Tuberculosis (TB) has been known for over 18,000 years and was described by ancient Greek physicians like Hippocrates. It has been known by many names including phthisis, consumption, and Koch's disease. Important scientists like Ibn Sina, Richard Morton, and Robert Koch discovered that TB is communicable, associated with pulmonary tubercles, and caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis, respectively. According to the WHO, one third of the world's population is exposed to TB risk and there are over 2 million TB deaths annually, making it one of the top infectious killers worldwide.
