will teach him some very important lessons and values in life.

Williams constantly supervising his son and teaching him how to be humble, Movie News Guide

One of the reasons why Majors was chosen for the role is his close resemblance to Campbell. His
character will be struggling with Ash, but will also give him useful tips on dealing with the Deadites,
according to the International Business Times.
While Ash thinks his father is crazy, Majors character actually knows a few secret things about his
son. The upcoming season will shed some light on Ash s life before the Deadites entered the scene, the

Heating Appliances Carry A Disease Transmission Risk
A Thermoplastic device is one of the immobilization devices used to immobilize cancer patients
during radiation therapy treatment, such as head and neck cancers. One way to form a thermoplastic
device is to use one of the heating devices that are specifically designed to fabricate customized
thermoplastic immobilization in the optimal conditions. The patients may be at risk of infection from
heating devices used to produce their masks. In this study, authors assess individual facility practices
where water baths or other heating appliances are used to fabricate thermoplastic immobilization
devices to determine whether heating appliances carry a disease transmission risk. The author s
purpose, approach or methods, hypothesis, and major conclusions. Purpose To determine whether
heating appliances used to fabricate customized thermoplastic immobilization devices carry a disease
transmission risk. Background Current literature provides ample evidence that water baths used in
health care settings are potential reservoirs for microorganisms associated with patient infections.
Such results suggest a similar potential for heating appliances used to fabricate thermoplastic forms.
Methods The authors conducted on site surveys of both equipment and procedures used to produce
immobilization forms in several medical facilities. Each heating appliance was sampled for its
microbial content and the data analyzed for growth trends. Results Twelve heating appliances were
sampled. Five (42%)

The Impacts of Workaholism
In no other time in history have we witnessed such a drive towards overwork. Some may get a sense
of satisfaction from it, but many become less happy and have to suffer much. With the appearance of
this phenomenon, the term workaholic has been coined to describe these people. Since it was familiar
to men, more research have been done to this popular issue workaholism, and it has been proved that
workaholism has great effects on human. This essay gives definitions of workaholism and reveals its
positive and negative impacts on our well being in terms of health, personal relationship and society.
In spite of them being two sides to workaholism, I am convinced that its negative impacts far
outweigh its positive ones.
The descriptions of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, all these factors will reduce enterprises cohesive force and productivity. Moreover, huge costs
have to be spent on recruiting, selecting and training new employees (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005,
p.32).
Even though workaholism has some good influences, it exerts much more negative influences on
humans.
To start with, excessive work has great impacts on people s mental health. On the one hand, it
produces huge pressure on men and affects their moods seriously. Workaholics always suffer from
obsessive worry, mood fluctuations (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005, p.31) and this will lead to a poor
quality of life. Worse of all, those who are uninterruptedly under pressure are likely to get paranoid,
manic or even schizophrenic (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005, p.36). On the other hand, researchers
have showed that mental disorder caused by overwork has a direct connection with pregnancy and
miscarriage. Hamilton and Denniss believe that long working hours reduce the possibility of
pregnancy and increase the risk of preterm births, also it effects infants growth (2005, p.15). It is
rueful and ridiculous that mother s addiction to work threatens babies lives.
Next, the negative physical health ramifications are caused by overwork. It enhances the probability of
having serious and fatal disease. Evidence has reflected that employees who work overly, compared
with those who work regularly, are more likely

Characters Roles In Tony Kushner s Angels In America
Angels in America, by Tony Kushner, is a play written during the AIDS/ HIV epidemic in the 1980 s.
Different than most plays, most of the actors posses more than just one or even two roles. These roles
taken on by the same actors emphasize the difference in the characters being played. Some of the
characters being played by the same actors are minor roles which fill a need that one of the main
characters aquires a longing for. The use of multiple characters being played by the same actors
displays the way in which their different characters affect the needs that a psychological deficiency
proposes.
One actor plays the part of two characters; Joe, Harper s husband, and the eskimo, a character who
only appears in Harper s hallucination in order to meet her psychological need while there. Joe is a
closeted homosexual who ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Joe tells Harper despite them being married, he never had sexual feelings for her, but was marrying
her in order to suppress feelings inside of himself. Harper is so hurt from this information she
immediately wants to leave, and therefore calls Mr. Lies to take her away from Joe. In Antarctica,
Harper seems to be sincerely happy, but also feels a strong need for a friend, I can have anything I

Timmy Monologue
I hesitantly approach the single closed door in the empty hallway. The laughter of campers had filled
the dormitory just a while before; however, now that midnight was closing in, it had transformed into
a serious atmosphere. The silence pounds louder than the shrieking bunch of kids at the peak of their
puberty. Hey, is everything okay in here? I ask as I knock, but receive no response other than muffled
cries. Poking my head into the room, I switch on the lights. Scanning the room, I notice someone
buried under their sheets on the twin bed to the right. I realize that we re not alone; a head counselor is
in the back grading my performance. Her presence immediately makes me ten times more nervous. As

If someone walks in at that moment, they would think we re five year olds who have just let off a
color bomb. Woah, this is Timmy s! Look at how pretty it came out, I gasp as I take the tie dyed cloth
out of its zip lock bag. I unravel all the rubber bands which bound the cloths in its specific folds and
soak it in the sink, watching the aesthetic streams of color fume into the water. Rinsing each dyed
fabric until no more pigment came out, we lay them across the bathroom counter to dry and start on
another batch of ten. Halfway through scrubbing the color out of the second group, Elissa goes and
checks on the previous ones we ve finished. How are they? I ask, excited to hear how they turn out.
Kara! All of a sudden, she slumps down onto the floor and stares at the cloth with an emotionless face.
I put down what I m working on and turn around, devastated by the sight I saw. Oh, my lord, I say
under my breath, leaning my head against the wall. Although we had already been washing these
bandanas with perusal, making sure the color gets out thoroughly, they somehow manage to drip all

Character Analysis Of Lady Macbeth
In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the character Lady Macbeth and her various qualities
are used to reinforce the idea that being ambitious can be beneficial, however it can also have dire
consequences. This Shakespearean tragedy is set in Scotland during the Middle Ages, and follows the
tale of Macbeth, a Scottish Thane, who succumbs to temptation in an attempt to fulfil a set of
prophecies and become King. During the play he becomes consumed by his dark desires and
murderous ambitions, which ultimately lead both himself and his wife to their deaths. The author s
various messages surrounding being ambitious are shown through; the immense determination of
Lady Macbeth, her successful manipulation of her husband, and her callous nature. These qualities
and their implied messages to the audience are explored in the play through the use of; dialogue,
symbolism and other various language features.
One of Lady Macbeth s greatest strengths is her drive and determination to succeed in life. Moreover,
she was willing to do anything, even kill her own child and dash d the brains out of it to get what she
desired. Consequently this shows the immense lengths to which she is prepared to go to and it is also
highlights of the fact that sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order for your objectives to be
realised. The greatest sacrifice which Lady Macbeth makes is to that of her feminism, Make thick my
blood, stop up the access and passage to remorse. This imagery of blood is an extreme example which
shows that Lady Macbeth is willing to stop being a woman because of her great male ambitions.
However, as with all the recurring blood imagery throughout the play, it is also a show of that fact that
she will not feel any guilt for committing the atrocities she does nor will she regret the fact that she
abandoned her womanhood. Consequently, the reason Lady Macbeth has been developed in such a
way by the author is to show the cosmic power of females. Women have historically been oppressed
and so Lady Macbeth would have had to fight her entire life in order to achieve greatness, whilst men
like Macbeth get everything handed to them on a golden platter. Social constraints would have denied

On The Road Narcissism
Idolatry and fantasies easily turn to disappointment when those people and experiences we have built
up to be extraordinary are revealed to be the product of unrealistic expectations. On the Road by Jack
Kerouac follows Sal Paradise as he and Dean Moriarty chase each other across the country and back
again searching for something, an it that is always changing, always moving, and always hundreds if
not thousands of miles away. An experiment in narcissism and the voice of the Beat generation in a
transitory post World War II period in America, Kerouac s novel depicts a specific view of American
culture from the white male perspective. Sal and Dean are not the only characters affected by their
travels; everyone around them becomes often unhappy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Unsurprisingly, there are many who find this to be a lofty sentiment. Published in a 2011 article in
Modern Fiction Studies, Stephen Schryer comments that [On the Road is] motivated by a fantasy of
white hipsters finding a comfortable home among impoverished minorities (Schryer). While in
California, Sal believes he can be a savior for Terry and provide for her and her son, yet relies on her
and her child to help him pick enough cotton to earn money for them to be able to eat daily. While he
attempts at living the life for a while, he can always go back to his life of privilege. Kerouac s racist
romanticism of the African American and Latino cultures within America use a privileged white male
lens of idealism to describe the groups most afflicted by poverty in the 1950s (Schryer). Sal s
obsession with the vibrant cultures of the so called other America is one example of how blind he was
to the events and people around him. Frequently he reflects on his life and how he is like a minority,
saying he wished [he] were a Denver Mexican, or even a poor overworked Jap, anything but what [he]
was so drearily, a white man disillusioned, and the ills that befell him on the trip were a response of
his white ambitions (Kerouac, 170). Later while walking through the African American part of
Denver, Sal believes that the air was filled with the vibration of really joyous life that knows nothing
of disappointment and white sorrows (Kerouac, 171). Sal s entire existence seems to be comprised of
fantasies that acknowledge reality in measured doses, doctored to whatever aesthetic he can spin on
the situation. The fantasy that Sal has created and his expectation for how the world will work in his
favor sets him

Federalism Vs. Cooperative Federalism
Right now the current form of Federalism that the United States uses today is called New Federalism,
or Cooperative Federalism. Cooperative Federalism was created as a political model around 1937 that
emphasized teamwork between the National and State governments. This was created to ensure that
both governments would work together in order to provide services more efficiently in the Nation.
This is why Cooperative Federalism is appealing to this day and still exercised, because the U.S. has
still retained those elements of regional supremacy, and States rights. The current form of Federalism
is well suited for handling policy issues in the United States because our current form of Federalism
(Cooperative Federalism) revolves around the idea that the National and State government are one
team.
So the question is, is Cooperative Federalism beneficial? And if so how? The best example to prove
that it is beneficial is the No Child Left Behind law that was discussed in class. This was passed by
congress in 2001 during President George Bush s presidency, and this law made it mandatory that all
States provide the appropriate education for their kids. Under Cooperative Federalism the National
government required all States to provide the best quality of education for the children. In this case
this form of Federalism was very effective because it allowed the Federal government to intervene
when States were not enforcing the idea as they should have been. So the Federal

Dunn Orthodontics Research Paper
Dunn Ortho interceptive Orthodontics
Dunn orthodontics is a leading orthodontics practice that offers various malocclusion treatments
including Invisalign, braces and interceptive orthodontics treatment. Malocclusion is caused by
misalignment of the tooth and jaw. The problem can affect a number of things including how we
smile, bite and clean the teeth. Invisalign is a popular treatment that uses a progressive series of clear
removable aligners or clear plastic trays. The treatment takes a shorter time and is applicable in both
children and adults. The treatment using braces, on the other hand offers a number of benefits,
including increased self esteem, less general tooth decay and fewer digestive disorders.

The treatment is based on the bases that diagnosing and treating cases of malocclusions at an early,
discovery stage can go a long way to stem the problem. Today s interceptive orthodontics treatment
has done a lot to phase out permanent removal of teeth to correct the bite and late orthodontic
treatment which traditionally began at around age 12 to 14. The treatment also reduces treatment time,
creates and preserves space for the un erupted teeth and creates a facial symmetry through fine jaw
bone resetting. Children who undergo this phased treatment are often treated at age between 7 and 11
to take advantage of the continued teeth growth. The treatment at this age is much easier because the
patient s are much more receptive to the treatment thus ensuring better end

Citizens Science Project
Science is such a unique and highly captivating subject that so many young students find interesting
and yet it is also a subject that the vast majority of students get discouraged by as well as lose interest
in as they get older. There are so many different areas of science it is easy to be overwhelmed and get
discouraged if you easily do not understand something. For this reason, I had decided I need to
research a Citizens Science Project that I could bring not only bring into my future classroom but
share with my students and their families as well. Before I began my research, I listed the components
I would need from a Citizens Science Project because there are so many active projects around the
world. To begin, I needed something that would not ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

will provide them given the income status and if the student s families can afford one. I will start the
Natures Notebook with a PowerPoint describing what the project is, how it will be graded weekly and
why it is important. For the observations, we will take 20 minutes at the beginning of class to go
outside and observe, write what we observe and in the class that will lead us into our unique lesson
plan for the day. At the end of the lesson, students will have 5 minutes to make a prediction for the
next day.
In conclusion, I chose this Citizens Science Project for my future classroom because of the benefits it
will give my students. I believe that each student will be a scientist and will prepare them for
observing higher education labs, without the intimidation that can happen to many students. This
project will help scientists make predictions about natural disasters and weather patterns, while
simultaneously helping boost my students confidence and interest in science and the world going on

Anne Bradstreet To My Dear And Loving Husband Analysis
Anne Bradstreet, A passionate puritan poet
Anne Bradstreet was a passionate poet that was very devoted to her family, her puritan religion, and
her husband. She lived during the early 1600 s and was a part of the Puritanism movement; her poetic
style was in her faith. Bradstreet wrote To My Dear and Loving Husband and Upon the Burning of

for her beliefs and granted her themes to be inspirational.

The poem has also been an indicator of the unevenness of gender roles in Puritan culture, in which the
wife is vulnerable and subservient to the husband (Ruby). Another theme in the poem is how the
gender roles in the culture put women below men. Even though they represent shocking excesses of
material fortune in worldly terms, they are worth less to her than the love of her husband (Ruby). This
shows that no materialistic or currency can compare to her husband s love for her. The poem had a

What Is Charlemagne s Legacy
Son of Pepin the Short, King of the Franks from 751 to 768, (Nelson 2018 para 2) Charlemagne was
born into a family of success and religion. From 768 to 814, ( Charlemagne Facts Summary

understand and evaluate Charlemagne s impact and legacy, it is necessary to investigate his reign,

Identity And The Search For The Self Among The Sub...
Chapter One
Theorising Identity and The Search for The Self among the sub continental Diaspora in Britain
Identity has always been a problematic area of interrogation epistemologically, existentially and
politically and it continues to propel our thought. Etymologically, the term is derived from Latin word
Idem meaning same (Oxford Online Dictionary) which means specific quality or condition of being a
specific person or an object . A person s identity is determined in terms of his/her inherited traditions,
particularly the inherited religion of the community in which they happen to be born, the place and

The concept of Identity has been defined and studied in different fields of studies ranging from
Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Cultural Studies.
Recent trends in Psychology on Identity Theory: In the recent past identity is seen as a self narrative
which is held as the base for the construct of a person s identity. The behaviour in salience to the
social setting is the base of identity formation. The Identity Theory (Stryker 1968, 1980, 1989; Stryker
and Serpe 1982, Mc Calls and Simmons 1978, R.H. Turner 1978) explains social behaviour in terms
of the reciprocal relationship between the self and the society . The term is used to define the links
between a multifaceted notion of the self and wider social structure. (Burke 1980; Mc Call and
Simmons 1978; R.H. Turner 1978). It is an extension of the symbolic interactionist theory postulated
by Mead (1934) and Blumer (1969) that society influences social behaviour through its affects on the
self (Micheal A Hogg, et al.). However, the Identity theory rejects the symbolic interactionist theory as
relatively undifferentiated, co operative whole (Stryker 1980, 1987; Stryker and Serpe 1982) and
argues that society is complexly differentiated, but nevertheless organized (Stryker and Serpe
1982:206) and thus predicated the idea of the

In Breast Cancer, The Estrogen-Estrogen Receptor Complex
In breast cancer, the estrogen estrogen receptor complex cause cell proliferation (Frank, 2013).
Hormone therapies can target the effects of hormones in two ways: 1) by stopping the production of
estrogen and testosterone, reducing their levels, and 2) by binding to the hormone receptor and
blocking the hormone from binding (Frank, 2013). In breast cancer, drugs such as Lupron prevent the
ovaries from making estrogen by blocking cues from the brain that regulate the ovaries (Frank, 2013).
In prostate cancer, Lupron works the same way to prevent the testes from producing testosterone
(Frank, 2013). Drugs such as tamoxifen (breast cancer) and flutamide (prostate cancer) bind to their

To even have a chance at success, health education programs must be implemented before the age of
14 (Williams, 1987). Health education programs are being implemented in schools that will teach
about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a preventative measure to
decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent children from picking up this
habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found that Asian women are referred for
late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity
is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and
medical professionals also contribute to this disparity with ignorance towards minority cultures and
lack of interpreters (Winship, 1997). There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing
training as well (Winship, 1997). Medical manufacturers have been delayed with responding to the
needs of ethnic minorities such as a providing a variety of shades for prosthetics (Winship, 1997).
There is a need for strategically targeted educational material that will educate Asian women and
women of other ethnic backgrounds about the risks of breast cancer or even developing any form of
cancer (Winship, 1997). In prostate cancer, there is a very high incidence and mortality rate seen in
black Americans (Gilligan, 2005). There are major social

The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova
In The Limits of Friendship by Maria Konnikova, social media has significantly changed the way we
interact with friends and family. Everybody thinks that using social media is the best way to talk to
friends and family, however, in my opinion, they are wrong because it doesn t give you the face to
face connections we need as humans for social interaction. On the other hand, the great thing about
using social media is you can connect with more people, but in a superficial kind of way. Therefore,
we do not get the face to face interactions with our friends and family. We, the people that are addicted
to social media, learn that without face to face conversations we wouldn t have a normal social life
outside of social media. The question ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain is incredibly plastic, and, from past research on social interaction, we know that early
childhood experience is crucial in developing those parts of the brain that are largely dedicated to
social interaction, empathy, and other interpersonal concerns (239). The Dunbar number is the
maximum number of people an average person can have in her social group is 150. This number
might change because of the way social media has been growing. We have 150 casual friends, 50
close friends, 15 friends you can turn to for sympathy, and 5 best friends and family. When we use
technology to interact with others, we lose the ability to express the right emotions that you would
express in a face to face conversation. When you tell someone how you feel over social media, it is
entirely different than how you would tell it to them in person. Emotions that are expressed over social
media, can be taken a completely different way than it would be taken if the conversation was face to
face. For example, if you were having a conversation with a close friend, if you said something
sarcastic like You are such a weirdo. That message could mean it is funny to you but it could be
offensive to the person you are texting. In The Limits of Friendship , Konnikova says We do have a

The Equity Method of Accounting for Investments
Chapter 1 the equity method of accounting for investments Chapter Outline I. Three methods are
principally used to account for an investment in equity securities. A. Fair value method: applied by an
investor when only a small percentage of a company s voting stock is held. 1. Income is recognized
when dividends are declared. 2. Portfolios are reported at market value. If market values are
unavailable, investment is reported at cost. B. Consolidation: when one firm controls another (e.g.,
when a parent has a majority interest in the voting stock of a subsidiary or control through variable
interests (FIN 46R), their financial statements are consolidated and reported for the combined entity.

B. Payments made in excess of underlying book value can sometimes be identified with specific
investee accounts such as inventory or equipment. C. An extra acquisition price can also be assigned
to anticipated benefits that are expected to be derived from the investment. For accounting purposes,
these amounts are presumed to reflect an intangible asset referred to as goodwill. Goodwill is
calculated as any excess payment that is not attributable to specific accounts. For the year 2002 and
beyond, goodwill is no longer amortized. V. Deferral of unrealized gains in inventory A. Gains derived
from intercompany transactions are not considered completely earned until the transferred goods are
either consumed or resold to unrelated parties. B. Downstream sales of inventory 1. Downstream
refers to transfers made by the investor to the investee. 2. Intercompany gains from sales are initially

Stiff Neck Research Paper
According to the American Academy of Pain Medicine, Americans said that neck pain was on their
top four list of common pains. All of us have experience a stiff neck at some point in our lives.
http://www.painmed.org/patientcenter/facts_on_pain.aspx#common What is a Stiff Neck?
It s when you experience pain or stiffness in the neck that makes it difficult to move your neck from
side to side. It s a pain that can usually be treated at home and will pass in a day or two with the right
treatment.
Common Causes of a Stiff Neck

While sitting up straight in a chair, press your shoulder blades together then relax. This should be done
up to ten times. Roll your shoulders in circles to the back then reverse at least ten times. With slow
movements, press your ear towards your shoulder on each side. Do as many repetitions as you need to
start feeling the muscle releasing.
Heat Therapy
Blood circulation to the neck can decrease the pain and muscle spasm associated with a stiff neck. You
can use a heating pad or a warm cloth on your neck for approximately twenty minutes to relieve the
pain and stiffness. The heat loosens the neck muscles.
Massage the Muscle
A good massage of the area can also reduce inflammation and increase blood flow to the muscles. A
soothing oil for the massage will also have the added benefit of helping you to relax and feel less
stressed.
Exercises for a Stiff Neck
Like every other muscle in the body, the neck muscle needs to be exercised to function properly.
Slowly roll your head in a circle clockwise ten to fifteen times before switching directions and circling
counter clockwise. This will help exercise the neck. Let your chin drop to your chest slowly then
reverse direction to look at the ceiling. Be careful with this exercise since it can make you slightly
dizzy if you do it too quickly.

farewell to flesh in Latin (Crowley 25:15). Influences from different Christmas traditions held in Old

World Resources And Unequal Distribution
World Resources and Unequal Distribution In a world run by different resources, we will never have
enough for ourselves. In the modern world, resources such as rare earth elements, oil, and water are
always in demand. The United States of America alone consumes more resources and energy than it
produces. But what about other nations? Some nations such as Japan, Great Britain, and South Korea
are industrialized nations with many advantages over resources. Other developing nations such as
Haiti, Ethiopia, Angola, and even Afghanistan are not as industrialized. Why? Many of the world s
resources is almost unable to reach the most poorest and unindustrialized parts of the world. This can
be due to factors such as hostile terrorists, lack of transportation, lack of basic necessities and so forth.
Unequal distribution of resources is not just a world issue but the reason why this exists is because
literally, resources are used more than what is produced and it cannot uphold the current population of
over seven billion. The issues concerning unequal distribution of resources towards poor parts of the
world won t stop others from solving this issue. There are already plans that are taken into action to
help industrialize and strengthen the poor parts of the world. To begin, the unequal distribution of food
can be averted with the right planning of sharing and disbursement. In the past, there were events in
history where the world combated hunger but it was not enough due to

The Significance of William Pitt in Reforming the British...
The Significance of William Pitt in Reforming the British Parliamentary System
Successive Kings of England, George I (1714 1727) and George II (1727 60), both proved highly
disinterested in the political aspects of their country. As a result of this disinterest, each in turn had to
leave national ruling to the Government. Subsequently, in 1716 the Septennial Act was passed, which
extended the life of parliament from 3 to 7 years. This provided for an unprecedented period of
parliament stability, and ultimately limited the powers of the king. (Barnett, 2002 p654). Political
power had now shifted from the king to his chosen first minister. Parliament at this time could not be

However, they were patiently awaiting their position as minister in the House of Lords. It is in the
House of Lords they would have most power. House of Commons members had no social
responsibility at this time. The running of Government was very corrupt and members were not
concerned about keeping their seats as they inherited their positions. The use of sinecures is at an all
time high and a mere 4% of the population had the right to vote. The Monarchy had indirect power
and was able to use taxes and funding to achieve beneficial results in Parliament that suited their own
interests.
William Pitt was raised in a highly politically aware family. His father William, who was the First Earl
of Chatham (1766) |took great interest and William junior was sent to Cambridge for his university
education. The Earl of Chatham was determined that his son would eventually become a member of
the House of Commons and at an early age, William was given lessons on how to become an effective
orator (Sparticus, 2005 Pg1). At Cambridge, William Pitt studied political philosophy among other
subjects. At university, Pitt worked hard and showed a reserved, aloof and self controlled character
(Biography of William Pitt, 2005 p1). Pitt suffered with gout and this combined with an antiquated
privilege that allowed noblemen s sons to graduate without examination, meant that Pitt was able to

sneaky, bold and dishonest because he was taking things from his boss behind his back.
Alfred Higgins can be described as sneaky for many reasons. One example is when Alfred was putting
different things in his pocket he took a blue compact, two tubes of toothpaste and a lipstick. On page

Ideally, CSR policy would function as a built in, self regulating mechanism whereby business would
monitor and ensure its support to law, ethical standards, and international norms. Consequently,
business would embrace responsibility for the impact of its activities on the environment, consumers,
employees, communities, stakeholders and all other members of the public sphere. Furthermore, CSR
focused businesses would proactively promote the public interest by encouraging community growth
and development, and voluntarily eliminating practices that harm the public sphere, regardless of
legality. Essentially, CSR is the deliberate inclusion of public interest into corporate decision making,
and the honoring of a triple bottom line: people, planet, profit.
Stakeholders are taking an increasing interest in the activity of the company. Most look to the outer
circle, that is, what the company has actually done, good or bad, in terms of its products and services,
in terms of its impact on the environment and on local communities, or in how it treats and develops

performance. Developed countries have worked out a way around ensuring that local and international

The Grand Challenge Of Engineering On Nitrogen Cycle Essay
The Grand Challenge of Engineering on Nitrogen Cycle: Is it Ethical or Not? Engineers have
revolutionized the world. Not one person, living or dead, has escaped the benefits of their works let
alone the animals, or microorganisms, or basically everything that constitutes the physical world. They
have made life easier and provided other professionals the tools necessary to discover and better
understand existence. They found ways of breaking into another dimension of any known discipline
and have continually advanced the society to a more global and prolific understanding. Then again,
like any other areas in this world, there is a whole different side to this story. Engineers may have
brought the wonders people enjoy today but at the expense of other life forms, like the environment,
as well as of the general view on what is ethical. As stated in the code of ethics for engineering
practice, it is of paramount importance to consider the environment, as well as public safety, health,
and welfare when performing professional duties [1]. Since the pioneering advancement in technology
entailed environmental crisis and affected public health, it cannot therefore be entirely considered
ethical and is in need of a more profound understanding and creativity to address such issues.
One of the many grand challenges of engineering considered by the National Academy of Engineering
is the management of nitrogen cycle. Indeed, nitrogen is the most common gas in the atmosphere and

1. INTRODUCTION
The Internet is a network of networks. It is based on the concept of packet switching. Though the
services offered by Internet are extensively used from a layman to multi millionaire it also has its own
defects. Many attacks on Internet are being identified and reported. Some of the common types of
network attacks are eavesdropping, data modification, identity spoofing, password based attacks and
denial of service attacks. To overcome all these types of attacks an organisation usually installs an
intrusion detection system to protect the confidential data exchanged over its network. The local
network is then connected to the Internet thereby availing the employees to be online on the fly.
Information security has three main objectives namely 1. Data confidentiality 2.Data integrity 3. Data
availability. Data confidentiality ensures that the secure data can be accessed only by authorized
persons. Data integrity allows secure modification of data. Data availability ensures that the data is
available readily to authorized persons. Small scale industries often do not prefer on intrusion
detection systems due to its installation and maintenance costs. Honeypots and Honeynets are an

Relationship Between State and Local Government Essay
Forms of Local Government
The basis for county, city and special district governing and authority are laid out in the State
Constitution and Government Code. Counties in California are responsible for providing limited
services to unincorporated areas. The state Legislature created the Local Agency Formation
Commission (LAFCO) in 1963 to control local government fragmentation. The Local Agency
Formation Commission (LAFCO) gives counties the power to tax, create special districts and annex
unincorporated land to cities in the county (League of Women Voters, 1992).

Municipalities may also provide parks, public housing, and various utility services. Cities are required
to develop a general plan, environmental reports and review of their capital improvements program
(League of California Cities, n.d.). Charter municipalities may have increased powers, requiring a vote
for adoption and amendment. Incorporated cities and towns have the power to levy taxes. Special
districts provide focused service. They only serve specific designated areas and provide only one
service. That service is a public service or program constitutes want. While county and city service are
mandated by federal and state government, special districts provide what the public wants. Local
agency loss of property tax revenue and competition for existing revenue leaves fewer dollars for
services. Residents and landowners can form a district to pay for an increased level of service or other
services they desire. Local citizens can receive services at the price they are willing to pay (League of
Women Voters, 1992).
Special districts are not state government. They are accountable to the voters. State government does
look over financial reports and requires state law be followed for public meetings, bonded debt, record
keeping and elections. They provide public services and infrastructure that help communities but not
direct economic development (CSDA, n.d.).

Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany
For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic
ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently they
exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as Brittany
comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians and linguists
alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily because of three
rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and after the French
Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally independent Brittany stem
back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each governed by its own duke but still
ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship between the duke of Brittany and the
king of France, however, started to become tense in the fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels
over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in
the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and
then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The Creation of Brittany, 8). In an attempt to retain some form of
independence from the king, or to at least achieve power more significant than that of a vassal, John
IV set out to gain the allegiance of his duchy (Jones, The Creation of

Depleted Uranium Research Paper
Overview
Depleted uranium, referred here as DU, is a by product of the naturally produced element uranium, a
member of the periodic table. Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the
military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members.
Uranium History and Beginning Risks
Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium
goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation
of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time
lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United
States took interest in uranium. According to Brugge Goble (2002), it was in 1948 the uranium mining
boom started exposing people to radiation dust leading to lung cancer, similar situation to Germany.
DU and the Idea
DU is the waste product of Uranium and serves many advantages to the military. According to Briner
(2010), The Gulf War in 1990 began the introduction of DU in munitions and armor. DU provided a
massive advantage over enemy armored vehicles and oppositely, DU armor protected US military
vehicles from enemy munitions (p. 304 305). However, the application of DU is ... Show more content

This cry was repeated in honor of the shattering loss of the Alamo for Texas independence. The Alamo
was an emblem of leadership and sacrifice displayed in a stand of fearlessness. Though under

defense of the Alamo resolved to give their all and sacrifice their lives to secure Texas independence.
Despite their courage, bravery, and greatest efforts, the Alamo was a demoralizing loss to both Texas
and to the nation. In retaliation to this crushing overthrow, and the loss in valor, Sam Houston and his
army took revenge for the souls slain and the lives given in defense of the Alamo in the following

The United state is known as the Police of the world, the world super power which involves itself in
numerous foreign affairs for multiple reasons. The choice to continue their involvement in these
foreign affairs should be reconsidered. The United states s involvement in various foreign affairs can
be for a number of reasons and some of them may not be completely public. The politics that go into
the decision can have a large background but it is still something that should be reconsidered in some
situations. The word humanitarian is very commonly used to describe the reason for the involvement.
There is also a chance that this is a reason they are telling the public but on the other hand it might just
be a cover for a more hidden ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Of course when national security is at risk it is always a time to take action. However should the
United State continue to attempt to integrate our values into other countries? Is discrimination in
another country enough for the United States military to take action. Would the United States
intervened lead to a more stable country after the United States Halts its involvement.each situation
should be given more consideration than in previous times. One such instance of the United States
involvement not completely eradicating the issues within the country is within Libya. After United
States Ended its involvement within the Civil War the new Libyan government continued fighting
with in itself, and began turning into the government the rebels fought to overthrow. Many instances
of human rights abuse are being caused by the rebel forces after the fighting ended.
Many pros and cons to the US involvement in foreign countries. A major Pro is that there may be
suppressed nations that are in need of some type of humanitarian acts in order to free or help them.
there may be others that are recovering some type of breakdown of their country or simply a relief
effort for countries who are trapped in a war. However these acts of humanities also come with cons,
One such con is the risk of causing more international turmoil during the process.countries may feel
threatened by the United States entering within their own affairs.more

The Growth Of Room 40 s Atherosclerosis
The growth of Room 40 s atherosclerosis progressed until an acute arterial occlusion was formed,
which stopped blood flow to the tissue. The atherosclerosis consisted of complicated lesions that led
to a decrease in blood flow and the presence of a thrombus, ultimately resulting in thea lack of blood
flow to the right foot and lower leg. Thrombi often appear after a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque
(Coneliue, 2014). This lack of blood flow led to necrosis of the tissues in the right foot and lower leg
and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA.
The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an
image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During
this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions
of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a
vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins
Medicine, 2015).
After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter
directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right
foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial
obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the

Italian American Culture
With Italians traveling to America to find a new world to explore and evolve in, they found some
interesting changes, and stereotypes that ended up transforming how they acted and dealt with
Americans. Italian American culture was a transition of hardships, to learning that the American
standard was not as strict as it was in Italy. Most of the men in our room worked at digging the sewer.
Bartolo got them the work and they paid him one quarter of their wages. Then he charged them for
board... (36 Black Boot Barn). This quote demonstrates to us, that people took advantage of the newer
Italian immigrants setting them not only a job, but shelter as well. While they were trying to find a
step to settle on, they had people who have been residents for a while use these people, until they
stood up and became more independent. There are examples of when something good was taught to
Italians, and they realized that America was not as uptight in accepting abuse. In Rosa s journey of
working in America she broke a lamp and started breaking down in tears, but then a lady said, But
Rosa, they said, you did a good thing! That lamp was terrible! Somebody gave it to us so we had to
keep it (Rosa 221). This demonstrates that, sometimes, breaking something or messing up was alright,
because it was a natural error that was accepted instead of a death penalty. In the school system,
stereotypes took a role in younger Italian children and what they were good at. The main character in

Mediation Is An Effective Method Of Dispute Resolution
One of the most peaceful and highly sought after ways of resolving conflict is mediation. It is the
process where a mutually acceptable third party, with no authority to make descisions, intervenes and
helps involved parties improve their relationships, enhance communication, and use effective problem
solving and negotiation procedures to reach mutually understanding or agreement.
Based on the current research found, mediation is an effective method of dispute resolution. In studies
prior to 1990, the reported settlement rate was approximately 60 percent and for the 1990 2000
decade, the reported rate on average was 75 percent . For our most recent decade, this rate is about the
same, roughly and 80 percent agreement rate.

For example, in the case study we did in lecture, many a times the reasons behind another person s
actions is not solely because of money, but rather by principles and values that were violated by the
other party. Hence when one party understands the circumstances and personal reasons certain actions
were made by another, movement from entrenched positions become more possible.
Lastly, once they are able to air their moral framework, and come to a common solution, the end result
would be parties feeling psychologically more complete and satisfied. According to an article by Dr
Pinzon Salcedo (2002), that by not having a deeper reflection of one s true purpose in the mediation
process, close to 25% of participants who reach an agreement still express dissatisfaction.
On one of the mediation discussions we had, we realised that as the facts behind each party s anger
and resentment were not provided, this always leaves the opposite party feeling confused and
frustrated by the behaviour of the aggrieved person. Upon having a sharing of their moral framework
privately or openly, the mediation moves from the realm of physical demands, to really addressing the
root of the problem behind any hostilities. Therefore, when a successful mediation occurs, both parties
are psychologically more at peace with the decisions that are being made. This is large in part due to
their own form justice or beliefs are being satisfied as

McDonalds Corporation is the organization I selected with compensation or benefit challenges. Since
McDonalds opened their doors in 1955 people have been coming not only to enjoy a good meal, but
they have been employed by the biggest food chain in the world. By 1958, McDonald s had sold its
100 millionth hamburger. Ray Kroc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be famous for
providing food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of preparation. He wanted to serve
burgers, buns, fries, and beverages that tasted the same in Alaska as they did in Alabama.
(about.McDonalds.com) To achieve this, Ray Kroc chose a unique path: persuading both franchisees
and suppliers to buy into his vision, working not for McDonald s but for themselves, together with
McDonald s. He promoted the slogan, In business for yourself, but not by yourself. His philosophy
was based on the simple principle of a 3 legged stool: one leg was McDonald s franchisees; the
second, McDonald s suppliers; and the third, McDonald s employees. The stool was only as strong as
the three legs that formed its foundation. McDonald s benefits and compensation program is designed
to attract, retain and engage talented people who will deliver strong performance and help McDonald s
achieve their business goals and objectives. The benefits and compensation include Medical, Dental,

The Problem With Vietnam Essays
The Problem With Vietnam
Wartime in the United States has always placed pressure on the government and the citizens of the
country to provide support by whatever means to the situation. During World War II, that support was
propagated by the government in the form of censorship and a strategic public relations plan to
maintain the public opinion in favor of the cause. Glorification of America s involvement in the war
helped America maintain the image of a cause worth fighting for. Technology and de censorship
would later transform America and the world s image of war, which had been formed by such
propaganda as seen during WWII, into the truth about war as seen in the media s coverage of the
Vietnam War. During this period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, the flip side to the censorship, the side that is not often seen, is the fact that this helped to
break down many barriers in the country, including race, gender and even religious. Its effects on the
outcome of the war cannot be measured by traditional means, but indeed it created an atmosphere of
pride and loyalty for one s country. World War II may have been a censored war, but that censorship
may have indeed won that war. According to Philip Knightley s The First Casualty during World War
I, censorship was so tight that even reports of a gift of wine cases to American troops by the French
were not reported for fear of making the American s look unsavory (Alter 38). An after effect of World
War II s propagation can be seen in the tremendous press coverage of the Vietnam War. Feelings of
mistrust and betrayal toward the US government could very well have been why Vietnam had so much
coverage. American citizens wanted the truth, feeling that they had been lied to for so many years. The
truth was what was received thanks to Television (Alter 38). Nicknamed the Living Room War ,
images of death and destruction could be seen first hand. Uncensored images filled the TV screens as
millions of Americans watched their country battle communism in a foreign land. For the first time,
many people could see the truth about war. Their ideas of war being no longer being shaped by the
government,

Gary Paulsen s Nightjohn
In 1993, Gary Paulsen wrote the book Nightjohn. Nightjohn is a book set in the 1850s, during slavery.
It shows the thoughts and views of a twelve year old girl named Sarny. Sarny is a black slave girl, who
is uneducated, malnourished, and living life the best she can. Suddenly, a man by the name of
Nightjohn is brought to the plantation. Sarny traded tobacco for learning the alphabet from Nightjohn.
Nightjohn ran away one night, and was thought to never return, but actually he created a hidden,
underground school. Nightjohn could have been inspired by two interviews, Uncle Billy McCrea s and
Walter Calloway s. Nightjohn was influenced by real slave interviews. One of the interviews in the
archive is an interview from Uncle Billy McCrea. McCrea said, ...they d take them, hang them up by
his thumb. In the story Nightjohn, one ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Calloway s content is alarmingly alike and dislike to Nightjohn. Calloway said, ...whipped a nigger
gal bout thirteen years old so hard she dearly die. Nightjohn was whipped ,so that he had ripple scars
on his back. Both Stories took place on a cotton plantations. Walter Calloway said, We get plenty to
eat..., but Waller s plantation, slaves were barely fed. Calloway s plantation had the privilege to
practice religion on Sundays, something that Cel Waller would never allow. Calloway even thought it
wasn t that bad by saying, Dey treated us purty good. Calloway s recall of his slave times were similar
,yet different to Nightjohn.
Slave interviews helped Paulsen describe the cruelty of slavery. His uses of descriptive words and
phrases help readers visualize the torture the slaves had to endure. By choosing a young girl, he did
not only tell the tale of a young girl, but adults through her vision. It showed how human beings with a
different skin color can be treated like animals. Nightjohn put into words the struggle of America s
darkest

  • 4. Heating Appliances Carry A Disease Transmission Risk A Thermoplastic device is one of the immobilization devices used to immobilize cancer patients during radiation therapy treatment, such as head and neck cancers. One way to form a thermoplastic device is to use one of the heating devices that are specifically designed to fabricate customized thermoplastic immobilization in the optimal conditions. The patients may be at risk of infection from heating devices used to produce their masks. In this study, authors assess individual facility practices where water baths or other heating appliances are used to fabricate thermoplastic immobilization devices to determine whether heating appliances carry a disease transmission risk. The author s purpose, approach or methods, hypothesis, and major conclusions. Purpose To determine whether heating appliances used to fabricate customized thermoplastic immobilization devices carry a disease transmission risk. Background Current literature provides ample evidence that water baths used in health care settings are potential reservoirs for microorganisms associated with patient infections. Such results suggest a similar potential for heating appliances used to fabricate thermoplastic forms. Methods The authors conducted on site surveys of both equipment and procedures used to produce immobilization forms in several medical facilities. Each heating appliance was sampled for its microbial content and the data analyzed for growth trends. Results Twelve heating appliances were sampled. Five (42%) ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Some may get a sense of satisfaction from it, but many become less happy and have to suffer much. With the appearance of this phenomenon, the term workaholic has been coined to describe these people. Since it was familiar to men, more research have been done to this popular issue workaholism, and it has been proved that workaholism has great effects on human. Finally, all these factors will reduce enterprises cohesive force and productivity. Moreover, huge costs have to be spent on recruiting, selecting and training new employees (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005, p.32). Even though workaholism has some good influences, it exerts much more negative influences on humans. To start with, excessive work has great impacts on people s mental health. On the one hand, it produces huge pressure on men and affects their moods seriously. Workaholics always suffer from obsessive worry, mood fluctuations (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005, p.31) and this will lead to a poor quality of life. Worse of all, those who are uninterruptedly under pressure are likely to get paranoid, manic or even schizophrenic (Quick, Henley and Quick, 2005, p.36). On the other hand, researchers have showed that mental disorder caused by overwork has a direct connection with pregnancy and miscarriage. Hamilton and Denniss believe that long working hours reduce the possibility of pregnancy and increase the risk of preterm births, also it effects infants growth (2005, p.15). It is rueful and ridiculous that mother s addiction to work threatens babies lives. Next, the negative physical health ramifications are caused by overwork. It enhances the probability of having serious and fatal disease. Evidence has reflected that employees who work overly, compared with those who work regularly, are more likely ... • 6. Characters Roles In Tony Kushner s Angels In America Angels in America, by Tony Kushner, is a play written during the AIDS/ HIV epidemic in the 1980 s. Different than most plays, most of the actors posses more than just one or even two roles. These roles taken on by the same actors emphasize the difference in the characters being played. Some of the characters being played by the same actors are minor roles which fill a need that one of the main characters aquires a longing for. The use of multiple characters being played by the same actors displays the way in which their different characters affect the needs that a psychological deficiency proposes. • 7. Timmy Monologue I hesitantly approach the single closed door in the empty hallway. The laughter of campers had filled the dormitory just a while before; however, now that midnight was closing in, it had transformed into a serious atmosphere. The silence pounds louder than the shrieking bunch of kids at the peak of their puberty. Hey, is everything okay in here? I ask as I knock, but receive no response other than muffled cries. Poking my head into the room, I switch on the lights. Scanning the room, I notice someone buried under their sheets on the twin bed to the right. Rinsing each dyed fabric until no more pigment came out, we lay them across the bathroom counter to dry and start on another batch of ten. Halfway through scrubbing the color out of the second group, Elissa goes and checks on the previous ones we ve finished. How are they? I ask, excited to hear how they turn out. Kara! All of a sudden, she slumps down onto the floor and stares at the cloth with an emotionless face. I put down what I m working on and turn around, devastated by the sight I saw. • 8. Character Analysis Of Lady Macbeth In the play Macbeth by William Shakespeare, the character Lady Macbeth and her various qualities are used to reinforce the idea that being ambitious can be beneficial, however it can also have dire consequences. This Shakespearean tragedy is set in Scotland during the Middle Ages, and follows the tale of Macbeth, a Scottish Thane, who succumbs to temptation in an attempt to fulfil a set of prophecies and become King. During the play he becomes consumed by his dark desires and murderous ambitions, which ultimately lead both himself and his wife to their deaths. The author s various messages surrounding being ambitious are shown through; the immense determination of Lady Macbeth, her successful manipulation of her husband, and her callous nature. These qualities and their implied messages to the audience are explored in the play through the use of; dialogue, symbolism and other various language features. One of Lady Macbeth s greatest strengths is her drive and determination to succeed in life. Moreover, she was willing to do anything, even kill her own child and dash d the brains out of it to get what she desired. Consequently this shows the immense lengths to which she is prepared to go to and it is also highlights of the fact that sometimes you have to make sacrifices in order for your objectives to be realised. The greatest sacrifice which Lady Macbeth makes is to that of her feminism, Make thick my blood, stop up the access and passage to remorse. This imagery of blood is an extreme example which shows that Lady Macbeth is willing to stop being a woman because of her great male ambitions. However, as with all the recurring blood imagery throughout the play, it is also a show of that fact that she will not feel any guilt for committing the atrocities she does nor will she regret the fact that she abandoned her womanhood. Consequently, the reason Lady Macbeth has been developed in such a way by the author is to show the cosmic power of females. Women have historically been oppressed and so Lady Macbeth would have had to fight her entire life in order to achieve greatness, whilst men like Macbeth get everything handed to them on a golden platter. Social constraints would have denied Lady Macbeth the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 9. On The Road Narcissism Idolatry and fantasies easily turn to disappointment when those people and experiences we have built up to be extraordinary are revealed to be the product of unrealistic expectations. On the Road by Jack Kerouac follows Sal Paradise as he and Dean Moriarty chase each other across the country and back again searching for something, an it that is always changing, always moving, and always hundreds if not thousands of miles away. An experiment in narcissism and the voice of the Beat generation in a transitory post World War II period in America, Kerouac s novel depicts a specific view of American culture from the white male perspective. Sal and Dean are not the only characters affected by their travels; everyone around them becomes often unhappy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Unsurprisingly, there are many who find this to be a lofty sentiment. Published in a 2011 article in Modern Fiction Studies, Stephen Schryer comments that [On the Road is] motivated by a fantasy of white hipsters finding a comfortable home among impoverished minorities (Schryer). While in California, Sal believes he can be a savior for Terry and provide for her and her son, yet relies on her and her child to help him pick enough cotton to earn money for them to be able to eat daily. While he attempts at living the life for a while, he can always go back to his life of privilege. Kerouac s racist romanticism of the African American and Latino cultures within America use a privileged white male lens of idealism to describe the groups most afflicted by poverty in the 1950s (Schryer). Sal s obsession with the vibrant cultures of the so called other America is one example of how blind he was to the events and people around him. Frequently he reflects on his life and how he is like a minority, saying he wished [he] were a Denver Mexican, or even a poor overworked Jap, anything but what [he] was so drearily, a white man disillusioned, and the ills that befell him on the trip were a response of his white ambitions (Kerouac, 170). Later while walking through the African American part of Denver, Sal believes that the air was filled with the vibration of really joyous life that knows nothing of disappointment and white sorrows (Kerouac, 171). Sal s entire existence seems to be comprised of fantasies that acknowledge reality in measured doses, doctored to whatever aesthetic he can spin on the situation. The fantasy that Sal has created and his expectation for how the world will work in his favor sets him ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Federalism Vs. Cooperative Federalism Right now the current form of Federalism that the United States uses today is called New Federalism, or Cooperative Federalism. Cooperative Federalism was created as a political model around 1937 that emphasized teamwork between the National and State governments. This was created to ensure that both governments would work together in order to provide services more efficiently in the Nation. This is why Cooperative Federalism is appealing to this day and still exercised, because the U.S. has still retained those elements of regional supremacy, and States rights. The current form of Federalism is well suited for handling policy issues in the United States because our current form of Federalism (Cooperative Federalism) revolves around the idea that the National and State government are one team. So the question is, is Cooperative Federalism beneficial? And if so how? The best example to prove that it is beneficial is the No Child Left Behind law that was discussed in class. This was passed by congress in 2001 during President George Bush s presidency, and this law made it mandatory that all States provide the appropriate education for their kids. Under Cooperative Federalism the National government required all States to provide the best quality of education for the children. In this case this form of Federalism was very effective because it allowed the Federal government to intervene when States were not enforcing the idea as they should have been. So the Federal ... Chapter One Theorising Identity and The Search for The Self among the sub continental Diaspora in Britain Identity has always been a problematic area of interrogation epistemologically, existentially and politically and it continues to propel our thought. Etymologically, the term is derived from Latin word Idem meaning same (Oxford Online Dictionary) which means specific quality or condition of being a specific person or an object . Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The concept of Identity has been defined and studied in different fields of studies ranging from Psychology, Anthropology, Sociology and Cultural Studies. Recent trends in Psychology on Identity Theory: In the recent past identity is seen as a self narrative which is held as the base for the construct of a person s identity. The behaviour in salience to the social setting is the base of identity formation. The Identity Theory (Stryker 1968, 1980, 1989; Stryker and Serpe 1982, Mc Calls and Simmons 1978, R.H. Turner 1978) explains social behaviour in terms of the reciprocal relationship between the self and the society . The term is used to define the links between a multifaceted notion of the self and wider social structure. (Burke 1980; Mc Call and Simmons 1978; R.H. Turner 1978). It is an extension of the symbolic interactionist theory postulated by Mead (1934) and Blumer (1969) that society influences social behaviour through its affects on the self (Micheal A Hogg, et al.). However, the Identity theory rejects the symbolic interactionist theory as relatively undifferentiated, co operative whole (Stryker 1980, 1987; Stryker and Serpe 1982) and argues that society is complexly differentiated, but nevertheless organized (Stryker and Serpe 1982:206) and thus predicated the idea of the ... Health education programs are being implemented in schools that will teach about the dangers of smoking and passive smoking (Williams, 1987). This is a preventative measure to decrease the amount of people in society who are smoking and prevent children from picking up this habit. Another health disparity is ethnic background. A study found that Asian women are referred for late treatment for a breast lump compared to Caucasian women (Winship, 1997). Part of this disparity is the disbelief that Asian women can/will develop breast cancer (Winship, 1997). Hospitals and medical professionals also contribute to this disparity with ignorance towards minority cultures and lack of interpreters (Winship, 1997). There must be changes implemented to medical and nursing training as well (Winship, 1997). • 18. The Limits Of Friendship By Maria Konnikova In The Limits of Friendship by Maria Konnikova, social media has significantly changed the way we interact with friends and family. Everybody thinks that using social media is the best way to talk to friends and family, however, in my opinion, they are wrong because it doesn t give you the face to face connections we need as humans for social interaction. On the other hand, the great thing about using social media is you can connect with more people, but in a superficial kind of way. Therefore, we do not get the face to face interactions with our friends and family. We, the people that are addicted to social media, learn that without face to face conversations we wouldn t have a normal social life outside of social media. The question ... We have 150 casual friends, 50 close friends, 15 friends you can turn to for sympathy, and 5 best friends and family. When we use technology to interact with others, we lose the ability to express the right emotions that you would express in a face to face conversation. When you tell someone how you feel over social media, it is entirely different than how you would tell it to them in person. Emotions that are expressed over social media, can be taken a completely different way than it would be taken if the conversation was face to face. For example, if you were having a conversation with a close friend, if you said something sarcastic like You are such a weirdo. Three methods are principally used to account for an investment in equity securities. A. Fair value method: applied by an investor when only a small percentage of a company s voting stock is held. 1. Income is recognized when dividends are declared. 2. Portfolios are reported at market value. If market values are unavailable, investment is reported at cost. B. But what about other nations? Some nations such as Japan, Great Britain, and South Korea are industrialized nations with many advantages over resources. Other developing nations such as Haiti, Ethiopia, Angola, and even Afghanistan are not as industrialized. Why? Many of the world s resources is almost unable to reach the most poorest and unindustrialized parts of the world. This can be due to factors such as hostile terrorists, lack of transportation, lack of basic necessities and so forth. Not one person, living or dead, has escaped the benefits of their works let alone the animals, or microorganisms, or basically everything that constitutes the physical world. They have made life easier and provided other professionals the tools necessary to discover and better understand existence. They found ways of breaking into another dimension of any known discipline and have continually advanced the society to a more global and prolific understanding. Then again, like any other areas in this world, there is a whole different side to this story. Engineers may have brought the wonders people enjoy today but at the expense of other life forms, like the environment, as well as of the general view on what is ethical. As stated in the code of ethics for engineering practice, it is of paramount importance to consider the environment, as well as public safety, health, and welfare when performing professional duties [1]. Since the pioneering advancement in technology entailed environmental crisis and affected public health, it cannot therefore be entirely considered ethical and is in need of a more profound understanding and creativity to address such issues. • 33. Origin Myths and Identity in Brittany For many people, it may be troubling to think of national identity as anything but some dogmatic ideal, innate to them. After analysis of these identities, however, it becomes clear that frequently they exist as the result of centuries of almost clinical calculation. The region of France known as Brittany comes as no exception, with its separate Celtic identity, depends on royal court historians and linguists alike. The modern understanding of Breton identity exists the way it does primarily because of three rounds of origin myths, from the medieval period, the early eighteenth century, and after the French Revolution. To begin with, the use of origin myths to create a culturally independent Brittany stem back to the medieval period, during which numerous duchies, each governed by its own duke but still ruled over by a French king, made up France. The relationship between the duke of Brittany and the king of France, however, started to become tense in the fourteenth century. During that time, quarrels over royal efforts to regulate ducal coinage, appoint bishops to Breton, or control private warfare in the duchy led to a power struggle between Duke John IV and the French monarchs, Charles V and then later his son, Charles VI (Jones, The Creation of Brittany, 8). Exposure to DU is commonly talked about by almost everyone in the military spending time out of the wire, however, not limited to only those combat service members. Uranium History and Beginning Risks Before going straight in on the subject of DU, it would be appropriate to explain it s parent. Uranium goes back many centuries. According to Briner (2010), Uranium assisted the Germans in the creation of certain textiles and paint in the 1500s. Miners were needed to retrieve this element and over time lung cancer set in the miners due to radioactive dust from uranium (p. 304). Later in time, the United States took interest in uranium. • 39. Remember The Alamo Symbolism Remember the Alamo, Remember the Alamo! This is the cry repeated in remembrance as Sam Houston s army of 800 men swept through Houston Texas to take revenge for the lives sacrificed in the devastating defeat of Alamo. This sound was the emblem of respect throughout the States, but also around the globe for the leadership and sacrifice displayed in this stand of valor. During the Texas revolution in 1836, the Battle of the Alamo took place, as a last standing defense and hope for the security of the independence of the state of Texas from Mexico. Though under provisioned in all areas in men, in food, in arms, and in protection the determination and bravery of the men standing in defense of the Alamo drove the resolve for the Alamo s ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This cry was repeated in honor of the shattering loss of the Alamo for Texas independence. The Alamo was an emblem of leadership and sacrifice displayed in a stand of fearlessness. Though under provisioned in all areas in men, in food, in arms, and especially in protection the men standing in defense of the Alamo resolved to give their all and sacrifice their lives to secure Texas independence. Despite their courage, bravery, and greatest efforts, the Alamo was a demoralizing loss to both Texas and to the nation. In retaliation to this crushing overthrow, and the loss in valor, Sam Houston and his army took revenge for the souls slain and the lives given in defense of the Alamo in the following battle of the Runaway Scrape. Though outnumbered by Santa Ana s army almost 6 1, Sam Houston and 800 men, each filled with reprisal, swept through the Mexican army and slayed almost the entire force in a matter of nearly 18 minutes. Though vengeance was taken and independence secured, nothing would fill the void of the souls lost in the Alamo. The Alamo was and is a symbol: It is an icon of resistance and determination, of generations past, and more importantly, to the generation of today s nation. It was the leadership, it was the will, and it was the sacrifice of the Alamo, which gained true independence for Texas. Remember the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The choice to continue their involvement in these foreign affairs should be reconsidered. The United states s involvement in various foreign affairs can be for a number of reasons and some of them may not be completely public. The politics that go into the decision can have a large background but it is still something that should be reconsidered in some situations. The word humanitarian is very commonly used to describe the reason for the involvement. After United States Ended its involvement within the Civil War the new Libyan government continued fighting with in itself, and began turning into the government the rebels fought to overthrow. Many instances of human rights abuse are being caused by the rebel forces after the fighting ended. Many pros and cons to the US involvement in foreign countries. A major Pro is that there may be suppressed nations that are in need of some type of humanitarian acts in order to free or help them. there may be others that are recovering some type of breakdown of their country or simply a relief effort for countries who are trapped in a war. However these acts of humanities also come with cons, One such con is the risk of causing more international turmoil during the process.countries may feel threatened by the United States entering within their own affairs.more ... • 41. The Growth Of Room 40 s Atherosclerosis The growth of Room 40 s atherosclerosis progressed until an acute arterial occlusion was formed, which stopped blood flow to the tissue. The atherosclerosis consisted of complicated lesions that led to a decrease in blood flow and the presence of a thrombus, ultimately resulting in thea lack of blood flow to the right foot and lower leg. Thrombi often appear after a rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque (Coneliue, 2014). This lack of blood flow led to necrosis of the tissues in the right foot and lower leg and ultimately resulted in the need for the AKA. The obstruction in Room 40 s leg was discovered using a diagnostic arteriogram. An arteriogram is an image of the interior of blood vessels, such as arteries, by the use of electromagnetic waves. During this procedure, a dye is injected into the artery revealing any bulges, weakness, lesions or occlusions of the blood vessel. The ability to see any evidence of a a plaque formation or obstruction within a vessel makes an arteriogram an effective method for detecting atherosclerosis (Johns Hopkins Medicine, 2015). After the obstruction was detected with the arteriogram, the patient underwent percutaneous catheter directed thrombolytic therapy with alteplase in order to regain blood flow and nutrients to the right foot and lower leg. This choice of therapy is chosen with the goal to quickly dissolve the arterial obstruction (National Institute of Health, 2014b). Although the TPA in alteplase will not restore the damaged or ... • 42. Italian American Culture With Italians traveling to America to find a new world to explore and evolve in, they found some interesting changes, and stereotypes that ended up transforming how they acted and dealt with Americans. Italian American culture was a transition of hardships, to learning that the American standard was not as strict as it was in Italy. Most of the men in our room worked at digging the sewer. Bartolo got them the work and they paid him one quarter of their wages. Then he charged them for board... (36 Black Boot Barn). This quote demonstrates to us, that people took advantage of the newer Italian immigrants setting them not only a job, but shelter as well. While they were trying to find a step to settle on, they had people who have been residents for a while use these people, until they stood up and became more independent. There are examples of when something good was taught to Italians, and they realized that America was not as uptight in accepting abuse. In Rosa s journey of working in America she broke a lamp and started breaking down in tears, but then a lady said, But Rosa, they said, you did a good thing! That lamp was terrible! Somebody gave it to us so we had to keep it (Rosa 221). This demonstrates that, sometimes, breaking something or messing up was alright, because it was a natural error that was accepted instead of a death penalty. In the school system, stereotypes took a role in younger Italian children and what they were good at. The main character in Mount ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 45. Mediation Is An Effective Method Of Dispute Resolution One of the most peaceful and highly sought after ways of resolving conflict is mediation. It is the process where a mutually acceptable third party, with no authority to make descisions, intervenes and helps involved parties improve their relationships, enhance communication, and use effective problem solving and negotiation procedures to reach mutually understanding or agreement. Based on the current research found, mediation is an effective method of dispute resolution. In studies prior to 1990, the reported settlement rate was approximately 60 percent and for the 1990 2000 decade, the reported rate on average was 75 percent . For our most recent decade, this rate is about the same, roughly and 80 percent agreement rate. One of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... For example, in the case study we did in lecture, many a times the reasons behind another person s actions is not solely because of money, but rather by principles and values that were violated by the other party. Hence when one party understands the circumstances and personal reasons certain actions were made by another, movement from entrenched positions become more possible. Lastly, once they are able to air their moral framework, and come to a common solution, the end result would be parties feeling psychologically more complete and satisfied. According to an article by Dr Pinzon Salcedo (2002), that by not having a deeper reflection of one s true purpose in the mediation process, close to 25% of participants who reach an agreement still express dissatisfaction. On one of the mediation discussions we had, we realised that as the facts behind each party s anger and resentment were not provided, this always leaves the opposite party feeling confused and frustrated by the behaviour of the aggrieved person. Upon having a sharing of their moral framework privately or openly, the mediation moves from the realm of physical demands, to really addressing the root of the problem behind any hostilities. Therefore, when a successful mediation occurs, both parties are psychologically more at peace with the decisions that are being made. This is large in part due to their own form justice or beliefs are being satisfied as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

McDonalds Corporation Marisol Mata Devry University HRM 430 McDonalds Corporation is the organization I selected with compensation or benefit challenges. Since McDonalds opened their doors in 1955 people have been coming not only to enjoy a good meal, but they have been employed by the biggest food chain in the world. By 1958, McDonald s had sold its 100 millionth hamburger. Ray Kroc wanted to build a restaurant system that would be famous for providing food of consistently high quality and uniform methods of preparation. He wanted to serve burgers, buns, fries, and beverages that tasted the same in Alaska as they did in Alabama. (about.McDonalds.com) To achieve this, Ray Kroc chose a unique path: persuading both franchisees and suppliers to buy into his vision, working not for McDonald s but for themselves, together with McDonald s. He promoted the slogan, In business for yourself, but not by yourself. His philosophy was based on the simple principle of a 3 legged stool: one leg was McDonald s franchisees; the second, McDonald s suppliers; and the third, McDonald s employees. The stool was only as strong as the three legs that formed its foundation. McDonald s benefits and compensation program is designed to attract, retain and engage talented people who will deliver strong performance and help McDonald s achieve their business goals and objectives. The benefits and compensation include Medical, Dental, Profit Sharing, Vacation, Sabbatical ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 47. The Problem With Vietnam Essays The Problem With Vietnam Wartime in the United States has always placed pressure on the government and the citizens of the country to provide support by whatever means to the situation. During World War II, that support was propagated by the government in the form of censorship and a strategic public relations plan to maintain the public opinion in favor of the cause. Glorification of America s involvement in the war helped America maintain the image of a cause worth fighting for. Technology and de censorship would later transform America and the world s image of war, which had been formed by such propaganda as seen during WWII, into the truth about war as seen in the media s coverage of the Vietnam War. During this period, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, the flip side to the censorship, the side that is not often seen, is the fact that this helped to break down many barriers in the country, including race, gender and even religious. Its effects on the outcome of the war cannot be measured by traditional means, but indeed it created an atmosphere of pride and loyalty for one s country. World War II may have been a censored war, but that censorship may have indeed won that war. According to Philip Knightley s The First Casualty during World War I, censorship was so tight that even reports of a gift of wine cases to American troops by the French were not reported for fear of making the American s look unsavory (Alter 38). An after effect of World War II s propagation can be seen in the tremendous press coverage of the Vietnam War. Feelings of mistrust and betrayal toward the US government could very well have been why Vietnam had so much coverage. American citizens wanted the truth, feeling that they had been lied to for so many years. The truth was what was received thanks to Television (Alter 38). Nicknamed the Living Room War , images of death and destruction could be seen first hand. Uncensored images filled the TV screens as millions of Americans watched their country battle communism in a foreign land. For the first time, many people could see the truth about war. • 48. Gary Paulsen s Nightjohn In 1993, Gary Paulsen wrote the book Nightjohn. Nightjohn is a book set in the 1850s, during slavery. It shows the thoughts and views of a twelve year old girl named Sarny. Sarny is a black slave girl, who is uneducated, malnourished, and living life the best she can. Suddenly, a man by the name of Nightjohn is brought to the plantation. Sarny traded tobacco for learning the alphabet from Nightjohn. Nightjohn ran away one night, and was thought to never return, but actually he created a hidden, underground school. Nightjohn could have been inspired by two interviews, Uncle Billy McCrea s and Walter Calloway s. Nightjohn was influenced by real slave interviews. One of the interviews in the archive is an interview from Uncle Billy McCrea. McCrea said, ...they d take them, hang them up by his thumb. In the story Nightjohn, one ... Calloway s recall of his slave times were similar ,yet different to Nightjohn. Slave interviews helped Paulsen describe the cruelty of slavery. His uses of descriptive words and phrases help readers visualize the torture the slaves had to endure.
