African, Medieval Kingdom Of Mali, Questions And Answers
1. Were you surprised by anything you read in the sources on the African, medieval kingdom of Mali?
I was surprised by how big the Mali Empire was, and how many people lived in the land (roughly size
of western Europe, 50 million people). I was also surprised by how rich Mansa Musa was so rich that
500 slaves could go before him caring golden staffs that were four pounds!
2. As the people of medical West Africa did not generally record information through their own
written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information
known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities in
the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and Gao,
architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records. Simerly,
Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would have come
to the Mali Empire to study. During their stay, the students would also have written about the empire.
Finally, traders would have also have helped historians learn about the Mali Empire. By recording
what items were traded, and how much of each item was traded, historians would know about the
wealth of Mali. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Based on the sources you have read thus far, what role does trade appear to play in cultural and
economic progress in the civilizations you encountered in these readings and perhaps in those you
studied in the 8th grade? In most cases, trade provides wealth to the region, which in turn stabilizes
and fortifies it. With the security the region has, the people start to flourish, and arts, learning and
technology grow. For example, when trade started to flourish in Europe, towns were established, new
farming techniques were discovered and people could start to specialize in jobs other than farming.
Also Venice, Marco Polo s hometown, was established, and also flourished, because of

David Geffen Hall Concert Report
On the 27th of April, I attended an open rehearsal for the New York Philharmonic at the David Geffen
at Lincoln Center. Going to the David Geffen Hall for the first time, I came with high expectations on
the size of the place. The venue wasn t as big as I thought it would be, but it was big enough for the
standard orchestra size. The setting of the place as I entered was quiet and serene, with the spotlight on
the orchestra and conductor Alan Gilbert. In order to fully enjoy the performance no phones or
speaking were allowed when they performance went on. The audience followed this rule with
conviction, and made it easier for a new comer like me to try to understand the pieces that were being
played. One thing that impressed me with my fellow audience members was that fact that they were
able to identify the pieces ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I enjoyed this because it was easier to understand and made more sense. Compared to Apres by Franck
Krawczyk which was came off as a collection of random sounds the Brahms s piece flowed together
nicely and felt more uniformed. Symphony No.2 in D major, Op 73 by Johannes Brahms is an
estimated 46 minute piece that is composed of four movements. The first movement is in Allegro non
troppo, the second movement Adagio non troppo, the third movement Allegretto grazioso and the
fourth movement Allegro con spirito. The music period the symphony is from the Romantic era.
Although my program didn t outright state what the piece was about, it did gave off a nature like vibe.
The nature vibe I got from the piece is a prime aspect of Romantic music, which was all about nature
and the supernatural. As mentioned in my program a key feature of Brahms Symphony No.2 in D
major, Op 73 is its similarity to Beethoven s Symphony no.6 in F major, Op 68 (Pastoral Symphony).
Both works give off a feeling of nature. However Beethoven s piece lets the audience know what it is

Cherokee And Indian Culture
A large part of the formation of our country and Western society involved interaction with tribes of
Native Americans that inhabited North America well before Europeans settled it. It started with
Spanish conquistadors and explorers, then British colonies which would mold and change into the
revolutionized American Colonists. Along this succession, the Indian tribes on the east coast
experienced extreme prejudice, regime changes and war. Among these tribes are the Cherokee. The
Cherokee were at the forefront of Indian European relations. They remained strong in the southeast,
despite war and epidemic. The Cherokee underwent significant culture changes yet not always by
choice. War and disease tore apart the Cherokee as well other tribes but

A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson
Abortion is a major issue that has lead to many different opinions, ideas, and various debates.
Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position,
whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve
every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an
entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is
considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position
leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die
attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be
considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although
Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the
validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the
analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped
and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a
functioning kidney. With that analogy, Thomson argues that an individual s right to agency trumps
over another person s right to life if that person has to depend on and is a burden to the

Sinners In The Hands Of An Angry God Analysis
Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God by Johnathan Edwards details the significance of God s wrath
over the wicked and unbelieving Israelites. Johnathan Edwards cleverly explains the reasoning behind
why God punishes the unbelieving, the way that he does. Edwards writes this sermon to inform
sinners of the fatal agony that will be bestowed upon them if they continue to rebel in God s name and
do not save themselves. His use of vivid imagery, symbols, and content contribute to the power and
persuasiveness of the torturous fate of God s wrath to sinners.
Edwards is skilled in creating a vivid picture to the audience of what he is talking about. ...as he that

...their foot shall slide in due time... (156.4) This line symbolizes the punishment that God has
prepared for the wicked Israelites. Not only will they slip into the punishment, but it will happen very
soon and when they least expect it. This is very important in persuading the audience that God is near
and his wrath would fall upon them at any given moment. Edwards does a good job at explaining this
line in a multitude of views during his sermon. ...to come to that place of torment... (159.26) That
place of torment represents Hell. Throughout the entirety of the sermon, Hell seems to mean torment,
wrath, and destruction. To use the word torment gives off the sense that God s wrath is ultimately
horrible and the symbolization shows that. ...eternal death... (160.1) This line showcases the results of
eternal damnation and tells the audience that the sinner may never again live and may not die happily.
This is a powerful aspect in Edwards sermon because it serves the purpose to scare unbelievers into
the fact that God s wrath will never turn out good in the end. The symbols in this essay do good to
explain certain aspects of God s wrath without having to actually state the

Use and Abuse of Benzodiazepines
Use and abuse of Benzodiazepines
Introduction
Sedative hypnotics, including benzodiazepines, are a group of drugs used to treat the symptoms of
anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia.
Benzodiazepines are one of the most prescribed drugs which have abuse potential.
There must be special attention toward the patient s addiction history before these agents are
prescribed. An understanding of the toxicity and side effects of benzodiazepines, abuse patterns and
alternative anxiolytic and hypnotic agents may help clinicians to be safe from issues of medico legal
case.
Mechanism of action
It acts by following ways
Benzodiazepine receptors are linked mainly to γ amino butyric acid (GABA) receptors, which
sensitize benzodiazepine receptors to the neurotransmitter GABA, the most prominent inhibitory
neurotransmitter in the central nervous system.
Enhance the affinity of the recognition site for GABA by inducing conformational changes that make
GABA binding more efficacious.
Activation of the benzodiazepine GABA chloride ionophor complex is responsible for producing the
therapeutic anxiolytic effects of benzodiazepines and for mediating many of the side effects and,
possibly, dependence and withdrawal from these drugs.
Clinical use
Following are the use of benzodiazepines
Amnesia before or after surgery
Anxiety disorders
 Generalized anxiety disorder
 Panic disorder
 Phobias (social, simple)
 Post traumatic stress disorder
 Obsessive compulsive disorder

Ginsburg V. City Of Ithaca And Cornell University Case Study
Title: Ginsburg v. City of Ithaca and Cornell University et al., 839 F. Supp. 2d. 537 (N.D.N.Y. 2012).
Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg,
Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural
posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg,
filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc
Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for Bradley s
wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about
February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after
jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation showed that
Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life,
but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate
precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus
between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca
exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue
Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause
injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the
safety of individual s using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1)
No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major part in the City of
Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to their
failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over
aesthetics even with the prior knowledge of past suicidal events. Galindo v. Town of Clarkstown, 2

College Athletes Should Not Be Paid
In the spring of 2014, the Northwestern University football team did something that has never been
done before in the history of college sports. Several scholarship players voted on whether the team
should unionize. These same players believe that they should be compensated for their play on the
athletic field. Countless collegiate sports fans also believe that college athletes from around the
country should be compensated for playing sports; however, paying college athletes would cause
multiple problems in college athletics. Most people do not understand how much student athletes are
given to them free of charge just to attend a university, while the majority of other average students
are stuck with the burden of paying for their education. College athletes should not be paid since
schools do not have the money to pay student athletes, it would not be fair for athletes who do not play
football or basketball, and they have athletic scholarships that allow them to receive a free education.
Various people around the country believe that since football and basketball are such large sports, that
they bring in enough money to pay all athletes at that college. This is simply not the case. According
to Jeffrey Dorfman, a professor of economics at the University of Georgia, only 23 out of 228
Division I athletic programs managed to run a surplus in 2012 (par. 7). This means that it would be
impossible for schools to pay their athletes since they do not generate money on those

The Four Steps Of The Two-Track Model Of Bereavement
The Two Track Model of Bereavement is a model that states loss is conceptualized along two axes.
Track I pertains to the biopsychosocial functioning in the event of a loss and Track II pertains to the
bereaved s continued emotional attachment and relationship to whoever is deceased. The effect of
Track I is seen through the bereaved s functioning, including their anxiety, their self esteem and self
worth, and their depressive affect and cognitions. Noting the ability of one to invest in life tasks after
experiencing a loss indicates how they are responding to the loss of the deceased. This Track is seen as
an expression similar to one of trauma, or crisis. Track II holds that the bereaved has difficulty
physically separating from the deceased. This can be seen in emotional, interpersonal, or cognitive
ways. It is shown through imagery and memories that the bereaved experiences surrounding the
deceased, whether positive or negative, as well as the emotional distance from them. These pictures in
the bereaved s head explain both the cognitive and emotional view of the person who has died (Rubin,
1999).
Four Steps of the Two Track Model of Bereavement
For those experiencing loss, it is common they experience similar stages while loss is assimilated.
Rubin (1999) states that in the first stage, the bereaved loses a close relationship, clearly impacting
them. One s homeostatic functioning will likely undergo changes, but these will return to normal, or
almost normal, once this

Cortot
In the painting, The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre, Pierre Auguste Renoir displays the idea of
beauty being universal, however humans have a tendency to neglect it.
Pierre Auguste Renoir was a highly regarded French painter, who was very well known for his leading
role in Impressionist painting. The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre, is a great example of
impressionism because of its bright colors and lifelike details. Upon first viewing this painting, the
viewer s eyes are immediately drawn to the vivid colors of the flowers in the foreground of the
painting. Renoir paints the foreground overwhelmingly busy which causes the viewer s eyes to be
filled with the beauty of nature in the first glance of the painting, Despite how busy it is, ... Show more

This choice of color creates a change in lighting from the foreground being lighter and the background
being darker. In contrast to the busy foreground, the background is more barren and spaced out.
Furthermore, trees and the two men in the upper left corner to take over the background. Additionally,
the viewer s eyes are first taken to the two men having a conversation in what looks to be the woods.
These men are oblivious to anything that is going on around them as they are both engaged in a
conversation together. In the information listed next to this painting in the Carnegie Museum of Art,
the two men are believed to be Claude Monet and Alfred Sisley, both of which are famous
Impressionist painters, or the two men are also believed to be Monet and Renoir, himself. The neglect
of the beauty that is right in front of the men is still comparable to today s era. People often focus on
materialistic beauty rather than the natural beauty that is right in front of them. As stated earlier, the
claw like branch is symbolic of nature consistently trying to wow humankind by reaching out and
grabbing its attention.
Thus, humans having the tendency to neglect universal beauty is displayed by Pierre Auguste Renoir
in his painting, The Garden in Rue Cortot, Montmartre. Beauty is universal, mankind just needs to
make a priority of opening their eyes to enjoy and appreciate

Pharmacy Vs Mail Order Pharmacy
A mail order pharmacy is a pharmacy that dispenses maintenance medications to patients through the
mail. Maintenance medications are medications that are taken on an ongoing basis such as daily,
weekly etc. for a chronic illness such as Diabetes, High Blood Pressure, Chronic Asthma and others.
Mail order pharmacy is intended to not only lower cost but to also be more convenient especially for
those who are not able to go to a location to pick them up but also for those who are not mobile. Mail
order pharmacy differs from the others because medications are sent directly to the customer home or
facility they are housed in saving them time and money.
Another difference because it is an extremely high volume pharmacy due to so many customers ...

Technicians also have the ability to rotate to different work areas every few hours if desired. A
disadvantage for some is the lack of contact with customers, there is more data entry and the
production is higher than that of a traditional retail pharmacy.
Hospital Pharmacy is located within the hospital most hospital pharmacies are classified as
institutional but older hospitals have one central inpatient pharmacy that is responsible for supplying
the entire hospital and all clinics. Hospital pharmacies also have satellite and discharge pharmacies. A
satellite pharmacy is a small speciality pharmacy that supplies a clinic such as the emergency
department or an entire floor of the hospital.
A discharge pharmacy also known as an outpatient pharmacy fills prescriptions in the same manner as
a community pharmacy except it is inside the hospital. Hospital pharmacies specialize in all
intravenous antibiotics, chemotherapy drugs and large volume parenteral

The Three Characteristics Of The Heroic Code In Beowulf
Despite all the that has passed since it was written, Beowulf, is still studied and admired to this day as
one of the greatest pieces of literature. The epic is story of brave hero called Beowulf whom fights
three horrifying monsters, each different and more difficult than the last one. He lives and dies by a
code known as the heroic code, which what will be discussed in this essay. The three main
characteristics that, according to the heroic code, are expected to be displayed by a warrior are:
courage, strength, and loyalty. Each has its positive and negative aspects. Some of the negative aspects
being along the lines of pride and what it entails. Many of the Christian views of the narrator debate
the heroic code as being a bit pointless. As the narrator points out in the story the heroic code,
although it sounds ideal and very admirable, it is quite flawed nonetheless.
The first characteristic in the heroic code is courage. Although both courage and bravery are indeed
excellent characteristics to have, especially when in immediate danger, they appear to be a bit
debatable to the narrator. Courage is highly valued, especially when telling stories of your heroism.
Often, for undaunted courage, fate spares the man it has not yet marked (572 573). However, because
many pagan beliefs in Beowulf don t say much about the afterlife, courage and boasting about your
heroism tend to go hand in hand. The belief that stories of your courage would result in people always

My bullet dodge ability and building dodge skills could use some work, but at least my judging ability

Negative Effects Of The Pol Pot Regime
Prior to the history of the Pol Pot Regime that occurred in Cambodia, there were many conflicts that
sparked within the government. In April 1975, Cambodia s government had gone through significant
drastic changes, and many of the citizens were forced to leave their own lifestyles.1 The importance of
a changing government could be seen as crucial because during this time period, government
reformations created a negative impact towards the citizens. The Khmer Rouge were Maoist forces led

NASA s decision was mainly influenced by the price. Other competitors such as Orbital ATK and
SpaceX has more affordable options (PASZTOR). The company s bid consisted of the Jupiter reusable
spacecraft, Exoliner cargo container and a long robotic arm inspired by a similar appendage on the

Another key issue that the space systems industry itself faces is the growing cyber attacks. These
potential cyber attacks affect the functionality of existing satellites and potentially destroy them for

`` Hyperesthesia, Or, The Sensual Logic Of Late Capitalism ``
Often times, our senses can trigger memories that are hidden in the crevices throughout our brain. The
smell of fresh linen can activate a childhood memory of playing in the backyard while a parent hangs
wet laundry on a clothesline. The taste of gingerbread ice cream can awaken a memory of visiting
grandma s house. The sight of purple daisies can arouse a memory of attending a wedding decorated
with purple daisies. Senses stimulate our memories because according to cultural anthropologist
Constance Classen, senses themselves may each be linked with different trains of associations
(Classen 1997: 401). Because of this link, senses and memories have an interwoven relationship.
Furthermore, some consumer capitalists have exploited this interrelationship to profit themselves.
In David Howes article, HYPERESTHESIA, or, The Sensual Logic of Late Capitalism, Howes
explains how capitalists today are focusing on multisensory marketing to fully evoke a sensual
experience when one walks into a store or passes by a product (Howes 2005: 298) . This way, the
shopper will be more alert and therefore, be more inclined to purchase goods. This phenomenon is
known as hyperesthesia, which is the heightened experience of senses. This experience fully engulfs
one s sight, smell, hearing, taste, or touch, which can cause an overwhelming yet unforgettable
sensation. Some critics have viewed this hypersensuality as an excessive notion to seduce consumers
into purchasing goods; however others

The Effects Of HIV Testing In Pregnant Women
HIV can be transmitted from an HIV infected mother to her newborn child. According to the World
Health Organization (WHO), without antiretroviral treatment of the mother, up to 30% of infants born
to HIV positive mother s become infected with HIV themselves. The number increases to 35% 50% if
the mother breastfeeds the baby (aidsinfonet, 2014). The risk of HIV transmission to the infant from
the mother decreases significantly if the mother used antiretrovirals throughout pregnancy and labor.
If the mother does not breastfeed, the HIV transmission risk is also decreased (aidsinfonet, 2014).

A second HIV test in the third trimester is recommended for women who are at a high risk of
contracting HIV. This would include women whose partners are known to be HIV positive, and for
those women who have had sexual intercourse with a new partner during the pregnancy (Prevention,
An Opt Out Approach to HIV Screening, 2017). HIV testing in the third trimester is also
recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention if the pregnant women are in a
geographic region that has a high prevalence of HIV (Prevention, An Opt Out Approach to HIV

can increase the number of pregnant women tested for HIV, which leads to an increase of pregnant
women who are aware of their HIV status (Prevention, An Opt Out Approach to HIV Screening,
2017). The Opt out approach also increases the number of HIV infected women who are offered
treatment which would lead to a reduction in vertical HIV transmission (Prevention, An Opt Out

Institutional Animal Experimentation
Have you ever wondered why animals are used in experimentation? Each year over 100 million are
killed due to experiments for biology lessons, medical training, chemical, drug, food, cosmetic testing,
and curiosity driven experimentation. The better question is why? Why use animal when there are
many alternatives. Animals may not be able to speak up for themselves but humans have a voice for
them. Many people have participated in protest, taken surveys, and created organizations to protect
animals from the cruelty. Did you know that animals that are found in laboratories are not all legally
protected? There are a couple organizations provided by Legal Animal Defense Fund that protect
animals from being illegally used, such as Association for Assessment and Accreditation of
Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) and mandatory Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees

Building A Computer That Can Handle Any Game
Computers consist of many different parts that, in order to perform a specific task, have to work in
unison. It s becoming more and more popular to build a PC rather than buying a pre assembled one
because many companies just rip people off. My fascination with building computers peaked when I
tried to play a game called Minecraft, but instead of the game loading up as it did on my friend s
computer, on mine it kept crashing. Minecraft is a game where players are all united in one world
where they have to work in order to survive. Unfortunately, my antique computer couldn t handle this
simple game; therefore, I never had the opportunity to play it. So I decided to build a super computer
that can handle any game. From that day on my passion for computers extended towards a whole new
level. Since I had little understanding about computers I needed to find a way to jumpstart my
knowledge. Even before determining what type of computer I wanted to build, I had to first study
computers, how they work and the different functions of all the components. Researching online and
watching numerous How to videos provided many answers to my questions. Having a stronger
foundation in computer assembly, I decided to finally step foot into the realm of building. I switched
on my computer and proceeded to the Newegg website, which is a trusted computer equipment
manufacturer. Pictures and descriptions filled the page as it was done loading, and I proceeded to

Due to the abuse that Delia suffers in the short story Sweat by Zora Hurston, she becomes stronger
and gains independence. Sykes is a overcontrolling husband and frequently abuses Delia throughout
their marriage. He does this in several different ways. First is verbal, he is always yelling and at Delia
and never has anything nice to say. Along with a general rudeness toward her he makes threats to her,
saying things such as, Ah oughter mash you in yo mouf fuh drawing dat skillet on me (Hurston 3).
This threatening manner eventually stops working as she grew numb to his threats after fifteen years
of marriage. So, in response to her numbness he escalates his abuse by physically assaulting her. The
third way he torments his wife is psychologically ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Her strength is a mental strength and she is stronger than most. Although Sykes is able to physically
abuse her and stoops to lows such as abuse she still fights back. This is surprising as women during
this time were expected to be completely submissive and obey their husband s command. Instead she
ignores him since she knows that she is the dominant one. Even the men at the shop recognize that she
is the provider in the family and that Sykes is an abuser. They also recognize the effect the abuse had
on her and her appearance. They say the women Never wuz de same in de mind (Hurston 4). They
also say Delia wuz ez pretty ez a speckled pup (Hurston 4). Now though she does not look the same as
she did when she first married Sykes. Despite her abuse from her husband she grows stronger because
of it. She does this by simply getting used to it. This is why he keeps changing his ways of abuse,
because she has over come them and has become numb to them. Eventually everything will reach a

In the previous article, it was evident that awareness of one s illness was linked to the better function
outcomes and lower self esteem and hope. The explanation that was given for such findings was based
on the concept that acceptance would impact on the outcomes in different ways depending on the
meaning that one attaches to the acceptance. In this case, variability will be evident depending on the
extent that one accepts stigmatizing ideologies and beliefs concerning mental illnesses. Unique from
people with other psychiatric and mental conditions, schizophrenia individuals will more often than
not willfully contest or are unaware of what others think of them to be mentally ill. Taken fully, the
phenomena was described as a lack of awareness but showed a contradiction with some part of the
results. From the results, it was concluded that acceptance of schizophrenia is highly dependent on the
meaning that the patient attaches to schizophrenia. In the article, it was believed that if one believes
that the illness is an implication that they cannot achieve some socially valued roles, and this could
lead to hopelessness and demotivation of perseverance. Nonetheless, if the patient does not share in
the opinion thatillness can preclude the possibilities of satisfying life, then the patient s awareness of
the condition will make them seek

Essay on hannibal
From the middle of the 3rd century to the middle of the 2nd century BC, Carthage was engaged in a
series of wars with Rome (Dorey, P 57). These wars, known as the Punic Wars, ended in the complete
defeat of Carthage by Rome. The most prominent figure of the Punic wars was General Hannibal of
Pheonician Carthage. During these wars, it s likely that the colonizing expeditions of the
Carthaginians were supported by many emigrants from the Phoenician homeland. Hannibal was the
son of the great Carthaginian general Hamilcar Barca. According to Polybius and Livy, the main Latin

Finally on the 15th day, after a journey of five months from Cartagena, with 20,000 infantry, 6,000
cavalry, and only a few of the original 38 elephants, Hannibal descended into Italy, having surmounted
the difficulties of climate and terrain, the guerrilla tactics of inaccessible tribes, and the major
difficulty of commanding a body of men diverse in race and language under conditions to which they
were ill fitted (wsu.edu). Hannibal s forces were now totally inadequate to match the army of Scipio,
who had rushed to the Po River to protect the recently founded Roman colonies of Placentia (modern
Piacenza) and Cremona. The first action between the two armies took place on the plains west of the
Ticino River, and Hannibal s Numidian cavalry prevailed. Scipio was severely wounded, and the
Romans withdrew to Placentia. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined
armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of
Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians
to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter

installing commercial alarm systems. All according to Marilyn Bardsley, this is how Rader learned to
disable home security systems. He would later use this knowledge in his killings. Rader s first victims
were the Otero family, a family of four. As reported by Juan Ignacio, he did not know these people
before committing the murder which he said was a part of his fantasy. Dennis broke into the family s
house by coming in through the unlocked back door and cutting the phone lines. He confronted the
family at gunpoint and took them into a bedroom. Rader then tied all of them up with rope and
individually suffocated them one by one. He then took the family s car keys and drove away in escape.
After a killing, Dennis was famous for sending letters to the police and local news. His letters
described the specific way of his killings. He would anonymously send multiple letters each with very
specific details of his crimes. According to Steven Singular, his first letter was hidden in an

Time Capsules from Renaissance and Baroque Periods
For almost two years, we have been in search of what we believed were time capsules, hidden away
between the years of 1400, when the Renaissance period started, and 1750 which marks the end of the
Baroque period. We are pleased to announce that our nearly twenty four year search has ended in the
discovery of two such capsules. Each of these capsules contains information, vital to the
understanding of past cultures and their origins, and necessary to the development of culture today. In
what we re now referring to as Cap A , we have discovered two very well known pieces of Art. One,
now referred to as the world s most famous smile, is the Mona Lisa. Leonardo Da Vinci created this
masterpiece in 1503 using a style known as ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
He also composed and left for us, Missa Prolatium .
There was a second capsule discovered which we ll call Capsule B. In this capsule are reminders for
us of life during the Baroque Period. John Locke, who was born in 1632 and died at the age of 73, left
for us his most famous works. The Essay Concerning Human Understanding tries to answer the
questions where ideas come from and are our senses reliable. Another very famous, more reliable
philosopher, Baruch Spinoza left behind his works in which he discredited the scriptures because he
said they were all influenced by the period in which they were written. He claimed that Jesus preached
a religion of reason that valued love higher that all else. He was later excommunicated.
It seems, one week after his death, Peter Paul Rubens home was inventoried and there were thousands
of works found inside. The Adoration of the Magi, and Sampson and Delilah were found among the
collection of work. Renaissance literature that will forever be etched in our minds was discovered in
this capsule. One of the greatest influences of our time left evidence of his existence. William
Shakespeare deposited two of his most famous works into this capsule. Romeo and Juliet and Hamlet
were these two literary masterpieces. Although Shakespeare never published any of his work, he did
feel it important to leave these two plays in this capsule.

like to be in the middle of a traumatic tragedy. There were some who were lucky to survive the
tragedy, but there was something they needed to have, which was to trust, the survivors needed to trust
that they make it through. Trust is a needful thing even though it has been a hard thing to get and to

reasons. Swan had an abusive stepfather not only to her, but Darlene is known as Uncle Tommy. An
abusive jerk when he was drunk and even accusing Darlene as McCammon states, what am I supposed

The New Image Of The Tories
Most importantly, this reform successfully built the new image of the Tories, which humanized
Thatcherite ruthless policies and make the Tories electable for another term. The European issue was
the most problematic issue throughout Major s governance. Polarized opinions divided not only the
country, the Tories, but the cabinet itself. Major failed to manage the government to run effectively on
European issues as the government motion had been opposed in parliament (Bale,2011; Cowley and

worse by chaotic organization and communication within relative personals. When Major first stepped
in as the Prime Minister, the election is only 18 months ahead. Worse, his predecessor was hugely
unpopular with the government, the morale of the Tories was low as losing a bunch of safe seat by

decided to run the electoral campaign in a different way. He built up a cabinet based on their ability,

Beck often uses what seem to be scare tactics to get of his points across; whereas Schultz is more

Neither method is successful in trying to create a balanced news outlet. In fact, the opinions of each

Statins (also known as 3 hydroxy 3 methylgutaryl coenzyme A reductase inhibitors) are widely
prescribed cholesterol lowering drugs for the treatment of dyslipidemia and cardiovascular disease.
Although they are considered to be drugs with a very good safety profile, there are many concerns that
their adverse effects might compromise their proven beneficial effects due to their extensive usage.
Even though more aggressive lipid lowering with potent statins in high doses can reduce rates of non

Certain drugs, such as calcium channel blockers, are considered weaker CYP3A4 inhibitors and
appear to increase statin rhabdomyolysis risk to a lower degree. Furthermore, grapefruit juice and
pomegranate juice inhibit CYP3A4 and have been presumptively linked to statin rhabdomyolysis.
In conclusion, statins are the mainstay of lipid lowering therapy, with multiple studies confirming that

Acute And Chronic Effects On The Body System
Assignment 1
Task 1
As you exercise, changes occur in your body system known as acute and chronic effects. Acute effects
on the body system contain short term effects and they would occur straightway when performing
exercise. Whereas, chronic effects on the body system contain long term effects and it is adaptable to
the body system so new demands are encountered within the future. There are different systems that
occur in our body: musculoskeletal system, energy system, respiratory system and cardiovascular
system.
Musculoskeletal system
Firstly, the musculoskeletal system includes your muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and cartilage.
The nervous system is also at times used to control the musculoskeletal system; this would allow
voluntary movement to take place. The impulses around the body help contract muscles; as a muscle
contracts it would shorten and pull the attached bone to it. As well as this, the skeletal system
maintains a structure and posture for the body and allows movement to take place, and so it produces
heat by contracting muscles. Some of the acute changes that take place in the musculoskeletal system
are:
Increased blood supply having an increased blood supply would allow more oxygen to be taken in as
the heart will quickly pump blood around the body. An increased blood supply is required because of
more oxygen and metabolic activity needed whilst exercising. There is a higher demand for oxygen
and it helps remove carbon dioxide. A sporting example

This technique might be associated with Peralta s authorship, but I have not seen enough of his films
to determine that. I also noticed the sped up interview sections in this film as well. I believe that the
fancy editing and animations are to meant to keep the viewer interested by presenting the message in a
visually compelling way to hold the audience s attention. In order for the filmmakers to understand
how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes
directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods
WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for
interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about
things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical
in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not
experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to
share their opinions and beliefs. There were also people questioning Peralta s credibility, suggesting
that a white former surfer/skateboarder has no type of relation to the gang culture of South Central La
and that he does not fit to tell the story. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an
exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is
one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black
communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. The film did not really mention anything about
the mechanics of the gang lifestyle. Why not? I do think that there could have been some information
included about the structure of the gangs and their daily

Foreaskin Research Paper
Foreskin Hygiene, Pediatric
The foreskin is the loose skin that covers the head of the penis (glans). Keeping the foreskin area clean
can help prevent infection and other conditions. If this area is not cleaned, a creamy substance called
smegma can collect under the foreskin and cause odor and irritation.
The foreskin of an infant or toddler does not need unique hygiene care. You should wash the penis the
same way as any other part of your child s body, making sure you rinse off any soap. Cleaning inside
the foreskin is not necessary for children that young.
RETRACTING THE FORESKIN
Usually, the foreskin will fully separate from the glans by age 5 years, but it may separate as early as
age 2 years or as late as puberty.
When the foreskin has separated from the glans, it can be pulled back (retracted) so that the glans can
be cleaned.

Forcing the foreskin to retract can injure it and cause problems.
Children should be allowed to retract the foreskin on their own when they are ready.
KEEPING THE FORESKIN AREA CLEAN
Before puberty, the foreskin area should be cleaned from time to time or as needed.
After puberty, it should be cleaned every day.
Until the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash over the foreskin with soap and water.
When the foreskin can be easily retracted, wash the area under the foreskin in the shower or bathtub:
1 Gently retract the foreskin to uncover the glans. Do not retract the foreskin farther back than is
comfortable. The distance the foreskin can retract varies from person to person.
2 Wash the glans with mild soap and water. Rinse the area thoroughly.
3 Dry the glans when you get out of the shower or bathtub.
4 Slide the foreskin back to its regular position.
Teach your child to perform these steps on his own when he is ready to start bathing himself.
During urination, a bit of foreskin should always be retracted to keep the glans

Economic Integration And The European Union
After the horrific aftermath that was created by World War II, Europe worked towards economic and
political integration. The economic integration began in 1958, with the creation of the European
Economic Community (EEC), which included Germany, France, Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg and the
Netherlands. The EEC removed tariffs on goods produced within those six countries, in order to
promote trade and reconstruction after the war. In 1993 the EEC was renamed to the European Union
(EU), when the focus of just economic integration began to include policies of climate, environment
and health to external relations and security, justice and migration in Europe (Europa). In 1981,
Greece became a member of the EU. Twenty years later, Greece adopted the Euro as its currency.
Recently, Greece has been experiencing many economic problems, that threaten the overall stability of
the Euro. Although Greece is still part of the Eurozone today, its inability to pay off debt, lack of
effective reform, and its negative effect on the European Union as a whole, will eventually lead to its
exit from the Eurozone. The 2008 Great Recession, Greece had the highest debt in the European
Union. The Greek inefficient tax collection, and its unemployment was worse than unemployment in
the United States during the Great Depression, which made it very difficult to cut spending (O Brien).
Prior to joining the EU, Greece already experienced inflation and fiscal deficits (Johnston). Although

Their Eyes Were Watching God By Zora Hurston Essay
Hurston In the novel Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neal Hurston is about a young woman
named Janie Crawford who goes on a journey of self discovery to find her independence. The book
touches on many themes like gender roles, relations, independence and racism however racism isn t
mainly focused upon in the book which some writers felt should have been. Some felt that the
representation of black characters should have been better role models. Zora Hurston s novel wasn t
like other black literature. The challenges of what black writers had to face in representing black
culture and history were manly focuses on racism and the representation of black culture and history
however Zora Hurston novel was about independence and turned away from the stereotypical
structure of black literature; focusing more on black women has to deal with in a patriarchy structure.
Which can be shown by Janie s relationships with her grandmother, Logan Killlicks, Jody Stark , and
Tea Cake. In the world she was living in we learned how much her world was dominated by male
oppression and so Janie tries to separate herself from that. In the beginning of the book when Janie is
telling her story to her best friend Phoebe she mentions that she didn t know she was black when she
was really young till she saw herself in picture next to some white kids and didn t recognize herself.
Nora Hurston brings this in the book to show how far Janie had come by the end of the book. As a

Hiroshima Bombing Critique
Despite having our eyes wide open, we failed to actually see the world. Susan Neiman s article caught
me completely off guard. Even as someone who grew up outside of the United States, I was taught
educated by my teachers that the Atomic bombs, which exploded in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, were the
most crucial elements that led to the surrender of Japan during World War II. Many US historians also
argued that the bomb not only hasten hastens the end of the war, but also saved almost a million
American soldiers who could have died if the war was to continue. However, Neiman pointed out
sharply in her article that the US did not drop the (atomic) bomb in order to end the war or save lives.
(Neiman, 12) Through unclassified historical evidence, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
However, this is a logic logical fallacy that confuses our understanding in my opinion. First, there is a
fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary citizens of
Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese troops invaded
several countries, but should primary school children who had just began grasping the world be held
accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent schoolgirls, the uninvolved
foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the Jews? Second, even if we consider
the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference between civilians and soldiers during war
time, discrediting Japanese citizens through comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90)
To illustrate, a drunk driver should be held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if
it an old man or a kidnapper. The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the
victim s identity. Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of
Hiroshima a virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the
difference between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet
effective process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision.
As we constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to
recognise the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50
years. (Neiman, 23) Meanwhile the US interests are well served through promoting the picture of
simple evil, the great lost lies in the ignorance of the general

Write An Essay On White Tailed Deer
7. Van der Hoek D, Knapp AK, Briggs JM, and Bokdam J. 2002. White tailed deer browsing on six
shrub species of tallgrass prairie Great Plains Res 1:141. White tailed deer have made a tremendous
impact on native plant species and endangered ecosystems such as the tallgrass prairie. The purpose of
this article is to show how increasing deer populations effect the native shrubs in the Great Plains. In
this paper, researchers assessed six shrub species on deer activity in the summer time. Plant species
and deer trail placement had strong effects on the amount of shrub cover and browse pattern.
Researchers found that shrub cover was higher around deer trails than off or away from deer trails.
The data suggests that the shrub species most likely impacted by white tailed deer browsing were
woody plant species, or small trees and shrubs. The results suggest that even in summer when deer

It examines the how browsers can encourage positive conditions for temperate forest soils, such as
providing extra nitrogen in the soils as a fertilizer. They found evidence that deer populations promote
plant species biodiversity because it promotes invasive species that thrive off of degradation and
habitat disturbance. Also, researchers found one cost about deer browsing was that even though it
promotes plant biodiversity, it also decrease the amount of palatable, or edible, plant species. This is
useful in my paper because it provides a different outlook of the effects of deer because most articles
are negative towards deer browsing. The authors of this paper all work for the United States
Department of Agriculture Forest Service as research ecologists, all have their doctorates in ecology
and/or biology. This finding sharply contrasts with the negative impact that deer have when their
populations kill and over browse, harming native plant

How Did Rasputin Contribute To Andreat Hemophilia
Alexandra did little to dispel growing discontent for her husband. She ruled side by side with her
extremely influential friend, Grigory Rasputin. Rasputin was the only person able to treat the
hemophilia of her only son, Alexis, heir to the Russian throne. Rasputin s close relationship to the
Empress allowed him to gain his own sense of power. He quickly began dismissing efficient ministers
and appointing incompetent ministers solely on whether or not they supported him. Nicholas began to
be seen as a man who willingly let his incompetent wife run the government, while he attempted to
regain his pride on the western front. Conservatives began to plot against Nicholas in order to save
their monarchy.

With the direction the war was headed, revolution was inevitable. The Russian economy had virtually
collapsed and the world learned that Russia was no longer a military rival against anyone. In Saint
Petersburg in 1917, mass demonstrations resulted in armed clashes with police before the police
slowly abandoned Nicholas. In the last few days before the Russian monarch fell, the last of the royal
forces, including politicians and generals, sided with the revolutionaries. Nicholas now had no support
from anyone outside of the royal family. When Parliament called for his abdication, he had no choice
but to agree and relinquish his power. He agreed to abdicate in favor of his brother, who within hours
abdicated himself. Within one week, Russia had fallen. After 304 years of rule, the Romanov dynasty
ended. The Tsar was replaced by a Russian Provisional government. When the Provisional
Government first took control, there was an alliance between the liberals and the socialists who
wanted political reform. For the first time, the people were in power. This meant that the workers, the

Space Race Essay
We have always dreamed about reaching the heavens. From ancient civilizations to the modern day
world, our obsession of going into space has grown from studying the stars to actual exploration of
space. We have come a long way since primitive charts of constellations. From telescopes to satellites,
we as a population have progressed greatly in the world of technology. In a mere forty years, we have
had more technological advances than the Industrial Revolution. The Space Race has affected our
everyday lives; we use the same technology that the astronauts used during their missions for example
digital clocks (Dismukes http://spaceflight.nasa.gov). Many industries have benefited, communication

As the Germans were advancing in their knowledge, technology, and expertise in the field of rocketry,
the purpose of rockets had shifted from military to a civilian project. The government had deemed the
project unacceptable, and terminated it.
When the Germans showed the world that reaching the stars was not a far fetched idea, it was possible
to do an unbelievable feat of science and engineering. Although the German rocket project was
terminated, they had started the basis of modern day rocketry. The dream was growing to enormous
proportions. Various nations were interested in this technology, especially the U.S.S.R. and later the
United States of America (Snedden 9).
At Approximately the same time the government terminated the rocket project World War II was
coming to an end. The Soviets had captured Germany; and seized the technology, physicists, and
engineers, who had been working on the rocket project and later forced to work for the Russians (Neal

years later Russia launched the first successful satellite, Sputnik 1.
Sputnik consisted of a sphere the size of a basket, with four antennae transmitting various amounts of
information. As news of Sputnik spread throughout the world, it shocked and astounded the

Working With Nursing And Healthcare Leadership
Throughout this communication course I have learned and attempted to apply new skills in
communication and group interactions. I have collaborated with nursing and healthcare leadership
professionals on a project to improve communication and health outcomes for a specific population.
As our group has formed and developed during this quarter, I have identified strengths and
weaknesses in my ability to work within a group. The four stages of a group, as described by Connery
and Vohs (2006) will be discussed as they pertained to my perception of the group process and
outcomes this quarter. My communication strengths, weaknesses, and my adoption of the informal
roles outlined by Connery and Vohs (2006) with regard to group work will be analyzed as well as my
plan for utilizing my strengths and addressing my weaknesses for future interactions and group work.
Group Phases During our Forming phase, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006), we spent a little
time getting to know each other, but we stuck to the basics like names, work schedules and phone
numbers. After these initial introductions, we assigned the roles of coordinator and recorder and
discussed some group norms that we wanted to adopt for the quarter. We then started discussing the
focus of our group work and trying to devise a plan for how we will move through the quarter. I think
it is a normal reaction whenever anyone is meeting or working with someone for the first time to tend
to be more reserved and try and

High School Life Analysis
Four years ago, we, the students of the class of twenty seventeen, began our journey a journey filled
with ups and downs; a journey filled with positive and negative emotions; a journey filled with
success and failure. It seems like it was just yesterday that we began this difficult yet rewarding
journey through high school. I remember the days when we were all freshmen, and we could not wait
for this moment to come. We were impatient continuously counting down the days, weeks, semesters,
and years until we would graduate.
Now, this day has finally come, but are we satisfied with the success that we have created for
ourselves? Personally, I believe that the things that we have accomplished in the past four years are
phenomenal. No challenge was left alone without giving it a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

You made sure that we were on track to complete our work on time. You pushed us to our limits
because you saw that we could do better. You cared and loved for us no matter how. Thank you for
always being there because, without you, life is impossible.
And last but not least, to our friends that we have made. Thanks for being supportive at both the best
of times and the worst of times. You actually made school somewhat tolerable, and you helped keep
my sanity. Without you, life would be boring, so I thank you for making it enjoyable.
As you can see, many people have played major roles in our journey to success. These great people
have helped by opening up many opportunities, and by taking these opportunities, we can make the
world a better place for future generations. If we can accomplish this, which I believe we can, we will
show the greatest gratitude of all time.
By graduating from Warren High today, we are one step closer to making our wildest dreams come
true. No matter which path we travel, we will always remember our journey began here. We will grow
old knowing that Warren High is where everything

  • 2. African, Medieval Kingdom Of Mali, Questions And Answers 1. Were you surprised by anything you read in the sources on the African, medieval kingdom of Mali? I was surprised by how big the Mali Empire was, and how many people lived in the land (roughly size of western Europe, 50 million people). I was also surprised by how rich Mansa Musa was so rich that 500 slaves could go before him caring golden staffs that were four pounds! 2. As the people of medical West Africa did not generally record information through their own written language, how do you think historians know so much about Mali? A lot of the information known about the Mali Empire probably came from foreigners that visited a few of over 400 cities in the Mali Empire. Since Mansa Musa built large scale projects, like palaces in Timbuktu and Gao, architectural scholars and enthusiasts most likely visited them, and left detailed records. Simerly, Musa also promoted education, as he built a university. Because of this, foreigners would have come to the Mali Empire to study. During their stay, the students would also have written about the empire. Finally, traders would have also have helped historians learn about the Mali Empire. By recording what items were traded, and how much of each item was traded, historians would know about the wealth of Mali. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Based on the sources you have read thus far, what role does trade appear to play in cultural and economic progress in the civilizations you encountered in these readings and perhaps in those you studied in the 8th grade? In most cases, trade provides wealth to the region, which in turn stabilizes and fortifies it. With the security the region has, the people start to flourish, and arts, learning and technology grow. For example, when trade started to flourish in Europe, towns were established, new farming techniques were discovered and people could start to specialize in jobs other than farming. • 3. David Geffen Hall Concert Report On the 27th of April, I attended an open rehearsal for the New York Philharmonic at the David Geffen at Lincoln Center. Going to the David Geffen Hall for the first time, I came with high expectations on the size of the place. The venue wasn t as big as I thought it would be, but it was big enough for the standard orchestra size. The setting of the place as I entered was quiet and serene, with the spotlight on the orchestra and conductor Alan Gilbert. The music period the symphony is from the Romantic era. Although my program didn t outright state what the piece was about, it did gave off a nature like vibe. The nature vibe I got from the piece is a prime aspect of Romantic music, which was all about nature and the supernatural. As mentioned in my program a key feature of Brahms Symphony No.2 in D major, Op 73 is its similarity to Beethoven s Symphony no.6 in F major, Op 68 (Pastoral Symphony). • 5. A Defense Of Abortion By Judith Jarvis Thomson Abortion is a major issue that has lead to many different opinions, ideas, and various debates. Proponents for abortion often use the fact that a fetus is not a moral person to justify their position, whereas those who are against the issue often claim that a fetus is a moral person and should deserve every right a moral person has, including the right to live. Judith Jarvis Thomson, however, takes an entirely different approach. In her article A Defense of Abortion Thomson argues that even if a fetus is considered to be a human being does not automatically ensure it the right to live. Thomson s position leads to many oppositions and critiques. Foot s article, for example, Killing versus Letting Die attempts to point out the flaws in Thomson s argument. Foot claims that a fetus status must be considered when addressing the issue of abortion and that Thomson s argument is invalid. Although Thomson s argument may seem valid at first, Foot does offer considerable evidence critiquing the validity of Thomson s argument. One of the main issues Foot has with Thomson s argument is the analogy her paper consistently relies on to relay her position. In the analogy, a person is kidnapped and placed in a kidney machine that is connected to an ill violinist, who is in desperate need of a functioning kidney. With that analogy, Thomson argues that an individual s right to agency trumps over another person s right to life if that person has to depend on and is a burden to the ... Johnathan Edwards cleverly explains the reasoning behind why God punishes the unbelieving, the way that he does. Edwards writes this sermon to inform sinners of the fatal agony that will be bestowed upon them if they continue to rebel in God s name and do not save themselves. His use of vivid imagery, symbols, and content contribute to the power and persuasiveness of the torturous fate of God s wrath to sinners. Edwards does a good job at explaining this line in a multitude of views during his sermon. ...to come to that place of torment... (159.26) That place of torment represents Hell. Throughout the entirety of the sermon, Hell seems to mean torment, wrath, and destruction. To use the word torment gives off the sense that God s wrath is ultimately horrible and the symbolization shows that. ...eternal death... Use and Abuse of Benzodiazepines Use and abuse of Benzodiazepines Introduction Sedative hypnotics, including benzodiazepines, are a group of drugs used to treat the symptoms of anxiety, panic disorders, and insomnia. Benzodiazepines are one of the most prescribed drugs which have abuse potential. There must be special attention toward the patient s addiction history before these agents are prescribed. Parties: Plaintiff: Howard I. Ginsburg, as Administrator of the Estate of Bradley Marc Ginsburg, Defendants: City of Ithaca and Cornell University. Court: United States District Court. Procedural posture: The case is before the Northern District of New York after the plaintiff, Howard I. Ginsburg, filed an amended petition as the administrator of the estate of his deceased son, Bradley Marc Ginsburg, asking that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University be held negligent for Bradley s wrongful death as well as personal injuries and conscious pain and suffering. Facts: On or about February 16 or 17, 2010, a freshman Cornell student, Bradley Ginsburg, committed suicide after jumping to his death off the Thurston Avenue Bridge in Ithaca, New York. Investigation showed that Bradley exhibited no visible warning signs associated with someone thinking about ending their life, but the father alleged that the City of Ithaca and Cornell University failed to take appropriate precautions to secure the bridge after 26 prior suicides on it and the other six bridges near campus between 1990 and 2010. Issues: 1) Did Cornell University through planning with the City of Ithaca exercise sufficient control over the design, construction, and maintenance of the Thurston Avenue Bridge where they could not be held liable for any alleged hazards on the bridge that might cause injuries or death? 2) Did the City of Ithaca and Cornell University takes adequate steps to ensure the safety of individual s using the bridge at any time after the prior deaths were committed? Holdings: 1) No. Between the years of 2006 through 2007 Cornell University played a major part in the City of Ithaca s redesign and rebuilding of the Thurston Avenue Bridge but was irresponsible due to their failure to express the importance of adding railings and other preventive suicide measures over aesthetics even with the prior knowledge of past suicidal events. Several scholarship players voted on whether the team should unionize. These same players believe that they should be compensated for their play on the athletic field. Countless collegiate sports fans also believe that college athletes from around the country should be compensated for playing sports; however, paying college athletes would cause multiple problems in college athletics. Most people do not understand how much student athletes are given to them free of charge just to attend a university, while the majority of other average students are stuck with the burden of paying for their education. College athletes should not be paid since schools do not have the money to pay student athletes, it would not be fair for athletes who do not play football or basketball, and they have athletic scholarships that allow them to receive a free education. Various people around the country believe that since football and basketball are such large sports, that they bring in enough money to pay all athletes at that college. This is simply not the case. According to Jeffrey Dorfman, a professor of economics at the University of Georgia, only 23 out of 228 Division I athletic programs managed to run a surplus in 2012 (par. 7). • 10. The Four Steps Of The Two-Track Model Of Bereavement The Two Track Model of Bereavement is a model that states loss is conceptualized along two axes. Track I pertains to the biopsychosocial functioning in the event of a loss and Track II pertains to the bereaved s continued emotional attachment and relationship to whoever is deceased. The effect of Track I is seen through the bereaved s functioning, including their anxiety, their self esteem and self worth, and their depressive affect and cognitions. Noting the ability of one to invest in life tasks after experiencing a loss indicates how they are responding to the loss of the deceased. This Track is seen as an expression similar to one of trauma, or crisis. Track II holds that the bereaved has difficulty physically separating from the deceased. This can be seen in emotional, interpersonal, or cognitive ways. It is shown through imagery and memories that the bereaved experiences surrounding the deceased, whether positive or negative, as well as the emotional distance from them. These pictures in the bereaved s head explain both the cognitive and emotional view of the person who has died (Rubin, 1999). Four Steps of the Two Track Model of Bereavement For those experiencing loss, it is common they experience similar stages while loss is assimilated. After manoeuvres failed to lead to a second engagement, the combined armies of Sempronius Longus and Scipio met Hannibal on the left bank of the Trebia River south of Placentia and were soundly defeated (December 218). This victory brought both Gauls and Ligurians to Hannibal s side, and his army was considerably augmented by Celtic recruits. After a severe winter (in which he contracted an eye infection), he was able to advance in the spring of 217 as far as the Arno River (wsu.edu). Acute effects on the body system contain short term effects and they would occur straightway when performing exercise. Whereas, chronic effects on the body system contain long term effects and it is adaptable to the body system so new demands are encountered within the future. There are different systems that occur in our body: musculoskeletal system, energy system, respiratory system and cardiovascular system. Musculoskeletal system Firstly, the musculoskeletal system includes your muscles, tendons, ligaments, bones and cartilage. The nervous system is also at times used to control the musculoskeletal system; this would allow voluntary movement to take place. The impulses around the body help contract muscles; as a muscle contracts it would shorten and pull the attached bone to it. As well as this, the skeletal system maintains a structure and posture for the body and allows movement to take place, and so it produces heat by contracting muscles. Some of the acute changes that take place in the musculoskeletal system are: Increased blood supply having an increased blood supply would allow more oxygen to be taken in as the heart will quickly pump blood around the body. In order for the filmmakers to understand how each group worked on a very personal level, they had to immerse themselves in the scenes directly. Before beginning production, Peralta spent months hanging in these neighborhoods WITHOUT a camera, trying to establish relationships and gain peoples trust, as well as looking for interviewees. This effort is shown when Peralta can get some of these guys to open up and talk about things that they would not normally talk about. Patience and communication were absolutely critical in achieving that level of trust. He is not telling the stories from his perspective, because he did not experience it. Instead, he is giving a platform to these gang members and member of the community to share their opinions and beliefs. People also criticized the film because they think that it is an exaggeration of what was/is really going on in South Central LA. Another concern was that this film is one sided and depicts the police, institutions and organizations as the culprits for why our black communities have suffered thanks to gang violence. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... However, this is a logic logical fallacy that confuses our understanding in my opinion. First, there is a fundamental basic difference between the Japanese government and the ordinary citizens of Hiroshima. It is true to say that the emperor of Japan declared war and the Japanese troops invaded several countries, but should primary school children who had just began grasping the world be held accountable for their government s mistakes? How are the innocent schoolgirls, the uninvolved foreign priests and the Japanese antiwar fighters different from the Jews? Second, even if we consider the concept of total war, which sees seeks no difference between civilians and soldiers during war time, discrediting Japanese citizens through comparison with Jews remains problematic. (Heresy, 90) To illustrate, a drunk driver should be held accountable for killing no matter who his car hit whether if it an old man or a kidnapper. The meaning of the perpetrator s action does not change vary due to the victim s identity. Similarly, just because the Japanese started the war doesn t make the bombing of Hiroshima a virtuous action. Hence, the US government s constant unremitting emphasis on the difference between Jews and Japanese is not an act of promoting Jewish interest. It is a slow yet effective process that seeks to deceive the general population through distortion of our moral vision. As we constantly focus on the straight forward evils like the case of the Holocaust, we fail to recognise the more complicated version of evil which dominated the US foreign policy for the past 50 years. (Neiman, 23) Meanwhile the US interests are well served through promoting the picture of simple evil, the great lost lies in the ignorance of the general ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Write An Essay On White Tailed Deer 7. Van der Hoek D, Knapp AK, Briggs JM, and Bokdam J. 2002. White tailed deer browsing on six shrub species of tallgrass prairie Great Plains Res 1:141. White tailed deer have made a tremendous impact on native plant species and endangered ecosystems such as the tallgrass prairie. The purpose of this article is to show how increasing deer populations effect the native shrubs in the Great Plains. In this paper, researchers assessed six shrub species on deer activity in the summer time. Plant species and deer trail placement had strong effects on the amount of shrub cover and browse pattern. Researchers found that shrub cover was higher around deer trails than off or away from deer trails. The data suggests that the shrub species most likely impacted by white tailed deer browsing were woody plant species, or small trees and shrubs. The results suggest that even in summer when deer tend also to feed and browse in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It examines the how browsers can encourage positive conditions for temperate forest soils, such as providing extra nitrogen in the soils as a fertilizer. They found evidence that deer populations promote plant species biodiversity because it promotes invasive species that thrive off of degradation and habitat disturbance. Also, researchers found one cost about deer browsing was that even though it promotes plant biodiversity, it also decrease the amount of palatable, or edible, plant species. This is useful in my paper because it provides a different outlook of the effects of deer because most articles are negative towards deer browsing. The authors of this paper all work for the United States Department of Agriculture Forest Service as research ecologists, all have their doctorates in ecology and/or biology. This finding sharply contrasts with the negative impact that deer have when their populations kill and over browse, harming native plant ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 45. How Did Rasputin Contribute To Andreat Hemophilia Alexandra did little to dispel growing discontent for her husband. She ruled side by side with her extremely influential friend, Grigory Rasputin. Rasputin was the only person able to treat the hemophilia of her only son, Alexis, heir to the Russian throne. Rasputin s close relationship to the Empress allowed him to gain his own sense of power. He quickly began dismissing efficient ministers and appointing incompetent ministers solely on whether or not they supported him. Nicholas began to be seen as a man who willingly let his incompetent wife run the government, while he attempted to regain his pride on the western front. Conservatives began to plot against Nicholas in order to save their monarchy. World War One saw the end of sovereigns in a sense. Sovereigns of the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... With the direction the war was headed, revolution was inevitable. The Russian economy had virtually collapsed and the world learned that Russia was no longer a military rival against anyone. In Saint Petersburg in 1917, mass demonstrations resulted in armed clashes with police before the police slowly abandoned Nicholas. In the last few days before the Russian monarch fell, the last of the royal forces, including politicians and generals, sided with the revolutionaries. Nicholas now had no support from anyone outside of the royal family. When Parliament called for his abdication, he had no choice but to agree and relinquish his power. He agreed to abdicate in favor of his brother, who within hours abdicated himself. Within one week, Russia had fallen. After 304 years of rule, the Romanov dynasty ended. The Tsar was replaced by a Russian Provisional government. When the Provisional Government first took control, there was an alliance between the liberals and the socialists who wanted political reform. For the first time, the people were in power. This meant that the workers, the sailors, the soldiers, the farmers, the middle ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 46. Space Race Essay We have always dreamed about reaching the heavens. From ancient civilizations to the modern day world, our obsession of going into space has grown from studying the stars to actual exploration of space. We have come a long way since primitive charts of constellations. From telescopes to satellites, we as a population have progressed greatly in the world of technology. In a mere forty years, we have had more technological advances than the Industrial Revolution. The Space Race has affected our everyday lives; we use the same technology that the astronauts used during their missions for example digital clocks (Dismukes http://spaceflight.nasa.gov). Many industries have benefited, communication companies, industrial manufacturers, and the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the Germans were advancing in their knowledge, technology, and expertise in the field of rocketry, the purpose of rockets had shifted from military to a civilian project. The government had deemed the project unacceptable, and terminated it. When the Germans showed the world that reaching the stars was not a far fetched idea, it was possible to do an unbelievable feat of science and engineering. Although the German rocket project was terminated, they had started the basis of modern day rocketry. The dream was growing to enormous proportions. Various nations were interested in this technology, especially the U.S.S.R. and later the United States of America (Snedden 9). At Approximately the same time the government terminated the rocket project World War II was coming to an end. The Soviets had captured Germany; and seized the technology, physicists, and engineers, who had been working on the rocket project and later forced to work for the Russians (Neal 39). With the material seized during World War II, the U.S.S.R. established a space program. Twelve years later Russia launched the first successful satellite, Sputnik 1. Sputnik consisted of a sphere the size of a basket, with four antennae transmitting various amounts of information. As news of Sputnik spread throughout the world, it shocked and astounded the ... I have collaborated with nursing and healthcare leadership professionals on a project to improve communication and health outcomes for a specific population. As our group has formed and developed during this quarter, I have identified strengths and weaknesses in my ability to work within a group. The four stages of a group, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006) will be discussed as they pertained to my perception of the group process and outcomes this quarter. My communication strengths, weaknesses, and my adoption of the informal roles outlined by Connery and Vohs (2006) with regard to group work will be analyzed as well as my plan for utilizing my strengths and addressing my weaknesses for future interactions and group work. Group Phases During our Forming phase, as described by Connery and Vohs (2006), we spent a little time getting to know each other, but we stuck to the basics like names, work schedules and phone numbers. After these initial introductions, we assigned the roles of coordinator and recorder and discussed some group norms that we wanted to adopt for the quarter. We then started discussing the focus of our group work and trying to devise a plan for how we will move through the quarter. I think it is a normal reaction whenever anyone is meeting or working with someone for the first time to tend to be more reserved and try and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
