Modern Medicine Has Been The Development Of Antibiotics1
One of the significant advances in modern medicine has been the development of antibiotics1.
Innumerable lives have been saved by the use of antibiotics, which still remain the backbone of
therapy for bacterial infections. The first ОІ lactam, penicillin G (benzylpenicillin [fig 1, compound
1]), was discovered by Fleming in 1928, and introduced as a clinical antibacterial agent in the early
1950s. Penicillin was of great clinical significance and its success incited the exploration for and the
development of further derivatives. This pursuit augmented the clinical use of ОІ lactam antibiotics
in the present age (penicillins, narrow and extended spectrum cephalosporins, monobactams, and
carbapenems [fig 1, compounds 1 to 7])2. All these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Bacteria are constantly developing antibiotic resistance mechanisms to enhance their growth and
survival. Therefore, there is an ever present need for new and effective antimicrobial drugs
(derivatives). In view of this emerging antimicrobial resistance, two major strategies have been
advanced to sustain the efficacy of ОІ lactam antibiotics: (i) discover or design ОІ lactam
antibiotics that are able to evade bacterial enzymatic inactivation conferred by ОІ lactamases, or (ii)
inhibit ОІ lactamases so the partner, ОІ lactam can reach the penicillin binding proteins (PBPs), the
target of ОІ lactam antibiotics7. Despite the resistance posed by ОІ lactamases in conjunction with
DD peptidases, PBPs still remain attractive targets for antibiotic compounds.
Mechanism of action of ОІ lactam Antibiotics ОІ lactam antibiotics are vital weapons for the
treatment of bacterial infections. They demonstrate their bactericidal effects by inhibiting enzymes
involved in cell wall synthesis. The bacterial cell wall is an integral component that maintains the
cell shape of the bacteria in a hypertonic and hostile environment8. The rigid cell wall
(peptidoglycan) provides the tensile strength needed to withstand high osmotic pressures that would
otherwise cause the plasma membrane to rupture9. The peptidoglycan is made of alternating N
acetylmuramic acid (NAM) and

Good Will Hunting Essay
A studious young man, an open book these two images swirl around the screen in a kaleidoscope
effect, this was the introductory scene of quot;Good Will Hunting. quot; This scene is followed by
Ben Afflick, knocking on Will s door, when Will comes out a credit rolls by that says,
quot;screenplaywritten by Ben Afflick and Matt Damon, quot; just as the two walk side by side.
This shows how perfectly the makers of this movie have everything timed, down to the credits.
Also, the timing shows when the professors assistant and Will are alone and the assistant tells Will
how lucky he is to have someone believe in him as the professor does. Just as he finishes saying
this the professor walks in and suddenly the assistant has something better... Show more content on

When Will is trying to solve a formula he writes his work on his mirror with a dry erase marker.
The camera blurs out will and focuses on the formula and also does the opposite. While writing the
formula out, the shots fade to the same shot but at a different angle creating a feeling that some
time is passing by. Also, to support this feeling each time the formula is showed there is more
added to it than one can write in the brief moment that it took to come back to it with the camera.
Additionally, the benefit of having the scene of him writing on the mirror lets the viewer see
him concentrating on the formula and lets the viewer see the formula being written out which
shows the viewer how intelligent Will must be, since the formula probably made little sense to
him or her. Another effect was a fight scene captured in slow motion. After the fight scene the
cops showed up and many flashes of the scene from different camera angles appeared creating a
feeling of confusion and made it seem speeded up without it being filmed in fast motion. During
this movie many close ups were filmed where the eyes were the only bit of color on the screen.
When Will starts talking to prove a point, which is several times through out the movie, the
camera zooms in on him concentrating on his eyes. However, while Will and his friends were in
the car the camera looks at each one individually from a distance while mellow music is playing

Arguments Against Conformity
I formally agree with most of what Feys conveys as his ideas of conformity and why in our
society it is a big deal of whether or not people should conform by the will of others. Feys main
argument against the normality of conformity is when he states, Living in society, we are under
constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority. Most people of society
have agreed to this statement without replying to this direct comment but everyone knows the
idea of peer pressure in which an individual is emotionally pushed to do something that was not
wanted of them. We see the issues of peer pressure in a number of places, for example, in a study
by Thomas J Berndt a professor of developmental psychologyconducted an experiment

Homeless People And The Homeless Essay
Think about what it is like, not knowing where you will end up sleeping tonight, or when your
next meal or shower is going to be, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness there
were about 600,000 homeless people in America in January of 2015. This paper will hopefully
spread insight on homelessnessas a whole. There are many misconceptions about homeless people
and many facts that people do not realize about homeless people. These facts should be brought
to attention in order to help increase the knowledge of what normal everyday individuals can do
to help. Every day we are surrounded by someone who is homeless and we don t even know it.
People tend to have a false interpretation of what a homeless person looks like, the reasons for them
becoming homeless, and even how to help them.
There are many different factors that cause people to become homeless. The leading causes of
homelessness in America are not having enough affordable housing, a lack of income,
unemployment, poverty, and domestic violence. The reason people can become homeless can be
the result of one specific event which occurs, or it could be due to a kind of snowball effect
which occurs, where one small event leads to another and then another, until the end result is not
having a house anymore. While interviewing Katrina Knight, the executive director of Good
Shephard Center for the Homeless, she gave me a good example of this. In a situation where a
couple splits up and there is only one

Independence
As a child, one does not make decisions for oneself. Parents shape the lives of their children into the
person they want their child to become. They put their children into the sports, activities, and
hobbies that they think will take their children down a successful path. Then the time comes when
their child needs to start making decisions on their own. Although the children are not independent
adults yet, this time is a huge part of their transformation from sheltered childhood into independent
adulthood.
Growing up, my parents had me in every sport and activity possible. Soccer, dance, basketball,
softball, cheerleading, you name it. The older I got, the busier I got, causing me to drop all sports

Through those linkages Nag and Gioia were able to draw tree knowledge pathways. The knowledge
adaption pathways describe the track how managerial distinctions emerge to knowledge adaption.
The knowledge augmentation pathways describe the way to the augmentation of knowledge and
the third track describes how it happens that uncommon knowledge is not used.
In the knowledge adaption pathways executives consider knowledge as most important for
operational efficiency. They believe it s hard to obtain from external sources and they have
confidence in their own knowledge but limited trust in workers knowledge. They are scan ning
intensively for knowledge and personally they had a greater share in knowledge work. Firms on
that pathway are adapting knowledge and come more likely to an incremental development.
In contrast described before in the knowledge augmentation pathways leaders have a strong
confidence on own knowledge, on workers capabilities and they believe their know ledge is
distinctive and hard to imitate for competitors. Therefore they are scanning pro actively and
engaging others to knowledge work. These companies use uncommon know ledge through
augmentation. Radical innovations are more likely in those companies.
On the path for no uncommon knowledge use the executives contribute knowledge mostly to raise

Race and Caribbean Culture
Race and Caribbean Culture Each culture is unique in its attitudes about which groups within
the cultural community will comprise the majority and which the minority. The culture also
determines how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified.
Often, differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class.
Throughout literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and
articulate sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary
examples of social inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In
the Caribbean Sea, people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological
inequity, since the first explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker
skins become the slaves of those with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide
Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of
Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean
during the time of oppression of the native peoples by white Europeans and shows just how
disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority regarding racial differences can
truly be. Perhaps the most famous example of literature regarding Caribbean oppression is Wide
Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. In this novel, a white woman named

The Montgomery Bus Boycott Essay
In the late eighteen hundreds, the Reconstruction by Congress was overturned by the Supreme
Court. Segregation or separation by skin color was made a law which was adopted by private
organizations, institutions and businesses (loc.gov). Physical violence and mental harassment was
imposed upon those whom were deemed inferior in color. Some citizens accepted the law, as is,
without question while others believed it was their supreme right to remain separate without
modification. Human activists, that opposed this way of living, pursued an extensive battle to
abolish racial inequity and segregation from American life (loc.gov). During the nineteen hundreds,
many understood this treatment as an offense to human beings and activists began... Show more

to keep the protest alive. As a result, approximately one hundred MIA members were indicted for
disobeying the state anti boycott law. The Alabama Council on Human Relations (ACHR), the

Social Condition In Jane Eyre
Women were pressured to follow and obey the social conditions that were present during the
Victorian era. During the Victorian era when married, women would lose all right to their
possessions and property. Women belonged in the home and were classified as a Domestic Angel
or a Fallen Woman. The social conditions for women in the Victorian eraare acknowledge and
challenged by Charlotte Bronte in her novel Jane Eyre. Through Bronte s use of characters such as
Blanche, Bertha, and Jane she portrays the different social conditions each woman faced.
Bronte depicts the ideal Victorian woman, also known as a Domestic Angel , through her
description of the character Blanche. As described by Bronte in the novel, ... the three most
distinguished partly, perhaps, because the tallest figures of the band were the Dowager Lady
Ingram and her daughters, Blanche and Mary. They were all three of the loftiest stature of women,
(17). Bronte s use of words that coincide with the idealistic version of a woman during the
Victorian era describe how Blanche and her family were perceived by the other characters in the
novel. Bronte describes Blanche as the most distinguished women, consisting of the loftiest stature.
The ideal women during this time would be confined to her home to protect their innocence, moral,
and, domestic paragon. Women were a model of excellence in the home and were meant to stay
that way. When talking to her daughter, Blanche s mother Lady Ingram, says, You see

The Importance Of Sexual Identity Development
The sexual orientation identity development is a theoretical model that conceptualized the
resolution of internal conflict related to the formation of individual sexual identity. For sexual
minority people, it is commonly known as the coming out process (Bilodeau Renn 2005). There
have been many different models elaborated to explain such process. All of them share similar
stages: awareness, crisis, and acceptance (Loiacano 1989). When individuals become aware of their
queer feelings and attraction, they try to block these homosexual feelings by constantly denying
and minimizing them. This mechanism of defense leaves negative sequelae in their overall
psychosocial well being (Bilodeau Renn 2005). Individuals tend to pass by a... Show more content

Nevertheless, this process profoundly differs among Latino and African American it is based on
white middle class gay participants (Lewis and Marshall 2011; Bridges, Selvidge, Matthews 2003).
The unique stressors that Latinos and African Americans face on a daily basis have serious
implication in their mental health (Loiacano 1989). The queerness experience of Latino and
African American folks are very alike. Both ethnic/racial group members not only share culture with
similar features, but they also are exposed to the same systematic oppression experience. Latino and
African American queer people likewise have to deal with racism, xenophobic and homophobic
sentiment, on a daily basis. Such oppression comes from their most meaningful source of support,
which is their family and social community. Both African American and Latino culture share a
similar concept of meaning and purpose of a family as well as religious belief. These are not very
queer friendly and make their community an oppressive environment. It is imperative to examine
the interaction between ethnic/racial and sexual identity and how it affects the psychosocial well
being of sexual minorities. Likewise, to explore how group therapy can be used to their advantages.
Latino and African American: Community, Family, and Religion The sense of belonging to a
community is highly important for Latino and African American. Latino cultural attitudes toward
homosexual identity are often rejecting and scornful

This video goes along with the beginning of the story when the lake is weeping for Narcissus. This
particular Chopin piece has a melancholy feeling to it, which coincides with the mood of the story.
This video has an uncertain mood to it, similar to the feelings that Santiago experiences when he

The pianist s use of dynamics and phrasing, express the emotion of this piece. This emotion
corresponds with the mood of The Alchemist when Santiago meets with the old man for the first

Marie Curie s Popular Images
Although Marie Curie was not the first woman to excel in science or mathematics, she can be
considered the first major woman scientist to receive full credit for her scientific work.
Considering her Nobel prizes alone, she is ranked at the top of the scientists of the modern period.
Despite this, somehow Marie Curies popular images, as well as those embedded in some of the
scholarly literature, suggest important, but rather modest contributions to society (Pycior, 301).

Colin Powell s Influence On The US
Colin Powell has been an influence on the American public since early in his military career, for
example, quickly rising up the ranks from second lieutenant to a four star general in the U.S.
Army. Kinder and McConnaughy (2006) describes Colin Powell as one of the most youthful
African American generals in the U.S. Armed Forces and in 1991 became chairman of the Joint
Chiefs of Staffunder President George H.W. Bush. Powell became a national figure not just to
African Americans, but to the whole American public in the course of the effective Desert
Shield and Desert Storm operations in which ousted the Saddam Hussein Regime from Kuwait.
According to Kinder and McConnaughy (2006) General Powell sustained his position as
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the beginning of the Clinton administration. According to Harari
(2002) during this period Powell s intellectual prowess as a leader and follower are considerably
more noticeable. Powell did not necessarily follow all the time, for example, Lacayo and Van
Voorst (1993) illustrate Powell disagreeing with President Clinton to allow gay men and women to
serve in the military and Powell ultimately accepted a resolution on the matter. After Powell s left
his military career he began other endeavors that became more of his lifetime achievements, for

A Critique of the Movie, The Birdcage (La Cage aux Folles)
A gay couple, living in a gay apartment, with a gay houseboy, above a gay nightclub, in a gay
city . . . and they have to straighten it all out for one evening. In 1996 La Cage aux Folles (a
1978 French play) was remade by MGM into The Birdcage, a daringly flamboyant comedy that is
in tune with the times and redefines the idea of family values. It combines the talents of Robin
Williams (Armand), Nathan Lane (Albert), and Hank Azaria (Agador) with writer Elaine May and
director Mike Nichols. The film is brought to life by the superb uniqueness of each character and
what they bring to the screen and add to the plot. This film sheds a new light on non traditional but

With Albert every little thing that happens is tragic, resulting in a hysterical screech, whine, or
theatrical woe is me pout. He keeps himself on the verge of a nervous breakdown to make sure
he s got everyone s attention. Albert is so maternal he s practically a breast (Nichols) and has been
the sensitive and devoted mother to Armand s son Val (Dan Futtermann) for twenty years. These
attributes cause him to be a truly unique character to both this film and his previous endeavors.
The true beauty of Albert is his fearless presentation of himself. He is who he is and of that he is
proud.
Williams is far more sedate in this film than how we re used to seeing him. He s not swooping
around the screen as he was in Aladdin, nor is he prancing around in a dress like in Mrs.
Doubtfire. In The Birdcage he plays wonderfully (and flawlessly) alongside Lane as Armand, the
masculine half of the couple and father to Val. He is far more subdued (though he does do an
uproarious on stage dance demonstration involving the moves of Martha Graham, Twyla Tharp,
Michael Kidd, Madonna, Madonna, Madonna . . . ) (Nichols) and down to Earth than Albert.
Armand spends most of the movie chasing after Albert and smoothing his ruffled feathers when his
overly sensitive feelings have been hurt. When Val s fiance s (Calista

Parson and Sociology
Parsons most significant contribution to Sociology derives from the supposition that action does
not exist in some vacuous state. Instead he argues that action(s) should be considered within the
context of a broader system comprised of boundaries and the maintenance of such boundaries. He
seems to suggest that appropriating the action system paradigm, to be discussed below, provides the
most useful framework for analyzing social phenomena. In The Structure of Social Action (1937),
Parsons lays the foundations for the establishment of the prevailing theoretical tradition (i.e.,
structural functionalism) in American Sociologyspanning decades. Although this meta theoretical
approach received harsh criticism from conflict theorists in particular, its attempt to bring
sophisticated and careful thinking to understanding how social scientists might examine social
systems should not be dismissed. It is neither my intent nor responsibility to rehearse the
extensions or criticisms offered by later theorists, but, rather, to focus on a few critical aspects of
Parsons initial efforts to engage in an ongoing scholarly conversation. In doing so, I argue that
although Parson s synthesizes the work of classical theorists, he is doing so in an effort to
extrapolate the critical raw materials that might allow him to move beyond classical theoretical
approaches to an analysis of the social world rather than charting a completely new course. The
degree to which I am persuaded by

This first article by Shirley Rosenwasser and Norma Dean shows the underrepresentation of women,
it is shown by two studies made to college students. In Study 1, the masculinity/femininity of
governmental office held positions were analyzed and rated as how feminine or masculine they
were. One hundred thirty three college students were recruited from introductory psychology
classes at Southwest Texas State University (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). Participants were asked to
describe how distinguished they thought each office was, as well as the rate of importance of each
holding office. In Study 2, thirty nine men and eighty three women were recruited again from the
same class (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). However, now they were asked to read one of the four
descriptions of a hypothetical candidate, and they had to base their answers on the hypothetical
example. After, they needed to evaluate the candidates to show their level of efficacy. Estimating
the chances of someone winning the election was the next step. And finally, participants rated the
importance of each presidential task. There was a discussion following the studies, Study 1 showed
that masculine descriptors were far more important than feminine descriptors. And Study 2
showing, that although, women and feminine candidates were rated more competent in feminine
tasks as well as men with masculine tasks, students still rated masculine tasks more

Cooperation And The Requirement Of Stronger Enforcement
cooperation and the requirement of stronger enforcement or more systematic dispute settlement
mechanism. My second hypothesis is that international institutions or treaties of members of
significantly asymmetric national capability will have a stronger dispute settlement mechanism.
That is to say, In other words, an institution that contains asymmetry of power in terms of national
capacity, military capacity, economic capability, and legal resources should have stronger DSMs. In
this situation, powerful states might seek for stronger DSMs for gaining advantage within
institutions. The underlying logic of this idea, based on Allee and Elsig is that many DSMs allow
for both diplomatic and legal dispute settlement, so powerful states can benefit from having a menu
of dispute settlement options that allows them to forum shop even within treaties. (Allee 97) Also,
for weaker countries, stronger DSMs can give weaker countries the equal chance to argue with
more powerful countries under certain framework. Strong DSMs provide relatively weaker
countries such as Mexico has more capability to confront with more powerful countries and boost
their chance to win the confrontation. To prove this hypothesis, I will find asymmetric countries in
size and compare the agreements of these asymmetric countries to some symmetric countries. The
expected conclusion should be that agreement with more heterogeneous countries would have
stronger DSM. There are many existing cases can prove this

limited resources. Additionally, trade schools, college campuses and Universities across the nation

As student needs spike, they are asked to do more with less. In addition, they are coping with
personal pressures: rising costs in college tuition and healthcare; shrinking values in assets like

percent of workers plan to look for another job when the economy improves, according to a
survey released in June by the Adecco Group, a company that helps businesses find temporary

Pros And Cons Of Protetcionism
It allows us to specialize in areas where we have competitive advantage, and buy from other
nations, goods and services, where we do not have comparative advantage. It s a win win
situation because it allows us to use our resources in the most efficient way possible, and
eliminate waste. Unfortunately it s a very political issue, and often times minority groups get
special treatment to the detrement of the rest of us. This is called protetcionism. For example,
take a sugar tarrif. The US government can make imported sugar more expensive by imposing
tarrifs on it. By doing this, local sugar can farmers can charge a higher price for their own sugar

Frankenstein Chapter 1 Letters Analysis
Letters
The first letter opens with R. Walton informing his sister that he is safe in St. Petersburgh. From
the first page of Walton s writing I can see that his relationship with his sister is very close; from
the language of his writing I can see that he truly cares about the person who is to receive his
letter. On the 2nd page of his letter he states that going to the North Pole has been an aspiration
for him since he was young. It states that Walton is a glory seeker and is not tempted when
money is a sacrifice for glory. His 2nd letter addressed to his sister takes place in Archangel where
he has hired a vessel and is collecting crewmembers. This indicates that Walton is most likely a
member of the upper class. So far, Walton is a somewhat... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

It informs that their brother William was murdered the night before. Promptly, Victor packs his
bags and returns to his hometown in Geneva to mourn the loss of his brother. Because, he is late
entering his city s gates he is allowed a lot of downtime; during this time Victor returns to his
brother s murder site and at the scene notices a large, bulky, hideous tall creature in the trees.
Immediately, he knows that the murderer of his brother is the object he created himself. The two
years that passed between the creation of his monster and the murder of his brother, William, what
was the monster doing? Was he just roaming around in the forest aimlessly? If so how did the
monster know that Victor s family resided in Geneva? This murder proves that the life form he
created is certainly intelligent and embodies feeling and attitude. I predict that the monster was
motivated to kill William not because he enjoyed murder but because he wanted to get Victor s
attention. Because the monster has never been in contact with humans it knows no other way of
getting a person s attention. The result of this murder was a false accusation of a girl, which ended
up in capital punishment for the innocent girl. The only person that knows the truth is Victor. Just
like Dorian, the overwhelming sensation of and remorse will lead to their eventual downfall. This

Essay On Ancient South America Religion
Religions of Ancient South America emerged from expressions of internal engagements with
external factors. In ancient South America it was seen how the environment and landscapes aided
in the shaping of the cosmology of ancient religions. A wide known religion that arose from this
matter was the Inka religionbut this traces further back to the cultural ancestors of the Inka, the
Chavin. The Chavin and preceding religions were ongoing developments and continuities that were
inherited and built upon earlier expressions. The Chavin is known as the Early Horizon because it
was a religion that was the first Pan Andean religion that would pass on its practices and
cosmologies to preceding civilizations. As mentioned earlier these religions were... Show more

In the Preceramic we find evidence of religious traditions that are later on seen again in the
Chavin and preceding Andean religions but each. For example in Chinchorro from the
Preceramic we see the mortuary practice of mummification. Michael E. Moseley author of The
Incas and Their Ancestors: The Archaeology of Peru explains, ...artificial mummification of
corpses was a social distinction conferred upon important people who were generally born to
privileged status... (Moseley, 100). The mummies of Chinchorro were conserved in an unusual
way: wooden shafts would be added as support for certain body parts; the body cavities would be
filled; coats of clay were applied to the exterior. The mummies were made accessible to the living
for a reasonable amount of time before disposing of them by interment. Moseley explains that this
mortuary practice reflects the Andean belief that the bodies needed to be physically intact in order
to enter the afterlife and join their ancestors. Similarly, the Chavin adapted this practice, but
executed it in a different manner. During the Chavin corpses were ...placed in a flexed seated
position and bound with cords to maintain the pose... (Moseley, 161). The body was

Dutch Slave Trade Essay
Dutch Slave Trade
During the 17th and 18th centuries, mercantilism was the emerging economic policy through which
the slave trade developed in Europe. In the Netherlands many historical events gave rise to a desire
for domination of international trade. They were serious tradesman and were heavily involved in
the profitable business of slavery. The Dutch, intelligent and self ruling tradesmen took no time in
displaying their dominance over rival countries, Portugal, England and Spain, in the Atlantic and
Indian Ocean. They established their international superiority in trade and impacted today s society.

The Dutch didn t take long to make their presence felt. The quote from the book The Slaves
describes their attitude coming into the trade, The Dutch, fiercely independent, and aggressive
traders...did not take long to establish themselves internationally. The Dutch were determined to
control the trading power in West Africa. By mid 16th century, the Dutch had set up posts along
the West African coast, and forts in present day Indonesia. The Dutch also controlled most of the
Eastern Sea and had set up forts along the Caribbean and the coast of Dutch Guiana. The Dutch
were very bright when it came to technological advances. One example of their knowledge was
the invention of the canal and irrigation tactics. The Dutch intelligence in trade soon overcame
the Portuguese in Africa. First off, the Dutch armed their boats and also trained the sailors. This
system will prevent rivals and enemies to sink their ships or purge their cargo from the ship. The
Dutch also raided particular forts, which gave them good geographic points on the map, and
limited the power of their rivals. These forts were ports for trading routes, where ships may need
supplies, and were also loading areas for

Social Media And Its Impact On Business
When many people think of and use social media they only think of it from a personal view.
However, more and more companies have discovered that this electronic network can be used for
business purposes as well. Social media can provide a platform for companies to share knowledge
and opinions, and announce information to their audience of followers. It can also generate
valuable data about how a company s customers think, shop, vote, and spend their leisure time.
Many companies have incorporated social media in their business to better communicate with
customers, better communicate with their supply chain, educate, and increase their visibility.
Today s marketplace is highly competitive and it is crucial for companies to think of innovative
new ways to stay ahead of the competition. Communicate with customers Humans yearn for social

Homeowner Fire Safety
Any homeowner with a decent amount of land can enjoy the pleasures of their very own fire pit
by merely acquiring the right materials and tools to complete this project. A shovel, steel rake,
tape measure, level, and spray paint are the are the required tools. The homeowner should decide
on the material he or she wants for the barrier. This includes cast concrete stones, bricks, or a metal
ring. With careful consideration of the firecode in the ordinance, a safe spot is picked. The spot
must be at least twenty feet away from any buildings or structures for the safetyof the homeowner

not to puncture any unknown utility lines. The homeowner must then pour either sand or gravel
into the hole, leveling afterward. The next step is building the fire barrier, consisting of either cast
concrete stones, bricks, or a metal ring. The homeowner stacks the desired building material,

Feminism and Art History
The history of mankind has often been captured in snapshots between the rise and fall of great
leaders and civilizations, by artists all with a common dream of portraying what they saw during
their times. Ideologies reflective of their societies were depicted through sculptures, frescoes,
pottery, paintings, and many other methods. Many of these principals were created, celebrated,
and popularized by constituents of societies where andocentric values were applied not only to
social and political mores, but also to the various art forms as the male body was cherished and
praised and the female body was hidden away from public view. The book Feminism and Art

Kampen concludes by discussing how the image of women portrayed the idealistic views of
women as caretakers who stayed at home , and works of art supported this by depicting women
as В…mythological or entertaining, or as an adjunct to the patron s own status; otherwise she

of working women and that s why the views of working women were limited. The visual
portrayals of gender and status in Roman society stand as a bridge linking the work of art and
the work of society together as one. The final chapter that I read was one I found extremely
conflictant and interesting because not only did we touch on some of these topics in class, but
when I visited the Metropolitan Museum I actually had some of the same issues with the works I

one of the more fascinating chapters and discussed the distorted views of women as vessels that the
Devil could use to entrap a man and cause him to fall from God s grace, during medieval times and
reinforced by the Catholic Church. Monasteries were places that men could go and abstain from
worldly pleasures, proving their dedication to God and refraining from anything that could cause

The Evil Within No Country for Old Men Essay
Good and evil have existed since the beginning of mankind. Good defends the righteous, as evil
has been bent on destruction. In today s society, many people believe that good will always
triumph over evil. The murderer will eventually be caught by the police; the carjacker will one
day meet his doom; the superhero will defeat the evil villain. Simply, in some circumstances, this
is not entirely true. Good does not always prevail over evil. This is exceptionally true in the movie

existed since the beginning of mankind. No Country for Old Men displays the works and

Gun Control Portrayal Analysis
Gun control has been debated in American History for decades yet it still persists today. We need

government continues to sit at a standstill with regard to guncontrol. The Republicans have no

Importance Of The Second Vatican Council
What was the Second Vatican Council Church?
The second vatican council was the 21st representative of different catholic churches recognised by
the Roman catholic church. It was organised by Pope John the thirteenth on January 25, 1959 in
Saint Peter s Basilica, Vatican city, Rome and existed until 1965. It s purpose was to renew the
spiritual relations of the church so that they may reconsider the church practises and also pray with
other denominations (A religious denomination is a secondary group within a certain religion that

important as it offered change to the churches which allowed it to evolve and grow with the world.
Many documents had to be signed by an assembly of Roman Catholic church leaders.

where the family of the dead stays up during the night rather than sleeping, to keep watch on the

changes meant the following: the Vigil could be informally arranged anywhere the family wanted it

Customer Service and Relationship Marketing
Customer Service
Customer service is an art and a science and it is something that many firms do not do well, let
alone perfect. Excellent customer service is defined by being pleasant with the customer and
providing them with assistance regarding just about anything and everything that they require and
need relative to the service or good that they are purchasing. A customeris any buyer or even
potential buyer of the good or service being and the customers need and/or expect that the good
or service be reasonably price and be delivered as promised based on what is advertised and/or
what is commonly accepted and industry standard about the good or service. The best way to
build a customer focused strategy is to construct a framework and process that is as common

from harm? Oh, yes, the goddess replied, everything except the mistletoe. But the mistletoe is so
small and innocent a thing that I felt it superfluous to ask it for an oath. What harm could it do to
my son? Immediately after hearing this, Loki located the mistletoe, and brought it to where the
gods were playing their new favorite game. He approached the blind god Hod and said, You must
feel quite left out, having to sit back here away from the merriment, not being given a chance to
show Baldur the honor of proving his invincibility. The blind god

Corporate Dinner Swot Analysis Essay
The analysis of the SWOT s for each business identified the forces that influence the strategies that
need attention or are innovative. Splitting the columns up into strengths and weaknesses allowed
for an objective look at which strategies would prove to be more profitable. The Corporate Dinner
initially looks like it is good business with potentially have 350 expected guests. With a time frame
of one hour, many drinks will not be poured. Alcohol has a high profitmargin, where a lot of
money can potentially be made. The average person may have 2 drinks total. The costof each drink
is high which will result in profit. The bartender will just have to push the higher priced drinks to
maximize the short time frame. There is an estimate of 350 guests. This could be 50 people or the
total 350. Food cost will fluctuate with the number of people attending. You can t cost out how
much each item will be or how much to make per person at this stage with an estimated count. The
menu prices are not inclusive of the 23% servicecharge and the 10% DC sales tax. This means that
you will be making money. The service charge and sales tax will be added on top of the initial bill.
Charging for parking is also advantageous. That money is a direct profit because each person is
paying for their own. There is no one to pay or a middle man, since it is self serve. Most people
will use the reserved parking because it is safer and easier. It will probably be dark by the time

Themes Of Existentialism As A Way Of Life
Existentialism
It is a philosophy which emphasizes individual existence, freedom, and choice. It is the view that
humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an
irrational universe. This philosophy focuses on the question of human existence, and the feeling
that there is no purpose or explanation at the core of existence. It holds that, as there is no God or
any other transcendent force, the only way to counter this nothingness (and hence to find meaning
in life) is by embracing existence. Contrary to Absurdism (though it is always connected to it),
which seeks the inherent value and meaning of life and the human inability to find it, Existentialism
is the means of finding a meaning in life and accepting it without question. Existentialism ideas

Existentialism as a Way of Life Philosophy should not be thought of primarily either as an attempt
to investigate and understand the self or the world, or as a special occupation that concerns only a
few. Rather, philosophy must be thought of as fully integrated within life. The concept of
philosophy as a way of life manifests itself in existentialist thought in a number of ways
1.Immanence
Philosophy studies life from the inside. For Kierkegaard, for example, the fundamental truths of my
existence are not representations, rather, the truths of existence are immediately lived, felt and acted.
B. Anxiety and Authenticity Human existence is in some way on its own ; anxiety (or anguish) is
the recognition of this fact. Many existentialists tended to stress the significance of emotions or
feelings. Related to anxiety is the concept of authenticity, which says existentialist spin on the
Greek notion of the good life . Certainly, if authenticity involves being on one s own , then there
would seem to be some kind of value in celebrating and sustaining one s difference and
independence from others.

Strengths And Weaknesses Of An Interview
When you are facing an interview, no matter what position or company you have applied for, the
hiring manager will definitely throw a question that demands a candidate to talk about his strong
and weak points. While some recruiters might straightforwardly put this question, others might
twist and frame it in confusing phrases or make you imagine a hypothetical situation. Although
preparing answers in advance can help you answerthis tricky questionwell, merely parroting them
won t earn you the brownie points or tell the interviewer who you really are.
The strength weakness pair question is an opportunity to convey why you are an apt candidate for
the position. While answering questions that point out your flaws in the middle of an interview
might seem awkward, this is a common practice followed by the hiring managers to understand
what qualities a candidate possesses that will aid him/her to succeed in the job and judge whether
the person is capable of overcoming obstacles.
How to answer What is your greatest weakness?
Every person has some imperfections that usually one dreads to admit especially in an interview
when the ultimate aim is to cast an impression on the hiring manager. Even though the recruiter is
not expecting a hundred percent honest answer, this section of an interview is intentionally designed

Iran Contra Scandal Research Paper
Iran Contra Scandal
After reading the article of Henkin on the Iran contra scandal, The Constitution for its Third
Century: Foreign Affairs I do agree that Congress should have the ability to steer foreign affairs by
withholding appropriations. The Constitution of the United States provides extensive powers meant
to shape foreign policy via the activism of the congressional representatives. This has a great
impact on foreign policy. However, the powers have changed over time.
The lawmakers rarely have direct interaction with the policies of other nations. However, the laws,
treaties, as well as nominations approved by the Senate can influence the interactions of the United
States to other Nations. Accordingly, foreign policy has depicted

Vivendi Vs Gameloft Case Study
4.2 Vivendi vs Gameloft
4.2.1 Overview
Vivendi is known for aggressively acquiring companies through financial pressure for some time
now, as observed with Havas (Vivendi, 2017), Dailymotion (Lunden, 2015) and buying CanalPlus
s joint owner s stakes (Keslassy, 2013). So as the trend goes, Vivendi wanted to return to the video
game industry and chose the largest mobile games developer, Gameloft, acquiring it through a
hostile takeover in 2016. The structure of the takeover as well as what caused it are detailed in
further sections.
4.2.2 The Process
In the October of 2015, Vivendi bought 6% shares in Gameloft and immediately within a week
increased it 10%, causing a small panic in Gameloft s upper management, issuing a public
declaration from Gameloft as well as its sister company Ubisoft, saying that Vivendi s involvement
was quite unwelcome (Morris, 2016) (cited in Nutt, 2016).
On February 2016, Vivendi again upped its share to 30%, forcing them to make a formal bid for
ownership of Gameloft according to the French Mergers and Acquisitions Law (Kerr, 2016),
detailed description of the law can be found in Appendix C. Although, proposition of the offer
was mandatory for Vivendi, Gameloft had no such reservations about accepting and it was made
clear with their statement, The offer launched by Vivendi has no strategic interest for Gameloft
(cited from Nutt, 2016). After the initial rejection, Vivendi proposed to purchase all of Gameloft
s share for a rate of €6 per share as opposed to the market price of €4, this was a fifty percent
premium profit for all of Gameloft s shareholders, but as bargaining goes the shareholders upped
the offer to a rate of €8/share which was double the stock price (Keslassy, 2016), ultimately
leading Vivendi to reject the Michel Guillemot s plea and acquiring Gameloft under its banner.
4.2.3 Causes of the Takeover
Moving on, to dissecting the acquisition, there are a few circumstances which were not directly in
Gameloft s yet were directly responsible for Vivendi s hostile takeover of Gameloft. They are
detailed below as follows:
Not So Big Fish In A Small Pond. Gameloft was a leading mobile developer with massive yearly
revenues, but this was only restricted to the video games

Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan
While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the
influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991
interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable
elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to
think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said
with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example,
are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many
different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly
stated.
From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not
sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following
you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who
Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a
music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional
character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is
when the song is said to have been written.
While there are many lines in the song/poem that could easily be viewed

Humor of South Park Essay
Manbearpig: Half Man, Half Bear, Half Pig, but All Global Warming? South Park is a popular
animated comedy series written by Trey Parker and Matt Stone. While the episodes of South
Park are always humorous on the surface, each show usually has a deeper, much more profound
meaning and moral. One episode of South Park entitled Manbearpig, named after the monster in
the episode, has a particularly potent deeper meaning. On the surface, the episode pokes fun at
monster stories, politics, and specifically Al Gore. Deeper down, however, this monster story can
be read as a national allegory alluding to the dangers of global warming, the problems with the
politics behind global warming, and the eventual doom we will all face if we do nothing... Show

Al Gore tells the student body that he is there to warn them about the single biggest threat to
human existence, a horrible monster named Manbearpig. Al Gore further goes on to describe the
monster s appearance. He states that Manbearpig is half man, half bear, and half pig (South
Park). This pokes fun at the typical monster in literature. The impossible ratio of man, bear, and
pig shows how monsters can be considered scary regardless of how ridiculous they may actually
be when analyzed literally. While Manbearpig is not necessarily intended to be scary to the
audience of South Park, it is intended to be scary to the students by Al Gore. In fact, the attributes
of Manbearpig are similar to those of many different monsters throughout literature. Manbearpig is a
creature that is a mixture of man and animal. This is a characteristic attributable to many monsters
in literature. For example, the werewolf addresses this same fear about crossing line between man
and animal. Man animal Strauss 2 hybrid monsters are scary because they can have the intellect of
man but an animalistic nature. They are also unnatural and present the question of where they
originated. Additionally, man animal hybrid monsters are scary because they imply that a human
can become part animal. This is, it may be possible, either willingly or unwillingly, to become a
man animal hybrid. Al Gore

Broken Window Theory
Dr. Wilson and Dr. Kelling offer several benefits to police foot patrol and its application to broken
windows theory and order maintenance. There are many points that resonates with me that are
effective and ineffective about their work regarding broken windows theory and order
maintenance. The broken window theory is a method that if minor crimes are just left unaddressed
and nothing is done about it then, a situation for additional severe crimewill be developed due this.
So in the really world the broken window is seen as effective in order to preservation of the law,
which helped reduce crime rates. For example in this theory, in order to reduce crime in a certain

Milking Is A Great World Leading Milking Technology
AMS
AMS, a new era in milking is a great world leading milking technology allowing greater
flexibility on milking times as farmers do not have to focus on Dairy premises as frequently,
eliminating the need to be tied to the dairy for long periods of time and milk cows at regular set
times. This frees up the operator s time and energy and allows the operator to shift their focus to
other priorities.
Automatic Milking is a big ticket investment. It has the potential to completely change the way we
milk our cows and manage our farms. The labour and the lifestyle implications are many and
varied. It s gone beyond just milking, it s more of a milking/monitoring system with the cow taking
charge of its own milking schedules.
Single and multi box robots and the Automatic Milking rotary (AMR) enables for full voluntary
cow traffic, remote supervision and milkings to be distributed through the 24 hour day. Hence, there
collective term, labelled Automatic Milking Systems (AMS).
Single and multi Box robots
The AMS robotic boxes were originally designed for the European small herds that are housed
indoors most of the years. Some robotic boxes include, the Delaval VMS (Voluntary Milking
System), Lely Astronaut, GalaxyStarline AMS and Merlin AMS. FutureDairy research has proven
single boxes can operate effectively in Australia s pasture based system, achieving both high
pasture utilisation and acceptable AMS unit utilisation. However are best suited to milk 60 to 70

Alcohol Behavioral Couple Therapy ( Abct )
Alcohol Behavioral Couple Therapy (ABCT) is used with individuals who have an alcohol use
disorder, this therapy also includes their partners. ABCT is an outpatient treatment therapy based
on an Intimate partner behaviors and couple interactions can be triggers for drinking, and positive
intimate relationship is a key source of motivation to change drinking behavior. McCrady and
Epstein (2004) explained the goal of ABCT is to help a client achieve a state of abstinenceand
maintain it, teach partners how to handle situations pertaining to drinking, and enhance the overall
relationship.
Treatment Protocol
Accord to Farrell and Fals Stewart (2006) BCT is a 12 session process, each session has a
corresponding checklist for the therapist to complete. The first session is called: Introduction,
Recovery Contract, Catch Your Partner Doing Something Nice. The checklist would require the
therapist to introduce themselves and make the clients feel welcomed. The therapist would then
explain in more detail what BCT is and why it is important. The third part of this checklist would
be to explain promises and to ask for a verbal commitment for the clients to keep promises in the
upcoming weeks. Part four gives an overview of each session that is to come in the upcoming
weeks, while part five discusses trust discussion and a recovery contract. The next part of the
checklist would talk about how to catch your partner doing something nice, followed by assigning
at home practice.

  • 2. Modern Medicine Has Been The Development Of Antibiotics1 One of the significant advances in modern medicine has been the development of antibiotics1. Innumerable lives have been saved by the use of antibiotics, which still remain the backbone of therapy for bacterial infections. The first ОІ lactam, penicillin G (benzylpenicillin [fig 1, compound 1]), was discovered by Fleming in 1928, and introduced as a clinical antibacterial agent in the early 1950s. Penicillin was of great clinical significance and its success incited the exploration for and the development of further derivatives. This pursuit augmented the clinical use of ОІ lactam antibiotics in the present age (penicillins, narrow and extended spectrum cephalosporins, monobactams, and carbapenems [fig 1, compounds 1 to 7])2. All these... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Bacteria are constantly developing antibiotic resistance mechanisms to enhance their growth and survival. Therefore, there is an ever present need for new and effective antimicrobial drugs (derivatives). In view of this emerging antimicrobial resistance, two major strategies have been advanced to sustain the efficacy of ОІ lactam antibiotics: (i) discover or design ОІ lactam antibiotics that are able to evade bacterial enzymatic inactivation conferred by ОІ lactamases, or (ii) inhibit ОІ lactamases so the partner, ОІ lactam can reach the penicillin binding proteins (PBPs), the target of ОІ lactam antibiotics7. Despite the resistance posed by ОІ lactamases in conjunction with DD peptidases, PBPs still remain attractive targets for antibiotic compounds. Mechanism of action of ОІ lactam Antibiotics ОІ lactam antibiotics are vital weapons for the treatment of bacterial infections. They demonstrate their bactericidal effects by inhibiting enzymes involved in cell wall synthesis. The bacterial cell wall is an integral component that maintains the cell shape of the bacteria in a hypertonic and hostile environment8. The rigid cell wall (peptidoglycan) provides the tensile strength needed to withstand high osmotic pressures that would otherwise cause the plasma membrane to rupture9. The peptidoglycan is made of alternating N acetylmuramic acid (NAM) and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Good Will Hunting Essay A studious young man, an open book these two images swirl around the screen in a kaleidoscope effect, this was the introductory scene of quot;Good Will Hunting. quot; This scene is followed by Ben Afflick, knocking on Will s door, when Will comes out a credit rolls by that says, quot;screenplaywritten by Ben Afflick and Matt Damon, quot; just as the two walk side by side. This shows how perfectly the makers of this movie have everything timed, down to the credits. Also, the timing shows when the professors assistant and Will are alone and the assistant tells Will how lucky he is to have someone believe in him as the professor does. Just as he finishes saying this the professor walks in and suddenly the assistant has something better... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Will is trying to solve a formula he writes his work on his mirror with a dry erase marker. The camera blurs out will and focuses on the formula and also does the opposite. While writing the formula out, the shots fade to the same shot but at a different angle creating a feeling that some time is passing by. Also, to support this feeling each time the formula is showed there is more added to it than one can write in the brief moment that it took to come back to it with the camera. Additionally, the benefit of having the scene of him writing on the mirror lets the viewer see him concentrating on the formula and lets the viewer see the formula being written out which shows the viewer how intelligent Will must be, since the formula probably made little sense to him or her. Another effect was a fight scene captured in slow motion. After the fight scene the cops showed up and many flashes of the scene from different camera angles appeared creating a feeling of confusion and made it seem speeded up without it being filmed in fast motion. During this movie many close ups were filmed where the eyes were the only bit of color on the screen. When Will starts talking to prove a point, which is several times through out the movie, the camera zooms in on him concentrating on his eyes. However, while Will and his friends were in the car the camera looks at each one individually from a distance while mellow music is playing while it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Arguments Against Conformity I formally agree with most of what Feys conveys as his ideas of conformity and why in our society it is a big deal of whether or not people should conform by the will of others. Feys main argument against the normality of conformity is when he states, Living in society, we are under constant pressure to surrender our individuality to the will of the majority. Most people of society have agreed to this statement without replying to this direct comment but everyone knows the idea of peer pressure in which an individual is emotionally pushed to do something that was not wanted of them. We see the issues of peer pressure in a number of places, for example, in a study by Thomas J Berndt a professor of developmental psychologyconducted an experiment ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Homeless People And The Homeless Essay Think about what it is like, not knowing where you will end up sleeping tonight, or when your next meal or shower is going to be, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness there were about 600,000 homeless people in America in January of 2015. This paper will hopefully spread insight on homelessnessas a whole. There are many misconceptions about homeless people and many facts that people do not realize about homeless people. These facts should be brought to attention in order to help increase the knowledge of what normal everyday individuals can do to help. Every day we are surrounded by someone who is homeless and we don t even know it. People tend to have a false interpretation of what a homeless person looks like, the reasons for them becoming homeless, and even how to help them. There are many different factors that cause people to become homeless. The leading causes of homelessness in America are not having enough affordable housing, a lack of income, unemployment, poverty, and domestic violence. The reason people can become homeless can be the result of one specific event which occurs, or it could be due to a kind of snowball effect which occurs, where one small event leads to another and then another, until the end result is not having a house anymore. While interviewing Katrina Knight, the executive director of Good Shephard Center for the Homeless, she gave me a good example of this. In a situation where a couple splits up and there is only one ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 11. Race and Caribbean Culture Race and Caribbean Culture Each culture is unique in its attitudes about which groups within the cultural community will comprise the majority and which the minority. The culture also determines how the minority culture will be treated and how the two groups will be classified. Often, differentiation of groups is determined by race, rather than things like religion or class. Throughout literary history, authors have endeavored to capture the past as well as recreate and articulate sociological inequalities within that past. Issues of race, being one of the primary examples of social inequality, often appear in controversial and important works of literature. In the Caribbean Sea, people have had to deal with centuries of racial prejudices and sociological inequity, since the first explorers arrived on the island and demanded that those with darker skins become the slaves of those with light skin. Three particular works of literature, Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys, The Kingdom of This World by Alejo Carpenter, and The Farming of Bones by author Edwidge Danticat have recreated the historical scenarios of life in the Caribbean during the time of oppression of the native peoples by white Europeans and shows just how disturbing and destructive attitudes of superiority and inferiority regarding racial differences can truly be. Perhaps the most famous example of literature regarding Caribbean oppression is Wide Sargasso Sea, by Jean Rhys. In this novel, a white woman named ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some citizens accepted the law, as is, without question while others believed it was their supreme right to remain separate without modification. During the Victorian era when married, women would lose all right to their possessions and property. Women belonged in the home and were classified as a Domestic Angel or a Fallen Woman. The social conditions for women in the Victorian eraare acknowledge and challenged by Charlotte Bronte in her novel Jane Eyre. • 14. The Importance Of Sexual Identity Development The sexual orientation identity development is a theoretical model that conceptualized the resolution of internal conflict related to the formation of individual sexual identity. For sexual minority people, it is commonly known as the coming out process (Bilodeau Renn 2005). There have been many different models elaborated to explain such process. All of them share similar stages: awareness, crisis, and acceptance (Loiacano 1989). When individuals become aware of their queer feelings and attraction, they try to block these homosexual feelings by constantly denying and minimizing them. The queerness experience of Latino and African American folks are very alike. Both ethnic/racial group members not only share culture with similar features, but they also are exposed to the same systematic oppression experience. Latino and African American queer people likewise have to deal with racism, xenophobic and homophobic sentiment, on a daily basis. Such oppression comes from their most meaningful source of support, which is their family and social community. Both African American and Latino culture share a similar concept of meaning and purpose of a family as well as religious belief. These are not very queer friendly and make their community an oppressive environment. It is imperative to examine the interaction between ethnic/racial and sexual identity and how it affects the psychosocial well being of sexual minorities. Bush. Powell became a national figure not just to African Americans, but to the whole American public in the course of the effective Desert Shield and Desert Storm operations in which ousted the Saddam Hussein Regime from Kuwait. According to Kinder and McConnaughy (2006) General Powell sustained his position as Chairman of the Joint Chiefs in the beginning of the Clinton administration. According to Harari (2002) during this period Powell s intellectual prowess as a leader and follower are considerably more noticeable. Powell did not necessarily follow all the time, for example, Lacayo and Van Voorst (1993) illustrate Powell disagreeing with President Clinton to allow gay men and women to serve in the military and Powell ultimately accepted a resolution on the matter. A Critique of the Movie, The Birdcage (La Cage aux Folles) A gay couple, living in a gay apartment, with a gay houseboy, above a gay nightclub, in a gay city . . . and they have to straighten it all out for one evening. In 1996 La Cage aux Folles (a 1978 French play) was remade by MGM into The Birdcage, a daringly flamboyant comedy that is in tune with the times and redefines the idea of family values. It combines the talents of Robin Williams (Armand), Nathan Lane (Albert), and Hank Azaria (Agador) with writer Elaine May and director Mike Nichols. • 19. Parson and Sociology Parsons most significant contribution to Sociology derives from the supposition that action does not exist in some vacuous state. Instead he argues that action(s) should be considered within the context of a broader system comprised of boundaries and the maintenance of such boundaries. He seems to suggest that appropriating the action system paradigm, to be discussed below, provides the most useful framework for analyzing social phenomena. In The Structure of Social Action (1937), Parsons lays the foundations for the establishment of the prevailing theoretical tradition (i.e., structural functionalism) in American Sociologyspanning decades. Although this meta theoretical approach received harsh criticism from conflict theorists in particular, its attempt to bring sophisticated and careful thinking to understanding how social scientists might examine social systems should not be dismissed. It is neither my intent nor responsibility to rehearse the extensions or criticisms offered by later theorists, but, rather, to focus on a few critical aspects of Parsons initial efforts to engage in an ongoing scholarly conversation. In doing so, I argue that although Parson s synthesizes the work of classical theorists, he is doing so in an effort to extrapolate the critical raw materials that might allow him to move beyond classical theoretical approaches to an analysis of the social world rather than charting a completely new course. One hundred thirty three college students were recruited from introductory psychology classes at Southwest Texas State University (Rosenwasser Dean, 1989). My second hypothesis is that international institutions or treaties of members of significantly asymmetric national capability will have a stronger dispute settlement mechanism. That is to say, In other words, an institution that contains asymmetry of power in terms of national capacity, military capacity, economic capability, and legal resources should have stronger DSMs. In this situation, powerful states might seek for stronger DSMs for gaining advantage within institutions. The underlying logic of this idea, based on Allee and Elsig is that many DSMs allow for both diplomatic and legal dispute settlement, so powerful states can benefit from having a menu of dispute settlement options that allows them to forum shop even within treaties. (Allee 97) Also, for weaker countries, stronger DSMs can give weaker countries the equal chance to argue with more powerful countries under certain framework. Strong DSMs provide relatively weaker countries such as Mexico has more capability to confront with more powerful countries and boost their chance to win the confrontation. To prove this hypothesis, I will find asymmetric countries in size and compare the agreements of these asymmetric countries to some symmetric countries. The expected conclusion should be that agreement with more heterogeneous countries would have stronger DSM. There are many existing cases can prove this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It s purpose was to renew the spiritual relations of the church so that they may reconsider the church practises and also pray with other denominations (A religious denomination is a secondary group within a certain religion that abides under a common name, tradition, and identity). The Second Vatican councilwas extremely important as it offered change to the churches which allowed it to evolve and grow with the world. Many documents had to be signed by an assembly of Roman Catholic church leaders. The Vigil (aka Wake) Before Vatican ll, the Vigil, commonly known as wake is a holy day when the family of the deceased or others that were close, gathers around the dead one to pray for that person, remember their loved ones life and comfort one another. It is an occasion of religious observance where the family of the dead stays up during the night rather than sleeping, to keep watch on the deceased. However, after Vatican ii came into play there were many changes to be made. These changes meant the following: the Vigil could be informally arranged anywhere the family wanted it to be, as long as the place was respectful. Baldur was a generous, joyful, and courageous character who gladdened the hearts of all who spent time with him. When, therefore, he began to have ominous dreams of some grave misfortune befalling him, the fearful gods appointed Odin to discover their meaning. Odin mounted his eight legged steed, Sleipnir, and rode him to the underworld. When he reached the cold and misty underworld, he found the halls arrayed in splendor, as if some magnificent feast were about to occur. He soon found out that guest of honor for this festivity was to be none other than Baldur. Odin returned in sorrow to Asgard, the gods celestial stronghold, and told his fellow gods what he had been told. Frigg, wanting for any chance of saving her treasured son, went to every thing in the cosmos and obtained oaths to not harm Baldur. After these oaths were secured, the gods made a sport out of the situation. They threw sticks, rocks, and anything else on hand at Baldur, and everyone laughed as these things bounced off and left the shining god unharmed. Loki saw an opportunity to cause mischief and took it. In disguise, he went to Frigg and asked her, Did all things swear oaths to spare Baldur from harm? Oh, yes, the goddess replied, everything except the mistletoe. But the mistletoe is so small and innocent a thing that I felt it superfluous to ask it for an oath. What harm could it do to my son? Immediately after hearing this, Loki located the mistletoe, and brought it to where the gods were playing their new favorite game. He approached the blind god Hod and said, You must feel quite left out, having to sit back here away from the merriment, not being given a chance to show Baldur the honor of proving his invincibility. • 43. Themes Of Existentialism As A Way Of Life Existentialism It is a philosophy which emphasizes individual existence, freedom, and choice. It is the view that humans define their own meaning in life, and try to make rational decisions despite existing in an irrational universe. This philosophy focuses on the question of human existence, and the feeling that there is no purpose or explanation at the core of existence. It holds that, as there is no God or any other transcendent force, the only way to counter this nothingness (and hence to find meaning in life) is by embracing existence. Contrary to Absurdism (though it is always connected to it), which seeks the inherent value and meaning of life and the human inability to find it, Existentialism is the means of finding a meaning in life and accepting it without question. • 46. Vivendi Vs Gameloft Case Study 4.2 Vivendi vs Gameloft 4.2.1 Overview Vivendi is known for aggressively acquiring companies through financial pressure for some time now, as observed with Havas (Vivendi, 2017), Dailymotion (Lunden, 2015) and buying CanalPlus s joint owner s stakes (Keslassy, 2013). So as the trend goes, Vivendi wanted to return to the video game industry and chose the largest mobile games developer, Gameloft, acquiring it through a hostile takeover in 2016. The structure of the takeover as well as what caused it are detailed in further sections. 4.2.2 The Process In the October of 2015, Vivendi bought 6% shares in Gameloft and immediately within a week increased it 10%, causing a small panic in Gameloft s upper management, issuing a public declaration from Gameloft as well as its sister company Ubisoft, saying that Vivendi s involvement was quite unwelcome (Morris, 2016) (cited in Nutt, 2016). On February 2016, Vivendi again upped its share to 30%, forcing them to make a formal bid for ownership of Gameloft according to the French Mergers and Acquisitions Law (Kerr, 2016), detailed description of the law can be found in Appendix C. Although, proposition of the offer was mandatory for Vivendi, Gameloft had no such reservations about accepting and it was made clear with their statement, The offer launched by Vivendi has no strategic interest for Gameloft (cited from Nutt, 2016). After the initial rejection, Vivendi proposed to purchase all of Gameloft s share for a rate of €6 per share as opposed to the market price of €4, this was a fifty percent premium profit for all of Gameloft s shareholders, but as bargaining goes the shareholders upped the offer to a rate of €8/share which was double the stock price (Keslassy, 2016), ultimately leading Vivendi to reject the Michel Guillemot s plea and acquiring Gameloft under its banner. 4.2.3 Causes of the Takeover Moving on, to dissecting the acquisition, there are a few circumstances which were not directly in Gameloft s yet were directly responsible for Vivendi s hostile takeover of Gameloft. They are detailed below as follows: Not So Big Fish In A Small Pond. Gameloft was a leading mobile developer with massive yearly revenues, but this was only restricted to the video games ... Profound, Poetic Rock and Roll by Bob Dylan While it is widely rumored that many of Bob Dylan s songs were written while he was under the influence of various drugs, I m not so sure that those rumors are accurate. Following a 1991 interview conducted by Paul Zollo with Bob Dylan, Zollo stated that There s an unmistakable elegance in Dylan s words, an almost biblical beauty and that Dylan s answers give you a lot to think about while not necessarily revealing much about the man . (Zollo 2) The same can be said with regard to many of the lyrics of Dylan s songs. The lyrics to Mr. Tambourine Man, for example, are wildly descriptive and sometimes confusing and can leave a listener (or a reader) open to many different interpretations, some more complex than others, with no real meaning ever being clearly stated. From the first chorus where the singer is speaking to a Tambourine Man telling him that he s not sleepy and there is no place he s going to , but in the jingle jangle morning he ll come following you (lines 1 4), there is confusion. Some guess that the Tambourine Man is a drug dealer, who Dylan follows to get his fix. Others say that he is a musician who played the tambourine during a music session with Dylan at one time. Some speculate that the Tambourine Man is a fictional character who was created by Dylan after attending a Mardi Gras celebration, which, incidentally is when the song is said to have been written. While the episodes of South Park are always humorous on the surface, each show usually has a deeper, much more profound meaning and moral. One episode of South Park entitled Manbearpig, named after the monster in the episode, has a particularly potent deeper meaning. On the surface, the episode pokes fun at monster stories, politics, and specifically Al Gore. Deeper down, however, this monster story can be read as a national allegory alluding to the dangers of global warming, the problems with the politics behind global warming, and the eventual doom we will all face if we do nothing... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Al Gore tells the student body that he is there to warn them about the single biggest threat to human existence, a horrible monster named Manbearpig. Al Gore further goes on to describe the monster s appearance. He states that Manbearpig is half man, half bear, and half pig (South Park). This pokes fun at the typical monster in literature. The impossible ratio of man, bear, and pig shows how monsters can be considered scary regardless of how ridiculous they may actually be when analyzed literally. While Manbearpig is not necessarily intended to be scary to the audience of South Park, it is intended to be scary to the students by Al Gore. In fact, the attributes of Manbearpig are similar to those of many different monsters throughout literature. Manbearpig is a creature that is a mixture of man and animal. This is a characteristic attributable to many monsters in literature. For example, the werewolf addresses this same fear about crossing line between man and animal.
