French Resistance Research Paper
The French Resistance May 1940, Hitler and his German army invaded France, it would only take a
little over a month before France would surrender to Hitler s Germany and the Nazi Party. The
German occupation of France not only expanded the Nazi s territory, but it also encouraged many
French citizens to rise up and go against Hitler and his cruel rule. From young to old, around one
hundred thousand men and women, by 1944, took up arms and fought against the occupation. Not all
the resistance fighters were violent though, some helped by just gathering intelligence and spying, but
the Maquis were more focused on hunting down the Nazis. After France s surrender Charles de Gaulle
urged the French to keep fighting the Germans. Right after France s surrender there ... Show more

Gender in African Women´s Writing Essay
The identity of African women juxtaposed to the Western women s identity is a hard concept for one
to grasp. The word feminism is merely looked at from one perspective, the western perspective. The
reality of feminism is that everywhere in the world has a different idea of what feminism is defined as
and what it should look like. However there is one central theme that applies to feminists around the
world, which is a feminist is someone who goes against traditional roles of a woman in their society to
better their gender as a whole.
These strong, and independent African women authors use insightful and educational language, which
invites the western world to be a part of their world through the power of literature. One of the ...

However, the African feminist is a woman who does not stay In a loveless marriage, she does not
allow herself to remain uneducated, and she certainly does not allow herself to be categorized as a
minority. In order for a woman to achieve these goals she has to take extreme risks and jeopardize the
one life she knows. The term rebel has been used often when African women describe themselves and
from their definition a rebel is a feminist. In Aidoo s, Changes we are introduced to a woman who has
so much self respect for herself that she transforms herself into an African feminist. She takes a
modern stance on femininity and this is refreshing change. This woman refuses to be walked all over
by some man who tells her what she can and cannot do. She leaves the life she knows and risks it all
in order to be free and feel that no one is judging her for having a high paying job as a female. Women
are often worried how other females will judge them and or be jealous of their accomplishments. It is
women like this that make women all over the world see the many possibilities that lay before them,
no matter what their current situation.
Women in Africa who do not rebel and sadly do not become a feminist are grouped in a category that
one could consider as the outsiders . Women who fear to be feminists fall into a trap, which becomes a
vicious cycle and makes it almost impossible for them

The Issue Of The Gay Liberation Movement
Although the gay liberation movement had very little impact at that time, it set the stage for bigger and
better changes in the future. Since the 1960 s America has added, removed, and adjusted laws against
homosexuals. On May 17, 2004, Massachusetts becomes the first state in the United State to legalize
same sex marriage. The Massachusetts Chief Justice concluded, to deny the protections, benefits, and
obligations conferred by civil marriage to gay couples was unconstitutional because it denied the
dignity and equality of all individuals and made them second class citizens. Now 37 states have
legalized same sex marriage and 13 states have laws that still prohibit it. A year before the state of
Massachusetts decided to legalize same sex ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

certification was given after a long period of preparation but according to Elizabeth Bumiller,
Pentagon officials said that more than 1.9 million of 2.2 million active duty and reserve service men

and Pentagon officials seek these training sessions. The hypothetical situations help them become

eliminating any negative attitudes they may have towards homosexuals. Along with some of the
positive changes that are occurring in the United States, such as the Don t Ask, Don t Tell policy

Alopecia Case Studies
I have been treating Evan Daniels since 1998, when I diagnosed him with a severe case of Alopecia
areata multilocularis, comonly known as Alopecia or Alopecia areata. Alopecia is an autoimmune
mutation where the white blood cells deem certain hair folicles as a virus and proceed to attack them.
Regularly, the symptoms of Alopecia include spots of baldness, white indentions on the fingernails,
and lightened patches of skin. This is usually not a serious disease.
However, in Evan s case, his immune system severely reacts to this mutation, causing the rest of his
body to act as if it is fighting a very severe virus, as a normal body might react to the flu, or a severe
cold. His symptoms include quick, seemingly random feverish outbreaks, emmense

A Modest Proposal for Methanol and Ethanol Powered Cars We need more stringent regulations on

driving so much, pollution wouldn t be so bad... People have long recognized the problems with the
gasoline we used now. We have tried everything from putting regulations on emissions, to putting
additives in the gasoline (only to discover later that MTBE got into the groundwater), to campaigns to

To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government should
use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the production of
alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons why we have not
converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon than gasoline. However,
new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly smaller costs. Methanol, a high
performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be produced at prices comparable to the prices
of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the
past few years, gas prices have been increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down.
However, the introduction of an inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of
power and give consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would
harm the economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as
third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has no
right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Besides, it is not the responsibility of the
United States to provide markets for all companies in the world. Markets come and go, and

The Heroic Complexity Of The Human Heart
The human heart is by far one of the most complex units science has ever studied. The Cleveland
Clinic states the heart is made up of four chambers, and is encased by a double walled sac called the
Pericardium. On average the heart beats one hundred thousand times a day. It circulates blood through
two pathways: the pulmonary and systemic circuit. The heart contains electrical cells that make it
contract making a heartbeat. I could go on forever about the mosaic complexity of the human heart.
You see, that is what intrigues me, the complexity of the heart. The perplexity of people. The
miraculous factors that make up the human body. Like the heart, the face of medicine is also intricate.
It is beautiful, yet tragic. Is is ugly. yet fulfilling.

Tutankhamun was an Egyptian pharaoh of the 18th dynasty 1332 1323 BC, during the period of
Egyptian history which was known as the New Kingdom or the New Empire Period. He has been
referred to colloquially as King Tut of Egypt. His original name, Tutankhaten, has a meaning Living
Image of Aten , while Tutankhamun means Living Image of Amun . In hieroglyphs, the name
Tutankhamun was typically written Amun tut ankh, to show reverence to the divine name of Amun.
He is possibly also the Nibhurrereya according to the Amarna letters, and likely the 18th dynasty king

What Is The Theme Of Anger
Anger is an emotional state to express feelings such as indignation that may range in intensity from
mild irritation to intense fury and rage, according to Charles Spielberger, a psychologist who
specializes in the study of anger. Anger can destroy man s life and make him live in misery forever, so
anger has been fed by feelings of disappointment, hurt, rejection, and embarrassment. Anger may
consider useful for psychopaths in order to express their inside feelings. The expression of anger can
be through active or passive behaviors. In the case of active emotion, the angry person lashes out
verbally or physically at a target. When anger is a passive emotion it is characterized by silent sulking,
passive aggressive behavior, hostility and tension (Clausen 7). Anger can also be caused as irritation
escalates during exposure to an annoyance.
Moreover, Anger has three components, physical reactions, behavior, and mismanaged anger. Anger is

Sources Of PMS Dual Problem Of Plattsburgh Motor Service
1. Part1: Sources of PMS Dual Problem (Stagnant Sales Declining Profits):
Plattsburgh Motor Service (PMS) s dual problem of stagnant sales and declining profits are normal
symptoms associated with the industry s current stage in the product life cycle which is the maturity
stage. According to McGraw Hill s essentials of marketing book, the market maturity stage occurs
when industry sales level off and competition gets tougher the industry s profit declines because the
promotion costs increase, price reduction strategies are applied by competition to attract customers
(2010, p. 223). Thus, the possible sources for PMS problem can be classified as external (competition

The Hr Manager Of A Company

and Critical Incident Technique . Functional Job Analysis is a standard process that can be used to
appraise various jobs. One can use this method by creating task statements and then rates each task
statements on its orientation and level with regard to data, people and things. Orientation is deliberated
by assigning 100 perecent points across three functional areas to point to how much of each is

The pros of PAQ is that it has been endorsed and is deemed valuable in research, practice, and
extensive assortments of applications. It has been used in a variety of personnel functions including
compensation and training, its predominantly useful in determining the capability and qualities
necessary to perform the job. The cons of PAQ is that many objects are irrelevant, a great portion of
items are unsuitable for managerial and professional jobs as it engages only use of machines and
equipment. The PAG method can also be somewhat complex to use. The Critical Incident Technique
The critical incidents technique can be defined as a set of procedures for methodically identifying
behaviors that add to the success or failure of individuals or organizations in specific situations. The
pros of the critical incident technique is that its best at determining vital features of the job, another
advantage is that It s flexible and the information can easily be collected, the respondent speaks
without restraint, and it focuses on day to day actions. In addition, it s not expensive and will aid in
finding out a lot of significant information. This technique can be applied by only using the
questionnaire , conducting an interview is not necessary. The cons of this method is propensity to trait
events in the job to the character of the person, misunderstanding between the personality and
behaviors which depend on the phrasing and the language of the

A Good Candidate For A Total Knee Replacement
There are several factors that go into considering if you may be a good candidate for a Total Knee
Replacement. One of the most common causes could be due to all forms of arthritis; such as
osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and even post traumatic arthritis. Osteoarthritis is the most
common reason for needing a Total Knee Replacement. Arthritis can severely damage an individual s
knee, causing massive pain. However, the first approach is trying the nonsurgical treatments first.
Medications and even using walking supports are usually the first approach before considering
surgery. When these methods fail to work the very next step is for surgery. Total Knee Replacements
are the most successful procedures in all of medicine, accounting for 600,000 knee replacements each
year in the US. The knee is the largest joint in the body, which is why it s very important to have
healthy knees in order to get around to perform daily activities. The knee consist of the lower femur,
the upper end of the tibia, and the patella. The ends of the three bones touch, which is covered with
articular cartilage, this is a smooth substances that protects the bones and enables them to move
smoothly. Also, located between the femur and tibia are the menisci. The menisci are C shaped
wedges that act as shock absorbers this provides cushion for the joint as well. Then, the large
ligaments also play a role as well, they hold the femur and tibia together to provide stability. The long

Examples Of Atonement In The Rime Of The Ancient Mariner
In the poem The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Coleridge uses the method of storytelling to
acknowledge and implement the reader into the situations that the Mariner faces. Coleridge does this
by implementing vivid imagery into his poem to create a tale that we the readers can easily follow
such as the tales we tell one another today to learn or understand different concepts in modern day life.
The concept of sin and atonement are the allegories that we learn about in The Rime of the Ancient

one faces helps lead to the forgiveness the Mariner learns to find within himself. The poem contains

attempted to prevent piracy through DNS blocking and censorship. The legislation caused the protest
and blackout of multiple online internet services including Reddit, 4Chan, Google, Wikipedia,
Mozilla, and Tumblr. Now, internet users are faced with another possible challenge called the Cyber
Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, or CISPA. CISPA was quickly passed by the House of

The Wiretap Act prohibits the government from intentional interception, use, or disclosure of wire and
electronic communications without a warrant. Similarly, the Electronic Communications Privacy Act
protects wire, oral, and electronic communications while in transit (Franklin). Some may wonder how
the government is able to override such laws that come to make America what it is today, a nation
noted for its religious and intellectual freedom, and the answer is national security. Anything is
possible in order to increase national security and eliminate any threats.
Not to mention that as long as participants of CISPA exchange information with good intentions, they
will not be held to any criminal or civil liabilities and become one hundred percent anonymous in the
process (PopVox). This may incentivize private companies to release users information without a
thought regarding the authenticity of the threat due to convenience. After information is shared with
the federal government, the data is stored and is able to be used for any purpose beyond preserving the
national security. Some usages include immigration and crime. At the same time, users are also not
required to be notified by either the private company or the government when their information is
exchanged. Due to such concerns, many activist websites that opposed SOPA, including

Essay On Hotel Rwanda
Terry Georges film Hotel Rwanda focuses deeply into the life of Paul Rusesabagina, of whom Is also
identified as the hotel manager who saved the lives of 1200 Tutsis and Tutsi supporters. It sparks
awareness to the 1994 massacre that was carried out by the Hutu rebels in Rwanda. The film allows
viewers to engage in the issue through its emotional and intense screenplay. New York Times critic
Stephen Holding brands Hotel Rwanda on the entertainment aspect of violence and emotions, but
ignores the true human nature of the Rwandan Genocide.
Holding argues that Hotel Rwanda radically downplays the actual gore, which is observed through a
film or from a distance. Bodies are strewn everywhere, but the streets don t run with blood, and no
hideous mutilation is shown. Even the beatings seem tentative. This is true and is seen when Paul
Rusesabagina and his driver, Gregoire, go out to get supplies for the Hotel. This particular scene is
very foggy and when Paul steps out of the vehicle, he sees that there are dead bodies surrounding him.
Hotel Rwanda is a rated PG 13 film. Thus, includes a mostly non graphic depiction of the genocide.
However, contrary to what Holding says, it is not a flaw. Due to the film being less violent, it allows
for younger viewers to be exposed to the issue, rather than a smaller audience. The primary focus of
the film is not the act of killing itself, rather the fact that there was a genocide. The fact itself that
800,00 people died simply for being part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Essay on Deadbeat Dads are Not Criminals
Fathers every year in Washington go to jail for nothing more than being broke (Deadbeat). They are
called dead beat dads by their peers, scorn by society, and treated as subclass citizens (THE,

women make the choices which result in babies. However, women are given a choice at every stage of
the child s development to adopt out, abort, or even use contraception (Why). Thus, men and women

Unfortunately, $540 wasn t enough for the DA who threatened jail time if he could not come up with
$2500 (Miller). As a result, Robin Miller refused to sign any order and kept the money he was going
to pay (Miller). Miller believed he would need this money in order to pay for representation (Miller).
The next case I submit to you is that of Andre F. Braxton. Braxton was in court for a child support
debt of $61,000 (Deadbeat). Under the pressure of this debt Braxton made a $1,500 payment to the
courts then fled the court room (Deadbeat). Deputies reported that Braxton never returned to his home
(Deadbeat). As can be seen, I do not make these claims lightly. Both of these men were absolutely
intent on paying their obligations; however, in both cases the men could not pay as much as the state
demanded. As a result of this, one man ran and another withheld his payment. Were these men not
under threat of loss of liberty (arrest), they may have been able to continue paying support obligations
to a lesser degree. However, under the threat of arrest these men can no longer make any support
payments. Finally, were these men to have been arrested, the result would have been the same.
Next, I reason that child support is not a man s obligation at all. The reason men are expected to pay
support dates back to colonial days when the woman stayed home, and the man provided for her and
the children (Colonial). In this era, the woman had no options and no means of

The Story Of The 12 Spies
The story of the 12 spies seems to be a story of doubtfulness. Everyone has a sense of doubt because
we are human beings. Life is full of obstacles that you must get over. All obstacles are able to be
conquered, however our most mighty warrior is God. He must learn to not doubt his ability to bring us
through the many storms he places before us. He uses these storms to test our faithfulness in Him.
In this part of the book of Numbers, the spies are sent to look into the land that had been promised to
His people. The part that stood out was the two different stories that came back and how the ten spies
had no faith in the ability of God s promise.
Time after time, God proved to the people of Israel that nothing could defeat them if they just believed
in His word and be faithful to His will. The Lord promised Abraham that his people would be a
mighty nation, Abraham believed and was one of God s most faithful servants.
God used Moses to bring the people out from under the enslavement of Pharaoh. He brought them
through the Red Sea, however the people still doubted that God was powerful enough to bring them to
their own inheritance that waited for them.
The people of Israel, just like people of today, were impatient. Everyone wants instant gratification. In
my workplace, we have new employees that have worked there less than six months and feel they are
entitled to the same things as the employees that have put in work for ten years and over.

Research Paper On Putin
Political Profile: Russian President Vladimir Putin Placing Vladimir Putin accurately on the political
spectrum presents several challenges. First, Russia s political system does not conform to western
norms and therefore the standard definitions are not always appropriate. Putin, who spent a career in
the KGB, is seen as highly secretive. He does not make frequent public speeches, and in general,
Russian leaders do not typically feel the need to explain policy decisions or their rationale to the
general populace. This makes it difficult to determine to what degree necessity and practicality
motivates Putin s decisions versus his own political philosophy. The lack of transparency in the
Russian system further precludes detailed assessment or evaluation of leaders and their decisions such
as would be demanded in western democracies. The Russian state owns 85% of the national media,
rendering independent and unbiased scrutiny impossible. For all these reasons, Putin is enigmatic to
most of the world outside his own country and therefore determining his personal political philosophy
is not an easy task.

For centuries, women in England and the Americans were seen as objects. Women were looked at as
the weaker sex and as inferior (less than) to men. Men have always been perceived as the stronger sex,
having the superiority and power over women. Traditionally, men were the authoritarians and the
heads of the household. However, the roles for women have changed in both America and England. As
time progresses, women have gain control of their rights and attained some gender equality in society
such as working outside their homes and having an education. One way of examining this change is in
Gothic fiction by looking at how women have evolved themselves from the patriarchal culture.

How Is Japanese Internment Justified
Japanese Internment
Executive Order 9066 was issued on February 19, 1942, by President Roosevelt, two months after the
attack on Pearl Harbor. It declared that any and all persons could be detained and taken off of the West
Coast due to military necessity. Executive Order 9066 was established because on December 7, 1941,
Japan struck a United States Naval Base in Honolulu, Hawaii killing 2,043 Americans and injuring
1,000 more American citizens. They struck the United States with bombs trying to destroy their
battleships and their army. One day after the attack, the United States declared war on the Japanese
Empire. Immediately following the attack on Pearl Harbor, the internment of Japanese Americans was

The United States had just been infiltrated by Japanese forces causing an attack on Pearl Harbor,
Hawaii and they were in a state of emergency. The United States was worried that Japanese American
citizens would be loyal to their descendant country and they did not want anyone to be able to further
sabotage the United States in World War II. Leland Ward, a governmental representative for
California, argued that the internment was justified in January of 1942, To prevent any fifth column
activity...all Japanese, whether citizens or not, be placed in inland concentration camps (Document A).
The government wanted to prevent spying, or fifth column activity, from occurring while the United
States was in a fragile state. This was for the well being of the country because if the United States
took a chance on spies and sabotage, it could lead to further destruction. In conclusion, the internment
was justified because the United States could not afford another attack on one of their military

Individual Project: Manager Interviews
Executive Summary/Introduction
As a process, management is a series of connected functions. Management does not take place in any
particular order; it is a continuous process in which managers adjust what they are doing if a situation
requires them to do so. The management process consists of the four functions, planning, organizing,
and controlling, performed in order to achieve business objectives. The management function of
planning is the practice of setting performance goals and identifying what actions should be used to
meet them. The function of organizing includes assembling duties, individuals, and other ... Show

In this essay I will be discussing the life of President James Monroe. We will talk about his life at
home, where he grew up, what he did in the Revolutionary War, and his time as president of the
United States of America. First we will talk about James parents.
James parents were pretty good parents and kind people. His parents names were Spence and
Elizabeth Monroe (biography.com). James was their first child. Spence family emigrated from
Scotland in the mid 1600s to America were he became a prosperous planter and carpenter

For work James really just worked at home with his father in his early years. Working with his dad,
James learned how to plant and be a carpenter and all the typical duties of working on a farm. James
was not very good at working a farm. He was more of an educated man. When he had learned all his
mother could really teach him and he finished his school at home he went to collage. James went to
collage at the Collage of William and Mary and was a good student (totallyhistory.com). James was a

New Road Bikes On Friday Morning
Doris and I ride our new road bikes on Friday morning. For ten minutes we warm up, and then, pedal

The Positive Side Of The Internet
HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 1
Right from the inception of the Internet in 1969, there has been a drastic increase in its growth. Over
the years the world has become more and more dependent on the internet due to its ease in
accessibility, reduced cost and tons of information in all fields. As there are two sides to coins, there
are two sides to this both positive and negative with respect to its impact on people. The positive side
to the internet with reference to Dr.Leonard Klienrock lecture at infocom 2006 is that it has removed
the barrier in between the people, increased the speed of interaction and reduced cost of receiving
access to the technology. This has increased to a larger extent in the past 9 years; from receiving a data
speed from 50kbps to 1Gbps or maybe beyond is a noticeable example of advancement in the Internet.
The internet was basically invented to transfer resourceful information among a group of researchers.
Over the years humans have begun looking at it in a different angle which has made it a part of our
lives. The internet has affected the people personal, economic and social life profoundly. An example
more than 1.5 billion people (apart from the rest use the internet)as of today use Facebook which
surely proves two things, one nearly 25% of the world s population have access to the internet and
two, 25% of the people can interact with each other with just a click. The internet has brought people
under one roof and made the world smaller. The other name I

Human Trafficking in the United States
Products from all over the world are being distributed and sold from other countries to people in the
United States. Imports and exports to and from the U.S include products as wide ranged as food,
clothes, and even people. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem, including the United States.
Currently, there are approximately 20.9 million people enslaved throughout the world with 2.5 million
located in the United States. About 14,500 17,500 of foreign nationals are trafficked into the United
States every year (Human trafficking statistics). These statistics show that slavery is still alive and
flourishing throughout the entire world. When humans are exchanged, exploited, and forced into
prostitution, and involuntary labor, it is called human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very serious
problem which has been going on for centuries; I believe spreading awareness is imperative to solving
this ongoing problem. There has been many government attempts to try to alleviate this problem in the
past with the Emancipation Proclamation, the Thirteenth Amendment, Out of the 20.9 million people
that are enslaved in the world, more than 70 percent are female and half are children (Human
trafficking statistics). Approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation and many
victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children (Human trafficking statistics).
Although the government has tried numerous things to stop human trafficking, it is still happening.

How To Prevent Prison Population
The prison population rises each year. This increasing trend has been directly linked to the reoccurring
arrests of released prisoners. Some people believe that there is not an answer to fixing this problem.
However, research and studies show that there is an answer to the reoccurring problem. Even with this
conclusion, there continues to be many opinions on what should or should not be done to prevent the
prison population from continuing to rise on a yearly basis. Most people who are incarcerated will
only be there for a period of time before release. The majority of the prison population will be released
at some point. Some will serve shorter sentences than others. Only a small percentage of prisoners

ABSTRACT
This study focused on The Role of Achievement Motivation in Industrial development: A study of Port
Harcourt Municipal. The onus of the research was to X ray the extent to which the role of achievement
motivation from childhood could be instrumental to industrial development in Nigerian. In addition,
some of the major objectives were to discover if the values of a given soda economic milieu and
achievement motivation could have a blend and affect a nation s level of industrial development; to
unravel the existence of low level of achievement values and lack of industrial growth.
The researcher raised some hypothesis. These hypotheses were to establish if there is a significant
relationship between the inability to inculcate achievement motivation in an individual and low level
of its contribution to industrial development later in life; also to find out, if the more a family
inculcates achievement values in a child through socialization, the more, or the higher the tendencies
for the child to work hard and contribute meaningfully to industrial development.
Volumes of literature strictly related to the study/topic were reviewed and the need

A Good Man Is Hard To Find Character Analysis Essay
You wouldn t shoot a lady, would you? the grandmother said and removed a clean handkerchief from
her cuff and began to slap her eyes with it (O Connor 88). The Misfit pointed the tip of his shoe into
the ground and made a little hole and then covered it up again. I would hate to have to, he said
(paragraph 89). The Grandmother is one of the major characters in A Good Man is Hard to Find a
short story written by Flannery O Conner in 1955. Throughout the story the grandmother shows
evidence of personality disorders, emotionlessness, and controlling character traits. It s the
grandmother s lack of self awareness about these characteristics that leads to the death of the family.

Similarities Between As I Lay Dying And For Whom The Bell...
In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the way
that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we examine the
motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest Hemingway and
William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways. Hemingway was heavily
affected by his experiences in World War I and the Spanish Civil War. These events greatly influenced
Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5). Conversely, Faulkner grew up in the
deep south of Mississippi, and his life in the south heavily influenced his writing of As I Lay Dying
(4). The two authors and their stories may vary, but these ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One of the most central character relationships in both surrounds hostility between characters that
should otherwise be friends. In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the relationship
between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie. In For Whom the
Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The hostility that these
character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to Anse because she
believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving her. Darl is hostile to
Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that Jewel was unfairly given love
(so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for Pablo because he believes that Pablo
will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility between characters is also similar in the fact the
we do not always know the reasoning or the outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel,
we do not know why Addie acted the way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated
Jewel the way that he did. We will never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected
the story. Perhaps Robert Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow
of the group. The similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great
similarity between the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love
that Maria and Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open,
while Addie refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only
said, and did not show, that he loved her. This contrast might be shown as a difference, but the
opposite appears to be true. The love that Maria and Robert have is really

Essay on American Philosophy
American Philosophy
In all its forms, American philosophy emphasizes freedom and the supreme importance of the
individual. Indeed, an examination of four major American writers shows these concepts in all four
main schools of American thought Epicureanism, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, and Protestantism.
Epicureanism is the pursuit of pleasure in order to avoid pain. This philosophy is very American. One
of the most famous American Epicureans is Walt Whitman. Whitman is, perhaps, America s greatest
poet. He was an ardent supporter of freedom and democracy. His poetry not only reflected his love
and respect for America, but also the importance and the needs of the individual. Whitman s love for
America stems from the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Many of Whitman s poems contain graphic sex scenes. By describing his own feelings, Whitman
hoped to encourage other Americans to pursue their own feelings in a country that allowed it.
Transcendentalism is another American philosophy that also deals heavily with the individual.
Transcendentalists believed formalized society oppressed the individual. Thus, they strove to create a
doctrine that stressed the importance of the individual. Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested this idea in
his book Nature. Emerson maintains that man is one with Nature and Nature is one with God,
therefore giving the ordinary individual validity and worth. These two qualities are attributes that
every American is familiar with and has a desire for. Another Transcendental concept is the phrase
Trust Thyself. Transcendentalists believed that human nature is essentially good; thus, an individual
should rely on his or her intuition. This concept may be the reason for Americans hating to admit that
they are wrong. Pragmatism is also a philosophy that is deeply embedded in American culture.
Pragmatism is a doctrine which tests truth by its practical consequences. William James was the most
influential American pragmatic philosopher. James used pragmatism to solve the problems that
interfered with the individuals feeling at home in the universe. James concluded that philosophy was
only useful if one could use it to better his or her life. Americans today think the

The Epidemic Of The Measles Epidemic
With the effective work carried out by all agencies involved in the measles epidemic, the outbreak was
declared over on July 2rd 2013 this is thought to have been a short time frame and could of lasted a lot
longer if it wasn t for the commitment and combined efforts provided by all agencies including
primary care, local authorities, health boards and public health wales (BBC, 2013).
Without statutory requirements and an emergency procedure in place this type of virus could have
shaped the outcome of this crisis very differently, luckily there was a high level of service provision
and resources available which included training, staffing numbers. Having the essential resources
enabled close monitoring of reported cases of the measles virus could be carried out by all staff in the
health protection team, central health protection division and the communicable disease surveillance

updates were distributed to members of the measles Senior Response Team and headline figures were
also provided to the welsh government.
Figures were issued to the public via a press release twice weekly to ensure the public were aware of
the severity of the outbreak and to show a pro active approach.

Paternity Leave
Most professional companies and organizations offer mothers paid time off. Usually, this maternity
leave is six weeks. New fathers, however, don t often get this same privilege, which is unfortunate. In
order for a father to better support the mother of their child and/or personally care for their child, a
father should be allowed a paid paternity leave. Many would argue that not mandating paternity leave
is serving men and their careers far better than if the policy were to be established. The opposing side
believes that if the creation of paternity leave becomes, mandatory, it will do more harm than good

Men are needed for the creation of and the It s important to give the men time to bond with their child,
especially because they often get left out of the process. When the leave becomes mandatory it can
bring men a sense of worth and usefulness, but when it s not mandatory one could begin to feel as if
they don t belong or even aren t important enough to help raise a child. Men who get the privilege to
take leave get more satisfaction from the time spent with their child or children. But paternity leave is
a privilege and not a right, so the men who don t have the liberty to do so aren t bad fathers, but the
leaves fathers take during their child s young stage serves their long term relationship well because
they become more satisfied with it and are more likely to remain involved. Mandating paternity leave
serves children well. The children get more time spent with their fathers which have been proven to be
a significant impact on a happier child, healthier, few behavioral problems, greater self esteem, and
even tend to do better at school. The long term relationship with a father and child is somewhat
depended on mandating paternity leave. In the academic journal, Paternity Leave and Fathers

more involved, and if such involvement proves to be beneficial to children, then a case could
potentially be made to provide more access to paternity leave to new fathers in the US

Summary Of Mark Levin s The Liberty Amendments
For over two decades, citizens of the United States of America have had strong feelings on the subject
of congressional term limits more specifically, the imposition of term limits on Supreme Court
Justices as well as the restriction on judicial review. This controversial issue has been further
publicized due to the more recent publication of Mark Levin s book, The Liberty Amendments:
Restoring the American Public. Levin, a talk show host, makes his term limit case in his book about
several amendments that have been attempted in the past. Article 3, Section 1 of the U.S. Constitution
states that judges shall hold their Offices during good Behaviour, meaning that as long as Supreme
Court judges don t commit crimes, they can hold their position

Sacred Heart Church Research Paper
Architecture has always been adapting, revisiting and appropriating what has been done before,
looking back to precedents to find new inspirations. Despite new technology and pop culture, history
dictates symbolism and formalistic appeal even if we are unaware of it. We grow up associating
certain symbols and imagery to its connotated meaning, for example, when we see a cross we
immediately think of Christianity. Because of that, churches nowadays continue to look back to
ancient Christian structure to draw long established design elements and symbols and Sacred Heart
Church is no exception. Firstly, I will describe the physical elements of the Sacred Heart church.
Afterwards, I will compare and analyze the similarities and differences between this church and pre
modern Christian architecture.
Sacred Heart Church is the second oldest church located 1307 14th Street SW in Downtown Westside
in Calgary, Canada. It is founded in 1910. There are two main complexes in this architecture, the older
complex constructed ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There is an approximately 8 story tall tower located in the longer structure, towards the back end of
the plan. It has a square base with a top section extruding to a singular point, forming a pinnacle.
When visitors approach the church, they are welcomed with a courtyard located in the front. This
courtyard is miniature in size in comparison to other Christian architectures and therefore cannot be
identified as an atrium. Another captivating feature of this church is the statue of Jesus Christ located
in this courtyard. When visitors attempt to enter the premises, they will be confronted with a circular
platform that elevates the church slightly, segregating itself away from the street. The front entry door
has a rectangular frame with an arched top. The window frame of this door is composed of 2 Celtic
cross symbols. This symbol is prevalent throughout the composition of the

Family. The book looks into the psyche of the people who have committed murder. The book opens
with a description of the town and how nothing was special about. It was your old average town in the
Midwest. The book then starts to look at the family itself and how the community viewed them. The

The two of them were on parole from the Kansas State Penitentiary. They did the murders on
November 15, 1959. A prisoners who had worked on the farm told Hickock about a safe at the farm
where Clutter kept his money. He soon came up with an idea to rob Herbert and start a new life in
Mexico. He described his plan as easy and the perfect crime. He later talked to Smith, who was his
former cellmate, about doing the robbery with him. The information proved to be wrong since Herbert
didn t keep cash at home and did all his business by check. After driving across Kansas, Hickock and
Smith located the Clutter home and entered while the family was asleep. After they woke the family
and found out there was no money, Smith slit Cutter s throat and then shot him in the head. Kenyon,
Nancy, and then Mrs. Clutter were also murdered, each by a single shotgun blast to the head. In Smith
confession, he claimed that Hickock murdered the two women. When asked to sign his confession
Smith refused. He said he wanted to accept responsibility for all four killings because he was sorry for
Dick s mother. Hickock always maintained that Smith committed all four

  • 2. French Resistance Research Paper The French Resistance May 1940, Hitler and his German army invaded France, it would only take a little over a month before France would surrender to Hitler s Germany and the Nazi Party. The German occupation of France not only expanded the Nazi s territory, but it also encouraged many French citizens to rise up and go against Hitler and his cruel rule. From young to old, around one hundred thousand men and women, by 1944, took up arms and fought against the occupation. Not all the resistance fighters were violent though, some helped by just gathering intelligence and spying, but the Maquis were more focused on hunting down the Nazis. Through April and May the resistance destroyed 1,800 train engines along with the 700 of Allied soldiers. One of their most amazing feats is having 150 sabotage acts between 1943 and 1944 using only 3,000 pounds of explosives, which is the same amount a Mosquito airplane carries on one bombing run. It wasn t all fun and games though on their last push to help liberate France on August 19th 1944, while German forces were rounding up resistance members for execution when the resistance went all out and attacked. By the climax of the battles 1,500 resistance members and civilians were dead and Paris was liberated on August 25th. The word feminism is merely looked at from one perspective, the western perspective. The reality of feminism is that everywhere in the world has a different idea of what feminism is defined as and what it should look like. However there is one central theme that applies to feminists around the world, which is a feminist is someone who goes against traditional roles of a woman in their society to better their gender as a whole. These strong, and independent African women authors use insightful and educational language, which invites the western world to be a part of their world through the power of literature. In order for a woman to achieve these goals she has to take extreme risks and jeopardize the one life she knows. The term rebel has been used often when African women describe themselves and from their definition a rebel is a feminist. In Aidoo s, Changes we are introduced to a woman who has so much self respect for herself that she transforms herself into an African feminist. She takes a modern stance on femininity and this is refreshing change. This woman refuses to be walked all over by some man who tells her what she can and cannot do. She leaves the life she knows and risks it all in order to be free and feel that no one is judging her for having a high paying job as a female. Women are often worried how other females will judge them and or be jealous of their accomplishments. It is women like this that make women all over the world see the many possibilities that lay before them, no matter what their current situation. Women in Africa who do not rebel and sadly do not become a feminist are grouped in a category that one could consider as the outsiders . Women who fear to be feminists fall into a trap, which becomes a vicious cycle and makes it almost impossible for them ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

To help protect the environment, our health, and our economic independence, the government should use all the revenues from the taxes on dirty fossil fuels to subsidize research and the production of alcohol burning cars. Problems with Cleaner Fuel Of course there are reasons why we have not converted to alcohol burning vehicles before. Ethanol costs more per gallon than gasoline. However, new technologies have the potential to produce ethanol at significantly smaller costs. Methanol, a high performance liquid fuel made from wood or coal, can be produced at prices comparable to the prices of gasoline and natural gas. In addition, oil does not occur naturally in unlimited supply, and just in the past few years, gas prices have been increasing dramatically. Those prices will not fall back down. However, the introduction of an inexpensive alcohol based fuel would provide an alternative means of power and give consumers more choices. Some people argue that decreasing the oil we use would harm the economies of countries like Venezuela that depend on America buying their oil. However, as third world countries grow and develop, they will also need fuel sources and the United States has no right to monopolize large portions of the available resources. Essay On Hotel Rwanda Terry Georges film Hotel Rwanda focuses deeply into the life of Paul Rusesabagina, of whom Is also identified as the hotel manager who saved the lives of 1200 Tutsis and Tutsi supporters. It sparks awareness to the 1994 massacre that was carried out by the Hutu rebels in Rwanda. The film allows viewers to engage in the issue through its emotional and intense screenplay. New York Times critic Stephen Holding brands Hotel Rwanda on the entertainment aspect of violence and emotions, but ignores the true human nature of the Rwandan Genocide. Holding argues that Hotel Rwanda radically downplays the actual gore, which is observed through a film or from a distance. Bodies are strewn everywhere, but the streets don t run with blood, and no hideous mutilation is shown. Even the beatings seem tentative. This is true and is seen when Paul Rusesabagina and his driver, Gregoire, go out to get supplies for the Hotel. This particular scene is very foggy and when Paul steps out of the vehicle, he sees that there are dead bodies surrounding him. Hotel Rwanda is a rated PG 13 film. Thus, includes a mostly non graphic depiction of the genocide. However, contrary to what Holding says, it is not a flaw. Due to the film being less violent, it allows for younger viewers to be exposed to the issue, rather than a smaller audience. He does not make frequent public speeches, and in general, Russian leaders do not typically feel the need to explain policy decisions or their rationale to the general populace. This makes it difficult to determine to what degree necessity and practicality motivates Putin s decisions versus his own political philosophy. The lack of transparency in the Russian system further precludes detailed assessment or evaluation of leaders and their decisions such as would be demanded in western democracies. We will talk about his life at home, where he grew up, what he did in the Revolutionary War, and his time as president of the United States of America. First we will talk about James parents. James parents were pretty good parents and kind people. His parents names were Spence and Elizabeth Monroe (biography.com). James was their first child. Spence family emigrated from Scotland in the mid 1600s to America were he became a prosperous planter and carpenter (biography.com). James mom, Elizabeth Monroe, tutored him at home to start off his education. For work James really just worked at home with his father in his early years. Working with his dad, James learned how to plant and be a carpenter and all the typical duties of working on a farm. James was not very good at working a farm. He was more of an educated man. When he had learned all his mother could really teach him and he finished his school at home he went to collage. James went to collage at the Collage of William and Mary and was a good student (totallyhistory.com). James was a bright young man and had a bright future ahead of him. • 26. The Positive Side Of The Internet HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT 1 Right from the inception of the Internet in 1969, there has been a drastic increase in its growth. Over the years the world has become more and more dependent on the internet due to its ease in accessibility, reduced cost and tons of information in all fields. As there are two sides to coins, there are two sides to this both positive and negative with respect to its impact on people. The positive side to the internet with reference to Dr.Leonard Klienrock lecture at infocom 2006 is that it has removed the barrier in between the people, increased the speed of interaction and reduced cost of receiving access to the technology. This has increased to a larger extent in the past 9 years; from receiving a data speed from 50kbps to 1Gbps or maybe beyond is a noticeable example of advancement in the Internet. The internet was basically invented to transfer resourceful information among a group of researchers. Over the years humans have begun looking at it in a different angle which has made it a part of our lives. The internet has affected the people personal, economic and social life profoundly. An example more than 1.5 billion people (apart from the rest use the internet)as of today use Facebook which surely proves two things, one nearly 25% of the world s population have access to the internet and two, 25% of the people can interact with each other with just a click. Imports and exports to and from the U.S include products as wide ranged as food, clothes, and even people. Human trafficking is a worldwide problem, including the United States. Currently, there are approximately 20.9 million people enslaved throughout the world with 2.5 million located in the United States. About 14,500 17,500 of foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States every year (Human trafficking statistics). These statistics show that slavery is still alive and flourishing throughout the entire world. When humans are exchanged, exploited, and forced into prostitution, and involuntary labor, it is called human trafficking. Human trafficking is a very serious problem which has been going on for centuries; I believe spreading awareness is imperative to solving this ongoing problem. There has been many government attempts to try to alleviate this problem in the past with the Emancipation Proclamation, the Thirteenth Amendment, Out of the 20.9 million people that are enslaved in the world, more than 70 percent are female and half are children (Human trafficking statistics). Approximately 80% of trafficking involves sexual exploitation and many victims are runaway girls who were sexually abused as children (Human trafficking statistics). In their very nature, we can see that these two novels vary greatly in purpose, structure, and the way that they convey their messages. Although this is true, they make up for this when we examine the motives of the authors and certain ways that the authors convey messages. Ernest Hemingway and William Faulkner grew up and developed their opinions in far different ways. Hemingway was heavily affected by his experiences in World War I and the Spanish Civil War. These events greatly influenced Hemingway s ideas about war in For Whom the Bell Tolls (5). One of the most central character relationships in both surrounds hostility between characters that should otherwise be friends. In As I Lay Dying, this situation is shown through the relationship between Jewel and Darl, and also through the relationship between Anse and Addie. In For Whom the Bell Tolls, we see a similar relationship between Pablo and Robert Jordan. The hostility that these character have for one another is rooted in a lack of trust. Addie is hostile to Anse because she believes that Anse manipulated her into having children, without truly loving her. Darl is hostile to Jewel because Jewel was Addie s favorite child, and Darl believes that Jewel was unfairly given love (so he chooses not to trust Jewel). Robert Jordan lacks trust for Pablo because he believes that Pablo will betray the him and the Republic. This hostility between characters is also similar in the fact the we do not always know the reasoning or the outcome of hostility. For the entire first half of the novel, we do not know why Addie acted the way that she did, and for the same reason, why Darl treated Jewel the way that he did. We will never know how much Robert Jordan s hostility for Pablo affected the story. Perhaps Robert Jordan would have gone on to live a happy life had he not disrupted the flow of the group. The similar way in which hostility between characters is depicted shows a great similarity between the novels, but we can also see a great contrast in the way love is shown. The love that Maria and Robert Jordan have in For Whom the Bell Tolls is depicted as very free and open, while Addie refuses to love anyone but Jewel in her family, because she was betrayed and Anse only said, and did not show, that he loved her. This contrast might be shown as a difference, but the opposite appears to be true. The love that Maria and Robert have is really ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Indeed, an examination of four major American writers shows these concepts in all four main schools of American thought Epicureanism, Transcendentalism, Pragmatism, and Protestantism. Epicureanism is the pursuit of pleasure in order to avoid pain. This philosophy is very American. One of the most famous American Epicureans is Walt Whitman. Transcendentalism is another American philosophy that also deals heavily with the individual. Transcendentalists believed formalized society oppressed the individual. Thus, they strove to create a doctrine that stressed the importance of the individual. Ralph Waldo Emerson suggested this idea in his book Nature. Emerson maintains that man is one with Nature and Nature is one with God, therefore giving the ordinary individual validity and worth. These two qualities are attributes that every American is familiar with and has a desire for. Another Transcendental concept is the phrase Trust Thyself. Transcendentalists believed that human nature is essentially good; thus, an individual should rely on his or her intuition. This concept may be the reason for Americans hating to admit that they are wrong. Pragmatism is also a philosophy that is deeply embedded in American culture. Pragmatism is a doctrine which tests truth by its practical consequences. William James was the most influential American pragmatic philosopher. James concluded that philosophy was only useful if one could use it to better his or her life. Americans today think the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
