History Of Rwanda And The Genocide
HISTORY OF RWANDA AND THE GENOCIDE
It is believed that the Hutu and the Tutsi were originally one community who shared some value
culture and even religion until the colonialist announced their arrival. Rwanda has experienced a
disturbing and prolonged cycle of violent conflict since 1959. The conflict which has been
characteristically political and socio economic in nature has played out mainly on the basis of
ethnicity and regionalism. It was first German and Belgium colonialism that created and nurtured
the country s ethnic rivalry between the majority Hutu and the minority Tutsi. The rivalry was
constructed on the basis of a myth of Tutsi superiority over the Hutu in order to serve both the
colonial policy of divide and rule and the colonial division of labor. The Tutsi were designated as the
administrative supervisors and the Hutu s the labor force of the extractive colonial economy. The
1959 revolution brought the Hutu to power and ended colonialism. Unfortunately, though it
succeeded in changing the colonial socio political relations, it failed to crush the ethnic stereotypes
that continued to haunt the country (Maundi...et al, 2006:31).
Later on the Rwandan government at that time itself perpetuated the ethnic hate since its 1962
independence. The 30 years governance fought reflected the ideology of division, hate anger,
among others resulted into genocide in April 1994 leading to the death of Tutsi approximately
800,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsi lost their lives. However,

Summary Of The Robber Barons
In this chapter, Howard Zinn focuses on the robber barons and rebels of the 19th century. Robber
Barons were businessmen who often earned their wealth in dishonest and greedy ways. Favorable
laws were made by the government towards the robber barons. The government helped the rich and
didn t care much for the lower class. Great fortune was made on the transcontinental railroad and
the oil industry. Both of these companies treated their workers poorly and paid them low wages.
Corporations became very powerful by creating monopolies A system in which one corporation
controls all or most of an industry (173 Zinn). Politicians came up with the idea of communism and
socialism, economic systems that would benefit the poor. The Sherman Anti Trust

Symbolism In The White Heron
The White Heron depicts a story of a little girl who leads a life of respect and love of nature
rather than that of fortune. Early on in the story, she meets a boy who is a self proclaimed
ornithologist, a scientist that studies birds. He is willing to pay ten dollars to whomever can
show him the White Heron he had once seen. It is now up to Sylvia, the young girl, to make a
decision either in favor of the ornithologist or the white heron. Ultimately, she will be making a
decision to acquiesce to male dominance or not. The pine tree in which Sylvia climbs in order
to see the white heron up close can be represented as a symbol of life. Now she thought of the
tree with a new excitement, for why, if one climbed it at break of day, could not one see all the
world, and easily discover whence the white heron flewВ… (Jewett 466). The tree actually takes
on the characteristics of an animal, when Sylvia is climbing the tree and the twigs scratch her
with angry like talons (Jewett 466). Sylvia continues on this obstacle up and up the tree, and
continuing on towards her revelation. The birds of the forest begin to sing louder and louder as
Sylvia climbs, meaning she is coming ever so closely to the top of the tree or the climax of her
new life. She finally sees the white heron and is eager with anticipation to tell the boy of the path
to find it. Sylvia ventures home and the young ornithologist and Sylvia s grandmother are both
waiting for her. He can make them rich with money;

African Slaves And The Slave Trade
At the beginning of the fifteenth century the Atlantic slave trade was at its peak. Many believe
that only Europeans benefited from having Africans as slaves, but they are wrong. Africans of
different tribes would destroy settlements, capture the villagers, and sell them at the market as
they were a baked good at a farmer s market in today s society. Europeans and Africans both played
a major role in the slave trade and are both to blame for the capturing and selling of African slaves.
African s played a much bigger role in the Atlantic Slave tradethan the ones being enslaved. King
Affonso I was an African King who worked hand in hand with the Europeans during the slave
trade. He thought since his slaves were either criminals or Prisoners of War it was ok to have
them as slaves. When Affonso wanted to quit being part of the slave trade his reign as King
began to fall, Kongo was in disarray and the authority of its ruler greatly undermined (Stroyer,
706). Affonso started losing control when he could no longer decide what to trade and when to
trade with Portugal. Portugal took full advantage of this fall of power and traded as they pleased.
Even though King Affonso wanted to stop the slave trade he is still at fault. Almost going forty
years with capturing, buying, and selling Africans, wanting to stop wasn t going to erase what he
had done in the past. King Affonso was just one example of an African working with Europeans to
make money for his kingdom. Another example of

Mary Did You Know A Christmas Carol Lyrics Analysis
We all love Christmas. There is so many good parts to it: the decorations and colors, the delicious
food, and being with our loving, caring families. However, the very best part is that we get to
celebrate Christ s birth and listen or sing carols that reflect Him. Mary Did You Know, a christmas
carol, shows what Jesusdid during His life.
This song has background, scripture, and definitions some may not understand. Buddy Greene
and Mark Lowry came together to write this carol. Mark Lowry is a Christian songwriter,
comedian, and singer. Buddy Greene is also a songwriter and singer. They included scripture in
this song, but instead of verses, they used only words. For example, the words in the third verse,
Lord of all Creation and the Great I Am are mentioned in the bible. One thing confusing in this
song is when it uses the word delivered as a homonym. This word means to give birth or to rescue,
which both definitions are used in the same verse; This Child that you delivered will soon deliver
you... This meaningful Christmas carol has more to it than you think. ... Show more content on

This carol has a purpose, a meaning, and a message. The purpose is to tell of Jesus and to show
Mary s significance as the Savior s mother. The meaning; He is our guide and healer. He is
powerful and God in human/trinity. He changed the world through His salvation and actions and
deeds throughout his life. Jesus was going to die on the cross, but did Mary know that? This is a
question almost all of us have wondered, including myself. Mary Did You Know has a lot of

Cultural Issues Of International Business
Culture can be defined as the sum total of the beliefs, rules, techniques, institutions, and artefacts
that characterize human populations (Ball et al, 1999 p.258). Sociologist generally talk about a
socialization process referring to the influence of social groups upon an individual, and the
interaction of that individual with other members of society. Key elements of cultureinclude
language, religion, values, attitudes, customs and norms of a group or society. Cultural issues
present a significant challenge to businesses; particularly international businesses. This is because
businesses involve people. Every business employs people, sells to people, buys from people, and is
owned and regulated by people. International people involve people from different national cultures
these cultures affect every aspect of business functions, including but not limited to: recruiting and
managing a workforce, marketing and distribution, purchasing of raw materials, dealing with
regulators, and securing funds. The challenges that cultural issues present to international business
is that of creating and nurturing cultural awareness; identifying and understanding the dynamics of
culture; recognizing behavioural patterns and practices that affect the business; and coming up with
strategies for dealing with cultural differences.
Cultural awareness can be described as awareness of the various norms, practices, and other cultural
variables of a country. This is an important aspect to

American Workers Attitudes
Some of the ways the workplace can be changed to better meet the modern worker were
discovered in a survey by Richard Freeman and Joel Rodgers. In their survey they found that
what workers want is more influence at work. They said, that American workers believe that if
they had more say in how production was carried out, that not only would they enjoy work more
but they would also their firms would be more competitive and problems would be solved more
effectively. Also, influence is associated with a wide range of attitudes about work, and that
workers satisfied with their degree of influence report that they enjoy work, have excellent
employee managementrelations, and trust their employer. In contrast workers who lack good

The Importance Of Cultural Heritage
In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being
an important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to
institute economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in
Banksy s graffiti of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along
with mass and cyber media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible
to safeguard the cultural legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people
without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots.
(Brainy Quote). Being unique and irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our
religion, customs and ancestors and charges us to preserve it for the future generations. However,
culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat caused by rapid modernization. Culture
cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world where people have a tendency to
become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of societies and new opportunities
is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. How can antique or medieval art protect
itself or withstand the contemporary art when our society insists to take the plunge into
globalization? Murzacov 2 A vivid example of modernization taking over the cultural heritage is
the city of Manilla, Philippines presented by the reporter, Erika

The Death Of Artemio Cruz
The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular
life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political
and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique
will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course
concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of
global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper,
and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by
us all.
Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young
soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in
place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of
our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking
contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming
the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought
so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of
drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled
reminiscences of a (n) (in)

Maritime Collaboration to Locate the Missing Malaysian...
1.0 Introduction
A multinational effort to track down a missing Malaysian airliner on the edge of the South China
Sea is turning into a rare example of maritime collaboration among countries embroiled in
territorial disputes in the region. (Chun et al., 2014) An expert on international security issues
quoted in The Wall Street Journal (2014), Nonetheless, it s also a good example of regional
cooperation on a multinational rescue operation , adding on that the example could be a good
model for the future.
It took the world by surprise when Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 bound for Beijing went
missing on 7th March 2014. Many were in shock, and the families of the 227 passengers and 12
crew were grieved stricken as there was still no news of the missing plane six days into the search
and rescue (SAR). Nevertheless, Malaysia is blessed to have so many countries that joined in the
SAR operations. The United States of America, Vietnam, Singapore, China, New Zealand, among
others, deployed resources such as aircrafts, ships, satellites and helicopters to aid in the SAR to
locate the missing plane.
The above case is depicted in this paper, because in essence, it showcases why foreign affairs and,
maintaining bilateral and multilateral relationships are vital for any country. From a political
perspective, such relationships are the main concern of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In
Malaysia, The Ministry has been mandated to pursue the nation s foreign

The excepted social theory of civilization s social process was made by the scientists Adam
Smith, John Millar, Adam Ferguson, and lastly Lord Kames. This social theory was that there
were many levels of civility in a society. These levels were hunting, pasturage, agriculture, and
commerce. One example of the first level which is hunting is the the Native Americans. The
excepted social process is that a country was to go through all of these levels by starting out on
hunting and eventually the society would mature and work its way up to the point of being a
commercially based society. Now this process helped shaped the colonies culture of civility because
the colonists were never hunters. When the colonists got to the North America... Show more content

One in particular that sticks out of this list is candid. Especially in todays politics there are very
few leaders and politicians that are honest and candid. Today we find many leaders lying and
making false promises to the citizens just to be elected or in our present day case reelected. I
guess one could say that the original principals that this country was technically founded on are
not being fallowed by todays leaders in americas. The founding father s also played a gigantic
role in the social culture in America. The social culture in America was very unique at the time.
When you are born in America you are not already put into a social class. There is an equal
opportunity for each and every person. And the role that the founding father s had played in this
was being the people who wrote the constitution which says what we can or can not do also
known as our set of laws. It says in the constitution that all men are created equally which
socially speaking there are not any nobles there are not any serfs or lords there are just citizens.
But what happens to slaves? Well in Thomas Paine s common sense he says that the government
should protect a citizens property and in the Southern colonies slaves were a part of their own
property. But if all men are created equal then how can a man be another man s property. The
founding father s had decided and played a large role in the social culture of The United States but

Over the summer I read American Sniper I felt this book was a perfect fit for me I m very pro

military has ever seen. This book talks a lot about war and what people experience in different
countries fighting for our country and the struggles they have. I will be talking about what he
experienced through his training and all of his tours and many other experiences that were
mentioned in the book including his family. One of the things that stuck out to me was he was

Schools Vs American Schools Essay
The American School system has always come under fire for its lack of education and resources for
students. Some complain that school is too long, others that schools do not teach enough. In fact,
many students feel that their classes are a waste of time and do not benefit them in the real world.
Teachers, on the other hand, feel that they do not get enough time to teach students essential
information. The question is, how can we change schools for the benefit of the students while
teaching them imperative information? Schools across Europe, especially those in Scandinavia,
are praised for their school standards. American Schools should adapt a new form of high schools
similar to those in Scandinavia. Unlike American Schools, schools in places like Denmark and
Norway have lines where students... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If you ask a handful of American students what their thoughts on the school system is, there is a
good chance many of them will say it s a waste of time or that they hate school. Now, if you do
the same thing in Europe most students will say they enjoy school and that they feel like they are
prepared for the workforce. There are many different ideas on why the American School system is
failing its students. One idea is that students are spending too much time in school and not learning
enough. How can students be spending too much time in school but not learning enough? The
answer is simple. We are giving our students facts and information, but not experience. Teenagers,
like adults, are motivated by the chance to prove their mastery of a subject or skill and move on.
If we give students an incentive of a job promised through mastery in schooling, wouldn t more
students be willing to spend more time in school? This is how students across Europe learn, and

Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Essay
Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost
Robert Frost tells a disturbing story in Out, Out, , in which a little boy loses his life. The title of
the poem leaves the reader to substitute the last word of the title, which some would assume would
be out because of the repetition. The title is referring to the boy exiting the living world. Frost
drags the reader s mind into the poem with the imagistic description of the tools and atmosphere the
little boy is surrounded by.
Frost describes the little boy s work in the first two lines by saying the stove length sticks of wood,
inferring the practical nature of his work. The mountains described in the next lines further add to
the captive nature of the poem. Vermont provides a... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The sister prepares the evening meal, making her contribution to the family; and calls on the boy to
come and eat. The saw in the boy?s hands was still running and when he took his attention away
from his work, and that split second of carelessness cost him an extremity. His instincts raised his
arm upward to keep all the blood from spilling out immediately. When he realized what was
happening, the boy finally realized he was to young to be doing a man?s work. The boy ?saw all
spoiled,? and now knew his whole childhood had vanished and it was impossible to get it back.
The boy frantically called out to his sister to make the doctor keep his hand on. The boy?s body
must have instantly gone into shock and not felt the absence of the hand. When the doctor
arrived he gave him some ether to make him go to sleep. The little boy began to lose his pulse
and soon he was a stranger to the world. The people surrounding the boy never expected the loss
of his hand to tragically end the little boy?s life. Frost?s almost appalling casual description of
death shocks the reader enough to make them think. ?Since they were not the one dead, turned to
their affairs,? describes the environment of the survivors. They are forced to move on with their life
and keep working because they cannot afford to stop and mourn.
The poem ?Out, Out, ? can only be described as an ironic misfortune that could be experienced by
anyone. The realistic subject

Pros And Cons Of Concealed Weapons
Christopher Ingraham brings up a very valid point: how would you feel if you couldn t carry a
concealed weapon? Fifty six percent of Americans would feel safer if more people carried
concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s not an overwhelming number, but anything over fifty
percent is still a number that gets your attention. The reason for this is there have been a rise in
shootings. People are starting to realize that if they are allowed to carry concealed weapons, they
will have a chance to protect themselves. Ten years ago, only 27 percent of Americans prefered to
be allowed to carry concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s an overwhelming difference.
Gun concealment is an ongoing conflict and for a valid reason. Both sides bring up very good
points. Those sides being, we should be allowed to carry concealed weapons and we should not
be able to carry concealed weapons. This is where things get tricky. People carried concealed
weapons anyway. Illegally. With this happening, the people who are not carrying a concealed
weapon are obviously at a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The number of shootings today is absolutely horrendous. The number of shootings that are done to
a fire armless person is even more devastating. The number one way to stop all of these deaths is
to fight fire with fire . People want this to stop. If more states do allow gun concealment, the
amount of gun violence would decline and show an overwhelming difference.

Hindu Religion And Hindu Churches
Khalil Gibran once said, I love you when you bow in your mosque, kneel in your temple, pray in

people from all races and religion are one in union, even though we come from different places
and pray differently, we come together as one equal. This quotation relates to a religious site
because all churches and religions are linked to the same thing. A religious site is a place where

What Does Fate In A Prayer For Owen Meany
Fate is a common theme in many cultures, with people either attempting to rebel against it or
embracing it. However, throughout these stories, people very rarely break away from their
destiny. A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is a story where fate is heavily involved, with
the main character Owen Meany receiving visions of the futureand accepting his destiny. Owen
Meany demonstrates that fate is inescapable, and should be embraced. Unlike most stories
involving fate, A Prayer for Owen Meanydoes not focus on God or divine power, and is instead
closer to magical realism. Throughout the novel, the author withholds information, constantly
changes the time as he is narrating, and has many people do not believe in the miracles of Owen
Meany. A Prayer for Owen Meany can fit in many categories, but with these aspects of magical
realism, it is the best genre to put it in.
The story is told as Johnny narrates it, looking back on his childhood, and he includes any
stories he believes are important to understanding the development of himself and Owen. While
telling these stories, he constantly changes the part of his childhood he is talking about. Besides
the sudden jumps in years, Johnny also skips over days or even weeks at once, not bothering to
explain what happened during that time. At one point, he is talking about how he could see
Owen was at least as high as the palm trees (Irving 626). In the very next sentence, he skips
presumably weeks ahead, to talk about how Major Rawls saw to it that Owen Meany got a
medal (Irving 626). Time being nonlinear is an aspect of magical realism, and with all the jumps
and skips, the timeline is very strange and a little difficult to piece together. The jumping of time
also plays into the theme of fate a little, as fate is all about the future. Telling the future before
previous events are explained makes the reader feel like Owen, knowing some of the future but
not the events that lead up to it. Not knowing information is also an aspect of magical realism, and
several major subplots involve the past the author keeps hidden. For two thirds of the book, and ten
years of his life, Johnny does not know who his father is, or what unspeakable outrage the Catholic
church

The Effects Of Gun Violence And Mass Shootings
Introduction As mass shootings have occurred in the United States the focus on mental illness
is held in account for multiple school shootings. Mentzl MacLeish (2014) share the diagnoses of
a gunman involved in the Sandy Hook elementary school in Newton, Connecticut, in December
of 2012. Adam Lanza, was diagnosed by media as having schizophrenia which he suffered from
and was not treated for. Lanza s crime which he committed was a mass murder of 20 children
and 6 adults with a semiautomatic weapon. It is reported on how mental illness had played in a
role with the incident such as this. Mentzl MacLeish (2014) share the links of gun violence and
mental illness are comparative in the aftermath of mass shootings due to psychiatric histories of

Discussion
1. What caused the change in HR with exercise? Muscles use more oxygen and glucose from the
blood with increased movement. This produces wastes that decrease blood pH below the normal
range causing an increase in heart rate. The heart rate increase delivers blood to the lungs and
kidneys more quickly so these organs can remove the wastes from the body. The faster the muscles
use energy and create waste, the faster the heart must pump blood. 2. Discuss the effect of venous

Essay on Parthenon and Lincoln Memorial
Adam 1
Jean Luc Adam
Mr. Viarengo
Period 6
29 October 2012
As many people know, the architects of many buildings have used a multitude of techniques and
methods from ancient architecture to build newer buildings. For example, the Capitol Building
uses Greek and Roman architecture in its columns, while the Washington Monument is in the style
of an Egyptian Obelisk. One of the monuments, the Lincoln Memorial, is based off the styles and
methods of the Architecture of the Parthenon. Because of this, there are many similarities, but also
differences, between the Parthenon and the Lincoln Memorial.
The architects of the Parthenon were Iktinos, Kallikrates, and Phidias. Although not much is known
about Iktinos and Kallikrates, other than ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Born April 20th, 1850, French, before he was a sculptor, was a Lawyer and a Judge, among other
occupations. In Ancient Greece, the Greeks widely believed in Gods and Goddesses such as Zeus,
Poseidon, Aphrodite, and Athena. The patron Goddess of Athena was Athens, and the Athenians
believed that pleasing their patron Goddess would give them good luck and fortune. This may be
one of the reasons that Athena Parthenos and the Parthenon were built. Another believed reason
that the Parthenon was built was that the leader at the time, Pericles, wanted to show the power and
wealth of Athens. In comparison, the Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th president,
Abraham Lincoln. One of the reasons that Bacon had for basing the memorial on the Parthenon was
to draw a parallel between the two governments What better way existed to remember a man who
struggled to defend democracy, than to model his tribute after one found in the birthplace of
democracy? (National Park Service). In terms of the monuments themselves, the Parthenon and the
Lincoln had many similarities and many differences. For instance, both of the monuments were
designed in the Greek temple style. They both hold Doric columns the Parthenon had 86, while the
Lincoln Memorial had 36 columns. Although there are many more columns in the Parthenon, the
Lincoln Memorial has much larger columns. Doric columns came from the Doric order, a style of
architecture that contains columns, a beam or

The Human Resource Management Department Of The Company
When it comes to developing a job analysis and job description of a company the human resource
management department of the company has an impactful position to assess and develop the
organization human capital needs. To have an effective job description, the human resource
management of a company should conduct and effective job analysis, which is the systematic
process of collecting information that identifies similarities and differences in the work (Book). A

Inflation Is A Serious Imbalance
Inflation is considered to be one of the most harmful economic phenomena that manifest in
contemporary economies, being considered a chronic disease difficult to control, which can
cause recessions (Thornton, 2012, p. 119). Inflation is a serious imbalance in the currently
economy and is represented by a generalized increase in prices and a simultaneous decrease in
the purchasing power of the national currency. It is a final indicator that shows at the end of a
fiscal period if the monetary, fiscal and legal policies were coordinating and were leading to
consumer price stability. Deflation is often defined as the opposite of inflation, namely as a situation
where there is a general decrease in prices over a long period of time. However,... Show more

As it can be seen in figure 1, CPI (as reported by the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis FRED)
recorded an upward general trend over time. After the crisis of 1980s, a period which was
preceded by the Great Inflation from 1965 to 1984, the CPI encountered a strong increase which
held (with some small variations, as in the 1990s and 2000s) till the beginning of 2008, when the
financial crisis struck the economy. After 2008 2010 (a period with low rates), the consumer price
index started to increase, with small variations.
Figure 2. Trimmed Mean PCE Inflation Rate for U.S. (quarterly data) Source: FRED
Looking at figure 2 above, we can observe that the level of inflation (as a percent change) has
experienced a maximum for the recovery period in 2012 of nearly 2 percent. After this point, the
decreasing trend was retaken. The Trimmed Mean PCE inflation rate is another method to
measure the inflation in the price index of the personal consumption expenditures (PCE). Here it
must be noted that FED practiced an inflation target policy of about 2 percent, specified since the
beginning of 2012. The 2 percent target was mostly a reinforcement of the FED commitment of
low inflation rates and a ratifying of a policy which was practiced for a long time. The 2 percent
path was maintained since 1995 (Williamson, 2014, p. 112).
The imbalances of the price level stability are caused mainly by the monetary mass

A Study on Operant and Classical Conditioning
Operant and Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning best explains reflective responding that
is largely controlled by stimuli preceding the response, while operant conditioning is the kind of
learning influenced by stimulus events that follow the responses. (Weiten). In operant conditioning,
reinforcement is defined as after the fact. Reinforcement follows a response and increases tendency
to make the response. In classical conditioning, the reinforcement comes before the response is
made and increases tendency to make the response. A middle school teacher intercepted a note that
contained personal information, read it out loud, and the student the note was intended for leaves
the class and school, feels sick at going to school the next day, and becomes ill at the thought of
the teacher. This is a classical conditioning case. (Daniels, 2009). If the student s behavior had
happened before the teacher intercepted the note and read it out loud, it would have been a case of
operant conditioning. In classical conditioning, the student s reaction to the teacher, classroom, and
the school is a conditioned response and creates a physiological reaction. In operant conditioning,
the teacher s reaction to the student s behavior, if reversed, would have been conditioned and
creates a physiological reaction. Operant responding is controlled by consequences as response
outcomes (R O) are learned. In operant conditioning the student s response can be considered a
consequence

The Pros And Cons Of Under Armour
Under Armour has severely limited its product offerings due to its primary target market, which is
geared mainly towards male athletes, aged 12 24. Their lack of diversity is a notable competitive
disadvantage to industry rivals Nike and Adidas. However, we have recently witnessed the growth
in demand for athletic wear apparel 6% (Marc Bain), as well as the growth in female sports
engagement across the United States (Statista). A potential strategic alternative could be to
significantly expand on their athletic apparel line. This expansion would primarily targetfemale
athletes within the same male target range. In order to enhance the success in this field, they should
continue to add to the eight women (Under Armour Roster) who are currently apart of the Under
Armour endorsement roster.
Pros and Cons Analysis 1:
In our first strategy we suggest that Under Armour expands their women s line to tap its thriving
market segment. Nike s women s department accounted for $5.7 billion in fiscal 2015 in
comparison to $4.5 billion in 2013. In recent years, women have transitioned to wearing athletic
apparel as leisurewear. Lululemon, a flagship store known for it women s athletic apparel has
incurred an annualized growth rate of 23.5% over the past five years (Soni). There is surely a
strong market for women s athletic apparel. With such strong growth in the industry over the past
few years, the competition is beginning to establish their place in the market. With Nike s and

History of Jamaican Music
The history of Jamaican music is inextricably intertwined with the history of the Jamaican people.
Jamaica is the third largest island in the Caribbean, and was initially populated by the Arawak
people. Christopher Columbus discovered the island on his second voyage to the Americas, and it
was settled first by Spanish colonists, and later by English colonists. (Megan, R.)

Rapping is, in fact, a method of creative expression. The thought that young people can participate
in this form of creativity seems to have helped the phenomenal growth of this genre of music and

art form gives young people the outlet of expressing themselves creatively. (Franksterr)
This is old time story telling in song and music. It combines African and latin rhythm, with anglo

Hansberry Make The Turning Point Of Karl Lindner
Explore the ways in which Hansberry makes the first visit of Karl Lindner such an intense scene.
Hansberry s play captures how Chicago (and America in general) was around the 1950 s;
although Chicago claimed to be anti racist, Hansberry shows what life was like for black families
in that day and age. It also has elements from her own life in it, making it a more realistic story.
Hansberry used many techniques to create a build up of tension until Karl Lindner came out with
what he had to say, which was racially prejudiced and very discriminatory towards the family. This
was the turning point in the play where everything they worked for was starting to go wrong. A
way tension was built was by the way in which Lindner was treated in the beginning. ... Show more

Lindner is very nervous and seems to not know how to tackle the situation, therefore he tries to
avoid it for a great period of time and sends Beneatha through different states of emotion. At first
Beneatha is quick to understand what he is aiming to say but later on Lindner misleads her by
saying I am sure you people must be aware of some of the incidents which have happened in
various parts of the city, when coloured people moved into certain areas. By this he meant
violence directed toward the Black families that moved into white neighbourhoods this could
also be a masked threat towards the family. Afterwards, he tells them that he and his
neighbourhood not only deplore that kind of thing but they are trying to do something about it.
After he says this it seems as though he is going to say something more pleasant, he has also got
the family encouraging him to do so. This increases the tension because it is right before the
message is clear, you can see that by the way Lindner is talking, which is clearer and there is no
constant manipulation of his word order. He is also gaining confidence to finish up his speech. It
is also stated clearly in the stage directions (more encouraged by such affirmation). The family at
this point is expecting something positive from him, but after he says Our people out there feel
that people get along better, take more of a common interest in the life of the community, when
they share a common background. To put it simply, he and his neighbourhood are telling them that
they are unwanted just because they do not have a common background by this meaning skin
colour. Lindner also thinks that the family is willing to agree and he is willing to buy back the
house. This leaves the family in utter disbelief, you can see this when Ruth exclaims ain t this a

The war in Iraq began in March of 2003. During this war personnel of the United States Army and
the Central Intelligence Agency committed a chain of human rights violations. This was against
prisoners in the Abu Ghraib Prison, which was in Iraq. These violations included torture, sodomy,
sexual and physical abuse, rape, and murder. The abuse captured public attention and was
widespread. The incidents received widespread condemnation both within the United Statesand
abroad, because of the photographs and publication of the abuse by the news in April of 2004.
Meanwhile, the soldiers received support from some conservative media within the United States.
The administration of George W. Bush was not loyal. They attempted to portray the abuse as
isolated incidents. They tried not to make it indicative of general U.S. policy. It was a challenge for
organizations such as Red Cross, and Human Rights Watch. According to the article from

In July 12, 2008 publication of the New York Times, it was reported that the President of Sri

very same newspaper (on November 5, 2009), reported that how a Muslim attacker attacked the US

The part that the reporters omitted or failed to state was that the Muslim soldiers were praying on
a battlefield in Afghanistan. Common sense of the situation meant that the soldiers had to remain
armed at all times in case of an ambush at any time. This is a clear example of the media s biased
and inaccurate reporting (Martinez 1, Ba Yunus 1).
While talking about soldiers, I would like to talk about another western media s misconception
i.e. Jihad. The ideas of war and violence have become related to the Islamic religion from the
media. Jihad is so often apparent in the news because the media thinks it is Islam s justification
for war and violence. The Quran (Muslim Holy Book) says Fight for the sake of Allah those that
fight against you, but do not attack them first. Allah (God) does not love aggression . A Muslim is
permitted to take up arms only as an act of self defense. A Muslim has the right to defend his life,
and his property (Martinez 1, Hassan 4). They (media) cannot differentiate between a struggle for
independence in Kashmir or Palestine or Lebanon and terrorism in Afghanistan. Mujahid and
terrorist mean the same in their dictionary.
Jihad literally means The struggle in the path of God , or holy war . However, the Western media
often abuses the meaning of jihad by referring to it as a holy war where Muslims unreasonably kill
non believers. But the fact is, is that jihad can

While this may be true for new readers, the story does a fantastic job of preluding to future events.
For example, at the beginning of the story, Honor s role in the story is precluded. The

point is when Batman comes to after he is captured and drugged by The Black Glove.
Batman R.I.P. is very much a rebirth story. Here, we saw the rise, fall, and then rise again of

Aaeus Influence On Christianity
On June 325, at least 220 bishops were present at the council of Nicaea condemning Arius
interpretation of Jesus Christ and the divine trinity. As a result, it produced an anti Arian creed, the
Creed of Nicea. Arius was a presbyter teaching a radical view of Jesus Christ and the trinity. Arius
believed that the Son was a creature with a beginning, therefore, it was not possible to have a
hierarchy of divine beings. His viewpoints, believes, faith, and passion is found today in the
Jehovah s Witnesses. This council divided the church in two half truths confronting one another the
full deity of Jesus Christ (Nicea) and his eternal distinctness from the Father (Origen). In fact, the
identity of Christ and the trinitycompletely changes the way that we live as Christians. Without a
clear view, one cannot have a clear understanding of Christianity. This is a unique time in Christian
history. However, it continues to compromise the absolute truth of Jesus Christ. In fact, due to this
misunderstanding as early as the second century there were monks who lived an especially ascetic
life Trying to earn God s favor of salvation by keeping certain rituals and ceremonies.... Show more

In fact, three heresies were condemned at the council of Constantinople (381); then, the council of
Ephesus (431) which meet to resolve the controversy between Cyril and Nestorius; then, the council
of Chalcedon (451), which condemned four ancient heresies: In Jesus Christ, true deity (against
Arius) and full humanity (against Apollinaris) are indivisibly united in the one person (against
Nesorius), without being confused (against Eutyches). This led to the creation of the basic creed for
Christianity. True Christianity is knowing who Jesus Christ is in relationship to God, the Holy
Spirit and

Agatha Christie Essay 2
AGATHA CHRISTIE Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, in the county of Devon, as the
daughter of Frederick Alvah Miller, an American with a moderate private income, and Clarissa
Miller. Her father died when she was a child. Christie was educated home, where her mother
encouraged her to write from very early age. At sixteen she was sent to school in Paris where
she studied singing and piano. Christie was an accomplished pianist but her stage fright and
shyness prevented her from pursuing a career in music. In her books Christie seldom referred to
music, although her detectives, Poirot and Miss Marple, show interest in opera and Poirot sings in

Later Christie used these exotic settings in her novels MURDER IN MESOPOTAMIA (1936)
and Death on the Nile (1937). Her own archeological adventures were recounted in COME
TELL ME HOW YOU LIVE (1946). Mallowan was Catholic and fourteen years her junior; he
became one of the most prominent archaeologist of his generation. Of her marriage the writer
told reporters: An archaeologist is the best husband any woman can have. The older she gets, the
more interested he is in her. Mallowan worked in Iraq in the 1950s but returnmed to England,
when Christie s health grew weaker. His most famous book was Nimrud and its Remains. Christie
s most prolific period began in the late 1920s. During the 1930s he published four non series
mystery novels, fourteen Poirot novels, two Marple novels, two Superintendent Battle books, a
book of stories featuring Harley Quin and another featuring Mr. Parken Pyne, an additional Maru
Westmacott book, and two original plays. In 1936 she published the first of six psychological
romance novels under the pseudonym Mary Westmacott. After visiting Luxor in 1937, where
Christie saw Howard Carter, she wrote the play AKHNATON, which was not published until 1973.
It dramatized the fate of the Egyptian pharaoh Akhnaton, who tried to replace the old gods with
monotheism, and Nefertiti, his wife. Curiously, the Finnish writer Mika Waltari, who gained later

To Build A Fire
I chose the story To Build a Fire by Jack London. I chose this story because it was the one that
caught my attention the most. As I was reading it, I really wanted to know the fate of the man at
the end of the tale. This short story is about a man who sets out on a journey through the Yukon
trail. He goes on the trip all alone, only accompanied by a dog despite the warnings of the locals
that going alone on a journey with such freezing weather is dangerous. At the end, the man realizes
he should have heeded the warnings as he slowly dies of hypothermia from the cold weather. I
enjoyed this story very much. From the start, we are told that the man was mistaken to set out on
this journey with this weather The animal was worried by the great

Circadian Rhythms Research Paper
My science research project question is which light wavelengths from screens have the worst
and best effect on your circadian rhythms. Which electronic device screens affect your sleep
patterns. Circadian rhythms is the twenty four hour clock in your brain that monitors your sleep
schedule. Our circadian rhythms are affected by the sun. The sun dictates our sleep patterns,
however since there are other sources of light they can tell our brains when to sleep or to wake up.
If you are looking at a electronic screen, your eyes think that it is the sun and they tell your brain to
wake up and not to prepare you for sleep. If you look at a screen right before you go to bed, it will
take you a long time to actually go to sleep because you had just... Show more content on

There are also many applications that change the whole color of the screen. Instead of
everything being so bright and blue, everything has a red tint to it and is duller. Unfortunately, I
cannot test the applications because I cannot take the smartphone screen out of a phone to test. I
will be testing various screen filters to see which filter is the best. There are many different
brands of screen filters; however, I will just test the most generic ones, for the most common
devices. First, I will test a privacy screen, which prevents glare and disables someone to see the
screen from a side view. The second screen I will test are glasses that you can wear for any
screen that you use to block blue light and eye damage. The third screen I will test is a computer
blue light screen filter. The final screen I will test is the iPhone screen. The smartphone has the
most extreme level of blue light out of all the electronic devices, therefore the screen filter
should be the best since the most powerful level of blue light is emitted. All the screens will
block majority of the unnecessary blue light, but I would like to see how much is blocked
compared to how much is emitted from the device. For the glasses I would like to see how much
is blocked for the average screen. Finally, for the antiglare screen, I will see how much glare
blockage has to do with light

Factors Affecting The Development Of A Corporation Essay
There are many factors that play a role in the development of a corporation. One being its initial
raise of funds. Weather it s through investors, lenders, stocks or bonds corporations must somehow
find a way to increase their revenue. A firm that raises capital through lenders or investors must first
convince potential investors of its profitability. They do this by releasing valuable information
about their finances through a series of lengthy financial statements. Due to the Securities Exchange
Commission (SEC) disclosure Laws and Regulations companies, that are publicly owned, are
required to disclose detailed information about their financial condition, operating results,
management compensation, and other areas of their business to all potential investors. Doing so
reduces the cost investors receive while collecting company information. Although these disclosure
obligations are primarily linked with large publicly traded companies, many smaller companies
choose to raise capital by making shares in the company available to investors. (1) These financial
statements are also displayed in the form of a business plan. Through the use of income statements
and balance sheets corporations are able to successfully record their financial flow. An income
statementalso known as the statement of revenue and expenses reports a company s financial
performance over a specific accounting period. Corporations use this to provide investors with
information about their revenue costs

Compare And Contrast The Connection Between Video Games...
With the increase of video games and violence is there a connection between the two? With all

Cultural Sensitivity In Nursing
Albanian Cultural Analysis As America continues to grow and expand with diverse cultures
immigrating into the United States it is important to start to incorporate culture specific care into
nursing. Cultural competence is when attitudes, knowledge, and skills to diverse cultures are
adequate to provide quality care to the individual (AACN, 2008). Cultural sensitivity is when
verbal and nonverbal ques are used to reflect sensitivity and appreciation for one another s culture
(AACN, 2008). Per American Association of Colleges of Nursing (2008), there are five key
competencies when providing care which include applying the knowledge of social and cultural
factors, using relevant evidence based practices, promote safety and quality... Show more content on

  • 2. History Of Rwanda And The Genocide HISTORY OF RWANDA AND THE GENOCIDE It is believed that the Hutu and the Tutsi were originally one community who shared some value culture and even religion until the colonialist announced their arrival. Rwanda has experienced a disturbing and prolonged cycle of violent conflict since 1959. The conflict which has been characteristically political and socio economic in nature has played out mainly on the basis of ethnicity and regionalism. It was first German and Belgium colonialism that created and nurtured the country s ethnic rivalry between the majority Hutu and the minority Tutsi. The rivalry was constructed on the basis of a myth of Tutsi superiority over the Hutu in order to serve both the colonial policy of divide and rule and the colonial division of labor. The Tutsi were designated as the administrative supervisors and the Hutu s the labor force of the extractive colonial economy. The 1959 revolution brought the Hutu to power and ended colonialism. Unfortunately, though it succeeded in changing the colonial socio political relations, it failed to crush the ethnic stereotypes that continued to haunt the country (Maundi...et al, 2006:31). Later on the Rwandan government at that time itself perpetuated the ethnic hate since its 1962 independence. The 30 years governance fought reflected the ideology of division, hate anger, among others resulted into genocide in April 1994 leading to the death of Tutsi approximately 800,000 to 1,000,000 Tutsi lost their lives. Robber Barons were businessmen who often earned their wealth in dishonest and greedy ways. Favorable laws were made by the government towards the robber barons. The government helped the rich and didn t care much for the lower class. Great fortune was made on the transcontinental railroad and the oil industry. Both of these companies treated their workers poorly and paid them low wages. Corporations became very powerful by creating monopolies A system in which one corporation controls all or most of an industry (173 Zinn). • 4. Symbolism In The White Heron The White Heron depicts a story of a little girl who leads a life of respect and love of nature rather than that of fortune. Early on in the story, she meets a boy who is a self proclaimed ornithologist, a scientist that studies birds. He is willing to pay ten dollars to whomever can show him the White Heron he had once seen. It is now up to Sylvia, the young girl, to make a decision either in favor of the ornithologist or the white heron. Ultimately, she will be making a decision to acquiesce to male dominance or not. The pine tree in which Sylvia climbs in order to see the white heron up close can be represented as a symbol of life. Now she thought of the tree with a new excitement, for why, if one climbed it at break of day, could not one see all the world, and easily discover whence the white heron flewВ… (Jewett 466). The tree actually takes on the characteristics of an animal, when Sylvia is climbing the tree and the twigs scratch her with angry like talons (Jewett 466). Sylvia continues on this obstacle up and up the tree, and continuing on towards her revelation. The birds of the forest begin to sing louder and louder as Sylvia climbs, meaning she is coming ever so closely to the top of the tree or the climax of her new life. She finally sees the white heron and is eager with anticipation to tell the boy of the path to find it. Sylvia ventures home and the young ornithologist and Sylvia s grandmother are both waiting for her. He can make them rich with money; ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. African Slaves And The Slave Trade At the beginning of the fifteenth century the Atlantic slave trade was at its peak. Many believe that only Europeans benefited from having Africans as slaves, but they are wrong. Africans of different tribes would destroy settlements, capture the villagers, and sell them at the market as they were a baked good at a farmer s market in today s society. Europeans and Africans both played a major role in the slave trade and are both to blame for the capturing and selling of African slaves. African s played a much bigger role in the Atlantic Slave tradethan the ones being enslaved. King Affonso I was an African King who worked hand in hand with the Europeans during the slave trade. He thought since his slaves were either criminals or Prisoners of War it was ok to have them as slaves. When Affonso wanted to quit being part of the slave trade his reign as King began to fall, Kongo was in disarray and the authority of its ruler greatly undermined (Stroyer, 706). Affonso started losing control when he could no longer decide what to trade and when to trade with Portugal. Portugal took full advantage of this fall of power and traded as they pleased. Even though King Affonso wanted to stop the slave trade he is still at fault. Almost going forty years with capturing, buying, and selling Africans, wanting to stop wasn t going to erase what he had done in the past. King Affonso was just one example of an African working with Europeans to make money for his kingdom. Another example of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Mary Did You Know A Christmas Carol Lyrics Analysis We all love Christmas. There is so many good parts to it: the decorations and colors, the delicious food, and being with our loving, caring families. However, the very best part is that we get to celebrate Christ s birth and listen or sing carols that reflect Him. Mary Did You Know, a christmas carol, shows what Jesusdid during His life. This song has background, scripture, and definitions some may not understand. Buddy Greene and Mark Lowry came together to write this carol. Mark Lowry is a Christian songwriter, comedian, and singer. Buddy Greene is also a songwriter and singer. They included scripture in this song, but instead of verses, they used only words. For example, the words in the third verse, Lord of all Creation and the Great I Am are mentioned in the bible. One thing confusing in this song is when it uses the word delivered as a homonym. This word means to give birth or to rescue, which both definitions are used in the same verse; This Child that you delivered will soon deliver you... • 7. Cultural Issues Of International Business Culture can be defined as the sum total of the beliefs, rules, techniques, institutions, and artefacts that characterize human populations (Ball et al, 1999 p.258). Sociologist generally talk about a socialization process referring to the influence of social groups upon an individual, and the interaction of that individual with other members of society. Key elements of cultureinclude language, religion, values, attitudes, customs and norms of a group or society. Cultural issues present a significant challenge to businesses; particularly international businesses. This is because businesses involve people. Every business employs people, sells to people, buys from people, and is owned and regulated by people. International people involve people from different national cultures these cultures affect every aspect of business functions, including but not limited to: recruiting and managing a workforce, marketing and distribution, purchasing of raw materials, dealing with regulators, and securing funds. The challenges that cultural issues present to international business is that of creating and nurturing cultural awareness; identifying and understanding the dynamics of culture; recognizing behavioural patterns and practices that affect the business; and coming up with strategies for dealing with cultural differences. Cultural awareness can be described as awareness of the various norms, practices, and other cultural variables of a country. This is an important aspect to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

In their survey they found that what workers want is more influence at work. They said, that American workers believe that if they had more say in how production was carried out, that not only would they enjoy work more but they would also their firms would be more competitive and problems would be solved more effectively. Also, influence is associated with a wide range of attitudes about work, and that workers satisfied with their degree of influence report that they enjoy work, have excellent employee managementrelations, and trust their employer. • 9. The Importance Of Cultural Heritage In an era of globalization governed by financial targets and money return, cultural heritage being an important humanity asset becomes victim of oppressive and destroying actions meant to institute economic and social progress. Cultural destructiveness and ignorance are observed in Banksy s graffiti of a worker jet blasting over prehistoric art from a city wall. As progress along with mass and cyber media tend to gain territory and people s sympathy, we must be responsible to safeguard the cultural legacy which is the basis of humanity. Marcus Garvey said, A people without the knowledge of their past history, origin, and culture is like a tree without roots. (Brainy Quote). Being unique and irreplaceable, cultural heritage keeps us attached to our religion, customs and ancestors and charges us to preserve it for the future generations. However, culture loss or deculturation becomes a living threat caused by rapid modernization. Culture cannot fit itself in a money oriented and fast paced world where people have a tendency to become materialistic. Globalization as a promoter of integration of societies and new opportunities is in fact a culture killer which causes loss of identity. How can antique or medieval art protect itself or withstand the contemporary art when our society insists to take the plunge into globalization? • 10. The Death Of Artemio Cruz The Death of Artemio Cruz is a novel written in 1962 by Carlos Fuentes chronicling the singular life and destiny of a man raised in the lower classes of Mexico, who manages to rise into political and economical power through intrigue and Manichean maneuverings. The following book critique will contain a summary of the novel and provide some examples and parallels on core course concepts evident in the story, hopefully demonstrating what learning was obtained using the lens of global healthmatters. Some of my personal musings and reflections will be included in the paper, and provide food for thought, reflections on universal problems commonly known if not shared by us all. Book Summary Beginning with his participation in the Mexican Revolutionary War as a young soldier embracing Marxist ideals bent on overthrowing the established, corrupt political structure in place, The Death of Artemio Cruz details the gradual rise in political and economical influence of our character in the aftermath of a successful revolution. The main plot underlines a striking contradiction, as the protagonist eventually espouses principles he has long eschewed, becoming the exploiter instead of the champion of the downtrodden, betraying the principles he had fought so long and hard for. The narrative begins while he lies helplessly on his deathbed, in the throes of drug and disease induced delirium, and through a series of flashbacks features his somewhat addled reminiscences of a (n) (in) ... • 11. Maritime Collaboration to Locate the Missing Malaysian... 1.0 Introduction A multinational effort to track down a missing Malaysian airliner on the edge of the South China Sea is turning into a rare example of maritime collaboration among countries embroiled in territorial disputes in the region. (Chun et al., 2014) An expert on international security issues quoted in The Wall Street Journal (2014), Nonetheless, it s also a good example of regional cooperation on a multinational rescue operation , adding on that the example could be a good model for the future. It took the world by surprise when Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 bound for Beijing went missing on 7th March 2014. Many were in shock, and the families of the 227 passengers and 12 crew were grieved stricken as there was still no news of the missing plane six days into the search and rescue (SAR). Nevertheless, Malaysia is blessed to have so many countries that joined in the SAR operations. The United States of America, Vietnam, Singapore, China, New Zealand, among others, deployed resources such as aircrafts, ships, satellites and helicopters to aid in the SAR to locate the missing plane. The above case is depicted in this paper, because in essence, it showcases why foreign affairs and, maintaining bilateral and multilateral relationships are vital for any country. From a political perspective, such relationships are the main concern of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In Malaysia, The Ministry has been mandated to pursue the nation s foreign ... This social theory was that there were many levels of civility in a society. These levels were hunting, pasturage, agriculture, and commerce. One example of the first level which is hunting is the the Native Americans. The excepted social process is that a country was to go through all of these levels by starting out on hunting and eventually the society would mature and work its way up to the point of being a commercially based society. One in particular that sticks out of this list is candid. Especially in todays politics there are very few leaders and politicians that are honest and candid. Today we find many leaders lying and making false promises to the citizens just to be elected or in our present day case reelected. I guess one could say that the original principals that this country was technically founded on are not being fallowed by todays leaders in americas. The founding father s also played a gigantic role in the social culture in America. The social culture in America was very unique at the time. When you are born in America you are not already put into a social class. There is an equal opportunity for each and every person. And the role that the founding father s had played in this was being the people who wrote the constitution which says what we can or can not do also known as our set of laws. It says in the constitution that all men are created equally which socially speaking there are not any nobles there are not any serfs or lords there are just citizens. But what happens to slaves? Well in Thomas Paine s common sense he says that the government should protect a citizens property and in the Southern colonies slaves were a part of their own property. But if all men are created equal then how can a man be another man s property. The founding father s had decided and played a large role in the social culture of The United States but however ... Teachers, on the other hand, feel that they do not get enough time to teach students essential information. The question is, how can we change schools for the benefit of the students while teaching them imperative information? • 16. Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Essay Analysis of Out, Out by Robert Frost Robert Frost tells a disturbing story in Out, Out, , in which a little boy loses his life. The title of the poem leaves the reader to substitute the last word of the title, which some would assume would be out because of the repetition. The title is referring to the boy exiting the living world. Frost drags the reader s mind into the poem with the imagistic description of the tools and atmosphere the little boy is surrounded by. Frost describes the little boy s work in the first two lines by saying the stove length sticks of wood, inferring the practical nature of his work. The boy ?saw all spoiled,? and now knew his whole childhood had vanished and it was impossible to get it back. The boy frantically called out to his sister to make the doctor keep his hand on. Fifty six percent of Americans would feel safer if more people carried concealed weapons (Ingraham). Ten years ago, only 27 percent of Americans prefered to be allowed to carry concealed weapons (Ingraham). Now that s an overwhelming difference. • 20. What Does Fate In A Prayer For Owen Meany Fate is a common theme in many cultures, with people either attempting to rebel against it or embracing it. However, throughout these stories, people very rarely break away from their destiny. A Prayer for Owen Meany by John Irving is a story where fate is heavily involved, with the main character Owen Meany receiving visions of the futureand accepting his destiny. Owen Meany demonstrates that fate is inescapable, and should be embraced. Unlike most stories involving fate, A Prayer for Owen Meanydoes not focus on God or divine power, and is instead closer to magical realism. Throughout the novel, the author withholds information, constantly changes the time as he is narrating, and has many people do not believe in the miracles of Owen Meany. A Prayer for Owen Meany can fit in many categories, but with these aspects of magical realism, it is the best genre to put it in. The story is told as Johnny narrates it, looking back on his childhood, and he includes any stories he believes are important to understanding the development of himself and Owen. While telling these stories, he constantly changes the part of his childhood he is talking about. Besides the sudden jumps in years, Johnny also skips over days or even weeks at once, not bothering to explain what happened during that time. At one point, he is talking about how he could see Owen was at least as high as the palm trees (Irving 626). In the very next sentence, he skips presumably weeks ahead, to talk about how Major Rawls saw to it that Owen Meany got a medal (Irving 626). Time being nonlinear is an aspect of magical realism, and with all the jumps and skips, the timeline is very strange and a little difficult to piece together. The jumping of time also plays into the theme of fate a little, as fate is all about the future. Telling the future before previous events are explained makes the reader feel like Owen, knowing some of the future but not the events that lead up to it. Another believed reason that the Parthenon was built was that the leader at the time, Pericles, wanted to show the power and wealth of Athens. In comparison, the Lincoln Memorial was built to honor the 16th president, Abraham Lincoln. One of the reasons that Bacon had for basing the memorial on the Parthenon was to draw a parallel between the two governments What better way existed to remember a man who struggled to defend democracy, than to model his tribute after one found in the birthplace of democracy? A Study on Operant and Classical Conditioning Operant and Classical Conditioning Classical conditioning best explains reflective responding that is largely controlled by stimuli preceding the response, while operant conditioning is the kind of learning influenced by stimulus events that follow the responses. (Weiten). In operant conditioning, reinforcement is defined as after the fact. Reinforcement follows a response and increases tendency to make the response. In classical conditioning, the reinforcement comes before the response is made and increases tendency to make the response. A middle school teacher intercepted a note that contained personal information, read it out loud, and the student the note was intended for leaves the class and school, feels sick at going to school the next day, and becomes ill at the thought of the teacher. This is a classical conditioning case. (Daniels, 2009). If the student s behavior had happened before the teacher intercepted the note and read it out loud, it would have been a case of operant conditioning. In classical conditioning, the student s reaction to the teacher, classroom, and the school is a conditioned response and creates a physiological reaction. In operant conditioning, the teacher s reaction to the student s behavior, if reversed, would have been conditioned and creates a physiological reaction. It came as no surprise that Mr. M s Thyroid panel revealed an elevated TSH and an almost non existent T3 and T4 levels, a formal diagnosis of Hypothyroidism was later determined by an endocrinologist. I had gotten to know Mr. M over a matter of months, eventually finding the root of Mr. M s problems still remains a powerful source of gratification. Though Mr. M constantly dismissed and underplayed his symptoms, the true state of his health was eventually gleaned from casual conversation. I often ponder as to how long Mr. M would go untreated where it not for an intimate and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 40. Batman Of Zur-En-Arrh Essay The most important character of the entire story is Bruce Wayne, AKA Batman, AKA The Batman of Zur En Arrh. Bruce Wayne is the main protagonist of the story. He is depicted as a rich, intelligent, and successful businessman and crime fighter. While dressed as his alter ego, Batman he fights the crime organizations of Gotham. In the story, Bruce is depicted in many different ways: as Batman, and as The Batman of Zur En Arrh. The main difference between the two personas is their costumes. The Batman is an all black and yellow suit, resembling a bat, while The Batman of Zur En Arrh wears a suit of purple, red, and black trash. These two personas are very important to Bruce s development as a character and they highlight important personal details. The Batman of... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... While this may be true for new readers, the story does a fantastic job of preluding to future events. For example, at the beginning of the story, Honor s role in the story is precluded. The representation of time in the story can be confusing. Often flashbacks are incorporated in the middle of scenes, and time jumps back and forth throughout the story. A particularly confusing point is when Batman comes to after he is captured and drugged by The Black Glove. Batman R.I.P. is very much a rebirth story. Here, we saw the rise, fall, and then rise again of Batman. This story has many parallels to the story of Jesus Christ. At the beginning of the story the reader sees Batman performing a typical Batman act of heroism (rise). It then progresses to Batman being incapacitated by the Black Glove and him being reduced to The Batman of Zur En Arrh (fall). Batman then infiltrates the Black Glove at Arkham Asylum, destroys Dr. Hurt and rediscovers himself as the Batman (rise). This story truly highlights the progression of a tragic hero. A tragic hero is one who faces a tragic set back on their quest for greatness. In many stories throughout literature ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 41. Aaeus Influence On Christianity On June 325, at least 220 bishops were present at the council of Nicaea condemning Arius interpretation of Jesus Christ and the divine trinity. As a result, it produced an anti Arian creed, the Creed of Nicea. Arius was a presbyter teaching a radical view of Jesus Christ and the trinity. Arius believed that the Son was a creature with a beginning, therefore, it was not possible to have a hierarchy of divine beings. His viewpoints, believes, faith, and passion is found today in the Jehovah s Witnesses. This council divided the church in two half truths confronting one another the full deity of Jesus Christ (Nicea) and his eternal distinctness from the Father (Origen). In fact, the identity of Christ and the trinitycompletely changes the way that we live as Christians. Without a clear view, one cannot have a clear understanding of Christianity. This is a unique time in Christian history. However, it continues to compromise the absolute truth of Jesus Christ. In fact, due to this misunderstanding as early as the second century there were monks who lived an especially ascetic life Trying to earn God s favor of salvation by keeping certain rituals and ceremonies.... In fact, three heresies were condemned at the council of Constantinople (381); then, the council of Ephesus (431) which meet to resolve the controversy between Cyril and Nestorius; then, the council of Chalcedon (451), which condemned four ancient heresies: In Jesus Christ, true deity (against Arius) and full humanity (against Apollinaris) are indivisibly united in the one person (against Nesorius), without being confused (against Eutyches). This led to the creation of the basic creed for Christianity. True Christianity is knowing who Jesus Christ is in relationship to God, the Holy Spirit and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 44. To Build A Fire I chose the story To Build a Fire by Jack London. I chose this story because it was the one that caught my attention the most. As I was reading it, I really wanted to know the fate of the man at the end of the tale. This short story is about a man who sets out on a journey through the Yukon trail. He goes on the trip all alone, only accompanied by a dog despite the warnings of the locals that going alone on a journey with such freezing weather is dangerous. At the end, the man realizes he should have heeded the warnings as he slowly dies of hypothermia from the cold weather. I enjoyed this story very much. Which electronic device screens affect your sleep patterns. Circadian rhythms is the twenty four hour clock in your brain that monitors your sleep schedule. Our circadian rhythms are affected by the sun. The sun dictates our sleep patterns, however since there are other sources of light they can tell our brains when to sleep or to wake up. There are many different brands of screen filters; however, I will just test the most generic ones, for the most common devices. First, I will test a privacy screen, which prevents glare and disables someone to see the screen from a side view. The second screen I will test are glasses that you can wear for any screen that you use to block blue light and eye damage. The third screen I will test is a computer blue light screen filter. The final screen I will test is the iPhone screen. The smartphone has the most extreme level of blue light out of all the electronic devices, therefore the screen filter should be the best since the most powerful level of blue light is emitted. All the screens will block majority of the unnecessary blue light, but I would like to see how much is blocked compared to how much is emitted from the device. For the glasses I would like to see how much is blocked for the average screen. Finally, for the antiglare screen, I will see how much glare blockage has to do with light ... • 46. Factors Affecting The Development Of A Corporation Essay There are many factors that play a role in the development of a corporation. One being its initial raise of funds. Weather it s through investors, lenders, stocks or bonds corporations must somehow find a way to increase their revenue. A firm that raises capital through lenders or investors must first convince potential investors of its profitability. They do this by releasing valuable information about their finances through a series of lengthy financial statements. Due to the Securities Exchange Commission (SEC) disclosure Laws and Regulations companies, that are publicly owned, are required to disclose detailed information about their financial condition, operating results, management compensation, and other areas of their business to all potential investors. Doing so reduces the cost investors receive while collecting company information. Although these disclosure obligations are primarily linked with large publicly traded companies, many smaller companies choose to raise capital by making shares in the company available to investors. (1) These financial statements are also displayed in the form of a business plan. Through the use of income statements and balance sheets corporations are able to successfully record their financial flow. An income statementalso known as the statement of revenue and expenses reports a company s financial performance over a specific accounting period. Corporations use this to provide investors with information about their revenue costs ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
