This document discusses trucks and hauling equipment used in construction. It describes how trucks provide relatively low-cost hauling due to their high travel speeds and flexibility. Trucks can operate on haul roads as long as the surface and grades allow. Larger off-highway trucks are used for hauling on large construction sites. Trucks are classified based on dumping method, engine/fuel type, drive type, wheels/axles, material hauled, and capacity. Rigid frame and articulated rear-dump trucks are commonly used and their advantages and limitations are outlined. Productivity is affected by truck size, with trade-offs between small and large trucks. Safety practices for truck operations are also highlighted.
