Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) is an ancient disease caused primarily by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, with evidence of its presence dating back to Neolithic times. It remains a leading cause of death globally, with an estimated 1.86 billion people currently infected, and approximately 2 million deaths annually due to TB. The spread of TB occurs mainly through respiratory droplets, and its transmission is exacerbated by factors such as overcrowding and poor hygiene.
