The Character Of Solomon In The Book Of Ecclesiastes
1. How is the book of Ecclesiastes and the character of Solomon used in this chapter as expressions of
despair? The reign of Solomon created a sense of despair since both sections grip onto the present as if
they present is going by too quickly. With the result of the present leaving will turn out to be nothing
in the end. In addition, these texts also lack the promises from the coming future, and what they will
bring as it comes forth. Especially, there is a sense that nothing new will come into view, making the
reader feel as if they are stuck in a never ending cycle. 2. According to B, how does life become a
dissatisfied coping, a grudging trust, and managing that dares never ask too much. Do you agree or
disagree? Life comes to this point when life no longer feels genuine, one s outlooks on life has been
mulled over due to the mundaneness of their present life. A lot of people choose to live their lives
comfortably choosing not to venture out of their comfort zones. Many people believe the lie one must
only do this or that, and or what is expected of them. However, this is not the kind of life Jesus calls us
to live out, instead he wants us to venture outside of the lines others have drawn for us to stay within. I
agree in some seasons of life many people may allow their lives to become this, however we do
possess the power to break those down, and create a new outlook on life. 3. Explain three actions that
penetrate despair in your own words. What are they and what

Visual Rhetorical Analysis
Visual Rhetorical Theory allows for readers to view a text in a specific light. Symbols, images, colors,
fonts, etc. all can play into the overall meaning of a text. Visual Rhetorical Rhetoric as theory allows
the reader to analyze visual artifacts to produce a certain meaning that can be different to each
individual. The theory can draw to attention otherization of people groups, how consumer culture in
America can change poverty around the world, how southern culture can produce obesity and set bad
morals for children, and create a call to action for the people. All of these examples listed are from a
campaign commercial from Compassion International that was produced in 2008. Compassion is an
organization that mainly revolves around showing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Growing up, southerners are taught to be morally good and follow direction of their elders. One of the
common televised and know practices is when parents say to their children you are not getting up
from this table until you clean your plate. This one humorous and little statement has caused a
dilemma. This commercial that Compassion aired completely obliterates the southern teaching. They
are asking for people to give up meals and money to help fund these children. The southern culture
has created bad habits that flow from generation to generation. Also, the south has the largest obesity
rate in the nation. That statistic alone proves that southerners consume more than any other part of the
country. These are the people that need to be targeted to give up meals, and money for Compassion
International. Culture in the south takes food for granted and spends thousands upon thousands of
dollars on food per year. The campaign urges people to just give $30 dollars a month to support a
child. That is equivalent to not eating fast food as a family a couple of times a month, but the
entitlement of the south is hard to break. This commercial brings to light the severity of what
southerners live in and how unaware people are to the poverty of the world. Giving up going out to eat
a couple of meals a month is more than

The International Community And Responsibility To...
The International Community and Responsibility to Protect 3318 Words 14 Pages
The International Community has a Right to Intervene in Sovereign States in order to end Serious
Human Rights Abuses? Discuss.
Humanitarian intervention is definitely one of the most controversial subjects of the recent decades
among states, international organizations, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and academia. The
centre of the debate is the clash of traditional principles of state sovereignty and new adopted norms
on use of force for humanitarian purposes. Despite the political controversies between the countries,
humanitarian intervention is now an international norm which calls for action anytime there are
serious mass life threatening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The discussion on humanitarian intervention emerged in the 1990s with the end of the Cold War and
severe ethnical violence taking place. However, the legal roots of humanitarian intervention are found
on Chapter VII of UN Charter and UN Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide
(Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945; Convention on
Genocide, 1948). With the second wave of democratization occurring from the late 1940s to 1960s it
was strongly embraced the concept of sovereignty by the new liberated states (Huntington, 1991).
Same concept is used currently as a counter argument to humanitarian intervention (J. Bajorja R.
McMahon, 2013). However, the co founders of ICISS argue ...that sovereign states are defined not by
the inviolability of their borders the assumption of the post colonial era but by their obligation to
protect their citizens (Homans, 2011).
Humanitarian intervention represents a revolution in the international law, as it challenges the old
Treaty of Westphalia (Treaty of Westphalia, 1648), which certified the domestic sovereignty of state
actors. This principle was also endorsed by the UN Charter in 1945 in the article 2(7), where it was
stated that nothing should authorize intervention in matters essentially within the domestic jurisdiction
of any state (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945, p.3).
However, Chapter VII grants

The Soviet Union Won Four Gold Medals
:
James walks into the Olympic Center Stadium, feeling a brisk of cold air hit him as he sees the clean
sheet of ice. He looks around to see Americans, his people, laughing anxiously around him and others
taunting their elite rivals. Must have drank too much, he thought. He walks down the stairs, a classic
Vienna Beef hotdog Chicago Style on one hand, and his ticket held in the other. 27E it read. James
walked 12 more steps down and found his seat. When he finally reached his spot, he sat down and
relaxed.
This was going to be one of the biggest games of the year, James thought. The Soviet Union won four
gold medals since the 1960 s, and the United States, on the other hand, was not doing so good
themselves. In fact, the whole past ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

assuming they would win the hockey match. It s not that Vladimir was in hopes to see America

strength of the people, To Communism s triumph lead us on!, he sang to himself, how the national
anthem of his beautiful union spoke to him. His wife and him stood at the entrance of the stadium for
a while, so she could reapply her bold red lipstick, and highlight her beauty; of which every Soviet
lady did. He grabbed her hand, and escorted her down to his seat, 27E and 27F. While he was walking

du Pont de Nemours and Co., also known as the DuPont Company. Developed originally in the early
1900s by a finance executive at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., of Wilmington, Delaware, the
DuPont system of financial analysis provides a classic template for the decomposition process that can
be used to build integrated systems of performance metrics. The traditional role that the DuPont
formula plays in finance is to help investors select projects and investments that are the most
profitable. The first application of the DuPont Model was in 1918. It was used to help with DuPont s
decision to become a major stakeholder in General Motors (Mitchell, Mitchell, Cai, 2013). The
DuPont accounting labs exported their ROI measure during Pierre du Pont s reign from 1920 to 1923
as president of General Motors Corp., in which DuPont had taken a major stockholding. At GM and
across corporate North America, ROI has since formed the basis of financial control (Southerst, 1993).
Over the years, it has evolved into a classic diagnostic tool for identifying strengths, weaknesses and
potential improvements to a business s capital structure in order to maximize shareholder wealth.
(Mitchell, Mitchell, Cai, 2013). The DuPont model uses certain inputs such as sales, cost of sales,
fixed assets and current assets. At successive stages they are added, subtracted, divided or multiplied

Nike And Nike Vs. Nike
Adidas and Nike are two major athletic clothing companies on the market. The two brands are both
commonly worn by athletes. Nike has endorsed some of the top athletes in the world. Take Michael
Jordan for example, Nike created an entire brand off his name, Air Jordan s. Adidas also has multiple
athletes that advertise for them including soccer player David Beckham. The two companies have
been in constant competition with their footwear and apparel for several years. Deciding between the
two brands has always been a challenging process for me. Having had products from both companies,

In contrast, the most popularly sold Nike shoe is for running. This type is usually lightweight and easy
slip on. I have owned several pairs of Nikes and all have been very durable. They have lasted me
several years and still look new. Many track runners use Nike tennis shoes or may even own a pair of
Nike spikes. Some people even believe that runners who wear Nike tennis shoes in track races have an
unfair advantage. Nike shoes cushioned the feet of all three medalists in the men s marathon at the Rio
Olympics last summer (Jeré Longman). It is no coincidence that athletes continue to purchase Nike
running shoes, and continue to provide the best results when competing.
While Nike s most profitable product is their footwear, they also offer many different types of apparel.
Such as leggings and tank tops for women; for men they have polo s, tee s and socks. They sell all
sizes for both genders. It is common to see athletes wearing multiple Nike products at one time. I have
seen many people with a new pair of Nike tennis on, while also wearing a Nike t shirt. Most of their
apparel is expensive. Some leggings sale for the price of a

The Differences Of Children With ADHD And Learning...
Individuals with ADHD, LD and RD have more learning problems than in a child with either ADHD,
learning disabilities, or RD alone (Faraone, et al., 2001; Jensen, Martin, Cantwell, 1997; Smith
Adams, 2006). For example, students with ADHD and learning disabilities had demonstrated poorer
reading skills (Woodcock Johnson III), inferior social skills, and more behavior problems when
compared to their peers with learning disability alone, and those differences persisted over time (Wei
et al., 2014). Yu and Shaver (2014) found that comorbid ADHD and learning disability children had
lower letter word identification scores in identification tasks, teacher and parent reports to children
with only learning disabilities.

Pelletier and Astington (2004) found that children s age, language ability, non verbal intelligence and
theory of mind influenced their narrative development. As individuals become older their level of
narrative skills increases. Later language development is linked to improved discourse (Nippold,
1998). For example, connective terms (e.g. and) tend to be overused by seven to nine year olds while
adults use connective terms sparingly therefore increasing the technicality of their speech (Berman,
1997).
Narrative gains and presentation, in particular autographical memory, are moderated by certain
factors. Harley and Reese (1999) wanted to study how children s verbal memory development is
influenced by their self knowledge and parental styles. Fifty eight mother child dyads were assessed
on multiple domains including their joint memory conversations, parental language skills, child s self
recognition, and memory of past narrative skills. The study showed that maternal reminiscing style
and child self recognition style produced the quality of the child s shared memory over time.

Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy
Officially Accepted Story
During the 1960 s and 70 s, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period of
time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first
nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return safely
before the other country.
In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into
space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B
Shepard was able too. In response to trailing behind Russia, President John F. Kennedy gave a speech
at Rice University Stadium in which he challenged America to find a way to put a man on the moon
and return him safely before the end of the decade.
After launching from the Kennedy space centre on July 20th 1969 the crew of Apollo 11 orbited the
earth one and a half times before being given permission to go to the moon, three days later the crew
are in orbit around the moon. Six hours after the lunar module lands on the moons surface, Neil
Armstrong becomes the first man to walk on the moon.
The two astronauts spend two and a half hours on the moon s surface collecting rocks and conducting
experiments before behind a plaque which honoured the astronauts that had died in the pursuit of

Everyone is necessarily the hero of his own life story. John Barth Throughout this unit the theme is the
concept of a central idea and the idea that works of art often leave many central ideas up to
interpretation for their audience, and to make it even better authors often leave more than one
interpretation up for debate for even one central idea. Four examples of this being The Passionate
Shepherd to His Love by Christopher Marlowe, The Nymph s Reply to the Shepherd by Sir Walter

by responses from other author. The poems are about a shepherd pronouncing his love to a woman by

One can see this in lines Not now. Love itself a flower with roots in a parched ground. , What can the

bring us no peace. (1 17) The central idea develops with the use of Not now. Love itself a flower with

conditions can not provide for humans. What can the small violets tell us that grow on furry stems in.
which uses the word furry to convey repulse to the reader to contrast the normally attractive flower.

Five Forces Analysis-US Express Mail Industry Essay
Question 1 asked to complete a five forces analysis of the US Express Mail Industry. A five forces
analysis is done to rate the attractiveness of an industry.
Threat of new entry is low because the barriers to entry are high. Newcomers to the industry would
require an enormous amount of up front capital to set up the distribution networks and infrastructure,
such as establishing hubs, and acquiring aircraft and a large amount of ground transportation vehicles
(vans, trucks, ect). Economies of scale are significant and would deter new firms from entering
because initial sales volumes would be low do to the fact that existing brands already have strong
brand identification, and there are no cost advantages to entering, like government ... Show more

The airports and the aircraft suppliers aren t only relying on the express mail industry, so that also
gives those suppliers more power to charge what they want (landing fees, cost of planes). Ground
transportation vehicles is the only input that would allow for more bargaining power since there are
numerous alternatives available, there is more room for the industry players to negotiate price.
The availability of substitutes is medium mainly because there aren t a large number of substitutes out
there for express mail outside of the industry. Most next day deliveries are business documents,
parcels, letters, ect, not typically cargo. So substitutes could include email and faxes, both are faster
and cheaper than express mailing. Depending on the nature of the business, video conferencing or the
old fashion telephone could be used. If the parcel is going somewhere local maybe could use bike
messengers, or just hand deliver. There are also the second tier players, like RPS, DHL and TNT,
while they are still in the delivery industry; they tend to specialize in areas other than express mail.
With RPS, it is second day service at 40 50% less, and a business that does a large amount of overseas
or international express shipments may want to substitute with DHL or TNT, who specialize and
differentiate themselves in the international market.

Character Analysis Of Mae West s She Done Him Wrong
Novelist, playwright, and producer are all credentials that are a part of Mae West s career, but it is not
what comes to mind when looking back on the Hollywood starlet s career. From Marilyn Monroe to
Anna Faris, Mae West is one of the first Hollywood starlets who took control of her public image and
is known as a pop culture icon. She is the inspiration for Dali s Face of Mae West. Dali shows interest
in the construction of her public image as an actress and celebrity (Evans, 107). Mae West is a part of
Hollywood s Pre Code era. Her combination of provocative humor and playing the voluptuous blonde
role, Mae West uses her public image to dominate Hollywood s patriarchal institution. The 1933 film,
She Done Him Wrong is an American comedy starring Mae West and Cary Grant. The film is
originally a play West wrote in 1928, but due to censorship and ticket sales many of her plays
productions were shut down. Although she is not given credit as screenwriter, West continuously kept
writing and re writing her material so the adaptation of the play would work as film. Unlike many
Hollywood starlets, production companies were not hiring West to play specific roles in their films to
bring in audiences, but West was writing scripts and creating characters to play roles she knew
audiences would want to see (Evans, 108). I became a writer by the accident of needing material and

particular, South East Queensland (SEQ) has experienced significant pressure as the demand for
property and affordable dwellings increases and population growth in the region continues. The issue
has come to the forefront in discussions for local governments in the region and there is a real need to
address the problem of housing affordability. The subject of affordability is complex and is

Parts 1 and 2 will be presented to Council for validation and discussion with HAF representatives.
File Survey Overview
HAF T5 programme Objectives
The aim of the Target 5 Days (HAF T5) project is to reduce government s impact on the development
assessment process through reductions in assessment time. This will reduce the holding costs and
infrastructure costs for applicants, contributing greatly to the bottom line overheads experienced by
developers, both professional and non professional (without considering the greater issue of land
supply).
The objectives of HAF T5 project are to deliver process reform such that Councils in SEQ will
deliver:
Reduced assessment timeframe for 95% of residential development applications; and
75% reduction in approval timeframe for residential developments with a five day turn around for low
risk/complying applications.
Residential Application Focus
The typical types of applications that were surveyed are:
Reconfiguration of lots up to 50 lots;
Dual Occupancies (Duplexes);

The Value Of An Education
What is the value of an education really worth in today s society? In order to clearly understand the
worth of an education, one would have to understand what the word education really means.
According to dictionary.com, it defines the term education as, the act or process of imparting or
acquiring general knowledge, developing the powers of reasoning and judgement, and generally of
preparing oneself or others intellectually for mature life
(http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/education). An education is an important factor needed to
succeed in the world we live in today. Because of its importance, many are continuing their education
beyond high school and a bachelor s degree. If one chooses not to expand their knowledge and open
their mind to be taught, a person will then become stagnant and unfamiliar with the changes in our
civilization. Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world. Nelson
Mandela. Americans with four year college degrees made 98 percent more an hour on average in 2013
than people without a degree. That s up from 89 percent five years earlier, 85 percent a decade earlier
and 64 percent in the early 1980s. (1. New York Times article) In the competitive workforce today,
higher skill levels are required to complete day to day tasks in each particular job field. What skills a
person can gain through college will help them execute their job well. The better educated a person is

Example Of My Greatest Achievement
Some of the greatest successes I have experienced during my school year were being in Honor
Society, being awarded a 4.0 G.P.A medal and being awarded the Spirit of Chelan certificate. Ever
since I was in elementary school I strived to be a good student. My father was my main motivator I
wanted him to feel proud of me. After my father passed away I made him a promise to always give my
best and get straight A s. When I was awarded a 4.0 medal I felt the happiest girl alive. Not because I
had gotten good grades , but because I was keeping my dad the promise I made him . I still mark this
as the greatest success in my life. The second greatest achievement was being part of Honor Society.
Through Honor Society I was able to bond with my community and meet various people. I was able to
help in the Chelan Valley Hope and provide food and resources to low income families. Lastly, being
nominated and awarded for the Spirit of Chelan award. Spirit of Chelan award is awarded to a person
who shows outstanding leadership. Someone who represents the Chelan Valley responsibly and
respectfully. This meant a lot to me because I felt like I was contributing to my community in a
positive way. I felt proud that all my hard work was all worth it. Some of the struggles I experience is
being able to manage my homework with helping my family financially. Currently I struggle with
managing my time efficiently. After college I go and babysit 4 kids until 10 pm. I find myself often

Explain How To Promote Effective Communication
HOW TO COMMUNICATE EFFECTIVELY
Communicate is essential in health and social care settings because without a good communication to
patients, families, colleagues and management is very difficult to deliver good service of care.
A care worker needs to listen their patients needs and respond to them with professionalism.
Facial expression, eye contact, active listening, nonverbal communication, clarifying messages,
empathy, use of body language and appropriate language tone and pace are all results of effective

Having support from your colleagues is an informal support on the other hand having support from a
doctor is a formal support because doctors a qualified professional people.
Between workers is important to build trust and maintain confidentiality.
Some example of barriers to communication are use of jargon, physical barriers, cultural differences,
impairments, different language and patronising communication.
Jargon is when people express technical words throughout a conversation.
Physical barriers to communication is when people are trying to communicate and something are
stopping them to communicate well for example a place which there is a lot of noise could be a barrier
for them to have a conversation.
Some physical can be someone who have difficulties to understand because of limitation of vision,

Mental Disorder In Soldiers
Standing Down Being a member of the United States Armed Forces is one of the most dangerous jobs
in the world. These soldiers face many challenges and the chance of major harm befalling them on, at
times, on a daily basis. They are at risk of injuries that, while not unheard of amongst civilians are on
a completely different scale in terms of frequency and probability. Injuries such as: amputations,
shrapnel wounds, bullet wounds, severe burns, and PTSD are common.
The patients include: gunshot wound (GSW) to the stomach, partial amputations from a land mind,
open fractures secondary to GSW, head injury/ Struck by a tank, blast injuries, shrapnel injuries, and
dislocations (425).
Any of these wounds could put a soldier out of service if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

incredibly commonplace in soldiers. Most soldiers suffer with at least a minor case of a mental

One trooper confides in me that he witnessed some Iraqi children get run over by a convoy. He was in
the convoy and the had strict orders not to stop. If a vehicle stops, it is isolated and an inviting target

The worst part is that even though so many of our veterans suffer with these debilitating disorders,
very few every seek help for them. Even worse those who seek help don t always receive proper

Manipulation In Macbeth
Although William Shakespeare created the play, Macbeth, to be a tragedy, the tragic hero can hardly

Comparing The Mabinogion And The Red Book Of Hergest
The Mabinogion is a book comprising of fantastical Welsh stories that are in the White Book of
Rhydderch and the Red Book of Hergest (Davies, p. 10). Within the Mabinogion, there are four
sections the describe each branch of the Mabinogi. Each separate story shows us characters within
their similar worlds and shows us how each of them react to a wide range of incredible and mythical
events. At first glance, it can appear that the four branches of the Mabinogi are entirely unrelated.
However, if one looks at the stories closely, there are similarities that offer a greater understanding of
the character, cultural, and familial ties during which these stories occurred, and it begs the question if
these stories must be read together. Within each story, there are character, familial, ... Show more

Madigan, December 11th, 2012, it was ruled 2 1 by the federal 7th Circuit Court of Appeals that the
right to bear arms , that is guaranteed by the Second Amendment, must be interpreted to include a
right to have a concealed gun in public, to have it ready for use as self defense, or for the defense of
others. In this case an Illinois law was challenged, this law stated that it is forbidden to carry a gun
ready to use (loaded, immediately accessible, uncased), with exceptions for police, security personnel,
hunters, members of target shooting clubs, a person on his own property, in his home, in his fixed
place of business, or on the property of someone who has permitted him to be there with a ready to use
gun. Up until this case, in Illinois, only excepted persons could carry an unloaded gun in public,
uncased and immediately accessible, unless it is being carried openly outside of a vehicle, with no
easily accessible ammunition, in an unincorporated district. This case was dismissed by the district
court, after their ruling that the Second Amendment does not permit for self defense outside of your
personal property. The 7th circuit court reversed the district court s ruling, but mandated their ruling
for 180 days to allow for the legislature to draft new restrictions. The Supreme Court decided that it is

Velázquez created this painting for the royal family of Spain. Picasso created 58 interpretations of Las
Meninas, but each in their own unique way. He may have borrowed Velázquez s idea, but he created
his own, very original, works of art around that idea. Now, the 58 pieces stand in a museum in Spain,
where they are displayed to be gazed upon and to be appreciated by other citizens of Spain. Velázquez

Versions of Las Meninas have quite a few similarities. For starters, in both paintings there is the little
princess in the middle of a room. She is also wearing the same outfit in each painting, even though
Picasso s version looks a little more like a block. In both of the pictures, the little princess is taking
what looks like a cup from one of her ladies in waiting that is handing it to her on a golden tray. If you
look closely at Velázquez s painting, you can see that the cup in the princess hand has a hint of red
color, and Picasso s also added a bit of orange color to the cup in his painting. In both pieces, you can
see that the room that the little princess stands in is dark, with different shades of dark colors, like
gray, black, and a lighter gray. There are few differences between the two Las Meninas paintings. Here

An Article On The National Marriage Project
This article from the National Marriage Project was definitely an intriguing read. It is really
astonishing to see all of the statics about marriage, cohabitation, and even divorce. One things that
stood out to me in the article, were the graphs. I have always been someone that likes to see visuals.
The graphs compare the difference, regarding marriage, between least educated, moderately educated,
and highly educated individuals. Throughout all of the data and statistics, one things is certain: The
importance of marriage has declined over the years. Although statistics may seem skewed at times, the
statistics in this article seem to be very true. The studies have shown that the well educated tend to
have more successful marriages and a more stable relationship than the others. Marriage seems to be
heading in the direction of luxury. It seems as if, through research, that many couples are successful if
they have all of the adequate means that the well educated men and women have. As we look at the
statistics, unsuccessful marriages were typically detected within the least educated. Over the past
several years, this has spread to the moderately educated. Some of these moderately educated men and
women feel as if they are not economically ready and fit to start a family. Several years ago, it was
seen that most unsuccessful marriages were seen in the least educated, but unfortunately, this is
spreading into the moderately educated. It is extremely eye opening to see how

Political Style Of George Orwell
George Orwell is well known for his writing focusing on political events throughout Europe. His most
popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in literature.
However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both the political
movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric Arthur Blair,
better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political climate during
his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever changing, politically
charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information must be included because
one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of his early development. His father,
who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service, which would
later influence his opinion on British imperialism in Burma. His family was lower middle class, even
though they had high social status. They returned to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on
a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy during his time at school since his family made much less
money than the other boys there. After Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial
constabulary. He discovered that he was hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British
imperialism, which made him hate the work itself (viii).
His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the
beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to Down
and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh criticisms of
the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which included nearly losing
his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political opponents, was detailed in
Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism. This experience could have
been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more conservative side (Baker vii).
Nevertheless, his journalistic writing just a few years later combined patriotic sentiment with the

The Fraser government continued this policy direction with China, which was strengthened even
further during the Hawke and Keating years (1983 96). The Howard government has continued this

bilateral relationship with China by Australian Labor governments might have been predicted on
political grounds but, increasingly, as the world moves to embrace a global village profile
governments of all political persuasion s are shaping the foreign policies on the basis of national

In handling bilateral relationships, the Government often claims to have adopted an integrated
approach taking into account the totality of Australian interests. But, a closer analyses of this claim
reveals it would be almost impossible to meet the totality of Australia s interests in any bilateral
relationship and this is especially true of China which has such a different socio political system. This
close relationship continues to raise political questions for Australia to grapple with, such as her
relations with Taiwan, Tibet and Chinese human rights issues. In some instances Australias interests
will be confined mainly to trade and investment; in the more substantial bilateral relationships, the

Due to heavy financial losses and a weak capital structure affecting investment opportunities, the Lego
Group had to look within to find a path forward (Johnson, Whittington and Scholes, 2011). The
company had remained a family run firm for most of it`s history and by Kjeld reinforcing his
responsibility as CEO, it sent a clear signal that the family was behind the company. By divesting in
LEGOLAND parks, writing off other assets and simplifying the corporate structure, this allowed the
LEGO Group to focus on it`s core business. Attention was directed towards resolving distribution
problems and getting closer to retailers in order to understand their sales to end customers. Focus was
placed on cutting costs and the entire procurement process was revised, resulting in fewer suppliers
and significant cost reductions. Supply chain management philosophy changed from outsourced
management, to in house management. This strategy allowed for flexibility and the ability to react to
short term changes in customer demand as a priority over cost (Johnson, Whittington and Scholes,

Advantages Of Congestion Pricing
Congestion pricing is a particular type of road pricing where variable fees are charged with an explicit
purpose to reduce congestion (Litman, 2007). It is a method of harnessing the power of the market to
reduce the waste associated with traffic congestion and it uses market forces to allocate limited facility
capacity among users by their need to travel and their willingness to pay (TCRP, 2003). Congestion
pricing is also known as congestion charging, value pricing, variable road pricing, or pricing peak
period pricing. Congestion pricing works by shifting purely discretionary rush hour highway travel to
other transportation modes or to off peak periods. Congestion can be reduced by the concept involves

This means increasing prices during certain periods of time or at the places where congestion occurs
or introducing a new usage tax or charge when peak demand exceeds available supply in the case of a
tax funded public good provided free at the point of usage. According to the economic theory behind
congestion pricing, the aim of this policy is to use the price mechanism to make users more aware of
the costs that they impose upon one another when consuming during the peak demand. In this case,
they should pay for the additional congestion they create, thus encouraging the redistribution of the
demand in space or in time (Button, 1993) or shifting it to the consumption of a substitute public
good, for instance, switching from private transport to public transport (Small Verhoef, 2007). This
pricing mechanism has been used in several public utilities and public services for setting higher
prices during congested periods. This is a method to better manage the demand for the service to avoid
expensive new investments just to satisfy peak demand. This is also a useful way when it is not
economically or financially feasible to provide additional capacity to the

Analysis Of Charge Of The Light Brigade
Good morning and welcome back, to Poetry and Society, lesson 5. In today s lesson we will be
exploring the attitudes and morals portrayed in the poem Charge of the Light Brigade written by
Alfred Lord Tennyson; through the literary devices, themes and form, and how they are relevant to the
Crimean War.
Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a renowned British poet from the Victorian Era. Loving books as a little kid,
lead to him to writing a 6000 lined epic poem at the age of 12. Since that age he continued to write
poems and soon enough in 1850 became the most popular poet in the Victorian Era. Two years later
the Crimean war broke out between the Russians and the British. Tennyson, intrigued by the war,
decided to write about the famous Battle of Balaclava; where the British Cavalry had in fact attacked
the wrong unit whilst in battle. This lead to his most famous poem Charge of the Light Brigade, which
informed both people at the time and people now of the mistake the British made.
The Crimean war, an attack of the British attempting to take over land in Ukraine on the Crimean
Peninsula. War at the time was used to unify a nation, as well as inform other countries of the potential
and status of one s country. Britain at the time was slowly expanding out to countries, owning 33
countries at the time. Britain was considered quite patriotic under the ruling of Queen Victoria, men
that went out to fight in the war were doing it purely for their country, and nothing more. This lead

Abstract Image captured by two dimensional camera contains no depth information. However depth
information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target
tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our
project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which
gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for
image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented
images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR,
execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of
reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm
gives better 3 D reconstructed image.

a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America,
known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus
there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and
their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and
changing familial structures.
The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family
). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof,
household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of
people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). Growing up in a different country, my
culture taught me an immediate family only consists of a mother, a father and siblings. But in America
it s not as simple because there are many variants of a family.
American families are the most diverse, encompassing gay/lesbian

Analyse May-Juror Biography
Misty May Treanor is an amazing volleyball player who takes the sport very seriously. She just wants
to live a typical life with no surprises, but her spectacular talent gets in the way; I don t want to be put
on a pedestal. I want to be known as a nice and normal person, but my skills are a little more excelled.
She is very excited that she got the privilege to be on the USA s team at the Athens, 2004 Olympics.
Misty May Treanor was born July 30, 1977. The Olympian was born to Butch May and Barbara
Grubb, in Los Angeles, California. (She has two brothers whose names are Brack and Scott.) This
three time Olympian started from a very young age; she had her first tournament when she was 8.
Misty attended high school at Newport Harbor in 1995 and in 2002 she attended Long Beach State to
keep up her fitness. She then attended Concordia University in 2013, to earn her bachelor s degree;
she also coached and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I want to go out on my terms, she said. The three time gold medalist had an astonishing career and
made her husband proud. She was ready to retire even though she was going to miss some things, like
the friends she made. She retired because she thought it was time to start being a wife. She thinks that
when an athlete is playing volleyball or any sport for a living you don t have time to be with your
family. So, to be able to be with her family she had to give up something, and that something just
happened to volleyball. Misty also wanted to pursue her dream of being a mother. Beach volleyball s
not going to be my career anymore. ... It s time for me to be a wife. I want to be a mom and share time
with my family. All of us as athletes sacrifice more on the family end than people realize. And it s
getting back to that. My mind says it s time. My body says it s time. And it s the right time. She
wanted to be a mother and she got her wish. My biggest goal for the future is

Which plates contained oxidase negative bacteria? Shoe, Phone, and Control
Did both of the colonies from each plate show the same color change? No
Why or why not? Different types of bacteria are rubbed on each side of a petri dish. If there is more

Sink only
2. Which plates contained catalase negative bacteria? Shoe and Phone
3. Did the colonies from each plate show the same reaction? No Why or why not? There are separate
types of bacteria in each section and they may not grow at the same rate. How can you interpret this?
For example, in my dish with the sink and shoe, there were no traces of bacteria on the shoe side but a
lot of bacteria on the sink side. If the bacteria were to have multiplied and spread due to being in the
same dish, it would have given me a positive result on the shoe side which it didn t.
4. Were any controls used in this experiment? The control portion of a petri dish was used but we did
not test to see if reacted with the hydrogen peroxide, so there was technically no control in this case.
5. What reaction would you expect when performing a negative control in the catalase assay? The
reaction I would expect for a negative control would be no reaction in the catalase assay. No bubbles
should form.
6. What reaction would you expect when performing a positive control in the catalase assay? I would
expect a reaction to occur and bubbles to form.
What would it mean if a known catalase positive bacteria did not produce bubbles after the addition of
H2O2? It would mean that a different strain of bacteria was used that doesn t react to hydrogen
peroxide. 7. If flavoprotein performs the alternate pathway of transferring

My Family At Toys R Us For Her Daughter s 8th Birthday
When I visited my Aunt in Concord not too far outside of the San Francisco, I accompanied her in
buying a present at Toys R Us for her daughter s 8th birthday. When entering the store it gave a very
exciting and bright atmosphere. The colors were very vibrant with shelves upon shelves of different
types of toys. The colors at the front seemed to have a combination of all the different colors and
seemed to keep a neutral environment. The store had many places for kids to wonder such as a video
game section, different toy sections that were separated into types of toys, and the older kid sections
which included bikes, scooters, tri wheelers, and push carts which were just for the parents to use to
push their toddlers around.
The entire ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This obviously is to intrigue the boy who shows interest in explosions and people fighting off
monsters to save the Earth. For the bigger toys in these sections, I noticed that the toys meant for boys
had many toys that suggested they should pretend to be different super heroes. In this section even
though many heroins had similar colors to the men, there were no girl super heroes in this section
despite having many batman and superman toys.
When walking into the girl isles of the toy store, the type of toys completely changed. When walking
in the isles I noticed that the colors obviously changed to pink and purple. The type of toys in these
isles completely contrasted the toys meant for the boys. Toys meant for girls usually comprised of
barbie dolls, flowers, and many color books of princesses. Most toys in this section suggested tea
parties and playing house. Many of the toys also promoted little girls to wear aprons and to bake
cookies and other meals for fun. One of the interesting things about this isle however were how they
had more Life size toys than the boys. The life size toys were usually barbie dolls where they could
dress up the toy in the girls actual clothing to see what the barbie doll would look like. Another thing
that I noticed was that most of the toys were very similar to one another because the girl isles
comprised of different types of dolls rather than

Chapter Fifteen Week 1 Accounting Summary
I chose to do a section within chapter fifteen which is all about accounting. In my opinion, accounting
is the hardest concentration you can take on. I believe this because there are many different
components that go into even just a simple transaction. Accounting is a comprehensive system for
collecting, analyzing, and communicating financial information to a firm s owners and employees, to
the public, and various regulatory agencies. The basics to accounting in bookkeeping. However,
accounting is much more than just keeping records. Accountants assess the information in order to
make firms make informed decisions. Many people rely on this information including business
managers, employees and unions, investors and creditors, tax authorities, and government regulatory
agencies. Each one of them use the same information but in a different way. For example, business
majors use the information to assess how they are doing and what they would like to do in the future.
However, investors and creditors use the information to assess the risk of both lending money and
potentially investing in them. Information kept by accountants are a vital part of anyone in the
business sector. There are two main fields you can go into. The first is financial accounting. Financial
accounting focuses on the external users. This includes stockholders, agencies, suppliers, and
creditors. When they prepare their reports such as the income statement and the balance sheet, they
focus on the business as a whole. Managerial accounting serves internal users. ... Show more content

The first step is to understand exactly what it is. This is where many people struggle, they often
confuse accounting and finance. After there is a clear understanding, you can then look into the
different areas of accounting. After reading this section, I am most interested in the forensic area. I am
looking forward to continuing my education in this

Working Through The Copper Cycle Experiment
Title: Working through the Copper Cycle Experiment to Gain Understanding
Author Information
Lab Partner: Leah Richmond* and Shelby Alred
Course: CHEM 111 571
Introduction:
During lab, we put the metal copper under different circumstances so that we could gain a better
understanding as to what goes on in the copper cycle. Throughout each stage of the copper cycle, we
deduced what type of chemical reaction took place based on observation, made observations about the
state of the metal and what type of environment it was subjected to, and determined what the net ionic
equation was for each stage. Following the experiment, we calculated what the percent yield was and
compared the changes in mass from the initial stage to the final stage.
Materials and Methods:
First, we assembled a fume hood by using a ring stand, a hot plate, a 50 ml beaker, an iron ring to
secure the beaker, and a plastic funnel hooked up to rubber tubing and an aspirator. A hose from the
sink was then connected to the aspirator and the pressure that the water created allowed the fume hood
to remove whatever excess gas was given off during the experiment. In cycle step one, we placed
approximately 250 mg of copper into the 50 ml beaker then added 6 ml of HNO_3. We then heated the
plate to 10° C until the reaction took place to save time. We would recommend heating the plate
initially at 20 C in order to speed up the experiment. The solution was at 11 ml total at the end of
step1. In cycle step 2, we

Essay on The Internet
When historians look back at the latter half of the twentieth century, they might well remember it less
as the time man walked on the moon and more as the time when the Internet was born. The
Advancement Research Projects Agency Network, known as the ARPANET, was developed in the
1960 s by the U.S. Department of Defense. This was the world s first operational informational
sharing network, and the predecessor of what we now call the Internet. Although the creation of the
Internet was primarily to allow the sharing of resources, its true popularity came in the ability to send
and receive mail. This communication process, known as electronic mail or more commonly referred
to as e mail, has now evolved into the most used application on ... Show more content on

This technology meant that the conversations that were previously being e mailed and took seconds to
send and receive, were now taking place in real time. Instant Messaging software is simply a program
placed on a computer that connects to an on line service, similar to a phone line connecting to the
operator. This software permits computers to relay conversations over the Internet, which in turn
means two or more people can talk or correspond simultaneously. Instant Messaging eliminates any
delay issues with direct communication; however e mail also evolved into another forum through
Weblogs.
First introduced in the mid to late 1990 s, Weblogs, also referred to as blogs, are Internet webpages
where entries are made similar to a journal or a diary. These personal views or updates to a particular
subject are presented in reverse sequential order. Blogs can cover an array of topics including food,
politics or local news, but most function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text,
images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are
primarily textual and include photographs, videos or audio. Without any discretion on the choice of
topic, the questions becomes why would anyone want to air their personal problems or desires for
everyone to see?
According to an article entitled The Blog Phenomenon, author John Dvorak points out a few obvious
suggestions as to why participants in

The Stolen Bacillus
Juxstapositions of The Stolen Bacillus and The Adventure of the Bruce Partington Plans
The Scientific Method is a research tool used to analyze the realities of life by exploring new
phenomena, aquiring knowledge about the world around us and then, developing that data into
questions that will open up to further investigation. Moreover, this method made up of theories/data
that lead to the formation of a hypothesis. The hypothesis is the most important part of the experiment
because it constitutes inductive and deductive reasoning, but more importantly it is falsifiable and
realistic. This leads to the experimental portion of the scientific method where the researcher will test
his/her predictions and draw a conclusion based on the given ... Show more content on

Conversely, the visitor ousts the scientist s ability to scrutinize him and this conflict is what drives the
plot of the story. To begin, the bacteriologist inductively analyzes the visitors reaction to the cholera
by using words like the pale faced man, with a limp white hand and disengaged eye (page 1)
Proceeding, the visitor quotes ...those mere autonomies might multiply and devastate a city!
Wonderful! (page. 1) This deductively concludes for the bacteriologists that this strange man had
gruesome thoughts and poor intentions, leading to the scientists beginning hypothesis... Once he
brought the bottled cholera he saw the the gleam of satisfaction coming from the visitor. (pg.1) The
reason I believe this to be the hypothesis is because it is falsifiable; the reaction of a person seeing live
cholera, a ferocious germ such as that can lead to many reactions. For example, the visitor could
possibly want to experiment with the cholera more, finding an interest in the science rather than the
destruction of it. Or perhaps, throwing up at the very grasp of the slim glass filled with the deadly
disease. This is what I believe leads to the bacteriologists experiment, which included details of the
cause and effect relationship between what would happen if cholera leaked into the

The Role Of Immigrants In Animal Crackers And Annie Hall
The role of the immigrant as an American cultural figure cannot be understated, and the cultural
values associated with immigrant versus non immigrant Jews in particular are primarily class values.
However, even once assimilated and wealthy, upper class Jews face a difficult situational dichotomy:
Whether to join the high minded literati (a category that Jews helped shape in America) or the more
vulgar entrepreneurial class. The anxieties associated with Jewish history complicate this choice, and
its consequences are echoed in many films, including Animal Crackers and Annie Hall. Perhaps the
dichotomy between the high minded wealthy Jew and the vulgar wealthy Jew can be most clearly seen
by looking at Jack and Harry Warner. As profiled in Gabler s Between the Old Life and the New,
Harry Warner was a devoted family man, lived a quiet life... a stern moralist who would eventually
assume the role of moral adjudicator to his entire family. He was also a more observant Jew, and less
religiously assimilated. Jack, meanwhile, was a veteran provocateur who incited everyone, regarded as
a frustrated comedian who liked nothing better than telling very bad jokes in a loud voice, and seemed
to enjoy creating embarrassment. He also repeatedly refused any religious instruction. In some sense,
Jack could be seen as assimilated while Harry could be seen as defiantly Jewish. But it would be just
as easy to paint the opposite picture: Despite their religious differences, Harry put effort into coming
across as a member of high society, while Jack intentionally resisted and even opposed those norms.
Harry would often have to apologize for Jack, claiming he didn t have the advantages of such a good
education. Here, we see the beginning of the high minded/vulgar dichotomy that would continue to
separate wealthy Jews for the next century. The Marx Brothers Animal Crackers shows that this trope
was already recognized in the culture, and plays with the trope intentionally. When we first see
Groucho Marx, he is playing the role of Captain Spaulding, a rich adventurer returned from Africa. It s
never quite clear, in the film, to what extent Groucho is pretending to be Spaulding, and to what extent
he actually

The Importance Of A Good Cafe Place
The definition of a good café place is not only about its drink or food, but also about its environment
and the employee s service attitude. I have been to many places to buy coffee in Starbucks, and I have
to say I really enjoy the Starbucks in MU in my school. The background of the Starbucks is very
interesting. The first Starbucks opened in Seattle, Washington, on March 30, 1971, by three partners
who met while they were students at the University of San Francisco. The three were inspired to sell
high quality coffee beans and equipment by coffee roasting entrepreneur Alfred Peet after he taught
them his style of roasting beans. The company took the name of the chief mate in the book Moby
Dick: Starbuck, after considering Cargo House and Pequod Nowadays, the company has been in
North America, Latin America, Europe, and the other 37 countries, with more than 12,000 coffee shop
and more than 117,000 employees. The location of Starbucks is in the northwest corner of Memorial
Union. Although the location is not in the middle of Memorial Union, it near by the Hayden Library
and there is a small square outside. People can find lots of places to sit and avoid the sunshine under
the shadow of the small square. Also there is a small platform in the center of the small square, and
some bands always perform there. People can enjoy the coffee and some beautiful songs at the same
time while sitting outside the Starbucks. There are about 30 desks outside, and some big parasols

  • 2. The Character Of Solomon In The Book Of Ecclesiastes 1. How is the book of Ecclesiastes and the character of Solomon used in this chapter as expressions of despair? The reign of Solomon created a sense of despair since both sections grip onto the present as if they present is going by too quickly. With the result of the present leaving will turn out to be nothing in the end. In addition, these texts also lack the promises from the coming future, and what they will bring as it comes forth. Especially, there is a sense that nothing new will come into view, making the reader feel as if they are stuck in a never ending cycle. 2. According to B, how does life become a dissatisfied coping, a grudging trust, and managing that dares never ask too much. Do you agree or disagree? Life comes to this point when life no longer feels genuine, one s outlooks on life has been mulled over due to the mundaneness of their present life. A lot of people choose to live their lives comfortably choosing not to venture out of their comfort zones. Many people believe the lie one must only do this or that, and or what is expected of them. However, this is not the kind of life Jesus calls us to live out, instead he wants us to venture outside of the lines others have drawn for us to stay within. I agree in some seasons of life many people may allow their lives to become this, however we do possess the power to break those down, and create a new outlook on life. 3. Explain three actions that penetrate despair in your own words. What are they and what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Visual Rhetorical Rhetoric as theory allows the reader to analyze visual artifacts to produce a certain meaning that can be different to each individual. The theory can draw to attention otherization of people groups, how consumer culture in America can change poverty around the world, how southern culture can produce obesity and set bad morals for children, and create a call to action for the people. All of these examples listed are from a campaign commercial from Compassion International that was produced in 2008. Compassion is an organization that mainly revolves around showing ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Growing up, southerners are taught to be morally good and follow direction of their elders. One of the common televised and know practices is when parents say to their children you are not getting up from this table until you clean your plate. This one humorous and little statement has caused a dilemma. This commercial that Compassion aired completely obliterates the southern teaching. They are asking for people to give up meals and money to help fund these children. The southern culture has created bad habits that flow from generation to generation. Also, the south has the largest obesity rate in the nation. That statistic alone proves that southerners consume more than any other part of the country. These are the people that need to be targeted to give up meals, and money for Compassion International. Culture in the south takes food for granted and spends thousands upon thousands of dollars on food per year. The campaign urges people to just give $30 dollars a month to support a child. That is equivalent to not eating fast food as a family a couple of times a month, but the entitlement of the south is hard to break. This commercial brings to light the severity of what southerners live in and how unaware people are to the poverty of the world. Giving up going out to eat a couple of meals a month is more than ... The International Community and Responsibility to Protect 3318 Words 14 Pages The International Community has a Right to Intervene in Sovereign States in order to end Serious Human Rights Abuses? Discuss. Humanitarian intervention is definitely one of the most controversial subjects of the recent decades among states, international organizations, non governmental organizations (NGOs) and academia. The centre of the debate is the clash of traditional principles of state sovereignty and new adopted norms on use of force for humanitarian purposes. Despite the political controversies between the countries, humanitarian intervention is now an international norm which calls for action anytime there are serious mass life threatening ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The discussion on humanitarian intervention emerged in the 1990s with the end of the Cold War and severe ethnical violence taking place. However, the legal roots of humanitarian intervention are found on Chapter VII of UN Charter and UN Convention on Prevention and Punishment of Genocide (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945; Convention on Genocide, 1948). With the second wave of democratization occurring from the late 1940s to 1960s it was strongly embraced the concept of sovereignty by the new liberated states (Huntington, 1991). Same concept is used currently as a counter argument to humanitarian intervention (J. Bajorja R. McMahon, 2013). However, the co founders of ICISS argue ...that sovereign states are defined not by the inviolability of their borders the assumption of the post colonial era but by their obligation to protect their citizens (Homans, 2011). Humanitarian intervention represents a revolution in the international law, as it challenges the old Treaty of Westphalia (Treaty of Westphalia, 1648), which certified the domestic sovereignty of state actors. This principle was also endorsed by the UN Charter in 1945 in the article 2(7), where it was stated that nothing should authorize intervention in matters essentially within the domestic jurisdiction of any state (Charter of the United Nations and the Statute of International Court of Justice, 1945, p.3). • 6. The Soviet Union Won Four Gold Medals : James walks into the Olympic Center Stadium, feeling a brisk of cold air hit him as he sees the clean sheet of ice. He looks around to see Americans, his people, laughing anxiously around him and others taunting their elite rivals. Must have drank too much, he thought. He walks down the stairs, a classic Vienna Beef hotdog Chicago Style on one hand, and his ticket held in the other. 27E it read. James walked 12 more steps down and found his seat. When he finally reached his spot, he sat down and relaxed. This was going to be one of the biggest games of the year, James thought. O Party of Lenin, the strength of the people, To Communism s triumph lead us on!, he sang to himself, how the national anthem of his beautiful union spoke to him. His wife and him stood at the entrance of the stadium for a while, so she could reapply her bold red lipstick, and highlight her beauty; of which every Soviet lady did. He grabbed her hand, and escorted her down to his seat, 27E and 27F. While he was walking down, he noticed an American, downing a beer. Developed originally in the early 1900s by a finance executive at E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Co., of Wilmington, Delaware, the DuPont system of financial analysis provides a classic template for the decomposition process that can be used to build integrated systems of performance metrics. The traditional role that the DuPont formula plays in finance is to help investors select projects and investments that are the most profitable. The first application of the DuPont Model was in 1918. It was used to help with DuPont s decision to become a major stakeholder in General Motors (Mitchell, Mitchell, Cai, 2013). The DuPont accounting labs exported their ROI measure during Pierre du Pont s reign from 1920 to 1923 as president of General Motors Corp., in which DuPont had taken a major stockholding. At GM and across corporate North America, ROI has since formed the basis of financial control (Southerst, 1993). Over the years, it has evolved into a classic diagnostic tool for identifying strengths, weaknesses and potential improvements to a business s capital structure in order to maximize shareholder wealth. Individuals with ADHD, LD and RD have more learning problems than in a child with either ADHD, learning disabilities, or RD alone (Faraone, et al., 2001; Jensen, Martin, Cantwell, 1997; Smith Adams, 2006). For example, students with ADHD and learning disabilities had demonstrated poorer reading skills (Woodcock Johnson III), inferior social skills, and more behavior problems when compared to their peers with learning disability alone, and those differences persisted over time (Wei et al., 2014). Pelletier and Astington (2004) found that children s age, language ability, non verbal intelligence and theory of mind influenced their narrative development. As individuals become older their level of narrative skills increases. Later language development is linked to improved discourse (Nippold, 1998). For example, connective terms (e.g. and) tend to be overused by seven to nine year olds while adults use connective terms sparingly therefore increasing the technicality of their speech (Berman, 1997). Narrative gains and presentation, in particular autographical memory, are moderated by certain factors. Harley and Reese (1999) wanted to study how children s verbal memory development is influenced by their self knowledge and parental styles. Fifty eight mother child dyads were assessed on multiple domains including their joint memory conversations, parental language skills, child s self recognition, and memory of past narrative skills. Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy The Apollo 11 Moon Landing Conspiracy Officially Accepted Story During the 1960 s and 70 s, America and the USSR were in the midst of the Cold War Era, a period of time where instead of fighting each other they competed against each other in order to be the first nation to win the space race and that meant landing a human on the moon and have them return safely before the other country. In 1961 Russia was ahead of America in the space race after managing to launch Yuri Gagarin into space, have him orbit the earth and return him safely , 23 days before American astronaut Alan B Shepard was able too. A five forces analysis is done to rate the attractiveness of an industry. Threat of new entry is low because the barriers to entry are high. Newcomers to the industry would require an enormous amount of up front capital to set up the distribution networks and infrastructure, such as establishing hubs, and acquiring aircraft and a large amount of ground transportation vehicles (vans, trucks, ect). Economies of scale are significant and would deter new firms from entering because initial sales volumes would be low do to the fact that existing brands already have strong brand identification, and there are no cost advantages to entering, like government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The airports and the aircraft suppliers aren t only relying on the express mail industry, so that also gives those suppliers more power to charge what they want (landing fees, cost of planes). Ground transportation vehicles is the only input that would allow for more bargaining power since there are numerous alternatives available, there is more room for the industry players to negotiate price. The availability of substitutes is medium mainly because there aren t a large number of substitutes out there for express mail outside of the industry. Most next day deliveries are business documents, parcels, letters, ect, not typically cargo. So substitutes could include email and faxes, both are faster and cheaper than express mailing. • 15. Character Analysis Of Mae West s She Done Him Wrong Novelist, playwright, and producer are all credentials that are a part of Mae West s career, but it is not what comes to mind when looking back on the Hollywood starlet s career. From Marilyn Monroe to Anna Faris, Mae West is one of the first Hollywood starlets who took control of her public image and is known as a pop culture icon. She is the inspiration for Dali s Face of Mae West. Dali shows interest in the construction of her public image as an actress and celebrity (Evans, 107). Mae West is a part of Hollywood s Pre Code era. Her combination of provocative humor and playing the voluptuous blonde role, Mae West uses her public image to dominate Hollywood s patriarchal institution. The 1933 film, She Done Him Wrong is an American comedy starring Mae West and Cary Grant. The film is originally a play West wrote in 1928, but due to censorship and ticket sales many of her plays productions were shut down. Although she is not given credit as screenwriter, West continuously kept writing and re writing her material so the adaptation of the play would work as film. Unlike many Hollywood starlets, production companies were not hiring West to play specific roles in their films to bring in audiences, but West was writing scripts and creating characters to play roles she knew audiences would want to see (Evans, 108). In this case an Illinois law was challenged, this law stated that it is forbidden to carry a gun ready to use (loaded, immediately accessible, uncased), with exceptions for police, security personnel, hunters, members of target shooting clubs, a person on his own property, in his home, in his fixed place of business, or on the property of someone who has permitted him to be there with a ready to use gun. His most popular novels sent warnings about totalitarianism to its readers, leaving that as his mark in literature. However, a closer look at his writing shows his changing political views based on both the political movements at the time and Orwell s experiences with those political movements. Eric Arthur Blair, better known under the pseudonym George Orwell, based his writing on the political climate during his time. Living from 1903 to 1950, Orwell found himself writing about the ever changing, politically charged environment around him. As Orwell wrote, background information must be included because one cannot assess a writer s motives without knowing something of his early development. His father, who Orwell was not close to, was a minor British official in the Indian Civil Service, which would later influence his opinion on British imperialism in Burma. His family was lower middle class, even though they had high social status. They returned to England, where Orwell went to school at Eton on a scholarship (Baker vii). He was unhappy during his time at school since his family made much less money than the other boys there. After Eton, he returned to Burma as a member of the Imperial constabulary. He discovered that he was hated by the Burmese since he was a symbol of British imperialism, which made him hate the work itself (viii). His experiences lead to his writing, Burmese Days, and his return to England to live amongst the beggars in the East End of London. His experiences both there and in the slums of Paris lead to Down and Out in Paris and London and The Road to Wigan Pier. The latter ended with harsh criticisms of the socialist movements of the time. His time in the Spanish Civil War, which included nearly losing his life at the hands of communists who wanted to suppress their political opponents, was detailed in Homage to Catalonia and left him with a lifelong dread of communism. This experience could have been why his next writing, Coming Up for Air, showed a more conservative side (Baker vii). • 35. Advantages Of Congestion Pricing Congestion pricing is a particular type of road pricing where variable fees are charged with an explicit purpose to reduce congestion (Litman, 2007). It is a method of harnessing the power of the market to reduce the waste associated with traffic congestion and it uses market forces to allocate limited facility capacity among users by their need to travel and their willingness to pay (TCRP, 2003). Congestion pricing is also known as congestion charging, value pricing, variable road pricing, or pricing peak period pricing. Congestion pricing works by shifting purely discretionary rush hour highway travel to other transportation modes or to off peak periods. This means increasing prices during certain periods of time or at the places where congestion occurs or introducing a new usage tax or charge when peak demand exceeds available supply in the case of a tax funded public good provided free at the point of usage. According to the economic theory behind congestion pricing, the aim of this policy is to use the price mechanism to make users more aware of the costs that they impose upon one another when consuming during the peak demand. In this case, they should pay for the additional congestion they create, thus encouraging the redistribution of the demand in space or in time (Button, 1993) or shifting it to the consumption of a substitute public good, for instance, switching from private transport to public transport (Small Verhoef, 2007). This pricing mechanism has been used in several public utilities and public services for setting higher prices during congested periods. This is a method to better manage the demand for the service to avoid expensive new investments just to satisfy peak demand. • 37. Analysis Of Charge Of The Light Brigade Good morning and welcome back, to Poetry and Society, lesson 5. In today s lesson we will be exploring the attitudes and morals portrayed in the poem Charge of the Light Brigade written by Alfred Lord Tennyson; through the literary devices, themes and form, and how they are relevant to the Crimean War. Alfred Lord Tennyson, is a renowned British poet from the Victorian Era. Loving books as a little kid, lead to him to writing a 6000 lined epic poem at the age of 12. Since that age he continued to write poems and soon enough in 1850 became the most popular poet in the Victorian Era. Two years later the Crimean war broke out between the Russians and the British. Tennyson, intrigued by the war, decided to write about the famous Battle of Balaclava; where the British Cavalry had in fact attacked the wrong unit whilst in battle. This lead to his most famous poem Charge of the Light Brigade, which informed both people at the time and people now of the mistake the British made. The Crimean war, an attack of the British attempting to take over land in Ukraine on the Crimean Peninsula. War at the time was used to unify a nation, as well as inform other countries of the potential and status of one s country. Britain at the time was slowly expanding out to countries, owning 33 countries at the time. Britain was considered quite patriotic under the ruling of Queen Victoria, men that went out to fight in the war were doing it purely for their country, and nothing more. This lead ... However, in 1990 in the case of Employment Division, Dept. of Human Resources of Oregon v. Smith, The Supreme Court rejected this balancing of interest test that was found in Sherbert and Yoder. The Smith case involved the firing of two members of the Native American Church for ingesting peyote for sacramental purpose. Conversion Of 2d Image Into 3d Image Using Segmentation Conversion of 2D Image into 3D Image Using Segmentation Prashant Dahiya1 Computer Scientist at Adobe Systems, Noida 1pdahiya@adobe.com Abstract Image captured by two dimensional camera contains no depth information. However depth information is needed in many applications, for example in robotic vision, satellite imaging and target tracking. To extract depth information from images Stereo matching is used. The main aim of our project is to use stereo matching algorithms to plot the disparity map of segmented images which gives the depth information details. Particle Swarm Optimization and K means algorithms are used for image segmentation. Our main objective is to implement stereo matching algorithms on the segmented images, compare the results of K means and PSO on the basis of objective parameters such as PSNR, execution time, density of disparity map and compression ratio and perform subjective analysis of reconstructed 3 D images. The compared results show that the Particle Swarm Optimization algorithm gives better 3 D reconstructed image. Keywords K means, PSNR, Particle Swarm Optimization, DSP, FPGA, ACO I. INTRODUCTION People can see the depth of the objects because they see the 3D world from two moderately dissimilar angles (one from right eye and other from left eye). Our brains then figure out how close things are by determining how far apart they are in the two images from our eyes. Our objective here is to do the similar thing using a computer. Initially a ... Even though this seemed impossible in 1924, in this essay we will go through how exactly Stalin was able to slowly secure his grip on this position of power and how he used the control of party organisation, luck, the weakness of his opponents, as well as his political abilities and policies, to emerge as Party leader rather than Trotsky. Family is a term that has changed over time; as a result the traditional definition of family is inadequate, and limited to describe the modern version of the term. Our society tends to attach itself to the traditional conceptualization of family better know as a nuclear family which includes a set of parents, and their biological offspring (Kompara). In America, known as a melting pot of all cultures and races, there are many implications for the word family thus there is no such thing as a traditional family. The traditional definition, which is limited parents and their children, can no longer be used to describe an American family because of our diverse and changing familial structures. The word family dates back to the 13th century and is derived from Old French word famelie ( Family ). The word originally defined the relationship of group of people living under the same roof, household [including servants] (1337), group of people related by blood, lineage (1442 4), a group of people who share a common philosophy (1658) ( Family ). I believe this because there are many different components that go into even just a simple transaction. Accounting is a comprehensive system for collecting, analyzing, and communicating financial information to a firm s owners and employees, to the public, and various regulatory agencies. The basics to accounting in bookkeeping. However, accounting is much more than just keeping records. Accountants assess the information in order to make firms make informed decisions. Many people rely on this information including business managers, employees and unions, investors and creditors, tax authorities, and government regulatory agencies. Each one of them use the same information but in a different way. For example, business majors use the information to assess how they are doing and what they would like to do in the future. Working Through The Copper Cycle Experiment Title: Working through the Copper Cycle Experiment to Gain Understanding Author Information Lab Partner: Leah Richmond* and Shelby Alred Course: CHEM 111 571 Introduction: During lab, we put the metal copper under different circumstances so that we could gain a better understanding as to what goes on in the copper cycle. Throughout each stage of the copper cycle, we deduced what type of chemical reaction took place based on observation, made observations about the state of the metal and what type of environment it was subjected to, and determined what the net ionic equation was for each stage. Following the experiment, we calculated what the percent yield was and compared the changes in mass from the initial stage to the final stage. Materials and Methods: First, we assembled a fume hood by using a ring stand, a hot plate, a 50 ml beaker, an iron ring to secure the beaker, and a plastic funnel hooked up to rubber tubing and an aspirator. A hose from the sink was then connected to the aspirator and the pressure that the water created allowed the fume hood to remove whatever excess gas was given off during the experiment. In cycle step one, we placed approximately 250 mg of copper into the 50 ml beaker then added 6 ml of HNO_3. We then heated the plate to 10° C until the reaction took place to save time. We would recommend heating the plate initially at 20 C in order to speed up the experiment. The solution was at 11 ml total at the end of step1. In cycle step 2, we ... The Advancement Research Projects Agency Network, known as the ARPANET, was developed in the 1960 s by the U.S. Department of Defense. This was the world s first operational informational sharing network, and the predecessor of what we now call the Internet. This software permits computers to relay conversations over the Internet, which in turn means two or more people can talk or correspond simultaneously. Instant Messaging eliminates any delay issues with direct communication; however e mail also evolved into another forum through Weblogs. First introduced in the mid to late 1990 s, Weblogs, also referred to as blogs, are Internet webpages where entries are made similar to a journal or a diary. Blogs can cover an array of topics including food, politics or local news, but most function as more personal online diaries. A typical blog combines text, images and links to other blogs, web pages and other media related to its topic. Most blogs are primarily textual and include photographs, videos or audio. • 50. The Role Of Immigrants In Animal Crackers And Annie Hall The role of the immigrant as an American cultural figure cannot be understated, and the cultural values associated with immigrant versus non immigrant Jews in particular are primarily class values. However, even once assimilated and wealthy, upper class Jews face a difficult situational dichotomy: Whether to join the high minded literati (a category that Jews helped shape in America) or the more vulgar entrepreneurial class. The anxieties associated with Jewish history complicate this choice, and its consequences are echoed in many films, including Animal Crackers and Annie Hall. Perhaps the dichotomy between the high minded wealthy Jew and the vulgar wealthy Jew can be most clearly seen by looking at Jack and Harry Warner. As profiled in Gabler s Between the Old Life and the New, Harry Warner was a devoted family man, lived a quiet life... a stern moralist who would eventually assume the role of moral adjudicator to his entire family. He was also a more observant Jew, and less religiously assimilated. Jack, meanwhile, was a veteran provocateur who incited everyone, regarded as a frustrated comedian who liked nothing better than telling very bad jokes in a loud voice, and seemed to enjoy creating embarrassment. He also repeatedly refused any religious instruction. In some sense, Jack could be seen as assimilated while Harry could be seen as defiantly Jewish. But it would be just as easy to paint the opposite picture: Despite their religious differences, Harry put effort into coming across as a member of high society, while Jack intentionally resisted and even opposed those norms. Harry would often have to apologize for Jack, claiming he didn t have the advantages of such a good education. Here, we see the beginning of the high minded/vulgar dichotomy that would continue to separate wealthy Jews for the next century. The Marx Brothers Animal Crackers shows that this trope was already recognized in the culture, and plays with the trope intentionally. When we first see Groucho Marx, he is playing the role of Captain Spaulding, a rich adventurer returned from Africa. It s never quite clear, in the film, to what extent Groucho is pretending to be Spaulding, and to what extent he actually ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
