This Critique Will Discuss The Two Business Strategic...
This critique will discuss the two business strategic analysis models of SWOT and Porters 5 Forces,
with a view to further understanding their application in Strategic Management. I will discuss the
usefulness and applicability of these models in business today, and whether other contemporary
models should be applied when exploring strategies for analysis.
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT
In my readings for this critique, I learned Strategic Management has been difficult to define by both
Academics and Scholars alike. The Strategic Management Journal article, What is Strategic
Management, Really? references John Wiley as stating in part, Strategic Management is fragmented
and lacking a coherent identity , which is paradoxically at odds with ... Show more content on

OPPORTUNITIES
Are there current gaps in the market?
Innovation?
Are there political, economic, social or technological changes that could be favourable for you?
THREATS
What is your competition doing that could impact you?
What changes could be unfavourable to you (Political, social, economic, technology)?
What restraints eg resourcing?
EXTERNAL ASSESSMENT
SWOT is considered a widely used tool to assist an organisation understand their business activity,
both internally and externally. The intent is to not only formulate strategies that support the mission of
the organisation but to avoid weaknesses, neutralise the threats and exploit opportunities and
strengths. (Davidson et al 2009. P212). SWOT provides the guidelines for critically assessing what
you re doing right, what you re doing wrong, who or what can take you down, and what you can do to
get and stay ahead of the pack.
The internal factors relate to the organisation s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. competency, and
competitive viability. An internal analysis using the data generated by SWOT will assist in the
development of planning objectives to grow and sustain a business. An analysis of the strength and
competency would include technology and equipment to accomplish work, which would then support
the brand identity, expertise, and resources of the business. The weaknesses are the opposite poor
technology, lack of expertise or deficient in assets. Once these deficiencies are revealed, the

African American Music And Its Impact On African Americans
Music in the 1900 s had meaning , music was how African Americans got through a long working day
. Music then was something that no man could take away . That still applies to the 21st century music ,
back onto the 1900 s African Americans were not given the same privileges as they are today . Music
was the less threatening way for African Americans to get there point across . The music was not
always about them wanting equality , there was loving songs , upbeat songs , songs about what they
are doing . There were always those songs that would get a person in there feelings . The music that
tells a person life story on what all they may have been through . Most the listeners were African
American which is good , then there may have been some white but not many . African American
music to some was not as important to them as to others . The African American music has evolved
from the 1900 s to now , also the amount of people that listen to African American music has also
evolved . At a farm in Mississippi is an example of how African Americans used music to get through
a hard working day . Music while working usually help the time go by faster . The music in which was
sung in the fields or in the cabins for entertainment later became known as The Blues . Blues music is
usually written from the heart it is an emotional genre of music , the lyrics or the feeling in the blues
comes from a place in someone that may be hurting or struggling . But the blues are unique to the

Songs Analysis Essay
The three most downloaded songs from each of Taylor Swift s six albums, a total of 18 songs, will be
coded to identify the most commonly expressed themes that fans are likely to internalize. In order to
determine the top songs, sample selections were crosschecked between various music services
(iTunes, Billboard, VEVO, Spotify). Songs under analysis include: Taylor Swift (2006): Our Song,
Picture to Burn, and Teardrops on my Guitar Fearless (2008): Love Story, You Belong With Me, and
White Horse Speak Now (2010): Mean, Back to December, and Mine Red (2012): I Knew You Were
Trouble, 22, and We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together 1989 (2014): Shake It Off, Blank Space,
and Style reputation (2017): ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The prominence of specific themes will be noted per song and then evaluated across all six albums.
By doing so, coders can locate the overarching themes expressed through Taylor Swift s music, as
they are more likely to be acquired by her fans. Only the themes that are explicitly and clearly
portrayed will be coded, in order to avoid over counting. Coder Training and Reliability Testing The
sample will be analyzed by two coders to check for reliability. Qualitative Content Analysis In order to
locate the expected themes for later coding, a preliminary qualitative content analysis was performed
of the 18 songs in the sample. One coder examined each song at the expression level in order to
identify the commonly expressed themes, as well as analyze the level of dominance per each
expression. This process constructed a list of themes, which were then ranked based on prominence
throughout Swift s six albums. The following measures were located: bad break up/revenge, one and
only/soul mates, secrecy/intimacy, fairytale romance/idealization of the perfect relationship, on again
off again relationship, romanticizing of the bad boy trope, crazy ex girlfriend, girl power/feminism,
unrequited love, and reckless adolescent

The Localization Of Proteins Inside Cells
Introduction Microscopy is the most extensively used imaging technique to discover biological
systems, in which immunocytochemistry (ICC), the localization of proteins inside cells, and
immunohistochemistry (IHC), which discloses the distribution, profusion, and localization of
biomarkers within a tissue, can be observed directly. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) mentions to the
process of detecting antigens in cells of a tissue section by exploiting the principle of antibodies
binding specifically to antigens in biological tissues With IHC, tissues are removed from the patient
either frozen or chemically well preserved and fixed in paraffin. Segments as thin as 4μm are sliced

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is one of the most common causes of sexually transmitted disease
in both men and women around the world, especially in developing countries, where the occurrence of
asymptomatic infection varies from 2 to 44%, depending on the population and studied region. Most
HPV infection is transient and some studies show that the majority of sexually active individuals are
exposed to and acquire infection from this virus at some phase in their lives. HPV infection is more
prevalent in young adults, at the beginning of their sexual activity, which is more important to detect
the virus at the early edge to prevent from the most damages in the later of life that leads to less
impact in the economy in their country and family too. with a subsequent decline in the prevalence
rate with increasing age, likely as a result of development of an immune response against the virus and
reduction of sexual activity. At a molecular level, HPV positive squamous cell carcinoma less
frequently harbours gross chromosomal deletions than HPV negative squamous cell carcinoma, and
has a unique molecular signature characterized by overexpression of the tumour suppressor protein
(p16) and infrequent TP53 mutations or EGFR amplification, these molecular markers (p16)
overexpression is of particular importance as it has emerged as robust surrogate biomarker of HPV
related oropharyngeal squamous cell

Disneyland Motivation Statement
The reason why I am interested in developing a career with Hong Kong Disneyland is that Disneyland
is one of the famous theme park in the world. I believe working in Disneyland can broaden my
horizon and expand my social network. Most importantly, Hong Kong Disneyland has the passion to
become the best theme park. As a newspaper reports, Hong Kong Disneyland will launch an
expansion plan, including building new theme areas and new amusement facilities for Marvel Super
heroes. With this new theme areas and new amusement facilities, I believe Hong Kong Disneyland
will obtain great support in Chinese market. Also, I think Hong Kong Disneyland will become more
attractive and famous in the future since the Disneyland company has owned the 21st century fox. By
owning the 21st century fox, Disneyland company has the copyright of many new characters, which
makes Hong Kong Disneyland able to build more theme areas, such as deadpool s theme area, alien s
theme area, or x men s theme area. With the copyright of the new characters, I believe Hong Kong
Disneyland has a broad development space in the future. Therefore, I want to join Hong Kong
Disneyland.

U.s. School Military Leadership
In recent years women in the United States have been making advancements in leadership roles. One
place that women, in the past, had not been able to take on more power is the military. In just the past
few years women have been allowed to serve in combat roles, however little advancements have been
made for them to serve in special operation forces. In just the last few weeks some this has been
questioned as two women are about to graduate from ranger school. Having women graduating from
ranger school, a grueling leadership course in the military, shows advancements women are making in
leadership roles today. The fact that these two women have been able to make it to graduation at an
elite military leadership course is huge. This is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However there are still many obstacles for female advancements. While these two women were able to
graduate from the ranger program, according to military rules, even though they have completed the
ranger program they are not allowed to try out or serve on the ranger regiment (Oppel). This shows the
heavy divide in female to male leadership roles. Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female
soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher
leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to
decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have
already taken on. They are setting the way for other women to make advancements in all fields.
Women have been taking on more responsibility in the military as time has moved on. They have
served our nation in combat and some have even been a part of support teams to help Ranger and
Navy SEALS in the past. According to Oppel, some women even perform intelligence gathering as
part of SEAL Team 6 s top secret Black Squadron. This shows that women have been a vital part of
military victories for years. One commander mentioned in Oppel piece in defense of women is
Colonel Fivecoat. He said that he would always make sure two women would be assigned to his
company.

Essay about Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism
Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism
Throughout the history of man, philosophers have tried to come up with an explanation of where our
minds, or consciousness, came from and how we are able to have a nonphysical characteristic of
ourselves. Does our physical brain automatically give us nonphysical characteristics like feelings,
thoughts, and desires or is there something else there, the mind, that interacts with our bodies and
makes us feel, think, and desire? Also, is the mind the only nonphysical entity in our universe or do
other entities exist such as ghosts or souls? One man came up with a theory to explain the two
different properties in our universe in which he called Dualism. Hopefully with his theory of ... Show

Therefore, humans are composed of two types of substance: physical and nonphysical.
According to Descartes, our minds and bodies causally interact with one another almost all of the
time. Meaning that events and states in our mind can cause physical events in our bodies and vice
versa. For example, a tack puncturing your foot (a physical event) causes you to feel pain (a mental
event) and causes you to say ouch, (a physical event)
(Barcalow, pg. 72). As a result, the term Interactionism was used to explain the relation between the
physical and mental. Descartes theory of Substance Dualism was his best way of explaining human
life and how our minds are able to interact with our bodies. Of course, not everyone is going to agree
with Descartes theory. There are many objections one can make about Substance Dualism, but mainly
there are three. First of all, some believe causal interaction between the body and mind is a physical
phenomenon. For example, throwing a baseball is the result of one s arm being swung back in a
smooth motion and using force to release the ball (science has proven that force is physical). What
caused the arm to throw the baseball? The muscles in the arm contracted, thus the arm raised. The
electrical impulses that originated in the brain told the arm to throw the ball. Some people

Ap Psychology Case Study Essay
1. Joe has schizoid personality disorder. Like many with schizoid personality, Jose does not seem
inclined to feel the need to interact with people. It is not because of paranoia, but because these people
genuinely like to be alone and don t show many emotions. To help Joe one could recommend
cognitive behavioral and group therapy. Cognitive side of the therapy would consist of talking to Jose
about his feelings. Especially focusing on any positive feelings that he can remember. The behavioral
part would be teaching Jose social skills by role playing or exposure techniques.
2. Lorraine seems to have borderline personality disorder. Lorraine has unstable moods that can lead
to great impulsivity. Borderline personalities are known to have impulses that lead to self destructive
behavior. These impulses lead her to rash decisions like drunk driving and sleeping with strangers.
One of the ways Lorraine could have developed this disorder is because of her parents.
Psychodynamic theorists claim that having unaccepting parents can lead to low self esteem and
dependence. To treat this PD one can suggest is dialectical behavior therapy. DBT consists of ... Show

Dual Diagnosis Paper
Creating a plan and executing each step of the plan might sound simple to do, but for many
individuals, many of them must have the next step of maintenance just in case they deviate from the
plan (Miller Rollnick, 2002). Maintenance is the next step in change in which the individual must
either maintain their steps in change or relapse and change their ways (Miller Rollnick, 2002). This
step is also the last step and the longest step for individuals in which finishing this step might take up
to months or even years to accomplish (Miller Rollnick, 2002). Also in this step the individuals might
relapse and go back to their previous ways in which at that time the clients would want to know why
they relapsed or ways to prevent it (Miller ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Dual diagnosis will almost consist of three prevalent characteristics such as substance abuse, several
metal illnesses and proper treatment (Drake, 2007). In addition, dual diagnosis also allows clients and
doctors to discover further new knowledge specifically of dual diagnosis such as the most exposed to
different individuals who are dual diagnosed the better treatment the doctor can provide (Werner
Stawski, 2012). Furthermore the more knowledgeable the doctors are at treating individuals whom are
dual diagnosed the better they are to provide their clients with the eight to nine stages (depending on
the individual) of change (Miller Rollnick, 2002). However, with all of this new knowledge, there are
issues that pertain to dual diagnosis, which is that having a typecast on the individuals will cause the
doctor to provide worse treatment as if they didn t have an opinion of those clients (Werner, 2012). In
addition, there must be work done on treating children who are dual diagnosed since many doctors
don t even know that children can be dual diagnosed and treated just like adults (Jamie Knowlton,
2007). Therefore, in the spectrum of dual diagnosis, there are endless amount of information to help us
to become more knowledgeable but it is not until we are attaining firsthand experience that we can
fully be able to help in dual

The And Of The Basement
We decided to have Timmy open the door. That way, if the undead occupant of the basement was
actually at the top of the stairs, we would be, hopefully, able to bring one or both of our weapons to
bear. We hoped to push the zombie down the stairwell; and, if we were lucky, that would create the
necessary trauma to the brain area to cause permanent death. The needs of the many outweigh the
needs of the few, said Tim stoically with a knowing grin. Or the one, added Dean. I had no idea what
they were talking about. As the door swung out, we lunged into the breach. The stairs before us were
empty. We could hear muffled sounds from the kitchen. Here zombie, zombie, zombie... Dean called

The zombie flew out and away, then connected with the steps. Bouncing off the step treads, it rolled
from back to neck to head as the being flipped down the stairs. We kept our distance, not wanting to
rush in, but content to wait and see the outcome of the fall. When the beast came to rest at the bottom
of the steps, we could clearly see, by the odd direction his neck bent, that he was going to stay dead
this time. Dean fearlessly took the lead once again, his descent slowing as he neared the bottom.
Gingerly, he avoided the crumpled heap of the zombie at the base of the stairs., taking great pains to
tiptoe around the leg that angled out, blocking the path. As I mirrored his movements, I could clearly
see where Dean had shot the now still undead. The bullet had definitely struck it in the head, but it
was more a glancing blow, enough to make it drop but obviously not enough to keep it down. We
made our way to the kitchen and began rifling through the cupboards, sometimes slipping on the
debris the undead had knocked on the floor. We avoided the blood splattered areas from the zombie s
earlier head wound, searching only the untainted storage areas, not wanting to take any risks with
whatever contamination caused this outbreak. Most of the cupboards were empty. The few that held
anything at all were mostly pots, pans, paper products and empty plastic

The Present Day College Admission Marketplace
The present day college admission marketplace in the United States is part of an extensive historical
evolution. In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit industry led to the
first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The subsequent
professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen
institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants
(Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the release of the first U.S. News World Report rankings in 1983
(Morse, 2008), public perception of college admission significantly shifted and colleges began to
adopt widespread enrollment management ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the
other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the
basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic
philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on
their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches,
meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward
for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as
resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students
based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include
the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and
nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002).
These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s
circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. The final philosophical model evaluates
students based on their ability to contribute to the institution and society if admitted, both in the short
run and long run. In the short run,

The Growing Trend of Sex and Violence in Media Today...
Modern day society is composed of rules and structures. The general public has become much more
sensitive over the years, resulting in a very politically correct atmosphere. Moreover, parents have
decided that the opportune way of reaching their ambitions is through the lives of their children.
Under this strict lifestyle, one would presume that our values are very conservative. Surprisingly, the
opposite is true. Due to the sexual and violent permissiveness in today s Multi Media, our society has
developed a sordid standard of morals. Sex is often considered to be taboo among families. Parents do
not want to believe that their children are aware of it, and vice versa. While the family is living in a
state of denial, the media is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Media boardrooms have become corporate playgrounds which consistently intensify the raciness of its
images and videos to maintain the shock value of sex. Consequently, all forms of sex have become
increasingly acceptable. It is no longer considered taboo to perform sexual acts soon after meeting an
individual. Sex was once restricted to married couples, but even pre teenage children have lost their
innocence. Due to its unspoken nature within families, parents are often unaware of their child
s/children s sexual activity. Only exposed to the attractive side of sex conveyed by the media, children
do not receive appropriate education, resulting in teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted
diseases. The saturation of sexual messages by the media would lead an outsider to believe that we are
very permissive of sexual behaviour, yet the very opposite is taught at the family level. Violence in
society has suffered a similar fate. We are taught from a very young age that violence is wrong. We are
all aware that instead of hitting people, we should resolve our problems through conversation,
violence is never the answer. If this is common knowledge, why does our society have so much
violence? Unfortunately, this can also be blamed on the media. Parents teach their children that
violence is inappropriate, but the media implies that it is acceptable. Some of today s most popular

Concert Review Moores Opera House
For my second concert review, I attended the Wind Ensemble in the Moores Opera House. The
previous concert was somewhat disappointing because there were one or two performers who did not
meet my expectations (i.e. squeaking on the saxophone, failing to play a note, etc.). Hence, I did not
have many expectations for this concert either. Both performances occurred in the same venue,
however, this time there were some brass performing off stage. The majority of the instruments on
stage were woodwinds (flute, oboe, clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone), percussion/piano,
string (bass and harp), and several brass members (trumpet, French horn, trombone, euphonium, and
tuba) that were both on and off stage. The conductor was on stage, like in a traditional orchestral
setting, communicating with the performers through hand gestures and occasionally pointing.
Performers would switch out, when necessary, as the conductor introduced the next piece or sit ...

musical expression is critical in understanding the meaning of various pieces. Students can then build
on what they ve learned to interpret what each artist is trying to depict in their songs i.e. their tone,
feelings, etc. towards the subject of the piece. In addition, lesson plans may tie the interpretations of
the piece to historical movements or current events ongoing now. Upon having a previous concert

Ford Motor Company is the second largest automobile company in the world. Ford s main focus is
automobiles; however, they also operate in Ford Credit and Hertz Corporation. Ford also has

differences between U.S, and Japanese accounting practices as well as the management accounting

the organizational context and the goals that are to be achieved.
United States companies such as Ford Motor Company tend to put more emphasis on manufacturing

the success and innovation of the products that are introduced. The accounting system used by the two

the bottom line which is where the final numbers are clear. Some feel as though to further shed light

Mansfield Crisis Manual Analysis
The Mansfield Crisis manual was drafted in the 2012 2013 school year, prior to this draft the school
used a generic modified crisis plan that was created by J. Berra Engineering, in 1999. The current plan
has not been updated since the 2012 2013 school year; as there are still several emergency contacts
listed that no longer work in the district. Although, the layout of the manual is easily followed and the
information is pertinent, this is the first time I have ever seen this particular manual, or any emergency
manual for the district. There is a shortened version of the procedures for fire, tornado, intruder, and
earthquake drills located in the teacher and student handbooks. However, the handbooks are not as in
depth as the actual manual, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

electricity loss of telephone, broken pipes, hazardous material release, fire, and explosion. Under the
natural disasters section there are procedures for severe weather, tornado, lightning, earthquake, flood,
wildfire, and other external hazards. Each procedure outlines steps that should be taken and who
should be contacted after everyone s safety is ensured. I find it interesting that the crisis manual has an
anthrax policy, I would have never thought of adding that particular protocol. Protocols for what to do
if caught outside in a lightning storm, procedures for student and staff suicide, and a strategy
specifically for hazardous material removal are also not things I would have thought of to add to the
crisis manual, in this aspect I think the crisis team went above the normal criteria. I also think that the
school went beyond industry standards by adding locations of first aid supplies and AED devices as

The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles
In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central
themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central
message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings
and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and
extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus
and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout
Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother.
Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her
child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by
avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that
contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her
prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate,
killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and
conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered.
Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that
noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more
dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays
that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits
shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of
creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the
family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles,
Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King
position. Eteclos has claimed the

Introduction There are a variety of strategic planning models, including goals based, issues based,

issues facing the organization, strategies to address those issues, and action plans. * Organic strategic

operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have
representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these
volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the
output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we

imply major shifts in the mission statement, but indicates adding newer dimensions/nuances to the
same by evaluating: * Is the mission up to date? Does it reflect what the

Livestock Grazing Can Affect The Watershed Properties By...
Livestock grazing can affect the watershed properties by altering plant cover and by compaction of the
livestock s hooves. Reductions in the vegetation cover may: increase the impact of raindrops, decrease
soil organic matter and soil aggregates, increase surface soil crusts, and decrease water infiltration
rates [2]. These effects can cause an increase in runoff, a reduction in soil water content, and increased
erosion. The impacts of grazing can vary naturally, but it mainly depends on the area and time, due to
climate, vegetation, intensity and duration of livestock. There are few studies that have attempted to
justify the natural variations. Documentation of the power and duration of grazing has been poorly or
completely disregarded [2].
Water is one of the most important products derived from rangelands and forests. The forests and
watersheds should be viewed as watersheds and secondarily for their food, forage, wood, wildlife, and
social. Watersheds are very diverse in their natural erosion, high flooding rate behavior, and high
amounts of sediments. In some areas, plant cover and soil layers have not developed appropriately to
make an influence on how water is generated from the land. For more extensive areas, plant cover and
soil mantle have developed to exert a high degree of control on the reception and disposition of
precipitation. Low rates of erosion, normally moderate peak stream discharges, normally small
sediment loads, and optimum infiltration are the

Critique Of Practical Reason By Immanuel Kant
In Critique of Practical Reason, Immanuel Kant gives an argument for the existence of God based on
practical reason and the moral law. He argues that reason strives for the highest good, which is a
connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 89). Practical reason runs into an issue when striving
for the highest good, however, because there is no apparent connection between virtue and happiness
in the natural world, which ultimately causes us to reject the moral law (Kant 92). According to Kant,
however, we cannot reject the moral law because this would be rejecting our rationality (Kant 93).
This is because Kant believes that all rational beings must act morally and follow the moral law as a
result of reason. This leads Kant to posit the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually virtuous, according
to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not happiness (Kant 92). However, we also
cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness because we do not experience the connection between
virtue and happiness (Kant 92). This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning
that he thinks that we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since
we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if there is
actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem of having to assume
that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law because we are natural beings, in
that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the
moral law is not an option, however, because, by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity,
since he believes that morality stems from human reason (Kant 93). Therefore, there must be a
connection between virtue and happiness so that we do not have to reject the moral law. This
connection must be made because it would not be rational to strive for the highest good if it was not
possible to do so, and this is what makes it

Ralph Waldo Emerson s Nature
In Ralph Waldo Emerson s Nature and my own personal experiences, we both discover the sublime in
moments of silence and engagement with nature. These events in which we cannot fully describe in
words but just appreciate the beauty are the sublime, and nature, which Emerson and I encounter,
operates as an extension of God. In the beginning of Nature, Emerson demands that people find their
own relationship with the universe, and I never really had a personal encounter with God even though
I went to Catholic school my whole life. As Emerson progresses to his thesis and depicts his
enjoyment of nature through silence, I remembered my experience with the relic of the True Cross and

He enjoys the surrounding landscape and exchange with God: My head bathed by the blithe air and

surrounding him. Instead, he turns into a transparent eye ball and experiences the sublime by
permitting nature to trigger an emotional response in him. In a similar experience in middle school,
my teacher told the class that the relic of the True Cross was coming to our school. When the class
headed over to the chapel, I developed a plan of saying my memorized prayers. As soon as I kneeled
in front of the relic, I found myself at a loss for words and felt an intimate connection with God.
Throughout my whole experience with the Cross, I remained silent and did not feel distracted by the
many people in the room with me. I realize now that this sublime connection with God developed a
truth within me that silence and listening to nature s responses to me were the best way to pray for me
and to clear my mind of stress. Both Emerson and my points about silence do not mean that everyone
should pray and reflect without words but rather to discover one s personal truth by clearing his or her
mind of distractions. This experience created my freedom a removal of distant, indifferent words to
me and a creation of peace and beautiful reflection in

Tao-Te Ching
Summary The Tao te Ching is an exemplary work of Chinese philosophy that talks about good
government and moral behavior. Although the author of the Tao te Ching is unknown, the earliest texts
attribute the work to Lao tzu (sixth century B.C.E.),whose name can be translated to Old Master.
However, nothing can be said with certainty about the historical figure. The writings of Tao te Ching
are considered the basis for Taoism, confucianism, and Buddhism. The term Tao refers to the art of
living, embracing an inscrutable, eternal Way (Tao). The Tao te Ching represents the creative forces of
the universe and frequently uses the imagery of the womb, and the shakti or the female principle ...

81 numbered stanzas of varying lengths which is in the form of poetry. The text supports variety of

and wealth. According to Lao tzu, these weigh down the soul, which is contrary to its goal of realizing
the highest truth. His anti materialistic belief extends in his advices to the politicians of his times, to
be silent observers, and to intercede only when it is essential, and then also unobtrusively. The Master
acts and teaches without doing or speaking, lets things happen, knows when to let go, neither
possesses nor expects. Lao s political philosophy undoubtedly minimizes the power of the state.
Moreover, there is definitely no room for aggression, and asserts that the good and wise leader will
provide the people with what they need and not annoy them with promises of what they do not need.
Lao tzu believes that the leader allows the people to achieve good things for themselves by keeping
people unawares that they are being ruled. He believed that one can be a good leader only when one
learns to follow the Tao. He remarks that the eternal way is the

Lucentio imitates the sort of tranquil, poetical view of love that Petruchio s inevitability dismisses.
Lucentio is hit by love for Bianca at first sight, says that he will die if he cannot win her heart, and
subsequently puts into motion a romantic and fanciful plan to do so. Whereas love in the play is often
mitigated by economic and social concerns. The difference between Lucentio and Petruchio
discriminates The Taming of the Shrew from other Elizabethan plays. Through Lucentio and Bianca,
the play looks beyond the moment when the quixotic lovers are wed and represents the penalties of the
costumes and stratagems they have attractively employed to expedite their romance. Once the
practical business of being married begins, Lucentio s fixation with courtly love seems somewhat old
fashioned and ludicrous. In the end, it is Petruchio s disturbing, colorful uncomplicatedness that
harvests a happy and functioning marriage, and Lucentio s poeticized instincts leave him humiliated
when Bianca refuses to answer his summons. Love certainly exists in the world of The Taming of the
Shrew, but Lucentio s dramatic love, striking however it is, appears incapable to survive with the full
range of problems and considerations facing married

The Coward In Act Of Solitude By Joyce Carol Oates
A coward is defined as someone who lacks the courage to take action, a person who is unwilling to do
anything unpleasant. A coward refuses to stand up for what is right or what is good because they are
afraid of the consequences, they are afraid that they themselves will be hindered because of their
actions. In Act of Solitude by Joyce Carol Oates, Chester Jensen exemplifies a man lacking courage.
He is a man unwilling to do the right thing or do anything at all because he is afraid of the
consequences. One instance in which Chester illustrates his cowardice nature is through his
relationship with his wife, Diane. Chester remarks that he does not love anyone, and yet, at the same
time he loves Diane, or so he says. He and Diane were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It is evident Chester is a coward when Joyce Carol Oates dictates, He pressed his foot down on the
accelerator, hard, not knowing or caring if the intersection was clear of traffic, and the car leapt
forward, and there was muffled outcry, and the heavy thud of the black man s body against the fender,
then against the door, and then tires skidded on the wet pavement and squealed, but held; and next
thing he knew, Chester was a half block away, seeing, blurred in the rearview mirror, the black man s
body spiraled motionless in the street. He kept going, he didn t look back (8). Chester never stops to
look back and see if the man is merely injured or if he is dead, he never calls the police; rather, he
continues driving on. In fact, instead of admitting to mistake he made Chester projects blame on the
black man and the police He provoked me, I lost control. He taunted me. Rubbing that filthy rag in my
face. The police don t protect us, they ve abrogated all responsibility. I didn t realize he was standing
so close. I didn t realize I would hit him (8). These actions are the actions of a coward. Instead of
confessing to the crime he commits, Chester eventually returns to the scene of the crime and performs
penance by handing out money to beggars just like the one he ran over. He does this in order to ease
his conscience without fully having to pay the price, something a coward

Creativity And The Mad Genius
Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head. Seventy one
years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat
field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van
Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest
creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from
other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic
disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his
paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway
was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the
most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that
each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine
arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all
they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts
about depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas
concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these negative

The Rule of the Major Generals
The Major General rule was an idea by Cromwell to help reduce the threat of royalist conspiracy and
to help further his need for healing and settling . However, the rule lasted less than a year due its
unpopularity and lack of support from the local gentry. In addition, the Major Generals themselves
were either inconsistent in their application of the aims or were negligent in their duties. Furthermore,
the unrealistic aims of the rule set them up for failure before the rule had even begun, historian Farr
comments on the limits of the generals power and the fact that it s no wonder the rule failed as the
scope of the tasks were impossible to fulfil.
Whilst all of these factors play a part in the failure of the Major Generals rule, the most significant is
its negligence by the Major Generals themselves. Its unpopularity and unrealistic aims could have
been overcome if every generals was both optimistic about their role and fully committed to the cause.
The lack of responsibility of the Major Generals led to the public not thinking they could support the
rule, and rather than help the rule, cause its demise. Farr further suggests that it was its practical
failure, rather than alleged unpopularity which led to the rule failing. However, Sharp explains that the
establishment of the Major Generals did more to alienate the gentry than any other move and in terms
on of healing and settling , it was a disaster.
The rule of the Major Generals was not popular, the gentry deeply

Abc Corporation s Management Plan
Introduction I conducted my research based on a company for which I am familiar with but do not
work for. ABC Corporation is based out of Anywhere Town, KS. ABC Corporation actually bids on
government, Department of Defense (DoD), contracts and if accepted is awarded the contract as the
either the Prime or Subcontractor on the military installations. As the Prime or Subcontractor, ABC
Corporation, has no policies and procedures in place when they are awarded the contract. Those
policies and procedures are actually built into the contract that the installation awards such as Contract
shall meet the requirements of ISO 9001 2008 for all contracted services (Plan A, 2015) . There is no
mandate in place that requires that ABC have an integrated management system. ABC s approach is
that a structured system is in place to ensure that the contractual requirements that the government has
set forth are met and to continually improve the effectiveness of the Quality System.
Methodology
Evaluation of Policies, Procedures and Plans:
Management Plan ABC s Management Plan for the military installations has one main objective
which is To ensure that the customer receives the best possible support with the highest possible
quality, in the best possible time, and that the support is accomplished safely (Plan A, 2015). ABC s
Quality Control (QC) section has the responsibility to certify the military installation s contract as ISO
9001 2008 which comes from contractual requirements and is

Aqueducts In Rome Research Paper
Rome had an efficient water system, aqueducts, that helped get water to everyone that needed it. The
aqueducts were 260 miles long, traveling across Rome, to reservoirs where it would be stored. It was
built, so that no one ever needed to worry about water shortage, and it worked as it was supposed to.
This structure was built in 312 B.C.E. Appius Claudius Caecus built this magnificent, astonishing,
water supplying Aqueduct.
Rome had a good army in addition to its extraordinary aqueducts.. There were about 160,000 people
in the Roman army. They conquered current day France, England, Spain, Greece, the Middle

Family Tree Flake Research Paper
The ability to make and use tools dates back millions of years in our family tree. Chimpanzees, our
closest living relatives, can on their own devise spear like weapons for hunting and create specialized
tool kits for foraging ants, suggesting our family tree may have possessed wooden tools since the
ancestors of humans and chimps diverged some 4 million years ago.
The dawn of stone tools dates back some 2.6 million years to Gona in Ethiopia. Known as the
Oldowan, these include not just fist sized hunks of rock for pounding, but also the first known
manufacture of stone tools sharp flakes created by knapping, or striking a hard stone against quartz,
obsidian, flint or any other rock whose flakes can hold an edge. At this time are also the oldest known
butchered animal bones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This was the extent of the technology for nearly a million years. It was probably very ad hoc when
you needed a stone tool and you didn t have one, just made one, then dropped it, said
paleoanthropologist Thomas Wynn at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.
Such technology is just slightly past the range of what apes generally do, Wynn added. Indeed,
chimpanzees in the wild can use stones as simple tools for hammering, and the chimpanzee like
bonobo ape can even be taught how to flake stone to make cutting tools. These don t seem to represent
any great intellectual leap, he

Class Conflict, By George Orwell And Mockingjay, And Joon...
Class conflict is a recurring theme in many popular apocalyptic and dystopian works. Whether a
conflict with the state or with other classes, class conflict is the driving force for many works in this
genre. This is evident through the depiction of power hungry classes inclination to control others in
favor of society wide improvement. The type of class conflict seen in these works is present in our
world today. Events such as the Ferguson protests and the Occupy Wall Street movement have
precipitated violence and struggle of the oppressed at the hands of powerful and inherently evil forces.
While class conflict is a resounding theme among numerous popular apocalyptic and dystopian works,
I believe it is best portrayed in Orwell s 1984, Collins Mockingjay, and Joon ho s Snowpiercer. Not
only do these works present the different forms of class conflict that take place in apocalyptic and
dystopian settings, but they also help define the cultural significance of class conflict seen in our
society. In 1984, a class conflict exists between the majority of the undermined population and the
state. The society is divided into three distinct classes: the proles, who represent the working class
proletariat, the Outer Party, which consist of the middle class of Oceania, and the Inner Party, which
regulates the Ministries, Thought Police, and forces Ingsoc ideology on all the citizens. The classes are
partitioned by the Inner Party in such a manner that members of the lower

This critique will discuss the two business strategic analysis models of SWOT and Porters 5 Forces, with a view to further understanding their application in Strategic Management. I will discuss the usefulness and applicability of these models in business today, and whether other contemporary models should be applied when exploring strategies for analysis. STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT In my readings for this critique, I learned Strategic Management has been difficult to define by both Academics and Scholars alike. The Strategic Management Journal article, What is Strategic Management, Really? references John Wiley as stating in part, Strategic Management is fragmented and lacking a coherent identity , which is paradoxically at odds with ... The intent is to not only formulate strategies that support the mission of the organisation but to avoid weaknesses, neutralise the threats and exploit opportunities and strengths. SWOT provides the guidelines for critically assessing what you re doing right, what you re doing wrong, who or what can take you down, and what you can do to get and stay ahead of the pack. The internal factors relate to the organisation s strengths and weaknesses, i.e. competency, and competitive viability. An internal analysis using the data generated by SWOT will assist in the development of planning objectives to grow and sustain a business. An analysis of the strength and competency would include technology and equipment to accomplish work, which would then support the brand identity, expertise, and resources of the business. Music then was something that no man could take away . That still applies to the 21st century music , back onto the 1900 s African Americans were not given the same privileges as they are today . There were always those songs that would get a person in there feelings . The music that tells a person life story on what all they may have been through . Despite the heavy restrictions placed on female soldiers this new development may be just what is needed to allow women to have a place in higher leadership roles. According to Oppel the Army and other branches of service have until January 1st to decide what jobs are going to be open to women. This shows the leading role these women have already taken on. • 9. Essay about Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism Descartes Theory of Substance Dualism Throughout the history of man, philosophers have tried to come up with an explanation of where our minds, or consciousness, came from and how we are able to have a nonphysical characteristic of ourselves. Does our physical brain automatically give us nonphysical characteristics like feelings, thoughts, and desires or is there something else there, the mind, that interacts with our bodies and makes us feel, think, and desire? Also, is the mind the only nonphysical entity in our universe or do other entities exist such as ghosts or souls? Therefore, humans are composed of two types of substance: physical and nonphysical. According to Descartes, our minds and bodies causally interact with one another almost all of the time. Meaning that events and states in our mind can cause physical events in our bodies and vice versa. For example, a tack puncturing your foot (a physical event) causes you to feel pain (a mental event) and causes you to say ouch, (a physical event) (Barcalow, pg. 72). As a result, the term Interactionism was used to explain the relation between the physical and mental. Descartes theory of Substance Dualism was his best way of explaining human life and how our minds are able to interact with our bodies. Of course, not everyone is going to agree with Descartes theory. There are many objections one can make about Substance Dualism, but mainly there are three. First of all, some believe causal interaction between the body and mind is a physical phenomenon. For example, throwing a baseball is the result of one s arm being swung back in a smooth motion and using force to release the ball (science has proven that force is physical). What caused the arm to throw the baseball? The muscles in the arm contracted, thus the arm raised. The electrical impulses that originated in the brain told the arm to throw the ball. Some people ... Maintenance is the next step in change in which the individual must either maintain their steps in change or relapse and change their ways (Miller Rollnick, 2002). This step is also the last step and the longest step for individuals in which finishing this step might take up to months or even years to accomplish (Miller Rollnick, 2002). In the 1920s, broadened public interest and the burgeoning of the credit industry led to the first waves of democratization in the higher education arena (Kimball, 2011). The subsequent professionalization and a growing pattern of stratification in the admissions marketplace have seen institutions of all types using increasingly sophisticated mechanisms to attract qualified applicants (Duffy and Goldberg, 1998). With the exception of the eligibility based model which champions entitlement and open access , the other three models are selective in nature in that students are compared against one another on the basis of certain criteria before an admissions decision is made. The most common and basic philosophy adopted by institutions is the performance based model, which judges applicants based on their demonstrated performance prior to college. This model is advanced through two approaches, meritocracy and character. The meritocracy approach views acceptance into an institution as a reward for prior academic achievement, while the character approach focuses on personal qualities such as resilience and civic virtue (the College Board, 2002). In addition, many colleges also assess students based on their ability to benefit from higher education. The two approaches under this theme include the enhancement approach and the mobilization approach. The former is intended to identify and nurture talent while the latter promotes social and economic mobility (the College Board, 2002). These approaches attempt to contextualize previous accomplishments in light of the student s circumstances and accord value to unrealized potential. Sex was once restricted to married couples, but even pre teenage children have lost their innocence. Due to its unspoken nature within families, parents are often unaware of their child s/children s sexual activity. The saturation of sexual messages by the media would lead an outsider to believe that we are very permissive of sexual behaviour, yet the very opposite is taught at the family level. Violence in society has suffered a similar fate. We are taught from a very young age that violence is wrong. We are all aware that instead of hitting people, we should resolve our problems through conversation, violence is never the answer. • 21. The Theme Of Family Relationships In Oedipus Rex By Sophocles In the trilogy of Oedipus, Sophocles constructed an enthralling family dynamic that induces central themes throughout the play. In numerous works of literature, family relationships engage in the central message of a piece of work. In Sophocles three plays, specifically interconnection between siblings and parent relationships create, refines, and complicates themes of power, love family, pride, and extreme fate. Starting with Sophocles primary play, Oedipus Rex, the relationship between Oedipus and his parents support the works theme of fate and pride. Through antecedent action told throughout Oedipus Rex, Oedipus received a prophecy that he would kill his father and sleep with his mother. Jocasta, his biological mother additionally received a prophecy long before Oedipus pronouncing her child to kill her husband. Both, Jocasta and Oedipus recall that they can outsmart the prophecies by avoiding the fate in which they write. With extreme pride that they carry out avoidance plans that contribute to the plot and irony of Sophocles work. Jocasta sentenced her son to death to avoid her prophecy. Oedipus ran from his perceived real parents, from Corinth to Thebes to avoid his fate, killing a stranger on the way to the new kingdom. Eventually, Oedipus and Jocasta get married and conceive children together providing accuracy to their fate later when all mysterious are discovered. Their relationships shows that the Gods are beyond their control, even though with their hubris that noted they could get out of it. The family relationship aspect of Oedipus Rex, situation adds more dramatized plot to Sophocles work. Faith in the trilogies is a concept in all of Sophocles three plays that can unarguably be avoided, Oedipus and Jocasta having the same thought process and traits shows a son and mother relationships. Jocasta and Oedipus marrying one another is Sophocles way of creating the irony for viewers of the play. In addition to parent relations, in, Oedipus at Colonus, the family relationship of siblings shows the aspects of pride, power, and loyalty. Polynices and Eteocles, Oedipus sons/brothers are at conflict with one another, both wanting the loyal power of the King position. Eteclos has claimed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Typically, for a NPO what is also important is that who writes the mission statement. Considering only senior management or executives could be one answer, but I believe that since a NPO does most of its operational work largely through volunteers and less through employees, it becomes important to have representation of this constituency as well. The closer the mission statement is to what these volunteers considers is important for their end customers, the more likely is the high quality of the output and easier to continue recruiting volunteers. However, since many of the large NPO that we know and will discuss in this paper have been existing for decades, it also makes sense to evaluate mission statements in the context of emerging needs of the customers every 20 30 years. • 24. Livestock Grazing Can Affect The Watershed Properties By... Livestock grazing can affect the watershed properties by altering plant cover and by compaction of the livestock s hooves. Reductions in the vegetation cover may: increase the impact of raindrops, decrease soil organic matter and soil aggregates, increase surface soil crusts, and decrease water infiltration rates [2]. These effects can cause an increase in runoff, a reduction in soil water content, and increased erosion. The impacts of grazing can vary naturally, but it mainly depends on the area and time, due to climate, vegetation, intensity and duration of livestock. There are few studies that have attempted to justify the natural variations. Documentation of the power and duration of grazing has been poorly or completely disregarded [2]. Water is one of the most important products derived from rangelands and forests. The forests and watersheds should be viewed as watersheds and secondarily for their food, forage, wood, wildlife, and social. Watersheds are very diverse in their natural erosion, high flooding rate behavior, and high amounts of sediments. In some areas, plant cover and soil layers have not developed appropriately to make an influence on how water is generated from the land. For more extensive areas, plant cover and soil mantle have developed to exert a high degree of control on the reception and disposition of precipitation. Low rates of erosion, normally moderate peak stream discharges, normally small sediment loads, and optimum infiltration are the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 25. Critique Of Practical Reason By Immanuel Kant In Critique of Practical Reason, Immanuel Kant gives an argument for the existence of God based on practical reason and the moral law. He argues that reason strives for the highest good, which is a connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 89). Practical reason runs into an issue when striving for the highest good, however, because there is no apparent connection between virtue and happiness in the natural world, which ultimately causes us to reject the moral law (Kant 92). According to Kant, however, we cannot reject the moral law because this would be rejecting our rationality (Kant 93). This is because Kant believes that all rational beings must act morally and follow the moral law as a result of reason. This leads Kant to posit the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When we strive for happiness to try to achieve virtue, our actions are not actually virtuous, according to Kant, because virtue must come from striving for duty, not happiness (Kant 92). However, we also cannot strive for virtue to attain happiness because we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness (Kant 92). This is a problem because Kant is a transcendental idealist, meaning that he thinks that we are limited to objects of experience in what we can have knowledge of. Since we do not experience the connection between virtue and happiness, and we cannot know if there is actually a connection beyond what we can experience, we run into the problem of having to assume that there is no connection. This causes us to reject the moral law because we are natural beings, in that we cannot reject happiness, but naturally strive for it (Kant 92). Kant argues that rejecting the moral law is not an option, however, because, by doing this, we would be giving up our humanity, since he believes that morality stems from human reason (Kant 93). Therefore, there must be a connection between virtue and happiness so that we do not have to reject the moral law. This connection must be made because it would not be rational to strive for the highest good if it was not possible to do so, and this is what makes it ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Instead, he turns into a transparent eye ball and experiences the sublime by permitting nature to trigger an emotional response in him. • 39. The Coward In Act Of Solitude By Joyce Carol Oates A coward is defined as someone who lacks the courage to take action, a person who is unwilling to do anything unpleasant. A coward refuses to stand up for what is right or what is good because they are afraid of the consequences, they are afraid that they themselves will be hindered because of their actions. In Act of Solitude by Joyce Carol Oates, Chester Jensen exemplifies a man lacking courage. He is a man unwilling to do the right thing or do anything at all because he is afraid of the consequences. One instance in which Chester illustrates his cowardice nature is through his relationship with his wife, Diane. Chester remarks that he does not love anyone, and yet, at the same time he loves Diane, or so he says. He and Diane were ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It is evident Chester is a coward when Joyce Carol Oates dictates, He pressed his foot down on the accelerator, hard, not knowing or caring if the intersection was clear of traffic, and the car leapt forward, and there was muffled outcry, and the heavy thud of the black man s body against the fender, then against the door, and then tires skidded on the wet pavement and squealed, but held; and next thing he knew, Chester was a half block away, seeing, blurred in the rearview mirror, the black man s body spiraled motionless in the street. He kept going, he didn t look back (8). Chester never stops to look back and see if the man is merely injured or if he is dead, he never calls the police; rather, he continues driving on. In fact, instead of admitting to mistake he made Chester projects blame on the black man and the police He provoked me, I lost control. He taunted me. Rubbing that filthy rag in my face. The police don t protect us, they ve abrogated all responsibility. I didn t realize he was standing so close. I didn t realize I would hit him (8). These actions are the actions of a coward. Instead of confessing to the crime he commits, Chester eventually returns to the scene of the crime and performs penance by handing out money to beggars just like the one he ran over. He does this in order to ease his conscience without fully having to pay the price, something a coward ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Creativity And The Mad Genius Creativity and the Mad Genius On July 2, 1961, Ernest Hemingway put a gun to his head. Seventy one years earlier, on July 29, 1890, Vincent van Gogh shot himself in the abdomen while painting a wheat field. Robin Williams hung himself on August 24, 2014, less than two centuries after Vincent van Gogh. Along with Ludwig von Beethoven, who died of natural causes in 1827, four of the greatest creative minds each suffered from bipolar disorder, depression, or epilepsy, usually suffering from other physical ailments as well. Ernest Hemingway was the only one to seem to have a genetic disposition towards mental illness. None of these men led similar lives. Van Gogh only saw one of his paintings sold, while Beethoven was an acclaimed composer by the age of twenty nine. Hemingway was friends with some of the greatest literary minds of the day, and Robin Williams was one of the most successful comedians to date. The common link, besides their mental illnesses, is the idea that each of these men were searching for something more within their respective arts. Four fields of fine arts that require the constant creation of something new claimed the lives of four men who gave it all they had, some losing, and some finding themselves along the way. Over the past sixty years, facts about depression and the reality of it have come to light; however, there are still negative stigmas concerning the mental illness and how people ought to endure through the pain. Despite these negative ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. The Rule of the Major Generals The Major General rule was an idea by Cromwell to help reduce the threat of royalist conspiracy and to help further his need for healing and settling . However, the rule lasted less than a year due its unpopularity and lack of support from the local gentry. In addition, the Major Generals themselves were either inconsistent in their application of the aims or were negligent in their duties. Furthermore, the unrealistic aims of the rule set them up for failure before the rule had even begun, historian Farr comments on the limits of the generals power and the fact that it s no wonder the rule failed as the scope of the tasks were impossible to fulfil. Whilst all of these factors play a part in the failure of the Major Generals rule, the most significant is its negligence by the Major Generals themselves. Its unpopularity and unrealistic aims could have been overcome if every generals was both optimistic about their role and fully committed to the cause. The lack of responsibility of the Major Generals led to the public not thinking they could support the rule, and rather than help the rule, cause its demise. Farr further suggests that it was its practical failure, rather than alleged unpopularity which led to the rule failing. However, Sharp explains that the establishment of the Major Generals did more to alienate the gentry than any other move and in terms on of healing and settling , it was a disaster. The rule of the Major Generals was not popular, the gentry deeply ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. Family Tree Flake Research Paper The ability to make and use tools dates back millions of years in our family tree. Chimpanzees, our closest living relatives, can on their own devise spear like weapons for hunting and create specialized tool kits for foraging ants, suggesting our family tree may have possessed wooden tools since the ancestors of humans and chimps diverged some 4 million years ago. The dawn of stone tools dates back some 2.6 million years to Gona in Ethiopia. Known as the Oldowan, these include not just fist sized hunks of rock for pounding, but also the first known manufacture of stone tools sharp flakes created by knapping, or striking a hard stone against quartz, obsidian, flint or any other rock whose flakes can hold an edge. At this time are also the oldest known butchered animal bones. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This was the extent of the technology for nearly a million years. It was probably very ad hoc when you needed a stone tool and you didn t have one, just made one, then dropped it, said paleoanthropologist Thomas Wynn at University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. Such technology is just slightly past the range of what apes generally do, Wynn added. Indeed, chimpanzees in the wild can use stones as simple tools for hammering, and the chimpanzee like bonobo ape can even be taught how to flake stone to make cutting tools. • 45. Class Conflict, By George Orwell And Mockingjay, And Joon... Class conflict is a recurring theme in many popular apocalyptic and dystopian works. Whether a conflict with the state or with other classes, class conflict is the driving force for many works in this genre. This is evident through the depiction of power hungry classes inclination to control others in favor of society wide improvement. The type of class conflict seen in these works is present in our world today. Events such as the Ferguson protests and the Occupy Wall Street movement have precipitated violence and struggle of the oppressed at the hands of powerful and inherently evil forces. While class conflict is a resounding theme among numerous popular apocalyptic and dystopian works, I believe it is best portrayed in Orwell s 1984, Collins Mockingjay, and Joon ho s Snowpiercer. Not only do these works present the different forms of class conflict that take place in apocalyptic and dystopian settings, but they also help define the cultural significance of class conflict seen in our society. In 1984, a class conflict exists between the majority of the undermined population and the state. The society is divided into three distinct classes: the proles, who represent the working class proletariat, the Outer Party, which consist of the middle class of Oceania, and the Inner Party, which regulates the Ministries, Thought Police, and forces Ingsoc ideology on all the citizens. The classes are partitioned by the Inner Party in such a manner that members of the lower ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
