Athena And Mesopotamia Similarities
Located in various places throughout the world, the popular urban cities of Egypt, Mesoamerica, and
Mesopotamia used to serve as economic and ideological centers. Although there were many
similarities amongst these peculiar places, each city was different when it came to exhibiting
intellectual messages and meanings. As we take a closer look into the Amarna and the Medinet Habu
Temple of Egypt, one may notice how divided the domestic, economic, and religious spaces were in
comparison to other urban areas. On the other hand, while observing Teotihuacan and Tikal of
Mesoamerica, we were able to recognize the nature of the sacred city s landscape due to its open
plazas and how it legitimized the rule of kings. Lastly, while uncovering the ancient ... Show more

Both cities had large sanctuaries and open plazas, which emphasized the importance of religion since
many ceremonies were performed at these various temples. They were also striking and soaring in
structure, which conveyed the notion that it brought people closer to heaven. This is essential because
brought many people together from different areas and conveyed the royal authority as sacred. As for
the social and political landscape of these two cities, it was not as separated when comparing to other
ancient urban areas. Emerging as one of the few competing City states that characterized
Mesopotamian civilization, the city of Ur was most known for its wealth and power of the ruling elite.
The Ziggurat temple of Ur Nammu was the city s most known place of worship that was dedicated to
Nanna, the moon god. Even today, the building s structure is considered a masterpiece due to the
skillfully calculated heights of different stages and the slope of the walls that lead the eye directly to
the center. Portraying his political and economical dominance, Ur Nammu showcased his power

Feirc Chopin Research Paper
Frédéric François Chopin, also known as Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin, was the Polish composer and
pianist of the Romantic era. He was born on March 1st, 1810 at Żelazowa Wola, a village in east
central Poland. However, in his baptismal certificate, his birthday was recorded as February 22nd. His
father, Mikolaj Chopin was a Frenchman from Lorraine. When he first came to Paris, he worked as a
bookkeeper and when Frédéric Chopin was born, he tutored families in Warsaw. His mother, Tekla
Justyna Krzyanowska was the housekeeper of the Skarbek family. She introduced Chopin to music at

Wurfel. In 1828, Chopin decided to go to Vienna and gain wider musical experience. A year after, he
made his performance in there and composed Piano Concerto No.2 in F Minor and Piano Concerto
No.1 in E Minor. His first études were also written between 1829 to 1832 and this allowed him to
notice technical difficulties in his new style of piano playing. He continued his performance in Poland,
Germany, Austria and Paris. In 1832, Chopin decided to settle in Paris and he changed his name from
Fryderyk Franciszek Chopin to Frédéric François Chopin. He also built relationships with fellow
composers, including Franz Liszt, Hector Berlioz, Vincenzo Bellini and Felix Mendelssohn. After his
first Paris concert on the same year he settled in Paris, Chopin realized that not everyone likes his
delicate style on keyboard in larger concert spaces. Although he was not favoured by large concert
audiences at all, Chopin was soon employed in the great parlors of Paris as a recitalist and a teacher.

Taxonomy Of Social Engineering Techniques
Taxonomy of Social Engineering Techniques [sw1]
PERSON PERSON:
PRE TEXTING: This is one of the most popular and a valued technique a social engineer can use
since it needs lots of research about the victim before the actual attack is carried out. In a typical
pretext the con artist plans out a design that tend to influence a destined victim for performing certain
actions that compromise the information confidentiality. An example of a highly publicized pretext
attack is quoted from Wikipedia as [sw2] On September 5, 2006, Newsweek revealed that Hewlett
Packard s general counsel, at the behest of HP chairwoman Patricia Dunn, had contracted a team of
independent security experts to investigate board members and several journalists ... Show more

Even though this attack is very effective, it has its own weakness of the users becoming suspicious of
unsolicited requests.
Reverse Social Engineering (RSE) [sw3]: This is a form of attack that overcomes the weakness of the
pre texting attack mentioned above. Here the attacker presents himself as a high level authority so as
to influence the victim to establish the contact and ask more questions instead of the attacker initiating
the request. This is also termed as Quid pro quo in which the intruder provides some incentive that
prompts the victim to reveal information which would not be disclosed otherwise. Reverse Social
Engineering can be classified using their characteristics. i) Targeted/Untargeted: In case of a targeted
attack, the attacker knows some predefined information about the victim and targets that particular
user to extract information from him. In an untargeted attack, random set of users are targeted with a
particular motive. ii) Direct/Mediated: In a direct attack, the intruder posts a message or any
information directly on a public forum to bait the users into revealing information. In a mediated
attack, baiting is carried out as a two step process involving an intermediate agent whose job is to
propagate the bait to the targeted set of users.
Based on the characteristics three different RSE attacks are possible.
Recommendation based RSE (Targeted, Mediated): Most of the social networks (such as Facebook)
use recommendation systems to prompt

Skeletal Muscle Cells
Structure of Skeletal Muscle: (4)
Skeletal muscle cells (single cell with many nuclei) are cells that are often under voluntary control.
Skeletal muscle cells are attached to bones of the body and assist in bone movement. Attached to the
bone via tendons (strong bands of connective tissue) is the belly of the muscle which alternates in
thickness. Connective tissue also creates a sheath, binding together groups of muscle cells. Every
skeletal muscle cell is arranged length ways adjacent to one another comprised of a multitude of
myofibrils. Surrounding each skeletal muscle cell is the sarcolemma with contains sarcoplasm. A

Obstacles In Enrique s Home Life
During Enrique s home life he has dealt with many obstacles that shape his decision of setting forth

difficulties migrants like Enrique must face in their journeys north and what they endure in the United
States after they arrive. Enrique s hand of justice has been quite different than the average American

Literary Devices In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet Literary Analysis Essay Literary devices are reveal several details about characters
in stories, movies, plays, and other writings. Oxymorons are two opposites placed right next to each
other. A paradox is simply a oxymoron except seperated and placed in a sentence. Lastly, a
juxtaposition is contrasting two objects such as characters, places, and even their actions. William
Shakespeare successfully added all of these literary devices into his famous play Romeo and Juliet.
Shakespeare indirectly revealed character traits for Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Laurence by using all
three of these literary devices. Shakespeare used the figurative language to indirectly describe who
Romeo is. Romeo and Mercutio argue with each other about the importance of dreams (1.4.11 103).
During Mercutio s Queen Mab speech, it reveals that Romeo is a dreamer and Mercutio is not. This is
a juxtaposition because Mercutio and Romeo have two different mindsets on dreams. An example of
Shakespeare using a oxymoron to indirectly describe Romeo is when Romeo states, Feather of lead, ...

Juliet says, Come, night; come, Romeo, come thou day in night (3.2.17). She waits for Romeo all day
until night not knowing about the fight with Tybalt. As she speaks, this quote reveals that Juliet is
obsessive and passionate. She is explaining that Romeo is her sun and a necessity for life. It is a
paradox because it talks about day in night which are two opposites in a sentence. Juliet tells the Nurse
as she finds out Romeo is apart of the Montagues: My only love sprung from my only hate (1.5.136).
This clarified that she is a risk taker and very rebellious for still wanting to love Romeo. Also, this is
another paradox because her only love came from her only hate which is two opposites in a sentence.
For Friar Laurence, Shakespeare uses paradoxes and oxymorons to indirectly explain who he

Essay on Chronic Renal Failure
Introduction Every human body contains one pair of kidneys. They are situated towards the back of
the body under the ribs, just at the level of the waist, with one on each side of the body. Each kidney is
composed of about one million units called nephrons, and each nephron consists of two parts: a filter,
called the glomerulus and a tubule leading out from the nephrons (Cameron 1999). According to
Marshall and Bangert (2008), the kidneys have three major functions: firstly, the kidneys excrete
waste from plasma in the blood. Secondly, they maintain extracellular fluid volume and composition.
Lastly, the kidneys play a role in hormone synthesis. There are many diseases that might infect the
kidneys and affect their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, when the kidneys stop working completely, the situation known as end stage renal failure
(ESRF) occurs in CRF. Some diseases may cause CRF when patients are infected for a long time.
Diabetes Mellitus One of the diseases that can cause CRF is diabetes mellitus, a major cause of renal
failure. This disease can be defined as an increase in fasting blood glucose as a result of a deficiency
in insulin, which is a hormone. The normal range for glucose (fasting) in the blood is 2.8 6.0 mmol/L.
Diabetes Mellitus is classified into two groups: type 1 (insulin dependent) and type 2 (non insulin
dependent). The difference between them is that, in type 1, the body does not produce enough insulin,
but in type 2 the body does not make effective use of this hormone. Stein (2008, p. 6) points out that
kidney failure most often occurs when patients have suffered from diabetes mellitus for more than 10
years. According to a report by the U.S. Renal Data System (USRDS) in 2007, the cause of
approximately 44% of renal failure in 2005 was diabetes mellitus. Stein (2008) also indicates that 15%
of dialysis patients are influenced by diabetes mellitus in the United Kingdom. Diabetes mellitus has
negative effects on the kidneys, where the increase in range of blood sugar causes damage to kidney
cells, in particular the nephrons. This can

Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw
The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense. The
story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes
for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of
the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing.
One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White
the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s
lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that
the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they
wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes
will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris
throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it
(paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the
paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw.
You can also tell from this that Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to
destroy it. After that, Mr. White asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response

because of inadequate education, disproportionate poverty, discrimination in the delivery of health

Examples Of Queer Theory In The Great Gatsby

ENGL100A_FA_2017
Queer theory is a post structuralist theory that emerged in the early 1990s from the fields of queer and
women s studies. The theory builds on both feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the
essential self and upon gay and lesbian studies close examination of the socially constructed nature of
sexual activity and identities. This theory focuses on the mismatches between sex, gender, and desire.
Queerness has been prominently identified as bisexual, lesbian, and gay people, although it also
includes different categories such as cross dressing, intersex bodies and identities, gender ambiguity
and gender corrective surgery. The queer theory is an attempt to expose the different lifestyles that
people may be unaware of and to give them several categories in the LGBTQ community to look at;
correlates sexes, genders, and sexualities out of specifically lesbian and gay. One of these examples of
queer analysis is in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby.
The narrative progression in the novel is stationed around Jay Gatsby s deep love for Daisy Fay
Buchanan and the three overlapping heterosexual love triangles: Gatsby Daisy Tom, Tom Myrtle
George, Myrtle Tom Daisy. This heterosexual plot is indeed shadowed by a homoerotic subtext but
with all the twists and turns of the novel.
I argue that the novel s sexual wrongdoing and the creation of lesbian and gay subtext work in

The Negative Consequences Of Socrates
Socrates (467 399) was the first poor philosopher. He is well known for dialoguing and entering into
study by asking questions, which is the basis for the Socratic Method. Also known for vehemently
speaking out againstwriting, Socrates never wrote any of his philosophies down. He believed that
writing made people intellectually lazy, and instead of expanding their capacity for memory, made it
smaller. This is a very interesting thing to consider, since many people will write things down instead
of committing them to memory because it is easier. Socrates was against the teaching of ideas without
dialogue, which he believed writing tried to attempt by preventing people from really engaging the
subject matter on their own. However, I think that the benefits of writing far outweigh the negative
consequences of it. Without writing, humans would have a limited way of passing information on,
especially in communication with those in other parts of the world, and in the future. Interesting, as a
result of his distaste for writing, any information about Socrates philosophies that we have come from
other people who recorded his ideas, most notably Plato (427 347). Plato decided to write out Socrates
many dialogues, even though he knew of Socrates critique of writing. It is possible that he did not
believe writing out Socrates dialogues was wrong since it does encourage readers engagment in the
information as it is written in a conversational style. So what made Socrates enter

The Grand Canyon is in the northwest corner of Arizona, bordering Utah and Nevada. Did you know

Next, these rocks undergo erosion, which is the process of moving sediments from one place to
another. Then, these sediments are deposited all at one place and over time they start to converge and
cement as layers which are also known as strata. As time keeps going, new sediments deposit and
cement together over old ones forming new layers. This is a repetitive process that eventually build up
layers to make up a Sedimentary rock. Approximately 40 major sedimentary rock layers exposed in
the Grand Canyon National Park area range in age from about 200 million to nearly 2 billion years
old. As you can see, sedimentary rock formation takes an excessive amount of time. So you now know
how sedimentary rocks are formed and how the Colorado River majorly eroded all the rock creating
canyons. But here comes the million dollar question: where did all the rocks come from? The answer
to that question is The Continental Drift. The Earth s continents are not fixed in place, but rather float
on a sea of molten rock, meaning that they move around quite a bit. Over 250 million years, that quite
a bit can turn into land masses moving thousands of miles. Moreover, the Earth is made up of 20
Tectonic plates. Seven of these plates are very large and consist of entire continents or sea floors. The
plate that the Grand Canyon is located on is called The North American Plate . At one time, this plate

Mario Puzo: Introduction
Mario Puzo was an American Screenwriter and Author who is best known for his Novel which was
later adapted into one of the most famous movie series of all times The Godfather.
Mario Puzo was born on October 15,1920 in an area of New York known as Hell s Kitchen. Mario s
Father was an illiterate and poor immigrant who abandoned Mario and his mother during Mario s
early teens as he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and was institutionalized. Mario s mother wanted

Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style
typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature. The Dark
Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World
War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black market drug supplier
to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure
lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell s
kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and
crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s description of petty
criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of
crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario
Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the
Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his
sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s benevolent authority is founded
on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of
the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing
factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self
sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly
personal honour and loyalty. The Sicilian is regarded as a sequel to The Godfather, Puzo revisits the
Corleone family.

The Importance Of Freedom Rides
Imagine how it would feel if you were not allowed to go into the same bathroom as everyone else, if
you were told to sit in a cut off section of a restaurant, or if you were made to sit on the back of a

not get the same equal rights as any other human beings in America(Lifson). Because of the
mistreatment, African Americans began to take a stand and speak out on the injustices they face
everyday just because of the color of their skin, and it began a powerful movement. They had multiple

MedImmune is dedicated to helping patients live better lives through advances in science and
medicine. Hundreds of thousands of patients have benefited from their products, which are designed
to treat or prevent infectious diseases, cancer and inflammatory diseases (Wikipedia, 2012). Their
extensive research and development efforts are focused on these same areas.
MedImmune acquired FluMist when it purchased Aviron in 2002. FluMist is Aviron s lead product for

The problems can be grouped into two categories: problems with estimating cash flows and problems
with estimating discount rates. How long will it take to get a positive earning? What number should
the discount rate be?
Secondly, although the company took a long time before the introduction of the vaccine FluMist, the
nasal spray flu virus has been unable to obtain FDA approval for the vaccination of young children
and the elderly. FluMist also exists the problem of poor sales and difficult storage. MedImmune paid $
1.5 billion in 2001 after the acquisition of California Aviron in launching of FluMist. At that time,
MedImmune predicted that FluMist would become a blockbuster drugs. But in fact, FluMist is quite
poor performance on the market. Poor estimation on potential customers and market growth should be
the main reasons for the failure.

by the two companies, MedImmune used 1.075 shares of outstanding stock in exchange of one

Education Is An Integral Part Of A Child s Upbringing
Academia Education
Academia education is considered an integral part of a child s upbringing, and therefore it remains
highly important to require academic institutions to educate and inform students regarding substance
use and its consequences. SAMHSA recommends instituting programs at an early age, for example,
the Good Behavior Game introduced in elementary schools, is a management strategy aimed at
reducing aggressive, disruptive classroom behavior, a risk factor for adolescent and illicit drug abuse
(SAMHSA, 2016). Similarly the focus group participants mentioned that Academia Education from K
12 grade needs to incorporate evidence based programs in the academic curriculum in addressing

Pros And Cons Of Technology Based Society
With the world we live in today, it s not a secret that we are moving towards a more technological
based society. Just like with other aspects of life, there are pros and cons to this transition. First off,
with technology becoming more of a necessity in today s world, more people and businesses rely on
this for their daily lives and operations. For example, according to (Schiffer, 2017), a casino used an
internet connected fish tank to help keep track of the tank s temperature, cleanliness, and food. The
article goes on to tell how the casino s information was hacked by hackers accessing to the fish tank.
Personally, I was amazed by how the hackers could hack an entire casino, through one fish tank. On
the other hand, a technology based world can also make life easier. For example, Amazon has now
begun to use robots in their warehouses to sort and pick items. Although this may threaten some
employee s jobs, these machines are easier to operate and can be monitored more closely than an
employee. The fish tank in the casino and the robots that Amazon use are classified as the Internet of
Things.
According to (Cornish, 2017), the internet of things refers to electronic devices that transmits
information back and forth of the internet. These items include but are not limited to Fitbits and
Amazon Echo with Alexa. I personally own an Amazon Echo and I can say that I love using it. Using
only your voice, it can play music, call someone, or even search the Internet. With the

Last Orders By Graham Swift
Last Orders by Graham Swift is a novel that tells the story of four men as they carry out the last
wishes of the recently deceased Jack Dodds: that his ashes be scattered into the sea at Margate, a sea
his family frequently visited. The story follows the four men on their journey to the sea through the
eyes of Ray Johnson, one of Jack s war buddies. The novel is also composed of flashbacks through the
eyes of several of the characters in the novel. The three other men, Vince Dodds, Lenny Tate, and Vic
Tucker, are influential to the plot as they are all used to narrate flashbacks, as well. In Last Orders,
Graham Swift uses these flashbacks to show how the characters are shaped by each other; he does this
through the characters occupations and hobbies, relationships between couples, and relationships
between parents and children. One way Swift introduces the characters to his audience is through their
occupations. Despite his being dead, Jack remains the central character in the novel as many of the
flashbacks reference Jack s occupation, a butcher. Jack is forced to be a butcher because he must carry
on the family business, but it is revealed by Ray what he really wanted was to be a doctor (Swift 33).
Given this, Jack shows ambivalence throughout the flashbacks about being a butcher. Alexandra
Marginean contends that Jack praises the occupation as dignifying and manly, but at the same time
resents it (272). However ambivalent he may be, Jack shows that he has

Compare and Contrast
Film Excalibur to Sir Thomas Malory s Le Morte d Arthur
Literary works on the story of King Arthur and his cohorts is a story that had been narrated in several
books and even modified in movies which typical illustrates the lives of the Arthurian legends. The
story The Excalibur cannot be compared with any of the other versions of the Arthurian tales ever in
history. Sir Thomas Malory s version of the Arthurian tale took a French style and name in which
some elements of the movie are quite different from the original versions of the tale. Nonetheless, the
significance of the story was never reflected in any of the versions of the tale that had been told.

The source of the sword is also another point of divergence in the two stories. In the Excalibur, the
source of the sword was not recognized but the account was made concerning his return into a stone
(Lucy 257). But in Le Morte d Arthur, the source of the sword accounted for as it was given to King
Arthur by the lady of the lake and it marks a symbol of authority to unify the empire after the demise
of King Uther (Malory).
Lancelot was compared in both versions of the tale. In the Excalibur, he took the centre stage due to
his impact during the battle between the armies of Arthur and that of Mordred. But in Malory s Le
Morte d , Arthur could be seen more as a traitor who wants to lure Guinevere into marrying by
proposing to her after Arthur had engaged her hands in marriage. Arthur could be seen as the hero in
both versions as the future of the kingdom solely rest upon his shoulders coupled with the support of
the Lady of the Lake. However, some people argue that Lancelot is the hero due to his bravery.
The events that were recorded in both stories differ in its interpretations. The issue of land disputes
between King Arthur and Mordred was recorded differently. In the Excalibur, King Arthur was
reluctant in allocating his share of the empire to Mordred and this led to series of dispute between both
of them, While in Le Morte d Arthur, it was accounted that King Arthur was willing to voluntarily

Comparing The Thing And Terminator II
Advanced or behind In both films that were presented in class The Thing and Terminator II:
Judgement Day, there are different versions of technology, and different perceptions of the future.
Though both films have a different take of these two aspects they both show a world that is slowly
turning into a dystopia. The dystopia in The Thing started as soon as the Aliens crashed on our planet.
It was a slow and uneasy to watch that process can make viewers cringe. In Terminator II: Judgement
Day the dystopia was a little less personal. Even with the humans worried that the human race would
soon be destroyed the aspect that all the other humans did not know what was happening made it
somewhat easier to watch than The Thing. With both movies showing their different takes on
technology and invasions they show viewers two different ideas/depictions of the future that humans
might have no considered. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This movie can be seen as a little more or and invasive attack on the humans. These aliens can
consume humans and then take the form of their body. The reason this is invasive to some is because
we all look at each other as being the same. No matter what someone s skin colour, hair colour or eye
colour be we all know who each others bodies work. However, now with these aliens, that mind set in
completely gone. Yes, it is obvious that this movie is one of science fiction. Having these aliens be
able to take over the one thing that we are supposed to have control over is very frightening. This
movie makes viewers think and consider the possibility of this actually happening. What if it already

Essay about The American Civil War
The American Civil War was from 1861 to 1865 it was a civil war between the United States of
America and the Southern slave states of the newly formed Confederate States of America under
Jefferson Davis. The Union included all of the free states and the five slaveholding border states and
was led by Abraham Lincoln and the Republican Party. Republicans opposed the expansion of slavery
into territories owned by the United States, and their victory in the presidential election of 1860
resulted in seven Southern states declaring their secession from the Union even before Lincoln took
office. The Union rejected secession, regarding it as rebellion. Hostilities began on April 12, 1861,

Confederate resistance collapsed after Lee surrendered to Grant at Appomattox Court House in April
1865. The war, the deadliest in American history, caused 620,000 soldier deaths and an undetermined
number of civilian casualties, ended slavery in the United States, restored the Union by settling the
issues of nullification and secession and strengthened the role of the Federal government. However,
issues affected by the war s unresolved social, political, economic and racial tensions continue to
shape contemporary American thought. The Civil War Memorial, in Sycamore, Illinois, it is located in
front of the DeKalb County Courthouse on a public square, it was shown in 1896 and dedicated in
1897. The monument is constructed from a combination of marble, masonry and the metal used for
the sculpted copper and masonry soldiers. The structure also incorporated wood into its design. The
front facade is adorned with a marble plate engraved with an excerpt from U.S. President Abraham
Lincoln s Gettysburg Address, also marble faced, are emblazoned with the names of major battles and
campaigns of the war.

Mr Nobody Character Analysis
Mr. Nobody is a fantasy/drama written by Jack Van Dormael also known as the director that associates
a lot of his films with characters who have mental disabilities or physical disabilities. The rated R film
that contained sexuality/nudity, strong language, and violent images was released in 2009. Mr.
Nobody was watched on Netflix by TV. It was a confusing movie at first, but is easy to catch on along
the way. The protagonist is named nemo, also known as the lead singer of Thirty Seconds to Mars. He
is the last mortal human on earth to die and is being watched every second of his last moments like a
zoo animal by these weird, futuristic, and immortal humans. Mr. Nobody is trying to remember his
whole life step by step by the help of a man who has the Mike Tyson tattoo imprinted all over his face.
The story begins in the year of 2092. The whole film consisted of high key lighting and the futuristic
scenes looked a lot like what is described a limbo setting. The wide shots captured a colorful palette
setting similar to Wes Anderson childlike color palette . There was various flashbacks of nemo s
younger self and his many infinite possibilities and pathways he could ve taken. Dormael really
wanted the audience to analyze the character s physical appearance and study every pore upon their
face due to many face close up shots captured throughout the movie such as 7:39, 11:13, 17:16, 37:48,
54:14, 1:28:57, and counting. The pool scene (25:40) seemed like a shot that needed a

Invitation To Sociology Summary
Peter L. Bergen wrote Invitation to Sociology with hopes to get the reader to reexamine his or her
social world and become cognizant of never before considered issues. He discusses many sociological
topics including culture shock, culture shock minus geographical displacement, and sociological
debunking. Culture shock refers to the feeling of disbelief or astonishment when something totally
new to one person is completely mundane and traditional to another person s culture. A similar
sentiment can occur in your own culture when something behind closed doors comes to light that you
had no idea was happening.
Within any society, people take their own way of life for granted. Like Bergen says in his article,
Invitation to Sociology, Americans take the fact that we are not cannibals for granted. However, if we
were to travel to another country that does practice cannibalism, we would be shocked. Most people
are not hoarders, so when we see on television or hear about those who are, we are bewildered by this,
also. This happens because most people tend to avoid shocking discoveries and ... Show more content

His justification for this is that he thinks people should look behind the facades. For example, what
factors go into choosing students in the college admission process? At first, one might say Grade Point
Average, SAT scores, or extracurricular activities. These factors may play some part in determining
who is accepted and who is rejected from a college, but if you look beyond that, you could argue that
race, gender, and social class also have some impact on admitting students. Colleges and universities
are always looking for diversity. If one year a college has less Hispanic females than usual, then more
Hispanic females will be accepted into the college for the following year. This goes for any race,
gender, and class. It is important to look behind the facades of social structure because that is where

Contemporary Hippie Research Paper
The Contemporary Hippie byline We all heard the terms hippies, hips, or hipsters which happens to be
a counter culture group that started in the 60s. What is this kind of lifestyle and who are these people?
Well for starters contemporary hippies don t like any of those terms because they can be presumptuous
to them. What does it mean to be a hippie? For Serge Obuks, 20 with Latvian roots, it s a lifestyle in
which he can live free of any constraints opposite to what most people feel like these days. You re
probably wondering what this means? Well since 60 s culture is far behind us and the new mainstream

Catholic Reconciliation Essay
The Catholic Sacrament of Reconciliation is a foundation of the Catholic faith and of Christ s teaching
on earth, that forgiveness is vital to the ministry of God. This sacrament, however, is not the first
occurrence of a forgiveness ritual in history. In fact, forgiveness itself can be found in cultures before
Christ came down to earth. Three cultural groups, the Jews, the Taoists, and the Jains each have their
own version of an atonement ritual. However great these rituals are, the Catholic ritual of
Reconciliation/Penance/Confession is the best atonement ritual, and celebrates one of the central
human tenants of forgiveness of wrongdoings. The Jews have two ways of reconciliation, one with

Reconciliation is a communal activity that is, firstly, linked with God through the priest, unlike
Jainism; secondly, repeatable as often as necessary, unlike Judaism; and is less of a physical balancing
with the world and more of an atonement for the wrongdoings the sinner did unto those around them
as well as done towards God, unlike Taoism. All of these religious atonement rituals, however, point
to the fact that human beings are erring creatures that need to be forgiven of impurities in order to
better themselves on a spiritual level. From China to the Middle East and as far West as the globe will

Lowering The Voting Age Essay
Teenagers are the future of the world and should be given the right to make decisions that will impact
their futures too. Lowering the voting age will be a great benefit to the United States and 16 year olds
have a better understanding about the system than 18 year olds due to the education they are receiving
making them a little more mature to make the right decision to vote. The benefits of reducing the age
to 16 are the advantages teens get of learning how the voting system functions at an early age.
Lowering the voting age is a very argumental subject but teens will become more interested in voting
since it will be a big deal if they are allowed to vote. It is crucial for a teenager at 16 years old to be

one has in their bank account, but this only shows the immense emptiness that they have in their lives.
And the only way for them to be happy is by filling it up with the only object that only makes it

If appropriate, ask the person if they d like to review what you ve written so far.
Sidestep going AWOL in the first place. Set up a meeting with your advisor with the plan of having
the entire proposal done. If you realize, a few days before the meeting, that a complete draft won t be
possible, ask whether you can turn in an incomplete draft annotated with specific questions you have
about the gaps. If a journal editor asks for an estimated date for the revision, reply that you ll try to
return the manuscript within a month unless there are unforeseen problems. Then, if glitches arise, you
can contact the editor with a revised estimate of completion. Give yourself some leeway. If you tend to
run late, you might want to adopt the policy of don t ask don t tell : many academics I work with
volunteer deadlines even when it is unnecessary to do so. Perhaps you should keep your completion
goals to yourself.
Take extra steps to avoid AWOL when your absence will affect others. If you are late with a

with a group project, going AWOL has consequences for your colleagues. Put special effort into
promptness in these cases. For example, when you are writing a chapter for an edited volume, be sure

Ancient Egypt And Ancient Egyptian Civilization
known for its great pieces of art and architecture, advanced engineering skills, and even its use of
medicine. One of the most interesting parts of this culture was its belief in the afterlife. This belief was
so widely accepted and important to the people of Egypt that it influenced many aspects of their
everyday lives. The version of the afterlife that the Egyptians believed in was very different from
other religions and cultures. The immortality ideology is something that many cultures grappled with.
The ancient Egyptian belief was the epitome of immortality ideology. Everything that the Egyptians
did was influenced by the idea of an afterlife. This unique belief in the afterlife can be seen in Egypt s
many pieces of art and architecture including the Great Pyramids at Giza, the temple of Karnak, and
the Book of the Dead. These examples give a glimpse into the culture and religion of Egypt.
The timeline of ancient Egyptian civilization spanned from about 3000 BCE, when Egypt was united
under a single ruler, until about 30 BCE, when Queen Cleopatra died and Egypt was annexed by
Rome. This is the longest lasting civilization in history. Their way of life, advanced architecture, and
astute use of natural resources gave them the ability to last as long as they did. The Egyptians believed
that everything they did and produced was influenced by the Gods and thus affected their afterlife.
They believed that when a human died, they would continue to live on in the afterlife. This

Depression In Bartleby, The Scrivener And A Hunger Artist
Depression is a negative feeling of hopelessness and feeling like you don t belong. It can affect anyone
at anytime without warning. Being in such a depressed neurological state makes people act certain
ways and do certain things. According to the medical research group Mayo Clinic: Depression is a
mood disorder that causes a persistent feeling of sadness and loss of interest. Also called major
depressive disorder or clinical depression, it affects how you feel, think and behave and can lead to a

Reverse Social Engineering (RSE) [sw3]: This is a form of attack that overcomes the weakness of the pre texting attack mentioned above. Here the attacker presents himself as a high level authority so as to influence the victim to establish the contact and ask more questions instead of the attacker initiating the request. This is also termed as Quid pro quo in which the intruder provides some incentive that prompts the victim to reveal information which would not be disclosed otherwise. Reverse Social Engineering can be classified using their characteristics. i) Targeted/Untargeted: In case of a targeted attack, the attacker knows some predefined information about the victim and targets that particular user to extract information from him. In an untargeted attack, random set of users are targeted with a particular motive. ii) Direct/Mediated: In a direct attack, the intruder posts a message or any information directly on a public forum to bait the users into revealing information. In a mediated attack, baiting is carried out as a two step process involving an intermediate agent whose job is to propagate the bait to the targeted set of users. Based on the characteristics three different RSE attacks are possible. • 8. Literary Devices In Romeo And Juliet Romeo and Juliet Literary Analysis Essay Literary devices are reveal several details about characters in stories, movies, plays, and other writings. Oxymorons are two opposites placed right next to each other. A paradox is simply a oxymoron except seperated and placed in a sentence. Lastly, a juxtaposition is contrasting two objects such as characters, places, and even their actions. William Shakespeare successfully added all of these literary devices into his famous play Romeo and Juliet. Shakespeare indirectly revealed character traits for Romeo, Juliet, and Friar Laurence by using all three of these literary devices. Shakespeare used the figurative language to indirectly describe who Romeo is. Romeo and Mercutio argue with each other about the importance of dreams (1.4.11 103). During Mercutio s Queen Mab speech, it reveals that Romeo is a dreamer and Mercutio is not. This is a juxtaposition because Mercutio and Romeo have two different mindsets on dreams. It is a paradox because it talks about day in night which are two opposites in a sentence. Juliet tells the Nurse as she finds out Romeo is apart of the Montagues: My only love sprung from my only hate (1.5.136). This clarified that she is a risk taker and very rebellious for still wanting to love Romeo. • 9. Essay on Chronic Renal Failure Introduction Every human body contains one pair of kidneys. They are situated towards the back of the body under the ribs, just at the level of the waist, with one on each side of the body. Each kidney is composed of about one million units called nephrons, and each nephron consists of two parts: a filter, called the glomerulus and a tubule leading out from the nephrons (Cameron 1999). According to Marshall and Bangert (2008), the kidneys have three major functions: firstly, the kidneys excrete waste from plasma in the blood. Secondly, they maintain extracellular fluid volume and composition. Lastly, the kidneys play a role in hormone synthesis. There are many diseases that might infect the kidneys and affect their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, when the kidneys stop working completely, the situation known as end stage renal failure (ESRF) occurs in CRF. Some diseases may cause CRF when patients are infected for a long time. Diabetes Mellitus One of the diseases that can cause CRF is diabetes mellitus, a major cause of renal failure. This disease can be defined as an increase in fasting blood glucose as a result of a deficiency in insulin, which is a hormone. The normal range for glucose (fasting) in the blood is 2.8 6.0 mmol/L. Diabetes Mellitus is classified into two groups: type 1 (insulin dependent) and type 2 (non insulin dependent). The difference between them is that, in type 1, the body does not produce enough insulin, but in type 2 the body does not make effective use of this hormone. Stein (2008, p. 6) points out that kidney failure most often occurs when patients have suffered from diabetes mellitus for more than 10 years. According to a report by the U.S. Renal Data System (USRDS) in 2007, the cause of approximately 44% of renal failure in 2005 was diabetes mellitus. Stein (2008) also indicates that 15% of dialysis patients are influenced by diabetes mellitus in the United Kingdom. Diabetes mellitus has negative effects on the kidneys, where the increase in range of blood sugar causes damage to kidney cells, in particular the nephrons. This can ... • 10. Literary Point Of Forshadowing In Monkey s Paw The author of The Monkey s Paw, W.W. Jacobs uses many literary techniques to create suspense. The story is about an old man named Mr. White who gets a monkey s paw with magical powers, he wishes for 200 pounds. He also loses his son during the process. To create suspense and convey the point of the story Jacobs uses literary techniques such as, mood, imagery, and foreshadowing. One of the first techniques he uses is foreshadowing. Before Sergeant Major Morris gives Mr. White the paw, he describes the fakir who cursed the paw, he said, He wanted to show that fate ruled people s lives and those who interfered with it so did their sorrow (paragraph 26). This evidence reveals that the paw is cursed by a fakir who wants to teach people a lesson about interfering with fate when they wish for things that aren t destined to happen. Because of this the reader can conclude that the wishes will not have the desired outcome. In addition, when the whites inquire more about the paw, Morris throws it into the fire and warns them of the consequences after Mr. White quickly retrieves it (paragraph 31 and 44). The reader can infer from this that Morris doesn t want Mr. White to have the paw. However, Mr. White reaches his hand in the fire and risks burning himself to retrieve the paw. You can also tell from this that Morris had such a bad experience with the paw that he wants to destroy it. After that, Mr. White asks Morris about the first person to have the paw, Morris s response was ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. Examples Of Queer Theory In The Great Gatsby Ryann Alyssa Peebles November 8, 2017 Literally Analysis Paper Ernie Abyetia ENGL100A_FA_2017 Queer theory is a post structuralist theory that emerged in the early 1990s from the fields of queer and women s studies. The theory builds on both feminist challenges to the idea that gender is part of the essential self and upon gay and lesbian studies close examination of the socially constructed nature of sexual activity and identities. This theory focuses on the mismatches between sex, gender, and desire. Queerness has been prominently identified as bisexual, lesbian, and gay people, although it also includes different categories such as cross dressing, intersex bodies and identities, gender ambiguity and gender corrective surgery. The queer theory is an attempt to expose the different lifestyles that people may be unaware of and to give them several categories in the LGBTQ community to look at; correlates sexes, genders, and sexualities out of specifically lesbian and gay. One of these examples of queer analysis is in F. Scott Fitzgerald s The Great Gatsby. The narrative progression in the novel is stationed around Jay Gatsby s deep love for Daisy Fay Buchanan and the three overlapping heterosexual love triangles: Gatsby Daisy Tom, Tom Myrtle George, Myrtle Tom Daisy. This heterosexual plot is indeed shadowed by a homoerotic subtext but with all the twists and turns of the novel. • 15. The Negative Consequences Of Socrates Socrates (467 399) was the first poor philosopher. He is well known for dialoguing and entering into study by asking questions, which is the basis for the Socratic Method. Also known for vehemently speaking out againstwriting, Socrates never wrote any of his philosophies down. He believed that writing made people intellectually lazy, and instead of expanding their capacity for memory, made it smaller. This is a very interesting thing to consider, since many people will write things down instead of committing them to memory because it is easier. Socrates was against the teaching of ideas without dialogue, which he believed writing tried to attempt by preventing people from really engaging the subject matter on their own. However, I think that the benefits of writing far outweigh the negative consequences of it. Without writing, humans would have a limited way of passing information on, especially in communication with those in other parts of the world, and in the future. Interesting, as a result of his distaste for writing, any information about Socrates philosophies that we have come from other people who recorded his ideas, most notably Plato (427 347). Plato decided to write out Socrates many dialogues, even though he knew of Socrates critique of writing. Next, these rocks undergo erosion, which is the process of moving sediments from one place to another. Then, these sediments are deposited all at one place and over time they start to converge and cement as layers which are also known as strata. As time keeps going, new sediments deposit and cement together over old ones forming new layers. This is a repetitive process that eventually build up layers to make up a Sedimentary rock. Approximately 40 major sedimentary rock layers exposed in the Grand Canyon National Park area range in age from about 200 million to nearly 2 billion years old. As you can see, sedimentary rock formation takes an excessive amount of time. So you now know how sedimentary rocks are formed and how the Colorado River majorly eroded all the rock creating canyons. But here comes the million dollar question: where did all the rocks come from? The answer to that question is The Continental Drift. The Earth s continents are not fixed in place, but rather float on a sea of molten rock, meaning that they move around quite a bit. Over 250 million years, that quite a bit can turn into land masses moving thousands of miles. Moreover, the Earth is made up of 20 Tectonic plates. Seven of these plates are very large and consist of entire continents or sea floors. The plate that the Grand Canyon is located on is called The North American Plate . Puzo s early novels, The Dark Arena and The Fortunate Pilgrim, exhibit the realistic narrative style typical of his later fiction and are considered minor classics of Italian American literature. The Dark Arena talks about an American soldier who came back to a occupied Germany after the Second World War. Introducing the theme of violent retribution, Puzo s protagonist kills a black market drug supplier to show his rage at government , corruption in postwar Europe, and his own failure to secure lifesaving medication for his German girlfriend. In The Fortunate Pilgrim, Puzo takes us to Hell s kitchen and talks about the experiences of an Italian woman who struggles to surmount poverty and crime. Though extolling her courage, cunning, and traditional values Puzo s description of petty criminal activity in the poor Italian American neighbourhood offers ironic justification for the life of crime as an alternate means of achieving the American Dream. The themes that are central to Mario Puzos Godfather are criminal legitimacy and revenge, in which Puzo chronicles the ascent of the Corleone Mafia family under the leadership of Don Vito Corleone, a criminal mastermind, and his sons. Drawing parallels to American corporate structure, Don Vito s benevolent authority is founded on supreme organizational control, calculated judgment, and swift retaliation against all enemies of the family, including traitors and the incompetent within the clan as well as members of opposing factions. In The Godfather Puzo begins to explore the dubious status of organized crime as a self sufficient social entity governed by its own hallowed customs and rigid codes of behavior, particularly personal honour and loyalty. Last Orders By Graham Swift Last Orders by Graham Swift is a novel that tells the story of four men as they carry out the last wishes of the recently deceased Jack Dodds: that his ashes be scattered into the sea at Margate, a sea his family frequently visited. The story follows the four men on their journey to the sea through the eyes of Ray Johnson, one of Jack s war buddies. The novel is also composed of flashbacks through the eyes of several of the characters in the novel. The three other men, Vince Dodds, Lenny Tate, and Vic Tucker, are influential to the plot as they are all used to narrate flashbacks, as well. In Last Orders, Graham Swift uses these flashbacks to show how the characters are shaped by each other; he does this through the characters occupations and hobbies, relationships between couples, and relationships between parents and children. One way Swift introduces the characters to his audience is through their occupations. Despite his being dead, Jack remains the central character in the novel as many of the flashbacks reference Jack s occupation, a butcher. Jack is forced to be a butcher because he must carry on the family business, but it is revealed by Ray what he really wanted was to be a doctor (Swift 33). Given this, Jack shows ambivalence throughout the flashbacks about being a butcher. Alexandra Marginean contends that Jack praises the occupation as dignifying and manly, but at the same time resents it (272). However ambivalent he may be, Jack shows that he has ...
