Looking back on every class, every book, every professor, every experience and every friend that has
brought me to where I am today; graduating with my Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies with
a concentration in applied communication from Kent State University, I feel overwhelmed with
gratitude. I am going to demonstrate my reflections on my learning experiences, the connections
between my coursework, internship experience, and growth as a communicator while focusing on the
power that education has in my life.
My journey began at Lakeland Community College (LCC) in Kirtland, Ohio in 2011. I started taking
general courses, not knowing which direction would be the best for me to go into. This would be my
greatest obstacle to overcome, but I knew with certainty that I would soon find out which direction to
set sail in. I spent two years at LCC and gained confidence in my abilities and suddenly realized my
great potential through all the doors that education started to open for me. I had an amazing
opportunity to enter a speaking competition at LCC and placed in first. I realized when my goal was to
give the audience an impactful message and was not focused on winning, that communication was one
of my strongest assets and greatest passion. Discovering this was a primary blessing and actually

was no doubt to reach a conclusion, he was right; so, his process of radical doubt is fully employed in
his Meditations. Dismissing all knowledge that could be doubted however slight, Descartes sought out

Gaming has been a large part of Nevada s history, and has become an even larger part of our economy.
In the early years of state hood Nevada struggled with the question of whether or not gaming should
be legal. We see the first government involvement in the industry in 1864, before Nevada was even a
state. The territorial legislature of the time outlawed any game of chance. In order to enforce the ban
penalties were to be levied on anyone caught playing any game of chance. It is not until 1869, 5 years
later, that we see certain forms of gaming become decriminalized. From 1869 to 1911 these games of
chances remained legal, and the government played a minimal role in the regulation or control of the
industry. Once again, in 1911 a progressive movement succeeded in criminalizing gaming in Nevada

illustration of the vulnerability and defeat of the impetuous and manipulative titular character. Ibsen
develops Hedda s character by uncovering details about the conflicts between Hedda and the other
characters, Judge Brack, Mrs Elvsted, and George Tesman which highlight Hedda s transformation
from an individualistic to despairing individual, conveying the theme of freedom and repression in

Through this stage direction, Ibsen highlights the objectification of women. In many aspects, George
Tesman too does not see Hedda s full value as a person, and from the beginning of the play, Ibsen
makes this clear. Tesman adores rather than love his wife, proudly viewing her as an object of
adornment that makes several of his friends jealous. A scholar who is more devoted to his work than
his wife, Tesman spends more time with his books than his wife, even during their honeymoon. In this
passage, Ibsen further illustrates this objectification of women. Tesman turns his head away from her
because he believes there is nothing in the world (32) that Hedda can help Tesman with; Hedda is
merely an ornament and not of real use to Tesman. Ibsen s use of stage direction that depicts Tesman
turning his head after talking to Hedda both indicate Tesman s rejection of Hedda as a valuable person
and his obliviousness to Hedda and her desperate situation. Tesman s imperceptiveness is further
highlighted by Ibsen when Hedda imitates Tesman s intonation (16). Also, Hedda s mimicking of
Tesman, which is used earlier in the play as a sign of her contempt, is also used here in this passage by
Ibsen to portray Hedda s desperation. That Hedda would turn to Tesman, a person she dislikes and
views as beneath her, as a means of escape, is a clear indication of her despondency and madness,
which foreshadow her ultimate act of despair suicide. Yet Tesman thoughtlessly
