THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Abstract This paper looks at the failure of
Lehman Brothers as the biggest bankruptcy case in the US history and the events that followed. The
first part of the paper reviews factors that led to the failure and consequently the bankruptcy event.
Some of the causes leading to the crisis, namely the market for Credit Default Swaps (CDOs),
misrepresentation of financial statement, complex structure of the company, low standards, and
unethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This will also be discussed throughout the paper.
THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Causes of the Failure There is no single cause
that led to the failure of Lehman Brothers. There were numerous causes and agents that led to the
disaster, including greedy Wall Street traders, the debt load of American households, the Fed s action,
rating agencies, and last but not least, the
4
deregulation (Morin and Maux, 2011). These factors were responsible for the crisis of credit and not
solely the failure of Lehman Brothers. Still, the market of Credit Default Swaps was one of the biggest
factors dedicating to the catastrophe, if not the biggest one as Lehman was heavily involved in that
market. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer
to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the
bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable
rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). Morin and Maux (2011)
also discuss Lehman s involvement in that particular market as well as how Lehman caused erosion in
that market at the same time: The bank is accused of having sold Collateralized Debt Obligations
(CDOs) to its clients and taking short positions that effectively eroded the value of these

Alice And The Video Games
Alice and the Video Games Alice, an ignorant little girl from Alice and the Wonderland tumbled down
the rabbit hole into a world of meaninglessness (IMDb); today, proponents of banning violent video
games are following Alice, stumbling over themselves into a pitfall of a lack of substantial evidence
and reasoning. An exemplary example of such a proponent is Eric Roberts, the uncredentialed author
of the article Violent Video Games Produce Violent Behavior in Our Nation s Youth and Should Be
Banned . On top of making groundless claims against violent video games, Roberts lumps in unrelated
elements simply to appeal to pathos and vainly attempts to reel in his far fetched conclusions using a
plethora of fallacies to back up his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the latter half of his first argument, Roberts boldly claims Violent video games equate to violent
behavior, especially in children whose brains are not fully formed yet and a game rated MA (Mature)
doesn t stop a kid from playing it, yet there is utterly no evidence supporting these poor claims. In
reality, according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board s official website, a majority of parents
check the video game rating before purchasing it for their child (ESRB). Robert draws a hasty
generalization in hopes that readers will gloss over such details and ignorantly agree with Robert s
meaningless and false claims.
A vast majority of Robert s argument is based around women being portrayed as helpless victims or
sexual objects. Drawing on sympathetic feelings, Robert equates violent video games to sexual ones
and generalizes them as a whole. While attempting to indirectly attack violent video games, he utilizes
the straw man fallacy to prey on a vaguely associated, weaker target: sexual video games. He criticizes
these sexual games to coerce compassionate support, a mere gaudy bauble for naive readers to blindly
listen to Robert s argument. In fact, Roberts gives absolutely no evidence to state any link between
violent and sexual video games, much less a link between how sexual video games translate into sexist
or aggressive behavior in the modern world. Rather,

Homer s Use Of Stereotypes In The Simpsons
The satirical show The Simpsons , satirises aspects of life, in this episode its racism. In the episode
Mypods and Boomsticks the show exaggerates the view of Middle Eastern people. In particular the
American view, stereotyping them with terrorism, and using black humour and absurdity to support
that view. This show is aimed at young adult and/or adult viewers, as many references to the real
world may not be understood by younger viewers. The audience is positioned to think about if the
episode is politically correct. The episode uses the technique stereotype . To satirise Middle Eastern
people and the stereotypical American reaction to foreigners. In the episode Homer is prejudice
towards Bashers family and takes steps to expose the family as terrorists. The scene is effective in
using the technique stereotype . This has an effect on the viewer where they see Homer doing
something stupid in the show, which then makes the viewer think about themselves and how stupid
they look when they do the exact same thing in their own life. It shows Homer being a stereotypical
American when it comes to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Homer blames Bashers family for not being able to take toothpaste aboard an aircraft. Homer is
relating this issue to 9/11 where Middle Eastern people were involved, and that it is Bashers family
fault for it. This is humorous to some, as people use humour deal with tragedies like 9/11. Marge also
indirectly scrutinises Religions when she says Lisa, add another name to our Christmas card list. Next
to our Jewish friends. There are two indirect references to religion, where Jewish and Muslim culture
do not celebrate Christmas. Also Jewish and Muslim s are traditional enemy s in war and putting them
next to each other in a Christmas card list is stereotypical of marge being an ignorant American. The
Writer has shown that black humour is demeaning to people and religion, but it is also funny to

Tex Mex Food Research Paper
Imagine a world without Tex Mex foods. People would not be able to go to Taco Bell anytime of the
day, learn about the mexican culture, and america would not have its prideful cuisine. Tex mex is not
considered mexican food but it is known as America s first original regional cuisine (Alarcon). Many
people believe that tex Mex is just food that mexicans of Texas eat, but that is untrue. People of all
cultural backgrounds eat the original and delicious Tex mex cuisine. To experience true Tex Mex
cuisine one must visit either a restaurant run by someone of that nationality or a home of someone of
those nationalities. Many places try to copy the ways of the cuisine but it is not as authentic as it could
be.
According to Food Timeline, The gourmet Tex Mex fad began in the 1970s ( Mexican ).Tex Mex
foods are know as a combination of many cuisines mixed together. They are known as, a combination
of Indian and Spanish cuisines (Graham). This combination caused the U.S. to produce a new cuisine.

Ubcj Pros And Cons
The UBCJA supports issues that will increase worker rights as well as the quality of life of its
members. One of the cores issues of the UBCJA issues is wage and hour laws. Since its founding, the
UBCJA has worked for fair hours and fair pay. Part of this is prevailing wage laws which encompass
an hourly wage as well as benefits and overtime. The UBCJA supports laws concerning wage laws
because it prevents employers taking advantage of its members and ensures that their members are
adequately compensated for their work. They also support more welfare reform. The UBCJA calls for

economic downturn has only made those effects worse, ( Chinese Policies ). The UBCJA object

estimate the renminbi inflation to be worth up to 40% more than it actually is. This stance was written
after the UBCJA attended a panel of the Economic Policy Institution in 2010. Robert E. Scott, an

What Are The Advantages And Disadvantages Of Hire Purchase
4. The terms of agreements are unlikely to be fair, for the hirer rarely deals on equal footing with the
owner. Thus he may be subjected to heavy penalty on the ground of breach of the agreement.
BENEFITS OF THE HIRE PURCHASE AGREEMENT
There were two reasons for the adoption of the Hire Purchase Act which include: 1) To allow credit to
someone who is unable to pay cash for the goods he wants and who would be glad to pay some
deposit and there after pay the balance installment at a stipulated rate of interest. Since this encourages
people to demand more goods, the system has become an instrument of economic policy.
2) The second reason for the hire purchase device is that a dealer in particular goods or the

How The Grinch Stole Christmas Research Paper
Dr. Seuss, written many books such as Green Eggs and Ham and How the Grinch Stole Christmas, has
portrayed many morals that can be understood. My favorite Dr. Seuss book is How the Grinch Stole
Christmas. It is my favorite book because it tells a tale about how the mischievous Grinch (who hates
Christmas) plots to steal Christmas from the Whos. At the end of the book the Grinch realizes that
there is more to Christmas then presents. It is also my favorite book because it teaches me that you
don t need presents to celebrate Christmas. You can still celebrate Christmas with or without presents.
My favorite character from any Dr. Seuss book is Cindy Lou Who from How the Grinch Stole

Impact Of European Integration On The European Nations
Has European Integration been beneficial to the economies it encapsulate? September 30
2014
This paper aims to shed light upon the economics effects that European Integration has had on the
European nations both in and out of the Eurozone. There has been vast research and literature on this
topic, however only one to date that uses the synthetic counterfactuals method. Rooshi Patel
1 Introduction
Before the 1950s, Europe was a continent entrenched in war and revolts. From the 1800s to the 1950s
there were over ninety conflicts and uprising, culminating with arguably the most devastating: World
War II. The Second World War hit Europe with an enormous cost in terms human and economic
capital, it had left previously rich and prosperous nations in ruin. It not only exposed the horrors of
modern warfare but also the terrors of extreme nationalism, these two revelations lead to the
unanimous notion that such tragedy could never be allowed to occur in Europe again, or the rest of the
world for that matter. Monnet and Schuman, two French statesman regards as the architects of the
European Union, concluded the most effective way of promoting peace and stability throughout
Europe was via economic integration. (Wyplosz, 2012) The first step in this new direction was the
European Coal and Steal Community [ECSC], it was the first integrated body of its kind. It proposed
that for all nations who signed [Belgium, France, West Germany, Italy, Luxembourg and the
Netherlands], their

popular and considered historic because it has been a symbol of our military s patriotism and valor
America s strength, honor, and brotherhood. A strength that cannot be shaken, honor that cannot be
abjured, and a brotherhood that cannot be broken. The battle for Iwo Jima was a bloody battle against
the Japanese forces. The island took the heaviest and longest bombardment compared to any battles in
the Pacific during the war ( Battle for Iwo Jima, 1945 , 1960). The battle for Iwo Jima started in June

Apollo Shoes Case Study
OVERVIEW Apollo Shoes Inc. is a medium sized corporation. It has over 100 employees organized in
five department including Marketing, Finance, Information Systems, Operations, and Legal Affairs.
Apollo is a distributor of a technologically superior athletic product. Siren, Spotlight and Speakershoe
are Apollo s premiere brands. Their products are shipped to large and small retailers across a six state
area. INDUSTRY This year was difficult for all businesses. Due to conflicts in foreign countries and
uncertainty with the Federal Reserve s adjustments of interest rates, consumer confidence has been
greatly affected. Fewer consumers are buying Apollo Shoe s state of the art athletic equipment. All of
their operating divisions were severely tested and sales were not as strong as anticipated.
PREDECESSOR AUDITOR Apollo Shoe s management declined our request to communicate with
the predecessor auditor. The prior auditors, Smith Smith, CPAs, unexpectedly withdrew from their
engagement with Apollo Shoes Inc, and a lawsuit was filed shortly thereafter. The authority to speak
with the client s predecessor auditor would have been a great source of reliable information
concerning the client, and their refusal to allow communication is grounds for a heightened risk
assessment. RISK ASSESSMENT Internal Control: The Apollo Shoe s management has not kept its
business manual up to date. Several issues, such as classifying sales and authorization, have not been

Morality Is The Quality Of Being Morally Right
Morality is the quality of being morally right. Thoreau views morality as acting on one s conscience.
Conscience is a faculty that God gives to every man so he can discern between right and wrong. Its
verdicts are consistent across different circumstances, and across time. Therefore, morality is absolute.
In this section, Thoreau explores ways in which people justify not acting according to their
consciences. However, Thoreau maintains the conviction that nothing can excuse withholding what is
morally right.
Thoreau focuses his point on patrons of virtue. A patron of virtue is a person who understands and
supports the right, but does not act on what he knows. He introduces this group using a verse, which
reads, A drab of state, a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The majority will likely only abolish slavery through law when their culture has already deemed it
null. Thoreau believes only men who live by conscience can actually abolish slavery. These men show
their desires in their votes, but their choices to not need to prevail. These men know that only their
individual actions on conscience can cause the change they know is right.
Thoreau also believes that expediency cannot substitute for morality. He cites the philosopher William
Paley, who claims that the justice of every particular case of resistance is reduced to a computation of
the quantity of the danger and grievance on the one side, and of the probability and expense of
redressing it on the other (79). Paley argues that the morally correct action in any scenario requires
only comparing the costs o the actions on either side. Thoreau understands that many apply Paley s
theory to cases dealing with morality, which is evident when he calls Paley a common authority with
many on moral questions (79). Those who would use Paley s statement as a way to judge morally
correct action would not disown the United States government for its acceptance of slavery, because it
would cause unnecessary grievance on their own part, and inconvenience to the authorities. However,
Thoreau says that Paley s view only applies where the rule of expediency applies, or where only non

Perceptions And Perceptions Of Consumer Behavior Essay
In attitude behaviour relationships, the Theory of Reasoned Action states that consumer behaviours
are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the consumers perception
(Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). With regards to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude behaviour
relationship could manipulate the perception of consumer (see table 2 for perceptions and
explanations), for instance, perceived deception (Newell et al., 1998), perceived scepticism (Albayrak
et al., 2011), perceived inconsistency (Gallicano, 2011), perceived distrust, and/or perceived risk
(Chen Chang, 2013). Consumers motivations for purchasing green products differ and may even be
contradictory (Cleveland, Kalamas, Laroche, 2005). However, to some degree, the motivations are
thought to influence consumer purchasing behaviour and perception (Albayrak et al., 2011).
If the consumer s negative perceptions of falsely claimed green products are correlated, it corresponds
to Oliver s (1980) Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory, as well as Fishbein s Multi attribute Model
which also employs three components of attitude. Firstly, in Fishbein s Multi attribute Model are
salient beliefs , referencing the opinions an individual may acquire during the evaluation of goods or
services. Second, are object attribute linkages , these are a gauge of the possibility of significance
toward a specific attribute that is related to the object in question. The third component is

FDAApproval Process
FDAApproval Process It is commonly documented that every drugs and medical devices brings some
risk or side effects. As a matter of fact, every year roughly approximately 1 2 drugs and 6 8 medical
devices are discontinued from the U.S. market because of safety issue. Nevertheless, the FDA is
charged with assessing the protection and value of medical devices and drugs assessing the advantages
versus danger of every merchandise. Nonetheless, the FDA authorization procedures that are utilized
for drugs and devices may vary extensively through the CDER. For instances the drug expansion
program, takes about anywhere from 8 to 10 years, and starts with a few pre clinical studies that
evaluate genetic and safety activity in a variety of animal models. Most manufacturers have to propose
to the FDA in advance what is called an Investigational New Drug (IND) request to show outcomes of
preclinical testing before it can be tried on humans. Typically studies in humans are carried out in four
parts, three of which must take place earlier to the FDA s approval period. The first phase of the study

Essay on Claims by Judith Ortiz
Claims by Judith Ortiz
Judith Ortiz Cofer is a Puerto Rican whose writing often examines the conflict and the beauty of
cultures mixing together, as people immigrate to America. Though she exhibits a strong connection to
her Latin heritage, she often seems to also resent that part of her life. There are many standards and
expectations in the Puerto Rican society which Cofer writes to subvert, viewing them negatively. As a
Puerto Rican woman, Cofer often disagrees with the limits and expectations placed on a woman in
Puerto Rican society, and this attitude is the subject of much of her work. In Claims, the speaker
describes Grandmother. Cofer uses this poem to illustrate a family and describe an individual, as well
as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Examining Claims on another lever, one finds messages speaking out against the portrayal of a good
woman in Puerto Rican societies. Women are expected to sacrifice every aspect of their own lives for
their husbands and children. The Grandmother accepted her role in society, but always had dreams of
claiming her own life. Grandmother made a promise when she was married, and she kept her promise.
She raised five children and led a life committed to a husband who was expected by society to wander.
But all along, Grandmother had dreamed of the day when she could secure her freedom. She dreamed
of sleeping in her own bed and simply being herself. Her dream is finally realized in old age, as
described in the poem. Grandmother claimed the right to be herself and live her life. Her days were
constantly occupied by caring for her children and her nights were always invaded by her husband s
presence. Now that her family has all moved on, Grandmother has her house and her life for herself.
Each right that she has claimed has multiple meanings about her life and society, her dreams and true
personality. The first right, that of sleeping alone and owning her nights, describes an internal conflict
which Grandmother carried. While she truly loved her family, she yearned for space and freedom. She
wanted to control at least some part of her life, but

Fat Women In Grace Nichols s Fat Black Woman
Being fat and being woman is more than just a physical appearance or characteristic that describe a
body. Being a fat woman explores predominant conditions about size and gender that denote male
power, beauty prejudice and fatphobia (Atayurt, 2010). Grace Nichols in her Fat Black Woman´s
poem (1984) assertively frames the overweight black female figure from its triple displaced position
and exchanges this appearance into the realm of power and bodily pride , challenging different social
and cultural realities (Atayurt, 2010, p. 1). Likewise the feminist fat acceptance movement portrays fat
female from its undesirable connotation and challenges these negative social, political and cultural
assumptions, eliminating the structural barriers fat women face.
Feminist fat acceptance movement attempts to equate fat stigma with other forms of oppression
(racism, classism, ableism, ageism, etc.) due to the political importance of these single fights
(Chastain, 2015). In fact, fat individuals are as diverse as any other group of people such as fat queer
people, fat people with disabilities, fat black people or fat indigenous people (Chastain, 2015). Indeed,
also fat women have been exposed to various oppressions and rigorous beauty standards (James,
2013), medicalized discourses (Afful Ricciardelli, 2015), political expectations and health public
narratives that condemn large bodies (Friedman, 2012).
Therefore, how does the socioeconomic and political context influence the gendered anti fat
narratives? In fact, the gendered anti fat discussions are perpetuated and proliferated across Canada.
First, a critical analysis of the economic, political, social and moral discourses is required to identify
the meaning of power around fat women and how it is implemented. Second, this paper will critically
discuss how to dismantle power from the feminism and fat acceptance movement perspective, and the
role of the stakeholder groups. Third and last, this paper will address my role, responsibility, and
current challenges as a social worker to deconstruct fat oppression narratives.

The Hard Determinist Does Not Exist
People who believe that we have no free will, that there is no free actions are known as a hard
determinists. In other words, hard determinism is the doctrine that there are no free actions. To them,
everything is casually determined and no one acts freely. The hard determinist does not deny that it
seems that we have free will. What they deny is that the way things seems is the way they are.
Nothing could ever be any other way than the way it is. Choices do not exist, free will does not exist,
and randomness does not exist. What happens depends entirely on the previous arrangements of its
cause and could not be otherwise. Hard determinist argue that all human actions are casually
determined and therefore we act freely and cannot be held morally responsible for our actions. As an
example Bob and Tom are stuck in a room. In one hand, Bob has chocolate cake and in the other hand,
he has an apple, Bob is offering him one. Tom was given a choice to either choose the chocolate cake
or the apple and he chose the chocolate cakes. To Tom, in his mind, he would say that he chose the
chocolate cake on his own free will. If he wanted to, he could have chosen the apple, nothing forced
him to pick the chocolate cake, he chose it because he wanted it, and he was free to choose either. A
hard determinist would say that his past events made him chose the chocolate cake. Maybe as a child,
he was given the sweet sugary treat more often the healthy fresh apple and because of that reason, he

HOME AREA NETWORK
A Home Area Network is an interconnection in which some networking devices are connected with
each other for sharing resources between them with the help of internet. The main advantage of Home
Area Network is that you can share different type of content i.e. videos, audios etc. among different
users. A computer with large storage memory can be used as server which can be easily accessed by
the clients and users can easily access the data whenever they wanted to access. As in Home Area
Network everything i.e. Resources, Data, Information etc. is shared so each user can use devices like
Printers, Scanners which will be very cheap. Also another main advantage of Home Area Network is
that there is no need to buy several different Public IP Address s for different devices, administrator of
network can only have single Public IP Address and assign this public IP address to a modem or a
router, while a modem or a router in turn assigns a private IP address to each device to access the
internet.
Many people are turning to their home computers for both work and entertainment. Some companies

Reasons To Stop Animal Testing In The United States
In the United States over 100 million animals are use for animal testing they treat them in a cruel way.
However, these creatures suffer many damages and the problem is that they cannot defend themselves
and if we still consuming products that includes animal testing this plague is never going to end. Some
of the main reasons why we should stop buying products that they use animals for testing are because
of the physical pain they cause to the animal, animals rights are violated when they use them for
research and, the mental damage you cause to the animal if they survive.
In the first place, the physical pain you cause to the animal goes above than a hundred. Most of these
animals die because of the several damages they suffered when they are tested. According to The
International Association for the Study of Painan pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional

Swot Analysis Ryanair
Strengths Ryanair is one of the largest European airline company and it keeps growing by launching
new routes and opening new bases. Ryanair was the first company in reducing ticket costs and keep
them low at all times. Low fares area key strength of the company and very big advantage over other
airlines. Another strength of the company has a strong brand which means it s widely recognised.

according to London Stock Exchange. (Appendix 1) The last strength of Ryanair listed is the ability of
landing in over 200 destinations on 33 countries. Weakness Internally, there has been serious strategic
issues with current employment model applied by Ryanair. Statistics shown that the average length of
service for pilots is about 4.6 years and average of 386 pilots leave Ryanair each year since 2012. This
is caused by precarious nature of their employment relationship including disrespect towards pilots
and cabin crew, failure of giving scheduled time off and working over contracted hours. In this case
precarious work condition means that many Ryanair pilots don t have fixed permanent contract. Pilots
are grouped into Irish agency companies which have between 5 and 8 pilot directors, those agency
companies then subcontract into a UK labour provider of pilots and then that UK provider provides
the pilot labour into Ryanair. This causing a big distance between Ryanair and the

Analysis Of Global Sparks
PAS Scenario 2 Global Sparks
Background
Global Sparks (GS) is an international energy company headquartered in London. It employs almost
30,000 staff, 11,000 of which work in the US, and has an annual revenue of £14,800 million. It started
buying local electricity suppliers in the US in the late 2000s, and built up a substantial group of
companies on the West Coast. GS went through a process of consolidating its acquisitions into a single
company, and in a now de regulated market, it had to cut costs to keep its prices competitive. This led
to the decision to outsource IT to an Indian company, and connect stand alone systems to a network to
enable remote operation and maintenance. Since then, there has been a period of growth, and ... Show

Document Control
In 2012, the US government introduced a new law, stating that documents containing sensitive
information (such as locations and blueprints of power generating plants) have to be redacted. Access
to un redacted documents is from now on a strict need to know basis: only by employees whose work
depends on access to the information can access the un redacted provided they have:
passed a 5 year security background check (this process takes 4 weeks once the documents have been
submitted), and completed the online training course (takes 5 6 hours to complete) on how to protect
sensitive information.
The legislation makes possession of un redacted documents by unauthorised persons a criminal
offence, and allows governments to withdraw licences from any company found to allow access to
unauthorised individuals. GS invests in a document management system to hold the un redacted

Positive Effects Of The Columbian Exchange
In 1492 Christopher Columbus and his voyagers set sail because Columbus wanted to find a new route

some new islands, which lead to the start of the Columbian Exchange, the Columbian exchange was
between the Old World (Europe, Africa) and the New World ( North and South America). The
Columbian Exchange was the exchange of plants, tobacco, food, disease and so much more. The
Columbian Exchange had both a negative and positive change on the people s life who lived in those

How Did Berkeley And Hume Affect The Enlightenment
This week, I will be answering question number two (2) which asks about Berkeley and Hume. How
did these two philosophers effect the progress of the Enlightenment? Is one philosopher more
successful than the other? I will be focusing on Berkeley and Hume s impact on the work of
Enlightenment and Empiricist philosopher John Locke. Berkeley and Hume both had some differing
ideas when compared to those of some of the Enlightenment philosophers. For example, Berkeley
rejected the idea of Locke s distinction between primary and secondary qualities of perception.
According to Berkeley, all perception is secondary. Berkeley also argued that we cannot know
independently existing material objects. Objects or things are nothing more than the ideas we

European And Native American Beliefs
The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of
different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America
they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to
adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native
Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit,
believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the
Natives believed in one god, Master Spirit , unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could
assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits.
Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting
everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions
gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native
American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. Before the Sun Dance was primarily practiced in
the Upper Plains and the Rocky Mountains and performed at the summer solstice. The dance was
often practiced differently for each tribe, but the Eagle, helping bring body and spirit in harmony, is an
important symbol for all tribes. There are many similarities for each tribe including: specific songs
and dances that

Piaget s Developmental Stages Essay
Piaget s developmental stages are ways of normal intellectual development. There are four different
stages. The stages start at infant age and work all the way up to adulthood. The stages include things
like judgment, thought, and knowledge of infants, children, teens, and adults. These four stages were
names after Jean Piaget a developmental biologist and psychologist. Piaget recorded intellectual
abilities and developments of infants, children, and teens. The four different stages of Piaget s
developmental stages are sensorimotor, preoperational, concrete operational, and formal operational.

I handed my infant niece, Harper, a set of keys, thinking she would shake them and giggle at the noise
they made. I thought this because in Piaget s developmental stage, sensorimotor, it states that infants
learn from experimenting and their main focus is what is happening in that very moment. My
prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then
once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise.
The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a
more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe,
past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the
preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do
more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. They are still too young to grasp the
concept of cause and effect. They also do not understand time and comparison yet.
My niece, Arianna, plays house and has baby dolls. She pretends like she is a mother to her baby dolls.
Even though this is make believe she is playing the role of a mother to her baby doll. This connects to
Piaget s developmental stage of preoperational because her thinking is not completely logical, but she
knows that the baby is not actually real. I think that this is how most little

Consumer Behaviour Short Report
Introduction The purpose of this short report is to discuss the selective attention process and further to
that discuss how it affects consumers. Every decision a consumer makes, whether to purchase or not,
will be influenced by a number of factors. Consumers today experience a wide variety of messages
(stimuli) from marketers across many different mediums. It is the consumers ability to decide whether
to accept or reject which messages resonate with them according to their own needs, wants and other
lifestyle factors that form the basis for selective attention. In particular Avery Baker s explanation of

A Brief Note On Assisted Suicide And Suicide
As the semester goes on I need to continually do progress reports to see how far I have grown as a

The Right to Assisted Suicide. At the beginning of the semester I was asked to write a progress report
of my writing thus far. During that memo I wrote three goals; to improve my grammar, to add more
details to my essays, and fixing mistakes from past essays.
White Paper
So far I have found all of my sources for my white paper. I have been able to find about five websites
for assisted suicide and I have found four websites against assisted suicide. I have talked to a few

Grammar
During my first progress report I wrote that I needed to grow in grammar. The goal is still the same
although I was asked to specify. The final test that I will use is to go back and do the grammar test that
we had used previously. I hope to get a lot higher of a score then I did. The worksheets I have used
have come from grammar websites where I was learning the rules. I said I would like to work on five
different grammar sheets. Within this semester I have been improving in grammar. I got an app that
quizzes me on grammar usage; I also have done a few worksheets, though I do think the app is better.
I think I have stayed the same for the grammar category in my writing assignments. I do feel as if I
understand the rules better but I do not think I have shown improvement.
Details
Another goal I set for myself was putting more details in my essays. I was asked to define what I
meant by descriptive point, I meant a point that explains what I mean exactly. For example, while
talking about assisted suicide I do not just want to say people die, I want to explain why people die
and how. I think I have gotten a lot better in this category, which is making my writing make

Picture 2: Mining and gas wells within Boreal forests Photo credit: Green Peace
Firstly, economic valuation of ecosystem services can provide a logical reasoning to oppose
unwarranted industrial development in Boreal zone. For instance, a study conducted by Canadian
Boreal Initiative on Counting Canada s Natural Capital estimated the total economic value of boreal
ecosystem services (both market and non market values) in the year 2002 as 750 billion CAD which
would equate to 61 percent of the value of Canada s GDP (as of 2002). Furthermore, on comparing the
values, it was found that total non market value of boreal ecosystem services is 13.8 times greater than
the net market value of boreal natural capital extraction. The results imply that economic, ecological
and social benefits of boreal forest systems in their pristine state, may be significantly greater than the
market values derived from current industrial development forestry, oil and gas, mining, and
hydroelectric energy combined.
Secondly, the regeneration capacity of these forests are very low so the trees once destroyed, would
take much longer to grow back than forests in tropical regions. Fires in Canada s boreal forest are
common, burning an average of 2m ha every year. Insurance Bureau of Canada calculated the damage

The Influence of Mythology on Literature and Society Essay
The Influence of Mythology on Literature and Society
Edith Hamilton is the author of the book Mythology. This book is about the Mythology of the Romans
and Greeks through her eyes and the way she interprets it. In the beginning of the book Hamilton
writes an introduction to Classical Mythology and how, and why it came about. She starts off by
writing that Greek and Roman Mythology is meant to show us how people felt about the human race
and about where they came from many years ago. She points out that Mythology describes the Earth
when it was young and people cared for the Earth more than today. This is true, because in today?s
world not many people are caring about the Earth and its going by us fast.

An example would be how the Egyptian god?s have different body parts with other bodies and the
Greek gods are humans. Hamilton states that the Egyptians made gods they thought up and made them
in a way that no one has seen before. The Greeks therefore made their gods in there own image. That
made it easier for them to understand them and know how they act. The major point Hamilton is
showing in this introduction is that Mythology is a new to look at life and to understand it under a
different light. Another point she states is that Greek Mythology it?s self, is so unique that it showed
extreme beauty yet fear at that same time. The gods were not to be completely feared, but respected to
the point where you didn?t anger them. Greek Mythology is also unique, because it doesn?t have
many of the things that are in most religion or folklore. Hamilton states that Greek Mythology didn?t
contain Magic or Witches, and in reality didn?t fear the dead, they actually pitied the dead. Hamilton?s
main point in this whole introduction is that Mythology itself is completely and totally different from
any other religion or folklore ever. Mythology was written in such a beautiful way that upon reading
it, it seems real and it begins to take shape. She is also saying that Greek Mythology was in a way
different than normal Mythology and therefore changed the face of Mythology forever.

retirement, and retaining mid level employees from enticing positions in the private sector are major
reasons the government has severe shortages in qualified and talented management. In his testimony
before the House Committee on Government Reform, Steven Kellman, a professor of Public
Management at Harvard University s Kennedy School of Government, points out disturbing trends in
the hiring rate of college graduates from institutions specializing in public management and
administration. Twenty years ago, about three quarters of the graduates from our two year master s
program took their first job with government. Now that figure is down to about one third. These
figures are similar to those of other major graduate programs in public policy around the

Audrey Mullender s Rethinking Domestic Violence
A common excuse among men who abuse women is I had no control over myself. In Audrey
Mullender s book Rethinking Domestic Violence: The Social Work and Probation Response 1996, she
states that this and excuses like it have the tendency to defer the responsibility from the abuser to an
obstacle from their past that impacted them negatively (231 32). Mullender is on to something because
within the last decade there has been an increase of domestic violence by known figureheads. These
incidents have been conducted by artists, celebrities and athletes. According to a reporter who has
interviewed a couple of these men, all of them blame their actions on accidents , the woman or due
losing consciousness (Ross). None of these excuses hold any leverage ... Show more content on

Even though most acts of domestic violence are not seen, the United States Department of Justice
reports that they make up 21% of violent crimes (Truman). This issue is nothing to take lightly just
because it is not presented as much as other crimes. The Salvation Army believe so too, which is why
they created this ad that incorporates a viral controversy with the actual controversy of domestic
violence. They are subliminally sending the message that although, this dress caused commotion it
was not important. What is important is that women are getting abused daily without a blink of an eye.
There needs to be a change in the society to cause an uproar over events or movements that can
protect a life or make the world better, not for an article of clothing that perhaps one person owns and
decided to luckily place the right camera filter on at the right time. Society needs to get its priorities in
order before some truly horrifying event happens that shakes the world to its core. Obviously, by using
a woman, text and an allusion within the ad The Salvation Army is trying to give the world the push it
needs to identify that there is a problem that needs to be dealt with

Prejudice In Hey Skinny Bones
Race prejudice is not only a shadow over the color it is a shadow over all of us, and the shadow is
darkest over those who feel it least and allow its evil effects to go on. (Pearl S. Harbor.) Prejudice is
similar to an epidemic that not only affects certain people, at some point or another there are a lot of
people the have experience some sort of prejudice. What matters is what you do to rise above it. Race
prejudice not only hovers and hurts people of color but this evil hovers the darkest over people that
allow it to go on, they will continue to feel this guilt and depression until they put a stop to this. At
times, small personal issues can overshadow large public ones, this is because man vs. self had a

all her class and the only thing that is holding her back from a more challenging education is the fact
that she learned Spanish before English. Elena can speak clearly and she comprehends English but

The Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS 1 The Bankruptcy of Lehman Brothers: Causes of Failure Recommendations Going Forward Amirsaleh Azadinamin Doctorate of Finance Candidate March 6, 2012 Electronic copy available at: http://ssrn.com/abstract=2016892 THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Abstract This paper looks at the failure of Lehman Brothers as the biggest bankruptcy case in the US history and the events that followed. The first part of the paper reviews factors that led to the failure and consequently the bankruptcy event. Some of the causes leading to the crisis, namely the market for Credit Default Swaps (CDOs), misrepresentation of financial statement, complex structure of the company, low standards, and unethical ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This will also be discussed throughout the paper. THE BANKRUPTCY OF LEHMAN BROTHERS Causes of the Failure There is no single cause that led to the failure of Lehman Brothers. There were numerous causes and agents that led to the disaster, including greedy Wall Street traders, the debt load of American households, the Fed s action, rating agencies, and last but not least, the 4 deregulation (Morin and Maux, 2011). These factors were responsible for the crisis of credit and not solely the failure of Lehman Brothers. Still, the market of Credit Default Swaps was one of the biggest factors dedicating to the catastrophe, if not the biggest one as Lehman was heavily involved in that market. In explaining the sub prime market, Morin and Maux (2011) explain that sub prime loans refer to inferior quality (sub) real estate loans whose higher risk of payment default is countered by the bank with a higher interest rate. These mortgage loans, granted at variable rates, were extended to American households with modest incomes (p. 41). Morin and Maux (2011) also discuss Lehman s involvement in that particular market as well as how Lehman caused erosion in

Alice And The Video Games Alice and the Video Games Alice, an ignorant little girl from Alice and the Wonderland tumbled down the rabbit hole into a world of meaninglessness (IMDb); today, proponents of banning violent video games are following Alice, stumbling over themselves into a pitfall of a lack of substantial evidence and reasoning. An exemplary example of such a proponent is Eric Roberts, the uncredentialed author of the article Violent Video Games Produce Violent Behavior in Our Nation s Youth and Should Be Banned . On top of making groundless claims against violent video games, Roberts lumps in unrelated elements simply to appeal to pathos and vainly attempts to reel in his far fetched conclusions using a plethora of fallacies to back up his ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In the latter half of his first argument, Roberts boldly claims Violent video games equate to violent behavior, especially in children whose brains are not fully formed yet and a game rated MA (Mature) doesn t stop a kid from playing it, yet there is utterly no evidence supporting these poor claims. In reality, according to the Entertainment Software Rating Board s official website, a majority of parents check the video game rating before purchasing it for their child (ESRB). Robert draws a hasty generalization in hopes that readers will gloss over such details and ignorantly agree with Robert s meaningless and false claims. A vast majority of Robert s argument is based around women being portrayed as helpless victims or sexual objects. Drawing on sympathetic feelings, Robert equates violent video games to sexual ones and generalizes them as a whole. While attempting to indirectly attack violent video games, he utilizes the straw man fallacy to prey on a vaguely associated, weaker target: sexual video games. He criticizes these sexual games to coerce compassionate support, a mere gaudy bauble for naive readers to blindly listen to Robert s argument. In fact, Roberts gives absolutely no evidence to state any link between violent and sexual video games, much less a link between how sexual video games translate into sexist or aggressive behavior in the modern world. In the episode Mypods and Boomsticks the show exaggerates the view of Middle Eastern people. In particular the American view, stereotyping them with terrorism, and using black humour and absurdity to support that view. September 30 2014 This paper aims to shed light upon the economics effects that European Integration has had on the European nations both in and out of the Eurozone. There has been vast research and literature on this topic, however only one to date that uses the synthetic counterfactuals method. Rooshi Patel 1 Introduction Before the 1950s, Europe was a continent entrenched in war and revolts. From the 1800s to the 1950s there were over ninety conflicts and uprising, culminating with arguably the most devastating: World War II. The Second World War hit Europe with an enormous cost in terms human and economic capital, it had left previously rich and prosperous nations in ruin. It not only exposed the horrors of modern warfare but also the terrors of extreme nationalism, these two revelations lead to the unanimous notion that such tragedy could never be allowed to occur in Europe again, or the rest of the world for that matter. Monnet and Schuman, two French statesman regards as the architects of the European Union, concluded the most effective way of promoting peace and stability throughout Europe was via economic integration. (Wyplosz, 2012) The first step in this new direction was the European Coal and Steal Community [ECSC], it was the first integrated body of its kind. • 12. Apollo Shoes Case Study OVERVIEW Apollo Shoes Inc. is a medium sized corporation. It has over 100 employees organized in five department including Marketing, Finance, Information Systems, Operations, and Legal Affairs. Apollo is a distributor of a technologically superior athletic product. Siren, Spotlight and Speakershoe are Apollo s premiere brands. Their products are shipped to large and small retailers across a six state area. INDUSTRY This year was difficult for all businesses. Due to conflicts in foreign countries and uncertainty with the Federal Reserve s adjustments of interest rates, consumer confidence has been greatly affected. Fewer consumers are buying Apollo Shoe s state of the art athletic equipment. All of their operating divisions were severely tested and sales were not as strong as anticipated. PREDECESSOR AUDITOR Apollo Shoe s management declined our request to communicate with the predecessor auditor. The prior auditors, Smith Smith, CPAs, unexpectedly withdrew from their engagement with Apollo Shoes Inc, and a lawsuit was filed shortly thereafter. The authority to speak with the client s predecessor auditor would have been a great source of reliable information concerning the client, and their refusal to allow communication is grounds for a heightened risk assessment. RISK ASSESSMENT Internal Control: The Apollo Shoe s management has not kept its business manual up to date. Several issues, such as classifying sales and authorization, have not been outlined in ... • 13. Morality Is The Quality Of Being Morally Right Morality is the quality of being morally right. Thoreau views morality as acting on one s conscience. Conscience is a faculty that God gives to every man so he can discern between right and wrong. Its verdicts are consistent across different circumstances, and across time. Therefore, morality is absolute. In this section, Thoreau explores ways in which people justify not acting according to their consciences. However, Thoreau maintains the conviction that nothing can excuse withholding what is morally right. Thoreau focuses his point on patrons of virtue. A patron of virtue is a person who understands and supports the right, but does not act on what he knows. He introduces this group using a verse, which reads, A drab of state, a ... Thoreau believes only men who live by conscience can actually abolish slavery. These men show their desires in their votes, but their choices to not need to prevail. These men know that only their individual actions on conscience can cause the change they know is right. Thoreau also believes that expediency cannot substitute for morality. He cites the philosopher William Paley, who claims that the justice of every particular case of resistance is reduced to a computation of the quantity of the danger and grievance on the one side, and of the probability and expense of redressing it on the other (79). Paley argues that the morally correct action in any scenario requires only comparing the costs o the actions on either side. Thoreau understands that many apply Paley s theory to cases dealing with morality, which is evident when he calls Paley a common authority with many on moral questions (79). Those who would use Paley s statement as a way to judge morally correct action would not disown the United States government for its acceptance of slavery, because it would cause unnecessary grievance on their own part, and inconvenience to the authorities. • 14. Perceptions And Perceptions Of Consumer Behavior Essay In attitude behaviour relationships, the Theory of Reasoned Action states that consumer behaviours are constructed by their attitudes, and the attitude itself is the result of the consumers perception (Fishbein Ajzen, 1975). With regards to greenwashing, research has found that this attitude behaviour relationship could manipulate the perception of consumer (see table 2 for perceptions and explanations), for instance, perceived deception (Newell et al., 1998), perceived scepticism (Albayrak et al., 2011), perceived inconsistency (Gallicano, 2011), perceived distrust, and/or perceived risk (Chen Chang, 2013). Consumers motivations for purchasing green products differ and may even be contradictory (Cleveland, Kalamas, Laroche, 2005). However, to some degree, the motivations are thought to influence consumer purchasing behaviour and perception (Albayrak et al., 2011). If the consumer s negative perceptions of falsely claimed green products are correlated, it corresponds to Oliver s (1980) Expectancy Disconfirmation Theory, as well as Fishbein s Multi attribute Model which also employs three components of attitude. Firstly, in Fishbein s Multi attribute Model are salient beliefs , referencing the opinions an individual may acquire during the evaluation of goods or services. Second, are object attribute linkages , these are a gauge of the possibility of significance toward a specific attribute that is related to the object in question. The third component is ... Essay on Claims by Judith Ortiz Claims by Judith Ortiz Judith Ortiz Cofer is a Puerto Rican whose writing often examines the conflict and the beauty of cultures mixing together, as people immigrate to America. Though she exhibits a strong connection to her Latin heritage, she often seems to also resent that part of her life. There are many standards and expectations in the Puerto Rican society which Cofer writes to subvert, viewing them negatively. As a Puerto Rican woman, Cofer often disagrees with the limits and expectations placed on a woman in Puerto Rican society, and this attitude is the subject of much of her work. Examining Claims on another lever, one finds messages speaking out against the portrayal of a good woman in Puerto Rican societies. Women are expected to sacrifice every aspect of their own lives for their husbands and children. The Grandmother accepted her role in society, but always had dreams of claiming her own life. Grandmother made a promise when she was married, and she kept her promise. She raised five children and led a life committed to a husband who was expected by society to wander. But all along, Grandmother had dreamed of the day when she could secure her freedom. She dreamed of sleeping in her own bed and simply being herself. Her dream is finally realized in old age, as described in the poem. Grandmother claimed the right to be herself and live her life. Her days were constantly occupied by caring for her children and her nights were always invaded by her husband s presence. Now that her family has all moved on, Grandmother has her house and her life for herself. Each right that she has claimed has multiple meanings about her life and society, her dreams and true personality. The first right, that of sleeping alone and owning her nights, describes an internal conflict which Grandmother carried. While she truly loved her family, she yearned for space and freedom. • 17. Fat Women In Grace Nichols s Fat Black Woman Being fat and being woman is more than just a physical appearance or characteristic that describe a body. Being a fat woman explores predominant conditions about size and gender that denote male power, beauty prejudice and fatphobia (Atayurt, 2010). Grace Nichols in her Fat Black Woman´s poem (1984) assertively frames the overweight black female figure from its triple displaced position and exchanges this appearance into the realm of power and bodily pride , challenging different social and cultural realities (Atayurt, 2010, p. 1). Likewise the feminist fat acceptance movement portrays fat female from its undesirable connotation and challenges these negative social, political and cultural assumptions, eliminating the structural barriers fat women face. Feminist fat acceptance movement attempts to equate fat stigma with other forms of oppression (racism, classism, ableism, ageism, etc.) due to the political importance of these single fights (Chastain, 2015). In fact, fat individuals are as diverse as any other group of people such as fat queer people, fat people with disabilities, fat black people or fat indigenous people (Chastain, 2015). Indeed, also fat women have been exposed to various oppressions and rigorous beauty standards (James, 2013), medicalized discourses (Afful Ricciardelli, 2015), political expectations and health public narratives that condemn large bodies (Friedman, 2012). Therefore, how does the socioeconomic and political context influence the gendered anti fat narratives? In fact, the gendered anti fat discussions are perpetuated and proliferated across Canada. First, a critical analysis of the economic, political, social and moral discourses is required to identify the meaning of power around fat women and how it is implemented. Second, this paper will critically discuss how to dismantle power from the feminism and fat acceptance movement perspective, and the role of the stakeholder groups. In other words, hard determinism is the doctrine that there are no free actions. To them, everything is casually determined and no one acts freely. The hard determinist does not deny that it seems that we have free will. What they deny is that the way things seems is the way they are. Nothing could ever be any other way than the way it is. Choices do not exist, free will does not exist, and randomness does not exist. What happens depends entirely on the previous arrangements of its cause and could not be otherwise. Hard determinist argue that all human actions are casually determined and therefore we act freely and cannot be held morally responsible for our actions. As an example Bob and Tom are stuck in a room. In one hand, Bob has chocolate cake and in the other hand, he has an apple, Bob is offering him one. Tom was given a choice to either choose the chocolate cake or the apple and he chose the chocolate cakes. To Tom, in his mind, he would say that he chose the chocolate cake on his own free will. If he wanted to, he could have chosen the apple, nothing forced him to pick the chocolate cake, he chose it because he wanted it, and he was free to choose either. European And Native American Beliefs The history of Native American religion is influenced by exposure to Europeans, the beliefs of different tribes, and traditions that were passed down orally. When the Europeans came to America they impacted the Native American religions in many different ways. The Native Americans had to adapt to Europeans, but they also kept to their original ways. Even before the adaptations, the Native Americans and Europeans had similarities including: believing one god and one main evil spirit, believing in an afterlife, and they both believed in the immortality of the soul. Even though the Natives believed in one god, Master Spirit , unlike the Europeans, they believed that the god could assume a variety of forms and both genders; Native Americans also believed in many lesser spirits. Other differences were that Natives passed their beliefs down verbally instead of documenting everything in a book or books. As a result of exposure to Europeans, Native American traditions gradually intermixed with Christian beliefs. One example of the influence of Christianity on Native American rituals is the adaptations to the Sun Dance. My prediction was correct. As soon as I held the keys in front of her she began to reach for them. Then once I handed the keys to her, she rattled them making a clanging noise. The preoperational stage is when infants become older, young children and they are able to think in a more symbolic way. In this stage children start to learn the difference between real and make believe, past and future. They tend to have more of an imagination as they grow older. Children in the preoperational stage still are not completely logical with their thinking. They go more off intuition. Do more of what they want to do, not what is the best thing to do. Within this semester I have been improving in grammar. I got an app that quizzes me on grammar usage; I also have done a few worksheets, though I do think the app is better. I think I have stayed the same for the grammar category in my writing assignments. I do feel as if I understand the rules better but I do not think I have shown improvement. Details Another goal I set for myself was putting more details in my essays. I was asked to define what I meant by descriptive point, I meant a point that explains what I mean exactly. For example, while talking about assisted suicide I do not just want to say people die, I want to explain why people die and how.
