Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville
In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food,
as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking
water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas
(Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential
to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the
clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these
substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they
brought in. This ability ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Air stripping removes contaminants by pumping contaminated water and evaporating the bad
chemicals. However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater).
Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be
changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive
(Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the
possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves using
plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very long time
and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the ecosystems
(Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in wetland habitats
for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants to change harmful
chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi timely manner, but it is expensive. Comparatively,
Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many bodies of water from past human
transport and easy to

A Vegetarian Diet Is The Best Possible Diet For A Person...
A vegan diet is the best possible diet for a person because it prevents diseases. In Sarah Barns view,
Vegans and vegetarians typically have... a lower risk of death from heart disease, and lower overall
cancer rates. Science and research confirms that you don t need meat to be healthy at all, in fact
statistics point to quite the opposite ( Live Longer, Boost Immunity, Slim Down: 10 Reasons Why You
Should Go Vegan In 2015, Daily Express par. 3). Basically, Sarah Barns is saying that having a vegan
or vegetarian diet will decrease the chances of dying from heart disease. This demonstrates that dying
from heart disease is prevented by having a lack of unhealthy fat in the body. Unhealthy fat gets
trapped in the arteries, which clogs them. When the arteries are clogged, it can lead to a heart attack or
a stroke. Clearly, having a vegan diet will contribute to the prevention of heart disease. Hope
Warshaw, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists and Certified Diabetes Educator states, A study of nearly
100,000 members of the Seventh day Adventist church, which promotes a vegetarian diet, showed that
the vegetarians had a lower rate of type 2 than nonvegetarians. ( Should You Go Vegetarian? The
Benefits of a Plant Based Diet for People with Diabetes par. 3). Also, Michael J. Orlich M.D., assistant
professor of preventive medicine at Loma Linda University in California said, The closer people
follow a vegan diet, the more they stay at a healthy weight and prevent type 2

This notion is the core of James MacGregor Burns classic definition of leadership as leaders inducing
followers to act for certain goals that represent the values and the motivations the wants and needs, the
aspirations and expectations of both leaders and followers. Successful leadership inspires the members
of the organization to embrace shared values and to move together toward shared objectives.4 Rowing
a boat is sometimes offered as the metaphor: if several individuals try to row a boat while out of sync
and with each attempting to steer in a different direction, much energy will be expended with little
progress made. A successful leader (in the metaphor, the coxswain), however, inspires the rowers to
stroke in sync in support of a common direction, which will cause the boat to go farther and faster
toward the desired destination.

Gatorade Lab Report
Background
The growth and survival of a plant depends on the reactions that occur internally called
photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a reaction that captures the sun s energy and converts it, water, and
carbon dioxide into glucose, with a byproduct of oxygen. Glucose is a sugar that provides energy to
allow for a plant to grow and live. This experiment is to test how photosynthesis can be sped up with a
home solution. The variable being changed in this experiment is the solution that the plant is being
given. In this instance, some of the plants will be given Gatorade, rather than water. The question
being asked is, How well will a solution found in the home affect plant growth?
My hypothesis is that, if a plant is given Gatorade instead of water, then it will grow more quickly
than if the plant is just given water. This is because of the components of Gatorade. Gatorade contains
water, a key component of plant growth. But, because Gatorade contains various vitamins, sugars, and
electrolytes, the plant should already be supplied with some of the products of photosynthesis, so the
plant should produce sugars at a normal rate, plus have the additional bonus from the Gatorade.
Procedure
Four cups of equal size were filled with one cup of garden soil. Lima beans were planted at an equal
depth (one inch as instructed on the bag). Every day, for 33 days, each plant received one half
tablespoon of the specified liquid. Beans one and two got one half tablespoon of water each,

Does Globalization Diminish Cultural Differences
Giorgia Frizzi, 23rd July 2010
Globalization, Localization, Glocalization
Research Paper.
Does globalization weaken cultural diversity or does it foster it?
Effects of Globalization in Cultural differentiation
1. Introduction.
As some of us may know, the term globalize started being used in the modern times. However
globalization as an idea has been brought up since even before the 1500 s when people started forming
connections between communities, and therefore creating forms of communication, migration and
such between these. And it is probably from these examples that in the modern era we came to call it
Globalization which is known for being a process of integration between cultures, societies,
economies, etc. Nonetheless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Webster s Third New International Dictionary (Gove, 2000) defines culture as the total pattern of
human behavior and its products embodied in speech, action, and artifacts and dependent upon man s
capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations. I believe that nowadays
culture is no longer perceived as some sort of knowledge system we got from our ancestors. Indeed
many anthropologists and socialists now perceive culture as the ideas, attributes and expectations that
change as people react to changing situations. Indeed, in the 21st century , technology has increased
the velocity of social change. For instance the internet and fast communication in general are pretty
much destroying cultural boundaries and they are creating the possibility of a global culture. In these
regards McLuhan (1962: p.31) coined the term global village in the 60s referring to the globalization
of media. McLuhan shows how the world has turned into a village thanks to electric technology that
brings all social functions together and makes us all more aware of our global responsibility. On the
other hand it has been considerably argued that globalization might instead foster cultural diversity
and give more space to local cultures. Roland Robertson suggests by using the term Glocalization ,
that locality and with it cultural diversity may be strengthened thanks to globalization. More
specifically he describes for instance the process of a

Federic Taylor and Taylorism Essays
Federic Taylor and Taylorism Many people and companies have rejected the theory of scientific
management that Frederic Taylor developed in the early 1900 s because it wasn t working effectively
for the companies. However as Rober Kanigel make clear in his biography of Frederick Taylor One
Best Way the problem wasn t with the theory of scientific management , but with the Frederic Taylor
and his attempts at managing his own theories. Frederic Taylor was an engineer, a perfectionist; he
didn t have personality skills necessary to be an effective manager or leader. Someone how had these
skills could manage a company well with his theory. What scientific management really is a complete
method of creative problem solving and decision ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Taylor did treat people like machines as he worked them as hard as possible, leaving them with no
energy at the end of the day for leisure activities. His stop watch techniques making sure they met the
time goals resulted in the feeling of a large amount of pressure.
Taylor s personality was of being a meticulous and Machiavellian, obsessive about details and
overbearing. He was therefore one of the worst types of people to have as a manager is a very
meticulous person as he was be very demanding and never pleased with the work. Taylor used what
many people call a Theory X style of management, one that threats employees poorly and like
machines. He assumed that people had of no initiative their own to work hard and were only capable
of what they were during then and nothing else.
To fully understand how poorly Taylor implemented his theory, one only needs to look at the
companies he worked at; Bethlehem Steel is a prime example under Taylor s management.
Each task had an instruction card, which laid everything out in black and white and eliminated the
need for the employees to think, and each task was figured out to the fraction of a second, which wore
out employees faster than other systems this is not the life that people want to work for. While the
Taylor system did pay more, employees did not feel that the money didn t compensated for the other
problems that they endured.

The Age of Absolutism in France
Absolutism in France
(Order #A2068670) European monarchs did not simply emerge on the scene as absolute rulers but
slowly acquired supreme power over a long period of time. This interest in becoming absolute rulers
infected the European monarchs, becoming particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th
century. As a result of the chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into
a centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th century a number of
European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute power over their kingdoms. One of the
largest and most populated countries in Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly
centralized governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. France has often been considered to
be one of the best examples of how a monarchy assumed centralized and absolute power; ushering in
the Age of Absolutism. Louis XIV of France is often referred to as the Sun King and is a prime
example of a European monarch who exercised absolute power. However, absolutism in France did
not begin with Louis XIV, but with his grandfather and founder of the Bourbon Dynasty, Henry IV. It
was Henry IV who began the centralization of power by keeping France at peace during most of his
reign by tolerating Protestants. During this time he also strengthened the monarchy s finances by
charging royal officials a fee to inherit their positions. He also lowered taxes in an effort to rebuild

Ouija Boards Exorcism
On a gloomy Tuesday night, a group of teenagers from George Mason University circled around an
Ouija board to find out what their final grade from a psychology class, Mystery, Madness, and Murder
would be. Soon after, the planchette moved, allowing them to communicate with evil spirits from
another dimension. Unfortunately, this communication led them into learning not only their final
grade, but also into being haunted by an evil spirit until the end of their lives. This, surprisingly, is a
very common practice in the United States. Even the International Exorcists Association (AIE) states
that the usage of Ouija boards increased the exorcism practices within the U.S. (cite). According to a
recent poll on LiveScience, 65% of Americans believe ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
According to Patricia Martinelli, in the late 19th century, an interest in spiritualism was strong both in
the United States and Europe as people wondered what happened to those who had died (Martinelli,
2009). Considering that the average human life span in that era, its not a surprise that people tried to
communicate with dead through several ways. Therefore, instead of being perceived as outside the
social norms, talking to dead was pretty common in the 19th century, which encouraged people to
search for new ways of contacting the dead. Furthermore, Ouija boards have their roots under this
branch of Spiritualism, which is a movement that began in the United States in the late 1840s, and was
led by mediums, who claimed to be intermediaries between the living and the dead (McCarthy, 2014).
In the 1880s, some curiosity seekers used homemade talking boards to divine answers from spirits
whom they assumed to be friendly (Martinelli, 2009). These types of talking boards became very
popular, and in 1890, Elijah Bond, Charles Kennard and William H.A. Maupin filed the first patent for
a game they called the Ouija board, which looked and operated much like the talking boards used
among; the patent was granted in 1891 (McCarthy,

Literary Analysis of Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening The Poem Stopping by the Woods
on a Snowy Evening is one of the classic poems penned down by Robert Frost. Looking at the poem
at first glance, it is simply about what is implied on its heading the speaker is stopping by the woods
on a snowy evening. The author describes vividly how the speaker, on his way home, stops by the
woods and takes in the mesmerizing scenery. He is clearly torn between staying at the woods longer
so he can continue enjoying the breathtaking scenery with the snow falling all around him or continue
on his journey. However, despite the compelling allure for him to move further into the woods and
experience a bit more of the deep and dark silence in the air, he decides to carry on with his journey
since he still has things to do. He says to himself but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I
sleep. But such a view of the poem is straightforward and somehow superficial. By focusing on the
literal meaning on the surface of the poem, most people fail to recognize the deep inclinations and
secret motivations that Frost conveys through his clever and intriguing word play that renders a
diversity of meaning. The poem must mean more than just a traveler appreciating the beauty of nature.
It might be a deep metaphor that represents something else which trumpets the love for nature. To get
a deeper understanding of this classic and phenomenal

Frederic Chopin as the Greatest Romantic Composer Essay
In the course of the development of music, many great composers have contributed their brilliance
towards the revolution of music. To be a great composer does not necessarily mean that they have
reached a vast amount of fame. However, it means that their compositions have ingenuity and value.
The melodies they have cleverly created have reached a point of worthiness in the world of music. For
it is the sweet harmonies a composer creates that defines who he is. One of these gifted composers
was Frederic Chopin, born on February 22, 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. Young Chopin was
already composing by the age of eight and as his musical career developed he became known as a
master of piano composition. Although he was often misunderstood ... Show more content on

With this clever innovation of harmonics, Chopin was highly ranked amongst other composers making
him an even greater influence towards the world of piano playing. Already rising up to becoming a
great icon, Chopin played a major role in the art of composing piano pieces. Chopin created his own
original technique that made his music so ingenious. He composed the Trois Nouvelles Etudes , the
three new studies. These studies showed his various new techniques that later influenced the
keyboard, and music itself (Hueneker 140). Chopin also constructed his own original pieces by
including different genres of music into one composition. For example, he would combine a polonaise
and a mazurka, two different Polish dances, one being slow while the other is lively. Frederic Chopin
also influenced composition with his genius use of the piano. He used the instrument to its fullest
effect to create a beautiful and expressive piece (Politoske, Daniel T.). His creativity was prominently
brought out this way as he was able to produce melody and harmony (Samson 4). As a matter of fact,
Chopin reached fame for his various piano compositions rather than his orchestral pieces (Politoske,
Daniel T.). His arrangements utilized the piano in the most unique way which is why other musicians
and his audiences admired his music. Arthur Rubinstein stated that, ...all possible expressions are
found in his compositions and are all sung by him upon his instrument, (Hueneker 91). Even

Application Of Dgs For Local Network Stability
Introduction: Due to increased concern on energy crisis and environmental issues, power industry is
shifting their power production from conventional power sources to renewable energy sources, and is
incorporating it into the grid utility in the form of distributed generations (DGs). The application of
DGs can enhance reliability and stability of the local network, and can reach benefit to the supplier by
reducing system losses and investment on a new transmission line due to increased power
consumption [1]. Power generation in the form of DGs for local and grid utility can create issues as
many as it may solve. Therefore, a microgrid concept is evolved to coordinate among sources, loads,
and energy storage devices for maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Inverters are able to supply controlled voltage and frequency depending on the control algorithms [3].
The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore,
specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5].
There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding
complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular
due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and
reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV)
transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations.
Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable
energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics
of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are
significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Some of the
issues, which are a promised field for future research, are described shortly below:
Distribution network: In a LV distribution network, the well known P/f droop control requires much
more effort than the P/V droop because predominated resistive network that naturally connects active

statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students
encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn t
control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have. We
ll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities have
lower completion rates than others, Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and American
Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40% (Pleskac). So you cannot choose your ethnic
background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and
Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost 6%
more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot control
and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere with
studies. Coming from a different ethnic background they are more ..likely to come from lower
socioeconomic backgrounds, which makes them vulnerable to family crises ..which can be difficult

Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. John Buford led Union troops to Gettysburg and when he arrived him and
his men were informed that the Southern troops that they were looking for had just left the town. This
was the beginning of one of the bloodiest battles in all of history. From the outside of Gettysburg the
Southern General James Pettigrew reported to his superiors that he had visited shops in Gettysburg in
order to buy the shoes that his soldiers direly needed. When he was in town he saw the advancement

divisions. By mid June, all of these divisions were on the move North to the North. During their travel
up North, they did have a lot of random battles with Northern troops, however they continued on their
way almost steamrolling over all the Northern troops. On June 21, however one of the divisions that
was led by General Ewell, entered into Chambersburg Pennsylvania. A few days later, the other two
divisions arrived in Pennsylvania. They took food and horses from the farms that scattered around the
countryside. One of the Confederate soldiers wrote to his wife explaining that they were doing all of
this to pay back these people for some of the damage that they have done us even though we are not
doing them half as bad as they have done us. The soldier added, We will have to fight here, and when

somewhat scattered, however General Lee was not even worried about this. He felt safe, mainly
because he believed that their enemy General Hooker s Union army had yet to cross over the Potomac

upon reaching the age of majority or when they have graduated from high school (Craft, 2017, Aging
Out). Many of these children have not found permanency with an adoptive family ... or they have not
been able to return to their biological parents (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). A child typically ages out at 18
years, but some states have extended services beyond this age because so many young adults are just
not ready to be thrust out into the world on their own at such a young age (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). If
a foster parent chooses to continue parenting the foster child once they have aged out of the system,
they are able to as long as the foster youth is okay with this. If an individual continues fostering a
child, they will no longer receive money from the state. Foster care is intended to be a temporary, safe
living arrangement for children whose parents for some reason cannot adequately care for them. The

While I was never within the foster system, four of my siblings were. In 2016 my foster sister aged out
of the foster system. She was one of the lucky ones. The family she was living with wanted to
continue housing her and being part of her family despite the fact that they were not going to adopt
her. She was within the foster system for about four years and then she was considered to have aged
out. The family she is living with fought for her after she was no longer within the system. They were
able to extend her foster care until she turns 21. Her foster parents are still in her life and will be at
least until she turns 21. Before this placement, she was terrified of what was going to happen once she
reached the age of 18. She did not like the foster family she was living with and believed that they
would kick her out once she turned

Ex Conscientious Objectors In Ww1
Bread was not rationed, but by law had to be sold by weight and not by the loaf. Even so, the
government took steps to decrease its consumption further by banning the sale of bread until twelve
hours after it had been baked. The government decided that fresh bread was very difficult to cut thinly
so, if everyone cut their loaves in thick slices, they would consume more. Additionally, the more
appetising taste of fresh baked bread could encourage people to eat it immoderately. Plans were put in
place to substitute the established white loaf with a national loaf made from wholemeal grain. It is a
loaf we are familiar with today but in 1918 many thought the taste and colour unappetising, and some
blamed it for a variety of digestive problems. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At the outbreak of war I looked upon taking life as a horrible and wicked thing something I, with my
religious training, could never do, and had genuine conscientious objections to becoming a soldier for
that reason, but as the weeks went by and instance after instance of Hun brutality the fruits of
militarism became common knowledge I had often to take myself to task. Before Xmas, 1914, the
truth dawned on me I had been selfish ignoring the fact that thousands of fine, brave fellows had
already given their lives good Christian men most of them and presumed to put my conscientious
objections before my country s need and the cause of God. The Germans have relinquished all claim
to humanity and have gravitated to the level of vermin even conscientious objectors must grant this.
Would they permit any other kind of vermin to do the same amount of evil and create as much misery
without attempting to exterminate it? A few months of active service teaches one a great deal, things
that once counted diminish to details of no importance; a man s reasoning power is broadened, he is
more balanced when coming to conclusions, and he becomes more reliable if more silent. In warfare,
particularly at that stage when a man meets a man, killing is merely a matter of self preservation your
opponent the aggressor is determined to rob you of your life the only effective way to prevent this is to
take his if you do not attempt to do so then you are guilty of self murder. When on lookout duty in a
first line trench a soldier quickly takes aim and deliberately shoots the enemy through the head (the
only visible part). Should he not do so, or should

The State And State Sovereignty
Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility to the
effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse interests
within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age old and
fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be said that before the question
of how the state and state sovereignty (popularly led by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes) gained
traction, the question of who must govern the state and how that governor must be chosen had already
enjoyed some dissection. Plato s classical concept of the Philosopher King for instance, buttresses the
latter assertion. To Plato, the reins of supreme power in the state had to be given to an authority that
wielded an appreciable grasp of philosophy. To him, if a state wanted to choose a leader that could
best ensure the wellbeing of all, that person must be a philosopher as the philosopher would know the
interests of the people and pursue it accordingly. Plato also suggested that the Philosopher King had to
surround himself with wise men for the purposes of seeking counsel. Aristotle criticized Plato s theory
and doubted that it was viable for one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with
so much power but would not abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has
recorded succinct inputs from many other thinkers and scholars. In

Exploring The Theme Of Happiness In Finding Nemo
Finding Your Inner Happiness
How does Dory from Finding Nemo (and now Finding Dory) manage to be such a cheerful fish? She
actually has a pretty sad life, which contains short term memory loss, and no family or friends (until
she finds them). Still, she manages to keep up her alacrity and spirit.
One might argue that she is able to be happy because she is a fictional character without any human
stress. As true as that may be, there are people filled with Dory like zeal who are real and have human
stresses and obstacles. So, how do these happy heroes keep up their positivity?
They are able to enjoy life because they can find their inner happiness. Serenity that doesn t rely on
anyone or any specific things. Sounds super corny, right? Oh, inner happiness. She sounds like one of
those hippies, you might say. I would reply with an I DO! ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination
Elizabethan Era Clothing
The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when
everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles
which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors,
sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was
equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the
time of beauty and fascination. In fact, during the Elizabethan time clothing reflects mood, values and
the person s statue in the society. So fashion at that time was the primary indicator of one s social
statue and the differences in styling between upper class and lower class were noticeable and very
easy distinguished, in terms of fabric, colors, and design.
During the Elizabethan time period, in order to understand a person s life style including clothes, we
must first understand how the society at that time worked. The Elizabethan society was divided into
three classes, first upper class including nobles and royalty, second middle class or hard working class,
and finally lower class or peasants. The availability of fabrics, colors, and designs were extremely
limited for lower class compared to upper class who has unlimited access to a variety of expansive
fabrics and colors. These divisions in clothing were stated in the Sumptuary Laws or also known as

Renaissance Influence On The Historical And Social...
Renaissance Influence on the Historical and Social Significance of Self Portraiture During the
Renaissance, artists were acquiring status and the technical means to create a new genre of art called
self portraiture (Bond). Portraits are defined as having a likeness of a specific individual (Adams).
However, self portraits do not only have a likeness of the artist but also a sense of psychology that
connects the viewer to the artist. This connection gives the self portrait a depth of complexity that
even portraits do not always achieve. Following the development of self portraiture, one must
transverse the development of portraiture. Then one must follow self portraits connection to
portraiture and self portraits own unique development. Then one must recognize the influence of the
society on the value of the artist and their artworks. In order to understand the significance of the
development of self portraiture, one must have some familiarity with the history of portraiture and its
development as a whole. Portraiture is a facet of the artistic community that retains a deep history
from multiple ancient cultures. In Ancient Egyptian, around fifteen thousand B.C., artists carved out
portraits, mostly of the pharaohs. Also, many of the portraits created were meant to reside in the
patron s tomb upon his or her death. These portraits or funerary statues provided a physical form for
the spirit to use in the afterlife (Walker, Appendix 1). Around two hundred B.C., Romans seemed

Theme Of First Love By William Clare
William Shakespeare s sonnet 116 The Marriage of True Minds is one of his most famous poem that
he ever written. The main theme of the poem is about true love and showing how the author
disseminated his thoughts about the elevated quality of love.
The author started his first quatrain with the statement Let me not to the marriage of true minds . With
the declaration, the readers may surmise that the poem is referring to a married couple. Yet, the author
is metaphorically used the phrase to indicate the theme of the poem true love. Importantly, we noticed

would be gone for two to three days at a time. My mother was nearly kidnapped. The only reason they
were saved was because the maids of the house came out and started hitting the men. She was unable

A day before they left, he told his daughters that they we going to leave the country. My mother did
not want to leave to America but rather with her friends to South America. It was ideal to take refuge

Streetcar Named Desire Critical Analysis
The second day of the show, On October 11th, 2017. I had an opportunity of seeing one of Tennessee
Williams s playwright, A Streetcar Named Desire, directed by Stephen Thomas. Performed excellently
at Tarrant County College Northeast Playhouse. The purpose of my visit was to learn about all aspects
of theatre, from basic acting skills to technical designing. Also, this was my first time attended to
watch a live performance by the college student.
A Streetcar Named Desire is the story about of a girl named Blanche DuBois, travels from the town of
Laurel to live with her sister in the New Orleans French Quarter. Her sister, Stella live in a two room
flat with her brother in law, Stanley Kowalski. She finds Stanley vulgar, boisterous, and dominant
husband. However, Stanley does not like her presence and thinks that Blanche comes with a secret.
Unfortunately, they do not like each other. Stanley feels that while she is staying with them, Blanche
tries to convince Stella that he is loud and rough as common. He wants Blanche to leave, so he gives
her a bus ticket back to Laurel for her birthday. Later on, Stanley gossips to Stella that he has gathered
on Blanche, telling her about what did Blanche do in the past. At the end of the play, he brutally rapes
Blanche, while Stella is at the hospital with their first child. Blanche becomes psychotic crisis by
destroying her both physically and mentally from what Stanley did to her. Blanche tells the truth about
Stanley s assault to Stella, but her sister disbelieves her. Blanche has suffered a complete mental
breakdown and is to be committed to a mental hospital.
The genre of the play is the domestic drama that mentions the concept of human desire in the form of
an adult content and situations. A technique such as physical acting, suspense, and the violence are
used throughout the play. All these techniques need to be applied successfully in order to create the
atmosphere intended. By using the technique of suspense, it builds up a state of mental insecurity,
uncertainty or excitement within the person. Alongside this adding the technique of anticipation gives
the audience the impression that something is going to happen, but didn t know what or when
therefore building

Importance Of Credible Sources
A source is the place or resource in which knowledge has been obtained. When looking for sources to
use in a research paper you need to be able to determine whether or not a source is reliable and
credible. It is important to use reliable and credible sources so that the information you use in a
document you are writing is accurate and will not affect you in a negative way, by either getting a bad
grade in school or just looking unintelligent to a colleague.
A credible source is a source of good quality that a reader can trust to be truthful and believable,

When using ethos you create a sense of authority to the reader that what you are saying is reliable. For
example, in commercials athletes advertise athletic products, while models advertise beauty products.
This shows a reader that professional people in a certain field backup a product in a positive way.
Ethos is also used when someone uses actions that a person has completed in the past, to help
persuade people that they have experience and are reliable. When using logos you can cite statistics,
analogies, and historical context about a topic to show you are a credible source and that the
information you are using can be proven with evidence. It enhances a rational and fact based
reasoning on a topic. If you use pathos and appeal to the more emotional side of a topic, a reader could
immediately identify your source as bias, as it uses a human s sense of emotion to get someone to
agree with a topic.
A credible and reliable source can be determined through characteristics in spelling/grammar, citations
and examples used within a document, and the author. Once a reliable and credible source has been
identified you can use it in any research paper that will help improve your skills as a writer, and make
your writing as reliable as the sources that allowed you to write it. When creating a reliable and
credible source use ethos and logos to help support your claim, to enhance your authority and provide

Bourdieu On Social Class
This essay will look at the conceptual tools that Bourdieu employed to explain the interactions of class
and status on social and economical inequalities. Bourdieu uses conceptual tools that consist of the
notion habitus, and the identification of three forms of capital: economic, cultural, social and the
concept of field. Bourdieu (1930 2002) was interested in the systems that society used to reproduce,
and the economic and social factors that permitted the stability of class. Unlike Marx, Bourdieu, alike
Weber, believed that the exploited and exploiter dichotomy could not be explained by economics
alone. Bourdieu s theory on social class mirrors much of Weber s theory of the influence of non
economic subjective factors such as status, knowledge, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Firstly, economic capital is defined by Marx and Weber as the economic assets held by an individual,
such as property and labour (Bourdieu, 1986 p.46). Secondly, cultural capital refers to non economical
social assets that promote social mobility, these assets can include, education, intellect and credentials
which operate as resources similar to that of economic capital, to create class hierarchies based on
status (Bourdieu, 1986 pp.47 48). Cultural capital has three subtypes, embodied, objectified and
institutionalised. Embodied cultural capital consists of elements that have been passively inherited or
consciously acquired, such as an accent or dialect. Objectified cultural capital consists of ownership of
physical objects that can be transmitted both for economic and cultural capital, owning a luxury car or
painting collection are examples of objectified cultural capital. Lastly institutionalised cultural capital,
involves credentials and qualifications which can be a representation of an individual cultural
competence and authority (Bourdieu, 1986 pp.50 51). Thirdly, social capital refers to an array of social
networks such as friends, memberships and groups formed consciously or unconsciously (Bourdieu,
1986 pp.51 52). These networks are highly important and are representative of a social position. For
example, the Old Boy s Union is a deliberate cultivation of social networks within the educational
sphere, that are nearly exclusively composed of the dominant/bourgeoisies class. This hierarchical
social network then provides enhanced access and opportunities to a range of highly sought after
social positions (Habibis, 2015

The fact that risk based auditing encourages auditors to have integrated knowledge of businesses
makes the whole process of auditing less daunting as it used to be. Other benefits of following the risk

Disadvantages of risk based audit approach (150 Words) risk based audit methodology is inextricably
linked to the risk management framework. During Stage 1 it allows a conclusion on the risk maturity
of the organisation. If this is not high, it provides internal audit with an opportunity to report that fact
promptly to management and the audit committee so that they can take immediate action. While this
allows the internal audit activity to provide value to its organisation, RBIA is a challenging prospect.
Organisations with a poor level of risk maturity may be that way because the managers and directors
do not accept that a good risk management framework is an essential element of a sound system of
internal control. Internal audit may need to undertake a longer term programme of activity to

Till s story brought attention to the racism still prevalent in the south in 1955, even after attempts

into the darkness and inequality that dominated the south during the civil rights movement. Emmett s

The controversy could be found across the nation, but the north was less subject to the intense racism
that was still found and fought for in the south. This change in environment and lifestyle in the
northern city of Chicago allowed Emmett Till to interact with white men and women regularly and

Female Roles In Dystopian Literature
In a research done by Mcclantoc (2016), it can be deduced that the main ingredient of a good
dystopian literature are the main protagonists who induce some kind of social change in their society
or world. This applies regardless of the two types of dystopia; one that is apparent or in the guise of a
utopia. In dystopian literature, the main characters are the average person. They are usually male
characters. At the beginning of the story, they noticed the flaws in their society and question or
disagree with it. The characters are devised and carefully laid out that they eventually show initiative
to induce change in their society or world. Yet, the main female character who is included in the story
alongside the main character serves as a trigger or guide to initiate the main character to make a
change for their dystopic society or world. Despite how hard the female character provides aid to the
main male character, she does not rise to be in the spotlight in the story. The theory by Gottelieb
(2001) observed the criterion of how the female protagonist is viewed and portrayed in dystopian
literature. The theory mocked the existence of the female characters in the story. It seems that these
female characters only have two tasks in their story. They serve as the trigger to directly or indirectly
start the main character s initiative; to only step aside later and let the male hero take over and bring
victory. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dystopian literature is becoming one of the most popular genre among young adult (YA) literature.
Gradually, more female main characters emerged and take over the role of the main male protagonist.
This is when Linh Cinder from The Lunar Chronicles comes in, serving as a good example of a female
protagonist, setting a new set of parameters for the new protagonists of dystopian

Factors Affecting The Generic Drug Industry
Spending growth in generic drugs has slowed considerably from 42% in 2011 to 10% currently. IMS
Health predicts the growth to maximize at 90% of the prescription market (Salazar, 2015). Though
there is not much room between generic drugs currently representing 83% of prescription drugs and
the predicted 90% maximum, the next twelve months appear a safe investment period for the generic
drug industry when considering the currently growth rate. Many factors influence success in the
generic drug industry; among the influences is the need for an alternative to higher priced brand name
drugs. This was the original purpose of generic drugs. Initially, generics offered a considerable price
benefit over brand drugs with a reduction of at least 60% for specialty drugs and 80% for oral
prescriptions (Taylor, 2015). Recently, the rising cost of generics has drawn much scrutiny. Many
factors contribute to the increased cost of generics. According to Salazar, increased product quality
regulations, less new products entering the market, inflation, and the increased number of former
prescription drugs being offered over the counter have all lead to higher generic drug pricing. An
additional motive for the increased cost of generics may be pure greed. Price hikes as exorbitant as
5000% have occurred in recent months in some generic drugs. Taylor attributes the price hikes to the
increased need for innovation and the lack of competition in generic drug manufacturers. These

The Call for the Gaelic League Essay
The Call for the Gaelic League
What would the United States be like if Americans couldn t practice their customs, culture, or even
appreciate their heritage? Granted the United States is a melting pot for several ethnicities, but some
native countries and cultures have faced this type of dilemma. The Spanish influence on the Aztecs
and the English on Native Americans are two examples of this imperialistic move. If only these
cultures had a strong network of men and women who devoted their lives towards keeping their
culture and history alive for future generations. The Gaelic League was based upon this definition.

The congestion led to the activation of the Irish Poor laws in 1838 by Great Britain s Queen Victoria.
These laws were enforced in an attempt to promote emigration to areas like the United States and
Australia. All the outcomes of the Famine were not necessarily negative. One such incentive was
modernization. According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the
tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). The demand for an
institution of education was in order.
To answer the demand would eventually lead to, The Gaelic League, the dominant institution of the
third revival, (Hutchinson 484) with the second revival being the Irish Protestant/ Catholic liberation
of 1829. With the loss of so many people, religion became a large part of the community. Such a
devastating event left the Irish vulnerable to outside influences, especially the British. A powerful
nation could easily push its culture, society, and government on a weak country like Ireland in the mid
to late 1800s. To counter the British, religion took on a stronghold on Irish living. The Catholic
Church, through the work of dedicated priests throughout the southern regions of Ireland, grew in
popularity and even united small rural towns. This action rebuilt trust in communities and aided the
most devastated of areas. The major Christian groups, Irish Protestants and Catholics, would be

Theme Of In Our Time By Ernest Hemingway
In Our Time: When Playing the Macho Man Leads to Stage Fright Ernest Hemingway s collection of
short stories, In Our Time, portrays multiple examples of men trying to prove their masculinity in
exorbitant manners, only to be met with disgrace. Thomas Strychacz points out in his essay,
Dramatizations of Manhood in Hemingway s In Our Time and The Sun Also Rises that Hemingway s
male characters ...sense of self rests precariously upon the audience s decision to validate or reject
ritual gestures toward manhood, (Strychacz 247). This concept reoccurs multiple times throughout the
book, particularly in Nick Adam s father and the former fighting champion Ad Francis. In both cases,
the men act in extravagant ways as a method to show their dominance, yet when placed in front of a
new audience, it leads to their defeat and humiliation. Nick Adams father, a doctor, is one of the first
characters Hemingway introduces who behaves in an exaggerated way to assert his authority. In
Indian Camp , we see Nick s father perform an emergency caesarean section on an Indian woman who
had been in labor for several days with a breached baby. In this story, the Doctor is shown as the
brave, masculine hero . The woman s screams do not bother him, and he does not notice how
gruesome and traumatizing this scene is to his young son. In fact, he finds the experience rather
thrilling. Post operating, it says the doctor ...was feeling exalted and talkative as football players

History of Internet Essay examples
Without a doubt, the Internet is undergoing a major transition as it experiences a tremendous influx of
new users. Due to the anarchic, distributed nature of the net, we cannot even begin to enumerate the
population of the Internet or its growth. As more of the world s population moves on line, new
concerns will arise which did not confront the earlier generations. The new culture will demand
different resources, services and technology than the old generations expected and used. Already we
can witness a clash between the emergent culture and the entrenched culture. The largest conflicts
occurring now are about sharing resources, the impending commercialization of the net, and the
growing problem of computer crime.

It is only in the past year or two that we have begun to see the explosion of the new generation on the
Internet. Businesses have begun connecting themselves to the net, especially with the prospect of the
NSFNET backbone changing hands to permit commercial traffic. Public access nets run by
communities or businesses are springing up in cities all over the world, bringing in users who know
little about computers and are more interested in the entertainment and information they can glean
from the net.
Commercial providers like America Online and Compuserve are beginning to open gateways from
their exclusive services to the open Internet, specifically allowing their users to access email, netnews
and soon ftp and telnet services. The explosion of BBSs and the shared Fidonet software has brought
many users who were previously unable to get an account through a university to the world of email
and netnews. At this point, anyone with a computer and a modem can access these most basic
services. Several state s, such as Maryland, have begun efforts to connect all their residents to the net,
often through their library system. The city of Cambridge,
MA now offers access to the world wide web for short segments of time in its public libraries, and
even several progressive coffeehouses in the San Francisco Bay area and soon in the Boston area are
offering public net access.

Ginóbili did not start in a single playoff game as he did in 2003, his playoff statistics improved

The superior capabilities of knowledge management systems provide an opportunity for the business
to engage the most effective components and recognize the importance of communication to make
informed, accurate decisions (McGrath, 2001). This system can organize the company s knowledge
resources, knowledge obtaining, organizing, and applying to make a sound routine the will enforce
effectiveness (Niu, 2008). The dynamic function of knowledge management to create, capture, and
apply knowledge to achieve an organization s objective will allow them to be more profitable and
successful (Zucker, 1986). In addition to increasing profits, the system can be also used to reduce
costs and enhance research and development (DeTienne Jackson, 2001). With all of these advantages,
it would be wasteful for a company to not employ knowledge management. As seen in the Discovery
Communications, Inc. example, the company can attribute their new productivity levels and increase
in ease of securing documents to the knowledge management system that put into place by Carefree
Technology. Like Discovery Communications, Inc., knowledge management is so popular today
because companies can collect, process and share knowledge to ignite employees creativity which in
turn will make the business grow. Wenhong and Jianhua (2009) explained the core of knowledge
management is to convert company s knowledge resources into an increased company

In 2001 there was a movie released called Black Hawk Down. This movie was based on a true story of
the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. This battle takes place in Somalia. The movie depicts this battle
pretty accurately from who died and the mistake that were made in the mission plan. The operation
was supposed to be easy and go smoothly but like most plans things didn t go as they planned. If there
wasn t any mistakes made during this operation then there wouldn t have been a movie made after it.

the pilot Michael Durant was captured by the mob and taken prisoner. He was later released after the

and Malaysia. On the Somalia side there was al Qaeda. The strength of the UN over powered the
Somalian power because the UN had 8 Black Hawk helicopters and 8 Little Bird helicopters. They
also had 12 vehicles to use. Now Somalia outnumbered the UN forces. Somalia had 4,000 6,000

battle. The U.S. had 18 killed, 73 wounded, and 1 captured. Malaysia had 1 killed and 7 wounded.
Pakistan had 1 killed and 2 wounded. Now the SNA militia states it only had a range of 315 to 500

NCAA Rivalry And Analysis
Throughout history American college sports has been on the rise, attracting people from all walks of
life through the lure of intense passion and competition that is demonstrated by athletes and fans alike.
At the centre of the immense success of American college sports is its governing organization, known
as the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which has now become one of the most
recognizable organizations in all of sports. As per their mission statement, the NCAA s purpose is, To
be an integral part of higher education and to focus on the development of our student athletes.
(NCAA, 2016) With their recent growth, the NCAA has taken the popularization of college sports

Up until now the NCAA was able to get away with keeping college athletes under the category of
amateur meaning that they would not share in the portion of the profits, as that would compromise
their amateur status. Recently, the NCAA was challenged with and lost a lawsuit (O Bannon vs. the
NCAA) filed by former UCLA basketball star Ed O Bannon. The court ruled, Requires that the NCAA
s caps on compensation must at least reflect the full cost of school attendance (rather than merely
tuition and supplies). The court also held that $5,000 trust funds would be acceptable, so long as the
revenue was distributed equally to all players on a team, but rejected direct endorsements as
inconsistent with the valid objectives of the NCAA. (Lemieux, 2014) This ruling will have a big
impact on the business model and structure of the NCAA going forward. According to experts, The
impact of the ruling will not be radical in the short term as scholarships will become more valuable
and players will receive some indirect benefits from licensing of their names and images. In the long
run this ruling will eventually lead to the collapse of the NCAA s business model as undermining
amateurism will undermine fan interest. (Lemieux, 2014) As mentioned in the statement the NCAA
will have to make changes to its amateur rules,

Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow
He once told me that depression felt like a shadow. Everywhere he went, it was right there with him.
The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and the
stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. With depression, night only
made the shadow stronger. He described depression as a broken feeling; he had cracks within himself
where sadness always seemed to settle. He had told me when I first met him that I would never
understand the things that he was feeling.
At the time, our circumstances had us deemed an unconventional couple . He was a few years older

Its sad to think that in some circumstances happiness can be neither pursued or compromised by
oneself. Its sad that the most wonderful people get stuck with the shittiest of circumstances. I knew
that everyday was a struggle, and I knew that everyday he pushed harder and harder to free himself of
the shackles of sadness. The pills that he took were not his only efforts to overcome this. He had

Sophocles Oedipus The King
The renowned Greek philosopher, Aristotle, is widely known for his theories in mathematics, physics,
and politics. However, he is also known for establishing ideas in the field of literature, such as the
concept of tragedy and the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal. This ancient
concept and theory are still highly discussed and used to analyze numerous pieces of literature to this
day. One piece that could be considered as an ideal tragedy is the play Oedipus the King written by
Sophocles. In this play, Sophocles utilizes the concept of tragedy as well the theory of the importance
of scenes of recognition and reversal to create a setting, tone, and mood throughout the play. Oedipus,
the mythical king of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
An example of the use of fear to bring emotion to the reader in Oedipus the King is when the city of
Thebes is suffering from a plague that destroys fields of crops as well as the fertility of its woman. A
blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a blight is on our
women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly pestilence, is on our town
(Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is asking the people of Thebes why
they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that there is a plague going on in the city and
they want an end to it. It is later known that the plague will never end until the murderer of Laius, the
king of Thebes before Oedipus, is found. Oedipus vows to find the murderer, which eventually leads
to him finding out he was the one who killed his father and married his own mother, thus fulfilling his
fate. This extracts pity from the reader, for all the character tried their hardest to run from the
prophecy but in the end, it still catches them. Lastly, tragedy can be seen throughout the entire play, as
readers see the steady downfall of a hero, who was heavily influenced by his hubris or pride. Aristotle
s ideal tragic hero is one the must exceed the average man intellectually, physically and mentally.
Oedipus not only travels throughout the city defeating numerous foes, but eventually becomes the
king of Thebes. Not only that, according to

  • 2. Clams Are Great Pollution Detectors By Susan Linville In the past, clams have been used to locate sources of pollution in bodies of water. They get their food, as well as performing gas exchange, through the process of filter feeding (Linville). This entails taking water inside of their shells and filtering it through their gills to trap food particles and exchange gas (Linville). When doing this, they bring in the food particles they need to survive and have the potential to bring in other materials such as toxic substances or pollutants (Linville). This also allows for the clams to clean the water, improving water quality (Stanford). When the clams bring in these substances, scientists are able to then analyze the tissue of the gills and find out which substances they brought in. This ability ... However, it can take up to a year to have any effect on cleaning the water (Safewater). Activated carbon filtration bring pollutants through its system and collects them, but it needs to be changed frequently, have the possibility of taking a long time to work, and are very expensive (Safewater). Bioremediation is using microorganism to digest contaminants, but again has the possibility of taking a long time, yet is very inexpensive (Safewater). Phytoremediation involves using plants and trees to remove contaminants with their roots and is all natural, but it takes a very long time and the various plants or trees that are introduced can have negative effects on the ecosystems (Safewater). Wetlands and algae is similar to phytoremediation and is already used in wetland habitats for the same purpose of pollution removal. Lastly, chemical oxidation uses oxidants to change harmful chemicals into less harmful chemicals in a semi timely manner, but it is expensive. Comparatively, Asiatic clams are easy to collect due to their prominence in many bodies of water from past human transport and easy to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. A Vegetarian Diet Is The Best Possible Diet For A Person... A vegan diet is the best possible diet for a person because it prevents diseases. In Sarah Barns view, Vegans and vegetarians typically have... a lower risk of death from heart disease, and lower overall cancer rates. Science and research confirms that you don t need meat to be healthy at all, in fact statistics point to quite the opposite ( Live Longer, Boost Immunity, Slim Down: 10 Reasons Why You Should Go Vegan In 2015, Daily Express par. 3). Basically, Sarah Barns is saying that having a vegan or vegetarian diet will decrease the chances of dying from heart disease. This demonstrates that dying from heart disease is prevented by having a lack of unhealthy fat in the body. Unhealthy fat gets trapped in the arteries, which clogs them. When the arteries are clogged, it can lead to a heart attack or a stroke. Clearly, having a vegan diet will contribute to the prevention of heart disease. Hope Warshaw, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists and Certified Diabetes Educator states, A study of nearly 100,000 members of the Seventh day Adventist church, which promotes a vegetarian diet, showed that the vegetarians had a lower rate of type 2 than nonvegetarians. ( Should You Go Vegetarian? The Benefits of a Plant Based Diet for People with Diabetes par. 3). Also, Michael J. Orlich M.D., assistant professor of preventive medicine at Loma Linda University in California said, The closer people follow a vegan diet, the more they stay at a healthy weight and prevent type 2 ... This notion is the core of James MacGregor Burns classic definition of leadership as leaders inducing followers to act for certain goals that represent the values and the motivations the wants and needs, the aspirations and expectations of both leaders and followers. Successful leadership inspires the members of the organization to embrace shared values and to move together toward shared objectives.4 Rowing a boat is sometimes offered as the metaphor: if several individuals try to row a boat while out of sync and with each attempting to steer in a different direction, much energy will be expended with little progress made. A successful leader (in the metaphor, the coxswain), however, inspires the rowers to stroke in sync in support of a common direction, which will cause the boat to go farther and faster toward the desired destination. 2. The literature on leadership, both academic and self improvement, is now voluminous. A few of the classics in the field include JAMES MAcGREGOR BURNS, LEADERSHIP (1978); JOHN WILLIAM GARDNER, ON LEADERSHIP (1990); PETER F. DRUCKER. • 6. Gatorade Lab Report Background The growth and survival of a plant depends on the reactions that occur internally called photosynthesis. Photosynthesis is a reaction that captures the sun s energy and converts it, water, and carbon dioxide into glucose, with a byproduct of oxygen. Glucose is a sugar that provides energy to allow for a plant to grow and live. This experiment is to test how photosynthesis can be sped up with a home solution. The variable being changed in this experiment is the solution that the plant is being given. In this instance, some of the plants will be given Gatorade, rather than water. The question being asked is, How well will a solution found in the home affect plant growth? My hypothesis is that, if a plant is given Gatorade instead of water, then it will grow more quickly than if the plant is just given water. This is because of the components of Gatorade. Gatorade contains water, a key component of plant growth. But, because Gatorade contains various vitamins, sugars, and electrolytes, the plant should already be supplied with some of the products of photosynthesis, so the plant should produce sugars at a normal rate, plus have the additional bonus from the Gatorade. Procedure Four cups of equal size were filled with one cup of garden soil. Lima beans were planted at an equal depth (one inch as instructed on the bag). Every day, for 33 days, each plant received one half tablespoon of the specified liquid. Beans one and two got one half tablespoon of water each, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Does Globalization Diminish Cultural Differences Giorgia Frizzi, 23rd July 2010 Globalization, Localization, Glocalization Research Paper. Does globalization weaken cultural diversity or does it foster it? Effects of Globalization in Cultural differentiation 1. Introduction. As some of us may know, the term globalize started being used in the modern times. However globalization as an idea has been brought up since even before the 1500 s when people started forming connections between communities, and therefore creating forms of communication, migration and such between these. And it is probably from these examples that in the modern era we came to call it Globalization which is known for being a process of integration between cultures, societies, economies, etc. Nonetheless, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Webster s Third New International Dictionary (Gove, 2000) defines culture as the total pattern of human behavior and its products embodied in speech, action, and artifacts and dependent upon man s capacity for learning and transmitting knowledge to succeeding generations. I believe that nowadays culture is no longer perceived as some sort of knowledge system we got from our ancestors. Indeed many anthropologists and socialists now perceive culture as the ideas, attributes and expectations that change as people react to changing situations. Indeed, in the 21st century , technology has increased the velocity of social change. For instance the internet and fast communication in general are pretty much destroying cultural boundaries and they are creating the possibility of a global culture. In these regards McLuhan (1962: p.31) coined the term global village in the 60s referring to the globalization of media. McLuhan shows how the world has turned into a village thanks to electric technology that brings all social functions together and makes us all more aware of our global responsibility. On the other hand it has been considerably argued that globalization might instead foster cultural diversity and give more space to local cultures. Roland Robertson suggests by using the term Glocalization , that locality and with it cultural diversity may be strengthened thanks to globalization. More specifically he describes for instance the process of a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 8. Federic Taylor and Taylorism Essays Federic Taylor and Taylorism Many people and companies have rejected the theory of scientific management that Frederic Taylor developed in the early 1900 s because it wasn t working effectively for the companies. However as Rober Kanigel make clear in his biography of Frederick Taylor One Best Way the problem wasn t with the theory of scientific management , but with the Frederic Taylor and his attempts at managing his own theories. Frederic Taylor was an engineer, a perfectionist; he didn t have personality skills necessary to be an effective manager or leader. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Taylor did treat people like machines as he worked them as hard as possible, leaving them with no energy at the end of the day for leisure activities. His stop watch techniques making sure they met the time goals resulted in the feeling of a large amount of pressure. Taylor s personality was of being a meticulous and Machiavellian, obsessive about details and overbearing. He was therefore one of the worst types of people to have as a manager is a very meticulous person as he was be very demanding and never pleased with the work. Taylor used what many people call a Theory X style of management, one that threats employees poorly and like machines. He assumed that people had of no initiative their own to work hard and were only capable of what they were during then and nothing else. To fully understand how poorly Taylor implemented his theory, one only needs to look at the companies he worked at; Bethlehem Steel is a prime example under Taylor s management. Each task had an instruction card, which laid everything out in black and white and eliminated the need for the employees to think, and each task was figured out to the fraction of a second, which wore out employees faster than other systems this is not the life that people want to work for. While the Taylor system did pay more, employees did not feel that the money didn t compensated for the other problems that they endured. An example at the Link Belt Foundry of Bethlehem ... • 9. The Age of Absolutism in France Absolutism in France (Order #A2068670) European monarchs did not simply emerge on the scene as absolute rulers but slowly acquired supreme power over a long period of time. This interest in becoming absolute rulers infected the European monarchs, becoming particularly acute during the religious wars of the 16th century. As a result of the chaos and destruction, the kings of Europe began to consolidate power into a centralized system with the monarch at the top. By the beginning of the 17th century a number of European countries had monarchs who exercised absolute power over their kingdoms. One of the largest and most populated countries in Western Europe during this time was France, which slowly centralized governmental power in the hands of a single monarch. France has often been considered to be one of the best examples of how a monarchy assumed centralized and absolute power; ushering in the Age of Absolutism. Louis XIV of France is often referred to as the Sun King and is a prime example of a European monarch who exercised absolute power. However, absolutism in France did not begin with Louis XIV, but with his grandfather and founder of the Bourbon Dynasty, Henry IV. It was Henry IV who began the centralization of power by keeping France at peace during most of his reign by tolerating Protestants. During this time he also strengthened the monarchy s finances by charging royal officials a fee to inherit their positions. He also lowered taxes in an effort to rebuild ... • 10. Ouija Boards Exorcism On a gloomy Tuesday night, a group of teenagers from George Mason University circled around an Ouija board to find out what their final grade from a psychology class, Mystery, Madness, and Murder would be. Soon after, the planchette moved, allowing them to communicate with evil spirits from another dimension. Unfortunately, this communication led them into learning not only their final grade, but also into being haunted by an evil spirit until the end of their lives. This, surprisingly, is a very common practice in the United States. Even the International Exorcists Association (AIE) states that the usage of Ouija boards increased the exorcism practices within the U.S. (cite). According to Patricia Martinelli, in the late 19th century, an interest in spiritualism was strong both in the United States and Europe as people wondered what happened to those who had died (Martinelli, 2009). Considering that the average human life span in that era, its not a surprise that people tried to communicate with dead through several ways. Therefore, instead of being perceived as outside the social norms, talking to dead was pretty common in the 19th century, which encouraged people to search for new ways of contacting the dead. Furthermore, Ouija boards have their roots under this branch of Spiritualism, which is a movement that began in the United States in the late 1840s, and was led by mediums, who claimed to be intermediaries between the living and the dead (McCarthy, 2014). In the 1880s, some curiosity seekers used homemade talking boards to divine answers from spirits whom they assumed to be friendly (Martinelli, 2009). These types of talking boards became very popular, and in 1890, Elijah Bond, Charles Kennard and William H.A. Maupin filed the first patent for a game they called the Ouija board, which looked and operated much like the talking boards used among; the patent was granted in 1891 (McCarthy, ... • 11. Literary Analysis Of Stopping By Woods On A Snowy Evening Student s Name: Professor: Class: Date: Literary Analysis of Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening The Poem Stopping by the Woods on a Snowy Evening is one of the classic poems penned down by Robert Frost. Looking at the poem at first glance, it is simply about what is implied on its heading the speaker is stopping by the woods on a snowy evening. The author describes vividly how the speaker, on his way home, stops by the woods and takes in the mesmerizing scenery. He is clearly torn between staying at the woods longer so he can continue enjoying the breathtaking scenery with the snow falling all around him or continue on his journey. However, despite the compelling allure for him to move further into the woods and experience a bit more of the deep and dark silence in the air, he decides to carry on with his journey since he still has things to do. He says to himself but I have promises to keep, and miles to go before I sleep. But such a view of the poem is straightforward and somehow superficial. By focusing on the literal meaning on the surface of the poem, most people fail to recognize the deep inclinations and secret motivations that Frost conveys through his clever and intriguing word play that renders a diversity of meaning. The poem must mean more than just a traveler appreciating the beauty of nature. It might be a deep metaphor that represents something else which trumpets the love for nature. • 12. Frederic Chopin as the Greatest Romantic Composer Essay In the course of the development of music, many great composers have contributed their brilliance towards the revolution of music. To be a great composer does not necessarily mean that they have reached a vast amount of fame. However, it means that their compositions have ingenuity and value. The melodies they have cleverly created have reached a point of worthiness in the world of music. For it is the sweet harmonies a composer creates that defines who he is. One of these gifted composers was Frederic Chopin, born on February 22, 1810 in Zelazowa Wola, Poland. Young Chopin was already composing by the age of eight and as his musical career developed he became known as a master of piano composition. Although he was often misunderstood ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With this clever innovation of harmonics, Chopin was highly ranked amongst other composers making him an even greater influence towards the world of piano playing. Already rising up to becoming a great icon, Chopin played a major role in the art of composing piano pieces. Chopin created his own original technique that made his music so ingenious. He composed the Trois Nouvelles Etudes , the three new studies. These studies showed his various new techniques that later influenced the keyboard, and music itself (Hueneker 140). Chopin also constructed his own original pieces by including different genres of music into one composition. For example, he would combine a polonaise and a mazurka, two different Polish dances, one being slow while the other is lively. Frederic Chopin also influenced composition with his genius use of the piano. He used the instrument to its fullest effect to create a beautiful and expressive piece (Politoske, Daniel T.). His creativity was prominently brought out this way as he was able to produce melody and harmony (Samson 4). As a matter of fact, Chopin reached fame for his various piano compositions rather than his orchestral pieces (Politoske, Daniel T.). His arrangements utilized the piano in the most unique way which is why other musicians and his audiences admired his music. Arthur Rubinstein stated that, ...all possible expressions are found in his compositions and are all sung by him upon his instrument, (Hueneker 91). Even ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 15. Application Of Dgs For Local Network Stability Introduction: Due to increased concern on energy crisis and environmental issues, power industry is shifting their power production from conventional power sources to renewable energy sources, and is incorporating it into the grid utility in the form of distributed generations (DGs). The application of DGs can enhance reliability and stability of the local network, and can reach benefit to the supplier by reducing system losses and investment on a new transmission line due to increased power consumption [1]. Power generation in the form of DGs for local and grid utility can create issues as many as it may solve. Therefore, a microgrid concept is evolved to coordinate among sources, loads, and energy storage devices for maintaining ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Inverters are able to supply controlled voltage and frequency depending on the control algorithms [3]. The characteristics of inverters are significantly different from the conventional generators; therefore, specific control algorithms are required for a stable microgrid operation [4, 5]. There are a number of publications on droop based control for facilitating high reliability and avoiding complexity of a supervisory control system [6, 12]. The droop based control algorithms are popular due to their coordination capability among various power rating units together with flexibility and reliability. The concept of droop based power control is valid for the both high voltage (HV) transmission line and low voltage (LV) distribution line, although it has some limitations. Problem formulation: To achieve consumer satisfaction in power supply and harness renewable energy, microgrids design and control are essential issues for reliable operation. As the characteristics of the distribution network and high volume power electronics penetration into the network are significantly different from the conventional power system, several issues are raised. Some of the issues, which are a promised field for future research, are described shortly below: Distribution network: In a LV distribution network, the well known P/f droop control requires much more effort than the P/V droop because predominated resistive network that naturally connects active power with ... • 16. College Dropout Rate And Evidence College Dropout Rate Evidence To Support You re done, you have dropped out of college and there s nothing you can do. Congratulations, you are now in the 1.3 million that also contributed to this statistic. The college dropout rate varies based upon a wide variety of problems college students encounter. Now your reasons for dropping out? There could be many, some of which you couldn t control. However, there are some that directly contribute to the dropout rate; that you could have. We ll be looking at 13 pieces of evidence that contribute to the dropout rate. Sometimes ethnicities have lower completion rates than others, Asian/Pacific Islanders have the highest rate and American Indian/Alaskan natives the lowest 66% and 40% (Pleskac). So you cannot choose your ethnic background, but that is no reason to not go to college or get a degree. About 40% of black and Hispanic students had a family crisis just within their sophomore year of college. That was almost 6% more than white and virtually 20% more than Asian students (Harris). Those things you cannot control and it is important that you keep the right mindset during hard times, so it does not interfere with studies. Coming from a different ethnic background they are more ..likely to come from lower socioeconomic backgrounds, which makes them vulnerable to family crises ..which can be difficult (Harris). John Buford led Union troops to Gettysburg and when he arrived him and his men were informed that the Southern troops that they were looking for had just left the town. From the outside of Gettysburg the Southern General James Pettigrew reported to his superiors that he had visited shops in Gettysburg in order to buy the shoes that his soldiers direly needed. On June 21, however one of the divisions that was led by General Ewell, entered into Chambersburg Pennsylvania. A few days later, the other two divisions arrived in Pennsylvania. The soldier added, We will have to fight here, and when it comes it will be the biggest on record. The Southern Confederate troops in Pennsylvania were somewhat scattered, however General Lee was not even worried about this. He felt safe, mainly because he believed that their enemy General Hooker s Union army had yet to cross over the Potomac River. Aging Out Research Paper Introduction and Definition of Foster Children Aging Out The term aging out refers to children within a state s foster care system who are still in the system upon reaching the age of majority or when they have graduated from high school (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). Many of these children have not found permanency with an adoptive family ... or they have not been able to return to their biological parents (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). A child typically ages out at 18 years, but some states have extended services beyond this age because so many young adults are just not ready to be thrust out into the world on their own at such a young age (Craft, 2017, Aging Out). Even so, the government took steps to decrease its consumption further by banning the sale of bread until twelve hours after it had been baked. The government decided that fresh bread was very difficult to cut thinly so, if everyone cut their loaves in thick slices, they would consume more. Additionally, the more appetising taste of fresh baked bread could encourage people to eat it immoderately. Plans were put in place to substitute the established white loaf with a national loaf made from wholemeal grain. It is a loaf we are familiar with today but in 1918 many thought the taste and colour unappetising, and some blamed it for a variety of digestive problems. ... Before Xmas, 1914, the truth dawned on me I had been selfish ignoring the fact that thousands of fine, brave fellows had already given their lives good Christian men most of them and presumed to put my conscientious objections before my country s need and the cause of God. • 24. The State And State Sovereignty Introduction This paper discusses the crucial issue of electoral systems and their peculiar utility to the effective representation in the national legislature (and even the executive) of the diverse interests within the state. This discussion is in no way novel as it has been one of the most age old and fundamental questions in the study of politics. Controversially, it can be said that before the question of how the state and state sovereignty (popularly led by John Locke and Thomas Hobbes) gained traction, the question of who must govern the state and how that governor must be chosen had already enjoyed some dissection. Plato s classical concept of the Philosopher King for instance, buttresses the latter assertion. To Plato, the reins of supreme power in the state had to be given to an authority that wielded an appreciable grasp of philosophy. To him, if a state wanted to choose a leader that could best ensure the wellbeing of all, that person must be a philosopher as the philosopher would know the interests of the people and pursue it accordingly. Plato also suggested that the Philosopher King had to surround himself with wise men for the purposes of seeking counsel. Aristotle criticized Plato s theory and doubted that it was viable for one man to know of the interests of all and also to be entrusted with so much power but would not abuse it. This conversation that began thousands of years ago has recorded succinct inputs from many other thinkers and scholars. In ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Elizabethan Er The Era Of Beauty And Fascination Elizabethan Era Clothing The Elizabethan era was an extraordinarily fashion era for both man and women, a time when everything was changing from the fifteenth century simple dress to extravagant and dramatic styles which we call Elizabethan fashion. At that time, new styles, modern yet unique fabrics, charm colors, sharp design and glamor silhouette were evolving. Every layer and piece of Elizabethan outfit was equally important, from the fancy dress to the smallest details. Definitely, the Elizabethan era was the time of beauty and fascination. • 27. Renaissance Influence On The Historical And Social... Renaissance Influence on the Historical and Social Significance of Self Portraiture During the Renaissance, artists were acquiring status and the technical means to create a new genre of art called self portraiture (Bond). Portraits are defined as having a likeness of a specific individual (Adams). However, self portraits do not only have a likeness of the artist but also a sense of psychology that connects the viewer to the artist. This connection gives the self portrait a depth of complexity that even portraits do not always achieve. Following the development of self portraiture, one must transverse the development of portraiture. Then one must follow self portraits connection to portraiture and self portraits own unique development. Then one must recognize the influence of the society on the value of the artist and their artworks. In order to understand the significance of the development of self portraiture, one must have some familiarity with the history of portraiture and its development as a whole. Portraiture is a facet of the artistic community that retains a deep history from multiple ancient cultures. In Ancient Egyptian, around fifteen thousand B.C., artists carved out portraits, mostly of the pharaohs. Also, many of the portraits created were meant to reside in the patron s tomb upon his or her death. The purpose of my visit was to learn about all aspects of theatre, from basic acting skills to technical designing. Also, this was my first time attended to watch a live performance by the college student. A Streetcar Named Desire is the story about of a girl named Blanche DuBois, travels from the town of Laurel to live with her sister in the New Orleans French Quarter. Her sister, Stella live in a two room flat with her brother in law, Stanley Kowalski. She finds Stanley vulgar, boisterous, and dominant husband. However, Stanley does not like her presence and thinks that Blanche comes with a secret. Unfortunately, they do not like each other. Stanley feels that while she is staying with them, Blanche tries to convince Stella that he is loud and rough as common. He wants Blanche to leave, so he gives her a bus ticket back to Laurel for her birthday. Later on, Stanley gossips to Stella that he has gathered on Blanche, telling her about what did Blanche do in the past. At the end of the play, he brutally rapes Blanche, while Stella is at the hospital with their first child. Blanche becomes psychotic crisis by destroying her both physically and mentally from what Stanley did to her. Blanche tells the truth about Stanley s assault to Stella, but her sister disbelieves her. Blanche has suffered a complete mental breakdown and is to be committed to a mental hospital. When looking for sources to use in a research paper you need to be able to determine whether or not a source is reliable and credible. It is important to use reliable and credible sources so that the information you use in a document you are writing is accurate and will not affect you in a negative way, by either getting a bad grade in school or just looking unintelligent to a colleague. When using ethos you create a sense of authority to the reader that what you are saying is reliable. For example, in commercials athletes advertise athletic products, while models advertise beauty products. This shows a reader that professional people in a certain field backup a product in a positive way. Ethos is also used when someone uses actions that a person has completed in the past, to help persuade people that they have experience and are reliable. When using logos you can cite statistics, analogies, and historical context about a topic to show you are a credible source and that the information you are using can be proven with evidence. It enhances a rational and fact based reasoning on a topic. If you use pathos and appeal to the more emotional side of a topic, a reader could immediately identify your source as bias, as it uses a human s sense of emotion to get someone to agree with a topic. A credible and reliable source can be determined through characteristics in spelling/grammar, citations and examples used within a document, and the author. Once a reliable and credible source has been identified you can use it in any research paper that will help improve your skills as a writer, and make your writing as reliable as the sources that allowed you to write it. • 37. Bourdieu On Social Class This essay will look at the conceptual tools that Bourdieu employed to explain the interactions of class and status on social and economical inequalities. Bourdieu uses conceptual tools that consist of the notion habitus, and the identification of three forms of capital: economic, cultural, social and the concept of field. Bourdieu (1930 2002) was interested in the systems that society used to reproduce, and the economic and social factors that permitted the stability of class. Unlike Marx, Bourdieu, alike Weber, believed that the exploited and exploiter dichotomy could not be explained by economics alone. Firstly, economic capital is defined by Marx and Weber as the economic assets held by an individual, such as property and labour (Bourdieu, 1986 p.46). Secondly, cultural capital refers to non economical social assets that promote social mobility, these assets can include, education, intellect and credentials which operate as resources similar to that of economic capital, to create class hierarchies based on status (Bourdieu, 1986 pp.47 48). Cultural capital has three subtypes, embodied, objectified and institutionalised. Embodied cultural capital consists of elements that have been passively inherited or consciously acquired, such as an accent or dialect. Objectified cultural capital consists of ownership of physical objects that can be transmitted both for economic and cultural capital, owning a luxury car or painting collection are examples of objectified cultural capital. Lastly institutionalised cultural capital, involves credentials and qualifications which can be a representation of an individual cultural competence and authority (Bourdieu, 1986 pp.50 51). Thirdly, social capital refers to an array of social networks such as friends, memberships and groups formed consciously or unconsciously (Bourdieu, 1986 pp.51 52). These networks are highly important and are representative of a social position. For example, the Old Boy s Union is a deliberate cultivation of social networks within the educational sphere, that are nearly exclusively composed of the dominant/bourgeoisies class. While this allows the internal audit activity to provide value to its organisation, RBIA is a challenging prospect. • 41. Female Roles In Dystopian Literature In a research done by Mcclantoc (2016), it can be deduced that the main ingredient of a good dystopian literature are the main protagonists who induce some kind of social change in their society or world. This applies regardless of the two types of dystopia; one that is apparent or in the guise of a utopia. In dystopian literature, the main characters are the average person. They are usually male characters. At the beginning of the story, they noticed the flaws in their society and question or disagree with it. The characters are devised and carefully laid out that they eventually show initiative to induce change in their society or world. Yet, the main female character who is included in the story alongside the main character serves as a trigger or guide to initiate the main character to make a change for their dystopic society or world. Despite how hard the female character provides aid to the main male character, she does not rise to be in the spotlight in the story. The theory by Gottelieb (2001) observed the criterion of how the female protagonist is viewed and portrayed in dystopian literature. The theory mocked the existence of the female characters in the story. It seems that these female characters only have two tasks in their story. IMS Health predicts the growth to maximize at 90% of the prescription market (Salazar, 2015). Though there is not much room between generic drugs currently representing 83% of prescription drugs and the predicted 90% maximum, the next twelve months appear a safe investment period for the generic drug industry when considering the currently growth rate. Many factors influence success in the generic drug industry; among the influences is the need for an alternative to higher priced brand name drugs. This was the original purpose of generic drugs. Initially, generics offered a considerable price benefit over brand drugs with a reduction of at least 60% for specialty drugs and 80% for oral prescriptions (Taylor, 2015). Recently, the rising cost of generics has drawn much scrutiny. Many factors contribute to the increased cost of generics. According to Salazar, increased product quality regulations, less new products entering the market, inflation, and the increased number of former prescription drugs being offered over the counter have all lead to higher generic drug pricing. An additional motive for the increased cost of generics may be pure greed. Price hikes as exorbitant as 5000% have occurred in recent months in some generic drugs. Taylor attributes the price hikes to the increased need for innovation and the lack of competition in generic drug manufacturers. These ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

According to Garvin, Ireland has been a modernizing society since the Famine, and the tragedy of the Famine was itself the occasion of a great modernizing change (469). • 52. Relationship Between Depression And A Shadow He once told me that depression felt like a shadow. Everywhere he went, it was right there with him. The difference between depression and a shadow is that when the sun sinks below the horizon and the stars begin to appear, the shadow loses its fuel and leaves until dawn. With depression, night only made the shadow stronger. He described depression as a broken feeling; he had cracks within himself where sadness always seemed to settle. He had told me when I first met him that I would never understand the things that he was feeling. At the time, our circumstances had us deemed an unconventional couple . He was a few years older than me, a college boy, and I was just a teenager, working through high school and the many problems ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He had five tattoos in total. My favourite was the bare tree that was sprawled across the entire side of his abdomen. I also had a fascination with the stain on his right collarbone. On top of those, he had one located on each arm and one just below his neck on his back. I loved his tattoos. I loved his scars. Its sad to think that in some circumstances happiness can be neither pursued or compromised by oneself. Its sad that the most wonderful people get stuck with the shittiest of circumstances. I knew that everyday was a struggle, and I knew that everyday he pushed harder and harder to free himself of the shackles of sadness. The pills that he took were not his only efforts to overcome this. He had weights on his shoulder that he removed including a girlfriend of two years that he loved but was not in love with, and a job that did not challenge him. He had told me that being with him made him calm, it made him momentarily forget the struggles. Being with him made me forget my struggles too. Every moment spent with him was an adventure that I don t think I ll never recover from. He gave me that sort of feeling that you get when you re swinging and you suddenly have pushed yourself so high that you think you re flying. When your stomach manages to tie itself into knots all on its own, but you know you re safe as long as you hold on tight. He worked so hard to keep me happy and made sure that I always felt safe. I have a fear of thunderstorms. At the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 53. Sophocles Oedipus The King The renowned Greek philosopher, Aristotle, is widely known for his theories in mathematics, physics, and politics. However, he is also known for establishing ideas in the field of literature, such as the concept of tragedy and the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal. This ancient concept and theory are still highly discussed and used to analyze numerous pieces of literature to this day. One piece that could be considered as an ideal tragedy is the play Oedipus the King written by Sophocles. In this play, Sophocles utilizes the concept of tragedy as well the theory of the importance of scenes of recognition and reversal to create a setting, tone, and mood throughout the play. Oedipus, the mythical king of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... An example of the use of fear to bring emotion to the reader in Oedipus the King is when the city of Thebes is suffering from a plague that destroys fields of crops as well as the fertility of its woman. A blight is on the fruitful plants of the earth, a blight is on the cattle in the fields, a blight is on our women that no children are born to them; a God that carries fire, a deadly pestilence, is on our town (Sophocles 26 30). At the beginning of the play when Oedipus is asking the people of Thebes why they are sitting in front of his palace, a Priest explains that there is a plague going on in the city and they want an end to it. It is later known that the plague will never end until the murderer of Laius, the king of Thebes before Oedipus, is found. Oedipus vows to find the murderer, which eventually leads to him finding out he was the one who killed his father and married his own mother, thus fulfilling his fate. This extracts pity from the reader, for all the character tried their hardest to run from the prophecy but in the end, it still catches them. Lastly, tragedy can be seen throughout the entire play, as readers see the steady downfall of a hero, who was heavily influenced by his hubris or pride. Aristotle s ideal tragic hero is one the must exceed the average man intellectually, physically and mentally. Oedipus not only travels throughout the city defeating numerous foes, but eventually becomes the king of Thebes. Not only that, according to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
