The Aztecs Essay
The Aztecs encountered the conquistadors, the leader of the group was a Spanish named Hernan
Cortés. In 1521, the Aztecs caused their enemies to suffer major losses. Though the Aztecs didn t all
die to the war, the Aztecs mostly died out due to the diseases that the Spaniards brought over.
The Aztecs had pyramids comparable to the Egyptians, but on top of these pyramids the Aztecs built
temples. These temples on the pyramids were used to worship the Aztecs three more important gods,
Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca. But not only did they have house shrines, they also
had schools, sacred pools, altars, gardens, and dormitories. Some temples had arsenals inside and ball
courts.
There were also large buildings, like the Emperor s palace. The palace consisted of four main rooms,
balls courts, a ceremonial plaza, and even chinampas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the Badianus Manuscript, there is a codex that explained how to use plants and trees to create
treatments and ailments which contained over 180 recipes. Herbalists that used these recipes were
called the tictil . Also these recipes actually had some scientific backing behind them. Another
advancement was the calendars the Aztecs used. These calendars were called Tonalpohualli (day count
260 days) and Xiuhpohualli (solar year 365 days ). Even though these calendars had different day
counts, they coincided after 52 years.
The Aztecs had a writing system consisted of ideograms and pictograms, and was very similar to the
Mayan system. To understand these pictograms you needed to also understand Aztec cultural
conventions. An example of a pictogram would be a corpse wrapped in bandages, which represented
death. This would be a reason that the Aztecs were better than the Incas since the Incas didn t have a
writing system at all. Aztec literature was written in paper made of Agave plant fiber and were folded
like a fan. These books were called codices (or a

The Impact Of Aircraft On The United Kingdom Of World War II
Aircraft have always played an important role when taking us to places otherwise inaccessible.
Whether it be an airliner with passengers or military carrier, air travel results in faster, more efficient
completion of task. The way we navigate the skies can make or break the success of business or
military operations. However, there are some dangers that exist. Being thousands of feet up in the sky
leaves us prone to catastrophic failure of a component or detection and engagement from defensive air
and ground forces. Safety is a must and as a result, advanced technologies, shaped and inspired by
renowned conflicts and events, such as radar jamming systems , were developed in order to insure the
safety of those on the ground and in the sky. At the dawn of World War II, the U.S. were in no way a
threat to any other country, yet were serving partially as a provider for its European allies. Have been
given freedom to do so by the Lend Lease bill, the U.S provided significant military supplies and other
aids mostly to the United Kingdom and other allies involved in the war against Nazi Germany. It wasn
t until December 7, 1941 when America joined the war after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. This
attack later led Hitler crazed Germany and Italy to join Japan in a declaration of war against the
United States. The United States were now cornered by forces from different sides of the world. Even

Zelus Research Paper
Introduction
The exploration of Mars terrain is offering mankind even more incite into how our solar system was
developed in the past. There are still many sites that have yet to be explored. The region of Mawrth
Vallis is one of the oldest valleys on Mars. It was formed from cataclysmic floods and contains large
amounts of phyllosilicate. These are clay like minerals that only form in the presence of water. These
minerals can easily preserve microscopic life.
I am going to design a rover Zelus for the purpose of exploring this terrain. The rover is named after
the Greek God who is the personification of the term zeal. It inspired by the meaning of having intense
passion and enthusiasm for any endeavor. The rover will collect these minerals, explore different
aspects of the terrain, and discover any other potential information. The data gathered will in turn help
determine if this environment was sustainable for life in the past.

I will use an altered version of the MOXIE instrument planned for the Mars 2020 rover. This will only
require the CO2 Acquisition and Compression (CAC) system component of it. The CAC will store the
carbon dioxide from the Mars air and compress it. The process will take the waste heat from the solar
panels and heat molten salts stored in the chamber. Next, it will heat the stored carbon dioxide from
the air to a physical state between a gas and liquid. This will in turn give energy to the CO2 turbine to
operate the rover and its instruments. Finally, it is cooled and repressurized once it has passes through
the turbine before coming back around. The carbon dioxide will circulate continuously in a closed
loop, and it wont produce any waste

NFL Leadership Case Study
The league had a culture that looked the other way when it came to players improprieties. There was
history of giving personal conduct violators a mere slap on wrist. According to the San Diego Union
Tribune, of the 32 teams that make up the NFL, 21 employed players who had domestic or sexual
violence charges last year. Since 200, more than 700 NFL players found themselves arrested. The NFL
s responses were either a brief suspension or no suspension at all. Those players who the NFL released
from contracts were benchwarmers who most likely had no impact on the team winning. The ostrich
manager syndrome was present. The league did not accept blame but rather made domestic violence a
societal issue, and therefore, not their problem. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beau Buckley (2001) argue that when there is a lack of accountability in an organization s leadership,
there is an antecedent of unethical behavior within the organization (as cited in Hoogervorst De
Cremer, 2010). The Ivey Business Journal states Without Accountability leaders don t commit to, or
own, the decisions they make, and cannot get others to do so. They blame others for poor outcomes
and in doing so create a culture of fear and disengagement. People stop caring, with potentially
disastrous consequences (Crossan Seijts, 2012). Initially the league offered no solutions that caused a
loss of credibility. Following the arrest of Ray Rice, the Baltimore Ravens team owner stated I ve been
on record of saying my definition of character is repeating offenses. If we re all one strike and you re
out, then we re all in trouble. It s how you respond to adversity. (Mink, 2014) . It was not until a video
emerged that the NFL decided to mandate discipline, albeit weak discipline. The league suspended
Rice for two games. After public outcry, the league went in the opposite direction. This showed
inconsistency in leadership, which can cause inconsistencies in team members. If leaders are
consistent in what they pay attention to, measure, and control, employees receive clear signals about
what is important in the organization. If, however, leaders are

Construct and Analyze Applicant Selection Protocol
Construct and Analyze Applicant Selection Protocol
For this assignment I will be conducting a job analyze for a plumbers position. I will be also making a
selection protocol to recruit the right employee. In order to do a job analysis the methods that I will

it to the O*NET Online. Then I will construct an applicant selection protocol. In some aspects

The fourth principle is communication requirements. Communication is needed not only to the
customer, but also to the city and state officials that may require being able to get land surveys,
building permits and preparing return documents. The fifth principle is decision making and

applicant must be able to use the appropriate method of plumbing to suit the job he or she is working
on. Must be able to fix any issue that may arise. While analyzing the job vacancy a position analysis
questionnaire will also be used. A position analysis questionnaire will help dealing with the task
requirements of the job and also job stressors. In order to accomplish this I would use a four point
Liken type scale with 4 meaning agree, 3 somewhat agree, 2 does not apply, and 1 for disagree. The
questionnaire would contain 25 items. There would be ten on job overload and job control. Then 15
items from the brief job stress questionnaire (BJSQ) on evaluate job stress. In order to achieve the
question used I would evaluate other employees with there consent and ask for supervisors input as

Why I Want To Pursue Skiing
When I was six years old, I loved skiing as fast as I could down a mountain. My mother encouraged
me to pursue skiing because I was pigeon toed, and she felt parallel skiing would help correct my
condition. Though my mother passed away when I was nine, I continued to practice parallel skiing
until I was fourteen, when I finally mastered it. The happiness I felt after overcoming my physical
challenge has inspired me as both a skier and a student. When I first began at the University of San
Diego, I was just like every excited and scared Freshman. Once the excitement wore off, however, I
struggled so much to adjust to my new environment that I spent countless weekends alone, wishing I
could go back home. Over winter break, I was relieved to be spending time with my family on a ski
trip to Lake Tahoe. As I skied down the mountains, I was pleasantly reminded that I could overcome
any obstacle that I dedicated my time and effort towards. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

a Scholastic Assistant for next year s Orientation Weekend so that I could serve as a peer mentor to
guide first year students through their transition. Helping foster a positive educational and

The Lady with the Dog by Anton Chekhov and Marriages and...
In an interview given to Joe David Bellamy, Joyce Carol Oates explained how she was putting
together a group of short stories called Marriages and Infidelities, which include stories that are re
imaginings of famous stories. While the stories in her collection were meant to be autonomous, they
were also testaments of her love and devotion to other writers who helped her become the writer she is
today. She showed her marriage to Anton Chekhov by reworking his short story The Lady with the
Dog, almost a century after the original was published. The infidelities consist of transgressions in the
form, characterisation and setting, and the shift of the emphasis from male to female characters.
Nevertheless, comparing both stories shows ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In reimagining Chekhov s story through her own eyes, Oates has allowed her Anna room for a
development that Chekhov s Anna does not have, therefore making her the more psychologically
complex of the two women. Prone to making mistakes, Chekhov s and Oates characters are sometimes
vicious and not particularly heroic; but it is their humanity which makes readers identify with them as
they mature and change over time. Chekhov admirably positions the audience to recognise how the
carefully chosen settings accompany the characters emotional evolution, together with the
development of their affair throughout the story. At Yalta, a vacation spot of alleged immorality,
Gurov and Anna are allowed the freedom to act without the supervision of their controlling spouses.
Moreover, the resort is densely packed with romantic elements the scent, the grasshoppers, the heat
and the sea which could be argued to conspire for the affair to begin. Gurov is at first portrayed as
insensitive to Anna s consternation, but as he gradually grows more affectionate to her readers are
shown the beginning of his dawning. The hustle and bustle of Moscow does not erase Anna from his
mind, and Gurov struggles to understand his own emotions against a backdrop of debauchery. In the
unnamed town of S , readers discover the recurring motif of greyness which exemplifies the feeling of
entrapment shared by the characters. The colour is to be found

Dracula In Bram Stoker s Dracula
Throughout Dracula, it is clear that the vampire is a force to be reckoned with, worthy of the fear
accompanying its label. It is also apparent that the Count is a supernatural creature. The townspeople
strongly advise Renfield against travelling at night and become aghast when they realize that he
intends to travel to Castle Dracula. Despite their warnings, Renfield believes that all of their concern
simply stems from superstition. Later in the movie, Dracula himself subtly confirms that he is a
member of the undead in a conversation with Lucy and Mina at the theatre. There, he seems to long
death by bringing to Lucy s attention that he considers dying a glorious thing. He elaborates on this
concept even further by mentioning to Mina that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Count Dracula s powers are put on display throughout the entirety of the movie, showing the wide
variety of attributes the vampire possesses. Among the most potent powers the Count has in his
arsenal are the ability to shapeshift into wolf and bat form, a command over nature and the animals
that populate it, the power to communicate telepathically and to hypnotize, his unparalleled strength,
and his inability to age. Dracula s shapeshifting abilities are on display in many scenes of the movie.
They are first presented during Renfield s carriage ride to the castle. Dracula starts out in human form
as the driver, but much to his passenger s surprise, takes the form of a bat midway through the ride.
Likewise, Dracula morphs into a wolf when he flees the Dr. Seward s home after Van Helsing exposes
him. Dracula s command over nature and animals is not as obvious as some of his other traits, but is
still worth noting. The viewer can infer that the Count had a role in conjuring up the storm that
eventually caused the vessel he and Renfield were traveling to England on to wreck. In another part of
the film, Dracula parts a lawn outside of the Dr. Seward s Sanatorium and commands all of the rats
within it to stop so that Renfield can see the immense rewards he will reap if he continues to obey the

Taking a cruise can be a fun and amazing experience, but what about the hidden illnesses? Many
cruises have had the so called Norovirus onboard, and that has kept many people from sailing. I
personally think that if the right measures are taken, such as washing your hands and using the utensils
when getting the food from the buffet, everything will be okay. What is the Norovirus? It is a acute
gastroenteritis that is highly contagious and can affect anyone of any age (CDC.gov). Basically, a
relative of the stomach flu. It can be seen anywhere, but it is most commonly found on a Cruise ship
because it can spread quickly in the tight spaces. It is also called the Norwalk virus, mainly because it
was first identified as the cause of an outbreak at a school in Norwalk, Ohio (Disabilitytravel.com).
There is no known cure, only certain treatments to relieve the symptoms that come with it

Competitive Intensity And Government Regulations
Firm s international experience, that is, the number of years a firm has been operating in the
international markets plays a vital role to determine the pricing process followed by the firm
(Katsikeas and Morgan, 1994). They found out that for less experienced firms, pricing issue creates
less problem, whereas more experienced firms perceive pricing to be a difficult issue, although both
type of firms consider pricing very important for making export decision.
Cavusgil and Zou (1994) considered two aspects of industry characteristics competitive intensity and
government regulations. The result of their study perceives a positive relation between technology
orientation of the industry and export price competitiveness. A market is characterized by the
competition among local and international suppliers, the threat of new entrants and the bargaining
power of customers (Obadia, 2013). The author concludes that for certain aspects of exporting,
specifically, volume discount, credit term, and special circumstances for new product launch, exporter
manipulate export prices to cope with competitive intensity and favor the importers, although they do
not manipulate the price with fluctuating exchange rates. Other studies established the relation
between technology and standardization. The higher the frequency of technological changes
associated with an industry, the more likely the firms to use standardized products (Samiee and Roth,
1992). This is in line of the argument that in

Ordinary People Movie Analysis
In the movie Ordinary People Conrad and his family struggle with their relationship with each other.
There are many arguments and fights between them and most of these are caused by a lack of
communication between one another. In an argument people use their natural instincts to react, and
this reaction is either a fight or a flight reaction. In this film both fight and flight is demonstrated with
each Conrad, Beth, and Calvin.
After the whole incident with Conrad s brother dieing Conrad hasn t been able to forgive himself for
what happened that night on the boat and for what he did. Him and his mother feel disconnected and
uncomfortable and they lack communication with one another. For example, when Beth, Conrad s
mother, found out about Conrad quitting the swim team from one of her friends she was angry. She

It started off with Beth talking about them going on another vacation trip just like the one they were
currently on, and Calvin said okay I ll ask Conrad this is what started the whole argument between
them. She took a lot of offense to Calvin wanting to bring Conrad along with them on the trip and she
just assumed that he was purposefully trying to start a fight with her. While Calvin didn t think about
it like that, he just felt that they should bring their son along with them next time. This argument
escalated very quickly into yelling at one another over many topics. This could have been prevented if
they communicated more with each other because Beth isn t comfortable with showing or talking
about emotions and talking to a psychiatrist together would really help. If Beth and Calvin sat down
with a psychiatrist and talked everything out with each other they could have worked it out and not
have made as big of a scene on the golf

The Politics of Criminal Organizations Essay
Criminal organizations penetrate democratic mechanisms and their systems of representation. Votes
are extorted with threats and violence or Wheedled out of citizens in exchange for different kinds of
incentives. Political Parties rely heavily on external funding. This dependence inevitably makes them
susceptible to corruption (Allum and Siebert 2003). Accordingly, It is common to secure a number of
votes in exchange for favors, Such as contracts for public works, promoting and scuttling legislation,
Patronage, etc. (ibid.) All the regional commission of the Mafia has to Do is to instruct which party to
vote for, and tens of thousands of votes Will flood in for that party (Procura della Reppublica di

investigation, Prefect s control or monitoring. Therefore, 90% of councils required investigation
(Allum forthcoming Marasca, 2006, p. 12).
In its most advanced form, organized crime is so thoroughly integrated into the economic, political,
and social institutions of legitimate society that it may no longer be recognizable as a criminal
enterprise. In the Most extreme cases, infiltration of politics by organized crime may lead to mixing
among a country s political and criminal elites to the point Where OCG are able to wield political
power. Van Dijk points out that in many parts of the world, grand corruption and organized crime are
two Sides of the same coin. The relationship between organized crime and Politics can be seen as a
system interaction : the interaction between a Representative of a criminal sub system, i.e. a Mafioso,
and a politician from the political sub system. Godson (2006) also points out that When political
establishment knowingly and regularly does business with gang leaders, or when professional
Criminals are actually elected to power, as has happened in Sicily and Taiwan, the distinction
(between the political establishments and the criminal underworld) is less straightforward.

The Grateful Dead Essay
The Grateful Dead
The Grateful Dead was a band that toured continuously for 30 years until the death of lead man Jerry

consistently for the last 17 years and has in time made themselves into stealth multi millionaires. Both

A third thing they have in common is their fans (Deadheads and Phans). The Grateful Dead and Phish
have both established quite a following. These fans follow their favorite band around the country to
see their shows(this phan has been to over 25 Phish shows). They also collect their favorite shows on
cd r or tape, since both bands have an open taping policy at their concerts. By doing this, Phish and the
Dead opened up a new hobby; and other bands have gone along with open taping (e.g. Dave Matthews
Band, Moe., Bela Fleck).
Although these two bands do similar things with their music, the music itself is considerably different.
I think the reason Phish is labeled Children of the Dead is because of their early years playing small
gigs at Nector s bar in Vermont. They were just starting out, and did not have enough original songs to
have a complete set list. This forced Phish to do many cover songs. Mike Gordon (bassist), the only
real Dead fan in Phish coaxed his fellow band mates to cover some Grateful Dead tunes, along with
covers from other various artists and their own originals. The Dead songs were played on very few
occasions, and the songs were Fire on the Mountain and Scarlet Begonias (commonly known as
Fire*Scarlet). After a while people started calling Phish a Grateful Dead cover band, even though they

Benefits Of Year Round Schooling
Is Year Round Schooling A Better Option Than Regular Schooling? Year round schooling is better
than regular school because, it allows the kids to retain more information and not lose what they
learned, they also allow them to graduate earlier with higher retention levels. In discussion of Year
Round Schooling, one controversial issue has been whether year round schooling is a good idea or
not. People believe that year round schooling is a good thing and that it will increase academic
achievement levels and benefit the students more than anything else. Students will also be able to
advance more quickly since the schooling is year round, they have less to forget since the breaks are
shorter. On the other hand people seem to believe that year round schooling takes away from the
students and gives them less family time and less of an Outside of school life (NEA). In the research
of year round schooling it shows that absences are most likely to be higher since it is year round. Their
view is that we think that many students can benefit from year round schooling, and that is has more
benefits than anything else. Dr. Matthew Lynch from, Education New states that, Students tend to
forget a lot during summer break, so a shorter time away from school might increase retention rates
(Watson). Dr.Lynch is saying that having a shorter summer break will tend more to the students,
because they will remember and learn more than what a student who has the whole summer off.

Analysis Of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s Sonnets Of The...
All literature reflects the values, attitudes and beliefs of the context of construction. Thus, this means
that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context impacts
upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of Elizabeth
Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The Great Gatsby
allow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and values. Both
composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the framework of love and
spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman challenging values of the
conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as an indictment on the
emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As we will move through the
texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the meaning and significance we
derive from each text. Mortality:
Both Gatsby and the sonnets provide commentary on the meaning and value of life itself. The
composers articulate a number of arguments on human mortality and what does and doesn t constitute
a waste of human life. ( I will change the parts I have highlighted)

The Hotel Of Barton Fink
The Use of Sound as an Alternate Reality in the Hotel of Barton Fink Barton Fink is a film that has no
set plotline other than a writer who experiences writing block in a detached reality in a hotel. Barton s
writer s block could stem from the fact that he believes that he has sold out to writing screenplays for
large movie studios or it may be from all the distractions the Hotel Earle provides for him. The use of
background noises within Barton s room and the hotel itself helps the viewer to see that reality within
that room is slightly distorted. Sound that is perhaps louder than usual and prolonged moments of
silence are ways that create a different atmosphere than the outside world. With a simplistic sound
track that is used sparsely, it helps to keep focus on the dialogue or the actors onscreen. Barton admits
that he chose that particular hotel to give him a quiet place to work, but of course, many of the
problems he experiences seem to come from there. In this essay I will explain how the sound effects
used within the scenes involving the hotel or the room create a different reality in that space. The first
sound heard in the hotel is the continuous ring of the bell Barton taps to get the attention of the front
desk. It goes on for longer than is realistically possible and is silenced by a light touch. Since it rang
for so long, it should have given Barton a sign that something was different about the hotel he chose to
stay at. Looking into the dull room, the door

4. Construct a price‐scan rate map (using an Excel XY plot, for example). Use the following numbers
(Culled from the case): Looking at the price scan rate map, the BV600, the S1031 and the BD600 all
line up on the same value equivalent line. However, the BG400 lies north of that VEL. This implies
that the BG400 is sold at a premium compared to the other projectors. . 5. Put yourself in Sony s
shoes. You look at the answers to the 4 above questions. Given your capabilities and resources, what
should your strategy be? Specifically, what would you price the 1270 at? Given Sony s superior 8 tube
technology and its worldwide network of dealers, especially its 500 dealers in the U.S. market versus
BPS s 100, Sony s primary goal should be capturing market share in the graphics projector segment.
One way to estimate the price for S1270 is by using the value map from the previous scenario. After
adding the S1027 data projector on the value map (as shown below), we can see that Sony has to price
the projector in the range of $17,000 $18,000(Option 1)to be on the value equivalence line. Since
Sony has a strong distributor presence in the US market, it can introduce S1027 at a price lesser than
$17,000 to be at a value advantaged position depending on product margins. From Sony s point of
view, if it were to price 1270 at $15,000 (option 2) this might lower the value equivalence line and put
BPS s products at a value

How Did Queen Elizabeth Influence Her Family
Queen Elizabeth I s family background and early life affected and influenced her political reign as
well as her love life, which we see through her relationship with her family, her interaction with the
suitors, and through her reign as Queen of England. Elizabeth was often referred to as The Queen of
Compromise which sums up her political reign. While The Virgin Queen was also another title she had
been given. While some may disagree, there is great evidence that suggests Queen Elizabeth fits
exactly within these two titles. In her early life Elizabeth had a unique upbringing. Her father was
King Henry VIII, the one who did away with the Catholic Church in order to divorce his wife
Catherine of Aragon after she gave birth to Mary, but was unable to conceive a male heir. He then
married Anne Boleyn in which ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She ruled England from 1558 to 1603. Her early life experiences and family background shaped the
way she ruled her people. She was known as The Queen Compromise because although her father did
away with the Catholic Church and her sister persecuted Protestants, she allowed people to practice
their religion as long as they followed the laws. For example, she never directly claimed to be catholic
or protestant, and I think she did this so she could be revered by all of her people. She cared about her
people and she always tried to have their best interest in mind. Since her father got rid of the Catholic
Church and then Mary killed off many Protestants in order to restore Catholicism, she did not want to
pick between religions, and instead she allowed people to practice their religion. She was able to
watch how her father ruled and how her sister ruled their kingdom, and through that she was able to
decide how she wanted to rule her people. She was completely devoted top her position as queen of
England. So much so that some people thought this was a reason why she never

Violence In To Kill A Mockingbird
Meadow exposes Combo as a savage whilst the innocent Sandhu is being shown as a civilised
individual. Here in this particular scene, Combo uses violence as a way of solving problems, whilst
Sandhu shows a sense of rationality.
One crucial scene during the film is the scene when Combo turns his hate, envy and prejudicial rage
on another member of the group to disastrous effect, changing Shaun s viewpoint in an instant. During
this scene, we see Combo making references to being an original skinhead and he talks to Milky about
how being a skinhead during that time was all about black and white harmony. According to a Film4

Meadows does a great job showing a sense of realism in his characters by presenting them as average
looking teenagers, that are being portrayed by unprofessional actors, but also exposes an issue, which
has never before been so exploited before in cinemas nationwide, in which, England became well
known for its racist and violent nature towards the blacks and immigrants who took most of the white
British males jobs and that Thatcher was made responsible for the high unemployment rates.
Meadows have successfully approached an often overlooked moment in cultural history and have
exposed it for what it really is. It is also clear that not all men behave the same way that Meadows
presents his characters on screen. In today s world, the new man has been created, which no longer
bides with masculine characteristics, but instead coincides with feminine characteristics such as
sensibility, loving and caring, which we see in the character of Woody and it proves that the
representation of men have changed greatly over the years. In my opinion, I believe that the use of
grittiness is what makes This Is England so powerful and effective in being very realistic towards
themes such as nationalism, racism and pride. It has given a huge impact on audiences as it helps
educate them about England s past, a moment in British history which has been over looked. It also
shows how far England has come as a country, as we can see during the opening title sequence to the
film where a selection of stock footage from the 1980s is being used to give the audience a visual idea
of when and where the film s story is set. Most importantly, this film has shown how far men have
come and changed for the better. In

The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Essays
The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll
Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural
boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to
reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that
this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as
How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. The
Lost Honour is, on the surface, an attack on yellow journalism and the damage it causes to the lives of
the people reported on. However, with a more in depth analysis of the novel we are able to ... Show

Bolls sympathy and admiration for economically lower class citizens, most likely due to the economic
hardship faced by his father, is presented through the hardworking nature of Blum. However, he also
shows the suspicion cast upon Blum because of her comfortable living standards as a result of her
independent ways. This suggests that he is concerned with people s inability to except rises in class
without assuming something sinister or unlawful has occurred in the process. Through the use of his
characters in The Lost Honour and Bolls personal life experiences we are able to see his concerns
regarding the cultural boundaries within Germany.
Boll has demonstrated a sympathetic leaning towards females through the lack of power and rights
given to his title character Katharina Blum in correlation with his own political views. It is clear that
within The Lost Honour it is Blum who we are supposed to sympathise with. This is clear through the
satirical tone used by the less then objective limited third person narrator. One of the things implied
about women, specifically Blum, repeatedly throughout the novel is the fact that they were created to
satisfy men s sexual needs and little else. An example of this is during the questioning of Blum about
her relationship with Gotten as Beizmenne allegedly asked Blum Well, did he fuck you? Blum

who are deeply interested despite their diverse national backgrounds. Nonetheless, no matter how
heated debates the subject has raised, it is essential to fully deal with it based on historical sources.

He argued, like other imperialism advocates, that France needed foreign lands to consume his
excessive commodities because Germany and the United States had built up trade barriers. To the
French, not only were their own markets shrinking, but also other great states were trying to take over
the French markets. Therefore, it was necessary for France to take serious measures against such
threat. Furthermore, he believed that it was the duty of the higher races to civilize the lower races,
which led to the colonization of areas including Africa and Asia. Finally, Ferry also contended that as
many other great states expanded their territories, France needed to build their naval bases around the
world to compete at the world political stage; otherwise, France would face serious challenges from
other powers. Although Ferry was left wing politician, he justified his support for the French
imperialism based on the French national interests. To Ferry, national interests were first priority.
Rudyard Kipling wrote a poem, The White Man s Burden, to express that imperialism was the
obligation of the western powers to receive God s blessings to civilize the savages. Imperialism was
the way to save the uncivilized out of poverty and wretched lives. The success of imperialism indeed
could lead to the advancement of the human

Many universities fail to provide appropriate education in their curriculum (e.g. practicum or

Existentialism And The Absurd By Albert Camus
In studying the works of authors, we are able to see the many factors that play a key role in their lives.
These authors incorporate different components into their novels and stories to present a deeper
meaning within their work. In his various books, short stories, and plays, the French Algerian writer
Albert Camus relates to his philosophical beliefs: specifically existentialism and the absurd, as well as
his connecting idea of rebellion. Camus most prominent works such as the novels The Plague, The
Stranger, The Rebel, and others reflect these beliefs and ideas he held.
Though he was and continues to be considered as one, Camus made a point of rejecting the label of an
existentialist. Existentialism is essentially based on the idea that philosophy starts with the acceptance
of being an actual living human individual or the realization of existence. The term existence before
essence basically means that the after this recognition of existence, the essence, or qualities and
defining traits, will follow. In existentialism a fundamental belief is that each and every individual has
the responsibility of applying their own meaning to life and genuinely living life through this specific
purpose (Wikipedia contributors). In these aspects, many of Camus writings can therefore been seen
as reflecting existentialism.

The Core Responsibility Of A Corporation
For many years, researchers held that the core responsibility of a corporation was to provide
shareholders with financial returns. Carroll (1979) proposed that organizations have other types of
responsibilities towards the society. In Carroll s view, at some stage society has economic, legal,
ethical, and other expectations. The essential part of Carroll s definition of CSR is that a company has
four primary responsibilities: to be profitable, observe the law, be ethical, and conduct discretionary
activities. Drawing on those four responsibilities Carroll (1991) created a four level pyramid of CSR
and stated that the CSR policy of a company must include all of them. Carroll placed the economic
responsibilities at the base of the pyramid, since for a company to operate successfully, it must have a
financial return. On the second level were the legal responsibilities which in order to be fulfilled
corporations must pursue their economic objectives (Carroll, 1991). Placing the economic and legal
responsibilities at the bottom of the pyramid was reasonable because those two are fundamental for a
company to be successful. The ethical responsibilities were placed on the third level of the pyramid
suggesting that organizations ought to conduct their businesses operations in a fair and appropriate
way and ought to protect the stakeholders moral rights (Carroll, 1991). The distinction between the
legal and the ethical responsibilities is that in the former the norms are

Gorbachev And The Fall Of The Soviet Union
Gorbachev and the fall of the Soviet Union
The Soviet Union was an empire centered in Moscow, Russia. The Soviet Union consisted of more
than just Russia, it consisted of fifteen sovereign republics, and its formal title was the Union of Soviet
Socialist Republics. In addition to the 15 sovereign republics that comprised the Soviet Union after
World War II there was also the Soviet Outer Empire. The Soviet Union Outer Empire was commonly
referred to as the Soviet Bloc, which consisted of East Germany, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary,
Romania, and Bulgaria. The Soviet empire extended from Berlin in the west to the Pacific Ocean in
the east.
The Soviet Union was a communist country, meaning that the Communist Party of the Soviet Union,
herein referred to as CPSU, exercised absolute rule. The Communist Party controlled both the
government and the economy. The Soviet Union s economy was based on a centrally planned
economy, which was composed every five years at the CPSU Party Congress. Despite early successes
under Stalin, the five year plan system proved to be a mistake. The plans that were produced were
unrealistic, and inconsistent with sound economic policy. The ideology that motivated people in the
early years of the Soviet Union started to fail to serve as sufficient motivation, and without further
incentives, the workforce remained unmotivated and inefficient. In addition to the failures of the
planned economy, the people who ran the party were thoroughly corrupt,

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome Summary
Summary
For this article there were no research questions, but the authors wanted to focus on the pathogenesis,
diagnosis and treatment of PCOS. They found that polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is common in
women, with a10% prevalence in women of reproductive age. Polycystic ovary syndrome is defined
as ovarian dysfunction with polycystic ovaries. It also includes androgen excess which is shown by
testosterone levels being elevated. Increased levels of testosterone can be seen through excess body
hair. Obesity is seen in many women with PCOS, this can lead to insulin resistance and Type II
Diabetes. Genetics has an impact on polycystic ovary syndrome with 20 40% of people with PCOS
having first degree relatives with the syndrome.
The authors also found that PCOS can cause many long term side effects, including Type II diabetes,
cardiovascular disease, mood disorders, and malignancy. Type II diabetes is due to the high prevalence
of obesity leading to insulin resistance in PCOS. Women with PCOS are at higher risks for
cardiovascular diseases including increased levels of low density lipoproteins. Polycystic ovary

In some factors though, it could be argued that they stepped a little step forward. Being that the people
of Iran let a corrupt man named Ayatollah Khomeini into power who held rigged elections and made

which eventually led to violence and the deaths of some civilians. Satti explains, ...I heard gunfire
outside. Since this was no longer unusal, I was not really alarmed (Farmaian 313.) This shows that
even a day to day civilian did not care for seeing weapons on the street being used as commonly as
seeing day to day occurrences like going to the store or going to work. The Islamic Revolution also
did step backward towards the Iranian people by how after Ayatollah Khomeini was elected into
power, the riots against him started after they stopped agreeing with him. Sati states, On December 2,

The Validity Of A Scientific Theory
The world is a complicated place that works in mysterious ways, but people, with their inquisitive
minds, refuse to let even the most confounding puzzles go unsolved. Science provides explanations
for aspect of the world with no tangible evidence. But more often than not, science gets it wrong. One
way to test the validity of a scientific theory is the use of the Hypothetico Deductive Method. The
results of such a method provide evidence of confirmation or disconfirmation, though these results
cannot always be trusted. The world is complicated, thus it requires an equally complicated instrument
of discovery. With such complexity, philosophical problems in reasoning are bound to arise, but there
is always a solution to such issues. The Hypothetico Deductive Method, called H D from here on out,
is a way of reasoning about theoretical (dis)conformation where a person deduces an observational
prediction from a hypothesis. Said hypothesis is then tested to determine whether or not the theory is
confirmed. The basic H D model states HO, if the hypothesis is true, then the prediction will be
observed. This basic model consists of basic confirming and basic disconfirming instances of
experiments, which state, respectively, O/H, the prediction is true and observed, therefore the
hypothesis is confirmed, and ~O/~H, the prediction is not true and not observed, therefore the
hypothesis is disconfirmed. For the swan theory, an experiment would be set up in which the
experimenter

management disciplines, notably organisational behaviour and strategy. Yin (1994) has described in
detail case research design, and Glaser and Strauss (1967) described the grounded theory method.
Case research has its roots in the broader field of social sciences, in particular ethnographic studies
and anthropology. In this paper, we will draw on the experience of these disciplines as well as that of
researchers in operations and technology management. In particular, we will draw on the work of
Eisenhardt (1989), who brought together much of the previous work on building theory from case
research. Our intention is to provide a roadmap for designing, developing and conducting case based
research and also to describe some recent examples of case based research in the field of operations
and technology management. Most of the research conducted in the field of operations management is
based on rationalist[1] research methods, primarily statistical survey analysis and mathematical
modelling. However, since ``. . . the explanation of quantitative findings and the construction of theory
based on those findings will ultimately have to be based on qualitative understanding (Meredith,
1998),

Observation Of Justin s Most Challenging Behavior
The student that I will be observing is Justin Beiber. I have started intense data collection on Justin s
most challenging behaviors. Justin s most prevalent behavior is his use of physical aggression towards
peers and other adults. Typically, he kicks, bites, yells, screams, punches, and hits. Additionally, he
talks back, runs away, and flops. My first round of observations occurred on March 1st. Throughout
the course of the day, Justin s behavior occurred 4 times. Each occurrence lasted about 2 5 minutes
depending on the situation. The initial situation, which is the one I recorded on my ABC chart,
occurred during the transition from free play to independent work. This meant leaving a preferred
activity for a non preferred one. He behavior started with him running away from his one on one aide
and hiding in the corner. She chose to ignore his behavior. This led to Justin attempting to rip the
posters off of the wall. The aide continued to ignore him. This made Justin go sit down at the table.
When he got there and behaved, he received a star for his chart. When the aide tried to get him to do
his independent work, he hit her twice and yelled no thank you repeatedly. The one on one aide had to
remove him from the classroom to calm down for a few minutes. The second situation, recorded in ...

This has shown me that while the situations that occur in Justin Another Kid may seem far fetched and
exaggerated, these are very real things that we will have to deal with in the classroom. During class,
we discussed how an FBA and a BIP can be used to identify and manage problematic behaviors.
Additionally, we discussed the key elements of an FBA. Through my observations, I was able to
identify patterns of behavior, antecedents, and consequences. It was very similar to how we completed
the examples in class; however, it was much more fast paced and more challenging to catch all of the

American Born Chinese in ABC by Gene Yang Essay
People always seem to be changing themselves because they want the approval of others and are
worried what others think of them. They aren t happy about who they are, maybe its looks, or maybe
its race that they are concerned about, either way people try to change who they are. In ABC, the
author Yang reveals many common stereotypes about chinese people and the struggle they might have
in fitting in. Chin kee one of the main characters is very stereotypical and impacts Danny and Jin s life
greatly. Jin Wang the main character faces some problems fitting in because of his race and the
stereotypes associated with it and changes himself in order to fit in.
Chin Kee is loud, obnoxious, and can t speak properly due to his chinese ... Show more content on

Jin Wang is embarrassed to even be apart of his family by the way he acts and how he represents their
culture. He now can see how hard it is to fit in.
Jin Wang was born in America but is also Chinese. He faces some difficulties with racism and
stereotypes as he grows up. He just moved to a new school from San Francisco. The teacher
introduces him to the class and says, Class, I d like us all to give a warm Mayflower Elementary
welcome to your new friend and Classmate Jin Wang...He and his family recently moved to our
neighborhood all the way from China! (30). Jin has this look on his face of annoyance. Like, did she
actually say this. She is too ignorant to ask so she just assumed that since he is Chinese, that he must
be from China. He was born in America. This just shows how ignorant people are about other cultures.
It makes it even harder to fit in if people don t even care where you re from and just make
assumptions. Jin now experiences this first hand. He tries so hard to fit in and be normal. He goes as
far as changing his hair to match the guys hair that Amelia likes. When he isn t noticed as much he
wants to become someone else, someone who will fit in. He wakes up in the morning a new person, as
he has transformed into someone he is not, he thinks to himself, A new face deserved a new name. I
decided to call myself...Danny (198). He changed his race he didn t like his heritage and cultures so
much

Though the Aztecs didn t all die to the war, the Aztecs mostly died out due to the diseases that the Spaniards brought over. The Aztecs had pyramids comparable to the Egyptians, but on top of these pyramids the Aztecs built temples. These temples on the pyramids were used to worship the Aztecs three more important gods, Huitzilopochtli, Quetzalcoatl and Tezcatlipoca. But not only did they have house shrines, they also had schools, sacred pools, altars, gardens, and dormitories. Some temples had arsenals inside and ball courts. There were also large buildings, like the Emperor s palace. The palace consisted of four main rooms, balls courts, a ceremonial plaza, and even chinampas. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the Badianus Manuscript, there is a codex that explained how to use plants and trees to create treatments and ailments which contained over 180 recipes. These calendars were called Tonalpohualli (day count 260 days) and Xiuhpohualli (solar year 365 days ). Even though these calendars had different day counts, they coincided after 52 years. The Aztecs had a writing system consisted of ideograms and pictograms, and was very similar to the Mayan system. To understand these pictograms you needed to also understand Aztec cultural conventions. An example of a pictogram would be a corpse wrapped in bandages, which represented death. This would be a reason that the Aztecs were better than the Incas since the Incas didn t have a writing system at all. Whether it be an airliner with passengers or military carrier, air travel results in faster, more efficient completion of task. The way we navigate the skies can make or break the success of business or military operations. However, there are some dangers that exist. Being thousands of feet up in the sky leaves us prone to catastrophic failure of a component or detection and engagement from defensive air and ground forces. Safety is a must and as a result, advanced technologies, shaped and inspired by renowned conflicts and events, such as radar jamming systems , were developed in order to insure the safety of those on the ground and in the sky. At the dawn of World War II, the U.S. were in no way a threat to any other country, yet were serving partially as a provider for its European allies. Have been given freedom to do so by the Lend Lease bill, the U.S provided significant military supplies and other aids mostly to the United Kingdom and other allies involved in the war against Nazi Germany. It wasn t until December 7, 1941 when America joined the war after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. According to the San Diego Union Tribune, of the 32 teams that make up the NFL, 21 employed players who had domestic or sexual violence charges last year. Since 200, more than 700 NFL players found themselves arrested. The NFL s responses were either a brief suspension or no suspension at all. While the stories in her collection were meant to be autonomous, they were also testaments of her love and devotion to other writers who helped her become the writer she is today. She showed her marriage to Anton Chekhov by reworking his short story The Lady with the Dog, almost a century after the original was published. Year round schooling is better than regular school because, it allows the kids to retain more information and not lose what they learned, they also allow them to graduate earlier with higher retention levels. In discussion of Year Round Schooling, one controversial issue has been whether year round schooling is a good idea or not. People believe that year round schooling is a good thing and that it will increase academic achievement levels and benefit the students more than anything else. Thus, this means that whenever we study any text, we must develop a deep understanding of how the context impacts upon the purpose of the texts and the writers intended discourses. The comparative study of Elizabeth Barrett Browning s sonnets of the Portuguese and Scott Fitzgerald s Pros fiction The Great Gatsby allow for a thorough evaluation of the relationship between the texts contexts and values. Both composers craft arguments on the nature of and value of life itself within the framework of love and spirituality. Browning, however writes from the perspective of a woman challenging values of the conventions of the Victorian era. Whilst, Fitzgerald construct s his text as an indictment on the emerging hedonistic and capitalist creed of 1920 s America the Jazz Age. As we will move through the texts, the writer s context will influence their discourses and hence the meaning and significance we derive from each text. The Hotel Of Barton Fink The Use of Sound as an Alternate Reality in the Hotel of Barton Fink Barton Fink is a film that has no set plotline other than a writer who experiences writing block in a detached reality in a hotel. Barton s writer s block could stem from the fact that he believes that he has sold out to writing screenplays for large movie studios or it may be from all the distractions the Hotel Earle provides for him. The use of background noises within Barton s room and the hotel itself helps the viewer to see that reality within that room is slightly distorted. Sound that is perhaps louder than usual and prolonged moments of silence are ways that create a different atmosphere than the outside world. With a simplistic sound track that is used sparsely, it helps to keep focus on the dialogue or the actors onscreen. Barton admits that he chose that particular hotel to give him a quiet place to work, but of course, many of the problems he experiences seem to come from there. In this essay I will explain how the sound effects used within the scenes involving the hotel or the room create a different reality in that space. The first sound heard in the hotel is the continuous ring of the bell Barton taps to get the attention of the front desk. However, the BG400 lies north of that VEL. This implies that the BG400 is sold at a premium compared to the other projectors. . 5. Put yourself in Sony s shoes. You look at the answers to the 4 above questions. Given your capabilities and resources, what should your strategy be? Specifically, what would you price the 1270 at? Given Sony s superior 8 tube technology and its worldwide network of dealers, especially its 500 dealers in the U.S. market versus BPS s 100, Sony s primary goal should be capturing market share in the graphics projector segment. One way to estimate the price for S1270 is by using the value map from the previous scenario. After adding the S1027 data projector on the value map (as shown below), we can see that Sony has to price the projector in the range of $17,000 $18,000(Option 1)to be on the value equivalence line. Since Sony has a strong distributor presence in the US market, it can introduce S1027 at a price lesser than $17,000 to be at a value advantaged position depending on product margins. From Sony s point of view, if it were to price 1270 at $15,000 (option 2) this might lower the value equivalence line and put BPS s products at a value ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

How Did Queen Elizabeth Influence Her Family Queen Elizabeth I s family background and early life affected and influenced her political reign as well as her love life, which we see through her relationship with her family, her interaction with the suitors, and through her reign as Queen of England. Elizabeth was often referred to as The Queen of Compromise which sums up her political reign. While The Virgin Queen was also another title she had been given. While some may disagree, there is great evidence that suggests Queen Elizabeth fits exactly within these two titles. In her early life Elizabeth had a unique upbringing. For example, she never directly claimed to be catholic or protestant, and I think she did this so she could be revered by all of her people. She cared about her people and she always tried to have their best interest in mind. Since her father got rid of the Catholic Church and then Mary killed off many Protestants in order to restore Catholicism, she did not want to pick between religions, and instead she allowed people to practice their religion. Meadows does a great job showing a sense of realism in his characters by presenting them as average looking teenagers, that are being portrayed by unprofessional actors, but also exposes an issue, which has never before been so exploited before in cinemas nationwide, in which, England became well known for its racist and violent nature towards the blacks and immigrants who took most of the white British males jobs and that Thatcher was made responsible for the high unemployment rates. Meadows have successfully approached an often overlooked moment in cultural history and have exposed it for what it really is. It is also clear that not all men behave the same way that Meadows presents his characters on screen. In today s world, the new man has been created, which no longer bides with masculine characteristics, but instead coincides with feminine characteristics such as sensibility, loving and caring, which we see in the character of Woody and it proves that the representation of men have changed greatly over the years. The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Essays The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum by Heinrich Boll Authors often use characters within their novels to show the consequences of challenging cultural boundaries and, in turn, display their own personal concerns. It is not uncommon for characters to reflect an author s ideology regarding social groups in their contemporary time periods. It is clear that this is certainly the case with the 1975 novel The Lost Honour of Katharina Blum, (also referred to as How Violence Develops and Where it Can Lead), written by the German Author, Heinrich Boll. Through the use of his characters in The Lost Honour and Bolls personal life experiences we are able to see his concerns regarding the cultural boundaries within Germany. Boll has demonstrated a sympathetic leaning towards females through the lack of power and rights given to his title character Katharina Blum in correlation with his own political views. It is clear that within The Lost Honour it is Blum who we are supposed to sympathise with. This is clear through the satirical tone used by the less then objective limited third person narrator. One of the things implied about women, specifically Blum, repeatedly throughout the novel is the fact that they were created to satisfy men s sexual needs and little else. To the French, not only were their own markets shrinking, but also other great states were trying to take over the French markets. Therefore, it was necessary for France to take serious measures against such threat. Furthermore, he believed that it was the duty of the higher races to civilize the lower races, which led to the colonization of areas including Africa and Asia. Finally, Ferry also contended that as many other great states expanded their territories, France needed to build their naval bases around the world to compete at the world political stage; otherwise, France would face serious challenges from other powers. Although Ferry was left wing politician, he justified his support for the French imperialism based on the French national interests. To Ferry, national interests were first priority. • 31. Existentialism And The Absurd By Albert Camus In studying the works of authors, we are able to see the many factors that play a key role in their lives. These authors incorporate different components into their novels and stories to present a deeper meaning within their work. In his various books, short stories, and plays, the French Algerian writer Albert Camus relates to his philosophical beliefs: specifically existentialism and the absurd, as well as his connecting idea of rebellion. Camus most prominent works such as the novels The Plague, The Stranger, The Rebel, and others reflect these beliefs and ideas he held. Though he was and continues to be considered as one, Camus made a point of rejecting the label of an existentialist. Existentialism is essentially based on the idea that philosophy starts with the acceptance of being an actual living human individual or the realization of existence. The term existence before essence basically means that the after this recognition of existence, the essence, or qualities and defining traits, will follow. In existentialism a fundamental belief is that each and every individual has the responsibility of applying their own meaning to life and genuinely living life through this specific purpose (Wikipedia contributors). In these aspects, many of Camus writings can therefore been seen as reflecting existentialism. In popular Greek myth, the character of Sisyphus is sent to Tartarus for tricking the gods. • 32. The Core Responsibility Of A Corporation For many years, researchers held that the core responsibility of a corporation was to provide shareholders with financial returns. Carroll (1979) proposed that organizations have other types of responsibilities towards the society. In Carroll s view, at some stage society has economic, legal, ethical, and other expectations. The essential part of Carroll s definition of CSR is that a company has four primary responsibilities: to be profitable, observe the law, be ethical, and conduct discretionary activities. Drawing on those four responsibilities Carroll (1991) created a four level pyramid of CSR and stated that the CSR policy of a company must include all of them. Carroll placed the economic responsibilities at the base of the pyramid, since for a company to operate successfully, it must have a financial return. On the second level were the legal responsibilities which in order to be fulfilled corporations must pursue their economic objectives (Carroll, 1991). Placing the economic and legal responsibilities at the bottom of the pyramid was reasonable because those two are fundamental for a company to be successful. The ethical responsibilities were placed on the third level of the pyramid suggesting that organizations ought to conduct their businesses operations in a fair and appropriate way and ought to protect the stakeholders moral rights (Carroll, 1991). The Validity Of A Scientific Theory The world is a complicated place that works in mysterious ways, but people, with their inquisitive minds, refuse to let even the most confounding puzzles go unsolved. Science provides explanations for aspect of the world with no tangible evidence. But more often than not, science gets it wrong. One way to test the validity of a scientific theory is the use of the Hypothetico Deductive Method. The results of such a method provide evidence of confirmation or disconfirmation, though these results cannot always be trusted. The world is complicated, thus it requires an equally complicated instrument of discovery. With such complexity, philosophical problems in reasoning are bound to arise, but there is always a solution to such issues. The Hypothetico Deductive Method, called H D from here on out, is a way of reasoning about theoretical (dis)conformation where a person deduces an observational prediction from a hypothesis. Said hypothesis is then tested to determine whether or not the theory is confirmed. The basic H D model states HO, if the hypothesis is true, then the prediction will be observed. This basic model consists of basic confirming and basic disconfirming instances of experiments, which state, respectively, O/H, the prediction is true and observed, therefore the hypothesis is confirmed, and ~O/~H, the prediction is not true and not observed, therefore the hypothesis is disconfirmed.
