Analysis of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own Essay
Analysis of Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own
Throughout history, female artists have not been strangers to harsh criticism regarding their artistic
works. Some female artists are fortunate to even receive such criticism; many have not achieved
success in sharing their works with the world. In Virgina Woolfs third chapter of her essay A Room
of One s Own, Woolf addresses the plight of the woman writer, specifically during the Elizabethan
time period of England. Woolf helps the reader appreciate her view on how stifling and difficult
this time period was for women and how what little creativity emerged would have been distorted in
some way. Through a number of claims, examples and other literary techniques, Woolf is able to ...

Woolf contends that she is on the track of a lost novelist, a suppressed poet, of some mute and
inglorious Jane Austen or Emily Bronte who.......mowed about the highways crazed with the torture
that her gift put her to (53). Woolf uses many historical and literary examples such as Jane Austen
and Emily Bronte numerous times in her work to contrast the fame and fortune of successful
authors, with the unknown lives of ghost writers.
Woolf supports this claim by focusing on the anonymous writer named Anon (anonymous), that we
as readers have seen so many times in literature. Could this Anon have been a woman, this Anon
that has written so many poems and ballads? From Woolf s point of view, whatever she had
written would have been twisted and deformed, issuing from a strained and morbid imagination
(54). She does not reach a conclusion as to the lack of women writers before the 18th century, she
can only make assumptions on the time period and enlighten her audience to make sure that women
are able to express their creativity without any constraints issued by society.
The reader can tell that Woolf feels very strongly about the mistreatment of women in the past,
which often makes for an effective argument. Her strong

South Alberta Oil Sands Case Study
Examining the impact of oil sands expansion on northern Alberta s First Nations
Background
The Canadian province of Alberta is home to one of the world s largest unconventional oil reserves

substance comprising these reserves, is a particularly resource intensive and environmentally
destructive fuel source to extract, requiring significant amounts of water and often strip mined land

Being Green Is A Popular Song By Joe Raposo
Being green is a popular song written by Joe Raposo, originally performed by Jim Henson as
Kermit the Frog on Sesame Street and The Muppet Show. In the Muppets version, Kermit begins
by complaining his green coloration, shows that the green color is blending woith the other colors
and have its own color presentation. In the end of the song, Kermit refers positive associations with
the colorgreen, and concluded it by embracing and accepting his live for the green color. The
signature line of the songs is still present in most of the cultures in these times. It is like a phrase
that has since appeared in most of the situations in their working and pop cultures. It is most of
the times quoted as expression of melancholy over the life of the one. The song has a link with
questions of identity and individuality, but also has a strong collaboration with the themes of
celebration and self love of diversity, especially in the color senses, that was the main social aspect
in the culture of America at the point of the debuting of songs. With the passage of times, as green
has been used as more famous color, the references to the concept of the environmentalism,
counterstatement or its phases are most of the times used in the same context as well.
Kemit showed his mixed feelings about his color, stating that green blends in with many other
common things and he wished that he could have some other color. In middle, Kermit realized that

Parable Of The Kingdom Of God
Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God that you must help others to enter the Kingdom through his
parables like the Good Samaritan, the Mustard Seed and the Final Judgment. As well as the
Beatitudes, the Ten Commandments and the four EREA Touchstones. The Kingdom of God is
visible in today s world through the actions of the individuals: Pope Francis and Martin Luther
King Jr.
Through the use of parables, Jesus was able to teach about the Kingdom of God and what you can
do to enter the Kingdom. The parable of the Rich Fool teaches us that if you only care about
yourself and show no concern for others and God, then there is no place for you in the Kingdom
of God. The parable explains this as it tells of a man who was too attached to his wealth and no
one else, that when he died, his wealth was wasted as he cared for no one else and he couldn t
enter the Kingdom. The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us that to enter the Kingdom you
must help others no matter who they are. The story explains this as it tells of a man who was
robbed and beaten. The man is ignored by several people who pass him and don t show any
concern for him. One man approached him and helped him and took him to get healed. This Good
Samaritan would then be allowed into the Kingdom for his actions. The parable that heavily talks
of the Kingdom is the parable of the Final Judgement which tells us that however you treat
someone, you treat Jesus the same way as explained in the line For I was hungry and

Many myths exist concerning the eyes and proper care. For example, easing carrots will help an
individual have good eyesight, yet many other factors also play a role in the health of one s eyes.
Sitting too close to the television won t hurt the eyes either, although many believe doing so will
damage their eyesight. When visiting an optometrist, it s best to discuss any concerns you may
have about your eyes. Your doctor examines the eyes and can provide you individualized
information that will be of benefit to you. Although you may be experiencing one or more problems
similar to those a friend or family member is, your body is unique, thus you need information

Understanding the difference between an optometrist and an opthalmologist is of great importance.
An optometrist conducts full vision exams and prescribes eyeglasses and contact lenses, among

Losing Vietnam on the Home front
Forty six years have passed since the United States officially stopped their involvement in Vietnam.
Not since the Civil war had the country been so torn. Every American family was impacted, losing
husbands, sons, and daughters. Over fifty thousand Americans were killed and many more still
suffer deep physical and emotional scars . Veterans took their own lives, were treated as social
outcasts, or ended up on the streets with the homeless. The Vietnam conflict was a war that many
did not understand and that left a nation questioning the government they had always trusted.

involvement in the Vietnam War. Some advocates within this movement advocated a unilateral
withdrawal of U.S. forces from South Vietnam.
In 1965 the movement began to gain national prominence. Aggressive actions by police and
protesters turned the anti war demonstrations in Chicago at the 1968 Democratic National
Convention into a riot. News reports of American military abuses, such as the 1968 My Lai
Massacre, brought new attention and support to the anti war movement bringing it to its height.
The movement continued to prosper over the span of the conflict.
The Mб»№ Lai Massacre was the Vietnam War mass killing of between 347 and 504 unarmed
civilians in South Vietnam on March 16, 1968. Victims included men, women, children, and
infants. The massacre, which was later called the most shocking episode of the Vietnam War , took
place in two hamlets of SЖЎn Mб»№ village in QuбєЈng NgГЈi Province. These hamlets were
marked on the U.S. Army topographic maps as My Lai and My Khe. The U.S. military codeword
for the alleged Viet Cong stronghold in that area was Pinkville, and the carnage was initially
referred to as the Pinkville Massacre. Later, when the U.S. Army started its investigation, the media
changed it to the Massacre at Songmy. Currently, the event is referred to as the My Lai Massacre in
the United States and called the Son My Massacre in Vietnam.
High profile opposition to the Vietnam war turned to street protests in an effort to turn U.S.

My Favorite Trip At The Royal Palace Of Henry Viii
What a great weekend, I do not know which was my favorite event. One minute I was at the
Royal Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I
will remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to
travel to the Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the
place. My favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling
which day, month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us
wanted to see Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than
the ones now. When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all
race find the exit, which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we
all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decidedto chow down
on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After
lunch, we were taken on a long busjourney to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for
two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with
British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner
was a fabulous start to my weekend. After a wonderful selection of Canapes and an Amuse Bouche,

The Last Game vs. Reunion Contrast Essay
The Last Game And Reunion Stories of Contrast What is a father? A father is someone who is
more than just a person who created you. A father is a person who should be a mentor to you
and helps guide you through life. What isn t a father is one who simply puts their children aside
to live their own lives and have no part in their children s life and growth. The stories I will be
contrasting are The Last Game, by Jan Weiner and Reunion, by John Cheever. My first reason of
contrast is that in Last Game, the relationship between characters Jan Weiner and his father is that
of mutual admiration in which the son had great respect for his, his pride and braveness of choice
which is contrasted in Reunion, as the son Charlie... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I think this reason is important because it shows how a father should and should not present a
view of himself to his child. What this reason means to me is that the picture you paint of
yourself makes a drastic impact on what your child thinks of you. It might have a huge effect on
what decisions the child will make in the future whether positive or negative. Mostly this reason
might be what helps the child build a good morale and self esteem. To further prove my reason I

person who s holding their loved ones back while there are also people that go out of their way
to be the type of presence their loved ones need in their lives to become better people. The
second contrasting reason is in Last Game, the son s father is dealing with political problems in

Online Cash Advance Lenders Make a Mockery of Bans by States
A recent Washingtontimes.com article explored online lending and state bans of cash advance
companies operating within their jurisdictions. The article mentioned that many of these lenders
get around bans by ignoring state caps on interest rates and other regulations. Without storefront
options, cash advance lenders can still advertise online to deliver quick cash directly to borrowers
bank accounts even these kinds of loans are banned in the state. However, Google s decision to
ban payday lending ads could affect how these companies reach customers. Google recently decided
to ban loan advertising for loans with APRs higher than 36 percent according to a report from
Theguardian.com.
Despite state bans and fewer advertising opportunities to reach consumers, most people can still
search for these types of loans in browser based organic searches, and all evidence suggests that
they will continue doing so. Banned lenders simply find other ways to promote their products and
market loans directly to consumers in areas where their storefront operations are banned.
Millennials especially respond well to alternative financial services such as payday loans and
pawnshop borrowing according to research reported by Nationalpawnbrokers.org. Native American
tribes often partner with online lenders to offer loans to consumers in states where the industry is
banned.

Discovering Mortality in Once More to the Lake Essay
Discovering Mortality in Once More to the Lake
E. B. White s story Once More to the Lake is about a man who revisits a lake from his childhood
to discover that his life has lost placidity. The man remembers his childhood as he remembers the
lake; peaceful and still. Spending time at the lake as an adult has made the man realize that his life
has become unsettling and restless, like the tides of the ocean. Having brought his son to this place
of the past with him, the man makes inevitable comparisons between his own son and his
childhood self, and between himself as an adult and the way he remembers his father from his
childhood perspective. The man s experience at the lake with his son is the moment he discovers

I would be in the middle of some simple act, I would be picking up a bait box or laying down a
table fork, or I would be saying something and suddenly it would be not I but my father who was
saying the words or making the gesture (White 151).
When the man lay in bed early one morning, he heard his son sneak out to take a canoe out on the
lake, just as he used to do when he was a child. By living a dual existence the man could see from
two perspectives; his son sneaking out early in the morning, his father lying in bed listening to his
son sneak out. I began to sustain the illusion that he was I, and therefore, by simple transposition,
that I was my father (White 151). The man s alternate ways of viewing these events convinced him
that he was becoming his father.
This thought eventually leads to the man s realization that he will die someday, just as his father
did. A thunderstorm came over the lake one day when the man was a child. He remembered
swimming in the lake just after the storm passed, but while rain was still coming down. Just like the
scene from his childhood, another thunderstorm came over the lake, only instead of swimming in
the lake with the others, the man merely watched his son put on his bathing suit.

Lots of feelings between Hermia, Lysander, Helena and Demetrius are not mutual and are only a
series of unconnected lines from one person to another to another. This truly demonstrates the
hardships and complications of true love and how it does not always go as perfect as planned.
Many problems arise because of the mixups between the love juice and the fairies. One such
mixup is when Hermia and Lysander s plans to elope are very suddenly halted when Helena
hears of their plans and tells Demetrius, who decides to see if Helena s rumors are true.
Demetrius then goes into the woods, followed by Helena, to see if it is true, but does not find

Titania, sees Helena and her obsessive love for Demetrius, and so makes a plan to help Helena
with her love issues. When Oberon, of which is busy with other tasks, tells Puck to put the

Elijah s tragic descent to madness forewarns the dangers of assuming an identity drastically
different from one s true morality. From the beginning, Elijah felt that there was a need to fit in
with the other soldiers by adopting a British persona when speaking to others. In a shared code
with Grey Eyes, Elijah says, Dear Henry, [...] would you be a kind chap and make me a cup of
tea? (144). Although his British accent appears to be a convoluted joke, Elijah is really abandoning
his Cree language in favour of a British accent to please his peers. Despite the native language being
an essential part of his childhood identity, Elijah succumbs to the white man s perceived notions of
the Cree language being related to witchcraft as he strips away his native language to fit in with the
others. This sudden transformation to match a white man s identity ultimately results in an identity
crisis that drives him to insanity. Xavier illustrates this when he notices that,

The Psychology Of Conversion Therapy
What Conversation Therapy Actually Does
While reading Hard Rock Return to Prison by Etheridge Knight one may start to think of the
effects of correcting or convert someone s behavior to a more favorable one. This idea is present
in today s society and to better understand this believe and practice one will have to explore the
psychology of conversion therapy. Conversion Therapy or reparative therapy is a range of
dangerous and discredited practices that falsely claim to change a person s sexual orientation or
gender identity or expression (Human Rights Campaign). This defines what Hard Rock
experiences in this poem and to further understand and deepen ones understand modern psychology
and medicine offer a way of explain this. Through explore the effects and what happens to someone
during correction therapy one can be educated more on Hard Rock.
Conversion therapy which is primary used to convert homosexual or bisexual males and females to
become heterosexual has been proven not to work by many modern day experts in the field of
psychology and psychiatry. David Michael Conner, a writer for the Huffington Post in the LGBQ
department, explains conversion therapy as the following It involves electrocuting and drugging
LGBT people to make them suffer while looking at homosexual pornography in order to convert
them to heterosexuality (Conner). Those who are homosexual are tortured in attempts to correct
them of their illness .
Hard Rock suffered from a problem, which

Are Zombies Really Humans Research Paper
Are zombies really humans?
Has anyone stopped and really thought why zombies looked like humans but were so different?
Why is the thought and idea of zombies being immortal so scary to some people? Are humans
and zombies really at a distance as living things? Zombies originated from humans. Based on
Oxford Dictionaries, a zombie is a corpse without a soul. Which they describe soul as being a
spiritual or immaterial aspect of being a human or animal. According to wikipedia.com, it is
believed that zombies are really people who are brought back to life with supernatural powers or
witchcraft . Seeing that zombies originated from humans they have the aspects and idea of

Nowadays, attackers may use many means and methods to jamming and intercept the data
transmitting in the optical fiber. Ethernet is a medium shared network, the data packets that
sending to any users will also be broadcasted to everyone in the network. These packets contain the
address information of the intended users. At the client side, users will collect their own packets
based on the address information. Therefore, users may easily get the data belong to the others. For
the security of the optical Ethernet, physical security must be considered first. The purpose of
physical security is to ensure the security and performance of the transmitting data on the physical
layer, and be able to alert users when such objects cannot be guaranteed. The meanwhile, the
transmitting data on the physical level need to be further processed. This process is called
information security. By processing information security, the attackers will not be able to read the
data even they actually catch the packets. Information security can be done by encryption.
Therefore, physical security and information security must be done simultaneously. II.ANALYSIS
OF PHYSICAL SECURITY Optical network generally use WDM technology. The existing optical
components are not perfect, the crosstalk exist between each channels in WDM. This crosstalk may

The Wadsworth Athenaeum Of Art
The Wadsworth Athenaeum of Art has been in existence since 1842. Located in Hartford,
Connecticut, it is the nation s oldest public art museum. The founder, Daniel Wadsworth, was a
world renowned art patron who acquired many famous works that would put his museum at the
forefront of all its competitors. The museum has a impeccable reputation as a leader for innovation
and experimentation due to its previous Director, A. Everett Chick Austin, Jr. Austin always pushed
the envelop by continuing to feature new styles of art and different mediums of art. Currently, the
museum is home to almost 50,000 pieces that vary from paintings to historical artifacts. The
collection features pieces from over 5,000 years and is a big piece of not only Connecticut s, but
also a part of American history.
The museum has many different collections but the one I was most impressed by its extensive
collection of American Art that features paintings from the Hudson River School, Georgia O Keefe,
and Norma Rockwell, but also sculptures by other famous artist. During High School, I took an
Environmental Science course that did not only cover the scientific aspects of the subject, but also
the how the environment has been immortalized. We studied the Hudson River School and artist
like Thomas Cole, Frederic Edwin Church, and Albert Bierstadt, whose works all featured the many

General Marion a Revolutionary Tactician During the Revolutionary War
During the revolutionary war American military officers had to evolve their tactics in order to out
maneuver the large British forces to win the war. General Francis Marion would become known as
one of the more famous revolutionist of his time. Taxes imposed by the Crown were enacted to
recoup expenditures from the French and Indian War, but the American colonist despised the
British authorities for their heavy handed tactics (Savas Dameron, 2006). Within the three years
prior to revolution, the British government imposed the Sugar Act, Currency Act, and Quartering
Act upon the American colonists. The Massachusetts House of Representatives denounced further

Most of the Cherokee nation of an estimated 10,000 people favored the British. However, there was
a segment of the population that held the French in higher regard. This was based primarily on their
trade relations and the fact that the British had established four settlements deep in Cherokee
hunting grounds. The tensions between the British and Cherokee were further inflamed by an
accidental massacre when a group of Cherokee warriors were mistaken for those of another tribe. A
call went out for British reinforcements and the desire for South Carolina to send its own militia. It
was in this militia that Lieutenant Marion now served.
As Cherokee Warriors lay in ambush along a narrow pass Lieutenant Marion s South Carolina
Ranger Company was chosen to lead the way. Marion s unite was moving north when met by a
force of approximately a thousand Cherokees. His unit took severe casualties but cleared a way for
the main force to continue its advance.
The French and Indian War had done several important things. It cleared the French from North
America, establishing the British Empire. It trained colonist in the ways of war by teaching them
how to fight for a unified cause, and it created the circumstance that would spark the American
Revolution. The actions of the British following the war including taxation to pay for the war, the

Injection Moulding
(i) Injection Molding Demonstration
Battenfeld HM 40/130 is the machine used in the laboratory session to mold Polypropylene.
Thermoplastic materials such as nylon, polystyrene, polythene and polypropylene can be used in a
process called injection molding.
How injection molding works?
1.The hopper is filled with granules of plastic powder. The hopper stores the material until it is
needed.
2.The heater starts heating up the tube until it reaches a high temperature, then a screw thread starts
turning.
3.The granules are pushed along the heater section by a motor, which pushes the granules along the
heater section. The heater melts the granules until they reach the liquid state. This liquid is then

1)Bubbles:
Plastic samples with various imperfections were inspected. In this case, the imperfection is called
Bubbles or Blisters. The top right figure shows two different plastic samples, a appeared with the
Bubbles imperfection, while b is how it is supposed to be.
Possible causes and cures of the Bubbles imperfection:
Cause: The molten material can become overly fluid when high injection temperatures are used.
Thus, air and gases become trapped in the melt stream since the material is now very turbulent due
to the high injection temperatures, and these trapped gases will appear in the molded part as voids,
as shown in the figures above.
Cure: Reduce the injection temperature in order for the material to stiffen, thus the trapped air and
gases will escape.
Cause: Insufficient material is a cause of the Bubbles imperfection. There will not be sufficient
material to be completely forced into the cavity. Thus, gases will be trapped and for voids which will

The Key Areas Separating Bosses From Leaders
By examining the definitions of the words, you ll already be able to notice the intricacies at play.
While at the outset the two words can seem rather similar and interchangeable, the closer
examination highlights differences that give both roles a different meaning. So, what are the key
areas separating bosses from leaders? The major differences between the two can be divided into
six core areas of the focus, the driving force, the approach to work and objectives, the source of their
authority, the communication and delegation style, and their accountability.
The focus
When it comes to an organisation, the key consideration is often the focus of the organisation.
What is it for and why? The underlying focus is what drives an organisation, but also the
individual to perform the required tasks. The focus gives direction and largely determines the
approach to work. So, what is the focus for the two?
For a boss the end objective is profit. A boss is in a role, which is about guaranteeing the
organisation the best financial results that ll help guarantee the continuation of the business. That s
behind the boss interest in supervising things getting done. The boss is not interested in how the
subordinates get from Point A to Point B because the result is all that matters. If you are able to
achieve the goals and do it in an efficient manner, then the boss is happy as this guarantees the
organisation enjoys a profit. The orientation of the boss is about achieving the goals,

For millions of people in the United States, the property boom of the 2000 s ended without much
warning. All over the country, tent cities are emerging as the abode of those most unprepared for
the collapse of housing prices and the resulting decrease in employment opportunities. The housing
crisis effect on national economies threatens to plunge the global economy into a malaise unseen

For example, a collateralized debt obligation is a bond that is issued on the performance of a debt
obligation, such as an automobile loan, commercial or residential mortgage, credit card loan, or
student loan. CDOs, backed by real estate, create a number of ethical quandaries: 1) they are
contingent upon the performance of the buyer to fulfill their responsibilities of the contract; 2)
they are contingent upon the value of the property; 3) market appetite for these assets can affect
the health of the company, possibly triggering a recall of the very loans the bonds are based upon;
4) they are not subjected to rigorous regulation by the SEC or other government agency. Some of
these bonds were underwritten, or protected from default, by private banks, while government
sponsored enterprises such as Fannie May and Freddie Mac underwrote the remainder of them.
Banks profit from the joy of rising prices when the value of CDOs rise. The operation of buying
and selling these assets yields tremendous profits for banks and encourages a continuation of the
cycle. When times are good, the property owners are ecstatic about the equity gained by rising
prices. Some even choose to take out a second mortgage, creating another opportunity for issuance
of a CDO, or similar financial instrument. However, all good things come to

income of agricultural workers whereas the top bracket class observed a steady gain whereas in
2008 (Waggoner J, 2008), inflation adjusted income for middle class workers dripped by 1

percent of the country s wealth. However the current figures reveal that in 2008 the richest 0.1

the contrary government bonds did fairly well. During depression Bond prices did rise

social welfare policies in transition countries of central Asia. I am concerned with the status of

In most transition countries, the political and economic collapse of

How Does Edmund Kemper Contribute To The Witch Archetype
I link Edmund Kemper to the to the witch archetype because the the film Carrie, Ed had a very
controlling yet protective mother. A trait of the witch is a figure of resentment and ridicule which
I connect to both Carrie s mother and Ed s. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she
sees her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that
she experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a
constant reminder of that. Naturally a trait from the witch is supernatural powers, even though
Edmund Kemper doesn t have supernatural powers he does carry non supernatural powers. By
having the ability to manipulate and exploit others which makes them feel powerful.

mother s purse and take items from the house. He does all of this to feed his addiction to cocaine.
His family doesn t want to give up on him but they are divided about what to do to help him
overcome this addiction. His addiction has split the family down the middle some wanting to
continue enabling him and others wanting to let him go completely. The one thing they do agree
on is if Chad continues down this path of destruction his actions would result in his death. A
person s cocaine addiction creates disorder and chaos for the entire family. When a person
succumbs to the addiction of cocaine family responsibilities are pushed to the back burner. The
addiction then becomes priority over everything that was once important. Children are neglected,
abandoned, and in some cases mentally and physically abused (Nazario, 1997). Cocaine addition
causes a person who once enjoyed spending time with family to become isolated and withdrawn
because they would rather be doing drugs with other addicts. Drug use is very harmful because it
will eventually take over a person s life. When a person becomes desperate to use drugs he or she,
will do anything to get them. They will steal money or items to sell to get their hands on drugs

Leadership And Being A Leader
When it comes to leadership and being a leader I feel that a strong leader whom is inspiring is
one with a strong emotional intelligence. A leader who demands attention with strong emotion isn
t looked upon as a strong leader since they have intense drastic changes in mood which fear
followers and make people drift away. I feel that this is just a competencies that many overcome
and turn into strong leaders whom have made a big impact. A leader with a strong emotional
effectiveness often ends up on top since they are more capable of solving drastic complex problems
and are able to adapt to situations changing faster than someone without emotional intelligence
effecting them. To see a leader have a personal behavior competencies such as emotional
intelligence strike and come out on top when many feel a leader with emotionwouldn t be as strong
is boundless since it shows that strong leaders do have emotions and also do face personal issues
which make them relatable and in my opinion, more relatable/likeable since they can come to a
level of personal experience when dealing with employees or peers.
Personal Definition of Leadership
In my opinion, Leadership is someone who takes action, is influential, motivational, and has success
and partakes in equal responsibility in a group or organization. This means that as a leader they
guide and motivate team members in a positive uplifting way but if they make mistakes they
positively guide them in the correct direction. One

Puritan Beliefs In John Winthrop s A City Set On A Hill
A City set on a Hill is a phrase that became popularized in the American politics, and it emanates
from the parable of Salt and Light in the New Testament. In Matthew 5:14, Jesus tells the crowd
that was listening to him, You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden
(New King James Version). John Winthrop, an English Puritanlawyer, had a vision for Boston that
it would be A City Set on a Hill. This is a vision that has over the years been replicated by the
United Statesof America as it has strived to set an example on the world stage as a beacon of
freedom and hope for the entire world. The phrase a city set on a hill refers to a society that others
people will look up to (Morgan 76). By using this phrase, Winthrop describes the MassachusettsBay
colony, which he supposed would turn out to be an outstanding example of Puritan faultlessness.
Although this phrase has a religious undertone, it can be used to describe the aspects that the
United States ought to emulate.
A Model of Christian Charity is a sermon that was delivered by John Winthrop in 1630 while he
was on board of the ship Arbella which was sailing to the Massachusetts Bay Colony. This
sermon is best known for its application of the phrase City upon a Hill regarding the founding of
the United States, and later used in the description of American exceptionalism (Morgan 112). A
city set on a hill stated they intended to live the way God wanted them to live as well as

Invisable Man
At the time that Ralph Ellison writes the novel The Invisible Man there were, as there are today,
many ideas on how to improve the black mans status in a segregated nation. Marcus Garvey was a
militant black nationalist leader who created a amp;quot;Back to Africa amp;quot; movement. On
the other side was Booker T. Washingtonwho preached for racial uplift through educational
attainments and economic advancement. A man who strayed more on the middle path was W.E.B

Du Bois. He was less militant than Marcus Garveybut was more so than Booker T. Washington.
Ellison uses characters from the novel to represent these men. Marcus Garvey is fictionalized as

Here was a man who was happy to be black: not only happy but also proud. Garvey s racial pride
movement helped the Harlem Renaissance. Blacks started to express their feelings and
thoughts through art and music. This was a time when whites really took a look at black art and
culture. Garvey s most extreme movement was the amp;quot;Back to Africa amp;quot;
movement. He called all blacks to return to their true homeland, Africa. To help make this
possible Garvey created the Black Star Line in 1919 to provide transportation. He also started
the Negro Factories Corporation to encourage black economic independence. Garvey attracted
thousands of supporters and had two million members for the UNIA. Garvey s rise to fame was
amazing; speaking to an audience in Colon, Panama in 1921 Garvey said amp;quot;two years ago
in New York nobody paid any attention to us. When I use to speak, even the policeman on the beat
never noticed me. amp;quot; Depending on whom you talked to Garvey was the new Moses of
blacks or a complete madman. In amp;quot; After Marcus Garvey What? amp;quot; an article in
Contemporary Review, Kelly Miller writes that:
Marcus Garvey came to the U.S. less than ten years ago, unheralded, unfriended, without
acquaintance, relationship, or means of livelihood. This Jamaican immigrant was thirty years old,
partially educated, and 100 per cent black. He possessed neither comeliness of appearance nor

Minimum Benefits Of Minimum Wages
Minimum wages are described as the minimum amount of remuneration that an employer is
required to pay wage earners for the work/services performed during a given tenure, which cannot
be reduced by collective agreement or an individual contract . Minimum wages can be established
by statute, competent decision authority, a wageboard, a wage council, or by industrial or labour
courts.
The significance of minimum wages is to shield workers against disproportionately low pay.
They help safeguard an equitable and just share of the fruits of progress to all, and a minimum
living wage to all who are employed and in need of such protection. Minimum wages can also be a
part of a policy to overcome poverty and reduce inequality, including those ... Show more content

This potential loss decreases both firms surplus and workers surplus. The increase in job search will
waste resources and time which contributes to the inefficiency of minimum wage.

In both cases of minimum wage, there is an overall increase in labour supply and an overall
reduction in demand of labour. Hence, implementing or increasing minimum wage results in loss of
jobs theoretically. However, it also relies on the country s economic activity which may or may not
result in loss of jobs. Additionally, case 2 reflects the scenario where the government delivers
unemployment benefits to its unemployed citizens. In this case the dead weight loss is catered by
the government which in return puts a great deal of financial burden on the government.

Essay on Writing Portfolio
A professional writing portfolio is a very useful tool for a writer. It helps the writer prepare well
for their entry into the professional world. A portfolio also allows the writer to be more organized
with their work. A website, Rhetoric and Writing , talks about the importance of having a
Professional WritingPortfolio. It discusses how many professionals/superiors will use a portfolio to
assess a writers aptitudes and skills. The site also discusses how portfolios are important for job
searchers because they are more personal, and much more insightful, and therefore a better way
for employers to evaluate interviewees than a regular resume. (Rhetoric) It provides an exhibition

In his article on publishing, Bruce Robertson also advised on the inclusion of many different
kinds of writing in the portfolio. Heeding this counsel, I assembled a diverse cross section of my
writings for the portfolio; among these are a children s story, several different poems concerning
different themes (innocence, love, death, etc), several different types of poetry (metaphor, sonnet,
rhyme, non rhyme, structured lines/stanzas, etc) and some miscellaneous writings (such as a
continuation to Dr. Seuss s The Lorax ). Robertson focuses on the trends that tend to cycle
through the publishing business and suggests diversity for this purpose. None of my sources had
any particular ideas about how a portfolio should be organized, which led me to the opinion that
the organization was left to the preference of the individual who is assembling the portfolio.
Also, as pieces are added to the portfolio, the organization is subject to change. Professor Michael
Fallon, head of the English department at UMBC, has suggested beginning with the strongest
work. Lee Masterson was able to offer some insight on using a professional portfolio. (Fiction)
Masterson advised that a person should start small and focus on showing their portfolios to small
markets at first so that they can get the feedback they really need to make a fantastic portfolio

Ability s Inability ( Rough Draft )
Ability s Inability (Rough Draft)
When considering Christian allegories that have been written through the years, one has stood out
from the rest. This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many
readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is,
with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement:
Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes
which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s
Progress was written by John Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The
Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of
a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s
Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not
originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences
between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two
different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the
individual.
John Bunyan s readers wanted the story in The Pilgrim s Progress to continue beyond the original
tale. Two years after publishing the original story, Bunyan wrote his first sequel to The Pilgrim s

idea. Also, anyone who doesn t physically feel comfortable jumping or ducking should opt out of

America is one of the most powerful countries in the world, with the ability to make or break other
nations and to completely dictate the world economy; however, many fail to realize that this
magnificent country is in danger of falling into the wrong hands. One of the most talked about and
debated topics of today is the race for presidency, and the nominations for the Democratic Party
concerning Senator Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Hillary Clinton. With a very tight race, the two
being quite popular among different states and groups of people, it s almost impossible to tell who

According to Huffington Post, Sanders beats Trump in this [NBC News/Wall St.] poll by 16
points, as opposed to Clinton s 10 point lead and the Democratic Socialist from Vermont defeats
Trump in all the polls by an average of 5.2 points, as opposed to the 2.5 points for Clinton.
Although many people refuse to believe it, Trump actually does have a very terrifying chance of
winning the Republican nomination, especially considering the amount of people supporting
him already. Sanders thankfully beats Trump by 5.2 points, which is more than twice as many
points that Clinton has, giving him more of a chance of winning presidency. By voting for
Hillary, you re putting everything on the table, in danger of losing it all! Not only does Bernie
have a better chance of winning against Trump and the other Republican potentials, he s always
been on the right side of history, knowing what decisions would impact both America and the
world negatively, and vise versa. For example, Sanders had voted against the Iraq War, knowing
that there would be unavoidable consequences if America jumped in and fought. Clinton,
however, had voted for the Iraq War and actually said, I made it very clear that I made a mistake,
plain and simple. And I have written about it in my book, I have talked about it in the past.
Another example would be the Keystone XL Pipeline, which would be a pipeline carrying heavy
oil from Canada to the refineries on the Gulf Coast of Texas, that would threaten water acquirers.
Bernie had always been against Keystone, unlike his opponent who only recently decided to change
her mind like many other issues. Making mistakes is simply not justifiable for the President of the
United States, because those mistakes are almost impossible to fix without full blown wars and the
future of the country being jeopardized. Hillary acts as though

Montaigne s Own Unorthodox Childhood Education
Montaigne s own unorthodox childhood education played a role in shaping the way he thought
about learning and about life. He spent his infancy in the countryside, his childhood immersed in
Latin, and his adolescence in classes with older students at the CollГЁge de Guyenne. Because of
his father s nontraditional ideas about education, as Bakewell states, Montaigne grew up to be an
independent minded adult, following his own path in everything rather than deferring to duty and
discipline (55). He was a man who thoughtdifferently about the world around him and was
comfortable with and successful in writing not only about something different, himself, but in a
way that had never been done before, the personal essay. Montaigne s... Show more content on

The minds of students are like white paper, or wax, to be moulded and fashioned as one pleases
(Locke 179). Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays:
Teachers are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel:
our task is merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply
have to commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command.
In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the
church. The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the
ancients in writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and
experienced this pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the CollГЁge de
Guyenne. His exposure to this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended
institutions of learning, and is also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the
smattering of quotes from those like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne
claims that this concept of knowledge is of little use. He contends that students of this method are
not nourished and fed by what they learn: the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one
end in view: to show it off [...] having no other use or currency (154). In short, students are not
actually learning anything under this

while satire in Modern Times is about the things happening around the little tramp and the things
the little tramp is doing. They are also similar as they both use many types of satirical devices such
as ironyand both use humor to entertain the idea of satire.
In book I satire I, Horace begins essentially complaining about others complaining about
themselves. How come, Maecenas, no one alive s ever content with the lot he chose or the fate

Ancient Egypt Pottery Research Paper
When you think of the ancient Egyptians you most likely think of the pyramids, what you might
not know is that Egyptians are also known for their pottery. Egyptians have been making pottery
since far before the pyramids, and were one of the first peoples to make pottery (Quatr). Two of the
main types of potteryconstructed in ancient Egyptwere amphoras and pithos. Pottery in ancient
Egyptwas constructed with techniques similar to those used today, and was used to house large
stores of provisions, as well as storing small necessary items. The ancient Egyptian culture
flourished from 5500 BCE, with the rise of technology such as glasswork, to 30 BCE when

For easy storage, these pots would sometimes have a tapered bottom in order to stick the pot into
a hole in the ground or mud where it would stand up (Hood). Pot stands of clay or wood were

(Carnegie). The overall shape of the amphora differed greatly. From wide shallow bowls for
serving food in the kitchen or banquet hall to small jugs that held beer, wine, or water for
drinking (History). There are records of the amphora being as small as three inches tall. It is
predicted that this small container size was used for perfume (Reshafim). In the later years the
amphora would often have handles on either side for both decoration and function (Reshafim).
The most notable thing about these common storage containers is how prevalent they were in
everyday ancient Egyptian life. Pithos, on the other hand, were immense casks, vases, or tubs
that could be up to six feet in diameter (Hood). Meats, fruits, vegetables, and other provisions
were stored in pithos, which were often located in the cellar. Ordinarily, pithos were constructed
with reddish brown clay from readily available Nile river clay or marl clay, which was usually
polished to give it a lustrous look (Hood). These containers were

  • 2. Analysis of Virginia Woolf’s A Room of One’s Own Essay Analysis of Virginia Woolf s A Room of One s Own Throughout history, female artists have not been strangers to harsh criticism regarding their artistic works. Some female artists are fortunate to even receive such criticism; many have not achieved success in sharing their works with the world. In Virgina Woolfs third chapter of her essay A Room of One s Own, Woolf addresses the plight of the woman writer, specifically during the Elizabethan time period of England. Woolf helps the reader appreciate her view on how stifling and difficult this time period was for women and how what little creativity emerged would have been distorted in some way. Through a number of claims, examples and other literary techniques, Woolf is able to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Woolf contends that she is on the track of a lost novelist, a suppressed poet, of some mute and inglorious Jane Austen or Emily Bronte who.......mowed about the highways crazed with the torture that her gift put her to (53). Woolf uses many historical and literary examples such as Jane Austen and Emily Bronte numerous times in her work to contrast the fame and fortune of successful authors, with the unknown lives of ghost writers. Woolf supports this claim by focusing on the anonymous writer named Anon (anonymous), that we as readers have seen so many times in literature. Could this Anon have been a woman, this Anon that has written so many poems and ballads? From Woolf s point of view, whatever she had written would have been twisted and deformed, issuing from a strained and morbid imagination (54). She does not reach a conclusion as to the lack of women writers before the 18th century, she can only make assumptions on the time period and enlighten her audience to make sure that women are able to express their creativity without any constraints issued by society. The reader can tell that Woolf feels very strongly about the mistreatment of women in the past, which often makes for an effective argument. Her strong ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Parable Of The Kingdom Of God Jesus taught about the Kingdom of God that you must help others to enter the Kingdom through his parables like the Good Samaritan, the Mustard Seed and the Final Judgment. The Kingdom of God is visible in today s world through the actions of the individuals: Pope Francis and Martin Luther King Jr. Through the use of parables, Jesus was able to teach about the Kingdom of God and what you can do to enter the Kingdom. The parable of the Good Samaritan teaches us that to enter the Kingdom you must help others no matter who they are. The story explains this as it tells of a man who was robbed and beaten. The man is ignored by several people who pass him and don t show any concern for him. One man approached him and helped him and took him to get healed. One minute I was at the Royal Palace of Henry VIII and another minute I was in Stonehenge. No matter what happen, I will remember this weekend for the rest of my life. Thursday, we all woke up really early to travel to the Royal Palace of Henry VIII. Our tour guide Heather, gave us the entire tour of the place. My favorite part of the tour was the clock due to the fact it was a 24 hour clock telling which day, month, and season it is. After the tour, we had two hours of free time and most of us wanted to see Henry VIII toilet and all I can say is that toilets during that time was different than the ones now. When we all saw the toilet, all the frat boys decided to go to the maze and we all race find the exit, which took us three times longer since we passed by it three time. At the end, we all admit that Ryan Straub Fisher beat all of us. Following a morning run, I decidedto chow down on my first Fish Chips which the fish was so tender and the batter was cooked spot on. After lunch, we were taken on a long busjourney to Holbrook house where we are all going to stay for two nights. Tour guide Heather gave us an etiquette dinner lesson, so they next time I dine with British people, I know what to expect. During dinner we decided to dress up nicely and that dinner was a fabulous start to my weekend. A father is a person who should be a mentor to you and helps guide you through life. What isn t a father is one who simply puts their children aside to live their own lives and have no part in their children s life and growth. The stories I will be contrasting are The Last Game, by Jan Weiner and Reunion, by John Cheever. Spending time at the lake as an adult has made the man realize that his life has become unsettling and restless, like the tides of the ocean. Having brought his son to this place of the past with him, the man makes inevitable comparisons between his own son and his childhood self, and between himself as an adult and the way he remembers his father from his childhood perspective. When the man lay in bed early one morning, he heard his son sneak out to take a canoe out on the lake, just as he used to do when he was a child. By living a dual existence the man could see from two perspectives; his son sneaking out early in the morning, his father lying in bed listening to his son sneak out. I began to sustain the illusion that he was I, and therefore, by simple transposition, that I was my father (White 151). The man s alternate ways of viewing these events convinced him that he was becoming his father. Since graduation from National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies, I have gained considerable research experience in Public finance and management. Specifically, I am interested in study of social welfare policies in transition countries of central Asia. I am concerned with the status of vulnerable groups of population particularly, the aged, women, children, the disabled, and the poor. In most transition countries, the political and economic collapse of 90s had the devastating effects on the certain groups of population. The sharp decline in size of the government has greatly affected and in some sense triggered the transformation of the scope of social welfare policies. In the movie her mother resented Carrie because she sees her as a punishment from one of her greatest sins. With Edmund, he witnessed all the pain that she experienced within her life from a failed marriage with his father and felt as if he was a constant reminder of that. A leader who demands attention with strong emotion isn t looked upon as a strong leader since they have intense drastic changes in mood which fear followers and make people drift away. I feel that this is just a competencies that many overcome and turn into strong leaders whom have made a big impact. The phrase a city set on a hill refers to a society that others people will look up to (Morgan 76). This piece of literature has stood the test of time and remained beloved by many readers. In Class Formation, Politics, Structures of Feeling Geoff Eley states Pilgrim s Progress is, with Rights of Man, one of the two foundational texts of the English working class movement: Bunyan and Paine, with Cobbett and Owen, contributed most to the stock of ideas and attitudes which make up the raw material of the movement from 1790 1850 (Eley 217). The Pilgrim s Progress was written by John Bunyan in February of 1678. At the time, Bunyan titled it The Pilgrim s Progress from This World to That Which Is to Come; Delivered under the Similitude of a Dream . In modern publications of the work, Bunyan s sequel to the work titled simply Pilgrim s Progress, Part II has been added at the end of the original tale. Although the two tales were not originally published back to back, reading them one after the other shows the striking differences between them. Bunyan specifically used different events, people, and circumstance in the two different parts to symbolically show how Christian life can vary greatly depending upon the individual. Montaigne also explains this paradigm using a parallel simile in The Essays: Teachers are for ever bawling into our ears as though pouring knowledge down through a funnel: our task is merely to repeat what we have been told (169). In the traditional model, students simply have to commit information to memory and be able to recite it on command. In Montaigne s time, students would study classical texts and learn from institutions like the church. The idea of being well educated meant you were able to recite the knowledge of the ancients in writing and conversation. Montaigne was familiar with this method of learning and experienced this pedagogy during his more structured educational years at the CollГЁge de Guyenne. His exposure to this model is evident because of the time period in which he attended institutions of learning, and is also suggested by his own extensive reading of classical texts and the smattering of quotes from those like Plato and Aristotle throughout The Essays, yet Montaigne claims that this concept of knowledge is of little use. He contends that students of this method are not nourished and fed by what they learn: the learning is passed from hand to hand with only one end in view: to show it off [...] having no other use or currency (154).
