arouses the desire for putting into play several well thought out ideas. Some of which have resulted successful and common within the population. In particular, the invention of the automobile. Nowadays, driving has become one of the most used methods for transportation. In fact, with car technology improving, the amount of drivers seem to further escalate. A Los Angeles Times article states, the number of vehicles on the road reached a record level of almost 253 million, an increase of more than 3.7 million, or 1.5%, (253 Million Cars and Trucks on U.S. Roads). Even though modern technology has opened windows to a new world of possibilities, individuals still take such developments for granted. Drivers thoughtlessly violate traffic laws, which in return, result in a range of consequences. For this reason, citizens should respect laws to avoid getting themselves into trouble and to grow an appreciation for the current way of life. Undoubtedly, transportation hasn t always been as accessible as it is now. For centuries, people have come up with innumerable ways of getting themselves from one location to another. In former times, people would use their available resources for several purposes. In the film October Sky, Homer Hickam the protagonist overcame a sequence of calamities along his journey to become a successful rocket fabricating engineer. He clawed his way out of an unenlightened cave where coal mining was his only fate. • 7. Positive And Non Harmful Rewards On the other hand, you also want to make the positive counter behaviour seem more attractive. You should try to increase the attractiveness of the alternative, good behaviour by rewarding yourself and turning the behaviour in to something more fun. Self control can be quickly improved if you acknowledge the successes you make with little rewards. Humans seek for that positivity rush, the release of dopamine, which can often be the cause for bad behaviours. But instead of getting the rush from checking your Facebook every five minutes, you can seek to turn it around and feel the rewards once you don t check your social media. When it comes to rewarding the right behaviour, the focus should be on positive and non harmful reward. For instance, even if over eating isn t your problem you don t want to replace smoking with eating a cookie, as this can quickly cause you another problem altogether. What could positive and non harmful rewards be? It should be an action you love and it s a good idea to swap between a few ideas, to avoid being stuck with another behaviour. For example, you could go to movies if you avoid being late from work for a whole week. You could buy your favourite magazine or sleep an hour longer on a Sunday morning. At work, you could take ten minutes off to chat with a colleague if you finish a task in a specific amount of time. This, as Wacaster stated himself, was his goal in writing this very commentary. If [Studies in Galatians] serves to give just one precious soul a better understanding of this wonderful letter...then it will have been worth the time spent in preparing and publishing (3, 4). The City of St. Petersburg became victorious in succeeding where Tampa had prevailed so many times before. Similarly, if another customer deposits £400, the bank would have to reserve £80 and may convert the remaining £320 into loans or purchase government securities (Howell Bain, 2008). Nevertheless, it should be noted that the change in the money multiplier depends on the reserve requirement ratio and the public s willingness to deposit currency (Vasudevan, 2003). For instance, when the depositor keeps less currency it will have an effect on deposit as it will be multiplying more. In comparison, if the depositor holds more currency then less multiple deposits will occur (Ireland, 2010). Conversely, the banking system are required to keep a portion of the depositor funds for precautionary circumstances and the rest may be converted in to loans, thereby increasing the available cash by a factor that is a multiple of the initial deposit (Business Dictionary, 2010). For example, assume that the money supply in the economy is £900 billion, the total deposits are £500 billion and the reserved required is 12%. The calculation for mm is the following: In this example above, a £1 increase in Monetary Base/high powered money leads to a £2.20 increase in Money supply. It is assumed that people carry out cognitive and motor tasks by tapping into their task sets. Task set is the cognitive process the brain takes to perform the task. Every time a person multitasks in order to get more stuff done faster they are experiencing task switching. Study on Essential Hypertension PRESENTATION BY: GIZELLE WILKINSON SUBJECT: ESSENTIAL HYPERTENSION STUDENT NUMBER: M00037713 CLINICAL SCIENCES II INTRODUCTION Essential hypertension, otherwise known as primary or idiopathic hypertension, is a condition of raised blood pressure with no identifiable cause. Secondary hypertension occurs when blood pressure elevation results from a specific and potentially treatable cause. These include renal diseases, endocrine causes, congenital cardiovascular causes and pregnancy. This study however, will focus on essential hypertension so as to avoid unnecessary confusion. Blood pressure is relative to each individual and tends to vary markedly depending on height and weight. Levels of blood pressure ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the arteries, there is thickening of each of the layers in the vessel wall, thus narrowing the lumen and reducing its effectiveness. A similar development occurs in the arterioles causing increased rigidity of the walls thus reducing their ability to contract and expand. Hence the lumen size is reduced. As a result, there is slowing down of the blood flow resulting in ischaemia of cell tissue. This then increases the pressure through the vessels and the left ventricular myocardium or heart muscle undergoes hypertrophy. Ischaemic heart disease and left ventricular failure are common results of hypertension in this case. Due to occurrence of the above, the blood vessel in the brain become more fragile and paves the way for haemorrhage. Damage to small blood vessels within the cerebral hemispheres produce microscopic infarctions (localised necrotic areas) appearing as small areas of brain destruction that fill with fluid, otherwise known as hypertensive lacunae. In malignant hypertension the vessels undergo similar changes but more acutely. Therefore the damage is more severe, leading to actual cessation of blood flow through the vessels. This results in multiple areas of tissue necrosis as in the glomeruli of the kidney.

  • 27. Case Study On Instruction Versus Collaboration Case Analysis Instruction versus collaboration Greg Chappell followed an instruction based coaching style, characterised by an authoritarian, dogmatic, dictatorial, my way or the highway coaching style, whereas Gary Kirsten followed a collaborative style, which is more participative and ranges from democratic to laissez faire. The overall results of a research(titled An Integral Approach to Coaching in Elite Sport ) carried out by Paddy Upton) showed a statistically significant difference between the coaches style and the players preferred style, with the players preferring less instruction based coaching and more collaboration (Figure 1). Performance Focus A personal coaching focus has its primary focus on the individual as a person, with their performance as the secondary focus, whilst a performance focus is primarily on sporting performance/behaviour and/or actions, and secondarily on the individual from whom the performance emanates. When coaching for mental toughness in cricket, the focus must be extended to include a personal focus, rather than focusing on performance alone. Gary Kirsten, who represented South Africa in 101 test matches, sums this up; When you walk out in a tight situation on the fifth day of a test match, what is tested is more the person than his skills (Sunday Times, 2004). Greg Chappell followed a rigid strategy. Chappell s critics felt that he lacked the people skills and human touch that were so necessary for a coach to succeed. There was also a feeling that Chappell was much too interested in preserving his own power equation in the team. Also he was insensitive to the pertaining team culture. His experimental approach ended up in disturbing the order and performance of the team members. Good Coaching vs. Bad ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. Visit To The Siesta Keys If you are reading this, it is probably sometime much further in the future than the date on the top of this page. I am writing this letter because I would like to share with you a fond memory of mine. Attached to this letter there should be a collage. I do not know how the environment will be in fifty years (or even later), but I hope it can stay as beautiful as it is now. The scenery depicted in my collage is of a beach in Sarasota, Florida, the Siesta Keys. My first visit to the Keys is one of my most fondest memories because I had never felt sand that was so perfect, I had never seen a sea so blue, and I had never felt the sun at that degree of heat. I do not remember the actual temperature it was that July, but I remember getting light headed ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 29. Reconstruction Of The United States Schutz, Jackson CRN 36889 T/R 9:35 20 September 2015 Reconstructing the Unconstructable Gunshots rang throughout American soil in the year 1861. The seven southern states seceded and formed the Confederate States of America. The remaining northern states were known as the Union. The central issue between the Union and the Confederacy was slavery which led to America s bloodiest war, lasting four years and leaving roughly six hundred thousand people dead. The North was victorious and the South s infrastructure was severely crippled. All slaves were set free and a month before the official end to the war, Lincoln was assassinated, leaving Vice President Andrew Johnson to take over the Presidency. The next task for America to tackle was the South s reconstruction which would continue until 1877. Although reconstruction made the South go through many changes leading to lots of progress, it also had some fallbacks from the resentment present in the South. The 13th Amendment was passed saying, Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction. Upon the emancipation of all black slaves inside the United States, children flocked to newly established schools made possible by missionaries, groups of ex slaves, and even the Freedman s Bureau. Congress set up the Freedman s Bureau to aid black former slaves in the South. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

While filming the movie, which eventually became one of his biggest successes, he fell in love with his on screen wife Michelle Williams. The love sprouted after Williams had injured her knee and Ledger took it upon himself to care for her. Their love grew so quickly that Williams was pregnant before the film was finished. Their child, Matilda was born in October of 2005. The two girls were the loves of his life which he was quite open about. During the following couple years, Heath s fame increased and the demand for his work grew, keeping him away from home more and more. This led to a break in the relationship between him and Michelle. They separated, and this sent Ledger into the darkest place he d ever been. He was crushed and depressed over the fact that he couldn t spend time with his daughter. This depression, coupled with anxiety and insomnia that he had experienced for most of his adult life, led to him taking a plethora of prescription pills to counteract his illnesses. Eventually, this barrage of medications on his body caught up with him, and he passed away due to accidental overdose on January 22, 2008. The story of Ledger s life is saddening to say the least, and just goes to show that mental illness is a silent killer that can take the life of any unsuspecting victim caught in its path (Pendleton, 2008).
