Design has an infinite amount of possibilities, variations and outcomes. All of which can be improved upon
and this is what I have found to be key when practicing and studying design. I have learnt to constantly
look for ways to enhance and progress myself as a designer and my aim is that through design I can
improve the lives of the people around me. Through working and studying in unique and fast paced
environments I have learnt to embrace all ideas as well as using my knowledge and the knowledge of
others around me to improve myself and them. Working at a new and forward thinking company would be
great for me as would push me as a designer, providing me with new learning and qualities. I would love to
bring my enthusiasm and strong work ethic to the team moving the company forward.
I have recently graduated with a Second Class (1st Division) BDes (Hons) in Product Design from Edinburgh
Napier University. The Product Design course at Napier University provided me with an outstanding and
diverse learning experience, which enabled me to acquire and improve a wide range of skills. The attributes
that I gained not only spanned product design, they also included a strong focus on graphic and interior
design. Other focuses of the course were regular sketching and concept drawing, computer and physical
modelling, presentation skills, manufacturing techniques and design markets.
My experiences are a large part of what has shaped me as a designer and as a person. Much of what have
I learnt has come though living, working and studying in China. My first encounter with China was in 2015
and was provided by the opportunity of an exchange program through Napier University to Zhengzhou
University in Hunan province located in central China. This eye-opening experience educated me on more
than technical knowledge, it broadened my ideals about culture, communication and people. Overall it
was a once in a lifetime event. This was until I secured the opportunity of an internship at Matrix Design, an
industrial design studio based in Shenzhen, China. This 3-month experience working in a fast paced and
high expectation environment not only again furthered my technical abilities in sketching and 3D computer
modelling, it pushed me far and beyond my comfort zone. Due to being the only English speaking designer
in the office I had to use my all my capabilities as designer to clearly and concisely show and develop my
ideas. The internship further educated me in producing high quality products and outcomes ready to
manufactured and presented to the customer.
My experience and learning has taught me how to diversify within design thus being able to contribute to a
wide range of working environments. I welcome any challenge thrown at me with passion and quality
insight and therefore this I why I believe I would be a valuable member of the team at any company and I
can’t wait to get started.
