Lady Capulet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay
Lady Capulet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet
A woman during the 16th century did not have the freedoms that a woman today enjoys. During
Shakespeare s life wives were not allowed the independence they take pleasure in today. Therefore,
the role of the mother for Juliet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is not commanding or authoritative
because of the time period Shakespeare lived.
The role of a wife must be looked at in order to understand and appreciate Juliet s mother. When a
couple was married during the 16th century, Susan Amussen said it was the beginning of a
partnership, but not one of equal proportions. The husband is awarded all the power in the family. He
represents the family to the outside world and keeps the peace ... Show more content on

As a woman, Lady Capulet can relate to how Juliet feels when she is told she is to marry Paris.
However, as a wife, she cannot voice an opinion of who or when Juliet is to marry. She is experienced,
and asks Juliet, Speak briefly: can you like of Paris love (1.3.98). Because she is the caretaker, she
respects Juliet s feelings, but she can do nothing, even if Juliet does not learn to love Paris. Perhaps
she asks this question because her own mother never asked it. She may want to know her daughter s
opinion, because until a woman is married, she has all the rights of a man according to Pitt. However,
the father ruled over his daughter, and it was virtually impossible to remain unmarried while the father
held all the decision making (14).
An ideal wife during the 16th century, according to author Barnaby Rich is, A friend for pleasure, a
servant for profit, a counselor to advise him, a comforter to cherish him, and a companion to solace
him (115). That is exactly what Lady Capulet is to her husband. She is the one who has to inform
Juliet about her wedding to Paris. Capulet has the power to choose whom their daughter will marry,
but it is the wife who is given the job to tell Juliet. Capulet says, Go you to Juliet ere you go to bed.
Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day (3.4.31 32). As the obeying wife of the time, she does as
she is told.

Zigbee Based Home Automation System
IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Vol. 55, No. 2, MAY 2009
A ZigBee Based Home Automation System
Khusvinder Gill, Shuang Hua Yang, Fang Yao, and Xin Lu
Abstract In recent years, the home environment has seen a
rapid introduction of network enabled digital technology. This technology offers new and exciting
opportunities to increase the connectivity of devices within the home for the purpose of home
automation. Moreover, with the rapid expansion of the Internet, there is the added potential for the
remote control and monitoring of such network enabled devices. However, the adoption of home
automation systems has been slow. This paper identifies the reasons for this slow adoption and
evaluates the potential of ZigBee for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover the sharing of a single Bluetooth module between numerous devices has the disadvantage of
incurring an access delay. [4] introduced a phone based remote controller for home and office
automation. The system differs in that all communications occur over a fixed telephone line and not
over the Internet. The system can be accessed using any telephone that supports dual tone multiple
frequency (DTMF). The disadvantages of this system are threefold: users are not provided with a
graphical user interface, users have to remember an access code, and they have to remember which
buttons to press for the control of connected devices. [5] proposed a novel control network, using hand
gestures. The controller uses a glove to relay hand gestures to the system. The problem with the
system lies in the inaccuracy of hand gestures, with the potential for normal arm movements being
inaccurately interpreted as commands. Moreover, there is the risk of user fatigue if repetitive hand
gestures are required. The introduction provides a short review of the existing academic research into
home automation. The publically available research into home automation lies predominantly in the
academic arena, with little industrial research being publically available. The adoption of home
automation technologies into commercial systems has been limited,

Positive Effects Of Colonization Of Africa
Was the Colonisation of Africa good or bad?
What is Colonialism?
Colonisation is created when an independent and powerful country settles in an areas out side of it s
own frontiers, such as Asia, Africa and America, and takes control over it. The colony, the area under
control, is usually wanted for its great resources, both natural resources such as mines, local
agriculture, crops, etc. and manpower. The colony s resources are being exploited for the own good of
the controlling country. The settlers in the new location, bring in their own culture, religion and
language. What Is Colonisation? Example Essays. N.p., 3 Feb. 2002. Web. 8 Mar. 2016.

When the Europeans colonised Africa, they brought great new technologies and new inventions that
the Africans weren t aware of, such as new medicine that saved people s lives, new farming techniques
and tools that got the Africans more food, cotton and other supplies from the fields that were harder to

of his most intensive and powerful pieces were written in (5th Symphony, Piano Concerto No.3, for

during Beethoven s early period, when he was 27 years old, and published in 1799. It is perhaps
Beethoven s earliest composition that has achieved widespread and enduring popularity. Dedicated to

The Book Of Hosea
The Book of Hosea is first in the division of the Bible called the Book of Twelve, or the Minor
Prophets because of their relative brevity compared to Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Hosea was a
prophet originating from the Northern Kingdom and his prophecies were mainly meant to bring the
Northern Kingdom back on track. The ministry of Hosea was around 750 720 B.C., so it ended around
the fall of the North Kingdom ( The Story of the Northern Kingdom, 11).
The book consists of Hosea s speeches that critique political, social, and religious life during the last
days of the Northern Kingdom before it was conquered and demolished by the Assyrians ( The Story
of the Northern Kingdom, 11 12). Additionally, Hosea s ministry began during or shortly after the
prophet Amos, as well as the final days of King Jeroboam II reign. It is no ... Show more content on

The book says, Hear the world of the Lord, O people of Israel; for the Lord is an indictment against
the inhabitants of the land. There is no faithfulness or loyalty and no knowledge of God in the land,
(Hosea 4:1). The Lord is accusing the nation of a list of crimes, causing the people to have no
knowledge of God in the land. Many of those crimes relate to the Ten Commandments; therefore, the
land and all who lives upon it were starting to perish.
Chapter 4 of the Book of Hosea discusses the corruption issues brought about by the priests. Priests
depend on the sacrificial system for food; therefore, having more sins requires more sacrifices. Hosea
accuses the priests of leading the nation in the wrong direction. He suggests this when he says, They
feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity, (Hosea 4:8). Furthermore, The Lord
believes that the priest should not be immune from the consequences of their wrongdoing. On the
other hand, the Lord is conflicted because it would be hypocritical of him to not forgive the

possibly the most hygienic tool invented, was created within the vicinity of that cement cubicle. This
imprisoned inventor was no other than William Addis of England.
II. Credibility Statement: As a fan of the toothbrush and an aspiring Dentist, I became curious as to
which genius thought of inventing the modern toothbrush and would like to inform you of the things I

Supporting Point: The then current process of brushing teeth could use a lot of refinement, considering
how advanced toothbrushes are today.
1. Sub Point: In the 1700s, teeth were expected to be cleaned using a rag being dipped in water.
a. This process required the availability of a chimney for the soot or regular salt.
b. By using soot as toothpaste, people opened the door and allowed lung cancer and other heart
diseases to enter their body (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, 2002).
c. A study evaluated the effects of soot on the lungs over a 16 year period, in which soot is the cause
for many respiratory ailments and sometimes even death (National Institute of Environmental Health
Sciences, 2002).
2. Addis realized that the process could use improvement, so he gathered the appropriate tools.
a. The process of cleaning teeth consisted of placing a rag on their finger with soot and attempt to
reach all 32 teeth in the mouth.
b. Instead, he saved a chicken bone from a prior prison meal and received bristles from a prison guard.
(East London History)
c. In the vicinity of his own prison cell, he drilled holes into his chicken bone and attached the bristles

Analysis Of Flannery O Connor s Two Story
I am going to mention about Flannery O Connor s two stories in my essay. One of them is The Life
save may be your own and the other is A good Man is Hard to Find . I will talk about Flannery O
Connor s stories summary and my opinions about that. Firstly I am starting with summary of O
Connor s The Life Save may be your own Story starts with an elderly women and her daughter. After
that one of the men come up their road named Mr. Shiftled. He starts smoking and during the
conversations, they decided to make an arrangement. Mr. Shiftled starts to work around the farm in
return of some food and shelter. They continue their talking about marriages. Mrs. Crater asks him that
he are married or not and after that she wants to marry with her daughter but he refused this. Even
though he refused to marry with her at first than he lied for car than he accept to marry ... Show more

The life you save may be your own In my opinion in this story our characters are important. Mr.
Shiftled had a big chance to save his life but he didn t do this. He is selfish that he accept the marriage
but not for Lucynell. His life could be better but it couldn t. I think Mrs. Crater is not a good mother
because she wants a sudden marriage with one she never knew. But the important point of the story is
about the boy and Mr. Shiftled. And the story ends with Shiftled prayerfull shout. So he tries to be
clean in the world but he gets into a rut both genuine and metaphorically meaning. I am continuing
with the second story analysis; I think out main character grandmother is a religious and moral person
and she is little bit selfish. She wants everything to be her own way. She has strong religious believes
like our novelist O Connor. O Connor has a strong believer to Christianity. While grandmother was
dying, she seems like closer to God. Also an angel figure. But we don t find it realistic. Because her

Worm Lab
Introduction Earthworms have light receptors that act like their eyes, and can tell when they are in the
dark versus in the light. Their nerves can detect light, vibrations, and even some tastes, and the
muscles of their bodies make movements in response. They breathe through their skin. Air dissolves
on the mucus of their skin, so they must stay moist to breathe. If worms dry out, they suffocate.
(Journey North,2017) Worms are decomposers and break down the soil. They are helpful in gardens to
mix around the soil. Knowing these facts, this experiment tested their response to the stimulus of a
flashlight. The experiment was ran so there can be a deeper understanding of how worms are in the
wild. Answering questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We hypothesized that the worms would move faster as the light increased. When looking at the
behavior chart, you can tell that not only they moved slower as the light increased, they also showed
signs of early paralysis. When the light was dark, the first worm moved faster and further than the rest.
Worm #1 stayed with the barrier and wasn t bothered by the light. Worm #2 moved diagonally from
the light as if it were blind. Worm #3 did not move until after 60 seconds. Worm #4 moved faster
towards the 4 inch mark then stopped and turned back to start line. The data provided shows that the
hypothesis was wrong.
Conclusions
Unlike what was predicted, the worms moved slower each time the light power increased. When the
worms were exposed to the bright lights, that replicated the sun. When worms are in the sun for too
long, their skin begins to dry out and they become paralyzed and die. (Journey North, 2017). It can be
theorized that when the worms saw the flashlight, they were stunned, and/ or thought they were in
danger and that is why they moved slower. During the experiment, the light was moved as to follow
the worm, next time the experiment is performed, the light should stay stationary. Additionally, there
needs to be more certainty that a different worm was used in each

Statue Of Gudea Essay
The Statue of Gudea is a prehistoric piece created in 2090 B.C. The Statue of Gudea is a sculpture in
the round made of Diorite. This piece was made in the Neo Sumerian period ( Statue of Gudea | Neo
Sumerian | Neo Sumerian | The Met. ). The Statue of Gudea uses pattern and depth to create an
intriguing and complex ancient piece.
The Statue of Gudea is made of a thick and heavy stone. Creating The Statue of Gudea would take a
significant amount of time to create, perhaps months or years. There are also detailed inscriptions and
patterns that would take a lot of focus and a time to create. The Statue of Gudea has some
imperfections and looks damaged in some areas. The head of the statue is cracked at the bottom. This
cracking makes me believe the head has likely been reattached. There is also some chipping along the
neckline and on the cheek. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The face emphasizes the eyes. It does this by making the eyes larger than normal. The oversizing
creates an intense effect that brings attention to the eyes. Also, by the eyes, are the eyebrows, which
are also larger than usual, and even patterned. This also draws attention toward the face of the piece.
This makes me believe the creator wanted attention to be drawn towards the eyes or face. This
oversizing and attention towards the eyes could be to show the power or intensity of the figure/ person
being created in The Statue of Gudea. There is also some highlights given off in the eyes that bring
focus to the area. The eye region also is given more detail than the nose or mouth. The mouth is not
showing any emotion, this could be done to give the piece a more serious effect. The nose does not
have any detail or oversizing. However, attention is brought to the nose from the highlight given off.
There are also highlights on the right half of the face. All these details make the face a main focal

Critical Theories Of Criminology
Introduction
In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and
postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each.
Discussion
There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper
will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups,
moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white
collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes,
including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is
considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the
majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases
crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The
lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes
creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker
members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the
deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an
unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is
described as senseless violence.
The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent
approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm
Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need
for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover,
working together to resolve those issues. This theory views the acts of punishing individuals for
crimes committed as the source for continued criminal acts. A shift from

Applied to the learning environment of an early childhood classroom
Vygotsky and Piaget theories can apply to an Early Childhood classroom simply because most of their
theories will benefit the teachers to use in their classroom. Vygotsky s scaffolding is when teacher to
show guidance towards their students so the students can have the ability to comprehend and think on
their own. Solving problems and solution is a boundless to use in the classroom especially if the
teachers need and want the children to prepare themselves for the real world. Piaget s theory has the
four stages of Cognitive ability. Thus it will benefit the teacher to use when they are observing the
child thinking abilities with proper use of the assessment and difference of the child s age. For an
example if the teacher is teaching two years old she would want to look for make believe play, when a
child likes to pretend they are a character from movie or book this stage is call Preoperational Stage.
Teachers should observe the activities when the child is pretending to be Queen Elsa or Princess Anna.
Social cognitive theories emphasize that teaching and learning are highly social activities and that
interactions with teachers, peers, and instructional materials influence the cognitive and affective
development of learners (Kim, Baylor, pg. 574, 2006). Teacher should provide a rich variety to

Fatigue Experiment Essay
1. The hypothesis: There was three different expected outcomes derived from two different aims of
this experiment. The first hypothesis being that increasing reward will restore attention to the task at
hand. From the second aim of the experiment they expected two separate distinct outcomes; the first
would suggest that fatigue has to do with limited energy sources so they expect little to no
improvement from increased motivation. The second outcome dealt with flexible motivational
systems and expected great improvements or even returning to baseline motivation and attention
levels. 2. The operational definition(s) of the dependent variable(s): The researchers used eye tracking

Subjective fatigue and engagement was measured at all stages of the experiment and was measured in
two ways. The first way was the Rating Scale Mental Effort which is seven vertical scales which go
from 0 to 150 and assessed different aspects of mental fatigue. The second way was subjects were

Differences Between Achilles And Achilles
In his book, The Encyclopedia of Greek and Roman Mythology, Roman states that,
The Greek concept of the hero was not based on a calculation of the warrior s social utility and
helpfulness in straightforward terms; rather a hero s greatness is defined by how extraordinary he is,
how far he transcends the lives of ordinary mortals (2010:8).
This essay will compare the greatest hero of the Trojan War, Achilles with the strongest hero of
Ancient Greece, Herakles. It will also discuss how they compare to their modern day representations
in cartoons, movies and pop culture.
These two very well known heroes of Ancient Greek mythology were both born from one mortal and
one immortal parent. While their bravery, battle skills and strength have earned them a place in the
history books there are also some differences between these heroes. Achilles, the protagonist of Homer
s epic, the Iliad, was the son of Peleus, a mortal king and Thetis, a sea nymph and daughter of Neseus
(Roman 2010:7). One version of the story describes Achilles as the only surviving child of this
marriage, after Thetis had murder six of her children by burning them (Pinsent 1983:114). A later
version states that his mother tried to protect him when he was born by dipping him in the river Styx

Purpose:
The purpose of this lab is to calculate the percent recovery as well as prepare an adsorption
chromatography column and finally, separate a mixture using chromatography.
Theory:
In this lab we will be using chromatography to separate a mixture. When we hear the chromatography
we think of many different things. Chromatography is referred to as several related techniques to
separate mixtures of compounds, analyze and identify. Although there are different techniques the one
thing that they all have in common is that they have an operation that is two parts. The two parts are
known as mobile phase and stationary phase. In the mobile phase is known as the liquid or gas that the
mixture is placed in. After the sample goes through the mobile phase it is then carried into the
stationary phase which is a solid support that contains one of two things, an adsorbent or a different

This technique uses a glass column. In an experiment, the first step of the process begins with the

compounds to have different attractions to one of the two or both of the phases. This is how we
separate the different compounds in the mixture because they go at different rates. This process is
slightly similar to gel electrophoresis in biology. In the fact that both separate at different speeds. For
gel electrophoresis the smaller fragments move faster than the large ones. In adsorption column

Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction and thought in
an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any research, post
positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets out a research
project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the hypothesis or
theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the participants of the
research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal properties between the
variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to positivism and the
interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant for value based
information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive paradigm, instead
the research is mainly focused on quantitative data.

Free Will In C. S. Lewis Mere Christianity
I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him...
(Lewis 52). In Mere Christianity, C.S. Lewis goes in to detail and discusses very controversial topic.
He answers one of the most disputed questions of all time: Who was Jesus? While many believe in His
existence, and the fact that He was who He said He was, some believe that he was just a great prophet
and teacher or that he never in fact existed. Lewis gives evidence of Christ being who He said he was,
and is today, by exposing flaws found in beliefs and theories contrary to the Bible. Simply mentioning
the name of Jesus can cause quite a commotion. It is quite mind boggling to see one man s name strike
a nerve somewhere so deep inside of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When humans were created, He instilled inside of us the concept of free will. In layman s terms, we
have been given the ability to choose. One can choose to believe in God, or in gods, or in nothing at
all. This free will is what ultimately allows us to have a relationship with God. Without free will, why
does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him?
God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some
people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I
can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible.
Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the
only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. (Lewis 47, 48) Whether you
believe Christ is a liar, a lunatic or Lord, you cannot say he was only a great moral teacher. If you
believe He is a liar, practice your free will and believe as you wish. If you believe He is a lunatic,
practice your free will and believe in the same manner. If you believe He is Lord, practice your free
will and believe it. But do not say He did not exist, or that He was just a great, moral teacher. I have
found otherwise. I know your deeds that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish that you were cold or hot.
So because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of My mouth. (Revelation

Intraoperative Brain Mapping
Treatments no longer costing an arm and a leg During open heart surgery, a machine assumes control
of lung function and pumping the blood around the patient s body. Intraoperative brain mapping,
sometimes called awake brain surgery, is a procedure used to remove brain tumours without damaging
the brain, and as the name suggests, the patient is sedated but very much awake. Procedures such as
these are nothing short of remarkable, and as science and medicine continue to develop, conditions
which would have meant certain death can now be treated with relative ease. Although we can save
lives this sometimes comes at a cost, and in the case of diabetes and some cancers, limb amputation is
a necessary compromise; but that could be about to change. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The research that is being conducted focuses largely on the electrical and chemical interactions and
relationships within organisms. The magnitude of the negative charges of cells are identified with an
in vivo dye which causes more negative areas to glow more brightly. What has been found is that
more negative areas in frogs essentially plot where certain features, in one case the eyes, are going to
develop. By manipulating an area on the tail slightly more negative, the frog developed with an eye on
its tail. Such a small alteration had such a significant outcome on the frog, which is an indication of
how powerful this research is. Chemical modification was also found to strongly influence the
developing embryos when a frog embryo was treated with Prilosec, a stomach acid relief drug, which
caused craniofacial defects as well as causing the organs to develop on opposite sides of the body.
Prilosec interfered with the movement of the ion set, potassium and hydrogen, which was enough to
impact patterning in the developing frog, resulting in defects. Research in the field has also been
applied to try and improve severed spinal cords. In these tests, the movement of nerves was controlled
by introducing a charge difference across the break in the spine. This caused nerves to move towards
the charge and from here they were able to heal. Although it was found that the nerves couldn t move
past the scar tissue, the experiment indicated that these techniques have to potential to be effectively
applied to developed individuals, which could mean a chance at recovery for those living with spinal

Essay Of Prenatal Screening In Mary Shelley s Frankenstein
In her novel, Frankenstein, Mary Shelley warns of the boundaries of scientific exploration. Victor
Frankenstein, a brilliant scientist, attempts to play God in resurrecting a corpse and creating new life.
This has disastrous effects which include the death of many characters throughout the novel. All told,
the story provides a cautionary tale of the attempts to play God in regards to scientific advancement.
This raises the question of how far is too far in terms of scientific exploration. With the increasing
popularity of eugenics in regards to prenatal screening, one can t help but wonder, is this the
dangerous idea of playing God that Shelley warned us about? One of the most common forms of
eugenics nowadays is prenatal sex selection. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
During IVF, the egg is typically fertilized in a lab before being implanted into the uterus. Before
transferring the embryo into the uterus, some fertility clinics offer patients the option of choosing what
sex embryo they want. Although IVF is more commonly used for families struggling with infertility
rather than for the sole purpose of sex selection, sex selection is still an option. This seems both
futuristic and controversial but Codington Lacerte argues that prenatal sex selection methods allow
parents to make informed choices about the makeup of their families (Codington Lacerte, Point: Sex
Selection ). This type of eugenics is seemingly harmless because in choosing a sex for their child,
parents aren t really damaging society. However, by giving parents the ability to choose whether they
want a male or female child, the possibility of a skewed sex ratio greatens. In countries where sex
selection is common, gender biases are already skewing the sex. According to Codington Lacerte,
Americans also exhibit a son preference (Codington Lacerte, Counterpoint: Sex Selection ). By 2009,
over thirty countries, predominantly in Europe and the Asia Pacific region, had

African American Schools Vs White Schools
Equality didn t come to African Americans right after the Civil War. It took over a hundred years to
get that. Even though slaves were now free, after the Emancipation Proclamation, there still was
segregation and inequality. Jim Crow Laws segregated the country by not letting African Americans,
sit, eat and drink from the same things as White people. Things that slowed down the equal rights
movement are the debate on whether African American had the right to vote, the debate on whether
African Americans may have the right to sit in the front of the bus, and much more. Another one is
whether African American kids have the right to go to the same school as White kids, which is what
the topic I chose to talk about today is about. The Brown v.s the Board of Education is about a little
girl who was brave enough to go into a school for white children and attempt to get an education. This
brought up a lot of controversy about whether children of any race should go to school together or not.
Obviously is was successful because today children of both races go to school in harmony. Now let s
learn a bit more about this case and why it s important. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

A Pre study phase (including estimations) where the project team clarifies requirements, identifies

A Development phase (that may consist of different iterations and technical reviews) in which
technical solutions are defined, software coding is implemented, validation and verification activities
are performed, requirements are traced and project plans are monitored.
When completed, an end of development review is held with all project stakeholders to make sure that
the software meets customer/market requirements with the expected level of quality.
Then the software is delivered to customers and to the teams in charge of maintaining it, through an
Acceptance phase. In that phase, Customers will check that the software meets its requirements and

Faith Bandler. Born 1918, Tumbulgum NSW, one of 8 children. A descendant of South Sea Islanders.
South sea islanders refers to the Australian descendants of people from more than 80 islands in the
Western Pacific who were recruited between the mid to late 19th century as labour in the sugarcane
fields of Queensland. Some were even kidnapped or blackbirded into long term services.
At the age of only 12 13 her father was kidnapped from the island of Ambrym, in 1883, and brought to
Australia to work as an unpaid labourer in the Queensland cane fields. Could any of you imagine that?

Dr Zimbardo s Fault In The Case Of Abu Ghraib
The evidence from Stanford suggests that, according to Maria Konnikova, certain institutions and
environments demand those behaviors and, perhaps, can change them. No institution or environment
on this planet demands the behaviors seen in Abu Ghraib or The Stanford Experiment. The
environment and leadership at the time of Abu Ghraib had a hand in this unfortunate incident. In Dr.

if found guilty, and we must separate guilt from blame. Being an active duty member in the Navy,
whenever there is a serious incident or accident blame is always investigated for. Who do we blame?

American Popular Culture and Its Impact in a Globalized World
Americans, after all, did not invent fast food, amusement parks, or the movies. Before the Big Mac,

This definition will work for the purposes of this paper. American popular culture has never been more
dominant internationally than in the middle of the 90s – nor more controversial. Serious money is
involved as pop culture is America s second biggest export after aircraft (Rockwell 1994). There is a
common perception that in the process of globalization American products dominate everywhere on
the world s markets. The fact that you can quench your thirst with Coca Cola in about 185 countries is
but one example of U.S. economic ambition (Stephens 1993, online). Likewise, European anti
globalization activists have long criticized Hollywood and its big budget studios for monopolizing the
world movie in dustry and, consequently, flooding other cultures with American iconolatry. The popu
larity of a movie like Jurassic Park (1993), for instance, was identified as threatening to the national
identity of other cultures. It has also been lamented that due to the widespread distribution of
industrialized music and the loss of music that is charac teristic of a certain culture, civilizations are
increasingly losing a sense of national identity and pride (cited in Lanza 2001, online).
The high culture canon has been remarkably transnational for at least the past century, but as soon as
popular culture with its Western made goods and the ideo logical values they are oftentimes said to

Sterilization Laws Of The United States
Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the
procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the
nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of
the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and
eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H.
Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical
Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states
(Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or
involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of
institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to
their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30
states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen
1997). Though the eugenic nature of these laws was stressed by eugenicists, it was acknowledged that
the political support of such laws were greatly financially motivated. Another important legislation
passed by the U.S. was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1924, which was the first immigration

making many different kinds of maps. Throughout the book, she creates maps of places like her

that need to be added to a map, which I find extremely helpful. This is one reason I think this book is

  • 2. Lady Capulet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet Essay Lady Capulet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet A woman during the 16th century did not have the freedoms that a woman today enjoys. During Shakespeare s life wives were not allowed the independence they take pleasure in today. Therefore, the role of the mother for Juliet in Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is not commanding or authoritative because of the time period Shakespeare lived. The role of a wife must be looked at in order to understand and appreciate Juliet s mother. When a couple was married during the 16th century, Susan Amussen said it was the beginning of a partnership, but not one of equal proportions. The husband is awarded all the power in the family. He represents the family to the outside world and keeps the peace ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As a woman, Lady Capulet can relate to how Juliet feels when she is told she is to marry Paris. However, as a wife, she cannot voice an opinion of who or when Juliet is to marry. She is experienced, and asks Juliet, Speak briefly: can you like of Paris love (1.3.98). Because she is the caretaker, she respects Juliet s feelings, but she can do nothing, even if Juliet does not learn to love Paris. Perhaps she asks this question because her own mother never asked it. She may want to know her daughter s opinion, because until a woman is married, she has all the rights of a man according to Pitt. However, the father ruled over his daughter, and it was virtually impossible to remain unmarried while the father held all the decision making (14). An ideal wife during the 16th century, according to author Barnaby Rich is, A friend for pleasure, a servant for profit, a counselor to advise him, a comforter to cherish him, and a companion to solace him (115). That is exactly what Lady Capulet is to her husband. She is the one who has to inform Juliet about her wedding to Paris. Capulet has the power to choose whom their daughter will marry, but it is the wife who is given the job to tell Juliet. Capulet says, Go you to Juliet ere you go to bed. Prepare her, wife, against this wedding day (3.4.31 32). As the obeying wife of the time, she does as she is told. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Zigbee Based Home Automation System IEEE Transactions on Consumer Electronics, Vol. 55, No. 2, MAY 2009 A ZigBee Based Home Automation System Khusvinder Gill, Shuang Hua Yang, Fang Yao, and Xin Lu Abstract In recent years, the home environment has seen a rapid introduction of network enabled digital technology. This technology offers new and exciting opportunities to increase the connectivity of devices within the home for the purpose of home automation. Moreover, with the rapid expansion of the Internet, there is the added potential for the remote control and monitoring of such network enabled devices. However, the adoption of home automation systems has been slow. This paper identifies the reasons for this slow adoption and evaluates the potential of ZigBee for ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Moreover the sharing of a single Bluetooth module between numerous devices has the disadvantage of incurring an access delay. [4] introduced a phone based remote controller for home and office automation. The system differs in that all communications occur over a fixed telephone line and not over the Internet. The system can be accessed using any telephone that supports dual tone multiple frequency (DTMF). The disadvantages of this system are threefold: users are not provided with a graphical user interface, users have to remember an access code, and they have to remember which buttons to press for the control of connected devices. [5] proposed a novel control network, using hand gestures. The controller uses a glove to relay hand gestures to the system. The problem with the system lies in the inaccuracy of hand gestures, with the potential for normal arm movements being inaccurately interpreted as commands. Moreover, there is the risk of user fatigue if repetitive hand gestures are required. The introduction provides a short review of the existing academic research into home automation. The publically available research into home automation lies predominantly in the academic arena, with little industrial research being publically available. The adoption of home automation technologies into commercial systems has been limited, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Book Of Hosea The Book of Hosea is first in the division of the Bible called the Book of Twelve, or the Minor Prophets because of their relative brevity compared to Isaiah, Jeremiah, and Ezekiel. Hosea was a prophet originating from the Northern Kingdom and his prophecies were mainly meant to bring the Northern Kingdom back on track. The ministry of Hosea was around 750 720 B.C., so it ended around the fall of the North Kingdom ( The Story of the Northern Kingdom, 11). The book consists of Hosea s speeches that critique political, social, and religious life during the last days of the Northern Kingdom before it was conquered and demolished by the Assyrians ( The Story of the Northern Kingdom, 11 12). There is no faithfulness or loyalty and no knowledge of God in the land, (Hosea 4:1). The Lord is accusing the nation of a list of crimes, causing the people to have no knowledge of God in the land. Many of those crimes relate to the Ten Commandments; therefore, the land and all who lives upon it were starting to perish. Chapter 4 of the Book of Hosea discusses the corruption issues brought about by the priests. Priests depend on the sacrificial system for food; therefore, having more sins requires more sacrifices. Hosea accuses the priests of leading the nation in the wrong direction. He suggests this when he says, They feed on the sin of my people; they are greedy for their iniquity, (Hosea 4:8). But what if I told you that the toothbrush, possibly the most hygienic tool invented, was created within the vicinity of that cement cubicle. This imprisoned inventor was no other than William Addis of England. II. Credibility Statement: As a fan of the toothbrush and an aspiring Dentist, I became curious as to which genius thought of inventing the modern toothbrush and would like to inform you of the things I ve discovered. Sub Point: In the 1700s, teeth were expected to be cleaned using a rag being dipped in water. a. This process required the availability of a chimney for the soot or regular salt. b. By using soot as toothpaste, people opened the door and allowed lung cancer and other heart diseases to enter their body (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, 2002). c. A study evaluated the effects of soot on the lungs over a 16 year period, in which soot is the cause for many respiratory ailments and sometimes even death (National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, 2002). 2. Addis realized that the process could use improvement, so he gathered the appropriate tools. a. The process of cleaning teeth consisted of placing a rag on their finger with soot and attempt to reach all 32 teeth in the mouth. b. • 8. Analysis Of Flannery O Connor s Two Story I am going to mention about Flannery O Connor s two stories in my essay. One of them is The Life save may be your own and the other is A good Man is Hard to Find . I will talk about Flannery O Connor s stories summary and my opinions about that. Firstly I am starting with summary of O Connor s The Life Save may be your own Story starts with an elderly women and her daughter. After that one of the men come up their road named Mr. Shiftled. He starts smoking and during the conversations, they decided to make an arrangement. Mr. Shiftled starts to work around the farm in return of some food and shelter. They continue their talking about marriages. Mrs. Crater asks him that he are married or not and after that she wants to marry with her daughter but he refused this. Even though he refused to marry with her at first than he lied for car than he accept to marry ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The life you save may be your own In my opinion in this story our characters are important. Mr. Shiftled had a big chance to save his life but he didn t do this. He is selfish that he accept the marriage but not for Lucynell. His life could be better but it couldn t. I think Mrs. Crater is not a good mother because she wants a sudden marriage with one she never knew. But the important point of the story is about the boy and Mr. Shiftled. And the story ends with Shiftled prayerfull shout. So he tries to be clean in the world but he gets into a rut both genuine and metaphorically meaning. I am continuing with the second story analysis; I think out main character grandmother is a religious and moral person and she is little bit selfish. She wants everything to be her own way. She has strong religious believes like our novelist O Connor. O Connor has a strong believer to Christianity. While grandmother was dying, she seems like closer to God. Also an angel figure. But we don t find it realistic. Because her touching is just ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. Worm Lab Introduction Earthworms have light receptors that act like their eyes, and can tell when they are in the dark versus in the light. Their nerves can detect light, vibrations, and even some tastes, and the muscles of their bodies make movements in response. They breathe through their skin. Air dissolves on the mucus of their skin, so they must stay moist to breathe. If worms dry out, they suffocate. (Journey North,2017) Worms are decomposers and break down the soil. They are helpful in gardens to mix around the soil. Knowing these facts, this experiment tested their response to the stimulus of a flashlight. The experiment was ran so there can be a deeper understanding of how worms are in the wild. Answering questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... We hypothesized that the worms would move faster as the light increased. When looking at the behavior chart, you can tell that not only they moved slower as the light increased, they also showed signs of early paralysis. When the light was dark, the first worm moved faster and further than the rest. Worm #1 stayed with the barrier and wasn t bothered by the light. Worm #2 moved diagonally from the light as if it were blind. Worm #3 did not move until after 60 seconds. Worm #4 moved faster towards the 4 inch mark then stopped and turned back to start line. The data provided shows that the hypothesis was wrong. Conclusions Unlike what was predicted, the worms moved slower each time the light power increased. When the worms were exposed to the bright lights, that replicated the sun. When worms are in the sun for too long, their skin begins to dry out and they become paralyzed and die. (Journey North, 2017). It can be theorized that when the worms saw the flashlight, they were stunned, and/ or thought they were in danger and that is why they moved slower. During the experiment, the light was moved as to follow the worm, next time the experiment is performed, the light should stay stationary. Additionally, there needs to be more certainty that a different worm was used in each ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This piece was made in the Neo Sumerian period ( Statue of Gudea | Neo Sumerian | Neo Sumerian | The Met. ). The Statue of Gudea uses pattern and depth to create an intriguing and complex ancient piece. The Statue of Gudea is made of a thick and heavy stone. Creating The Statue of Gudea would take a significant amount of time to create, perhaps months or years. There are also detailed inscriptions and patterns that would take a lot of focus and a time to create. The Statue of Gudea has some imperfections and looks damaged in some areas. The head of the statue is cracked at the bottom. This cracking makes me believe the head has likely been reattached. There is also some chipping along the neckline and on the cheek. ... Also, by the eyes, are the eyebrows, which are also larger than usual, and even patterned. This also draws attention toward the face of the piece. This makes me believe the creator wanted attention to be drawn towards the eyes or face. This oversizing and attention towards the eyes could be to show the power or intensity of the figure/ person being created in The Statue of Gudea. There is also some highlights given off in the eyes that bring focus to the area. The eye region also is given more detail than the nose or mouth. The mouth is not showing any emotion, this could be done to give the piece a more serious effect. The nose does not have any detail or oversizing. However, attention is brought to the nose from the highlight given off. There are also highlights on the right half of the face. All these details make the face a main focal point of the ... • 11. Critical Theories Of Criminology Introduction In this paper, I will discuss conflict criminology, radical criminology, peacemaking criminology, and postmodern criminology providing a comparison as well as a contrast to each. Discussion There are several theories developing critical theories of criminology, the first discussed in this paper will be conflict theory (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The conflict theory is the inequality of competing groups, moreover, the different social statuses of individuals. This theory compares the differences in white collar crime to the crime of the blue collar class. White collar crime is mostly money related crimes, including embezzlement, committed by the economically elite, conversely, blue collar crime is considered more violent as well ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The structure of this societal hierarchy places a few individuals in the higher ranks of society with the majority within the lower ranks, the proverbial winners as compared to the losers. This theory bases crime upon the various class struggles to obtain wealth within an unequal economic environment. The lower class struggles to obtain the same level of material wealth held by those of the higher classes creating an extremely competitive environment leading to individuals taking advantage of the weaker members of society to further their own level of wealth. The radical theory defines crime as the deprivation of basic human rights, as individuals compete for a portion of societal wealth in an unequally distributed market they become overly competitive with one another leading to what is described as senseless violence. The third theory discussed in this paper is the peacemaking criminology, this theory is a non violent approach to change society through the transformations beginning at the individual level (Bohm Vogel, 2011). The theorist of peacemaking view suffering as the cause of crime, expressing the need for a change within society to become for aware of the needs of those less fortunate, moreover, working together to resolve those issues. Differences Between Achilles And Achilles In his book, The Encyclopedia of Greek and Roman Mythology, Roman states that, The Greek concept of the hero was not based on a calculation of the warrior s social utility and helpfulness in straightforward terms; rather a hero s greatness is defined by how extraordinary he is, how far he transcends the lives of ordinary mortals (2010:8). This essay will compare the greatest hero of the Trojan War, Achilles with the strongest hero of Ancient Greece, Herakles. It will also discuss how they compare to their modern day representations in cartoons, movies and pop culture. These two very well known heroes of Ancient Greek mythology were both born from one mortal and one immortal parent. While their bravery, battle skills and strength have earned them a place in the history books there are also some differences between these heroes. Achilles, the protagonist of Homer s epic, the Iliad, was the son of Peleus, a mortal king and Thetis, a sea nymph and daughter of Neseus (Roman 2010:7). One version of the story describes Achilles as the only surviving child of this marriage, after Thetis had murder six of her children by burning them (Pinsent 1983:114). • 19. General Positivism And The Interpretive Paradigm Part 1: Purpose a) Social Science Research Paradigm The social science paradigm also known as Post positivism consists of testing hypothesis and research questions that are developed through reasoning. This is done through measurements and observation. Social scientists aspire to science and they seek to study human behaviour, interaction and thought in an organized way; which we can then measure, generalize and replicate. Like any research, post positivism needs to be backed up by evidence. When a social science research sets out a research project, it is their goal to find evidence that can either agree or disagree with the hypothesis or theories. Post positivism, compared to positivism allows more interaction with the participants of the research project and seeks to highlight the relationship between universal properties between the variables. The best way to understand post positivism is by comparing it to positivism and the interpretive paradigm. Compared to positivism, post positivism is more tolerant for value based information, however is not focused on qualitative information like the interpretive paradigm, instead the research is mainly focused on quantitative data. b) Literature Review Students are now busier than ever, according to the survey conducted by the New Zealand Union of Students Association, 63% of students are working while at university, with an average of 25 hours a week (2010), this causes clashes when it comes to arranging physical group ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When humans were created, He instilled inside of us the concept of free will. In layman s terms, we have been given the ability to choose. One can choose to believe in God, or in gods, or in nothing at all. This free will is what ultimately allows us to have a relationship with God. Without free will, why does God give us the opportunity to live and to choose Him? God created things which had free will. That means creatures which can go wrong or right. Some people think they can imagine a creature which was free but had no possibility of going wrong, but I can t. If a thing is free to be good it s also free to be bad. And free will is what has made evil possible. Why, then, did God give them free will? Because free will, though it makes evil possible, is also the only thing that makes possible any love or goodness or joy worth having. By manipulating an area on the tail slightly more negative, the frog developed with an eye on its tail. American popular culture has never been more dominant internationally than in the middle of the 90s – nor more controversial. Serious money is involved as pop culture is America s second biggest export after aircraft (Rockwell 1994). There is a common perception that in the process of globalization American products dominate everywhere on the world s markets. The fact that you can quench your thirst with Coca Cola in about 185 countries is but one example of U.S. economic ambition (Stephens 1993, online). Likewise, European anti globalization activists have long criticized Hollywood and its big budget studios for monopolizing the world movie in dustry and, consequently, flooding other cultures with American iconolatry. The popu larity of a movie like Jurassic Park (1993), for instance, was identified as threatening to the national identity of other cultures. It has also been lamented that due to the widespread distribution of industrialized music and the loss of music that is charac teristic of a certain culture, civilizations are increasingly losing a sense of national identity and pride (cited in Lanza 2001, online). • 32. Sterilization Laws Of The United States Sterilization legislature was enacted on the state level with the goal of physically preventing the procreation of individuals deemed to be unfit, mainly handicapped persons or criminals. Though the nature of these laws did not outright target certain races or social classes, a disproportionate amount of the individuals sterilized were non white or of immigrant background. Prominent eugenicists and eugenic organizations in the U.S. played a key role in lobbying for state sterilization laws. Harry H. Laughlin, superintendent of the Eugenics Record Office, drafted the American Model Eugenical Sterilization Law in 1922, which served as a model for many sterilizations laws in the states (Berenbaum, 1998). By 1926, 23 states had passed sterilization laws that were voluntary and/or involuntary in nature (Sofair, 2000). Laughlin and other eugenicists called for the sterilization of institutionalized individuals under the assertion that their genetically inferior traits would be passed to their progeny and be an economic drain on the state. Many states complied, and by 1935 over 30 states had some form of sterilization law with over 21,000 compulsory sterilizations performed (Allen 1997). Another important legislation passed by the U.S. was the Immigration Restriction Act of 1924, which was the first immigration quota ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This book starts out with a girl named Lisa talking about how her class is learning how to use maps. The story then proceeds to Lisa making many different kinds of maps. Throughout the book, she creates maps of places like her bedroom, her dog s treasure map, and her dog s favorite places. The book talks about important things that need to be added to a map, which I find extremely helpful. This is one reason I think this book is such a great resource to use for social studies. Another reason I think it is a good resource is because the maps are very detailed, which helps students ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
