The Impact of Gambling in America
The Impact of Gambling in America The impact of gambling on the United States carries both
positive and negative effects into our society and communities. Gambling is a leisure activity that
usually provides excitement and fun for its players. Gambling also brings tremendous amounts of
money into the economy and provides employment. American cities such as Las Vegas and Atlantic
City thrive off of the gaming industry. Sure, gambling can be fun and exciting, but at what point does
that fun activity develop into a pathological problem? I will contend that the harmful side effects of
gambling far outweigh any positive aspects. Pathological gambling can destroy families, careers, and
lives. The reason why casinos are so successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example, in 1998 the bankruptcy rate in Atlantic City, New Jersey per 100,000 people was 1,019
while the rate of the state of New Jersey was only 555 (gao.gov). In 2003, there was a proposal to add
casinos into the mix of Kentucky s gambling options. Dr. John Kindt, a professor of commerce at the
University of Illinois said that bringing casinos to Kentucky would be bad economics and bad social
policy . Studies show that within the 35 mile feeder market around a casino, gamblers will spend 10
percent less on food, 25 percent less on clothing and that 37 percent will dip into their savings to pay
for gambling. For every three (video slot) machines, you ll be losing two jobs from the feeder market
economy, Kindt said. This occurs because each machine can be expected to bring in $100,000 per year
that will not be used elsewhere in the economy (kybaptist.org). This is a serious issue that occurs
when business owners do not think about how their actions will affect others in the future.
Not only does gambling affect the economy of our communities, but it also has social effects. There
are many negative consequences of gambling, while there are minimal positive outcomes. Beginning
with the positive side, gambling is a recreation, a break from the everyday pressures of life and a relief
from stress. People feel good about themselves when they do hit a jackpot or win big . Without
gambling, certain sports such as horse racing and boxing would not be nearly as

Relationship Between Barbie Dolls And The Development...
Primary data will be used to answer the research questions guiding this research. The population,
sample and procedure will be covered in the following sections. Sample The population will be
gathered from all adolescent girls ages 5 15 in Lubbock, TX. Given that children develop a self
concept at the age of 6, 120 African American female children ages 6 8 will be invited to participate in
the study from North, South, East and West Lubbock. This is the equivalence to a child s first, second
and third grade level. Prior to any participant recruitment or data collection, all procedures will be
approved by the school district and written parental consent will be obtained for each participating
girl. Verbal consent will be obtained from each girl prior to each session where they will be told they
can leave at any time if they wish to do so. Sampling Technique Probability sampling was chosen to
generalize the results of the study to the population and investigate the relationships between Barbie
dolls and the development in racial identity and self concept. A qualified sample was utilized to
control who can participate in the study. The sampling method best suited to gather the participants is
stratified sampling to get an adequate representation of the population. The characteristics of the
segments included age, gender, ethnicity and zip code. In each year group, one third of the girls will
be placed in different experimental conditions: traditional Caucasian Barbie doll,

What Features Of American Society Seem Most For Trouble...
1. What features of American society seem most to trouble the authors of the Port Huron Statement?
When writing the Port Huron Statement, its authors explicitly mentioned two key features of
American society that they found troubling. First, they considered the presence of racism and overall
bigotry in the American South as ...the permeating and victimizing fact of human degradation (Foner
283). The authors acknowledged the presence of practices that essentially dehumanized African
Americans in the South, claiming that its existence is what ...compelled most of us from silence to
activism (Foner 283). In addition to this, the authors of the Port Huron Statement were also troubled
by the existence of the atom bomb and the possibility that an all out nuclear war could break out at
any given moment. It is stated that the presence of the bomb brought awareness that ...we ourselves,
and our friends, and millions of abstract others...might die at any time (Foner 283). While
contemplating the aforementioned problems in American society, the authors of the Port Huron
Statement also began to rethink the American ideal that all men are created equal , finding paradoxes
between the claim and what was really occurring in American society. They stated that the declaration
...rang hollow before the facts of Negro life in the South (Foner 283) and was contradicted by the
United States ...economic and military investments in the Cold War status quo (Foner 283). These two

Marriage and Cohabitation
CHAPTER I
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study Mindanao State University is a melting pot of diverse culture coming from
different regions. Different people with different culture and tradition interact and socialize in the
campus. Students studying in the university are Muslims and non Muslims. Many of the non Muslims
studying here came from different places in Mindanao. Most students here engages to relationships
with the opposite sex because having a boyfriend or girlfriend gives them inspiration and motivation
in studying. Having a partner is very common to non Muslim students because they are far away from
their homes and their parents will not know that they have boyfriends or girlfriends here. We can

Many of the people he know who are engaging with this type of relationship said that they try
engaging with this because they want to try the experience on having a sexual intercourse with their
partners, to be sure that they will last longer, and to be motivated. These are only some of the reasons
that the researcher discovered as he asked some of the students he knows and practicing cohabitation.
The researcher observed that, in college life many students are being bullied if they don t have any
partners and if they don t experience sex, that s why many students are very eager in finding a partner
to experience what they really want and how these things will work. According to Simporios (2011),
cohabitation s great contribution to moral decadence has been a great concern of many people. The
continuous practice of this kind of relationship is quite alarming to society s moral bearing. The
presence of this very rampant situation in a state university would agitate a curiosity. This paper aims
to describe and explore the students practicing cohabitation, their reasons, the acceptability, and the
outcome of this type of relationship.
Statement of the Problem This is a study on cohabitation among students of Mindanao State
University. The following are the specific objectives of the study: 1. To know the extent of
acceptability of cohabitation among the students of Mindanao State

Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You
I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B
group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who many
may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned down and
murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff Daddy and
Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out as a tribute to
Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On March 9, 1997,
Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by shooting in Los Angles.
Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans. Distraught by Wallace s death,
they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to help gain closure for their selves. Within
the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly sought after both in popular music and in a genre of
its own. When Puff Daddy released the song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The
song, I ll Be Missing You , features leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and
background vocals from the famous R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be
Missing You was actually written by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd

Analysis Of Victor Frankenstein The Real Monster
Who s the Real Monster?
The story of Frankenstein was written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley in the year 1818. The story
depicts the life of the character Victor Frankenstein, who spends years creating an unnamed creature.
Victor abandons the creature the moment he awakens and the creature is then left to live life on his
own because is rejected by humanity. The creature kills several people and eventually leads to Victor s
indirect death. Throughout the story, the creature is depicted as a hideous, monstrous and evil creature,
while Victor is depicted as the victim of his wrath. At first glance, the creature seems like the bigger
monster of the story, but as we begin to view it from a deeper perspective we discover a different side.
In this essay, I plan to argue that contrary to popular belief, Victor Frankenstein is the real monster of
the story.
The Oxford Dictionary defines the word monster as an An inhumanly cruel or wicked person. There
were many cruel and wicked things that Victor did to the creature. Firstly, Victor decided to give the
creature a hideous body. Why would he not create his specimen to be beautiful and well formed in
every way? It was cruelty on the behalf of Victor to hideously deform his creation. He made his
creature to be a hideously deformed monster which every human being shunned. Throughout the story
Victor also considers himself to have a God Complex. Victor would be considered to have a God
Complex because he firmly believed that he has the

Why my person is called the masked magician and why and how I felt about that.
Conclusion about my person and also final thoughts about my person and how I feel about this person.
For my person it was hard for me to do because I don t know where I could find my person but I really
wanted to do him because and I don t know him personally but I consider him very close to my heart
because my life was influenced by him and I still am today. When I saw Val Valentino perform I got so

felt inspired by this because I love magic so much and when I saw how these tricks were done I just
really wanted to do these tricks. I have been trying to become a magician like Val Valentino because
he really inspired me to go for my dream. I really am able to relate to him because I tell people to go

Difference Between Reductionist Positions And The Holist...
This paradox resulted into two positions to explain the parts whole relation in this paradox. The two
positions is the Reductionist Position and the Holist Position. The Reductionist Position states that the
whole is the sum of its parts and the Holist Position states that the whole is greater than or different
from the sum of its parts. In the example of the basketball blunder the whole is represented as the total
average and the parts is represented by the individual average of the 2 point and 3 point shots of
Jordan and Chamberlain. Then the Reductionist Position, in terms of the basketball blunder, states that
the total average is the sum of Jordan s and Chamberlain s individual point averages. then the Holist

Statistics in Research
Definition of statistics:
Statistics is the science of learning from data, and of measuring, controlling, and communicating
uncertainty; and it thereby provides the navigation essential for controlling the course of scientific and
societal advances (Davidian, M. and Louis, T. A., 10.1126/science.1218685).
Statisticians apply statistical thinking and methods to a wide variety of scientific, social, and business
endeavors in such areas as astronomy, biology, education, economics, engineering, genetics,
marketing, medicine, psychology, public health, sports, among many. Many economic, social,
political, and military decisions cannot be made without statistical techniques, such as the design of
experiments to gain federal approval of a newly ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Statisticians recommend that experiments compare (at least) one new treatment with a standard
treatment or control, to allow an unbiased estimate of the difference in treatment effects. 2. Design of
experiments, using blocking to reduce the influence of confounding variables, and randomized
assignment of treatments to subjects to allow unbiased estimates of treatment effects and experimental
error. At this stage, the experimenters and statisticians write the experimental protocol that shall guide
the performance of the experiment and that specifies the primary analysis of the experimental data. 3.
Performing the experiment following the experimental protocol and analyzing the data following the
experimental protocol. 4. Further examining the data set in secondary analyses, to suggest new
hypotheses for future study. 5. Documenting and presenting the results of the study. In contrast, an
observational study does not involve experimental manipulation. This type of study typically uses a
survey to collect observations about the area of interest and then performs statistical analysis.
Statistics is applied in the following ways in research: 1. In science
A very important component of the Scientific Method is the statistical analysis of your collected data
or observations. How you analyze the data, whether done correctly or incorrectly, will ultimately
determine the conclusions from your research.

The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of...
The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large Sized Livestock on the Formation and
Weathering Patterns of Soils
Introduction
Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long time
observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the western
rangelands that have developed out of the over grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among the upland
slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon and some
gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. Rangelands are areas of land on which
livestock are left to roam and graze. Traditionally the great plains and rolling hills of the Western
States have ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the grasslands
of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of Caribou in
Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different animals have
depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as how large their
populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight when they walk or
climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart too far from the focus of
this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this paper, unless otherwise
specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other cattle like livestock animals that
tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics.
The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of light, moderate,
or heavy grazing, with light indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and fewest animals
and heavy indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general terms may depend on
the particular species being considered.
Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will have
on another. Most rangelands are found on uplands (lower, flatter land is more often

The Perception That Our Capacity
The perception that our capacity (as youths) to learn and our capacity to lead are mutually exclusive,
and that to fulfill our potential to serve the country we must surrender our profound potential to
leadership, that we can be the engine that drives innovation and solves complex societal problems but
our capacity for leadership and wisdom is somehow limited is a false and suffocating judgment. This
ideology has destroyed the youths ability to be present in our nation s leadership. The youths present a
passionate and obscure hunger for success An unshakable will for prosperity. It is the responsibility of
the society to capture this youthful enthusiasm for leadership before they lose it to rioting confusion of
life the blot and blur of years. For age brings with it a strangeness of destiny that stabs the red waste of
youthfulness with fear. A leader that spends five years in office and has no thing to show for it at the
end of the day is strange enough, but the voters who vote for such a leader once again are touched by
the dark miracle of folly. If, in contrast, the voters change their view not simply looking out for the
best candidate but embracing them outright then the balance between the competing political forces
that has so long favored the incompetent leader will tilt away from him. And if this balance tilts away
from incompetent leadership, especially in Africa, it would result in the development of a peaceful,
democratic and prosperous society.

Ambition And Detection In Seth Gordon s Film King Of Kong
Seth Gordon s documentary King of Kong produced in 2007 is a very competitive and tensing video.
It expresses the gamers as very focused individuals and explains the hunger of winning for them. The
director Seth Gordon shows a contrast between ambition and obsession through codes and convection
as well as characteristics. The codes and conventions in the documentary also play a vital role in
portraying different aspects of personalities in different characters. They change your perspective
about certain people or events and make you more aware of what is going on. Billy Mitchell, one of
the players in the documentary, was shown extremely logical and very professional. In disparity with,
Steve Wiebe, another gamer, who was portrayed as a very hardworking and ambitious man. Having
said that, there were other characters in the documentary which helped shape these two players
identity and portrayal. Seth Gordon succeeds in persuading us to think a particular type of way

Essay On Social Anxiety
Anxiety, Relationships, and What to Do
Introduction
Social anxiety disorder is one of the most common mental illnesses in the United States. Chances are
you know somebody who has dealt with this issue (Kessler, etc., 2005) because it causes one third of
the population to experience distress or disability. It can affect quality of life by generating fear of
social situations and resulting in social withdrawal. One of the most central aspects of human life is
having close relationships particularly romantic relationships. Social anxiety is associated with
difficulty forming and maintaining close relationships (Lampe, etc., 2003). Despite the disorder s high
prevalence, its effects on relationships are not yet fully understood. Many ... Show more content on

Overcoming the Barriers At a glance, the research may seem to paint a bleak picture, but there is
reason for optimism. Firstly, not all socially anxious individuals have difficulties in their romantic
relationships. Secondly, the better that relationship scientists and clinical psychologists understand
these phenomena, the clearer the solutions can become; indeed, some are already becoming visible for
those who experience difficulty. A big part of the way social anxiety affects the quality of relationships
appears to be related to trust and support. This gives us a good place to start when we re trying to
improve our relationships (Simpson, 2007). The low levels of trust of socially anxious individuals are
linked to the symptoms and cognitive effects of the disorder itself: Other people are often viewed as
overly critical or even hostile, regardless of any evidence. How much we can trust others depends on
how much we can view them as having our best interests at heart (Simpson, etc., 2007). To combat
this and view a romantic partner as trustworthy, couples need to work together. The way social anxiety
affects perceived support is somewhat complex. Socially anxious people seem to have trouble noticing
the support their romantic partners provide. This comes back to the fact that social anxiety makes it
very difficult to view others as benevolent or as having good intentions (Simpson, 2007). It creates a

A deeper understanding can be gained by comparing the similarities and differences between different
artworks of a similar era and/or similar subjects. By bringing artworks together and comparing them
side by side it is easier to see what the artwork is trying to convey. There are many different pieces of
art that depict the Goddess Tara. By having an exhibition that contains the Goddess Tara in her green
manifestation, Tara, and Yellow Tara a viewer would be able to easily compare the three art works.
Although no two are alike, there are key similarities and differences that can be seen throughout the

she is usually wearing a crown and jewelry. These are all good indicators that we are viewing the
Goddess Tara. When different representations of her are brought together, it makes the view see the

In this case the father loses Beauty not out of love but out of his own weakness of addiction gambling.
As she strips away the petals of the flower, it symbolizes her stripping away the outer layers of
attachment and personality to find her true core. This image reflects the recurring motif of nakedness,
and foreshadows the metamorphosis at the story s end. The Beast has a mask like face like the
Marquis. Beauty explained the mask to be too perfect for human nature and could barely fit the Beast
face. Poor relationship with her father, the heroine here has more pride and anger than Beauty. Like
the other female protagonists, this heroine is initially treated as an object to be manipulated and
gambled away. The Beast in this version is associated with a tiger, a reminder of the heroine s mother
in The Bloody Chamber. He also lives on a threshold between the worlds of wild animals and humans.
The heroine s longing for the wild innocence of horses prefigures her later transformation. The symbol
of the rose begins to grow more complex here. It is not just a symbol of the heroine s purity and
virginity, as it also has thorns showing the pain of her objectification, but also her own fierceness and
pride. The Erl King will return in a later story as another metamorphic figure who controls the wind
and captures young women. Carter muses on the nature of her beasts, how there is a horror in living
life on the threshold, but also that there is a kind of beastliness that is internal as well as external. This
is another picture of decaying luxury, but the state of The Beast s mansion implies that he has let his
wild animal nature take over, and he has little care for keeping up the appearances of a nobleman.
Carter never fully describes her beasts, allowing them to inhabit a fantastic world where a tiger could

Examples Of Foreshadowing In The Demon Lover
Elizabeth Bowen/The Demon Lover From the moment that my pen touched paper, I have thought of
nothing but writing, and since then I have thought of practically nothing else.... [W]hen I have nothing
to write, I feel only half alive (British Literature 1228). This shows the passion that Elizabeth Bowen
had for writing. She had always dreamed of being a writer. Although she went through some rough
times, she always expressed her thoughts with her writing. Elizabeth Bowen had and an unstable
childhood that lacked parental love so when she wrote her stories they were mainly about her past
experiences such as the short story The Demon Lover.

Drover in the short story. Elizabeth also uses foreshadowing when Mrs. Drover is to scared to look at
the letter again. There it shows how Mrs. Drover feels as if there is an intruder or that the person that
wrote her the letter might return to treat her badly. A lot of the foreshadowing Elizabeth shows
throughout the short story is that Mrs. Drover feels a bad presence with her while she is getting things
that she needed (British Literature 171).
The flashback Shown in The Demon Lover is when she has the memory of meeting the soldier and
agreeing to marry him and giving a hint that Mrs. Drover thinks the letter came from him. She also
explains a flashback by how the soldier would treat her showing that she might had made a promise to
him that she didn t keep (British Literature 171).
Elizabeth Bowen uses ambiguity to create mystery to the story. As to how the letter arrived to the
house, who sent the letter, what promise Mrs.Drover made to her soldier fiance, and the ending of the
story all bring a thought of mystery when reading it. The promise that Mrs. Drover could have made
to the soldier could have been to always be true to him and not marry or that she would die if he died.
At the ending of the story it could have been the ghost of the dead soldier or that she has gone crazy
after the war (British Literature

Short Essay On Mother Teresa
Spread love everywhere you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier. Mother Teresa.
She was always loving people no matter what and she would always help out anyone in need. She
dedicated her life in helping homeless, the sick , the poor and the dying. Mother Teresa was a petite
woman who spent most of her life caring for the sick and dying. She fed, washed, and cared for
anyone who needed it. Mother Teresa s use of unique missionary work in India was an effective
method for change because she provided for the impoverished, improved healthcare for the poor, and
established a safe haven for everyone.
Mother Teresa devoted her life to helping the poor, sick, needy, and dying people in India. In 1948 she
asked the Pope if she could quit teaching so she could help the people in need and he finally said yes
after a year of lobbying. In the year 1952 she was able to open the first available hospice in Calcutta
where she stayed with the people who were living there until they died. Next year she opened the first
orphanage which took care of handicapped children and the children of dying mothers. One day she
stumbled upon a lady whose flesh was being eaten by mice. So she took the lady and stayed with her
until she died (Demkovich). Meeting with the abandoned women in streets of Calcutta, made Mother

Essay about Disability Rights
Disability Rights Movement
In 1817, the American School for Deaf was founded in Hartford Connecticut. This was the first school
for disabled children in the Western Hemisphere. Although this was not the beginning of the Disability
Rights Movement, it was a start to society, making it possible for people to realize that there were
those with disabilities out there in the world and something had to be done. The Disability Rights
Movement fought for equal access, opportunity, consideration, and basic human respect along with
dignity for those born blind, deaf, or anyone with other forms of physical or mental disability. The
purpose of social movements is to provide social change regarding a specific issue in which a

People with disabilities were also forced to enter institutions and asylums. Society hid people with
disabilities from a mean, fearful, and biased world. This continued until the Civil War and World War I
when our veterans returned in a disabled state expecting the US government to provide some sort of
help or rehabilitation in exchange for their service in the nation. Although President Roosevelt was the
first president with a disability to take office was a great advocate for the rehabilitation of people with
disabilities, the nation was still operated under the assumption that being disabled was and abnormal
condition and needed to be medically cured. In the 1940 s and 1950 s, World War II veterans started
placing pressure on the government for rehabilitation for their disabilities. The veterans made it more
visible to a country filled with thankful citizens who were concerned about the well being of the men
who sacrificed their lives for their country. By the 1960 s, the civil rights movement began to take
place and disabled citizens saw this as an opportunity to join forces along with the minority groups to
demand equal treatment, equal access, and equal opportunity for people with disabilities. The
Disability Rights Movement just like the others faced negative attitudes and stereotypes. In the 1970 s,
disability rights activists lobbied congress and marched on Washington to include civil rights language
for people with disabilities into the 1972 Rehabilitation

The Pros And Cons Of Suburbs Cities
Cities are places where the immature adults are being attracted to work and live in, for them to be
nearby their working space, institutions, etc. As they grow older and ready to start families, the living
conditions of the cities drives them out and they end up lending in the residential district situated on
the outskirts of the city or town so called suburbs (Collins English Dictionary, 2012). Despite the good
city lifestyle, holding out in the suburbs is what people from the city often think of. Nonetheless, it
holds both pros and cons viz. Large space, reasonable prices; quality local public school, conducive
atmosphere and low crime rate. On the opposite, long commute to work, sparse Public transportation;

Suburbs provide families with quality local public schools to register their kids in. Since, it is situated
in a quiet and distraction free environment, teaching and learning take place accordingly and ensure
better results at the end of the year.. So, if you have kids or planning to have kids, relocating to the
nearest suburb area would be a good consideration.
Suburbs areas are safer atmospheres to raise kids. In that respect are far fewer car accidents than in the
city which contribute to lower car insurance prices. Parents do not stress about monitoring children;
when they are schooling nearby, they can freely walk to train without the parent. Being there can be
much less stressful than in the hustle and hustle of the metropolis. (Wiseman Insurance Agency, 2013)
Suburban areas consist of primarily middle and upper class folks. The bearing of the wealthy families
creates an environment with less crime rate; nicer neighborhoods and more opportunities to build
friendships with neighbors. In summation, when dwelling in a smaller community; you will receive
the chance to grow to know around from around the area at events like block parties, and

How Did Martha Graham Contribute To Dance
I decided to research one of the most influential Modern Dance pioneers; Martha Graham. Graham s
contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s to
music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance including the
ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was born on May the
11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George and Jane Beers
Graham s three daughters. Martha s father was a doctor who specialised in nervous disorders. George
Graham was interested in the prevention of these particular disorders through physical activity; an
idea that certainly interested Martha. It was part of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Beginning with her best students from the Eastman school of Music, Graham started her own (now
famous) school for contemporary dance; The Martha Graham School for Contemporary Dance in New
York, where she continued to teach and express her own unique style. Graham mainly believed in
expression through dance so she tried very hard to create movement that focused on the realness of
life; her dance movements flowed with beauty and emotion. Modern dance is freeness and the ability
to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s influence on the art of
dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham also introduced the use of
moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was combined with speech. These were
all large changes and opened more possibilities and experiences to the world of dance. Graham also
got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead often chose a classy straight black dress for her
movement pieces.
Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American
premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of Electra
for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of the South
West. It was this

Essay on a Man For All Seasons
quot;A Man for All Seasons quot; by Robert Bolt: More s Moral Dilemma
During the English renaissance in the 1500 s, King Henry VIII wants a divorce from his wife for
various reasons, but divorce is against the Catholic religion. This is why he wants Sir Thomas More s
consent, because More is a highly respected Catholic, but he is such a good Catholic that he goes
against divorce. In the play, A Man for All Seasons, by Robert Bolt, King Henry VIII applies pressure
on Thomas More to support the divorce in many ways. He exerts it both directly and indirectly in
forms of threats and intimidation from various people. Henry forces Meg, More s quot;renaissance
woman quot; daughter, to take an oath in order to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
More still sticks to what he believes in, because he believes that he must always do what God wants
him to do, for there is no limit to what god can quot;reasonably want. quot; Meg does as much as she
can to persuade More to support the King, but it does not work, and More sticks to his morals.
Henry also orders Cromwell to pressure More to support the divorce. At first, Cromwell informs More
directly that the king is not pleased with him, and then says, quot;Yet you do not know that even now,
if you could bring yourself to agree with the Universities, the Bishops and the Parliament of this
realm, there is no honor which the King would be likely to deny you? quot; (page 66). More
acknowledges this and says, quot;I am well acquainted with His Grace s generosity, quot;
(page 66). Cromwell wants More to know that the king still has great respect for him, and if he
supports the divorce there would be quot;no honor which the King would be likely to deny quot; him.
More is not greatly affected by this type of pressure however, because he is the type of man that does
not let rewards tempt him to go against his morals. Cromwell realizes that More is stubborn on this
issue, and wants to execute him, so to More he directly reads the charges against him, quot; That you
did conspire traitorously and maliciously to deny and deprive our liege lord Henry of his undoubted
certain title Supreme Head of the
Church of England, quot; (pages 86 87). More

Security Risks And Risk Management
EHEALTH SECURITY RISK MANAGEMENT
Abstract
Protecting the data related to health sector, business organizations, information technology, etc. is
highly essential as they are subject to various threats and hazards periodically. In order to provide
security, the information has to adapt to certain risk analysis and management techniques which has to
be done dynamically with the changes in environment. This paper briefly describes about analyzing
the security risks and risk management processes to be followed for electronic health records to ensure
privacy and security.
Overview of Security Risk Management:
The data present in the Electronic Health Records that are recorded, maintained or transmitted by the
third party devices and so, must be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Further, privacy and security are like chronic diseases that require treatment, continuous monitoring
and evaluation, and periodic adjustment.
According to HIPAA, the required implementation specification for risk analysis requires a covered
entity to, conduct an accurate and thorough assessment of the potential risks and vulnerabilities to the
confidentiality, integrity, and availability of electronic protected health information held by the
covered entity.
The process of risk analysis consists of 9 steps:
Step 1. System Characterization:
Initially system characterization is required to accelerate the process of risk analysis. Through this
process, the information that is needed to be protected is identified. Some of the examples of
applications include Electronic health records, Laboratory information system, and pharmacy system.
The general support systems consist of computers, laptops, smartphones, email, etc. which are used in
the organization to support various applications. The risk analysis should stress upon systems that
have more effect on healthcare operations
Step 2. Threat Identification:
The next step is to identify threats. Threats can be of anything from earthquakes and tornadoes to
human errors, carelessness, hacking, hardware failure, power outage, etc. Identifying all the threats is
not necessary but it is important to identify the regular

Memento Mori Short Story Romanticism
After close reading the short story Memento Mori by Jonathan Nolan I have come to the conclusion
that Romanticism is prevalent in the story. After the attack that killed Earl s wife and injured Earl s
brain, he lost his ability to make new memories and so he was controlled and confined by other people
saying what they are doing is for his own good. Earl was trying to find his place in the universe, as
every day he had to wake up and relearn where he is and what he is doing. He was a man driven by
emotion, he had lots of hate and seemed pretty helpless but he also has a sense of dark humor that
helps him deal with his reality. His emotion was a key part of the story as it triggered his actions. But
of course, the only way he kept track of information ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When Earl was looking at the picture of himself with flowers standing over his wife s fresh grave, Earl
looks at the picture for a long time. Maybe he begins to cry. Maybe he just stares silently at the
picture. Eventually, he makes his way back to the bed, flops down, seals his eyes shut, tries to sleep (p.
87). The hall of mirrors shows how lost and confused Earl still is. Earl would make jokes that are sly
remarks aimed at no one but himself. An example of this is, CIGARETTE? CHECK FOR LIT ONES
FIRST, STUPID. Earl laughs at the sign, lights his cigarette, and takes a long draw (p.86). He also
titles himself The ten minute man . These all show how Earl did not take anything too seriously, he
really had nothing to lose and he knew it. You can t have a normal life anymore. You must know that.
How can you have a girlfriend if you can t remember her name? Can t have kids, not unless you want
them to grow up with a dad who doesn t recognize them. Sure as hell can t hold down a job (p. 88).
Being that he remembers everything before the accident he vividly remembers the accident it also
means that he will never forget the face of the man who do it. After searching the internet, I found the
name of the article Memento Mori has Latin roots, quoting Wikipedia, Memento mori is the medieval
Latin theory and practice of reflection on mortality . What this all means for the story is it s about
destiny and Earl is reflecting upon his wife s death, he would probably be content if he had gotten

Compare And Contrast Araby And A P
In Araby by James Joyce and A P by John Updike the narrators who are also the main characters both

occasion. These girls are older than the main characters and the main characters thinks these girls are
the most beautiful person they have ever seen. They try to impress these girls by doing things they
eventually regret. These stories have similar love and relationship ideas about the narrators and their
crushes, including the way they talk about their love for the girls, the way they try to win them, and
how they fail to get their attention. They way they talk about their love is similar because they both
describe her as the most beautiful thing that has ever lived. In Araby the narrator says Her dress swung

how he thinks she looks like an angel. Another example ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Second Middle Passage
Historically, the Second Middle Passage refers to the era of time and action of which slaves were
traded and sold between U.S. states. This is referred to as the Second Middle Passage as the first one
was quite similar to it the original Middle Passage refers to the time and process in which slaves were
first brought to the U.S. from Africa and even the West Indies. Up until December 18, 1865, when the
law abolishing slavery in the U.S. was adopted, slavery remained a viable means of torture that would
allow free labor and money for Southern Colonists. For a portion of time, the U.S. relied on the backs
of slaves to carry on their whole production processes and maintain economic balance. Overall, the
Second Middle Passage was called so due to the majority of similarities between that era and the
original Middle Passage, such as the same brutal process in which slaves were attained, the auctioning
of slaves, and the number of slaves traded and sold within the domestic slave trade statistics. Through
the same brutal process as the original middle passage slave trade, slaves were forcibly kidnapped and
tortured in order to be brought to the U.S., or traded within the U.S. as well. Slaves originally were
kidnapped and stolen from their tribes or towns in Africa and put onto boats in large number in order
to be shipped across the Atlantic ocean to the America. Document B mentions that a lot of slave

and most people have their headphones in instead of talking to each other. Then he speculated that

Ceramics Are Found From The Family Of Calcium Phosphates
Ceramics are found in the family of calcium phosphates. Ex. Tricalcium phosphates, Hydroxyapatite,
substitute apatite, biphasic system. They often have similar properties to the composition of bone.
Their objective is to only mimic the mineral component of bone. They can also be considered bio
absorbable. They avoid the formation of fibrous tissue, and encapsulation of the implant, thus isolating
it from the body system (this is a result of an immunological response). A lot of metal orthopedic
implants are coated with this material, to help avoid this type of reaction. Nonoxide ceramics An
example of this is silicon carbide. They have no sensitivity to fracture. They are also very chemically
stable. They provide good resistance to high temperatures, as well as have good physical strength.
They have good porosity to support new in growth of cells and will improve osteo integration in the
body. A lot of these ceramics are from wood derivatives, have often mimic the properties of plant

good overall composition, morphological traits, as well as strong physical and electrical properties. Si

PGC Vs Summum Case Study

when SVC appealed, the Fifth Circuit the ruling was reversed and held SVC s claim that license plates
are private speech an said that the Board engaged in constitutionally forbidden viewpoint

They argued that, The Court s decision passes off private speech as government speech and, in doing
so, establishes a precedent that threatens private speech that government finds displeasing (Alito,
Walker v SCV). The dissenting opinion used an example of a test; if you were to watch cars drive past
you on a highway and look at all of the license plates, you would see license plates that had the name
of a high school, university, sorority, company etc., and you would not think that these sentiments
reflected the State of Texas but people who own the cars (Alito, Walker v SVC). Justice Alito and the
other Justices described the license plates as little billboards where the government has government
speech on it but there is also room for the owner of the car to show their own messages on the
specialty plate. They further contended that the Board of Motor Vehicles of Texas was partaking in
viewpoint discrimination because the State of Texas was not allowing the messages of a private group
to be on the little billboard because some people may find the speech offensive. The minority also
explained that the Pleasant Grove City v Summum case is not a valid argument because of three
factors; The history of public monuments and the Texas license plate program cannot be more

Speech About The Story Fearless
Good Morning, I am a fellow student of ELA 8 period 7 8. In this class we had read the story fearless
where it is about a girl who sacrifices her life for the good of the girls in the institute. As a well known
fact, people who do stand up for what they believe in can determine the future values of the next
generation. Those people also bring hope to others that are hopeless. Hope is a feeling of expectation
and desire for a certain thing to happen. Literature can help us define the greater good by creating
stories that relate, set examples and show how us as a person can make big differences in other people
s life too. Throughout history there has been many examples of people who had created a major
change to our historical timeline. For example Around the time where polish wanted to become
independent from Germany I man named Maximilian Kolbe was born. His parents were great
examples for them fighting at the time where the attack of polish took place. Just a short period of
time after that world war 2 broke out. Maximilian at the time became a monk. As seemed to be an
ordinary person he helped hide the jews from the nazi empire to allow them to safely cross the border.

Themes Of The Absolute True Diary Of A Part Time Indian
Alexie Sherman s The Absolute True Diary of a Part Time Indian tells a very interesting story about a
boy named Junior, who throughout the entire novel, is trying to gain the acceptance of those around
him while telling a story about Native Americans as a whole. There is a very comical tone that is very
consistent throughout the entire novel that makes it seem much more personal, and allows to reader to
relate to junior and understand his situation. This coming of age story brings about many themes and
main ideas that are related to Native Americans of past and present. Themes such as imprisonment,
overall acceptance, poverty, education, stereotypes, and race. This novel is initially set on a Spokane
Reservation located in Wellpinit Washington. The Spokane tribe used to span over three million acres
of land along the Spokane river and retained a rich culture ( United States History ). The tribe was
separated into three bands: The upper, middle, and lower Spokane, which are now joined in one single
tribal group ( About Spokane Tribe ). It was not until 1881 that President Rutherford B. Hays allocated
a smaller reservation of land for the tribe. Approximately 150,000 acres of land was given to the
Spokane tribe, which is now where they reside, and is where the story begins ( United States History ).
The novel revolves around a young boy named Junior, whom Alexie Sherman lives vicariously
through. Belonging to the Spokane Indian Reservation tribe, his personality is, in sort,

Course Objectives: Valuation will be discussed as a unifying theme in this course. This includes such
issues as how to value a firm that is not publicly traded, how to value a potential merger, how to value
an investment project. We will examine the use of debt in a firm s financial structure and ask if that
has an impact on the value of the firm. If a firm pays dividends, does that increase the firm s value?
The key objective of this course is to build on the foundation of your introductory course in financial
concepts and to apply more advanced concepts in corporate finance in a decision making context.
Since computer literacy is essential to the application of finance theory, the course will incorporate a
number of opportunities for the use of computer tools in a problem solving environment.
After you have successfully completed this course, you will be able to:
Apply value based management to guide valuation of a firm and valuation of a capital budget project.
Be aware of the underlying factors that impact the value of a financial option.
Understand the basic features of options contracts and how they are priced.
Have an understanding of the use and misuse of derivatives.

for some excitement, new experiences, and a chance to travel the world without depleting your life
savings? Cruise ships have always been a luxurious get away from the daily CLUTTER of society.
Since, the first transatlantic cruise in the 1900 s, over 1 billion passengers have set sail for the high
seas and half of those passengers are frequent ones. Today, I want to share the insider secrets to why
cruising is the best vacation ever and only an experienced cruiser would know. I m going to explain
the ins and outs of planning a cruise and the shortcuts that could save you some hassles when planning
the cruise of your dreams. First of all, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Additionally, having a state issue ID is also important in proving your identity as well as your
residency. You should always have your passport and an ID with you when going to foreign countries
and planning a cruise. In order to even step aboard a cruise line you have to show your state ID as
well as your passport. Immigration is also a security issue all over the world. It would be an expensive
mistake to misplace your passport and ID, because you can be detained in a foreign country. Secondly,
some people assume in order to plan a luxurious cruise you need a travel agent, but truly all you need
is a destination and internet. A rule of thumb is to start planning for a cruise six months in advance and
collect as much knowledge and tips from websites that specializes in the cruise ship industry. The
internet is a vast collection of information just waiting for you to access it. You don t want to wait
until the last minute to research, because that is when careless mistakes happen and your dream cruise
should be spectacular. For this reason, you should access websites such as cruisecritic.com and cruise
reviews.com. These website have pools of knowledge that could make your cruise planning an easy
endeavor instead of a confusing one. With information about which months are the best for cruising,
to which tropical locations offer DAZZLING experiences, and to which places are experiencing

Essay On George Pullman
When you consider the contributions made toward the labor relations process, you should allude to
who made a commitment to ensure that opportunities were not only accessible, but also achievable
and goal oriented. One individual who made a tremendous commitment to the labor relations process
was George Mortimer Pullman. George Pullman was an entrepreneur who invented the sleeping car,
an invention that provided railroad cars with beds for passengers. These sleeping cars accommodated
passengers by allowing them to relax during times of travel. Even though sleeping cars were advanced
and innovative, they played a role in both the rise and fall of George Pullman.
Born March 3, 1831, George Pullman became the third child, and third son, of James and Emily
Pullman. He had nine brothers and sister; however, many of them died during infancy (CITATION
HERE). After the fourth grade, Pullman quit school and began working at his great uncle s general
store. He worked there until 1848, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He became weary of partnerships and decided to end his agreement with Benjamin Field. With help
from other company businessmen (John Crerar and Marshal Field), Pullman was able to collect Field s
shares in the company (CITATION HERE). From there, the company s name changed to Pullman s
Palace Car Company. In 1867, Pullman was elected president and general manager of the company by
the board of directors (CITATION HERE). Within the company, Pullman constructed five different
classes of sleeping cars. The different sleeping cars include diners, hotel cars, parlor cars, reclining
room cars, and sleepers (CITATION HERE). One way Pullman administered business was by creating
his own town. Founded in 1880, Pullman, Illinois was designed to house employees of the Pullman
Company. This was Pullman s way of dissolving some of the labor issues in the nation (CITATION

New Negro
The Harlem Renaissance from 1919 to 1930 s was a time for United States to rapidly change,
especially with the rise of the generation we refer to as African Americans today. It was an era of
literature, an era of slavery, and an era that made the biggest impact in the history of United States.
The term Negro refers to someone of the black race or black ancestry and it defines as black in
Spanish and Portuguese. African American scholar Alain Locke defines the New Negro as an
outspoken advocacy of dignity and refusal to the law of Jim Crow racial segregation. Locke
popularized this term during the Harlem Renaissance. Leaders of the past and many people today
object the term because of its long history of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Senator John C. Calhoun sees the positives of slavery, I believe when two races come together which
have different origins, colors, and physical and intellectual characteristics, that slavery is, instead of an
evil, a good, a positive good. I believe that Senator Calhoun is referring to the diversity of United
States, where multiples races get together and share their unique backgrounds. I agree with this
statement because diversity is a huge part of United States and without it, I believe the country wouldn
t be as successful as it is today. Dr. Martin Luther King states, Anyone who lives in the United States
can never be considered an outsider anywhere in this country. He has a similar opinion as Senator
Calhoun. Both leaders believe that U.S. should welcome any race with equality and should be
considered officially a part of

Why Are Immigrants Taking American Jobs
Are Immigrants Really Taking American Jobs? I personally don t think Immigrants are taking
American jobs because if Americans really wanted the jobs immigrants have, they would ve tried to
fight over their rights a long time ago. It s been put out a lot of times that immigrants take American
jobs, but no one really cares because the jobs immigrants have nobody would want. Immigrants didn t
come to the U.S. to intentionally take jobs from Americans, they come here to make a better life for
them and their family. If 20% growth in immigration were to happen over the next decade, it would
affect the domestic economy and our job by having more people wanting

Visual Perception Of Visual Processing
Abstract
The use of visual perception is very important in our everyday lives. Male and female undergraduates
at the University of New Orleans were tested in their abilities to distinguish the differences in 3
minutes within an allotted time. We found that gender difference sin the task were of low significance.
Gender Differences in Visual Perception: A Spot the Difference Task The use of visual perception
processing comes in to play in various concepts of everyday living. We use our visual processing
skills to gather information about the environment and integrate that information into what we have
already acquired. In concordance to the various learning processes, without the use of visual
processing, we would not be able to learn several processes that are used with vision. For instance,
reading, writing, driving, good eye hand coordination all require the use of our visual fields to learn
how to do these things. Much research has been done on the use of the visual fields in various tasks
and studies. In various studies, researchers have looked at lexical problems in the visual field, spot
change differences in the visual field and change detection abilities in relation to visual perception.
Though the spot the difference task is a great study to look at in relation to visual perception, very
little research has been done on the task and its relation to vision. Similar to the current study,
researchers (Reis, Fallon, and Waite) conducted an

What Is Australian Egalitarianism
Egalitarianism? What is it?
Egalitarianism is basically the same thing as equality...right? While egalitarianism is the belief that all
people deserve equal rights and opportunities, equality is the state of being equal, in particular, status,
rights and opportunities. So yeah, pretty much the same thing.
Australia s egalitarian views started when it was just a penal colony, when the convicts were deprived
of their human rights and opportunities because they were criminals. The deprivations, led the
convicts to start believing in the equality of humanity. The fact that they knew they were inferior to
their superiors, resulted in egalitarianism to become one of the most valued values in Australia.
These values carried on to the 1800 s when ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We ve taken away their right to their land which has driven their communities farther away from
needed services. Making it harder for them to live, since there are only limited amounts of resources
and services that are available for them. There is so much information in the media these days about
how the mortality rates of these communities are dropping. Over the years however, the recognition of
the Indigenous society has improved, a good example of which is the introduction of NITV.
Simplicity of accepting different ethnicity
Accepting different ethnicities in Australia is definitely a work in progress. When our mate Malcolm
Fraser opened the gates to immigrants in the 1970 s, it was viewed negatively by a large part of the
Australian, a view that still lingers in certain pockets of Australia s population.
Unless were are Indigenous Australians, aren t we all migrants? Why the negative views on Australia s
immigrants? The convicts were not discriminated upon when they first landed on Australian shores, so
why are the immigrants discriminated

Summary Of The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell
Inside The Evidence On The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell discuss different concepts that
explain the sudden spread of a product or idea. Gladwell explains that this sudden and instantaneous
spread is very similar to an epidemic. Gladwell uses the examples of fashion trends, the success of a
book, the decrease of crime in New York City, smoking and the increase of suicide rate. To explain the
three rules of the Tipping Point, the law of the few, the stickiness factor and the power of context (29)
influence how a trend, product or action takes off as an epidemic. In the power of context Gladwell
introduces a different way of being a connector. That one person can connect to many groups (173)
and that small groups have the potential ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Gladwell presents us with many examples of real life situations when his idea of word of mouth
comes out to be true. In the majority of the examples and proves Gladwell shows in this chapter
heavily appeal to logos and ethos. Gladwell supports his argument with past historical events and also
with scientific studies. Not everyone will enjoy reading this type of approach Gladwell decided to use
for his argument. But it just simply gives more credibility to his argument. The rise of the Methodist
church is a better evidence to support one of Gladwell s main idea which is the stickiness factor rather
than using the rise to popularity of the Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood . Although, the Ya Ya
Sisterhood reached success due to the word of mouth and caused some stickiness, still not everyone is
aware of its success. There is a greater percentage of people who are part of the Methodist church and
live according to the ideology taught by its founder John Wesley (172). According to Gladwell the
Methodist movement went from 20,000 to 90,000 followers in a space of five years. Also the fact that
after centuries the Methodist church is still relevant until this day and it is a better example to prove
the idea of the stickiness factor or the word of mouth but it also gives a perspective of how long
something can stick

A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No 95 With Beethoven s...
A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5
Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was
before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by
comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in
C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander
both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds
swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic symphony
that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This paper will
analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies,
orchestral sound and overall mood and effect.
1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with an
exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening
movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than
life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s first
movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does not
introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from Haydn, in
the first

The Aspects Of My Future Life Goals In My Life
How you ever sat down and just put any thought into what are some things you wish you could
change? Or what changes you can do in the future to get to where you want to be? I m sure you have,
and I m sure you have had regrets. I know I have, and here are some things I wish I could change and
some of my future life goals both career and educational.
One thing I wish I could change was the day I broke my mom s heart. I was still in high school, when
I decided I should move out and live with my brother. My mom and I have never really had a great
relationship with each other. With me always lying to her about where I was, who I was with, and
what I was going to do. It was always constant arguing and disagreeing on everything. One day, we
just really got into it and she told me my roof, my rules so that is when I told myself, Yup, I need to
just pack my bags and leave tonight, that will fix everything. and without thinking that s what I did. I
waited until my mom and dad went to sleep and just left without them hearing. I had left a note and
told my mom I was leaving the house because I was tired of her, her rules, and our relationship. That
next morning my mom called me and sounded really upset and hurt. Making me start feeling bad and
having regrets. After having time to think, I realized I am just a brat, and take everything for granted. I
realized my mom is the way she is with me, because she just really cares about me. I realized I needed
to be thankful and take

  • 2. The Impact of Gambling in America The Impact of Gambling in America The impact of gambling on the United States carries both positive and negative effects into our society and communities. Gambling is a leisure activity that usually provides excitement and fun for its players. Gambling also brings tremendous amounts of money into the economy and provides employment. American cities such as Las Vegas and Atlantic City thrive off of the gaming industry. Sure, gambling can be fun and exciting, but at what point does that fun activity develop into a pathological problem? I will contend that the harmful side effects of gambling far outweigh any positive aspects. Pathological gambling can destroy families, careers, and lives. The reason why casinos are so successful ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in 1998 the bankruptcy rate in Atlantic City, New Jersey per 100,000 people was 1,019 while the rate of the state of New Jersey was only 555 (gao.gov). In 2003, there was a proposal to add casinos into the mix of Kentucky s gambling options. Dr. John Kindt, a professor of commerce at the University of Illinois said that bringing casinos to Kentucky would be bad economics and bad social policy . Studies show that within the 35 mile feeder market around a casino, gamblers will spend 10 percent less on food, 25 percent less on clothing and that 37 percent will dip into their savings to pay for gambling. For every three (video slot) machines, you ll be losing two jobs from the feeder market economy, Kindt said. This occurs because each machine can be expected to bring in $100,000 per year that will not be used elsewhere in the economy (kybaptist.org). This is a serious issue that occurs when business owners do not think about how their actions will affect others in the future. Not only does gambling affect the economy of our communities, but it also has social effects. There are many negative consequences of gambling, while there are minimal positive outcomes. Beginning with the positive side, gambling is a recreation, a break from the everyday pressures of life and a relief from stress. People feel good about themselves when they do hit a jackpot or win big . Without gambling, certain sports such as horse racing and boxing would not be nearly as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The population, sample and procedure will be covered in the following sections. Sample The population will be gathered from all adolescent girls ages 5 15 in Lubbock, TX. Given that children develop a self concept at the age of 6, 120 African American female children ages 6 8 will be invited to participate in the study from North, South, East and West Lubbock. This is the equivalence to a child s first, second and third grade level. Prior to any participant recruitment or data collection, all procedures will be approved by the school district and written parental consent will be obtained for each participating girl. Verbal consent will be obtained from each girl prior to each session where they will be told they can leave at any time if they wish to do so. Sampling Technique Probability sampling was chosen to generalize the results of the study to the population and investigate the relationships between Barbie dolls and the development in racial identity and self concept. A qualified sample was utilized to control who can participate in the study. The sampling method best suited to gather the participants is stratified sampling to get an adequate representation of the population. The characteristics of the segments included age, gender, ethnicity and zip code. In each year group, one third of the girls will be placed in different experimental conditions: traditional Caucasian Barbie doll, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. What Features Of American Society Seem Most For Trouble... 1. What features of American society seem most to trouble the authors of the Port Huron Statement? When writing the Port Huron Statement, its authors explicitly mentioned two key features of American society that they found troubling. First, they considered the presence of racism and overall bigotry in the American South as ...the permeating and victimizing fact of human degradation (Foner 283). The authors acknowledged the presence of practices that essentially dehumanized African Americans in the South, claiming that its existence is what ...compelled most of us from silence to activism (Foner 283). In addition to this, the authors of the Port Huron Statement were also troubled by the existence of the atom bomb and the possibility that an all out nuclear war could break out at any given moment. It is stated that the presence of the bomb brought awareness that ...we ourselves, and our friends, and millions of abstract others...might die at any time (Foner 283). While contemplating the aforementioned problems in American society, the authors of the Port Huron Statement also began to rethink the American ideal that all men are created equal , finding paradoxes between the claim and what was really occurring in American society. They stated that the declaration ...rang hollow before the facts of Negro life in the South (Foner 283) and was contradicted by the United States ...economic and military investments in the Cold War status quo (Foner 283). The researcher observed that, in college life many students are being bullied if they don t have any partners and if they don t experience sex, that s why many students are very eager in finding a partner to experience what they really want and how these things will work. According to Simporios (2011), cohabitation s great contribution to moral decadence has been a great concern of many people. The continuous practice of this kind of relationship is quite alarming to society s moral bearing. The presence of this very rampant situation in a state university would agitate a curiosity. This paper aims to describe and explore the students practicing cohabitation, their reasons, the acceptability, and the outcome of this type of relationship. • 6. Song Analysis Of ILl Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You I ll Be Missing You is a rap ballad by Puff Daddy and Faith Evans featuring R B group 112. This song was written in memory of renowned rap artist Christopher Wallace who many may also know him as Biggie Smalls, Big papa, or The Notorious B.I.G. He was gunned down and murdered in Los Angles in March of 1997. Almost immediately following his death, Puff Daddy and Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, team up to say their farewells. What started out as a tribute to Wallace, ended up having a much bigger impact on the world than expected. On March 9, 1997, Christopher Wallace s life was cut short at the age of twenty four in a drive by shooting in Los Angles. Wallace was a close friend to Puff Daddy and husband to Faith Evans. Distraught by Wallace s death, they wanted to perform a song in memory of him and also to help gain closure for their selves. Within the past decade, Hip Hop has become increasingly sought after both in popular music and in a genre of its own. When Puff Daddy released the song it went above both the genres of rock and hip hop. The song, I ll Be Missing You , features leading vocals from Wallace s widowed wife, Faith Evans, and background vocals from the famous R B group, 112. Wallace and Evans did not write the song, I ll Be Missing You was actually written by multiple people. He took the lyrics from a Brooklyn rapper Todd Sauce Money Gaither. • 7. Analysis Of Victor Frankenstein The Real Monster Who s the Real Monster? The story of Frankenstein was written by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley in the year 1818. The story depicts the life of the character Victor Frankenstein, who spends years creating an unnamed creature. Victor abandons the creature the moment he awakens and the creature is then left to live life on his own because is rejected by humanity. The creature kills several people and eventually leads to Victor s indirect death. Throughout the story, the creature is depicted as a hideous, monstrous and evil creature, while Victor is depicted as the victim of his wrath. At first glance, the creature seems like the bigger monster of the story, but as we begin to view it from a deeper perspective we discover a different side. In this essay, I plan to argue that contrary to popular belief, Victor Frankenstein is the real monster of the story. The Oxford Dictionary defines the word monster as an An inhumanly cruel or wicked person. There were many cruel and wicked things that Victor did to the creature. Firstly, Victor decided to give the creature a hideous body. Why would he not create his specimen to be beautiful and well formed in every way? It was cruelty on the behalf of Victor to hideously deform his creation. He made his creature to be a hideously deformed monster which every human being shunned. Throughout the story Victor also considers himself to have a God Complex. Victor would be considered to have a God Complex because he firmly believed that he has the ... The two positions is the Reductionist Position and the Holist Position. The Reductionist Position states that the whole is the sum of its parts and the Holist Position states that the whole is greater than or different from the sum of its parts. In the example of the basketball blunder the whole is represented as the total average and the parts is represented by the individual average of the 2 point and 3 point shots of Jordan and Chamberlain. The Effects of Grazing and Trampling Behaviors of Large Sized Livestock on the Formation and Weathering Patterns of Soils Introduction Walter Coppinger, a Professor of Geosciences at Trinity College in San Antonio and long time observer of Montana geology, was the first person to describe to me the many problems of the western rangelands that have developed out of the over grazing of cattle. From a hilltop among the upland slopes of Whitehall, Montana, he pointed out a few patches of bare earth on the horizon and some gullying out of trails across the rangelands in the distance. There are many different animal species that graze the rangelands of the world: bison in the grasslands of the Western United States, mountain goats in the Rocky Mountains, and herds of Caribou in Northwest Canada (Butler, 1995). In many cases, the actual effects that different animals have depends greatly on biological factors characteristic of their particular species, such as how large their populations tend to be, their average weight and how they distribute their weight when they walk or climb, feeding patterns, migration patterns, and other differences that depart too far from the focus of this essay to be considered in any great detail. For the purposes of this paper, unless otherwise specified, I will be considering the effects of cows, bison, and other cattle like livestock animals that tend to have relatively similar physical characteristics. The degree to which an area has been grazed is often loosely categorized as an area of light, moderate, or heavy grazing, with light indicating rangelands with the greatest surface area and fewest animals and heavy indicating smaller areas for larger populations. Again, these general terms may depend on the particular species being considered. Trampling and grazing on one topography type will not necessarily have the same effect as it will have on another. The Perception That Our Capacity The perception that our capacity (as youths) to learn and our capacity to lead are mutually exclusive, and that to fulfill our potential to serve the country we must surrender our profound potential to leadership, that we can be the engine that drives innovation and solves complex societal problems but our capacity for leadership and wisdom is somehow limited is a false and suffocating judgment. This ideology has destroyed the youths ability to be present in our nation s leadership. The youths present a passionate and obscure hunger for success An unshakable will for prosperity. It is the responsibility of the society to capture this youthful enthusiasm for leadership before they lose it to rioting confusion of life the blot and blur of years. For age brings with it a strangeness of destiny that stabs the red waste of youthfulness with fear. A leader that spends five years in office and has no thing to show for it at the end of the day is strange enough, but the voters who vote for such a leader once again are touched by the dark miracle of folly. If, in contrast, the voters change their view not simply looking out for the best candidate but embracing them outright then the balance between the competing political forces that has so long favored the incompetent leader will tilt away from him. And if this balance tilts away from incompetent leadership, especially in Africa, it would result in the development of a peaceful, democratic and prosperous society. ... Chances are you know somebody who has dealt with this issue (Kessler, etc., 2005) because it causes one third of the population to experience distress or disability. It can affect quality of life by generating fear of social situations and resulting in social withdrawal. One of the most central aspects of human life is having close relationships particularly romantic relationships. Social anxiety is associated with difficulty forming and maintaining close relationships (Lampe, etc., 2003). Overcoming the Barriers At a glance, the research may seem to paint a bleak picture, but there is reason for optimism. Firstly, not all socially anxious individuals have difficulties in their romantic relationships. Secondly, the better that relationship scientists and clinical psychologists understand these phenomena, the clearer the solutions can become; indeed, some are already becoming visible for those who experience difficulty. A big part of the way social anxiety affects the quality of relationships appears to be related to trust and support. This gives us a good place to start when we re trying to improve our relationships (Simpson, 2007). The low levels of trust of socially anxious individuals are linked to the symptoms and cognitive effects of the disorder itself: Other people are often viewed as overly critical or even hostile, regardless of any evidence. How much we can trust others depends on how much we can view them as having our best interests at heart (Simpson, etc., 2007). To combat this and view a romantic partner as trustworthy, couples need to work together. The way social anxiety affects perceived support is somewhat complex. Socially anxious people seem to have trouble noticing the support their romantic partners provide. This comes back to the fact that social anxiety makes it very difficult to view others as benevolent or as having good intentions (Simpson, 2007). It creates a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Beauty explained the mask to be too perfect for human nature and could barely fit the Beast face. Poor relationship with her father, the heroine here has more pride and anger than Beauty. Like the other female protagonists, this heroine is initially treated as an object to be manipulated and gambled away. The Beast in this version is associated with a tiger, a reminder of the heroine s mother in The Bloody Chamber. He also lives on a threshold between the worlds of wild animals and humans. The heroine s longing for the wild innocence of horses prefigures her later transformation. The symbol of the rose begins to grow more complex here. It is not just a symbol of the heroine s purity and virginity, as it also has thorns showing the pain of her objectification, but also her own fierceness and pride. Carter muses on the nature of her beasts, how there is a horror in living life on the threshold, but also that there is a kind of beastliness that is internal as well as external. This is another picture of decaying luxury, but the state of The Beast s mansion implies that he has let his wild animal nature take over, and he has little care for keeping up the appearances of a nobleman. Although she went through some rough times, she always expressed her thoughts with her writing. A lot of the foreshadowing Elizabeth shows throughout the short story is that Mrs. Drover feels a bad presence with her while she is getting things that she needed (British Literature 171). The flashback Shown in The Demon Lover is when she has the memory of meeting the soldier and agreeing to marry him and giving a hint that Mrs. Drover thinks the letter came from him. She also explains a flashback by how the soldier would treat her showing that she might had made a promise to him that she didn t keep (British Literature 171). As to how the letter arrived to the house, who sent the letter, what promise Mrs.Drover made to her soldier fiance, and the ending of the story all bring a thought of mystery when reading it. The promise that Mrs. Drover could have made to the soldier could have been to always be true to him and not marry or that she would die if he died. Graham s contributions to dance has often been compared to Picasso s contributions to art and Stravinsky s to music; in my opinion she opened up many new opportunities and possibilities for dance including the ability to learn free expression and honesty through movement. Martha Graham was born on May the 11th, 1894, in the suburb of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Martha was one of George and Jane Beers Graham s three daughters. Modern dance is freeness and the ability to express joy, sadness, and determinedness and without Martha Graham s influence on the art of dance, modern dance simply wouldn t be the same as it is today. Graham also introduced the use of moving scenery, the use of props as symbols and dance that was combined with speech. These were all large changes and opened more possibilities and experiences to the world of dance. Graham also got rid of the classic ballet folk dress and instead often chose a classy straight black dress for her movement pieces. Some of Graham s key works included her leading role performance in Igor Stravinsky s American premier of Rite of Spring (1930). Graham also toured America in her role in the production of Electra for four years. During the tour, Graham began to show interest in the American Indians of the South West. It was this ... The hall of mirrors shows how lost and confused Earl still is. Earl would make jokes that are sly remarks aimed at no one but himself. An example of this is, CIGARETTE? CHECK FOR LIT ONES FIRST, STUPID. Earl laughs at the sign, lights his cigarette, and takes a long draw (p.86). He also titles himself The ten minute man . Hope is a feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen. Literature can help us define the greater good by creating stories that relate, set examples and show how us as a person can make big differences in other people s life too. Throughout history there has been many examples of people who had created a major change to our historical timeline. His parents were great examples for them fighting at the time where the attack of polish took place. Just a short period of time after that world war 2 broke out. These sleeping cars accommodated passengers by allowing them to relax during times of travel. Even though sleeping cars were advanced and innovative, they played a role in both the rise and fall of George Pullman. Born March 3, 1831, George Pullman became the third child, and third son, of James and Emily Pullman. He had nine brothers and sister; however, many of them died during infancy (CITATION HERE). We found that gender difference sin the task were of low significance. Gender Differences in Visual Perception: A Spot the Difference Task The use of visual perception processing comes in to play in various concepts of everyday living. We use our visual processing skills to gather information about the environment and integrate that information into what we have already acquired. In concordance to the various learning processes, without the use of visual processing, we would not be able to learn several processes that are used with vision. For instance, reading, writing, driving, good eye hand coordination all require the use of our visual fields to learn how to do these things. Much research has been done on the use of the visual fields in various tasks and studies. In various studies, researchers have looked at lexical problems in the visual field, spot change differences in the visual field and change detection abilities in relation to visual perception. Though the spot the difference task is a great study to look at in relation to visual perception, very little research has been done on the task and its relation to vision. While egalitarianism is the belief that all people deserve equal rights and opportunities, equality is the state of being equal, in particular, status, rights and opportunities. So yeah, pretty much the same thing. Australia s egalitarian views started when it was just a penal colony, when the convicts were deprived of their human rights and opportunities because they were criminals. The deprivations, led the convicts to start believing in the equality of humanity. The fact that they knew they were inferior to their superiors, resulted in egalitarianism to become one of the most valued values in Australia. These values carried on to the 1800 s when ... • 48. Summary Of The Tipping Point By Malcolm Gladwell Inside The Evidence On The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell discuss different concepts that explain the sudden spread of a product or idea. Gladwell explains that this sudden and instantaneous spread is very similar to an epidemic. Gladwell uses the examples of fashion trends, the success of a book, the decrease of crime in New York City, smoking and the increase of suicide rate. To explain the three rules of the Tipping Point, the law of the few, the stickiness factor and the power of context (29) influence how a trend, product or action takes off as an epidemic. In the power of context Gladwell introduces a different way of being a connector. That one person can connect to many groups (173) and that small groups have the potential ... Gladwell supports his argument with past historical events and also with scientific studies. Not everyone will enjoy reading this type of approach Gladwell decided to use for his argument. But it just simply gives more credibility to his argument. The rise of the Methodist church is a better evidence to support one of Gladwell s main idea which is the stickiness factor rather than using the rise to popularity of the Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood . Although, the Ya Ya Sisterhood reached success due to the word of mouth and caused some stickiness, still not everyone is aware of its success. There is a greater percentage of people who are part of the Methodist church and live according to the ideology taught by its founder John Wesley (172). According to Gladwell the Methodist movement went from 20,000 to 90,000 followers in a space of five years. • 50. A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No 95 With Beethoven s... A Comparison of Haydn s Symphony No. 95 with Beethoven s Symphony No. 5 Introduction As noted by Robert Hughes, Beethoven was not only the embodiment of all that was before him, but also of that which was yet to come (Hughes 486). The truth of this may be seen by comparing Beethoven s 5th Symphony in C Minor to Haydn, the father of Symphony, and his 95th in C Minor. While Haydn s symphony is both playful and dramatic, Beethoven s symphony is grander both in terms of scale and vision. He expands the size of the orchestra to incorporate the sounds swirling around, underlying, and depicting the arrival of Fate in a rhythm driven, thematic symphony that takes Haydn s form and runs with it as though to the top of a mountain peak. This paper will analyze the symphonies by movement, according to form, size, structure, tonalities, melodies, orchestral sound and overall mood and effect. 1st Movement Both Haydn s and Beethoven s first movements are composed in sonata form, with an exposition stated in the opening that is then developed and recapitulated. The size of Haydn s opening movement is somewhat smaller than Beethoven s, whose opening exposition itself seems larger than life. Haydn s first movement is roughly six minutes long, and the length of Beethoven s first movement only exceeds Haydn s by about a minute and a half to two minutes. Beethoven does not introduce too many structural changes to the traditional sonata form, which he learned from Haydn, in the first ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

I waited until my mom and dad went to sleep and just left without them hearing. I had left a note and told my mom I was leaving the house because I was tired of her, her rules, and our relationship. That next morning my mom called me and sounded really upset and hurt. Making me start feeling bad and having regrets.
