Capital Planning And Budgeting System Process
Capital planning and budgeting is a very vital piece in the Public Budgeting System process. It is an
essential implement in the financial management practice and is effective in both public and private
organizations. It is the method which consists of the determination and the evaluation of the
investments and the possible expenses by an organization. As explicated by Lee, Johnson, Joyce
(2008), capital budgets help in determining how much of each form of investment is needed, and it
supports an organization in assessing the available revenue which includes loans that are required to
finance those investments (p. 475). Capital budgeting is a central part of the universal practice of
accounting as it has an implication on the other ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The agency relies on capital budgeting as a tool to ensure that all capital and resources are being well
utilized. The process of capital budgeting entails the emphasis on key aspects that includes
determining debt capacity, funding and other activities that may include refunding and the
restructuring of the existing debt obligations. FLDOE just like other agencies perceive a budget
differently and the management believes it as a tool and a plan to create a productive environment and
for the company to achieve goals and objectives. Florida Department of Education are responsible for
the improvement, growth and use of planned strategic management data for the provision of short and
long range planning, planning for public schools, community colleges, state universities, and

Sir Gawain And The Green Knight Analysis
Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is about the Green Knight coming to a feast at King Arthur s table,
and wanting to challenge the King to a game. The game was a game unlike many others, it was about
beheading. The King accepts the challenge, but while he is holding the axe to swing at the Green
Knight, Sir Gawain steps in, takes the ax and beheads the Green Knight himself.
The Green Knight s bloody head laid on the ground, but to Sir Gawain s shock, the Green Knight
picked up his head and placed it back on his body. He reminded Sir Gawain that he had accepted the
challenge so, Sir Gawain himself had to come find the Green Knight in one year at his chapel, so the
he can then behead Sir Gawain. By accepting this challenge, Sir Gawain shows courage and maturity
and what he has learned is not to trust but regardless, he has gained confidence. ... Show more content

The Three Stages Of Memory Encoding
On a day to day basis humans are processing different information constantly. Have you ever
wondered how this is possible? Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information,
store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test
one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a
test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able
to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to
understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the
concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval.
Memory Encoding
Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory
input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our
perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in
order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture),
acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often
without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something,
we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to
ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it
(semantic).
Memory Storage
Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information
involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload.
The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory.
Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much
information our brain can actually withhold. According to Miller (1956) most adults are able to store
between 5 and

What Are The Similarities Between Andrew Jackson And The...
Using the third chapter of The American Political Tradition analyzes the career of Andrew Jackson
and the concept of Jacksonian Democracy. and other source materials. I will compare and contract
Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. They both being influential political figures in two very
different eras. Each formed their own democracy that helped shape the way we think about American
government. Consequently, they had their differences, yet they also had their similarities. From many
viewpoints between the two democracies will be analyzed in political, economic, social, and religious
aspects. After comparing and contracting Jefferson vs Jacksonian democracy the next step will be

The Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge decision affect the access to corporate charters prevalent
in Jefferson s time. Cause of it during Jefferson time corporate charters were granted to favorites of
state legislators often implied monopoly rights to a business. For Jackson his appointee for Chief
Justice of the Supreme Court, Roger Taney ruled that corporate charters should be available to all who
chose to risk starting a business. Both Jackson and Jefferson owned slaves but Jefferson wanted it to
be destroyed completely and his Jeffersonian Republicans compromised on slavery because it
promoted agriculture over industry. Jackson supported slavery and seem not to care that much about
abolition of it. In the 1840 s and 1850 s his Jacksonian Democrats joined anti slavery Democrats
joined the Whig Party. When talk of education was brought up Jefferson who was an educated man
himself, believed education was necessary for office holding and for preparing citizens for
participation in a democracy. Also to Jefferson the obstacles to upward social mobility for him was
education ambition were keys to success; however, he could never build support for his proposed
system of public education. Jackson who had none too little education; believed education wasn t
important and seen hard work as the key to social mobility. He advocated for the self made man and

Martyrs In Peter Brown s The Cult Of The Saints
The veneration of the saints has been a long standing tradition in the Catholic faith, one that is highly
exalted. Saints, in the Catholic faith, are meant to be ideal role models for the practicing Catholic, so
that every Catholic may be closer to God through the saints. Saints lived an extraordinary life as a
human and lead an example for all Catholics to follow. While the canonization for sainthood is a long
process, before the canonization process, martyrs were the saints that people looked up to. Martyrs
had been physically harmed and killed for their faith. This idea of self mortification is very real in
many of Catholic saint s lives. Self mortification can take on many forms including, but not limited to,
fasting and self harm.
The Cult of the Saints by Peter Brown discusses the role that the saints and martyrs play in the ...

Saint Rose of Lima fasted about three times a week, held herself to very severe penances, wore coarse
clothes, and took a vow of virginity. The daily schedule of Saint Rose of Lima included twelve hours
devoted to prayer, ten hours devoted to work, and two hours for sleep (Graziano, 2004). This intensive
schedule full of pain and suffering began when the Lord became manifest to her, allowing her to know
of His holy presence and give her courage and strength in that fact. After this manifestation, Saint
Rose of Lima began fasting daily, abstaining from meat, and ate only enough coarse food to sustain
her. Her penances continued to become more harsh and she began constantly wearing a metal spiked
crown and an iron chain around her waist. At this point she would go days without food and her only
rest would be on a bed of broken glass, stone, potsherd, and thorns. Throughout this time of severe
harm and injury, there were many apparitions of the Lord to Saint Rose of Lima to help her remain in
her suffering for the Lord (Aymé,

Early Labor Movement Research Paper
Labor unions have been around since the birth of our country. Labor unions were a way to protect
Americans from working at dangerous factories or sweatshops. Before any labor unions working was
horrible for the people. Anything that could have went bad for them did. They had horrible wages they
were lucky if they had enough to eat an occasional meal. Also they mostly never got any break

Hunt. This court case was a case in which the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that the common
law doctrine of criminal conspiracy did not apply to labor unions. Criminal conspiracy is when two or
people agree to commit a crime in the near future. Many people in their jobs were getting hit with that
if someone wanted to try something like stealing money and robbing the place many of them were
desperate for money because of the little pay they received from their job. And the Commonwealth V.
Hunt court case ruled they were not allowed to do that unless they had been caught red handed or had
raw evidence. They also had many campaigns that were to help the workers in the factories. The first
campaign was at corporation hospital where Roger helped for a well organized, influential anti union
organizing committee (Penny 91) . At first the court thought of the campaigns of just people trying to
get what they wanted and it was never going to work but after they saw many people really putting in
the effort to get what they want it really made people think like maybe we are treating these people
badly and they want change. Most of the bad came from post war labor

Sexism In Schools
If accused of racism or sexism, most people would deny the allegation. Racism and sexism became
problems because the general public stereotyped large groups of people. One would think people in
the twenty first century would learn that categorizing people does not yield a beneficial outcome.
Despite conclusive evidence against it, schools around the country are classifying students by intellect
using a system called tracking. Although many institutions have utilized tracking to improve their
schools, they are taking the wrong approach. If you decide to add class levels to your school system,
the quality of of your district would deteriorate. Tracking will limit your district s success because of
the impracticality of levels, the decreased confidence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Reading comparisons indicate a statistically significant lower achievement associated with early
tracking. Similarly, the mathematics results are always lower with early tracking. (Hanushek 12) As
any sports enthusiast knows, It s better to play up . This means that playing among skilled players and
challenging oneself makes you a better player than playing with a team that doesn t push one s limits.
Why shouldn t this phrase pertain to academics? When surrounded by advanced learners, students will
pick up on their habits and techniques. Another problem with school levels is created when diligent
students have trouble with tests. The placement test can t make an accurate guess at their intelligence
level because the students don t perform on tests as they do in class. They would be placed in a lower
level than they deserve, and those kids would be taught basic concepts when they have the capability
to learn advanced material. Learning, a crucial aspect of education, will diminish if you implement
class levels.
Due to the dysfunctionality, negative mindset of students, and diminished quality of education, class
levels would hinder your school system. The many problems with school levels overshadow the few
benefits. As Dr. Jeanne Oakes pointed out, tracking is a practice that is very popular, very common,
that s based on a flawed theory, and for which there is almost

Ancient Roman Architecture And Humanism
The time of the Renaissance was a period when old ideas and techniques were brought back to the
surface. Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be
discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage.
I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in
Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans
practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that humans
and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that God(s) made
humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest in a system in
which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for artisans. This building
was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant family known as the
Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo. According to Dr. Beth
Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of those books was titled The
Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and was considered the most
important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture written by the ancient
Roman Vitruvius. Using Vitruvius vocabulary of ancient Roman architecture, Alberti used it in a self
conscious way to proclaim its

Religion In Beowulf
Beowulf: A Christian Book
Beowulf, a poem written around the 10th to 11th century, is a very detailed poem describing some of
the actions a character by the name of Beowulf does. It takes place in Anglo Saxon time (British
Library, n.d., p. 1). Throughout the first episode, characters are very boastful and like to roast each
other as well. This poem later gets pretty violent and gruesome. However, many people think Beowulf
is a Christian poem. Others say it isn t. Beowulf is a Christian poem and not a pagan one for many
reasons. These include that God is talked a lot about throughout the whole poem, even that pagan parts
to this book have a different meaning than what is said, and Beowulf is made after Jesus Christ. First
off, throughout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, throughout the first episode, people are being terrorized by Grendel. Beowulf comes
along and slays the beast to save all the people, acting as a savior to all these needy folks. He barely
knew these Danish people yet he came and saved their lives. The Danes thought of him as their savior
sent to them by God. He came out of nowhere and saved their lives. He put himself in harm s way to
protect the group of people he barely knew. Jesus did that in His life by saving all of us (Matthew 18).
He came and defeated the beast which was death and rose again on the third day. Though Beowulf
didn t die and come back to life, he did do some very Christ like actions as a man. He saves lives just
as Jesus did. Now, Jesus Christ was long dead by the time this poem was written. However, if this
book was a pagan book, how could the Anglo Saxons even find ways to compare Beowulf to Jesus
Christ. They wouldn t even know who he is. The author of this book knew who Jesus was and based
his main character after Him. Who could be a better main character than a man who resembles Jesus
Christ? Really nothing can beat that. The author of the poem had a genius thought when writing it by
letting Beowulf be like Jesus. This proves again that Beowulf is a Christian book and no a pagan

One standard argument against the overall value of Facebook is that staying in such an online and
direct way in touch is something that is interesting only for the younger generation . That is maybe
true or not. But there is another aspect. If you are for example a senior developer and you are not
interested in staying in contact with your Contacts automatically then maybe you are interested in the
potential business opportunity: Facebook is not only encouraging developers to create their own
applications that will run inside Facebook (on top of the platform). The Facebook platform has also
build in a simple but effective mechanism to promote the usage of your newly created application: All
Contacts of any new user of your Facebook application will get (in exactly the same way as already
described) a notification that these users just started to use your application. This form of directly
build in application promotion/marketing for your application can deliver high numbers of users to
any application so fast that probably most application providers will be challenged to handle the
demand (please see for details this excellent article from Marc Andreessen ). Example

Essay On Why Cats Are Better Pets Than Dogs
Cats are not better pets than dogs. Have you ever had that intriguing question about whether you
should get a dog or a cat as your new family member. Here are some reasons why you should always
choose to adopt a new dog, not a new cat. You will get more exercise from owning a dog. When I go
outside to bike, often my mom will follow me to get our dog exercise, but this technique will help my
mom in the long run, because even if her motive is to wear my dog out, she s also getting exercise and
getting healthier. Dogingtonpost says it is recommended that you walk your dog at least 15 minutes,
twice a day. Mayoclinic says to aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. These two
times equal each other so if you walk your dog for the necessary amount each day, then you yourself
will also get the necessary amount of exercise daily. Dogs are a lot easier to train. When dogs were
first bred as wild animals they would follow their pack leader, when domesticated their leader
becomes their human. When you train a dog it becomes bonded to you, but cats, not so much. Cats are
more independent when it comes to relationships. Because cats have no notion of duty, service, or
pack behaviour. In other words, doing something for the sake of something else, or someone else, than
themselves. Says Nuno Desa. Dogs come in more shapes and sizes. Whether you are looking for a big
dog, a small dog, a hypoallergenic dog, or just a friendly dog, chances are you won t have to much

Retrospective Analysis Anthropology
Anthropological analyses always starts with a question, and, in regards to Mythology, majority of the
questions are asked in retrospect. This retrospective analysis is a very scientific and alienating way of
approaching myth a cultural component who s roots are planted in a deeply social and emotional
practices. Years of inquiry and speculation have resulted in anthropologists coming up with numerous
methodologies and practices to explain exactly how one needs to approach the study of myth thats
best reveals its function. Most of the methods are broken down and explained in a series of steps,

Right away this assertion distances Malinowski and the culture he belongs to from myth. His method
of studying myth is more complex than Rooth s. Rooth s paper presents and breaks down all variations
of the creation myth in North America. After laying out the eight different types of the creation myth,
Rooth concludes, myth has geographical boundaries . Malinowski tries to justify his claim that myth
can help us understand the behaviors and customs of the people who tell them. Right at the beginning
of his essay he makes a comparison that puts forth the idea that when a society becomes civilized and
more developed, religion usurps mythology: this myth is to the savage what, to a fully believing
Christian, is the Biblical story of Creation... (Malinowski). Malinowski refers to primitive cultures as
savage because they think about myth in religious terms. He tries to separate from mythology by
calling myth a pragmatic charter and by dwelling mentally for sometime among people of much
simpler culture than our own, we maybe able to see ourselves from a distance (Malinowski). Calling
myth charter he imposes the socioeconomic concerns of Europe at the time on primitive myth and
implies that it can only exist to validate custom and institution myth for Malinowski will always state

During Odysseus journey back home to Ithaca, him and his crew encountered many evils and troubles.
Almost every one of these took at least one of his men. Scylla is an example of this. This monster took
six of Odysseus men while on the journey home. Nearly ever was it Odysseus fault. His men caused
most of the problems that haunted them back to Ithaca. His hardships started when he was sent off to
fight in the Trojan War. He had to fight because he had made an oath to Helen s husband that he would
always defend her honor. When Paris abducted Helen he was then forced to fight. After he had fought

Odysseus offered him some of his wine and he tried it and begged for more so Odysseus just kept
giving it to him drink by drink until he was drunk. The Cyclopes asked Odysseus what his name was

Puritans And The New England
Puritans were a group of English Protestants who believed that the Reformation of the Church of
English was still to stuck on Catholic formalities and wanted to simplify and regulate types of
worship. The Puritans left England out of a need to purify the church and their own lives. They
followed the writings of John Calvin to America and formed The Massachusetts Bay Colony. The
Massachusetts Bay Colony was one of the original settlements, settled in 1630 by a group of about
1,000 Puritan refugees from England, under the guidance of Governor John Winthrop. In 1929, The
Massachusetts Bay Colony received a charter from King Charles I allowing them to colonize in New
England between the Charles River and the Merrimack River. The Puritans created a government with
theocratic rule which was limited to church members. The Puritans initially settled in Boston in 1630.
After Boston, they settled in Cambridge, Lexington, Concord, Watertown, Charlestown, and
Dorchester. The Puritan population, in New England, rose from 17,800 people, in 1640, to 106,000, in
1700.
The beliefs of the puritans were simple and straightforward. They believed that the Bible was God s
true law and it provided the blueprints for a righteous life. People who did not agree with the Puritans
theological views were advised to disperse from the area or convert to the popular beliefs of the
majority. In fact, those who deviated from the socially acceptable way of living were strictly

Potential for damage is often more obvious where levels of humidity and rainfall are high. High levels
of disease can result from just a few infected plants since each spot produces numerous conidia or
spores. The spores can be dispersal by windborne and may also be spread by splashing rain, irrigation
water, insects, and human contact. This disease could be a potential thread in other new areas with
similar agro ecology especially on Dioscoreophyllum, Rhigiocarya, Tinospora and Menispermaceae
crops.
MANAGEMENT, PREVENTION AND CONTROL
This disease can be managed by avoid overhead irrigation if it will result in prolonged leaf wetness
periods. Proper cutting and reduction of plant leaves reduce water drop on leaf surface especially by
dew and excess rain water.
Proper observance of planting distance allows sufficient sun light, air circulation and avoids disease to
move from one planting into next. Removal and proper disposal of infected plant leaves need to be
taken in order to avoid and controlling the spread of this disease. Where required to burn the infected

Maimonides Influence On Jewish Law
Rabbi Moshe ben Maimon, Talmudist, Halachist, physician, philosopher and communal leader, known
to the world at large as Maimonides, is considered to be one of the most important figures in the
history of scholarship (Fackenheim 171). Maimonides foundations of knowledge continues to have a
large presence in the fields of medicine, Jewish law, religion, and most notably, philosophy.
Maimonides achieved fame as a physician and wrote medical treatises on a number of diseases, and
proposed cures. His 10 medical treatises show his humanism as a physician, and emphasis on
preventative medicine. Through his medical scholarship, he emphasizes the treatment of the whole
patient, mind and body, which allows a doctor to be a more effective physician, as well as a teacher of
well being. He pioneered descriptions of diseases such as hepatitis, pneumonia, diabetes, and asthma,
as well as many others, with remarkably modern treatment methods for his time. Maimonides was a
physician of whom modern medicine would be proud if he were alive today (Rosner). ... Show more

Ancient Roman Civilization
The Ancient Roman Civilization was one of the most advanced and successful societies of their time.
But what led to their victory? Between the years 509 BCE and 120 CE the Romans developed their
dominance of the ancient world. Their location was key to their reign as it allowed trading throughout
the Mediterranean sea. Their ability to create infrastructure was a tactic they used to further define
themselves as a global superpower. They were able to create a complex road system that allowed them
to travel and trade with nearly everyone around them. They also built a water system so advanced
there was a choice in temperature. These developments would ve been meaningless without the
inhabitants. The citizens of the Roman Empire were broken down into classes; there are debates as to
whether or not this was beneficial. Regardless, the social structure greatly affected this civilization.
The Roman civilization constantly surpassed standards that no one had ever attempted to change.
They were certainly a force to be reckoned with.
The Mediterranean Sea was a central component of the Roman Empire. With several societies nearby
the Romans were able to trade constantly. There was always a variety of products circulating which
led to a diverse culture and lifestyle (Bednarz 81 82). Goods that could not be produced in Rome were
shipped in from other places like Italy, Greece, Africa and even Spain (Robinson 1). This trading was
appealing to the citizens because they could purchase

New York City Police Department Analysis
The New York City Police Department has conducted an extreme amount of stops, amounting to half a
million because of suspected criminal involvement. The NYPD noticed a large amount of stops and
decided to turn to RAND, an organization for research and development issues, to determine issues
with their stops. RAND researchers conducted three types of analysis including external
benchmarking, internal benchmarking, and how the outcome of stops differed from other stops. The
first to be researched, external benchmarking was based on the criminals race and the race of who
officers particularly stopped. This was to see the different races that the police encountered with, yet
there was no correlation the rates of criminals races. The second research ... Show more content on

The source is limited to the RAND researchers findings in 2006, published in 2007, limiting me to the
facts from 10 years ago. Although, it is still timely because stop and frisk ended only 6 years later. The
sources strengths are that it is factual information. The information tells the truth and gives different
point of views on why officers stop certain citizens. The source uses information from the NYPD,
Supreme Court cases, and the United States Census Bureau. I would be able to use all of this sources
sources within my paper because they are all related to one another. The NYPD provides charts of
information to show which races are stopped and what happens during the stops. To conclude with my
questions, I would like to know if RAND researchers furthered their research until 2013 when stop
and frisk finalized? I also am curious as to the background of the researchers, what their qualifications
are to make them experts for this research. Overall, I enjoyed this source very much because of the
unbiased, truthful facts the researchers were able to

Essay on The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson
The Sixties, by Terry H. Anderson, takes the reader on a journey through one of the most turbulent
decades in American life. Beginning with the crew cut conformity of 1950s Cold War culture and
ending with the transition into the uneasy 70s, Anderson notes the rise of an idealistic generation of
baby boomers, widespread social activism, and revolutionary counterculture. Anderson explores the
rapidly shifting mood of the country with the optimism during the Kennedy years, the liberal advances
of Johnson s Great Society, and the growing conflict over Vietnam that nearly tore America apart. The
book also navigates through different themes regarding the decade s different currents of social
change; including the anti war movement, the civil ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This thematic standpoint in return provides ground for a second major theme; the 1960s was home to
the birth of civil rights movements and forever changed the American idea of the status quo. To a large
extent, it is agreeable that that the 1960s serves as the era that led to activism in the US. Anderson is
able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the greatest
milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US, the
government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced by the
fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest government
action. At the time, the policies and actions put forth by the government were seen to be very secretive
and wrong. Citizens were hastily informed about the need to stop the spread of communism at the
expense of capitalism. Not only were government policies seen as corrupt, the government had kept
the American society in the dark concerning the actual situation in Vietnam. There seemed to be no
cost that was worth retreating from Vietnam. Draft calls were constantly increasing and the war itself
began to result in federal expenditures, deficits, and inflationary pressures ( Anderson 90). For some
Americans, the war not only damaging, but unfair. Mexican Americans were the poorest and

Essay On Maternity Leave
Women in the United States should be guaranteed a paid maternal leave. The United States is the only
industrialized country that does not guarantee paid maternity leave. The Family and Medical Leave
Act was passed in 1993, and it protects a woman s position at her job for 12 weeks: It does not
mandate pay (Holohan). Paid maternity leave is not unheard of in the United States. California, New
Jersey, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island these are the states that offer some form of paid leave to new
mothers. It is not enough to only have four states offer paid leave. Only 12% of Americans are able to
take a paid maternity leave (NPR). Paid maternity leave should be mandated in every state. Many
people do support the idea of paid leave, but some oppose because they do not want to pay for it. The
way maternity leave could be paid for is the same principle as Social Security. A small portion of
people s paychecks would go towards paid leave. Some people do not realize that paid maternity leave
does not mean that women are simply paid the same as if they were still working. The states that allow
paid maternity leave only allow four to six weeks of their time off to be paid. It is different among ...

The American Of The Vietnam War
Kenneth Penn, 69, stepped into the coffee shop clad head to toe in purple and gold. The emblem
across his hat and jacket pictured a purple and gold heart, encircled by the words Military Order
Purple Heart, 1762 of the U.S.A. 1932.
When Penn first sat down with me to tell me his story, he asked if anyone in my family had ever
served in a war. I responded by telling him my father was a marine before I was born. No, your father
is a marine. Once you re a marine, you re always a marine, Penn corrected.
Gentle in his demeanor and free with his sense of humor, Penn went on to tell me his story as a
veteran of the Vietnam War.
Penn graduated from the University of St. Thomas with a degree in business in 1967. He initially took

It is important to know, says Penn, There is nobody that joins the military and says, Let s find a war!
The military does as the government tells them, and faces negative treatment from the American
public as a result, which is an unfortunate truth, Penn says.
After his time in Oklahoma, Penn spent the following six months in Khe Sanh, located in South
Vietnam. When he first arrived, the veteran says the land was quiet and peaceful. Penn recalls when
they first started out there was almost no difference between home and Vietnam. They received three
meals a day and two beers a day, Penn says with a laugh. The hot chow and nightly movies, though,
were an early luxury for Penn and his fellow marines. On January 21, 1968, chaos ensued. The Battle
of Khe Sanh had begun.
Mortars and rockets came down from dusk to dawn in an attempt to take over the base. Back home,
newspaper headlines addressed President Johnson s focused desire to win the war. Meanwhile, back
on the base, the only desire Penn and his men held was for food, water, and ammunition to keep them
going until the siege was under control.
You learn something in every war, says Penn. While stationed in Vietnam, Penn and his fellow
marines learned they were greatly underprepared.
The veteran considers himself lucky though, because his men were able to exchange their sea rations

Detroit: Is a Comeback in Store?
Reputations can be very deceiving. They cause you to think a certain way about something without
forming your own opinion first. Reputations are like stereotypes: they both make you conform to other
people s views about a subject without getting to know it for yourself. The city of Detroit falls victim
to having a bad reputation. The Motor City is known as being corrupt and left for dead; it is called
hopeless and dangerous by people who have never even stepped foot into the city. Growing up thirty
miles from Detroit, I consider myself a Detroiter and disagree with the city s horrible reputation. I
believe that Detroit has been through ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
From low test scores to high schools dropouts, Detroit is known as the least educated city in the
nation. This can lead to a variety of issues, including a rise in criminal activity and the inability for
residents to make a positive impact on their city. In 2009, an article was published by Taham Bradley
from ABC News called What Is the Worst School System in America? . Bradley writes in the article
that We ve always known Detroit public schools were among the worst in the nation but we haven t
seen data like this before...Detroit school children ranked the lowest in the nation of participants on
the National Assessment of Educational Progress math test. Detroit Public Schools are horrible. These
low test scores don t just hurt Detroit, but bring down our nation, making our education system fall
behind on the international scale. That is why lawmakers decided to make a bold move and close
down Detroit Public Schools for good. In an article by Avi Asher Schapiro called Detroit shifts debt,
launches new district with local control , it is mentioned that In early June 2016, lawmakers approved
a $617 million bailout of Detroit Public Schools to restructure nearly $4 billion in crippling debt. The
plan will divide the schools into an old district a legal entity which will pay down debt over time and a
new debt free district known as the Detroit Public School Community District, which will be given
$150 million startup loan from the state. This plan is expected to turn out for the better, by getting rid
of the name and bankruptcy of the previous school system and replacing it with this more improved
and better funded one. Schools are the foundation that will teach the new generation of Detroiters to
be successful members of society to help improve the city for years to come. Detroit s education
system is on the road to recovery, the road to what it was like in the early 60s. In the book

Essay on Reasons for Popularity of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Reasons for Popularity of Buffy The Vampire Slayer
Vampire stories have been told for hundreds of years, and like all things, they have evolved with time.
As technology has moved forward so did the stories, and vampire films soon became popular. These
stories have recently moved onto the small screen, the most popular of which, a modern adaptation of
the tradition vampire myth called Buffy the Vampire Slayer . This popular programme has a massive
following here in the UK and also overseas and is now in its 7th series of programmes and has been
seen on TV screens around the world for over four years.

The woman turns into a green hideous monster and kills that boy. This is very rare for a vampire tale
as traditionally vampires did not look like monsters and also they only attacked defenseless females.
The episode starts properly when Buffy Summers, a 16 year old girl moves to Sunnydale, from LA
with her mother. This is not the setting that we would expect for a vampire story as the word
Sunnydale hardly paints a picture of a dark, scary place full of vampires. Therefore, this name
subverts the traditional signifier s. On the first day of school, Cordelia, the popular girl inducts Buffy
into the cool crowd despite this Buffy attempts to be friends with three other students, Xander, Willow
and Jesse. This gesture shows us that Buffy is a good judge of character, strong minded and that she is
a leader not a follower.
Buffy goes to the school library to get some text books. The library, although a more unusual setting
was much more like something from a vampire story, it was dark and empty. To add tension the
producers used scary disjointed music to try and set the scene and the camera moves in onto a
newspaper article, to which you can read the headline which refers to a missing teenage boy. This
article casts a question mark over the normal nice

Re: Fill Rate for 10 ounce bottles of Linatol
Introduction
Lorex Pharmaceuticals recently gained FDA approval to market and sell a new product called Linatol.
This memo will address the need to select a target amount to which each 10 ounce bottle of Linatol
will be filled. The analysis of several target fill rates was conducted to determine the one that
maximizes the contribution per case, therefore generating the maximum revenue for Lorex
Pharmaceuticals. This ideal fill rate will allow more bottles to be sold at the full retail price of $186
and limit the under filled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For each target fill rate the proportion of bottles filled correctly had to be determined. This calculation
provides a breakdown between cases that can be sold for the full amount of $186 and cases that are
designated as seconds, which are sold for 80% of the full price or $148.80. Revenue per case grows
continuously as the target fill rate increases. From the blending costs which include $67,662 of active
ingredient per 5000 liters, and blending labor of $432 per 5000 liter batch the cost per ounce of
medication is approximately $0.40. This provides input for the active ingredient cost. Based on the
labor cost of $8.50 per hour at 12 cases per hour, the input for rework cost per case is approximately
$0.70 per case. Contribution per case is derived from the revenue minus the costs. The contribution
per case is the performance criteria that our decision is based upon. Results
A balance between revenue and cost is seen at a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. The revenue
per case is greater when the bottles are filled to 10.5 ounces; however the resulting increase in the
active ingredient cost produces a lower contribution per case. The recommendation is to use a target
fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. Initially there will be an increased cost of active ingredients but in

Under the Black Flag
Cordingly, David. Under The Black Flag: The Romance And The Reality Of Life Among The Pirates.
Harcourt, Inc.: Orlando, FL, 1997.
Part 1: Summary The point of this book was to put aside the myths about pirates and replace them
with facts. There are many fictional myths about pirates and their lives on the sea. Many books and
movies have built pirates up to be romantical heroes instead of the ruthless savages they were, so this
book focuses on separating fact from fiction about life as a pirate. Many plays and books such as Peter
Pan, Treasure Island, and many others have used pirates as characters for many years. Many of us
grew up watching pirates on television, but most of the time in pursuit of entertainment the truth is ...

Although some pirates were not as barbaric as others, they were all criminals who broke the law. Also
included in this book is what happened to pirates when they were caught by the government. If
convicted of piracy it often meant a sure death by hanging. Many times the bodies of pirates were
hung over harbors and around ports as a warning of the consequences of being a pirate. The
government hoped that these drastic measures would help quell the raids of pirates. So this book lets
us know that even though pirates have a romanticized appearance, in all reality they were criminals
who had their own way of life.
Part 2: Personal Analysis This book is awesome. I had the mot fun reading it than I ve had in awhile.
This book was very interesting, and it made learning about pirates fun rather than just dumping a lot of
facts on you. It helps the public experience the mentality of the pirate. Even though pirates were
usually oppressed seamen who turned to piracy, they were still ruthless, stone cold criminals. This
book uses a lot of literature and fabricated stories, but the reason for this is because there is not a lot of
documentation of pirates. Some facts have been changed around while the stories were being retold,
and this is the main point of the book; to get back to the root of who pirates really were. One example
of pirate mentality is when Captain Cary s ship was attacked by

* Model for the construction industry using pre determined times Jasper Van Gilsa, Leo Vaningelgema
Abstract This paper is based on our work experience with Office line. This company prepares standard
times for companies in the industrial sector. Standard time is productive time that is required and
achieved by an employee. Standard time contains everything that is necessary for the work specified
to be completed. The reason why Office line only prepare standard times for the industrial sector
rather than the construction industry is due to the repetitive nature of the work. One example is the car
industry which uses assembly lines. In the construction sector, this kind of repetition is not so evident.
There is repetitiveness in some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This includes that we have to make a more than one measurement to become a reliable average for
these tasks. A second importance that we need to take notice of using chrono, is the performance level
at which the employee is working. An execution time of a specific person can not be used as a
reference for or employees and as a consequency we can t set these specific times as standards. Tools
that can help us by adding a tempo to our measurements are tempo scales. These scales will make sure
that execution times will be calibrated and that we become standard times. Standard times can be
executed by any valid employee in a social acceptable space of time. Bedaux scale This tempo scale
was designed by the Frenchman Bedaux. He saw that not all employees were working at the same
performance level. So he had the idea to add a value from 0 to 100 to the performance levels where
100 stands for the maximum pace which can only be performed for a short period and zero for doing
nothing at all. A score of 60 is the level every valid employee should be able to perform for a complete
week, 8 hours per day. For his scale, Bedaux compared the working tempo with walking (60) and
running (100) that we know starts from a speed of 7,5 km/h. Walking at the speed of 4,5 km/h matches
the score of 60 Bedaux points. Berenschot scale * For some people the Bedaux scale was a bit

God s Grandeur By Gerald Manley Hopkins
At the beginning of the 19th Psalm, David writes, The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies
proclaim the work of his hands. Gerald Manley Hopkins seems to echo this theme in his poem, God s
Grandeur. The interesting aspects of this poem are a result of Hopkins different perspectives on nature.
In the beginning of the poem, Hopkins directs his focus on the glory of God through the lens of the
world. There is then a turning point where he diverts his attention to the problems mankind inflicts
upon creation. However, the closing of the poem involves him stepping back and reflecting upon the
eternality of God. God s Grandeur is interwoven with powerful imagery that is evoked by elaborate
double entendres that reflect the interaction between humans, nature, and the eternal grandeur of God
that surpasses Earth, which though temporary, is under constant care from God despite our actions.
The first stanza provides an interesting dynamic between creation and man. Hopkins writes, The world
is charged with grandeur of God. / It will flame out, shining from shook foil... (1 2). The first two lines
provide an interesting double entendre. When Hopkins writes, The world is charged with the grandeur
of God (1), is evokes the imagery of electricity. Thus, the shook foil mentioned in the second line
characterizes the world of having bursts of energy and light similar to when light is shone upon
metallic surfaces like foil. The other interpretation comes from

How Did Walt Disney Impact The World
The year 1928 was pivotal for Walt Disney and the rest of society; Disney created the amicable and
animated Mickey Mouse which had both short and long term effects on Disney s career as well as
shaping his legacy. Before the rise of his famous cartoon mouse, Disney struggled to run a successful
company; conversely, he maintained a passion for film that led him to fame. He grew up on a farm
with strict parents that did not allow him to play with toys as a child. This is believed to be the source
for his avid imagination as an adult and the inspiration for his animal characters.
An abundance of Disney s accomplishments can be traced back to his original character. The initial

  • 4. The Three Stages Of Memory Encoding On a day to day basis humans are processing different information constantly. Have you ever wondered how this is possible? Have you ever wondered why you are able to obtain new information, store it, and then recall it for later usage? For example, how is it possible that we can study for a test one day, and then the next day we are able to retrieve that very information to use to take and pass a test? Because memory is an important cognitive process it helps us to record the past, so we are able to refer back to it at a later date. If humans didn t have a memory, we would only be able to understand the present and our past wouldn t exist. The urge to study how memory works and the concept behind, it has been around for many years. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This happens through three stages which include encoding, storage, and retrieval. Memory Encoding Before information is able to be stored successfully in our memory, information from our sensory input has to be changed into a form in which our brain is able to comprehend. For example, our perception of something may be different from how it is actually explained, so we have to encode it in order to better understand it. There are three main stages where encoding occurs; visual (picture), acoustic (sound), and semantic (meaning) (McLeod, 2007). We go through these three stages often without even realizing it. For example, when we have to remember a series of numbers for something, we may keep referring back to it so we have a mental image of it (visual), we may repeat it to ourselves ( acoustic), and it has to be significant to us otherwise we would have a need to remember it (semantic). Memory Storage Storage in the human memory is the second of the three processes. The process of storing information involves filtering out and filing information so our brain does not experience an information overload. The information our brain receives can be stored into our long term, short term or sensory memory. Memory storage also involves how long we are able to obtain that information and how much information our brain can actually withhold. According to Miller (1956) most adults are able to store between 5 and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Using the third chapter of The American Political Tradition analyzes the career of Andrew Jackson and the concept of Jacksonian Democracy. and other source materials. I will compare and contract Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. They both being influential political figures in two very different eras. Each formed their own democracy that helped shape the way we think about American government. Consequently, they had their differences, yet they also had their similarities. From many viewpoints between the two democracies will be analyzed in political, economic, social, and religious aspects. The Charles River Bridge v. Warren Bridge decision affect the access to corporate charters prevalent in Jefferson s time. Cause of it during Jefferson time corporate charters were granted to favorites of state legislators often implied monopoly rights to a business. For Jackson his appointee for Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Roger Taney ruled that corporate charters should be available to all who chose to risk starting a business. Both Jackson and Jefferson owned slaves but Jefferson wanted it to be destroyed completely and his Jeffersonian Republicans compromised on slavery because it promoted agriculture over industry. Jackson supported slavery and seem not to care that much about abolition of it. In the 1840 s and 1850 s his Jacksonian Democrats joined anti slavery Democrats joined the Whig Party. When talk of education was brought up Jefferson who was an educated man himself, believed education was necessary for office holding and for preparing citizens for participation in a democracy. Also to Jefferson the obstacles to upward social mobility for him was education ambition were keys to success; however, he could never build support for his proposed system of public education. • 6. Martyrs In Peter Brown s The Cult Of The Saints The veneration of the saints has been a long standing tradition in the Catholic faith, one that is highly exalted. Saints, in the Catholic faith, are meant to be ideal role models for the practicing Catholic, so that every Catholic may be closer to God through the saints. Saints lived an extraordinary life as a human and lead an example for all Catholics to follow. While the canonization for sainthood is a long process, before the canonization process, martyrs were the saints that people looked up to. Martyrs had been physically harmed and killed for their faith. This idea of self mortification is very real in many of Catholic saint s lives. Self mortification can take on many forms including, but not limited to, fasting and self harm. The Cult of the Saints by Peter Brown discusses the role that the saints and martyrs play in the ... The daily schedule of Saint Rose of Lima included twelve hours devoted to prayer, ten hours devoted to work, and two hours for sleep (Graziano, 2004). This intensive schedule full of pain and suffering began when the Lord became manifest to her, allowing her to know of His holy presence and give her courage and strength in that fact. After this manifestation, Saint Rose of Lima began fasting daily, abstaining from meat, and ate only enough coarse food to sustain her. Her penances continued to become more harsh and she began constantly wearing a metal spiked crown and an iron chain around her waist. At this point she would go days without food and her only rest would be on a bed of broken glass, stone, potsherd, and thorns. Throughout this time of severe harm and injury, there were many apparitions of the Lord to Saint Rose of Lima to help her remain in her suffering for the Lord (Aymé, ... Labor unions were a way to protect Americans from working at dangerous factories or sweatshops. Before any labor unions working was horrible for the people. Anything that could have went bad for them did. They had horrible wages they were lucky if they had enough to eat an occasional meal. Also they mostly never got any break working 15 18 hour shifts. This court case was a case in which the Massachusetts Supreme Court ruled that the common law doctrine of criminal conspiracy did not apply to labor unions. Criminal conspiracy is when two or people agree to commit a crime in the near future. Many people in their jobs were getting hit with that if someone wanted to try something like stealing money and robbing the place many of them were desperate for money because of the little pay they received from their job. And the Commonwealth V. Hunt court case ruled they were not allowed to do that unless they had been caught red handed or had raw evidence. They also had many campaigns that were to help the workers in the factories. The first campaign was at corporation hospital where Roger helped for a well organized, influential anti union organizing committee (Penny 91) . At first the court thought of the campaigns of just people trying to get what they wanted and it was never going to work but after they saw many people really putting in the effort to get what they want it really made people think like maybe we are treating these people badly and they want change. One would think people in the twenty first century would learn that categorizing people does not yield a beneficial outcome. Despite conclusive evidence against it, schools around the country are classifying students by intellect using a system called tracking. Although many institutions have utilized tracking to improve their schools, they are taking the wrong approach. If you decide to add class levels to your school system, the quality of of your district would deteriorate. Reading comparisons indicate a statistically significant lower achievement associated with early tracking. Similarly, the mathematics results are always lower with early tracking. (Hanushek 12) As any sports enthusiast knows, It s better to play up . This means that playing among skilled players and challenging oneself makes you a better player than playing with a team that doesn t push one s limits. Why shouldn t this phrase pertain to academics? When surrounded by advanced learners, students will pick up on their habits and techniques. Another problem with school levels is created when diligent students have trouble with tests. The placement test can t make an accurate guess at their intelligence level because the students don t perform on tests as they do in class. They would be placed in a lower level than they deserve, and those kids would be taught basic concepts when they have the capability to learn advanced material. Learning, a crucial aspect of education, will diminish if you implement class levels. Due to the dysfunctionality, negative mindset of students, and diminished quality of education, class levels would hinder your school system. The many problems with school levels overshadow the few benefits. As Dr. Jeanne Oakes pointed out, tracking is a practice that is very popular, very common, that s based on a flawed theory, and for which there is almost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ancient Rome helped frame architecture in the Early Renaissance, in comparison will be discussing three buildings in Italy that were influenced by classical heritage. I will discuss is a town house identified as the Palazzo Rucellai, built by Leon Battista Alberti in Florence, Italy. Alberti was known to be a humanist, which was a belief that Greeks and Romans practiced. (Dr. Beth Harris and David Zucker Alberti, Palazzo Rucellai ). It was believed that humans and their lives were more, or just as important as the Gods. Humanists also believed that God(s) made humans with a specific talent. According to the dictionary Humanism sparked interest in a system in which human interests, values, and dignity were becoming a central motif for artisans. This building was an important commission that Alberti had completed for a wealthy merchant family known as the Rucellais, and was built after the wealthy Medici family built their palazzo. According to Dr. Beth Harris and Dr. Steven Zucker, Alberti wrote multiple books. One of those books was titled The Architecture of Leon Battista Alberti Ten Books on Architecture, and was considered the most important book of architecture after the famous Ten Books on Architecture written by the ancient Roman Vitruvius. This poem later gets pretty violent and gruesome. However, many people think Beowulf is a Christian poem. Others say it isn t. Beowulf is a Christian poem and not a pagan one for many reasons. Beowulf comes along and slays the beast to save all the people, acting as a savior to all these needy folks. He barely knew these Danish people yet he came and saved their lives. The Danes thought of him as their savior sent to them by God. He came out of nowhere and saved their lives. He put himself in harm s way to protect the group of people he barely knew. Jesus did that in His life by saving all of us (Matthew 18). He came and defeated the beast which was death and rose again on the third day. Though Beowulf didn t die and come back to life, he did do some very Christ like actions as a man. He saves lives just as Jesus did. Now, Jesus Christ was long dead by the time this poem was written. However, if this book was a pagan book, how could the Anglo Saxons even find ways to compare Beowulf to Jesus Christ. They wouldn t even know who he is. The author of this book knew who Jesus was and based his main character after Him. Who could be a better main character than a man who resembles Jesus Christ? Really nothing can beat that. The author of the poem had a genius thought when writing it by letting Beowulf be like Jesus. This proves again that Beowulf is a Christian book and no a pagan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

One standard argument against the overall value of Facebook is that staying in such an online and direct way in touch is something that is interesting only for the younger generation . That is maybe true or not. But there is another aspect. If you are for example a senior developer and you are not interested in staying in contact with your Contacts automatically then maybe you are interested in the potential business opportunity: Facebook is not only encouraging developers to create their own applications that will run inside Facebook (on top of the platform). The Facebook platform has also build in a simple but effective mechanism to promote the usage of your newly created application: All Contacts of any new user of your Facebook application will get (in exactly the same way as already described) a notification that these users just started to use your application. • 12. Essay On Why Cats Are Better Pets Than Dogs Cats are not better pets than dogs. Have you ever had that intriguing question about whether you should get a dog or a cat as your new family member. Here are some reasons why you should always choose to adopt a new dog, not a new cat. You will get more exercise from owning a dog. When I go outside to bike, often my mom will follow me to get our dog exercise, but this technique will help my mom in the long run, because even if her motive is to wear my dog out, she s also getting exercise and getting healthier. Dogingtonpost says it is recommended that you walk your dog at least 15 minutes, twice a day. Mayoclinic says to aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day. These two times equal each other so if you walk your dog for the necessary amount each day, then you yourself will also get the necessary amount of exercise daily. Dogs are a lot easier to train. When dogs were first bred as wild animals they would follow their pack leader, when domesticated their leader becomes their human. When you train a dog it becomes bonded to you, but cats, not so much. Cats are more independent when it comes to relationships. Because cats have no notion of duty, service, or pack behaviour. In other words, doing something for the sake of something else, or someone else, than themselves. Says Nuno Desa. Dogs come in more shapes and sizes. Malinowski tries to justify his claim that myth can help us understand the behaviors and customs of the people who tell them. Puritans And The New England Puritans were a group of English Protestants who believed that the Reformation of the Church of English was still to stuck on Catholic formalities and wanted to simplify and regulate types of worship. The Puritans left England out of a need to purify the church and their own lives. They followed the writings of John Calvin to America and formed The Massachusetts Bay Colony. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was one of the original settlements, settled in 1630 by a group of about 1,000 Puritan refugees from England, under the guidance of Governor John Winthrop. In 1929, The Massachusetts Bay Colony received a charter from King Charles I allowing them to colonize in New England between the Charles River and the Merrimack River. The Puritans created a government with theocratic rule which was limited to church members. The Puritans initially settled in Boston in 1630. After Boston, they settled in Cambridge, Lexington, Concord, Watertown, Charlestown, and Dorchester. The Puritan population, in New England, rose from 17,800 people, in 1640, to 106,000, in 1700. The beliefs of the puritans were simple and straightforward. They believed that the Bible was God s true law and it provided the blueprints for a righteous life. Between the years 509 BCE and 120 CE the Romans developed their dominance of the ancient world. Their location was key to their reign as it allowed trading throughout the Mediterranean sea. Their ability to create infrastructure was a tactic they used to further define themselves as a global superpower. They were able to create a complex road system that allowed them to travel and trade with nearly everyone around them. They also built a water system so advanced there was a choice in temperature. These developments would ve been meaningless without the inhabitants. The citizens of the Roman Empire were broken down into classes; there are debates as to whether or not this was beneficial. Regardless, the social structure greatly affected this civilization. The Roman civilization constantly surpassed standards that no one had ever attempted to change. They were certainly a force to be reckoned with. The Mediterranean Sea was a central component of the Roman Empire. With several societies nearby the Romans were able to trade constantly. Anderson is able to confirm and strengthen his standpoint by the fact that it was during one of the greatest milestones of the 1960s, the Vietnam War, that for the first time in the history of the US, the government was subjected to criticism and attacks against their ways . This can be evidenced by the fact that Americans, which were majority college students, took to the streets to protest government action. The library, although a more unusual setting was much more like something from a vampire story, it was dark and empty. To add tension the producers used scary disjointed music to try and set the scene and the camera moves in onto a newspaper article, to which you can read the headline which refers to a missing teenage boy. Lorex Pharmaceuticals Essay Cougar Consulting Memo To: Carter Blakely From: Charles Johnson of Cougar Consulting Date: 3/15/2011 Re: Fill Rate for 10 ounce bottles of Linatol Introduction Lorex Pharmaceuticals recently gained FDA approval to market and sell a new product called Linatol. This memo will address the need to select a target amount to which each 10 ounce bottle of Linatol will be filled. The analysis of several target fill rates was conducted to determine the one that maximizes the contribution per case, therefore generating the maximum revenue for Lorex Pharmaceuticals. This ideal fill rate will allow more bottles to be sold at the full retail price of $186 and limit the under filled ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For each target fill rate the proportion of bottles filled correctly had to be determined. This calculation provides a breakdown between cases that can be sold for the full amount of $186 and cases that are designated as seconds, which are sold for 80% of the full price or $148.80. Revenue per case grows continuously as the target fill rate increases. From the blending costs which include $67,662 of active ingredient per 5000 liters, and blending labor of $432 per 5000 liter batch the cost per ounce of medication is approximately $0.40. This provides input for the active ingredient cost. Based on the labor cost of $8.50 per hour at 12 cases per hour, the input for rework cost per case is approximately $0.70 per case. Contribution per case is derived from the revenue minus the costs. The contribution per case is the performance criteria that our decision is based upon. Results A balance between revenue and cost is seen at a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. The revenue per case is greater when the bottles are filled to 10.5 ounces; however the resulting increase in the active ingredient cost produces a lower contribution per case. The recommendation is to use a target fill rate of 10.4 ounces per bottle. Initially there will be an increased cost of active ingredients but in the long ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Under the Black Flag Cordingly, David. Under The Black Flag: The Romance And The Reality Of Life Among The Pirates. Harcourt, Inc.: Orlando, FL, 1997. Part 1: Summary The point of this book was to put aside the myths about pirates and replace them with facts. There are many fictional myths about pirates and their lives on the sea. Many books and movies have built pirates up to be romantical heroes instead of the ruthless savages they were, so this book focuses on separating fact from fiction about life as a pirate. Many plays and books such as Peter Pan, Treasure Island, and many others have used pirates as characters for many years. Many of us grew up watching pirates on television, but most of the time in pursuit of entertainment the truth is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Although some pirates were not as barbaric as others, they were all criminals who broke the law. Also included in this book is what happened to pirates when they were caught by the government. If convicted of piracy it often meant a sure death by hanging. Many times the bodies of pirates were hung over harbors and around ports as a warning of the consequences of being a pirate. The government hoped that these drastic measures would help quell the raids of pirates. So this book lets us know that even though pirates have a romanticized appearance, in all reality they were criminals who had their own way of life. Part 2: Personal Analysis This book is awesome. I had the mot fun reading it than I ve had in awhile. This book was very interesting, and it made learning about pirates fun rather than just dumping a lot of facts on you. It helps the public experience the mentality of the pirate. Even though pirates were usually oppressed seamen who turned to piracy, they were still ruthless, stone cold criminals. This book uses a lot of literature and fabricated stories, but the reason for this is because there is not a lot of documentation of pirates. Some facts have been changed around while the stories were being retold, and this is the main point of the book; to get back to the root of who pirates really were. One example of pirate mentality is when Captain Cary s ship was attacked by ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 33. Time and Motion Study * Model for the construction industry using pre determined times Jasper Van Gilsa, Leo Vaningelgema Abstract This paper is based on our work experience with Office line. This company prepares standard times for companies in the industrial sector. Standard time is productive time that is required and achieved by an employee. Standard time contains everything that is necessary for the work specified to be completed. The reason why Office line only prepare standard times for the industrial sector rather than the construction industry is due to the repetitive nature of the work. One example is the car industry which uses assembly lines. In the construction sector, this kind of repetition is not so evident. There is repetitiveness in some ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This includes that we have to make a more than one measurement to become a reliable average for these tasks. A second importance that we need to take notice of using chrono, is the performance level at which the employee is working. An execution time of a specific person can not be used as a reference for or employees and as a consequency we can t set these specific times as standards. Tools that can help us by adding a tempo to our measurements are tempo scales. These scales will make sure that execution times will be calibrated and that we become standard times. Standard times can be executed by any valid employee in a social acceptable space of time. Bedaux scale This tempo scale was designed by the Frenchman Bedaux. He saw that not all employees were working at the same performance level. So he had the idea to add a value from 0 to 100 to the performance levels where 100 stands for the maximum pace which can only be performed for a short period and zero for doing nothing at all. A score of 60 is the level every valid employee should be able to perform for a complete week, 8 hours per day. For his scale, Bedaux compared the working tempo with walking (60) and running (100) that we know starts from a speed of 7,5 km/h. Walking at the speed of 4,5 km/h matches the score of 60 Bedaux points. Berenschot scale * For some people the Bedaux scale was a bit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. God s Grandeur By Gerald Manley Hopkins At the beginning of the 19th Psalm, David writes, The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of his hands. Gerald Manley Hopkins seems to echo this theme in his poem, God s Grandeur. The interesting aspects of this poem are a result of Hopkins different perspectives on nature. In the beginning of the poem, Hopkins directs his focus on the glory of God through the lens of the world. There is then a turning point where he diverts his attention to the problems mankind inflicts upon creation. However, the closing of the poem involves him stepping back and reflecting upon the eternality of God. God s Grandeur is interwoven with powerful imagery that is evoked by elaborate double entendres that reflect the interaction between humans, nature, and the eternal grandeur of God that surpasses Earth, which though temporary, is under constant care from God despite our actions. The first stanza provides an interesting dynamic between creation and man. Hopkins writes, The world is charged with grandeur of God. / It will flame out, shining from shook foil... (1 2). The first two lines provide an interesting double entendre. When Hopkins writes, The world is charged with the grandeur of God (1), is evokes the imagery of electricity. Thus, the shook foil mentioned in the second line characterizes the world of having bursts of energy and light similar to when light is shone upon metallic surfaces like foil. The other interpretation comes from ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
