This project provides several creative and technical opportunities for the student. Creatively, it allows them to design a web banner and product packaging, challenging themselves with new design skills. Technically, they can develop skills in software like Adobe Fireworks and InDesign to create various media like banners, advertisements, and print materials. The skills practiced, like design, layout, research, and working with different media, will be useful for many media and other industry jobs. The student is most interested in designing a web banner or product packaging as it allows trying new software and widening their knowledge.

What creative opportunities can you see in this project? How could you challenge yourself

It gives me the opportunity to design a web banner, which is something I have not been able to
do on this course. It also allows me to create packaging for a product, which will be interesting.
In doing this it means I can decide what sort of things I want to include in my project. It is
largely up to me which is a creative opportunity in itself and allows me to make use of design
skills I have gained as well as being able to develop them further for application in future life or
other projects.
What technical opportunities for development are available in this project? What technical
challenges could you set yourself? You can refer to your previous experience here.
It will allow me to develop my skills and learn how to create things such as web banners, tv
advert storyboards, print adverts etc. I could set myself challenges such as learning to use
adobe fireworks to create a web banner, or using other software which I haven’t had the
chance to use to undergo tasks such as product design. I could also further develop my skills
using Adobe InDesign in order to create a print based advert.
How could the skills you are using and developing here be useful in a professional context?
Consider the requirements for different job roles.
The skills which I am using and developing are hugely useful in the media industry. It will help
with a huge range of subjects from graphic design through to page layout and advert design.
Another way in which the skills that I am using will help me and be useful in a professional
context would be through the use of research. Being able to conduct research is hugely
important in the media industry and many other industries. It is extremely useful because it is
not limited to one particular job role or industry, but in the media industry this skill is essential.
It gives me experience in how to conduct research and how to lay out my findings, as well as
where to look and useful resources.
What opportunities for designing for different media does this project give you? Which final
product type interests you the most and why?
It gives me many opportunities to design different forms of media for example; it allows me to
design a storyboard for a moving image advert, a print based advert and a web banner in
addition to the product packaging itself.
The thing that I find most interesting is designing a web banner or the product packaging. One
of the reasons this interests me is due to the fact that I have not had the opportunity to do this
previously. Also it may give me the chance to experiment using different software that I have
not been able to use before, thus widening my general knowledge, which is arguably the most
important thing.
