Double Displacement Reaction Lab
Sabrina Torres Mr. Van Ness Chemistry Honors/ Period 6 21 November 2014 Double Replacement
Reactions: A Colorful look at Experimentation Background Information There are many different
ways to categorize reactions, though there is one specific one that s used in this lab, double
displacement reactions. A double displacement, or double replacement or double exchange reactions
(also known by several other names), are ones in which the cations of the reactants are reversed in the
products. A generic formula for this is AB+CD →AD+CB. (Zumdahl). A specific type of double
displacement reactions is also a precipitation reaction. A precipitation reaction occurs when there is

Legalizing Horse Slaughter
People are curious. Its our human nature. Have you ever been curious about the meat you eat? Where
it comes from, how it was killed, and is it safe to eat? In America we eat beef, pork, and poultry for
the average everyday consumption. What about other countries, or other parts of the world? What do
they eat? Your beloved pet, your furry companion, your best friend. Maybe your horse, perhaps. What
is this horse slaughter that people are speaking of? Should it be legal? Yes. It should be legal with
limits. It is most likely that anyone you ask about horse slaughter will have an opinion. Some strongly
believe it is cruel, and inhumane, some believe it is for a good cause, or helping the world. Others just
don t know their facts, or don t care either way. Horse slaughter is the practice of killing and
butchering horses for human consumption or animal foods manufacturing ( Jeras, 1).
A question often thought about is whether or not horse slaughter is humane. If you ask many people,
they will say no. Why isn t it humane?
Here is a couple of things to know. Usually the conditions are unsanitary, and infected with disease.
The horses could have injuries from minor to major from the ride to the slaughter house, or from
entering the slaughter house. The horses could even have had injuries or health issues before loading
into the trailer to begin with. It is definitely questionable as to whether anyone checks up on updated
health check ups on the horses purchased in kill

The Crossing Cormac Mccarthy
The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy takes the reader on a journey through Mexico and South Western
United States through the eyes of the protagonist Billy Parham, a young cowboy who began the story
as young and naive, wishing for an adventure. He finds it when Billy captures the wolf that he and his
father were hunting and, instead of killing the animal, he instead decides to take her back to the
Mexican Mountains. Along the way, he began to deeply care for it and believe that it s a being of great
order that knew what men do not, willing to risk his own life to guarantee her safety (McCarthy 59
60). However, on his trip, Billy and the wolf get caught by Mexican authorities who decide to give the
wolf to a circus. When Billy is released, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From the literary criticism Borders and Boundaries of Religion and the Mind in Cormac McCarthy s
The Crossing by Susan Rojas, the ex priest was seen to exemplify characteristics that made him both a
foundation of the novel s spiritual core and an example of how crossing a border of the mind can lead
to negative effects. While Billy crossing one of his mental boundaries made him harsher, it allowed
him to survive in the harsh environments he was in. However, for the ex priest, the mental boundaries
was what kept him sane and with purpose. Rojas states how the ex priest illustrates the paradox of the
boundaries and borders of the mind as these mental boundaries are necessary evils because they
provide the rigidity needed for a seeking mind and can liberate and free the mind through containment
(Rojas 2). The ex priest continuously crosses these borders and boundaries which allow him to
become more and more aware of his own life and the actions he takes (7). The ex priest realized that
he had conflicts over which religion he belonged to, Catholic or Mormonism, as he states that I am a
Mormon. Or I was, showing that he was not sure where he belonged, and continuously phasing from a
religion to another, crossing mental borders continuously (Rojas 8, McCarthy 140). These continuous
mental crosses between two boundaries made him lose sanity as his religious life was boundless,
unmanaged, making it hard for him to understand his true purpose, as seen in the literary criticism by
Peter Mundik, The Illusion of Proximity: The Ex:Priest and the Heretic in Cormac McCarthy s THE
CROSSING: Book II (Mundik). This proves the idea that crossing mental boundaries leads to
unchangeable mental alterations that may benefit or hurt a person. While Billy s crossing of his mental
boundary was only temporary

Odysseus Sirens
Aigul Samb Professor Avra Spector Great Works November 31, 2014 The Silence of the Siren In the
short story The Silence of the Sirens , Kafka rewrites the myth of how Odysseus escapes the sirens in
his own distinctive way. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s Odysseus with their
alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting, myths concerning them. This
ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical appearance and symbolic significance of
sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800 years ago. It is also another reason it served to be a
rich material for Kafka s own brand of ambiguous and complex fiction. In Homer s work Odysseus
took actions that are quite different than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus
manages to escape the sirens.. The first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious:
Kafka s sirens are conspicuously silent. Silence is described here as a weapon far more prevailing than
song, and the Kafka adds that even if it were possible to survive exposure to the song of the sirens,
their silence is something from which no man could possibly escape. The implication is that ... Show

The part of the story I really want to focus on is the second half, beginning half way through the third
paragraph. As Odysseus ship passes the sirens island, he ceases to be aware of them, as he fixes his
gaze on the distance . This far sightedness is usually a characteristic attributed to the sirens
themselves, their muse like wisdom precluding knowledge of the present moment, and yet Kafka
attributes it to

CASE : SADAFCO
What are the strategies and business models of SADAFCO and the MNCs?
SADAFCO in accordance to other MNC:s managed to diversify their business in order to maintain
and possibly also strengthen their position within their industry. SADAFCO went from initially being
a milk producer to becoming a producer of other food products that had a similar production process
as their milk production. They managed to successfully take advantage of synergy effects and scale
economies and did so by reallocating production. The diversification strategy was a respond to a
decline in the milk market. SASAFCO, already being an established actor on the food market did not
want to loose momentum. On the contrary they wanted to become ... Show more content on

By entering in to such an agreement with the local distributors, that in the Middle East play a very
important role on the market, they managed to create entry barriers for competitors. The other MNCs
such as Nestlé tried to penetrate the market by focusing on other distribution channels such as
supermarkets. They fought over the best shelf space and they had high marketing expenses. Initially
their products were not as successful as they had hoped and they quickly realized that they had to
adapt to the local conditions and local preferences that differed a lot from the western ones.
Why have MNCs entered the ice cream market recently?
Saudi Arabia and the Middle Eastern region offered a high potential for the sales of ice cream. The
climate and the demographics (large number of children) were optimal for ice cream consumption.
Also the consumption patterns of the Middle East were getting more and more similar to the ones of
the western world, which meant that there was a large growth potential on the market.
What strategy should SADAFCO follow?
The Middle East and Saudi Arabia are an emerging market with a great potential. The consumer
patterns are changing and the special local conditions are becoming more and more erased. The
Middle East is changing towards a more global environment and their consumer patterns are shifting

Literary Devices In Llake By William Blake
Jerusalem by William Blake, the title of this poem, references the city of Jerusalem. The holy land for
the Christian and Islamic religion. William Blake was religious during his lifetime (as it showed in
many of his poems) and it was said that he had visions of god and archangels in his childhood. So as
simple as the title may seem, it symbolizes the ideas that Blake had towards religion. Blake might also
talk about how England invaded Jerusalem, and it would depend on his viewpoint, if he thinks of it
positively, or something that goes against his beliefs. It could also be an ode to Jerusalem, as
previously mentioned, William Blake was very religious and this poem could demonstrate his
appreciation towards God.

Evaluation Of A Client With A Potential For Ppd
Timing is key! It is outstanding to know that PPD is definitely treatable, especially when caught early.
Two well known assessments can be used when evaluating a client with a potential for PPD; these two
tests are the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) and the Postpartum Depression Screening
Scale (PDSS). The EPDS is used as a screening assessment tool, not a diagnostic tool; It is used to
pull out women who may need follow up care. This assessment should be completed preferably twice,
but at least once. The best time is 6 to 12 weeks after birth. It is a pivotal point that the nurse explains
when utilizing this tool that it is not referring to just the current day, but to the previous seven days.

These groups should be geared towards the mother developing skills to take care of her newborn and
teaching the new mother how to cope (Moshki, Baloochi, Cheravi, 2014). It is also helpful to set goals
that will include positive reinforcement from the nursing group (Moshki, 2014). With good
observation, the nurse has the opportunity to recognize difficulties the new mother may be
experiencing (Cavalcanti, Marques, Guimaraes, de Oliveira Mangueira, da Silva Frazao, Perrilli,
2014) What Should be Done Next A way to significantly decrease issues from PPD is for the nurse to
make weekly phone calls or postpartum home visits; this could potentially save the life of the newborn
or the mother herself (Lowdermilk, 2016). The nurse should also work closely with the family to
ensure all areas are covered; for the areas that are not, the nurse should encourage the family and
friends of the mother to help out until she has gotten through this tough time. Not only is the new
mother experiencing changes, but the partner is also. The nurse should provide opportunities that are
nonjudgmental for the partner to express their concerns and feelings, strategies for coping, and
motivation to continue support the mother (Lowdermilk, 2016). As long as the mother and infant
remain safe hospitalization can be avoided. The nurse can also recommend some of the many
community resources such as child care that is temporary, homemaker services,

Ridicule And Terrorism
In J. Michael Waller s, Ridicule: An Instrument in the War on Terrorism, the main idea presented is
that ridicule should be used as a war strategy against terrorism. Ridicule can be used in several
instances. These instances are as follows, ridicule raises morale at home, ridicule strips the
enemy/adversary of his mystique and prestige, ridicule erodes the enemy s claim to justice, ridicule
eliminates the enemy s image of invincibility, and directed properly at an enemy, ridicule can be a fate
worse than death. Ridicule and humor play an important part in the way the government is run. Waller
quotes John Cleese, If I can get you to laugh with me, you like me better, which makes you more open
to my ideas. The more comfortable an individual or politician feels around the person trying to
influence them, the more likely it will be that they will side with their opinion. The reason why
ridicule is so effective is that it leverages the emotions and implies the complicated and takes on the
powerful, in politics, business, law, entertainment, literature, culture, sports, and romance. The
instances aforementioned are thoroughly explained by Waller by using lengthy factual and historical
examples. Ridicule can be used as both an offensive and a defensive war strategy. Dictators, tyrants,
and those who aspire to seize and keep power by intimidation and force can tolerate no public ridicule.
In order to maintain their intimidating appearance, leaders suppress ridicule and

Analysis Of The 12 Labours Of Hercules
The twelve labours of Hercules is a myth because it is a story passed down all the way to today s
generation, making it be a traditional tale. Hercules is originally a Roman god; however, it is similar to
the Greek s version of Heracles. This myth is originally from the Latin language which is typically
used by the Romans. The twelve labours of Hercules was originally written by Peisanders and was
then lost in 600 B.C. Hercules was born a demigod with supernatural powers that established the
patterns of life as we know it. According to Synnøve Des Bouvrie and Bascom s definition, the 12
labours of Hercules is a myth because it is traditional, remote, and true. One thing that makes the
twelve labours of Hercules a myth is that it is true. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ideologies are crucial and meaningful in the culture. This myth has etiology because of the second
religious rights that celebrated Demeter and Persephone which for any reason allowed happiness in
the underworld, if we re Hercules were to die during the fight with Cerberus (54C.E:146 147). The
myth provides the fact that it is true, based on a faith s structure. Another thing that makes the twelve
labours of Hercules a myth is because it s traditional. The explanation of why it is believed to be
traditional because Hercules was a demigod and was, therefore, tide in their beliefs in the past which
is a key component of myth(2002: 22). It was considered to be a normal human experience, where
gods, goddesses, and demigods were seen as normal and passed down through their faith. These
historical events are so people could maintain contact with their ancestors. The 12 labors that Hercules
was given was because he wanted the gods to forgive him of his horrendous crimes, and it was known
in their faith/religion to ask the gods for amnesty(54C.E.:36 37). The traditional tell the myth is retold
many years later and has become well known. That also makes his story a tradition, as a tradition is
described as something that has been done consistently for the past hundred years or more. Hercules
has been told and retold for far

Human Impacts That Are Placed On The Beaches And Coast Of...
The topic I have chosen for the assignment is the human impacts that are placed on the beaches and
coast of Warrnambool, namely areas around the Merri Island Sanctuary. This also incorporates
locations including Stingray bay, the breakwater, Shelly beach and Middle Island.
Warrnambool is known for it s many diverse areas of coastline with many unique beaches; this then
brings in various groups of people and tourists in the interest of seeing the beaches or for recreational
water activities to Warrnambool. This tourism is positive for Warrnambool economically, but can
place a negative effect on the beach environment and the ecosystem.
Locations such as the Merri Marine Sanctuary and the area around Shelly beach include a diverse
ecosystem and reef area where many rock pools are noted. (Parks Victoria, 2007) Many people come
down here to look at the rock pools, but this could harm the invertebrates seen in the reef, as not
everyone is aware of this, especially tourists and children. This could include to trampling and picking
up creatures, which puts stress on them, some being more vulnerable, then others. It is known that in
an environment, anything within it should not be moved as to not make a footprint on that area and
within the sanctuary it is not allowed. Within all of these areas, pollution is a huge impact on the
environment, which is clearly noticeable. Plastics and clothing have been noted in these reef areas that
could harm or kill invertebrates. Without humans

Antitrust Laws And The Federal Branch Of The United States...
The role of antitrust laws has been the subject of numerous publications that have attempted to
provide a precise set of reasons and inspirations for their creation. However, there are still many
schools of thought on the subject and much debate over the effectiveness and legitimate
implementation of these laws. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal branch
of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at antitrust
laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a manner that a
newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern technology and business
practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust laws is more complex than
many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by monopolies, the sentiment
ranges widely.
Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by
preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business
practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when
monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services
being provided may not be very good. Turmoil in the national economy during the 1870 s and 1880 s
necessitated the development of trust that would stabilize individual industries. This would later

Essay on Voting Behavior in the United Kingdom
Voting Behavior in the United Kingdom
When voting, people are usually going to vote for their own personal well being. Although voters may
agree that there should be improved services for everyone, when it comes to voting, it is likely they
will vote for what is best for them personally I.e. lower tax. This is known as issue voting. E.g.
whether a candidate will support a ban on fox hunting. It is agreed that issues do have an effect on
voting but the significance of an issue in contributing to electoral swing depends on three factors.
First, how important the issue is to the voters, second, which party is preferred and by how much and
third how these factors have changed since the last election. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

By party identification, political scientists mean a psychological attachment to a party rather than a
rational choice based on the party s aims, promises or practises. It has a lot to do with a party s public
image which is also a big deciding factor amongst non partisan voters.
The media has a lot to do with a party s image, as it is the main and often only way many people
receive information about politics. The media in Britain is free, and is not controlled by the
government, meaning broadcasters are able to decide the content of political broadcasts. However
guidelines issued by the IBA and BBC ensures political balance and impartiality. A channel will
normally present balanced argument by using representatives of different political parties or groups.
How a party is perceived through the media is vital for gaining public support. The national press
often shows strong party bias. Many people read newspapers and until recently many actively
supported the Conservative Party and urged readers to vote Conservative. Tabloid newspapers tend to
be highly partisan with news, opinion and party propaganda mixed together. Many national
newspapers since 1997 have supported labour , one of the biggest shifts being in the Sun s support.
It is through the media that a party s public image is formed. Voter perceptions of the competence or
personality of a party

Gender Socialization Paper
Gender roles are categories that characterize what it means to be feminine and masculine in society, on
how people think about gender as they relate to one another (Adams et al., 2013). For example,
women are expected to be accommodating and emotional, while men are usually expected to be self
confident and aggressive, this shows how men and women are to behave in society. However, these
sayings were taught to individuals based on norms, or standards created by a society which is called
Gender Socialization (p. 318). Growing up as a child, we were taught as girls to play with dollhouses,
pretend kitchen sets, cleaning supplies and play dress up. Whereas boys are taught to play with cars,
sports equipment s, action figures, and weapons. However, if a boy was playing with dollhouses, or
playing dress up, he would be considered gay, or not masculine and looked down upon by society, and
families. The same goes for girls who play with boy toys, or dresses as a tomboy, this is what we are
taught to play with at a young age. Our families tell us how to behave, our schools tell us what ...

Bay Of Fundy
In the Bay of Fundy the incoming tidal waters can overpower the flow of estuaries and rivers. This
extraordinary phenomenon is known as a tidal bore and occurs twice daily. At high tide, a massive
volume of seawater floods out of the Bay of Fundy into the rivers which feed it. The narrowing
riverbanks force the soaring waters in a amazing surge and often a visible standing wave, in some
cases 1 meter (3 feet) tall! In addition, 3 to 3.5 meters (10 12 feet) high rapids are generated in the
wake of the roaring and swirling tidal water as it charges upstream at speeds near 15 kilometers per

Metacarpal Veins
The systemic circulation consists of the arterial and the venous systems.
Arteries are a high pressure system and a pulse can be palpated. The muscle layer in arteries is
stronger and they will not collapse like veins. Arteries are also deeper than veins and are surrounded
by nerve endings, making arterial puncture painful.
The venous system consists of superficial and deep veins. The superficial or cutaneous veins are those
used for venipuncture. Because thrombosis of the superficial veins of the lower extremities can easily
extend to the deep veins, it is important to avoid the use of these veins. Superficial veins are bluish in
color. The pressure within veins is low and therefore a pulse will not be palpated in a vein.

If large enough they may accommodate a small gauge needle, however they are used as a last resort.
Metacarpal Veins:
The metacarpal veins are formed by the union of the digital veins. They are usually visible, lie flat on
the hand, are easy to feel, and are easily accessible. The hand provides a flat surface for stabilization
and as this vein is in the extremity it allows successive venipunctures to be performed above the site.
These veins may therefore be the first choice for venipuncture.
Cephalic Vein:
The cephalic vein flows upward along the radial aspect of the forearm. Its size readily accommodates
a large needle, while its position provides easy access and natural splinting. This vein can be accessed
from the wrist to the upper arm (using the most distal region of the vein first). These veins tend to roll
so anchoring the vein during venipuncture essential.
Accessory Cephalic Vein:
The accessory cephalic vein ascends the arm and joins the cephalic vein below the elbow. Its large size
accommodates a large needle.

Carbon 14
Science Report
Carbon 14
Within this report I will be analysing carbon 14 a radioisotope. A radioisotope is a radioactive isotope
and isotopes are atoms that have the same number of protons but different number of neutrons in their
nuclei. Carbon 14 is a radioisotope of the element carbon.
Structure of Carbon 14
The diagram above shows the structure of carbon 14. Carbon 14 has six protons in the nucleus and six
neutrons, giving carbon 14 an atomic mass of 12. It also has an extra two neutrons which makes the
total eight neutrons. Carbon 14 also has two shells, shell one consist of two electrons and shell two
contains four electrons. This makes Carbon 14 a radioactive atom as it is unstable.

Student Loans Analysis
Dependent students are allowed to borrow $32,000in federal loans over the course of their
undergraduate career. For those deemed sufficiently needy, $23,000 of this total can take the form of
subsidized loans. A student cannot take out this full amount in a single year; there are also annual
limits on borrowing (of $2,625 to $7,500 depending upon the student s undergraduate standing)
(Financial Aid Office, 2013). Another change of student loans program is the introduction of revised
PLUS loans in 1992 that taking out the $4,000 cap, parents were allowed to borrow up to the full cost
of attendance, including room and board for full time students. Regardless of need, these loans are
open to the parents of all college students. Requiring a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Regarding to the rising college cost, a variety of ways of recognition and interpretation have pushed
this issue to be heard and paid attention to. To different people, rising tuition could mean different
things: it could mean the shrinking public resources institutions now have and the higher requirement
for institution efficiency; people may relate it to affordability of college education and narrowed
access to college education for low income or underrepresented minority students; it may notify
institutions to increase financial aid expenditure to accommodate the rising tuition; and to the clients
of higher education, they connect higher price to higher expectations for quality. Institution leaders

Asian History in Canada Essays
Asian History in Canada
Around the mid 19th to early 20th centuries, British Columbia was in a period of economic explosion.
Those who were willing to work hard could find many opportunities. At this time, gold was found in
British Columbia and Canada became dependent on workers to finish making the transcontinental
railway. Many lumbering, coal mining and fishing business were not experiencing enough growth to
match the needs of the society. This portrayed Canada as a place of opportunity and settlement for
Asians whose homelands were becoming overcrowded. Sadly, the early pioneer years were extremely
difficult for Asian immigrants due to the extensive racism and barriers keeping them from full

Their historical arrival marked the establishment of a continuous Chinese community in Canada.
While the Fraser Gold Rush is the one that drew Chinese north, it was during the Cariboo Gold Rush
that the first Chinese community, called The Hong Shun Tang, was established in Canada in the gold
mining town of Barkerville. In the 1860s, Barkerville was a booming town. Thousands of prospectors
came to the town, many of them from the U.S. At the peak of the gold rush, there were as many as
5,000 Chinese living in Barkerville. Unfortunately, the Chinese were not allowed to prospect in areas
other than abandoned sites. This was due to discrimination towards Asians at that time. On account of
this fact, the Chinese did not make the same fortunes as the whites did. Nonetheless, the Chinese still
managed to find a way to thrive as a community. They provided many services to as many as 20,000
prospectors that came into the Barkerville region in the 1860s. Between 1860 and 1870, besides
mining, Chinese pioneers also worked on many other projects in British Columbia and Vancouver
Island. Some of the jobs included the erection of telegraph poles, the construction of the 607
kilometers Caribou Wagon Road and the digging of canals and reclaiming of wastelands. The Chinese
were major contributors to the development of Canadian society, but were never recognized as such.
Even while facing many daily hardships, they did

Proscenium and Concert
Title: Planning a concert particularly its facilities
Thesis statement: A concert would not be possible without considering the importance of an organized
and well equipped facility.
Successful concerts are what performers and organizer and audiences all hope for. This not only
means the thoughtful programming of quality music, but also a smoothly run performance and
production. Therefore, a lot of planning and making sure that everything is in order is the key to a
successful all out concert (Hudson, 2012). According to Vertudez, one of our interviewees, Planning
ahead of time [is the most important thing in organizing an event]. There could be some difficulties in

Currently, the Philippines has only two main concert venues that can occupy 10, 000 people
specifically, the Smart Araneta Coliseum and the SM Mall of Asia Arena. In 2014, the Philippine
Arena is expected to be opened in Bulacan. Even if it is being built by a religious congregation, the
said venue can still be available for other big events for it has 50, 000 sitting capacity. These venues
have comfortable seats and strict policies which make them best concert venues in the city. They have
more available facilities than open concert grounds because of sufficient air conditioning systems and
well maintained toilets. All of these are considered to put up concert facilities (Concepcion, 2011).
In order for a concert to be possible, it is necessary to need a committee. It is an important factor to
consider having to appoint a management team to ensure that the facilities in the concert are in good
condition. Furthermore, the team responsible in organizing the facilities should also be divided into
specific sections. For instance in the checking of acoustics, taking care of the number of seats as well
as the arrangement of it, decorating the whole venue and also the people who will be responsible for
cleaning the venue after the event. To greatly ensure and to be able to control the whole production,
setting up meetings regularly would absolutely help. Weeks or even months before the actual event,
everything should all be planned and set upped. Considering

Operations management is based on short term planning and objectives, utilizing resources of the
company upto optimum level e.g proper employment of human resources, material and other fixed
non current assets. Above mentioned methods are being put into practice at McDonald?s to achieve
the desired goals and objectives both long term and short term.
In strategic management only top level managers participate in formulation of long term planning and
objectives, whereas top to bottom managers participate in operation management to achieve the set
goals and objectives in line with decisions taken in strategic management. Only effective
implementation of operations management can ensure achievement of long term goals and objectives.
McDonald?s has effectively employed different skills and techniques for the achievement of long term

Literary Techniques Used In Joni Mitchell s Song Big...
In the song Big Yellow Taxi Joni Mitchell utilizes poetic devices such as irony, oxymoron and rhyme
to convey the cruel ways that the environment is exploited. Joni uses irony in the second stanza of Big
yellow Taxi to shine light on the exploitation of the environment for financial profit. She writes they
took all the trees and put them in a tree museum, then they charged the people just a dollar and a half
just to see em. Trees come from nature and can be enjoyed by all, however by placing trees in a
museum and charging admission for individuals to enjoy it the trees are now in an unexpected
environment and become an exclusive object. The irony of the stanza may create a humorous effect to
listeners because it is contrary to what

Employee Rights in the Workplace
Abstract Our world of technological advances is growing day by day. So much so, in fact, that new
laws are created to help determine the legal responsibilities and actions to be taken if an incident
occurs. The advantages and disadvantages of monitoring and being monitored will be discussed. Some
of the laws that represent the employer and employee as well as why an employer would want to
monitor an employee will also are discussed. Although employee monitoring is beneficial to an
employer for a variety of reasons, it is better for an employer to leave an employees private life away
from the workplace private.

(¶6) A second reason would be to track the amount of time an employee spends away from the
computer or how long the employees computer is idle. (¶6).
If we, as employees put ourselves in the employer s shoes, we would want to know if our employees
were being productive for the job that they were hired to do. If someone were to perform a search on
the Internet for employee monitoring tools, he or she would find that the market is flooded with these
types of tools. In 1993, there were an estimated 27 million worldwide employees being monitoring in
the workplace and that number is still growing (¶8).
Advantages and Disadvantages of Monitoring Some of the advantages of employee monitoring are
that email use can be limited, viruses can be prevented from corrupting company computer systems,
inappropriate acts and uses of language can be intercepted before any harm is done, and companies
can stop leaks of proprietary information. Some of the disadvantages of employee monitoring are, as
stated earlier, an employees feeling of lack of trust, a feeling of no privacy at work, and the possibility
of employers being sued by employees for fear that their privacy has been violated. One type of
violation that can occur happened to a Massachusetts college secretary while she was changing clothes
in a place she thought was safe. (Kitchen, 2006). She felt violated because her boss never informed
her that she was being videotaped.

Donald Super Theory
In 1980, Donald Super introduced a theory that described career development in terms of life stages
and life roles. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career
development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super s
developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in
creating one s self concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career
development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement.
He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student,
leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and
professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his archway of career determinants
detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics
(labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career
development. Super s Life and Career Development Stages Donald Super s theory of career
development focuses on the different stages people progress through as they go through life, and how
these stages correlate with important events and career choices. During growth (birth 14 years), people
grow physically and begin to form ideas of their self worth. During this time, many people

The Challenges, Solutions, Models, Tools And Tools
Introduction
This paper presents a systematic literature review of the challenges, solutions, models, tools and an
example in Distributed Software Development (DSD). The objective is to collect and systematize
reported knowledge in terms of what are the difficulties in managing DSD projects, what are the best
practices to overcome these difficulties, and how existing models and tools support these practices.
The DSD is a phenomenon with considerable interest from companies all over the world where the
stakeholders from different national and organizational cultures are involved in developing software.
As part of the globalization efforts currently pervading society, software project team members have
become geographically distributed. However, DSD is technologically and organizationally complex
and presents a variety of challenges to be managed by the software development team. [1]
As distributed environments have become the norm for software development, coordinating the efforts
of development teams has become one of the biggest challenges faced by the enterprise today. It is
hard to imagine any sizable development project managed without an underlying software
configuration management tool.Teams situated at different geographical locations, including offshore,
collaborate using communication technologies to develop interrelated software modules that are
integrated in shared project workspaces. The software design process involves many iterative cycles of

Sigmund Freud s An Outline Of Psychoanalysis
Theory The first pioneer, on the psychoanalyst front that acknowledged the significance of
unconscious cerebral functioning, was Sigmund Freud. He invented the term psychoanalysis in 1896,
and continuously developed the primary basics, aims, approaches and the methods relating to his
study of psychoanalysis , which he spent forty years of his life on after introducing the term in 1896.
Freud s work relates to several different topics within his field, to name a few Freud has dealt with, as
well as, published work on dream interpretation, the technique of psychoanalysis, as well as the
structural theory of the mind (Beystehner). In 1925 Freud s notions of psychoanalysis as a successful

Freud starts by clarifying the personality model he developed, which consists of the id, the ego, and
the superego (Beystehner). According to Freud, the id is the most unsophisticated and primitive part of
our entity (Storey), additionally, the unconscious part of the id is due to the brain s ability to suppress
instincts that people are born with, as well as things that are retained from birth. The ego is the
conscious part of the mind, as opposed to the id, which is the part of the mind that is in charge of
restraining pressures and the instincts within it. The ego is in charge of controlling impulses, and it
also to functions as a connection between the id and the outside population (Beystehner). The ego is
developed out of the id, and symbolizes sensibleness and soundness of mind as opposed to the
passions of the id (Storey). Lastly, the superego is in charge of managing orders from the id, as well
as, managing the restraints of pleasure and fulfillment achieved. The superego also depicts the impact
and sway people in authoritative positions, such as parents, teachers, and role models, as well as the
impact of racial, societal, and cultural traditions (Beystehner)

JD Salinger Criticism
JD Salinger s Criticism on American Society During the 1950 s, America was prospering after the
second World War. According to History.com, The United States was the world s strongest military
power. Its economy was booming, and the fruits of this prosperity new cars, suburban houses and
other consumer goods were available to more people than ever before (History.com Staff). More jobs
were becoming available, decreasing the unemployment rate. Despite having all the success, America
faced many problems as a country. One of the most popular novels of the time, The Cather In The Rye
written by JD Salinger, discussed the flaws in the society Americans had failed to realize. The book is
about a journey of a teen named Holden Caufield who was expelled from his school for failing most
of his courses. He leaves to New York early but waits at a hotel until the winter break, hoping his
parents will not get as angry as they would. During his time in New York, he drinks alcohol heavily to
soothe his depression. Later, he was sent to a mental institution to treat his depression and as a therapy,
Holden writes about his adventure in New York. Throughout the novel, J.D. Salinger criticized many
aspects of American Society specifically conformity and the oppression of teenage freedom in the
1950 s. J.D. Salinger strongly opposed conformity within the American society. During the 1950s,
Americans were following these norms of behaving in the same way as one another. For example,

Anit- Sex Human Trafficking Laws
What if you could have sex 40 times a day? It may sound pretty glorious to most, but for the victims
of human trafficking, this is a horrendous reality. According to the Polaris Project, 244,000 children
were at risk to be sexually exploited because of human trafficking in 2000. It is obvious that sex
trafficking is a problem all over the world, and many Americans do not believe that it is happening
right in their backyard. In fact, between one and three hundred thousand people are at risk of being
abducted and forced in to the sex trade every year and, in numerous cases, women in the prostitution
business entered it at a young age: around 12 to 14 years of age, the New York Times Found. Over the
past few months and years, thirty nine states have passed anti human trafficking laws that aid victims
of human trafficking as victims as such, not as prostitutes. In Illinois, for example, prostitution is no
longer a felony. Furthermore, a minor is unable to be charged with prostitution, even as a
misdemeanor; seeing as in more cases than not, these minors are victims of trafficking. In accordance
with these laws, the focus is on arresting traffickers and the customers of prostitutes. Some cases in
Chicago and surrounding areas have resulted in the johns having to pay a fine after being caught
attempting to solicit sex, and may even have had their cars impounded. In many states, a major part of
the anti sex trafficking laws that were recently passed entail that those found to

Double Displacement Reaction Lab Sabrina Torres Mr. Van Ness Chemistry Honors/ Period 6 21 November 2014 Double Replacement Reactions: A Colorful look at Experimentation Background Information There are many different ways to categorize reactions, though there is one specific one that s used in this lab, double displacement reactions. A double displacement, or double replacement or double exchange reactions (also known by several other names), are ones in which the cations of the reactants are reversed in the products. A generic formula for this is AB+CD →AD+CB. (Zumdahl). A specific type of double displacement reactions is also a precipitation reaction. • 3. Legalizing Horse Slaughter People are curious. Its our human nature. Have you ever been curious about the meat you eat? Where it comes from, how it was killed, and is it safe to eat? In America we eat beef, pork, and poultry for the average everyday consumption. What about other countries, or other parts of the world? What do they eat? Your beloved pet, your furry companion, your best friend. Maybe your horse, perhaps. What is this horse slaughter that people are speaking of? Should it be legal? Yes. It should be legal with limits. It is most likely that anyone you ask about horse slaughter will have an opinion. Some strongly believe it is cruel, and inhumane, some believe it is for a good cause, or helping the world. Others just don t know their facts, or don t care either way. Horse slaughter is the practice of killing and butchering horses for human consumption or animal foods manufacturing ( Jeras, 1). A question often thought about is whether or not horse slaughter is humane. If you ask many people, they will say no. Why isn t it humane? Here is a couple of things to know. Usually the conditions are unsanitary, and infected with disease. The horses could have injuries from minor to major from the ride to the slaughter house, or from entering the slaughter house. The horses could even have had injuries or health issues before loading into the trailer to begin with. It is definitely questionable as to whether anyone checks up on updated health check ups on the horses purchased in kill ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. The Crossing Cormac Mccarthy The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy takes the reader on a journey through Mexico and South Western United States through the eyes of the protagonist Billy Parham, a young cowboy who began the story as young and naive, wishing for an adventure. He finds it when Billy captures the wolf that he and his father were hunting and, instead of killing the animal, he instead decides to take her back to the Mexican Mountains. Along the way, he began to deeply care for it and believe that it s a being of great order that knew what men do not, willing to risk his own life to guarantee her safety (McCarthy 59 60). However, on his trip, Billy and the wolf get caught by Mexican authorities who decide to give the wolf to a circus. When Billy is released, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From the literary criticism Borders and Boundaries of Religion and the Mind in Cormac McCarthy s The Crossing by Susan Rojas, the ex priest was seen to exemplify characteristics that made him both a foundation of the novel s spiritual core and an example of how crossing a border of the mind can lead to negative effects. While Billy crossing one of his mental boundaries made him harsher, it allowed him to survive in the harsh environments he was in. However, for the ex priest, the mental boundaries was what kept him sane and with purpose. Rojas states how the ex priest illustrates the paradox of the boundaries and borders of the mind as these mental boundaries are necessary evils because they provide the rigidity needed for a seeking mind and can liberate and free the mind through containment (Rojas 2). The ex priest continuously crosses these borders and boundaries which allow him to become more and more aware of his own life and the actions he takes (7). The ex priest realized that he had conflicts over which religion he belonged to, Catholic or Mormonism, as he states that I am a Mormon. Or I was, showing that he was not sure where he belonged, and continuously phasing from a religion to another, crossing mental borders continuously (Rojas 8, McCarthy 140). These continuous mental crosses between two boundaries made him lose sanity as his religious life was boundless, unmanaged, making it hard for him to understand his true purpose, as seen in the literary criticism by Peter Mundik, The Illusion of Proximity: The Ex:Priest and the Heretic in Cormac McCarthy s THE CROSSING: Book II (Mundik). This proves the idea that crossing mental boundaries leads to unchangeable mental alterations that may benefit or hurt a person. While Billy s crossing of his mental boundary was only temporary ... • 5. Odysseus Sirens Aigul Samb Professor Avra Spector Great Works November 31, 2014 The Silence of the Siren In the short story The Silence of the Sirens , Kafka rewrites the myth of how Odysseus escapes the sirens in his own distinctive way. The sirens are best known for failing to trick Homer s Odysseus with their alluring song, but there exist numerous other, occasionally conflicting, myths concerning them. This ambiguity contributed to various interpretation of physical appearance and symbolic significance of sirens ever since it was composed by Homer 2800 years ago. It is also another reason it served to be a rich material for Kafka s own brand of ambiguous and complex fiction. In Homer s work Odysseus took actions that are quite different than described by Kafka. However, in both stories Odysseus manages to escape the sirens.. The first element that s worth depicting is perhaps the most obvious: Kafka s sirens are conspicuously silent. Silence is described here as a weapon far more prevailing than song, and the Kafka adds that even if it were possible to survive exposure to the song of the sirens, their silence is something from which no man could possibly escape. The implication is that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The part of the story I really want to focus on is the second half, beginning half way through the third paragraph. Initially their products were not as successful as they had hoped and they quickly realized that they had to adapt to the local conditions and local preferences that differed a lot from the western ones. Why have MNCs entered the ice cream market recently? Saudi Arabia and the Middle Eastern region offered a high potential for the sales of ice cream. The climate and the demographics (large number of children) were optimal for ice cream consumption. William Blake was religious during his lifetime (as it showed in many of his poems) and it was said that he had visions of god and archangels in his childhood. So as simple as the title may seem, it symbolizes the ideas that Blake had towards religion. Blake might also talk about how England invaded Jerusalem, and it would depend on his viewpoint, if he thinks of it positively, or something that goes against his beliefs. • 9. Ridicule And Terrorism In J. Michael Waller s, Ridicule: An Instrument in the War on Terrorism, the main idea presented is that ridicule should be used as a war strategy against terrorism. Ridicule can be used in several instances. These instances are as follows, ridicule raises morale at home, ridicule strips the enemy/adversary of his mystique and prestige, ridicule erodes the enemy s claim to justice, ridicule eliminates the enemy s image of invincibility, and directed properly at an enemy, ridicule can be a fate worse than death. Ridicule and humor play an important part in the way the government is run. Waller quotes John Cleese, If I can get you to laugh with me, you like me better, which makes you more open to my ideas. The more comfortable an individual or politician feels around the person trying to influence them, the more likely it will be that they will side with their opinion. The reason why ridicule is so effective is that it leverages the emotions and implies the complicated and takes on the powerful, in politics, business, law, entertainment, literature, culture, sports, and romance. The instances aforementioned are thoroughly explained by Waller by using lengthy factual and historical examples. Ridicule can be used as both an offensive and a defensive war strategy. Hercules is originally a Roman god; however, it is similar to the Greek s version of Heracles. This myth is originally from the Latin language which is typically used by the Romans. The twelve labours of Hercules was originally written by Peisanders and was then lost in 600 B.C. Hercules was born a demigod with supernatural powers that established the patterns of life as we know it. The myth provides the fact that it is true, based on a faith s structure. Another thing that makes the twelve labours of Hercules a myth is because it s traditional. The explanation of why it is believed to be traditional because Hercules was a demigod and was, therefore, tide in their beliefs in the past which is a key component of myth(2002: 22). The topic I have chosen for the assignment is the human impacts that are placed on the beaches and coast of Warrnambool, namely areas around the Merri Island Sanctuary. This also incorporates locations including Stingray bay, the breakwater, Shelly beach and Middle Island. Warrnambool is known for it s many diverse areas of coastline with many unique beaches; this then brings in various groups of people and tourists in the interest of seeing the beaches or for recreational water activities to Warrnambool. This tourism is positive for Warrnambool economically, but can place a negative effect on the beach environment and the ecosystem. Locations such as the Merri Marine Sanctuary and the area around Shelly beach include a diverse ecosystem and reef area where many rock pools are noted. (Parks Victoria, 2007) Many people come down here to look at the rock pools, but this could harm the invertebrates seen in the reef, as not everyone is aware of this, especially tourists and children. This could include to trampling and picking up creatures, which puts stress on them, some being more vulnerable, then others. It is known that in an environment, anything within it should not be moved as to not make a footprint on that area and within the sanctuary it is not allowed. Within all of these areas, pollution is a huge impact on the environment, which is clearly noticeable. Plastics and clothing have been noted in these reef areas that could harm or kill invertebrates. • 13. Antitrust Laws And The Federal Branch Of The United States... The role of antitrust laws has been the subject of numerous publications that have attempted to provide a precise set of reasons and inspirations for their creation. However, there are still many schools of thought on the subject and much debate over the effectiveness and legitimate implementation of these laws. This paper analyzes the three main antitrust laws that the federal branch of the United States government uses to try to restrict monopolies. This paper also looks at antitrust laws in the modern business environment, and attempts to relay the information in a manner that a newcomer to the subject will understand the concept as it relates to modern technology and business practices. The findings of this paper indicate that the topic of antitrust laws is more complex than many believe and, depending on the position of the person affected by monopolies, the sentiment ranges widely. Antitrust Laws The main purpose of antitrust laws is to promote competition in the markets by preventing monopolies. They also protect consumers and other businesses from unfair business practices and collusion among companies. The thought behind this is that consumers are hurt when monopolies exist because they have fewer choices, the price is likely to be higher, and the services being provided may not be very good. Turmoil in the national economy during the 1870 s and 1880 s necessitated the development of trust that would stabilize individual industries. This would later ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This is known as issue voting. E.g. whether a candidate will support a ban on fox hunting. Gender Socialization Paper Gender roles are categories that characterize what it means to be feminine and masculine in society, on how people think about gender as they relate to one another (Adams et al., 2013). For example, women are expected to be accommodating and emotional, while men are usually expected to be self confident and aggressive, this shows how men and women are to behave in society. However, these sayings were taught to individuals based on norms, or standards created by a society which is called Gender Socialization (p. 318). Growing up as a child, we were taught as girls to play with dollhouses, pretend kitchen sets, cleaning supplies and play dress up. Whereas boys are taught to play with cars, sports equipment s, action figures, and weapons. However, if a boy was playing with dollhouses, or playing dress up, he would be considered gay, or not masculine and looked down upon by society, and families. Because thrombosis of the superficial veins of the lower extremities can easily extend to the deep veins, it is important to avoid the use of these veins. Superficial veins are bluish in color. The hand provides a flat surface for stabilization and as this vein is in the extremity it allows successive venipunctures to be performed above the site. These veins may therefore be the first choice for venipuncture. Cephalic Vein: The cephalic vein flows upward along the radial aspect of the forearm. Its size readily accommodates a large needle, while its position provides easy access and natural splinting. This vein can be accessed from the wrist to the upper arm (using the most distal region of the vein first). These veins tend to roll so anchoring the vein during venipuncture essential. While the Fraser Gold Rush is the one that drew Chinese north, it was during the Cariboo Gold Rush that the first Chinese community, called The Hong Shun Tang, was established in Canada in the gold mining town of Barkerville. In the 1860s, Barkerville was a booming town. Thousands of prospectors came to the town, many of them from the U.S. At the peak of the gold rush, there were as many as 5,000 Chinese living in Barkerville. Unfortunately, the Chinese were not allowed to prospect in areas other than abandoned sites. This was due to discrimination towards Asians at that time. On account of this fact, the Chinese did not make the same fortunes as the whites did. Nonetheless, the Chinese still managed to find a way to thrive as a community. They provided many services to as many as 20,000 prospectors that came into the Barkerville region in the 1860s. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super s developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in creating one s self concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement. He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student, leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his archway of career determinants detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics (labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career development. Super s Life and Career Development Stages Donald Super s theory of career development focuses on the different stages people progress through as they go through life, and how these stages correlate with important events and career choices. According to the Polaris Project, 244,000 children were at risk to be sexually exploited because of human trafficking in 2000. It is obvious that sex trafficking is a problem all over the world, and many Americans do not believe that it is happening right in their backyard. In fact, between one and three hundred thousand people are at risk of being abducted and forced in to the sex trade every year and, in numerous cases, women in the prostitution business entered it at a young age: around 12 to 14 years of age, the New York Times Found. Over the past few months and years, thirty nine states have passed anti human trafficking laws that aid victims of human trafficking as victims as such, not as prostitutes. In Illinois, for example, prostitution is no longer a felony. Furthermore, a minor is unable to be charged with prostitution, even as a misdemeanor; seeing as in more cases than not, these minors are victims of trafficking. In accordance with these laws, the focus is on arresting traffickers and the customers of prostitutes.
