Gender Roles in Television Essay
Introduction
It is often said that the media and the arts are an accurate reflection of any given community. This is
especially true in American pop culture, where television shows depict the various stereotypes
attributed to men and women and the roles they play in society. House, a highly popular medical
drama that revolves around Dr. Gregory House and his diagnostic team, is a particularly good example
as it represents the true state of the traditional gender roles in American culture today by, both,
redefining and reinforcing them over the course of the show.
In Big Baby, the thirteenth episode of the current season, the show highlights these gender roles by
centering on the effects the recent adoption of Rachel has had on Dr. ... Show more content on

In Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes, Aaron Devor sheds light on this stereotype:
Feminine characteristics are thought to be intrinsic to the female facility for childbirth and breast
feeding. Hence, it is popularly believed that the social position of females is biologically mandated to
be intertwined with the care of children and a natural dependency on men for the maintenance of
mother child units.
Dr. Cuddy s confusion and fears over raising her adopted daughter indicates a significant shift from
this centuries old stereotype ascribed to women a radical redefinition of traditional gender roles.
Mr. Sensitive
However, this redefinition is not limited to women alone. Dr. Wilson is perhaps the most diplomatic,
sensible, and level headed character in the entire show as he constantly strives to broker a truce
between the clashing personalities of Dr. Cuddy and Dr. House.
In this episode, he reveals his emotional and sensitive side as he attempts to console a tearful Dr.
Cuddy who was struggling with maternity. He returns to her house later on in the episode and attempts
to cheer her up by bringing Dr. Cuddy an age enhanced photograph of a teenage Rachel. He tries to
get her to understand that the motherly love develops over time. He then admits that the photograph
came with the frame and was not Rachel.

Brazil s President Dilma Rousseff Stalls Betting Legislation
Brazil s President Dilma Rousseff Stalls Betting Legislation
Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has put a lid on the progress of the 671 2015 legislation that was
expected to offer provisions for the regulated spots betting and fixed odds. The president killed off an
attempt to legalize sports betting by vetoing 36 clauses before signing a bill that was earlier approved
by the country s senate. President Dilma fears that the bill lacks proper mechanisms to prevent
possible social impact. According to Ted Menmuir, the president cited that law makers needed more
time to review the context and framework of the laws. Government ministers have also supported the
presidents sentiments, by stating that legislation 671 2015 was far from perfect, thus needed more time
for assessment so as to help the government understand the impact of licensing sports betting and to
protect consumers.
Over the past decade, online sports betting has exploded globally and in Brazil thanks to the
improvement s in technology and growth of internet to the mass market. Different countries and
territories often exhibit different approaches regarding the legality regulation of gambling, over last
decades, Brazilian authorizes have taken a less proactive and restrictive approach to online gambling.
However, the changes being witnessed at the global marketplace has forced the citizens and
authorities in Brazil to start rethinking their strategies. Although the regulatory environment remains

A Growing Number Of Studies Essay
A growing number of studies (e.g. (Kowsari and Zerriffi, 2011; O. R. Masera et al., 2000)) investigate
the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that would influence
household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel switching to the modern
sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of household energy choice and
fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy Stacking Models (Elias and Victor,
2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and Mearns, 1988; O. Masera et al., 2000). These
models categorize energy resources into modern, transitional and traditional fuels given that different
cooking fuels are available in the region. Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as
superior because the inherent qualities of these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency
and sustainability when compared to the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the
transitional period; a period where traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern
fuels.
The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the
household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. However, the energy ladder model of
perfect substitutability among the cooking fuels with respect to the income fails to be supported by
most empirical evidence (Heltberg, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Lee et al.,

The Philosophy Of Passive Management
speaking, not true. In particular, it was assumed that the market is in the state of equilibrium (i.e. all
investors have finished to complete their portfolios), operational and transaction costs (payment of
intermediaries services, staff, information services, taxes, etc.) are insignificant, the investor has the
ability to receive and grant loans on the same risk free rate, and so on. Nevertheless, the idea that the
market portfolio is probably close to an effective portfolio, initiated a passive portfolio management.
This strategy means that when the investor prepares the portfolio, determining the expected return, he
is focused entirely on the market portfolio and he doesn t carry on to make any changes in the
composition of the portfolio after its formation. Hence is the name. The philosophy of passive
management is to minimize the costs of market research and the formation of the portfolio if there is
sufficient guarantee of obtaining a stable high yield. In fact, an investor, preparing the portfolio, is
focused on some reference portfolio (benchmark portfolio), i.e. portfolio with standard yield in
comparison with the actual yield of the portfolio manager. This is not necessarily to consider as a
reference only the market portfolio. There are dozens of different investment funds, called index
funds, which focus on the benchmark portfolio, consisting of securities, selected for a particular trait
(eg: a part of any index). So, there are index funds holding

Disadvantages Of Pricing Strategy
Price strategy refers to the enterprise through the estimation of customer demand and cost analysis,
choose a can attract customers, to achieve the marketing mix of strategies.
A good pricing strategy can help you determine the price point that maximizes your profit when you
sell your product or service. Although the customer does not buy goods that are too expensive, if the
store s commodity price is too low to bear all the commercial costs, then it will bring a loss.
Pricing strategy, a very critical component of the marketing mix. Price is usually an important factor
affecting the success of the transaction, but also the most difficult to determine the marketing mix of
factors. The goal of enterprise pricing is to promote sales and profit. This requires enterprises to
consider both the cost of compensation, but also to consider the ability of consumers to accept the
price, so that the pricing strategy has a bidirectional decision making characteristics of buyers and

gives some information to the consumer. As we already know, saving is important for future use. We
did not know what will take place in the future, so saving is quite important matters that should be
concerned specially by consumer. This research will give some information to the consumer about
what element that really influences their saving behavior.

Philosophy Course Required For Ib Diploma Program
Theory of Knowledge Essay In gaining knowledge, each area of knowledge uses a network of ways of
knowing. Discuss this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. ` Word Count: 1423
Theory of Knowledge, a philosophy course required for the IB Diploma program, is the most
challenging class I have ever taken. Throughout the course, we explored in depth of all the ways of
knowing and areas of knowledge. This class made me think about the knowledge that I know in my
life and how I came to know about these knowledge. For instance, I questioned how I was able to
obtain knowledge from every events that had happened in my life. I also questioned if it is necessary
to use more than one ways of knowing in order to gain knowledge towards my moral principles. I do
not know if I always use more than one way of knowing in order to gain knowledge in my personal
life. This title is interesting to me because I have always wonder if we need more than one way of
knowing in order to gain knowledge? Obviously, history can be defined simply as the study of the
past. Many people had questioned whether history is the study of all the past or rather a study of
events that have been deemed important by historians. This made me wonder how historians use the
ways of knowing in order to know what are important in history. Do they use their emotion,
perception, reason, and language in order to reach a conclusion of something that happened in the
past? For example, this

Pro Social Behavior And Social Behaviour
Pro social behaviour can be defined as any behaviour which has the immediate goal of helping or
benefiting others (Smith Mackie, 2007). Two neuropeptides which have been closely connected to pro
social behaviour are oxytocin and vasopressin. Recent evidence has shown that these neuropeptides
play an important role in mediating the regulation of social cognition and behaviours such as pair
bonding, attachment and anxiety (Bartels Zeki, 2004; Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi, Kikusui, 2012)
Through the use of neuroimaging and other non invasive techniques, such research can offer insight
into the understanding of the mechanisms by which oxytocin and vasopressin contribute to pro social
behaviour and may also help to explain the neural systems of ... Show more content on

This type of parenting stimulates the child s oxytocin system and causes them to seek more contact
with their parents (Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi Kikusui, 2012). These findings suggest that there is a
positive oxytocin feedback loop between the child and their key attachment figures, which is
necessary for facilitating a successful attachment. For example Fieldman et al (2012) found that
parents reporting more parental care in childhood have higher plasma oxytocin and provide more
touch to their infants.
Stimulation or blocking of the oxytocin receptors causes individual differences in parental behaviour.
In research conducted by Donaldson Young (2008) the infusion of oxytocin was found to stimulate
maternal behaviour in virgin rats that would ordinarily ignore or attack their pups. On the other hand,
oxytocin receptor antagonists are known to reduce maternal behaviours. From the above analysis it is
evident that oxytocin is the glue for parental bonding and can be seen to have a positive genetic
impact on parenting and future attachments.
Despite this, Mascaro, Hackett and Rilling (2013) note an alternative strategy for parental caregiving.
In their study, it was found that higher testosterone levels and larger testes volume were correlated
with a lack of paternal caregiving. When viewing images of their own child, it was shown that
activation in a brain area associated with reward and motivation did predict paternal caregiving

symbolism and crucial themes that were definitely worth considering. Yet, I often paid far less

Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story or
poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new perspective
on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes the voice of the
book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection
between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of
the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips
and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in their taking on direction, movement,
development, change...each trip made its particular revelation, though I could not have found words
for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter two, learning to see when reading requires looking
closely at the small details and soaking it in, in a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one
starts to carefully listen and look at the fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their
own voice, which leads into the next chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to
explore their own inner being. Welty best describes her encounter of this by explaining my
imagination takes its strength and guides its direction from what

Reflection Essay On Observation
To obtain knowledge, one must study; but to receive wisdom, one must observe. Observation, often
defined as the action or process of watching something or someone to gain information. Throughout
the semester, students within the education department had the genuine opportunity to both learn and
grow as future educators through observations outside of the classroom. Throughout the semester, I
chose to observe at the following programs: Breakaway at Westridge Church, Poole Elementary
School s Learning Bridge, and AWANA at Callie Harbin Baptist Church. As a future educator, I
learned that often observation is education as education and learning are so much more than a
textbook. For my first observation, I chose to observe at a respite event known as Breakaway at
Westridge Church located in Dallas Georgia. Breakaway is a cost free respite event for both special
needs participants and their families. This function allows individuals of all ages to enjoy supervised
entertainment and activities planned precisely for them. Breakaway, Outdoor Extravaganza, an event
consisting of carnival clowns, games, outdoor inflatables, corn hole, hayrides, arts, crafts, face
painting, petting zoo, music, and so much more. Through this observation, I had the genuine
opportunity to view life from different perspectives as special needs individuals enjoyed a day
prepared explicitly for them. For example, I had the opportunity to share such a joyous day with an
individual who holds my heart captive. I sat back and watched as he rode the hayride with his
volunteer; consequently, my heart filled with joy as he laughed the whole way through. Once the
hayride came to a close, he and his volunteer traveled to visit the fire trucks and see all of its bells and
whistles as he had the chance to climb inside. In addition to all the excellent outdoor activities, each
child had a chance to hang out, listen to music, see ballet dancers perform, and hear the word of God
brought forth through interactive Bible stories. This experience overjoyed my heart as I saw firsthand
that children with special needs paint the world with beautiful colors every day as they love more
profound than one s mind can fathom. For my second

Contract Breach
1. Introduction
Breach of contract is when one or both parties, who came to a mutual agreement, do not fulfil their
contractual agreement i.e. interfering in the other party s performance or non performance by one or
both parties. These are only two of the possible five forms of Breach of Contract.
The five types of Breach of Contract will now be discussed in detail.
2. There are five different forms in which Breach of Contract can take place:
a. Default of the debtor (mora debitoris)
i. Explanation
Mora Debitoris means that a debtor has failed to adhere to the contractual agreement in a certain time
frame. Be it not making a payment or violating agreed conditions of the signed contract.

iii. Legal Remedies with assistance of the court:
The creditor may retain the defective performance and claim for damages suffered.
The creditor may decline the defective performance and claim that the contractual agreement be
fulfilled as was mutually agreed.
The creditor is allowed to cancel the contract subject to the creditor reserving himself the right of
cancellation (Lex commissoria). If the performance is so bad that it is not practical to uphold the
contract.
d. Repudiation
i. Explanation :
This is when one or both parties intend not to honour their obligations under the contract. This may
occur before, during or after the fixed date as contractually agreed. The behaviour of the guilty party
must clearly indicate that they do not intend to honour the agreement.
ii. Example:
A party may deny the existence of the agreement
OR
A party may try to withdraw from a contract without justification.
OR
A party may give notice that they cannot or will not perform.
iii. Legal Remedies with assistance of the court:
The innocent party may choose to ignore the repudiation.
The innocent party may claim fulfilment of the contract.
The innocent party may cancel the contract.
The innocent party may claim for damages suffered.
e. Prevention of performance (rendering performance impossible)

Chemical Transmission Case Study
Disruption of Chemical Transmission
A) Holocyclotoxin
This Neurotoxin is found in the Ixodes holocyclus or Paralysis Tick
It produces proteins known as Holocyclotoxins that prevent acetylcholine release from presynaptic
nerve terminals. This damages or destroys the cells of the central nervous system. Experimental tick
paralysis in hamsters has been shown to impair potassium induced increase in miniature end plate
potential frequency at the neuromuscular junction. A defect in the mobilization of acetylcholine at the
motor nerve terminal has been suggested.
Ticks are known to inject toxins that cause local irritation or mild irritation, however most tick bites
cause little or no symptoms and are rarely deadly to humans, but can often be fatal to dogs and other
domestic animals. Tick borne diseases, tick paralysis and severe allergic reactions can pose serious

The Development Goals Of The United Nations
The United Nations was created after World War II, on October 24, 1945. It was created to provide an
international council that would promote peace between countries. They would work together to solve
international problems (History of The United Nations). It was also created to replace the League of
Nations, the United Nation s predecessor. There have been many peacekeeping missions conducted by
the United Nations, such as interventions in Bosnia, Rwanda, Syria, and Korea. They also have
Millennium Development Goals to better the world s health. The Millennium Development Goals are
eight of the world s major problems that the United Nations set out to solve by the year 2015. All of
the countries in the world are working to solve problems such as extreme hunger and poverty, and
maternal health (News On The MDGs.). These missions have tested the United Nations ability to
resolve conflict and keep peace. Failure is the inability to complete the goals you set out to complete.
Failure is the incapability of living up to the standards that you set up for yourself. The United Nations
has proven that they have failed to achieve many of their goals. Not only have they failed to provide
primary education to all children, but they also failed to prevent a major genocide in Bosnia, and
although there was some success in Korea, they still failed to bring together the North and the South

The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2...
The Pleistocene epoch was a time period of almost 2 million years of repeating glaciation around the
globe. This epoch was known for its megafauna that roamed the Earth during the last great ice age.
Although this was a time of mass extinction for species that could not adapt to the climate changes,
many mammals and vertebrates that can be identified today were found during this time
(Zimmermann, 2013). The Pleistocene epoch is an important foundation for understanding life that
exists today, including carnivores, herbivores as well as the evolution of humans.

It is estimated that mammoths had the largest biome on the plant at an estimated 1 square kilometer
per mammoth (Zimov, 2014). Herbivores of the time ranged from under 45 kilograms to well over
1000 kg, making for a wide range of diversity within the speciation (graph below). While many of
these mammals were preyed upon by the carnivores, some were simply too large to be killed by single
predators, causing them to be relatively immune to predation (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado,
2006). (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006)
The herbivores of course needed grasses and trees to feed on though, which became difficult as
glaciation occurred cyclically causing for many to die from lack of
livable environments. As the herbivore mammals died off, so did the predators that relied on them as a
food source. While many of the herbivores became extinct during this time, others survived in certain
places better than others. Native horses of North America for example existed before the end of the
Pleistocene but disappear from the fossil record in that area. Horses as well as many other mammals in
a similar situation still exist around the globe but were wiped out from their original habitats.
In addition to carnivore and herbivore mammals, there were also many different species of birds and
reptiles that existed. A common misconception is that dinosaurs lived during this time, but they had
gone extinct some 60 million years before the Pleistocene began. Some species of

The Era Of Civil War Essay
Times of Civil War

Abstract This historical event is very important to American People. This is how we as citizens
received our freedom. This event also helped the nation to progressed over the past years, to become a
better nation. I feel like if this event didn t occur than we as nation would not be able to accomplish
the things we had accomplished today.
The Times of the Civil War
The American Civil War (1861 1865), the nation could not resolve their differences between the north
and the south. The issue was freeing the slaves from captivity! President Lincoln was faced with the
issue of freeing the slaves. He knew with signing this declaration it will cause controversy between the
nation. He also knew that he has to do the right thing for the people but others felt he only wanted to
sign this declaration to win the votes of the minority. Even though, people had their own opinions
about his decision, they didn t agree with his decisions regarding this matter. On the other hand, many
other activist did agree with the actions of the president.
One activist that comes to mind with this historical event was Dr.Martin Luther King. He believed that
all people we created equal and that everyone should have the rights as others. One thing that we did
not learn in history that not all slaves were African American there were others who were in captivity

would be hampered which in return impede Singapore s economic growth. According to Dr Chua Hak
Bin, economist at Bank of Merrill Lynch, Singapore s tight foreign labour policy could cost the
economy 1.3% points of growth in 2014 which in the long run degrade Singapore s competitive
landscape with ailing domestic businesses. Besides dampening local business competitiveness, ageing
population and restricted foreign labour may lead to a lower level of innovation. As productivity
growth is associated with higher innovation and improving technology, reports from high income
OECD countries suggests that the median age of the population is negatively correlated with total

Examining the RNA Interference Mechanism in the dpy 13 Gene in C. Elegans Through Feeding
Mehdi Misto
Lab: Monday 1:00 4:50 PM
11 December 2012
Introduction: RNA interference, or RNAi, is a biological process in which RNA molecules reduce the
gene expression of an organism. This is done typically by causing the destruction of specific mRNA
molecules. RNAs are direct products of genes, these small RNAs can bind to other mRNA molecules
to either increase or decrease their activity like in the example of preventing an mRNA from
producing a protein. There are two types of RNA molecules that are central to RNAi, these molecules
are, micro RNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA).
The RNAi mechanism is found in many different ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This same procedure is repeated to transfer worms from the dpy 13 starter plate to the OP50 seeded
plate labeled dpy 13 . These plates are then both incubated upside down at 20˚C for 48 hours. This
incubation gives the worms time to grow in their new environment. In part 2 of the experiment we are
inducing RNAi through the process of feeding. To do so, a black pen is used to label the bottom of an
OP50 seeded plate with the date and wild type . Another OP50 seeded plate is labeled with the date
and dpy 13 . A black pen is then used to label the bottom of the plate seeded with dpy 13 RNAi
feeding strain with the date and wild type . Five L4 stage worms from the plate of wild type worms are
then picked and moved to the OP50 seeded plate labeled wild type . Any eggs or young larvae that
may have been accidentally transferred are to be picked off of the plate and then flamed in a Bunsen
burner. The same method is used to move five L4 wild type worms to the plate seeded with the dpy 13
RNAi feeding strain, and once again to move five L4 dpy 13 worms to the OP50 seeded plate labeled
dpy 13 . These plates are then incubated upside down at 20˚C. Part 3 of this experiment calls to isolate
the DNA from C. Elegans. To do so, we start by labeling three PCR tubes with the group number. One
of the tubes is labeled W for wild type, one is labeled R for

Comparing Luhrman s Romeo And Juliet
The Shakespeare play Romeo and Juliet is one of the most famous of all time. Because this play is so
famous, there have been several Hollywood producers who have decided to recreate the play using
their own styles. One of those movies was directed by Baz Luhrman and was released in 1996 and
there is also a movie directed by Carlo Carlei which was released in 2013. Even though these two
movies were both based on the same play, they both have very different styles in all of the aspects of
the movie and also very similar styles. There are many ways that these two films are different from
one another. One of these differences is the deliveries of their lines. In the 1996 version, you notice
that the actors say their lines very swiftly. The lines are also very close to the lines in the actual play,
you could barely tell a difference. However, in the 2013 version the lines are delivered more calmly
and collected. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the play you picture the outfits they wear to be formal corset dresses and armour. They wear all of
these things in both movies. They also have very similar camera angles on the character in the scenes.
They both always do both close ups and far away shots of the sets and characters. As well in both
movies, the lines said by the characters are almost or fully accurate to the play itself that you can
barely even tell a difference in them. These are all significant because they help you better understand
the play of Romeo and Juliet and help you know more about the time periods. In conclusion, both of
these recreations of Romeo and Juliet definitely have their differences and similarities. Both of these
directors had a different vision of what their movies should look like and how to incorporate the ideas
of Shakespeare into their films. Even though they are both completely different they both are great
representations of the story and the characters

While the women in the church have an organized discipleship effort happening, there is not a
concerted effort to grow men into faithful followers of Jesus Christ. The men of the church need a
program where discipleship happens intentionally. The scripture that First Baptist Church uses for it s
vision is Matthew 5:13. The City on a Hill theme comes for this verse. The idea is that we should be
salt and light to the world so that others will know Him through us. People are not committed
followers of Christ just because they study the Bible. That is only part of the process. The Great
Commission tells us to make disciples, baptize them, and teach them to obey (Matthew 28:16). The
Great Commandment tells us to love God and others. (Matthew 22). The New Commandment in John
tells us to love one another (John 13:34 35). The church needs to be able to forge relationship so that
they in turn can reproduce more Christians. The commitment level in the Sunday School ministries is
strong at First Baptist. About 60 percent of the Sunday morning worship is also in Sunday School.
Sunday School tends to be strictly educational in nature. The groups do take care of each other in most
cases. However, mentoring and further discipleship is not happening. The participation in other
discipleship programs is much smaller. As stated earlier, the groups that are meeting outside of Sunday
School are

Women s Christian Temperance Movement Essay
The recently formed Women s Christian Temperance Movement (WCTU) took up the campaign for
the vote in 1885. The movement was strongly linked to church and had the motto For God, Home and
Humanity. The WCTU had previously been involved in a temperance movement and this was one of
the main reasons they decided to campaign for the vote. According to Wood social climate had the
greatest effect on mobilising women into a combined effort to rid themselves of laws that
discriminated against them. Drunkenness and crime were two major reasons why women made the
move to throw off the shackles that prevented their recognition as equals with men. The vote became
imperative if the lot of women and children were to improve. The women s vote did have many
purposes, but improving the low moral level of society at that time was easily the most important.
Many believed that female franchise would lead to the purification of New Zealand society and the
Christianisation of politics. It was believed that women had a stronger, nobler vision for a pure society
which would lead to higher levels of sobriety and morality in New Zealand. The suffragists promoted
the vote as a way that women could have social control over undesirable elements in the population.
In the late nineteenth century women were beginning to find a place in the more public spheres of life.
Larger numbers of women than ever were in paid employment; by 1874 twenty percent of females
over fifteen were employed. Many

The when, in The Rocking Horse Winner is quiet a mystery, however the where in more conclusive.
Almost the whole story plays of in The House, the very pleasant but haunted house. Taking into
consideration when and where these two stories took place, one can come to the conclusion that they
are very different in setting, as the one playoff in a town square and the other in a house. In The
Lottery we can determine the exact time of the setting, whereas in The Rocking Horse Winner we are
not determine the exact time of the setting. Looking at the atmosphere within the setting of The
Lottery and The Rocking Horse Winner, one can make a clear perspicacity that the atmosphere of
these two stories had a great role to play and impact on the characters. Even though it is a lovely clear
and sunny day in The Lottery, the atmosphere is one of depression, stress, nervousness and fear. This
impacted the characters in The Lottery as they anxiously waiting upon the Mr. Summers and the black
box, no one was laughing but rather just smiling and all the women wore faded clothes. The
atmosphere within the setting of The Rocking Horse Winner, was also one of depression, stress,
anxiety and fear. Although not all the symptoms were present in all of the characters, Paul s mother
was the one that had all the symptoms due to the lack of money. Paul and his other siblings had fear as

However, this gave way to an entrepreneurial approach that primarily focused on local development
and employment growth in the following decades. This is mirrored across the capitalist world, but is
perhaps most evident in the United States where the reduction in the flow of federal redistributions
and local tax revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism and entrepreneurialism
(Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future growth prospects may all be
about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum development. To that, Harvey asserted that
urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on public private partnership so that local boosterism attracts
external sources of funding, direct investments, and employment sources, (2) is speculative in general
and thus compounded with risks and difficulties that are absorbed by the local public sector, and (3)
places emphasis on political economy rather than economic projects that improve living and working
conditions. The extension is a prime example of this because it was intended to bring business and
entertainment to the Hudson Yards neighborhood, and it did many businesses in the area have seen
increased profits since the project s construction leading to a development boom in its vicinity.
However, it faced its own risks and difficulties from the start, seeing that it was supposed to be funded
by an innovative tax incremental financing that issued city bonds for the construction to be repaid by
future tax revenue from developers (Jaffe,

Economic Crisis In Spain
Spain After experiencing a prolonged recession due the global financial crisis that began in 2008,
Spain started to experience a positive economic growth in 2013 that contributed to the end of the
financial crisis that the country was submerged in. Spain GDP (per capita) started growing slowly
from a $31,992.8 in 2012 to a $36,443.2 in 2016, almost a 0.9% increase (Refer to table for details). In
2013, the year following the crisis, the government successfully shored up struggling banks; and, in
January 2014, the government completed an European Union funded restructuring program for its
financial sector that increased private consumption. The unemployment rate rose from 24.78% in 2012
to 26.09% the following year. Staring 2014, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The GNP significantly increased in 2013 from around $39,000 to $58,000 million, and since then it

for Spain for the following years set the country to achieve one of the fastest growth rates in the
Eurozone despite uncertainties in the political arena. The Central Bank expects the economy to grow.
Some economists expect GDP to expand by a small percentage, but enough to help the economy to

Germany continues to be one of the world s most powerful and dynamic economies. Business freedom
and investment freedom are strong. Long term competitiveness and entrepreneurial growth are
supported by openness to global commerce, well protected property rights, and a sound business
regulatory environment. The German economy has gradually emerged from the effects of the global
financial crisis, which had an acute negative impact both on Germany s public finances and on its
economic growth. Actions required to hold the eurozone together have taken a toll, and the more
recent migrant crisis has had huge political, economic, and societal impacts within the country.

Here, you do not have to restrict yourself to think about the very obvious options, rather you can use
your creative skills and come out with alternatives that may look a little irrelevant. This is important
because sometimes solutions can come out from these out of the box ideas. You would also have to do
adequate research to come up with the necessary facts that would aid in solving the problem. By

Evaluate the Alternatives: This can be said to be the one of the most important stages of the decision

You have to find out the advantages and disadvantages of each option. This can be done as per the
research you have done on that particular alternative. At this stage, you can also filter out the options

Exploring The Tax Treatment Of Deductions, Losses, Sales...
Investing in real estate has become increasingly popular over the last fifty years and has become a
common investment vehicle. Although the real estate market has plenty of opportunities for making
big gains, buying and owning real estate is a lot more complicated than investing in stocks and bonds.
It is pretty common for people using rental property to offset high expenses and provide some cash
flow. However, the tax effects on these transactions can be complex and not well understood. This
paper is focus on describing the tax treatment of deductions, losses, sales and exchange for real
property, especially a mixed use rental property, where a property is used as a personal residence as
well as for rental purpose.
1. Types of Residential Property for tax purpose
For tax purpose, there are three types residential property, which are personal use, the mixed use, and
rental use. The deductibility of the expenses and rental losses depend on the categorization of the real
property belong to. Therefore, it is important to understand the categorizations.
1) Personal
Obviously, if a real estate is used for personal purpose not for rental or business purposes, it is
personal use real estate. However, it is still personal use when a taxpayer rents out his or her personal
residence less than 15 days during a tax year. Under this situation, the taxpayer is not required to
report the rental income and may not deduct any rental expenses other than mortgage interest and
property

Pros And Cons Of Harry Parr
Gas or Electricity Forward looking and keen to acquire one of the new electric fired kilns, Harry Parr
often discussed with Charles Vyse the pros and cons of kiln firing. Vyse was of the opinion that gas
was best, and Parr was one of the first potters to bring electricity to the Cheyne Row studios. Vyse
however, continued to fire his figures using the gas fuelled kiln he had acquired when Bertha White
became his assistant in 1919. From 1920, Vyse and Parr consistently showed their work at the Royal
Academy. Parr organised one or two Christmas shows at his studio, but most of his work he sold
through James Connell of Bond Street. His figures retailed at 25 guineas with Parr receiving his just

At Charles Noke s invitation, Leslie Harradine had designed the figure HN479 Balloon Seller,
sometimes referred to as the Balloon Woman. Harradine, consummate artist that he was, could not in
good faith model a facsimile of the Vyse original, and an unacceptable practice and against the law of
industrial plagiarism. The Harradine figure may be c0nstrued the amalgamation of two Vyse designs,
the Balloon Woman of 1920, and the current design, Tulip Woman, 1921. It is conceivable that
Harradine took the essential elements from both designs by Vyse, and amalgamated them into a new
and cohesive whole, cleverly modelling a vendor figure of which the Doulton studio wholeheartedly
approved. The first version of Doultons HN479 Balloon Seller had a Black shawl and grey dress with
white spots, withdrawn in 1938 (Fig. 35a). A additional version HN486 had a blue dress, but was
modelled without a black hat, this too was withdrawn by 1938. The version numbered HN548,
introduced in 1922, had a black shawl and blue dress, also withdrawn by 1938. The Doulton figure
illustrated with green shawl and cream dress (Fig. 35b), and numbered HN583, introduced in 1932,
withdrawn by 1949. Finally, Doulton introduced a further version HN697 Balloon Seller in 1925,
decorated with a striped red shawl and blue dress, and by 1938, it too has since been

Business Intelligence and Technology
Introduction
In modern business, vast amounts of data are accumulated, which makes the decision making process
complicated. It is a major mutual concern for all business and IT sector companies to change the
existing situation of mass data, poor knowledge and support better business decision making and help
enterprises increase profits and market share. Business intelligence technologies have emerged at such
challenging times. Business today has compelled the enterprises to run different but coexisting
information systems.
ETL plays an important role in BI project today. ETL stands for extraction, transformation and
loading.
ETL is a process that involves the following tasks: Extracting data from source operational or archive
systems which are the primary source of data for the data warehouse; transforming the data which
may involve cleaning, filtering, validating and applying business rules; loading the data into a data
warehouse or any other database or application that houses data.
ETL Tools provide facility to extract data from different non coherent systems, transform (cleanse
merge it) and load into target systems. The main goal of maintaining an ETL process in an
organization is to migrate and transform data from the source OLTP systems to feed a data warehouse
and form data marts. ETL process is the basis of BI and it is a prime decisive factor for success or
failure of BI.
Today, the organization has a wide variety of ETL tools to choose from market.

Proposition 203
Federal and state laws both govern the educational system in the United States, this includes laws
regarding how English Language Learners (ELLs) are instructed. The federal law, No Child Left

provide federal support for bilingual education programs, (Peregoy Boyle (2016). Reading, Writing

For example, bilingual education would allow students to learn English, while continuing to progress
in their main subjects. Students might experience less anxiety about succeeding because they may do
well in learning English and continuing to develop in their core subjects. Another positive aspect of
bilingual education, is the student does not lose their first language and thus becomes truly bilingual.
However, there are cons to the bilingual approach, for example, finding qualified teachers that speak
the various languages, learning English at a much slower pace and possibly being separated from
native English speakers. Structured English Immersion has its pros and cons as well. For instance, SEI
students will learn English at a much faster rate because they are hearing it much more, but there is a
risk that they may fall behind in their core studies. Both sides have been able to show studies that
support their argument, but it is reasonable to assume that the studies are difficult to prove because
there are many different factors that could affect the success of either

  • 2. Gender Roles in Television Essay Introduction It is often said that the media and the arts are an accurate reflection of any given community. This is especially true in American pop culture, where television shows depict the various stereotypes attributed to men and women and the roles they play in society. House, a highly popular medical drama that revolves around Dr. Gregory House and his diagnostic team, is a particularly good example as it represents the true state of the traditional gender roles in American culture today by, both, redefining and reinforcing them over the course of the show. In Big Baby, the thirteenth episode of the current season, the show highlights these gender roles by centering on the effects the recent adoption of Rachel has had on Dr. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In Gender Role Behaviors and Attitudes, Aaron Devor sheds light on this stereotype: Feminine characteristics are thought to be intrinsic to the female facility for childbirth and breast feeding. Hence, it is popularly believed that the social position of females is biologically mandated to be intertwined with the care of children and a natural dependency on men for the maintenance of mother child units. Dr. Cuddy s confusion and fears over raising her adopted daughter indicates a significant shift from this centuries old stereotype ascribed to women a radical redefinition of traditional gender roles. Mr. Sensitive However, this redefinition is not limited to women alone. Dr. Wilson is perhaps the most diplomatic, sensible, and level headed character in the entire show as he constantly strives to broker a truce between the clashing personalities of Dr. Cuddy and Dr. House. In this episode, he reveals his emotional and sensitive side as he attempts to console a tearful Dr. Cuddy who was struggling with maternity. He returns to her house later on in the episode and attempts to cheer her up by bringing Dr. Cuddy an age enhanced photograph of a teenage Rachel. He tries to get her to understand that the motherly love develops over time. He then admits that the photograph came with the frame and was not Rachel. Dr. Wilson s genuine ... Brazil s President Dilma Rousseff Stalls Betting Legislation Brazil s President Dilma Rousseff Stalls Betting Legislation Brazilian President Dilma Rousseff has put a lid on the progress of the 671 2015 legislation that was expected to offer provisions for the regulated spots betting and fixed odds. The president killed off an attempt to legalize sports betting by vetoing 36 clauses before signing a bill that was earlier approved by the country s senate. President Dilma fears that the bill lacks proper mechanisms to prevent possible social impact. According to Ted Menmuir, the president cited that law makers needed more time to review the context and framework of the laws. Government ministers have also supported the presidents sentiments, by stating that legislation 671 2015 was far from perfect, thus needed more time for assessment so as to help the government understand the impact of licensing sports betting and to protect consumers. Over the past decade, online sports betting has exploded globally and in Brazil thanks to the improvement s in technology and growth of internet to the mass market. Different countries and territories often exhibit different approaches regarding the legality regulation of gambling, over last decades, Brazilian authorizes have taken a less proactive and restrictive approach to online gambling. However, the changes being witnessed at the global marketplace has forced the citizens and authorities in Brazil to start rethinking their strategies. • 4. A Growing Number Of Studies Essay A growing number of studies (e.g. (Kowsari and Zerriffi, 2011; O. R. Masera et al., 2000)) investigate the impacts of various factors such as household income, and education status that would influence household cooking fuel choice and then inform the policies to promote fuel switching to the modern sources. Mainly, two broad conceptual models are popular in the area of household energy choice and fuel transition in developing countries: Energy Ladder and Energy Stacking Models (Elias and Victor, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Leach, 1992; Leach and Mearns, 1988; O. Masera et al., 2000). These models categorize energy resources into modern, transitional and traditional fuels given that different cooking fuels are available in the region. Modern fuels such as LPG or electricity are interpreted as superior because the inherent qualities of these fuels are relatively superior in terms of fuel efficiency and sustainability when compared to the traditional fuels. Transitional fuels are consumed during the transitional period; a period where traditional fuels are in the process of being replaced by the modern fuels. The factors influencing households fuel switching decisions in the energy ladder model are the household income, relative fuel prices, and fuel accessibility. However, the energy ladder model of perfect substitutability among the cooking fuels with respect to the income fails to be supported by most empirical evidence (Heltberg, 2005; Hosier and Dowd, 1987; Lee et al., ... • 6. The Philosophy Of Passive Management speaking, not true. In particular, it was assumed that the market is in the state of equilibrium (i.e. all investors have finished to complete their portfolios), operational and transaction costs (payment of intermediaries services, staff, information services, taxes, etc.) are insignificant, the investor has the ability to receive and grant loans on the same risk free rate, and so on. Nevertheless, the idea that the market portfolio is probably close to an effective portfolio, initiated a passive portfolio management. This strategy means that when the investor prepares the portfolio, determining the expected return, he is focused entirely on the market portfolio and he doesn t carry on to make any changes in the composition of the portfolio after its formation. Hence is the name. The philosophy of passive management is to minimize the costs of market research and the formation of the portfolio if there is sufficient guarantee of obtaining a stable high yield. In fact, an investor, preparing the portfolio, is focused on some reference portfolio (benchmark portfolio), i.e. portfolio with standard yield in comparison with the actual yield of the portfolio manager. This is not necessarily to consider as a reference only the market portfolio. There are dozens of different investment funds, called index funds, which focus on the benchmark portfolio, consisting of securities, selected for a particular trait (eg: a part of any index). So, there are index funds holding ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 9. Philosophy Course Required For Ib Diploma Program Theory of Knowledge Essay In gaining knowledge, each area of knowledge uses a network of ways of knowing. Discuss this statement with reference to two areas of knowledge. ` Word Count: 1423 Theory of Knowledge, a philosophy course required for the IB Diploma program, is the most challenging class I have ever taken. Throughout the course, we explored in depth of all the ways of knowing and areas of knowledge. This class made me think about the knowledge that I know in my life and how I came to know about these knowledge. For instance, I questioned how I was able to obtain knowledge from every events that had happened in my life. I also questioned if it is necessary to use more than one ways of knowing in order to gain knowledge towards my moral principles. I do not know if I always use more than one way of knowing in order to gain knowledge in my personal life. This title is interesting to me because I have always wonder if we need more than one way of knowing in order to gain knowledge? Obviously, history can be defined simply as the study of the past. Many people had questioned whether history is the study of all the past or rather a study of events that have been deemed important by historians. This made me wonder how historians use the ways of knowing in order to know what are important in history. Do they use their emotion, perception, reason, and language in order to reach a conclusion of something that happened in the past? For example, this ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Pro Social Behavior And Social Behaviour Pro social behaviour can be defined as any behaviour which has the immediate goal of helping or benefiting others (Smith Mackie, 2007). Two neuropeptides which have been closely connected to pro social behaviour are oxytocin and vasopressin. Recent evidence has shown that these neuropeptides play an important role in mediating the regulation of social cognition and behaviours such as pair bonding, attachment and anxiety (Bartels Zeki, 2004; Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi, Kikusui, 2012) Through the use of neuroimaging and other non invasive techniques, such research can offer insight into the understanding of the mechanisms by which oxytocin and vasopressin contribute to pro social behaviour and may also help to explain the neural systems of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This type of parenting stimulates the child s oxytocin system and causes them to seek more contact with their parents (Nagasawa, Okabe, Mogi Kikusui, 2012). These findings suggest that there is a positive oxytocin feedback loop between the child and their key attachment figures, which is necessary for facilitating a successful attachment. For example Fieldman et al (2012) found that parents reporting more parental care in childhood have higher plasma oxytocin and provide more touch to their infants. Stimulation or blocking of the oxytocin receptors causes individual differences in parental behaviour. In research conducted by Donaldson Young (2008) the infusion of oxytocin was found to stimulate maternal behaviour in virgin rats that would ordinarily ignore or attack their pups. On the other hand, oxytocin receptor antagonists are known to reduce maternal behaviours. From the above analysis it is evident that oxytocin is the glue for parental bonding and can be seen to have a positive genetic impact on parenting and future attachments. Despite this, Mascaro, Hackett and Rilling (2013) note an alternative strategy for parental caregiving. In their study, it was found that higher testosterone levels and larger testes volume were correlated with a lack of paternal caregiving. When viewing images of their own child, it was shown that activation in a brain area associated with reward and motivation did predict paternal caregiving (Mascaro, ... • 11. Analysis Of Fog Falling On Cedars Taking Flight I sit in this AP Language and Composition class trying to decipher the essence of the unending annotations and floods of random texts for the past quarter. Little did I know that I would be taking flight and soaring through the smallest details and threads of literary devices and techniques of analyzing language. Before this class, I looked at a book, aware that it was filled with potential symbolism and crucial themes that were definitely worth considering. Yet, I often paid far less attention to the way words are crafted in efforts to create a beautiful masterpiece. Who knew that the jargon used in Snow Falling on Cedars could significantly shape the overall tone of the book? From the years leading up to this class, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Welty describes the first steps of reading as human, but inward...It is to me the voice of the story or poem itself (Welty 11). Picking up from my knowledge of personification, I gained a new perspective on how books play an impact on how one thinks when reading a piece, as it describes the voice of the book as a human. Having said, this gave me the idea that books establish a personal connection between itself and the reader. Following through with the next chapter, Welty recognizes the value of the summer trips she experienced with her family. She makes an interesting analogy between her trips and reading by calling them stories. Not only in form, but in their taking on direction, movement, development, change...each trip made its particular revelation, though I could not have found words for it (68). Connecting this to the title of chapter two, learning to see when reading requires looking closely at the small details and soaking it in, in a way that one can look back upon it later. Once one starts to carefully listen and look at the fluidity and rich ingredients a book has, he/she can find their own voice, which leads into the next chapter. Reading spurs imagination which then allows one to explore their own inner being. • 12. Reflection Essay On Observation To obtain knowledge, one must study; but to receive wisdom, one must observe. Observation, often defined as the action or process of watching something or someone to gain information. Throughout the semester, students within the education department had the genuine opportunity to both learn and grow as future educators through observations outside of the classroom. Throughout the semester, I chose to observe at the following programs: Breakaway at Westridge Church, Poole Elementary School s Learning Bridge, and AWANA at Callie Harbin Baptist Church. As a future educator, I learned that often observation is education as education and learning are so much more than a textbook. For my first observation, I chose to observe at a respite event known as Breakaway at Westridge Church located in Dallas Georgia. Breakaway is a cost free respite event for both special needs participants and their families. This function allows individuals of all ages to enjoy supervised entertainment and activities planned precisely for them. Breakaway, Outdoor Extravaganza, an event consisting of carnival clowns, games, outdoor inflatables, corn hole, hayrides, arts, crafts, face painting, petting zoo, music, and so much more. Through this observation, I had the genuine opportunity to view life from different perspectives as special needs individuals enjoyed a day prepared explicitly for them. For example, I had the opportunity to share such a joyous day with an individual who holds my heart captive. I sat back and watched as he rode the hayride with his volunteer; consequently, my heart filled with joy as he laughed the whole way through. Once the hayride came to a close, he and his volunteer traveled to visit the fire trucks and see all of its bells and whistles as he had the chance to climb inside. In addition to all the excellent outdoor activities, each child had a chance to hang out, listen to music, see ballet dancers perform, and hear the word of God brought forth through interactive Bible stories. This experience overjoyed my heart as I saw firsthand that children with special needs paint the world with beautiful colors every day as they love more profound than one s mind can fathom. Chemical Transmission Case Study Disruption of Chemical Transmission A) Holocyclotoxin This Neurotoxin is found in the Ixodes holocyclus or Paralysis Tick It produces proteins known as Holocyclotoxins that prevent acetylcholine release from presynaptic nerve terminals. Experimental tick paralysis in hamsters has been shown to impair potassium induced increase in miniature end plate potential frequency at the neuromuscular junction. A defect in the mobilization of acetylcholine at the motor nerve terminal has been suggested. Herbivores of the time ranged from under 45 kilograms to well over 1000 kg, making for a wide range of diversity within the speciation (graph below). While many of these mammals were preyed upon by the carnivores, some were simply too large to be killed by single predators, causing them to be relatively immune to predation (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006). (Rodriguez, Alberdi, Azanza, Prado, 2006) The herbivores of course needed grasses and trees to feed on though, which became difficult as glaciation occurred cyclically causing for many to die from lack of livable environments. This is done typically by causing the destruction of specific mRNA molecules. RNAs are direct products of genes, these small RNAs can bind to other mRNA molecules to either increase or decrease their activity like in the example of preventing an mRNA from producing a protein. There are two types of RNA molecules that are central to RNAi, these molecules are, micro RNA (miRNA) and small interfering RNA (siRNA). The RNAi mechanism is found in many different ... In part 2 of the experiment we are inducing RNAi through the process of feeding. To do so, a black pen is used to label the bottom of an OP50 seeded plate with the date and wild type . Another OP50 seeded plate is labeled with the date and dpy 13 . A black pen is then used to label the bottom of the plate seeded with dpy 13 RNAi feeding strain with the date and wild type . One of those movies was directed by Baz Luhrman and was released in 1996 and there is also a movie directed by Carlo Carlei which was released in 2013. Even though these two movies were both based on the same play, they both have very different styles in all of the aspects of the movie and also very similar styles. There are many ways that these two films are different from one another. One of these differences is the deliveries of their lines. In the 1996 version, you notice that the actors say their lines very swiftly. The lines are also very close to the lines in the actual play, you could barely tell a difference. The men of the church need a program where discipleship happens intentionally. The scripture that First Baptist Church uses for it s vision is Matthew 5:13. The City on a Hill theme comes for this verse. The idea is that we should be salt and light to the world so that others will know Him through us. The movement was strongly linked to church and had the motto For God, Home and Humanity. The WCTU had previously been involved in a temperance movement and this was one of the main reasons they decided to campaign for the vote. According to Wood social climate had the greatest effect on mobilising women into a combined effort to rid themselves of laws that discriminated against them. Drunkenness and crime were two major reasons why women made the move to throw off the shackles that prevented their recognition as equals with men. The vote became imperative if the lot of women and children were to improve. The women s vote did have many purposes, but improving the low moral level of society at that time was easily the most important. Many believed that female franchise would lead to the purification of New Zealand society and the Christianisation of politics. It was believed that women had a stronger, nobler vision for a pure society which would lead to higher levels of sobriety and morality in New Zealand. The suffragists promoted the vote as a way that women could have social control over undesirable elements in the population. This is mirrored across the capitalist world, but is perhaps most evident in the United States where the reduction in the flow of federal redistributions and local tax revenues after 1972 led to this revival in civic boosterism and entrepreneurialism (Harvey, 1989). It certainly has far reaching consequences in that future growth prospects may all be about playing the capitalist game , the paving to a zero sum development. To that, Harvey asserted that urban entrepreneurialism (1) is based on public private partnership so that local boosterism attracts external sources of funding, direct investments, and employment sources, (2) is speculative in general and thus compounded with risks and difficulties that are absorbed by the local public sector, and (3) places emphasis on political economy rather than economic projects that improve living and working conditions.
