Uniformed public service national diploma Understanding discipline By Lucy Jones Contents Page 3:
Role of discipline, rules and regulations and following orders Page 4 5: maintaining order, good and
bad effects if discipline Page 5 6: self discipline Role of discipline in the uniformed public services P1
Role of discipline One definition of discipline is obedience to authority. However discipline can be
used in many different ways. For example it may be used as an order, as a deterrent, as a threat, to

This is usually done during the induction/training program of joining the army. During this period the
instructors beast the initiates and build them up as a team so they can co operate efficiently in the line
of duty. Also with them being built up as a team and working everyday side by side there is less
chance of them fighting amongst each other so order will be maintained. Social norms The
psychologists Deutsch and Gerard said when it comes to social norms there are two theories. The first
theory is that if you have a lack of information about something we usually do what the majority of
the class/group are doing for example if you are waiting to cross the road and you don t see the traffic
signals changing because someone is in your way but you start to cross because everyone else is
crossing even though you don t know it is safe to cross. The second theory is that we conform to a
group of people so we feel accepted by acting how they act or the way they dress. For example if I left
the uniformed public service course and joined a art course in the college that they were all wearing a
particular type of clothing eventually I would conform to the way they dress so I feel a part of the
group the same in the public service you will conform to them so you fell accepted in the team.

Essay On Earthquake In Haiti
The Next Blow Throughout the past few years, Haiti has suffered blow after blow. Recently, Haiti
took one more devastation, Hurricane Matthew. It struck the country on October 4th 2016 and passed
on the 5th. The category 4 storm laid waste. Hurricane Matthew caused destruction in Haiti, including
physical damage, health dangers, government problems and death. Haiti suffered great destruction
from Matthew. Southern Haiti was damaged specifically. The city Jérémie, as southern city, had 80%
of its buildings destroyed, and the city was reduced to sticks, bricks, and mud (Haiti s New
Catastrophe 2). There was barely anything there besides ruble. According to New York Times writer
Nick Miroff, in smaller towns, up to ninety percent of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The hurricane hit with a bomb blast on crop fields and killed livestock and fruit trees. Fields were
drowned as they were feet below the risen water level. One Haitian stated that most of the crops were
gone, (Ahmed 7). How is Haiti, a third world country, to survive without their agriculture? Even the
lands suffered physical damage.
After the Hurricane struck, Haiti s health issues spiked. Cholera has been a reoccurring epidemic in
the country. Cholera came in again carried by the flooding. Since late 2010, an estimated 10,000
deaths have been attributed by the disease, and hundreds of thousands have been sickened (Ahmed 10,
9). The clinic for cholera as a result of the earthquake was destroyed, thus a make shift clinic has
opened up in the southern city Rendel to try and cure as many as possible. Cholera is ravaging Haiti
once more. In Haiti, not even their drinking water is safe to drink. Their water is infected with bacteria
and disease. Some of these diseases include hepatitis a and b, cholera, and others. When the flooding
came in, the diseases and feces picked up off the land infected the drinking water, making it virtually
impossible to drink safely (Ahmed a13). Water is essential to life, and Haitians don t have clean

Essay Psuedopsychology vs the Scientific Method
Humans have inhabited the Earth for thousands of years and it is perceived by many that we are
among the most intellectual species on this planet. Although having lived on this planet for so long,
being able to distinguish fact from fiction has escaped the minds of many. People of today s society
are easily influenced by what is told to them instead of what can be proven. Believing in something
that has no scientific evidence is not only absurd but can be classified simply as ignorance. Many of
the erratic ideas that are believed by many today have originated in a time where superstition was
more popular than science. These beliefs appear to be proven by science, but in reality are not valid
and frequently confused with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
All procedure varies from field to field but the steps must be repeatable to predict future results and
this is where psudopsychology and fact clash. Replicating the methods is tricky for those who are
practicing these psychologies because they have to do it a certain way in order for the beliefs of
everyone to remain the same. Horoscopes and Astrology: A man who made the practice of horoscopes
and astrology susceptible to Christians allowed for these beliefs to spread throughout the world in the
1600 s was William Lilly. During his time he was seen as a great prophet, and became famous for
predicting The Great Fire of London through one of his hieroglyphic drawings (McCann, 1990). The
Great Fire of London happened on September 2, 1666 and it started out as a small fire in the bakeshop
of Thomas Forger destroying about 430 acres of land including 13,000 house, 89 churches and many
other buildings leaving countless homeless. This fire occurred 14 years after William Lilly predicted
one, and at this time London has been prone to having fires due to its infrastructure. Most of the
houses and other buildings were made of wood and highly flammable, causing something that started
as a house fire to a fire that engulfed a great majority of London. This hasn t been the only great fire
that this city has witnessed. Along with the fire of 1633 and 1676, the fire of 1666 has increased its
caliber of destruction primarily because of the city s construction

Postition Paper, Model Un, Ecosoc from the View of Turkey
The Economic and Social committee from the view of the Republic of Turkey. This committee has
been given two topics to discuss in this session. These would be Recovering from the World Financial
and Economic Crisis: a Global Jobs Pact as well as Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective into all
Policies and Programmes in the United Nations System. With the issues we are faced with in this
committee session, we feel that the topic on the Global Jobs Pact should take precedence over
mainstreaming gender perspectives. After the worldwide recession that started in 2007, there were
many impacts that hit us more so than gender perspectives. For this reason, we feel that the issue of

Unemployment is a major part of that. The Global Jobs Pact would help to solve this issue. We would
like to be back to ranking higher in the GDP.
Topic 2: Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective into all Policies and Programmes in the United Nations
System In 1997, the United Nations Economic and Social council brought to light the issue of gender
perspectives in policies and programmes. The idea behind this would be to take into account how
legislation and programmes will impact women in the states mentioned. Member states unanimously
agreed in Beijing 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women that, It was essential to design,
implement and monitor, with the full participation of women, effective, efficient and mutually
reinforcing gender sensitive policies and programmes, including development policies and
programmes at all levels. This does not, however, mean that all member states agreed that the
advancement and empowerment of women is an issue of importance.
For us, the Republic of Turkey, we have a view of women that does not necessarily share the
increasingly popular idea of women s rights. Because we are a Muslim country, women s rights are
not of the utmost importance to us. When comparing us to many of the other United Nations member
states, it may seem as if we have no women s rights to really speak of. This is not exactly correct.

Dunkirk Movie Essay
Dunkirk is the 10th film created by Christopher Nolan. From all film that was made by Christopher
Nolan, this film Dunkirk was the shortest movie that only last long for a hundred and seven minutes.
If we compared to the other film created by him it can reach two and a half hour, Dunkirk was the
shortest one.
This movie has a different theme among other action war movies. f war films, especially war films
focusing on world war two, have the theme of a feud between one faction and another, Dunkirk s film
focuses more on how to survive under siege and how to escape from life threatening terror only.
The atmosphere of war played by Dunkirk is quite realistic although there is not a single spark of

The audience will not know who the enemy generals are leading the siege or even the face of the
enemy soldiers, but the audience can sense that the invisible enemy is even more terrible than the
enemy whose presence can be seen.
Soundtrack created by the German composer Hans Zimmer also makes the hair goose nervous
goosebumps. By using a fast paced soundtrack, the horror of the war becomes more awful and the
tension to survive becomes more gripping. The created soundtrack was installed in almost all scenes,
even in scenes that were supposed to look safe giving the feeling that the enemy was ready to attack at
any time.
The connection between the main roles in the film is intentionally built not too deeply between one
another. This also gives the impression that the atmosphere of war that happened so tense so that there
is no time to build a meaningful bond of friendship. Although the idea of the director in shaping the
chemistry of the main cast is quite unique, the depth of the character is not felt so the audience does
not have more sympathy for the main

The Boy In The Striped Pajamas Living Conditions
In The Boy in Striped Pajamas by John Boyne, the conditions and characteristics of life in Auschwitz
are atrocious and perilous to the Jews. The quality of life that is present in the surroundings is
appalling and unlivable that it resembles a prison. Bruno, the main protagonist, despises living outside
of the camp, which he describes the camp to be made up of nothing but a tall fence and the wooden
telegraph poles and the barbed wire bales (p.94). The lack of certain basic necessities and the prison
like environment reflects not only the physical conditions but also in the physical appearances of the
people who live there, especially the Jewish population. As a matter of fact, Shmuel, a Jewish detainee

Violence In Media And Media Violence
With technology becoming more advanced every year the public is becoming increasingly concerned
with the link between the violence in media and actual violence between humans. However, this topic
has not only gained interest by the public but researchers are intrigued by the connection as well. One
of the subdivisions associated with media is, gaming culture. Yet, its association with developing
violence among the youth and young adults has not been touched upon by many researchers.
Although, the few who have looked into the violence within the realm of gaming have found many
connections involving variables such as age, race, ethnicity, gender, personality, and acts of violence.
In the study, Exposure to Media Violence and Other Correlates of Aggressive Behavior in Preschool
Children; researchers, Perez and Daly, looked into whether violence in media such as television and
video games affected how children behaved or how they got along with others during play time. In
order to conduct this research they selected seven preschools. After the parents who wished to have
their child participate gave consent there was officially a sample size of 70 children (32 female, 38
male). Then to create a control the researchers survey and rated the classroom environment, the
teachers, the parents, and the children s ability to be self regulatory. As a result, researchers found that
children who were highly self regulatory were more physically violent and those who had low self

Psychology In A Nutshell
Psychology in a Nutshell

Is Homicide Ever Justified Essay
Is homicide ever justified? Ordinarily no, but in certain circumstances committing a homicide can be
excused due to insanity or be justified because the situation called for self defense or the defense of
others. As with many aspects of the law, there can be ambiguity present about whether or not a crime
meets the criteria of an excuse or justification, as we have seen in the State v. Norman 378 S.E.2d 8
(1989) case. At issue in the case is whether the danger that the defendant, Judy Ann Laws Norman, felt
was imminent in order to justify the homicide she committed when she shot her husband. I believe
Norman s actions were justified when she shot her husband given the extensive instances of domestic
abuse that her husband inflicted on her over the course of the last ... Show more content on

Does the store clerk go to prison for manslaughter? Let s break this situation down into its smaller
parts to better understand why this hypothetical situation is clear cut self defense. The threat was
imminent and present as soon as the perpetrator threatened the clerk and the threat continued to exist
throughout the entire situation until the perpetrator was killed. The perception of the threat was
reasonable since any reasonable person would feel in danger if someone brandished a gun at them.
Finally, the store clerk was entitled to use deadly force to defend himself since the perpetrator was
using deadly force as leverage in the situation. In conclusion, the situation contains all of the elements
of self defense and the store clerk cannot face legal repercussions for the death of the perpetrator. In
my analysis of the homicide that took place in the State v. Norman 378 S.E.2d 8 (1989) case, I find
that the situation that occurred is analogous to the store clerk versus the

main characters. All of Edgar Linton s attributes serve to contrast and emphasize the distinctive
savagery that Heathcliff seems to possess. The contrasting characteristics and behaviors of Edgar
Linton and Heathcliff serve as a cautionary tale to the potential destructive effects love can have. In
the beginning of the novel, the audience is first introduced to the stark contrast between Heathcliff and
Edgar through the description of their appearances, which creates a comparison between the light and
dark attributes of their character. While Edgar is fair skinned with light hair and blue eyes, Heathcliff

How Exercise Affects How The Heart Beats
Four interval times (PR, RT, TP and RR) measured in seconds were recorded both with the subject at
rest and after the subject had exercised. The PR and RT intervals remained virtually unchanged with
the PR intervals remaining the same both before and after exercise with an interval time of 0.15
seconds, and the RT interval increase by 0.01 seconds from 0.37 at rest to 0.38 seconds after exercise.
More substantial changes were noted in TP and RR intervals. The TP interval decreasing from 0.32
seconds at rest to just 0.08 seconds after exercise, a decrease of 0.24 seconds (just 25% of the resting
0.32 seconds). The RR interval decreased from 0.84 seconds at rest to 0.61 seconds seconds after

I did run into problems as well due the instruction in the you will now measure four time intervals
from the ecg recording. I was confused about how to perform the procedure so I thought I needed to
hit the start button four times which just resulted in a very strange ECG. I later realized however in
order to record the results I had to let it run for a few seconds and then measure the ECG with the
black lines and then press the journal icon to record these results.
1. Are any of the time intervals approximately constant?
There were two intervals remained constant between at rest and after exercise, the PR interval and the
RT interval (there was a clinically insignificant 0.01 second increase in the RT interval after exercise,
however I suspect this was likely due to measurement error error rather than an actual increase).
2. With the exception of the R R interval, which time interval shows the greatest difference between
resting and post exercise? Explain this observation.
Two intervals did show a significant shorting post exercise. Besides the RR interval, the other
recorded interval which contained a marked shortening after exercise was the TP interval. To
understand why the TP interval is shortened when the heart rate increases and lengthened when the
heart rate slows, one must first understand what the TP interval is. The TP interval, which is the the

There often limited opportunities for intervention before the fact (Markowitz, 2011). Because of this
some offenders tend towards homelessness and crimes of survival such as shoplifting and trespassing,
some committing these non violent crimes as a way of seeking intervention they would not otherwise
have access to (Hinday, 1997). Symptoms of mental illness include; impulsivity and impaired
judgment and can cause already hotheaded youths to act in antisocial ways (Hinday, 1997). A form of
intervention that continually arises in research looking at young offenders is the use of cognitive
behavioural therapy or modification. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is founded on social learning, and
adopts the theory that offenders have learned unsuitable ways of behaving due to their environment
(McGuire, 2003). Many intervention plans include this type of treatment, sometimes coupled with
psychiatric treatments (Jones, Chancey, Lowe amp; Risler, 2010). Cognitive behavioural techniques
encourage offenders to think through a situation, instead of ensuing their immediate response. A
reaction that can often be impetuous and self centered attitudes that increase the likelihood of anti
social behavior (McGuire, 2003). In cognitive behavioural therapy an offenders learning is
conditioned, they are trained to eradicate maladaptive actions (McGuire, 2003). Cognitive,
rehabilitation or intervention programs aim to bring changes

Abstract
This paper will examine five emerging trends associated with the future of higher education. Within
the United States higher education has become commercialized. Obtaining a college degree has been
marketed as a necessity for anyone seeking a successful future. The increased demand results in
increased costs, both for the institution and the student. University administrators recognize the
increased demand for a college education and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The third category includes private for profit institutions that offer predominately on line course
instruction. No matter what category the institution falls under, various trends are impacting higher
education and threaten to redefine the traditional mission. What follows is a discussion of five such
trends and an examination of the potential impact upon students, faculty, staff, parents and the
institutions.
The Cost of Higher Education The cost of higher education is on the rise. Within the United States,
nearly every state has reduced funding to higher education. As a result, institutions are challenged with
replacing the lost revenue and in most cases this is accomplished by increasing tuition. In addition the
cost of benefits for faculty and staff is increasing. Dew (2012) found that as health care costs increase
and both private and state sponsored pension funds decrease, institutions are increasingly dipping into
their own revenues to support benefit packages. In another effort to reduce costs, universities continue
to reduce the number of full time faculty and replace them with adjunct faculty and graduate assistants
both of which are exempt from benefits. As tenured faculty members retire, universities elect to fill the
position with part time faculty in lieu of high salaried tenured professors. Increased costs have a
cascading effect on other initiatives as well. State budget cuts threaten research universities by
reducing the funds

A Short Note On Energy Drink And India Essay
V energy drink was first launched in New Zealand in August 1977, it was first expected that the
product would produce and sell domestically (within NZ). It was such a massive hit in NZ, it soon
took over 60% of the overall drinks market in NZ in 2003 and over 53% in Australia, making it the
most popular drink in both countries. V energy drink is currently being sold in 18 different countries
including Spain, Australia, Argentina, and the UK. India is not currently selling V Energy drink. We
have chosen to send this product to India because it has grown very popular in a short time, within NZ
and Australia, and it has all the ingredients that would suit the Indian taste. The energy drinks market
in India is at a nascent stage and it has huge potential for growth. There is more than one reason why I
am taking this product to India and I will explain below.  cultural / social environment: Increased
urbanisation, rising disposable income and growing health consciousness among the Indian youth has
increased the demand for non carbonated drinks called energy drinks. At the same time long and
erratic working hours and the increasing occurrence of social gatherings are driving Indian consumers
towards consumption of energy drinks which are primarily classified as non alcoholic, caffeinated
beverages and sports drinks. India is one of the fastest developing consumer markets, especially for a
product targeted towards the young and as well as young adults, mostly belonging to upper

Alzheimer s Disease And Its Effects Essay
Dementia is a general term that is used to describe a disease or disorder that affects brain functioning
by a decline in metal ability that can progress enough to interfere with daily life. There are different
forms of dementia, such as Huntington s, Parkinson s, Vascular, and Frontotemporal, but the number
one type of dementia is Alzheimer s disease. According to the Alzheimer s Association, one in nine
Americans older than the age of 65 currently have been diagnosed with Alzheimer s disease.
Alzheimer s disease is an irreversible neurodegenerative brain disorder that slowly destroys memory
and thinking skills. Alzheimer s disease was first discovered by a German physician named Alois
Alzheimer in 1906. It all started in 1887, when Alois Alzheimer graduated from Wurzburg with a
degree in medicine. A year after graduation, Alzheimer spend months helping mentally ill women in a
mental asylum known as Frankfurt Asylum and began his research on the pathological anatomy of the
cerebral cortex. In 1901, Dr. Alzheimer started to closely observe one of the patients named Auguste
Deter. She was a 51 year old women who showed strange behavioral symptoms along with short term
memory loss. Auguste s husband wanted to move her to another mental institution because he couldn t
afford Frankfurt Asylum anymore. Alois Alzheimer would help her stay in the Frankfurt as a trade to
receive her medical records and brain once she dies. Auguste Deter died on April 8, 1906 at the age of
55.

Systolic Pressure

range of levels from optimal to poor in relation to blood pressure. I will take my blood pressure as

blood vessels. Determined by the flow blood and resistance to that flow. It is expressed by systolic
pressure over diastolic pressure. Blood pressure varies depending on age, sex, and ethnicity. Systolic

Dogma Rules Add “Character” to Italian for Beginners
Dogma Rules Add Character to Italian for Beginners Art films are different from mainstream films in
many aspects including acting, plot, and setting. Art filmmakers use different techniques to distinguish
their films from mainstream films. The movement away from mainstream filmmaking occurred
through the creation of the Dogma Manifesto. Dogma 95 was a set of rules for film production that
forced filmmakers to innovate through new methods of filmmaking. One such film created according
to the rules of Dogma 95 is Italian for Beginners. Although Italian for Beginners does not follow all of
the aesthetic rules of Dogma film production, the characters and their stories allow the viewer to

He conveys these through simple responses, for example, when he shies away from women and the
way he carries himself. These little reactions give us a deeper look into the feelings of the character.
This looseness is part of Dogma films and the new attitude toward filming... they shoot not only many
takes of the same scene but also improvised and alternative takes (Schepelern 87). Therefore, the actor
cannot base his or her character on the events that will occur. The actor must establish a character and
try to evoke emotions. This results in characters that are not typical and predictable. As a Dogma film,
Italian for Beginners, was distinct from acting in other films and the predictability of characters in
those films. This film was original because the actors were allowed to innovate. The Dogma
movement gave actors the freedom and environment they needed to evoke a response from the
audience. Mainstream films are also starting to focus more on characters and narrative than in the past
(Schepelern 98). Perhaps, in the future other aspects of Dogma 95 will be used more widely. If wide
use of Dogma techniques occurs, film producers will look for other ways to adapt filmmaking.
Filmmaking has gone through many changes over the years, such as the New Wave movements,

Mini-Class Report
This mini class is going to expand a little on what you learned about floats in the RPGDU class and
will be introducing more CSS transitions for you to use in your coding. In the last few classes you
have been learning about absolute and relative positioning and while this is very useful, it means that
elements basically ignore one another within their own structure. To have elements that are aware of
each other, you need to learn to float them. Floating was covered on page 6 of the main class notes and
while the concept is simple, learning to use it to your advantage is less so. While theory is good,
learning how the interactions function on a practical basis is better so the project for this mini class
will give you an opportunity to practice. This class is also going to expand briefly on other pseudo
classes and elements and introduce the other things you can do to elements including filter, transform
and translate them. We are also going to touch on browser compatibility. ... Show more content on

Dexmedetomidine In Psychology
Evidences from animal models
It has been reported that dexmedetomidine has neuroprotective effects in animals with various insults
to the brain. Dexmedetomidine attenuates central sympathetic activity and decreases anesthetic
requirements. Hoffman et al. determined the effects of dexmedetomidine on neurological and
histopathological outcome after incomplete cerebral ischemia in rats about 25 years ago [1]. The
results show that dexmedetomidine given during brain ischemia improved neurological and
histopathological outcome after incomplete ischemia in rats anesthetized with fentanyl and nitrous
oxide. This effect was reversed by atipamezole, indicating that the effect is mediated by α2 adrenergic
receptors. Improvement with dexmedetomidine was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

arteries. Animals received dexmedetomidine immediately or 2 h after SAH. They were evaluated 2
days after SAH. SAH worsened neurological functions, induced brain edema and increased blood
brain barrier permeability. These detrimental effects were reduced by dexmedetomidine post
treatment. However, the neuroprotective effects of dexmedetomidine was abolished by inhibition of
extracellular signal regulated kinase (ERK) activation. The conclusion in this study is that
dexmedetomidine post treatment induces neuroprotection to reduce SAH induced brain injury. This
effect may be mediated by activating

The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen
Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the
readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or believe that the scripture shows the issues and
lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in this
story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what they think
is right and what they are bound to do, even as the smaller character of Regine slightly deals with the
same issue.
Duty comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound to in
their life relays to the role they act in society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we are told of
her husband s horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is duty bound to protect her
husband s reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice everything for her son. In return,
the son must love his mother. In a way, we question the duty of the mother and ask whether or not it
was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband s actions from her son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen s opinion
of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice,
the reader on their own must make a choice in the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty
and protect her son during his young years was a courageous execution for the paths she found
available. As said by George Bernard Shaw in

Uniformed public service national diploma Understanding discipline By Lucy Jones Contents Page 3: Role of discipline, rules and regulations and following orders Page 4 5: maintaining order, good and bad effects if discipline Page 5 6: self discipline Role of discipline in the uniformed public services P1 Role of discipline One definition of discipline is obedience to authority. This is usually done during the induction/training program of joining the army. During this period the instructors beast the initiates and build them up as a team so they can co operate efficiently in the line of duty. Also with them being built up as a team and working everyday side by side there is less chance of them fighting amongst each other so order will be maintained. Social norms The psychologists Deutsch and Gerard said when it comes to social norms there are two theories. The first theory is that if you have a lack of information about something we usually do what the majority of the class/group are doing for example if you are waiting to cross the road and you don t see the traffic signals changing because someone is in your way but you start to cross because everyone else is crossing even though you don t know it is safe to cross. The second theory is that we conform to a group of people so we feel accepted by acting how they act or the way they dress. For example if I left the uniformed public service course and joined a art course in the college that they were all wearing a particular type of clothing eventually I would conform to the way they dress so I feel a part of the group the same in the public service you will conform to them so you fell accepted in the team. • 3. Essay On Earthquake In Haiti The Next Blow Throughout the past few years, Haiti has suffered blow after blow. Recently, Haiti took one more devastation, Hurricane Matthew. It struck the country on October 4th 2016 and passed on the 5th. The category 4 storm laid waste. Hurricane Matthew caused destruction in Haiti, including physical damage, health dangers, government problems and death. Haiti suffered great destruction from Matthew. Southern Haiti was damaged specifically. The city Jérémie, as southern city, had 80% of its buildings destroyed, and the city was reduced to sticks, bricks, and mud (Haiti s New Catastrophe 2). The hurricane hit with a bomb blast on crop fields and killed livestock and fruit trees. Fields were drowned as they were feet below the risen water level. One Haitian stated that most of the crops were gone, (Ahmed 7). How is Haiti, a third world country, to survive without their agriculture? Even the lands suffered physical damage. After the Hurricane struck, Haiti s health issues spiked. Cholera has been a reoccurring epidemic in the country. Cholera came in again carried by the flooding. Since late 2010, an estimated 10,000 deaths have been attributed by the disease, and hundreds of thousands have been sickened (Ahmed 10, 9). The clinic for cholera as a result of the earthquake was destroyed, thus a make shift clinic has opened up in the southern city Rendel to try and cure as many as possible. Cholera is ravaging Haiti once more. In Haiti, not even their drinking water is safe to drink. Their water is infected with bacteria and disease. Some of these diseases include hepatitis a and b, cholera, and others. When the flooding came in, the diseases and feces picked up off the land infected the drinking water, making it virtually impossible to drink safely (Ahmed a13). • 4. Essay Psuedopsychology vs the Scientific Method Humans have inhabited the Earth for thousands of years and it is perceived by many that we are among the most intellectual species on this planet. Although having lived on this planet for so long, being able to distinguish fact from fiction has escaped the minds of many. People of today s society are easily influenced by what is told to them instead of what can be proven. Believing in something that has no scientific evidence is not only absurd but can be classified simply as ignorance. Many of the erratic ideas that are believed by many today have originated in a time where superstition was more popular than science. These beliefs appear to be proven by science, but in reality are not valid and frequently confused with ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... All procedure varies from field to field but the steps must be repeatable to predict future results and this is where psudopsychology and fact clash. Replicating the methods is tricky for those who are practicing these psychologies because they have to do it a certain way in order for the beliefs of everyone to remain the same. Horoscopes and Astrology: A man who made the practice of horoscopes and astrology susceptible to Christians allowed for these beliefs to spread throughout the world in the 1600 s was William Lilly. During his time he was seen as a great prophet, and became famous for predicting The Great Fire of London through one of his hieroglyphic drawings (McCann, 1990). The Great Fire of London happened on September 2, 1666 and it started out as a small fire in the bakeshop of Thomas Forger destroying about 430 acres of land including 13,000 house, 89 churches and many other buildings leaving countless homeless. This fire occurred 14 years after William Lilly predicted one, and at this time London has been prone to having fires due to its infrastructure. Most of the houses and other buildings were made of wood and highly flammable, causing something that started as a house fire to a fire that engulfed a great majority of London. This hasn t been the only great fire that this city has witnessed. Along with the fire of 1633 and 1676, the fire of 1666 has increased its caliber of destruction primarily because of the city s construction ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Topic 2: Mainstreaming a Gender Perspective into all Policies and Programmes in the United Nations System In 1997, the United Nations Economic and Social council brought to light the issue of gender perspectives in policies and programmes. The idea behind this would be to take into account how legislation and programmes will impact women in the states mentioned. Member states unanimously agreed in Beijing 1995 Fourth World Conference on Women that, It was essential to design, implement and monitor, with the full participation of women, effective, efficient and mutually reinforcing gender sensitive policies and programmes, including development policies and programmes at all levels. This does not, however, mean that all member states agreed that the advancement and empowerment of women is an issue of importance. For us, the Republic of Turkey, we have a view of women that does not necessarily share the increasingly popular idea of women s rights. Because we are a Muslim country, women s rights are not of the utmost importance to us. When comparing us to many of the other United Nations member states, it may seem as if we have no women s rights to really speak of. This is not exactly correct. More so it is more ... By using a fast paced soundtrack, the horror of the war becomes more awful and the tension to survive becomes more gripping. The created soundtrack was installed in almost all scenes, even in scenes that were supposed to look safe giving the feeling that the enemy was ready to attack at any time. Violence In Media And Media Violence With technology becoming more advanced every year the public is becoming increasingly concerned with the link between the violence in media and actual violence between humans. However, this topic has not only gained interest by the public but researchers are intrigued by the connection as well. One of the subdivisions associated with media is, gaming culture. Yet, its association with developing violence among the youth and young adults has not been touched upon by many researchers. Although, the few who have looked into the violence within the realm of gaming have found many connections involving variables such as age, race, ethnicity, gender, personality, and acts of violence. In the study, Exposure to Media Violence and Other Correlates of Aggressive Behavior in Preschool Children; researchers, Perez and Daly, looked into whether violence in media such as television and video games affected how children behaved or how they got along with others during play time. In order to conduct this research they selected seven preschools. Ordinarily no, but in certain circumstances committing a homicide can be excused due to insanity or be justified because the situation called for self defense or the defense of others. As with many aspects of the law, there can be ambiguity present about whether or not a crime meets the criteria of an excuse or justification, as we have seen in the State v. Norman 378 S.E.2d 8 (1989) case. At issue in the case is whether the danger that the defendant, Judy Ann Laws Norman, felt was imminent in order to justify the homicide she committed when she shot her husband. The threat was imminent and present as soon as the perpetrator threatened the clerk and the threat continued to exist throughout the entire situation until the perpetrator was killed. The perception of the threat was reasonable since any reasonable person would feel in danger if someone brandished a gun at them. Finally, the store clerk was entitled to use deadly force to defend himself since the perpetrator was using deadly force as leverage in the situation. In conclusion, the situation contains all of the elements of self defense and the store clerk cannot face legal repercussions for the death of the perpetrator. Are any of the time intervals approximately constant? There were two intervals remained constant between at rest and after exercise, the PR interval and the RT interval (there was a clinically insignificant 0.01 second increase in the RT interval after exercise, however I suspect this was likely due to measurement error error rather than an actual increase). 2. With the exception of the R R interval, which time interval shows the greatest difference between resting and post exercise? Explain this observation. Two intervals did show a significant shorting post exercise. Besides the RR interval, the other recorded interval which contained a marked shortening after exercise was the TP interval. Symptoms of mental illness include; impulsivity and impaired judgment and can cause already hotheaded youths to act in antisocial ways (Hinday, 1997). A form of intervention that continually arises in research looking at young offenders is the use of cognitive behavioural therapy or modification. Cognitive Behavioural therapy is founded on social learning, and adopts the theory that offenders have learned unsuitable ways of behaving due to their environment (McGuire, 2003). Many intervention plans include this type of treatment, sometimes coupled with psychiatric treatments (Jones, Chancey, Lowe amp; Risler, 2010). What follows is a discussion of five such trends and an examination of the potential impact upon students, faculty, staff, parents and the institutions. The Cost of Higher Education The cost of higher education is on the rise. Within the United States, nearly every state has reduced funding to higher education. As a result, institutions are challenged with replacing the lost revenue and in most cases this is accomplished by increasing tuition. In addition the cost of benefits for faculty and staff is increasing. Dew (2012) found that as health care costs increase and both private and state sponsored pension funds decrease, institutions are increasingly dipping into their own revenues to support benefit packages. In another effort to reduce costs, universities continue to reduce the number of full time faculty and replace them with adjunct faculty and graduate assistants both of which are exempt from benefits. As tenured faculty members retire, universities elect to fill the position with part time faculty in lieu of high salaried tenured professors. • 32. The Story Of Ghosts By Henrik Ibsen Duty To Death The story of Ghosts by Henrik Ibsen shows us a multitude of issues, whether the readers think the piece as a basic form of literature or believe that the scripture shows the issues and lies or the fighting facts of injustice in the text. The constant fight between free will and duty in this story triumphs the characters of Mrs. Alving and Pastor Manders as they convene over what they think is right and what they are bound to do, even as the smaller character of Regine slightly deals with the same issue. Duty comes up in repeated cycles throughout the script of Ghosts, and the roles people are bound to in their life relays to the role they act in society. The duty of Mrs. Alving is no soft tale, as we are told of her husband s horrid affairs. The wife and mother of her nature and setting is duty bound to protect her husband s reputation, no matter how unsavory he is, and to sacrifice everything for her son. In return, the son must love his mother. In a way, we question the duty of the mother and ask whether or not it was right of Mrs. Alving to cover her husband s actions from her son, Osvald. Despite Ibsen s opinion of conspiracy, the cover up and how he writes the script as if he supports the hiding and the sacrifice, the reader on their own must make a choice in the matter. For Mrs. Alving to know her motherly duty and protect her son during his young years was a courageous execution for the paths she found available. As said by George Bernard Shaw in ...
