The Secret To Raising Smart Kids
The Way to Success
Thomas Edison once said, Many of life s failures are people who did not realize how close they were
to success when they gave up. When it comes to success and achievements, people often believe that
success is complicated and can not be reached easily. Many authors explain the reality on how we can
accomplish our goals and become successful. We recently read several articles describing the keys that
make us successful in our profession. The authors that discuss this journey toward achievement are
Carol S. Dweck in her article The Secret to Raising Smart Kids, Geoffrey Colvin in his piece What It
Takes to Be Great, Malcolm Gladwell in his novel chapter The 10,000 Hour Rule, and Jonnelle Davis

There are many factors that play a very important part in our lives. Consistent practice, a growth mind
set, and supportive mentors light up the road that leads us to success. If someone practice for hours,
but does not have a growth mind set or supportive mentors, then it is next to impossible to accomplish
his goal. And if another one has a growth mind set, but does not practice or has someone to support
him, then he can not make it to the end. Thus, all of these factors complete each other to pave the road
of success. Practicing for hours makes us better at doing that thing. Having a growth mind set helps us
improve ourselves. The supportive mentors give us the strength to make it through the bad times. High
achievers are not naturally gifted, but they had all the factors that helped them be where they are now.
Their hard work paid off nicely at the

Short Speech About Sperm
Sperm benefits? Give me a break! Right...?
Talk about sperm, and you will get a mixed kind of reaction from different sets of people. (Ugh!
What??) Sperm? What are you talking about? Are you crazy?
Most of you will agree. People don t even like talking about this wee thing, which actually instigates
disgust, only until you are talking about the benefits it can provide. Yes! Benefits!
Unlike some of you, or many of you, there are other women who swallow or eat sperms. For the only
reason that they know about sperm benefits . Sperm can make you appear more beautiful. You may

I know it s getting on your nerves now. Still, you have to believe me. Sperm benefits are limitless, and
one of these is its potential to combat breast cancer. Tens of thousands of people are dying of breast
cancer every year. Why don t they eat sperm and become healthy once again?
No, really. All it will take is a sperm. And who knows their breast cancer will disappear.
Sperm carries anti cancer properties. Also, many studies back this astonishing fact, while they have
good reasons behind it. So next time, don t run away from making love. It is more beneficial than you
ever thought.
Was a man ever so worthy? Only women could never get it? Huh?
8. Improve your immune system with sperms
Sperm benefits you with improved immune system, since it carries magnesium. Magnesium has the
power to strengthen your muscles, boost your nerve function, and thereby fortify your entire immune

Sexual Assault And Rape During The Civil War
Not only is sexual assault an ongoing issue in society, but there has also been a huge up rise of sexual
assaults in the United States military. Recently women have been given the approval to fight on the
front line in the Special Forces career field that was once male only career fields. For women, this
may be a huge achievement; there are so many risks and fears involved, I would be curious to see how
things turn out. Sexual assault and rape have been major issues in the military that is constantly looked
at by Congress for improvements.
Presently women are sacrificing their lives serving this country in all branches of the military in the
United States. Women are more involved in combat situations since the war began in Afghanistan and
Iraq. With the increase of women in the military came the increase of sexual violence. In the
beginning, very few reports of sexual violence were reported; over time the number of reported cases
became a huge issue that brought awareness to those that work with the President of the United States.
At that moment, processes were being looked at; changes needed to be made to find ways to give
confidence to victims, to feel safe enough to report the crime of sexual violence. The Department of
Defense is currently working on measures to alleviate the problem. Sex crimes on women in the
military can have intense effects on their mental, physical and emotional well being. Sexual
harassment and sexual assault also extends to include

How in the News Media the Image Becomes More Important...
Throughout the previous years, individuals view media for further entertainment rather then the actual
message portrayed. We simply observe or recite if the news media is outrageous or affects to the lives

providing newscasts has entirely disappeared. In the news media the images have become more
important than the message itself due to mass media. Audience and visual images have become more

The Overpopulation Of The Human Race
The overpopulation of the human race is killing the earth due to the consumption of natural resources
and not taking care of our planet. The human race as of the twenty first century is similar to a parasite.
Humans consume everything we can and do not help those resources grow back. The human race is
also driving animals out of their habitats, taking over those habitats and in that process putting more
animals on the endangered species index. The human population needs to be reduced in order to try to
save earth or so the next planet humans move to does not end up like earth. When addressing solutions
for the human race, you can be moral which the decision or be cruel and only worry about the future.
One solution that could help the world is China s one child policy. The one child policy was enforced
in 1980 because there were about thirty million more men than women were. This world today does
not have the issue that china had, however we are overpopulated and this policy could be a helpful
way to restore the earth. First, the one child policy will be a major civil rights issue. This should be an
exception, I myself would not have an issue with this because it will help save the planet and possible
save the human race from extinction even. Second, would be enforcing the policy worldwide. In order
to do this the governments would have to monitor areas, this is again is a civil rights issue. Third,

Two U.S. Vacation Hot Spots Essay
In all of my travels across the United States of America, the `hottest vacation spot hands down is in
Key West, Florida and the `coolest place to travel to is Denali National Park in Denali, Alaska. These
vacation destinations are the two most beautiful and most relaxing places in the nation! I personally
have experienced a week of enjoyment at both locations and find myself wanting to go back to each of
them in the future because I had such a great time. Even though these are both awesome places to

attractions and activities to do, and both vary in travel costs and various other expenses.

Since both vacation spots have different climates, they both offer a variety of different activities to do
and adventures to have. In Key West, vacationers are literally surrounded by water and have numerous
water activities to partake in like deep sea fishing, boating, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, jet
skiing, going to the beach, etc. I would suggest packing your travel bags full of shorts, tee shirts, water
apparel, and extra sunscreen! In the arctic area of Alaska, recreational activities include biking,
climbing, camping, fishing, hiking, winter sports, scenic driving, wildlife viewing, and visiting various
exhibits. Your travel bags for Denali National Park should consist of warm, water resistant clothing,
hiking equipment, camping equipment, and nutritional and energizing camping food.
One of the most important issues about traveling and vacations is the cost and the overall expense of
the trip. From Allentown, Pennsylvania, a round trip ticket for a week to Key West, Florida is going to
cost between four hundred and five hundred dollars, including a rental car and gas. However, a round
trip ticket for a week to Anchorage, Alaska, and also gas and a rental car to drive four hours north to
Denali, is going to be slightly more expensive. It is going to cost between six hundred and nine
hundred dollars to travel. These costs do not even cover food, hotels, or shelter you are going to stay
in. There will also be numerous activity costs like boating, fishing

Pros And Cons Of Living On Campus Life
Almost every young person who enters college education faces a lot of decisions, including which
courses they are going to take, which subject they will major in, and where they will live between
living on campus or living at home. The on campus dormitories have been lived in by many people
and some of them have absolutely opposing opinions. The change from home to dorm life can be
considered one of the most important events in the lives of students. Home life and dorm life present
two different ways of living in different conditions. The choice between home life and on campus life
can lead to complete transformation of the life of a college student. On campus life inevitably affects
the lives of college students, as well as their home lives. Though both of these experiences affect
students, there are pros and cons to living on campus or off campus, such as food availability, time
management, finances, and social life.
The most obvious difference between living on campus or living at home while studying is food
availability. The dormitory does not provide the individuals with an actual kitchen and has only a small
space for refrigerating food. Living on campus just provides students with mostly three options such
as cafeteria food, recipes they can whip up in residence hall microware or the closest and cheapest fast
food restaurants like Subway. Although all of these options could be delicious and tasty, sometimes it
is not suitable with the students taste, especially,

The Importance Of Students In Education
While schools work on improving students academic achievement, curriculum, instructional
strategies, and interventions for struggling learners , obstacles still remain for some students in the
behavior category. About one third of students fail to learn because of behavioral issues that interfere
with their capacity to pay attention and participate in educational instruction
School administrators and teachers have become increasingly frustrated with the impact of poor
student behavior on academic achievement in their schools. Teachers continually struggle to master
classroom management strategies that are proactive, preventative, and lead to improved student
achievement but with the implementation of behavior strategies and curriculum schools can take back
the classroom distractions. Approaches aimed at improving school and classroom environmental
behavior is taking place in the form of PBIS, (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support). This
includes reducing the negative effects of disruptive or distracting behaviors and rewarding the positive
behaviors displayed by students. This strategy can enhance the effectiveness of teaching and learning

Plea Bargaining In Criminal Cases
Austin VanDevender Application Assignment #3 A plea bargain is an agreement between a defendant
and a prosecutor; in which the defendant agrees to plead guilty in exchange for an agreement by the
prosecutor to drop one or more charges, reduce a charge to a less serious offense, or recommend to the
judge a specific sentence acceptable to the defense (Berman, 2016). A great majority of criminal cases
today are actually not decided in courtrooms but are decided by plea bargaining.
There are normally three different types of plea bargaining. The most common type of plea bargaining
is charge bargaining. This is where the defendant agrees to plead guilty to a lesser charge provided that
greater charges will be dismissed (Berman, 2016). An example of this could be getting charged with
attempted burglary instead of burglary. Next is sentence ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Plea bargaining helps attorneys by saving time. Plea bargaining is generally fast and efficient. It
allows attorneys to focus on bigger, more important cases which will impact society more. This
relieves pressure on attorneys by not having to go to trial. Also it can impact attorney s salaries. In
some cases, it may be in their best interest to get rid of a case quickly. Many states impose caps on the
amount of allocated to the representation of indigent clients; these amounts do not provide adequate
compensation for the time and expense of bringing a case to trial (Guidorizzi 1998). The defendant
can also benefit from a plea bargain. If the defendant pleads guilty without a trial then the prosecutor
can drop one or more charges, reduce the charge, or recommend a specific sentence. Lastly the victim
can also benefit from plea bargaining. A plea bargain can bring closure to the victim by knowing the
person who is guilty is not getting away with the crime, Also the victim will not have to worry about
testifying. (Guidorizzi

The protection of intellectual property is important and necessary in order to promote progress. The
idea is that by trading exclusive rights to the creators of inventions and creative works in exchange
that the creative work or invention to be available to the public is mutually beneficial to both the rights
holder and society in general. By granting these rights, the creators and owners are able to benefit both
socially and financially from that which they created. This provides an incentive for people to pursue

was the source of Fortres Grand s Clean Slate product. At both the district court level and at the 7th
Circuit of Appeals, this argument was rejected. The court found that it was implausible that a
reasonable person would go to the fictitious website and believe that the product there was created and
marketed by Fortres Grand. Conversely, it was equally implausible that anyone going to the Fortres
Grand website would believe that the products there were produced by Warner Bros. As a result of this
finding, the courts did not need to go any further to address any First Amendment or Fair Use issues.
The court further found that the use of the term the clean slate in the movie was not a trademark
infringement. They found that the term is too broad in its meaning or application for its use to be
restricted in other endeavors such as the movie. It seems that what Fortres Grand was really concerned
about was trademark dilution. The claim would be that the use of the clean slate in its movies and on
the promotional website would damage the Clean Slate mark and make it less appealing to consumers.
This would only be valid if the mark was considered famous which Fortres Grand knew would not be
the case with their Clean Slate program. This is probably why they chose to purse the claim of
consumer confusion instead of trademark

Those volunteers keep Breakaway running and come straight from the audience Breakaway creates.
They are arguably the best result of the mutually beneficial relationship.

Essay on The Linux
The Linux was originally founded by Linus Torvalds. In 1991, he was a second year computer science
student in Finland. He sought after an operating system that was similar to the UNIX system, but both
UNIX and the hardware it ran on were excessively expensive. A UNIX version called Minix was
available for free, but it did not reasonably meet his needs as it was simply an operating system for
students, designed primarily as a teaching tool rather than an industry strength operating system. As a
result, Torvalds studied Minix and proceeded to set out to write a new version. After six months of
working to produce the new operating system, Torvalds made very little progress toward the utility of
the system.

In many systems architecture, the kernel is the lowest level of software that interfaces with the
hardware in a computer. In UNIX, users typically have no direct access to it. It is responsible for
interfacing all applications that run in user mode including the physical hardware and allowing
processes to get information from each other.
Linux kernel developers designed kernel modules that could be loaded and unloaded at runtime.
Kernel modules are essential to keeping the kernel functioning with all of the computer s hardware
without consuming all of the available memory. A module generally adds functions based on the users
needs to the base kernel for things like file systems and devices. A kernel is essential for any computer
system to run and operate properly. The Linux kernel is different than OS X and Windows because it
includes drivers at the kernel level, and most other operating systems do not. (Salzman, 2005.)
The Linux operating system has been developed by many intelligent people. Around two percent of
the Linux kernel was actually written by Torvalds himself. Today, the Linux kernel has received
contributions from thousands of developers across the globe. Torvalds remains the definitive authority
on what new codes are incorporated into the Linux kernel. However, Linux distribution modifies the
kernel according to each of their users

The Causes And Contributions Of The Human Genome Project
Human Genome Project A genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The
human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes
in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A
single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNA base pairs, and it is estimated
that the entire human genome consists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what
a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is
a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so
the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of
the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with
genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP,
2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed.
In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI).
Fast forwarding to 1995, where the human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the
sequence of the first human chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed.

Current environmental health problems that will likely exacerbate due to climate change include
changes in air and water quality, and increase in parasite growth and chemical pollutants.
General climate change: cardiovascular disease, cerebrovascular disease, hypertensive heart disease,
and cancer will raise mortality rates.
Heat stress: most effected are the elderly population
Air pollution: Photochemical oxidants have adverse effects on human health. Inflammatory eye

Lifetime Bans Should Be Utilized in the NHL
For any professional athlete, there is a natural assumption of risk to one s physical well being. Players
are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger than their
competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The National
Hockey League (NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against
players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been a total
of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions were assessed due to dangerous,
and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44 suspensions occurring in the past
season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is. However, the frequency of behavior resulting
in suspensions has increased over the past several years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary
council assessing said suspensions. Despite the change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of
violence against opposing players. These players defense is that they are trying to preserve the
tradition and respect of the game by humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or

violent nature of the game, many players let their tempers get out of control. Because of various

California Gold Rush, Mexican War, Who found gold. Why the Mexicans didn t.
During the late 1840s, France had suffered commercial decline. France had begun construction on a
large scale rail network, but failed to budget their construction properly, leaving the construction
unfinished, and it s backers bankrupt. This cascaded further than the initial investors, as smelters who
relied on the railways to buy their metal lost a major purchaser. The resulting economic fallout lead to
unemployment across several industries. The lack of work for the majority of the populace led many
to poverty. At the time, bread prices began rising prices, further straining the economic situation of the
working class. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
While newspapers such as the New York Herald touted the grandiose tales of gold flowing in
California. Papers such as the Times of gand the Courrier des Etats Unis were more relaxed in their
reports, expecting newspapers such as the Herald to have greatly exaggerated the news in California,
as was expected of Americans at the time. In addition to the skeptical attitude held by the Courrier, the
gold rush did not reach national attention immediately due to more pressing matters at home.
Following the uprising came the freedom of the press, universal suffrage regardless of gender, and the
national elections for President of France; these topics dominated French headlines, and competed
against the reports of gold. Still, the gold rumors managed to pepper the daily newspapers. The
populace however, remained adamant that the reports were simply American fantasy. It wasn t until
December fifth, 1848, when President Polk delivered his State of the Union and confirmed the rumors
of gold in California, did the acceptance of the gold rush become unanimous. With the elections
drawing to a close on December tenth, France was in a frenzy, with the fervor of a new duly elected
president, and the dreams of Californian gold.

Symbolism In Director Luc Besson s The Fifth Element
Director Luc Besson s 1997 film The Fifth Element is an incredibly imaginative futuristic film
depicting the cycle of good and evil and the human factor involved with the infinite battle. Besson
carefully constructs this film to provide a human feeling to the film, providing emotional gateways
and glimpses of a character s intentions or purpose using frequent symbolism. In addition to
symbolism the use of vibrant color and lighting, or the lack of, is carefully considered within each shot
which sets the mood appropriately for the film s duration. The Fifth Element s cinematography does
portray an emphasis on the balance of light and dark and, in most cases, providing the effect of a very
serious problem with hope constantly changing between foreground and background as it does in life.
The Fifth Element takes place in the year 2263 and is set primarily on Earth. The narrative tells the
story of New York taxi driver, and former soldier, Korben Dallas(Bruce Willis) who encounters a
young woman, who is the fifth element, named Leeloo(Milla Jovovich) together they must fight
together to save the world from Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg(Gary Oldman) who is being directed by
the great evil, simply named Mr. Shadow. The Fifth Element has many uncommon traits, for example,
the antagonist and the protagonist never actually meet and when asked about this, director Luc Besson

Recovering Ideal Work from an Expansion Engine

potential remains for heat sinking by the cold N2 vapor, then brought up to ambient temperature (To =

start with that of battery operated or powered vehicles of comparable weight. The relative merits of
different ZEV technologies must also be evaluated on considerations (must) other than performance
such as environmental friendliness(less emission ) and commuting utility. While the specific energy of
liquid nitrogen LN2 or batteries is far below that of hydrocarbon fuels, the internal combustion engine
cars cannot operate without polluting emissions and this thus should not be compared with ZEVs.

Studies indicate or shows that liquid nitrogen automobiles will have relavent significant performance
and environmental related advantages over an electric vehicles. A liquid nitrogen vehicle or car with a
60 gallon to 70 gallon tank will have a potential(power) range of up to 200 miles, or more than that of

Baroque Music And The Renaissance Era
Baroque was an interesting period of time. It was originally originated from Rome, as a way to glorify
the Counter Reformation Catholic Church, and then spread beyond Italy to Spain, France, Germany,
Austria, the Low Countries, and England. In Baroque musicians started to practice multiple
instruments being used at the same time. As opposed to Renaissance era, Baroque art mainly worked
for pope, and important ruler throughout Europe. One of the new genre of music was Opera. The aim
of early opera was to reproduce elements of ancient Greek drama. Claudio Monteverdi is considered
to be the creator of opera as genre. Because of the main aim of early opera to reproduce elements of
ancient Greek drama, Claudio Monteverdi plots draw upon stories from classical Greek mythology.
Orfeo was one of his first work in opera genre, which was is a rescue drama due to main hero rescuing
his bride. From listening a short piece of it, to me it does sound like heroic drama, as the opening
music sounds very encouraging, I liked it. You can clearly hear toccata to be sounded three times to
show multiple use of instrumental sounds that were available to a composer. Vivaldi, Violin Concerto
in E major is great example of Baroque music, best known composition in the entire repertoire. Each
part is repeated at a softer dynamic level. I personally love this piece, not only because I enjoy
listening to violin, but also for its tempo, alternation and contrast. Messiah, Behold, a Virgin shall

Comparing The Pedestrian And The Flying Machine
The famous science fiction author, Ray Bradbury, wrote two short stories, The Pedestrian and The
Flying Machine, which utilize two different points of view. The Pedestrian is about a man living in a
dystopian, future society. He is arrested for taking a walk at night, which, in this time, is seen as
suspicious and even criminal. The Flying Machine is about an Emperor who executes a man for
inventing a Flying Machine that he views as dangerous and harmful. Narrative Point of View is the
perspective (First Person, Second Person, Third Person, etc) used in a story, or how the narrator tells
it. Third person limited is when the narrator knows the thoughts of just one character. The Pedestrian
is told from a Third Person Limited perspective, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Walking to see. This excerpt is showing how Leonard Mead s perspective is clashing with the cop car
s (society s) perspective. Another conflict is Person vs Person. This type of conflict is basically when a
character has a different opinion than another, causing a problem. The Flying Machine is an example
of this, because the Emperor s point of view is that the man s flying machine could harm, or be
dangerous for China. Call the executioner, said the Emperor. What s this! cried the flier, bewildered.
What have I done? He began to weep [...] Here is the man who has made a certain machine, said the
Emperor, and yet asks us what he has created. He does not know himself. It is only necessary that he
create, without knowing why he has done so, or what this thing will do. This part of the story shows
how the Emperor believes that the machine is harmful, and how the inventor is confused about how it
possibly could be. In conclusion, Point of View is an essential part of every story. It s used, not only to
build character s background and perspectives, and give an idea of the kind of world they re living in,
but to also build up conflict (whether it be between two characters, or a character and their society),
which is also important to all

Equity And Equality For Students
Equity and equality for students is all about enabling fairness and ensuring that all the students are
given the best possible chance to succeed in life irrespective of their identities or backgrounds
University of Birmingham (2015). In the course, we have learned that equity leads to success in
academic institutions and should therefore be encouraged. We have also learned that diversity is about
recognising, valuing and celebrating all the people from different backgrounds that live within our
societies. It is about creating a universal environment that is inclusive of these differences, where we
all feel welcome, valued and supported to succeed whatever our background or identity.
Equity and fair treatments in schools should however not be perceived to be about minority rights .
Rather, they should be viewed to cater for every situation in the learning environments and protects
every student from discrimination on the basis of their age, disability, pregnancy and maternity, race,
religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, sex and sexual orientation. The miss
conception has led to standardization of academic programs and the achievements that the students are
expected to achieve, irrespective of their backgrounds and capabilities, which is actually counter
productive. The question is, Does equality and equity mean treating everybody the same? According

Story Of My Body Short Story
People will judge others solely based on their physical appearances. In the short story, The Story of
my body, the author, Judith Ortiz Cofer comes to relations with this. She describes how she was victim
of judgment because she was a kid whom looked different than most American kids. Ortiz Cofer tried
to change everything about who she really is just to get by for the day without being judged. She was
labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This eventually led to her
being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she was treated due to her Puerto
Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to fit in. Minorities of different
complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many people every day. In this short
story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Rico but became a brown girl when I came
to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first sentence in the story and it s showing
how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for having a different skin complexion. Because
her skin color was too pale compared to others, in Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa.
She thought she was a black sheep in her own home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial
problems would end then, but in the U.S instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her
skin was then considered too dark colored. Her first racial prejudice racism occurred when she went to
a local grocery store owned by 3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed
the journey to and back from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to
Ortiz Cofer, the mean brother, which was the meat butcher indicated her as being colored. Ortiz Cofer
was surprised with his comment, not being familiar to this slur, she then suddenly felt saddened. She
then felt out of place again, just like she was in Puerto Rico. Another time of racial racism that
occurred in the supermarket was when she was playing with the Susie dolls hair, and she wanted it for
Christmas this year. The butcher caught a glimpse of the little girl playing with this Susie doll and

How Is Hollywood Portrayed In Saving Private Ryan
Steven Spielberg creates a master piece that entails many triumphs and loses. The movie, Saving

This ever changing people s history is left in the few remaining volumes the works of comedy,
tragedy, and satire (____________90) .
One of the earliest Greek records of satire can be traced to around 500 B.C. Early Greek satires (
Satyrs or Satyric dramas ) were in essence comedy plays, usually fairly bawdy, and often involved
men dressed as Satyrs (clearly the root of the word Satyric). Satyrs were mythological creatures with
the upper half of a man and the bottom half of a goat or horse. Satyr was one of three forms of
Athenian drama, nestling comfortably as a new genre alongside tragedy and comedy. Satyr was
quickly developed between the writers Pratinas, Aristeas, and Aeschylus. These new Satyrs did not
begin life as fully developed features they were instead used as interval pieces to relieve the
seriousness of tragic plays. These comic pieces, counterpointing and parodying the tragedy, became
extremely popular devices and led to the extension of the form.
Ancient Greek comedy was one of the final three principal dramatic forms in the theatre of classical
Greece (the others being tragedy and the satyr play). Athenian comedy is conventionally divided into
three periods, Old Comedy, Middle Comedy, and New Comedy. Old Comedy survives today largely in
the form of the eleven surviving plays of Aristophanes, while Middle Comedy is largely lost, i.e.
preserved only in relatively short fragments in authors such as Athenaeus of Naucratis. New Comedy

John Searle formulated the Chinese Room Argument in the early 80 s as an attempt to prove that
computers are not cognitive operating systems. In short though the immergence of artificial and
computational systems has rapidly increased the infinite possibility of knowledge, Searle uses the
Chinese room argument to shown that computers are not cognitively independent. John Searle
developed two areas of thought concerning the independent cognition of computers. These ideas
included the definition of a weak AI and a strong AI. In essence, these two types of AI have their
fundamental differences. The weak AI was defined as a system, which simply were systems that

The assumption is that the person is capable of understanding Chinese, simply because he can manage
to assemble a set of answers to questions that would be indistiquishable from a person who speaks
Chinese. The problem is that the person in the room does not understand any of the answers, but is
simply following instructions. Searle utilizes a system s ability to pass the Turing test as a parameter
in the study, though the person would still indeed not understand Chinese. Searle proceeds to refute
the claims of strong AI one at a time, by positioning himself as the one who manipulates the Chinese
symbols. The first claim is that a system, which can pass the Turing test, understands the input and
output. Searle replies that as the computer in the Chinese room, he gains no understanding of Chinese
by simply manipulating the symbols according to the formal program, in this case being the complex
rules. (Searle, 1980) It was not necessary for the operator to have any understanding of what the
interviewer is asking, or the replies that produced. He may not even know that there is a question and
answer session going on outside the room. The second claim of strong AI, which Searle objects to, is
the claim that the system explains human understanding. Searle asserts that since the system is

The Globalization of transnational crimes will have a major impact on the organizational management
of law enforcement. There will be a need for new types of strategies, the way that police departments
operate and functions must be changed, if they want to be effective in alleviating the globalization of
transnational crimes. There are a variety of organizational management changes that has proved to be
effective that should be offered to police executives and their departments in order to tackle the

To begin it will be beneficial for law enforcement agencies to change how they fight crime and deal
with transnational criminals. They should adjust the way they approach crime. By doing this they will
be able to tackle the effectiveness of traditional police tactics and have the ability to differentiate

There are also inventions to meet the objectives to maximize the scratch pad efficiency and to
minimize the frequency and influence of pop ups; they will be summarized below.
For the first invention, one must focus on the preparation, requiring little conscious attention, and
taking up little space on the scratch pad . In the writers perspective, the purpose of preparation is to
create shortcuts that will make resulting patterns of complex motor actions (like for example, the
fingering sequence) more or less automatic. While in the process, an approach can be marking one s
music at critical points, such as where accidentals appear and the location of key or tempo changes;
another would be using different colored sticky notes as cues for some aspects of playing. The mentor
must also be willing to help the student perhaps through bringing one to the performance venue,
letting each rehearse in the performance order, and requiring one to assume a ready position every
time he/she steps on the podium.
As for the second and third invention, one must increase his/her focal attention. To pay attention to
your music, not too much attention to pop ups, is the attentional process to be cultivated; trying to
suppress or fight negative thoughts may be counterproductive; one must be selective about when and

Human Social Perception Of Social Psychology
Human Social Perception in Empirical Literature
Human social perception is area of study within social psychology that involves the complex cognitive
system that is personal to each individual. Since each person has a unique cognitive system,
interpretation of social situations is unique to each individual. The differences in cognition and
perception between different people allows for varied interpretations, accurate perceptions, and
misperceptions. Social perception is an interesting topic that has been largely researched by a
multitude of social psychologists. The goal of this paper is to provide a brief description of social
psychology, a summary of social perception, some of its forms and uses, misperception, and accuracy
in perception.
Brief Description of Social Psychology
Social psychology is the scientific field that focuses on the individual within society. Due to this
individualistic focus, people are often studied experimentally within or in relation to social
environments. Social psychology studies the effects of social processes and cognitive processes on the
way individuals perceive, influence, and relate to others, in a systematic way, using scientific methods
(Smith Mackie, 2007). Due to the complexity of the human body and mind, social psychology is a
vast field that has been explored by many experts. As social creatures, people interact constantly
within an environment that requires complex cognitive and perceptual processes. As a result, the

Effects Of Colonialism In Jamaica
Like many other aspects of the Jamaican way of life, colonialism has shaped the way the media in
Jamaica functions, but the country has managed to maintain large elements of its culture.
In an article written in the Jamaica Observer, Haughton (2017) describes the state of Jamaica as an
under developed child who continues to depend on its parents for approval. For many years
colonialism milked Jamaica and other Caribbean countries by imposing a false identity on our people,
diminishing resources that affected growth and development (Haughton, 2017).
This false identity to which Haugthon refers, is indicative of how most countries that were colonies

physical violence. In fact, one contemporary study collaborates the motivation sibling rivalry before

Encryption Vs. Encryption Algorithm
D
The message to be stored in the database is converted to cipher text using encryption algorithm and
key. The resulting cipher text is then saved in database. When the user needs to get the actual message,
he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are generated
in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the
choice of encryption algorithm, key size and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria
goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data.
There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms
and through Hashing. Different encryptions based on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128,
AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value using hash
function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared
with the encrypted password stored in the database. If the result varies, then an invalid
username/password is entered. Hash functions commonly in use are MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA 1[13].

Do not avoid stress. You cannot run away from it. Even if you think you can, you will eventually reach
a dead end or it will catch up with you. When that happens, you will only end up with more stress than
you can originally handle.

First, it can relieve you of the stress that you are already experiencing. Second, it conditions you and
strengthens you so that you can endure more stress.
The ideal average time for exercise is a total of 150 minutes of moderate intensity activity spread out
over the days of the week. The physical exertion will strengthen your heart, burn extra calories,
improve breathing and circulation, release your body s natural stress relievers, lifts your mood, and
keeps you in tip top shape.
Balanced Nutrition
Food can influence your ability to adjust to excessive stress. If you improperly feed yourself either by
eating the wrong food or by eating the right food in inappropriate amounts you will become
vulnerable to stress. Make sure that you are getting your daily requirement of go, grow, and glow
foods. There is no universal formula for this. Each person has different requirements, depending on
the person s overall health, current medical condition, and level of physical activity.
Proper nutrition also means moderation with alcohol and caffeine intake, as well as avoiding cigarette
smoking. Alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine have been known to jack up stress and anxiety rather than
lower them.

The Secret ToRaising Smart Kids The Way to Success Thomas Edison once said, Many of life s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up. When it comes to success and achievements, people often believe that success is complicated and can not be reached easily. Many authors explain the reality on how we can accomplish our goals and become successful. We recently read several articles describing the keys that make us successful in our profession. The authors that discuss this journey toward achievement are Carol S. Dweck in her article The Secret to Raising Smart Kids, Geoffrey Colvin in his piece What It Takes to Be Great, Malcolm Gladwell in his novel chapter The 10,000 Hour Rule, and Jonnelle Davis in Liz Murray Shares ... And if another one has a growth mind set, but does not practice or has someone to support him, then he can not make it to the end. Thus, all of these factors complete each other to pave the road of success. Practicing for hours makes us better at doing that thing. Having a growth mind set helps us improve ourselves. Sexual Assault AndRape During The Civil War Not only is sexual assault an ongoing issue in society, but there has also been a huge up rise of sexual assaults in the United States military. Recently women have been given the approval to fight on the front line in the Special Forces career field that was once male only career fields. For women, this may be a huge achievement; there are so many risks and fears involved, I would be curious to see how things turn out. Sexual assault and rape have been major issues in the military that is constantly looked at by Congress for improvements. Presently women are sacrificing their lives serving this country in all branches of the military in the United States. Women are more involved in combat situations since the war began in Afghanistan and Iraq. With the increase of women in the military came the increase of sexual violence. In the beginning, very few reports of sexual violence were reported; over time the number of reported cases became a huge issue that brought awareness to those that work with the President of the United States. At that moment, processes were being looked at; changes needed to be made to find ways to give confidence to victims, to feel safe enough to report the crime of sexual violence. The Department of Defense is currently working on measures to alleviate the problem. Sex crimes on women in the military can have intense effects on their mental, physical and emotional well being. The Overpopulation OfThe Human Race The overpopulation of the human race is killing the earth due to the consumption of natural resources and not taking care of our planet. The human race as of the twenty first century is similar to a parasite. Humans consume everything we can and do not help those resources grow back. The human race is also driving animals out of their habitats, taking over those habitats and in that process putting more animals on the endangered species index. The human population needs to be reduced in order to try to save earth or so the next planet humans move to does not end up like earth. When addressing solutions for the human race, you can be moral which the decision or be cruel and only worry about the future. One solution that could help the world is China s one child policy. The Causes AndContributions Of The Human Genome Project Human Genome Project A genome is the complete collection of an organism s genetic material. The human genome is composed of about 20,000 to 25,000 genes located on the 23 pairs of chromosomes in a human cell (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). According to the Human Genome Project (2000), A single human chromosome may contain more than 250 million DNA base pairs, and it is estimated that the entire human genome consists of about 3 billion base pairs. Now that we have identified what a genome is, we will now examine the Human Genome Project. The Human Genome Project (HGP) is a project that began in October of 1990 (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). The HGP lasted for 13 years, so the end of the project was in 2003. Mapping the entire human DNA sequence was the main purpose of the program (Tortora, Funke, Case, 2016). Associating specific human traits and inborn diseases with genes at exact locations on the chromosomes was the goal of genomic mapping and sequencing (HGP, 2000). Figure 1 below shows the timeline through which the Human Genome Project got completed. In 1990, the project commenced along with the Ethical, legal and social implication program (ELSI). Fast forwarding to 1995, where the human physical mapping goal was achieved. Then in 1999, the sequence of the first human chromosome was completed. Finally, in 2003, the project was completed. Lifetime Bans ShouldBe Utilized in the NHL For any professional athlete, there is a natural assumption of risk to one s physical well being. Players are constantly honing their bodies in the weight room not just to become faster and stronger than their competition, but also to protect against the injuries that can ruin a season (Barrabi). The National Hockey League (NHL) was one of the last professional sports organizations to issue sanctions against players who cause concussions and head injuries. Just in the past season alone, there have been a total of 44 suspensions in the NHL (TSN.com). Many of these suspensions were assessed due to dangerous, and sometimes intentional, behavior. To many people, these 44 suspensions occurring in the past season may seem too excessive; compared to 2004, it is. However, the frequency of behavior resulting in suspensions has increased over the past several years due to rule changes and a new disciplinary council assessing said suspensions. Despite the change in rules, some still intentionally commit acts of violence against opposing players. These players defense is that they are trying to preserve the tradition and respect of the game by humbling new, arrogant players who unnecessarily show off or target star players (Jones). Although preserving this tradition is expected and necessary due to the violent nature of the game, many players let their tempers get out of control. French Involvement InThe California Gold Rush French Involvement in the California Gold Rush California Gold Rush, Mexican War, Who found gold. Why the Mexicans didn t. During the late 1840s, France had suffered commercial decline. France had begun construction on a large scale rail network, but failed to budget their construction properly, leaving the construction unfinished, and it s backers bankrupt. This cascaded further than the initial investors, as smelters who relied on the railways to buy their metal lost a major purchaser. Following the uprising came the freedom of the press, universal suffrage regardless of gender, and the national elections for President of France; these topics dominated French headlines, and competed against the reports of gold. Symbolism In DirectorLuc Besson s The Fifth Element Director Luc Besson s 1997 film The Fifth Element is an incredibly imaginative futuristic film depicting the cycle of good and evil and the human factor involved with the infinite battle. Besson carefully constructs this film to provide a human feeling to the film, providing emotional gateways and glimpses of a character s intentions or purpose using frequent symbolism. In addition to symbolism the use of vibrant color and lighting, or the lack of, is carefully considered within each shot which sets the mood appropriately for the film s duration. The Fifth Element s cinematography does portray an emphasis on the balance of light and dark and, in most cases, providing the effect of a very serious problem with hope constantly changing between foreground and background as it does in life. The Fifth Element takes place in the year 2263 and is set primarily on Earth. The narrative tells the story of New York taxi driver, and former soldier, Korben Dallas(Bruce Willis) who encounters a young woman, who is the fifth element, named Leeloo(Milla Jovovich) together they must fight together to save the world from Jean Baptiste Emanuel Zorg(Gary Oldman) who is being directed by the great evil, simply named Mr. Shadow. Baroque Music AndThe Renaissance Era Baroque was an interesting period of time. It was originally originated from Rome, as a way to glorify the Counter Reformation Catholic Church, and then spread beyond Italy to Spain, France, Germany, Austria, the Low Countries, and England. In Baroque musicians started to practice multiple instruments being used at the same time. As opposed to Renaissance era, Baroque art mainly worked for pope, and important ruler throughout Europe. One of the new genre of music was Opera. The aim of early opera was to reproduce elements of ancient Greek drama. Claudio Monteverdi is considered to be the creator of opera as genre. Because of the main aim of early opera to reproduce elements of ancient Greek drama, Claudio Monteverdi plots draw upon stories from classical Greek mythology. Orfeo was one of his first work in opera genre, which was is a rescue drama due to main hero rescuing his bride. From listening a short piece of it, to me it does sound like heroic drama, as the opening music sounds very encouraging, I liked it. You can clearly hear toccata to be sounded three times to show multiple use of instrumental sounds that were available to a composer. Vivaldi, Violin Concerto in E major is great example of Baroque music, best known composition in the entire repertoire. Each part is repeated at a softer dynamic level. Comparing The PedestrianAnd The Flying Machine The famous science fiction author, Ray Bradbury, wrote two short stories, The Pedestrian and The Flying Machine, which utilize two different points of view. The Pedestrian is about a man living in a dystopian, future society. He is arrested for taking a walk at night, which, in this time, is seen as suspicious and even criminal. The Flying Machine is about an Emperor who executes a man for inventing a Flying Machine that he views as dangerous and harmful. Narrative Point of View is the perspective (First Person, Second Person, Third Person, etc) used in a story, or how the narrator tells it. Walking to see. This excerpt is showing how Leonard Mead s perspective is clashing with the cop car s (society s) perspective. Another conflict is Person vs Person. This type of conflict is basically when a character has a different opinion than another, causing a problem. The Flying Machine is an example of this, because the Emperor s point of view is that the man s flying machine could harm, or be dangerous for China. Call the executioner, said the Emperor. What s this! cried the flier, bewildered. What have I done? He began to weep [...] Here is the man who has made a certain machine, said the Emperor, and yet asks us what he has created. In conclusion, Point of View is an essential part of every story. Equity And EqualityFor Students Equity and equality for students is all about enabling fairness and ensuring that all the students are given the best possible chance to succeed in life irrespective of their identities or backgrounds University of Birmingham (2015). In the course, we have learned that equity leads to success in academic institutions and should therefore be encouraged. We have also learned that diversity is about recognising, valuing and celebrating all the people from different backgrounds that live within our societies. It is about creating a universal environment that is inclusive of these differences, where we all feel welcome, valued and supported to succeed whatever our background or identity. Equity and fair treatments in schools should however not be perceived to be about minority rights . Rather, they should be viewed to cater for every situation in the learning environments and protects every student from discrimination on the basis of their age, disability, pregnancy and maternity, race, religion or belief, gender identity, marriage and civil partnership, sex and sexual orientation. The miss conception has led to standardization of academic programs and the achievements that the students are expected to achieve, irrespective of their backgrounds and capabilities, which is actually counter productive. The question is, Does equality and equity mean treating everybody the same? According to University of Birmingham (2015), everyone should be treated fairly regardless of ... Story Of MyBody Short Story People will judge others solely based on their physical appearances. In the short story, The Story of my body, the author, Judith Ortiz Cofer comes to relations with this. She describes how she was victim of judgment because she was a kid whom looked different than most American kids. Ortiz Cofer tried to change everything about who she really is just to get by for the day without being judged. She was labled different, all she ever wanted to do was to be like everyone else. This eventually led to her being depressed. Within the story, Oritz Cofer describes how terrible she was treated due to her Puerto Rican heritage and skin color, and how she would never be able to fit in. Minorities of different complexions get ridiculed and judged for their skin color by many people every day. In this short story, Ortiz Cofer stated, I was born a white girl in Puerto Rico but became a brown girl when I came to live in the United States (Ortiz Cofer 393). This is the first sentence in the story and it s showing how Cofer was right from the gecko being shunned for having a different skin complexion. Because her skin color was too pale compared to others, in Puerto Rico she was being called blanca or gringa. She thought she was a black sheep in her own home town in Puerto Rico. She assumed her racial problems would end then, but in the U.S instead of her skin presumably being too light colored, her skin was then considered too dark colored. Her first racial prejudice racism occurred when she went to a local grocery store owned by 3 Italian brothers to buy somethings for her mother, which she enjoyed the journey to and back from the store, in her new hometown, Paterson, New Jersey According to Ortiz Cofer, the mean brother, which was the meat butcher indicated her as being colored. Ortiz Cofer was surprised with his comment, not being familiar to this slur, she then suddenly felt saddened. She then felt out of place again, just like she was in Puerto Rico. Another time of racial racism that occurred in the supermarket was when she was playing with the Susie dolls hair, and she wanted it for Christmas this year. This ever changing people s history is left in the few remaining volumes the works of comedy, tragedy, and satire (____________90) . One of the earliest Greek records of satire can be traced to around 500 B.C. Early Greek satires ( Satyrs or Satyric dramas ) were in essence comedy plays, usually fairly bawdy, and often involved men dressed as Satyrs (clearly the root of the word Satyric). Satyrs were mythological creatures with the upper half of a man and the bottom half of a goat or horse. Satyr was one of three forms of Athenian drama, nestling comfortably as a new genre alongside tragedy and comedy. Satyr was quickly developed between the writers Pratinas, Aristeas, and Aeschylus. These new Satyrs did not begin life as fully developed features they were instead used as interval pieces to relieve the seriousness of tragic plays. These comic pieces, counterpointing and parodying the tragedy, became extremely popular devices and led to the extension of the form. Ancient Greek comedy was one of the final three principal dramatic forms in the theatre of classical Greece (the others being tragedy and the satyr play). Athenian comedy is conventionally divided into three periods, Old Comedy, Middle Comedy, and New Comedy. Old Comedy survives today largely in the form of the eleven surviving plays of Aristophanes, while Middle Comedy is largely lost, i.e. preserved only in relatively short fragments in authors such as Athenaeus of Naucratis. The Chinese RoomArgument Essay John Searle formulated the Chinese Room Argument in the early 80 s as an attempt to prove that computers are not cognitive operating systems. In short though the immergence of artificial and computational systems has rapidly increased the infinite possibility of knowledge, Searle uses the Chinese room argument to shown that computers are not cognitively independent. John Searle developed two areas of thought concerning the independent cognition of computers. These ideas included the definition of a weak AI and a strong AI. Searle utilizes a system s ability to pass the Turing test as a parameter in the study, though the person would still indeed not understand Chinese. Searle proceeds to refute the claims of strong AI one at a time, by positioning himself as the one who manipulates the Chinese symbols. The first claim is that a system, which can pass the Turing test, understands the input and output. Searle replies that as the computer in the Chinese room, he gains no understanding of Chinese by simply manipulating the symbols according to the formal program, in this case being the complex rules. Encryption Vs. EncryptionAlgorithm D The message to be stored in the database is converted to cipher text using encryption algorithm and key. The resulting cipher text is then saved in database. When the user needs to get the actual message, he/she decrypts the cipher text with decryption algorithm and the key [3]. Random keys are generated in encryption process and same keys are used to decrypt the data. The security solely depends on the choice of encryption algorithm, key size and how the algorithm is implemented. If any of these criteria goes wrong, it can cause adverse effects in the security of data. There are different ways by which encryption can be achieved, Encryption by means of algorithms and through Hashing. Different encryptions based on algorithms and key are DES, RC2, AES_128, AES_256 etc [13]. Hashing is the process in which the message is converted to hash value using hash function. For example, the password entered by user is encrypted to hash key value and it is compared with the encrypted password stored in the database. If the result varies, then an invalid username/password is entered. Hash functions commonly in use are MD4, MD5, SHA, SHA 1[13]. 5.1.2.1 Notations used for Encryption scheme Key is an important requirement in encryption process.pk is denoted as public key and sk as private key [5]. Encryption process is denoted by Enc and decryption process is denoted by Dec. Given a plaintext m and key k, encryption is defined as Enc (m, k) and Decryption is defined as ...
