Rich Vs. Poor In America
The Rich versus Poor in America
America; the land of opportunities. How many times have we heard this phrase in our lives? This is
the promise land and here, you will be treated equally and will be guaranteed freedom and justice.
Maybe it is so in legal terms. However if we look closely, there are many injustice going on that is not
protected by our constitution. Perhaps the most obvious one is the difference between the rich and the
poor or the haves and the have nots. First line in the constitution states; all men are created equal. Is
that so? I see a tremendous disadvantage being born to a family of poverty than being born to the
wealthy family. It s not a just a matter of being able to be educated properly but a life or ... Show more

Mrs. Edmunds is heart broken by this story. Its hurt her even more when she heard that Mr. Johnson
didn t seem to be able to hold a funeral for the baby. Because of the type of person she was, she was
afflicted over what she should do. Should she go out and buy herself clothes, which she has long
wanted? Or should she donate her money to Mr. Johnson for his daughter s funeral? Thinking about
this gave her headaches. Her morals choose to give the poor baby a funeral and she hurries to Mr.
Johnson. But she was a bit too late. Mr. Johnson, with nothing to do, has given the baby to student
doctors. Now, the ten five dollar bills, which she literally worshiped all of a sudden, changed to stones
in her purse. The money, which has chosen the destiny of a small child that must have had so much
ahead in her life, was too much of a weight for her. It was the money that killed the child, not
pneumonia. Feeling extreme anger and depression toward money, she hides the money as atonement
toward the guilt she felt of her incapability to make up her mind. Only if she were a couple of hours
faster, the baby would have at least had a burial place instead of being used in some experiment. That
guilt just would not leave her mind. The Gift of the Magi was a very similar type of story. It is about
two very loving couple, Della and Jim Young, again, very idealistic except for the fact that they were
extremely poor. They

The National Missile Defense System is the First Step to Another Cold War and the United States
Should Not Do It
As we begin the twenty first century, an increasing number of states around the world are acquiring
nuclear capabilities. The sense of insecurity by individual governments is driving many states into
developing and testing ballistic missiles. In the mean time, the United States finds itself in a position
to develop new technology that will protect themselves against these potential missile strikes. The
development of a national anti ballistic missile defense system has sparked many controversies around
the United States. Advocates of the system argue that it is only a defensive measure, but they fail to

Disturbed by the Rumsfeld report, Capital Hill responded immediately by passing two bills. The first
bill known as S. 257 stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy as soon as is technologically
possible an effective National Missile Defense system capable of defending the territory of United
States against limited ballistic missile attack . The S.257 was followed by a second bill named H.R. 4
passed in March of 1999 that stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy a national missile
defense. (Policy.com)
The proposal of the National Missile Defense System by Capitol Hill is a clear example of the
international security dilemma, where the United States desire to become more secure compromises
other states security. By setting up a missile defense to escape the power of other states, this will only
create insecurity in the international arena that will prompt other states to react with their own missile
defense system. This dynamia can also be seen through the prisoner s dilemma diagram (Figure 1).
The United States fears for the worst possibility so it arms itself to increase its protection. It does not
trust the other players in the international community and does not want to

BSHS/312 Models of Helping People
Systems Theory Paper Those who study systems theory tends to view any system as the result of a
dynamic interrelationship between its component parts and its whole. They view the parts as mutually
determinate with the whole. Social workers utilizing systems theory view societies and social groups
as dynamic systems. They are concerned with bettering the conditions of the individuals who make up
such systems. (Flamand, 2010) Systems theory is used by many social workers. This theory helps

Ivan Boszormenyi Nagy is also a contributor to this therapy (Parrott, III, 2003). This theory is based
on helping maintain a positive family structure and to prevent further emotional damage to the
children or any other person in the family. There are several things that can be done in order for the
help families work through a traumatic experience. When you are counseling a person that has been
subjected to a family prone to alcoholism this child tends to show different ways of functioning and
you have to take that into consideration as to how to proceed. Family therapy is often encouraged
when you are trying to repair a family that has gone through a crisis because this can show them that
they can work together as a team to get past the issue. In most other therapies, the counseling session
has two individuals present, the counselor and the client. According to PsychologyCampus.com (2004
2008), family systems therapy is based on the idea that individuals are best understood through
assessing the entire family (para. 1). This is where family therapy differs and can be challenging.
There may be two family members in therapy, for example, in marriage or couples counseling.
However, there may be multiple individuals, for example, a large family who needs family therapy.
Either way, the relationship between the counselor and family members will be

1984 Personal Response Essay
Fear is something all humans share. This unity of having fear connects all of us together, along with
many other things. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In
the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of
which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to
fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The concern about the truth of history and
truth of the past, that the people in power are always watching you, and not being allowed to have real
emotions except towards the government are all fears brought on in the novel, especially with the
implications of the ending. As much as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ultimately this all leads up to the ending, with 2 + 2 = 5. Mathematical laws of addition would show
that the equation of 2 + 2 would equal 4. Yet what is shown by the party s manipulation is that it is
possible to make someone believe that 2 + 2 = 5. By physically and mentally completely breaking
people down to an almost breaking point, it is possible to reprogram their thought process to really
think it equals five. This

can lead to innovation. Moreover, managing innovation and change is not an absolute easy process as
it seems, as it requires lots of human interaction with different backgrounds, contexts, cultures that
require aligning all your human resources to respond to new innovations, and related changes and this
will only be done via good and efficient leadership. Generally, innovations and related changes may

The Ultimate Gift You make a living by what you get; you make a life by what you give, said Winston
Churchill, and as I grew up, my mother lived by that quote. She always told me that I should be kind

Functional Behavior Assessment
Subject and Setting
The subject is a three year old boy named Levi who has been diagnosed with autism. The setting for
his observation is in his home and front yard at 11:00 am with his mother and little brother present.
His mother reports that he has recently been sick with a cold and is getting restless. It has been five
days since he has had any school services and the date of the observation is the first day he has been
well enough to have visitors. There are no other reported medical or physiological factors that are
known to influence the target behavior.
Target Behavior
The problem behavior being observed is self injurious behavior. Self injurious behavior is
operationally defined as: projecting head into forceful contact with any surface and forceful contact
between hand and head/face. Levi s self injurious behavior occurs hourly at a severe intensity, thus
posing a physical threat to his safety. Engaging in this behavior also impedes Levi from
communicating his needs using verbal language and acquiring additional functional skills. For these
reasons, a Functional Behavior Assessment (FBA) should be performed in order to determine the
cause ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The direct observation data show antecedent behaviors that corroborate this information, but the
consequence stimuli do not appear to maintain this function. If Levi repeatedly gets the tangible item
or activity, he learns to use that behavior to achieve his desired outcome (Alberto and Troutman,
2013). Following the seven instances that Levi engaged in self injurious behavior during the
observation, he was denied access to an activity (going outside), over seventy percent of the time.
Thus, it is unlikely that gaining access to a tangible is the primary function of his behavior, as he is
denied access to playing outside as a result of his self injurious

Unemployment Is A Key Macroeconomic Indicator
Unemployment is a simple term in itself but the concept is not as clear cut as it may suggest.
Unemployment is a key macroeconomic indicator used by policymakers to determine the economy s
performance relative to it s productive potential (OECD, 2014). However, for it to be a reliable
indicator there must be a commonly accepted definition to allow for comparison. The United
Kingdom follows the internationally agreed definition of unemployment set by the International
Labour Office (hereinafter: ILO) as Anybody who is without work, available for work and seeking
work. This includes those who have actively sought work in the last 4 weeks, available to start work in
the next 2 weeks, or is waiting to start work in the next 2 weeks (Geneva 1982, Cited by International
Labour Office). The Labour Force Survey (hereinafter: LFS) is a sample survey covering a three
month period that is consistent with the ILO definition, this allows for cross country comparisons. It is
a direct assessment of unemployment is used to establish those that are employed, unemployed or
economically inactive. Another means of unemployment measurement is the Claimant Count, it s a by
product of administrational data collected by records of those on job seekers allowance. For the sake
of this essay I will not be focusing on the Claimant count due to it underestimating unemployment
figures as seen in below in Figure 1. Figure 1: Quarterly changes in Unemployment and the Claimant

Case Analysis Of Asiana Airlines Flight 214
Asiana Airlines Flight 214 Lalith Gopalakrishnan Embry Riddle Aeronautical University February 21,
2016 Summary In this Aviation human factors case analysis, I am going to evaluate and conclude the
primary and secondary human factors contributed to the Asiana Airlines flight 214 crashed at San
Francisco International Airport (SFO), San Francisco, California which resulted in 3 fatalities, 187
minor injuries and 49 serious injuries out of 309 people aboard on July 6, 2013. To evaluate the
primary and secondary human factors contributed towards the accident of Asiana Airlines Flight 214,
the use of online searches and NTSB reports will be examined. Asiana Airlines flight 214 is a
scheduled passenger flight from Incheon International Airport near Seoul, South Korea, to San

Saturday morning, the Boeing 777 200ER aircraft operating the flight, crashed when on a final

Analysis Of The Book American Way By Gary Althen
I was always interested in understand wf the american (capitalize proper nouns) culture. When I first
came here I noticed that americans are really independent and self reliant individuals, so for the
research I chose the topic American friendship so I could understand better what americans think
about friendship. According to the author of the book American Ways (written by Gary Althen with
Janet Bennet), americans do not like to feel dependent on someone or that someone become V
dependent on them. The author also said that americans have different groups of friends. Friends to go
to the movie, to study, and so on. For my research I interviewed 15 americans, namely 12 students of
the University of Arkansas and 3 older friends of mine (a couple and one other friend) that I met
because of a program of the UofA. The interviewees were between 20 and 50 years of age. Some of
the students I already knew and a few others was s/v random students. My survey had simple
questions that I though sp would be interesting to ask. Such as(P), what do they expect from a
friendship, what are they prepare VT to give for a friend and if they have any international friends.
Since I am a art international student and for me it has been a little hard to get to know them as a
friend, I thought about this last question. The interviewees seemed surprised when I asked about the
type (gender) of friends they had. Both male and female was he majority of art. responses (87%). Only

Analysis Of Intimidate Partner Violence
This essay has been written to address intimidate partner violence which is one of the most prevalent
type of violence against women worldwide. Intimidate partner violence includes sexual abuse as well
as physical and emotional abuse moreover, controlling behaviour by a threaten partner. However, in
the past, the most countries in the EU have seen intimidate partner violence as a private matter. Only
in the 1990s that attitude changed and violence against women has emerged the attention by the
highest level of fundamental rights where parties of the state has the duty to protect the individual and
therefore, to safeguard victims (FRA European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, 2012, p. 7).

The model demonstrates the interaction between individual, relationship, community and societal
factors (CDC, 2015). The first level identifies individual factors which can increase the likelihood to
become a victim or a perpetrator. Individual factors can be; the age, low level of education, but also
violent childhood, sexual abuse in childhood as well as alcohol and drugs and personality disorders
(CDC, 2015 and WHO ,2012, p.4).The second level of the model describes the relationship factors;
this can be conflicts in the partnership such as displeasure or the women has a higher education as her
partner which leads to /or increase low self esteem by the male partner but also economic inequalities
can be crucial ( CDC,2015 and WHO ,2012, p.4).The third and fourth level ( community and societal
factors) developed through diverse studies with regard to intimidate partner violence and demonstrates
the influences of environment such as poverty, social acceptance of violence, belief of gender role and
misconstruction of norms, such as the man has the right to discipline the women or the women
deserves punishment ,but also low social and economic status are determined ( CDC ,2015 and WHO
,2012, p.4).Studies occupy that intimate partner violence has massively physical and
psychosomatically consequences to the victims. Moreover, other pathways such as chronic sicknesses
such as depressions, phobias and other disease can arise. Accordingly, to the WHO (2012) and FRA
(2012) survey, women who experienced domestic violence have a higher risk to commit suicide
compared with women in a non abusive relationship. In addition, violence can lead to reproductive
health consequences such as abortion, unwanted pregnancies, miscarriages and negative sexual
behaviour. Above all, evidence shows that also the

Starbucks has many unhealthy options but if you were to get the healthiest beverage there it would
probably be water. Yep you heard me right plain old, bottled water. Every other drink is horrible for
your health. But the second healthiest beverage there would be the tazo tea with 0 calories, 0g total
fats, 0g total carbohydrates, 0g sugar (I know that s a little surprising), and 0g or everything . But is
zero of everything good, I don t think so, because you need those macronutrients to give energy to
your body energy and you re supposed to have big quantities of macronutrients. The macronutrients
include: carbohydrates sugar/glucoses, and protein. So that s why the tazo tea is not the best option
because it doesn t help you. Now for the unhealthy options; let s take for example the famous vanilla
bean Frappuccino with no wiped cream. It has 200 calories, 3.5g of total fat, 39g of total
carbohydrates, 36g of sugar, ad 3g of protein. Yet if you want to add sweetened wiped cream that
would be another 50 calories, 5g of total fat, 1g of total carbohydrates, 0.3g of protein, and 1g of
sugar. Now here s a short list of unhealthy drinks at Starbucks: so in third is the tazo green tea
Frappuccino blended; it s so creamy and milky and that s a whole 290 calories for a tall. Second is the
white chocolate mocha, highly fattening and 310 calories for again a tall. The first on my list is my
personal favourite, the double

How Does Nathaniel Hawthorne Use Biblical Allusions In The...
Throughout the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses several biblical allusions to emphasize the
Puritan society this novel was set in and give the reader a comparison of Hester to biblical figures,
both holy and unholy. The Puritan society was one of strict adherence to the Bible and its teachings;
consequently, Hester s sin is not easily forgiven. Through his use of biblical allusions Hawthorne
provides the reader with a historical figure that portrays characteristics or aspects similar to that of
Hester. Hester s curious child, Pearl, is both a blessing and a curse. She completely changed the course
of Hester s life, at a great price. This is comparable to the pearl of great price, mentioned in Matthew
13:45 46. The pearl of great price refers to a man who would give up everything for a pearl, similar to
Hester and her conveniently named child. From the moment Hester became pregnant with Pearl, she
gave up her life, becoming an outcast, and being forced to live apart from the society. It was a great
price for Hester to pay, but a mother s love is one of the strongest things on this Earth, and that can be
seen through her actions. For her Pearl, both literal and figurative, Hester did whatever was necessary
to ensure a future for her daughter and keep a promise she made to the man she loved. The center ...

The Existence Of Crop Circles
Crop circles are strange shapes in crops that people believed where UFOs landed, or the work of Earth

Crop circles are patterns that appear in fields. These crop circles are normally made by flattening any
crop. The most commonly flattened crop is cereal, but the crops have varied from tobacco, wheat,
barley, rice paddies, or even wild grass. Crop circles have happened so recently, that they have become

has been seriously considering going into design for some time, may already know a bit about design,
I thought it a good idea to let you know about what a few of the sources I have been reading have to
say about being a designer. Also, I wanted to let you know what these sources say in regard to the
place of designers and of designers work in the larger society. Unfortunately, I will not be able to give
you the full run down, but I have chosen the best just for you. Jumping ahead a bit to my summary of
findings, I found that designers have special responsibilities lot of them. They have to think about the
people with which they work, the consumers of their designs, the manufacturers of their designs, and
the nature of the material with which they work. Also, design should not be thought of as a way in
which people show mastery and control over the world. To do this is a bad idea because it can have a
negative impact on a person s morals. Now that I have given you an overview of my findings, I will
let you know more about how I came to these conclusions.
In deciding whether designers have any special responsibilities, I found the articles A Buddhist
Perspective on Industrial Engineering and the Design of Work by Wei Tau Lee, James A. Blumenthal,

Sophie Neveu And Chicago Robert Langdon
If this story was relocated to modern Chicago Robert Langdon would have been brought in for
interrogation immediately. Rather than being summoned to a private seeing at the crime scene to be
asked his opinion on the complicated message that Jacques Sauniere could have been portraying.
Sophie Neveu wouldn t have been able to rescue Langdon from the crime scene. They would have to
face major legal consequences, if she was able to. Since the Holy Grail quest required much traveling
outside of the united states their traveling expenses would be through the roof. Possibly putting their
whole journey on hold until further notice.
In this book there is one point of view. Robert Langdon, Sophie Neveu, Silas, Bezu Fache, Bishop

out a riddle that Jacques Sauniere left them before he died and is leading them on from beyond the

Jacques Sauniere was murdered he called Sophie and left a voicemail saying that he needed to tell her
the truth about her family. This type of conflict is character vs. self and character vs. character. Sophie

Deepwater Horizon Was An Offshore Drilling Rig
Deepwater Horizon was an offshore drilling rig built in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy
Industries. In September 2009, the rig drilled the deepest oil well in history with a vertical depth of
35,050 feet.
An unplanned flow of well fluids into the wellbore can be dangerous as it could cause a blowout
which would then cause a fire. In order to prevent this, driller s pump a drilling mud into the well,
creating a barrier between the undersea oil and gas and the rig. The safety of the drilling crew relies on
a piece of equipment placed on the top of the sea floor called the blowout preventer. This is essential
for controlling the well and in an emergency situation preventing a disaster on the platform high above
on the sea surface. The blowout preventer is connected to the rig by a large diameter pipe called a
riser. If a blowout occurs the blowout preventer is designed to prevent flammable oil and gas
travelling up the drilling rig.
At 8:45pm on April 20th 2010 a blowout occurred in the well. Oil and gas entered the wellbore
undetected, eventually passing above the blowout preventer. Quickly it made its way up the riser
towards the Deepwater Horizon and the 126 people on board. Just after 9:40 pm, drilling mud forced
upwards by the rising oil and gas suddenly blew out on the rig. Crew members responded by closing
the upper annular preventer. This did not work. They then tried to close a pipe ram. This successfully
closed the annular space and sealed the well but this

Evaluate The Closet Analysis
Evacuate the Closet Our lives are a kaleidoscope of vivid memories and experiences. There are good
memories we relive over and over in our heads; there are brutal ones we wish we could forget. Over
time, these experiences become a part of who we are, whether we like it or not. Therein lies a forked
road. Do we make the most of the situation and move on, or do we dwell on the past and choose a path
of embitterment? For all my life, I have considered myself as a sort of oddity. I didn t speak English
for most of primary school. My customs were different from my American classmates. Being different
became the norm for me; I wasn t really bothered by it. I learned to overcome all the little sarcastic
comments made by the other children in school. For the most part, everything was okay. Everything

The Government as far back as the 1950s backed subsidized and unsubsidized student loans.
However, over the years the cost of a college education has increased and has become a financial
burden for some families as their debts began to rise. The U. S. Department of Education amended the
Title IV of the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 1965. Student loans are a form of financial aid
that a student can receive while in college and consist of federal loans and private loans.

The financial markets begin to show signs of non payments of credit on student loans, which was
alarming to policy makers who eventually intervened. The feedback received from this brought on the
amendment of the Title IV of the Higher Education Act. Students were struggling to make ends meet
with the worry of repaying their student loans as they entered into the workforce, they found that they
were unable to purchase homes, prepare for retirement, nor have the option to start their own small
businesses and so forth. Suggestions were made to the task force for policymakers to implement
repayment options that would be affordable to students, and have private lenders to restructure loans.
Another suggestion was to repair a student s credit if and when they repay their loan in full. Federal
student loans can be issued directly to the student or to the parents. However, if that loan is made to
the student, the student is not required to make any payments if enrolled as a part time student. Should
the student drop below the part time status, there is a six month grace period to rekindle your status
and the payments will be deferred, otherwise there is no grace period. Any loans made to the parents
can have large loan amount, however, payments will have to start immediately. Private loans can be

Soon, I established a reputation for myself as a capricious, impatient tactician able to beat all but the

The Success Of The Great Leap
In addition to hastiness, many projects failed because people lacked the skills necessary to perform
them. The Great Leap did not support educated people and therefore the projects were often run by
uneducated cadres, commune managers, and often failed (310) (72). People did not know how to do
the jobs that the government forced them to do (31) (311). They plowed so deeply that the soiled had
salt in it (311). The peasants were ordered to look for uranium and petroleum in the countryside, not
knowing the appearance of these resources nor the proper way to find and collect them (31). People
forced to make steel in their backyards often did not know how it was done so that what they made
was often unusable (31). Because so much of the produce was worthless, the country found that they
had pledged more exports than they had (80). A policy in 1958 was Larger imports, larger exports (78)
but in 1958 they owed large amounts of money to Hungary, Czechoslovakia, and East Germany (80)
and in 1959 they were still having complaints from foreign countries about not delivering the
promised exports (81). To meet necessary exports, Mao decided that the country should cut down on
meat and oil consumption and export most of it (82). Because the government failed to properly plan
the Great Leap, they did not consider that there were skills necessary in performing various projects
and that their people did not have these skills, causing their projects to fail and their country to lose

Should Adopted Kids Know Who Their Biological Parents Are?
Whether adoptive children should know who their birth parents is something that is questioned too
much. Children should have the right to be able to know who their birth parents are if they choose to
do so. If children do not want to know who their birth parents are then they probably have a reason
behind it. Children who do not know who their birth parents are, should find out who they are so that
they can have contact with them. Some children are absolutely accurate that they do not want to know

The Country Of Moldova And The European Union
Until recently, the country of Moldova did not even exist to my knowledge. I had never heard its
name, did not know where it was located, and I obviously had no idea about the extremely complex
and serious ongoing issue with their government system. Moldova is one of the poorest countries in all
of Europe and has been tossed around between Russian and Romanian control since the 16th century.
It only officially declared its sovereignty from its last owner, Russia, in 1990, its independence in
1991, and became a part of the United Nations in 1992. Even though it finally gained its
independence, Moldova just cannot win for losing. It seems no matter what political decisions they

this corruption occurring in the Moldovan government and is questioning Moldova s ability to be a
part of the EU. I chose to research this issue because the current corruption of the Moldovan
government and its impact on its people, is going to play a major role in the future of Moldova as a
country. How these events are influencing the opinions of the people will ultimately determine the
structure of Moldova s government, and this is a big deal for this struggling country. I personally do
not have an opinion yet about this issue as I am not adequately informed about the pros and cons of
the two political parties in conflict, but I hope to be able to better understand the two sides of this issue
and possibly develop my own opinion on the issue of Moldova s future government. Moldova s people
are faced between the choices of Socialist Russia, who is impressing on them with economical threats,
or continuing down the path towards the EU, which as their government appears to be bathed with
corrupted politics and politicians, is proving to be more of an obstacle than once imagined. Of which
is the lesser of two evils for this poor, literally and figuratively, European country?

Other factors should also be considered such as a company s products, management, competitors, and
vision for the future. (Fieldsend, Longford and McLeay, 1987). Following are the cautions while
doing financial analysis. First, a single ratio does not generally provide sufficient information from
which to judge the overall performance and status of the firm. Only when a group of ratios is used can
reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with certain specific aspects of a firm
s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It is preferable to use audited
financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been audited, there may be no reason
to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true financial condition. Third, the financial
data being compared should have been developed in the same way. The use of differing accounting
treatments, especially relative to inventory and depreciation can distort the results. (Whitis and Keith,
1993). Time series analysis is applied when a financial analysts evaluates performance over time.
Comparison of current to past performance, using ratio analysis, allows the firm to determine whether
it is progressing as planned. Using multiyear comparisons can see developing trends, and knowledge
of these trends should assist the firm in planning future operations. As in cross sectional analysis, any

The narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth
The film that I have chosen as a case study for my final paper is: Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director
Guillermo del Toro, and it is a case of real fantastic cinema. Here I present my essay entitled The
narrative power of sound in Pan s labyrinth of Guillermo Del Toro . It will analyze the sound design ,
the identification of its elements, the ways in which they are presented and their interrelations, to
understand and explain how these elements work together in conjunction with the visual image, to
support the narration of the story. Consequently, this research seeks to answer the question: How does

It is within this framework that I consider important to study the way in which sound is built and used
in audiovisual products to narrate, generate sensations and configure worlds , real and fantastic,
respect to the reality of the history of fiction (which may not coincide with reality as the viewer knows
it in his own life, but that this understands and accepts as the reality of history that is being counting
within the audiovisual piece).
As Balsam refers , a sound can create emphasis in any scene that is, can function as a punctuation
mark , when it accentuates and strengthens the visual image.
This time we will focus on the analysis of the sound of a film that, in addition, to be well achieved
according to my personal appreciation, has been nominated for several awards for sound and has won
some of them. It is then a proposal that, when like others, it is convenient to analyze and understand,
to take from it what works best for us or interest, or for our future productions. For this I have chosen
the feature film Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director Guillermo del Toro; in charge of the sound Martin
Hernández, Jaime Baksht and Miguel Ángel Polo. I choose this movie because I think, (and this is
what I am trying to proof with this work) , that it has a sound design very detailed and congruent with
what the story tells, in which all the elements come together to create a fantastic world fairy

Importance of Symbols Essay
Importance of Symbols
In all novels the use of symbols are what make the story feel so real to the reader. A symbol as simple
as a bird can mean so much more then what you see. Whereas a symbol as complicated as the sea, can
mean so much less then what you thought. It is a person perception that brings them to the true
meaning of a specific symbol. Symbols are message within a word that must be analyzed to discover.
In The Awakening, Kate Chopin conveys her ideas by using carefully crafted symbols that reflect her
characters thoughts and futures.

Mademoiselle Reisz says, it is a sad spectacle to see the weaklings bruised, exhausted, fluttering back
to earth (83). This bird symbolizes Edna?s struggle to become the master of her own life as well as her
failure to achieve this goal. Mademoiselle Reisz understands that Edna cannot fight society and uses
birds to demonstrate this knowledge. The bird, like Edna, is the only one who possessed sufficient
candor to tell the truth about society (23).
Finally, Edna moves to what she calls her exhausted pigeon house. The name that Edna chooses for
this house implies the defeat of a bird that, in turn, implies the defeat of Edna. Throughout Edna s life,
birds reflect her actions and feelings.
All through the book, sleep is an important and reoccurring subject. Edna often sleeps in order to
recover from the stress of her awakenings. After her first solo swim she feels the physical need for
sleep [begin] to overtake her; the exuberance which had sustained and exalted her spirit left her
helpless and yielding to the conditions which crowded her in (34). She needs sleep to repair her
disheveled emotions after her aesthetic and physical awakenings. Without sleep, Edna is physically
and mentally unable to realize her ambitions.
Another symbolic example of Edna sleeping occurs at the Church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Cheniere
Caminada. There, Edna is overcome by her emotions during service. She realizes that she is going

Essay On Types Of Robots
4. Types Of Robots
Robotics is a very wide and broad area, as it comprises of different fields and has been adapted by
many professional bodies including defense, medicine, agriculture, automobile, aeronautics, etc. This
is why there are no specific types of robots. Hence, we cannot categorically say these are the types of
robots because types of robots are measured in terms of their use, functions, environment and location
system they possess [14, 17, 34]. Thus, here are the basic types of robots viz: Stationary robots,
wheeled robots, legged robots, Vehicle robots, Cloud robots, and Nano robots.
A. Stationary Robots
These are types of robots which are considered static, meaning they do not move or change position
during operation. Some of them include surgical robots which are often found in hospitals. Another

Wheeled Robots
These types of robots are said to be locomotive in nature. They change their position with the help of
wheels, which make it easier for them to move from one place to another. Some of their examples
include single wheel robots, two wheel, and military robots and so on.
C. Legged robots
These robots are considered the most complex and sophisticated when it comes to locomotion. They
are also known as mobile robots as they can move from place to place on a very quick speed. They are
often characterized by having legs and arms which support their movement or allow them to get up
when they fall down. The most common legged robots in this category are the popular humanoid
robots, military robots, and domestic or household robots [34].
D. Vehicle Robots
This category of robot is considered as one of the largest of all, they include those robots which cover
far distance. They have such locomotive components that could endure any kind of environment, be it
rocky areas, deserts, water or even space. Example of these robots include

The Problem Of Computer Security
Computer security has been creating issues in the news lately. Almost every week, corrupt forces try
to take down high profile websites. Companies lose millions of dollars and suffer damage to computer
systems. As a result, large companies spend thousands of dollars on security systems and products to
protect the doors to their corporate networks.
It s hard to set a barrier for the intruders. Most systems administrators and users have built up a
tolerance to attempted hacking. They have accepted intruders as the norm.
An intruder attack is only one side of security .Viruses are another big security threat; the fact that
they spread easily only increases their infestations. For example, worm viruses spread when users
open email attachments, which cause the virus to email itself to the user s entire contact list. Other
Trojan horse viruses can come into your system and leave a back door for intruders who will use your
computer as a Threat Machine to spread or to make countless attacks on other users machines.
Because the operating system plays an important role in a computer s functioning, and because it s the
only layer between the machine s available resources and its users, it s critical that the OS resists
compromise.
Hardening is this process of establishing a strong security wall against unknown threats. System
administrators harden against whatever they think could be a threat. This guide is designed to provide
a reference for system administrators who need to

there is no funding for 2 1 care. This leaves a situation where risk will always be present, but the skills

(humiliation, sense of failure), or mental (stress). A person who is excluded from a group is
disempowered. Inclusion is a strong and forceful need. Many people consider being part of a tribe,
gang, clique or social group a necessary part of their life. Exclusion is disempowering. We are aware
of bullying in schools, and the words still resound in my ears, You can t be part of our gang! With
inclusion and empowerment comes the responsibility and consequences of taking part in society in a
socially acceptable way. This is laid out in

The Creation Of Islam Throughout Ad 662
The creation of Islam in AD 662 spread very widely within a century and brought on a whole cultural
phenomenon . Muslims contribute to knowledge through the creation and addition of Arabic numerals,
positional notation, algebra, calculations in astronomy, medical analyses, and new poetry techniques.
Islam contributions to design are distinctive, richly colorful, and highly imaginative. (Newton 30) The
militant Arabs took over Syria, and then took over Egypt in AD 640. Sixty years later they spread to
the south Mediterranean coast, reaching the Atlantic. Through similar interests of conquest, the Arabs
were drawn into Spain. The Muslims traveled across the Strait of Gibraltar in AD 711. Despite
resistance from southern regions, they conquered successfully. (Jellicoe 40) By AD 712, Muslims
occupied Seville and Cordoba. The Muslim part of Spain stands independently and survives for eight
centuries. (Newton 31) Muslims arrive in Spain and influence regions knowledgably, architecturally
and through use of the land. Despite the later Spanish Christian revival, areas in the South of the
peninsula, Cordoba and Seville still contain layered Islamic attributes. The space extending past the
architecture is an opportunity that engages so many aspects. Architecture must go beyond architecture
and rewrite its definition to embrace the challenges of society, responding with a new critical
discourse on social and technical levels (Serageldin 11 12). Muslims were able to

Research Paper On Lou Gehrig s Disease
Diseases and infections. Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) or Lou Gehrig s disease is a disease that
affects your motor neurons in your spinal cord and brainstem. The decline of your upper neurons
causes your muscles to tighten and the diminishment of your lower neurons causes your muscles to
shrink down in size. When the neurons die, your brain no loses the ability to control your voluntary
muscles like eating, speaking, moving, and eventually breathing. Most people diagnosed with ALS
live up to 3 5 years after the diagnosis. Individuals between the ages of 40 and 70 are more likely to
have this disease and nearly 6,000 people are diagnosed with the disease every year. There are two
different forms of ALS, familial and sporadic. Familial ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Watching a human being diminish to a hardly moving, barely breathing body is one of the hardest
experiences I have witnessed. My grandfather was a pilot for a commercial airline for over twenty
years. He was able to fly around the world with his daughter (my mom) and together they were able to
go to London, Italy, Paris, and Spain. My grandparents had lived in Wisconsin most of their lives
before my grandfather was diagnosed with ALS. After my grandpa had fallen a few times and my
grandmother was unable to get him up, we decided to move them out near us. He has moved into a
retirement home just down the road from our house. Over the past 3 years I have gotten to know my
grandparents so much better and I wouldn t trade that for the world. Although Lou Gehrig s Disease
ravished my grandfather s body, his faith in Christ remained steadfast. I watched as a disease took
away my grandfather s physical abilities use of his legs, use his hands, his sense of taste. However,
even though his body was failing around him, his mind remained remarkably intact. Through these
challenging months, I never once saw my grandfather get angry with God or question why this was
happening to him. He took everything in stride, fully trusting in God. You see, my grandfather firmly
believed with his whole heart that God had a purpose and plan for his life. I saw him witness to those

Communism, Democracy, And Capitalism
Ideology Mankind must put an end to war or war will put an end to mankind. John F. Kennedy,
September 25, 1961 The cold war was a violent clashing of ideology, communism was battling with
democracy. It was one of the most emotionally charged war, and time, in American, and possible the
globes history. There was great fear of a global nuclear conflict, that would leave thousands dead, and
essentially ending the world as we had ever know it. I will cover the history that is the cold war, and
delve into the philosophies of the two main nations involved. I will be comparing the ideas behind
communism, democracy, and capitalism. When World War II ended it was decided that the best
defense against the Soviet ideology was a strategy of containment. George Kennan explained his
policy n 1946, in the Long Telegram. The Soviet Union is a political force committed fanatically to the
belief that with the U.S. there can be no permanent modus vivendi (agreement between parties that
disagree); George Kennan went on to say that long term, patient but firm and vigilant containment of
Russian expansive tendencies was necessary. Harry Truman echoed these ideas. It must be the policy
of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by outside
pressures. This ideology is one that we implement to this day. The United States used this situation to
justify a astonishingly large arms buildup. In 1950, a National Security Council Report known as

Wal Mart And Its Effect On Society
What if a dream never amounted to anything more than a dream? What would be the point of
dreaming that dream? Wal Mart makes dreams for many locally owned businesses nothing but a lie.
Wal Mart, like many monopolies use their enormous power to influence, and take advantage of society
in whatever way they see fit. The American Society has adopted subjective vision, either because they
care not to look further than the inexpensiveness of their product or the owner are blinded by their
profits. Wal Mart takes advantage of a system by exploiting cheap labor and poor working conditions.
The same company that advises these poor standards receive large quantities of subsidies from The
American Government. Some people would claim that this is ... Show more content on

When people are placed into a group and these people have to deal with some situation, the group as a
whole typically has some overriding attitude toward the situation (). Wal Mart focus on the individual
to separate them from a group. Once they are separate the loss of their job or pay cuts take a bigger
toll on the individual. Also Wal Mart may play individuals against each other to create self doubt. In
the documentary it showed how Wal Mart would play individuals against each other by ignoring
actions such as racism towards those who defied the system. By focusing on the individual, Wal Mart
is able to increase their profits through creating the inequity of power. Wal Mart uses its power to
influence other institutions in a way that benefits them. The main institution that Wal Mart is
concerned with is economics. Realizing this Wal Mart uses their power to influence other institutions
to their will. Part of that is through advertisements and the other is through funding government
campaigns. Wal Mart s advertisements are made to bring pride to small communities about the way
that Wal Mart benefits their community. So the people who watch the Wal Mart advertisement think
that Wal Mart is doing their city a favor. As stated in The High Cost of Low price Wal Mart received 1
billion dollars in total subsidies last year (). Subsidies which are not needed when Wal Mart is own by
the richest family in America. The American

Values, Self Confidence And The Feeling Of Belonging
Values give us self awareness, self confidence and the feeling of belonging. They help us make the
right choices and force us to develop integrity. Values show us how to choose between different
priorities and give us an idea of what improvements we need to be made to improve our relationships
with others. When we act with these values they give us credibility, and help us to know where we
stand, and clarify what we will and will not tolerate. We make many choices daily, some have very
minor significance, others of extreme importance, and each one of these choices we make have a huge
impact not just on us, but those around us. Even a very small decision such as having a burger instead
of a salad could effect our health in the long run, and in result affect the people we love. There are
seven values that are absolutely essential for human survival. The seven include justice and fairness,
caring, respect responsibility, honesty, loyalty and liberty. These seven values play a major role in our
lives. Many of us forget these values that we have been taught. Living in this busy and fast paced
world, many us of neglect to practice these core values. The ethical couture of this world is spiraling
downward. We seem to be focused on ourselves rather than caring about others. I will be describing
how these seven essential values are expressed in my life and some areas that need some work. I strive
to be the best person i can be, I understand we live in a cruel world, but I feel it

  • 2. Rich Vs. Poor In America The Rich versus Poor in America America; the land of opportunities. How many times have we heard this phrase in our lives? This is the promise land and here, you will be treated equally and will be guaranteed freedom and justice. Maybe it is so in legal terms. However if we look closely, there are many injustice going on that is not protected by our constitution. Perhaps the most obvious one is the difference between the rich and the poor or the haves and the have nots. First line in the constitution states; all men are created equal. Is that so? Because of the type of person she was, she was afflicted over what she should do. Should she go out and buy herself clothes, which she has long wanted? Or should she donate her money to Mr. Johnson for his daughter s funeral? Thinking about this gave her headaches. Her morals choose to give the poor baby a funeral and she hurries to Mr. Johnson. But she was a bit too late. Mr. Johnson, with nothing to do, has given the baby to student doctors. Now, the ten five dollar bills, which she literally worshiped all of a sudden, changed to stones in her purse. The money, which has chosen the destiny of a small child that must have had so much ahead in her life, was too much of a weight for her. It was the money that killed the child, not pneumonia. Feeling extreme anger and depression toward money, she hides the money as atonement toward the guilt she felt of her incapability to make up her mind. Only if she were a couple of hours faster, the baby would have at least had a burial place instead of being used in some experiment. That guilt just would not leave her mind. The Gift of the Magi was a very similar type of story. It is about two very loving couple, Della and Jim Young, again, very idealistic except for the fact that they were extremely poor. They ... The National Missile Defense System is the First Step to Another Cold War and the United States Should Not Do It As we begin the twenty first century, an increasing number of states around the world are acquiring nuclear capabilities. The sense of insecurity by individual governments is driving many states into developing and testing ballistic missiles. In the mean time, the United States finds itself in a position to develop new technology that will protect themselves against these potential missile strikes. The S.257 was followed by a second bill named H.R. 4 passed in March of 1999 that stated, It is the policy of the United States to deploy a national missile defense. (Policy.com) The proposal of the National Missile Defense System by Capitol Hill is a clear example of the international security dilemma, where the United States desire to become more secure compromises other states security. By setting up a missile defense to escape the power of other states, this will only create insecurity in the international arena that will prompt other states to react with their own missile defense system. This dynamia can also be seen through the prisoner s dilemma diagram (Figure 1). The United States fears for the worst possibility so it arms itself to increase its protection. When you are counseling a person that has been subjected to a family prone to alcoholism this child tends to show different ways of functioning and you have to take that into consideration as to how to proceed. Family therapy is often encouraged when you are trying to repair a family that has gone through a crisis because this can show them that they can work together as a team to get past the issue. In most other therapies, the counseling session has two individuals present, the counselor and the client. According to PsychologyCampus.com (2004 2008), family systems therapy is based on the idea that individuals are best understood through assessing the entire family (para. 1). This is where family therapy differs and can be challenging. There may be two family members in therapy, for example, in marriage or couples counseling. Fears themselves are not universal, and every human may have different fears. In the novel 1984 written by George Orwell many common fears are brought into perspective, many of which I can say I fear myself. While the question asked for the implications of the ending, for me to fully understand the ending I must start from the beginning. The setting for his observation is in his home and front yard at 11:00 am with his mother and little brother present. His mother reports that he has recently been sick with a cold and is getting restless. It has been five days since he has had any school services and the date of the observation is the first day he has been well enough to have visitors. There are no other reported medical or physiological factors that are known to influence the target behavior. Target Behavior The problem behavior being observed is self injurious behavior. Self injurious behavior is operationally defined as: projecting head into forceful contact with any surface and forceful contact between hand and head/face. Levi s self injurious behavior occurs hourly at a severe intensity, thus posing a physical threat to his safety. • 9. Unemployment Is A Key Macroeconomic Indicator Unemployment is a simple term in itself but the concept is not as clear cut as it may suggest. Unemployment is a key macroeconomic indicator used by policymakers to determine the economy s performance relative to it s productive potential (OECD, 2014). However, for it to be a reliable indicator there must be a commonly accepted definition to allow for comparison. The United Kingdom follows the internationally agreed definition of unemployment set by the International Labour Office (hereinafter: ILO) as Anybody who is without work, available for work and seeking work. This includes those who have actively sought work in the last 4 weeks, available to start work in the next 2 weeks, or is waiting to start work in the next 2 weeks (Geneva 1982, Cited by International Labour Office). The Labour Force Survey (hereinafter: LFS) is a sample survey covering a three month period that is consistent with the ILO definition, this allows for cross country comparisons. It is a direct assessment of unemployment is used to establish those that are employed, unemployed or economically inactive. Another means of unemployment measurement is the Claimant Count, it s a by product of administrational data collected by records of those on job seekers allowance. Throughout the Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne uses several biblical allusions to emphasize the Puritan society this novel was set in and give the reader a comparison of Hester to biblical figures, both holy and unholy. The Puritan society was one of strict adherence to the Bible and its teachings; consequently, Hester s sin is not easily forgiven. Through his use of biblical allusions Hawthorne provides the reader with a historical figure that portrays characteristics or aspects similar to that of Hester. Hester s curious child, Pearl, is both a blessing and a curse. She completely changed the course of Hester s life, at a great price. This is comparable to the pearl of great price, mentioned in Matthew 13:45 46. From the moment Hester became pregnant with Pearl, she gave up her life, becoming an outcast, and being forced to live apart from the society. It was a great price for Hester to pay, but a mother s love is one of the strongest things on this Earth, and that can be seen through her actions. • 20. Description Of A Good Friend Dearest Good Friend, After having taken an entire course dedicated to design, I think that I ought to pass on some of the information I learned in the form of some oh so friendly advice. Although you, my good friend who has been seriously considering going into design for some time, may already know a bit about design, I thought it a good idea to let you know about what a few of the sources I have been reading have to say about being a designer. Also, I wanted to let you know what these sources say in regard to the place of designers and of designers work in the larger society. Unfortunately, I will not be able to give you the full run down, but I have chosen the best just for you. Jumping ahead a bit to my summary of findings, I found that designers have special responsibilities lot of them. They have to think about the people with which they work, the consumers of their designs, the manufacturers of their designs, and the nature of the material with which they work. Also, design should not be thought of as a way in which people show mastery and control over the world. To do this is a bad idea because it can have a negative impact on a person s morals. Now that I have given you an overview of my findings, I will let you know more about how I came to these conclusions. In deciding whether designers have any special responsibilities, I found the articles A Buddhist Perspective on Industrial Engineering and the Design of Work by Wei Tau Lee, James A. • 23. Deepwater Horizon Was An Offshore Drilling Rig Deepwater Horizon was an offshore drilling rig built in 2001 in South Korea by Hyundai Heavy Industries. In September 2009, the rig drilled the deepest oil well in history with a vertical depth of 35,050 feet. An unplanned flow of well fluids into the wellbore can be dangerous as it could cause a blowout which would then cause a fire. In order to prevent this, driller s pump a drilling mud into the well, creating a barrier between the undersea oil and gas and the rig. The safety of the drilling crew relies on a piece of equipment placed on the top of the sea floor called the blowout preventer. This is essential for controlling the well and in an emergency situation preventing a disaster on the platform high above on the sea surface. The blowout preventer is connected to the rig by a large diameter pipe called a riser. If a blowout occurs the blowout preventer is designed to prevent flammable oil and gas travelling up the drilling rig. At 8:45pm on April 20th 2010 a blowout occurred in the well. Oil and gas entered the wellbore undetected, eventually passing above the blowout preventer. Quickly it made its way up the riser towards the Deepwater Horizon and the 126 people on board. Just after 9:40 pm, drilling mud forced upwards by the rising oil and gas suddenly blew out on the rig. Crew members responded by closing the upper annular preventer. This did not work. They then tried to close a pipe ram. This successfully closed the annular space and sealed the well but this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Another suggestion was to repair a student s credit if and when they repay their loan in full. Federal student loans can be issued directly to the student or to the parents. However, if that loan is made to the student, the student is not required to make any payments if enrolled as a part time student. Should the student drop below the part time status, there is a six month grace period to rekindle your status and the payments will be deferred, otherwise there is no grace period. Following are the cautions while doing financial analysis. First, a single ratio does not generally provide sufficient information from which to judge the overall performance and status of the firm. Only when a group of ratios is used can reasonable judgments be made. If an analysis is concerned only with certain specific aspects of a firm s financial position, one or two ratios may be sufficient. Second, It is preferable to use audited financial statements for ratio analysis. If the statements have not been audited, there may be no reason to believe that the data contained in them reflect the firm s true financial condition. Third, the financial data being compared should have been developed in the same way. The use of differing accounting treatments, especially relative to inventory and depreciation can distort the results. (Whitis and Keith, 1993). Time series analysis is applied when a financial analysts evaluates performance over time. • 39. The Problem Of Computer Security Computer security has been creating issues in the news lately. Almost every week, corrupt forces try to take down high profile websites. Companies lose millions of dollars and suffer damage to computer systems. As a result, large companies spend thousands of dollars on security systems and products to protect the doors to their corporate networks. It s hard to set a barrier for the intruders. Most systems administrators and users have built up a tolerance to attempted hacking. They have accepted intruders as the norm. An intruder attack is only one side of security .Viruses are another big security threat; the fact that they spread easily only increases their infestations. For example, worm viruses spread when users open email attachments, which cause the virus to email itself to the user s entire contact list. Other Trojan horse viruses can come into your system and leave a back door for intruders who will use your computer as a Threat Machine to spread or to make countless attacks on other users machines. Because the operating system plays an important role in a computer s functioning, and because it s the only layer between the machine s available resources and its users, it s critical that the OS resists compromise. Understand that individuals with disabilities have the same right as everyone else to take risks 1.2 Explain why, traditionally, people with disabilities have been discouraged or prevented from taking risks. In Social Care there is an accountability for the welfare of the individual, whether they are being cared for or enabled to be independent. The enabler has responsibility for the individual, and the Company that provides the service to the client has responsibility towards both the enabler and the individual. They are answerable to families, CQC, the local council, social care workers and the police. An individual, who has the mental capacity to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Here we have an example of risk that was assessed, taken, and culminated uncomfortably. The customer left the premises quickly. Do I take the individual again another time? Or should we abandon all attempts to visit the cafe? It would be easier with two enablers, so one could find out information when the individual arrived at the premises, whilst the other enabler supported the individual. But there is no funding for 2 1 care. This leaves a situation where risk will always be present, but the skills of the enablers will hopefully grow as they learn ways of promoting positive behaviour in the community. 1.3 Describe the links between risk taking and responsibility, empowerment and social inclusion. Anybody who takes a full role in society takes risks: crossing the road, using a bus, driving a car, and talking to people they do not know. Risk may be physical (injury and accident), emotional (humiliation, sense of failure), or mental (stress). A person who is excluded from a group is disempowered. Inclusion is a strong and forceful need. Many people consider being part of a tribe, gang, clique or social group a necessary part of their life. Exclusion is disempowering. We are aware of bullying in schools, and the words still resound in my ears, You can t be part of our gang! With inclusion and empowerment comes the responsibility and consequences of taking part in society in a socially acceptable way. This is laid out in ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Creation Of Islam Throughout Ad 662 The creation of Islam in AD 662 spread very widely within a century and brought on a whole cultural phenomenon . Muslims contribute to knowledge through the creation and addition of Arabic numerals, positional notation, algebra, calculations in astronomy, medical analyses, and new poetry techniques. Islam contributions to design are distinctive, richly colorful, and highly imaginative. (Newton 30) The militant Arabs took over Syria, and then took over Egypt in AD 640. Sixty years later they spread to the south Mediterranean coast, reaching the Atlantic. Through similar interests of conquest, the Arabs were drawn into Spain. The Muslims traveled across the Strait of Gibraltar in AD 711. Despite resistance from southern regions, they conquered successfully. (Jellicoe 40) By AD 712, Muslims occupied Seville and Cordoba. The Muslim part of Spain stands independently and survives for eight centuries. (Newton 31) Muslims arrive in Spain and influence regions knowledgably, architecturally and through use of the land. Despite the later Spanish Christian revival, areas in the South of the peninsula, Cordoba and Seville still contain layered Islamic attributes. The space extending past the architecture is an opportunity that engages so many aspects. Architecture must go beyond architecture and rewrite its definition to embrace the challenges of society, responding with a new critical discourse on social and technical levels (Serageldin 11 12). Watching a human being diminish to a hardly moving, barely breathing body is one of the hardest experiences I have witnessed. My grandfather was a pilot for a commercial airline for over twenty years. He was able to fly around the world with his daughter (my mom) and together they were able to go to London, Italy, Paris, and Spain. My grandparents had lived in Wisconsin most of their lives before my grandfather was diagnosed with ALS. After my grandpa had fallen a few times and my grandmother was unable to get him up, we decided to move them out near us. He has moved into a retirement home just down the road from our house. Over the past 3 years I have gotten to know my grandparents so much better and I wouldn t trade that for the world. Although Lou Gehrig s Disease ravished my grandfather s body, his faith in Christ remained steadfast. I watched as a disease took away my grandfather s physical abilities use of his legs, use his hands, his sense of taste. However, even though his body was failing around him, his mind remained remarkably intact. Through these challenging months, I never once saw my grandfather get angry with God or question why this was happening to him. He took everything in stride, fully trusting in God. You see, my grandfather firmly believed with his whole heart that God had a purpose and plan for his life. I saw him witness to those around him our ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I will cover the history that is the cold war, and delve into the philosophies of the two main nations involved. I will be comparing the ideas behind communism, democracy, and capitalism. When World War II ended it was decided that the best defense against the Soviet ideology was a strategy of containment. George Kennan explained his policy n 1946, in the Long Telegram. The Soviet Union is a political force committed fanatically to the belief that with the U.S. there can be no permanent modus vivendi (agreement between parties that disagree); George Kennan went on to say that long term, patient but firm and vigilant containment of Russian expansive tendencies was necessary. Harry Truman echoed these ideas. It must be the policy of the United States to support free peoples who are resisting attempted subjugation by outside pressures. This ideology is one that we implement to this day. The United States used this situation to justify a astonishingly large arms buildup. In 1950, a National Security Council Report known as ...
