- 13. 13 Stations as Revenue Generators • In 2 years Network Rail has increased retail space by 20%. • By 2019 it plans to have 850,000sq ft. • Network Rail collected £700m in retail income over the five years from 2009 to 2014. • • This is forecast to rise to £1.2bn in the next five years.
- 15. 15 Driving Growth • Desire for higher value knowledge-based jobs in city centres. • This means greater specialisation in key sectors. • Specialisation means more movement, longer trips, more congestion. • To connect business with their labour markets you need good connectivity. • To retain staff you need them to be willing to travel. • Agglomeration benefits: In space but also in time.
