Application Of A Chinese Culture
My organization has decided to outsource customer service to the Country of China as part of the
company s decision to cut back on operational costs. I have been selected to travel to China to train
the new employees about operational procedures. I understand as an American my cultural values
differ from that of Chinese culture, and I do not want to give a bad first impression by inadvertently
offending the employees and the management of the Chinese based office. If I am going to be
successful in my mission, I understand that I am going to have to study and know how to implement
Chinese culture prior to my trip. There are several factors I must understand before going to China:
1. The significance of Guanxi.
Guanxi actually means courting , and is a gadget of social networks and influential relationships that
facilitate commercial enterprise and different dealings. When one has successfully built guanxi with
some other, he can be quick to do a favor and act on another s behalf. Crucially, this is arrangement is
give and take, meaning that both parties can assume such favors. This frequently misunderstood
concept is vital in Chinese business tradition, and evidently it takes time for the parties construct
guanxi. Now not surprisingly, the procedure for Chinese enterprise people to believe a foreigner and
broaden guanxi can frequently take up to at least one 2 years.
2. The significance of Mianzi (face).
In Chinese language commercial enterprise way of life, it s far

Debate Over School Uniforms
The Debate Over School Uniforms
Context
In some countries, e.g. Britain and many Caribbean states, it is common for school pupils to have to
wear distinctive uniforms identifying them with a particular institution, especially to the end of
compulsory education at 16. In others, e.g. France, the USA, it is rare for uniforms to be worn,
although some private schools may retain them. In both situations the desirability of school uniforms
remains controversial among students, parents and educationalists. As a result of this some schools
have abandoned uniform at the same time as others have adopted it.
pros

Pupils without expensive designer clothes and trainers may be singled out as social outcasts, or
stigmatised as being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they
save them money on buying clothes for school wear
cons Students always find ways to tease or bully others, regardless of what clothes are worn. Those
who wish to be particularly fashionable will want to own the same number of outfits regardless of
whether they are allowed to wear them to school or not, changing into them the minute that classes are
over. Parents often find some uniform items, e.g. jackets, very expensive compared to the rest of their
child s wardrobe, and complain they can never be worn outside the school environment.
pros
Uniform has practical benefits when students are outside the school building. Being readily identified
with a particular institution may make students more aware of their behaviour while travelling to and
from the school, leading them to act more considerately, e.g. to other passengers on buses or trains. On
organised trips away from the school it is much easier for teachers to ensure they haven t lost anyone
and to monitor behaviour, than if students wore their own clothes and blended in with the crowds.
cons
Uniform makes students very identifiable and emphasises the divisions between

Essay On Native American Tribal Music
Music is one of the most influential parts of cultures all over the world, but to the Native Americans it
is pivotal. Native American tribal music is a very important part of most Native Americans history,
culture, and societies.
Music is an extremely important role of Native American culture and history. Generally, it was one of
the only methods that they had as a way to pass down traditions and their history from generation to
generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English
settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that
have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes
would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often
historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different
meanings. But the private songs were unchanged through the history and kept those tribes
history/culture intact forever. There were primarily six different areas of music in the United States
where different tribes resided. The main characteristics of all of these diverse areas were that they
were based on singing and percussion. The vocalization of these tribes range from solos, chorales,
unison, and multipart singing. Percussion was also very common, and the use of drums and rattles
were used to keep a steady beat for singers. Flutes ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In their societies, music is used for worship, work, entertainment, expressing grief, or gaining
strength. Many of their ceremonies and stories verbally allowed for ancient customs to be passed
down to later generations. The Native Americans believed that their ceremonial music was originated
from spirits or very respected individuals. They often performed rituals which was a major part in
their culture and their beliefs through singing, dancing, and

Statue Raising Equal Protection Issues
1. Why does this statue raise equal protection issues instead of substantive due process concerns
Substantive due process and equal protection require review of subastance of the law or other
governmental action rather than review of the procedures used. When a law of action limits thelibeity
of all individuals to do something it may violate substantive due process; when a law or action limits
liberty of some individuals but not others then it may violate the equal protection clause. In this case
because it s only applying to motorcycle operators and their passenges than it raises some equal
protection issues (Cross, Frank B. and Miller, L., 2012). This statue is more state interest to protect

Technology in Medicine
Technology in medicine has been evolving for over a fifty decades. It has changed and is still
changing the way medicine is being practiced. The pace of how technology has had an impact on
medicine differs worldwide. In the third world countries the introduction of technology has been slow
compared to first world countries. We cannot deny the prowess of medical technology and how the
crucial it is for the people s health and the society. There are disadvantages and advantages that
technology has brought however the advantages seem to override the disadvantages because its
positives are magnified.
Since the 18th century technology in medicine has been on the increase. There are a number of
medical treatments and equipment that where discovered a long time ago and since them they have
been enhanced by modern technology. The stethoscope first discovered by Rene Laennes (1816), Sir
Alexander Fleming also discovered the first antibiotic which opened doors to so many other
treatments for infections. Furthermore the first effective cancer chemotherapy drug (Nitrogen
Mustered) was first discovered by Alfred G .Gilman in 1908. Nowadays there are a number of options
offered for cancer. From the above discoveries new and modern medical equipment and treatments
have been born, which are being appreciated because they have increased life expectancy. In addition
to chemotherapy and radiotherapy a new form of medical equipment that targets only cell cancer
without damaging the healthy

Thrasymachus And Socrates Justice
Socrates and Thrasymachus: What is Justice? What is justice? This is the common refrain throughout
Plato s Republic. As a work of philosophy, Republic attempts to answer this question by posing
thought provoking conversations between Socrates and the characters he meets in his travels. These
characters serve as foils and counterpoints to Socrates and his own interpretation of justice. Perhaps
the most interesting counterpoint to Socrates comes in the conversation with Thrasymachus, a
skeptical Sophist who rejects a simple vision of what is just. Thrasymachus rejects a hard definition of
justice and argues that justice is fluid and a product of society, and while Socrates makes reasonable
counters to Thrasymachus, I ultimately side ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But Thrasymachus rejects this, and argues that because the powerful decide what is right, they can
make no mistakes. Socrates continues his argument by reasoning that a ruler s primary interest should
be the welfare of the people he rules, just as a doctor should be concerned for the welfare of his
patients. Yes, the doctor is paid for his work just as the ruler is paid to rule, but their reason for being
paid is to serve the interests of their people. But Thrasymachus ironically applauds the potential for
rulers to abuse their people, mocking Socrates and his interpretation of justice as prone to exploit by

Battle Against Evil
Night by Elie Wiesel and Hangman by Maurice Ogden both make strong points of view towards the
battle between mankind and evil. Wiesel s personal experiences give the reader very specific and
down to the point accounts of the Holocaust. In contrast, Ogden musical poem gives the reader a very
indistinguishable idea of what is taking place. One must examine rhyme over and over to be given the
full impact of the poem. The battle against evil may be compared on the basis of their narration, their
subject, their language usage, and their tone and mood.

I chose to interview Regina Geis, who holds the administrative role as acting supervisor for the
County Mental Health adult day program, which provides services for individuals with intellectual
disabilities. Ms. Geis has held this position for 15 months. This is her first managerial position within
a human service agency. Her style of management has changed over this short period of time. She
feels that she is now more direct with her direction with staff. She stated, Maybe now I come across as

She replied with Linear like Dr. Sprague (agency CEO).
Ms. Geis feels that the communication skills that one must possess in order to make advancements in
management are that one must be an effective communicator, know the work environment, and the
people you work with.
Edmondson (2009) discusses four different basic communication styles. The first style is expressive
which have a tendency to speak quickly, focus on the big picture, and have a high energy level. They
can be perceived as unpredictable, vain, or excessively jovial. Next are systematic who tend to focus
on small details, not on the larger picture, and try to avoid conflicts. The third type listed is
sympathetic. These individuals focus on people and relationships. They are good listeners and so
concern for everyone s needs. Sympathetics also do not like be at odds with others. Lastly, the fourth
communication style identified is directs who generally keep dialogue short and are perceived as a
multitaskers. The study recommends that the individual discover her own communication style and
adjust the style according to the situation.
Grant and Taylor (2014) conducted a study which identified six essential communication traits that

The Spread of Buddhism Essay
The Spread of Buddhism
Buddhism is a philosophy, a moral code, and, for some a religious faith which originated in 530 BC in
India. Buddhism evolved as a modification of Hinduism when Hinduism started to become very
complicated due to too many sacrifices in the name of God. Today, an estimated 300 million people
follow one of the many varieties of Buddhism.
Budda, or Siddhartha Guatama which means the awakened one had the religion named after him
because he founded the ideas behind Buddhism. Budda, a very wealthy man, was not fulfilled with his
life. One day, he decided to leave his home and wondered through the forest, nearly starving himself
to death, in search of the answer to his discontent. Nearing death, a woman found ... Show more

The traditionalists, now referred to as Sthaviravada or way of the elders developed a complex set of
philosophical ideas beyond those taught by Buddha. These were collected into the Abhidharma or
higher teachings. But they, too, encouraged disagreements, so that one group after another left the
fold. Ultimately, 18 schools developed, each with their own interpretations of various issues, and
spread all over India and Southeast Asia.
A significant development happened at the same time as the Buddhist movement began to spread and
that was the opening of a new way through, from India to China. Today, we call this way the Silk
Road , and we associate it with famous travelers like Marco Polo, whose journeys to China astounded
the Europeans of his day.
The route was first established by the Chinese in search of horses and trade. It dates back to the
second century BC. From that time, it became a regular journey for traders seeking to make a small
fortune. In the following centuries, the route fell under control of different political groups, but was
always well used until the 15th century AD when sea trade dominated.
From early days, silk was exported from China to Italy where it became immensely popular. Grapes
and wine making were soon introduced to the East as well as perfumes, spices, unknown animals and
birds such as peacocks. From China, we first encountered roses, oranges and pears. There was
considerable cost to transport all

Statistics Can Reduce Internet Fraud Essay
Many online auction sites help consumers bid on items they might want to possess. These sites include
eBay, WebStore, ebid, OnlineAuction, OZtion, Overstock, and a whole slew of others. Currently there
is no system to protect consumers from fraudulent sales. When someone bids for an item, consumers
trust both the seller and the online auctioneer to be both honest and ethical when presenting items for
bid. Many of the auction houses, including Sotheby s and Christie s have their experts examine each
piece to prove authenticity. However, it is not all bad news. To help protect consumers from fraud,
Joseph Gastwirth and Wesley Johnson have found that the use of statistics answers the problem of
authenticity. Joseph ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Idea Of Narcissistic Love
Another example that frames a negative love through a more narcissistic form of intemperance
combined with a necessity (a counterpart to freedom). The contrast of a narcissistic love (an evil love
that necessitates tyrannical measures) to a sacrificial love that promotes freedom reinforces the ways
in which love is framed as good or evil. The description between the attributes of the gates to the
gardens shows these opposing differences. The Book 2, Canto 12, Stanza 43 opens with goodly it was
enclosed round about, which immediately gives the sense that this enclosure is not inclusive. The
following lines, as well their entered guests to keep within / as those unruly beasts to hold without are
juxtaposed to one another and opposed in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the mirror stanza in Adonis garden allows freedom by which both in and out men moten
pas, portraying a good love as giving, taking/receiving and letting go (III.2.31). This is in opposition
to Acrasia s exclusive love, whereas a good love demonstrates inclusivity. Looking at this from an
overarching view, Acrasia s love necessitates a rationale to subjugate its guests as opposed to Adonis
garden that represents freedom two extremes that constantly exert push and pull forces on one another.
In each mirrored stanza their power relations further demonstrates the way frame in which Spenser
defines a negative positive love. Accordingly, in Acrasia s garden the line, wisdoms power and
temperance s might displays a fear of temperance and wisdom as well as an inability to defend against
a justified good love and eke the gate was wrought of substance light / rather for pleasure, then for
battery or fight; Spenser frames a bad love as a thin, weak fence that fears a good love s dominant
power. In contrast, good love conjures a picture equivalent to the gates of heaven the one of iron, the
other of bright gold, and further reinforced by its impenetrability, that none might thorough break, nor

Scanlon Company
Milestone1 If you ask any successful and profitable company with a huge organization what makes
their company continue to stay this way they will most likely tell you something along the lines of
how they collaborate and infuse ideas from their group by communicating effectively to convey the
message they are trying to get across. Organizations that keep their teams up to date on the company s
situation and also take into consideration their employees ideas and suggestions are far more likely to
have higher morale which in turn leads to better productivity and drive in sales. At the Engstrom Auto

The Scanlon Plan is a plan based on the idea that incentives for employees will build company morale
and also increase sales and productivity by rewarding employees for their performance. This is exactly
what the company needed because what the company was facing now was a direct consequence from
management not being upfront and honest with their employees. There is a direct correlation between
communication and profitability. At the plant communication was poor and management did not fully
explain the business conditions to their employees to make them aware of what was going on. In order
to fix this problem they needed to fix how they communicate with their employees directly. With
Scanlon, employees feel as if they apart of the bigger picture. When employees feel like they are apart
of a team culture they are more willing to accept new methods and are willing to cooperate better to
change. By doing this, good communication within the organization between management and their
employees will likely increase in a positive direction as well (Beer Collins, 2008). The way to be able
to execute this plan is by making sure that the plant discusses the

Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix
Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities.
Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history
around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms .
However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are
temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between
human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary,
the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with
wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with
the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities
form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to
the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their
identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are
disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they
have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds
and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a
German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles
(Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes
in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces
two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the
Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor,
and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. In this society, the Bourgeois has the
identity of being rich, and the Proletariat owns the identity of being poor. As long as the Bourgeois
exists, the

The background and scope into this project is that children are being abused in refugee camps and it is

The Natural And Physical Inequality
Unavoidably, every person enters the world with a unique set of talents, dispositions and attributes
which lead him or her to perform better or worse than another person in certain realms. Rousseau calls
this natural or physical inequality: one may be stronger, quicker or smarter than another, and as such
able to complete more tasks than another. Rousseau argues that none of this matters in the state of
nature because, similar to animals, mankind concerns itself with self preservation. Family bonds, or
any other sort of organization of a group of people, do not exist in this state. The complete self
sufficiency of each person means nobody needs to exercise control or domination of any sort over any
other person to survive or enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle. I see him satisfying his hunger under an
oak tree, quenching his thirst at the first stream, finding his bed at the foot of the same tree that
supplied his meal; and thus all his needs are satisfied (Rousseau 47). Perhaps one more adept at
finding food, whether by speed or size, will more easily satisfy his hunger and have more time to rest
at the foot of the tree or to enjoy relations with those passing by. While this does provide an
advantage, every person effectively lives the same sort of life, free of dominion of any sort. Similarly,
Smith writes that talents of men differ on the basis of the realm they most naturally aspire to. While
one man may inevitably be stronger than a second, the same second may

coaching and mentoring Essay
416: The coaching and mentoring roles
The word mentor comes from the The Odyssey, written by the Greek poet Homer. As Odysseus
(Ulysses in the Latin translation) is preparing to go to fight the Trojan war, he realises he is leaving
behind his one and only heir, Telemachus. Since Telemachus is only of primary school age, and since
wars tended to drag on for many years, Odysseus recognises that Telemachus needs to be coached on
how to be king whilst he is off fighting. He engages a family friend named Mentor to be his sons tutor.
Mentor is both wise and sensitive two important ingredients of world class ment. (Chip R. Bell 1998)

Coaching is defined as; developing a person s skills and knowledge so that their job performance
improves, hopefully leading to the achievement of organisational objectives. It targets high
performance and improvement at work, although it may also have an impact on an individual s private
life. It usually lasts for a short period and focuses on specific skills and goals. a process that enables

Coaching is task oriented. The focus is on concrete issues, such as managing more effectively,
speaking more articulately, and learning how to think strategically. This requires a content expert
(coach) who is capable of teaching the coachee how to develop these skills.
A coach can successfully be involved with a coachee for a short period of time, maybe even just a few

Significant Events that Shaped America between 1940 and 1980
From 1940 to 1980 there were many significant events that shaped America. Events in history are not
defined by how they actually happened but how they were interpreted. Be it by the people of that land
or other lands looking in. In what ways do people receive the important news? News comes through
media outlets such as radio, newspaper and television. Americans especially tend to take things at face
value. This information must be true, I read it in a newspaper. In 1941 Japan attacked Pearl Harbor
and in the coming weeks thanks to newspaper, men and underage boys were lined up in a fury ready to
serve their country and the United States declares war on Japan. In the same year Hitler declares war
on the United States. The United States drops the Atomic bomb and Japan surrenders.
It was not possible to call up a loved one off at war to catch up. In 1948 there was the Berlin Airlift,
and 1949 NATO was established. In 1950 the McCarthy Hearings begin and are wildly popular on
almost every radio station. In 1954 Brown v.Board of Education is decided and the Civil Rights
movement begins to cause a stir in the early 60s. The Cuban Missile Crisis, Kennedy is assassinated,
race riots, Tet offensive, the end o the Vietnam War, Watergate. All newsworthy events, each rich with
detail and the only way the American public knew what was going on half way around the world was
daily broadcasts in the paper and on the radio.

Gobelin Tapestries Essay
Gobelin Tapestries What is lovely never dies, but passes into other loveliness. Thomas Bailey Aldrich
Throughout the 17th and 18th century many memorable works of art were created. There is one piece
of art that stands out they are the Gobelins. Gobelins are luxurious tapestries made out many fine

They have inspired generations of artists to make their creations as beautiful, if not equally beautiful.

Even thought the styles changed the factory was able to acquire Savonnerie rug works, founded in

you have learned the history of the Gobelin industry, I is only natural to learn how they were made.
The weavers used two different techniques. These two techniques were high and low warp. High warp
meant that the tapestry the warp is stretched vertically in the loom; in low warp tapestry it is
horizontal(Weigert 13). The Gobelins were neat and regular. They look as if they were made by a
machine. They called the threads they used warp. Warp was wool, hemp, linen and cotton. They were
called warp, because the material was very coarse. Although the majority of the tapestry was made of
warp they used silk, gold and silver. These threads were used for the more luxurious hangings. The
raw materials were often colorless, which meant they had to be dyed. The tapestry weavers were given

The Portrayal Of Women In Western Genre
In Western genre, women are repeatedly portrayed as either the helpless damsel in distress or the wild
saloon girl. Most Western movies have elements of a gunfight, rivalry, redemption, and/or romance
written into the script. A large percentage of the stereotypes of the American West comes from these
exaggerated characters and storylines. Very rarely do western films present a strong female lead.
When they do, there is frequently a subplot of romance written into it. Few Western genre and cinema
portray the true nature of what women in the West were like. In Marcia Mullers Sweet Cactus Wine ,
the female protagonist Katy is not what most people think when they read Western genre. Portrayed as

WHITE BLOOD CELLS
White Blood Cells
Bacteria exist everywhere in the environment and have continuous access to the body through the
mouth, nose and pores of skin. Further more, many cells age and die daily and their remains must be
removed, this is where the white blood cell plays its role.
According to this quotation, without white blood cells, also known as leukocytes, we would not be
able to survive. White blood cells are our body s number one defense against infections. They help
keep us clean from foreign bacteria that enter our bodies. Statistics show that there are five to ten
thousand white blood cells per micro liter of blood, however this number will increase during an
illness. White blood cells can differ in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
These white blood cells are similar to Neutrophil because they attack bacteria by the immune system.
This particular group of white blood cells is extremely important in my body, because they are
prominent at sites of allergic reactions, such as anaphylaxis. The nucleus of Eosinphil is made of two
lobes, and implanted in the cytoplasm are large, red orange granules, and the diameter of them is on
average about twelve to fifteen µm. The third type of granular leukocytes is called, basophil. Basophil
s major function is, secretion. They tend to have a diameter of 12 15 µm. These cells make up only
about one percent of the total population of white blood cells, causing them to be much more difficult
to detect. These cells secrete both histamine and heparin. Histamine draws blood into the damaged
area, while heparin slows clotting so that more blood can enter the damaged area.
There are two different kinds of agranular white cells. One is called monocyte, and the other is called
lymphocyte. The major function of monocyte is, phagocytosis. These cells more very quickly and are
therefore able to consume bacteria and dead tissue at a fast rate. Monocytes have an average diameter
of, 12 17 µm, and they make up about 3 8 percent of our leukocyte s population. Lymphocytes, major
function are immunity. There are many different forms of lymphocytes, and all of the different forms

The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes
Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to
an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes
receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so
that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible
solutions.
In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special
treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must
meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and
CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According
to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in
academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The
problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by
teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put
on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the
NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain.
From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be

Why I Am A University Library
Until recently, I had no idea that there was a such thing as a Young Adult Librarian. I had assumed that
teaching would be the only job that would allow me to talk about books and share my love of books
with young adults; but then, one day I happened to stumble upon a blog ran by someone who was
sharing her experience as a Young Adult Librarian and I knew instantly that I had found what I wanted
to do with my life. At this point, I started looking around for ways to be involved with my university
library, just so I could have a taste of what it was like to work in a library setting. Since it is a
university library, I knew that my opportunity to deal with anything young adult would be pretty much
non existent, so I decided to just use the opportunity to learn whatever I possibly could about
librarianship. I spent the semester working with Collection Management and the Interlibrary Loan
office and I learned a little about the inner workings of those two areas, and a little about what it
meant to be a librarian. I still have my heart set on being a Young Adult Librarian in the end, and I
know without a doubt that a career as a librarian is right for me.
It is important to realize that being a young adult can be difficult, there are so many new experiences
and responsibilities that come with those years and it can be overwhelming for many. I want to
become a Young Adult Librarian so I can not only be in a position to, but also know how to best help
young adults navigate

HKU984 ALI FARHOOMAND WAL MART IN CHINA (2012) Introduction Summer was making its

investment, the Chinese government increased its numbers of experimental, special economic zoned
cities in which foreigners could operate a business. There were, however, restrictions set forward by
the government. One restriction in 1996 was that all foreign businesses would have to be in a joint
venture or other type of cooperative agreement with at least one Chinese partner, with that Chinese
partner getting a stake greater than 51%. In August 1995, Wal Mart, the great American retail chain

Just the other day a fellow colonist asked me if I thought the Stamp Act was justified. Not only do I
not find the Stamp Act justified, I find it absurd! Paying a tax on newspapers, legal documents,

Minister George Grenville was wrong about the Sugar Act and he is wrong about the Stamp Act too.
While I understand that our sweet Jesus said ...Give back to Caesar what is Caesar s and to God what

Antz Civics
The movie Antz relates to the ideas we have studied in Civics in many ways. The idea in the movie
that different ants have different thoughts on how the country should be run, the idea of what a good
ant citizen should be like and the idea that all ants have their own physical and psychological needs
and wants are all similar topics we have discussed in Civics concerning the world we live in today.
The first character I will discuss is Z. Z believed that he should get a choice in how he contributes to
colony, and a say in what goes on in the colony. Z wanted a place where he could express himself.
These ideas are what lead Z in search of place with more freedom, Insectopia. Evidently, Z believes in

They do what they are told, openly support the ways of the colony and are hesitant to disobey the
rules. An example of this is when Z was sharing his unhappiness of the way the colony is run to
Azteca. Regardless of what her friend was saying, Azteca stayed true to her colony and verbalized her
support for the government system. A colony needs loyal ants like this. Another example is when Z
asks to switch places with weaver and become a soldier for a day. Although Z is a good friend, weaver
is reluctant to say yes as this is against the rules. Members that follow these rules are vital to the
success of a colony. In these ways, Azteca and Weaver act in the interest of the colony. Characters that
acted in their own interests are Z and General Mandible. They make choices based on their own
beliefs and what makes them happy, regardless of the impacts it has on the colony. An example of this
is when Z and Princess Bala fall out of the colony and on to outside land. The princess demands that
she is escorted back as the princess is very important to a colony. Despite this and the needs of the
colony, Z marches towards Insectopia, prioritizing his desire for freedom over the survival of the
colony. Another example is when General Mandible attempted to mass murder thousands of ants
because he felt they were too weak. This kind of behavior is selfish and only supports the interests of
him gaining more power. As

Character Analysis Of Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet fall in love at a party, but they come from families which hate each other, they are
sure they will not be allowed to marry. Nevertheless helped by Friar Laurence, they marry in secret
instead. Unfortunately, before their wedding night Romeo kills Juliet s cousin in a duel, and in the
morning he is forced to leave her, If he ever returns to the city, he will be put to death. Her parents do
not know she is already married. She refuses in the beginning, but later agrees because she plans to
fake her death and escape to be with Romeo forever. He gives Juliet a sleeping potion, she appears to
be dead and was put in a tomb. However, Romeo does not know about the plan, visits her grave,
thinks she is dead, and kills himself. When Juliet finally wakes up, she discovers that Romeo is dead
and then kills herself.
Romeo is a passionate intelligent young man, liked and admired throughout Verona. He is loyal to his
friends, but his behavior is somewhat unpredictable. At the beginning of the play, he mopes over his
hopeless unrequited love for Rosaline. In Juliet, Romeo finds a legitimate object for the extraordinary
passion that he is capable of feeling, and his unyielding love for her takes control of him. Juliet, on the
other hand, is an innocent girl, a child at the beginning of the play, and is startled by the sudden power
of her love for Romeo. Guided by her feelings for him, she develops very quickly into a determined,
capable, mature, and loyal woman who

Sunset Boulevard Film Analysis
Billy Wilder s famous and well known film called Sunset Boulevard is a masterpiece for the ages.
Even though it is in black and white, don t think it isn t good. This film has so many twist and turns,
the audience doesn t know what s going to happen next (even though you know the Writer in the
movie is going to die because of the flash back). I thought the movie was interesting with the
beginning of the film when they start out with the dead man floating motionless in the pool as police
officers rush to the senses to understand what had happened to the dead movie writer. Also, later in the
film that really interested me that was never answered in the film was the funeral for the dead ape and
how it had anything to do with the plot of the movie.
Sunset Boulevard is a film about a forgotten, living in her own world of being an old silent star
crushed by new films with sound in her enormous mansion with just herself and her butler. As she just
sits inside her house watching her old films, dreaming of her comeback and how it would bring her

famous actress, it s also a story about love, and this love theme helps makes the film seem more

Analysis Of Seated Nude By Aristide Maillol
Throughout history we see many things reused or repeated. This is true in art, many artworks use
influences of previous artists and or styles for their work. The reuse of old ideas is present in many
artworks to date. One piece created in the last century is Seated Nude by Aristide Maillol which was
created in 1902. By using his experiences in France and his travels around Europe, Maillol
experienced many different cultures. With the presence of past cultural artifacts in our as influences in
Europe even today we see evidence of many past cultures. Classical Greek Art is one that is very
present even today. Seated Nude specifically shows Maillol s admiration of the Mediterranean with its
influences in Greek Classical Art. By the use of naturalistic and organic feature while highlighting
realism and humanism, Maillol shows Classical constructs through his piece.
Seated Nude is a terracotta sculpture on a black marble base. Housed at the Museum of Modern art it
stands 6 long 8 1/8 tall and 3 ½ wide. The piece features a woman seated on a ground with her right
arm extended back propping her up. Her other arm is bent and behind her head. The left leg is bent in
an inverted V with her foot on the ground. The right leg is bent lying flat on the ground and going in
between the V of her other leg. Her face, hair, hands, and feet are not heavily detailed; however her
features are clearly defined. The hair is pulled back with rounded hair in a circle around her head,

My Learning Experience With A Radical Shake Up
Significant learning begins with a radical shake up
I grew up, together with my four siblings, at a small village in the Philippines. Everyone there knew
each other. In those days, I did not really think that I learned something meaningful that would affect
my life, but now I could say that I have a different perspective on learning . I ve realized so many
things from my experiences and I have seen life in a completely different perspective.
Growing up in a developing country gave me an opportunity to value things which I gave little
importance to. When you want to achieve anywhere in the world you need to be properly educated.
Meaningful learning occurs when students are faced in a problem posing environment.
Most Filipino families often define education as an investment placed on their children for them to
continuously grow and pursue success on their line of interest by achieving higher education. My
learning experiences in the Philippines are completely different from my learning experiences here in
the United States. In the article entitled Play Deficit, the author states that Children there spend more
time at their studies than US children, and they score higher on standardized international tests (Gray
6). Indeed, most of the students in the Philippines dedicate their life to learning and gaining more
knowledge. High school students have to go to school early. Classes start as early as seven or seven

from community interventions, to effectively manage an individuals risk throughout supervision

throughout an order. This essay will highlight diversity issues raised and how future practice can be
improved from reflecting on current work. I will be referring to two case studies drawn from my own

literature and research has informed decision making in managing risk and planned interventions.
An Offender Manager s (OM) role identified by Goldhill Skinner, 2013, is to build a rapport,

reoffending, the risk of harm that they pose, and to devise a plan for supporting them out of offending.

offenders which I will be referring to pose a medium risk of reoffending. OASys was introduced in the

Raising Drinking Or The Sale Of Alcohol
Organized efforts to control and limit drinking or the sale of alcohol have been persistent in the United
States since the early nineteenth century. For many years, before any public demonstration was made
against the liquor traffic, and for some years after, distilleries by many people were deemed a blessing
to the community. They provided a ready market for any surplus grain that was raised. The business
was considered respectable; and members of churches, and even deacons engaged in it without any
detriment to their moral character or standing in society. But, after a few years of temperance work, it
dawned upon the minds of some that these distilleries were a source of evil rather than good, for they

Moreover, in many societies it is inappropriate for elderly to engage in intoxicated partying that might

Essay The Rites of Spring by Modris Eksteins
Modris Eksteins presented a tour de force interpretation of the political, social and cultural climate of
the early twentieth century. His sources were not merely the more traditional sources of the historian:
political, military and economic accounts; rather, he drew from the rich, heady brew of art, music,
dance, literature and philosophy as well. Eksteins examined ways in which life influenced, imitated,
and even became art. Eksteins argues that life and art, as well as death, became so intermeshed as to
be indistinguishable from one another. The title of the book, The Rites of Spring, and the plunge into

Germany was, relatively speaking, a new nation; new as a single nation. Russian contributions to
music and dance were new; they did not date back centuries like in England, France, Germany and
Italy. Politically, Germany found herself in a similar situation. She was new and wanted to make her
place among the great powers; she saw herself as the innovator, a progressive spirit, as opposed to
wearied France and conservative Britain. Eksteins contends that because Germans saw themselves as
the agent of (inevitable) progress, they felt their role in The Great War was defensive rather than
aggressive. To attack Germany was to attack the future. This belief that they must defend their
homeland from those who would deny the future, sustained the Germans during and after the war, and
into the next one. Eksteins realized that Hitler was not an anomaly; Hitler touched a sympathetic chord
within the Germans. Although Eksteins discussed that any group may want to find scapegoats when
things go wrong, citing the tendencies of the French to look beyond themselves for explanations of
failure, he implies that, in Germany, finding scapegoats produced such horrific results because
preexisting sentiments of anti Semitism combined with the violence and power of Nazism. His

Sport and Exercise Are Good for Your Health’
Sport and exercise are good for your health Introduction The saying sport and exercise are good for
your health appears at first to be an irrefutable fact. However in this assignment I am going to look the
information and facts that agree with this statement, and then compare and contrast with the
information that disagrees. To begin it would seem logical to define the words in the statement to gain
better understanding of their meaning. Sport has several meanings, such as one being a good sport by
showing honesty and respect even when defeated but for the purposes of this essay sport will be
defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes
against another or others (Oxford ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As with the obesity epidemic exercise has been proven to improve an individual s mental state. When
carrying out any form of strenuous exercise the pituitary gland in the brain releases chemicals called
endorphins. Exercise can lead to an improved mood, a feeling of euphoria often called the runners
high (Peak Performance, 2008). It has also been proven to increase neurogenesis, the creation of new
neurons in the hippocampus in the brain. Studies have shown that humans begin to lose nerve tissue at
approximately 30 years of age. The effect exercise has on the brain increases neural connections,
creating a denser network so we are able to process and store information. It has also been shown to
initiate brain derived neurotrophic factor or BDNF that acts as a protective response to stress and
improve synaptic plasticity which improves the efficiency of signal transmission between neurons.
This transfer is generally considered the basis for learning and memory (McGovern, 2005). Looking at
the information presented there is far more support to show exercise is more beneficial than it is
detrimental to an individual s health. The negative implications could become apparent when an
individual does not fully understand the way the body reacts or responds to exercise. The saying too
much of a good thing (Shakespeare, 1623) comes in to play when planning a programme of exercise.

The Shattering of Idealism in Nadine Gerfimer´s The Moment...
Literature changed drastically between the nineteenth century and twentieth and twenty first century.
Idealistic views that British writers once held, turned into skepticism as Great Britain enter war and
inequalities grew greater. The writers of the twentieth and twenty first centuries wrote realistically
what was happening in the world. The Moment before the Gun Went Off by Nadine Gordimer and The
Day They Burned the Books by Jean Rhys are both stories that show the shattering of Idealism in
twentieth and twenty first centuries.
Britain s colonialism caused many problems for natives and natural born British who lived in the
colonies. The illusion of patriotism shattered as conflicts of race, class, and gender equality took light.

One of the many reasons why patriotism was shattered is because coloialism was creating harsh
tensions. In The Moment before the Gun Went Off they discuss how the killing of the son is going to
turn into an ugly racial debate Bad enough to have killed a man, without helping the Party s, the
government s, the country s enemies (p.1442) The reader can conclude from this quote that because
great Britain colonized in South Africa it caused rifts between many people. People s patriotism tends
to dwell when all they see is conflict around them. The once idealistic views turn critical when war
and inequalities is all there is. The twentieth and twenty first century writers were common people
going through horrific times such as extreme racism.
In The Moment before the Gun Went Off and The Day They Burned the Books both stories leave the
reader thinking. Unlike, the 19th century; modern writers often left the end of the story open ended
because they didn t see an end to the conflict. Modern writers often wrote their own personal
experiences and feelings on a particular issue leaving much room for the reader to analyze.
The Day They Burned the Books tells a story of young boy trying to find where he fits in. His father is
from Great Britain and his mother is from the West Indies. Eddie hates England because he associates
with his father; a man who is often mean to his mother and says things Look at

Comparing The Themes Of Zaymond s Run And
The themes of ¨Raymond s Run¨ and ¨All American Slurp¨ have an impact on the characters of both of
the stories such as Squeaky and the Lin daughter. Both main characters have a desire to fit in with the
average person and enjoy being part of society. However, their behavior does not conform to the
average person instead they remain as individuals that stand out instead of being like everyone else.
By wanting one thing but living another way develops the theme of Squeaky and the Lin daughter in
the reality of life. The themes in both stories deal with family and how we may act when we are not

people in society. In ¨Raymond s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Lin, is the daughter and held to strict Chinese traditions. She has a tough time adjusting to American
culture because she just wants to fit in. Her parents will not allow her to wear blue jeans, but her
younger brother can. She is upset to wear traditional chinese clothing and see her parents allow her
younger brother the chance to get jeans and wear them is tough. The food they eat is different and this
also makes her stand out. Her parents refuse to let her become Americanized and she is angry. Even
when they are invited to a dinner party at their neighbor s house, the Gleasons, the Lin family has not
quite adapted to the american way of life. I cannot imagine moving to another country and wanting to
fit in. Learning a language would be hard enough but to have to live under strict family rules would
make it even harder. That is how the theme of All American Slurp affects the main character or the Lin
daughter. Both these stories show how hard it can be for kids to fit in. The themes of Raymond s Run
and All American Slurp affected the main characters of both stories who are Squeaky and the lin
daughter. Evidence how they were both affected by both themes is Squeaky was affected by the theme
of Raymond s Run because when she got rabid when other people made fun of Raymond people
would look at her in a different way. How the theme of All American Slurp affected the Lin daughter
is since she was chinese her family may have had a contrasting way of life such as food or

  • 2. Application Of A Chinese Culture My organization has decided to outsource customer service to the Country of China as part of the company s decision to cut back on operational costs. I have been selected to travel to China to train the new employees about operational procedures. I understand as an American my cultural values differ from that of Chinese culture, and I do not want to give a bad first impression by inadvertently offending the employees and the management of the Chinese based office. If I am going to be successful in my mission, I understand that I am going to have to study and know how to implement Chinese culture prior to my trip. There are several factors I must understand before going to China: 1. The significance of Guanxi. Guanxi actually means courting , and is a gadget of social networks and influential relationships that facilitate commercial enterprise and different dealings. When one has successfully built guanxi with some other, he can be quick to do a favor and act on another s behalf. Crucially, this is arrangement is give and take, meaning that both parties can assume such favors. This frequently misunderstood concept is vital in Chinese business tradition, and evidently it takes time for the parties construct guanxi. Now not surprisingly, the procedure for Chinese enterprise people to believe a foreigner and broaden guanxi can frequently take up to at least one 2 years. 2. The significance of Mianzi (face). • 3. Debate Over School Uniforms The Debate Over School Uniforms Context In some countries, e.g. Britain and many Caribbean states, it is common for school pupils to have to wear distinctive uniforms identifying them with a particular institution, especially to the end of compulsory education at 16. In others, e.g. France, the USA, it is rare for uniforms to be worn, although some private schools may retain them. In both situations the desirability of school uniforms remains controversial among students, parents and educationalists. As a result of this some schools have abandoned uniform at the same time as others have adopted it. pros Uniform helps to create a strong sense school ethos and a sense of belonging ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Pupils without expensive designer clothes and trainers may be singled out as social outcasts, or stigmatised as being from poor backgrounds. For these reasons many parents prefer uniforms as they save them money on buying clothes for school wear cons Students always find ways to tease or bully others, regardless of what clothes are worn. Those who wish to be particularly fashionable will want to own the same number of outfits regardless of whether they are allowed to wear them to school or not, changing into them the minute that classes are over. Parents often find some uniform items, e.g. jackets, very expensive compared to the rest of their child s wardrobe, and complain they can never be worn outside the school environment. pros Uniform has practical benefits when students are outside the school building. Being readily identified with a particular institution may make students more aware of their behaviour while travelling to and from the school, leading them to act more considerately, e.g. to other passengers on buses or trains. On organised trips away from the school it is much easier for teachers to ensure they haven t lost anyone and to monitor behaviour, than if students wore their own clothes and blended in with the crowds. cons Uniform makes students very identifiable and emphasises the divisions between ... • 4. Essay On Native American Tribal Music Music is one of the most influential parts of cultures all over the world, but to the Native Americans it is pivotal. Native American tribal music is a very important part of most Native Americans history, culture, and societies. Music is an extremely important role of Native American culture and history. Generally, it was one of the only methods that they had as a way to pass down traditions and their history from generation to generation. There wasn t very much documentation of their history until validation from English settlers, other than some archeological evidence of musical instruments and depictions of music that have been dated as far back as the 7th Century. There were typically two types of songs that the tribes would pass down, and they would be either public songs or private songs. Public songs were often historical, and could be retold into many different versions which often gave the songs different meanings. But the private songs were unchanged through the history and kept those tribes history/culture intact forever. There were primarily six different areas of music in the United States where different tribes resided. The main characteristics of all of these diverse areas were that they were based on singing and percussion. The vocalization of these tribes range from solos, chorales, unison, and multipart singing. As a work of philosophy, Republic attempts to answer this question by posing thought provoking conversations between Socrates and the characters he meets in his travels. These characters serve as foils and counterpoints to Socrates and his own interpretation of justice. Perhaps the most interesting counterpoint to Socrates comes in the conversation with Thrasymachus, a skeptical Sophist who rejects a simple vision of what is just. • 15. Comparing Reality And Identity In The Matrix And The Matrix Throughout the history of humanity, human have shaped and formed different realities and identities. Each reality and identity possess its unique purpose which has contributes to develop human history around the world. The Greek philosopher, Plato, discusses that some identities are eternal forms . However, the film, The Matrix , suggests that some realities are not eternal forms . If realities are temporal, identities could also be temporal forms. According to The Matrix, the relationship between human and machines shows that the reality could be a temporal form. Since the reality is temporary, the human mainly serves as a power source for the machines when their bodies are connected with wires and their bodies become codes in part of the matrix. If the human bodies are disconnected with the wires and machines, their minds are pulled back to the reality in the present, and their identities form new identities which are different from the matrix. Perhaps, their true identities finally return to the bodies. In the matrix, human are under the slavery system created by the machines, and their identities are trapped into false realities created by the matrix. If human bodies and minds are disconnect, they could have a completely new reality with different identities beside the ones they have in the matrix. Therefore, identities are just temporary and can be changed when human minds and bodies recognize that they are in different realities created by numerous. However, Karl Marx, a German author, states that [t]he history of all hitherto existing society is the history of class struggles (Marx, 62). He identifies history as class struggles which categorize the people from different classes in eternal forms as Plato thinks about identities. In Marx s The Communist manifesto, he introduces two classes, which are Proletariat and Bourgeois. The Proletariat works for Bourgeois, but the Bourgeois owns the majority of the capital. In Bourgeois society, there is a gap between rich and poor, and being poor becomes a consent struggle for the Proletariat. • 18. The Natural And Physical Inequality Unavoidably, every person enters the world with a unique set of talents, dispositions and attributes which lead him or her to perform better or worse than another person in certain realms. Rousseau calls this natural or physical inequality: one may be stronger, quicker or smarter than another, and as such able to complete more tasks than another. Rousseau argues that none of this matters in the state of nature because, similar to animals, mankind concerns itself with self preservation. Family bonds, or any other sort of organization of a group of people, do not exist in this state. The complete self sufficiency of each person means nobody needs to exercise control or domination of any sort over any other person to survive or enjoy a more luxurious lifestyle. I see him satisfying his hunger under an oak tree, quenching his thirst at the first stream, finding his bed at the foot of the same tree that supplied his meal; and thus all his needs are satisfied (Rousseau 47). Perhaps one more adept at finding food, whether by speed or size, will more easily satisfy his hunger and have more time to rest at the foot of the tree or to enjoy relations with those passing by. While this does provide an advantage, every person effectively lives the same sort of life, free of dominion of any sort. Similarly, Smith writes that talents of men differ on the basis of the realm they most naturally aspire to. While one man may inevitably be stronger than a second, the same second may ... • 27. The Pros And Cons Of Student Athletes Dean Clark Carter, I am a junior student here at Charleston Southern University. I write in regards to an issue I have noticed on campus and would like to bring to your attention; should student athletes receive special academic treatment? I believe that CSU should hold a student forum about this issue so that all students gain knowledge about the topic, can share and debate opinions, and create possible solutions. In my past two years at CSU, I have heard student athletes argue both for and against receiving special treatment. As Lombardi et al. mentions, the NCAA places academic criteria that student athletes must meet in order to stay on their team, play games, and receive scholarships. Rules from the NCAA and CSU are in place to keep athletes held accountable to academic standards in order to play. According to the Charleston Southern University Student Handbook, if an athlete is found to have participated in academic dishonesty, on the first offence he or she must sit out of 20% of games played (10). The problem arises when alleged stories are spread around campus that athletes are handed good grades by teachers in order to stay on their team. On the opposing side, if grades start to slip, athletes will be put on academic probation and are not allowed to play until grades improve. This is an example that the NCAA rules do apply and athletes do get punished for not holding up their end of the bargain. From an outside perspective, non athletic students on campus can be ... • 28. Why I Am A University Library Until recently, I had no idea that there was a such thing as a Young Adult Librarian. I had assumed that teaching would be the only job that would allow me to talk about books and share my love of books with young adults; but then, one day I happened to stumble upon a blog ran by someone who was sharing her experience as a Young Adult Librarian and I knew instantly that I had found what I wanted to do with my life. At this point, I started looking around for ways to be involved with my university library, just so I could have a taste of what it was like to work in a library setting. Since it is a university library, I knew that my opportunity to deal with anything young adult would be pretty much non existent, so I decided to just use the opportunity to learn whatever I possibly could about librarianship. I spent the semester working with Collection Management and the Interlibrary Loan office and I learned a little about the inner workings of those two areas, and a little about what it meant to be a librarian. I still have my heart set on being a Young Adult Librarian in the end, and I know without a doubt that a career as a librarian is right for me. It is important to realize that being a young adult can be difficult, there are so many new experiences and responsibilities that come with those years and it can be overwhelming for many. To further increase and attract foreign investment, the Chinese government increased its numbers of experimental, special economic zoned cities in which foreigners could operate a business. There were, however, restrictions set forward by the government. One restriction in 1996 was that all foreign businesses would have to be in a joint venture or other type of cooperative agreement with at least one Chinese partner, with that Chinese partner getting a stake greater than 51%. In August 1995, Wal Mart, the great American retail chain and Middle America success story, arrived in China, establishing a joint venture with Shenzhen International Fiduciary Investment Co, Ltd, China. In the following year, 1996, Wal Mart opened its first supercentre and a Sam s Club, its members only big box store, in the special economic zone of Shenzhen, in the southernmost Guangdong Province. The first character I will discuss is Z. Z believed that he should get a choice in how he contributes to colony, and a say in what goes on in the colony. This belief that they must defend their homeland from those who would deny the future, sustained the Germans during and after the war, and into the next one. When carrying out any form of strenuous exercise the pituitary gland in the brain releases chemicals called endorphins. It has also been proven to increase neurogenesis, the creation of new neurons in the hippocampus in the brain. Studies have shown that humans begin to lose nerve tissue at approximately 30 years of age. The effect exercise has on the brain increases neural connections, creating a denser network so we are able to process and store information. Both main characters have a desire to fit in with the average person and enjoy being part of society. However, their behavior does not conform to the average person instead they remain as individuals that stand out instead of being like everyone else. By wanting one thing but living another way develops the theme of Squeaky and the Lin daughter in the reality of life. I cannot imagine moving to another country and wanting to fit in. Learning a language would be hard enough but to have to live under strict family rules would make it even harder. That is how the theme of All American Slurp affects the main character or the Lin daughter. Both these stories show how hard it can be for kids to fit in. The themes of Raymond s Run and All American Slurp affected the main characters of both stories who are Squeaky and the lin daughter.
