Road Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis
The book The Road Cormac McCarthy creates a darkened mood when he puts this son and father into
a destroyed world. McCarthy created this concept of a world to intensify the meaning of the piece all
together. This darkness in the world creates to fear and the isolation for characters to realize that this is
how life is from now on. The son in this novel comes to the realization of the world due to certain
events within the novel that manipulation the view the son has on the world. An important flaw the
son has is that he does not remember the world as a peaceful place the son only remembers the world
destroyed. This type of naivetes gives the boy a minimal outlook on the past and see the difference of
the present. The father knows the difference which gives the father the realization before The Road
begins. The son in portions of The Road is starving, this desolate place called the world does not give
any chance of hope or second ones. The importance of this geographical state in the book makes the
father and son rely on one another because they know the very importance of staying alive, and the
only way they can do that is to fight for one another. The Road opens with a setting of desolation,
When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he d reach out to touch the child
sleeping beside him , which creates a concern within the readers that are realizing the magnitude of
this horrible place. (McCarthy 3) The son in the first page of the book is mentioned

American Society s Attitudes Toward Immigrants
New Year s, Istanbul. 39 dead. Suspect yet to be found. Devastating headlines like these have become
common in the years following September 11, 2001, and in the wake of the war on terrorism, there has
emerged a less vocal war; the war on immigrants. So in a time and age where terrorism is not
something unknown but rather sadly familiar, we must ask ourselves to what extent fear from
terrorists attacks impact the American Society s views towards immigrants. Terrorist attacks have
deeply resonated in the minds and hearts of many Americans, leading them to develop unfair and
irrational views towards immigrants, the scapegoats of all the pain and anger attacks have caused.
Through a social perspective, it can be seen that through xenophobia, racism, stereotypes, prejudice
and the theory of a folk devil, Americans denounce those not similar to them. ... Show more content

Main Differences Between The Manufacturing Sector And The...
In the business world, there are two major sectors; the manufacturing sector and the service sector.
While they both deeply affect a society s standard of living, there are five main differences between
the two. According to The Business Dictionary,
(http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/manufacturing sector.html), the definition of
manufacturing sector are industries that are involved in chemical, mechanical or physical conversion
of substances, ingredients, or components into consumer or industrial goods. The service sector any
job or industry that produces intangible value or goods. The five main differences between service and

However, a manufacturing firm does not need to employ many people because most manufacturing
organizations can automate their production processes to reduce their labor requirements. The fifth
mentioned difference is location, service firms do not require a physical production site allowing them
to be located anywhere, an example would be Amazon, which spent most of it s forming years without
a standing office due to their ability to operate solely through the internet. Manufacturers on the other
hand must have a physical location for the production and stock holding operations. These differences
create a difference in their respective accounting books as based on reviewing different companies in
both sectors, companies in the manufacturing sector usually had much larger assets and overall higher
numbers in the four major financial statements. Reviewing specifically the cases of Wal Mart and
Marriott International, the international hotel chain, the tables below provide the differences between
the accounting practices and trends of the two sectors. Values in

Chicago Defender Argumentative Essay
Housing and racial discrimination of the 1950 s and 1960 s can not start without the discussion of the
great migration of African Americans. African Americans left the south and moved to the north to
large cities like Portland, Detroit, Seattle and topic at hand Chicago. In search of new lives and to
avoid tough segregation laws blacks flooded the Chicago area. According to online reports more than
6 million African Americans moved up north from 1916 to 1970. The mistreatment of the southerners
and segregation alone was a huge incentive for African Americans to leave the south. Blacks were

Ethics and the Pharmaceutical Industry
1. Introduction Over the past couple of decades, a sudden change has started to take over the way
business is done. The time when no rules applied, and anyone could do what they pleased at the cost
of others or the environment is rapidly ending. Instead, companies today have become aware that it is
essential for them to employ ethics and morality in their actions, if not they will be heavily scrutinized
and rejected by the public. This way of thinking also applies to the pharmaceutical industry, which
over the past century has been rapidly expanding. Do to the fact that this industry can determine the
health and lives of millions of people, it is imperative that this industry follow an ethical and moral
path. When talking about ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even though the pharmaceutical industry has made great improvements to human health and quality
of life, like creating drugs for the treatment of AIDS, cancer, and other diseases, an increasing tension
is growing between the public and the industry. These thoughts are fueled by issues such as drug
pricing, affordable health care, and the battle against epidemic diseases in third world countries; social
critics wonder whether this multi billion dollar industry is giving enough back to the community and
fulfilling its social responsibility. But the question still remains, how has ethics become involved in
the pharmaceutical Industry? To understand this better, I will briefly talk about the history of the
industry. In the late 19th and early 20th century key discoveries, such as insulin and penicillin, were
made. These medicines were needed in large quantities, and thus allowed major companies that we
know today to begin the mass manufacture and distribution of these. In order to test and approve drugs
and to require appropriate labeling legislation was enacted. As the pharmaceutical industry grew,
prescription and nonprescription drugs became legally distinguished from one another. From the 1950
s on, numerous new drugs were developed and mass produced, including the first oral contraceptive,
Cortisone, blood pressure drugs, etc. In 1960 Valium

The Political Regime Of A Country
There is a general consensus emerges that formal institution is the main variable in shaping the
political regime of a country (Tsebelis, 1995; Helmke and Levitsky, 2004). However, there are several
conditions should be examined in order to ensure the logical flow of the relationship. Institution is
matter but it also depends on the other conditions (Przeworski, 2004). This paper review some articles
in institutions, why there is a different opinion regarding the institutions and revisit Ramseyer and
Rosenbluth s book in order to gain more understanding about the political institution theory.

described by negotiation democracy . In his concluding remark, Przeworski (2004) argued that history
shapes the institution to be better, so he believed that institutions depend on the conditions under
which they established and sustain, his argument is supported by Thelen, who proposes the historical
institutionalism analysis in examining the effect of institution to the outcome. According to Thelen
(1999), institution can be both endogenous and exogenous variables and it depends on the literature
that we applied to generate the hypothesis. Institution is independent variable when we apply the
rational choice institutionalism. A group of researchers who work based on the rational choice
institutionalism tend to find the generalization across time and countries, offer deductive method and
focus on behavior of people (Thelen, 1999). On the other hand, researchers who work based on the
historical institutionalism believe that the institution s experience in solving the public s problems is a
key concept to understand the

The King s Character in a Cinematic Production of...
Although labeled as a history, the strength of Shakespeare s Henry V lies not in the events that occur
in the play, but in the delicate portrayal of the characters involved. Shakespeare s audience would have
already known the story of Henry V s campaign on France and thus would have had no reason to
watch a play that simply re enacted past events. Therefore, the appeal of such a play, as well as the
themes and the content, would have been dependent largely on the characters themselves.
It is obvious that the most prominent character is the man whose name the play carries Henry V. The
entire story centers on his deeds. He serves as the catalyst for the action, the driving force behind all
that takes place. Without him there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The subtleties of such ambiguities make any direction a complex task as one tries to reconcile
conflicting viewpoints. In doing so, there are two widely respected cinematic versions of Henry V that
may be considered: Laurence Olivier s 1944 production and Kenneth Branagh s 1989 version.
Olivier s version is pure patriotism, while Branagh s is grittier and much darker. Olivier s is more
stylized and innocent, giving it a more chivalric and fairy tale atmosphere. Branagh s, on the other
hand, is more realistic in its portrayal of Henry s invasion of France. However, as Shaw points out, in
each case the king emerges as the hero through cinematic and textual editing decisions. The most
glaring omission common to both is Henry s order to kill the French prisoners taken at the Battle of
Agincourt. This scene is omitted because it is one of those textual ambiguities that may leave an
audience of the original play uncertain as to the quality of man that the Henry is. This would have
been in opposition to both Branagh and Olivier s heroic depictions.
This would not, however, be the route chosen for this production. Henry V, as Norman Rabkin
describes it in Shakespeare and the Problem of Meaning, is a work whose ultimate power is precisely
the fact that it points in two opposite directions, virtually daring us to choose

Nature Vs. Nurture Discussion
Millions of children start new lives every day. The process of their development has always been of
question to us; we are completely unaware of the exact processes that they go through. Human
psychologist continue to ponder the dispute of whether the factors that structure a human are
biological or circumstantial. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus
nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly
analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to
nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create
the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue
eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that
contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the
environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of
personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events
differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or
register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the
hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again.

Topic: Finance and Funding Executive Summary
In the modern era, travel and tourism industries seem to go beyond the mere need of attracting sizable
visitors by incorporating macroeconomic and non customary variables to earn monetary and non
monetary benefits. Cost is an important aspect of growth and profitability in an organization.
Organizations lose money because of heavy costs and they require decreasing the cost for better
profits. Sale and cost has direct relation because as the sales volume increases, total cost of the entire
production also increases. However, at the same time, as the quantity of sales increases, cost of
production decreases so as to achieve economies of scale. In addition, the assignment elaborated three
key pricing strategies including rack rate, seasonal pricing and Last minute pricing that seemed
appropriate for WHG. Moreover, management accounting information is a process through which an
organization forecasts to improve business decision making. Management accounting information
helps to advice the business ways of moving forward, for example, whether an organization should
buy a new plant or land or invest in company stocks.

Why Rumor Is Defined By The New York Stock Exchange
Rumor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an unverified or unconfirmed statement or
report circulating in a community. In the financial community, rumors have an effect on the direction
of markets. The New York Stock Exchange in the United States is the epitome of how rumors can
impact trade. The fluctuation of stock and commodity (raw material) prices on a daily basis is, in part,
due to the daily news cycle. Although reports by news companies are supposed to be factual,
statements made can be unverified. Because of the large scale of social media, anyone can make up
rumors that can go viral. Stock traders rely on the news to determine what stocks they will buy or sell.
News reports include important information such as: new product developments, company
restructures, commodity reports, and scandals. Because of the rapid news, trading on the stock market
happens very fast and it gets chaotic. As the buyers and sellers interact their process sets the stock
price. The news effects the stock price because if a positive story circulates, there will be more buyers
for a stock, which will raise the stock price; if a negative story circulates, there will be fewer buyers,
which will lower the stock price. This constant process can either earn a big payday or be a total loss.
Because of the money that people stand to either make or loose, rumors have an effect on the way
individuals behave on the stock market.
To better understand how rumors work within the financial

Hormone Affects The Body
To determine which hormone is the most important for normal body functioning, we first need to
understand how each hormone affects the body.
Aldosterone Is produced in the cortex of the adrenal glands. Aldosterone affects the body s ability to
regulate blood pressure. This hormone sends signals to organs that increase the amount of sodium the
body sends into the bloodstream or the amount of potassium released in the urine. This hormone can
increase blood volume by causing the bloodstream to reabsorb water with the sodium. Indirectly this
hormone also helps maintain the blood s pH and electrolyte levels (Huether McCance, 2017, p.455

Laocoon’s Children and the Limits of Representation Essay...
In modern society, both the abstract and concrete representations of children are intertwined with the
themes associated with happiness, innocence, ignorance, gullibility, and the allure of youth. But, if I
may for a moment mimic Caroline Vout s presentation of her arguments by asking, how does today s
current view of children differ from the non linguistic representations of children in ancient times? If
one was to rewind time while focusing solely on the exemplification of children in ancient Greek and
Rome, they would discover that presumably there is a degradation of the importance of the child in
society. The previously mentioned Caroline Vout supplies the fact that the great philosopher Aristotle

With respect to the first sub category that is listed, the sculpture of the struggle of Laocoon and his
Sons is used to underscore the ideals connected with children. It is in the sculpture that we see
Laocoon s son s depicted as man children ; for their muscled bodies, short hair, and matured faces give
the impression that they are more adult than youth. However, their innocence and age is reflected in
their marginal positions and their diminutive sizes when contrasted to their father. To emphasize the
multiple versions of children, Vout incorporates the sculpture Hercules Strangling Snakes, which
associates children with strength and the reverse of that sculpture, Statuette of a Seated Girl, expresses
the innocence and youth found in children. Concerning the interaction of the viewer with the role of
children in Hellenistic art, Vout emphasizes that the significant presence of a child in pieces like,
Laocoon and his Sons, are important because they encourage viewers to connect with the masterpiece
in a different way. Now, staying within that realm of thinking, one is directed to the question: How
central are the representations of Laocoon s children to the melodramatic composition? This question
may be answered if one examines the impact of their inclusion and then infer the impact of their
hypothetical exclusion. Pertaining to the inclusion of Laocoon s children in the artwork as a

The Queensland Police Service ( Gre ) Incident Command...
The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in
2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident or
event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The QPS
ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach to
incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section 1.12
of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). The QPS ICS takes a formal approach by
gathering intelligence, planning a response and deploying the available resources to achieve a specific
result (QPS2013a).
The QPS ICS model is based on five interlocking functional roles. These roles are Command,
Operations, Planning, Intelligence and Administration and Logistics. Depending on the size and nature
of the incident the five roles can be carried out by a single officer or an incident management team
with a Police Forward Commander (PFC) who will have overall supervision. (QPS2013a). The
Command role will be undertaken by the first officer attending the incident who will assume the role
of Police Forward Commander (PFC) (OPM 1.12.3) who will remain in this role until the incident is
resolved or command responsibility is transferred, usually to a more senior officer (QPS2013a). The

Beowulf And The Epic s Christian Identity
Beowulf and the Epic s Christian Identity
Composed in early eighth century by an unknown author the epic poem Beowulf, follows the exploits
of the protagonist of the same name. Originally composed orally by a tribe s scop, the epic of Beowulf
delivers insight on the lives and adventures of characters that lived in the sixth century. Although, the
tale of Beowulf was formulated during post Roman collapse by presumably pagan people; written
around seven hundred A.D., it is probable that a Christian monk transcribed the grand narrative
implanting Christian motifs and ideals into pagan Scandinavian culture. Therefore, the result of this
concoction is a blended storyline infused with religious imagery and allusion along with traditional
Nordic beliefs of war and honor. The tale, and arguably, the tragedy of Beowulf illustrate the conflict
between the Pagan elements and Christian tenets, as aspects of both are present in the epic. The
underlying Christian and Pagan values in Beowulf illustrate the iniquity of mankind and its eventual
downfall through allusion to god, symbolism, and vices and virtues of warrior man.
Firstly, Hrothgar s monologue foreshadows the climax and tragedy of man; moreover, Hrothgar s
speech illuminates the end of both warrior and king. For example, after the battle in which Grendel is
defeated, Hrothgar say, First and foremost, let the Almighty father be thanked for this sight. I suffered

already mention, she divides the picture in two. Her right represents Mexico and it has lots of

how they believe that the opposites like man and women, life and death, define life. (PBS.org.). The
Pre Columbian temple represents the rejection that she has to European traditions. She also has two

dolls to represent how she feels because she can t have babies. She also has a Skulls that represents

in the edge of death . I also think that she paint the skull because sometimes she wants to be death. She
was obsessed with her husband Diego Rivera but he didn t respect her feelings and he cheat her

Problems And Opportunities Of A Free Market Economy Essay
Introduction
To do business in Portugal, there are a few things that you need to know first; you need to know the
political, economic, environmental, and trade environments, challenges and opportunities of doing
business in Portugal, and other general information. It is important to know that there is approximately
10,348,650 people according to the World Bank, and that their official language is Portuguese.
Overall, to be successful in this country, you will need to understand its culture and language.
Background
Political Situation Portugal has been classified as a democratic republic since 1974 when they first
adopted their post revolutionary constitution. Their constitution has since been updated twice, most
recently in 1989, in order to pave the way for a free market economy (Livermore). Similar to the
United States, Portugal utilizes a three branch system; legislative, executive, and judiciary. Portugal
has both a president and a prime minister. The president is directly elected by the people, serves in five
year terms, and can serve a maximum of two terms. They are in charge of guaranteeing national unity
and independence. The president is both the chief of state and chief commander of Portugal s armed
forces. Additionally, the president appoints and dismisses various government positions, including the
prime minister, who is considered the head of the government (Livermore). The prime minister is
responsible to both the president and the Council of Ministers. The

Essay On Apology By Plato
The Apology by Plato provides a deep credible account of Socrates defending of himself against the
accusation of corrupting the young before the Athenian Council. Within the text, the words of Socrates
are delivered as they are remembered by Plato. It is important to note that previously Plato was both a
student and a disciple of Socrates, therefore his rendition of the trial could have been considerably
biased towards the man he viewed as a tremendous hero. Ultimately, Plato s account describes what he
holds to be true about his hero, even though Socrates teachings are somewhat idealized by his pupil.
There also may be a possibility that Socrates defense of himself may be stronger than the argument
that is originally perceived and understood.
The dialog consists of a number of different parts. Socrates begins with an introductory statement
which deals with his manner of speaking: One of the many lies they told, one in particular surprised
me, namely that you should be careful not to be deceived by an accomplished speaker like me . This
indicates the defensive tone of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Terrorist Groups and Impact Essay
Terrorist group and impact
Introduction
HAMAS (Harakat al Muqawamah al Islamiyya) is the Arabic word for Zeal and also known as
Islamic Resistance Movement. It is a notorious terrorist organization in the Middle East and George
Bush stated that Hamas is one of the deadliest terror organizations in the world today (Jensen, p.1,
2009).
Origins and sources
Hamas was formed in 1987 as the Muslim brotherhood (Ikhwan al Muslimin) in Palestinian by late
Ahmad Yassin, Abdel Aziz al Rantissi and Mohammad Taha. It is estimated that it has unknown
supporters and sympathizers but increasing to thousands (US department of state, 2005).

The group mainly operates in Palestine as well as in West Bank and Gaza strip. It has also presences in
Syria, Lebanon and Gulf States (Foreign Terrorist organizations, 2004). The Hamas annual budget is
estimated to be $70 million dollars with 50% of its funds comes from Saudi Arabia through Islamic
charity organizations. Iran also provides further $3 million dollars and support from Palestinian
expatriates and other Arab states (Wikipedia, 2010).
Ideology
The group principles introduced in 1988 in a form of charter based on Islamist document and
declaring Jihad (in the sense of armed battle) as the only solution against Israel (Midestweb, 2007).
The charter also cites The Protocols of the Elders of Zion which emphasizes on anti Semitic forgery.
The Hamas and Islamistradicalists see the Zionist and freemasons as the major calamites to the world
(Midestweb, 2007). As well as calling for all Muslims to return to the faith (Gruber, 2007).
Aims and objectives
The main goal for the group is to have an Islamic state by expelling the Jews in Israel/Palestine in
accordance with the Islamic law. In recent years the group has moderated its goals by indicating that it
would like a favorable Israel Palestine agreement (Foreign Terrorist organizations, 2004). However,
Hamas did state in the 2006 election manifesto that the continuance of the arm struggle against Israel
occupation of the Palestinian region (Wikipedia, 2010).
Prior to the election in 2006, Hamas

Aeneas And Jesus Analysis
Aeneas and Jesus: More Alike Than One Would Think
The Aeneid focuses on the founding of Rome by Aeneas, a pious Trojan who has escaped the falling
of Troy. Aeneas demonstrates pietas, the devotion to one s family, mission, and homeland. Like
Aeneas, Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew possesses pietas as he constantly shows dedication to his
people, fate, and country. Each fulfills his duties, whether it is through finding his people s new land
or spreading the word of his god. The cultures the authors lived in during the time the texts were
written shaped their literary figures beliefs and actions. Aeneas and Jesus both have variations of
pietas. Aeneas depicts the familial component of having pietas in a literal sense; he makes sure he
leaves none of his family behind as he escapes the destruction of his homeland. One example is when
he carries his father on his back out of the burning walls of their city, Troy (Aeneid, 51). When his
father is persistent that he cannot leave, Aeneas does not leave him behind, but ... Show more content

Like Aeneas, Jesus is the messiah of his people; he is the anointed one. This is shown when an angel
of the Lord says to Joseph, ...for he will save his people form their sins (Matthew 1:21). He protects
and loves the Judean people and honors the special covenant between them and God. Jesus saves the
people of Judea by his teachings. By spreading the word of God, he rescues them both spiritually and
physically. He heals the lame and blind, and interprets Judean law in the manner of what God deems a
perfect man should. Both Aeneas and Jesus lead their people from oppression and unblessed death;
Aeneas leads the remaining Trojans out of their burning city to avoid being violently murdered or
enslaved by Greek forces, and Jesus saves his people from political oppression by their non Judean
leaders by guiding them to a righteous

The Discovery Of Oil And Its Impact On The Environment
The discovery of oil has led to an abundance of new opportunities that have helped people create new
inventions with the biggest being the automobile. Major corporations have arisen from The impact of
oil derived, in large part, from its attractiveness as an energy dense, easily deliverable source of fuel
for transportation. Oil is sometimes coined the term black gold because of its value. Corporations like
Chevron have made billions of dollars in the oil industry. With the rise of oil, the destruction of the
environment has also become a serious issue in some parts of the world. Oil spills that have taken
place in the gulf and in the forests have had a huge impact on both the people and wildlife that have
lived around these affected areas. Black streaks of oil are seen in the sand in some beaches still to this
day and. But these are just some of the major environmental disasters oil companies like Chevron are
responsible for. Chevron has also made an impact on the environment around its refineries, and it is
not a positive impact. The waste that comes out of these refineries is dumped into the ocean, rivers,
and these toxic waste sites severely hurt the environment in the process. One of the biggest issue the
company faces, is with the country of Ecuador where a lawsuit was filed against Texaco, which was

Snow Falling On Cedars Analysis
Painfully Inaccurate
The (frustratingly) accurate answer to many questions is It depends. That is because he who is
answering the question does not want to be inaccurate by lumping together data, and this is a good
thing. The answer can always apply to questions about people. One cannot generalize about a group of
people and say that every Jewish person is a niggerly penny pincher or that anyone from the South has
an interest in incest. It is just plain wrong. That is also not to say that no Jewish person is stingy and
that all Southerners have a disciplined sex life. One cannot create stereotypes from a group of people.

Pushing Social Change And Toppling The Patriarchy Essay
Pushing Social Change and Toppling the Patriarchy
Television remains an important medium in exposing the viewing public to marginalized ideas, life
styles, and varied ways of thinking. Unlike a film, which usually takes place over a self contained two
hour period, television offers more screen time over the arch of seasons to explore characters and
themes in deeply meaningful and personal ways. Aided by its structure and format, television
programs are able to touch people, helping to change how we all view the world. In recent years, and
amongst the explosion in popularity of platforms such as Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix, willing to take
risks on shows and themes previously perceived as too risqué for television, programs have pushed the

Jill Soloway, comedian, writer and director, and pioneering television icon, created Transparent to
make the world a safer place for transgenders and other minorities. As Jill Soloway said at the 2016
Primetime Emmy Awards, she wants to topple the patriarchy and make transgenders and members of
the LGBTQ community heroes (Huffington Post, 2016). Therefore, through examining the themes of
gender identity and religion, both themes presented in the film and in class, Transparent comments on
society s current state and proposes meaningful change.
As Transparent begins, the opening credits offer a glimpse into the ideas of gender. From the lighting
of a candle, symbolizing light into the darkness of life, to a shimmering blue dress worn by a female
impersonator the opening credits reveal the process of becoming a transgender. Transitioning from a
male to a female, or vice versa, is a feat that only a few undertake. However, in the show Transparent,
Mort Pfefferman transitions into Maura Pfefferman, a masculine figure who blossoms in femininity
and bravery. While it is already a difficult task to come out as transgender, it is made even more
difficult in this case because Maura has to deal with many family dramas revolving around her self
absorbed children.
Throughout the first season of Transparent, gender identity is explored and seen through the
challenges that the characters face. For

The Ship Poem
Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship occurs
three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this instance
of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or central theme. The
second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word sails is followed by
moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same word twice, and in this
case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is likely to acquire a clear picture
of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the image of the ship s sails by
preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the sails to a sense of abundance or
freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four, where she speeds she speeds is used to
describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it would be considered grammatically correct to
include a comma after the first mention of she speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the
poem: she speeds she speeds gives the impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many
cases, using the same word twice in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting,
this repetition instead works in Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create.

Differences Between Tertullian And Justin Martyr
Yves Gerard
17FA BIBL 111 Intro to Christian Hist/Thght (14)
Drawing on other parts of their writings, what are Tertullian and Justin Martyr saying about faith,
reason, and philosophy in these passages? Are their positions in conflict? What are the implications of
each perspective?
Many believe that the writings of early Church Fathers were lectured to different sects. In fact, one
may assume that there are Similarities and differences between Tertullian and Justin Martyr.
Particularly, let s compare Tertullian s and Justin Martyr perspective of faith, reason, and philosophy!
Justin Martyr is Known as the defender of the faith (Tony lane), (p.10) He looked for truth in Greek
philosophy. Likewise, his apology is in defense of the Christian faith and belief of Christianity. Of the
writings that subsist, his First Apology (c. 155 c.e.; English translation, 1861) contains a resilient
appeal for justice lectured to Antoninus. In that work, he clarifies Christian morals to influence his
reader of Christian faithfulness and honesty. However, also central to this writing is his claim that
Hebrew prophecy and Greek philosophy, both informed by the divine Logos (the Word), pointed to the
coming of Christ. Through such dispute, he facilitated to institute the early Christian theme which
faith is greater than Greek philosophy and is the result of Judaic belief. In Justin s awareness, merely
those who were controlled by fears failed to recognize these facts. His Second Apology (c.

The British And Indian War
The first successful British settlement, motivated for economic gain, in the New World was in
Jamestown, Virginia in 1607. Religious persecution in England, due to the Protestant Reformation,
encouraged the settlement of the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay Colony. The popularity for
economic and religious opportunity sparked exoduses such as the The Great Migration. The British
westward expansion led to land claim disputes with the French on the Ohio River Valley and the
Northeast fisheries. These disputes led to the French and Indians uniting against Britain in the war
known as the the French and Indian War. Although American relations with Britain remained
economically similar in the time before and after the French and Indian War in that Great Britain
relied on the American colonies for revenue, the French and Indian War was a significant political
turning point in that Great Britain s period of benign neglect ended and Americans began challenging
Britain s authority; therefore, the French and Indian War marked a significant turning point in
American relations with Great Britain. Although the French and Indian War marked a significant
turning point, the American and British economic relations remained the same in that Great Britain
relied on America for revenue both before and after the French and Indian War. For example, the
Navigation Act of 1660 enforced by Great Britain both before and after the French and Indian War
restricted America s trade with other foreign

My Personality And Learning Abilities
Learning the Style
Exploring more in depth about my personality and learning abilities was honestly quite surprising. It s
probably based on the fact that we generalized somewhat false ideas about who we are or how we
think we function. Trying to get a better insight about myself, I took several interpersonal surveys
along with questionnaires that had many evolutional properties. Some I found too close to spot on,
others not so much, and I am not really sure how I feel about the outcome.
The first thing to be uncovered was that I am considered more of an auditory learner over the other
types listed. Auditory learner, you probably hum or talk to yourself or others if you become bored.
People may think you are not paying attention, even though you may be hearing and understanding
everything being said. You store information by the way it sounds, and you have an easier time
understanding spoken instructions than written ones ( What s Your Learning Style?). I find this to be
very true for myself because written instructions can often be miss interpreted.
When I was younger in school they always thought I had a reading disability, so for years they had me
go to special educational class once a day during the school week. I found myself to be enraged with
everyone involved. I know that I am extremely able to do what they were asking of me but had no way
to express myself about the matter. While suffering with frustration they did a special education

Antagonist In my story there are absolutely no antagonists. In the history of my book there is a war
that split the world into two sides. They both believed they were doing the right thing. There were
computers that tricked the humans into not fighting, for most of the war. So the story as stupid as it is,
is just a misunderstanding.

instance was when the book states he could have been an angel or a saint.... which means he is a good

importance of these moments.
Social issues Characters are treated very differently because if you are not a high ranking military

devoted to winning the war because neither side looks as if they are going to let up. They are trying to
keep their freedoms. What they should be doing is helping their

Panselectionism Vs Pluralism
I am reminded of learning that when air rushes out of a flat tire, it isn t being squeezed out, it is merely
not being completely contained and the kinetics of matter in the gas phase are sufficient to allow the
tire to deflate to equilibrium with the atmosphere. At first this seemed like a linguistic matter and
mostly irrelevant. For most people it is a completely irrelevant nuance, but not for physicists and
chemists who are using the principles of effusion to separate isotopes of radioactive uranium.
Similarly, while a discussion regarding the difference between panselectionism and pluralism will
sedate most readers into a state of drooling submission, the critique issued by Gould and Lewontin
should be considered carefully by evolutionary ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Several alternatives to panselectionism are presented and are generally all a variation on the neutral
theory of molecular evolution (printing should pend inquiry regarding the lack of credit to Motoo
Kimura for development of said theory). This hypothesis proposes that random genetic drift plays a
dominant role in genetic evolution with selection playing a minor supporting role. In the section titled
Telling Stories, the authors criticize scientists who ignore and/or marginalize the more likely
explanation of neutral theory in favor of the archaic approach of justifying every identifiable
characteristic of an organism as beneficial and inventing an often completely untestable hypothesis for
its utility. I heartily agree with this objection I have long felt that the field of evolutionary biology is
weakened every time the phrase over millions of years is uttered (and it is uttered far beyond the point
of cliché), and every time a biologist duplicitously represents that selection happens without values
and judgment (of course), and then proceeds to describe the various features in terms of survival value
and utility. As the authors point out, the mere existence of a good fit between organism and
environment is insufficient evidence for inferring the action of natural selection (593). Finally, the
authors invoke Darwin himself in order to remind readers that He was patently pluralist and bristled at
being portrayed as a panselectionist although as Gould and Lewontin note, we do not now regard all
of Darwin s subsidiary mechanisms as significant or even valid

Comparing The Pentagram And Pentacle Symbols
The Pentagram and Pentacle Symbolism, 1, Explain It, Kristin Hitchcock With the rise of interest in
Wiccan and Paganism, there has also been a rise in the misunderstanding of certain symbols. Two of
these symbols, the pentagram and pentacle, have perhaps more misunderstanding than most. Many
modern people consider them both symbols of evil and satanic worship. When they imagine either one
of these symbols, they commonly see them being used in blood sacrifices or black magick. However,
these symbols are actually connected with none of these concepts. Instead, they have a long history
and have been used by cultures for centuries to represent all sorts of things from the five elements to
the five wounds of Christ. The Pentagram is defined ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been used as a sacred symbol since ancient times by many different cultures from Egypt to
India. In many ancient cultures, the number five was sacred and had great religious significance. This
can be seen most easily in the myths of the ancient Celts, where the number five appeared numerous
times. Ireland had five great roads, five provinces, and five paths of law. In another culture, the Greeks
specifically, the Pythagoreans considered the pentagram to be a symbol of man, because of the
fivefold division of man s body (right leg, left leg, right arm, left arm, head). They also taught that it
represented to forces that made up the universe air, water, fire, earth, and spirit. This symbolism has
persisted for centuries and is still used widely today by modern Pagans. The pentacle, while it can
represent some of the pentagram s associations, has various other meanings as well. With the addition
of the circle, it becomes a symbol of protection, and is commonly used by modern Pagans in this
sense. When added to the pentagram s symbolism of the five elements, however, the circle can also
cause the pentacle to represent unity and oneness with the universe. However, a pentacle also refers to
a solid, plate like object that is commonly found on many Wiccan altars. In this context, it represents
earth and is used to consecrate ritual

Analysis Of The Book The Minstrel Show
Eleanor W. Traylor begins by explaining the fallacy in thinking that ragtime was the first and foremost
contributor to black theatre art in America. She argues that the source of all that can be called
representative American theatre is Aframerican (47). In other words, she elaborates, there were two
kinds of ceremonies and narratives pervasive to black theatre before ragtime. The minstrel show is one
example. The article stresses that the minstrel show was not invented by white plantation owners, but
that the minstrel show was a failed attempt at satirical imitation. The real minstrel show came from the
Afro American magic circle of creation (Traylor 48). In the same page, she argues that their African
American Minstrel show had its roots in African tradition, specifically, the Yoruba tradition. In this
tradition, the mask is wood until it becomes the mask in motion. Somehow, this mask got translated
into blackface, into a tool for hiding rather than a tool for revealing. The mask used in African
American minstrelsy would reveal the spirit of the mask wearer. Yoruba music would be wholly
original, unusable by their white counterparts because it wasn t wholly understood. The apparatus of
using the wholly spiritual and authentic to create an art that is fully American would evolve over the
centuries until black theatre became what it is during contemporary times. Traylor argues that it is the
only truly American theatre because it was created in America.

Did the Development in European Warfare During the...
Did the development in European warfare during the Sixteenth Century amount to a Military
Revolution ?
By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and
Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. These are both historical events in early
modern Europe. The dramatic changes in Military warfare are also seen as key to European
developments in separating the medieval society from the Modern. The military developments change
that art and organisation of warfare effecting the development of the early modern European state. The
Sixteenth Century brings about new technology, weapons, tactics and armies that some see a resulting

Without Military thinkers such as Gonzalo de Cordoba, Maurice of Orange and Gustavus Adolphus
the military changes would never have taken place. Maurice of Orange had small units of highly
trained soldier in manoeuvres that need many more officers and NCOs to lead them. Gustav Adolf
improved fire discipline and the long practise in arms. Also enforces the importance of military
education and mathematics in European warfare.
Strategy was another major area of revolution in military Europe in the sixteenth century. With the
development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident
about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles
without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put
these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. He returns to a linear
formation for shot armed infantry and an aggressive style of charge for the cavalry.
However strategic development does not confirm the argument that a Military revolution took place in
sixteenth century Europe. There were changes but rather evolutionary and progressive then that of a
revolution. Gustavus Adolphus strategic warfare may not be seen as

The Truth in Negotiations Act was passed on December 1, 1962 requiring government contractors to
submit cost or pricing data if the procurement met specific requirements in order to establish that the
offer is fair and reasonable. The history of The Truth in Negotiations Act will set the stage for its
significance in the twenty first century. Prior to World War II, the United States government conducted
its bidding process for procurement in an open bid environment. What was required for a bid was a
complete description of the requirement, two or more suppliers capable and willing to complete the
requirement, a selection based on price competition and sufficient time to prepare a complete

It was contended by GAO that the government s negotiator would be in a better position to establish
an equitable price if contractor cost data were made available. (Maddox, 2013)
In 1959, the United States Air Force took the beginning steps of implementing a process that was
based on the Government Accountability Office s recommendation. This process required certification
of contractor cost data, as recommended. The Department of Defense followed the example set by the
Air Force by issuing a revision to the Armed Services Procurement Regulations to require certification
of cost data.
The Truth in Negotiations Act has the purpose of insuring that the government is receiving a fair and
reasonable pricing, essentially helping to prevent defective pricing and allowing the government to be
able to get set retributions for defective pricing. This is something that is solely found in the world of
government contracting, as there is nothing similar to it in a commercial environment. A potential
supplier will have to supply the government with a certificate of current cost or pricing data.

This transition was huge not only for Texas A M but for their former and upcoming opponents. When
undergoing the transition I think that the communities were most affected by the economic changes
that were headed their way. Texas A M University would leave a projected $217.2 million dollar hole
in the Big 12 gross product profit, and forfeit about 3,050 jobs (Dosh, Kristi). This is would be a huge
deficit for any community or conference to try to come back from. A fear that The Big 12 had was that
they would almost need to find a team that is up to par with the Aggies to fill that whole if they
wanted to economically survive this transition. The same comparison cannot be said for Texas A M
and the economy for College Station, Texas. According to Dosh there would still be seven or eight

However it s not like Austin needed the economic help from Aggie fans but towns like Waco that is
home to the Baylor Bears or Lubbock that is home to the Red Raiders that did. With those towns being
day trip distance it draws many students and dedicated fans to attendance to those games to pump
money into their economy. While in the Big 12 Texas A M had an expense budget of about 70 million
dollars, but there were some top tier schools with a budget closer to 100 million and this was what A
M thought that the SEC could offer them (Sandhop, David). There was hope that there would be
excitement and renewed support after making the change because some people get excited for
something new. When there was rumors then conformation that the Aggies were joining the SEC the
university was given a substantial amount of donations that were used as the base to start planning a
renovation of Kyle Field to create an enclosure on the Southeast in zone that would also offer more

The Similarities Between Fahrenheit 451 And Our Society
Introduction:
There are many differences between Fahrenheit 451 and our society. There society is different from
ours in ways like the way they ve been governing themselves, their houses, and mental stability. There
are many similarities as well as differences between our modern day society and the society in
Fahrenheit 451 .
Topic one government: In our society we have government, it may not be anywhere near as strict as
Fahrenheit 451 s government it is still very strict. There similarities are how we have to keep a strict
structure to our society s. he walked out of the fire station and along the midnight street toward the
subway... There society is all about no books and keeping everyone how they want, and our society
keeps us in a nice neat structure that people like to bend and break, unlike 451. In 451, when someone
breaks the book law they get there house put up in flames, while the books went up in sparkling whirls
and blew away on a wind turned dark with burning. (bradbury, 2) That is a difference and a similarity
between our governments.
Topic two their houses: ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Our houses have front doors that swing open and have keyholes. In fahrenheit 451, there doors slide
open and have glove holes (like a keyhole that uses your hand as a key). I know this because in the
book it says, he put his hand into the glove hole of his front door and let it know his touch. The front
door slid open. (Bradbury, 8). There is some similarity to there door though, on our houses we have
sliding glass doors. He stood up looking at the ventilation grill in the hall... (Bradbury, 8) we have

starring Matthew Mcconaughey about a team of astronauts who explore through a black hole in an
attempt to save humanity. The movie uses exciting music and detailed scenery to give the audience an
amazing experience. The almost three hour movie gives the reader nothing but excitement from one
scene to the next. The obstacles they face become more and more frustrating, but yet still engaging. In
the near future, the world has been plagued with droughts, disasters, and famines. A farmer Cooper

Alchemy In The Alchemist
If someone would want to find their own personal treasure, would someone want to find it with the
right people? In Paulo Coelho s fictional novel, The Alchemist , Santiago, a shepherd boy in Andalusia
makes a heroic journey to find his treasure and his own Personal Legend. After meeting a gypsy and a
mysterious king, Santiago leaves his sheep and travels to North Africa. There he meets a crystal
merchant, an Englishman, and the Alchemist himself. Throughout his journey, he experiences robbery,
leads an army, and eventually uses alchemy. In his journey, some helpers and guides he meets are the
gypsy, the crystal merchant, and the Englishman; and each of them would help Santiago in find his
personal legend. One of the guides Santiago meets is a gypsy woman in Andalusia. This woman tells
Santiago where to go to find treasure. She tells him to go to the Pyramids of Egypt. Santiago would
find treasure that will make you a rich man (Coelho 17). The gypsy helps Santiago in finding his

Harvey Velocity Theory
Shortly after the Mets 4 2 victory over the Marlins on Wednesday afternoon, the Mets quietly
announced that RHP Matt Harvey was being sent to the 15 day disabled list for discomfort in his right
shoulder. This roster move followed weeks of struggles on the mound for Harvey, who has thus far
pitched to career worst marks in ERA and K/9 marks, en route to a 4 10 record on the season. While
he s still actually pitching respectably (by FIP, Harvey s been keeping pace with Zach Greinke, Jordan
Zimmerman, and David Price), this is not the season we ve come to expect from the Dark Knight. So
what has been tormenting the pride of Gotham?
The Velocity Theory
One big factor could be Harvey s velocity. Harvey s average velocity on all of his pitches ... Show

But no pitcher will ever go up on the mound without any defense behind them (unless you re Satchel
Paige), because most pitchers won t be striking out everyone they face (and by most, I mean all).
Inevitably, some batter will make contact and put the ball in place, at which point, getting the batter
out becomes the responsibility of the defense. Typically, some balls will fall in for hits, but most won
t. The percentage of the balls put in play that become hits is measured using BABIP, or Batting
Average on Balls In Play (it s also pretty fun to say). BABIP can be used to measure how good the
defense is behind a pitcher, in addition to how unlucky or lucky they are. Comparing their current
season figure season to their career number can let you know if a pitcher is over or under performing.
For instance, Jon Lester of the Cubs has been pitching this season with a .265 BABIP, which is
significantly less than his career number of .299 this indicates that he s been the beneficiary of good
defense and good luck while on the mound.
So what does this have to do with Harvey? Everything. On the season, Harvey is pitching to the tune
of an incredible .353 BABIP more than 60 points worse than his career average. His .353 figure is the
second worst in the MLB only Robbie Ray is pitching with a worse BABIP, .364 (and Ray s career
BABIP is .339, so the difference between

The Signal Data Obtained Through The Measurement Phase
The signal data obtained in the measurement phase is then used to approximate the position of the
target node. Since, due to many factors range data often gets attenuated by noisy signal measurements,
optimization methods are to be employed to filter the noise and arrive at a more definite position
estimate. Lateration:When ranges between anchor nodes and the mobile node can be determined,
lateration is used to estimate position [35]. For two dimensional localization, three range
measurements from known positions (anchor nodes) are required. Radius of a circle of each category
as anchor nodes as represented in is the ideal position. At one point the three circles intersect, and that
the intersection is the location of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Most common outputs include: Absolute positions: Positions with coordinate s information which
could be directly mapped to physical space. The absolute location could either be represented in
discrete space as cells or grids or in continuous space with coordinates. Relative positions: The
geometrical relative location by angle or distance to certain reference point (RP), in other word, the
absolute position of the user could be obtained only if absolute positions of RP are known. Logical
positions: Identifying user s position without information directly corresponding to physical space but
associated with certain patterns including motions, activities and landmarks. Physical location could
then be given by retrieving associate spatial features of those patterns. The output of a localization
system is closely related to the methodology or algorithms the system uses to localize. The calculation
of positions is the core engine of localization. We examine various existing methods and sort them
into following categories: Geometric: System based on geometric calculation including triangulation,
trilateration and multilateration, to give user s relative position to certain RP. When the absolute
positions of RP are known, the absolute position of user could be given. Inertial navigation system
(INS): A common navigation method widely used on vehicles like

Annë Bronte s Poems
There are times when sense fades away, consciousness flies, and the mind silences, these are the signs
when death beckons upon someone. Death alone is one of the popular themes of poetry, including the
final moment of one s life before the grim reaper descends. Such topic is a truly elusive, yet plausible
to be utilized. Apparently, there are two poets that do agree to this, Annë Bronte, and Dorothy Parker.
It is worth questioning that an alcoholic and depressed American woman of the 20th century who was
quite a prominent writer could agree about a topic with a Victorian English governess whose writings
inspired by her first hand experiences. Judging from nationality, with Annë being an English, and
Dorothy being an American, it can be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For example O, beautiful, and full of grace! in the 1st line of the 2nd stanza, Also And oh, that smile!
in line 3 in the 5th stanza. The O statement is used to intensify the emotion of feeling elated or joy,
instead of calling nonexistent being. Another distinct figurative language, is Irony from the line Adieu,
but let me cherish, still in the first line of the 6th stanza. It is irony to say goodbye, while having a
wish to keepsake something. Symbols are also present in the poem, like the first line of the 5th stanza,
That laughing eye, whose sunny beam . The sunny beam is actually a symbol from the look of
happiness in someone s eyes. Also the statement And oh, that smile! whose joyous gleam in line 3 of
the 5th stanza. The joyous gleam is a symbol to the smile that is nice. But similar to Dorothy s poem,
there were some personifications used, like they still shall dwell; in the 3rd line of the first stanza
shows the fondest thought to have the ability to dwell in mind, as if it has feet. Another example is
Contempt may wound . This shows how the contempt has the quality to wound someone. Hyperbole is
also present in this poem, in the statement Could fancied charms so far outvie. The word outvie alone
is adequate to describe greatness, but using so far is truly a hyperbole to how great the charm

Don John Villain Essay
At first glance the character Don John resembles a traditional villain. Miriam Webster defines a villain
as, a cruelly malicious person who is involved in or devoted to wickedness or crime , but does this
truly define the psyche of Don John? As a bastard, or an illegitimate son, Don John has always been
out of the spotlight, portrayed as an idea of someone who doesn t belong in a natural heir decent. In
reality though, Don John is one of the only people in the play that shows a vulnerable, honest
reflection of himself. In a scene he confesses to Conrad that, [he] cannot hide what [he is]. [he] must
be sad / when [he has] cause, and smile at no man s jests; eat when [he has] / stomach, and wait for no
man s leisure; sleep when [he is] / drowsy, and tend on no man s business (I.3.10 13). Because for ...

Other characters, like the Prince, have a place in the society of Messina. Despite being the only
character without this social status, Don John is one of the only characters who stays true to who he
thinks he is. Thought the play several of the other charters call into question who they are, who they
support, and what role they play, but Don John stands apart. IN act one this becomes more evident as
he declares himself a plain dealing villain (I.3.25), and that others should seek not to alter [him]
(I.3.29), meaning that altho is position as a outsider was not chosen, he knows his place and his
identity. This rhetoric that Don John states draws a stark comparison and revels the reality that all the
confusion that is caused is because the other charters are not capable of honest reflections of
themselves. If Claudio was able to do an honest reflection about himself, perhaps he would have
realized that his quickly changed mind about affections for Hero means that he is not in love at all. IN
addition perhaps is Hero was able to this same sort of reflection, he would have realized that in her
marriage she sought only to please others, and her happiness lie

  • 2. Road Cormac Mccarthy The Road Analysis The book The Road Cormac McCarthy creates a darkened mood when he puts this son and father into a destroyed world. McCarthy created this concept of a world to intensify the meaning of the piece all together. This darkness in the world creates to fear and the isolation for characters to realize that this is how life is from now on. The son in this novel comes to the realization of the world due to certain events within the novel that manipulation the view the son has on the world. An important flaw the son has is that he does not remember the world as a peaceful place the son only remembers the world destroyed. This type of naivetes gives the boy a minimal outlook on the past and see the difference of the present. The father knows the difference which gives the father the realization before The Road begins. The son in portions of The Road is starving, this desolate place called the world does not give any chance of hope or second ones. The importance of this geographical state in the book makes the father and son rely on one another because they know the very importance of staying alive, and the only way they can do that is to fight for one another. The Road opens with a setting of desolation, When he woke in the woods in the dark and the cold of the night he d reach out to touch the child sleeping beside him , which creates a concern within the readers that are realizing the magnitude of this horrible place. • 3. American Society s Attitudes Toward Immigrants New Year s, Istanbul. 39 dead. Suspect yet to be found. Devastating headlines like these have become common in the years following September 11, 2001, and in the wake of the war on terrorism, there has emerged a less vocal war; the war on immigrants. So in a time and age where terrorism is not something unknown but rather sadly familiar, we must ask ourselves to what extent fear from terrorists attacks impact the American Society s views towards immigrants. Terrorist attacks have deeply resonated in the minds and hearts of many Americans, leading them to develop unfair and irrational views towards immigrants, the scapegoats of all the pain and anger attacks have caused. Through a social perspective, it can be seen that through xenophobia, racism, stereotypes, prejudice and the theory of a folk devil, Americans denounce those not similar to them. ... While they both deeply affect a society s standard of living, there are five main differences between the two. According to The Business Dictionary, (http://www.businessdictionary.com/definition/manufacturing sector.html), the definition of manufacturing sector are industries that are involved in chemical, mechanical or physical conversion of substances, ingredients, or components into consumer or industrial goods. However, a manufacturing firm does not need to employ many people because most manufacturing organizations can automate their production processes to reduce their labor requirements. The fifth mentioned difference is location, service firms do not require a physical production site allowing them to be located anywhere, an example would be Amazon, which spent most of it s forming years without a standing office due to their ability to operate solely through the internet. Manufacturers on the other hand must have a physical location for the production and stock holding operations. These differences create a difference in their respective accounting books as based on reviewing different companies in both sectors, companies in the manufacturing sector usually had much larger assets and overall higher numbers in the four major financial statements. Reviewing specifically the cases of Wal Mart and Marriott International, the international hotel chain, the tables below provide the differences between the accounting practices and trends of the two sectors. African Americans left the south and moved to the north to large cities like Portland, Detroit, Seattle and topic at hand Chicago. In search of new lives and to avoid tough segregation laws blacks flooded the Chicago area. According to online reports more than 6 million African Americans moved up north from 1916 to 1970. The mistreatment of the southerners and segregation alone was a huge incentive for African Americans to leave the south. • 6. Ethics and the Pharmaceutical Industry 1. Introduction Over the past couple of decades, a sudden change has started to take over the way business is done. The time when no rules applied, and anyone could do what they pleased at the cost of others or the environment is rapidly ending. Instead, companies today have become aware that it is essential for them to employ ethics and morality in their actions, if not they will be heavily scrutinized and rejected by the public. This way of thinking also applies to the pharmaceutical industry, which over the past century has been rapidly expanding. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Even though the pharmaceutical industry has made great improvements to human health and quality of life, like creating drugs for the treatment of AIDS, cancer, and other diseases, an increasing tension is growing between the public and the industry. These thoughts are fueled by issues such as drug pricing, affordable health care, and the battle against epidemic diseases in third world countries; social critics wonder whether this multi billion dollar industry is giving enough back to the community and fulfilling its social responsibility. But the question still remains, how has ethics become involved in the pharmaceutical Industry? To understand this better, I will briefly talk about the history of the industry. In the late 19th and early 20th century key discoveries, such as insulin and penicillin, were made. These medicines were needed in large quantities, and thus allowed major companies that we know today to begin the mass manufacture and distribution of these. In order to test and approve drugs and to require appropriate labeling legislation was enacted. As the pharmaceutical industry grew, prescription and nonprescription drugs became legally distinguished from one another. From the 1950 s on, numerous new drugs were developed and mass produced, including the first oral contraceptive, Cortisone, blood pressure drugs, etc. In 1960 Valium ... The Political Regime Of A Country There is a general consensus emerges that formal institution is the main variable in shaping the political regime of a country (Tsebelis, 1995; Helmke and Levitsky, 2004). However, there are several conditions should be examined in order to ensure the logical flow of the relationship. Institution is matter but it also depends on the other conditions (Przeworski, 2004). This paper review some articles in institutions, why there is a different opinion regarding the institutions and revisit Ramseyer and Rosenbluth s book in order to gain more understanding about the political institution theory. In his concluding remark, Przeworski (2004) argued that history shapes the institution to be better, so he believed that institutions depend on the conditions under which they established and sustain, his argument is supported by Thelen, who proposes the historical institutionalism analysis in examining the effect of institution to the outcome. According to Thelen (1999), institution can be both endogenous and exogenous variables and it depends on the literature that we applied to generate the hypothesis. Institution is independent variable when we apply the rational choice institutionalism. A group of researchers who work based on the rational choice institutionalism tend to find the generalization across time and countries, offer deductive method and focus on behavior of people (Thelen, 1999). • 10. The King s Character in a Cinematic Production of... Although labeled as a history, the strength of Shakespeare s Henry V lies not in the events that occur in the play, but in the delicate portrayal of the characters involved. Shakespeare s audience would have already known the story of Henry V s campaign on France and thus would have had no reason to watch a play that simply re enacted past events. Therefore, the appeal of such a play, as well as the themes and the content, would have been dependent largely on the characters themselves. It is obvious that the most prominent character is the man whose name the play carries Henry V. The entire story centers on his deeds. He serves as the catalyst for the action, the driving force behind all that takes place. Without him there is no ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The subtleties of such ambiguities make any direction a complex task as one tries to reconcile conflicting viewpoints. In doing so, there are two widely respected cinematic versions of Henry V that may be considered: Laurence Olivier s 1944 production and Kenneth Branagh s 1989 version. Olivier s version is pure patriotism, while Branagh s is grittier and much darker. Olivier s is more stylized and innocent, giving it a more chivalric and fairy tale atmosphere. Branagh s, on the other hand, is more realistic in its portrayal of Henry s invasion of France. However, as Shaw points out, in each case the king emerges as the hero through cinematic and textual editing decisions. The most glaring omission common to both is Henry s order to kill the French prisoners taken at the Battle of Agincourt. This scene is omitted because it is one of those textual ambiguities that may leave an audience of the original play uncertain as to the quality of man that the Henry is. This would have been in opposition to both Branagh and Olivier s heroic depictions. This would not, however, be the route chosen for this production. Henry V, as Norman Rabkin describes it in Shakespeare and the Problem of Meaning, is a work whose ultimate power is precisely the fact that it points in two opposite directions, virtually daring us to choose ... • 11. Nature Vs. Nurture Discussion Millions of children start new lives every day. The process of their development has always been of question to us; we are completely unaware of the exact processes that they go through. Human psychologist continue to ponder the dispute of whether the factors that structure a human are biological or circumstantial. Several contradicting theories have been made about the nature versus nurture discussion. Through personal experience and being an older sibling, I am able to clearly analyze and make my own conclusions. I believe that nurture is the dominating force compared to nature. Nature refers to the inherited traits. Each human being has roughly 100,000 genes that create the physical characteristics of a child. The genes are only responsible for fostering traits such as blue eyes, brown hair, and skin color. In addition, nature is also responsible for passing on genes that contain diseases such as alzheimer s and even certain cancers. On the other hand, nurture refers to the environmental factors that influence a person. Nature is the superior force in the creation of personality and distinct and individualized characters because each person perceives events differently. After our brains perceive different events, we either produce dopamine (pleasure) or register in our cortex to not do the same thing again. A common example used by psychologists is the hot stove; if you get hurt by touching a hot stove, it is highly likely that you will never do it again. Because ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 13. Why Rumor Is Defined By The New York Stock Exchange Rumor is defined by the Oxford English Dictionary as an unverified or unconfirmed statement or report circulating in a community. In the financial community, rumors have an effect on the direction of markets. The New York Stock Exchange in the United States is the epitome of how rumors can impact trade. The fluctuation of stock and commodity (raw material) prices on a daily basis is, in part, due to the daily news cycle. Although reports by news companies are supposed to be factual, statements made can be unverified. Because of the large scale of social media, anyone can make up rumors that can go viral. Stock traders rely on the news to determine what stocks they will buy or sell. News reports include important information such as: new product developments, company restructures, commodity reports, and scandals. Because of the rapid news, trading on the stock market happens very fast and it gets chaotic. As the buyers and sellers interact their process sets the stock price. The news effects the stock price because if a positive story circulates, there will be more buyers for a stock, which will raise the stock price; if a negative story circulates, there will be fewer buyers, which will lower the stock price. This constant process can either earn a big payday or be a total loss. Because of the money that people stand to either make or loose, rumors have an effect on the way individuals behave on the stock market. To better understand how rumors work within the financial ... In modern society, both the abstract and concrete representations of children are intertwined with the themes associated with happiness, innocence, ignorance, gullibility, and the allure of youth. But, if I may for a moment mimic Caroline Vout s presentation of her arguments by asking, how does today s current view of children differ from the non linguistic representations of children in ancient times? If one was to rewind time while focusing solely on the exemplification of children in ancient Greek and Rome, they would discover that presumably there is a degradation of the importance of the child in society. With respect to the first sub category that is listed, the sculpture of the struggle of Laocoon and his Sons is used to underscore the ideals connected with children. It is in the sculpture that we see Laocoon s son s depicted as man children ; for their muscled bodies, short hair, and matured faces give the impression that they are more adult than youth. However, their innocence and age is reflected in their marginal positions and their diminutive sizes when contrasted to their father. To emphasize the multiple versions of children, Vout incorporates the sculpture Hercules Strangling Snakes, which associates children with strength and the reverse of that sculpture, Statuette of a Seated Girl, expresses the innocence and youth found in children. Concerning the interaction of the viewer with the role of children in Hellenistic art, Vout emphasizes that the significant presence of a child in pieces like, Laocoon and his Sons, are important because they encourage viewers to connect with the masterpiece in a different way. Now, staying within that realm of thinking, one is directed to the question: How central are the representations of Laocoon s children to the melodramatic composition? This question may be answered if one examines the impact of their inclusion and then infer the impact of their hypothetical exclusion. The Queensland Police Service (QPS) Incident Command System (ICS) was raised as a project in 2001 with the aim of establishing a Command system which could be used for any type of incident or event. Extensive research was conducted into ICS models throughout Australia and overseas. The QPS ICS was finally adapted from the North American ICS model which allows a flexible approach to incident response with effectiveness and efficiency. The QPS ICS was then adopted into Section 1.12 of the QPS Operational Procedures Manual (OPM 2014). The QPS ICS takes a formal approach by gathering intelligence, planning a response and deploying the available resources to achieve a specific result (QPS2013a). The QPS ICS model is based on five interlocking functional roles. These roles are Command, Operations, Planning, Intelligence and Administration and Logistics. Depending on the size and nature of the incident the five roles can be carried out by a single officer or an incident management team with a Police Forward Commander (PFC) who will have overall supervision. (QPS2013a). The Command role will be undertaken by the first officer attending the incident who will assume the role of Police Forward Commander (PFC) (OPM 1.12.3) who will remain in this role until the incident is resolved or command responsibility is transferred, usually to a more senior officer (QPS2013a). Beowulf And The Epic s Christian Identity Beowulf and the Epic s Christian Identity Composed in early eighth century by an unknown author the epic poem Beowulf, follows the exploits of the protagonist of the same name. Originally composed orally by a tribe s scop, the epic of Beowulf delivers insight on the lives and adventures of characters that lived in the sixth century. Although, the tale of Beowulf was formulated during post Roman collapse by presumably pagan people; written around seven hundred A.D., it is probable that a Christian monk transcribed the grand narrative implanting Christian motifs and ideals into pagan Scandinavian culture. Therefore, the result of this concoction is a blended storyline infused with religious imagery and allusion along with traditional Nordic beliefs of war and honor. The tale, and arguably, the tragedy of Beowulf illustrate the conflict between the Pagan elements and Christian tenets, as aspects of both are present in the epic. The underlying Christian and Pagan values in Beowulf illustrate the iniquity of mankind and its eventual downfall through allusion to god, symbolism, and vices and virtues of warrior man. Firstly, Hrothgar s monologue foreshadows the climax and tragedy of man; moreover, Hrothgar s speech illuminates the end of both warrior and king. For example, after the battle in which Grendel is defeated, Hrothgar say, First and foremost, let the Almighty father be thanked for this sight. I suffered a long harrowing by Grendel. The Pre Columbian temple represents the rejection that she has to European traditions. She also has two fertility dolls and their position represent the cycle of life and death. In my opinion she paints this dolls to represent how she feels because she can t have babies. She also has a Skulls that represents Mexican culture of death. The skulls is in most of Frida s paintings. She painted because she has been in the edge of death . I also think that she paint the skull because sometimes she wants to be death. She was obsessed with her husband Diego Rivera but he didn t respect her feelings and he cheat her several times. The flowers and the clouds represent the natural surrounding that Mexico has. Within the text, the words of Socrates are delivered as they are remembered by Plato. It is important to note that previously Plato was both a student and a disciple of Socrates, therefore his rendition of the trial could have been considerably biased towards the man he viewed as a tremendous hero. Ultimately, Plato s account describes what he holds to be true about his hero, even though Socrates teachings are somewhat idealized by his pupil. There also may be a possibility that Socrates defense of himself may be stronger than the argument that is originally perceived and understood. The dialog consists of a number of different parts. Aeneas demonstrates pietas, the devotion to one s family, mission, and homeland. Like Aeneas, Jesus in The Gospel of Matthew possesses pietas as he constantly shows dedication to his people, fate, and country. Each fulfills his duties, whether it is through finding his people s new land or spreading the word of his god. The cultures the authors lived in during the time the texts were written shaped their literary figures beliefs and actions. Aeneas and Jesus both have variations of pietas. Aeneas depicts the familial component of having pietas in a literal sense; he makes sure he leaves none of his family behind as he escapes the destruction of his homeland. • 28. The Ship Poem Within The Ship Starting, there are three notable instances of repetition. For one, the word ship occurs three times (including in the title). Given that ships are the topic of interest in the poem, this instance of repetition has the basic effect of bringing the locus of the text back to the title, or central theme. The second example can be observed in the second and third lines, where the word sails is followed by moonsails, a made up compound version of the former word. Using the same word twice, and in this case, by adding on and modifying its second appearance, the reader is likely to acquire a clear picture of the scene that Whitman lays out in the poem. Emphasizing the image of the ship s sails by preceding the words with diction such as all and even attributes the sails to a sense of abundance or freedom. The third instance of repetition occurs in line four, where she speeds she speeds is used to describe the motions that the ship is making. Whereas it would be considered grammatically correct to include a comma after the first mention of she speeds, leaving it out better reflects the content of the poem: she speeds she speeds gives the impression of a ship slicing through the water quickly. In many cases, using the same word twice in a row takes away from a text s message, but in The Ship Starting, this repetition instead works in Whitman s favor by supporting the visual imagery he seeks to create. Of the writings that subsist, his First Apology (c. 155 c.e.; English translation, 1861) contains a resilient appeal for justice lectured to Antoninus. In that work, he clarifies Christian morals to influence his reader of Christian faithfulness and honesty. However, also central to this writing is his claim that Hebrew prophecy and Greek philosophy, both informed by the divine Logos (the Word), pointed to the coming of Christ. This hypothesis proposes that random genetic drift plays a dominant role in genetic evolution with selection playing a minor supporting role. In the section titled Telling Stories, the authors criticize scientists who ignore and/or marginalize the more likely explanation of neutral theory in favor of the archaic approach of justifying every identifiable characteristic of an organism as beneficial and inventing an often completely untestable hypothesis for its utility. I heartily agree with this objection I have long felt that the field of evolutionary biology is weakened every time the phrase over millions of years is uttered (and it is uttered far beyond the point of cliché), and every time a biologist duplicitously represents that selection happens without values and judgment (of course), and then proceeds to describe the various features in terms of survival value and utility. As the authors point out, the mere existence of a good fit between organism and environment is insufficient evidence for inferring the action of natural selection (593). This symbolism has persisted for centuries and is still used widely today by modern Pagans. The pentacle, while it can represent some of the pentagram s associations, has various other meanings as well. With the addition of the circle, it becomes a symbol of protection, and is commonly used by modern Pagans in this sense. When added to the pentagram s symbolism of the five elements, however, the circle can also cause the pentacle to represent unity and oneness with the universe. However, a pentacle also refers to a solid, plate like object that is commonly found on many Wiccan altars. In this context, it represents earth and is used to consecrate ritual ... • 39. Analysis Of The Book The Minstrel Show Eleanor W. Traylor begins by explaining the fallacy in thinking that ragtime was the first and foremost contributor to black theatre art in America. She argues that the source of all that can be called representative American theatre is Aframerican (47). In other words, she elaborates, there were two kinds of ceremonies and narratives pervasive to black theatre before ragtime. The minstrel show is one example. The article stresses that the minstrel show was not invented by white plantation owners, but that the minstrel show was a failed attempt at satirical imitation. The real minstrel show came from the Afro American magic circle of creation (Traylor 48). In the same page, she argues that their African American Minstrel show had its roots in African tradition, specifically, the Yoruba tradition. In this tradition, the mask is wood until it becomes the mask in motion. Somehow, this mask got translated into blackface, into a tool for hiding rather than a tool for revealing. The mask used in African American minstrelsy would reveal the spirit of the mask wearer. Yoruba music would be wholly original, unusable by their white counterparts because it wasn t wholly understood. The apparatus of using the wholly spiritual and authentic to create an art that is fully American would evolve over the centuries until black theatre became what it is during contemporary times. Traylor argues that it is the only truly American theatre because it was created in America. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

By the Sixteenth century, Luther had successfully challenged the Catholic Church from 1517 and Copernicus had declared a solar centric universe in 1543. Also enforces the importance of military education and mathematics in European warfare. Strategy was another major area of revolution in military Europe in the sixteenth century. With the development of new soldier and armies strategies become more ambitious. Ruler were more confident about campaigning against many different armies at the same time and took part in decisive battles without the fear that mercenary soldier would run away. Gustavus Adolphus was one of the first to put these new strategic concepts to the test according to the historian Roberts8. He returns to a linear formation for shot armed infantry and an aggressive style of charge for the cavalry. The Truth in Negotiations Act The Truth in Negotiations Act was passed on December 1, 1962 requiring government contractors to submit cost or pricing data if the procurement met specific requirements in order to establish that the offer is fair and reasonable. The history of The Truth in Negotiations Act will set the stage for its significance in the twenty first century. Prior to World War II, the United States government conducted its bidding process for procurement in an open bid environment. What was required for a bid was a complete description of the requirement, two or more suppliers capable and willing to complete the requirement, a selection based on price competition and sufficient time to prepare a complete statement of the government s needs and terms. ... It was contended by GAO that the government s negotiator would be in a better position to establish an equitable price if contractor cost data were made available. (Maddox, 2013) In 1959, the United States Air Force took the beginning steps of implementing a process that was based on the Government Accountability Office s recommendation. This process required certification of contractor cost data, as recommended. The Department of Defense followed the example set by the Air Force by issuing a revision to the Armed Services Procurement Regulations to require certification of cost data. The Truth in Negotiations Act has the purpose of insuring that the government is receiving a fair and reasonable pricing, essentially helping to prevent defective pricing and allowing the government to be able to get set retributions for defective pricing. This is something that is solely found in the world of government contracting, as there is nothing similar to it in a commercial environment. When undergoing the transition I think that the communities were most affected by the economic changes that were headed their way. Texas A M University would leave a projected $217.2 million dollar hole in the Big 12 gross product profit, and forfeit about 3,050 jobs (Dosh, Kristi). This is would be a huge deficit for any community or conference to try to come back from. A fear that The Big 12 had was that they would almost need to find a team that is up to par with the Aggies to fill that whole if they wanted to economically survive this transition. But no pitcher will ever go up on the mound without any defense behind them (unless you re Satchel Paige), because most pitchers won t be striking out everyone they face (and by most, I mean all). Inevitably, some batter will make contact and put the ball in place, at which point, getting the batter out becomes the responsibility of the defense. Typically, some balls will fall in for hits, but most won t. The percentage of the balls put in play that become hits is measured using BABIP, or Batting Average on Balls In Play (it s also pretty fun to say). BABIP can be used to measure how good the defense is behind a pitcher, in addition to how unlucky or lucky they are. Comparing their current season figure season to their career number can let you know if a pitcher is over or under performing. For instance, Jon Lester of the Cubs has been pitching this season with a .265 BABIP, which is significantly less than his career number of .299 this indicates that he s been the beneficiary of good defense and good luck while on the mound. So what does this have to do with Harvey? Everything. On the season, Harvey is pitching to the tune of an incredible .353 BABIP more than 60 points worse than his career average. Since, due to many factors range data often gets attenuated by noisy signal measurements, optimization methods are to be employed to filter the noise and arrive at a more definite position estimate. Lateration:When ranges between anchor nodes and the mobile node can be determined, lateration is used to estimate position [35]. Death alone is one of the popular themes of poetry, including the final moment of one s life before the grim reaper descends. Such topic is a truly elusive, yet plausible to be utilized. Apparently, there are two poets that do agree to this, Annë Bronte, and Dorothy Parker. It is worth questioning that an alcoholic and depressed American woman of the 20th century who was quite a prominent writer could agree about a topic with a Victorian English governess whose writings inspired by her first hand experiences. This rhetoric that Don John states draws a stark comparison and revels the reality that all the confusion that is caused is because the other charters are not capable of honest reflections of themselves. If Claudio was able to do an honest reflection about himself, perhaps he would have realized that his quickly changed mind about affections for Hero means that he is not in love at all.
