What creative opportunities can you see in this project? How could you challenge yourself
creatively in this project? You can refer to your previous experience here.
During my research I have found out that Irn-Bru like to use risky adverts. Of course I need to
stay within the ASA regulations but I feel like this project will give me more freedom in the ways
I can advertise the product, unlike the SASH adverts we had to produce. People could have
gotten insulted very easily by charity ads so I had to be careful of the content.However, Irn-Bru
likes to use words with double meanings so I could use puns on the advert, a much more
conservative way of using the double meaning humour. I am not usually good with puns but I
do enjoy jokes and most of what I think is humorous.
What technical opportunities for development are available in this project? What technical
challenges could you set yourself? You can refer to your previous experience here.
In the original advert for Irn-Bru 32 they have a mascot, a big blue cuckoo. The concept behind
the cuckoo is very clever and I want to keep it somehow. I could turn the bird into a cartoon,
which would require me to use new technology. The images I will have of the bird will be very
limited so if the angle is not right then I will have to recreate it myself. This will be a challenge
but if it doesn’t work out I can just use a little cartoon that will be easy to draw. However I will
have to make sure it isn’t similar to the twitter logo or there could be some copyright issues.
How could the skills you are using and developing here be useful in a professional context?
Consider the requirements for different job roles.
Learning how to change the angle of a picture just slightly can be very useful. If the photographs
don’t look right on the advert but you are too close to the deadline to arrange another photo
shoot. Having a default of being able to turn it into cartoon and adding a few shadows to
change the angle can save a lot of time and therefore money.
What opportunities for designing for different media does this project give you? Which final
product type interests you the most and why?
Web banners can move which interests me. However this will be very hard to do and I don’t
think I will have the time to do it. Especially with the splash theme I am working with the web
banner could be very active if it were to move.
I’ve never branded a product before so this gives me experience in it. This could be good in the
future if a company asks me to redesign something. The design for the bottle or can needs to fit
with the shape and the angles need to be right or the whole design will look wrong. The design
on the product is what people see the most, it is on the adverts and in the shops so this is what
people remember. It has to be perfect or the whole brand will fail.

The design for the bottle or can needs to fit with the shape and the angles need to be right or the whole design will look wrong. The design on the product is what people see the most, it is on the adverts and in the shops so this is what people remember. It has to be perfect or the whole brand will fail.
