LIVE BRIEF EVALUATION
POST-PRODUCTION
PRODUCTION LOG
Include screenshots of your editing process
Discuss your file management (collating, naming, and logging). Discuss
your workflow. Annotate.
As you can see from this screenshot I have downloaded all of my clips on to the
edit and placed them in the file management. I have started editing by adding in
the first clip we shot. I have selected what part of the clip in the video by using
the mark tools which let you choose the portions of the recorded shot you want to
use. The shot originally lasted around 13 seconds but I have selected 5 seconds
of the clip in the final product. Before adding the recorded footage I took the
footage from the memory stick and saved it on a separate folder on my desktop
called Everyman footage (everyman is the name of the cinema)

PRODUCTION LOG
As I am editing the footage I have extended the length of the video
player pressing plus and minus and thus extending the timeline. The
reason I have don this is so I can add in cross dissolves more easier in
moments of the video that feel appropriate other wise if the video
player was smaller I wouldn’t have been able include edits like the
cross fade properly but by expanding the timeline I can do it in proper
detail without making a mistake. It also allows me to make some minor
tweaks in editing without running the editing process. I have also
added in some royalty free music to play in the background of the
video. The internet provides multiple websites featuring royalty free
music available to use in your project. I have downloaded the project
and saved it on to my desktop and moved it into my project manager
along with the other videos.

PRODUCTION LOG
For the final few seconds of the video I have used a dip to black for the last 3 seconds
so that the video will fade to black and for the music I have had the music fade out the
Same time as the video fades to black. This is so that the video doesn't feel so abrupt
When it ends. The fade to blacks and the music getting quitter guides the viewer to the
ending instead of it just stopping. I have also added in some cross fades throughout the
whole video to make the cuts feel smooth and not jarring and distracting. Cross fades
are also a convention when it comes to promotional videos so it only makes sense to
apply that to my video.

PRODUCTION LOG
I am now at the final stage of my production and I am now ready to export the
video. Before doing so I need to make sure the actual exported video isn’t longer
the footage. Otherwise your video will play longer even after the recorded and
edited footage has stopped playing and the remaining minutes will play in
blackness. You can fix this issue by using your curser to move the duration line to
the point where the video ends. This may not seam important but it’s a small
detail that a lot of people miss when they ever finish on a project. That’s why I
made sure to do that before I export the video. It may also extended the length of
the video being exported.
Duration line.
REVIEW AND
DELIVERY
PEER/TUTOR FEEDBACK
Discuss any feedback received here.
What amendments or changes have you made? How has this benefitted the
end result?
The only changes I have had to have make for the final product is for the
ending transition. Originally I was going to have the shiny glow be a
transition to the shot of the everyman logo outside of the building. Instead I
have the shiny glow of the door opening outside be a transition to a white
screen with the everyman logo along with the phone number of the building
and the post code. The reasons for this is because that type of graphic is
considered to be a convention when it comes to promotional videos so I
thought it adding that would make the video more professional. Unlike the
original ending shot the camera is titled and shaky and doesn't look very
professional. There was also an issue with oversaturation with the shot
when trying to give the building a heavenly feeling. I feel going that route
was a better option in making the video look competent.
CLIENT FEEDBACK
Insert screenshots and discuss any feedback received here.
Was the client happy with the final product? Any changes required?
So far I haven’t received any feedback from my peers and tutors but the
general reactions from people in my family and people I know outside of
college is pretty positive and I haven’t received any feedback, including from
my client. Even he was happy with the final product and the overall process
of the shoot..
EVALUATION
MANAGEMENT
Critically evaluate your work in reference to professional
practice.
Discuss time management, leadership skills, communications, meetings,
achieving agreed outcomes, working to agreed timescales,
recommendations for future tasks
Because I had only one crew member working with me to help me finish to
project and have it look as professional as possible, communication and
time management was pretty easy because I had only one person to work
with instead of 10 other people. If that where the case then the pre
production would have taken a lot longer. I could meet up with my crew
member anytime when I wanted to discuss the shoot and how we would do
things, he would always show up on time and thus he was very reliable
throughout and he would always be willing to meet a specific deadline I
would be happy with. There was no sense leadership throughout because
we worked as a team and we had our own ideas on how we would shoot
things and we both tried them so I could decide what would work best in the
edit. My recommendation for the future is work closely with crew members
like they are your mates so that you can be on the same page. That way it
creates a positive and hard working environment.
CONSTRAINTS
Critically evaluate any constraints
It could be legal, regulatory, or financial. It could be resources (time, budget,
personnel)
There where no legal issues in getting shoot in the venue. Me and my client
had a friendly conversation about the date and schedule of the shoot and we
came to a agreement very easy. My schedule was perfect for my shoot
because it gave us enough time and freedom to try what we could do with
the camera without rushing the project to meet the deadline. I think overall
the production ran smoothly. Even if we where limited to a camera and
tripod I think we made the best possible video possible with what we had at
our disposal. My personal consisted of one crew member who is
experienced in camera work and cinematography and while working with
him allowed us to experiment with the placement of the camera and the
blocking of shots, we where still limited to just the two of us making this
video so moving the camera from one place to another.
FINAL PRODUCT
Critically evaluate the final piece.
Has it been produced to professional standard (technical and aesthetic standards),
fitness for purpose? Realisation against proposal. Ensure to compare against other
products.
In comparison to the pre existing promotional videos mine is lesser well made then
others simply due to the lack of budget and only working with limited recourses. You
will have shots that are shaky and are not very smooth, but in comparison to the pre
existing promotional video, the shots are smooth and calm without any hint of a shake
and when ever there is a shake its intentional because the camera is handheld. This is
something that I could have improved upon by maybe fixing the tripod or bringing my
own without booking one from the college. Bringing back to my point about the lack of
proper budget or production value, the coffee ad uses drone shots whereas mine does
not. While theses shots are well done I feel those don’t highlight the important aspects
of the video which is the coffee shop but they focus more on shots of the church along
with other shots what feel like padding, whereas mine is focusing entirely on the venue
and nothing else, making the video very short, sweet and simple whereas the coffee
shop drags on for too long. One thing that both videos do stylistically that are similar to
one and other is that we both have shots of the place we are promoting intercut with
voiceover from the client who owns the business expressing why their business is
worth visiting and investing money into. Another comparison is that the Coffee is more
visually appealing then my video, simply because of the oversaturation of the colour
correction in the edit and the fact that in the coffee video they utilize the sun to give out
a look that’s heavenly and beautiful. I could have worked more in-depth by asking help
from the tutors to make the look more professional.

[Pro forma] corporate - live project evaluation2

  • 1. ROBERT-RYAN UNIT 28:CORPORATE AND PROMOTIONAL PROGRAMME PRODUCTION LIVE BRIEF EVALUATION
  • 3. PRODUCTION LOG Include screenshots of your editing process Discuss your file management (collating, naming, and logging). Discuss your workflow. Annotate. As you can see from this screenshot I have downloaded all of my clips on to the edit and placed them in the file management. I have started editing by adding in the first clip we shot. I have selected what part of the clip in the video by using the mark tools which let you choose the portions of the recorded shot you want to use. The shot originally lasted around 13 seconds but I have selected 5 seconds of the clip in the final product. Before adding the recorded footage I took the footage from the memory stick and saved it on a separate folder on my desktop called Everyman footage (everyman is the name of the cinema) Project Manager Recorded Footage folder
  • 4. PRODUCTION LOG As I am editing the footage I have extended the length of the video player pressing plus and minus and thus extending the timeline. The reason I have don this is so I can add in cross dissolves more easier in moments of the video that feel appropriate other wise if the video player was smaller I wouldn’t have been able include edits like the cross fade properly but by expanding the timeline I can do it in proper detail without making a mistake. It also allows me to make some minor tweaks in editing without running the editing process. I have also added in some royalty free music to play in the background of the video. The internet provides multiple websites featuring royalty free music available to use in your project. I have downloaded the project and saved it on to my desktop and moved it into my project manager along with the other videos. Music track
  • 5. PRODUCTION LOG For the final few seconds of the video I have used a dip to black for the last 3 seconds so that the video will fade to black and for the music I have had the music fade out the Same time as the video fades to black. This is so that the video doesn't feel so abrupt When it ends. The fade to blacks and the music getting quitter guides the viewer to the ending instead of it just stopping. I have also added in some cross fades throughout the whole video to make the cuts feel smooth and not jarring and distracting. Cross fades are also a convention when it comes to promotional videos so it only makes sense to apply that to my video. Constant Power Fades Cross fades
  • 6. PRODUCTION LOG I am now at the final stage of my production and I am now ready to export the video. Before doing so I need to make sure the actual exported video isn’t longer the footage. Otherwise your video will play longer even after the recorded and edited footage has stopped playing and the remaining minutes will play in blackness. You can fix this issue by using your curser to move the duration line to the point where the video ends. This may not seam important but it’s a small detail that a lot of people miss when they ever finish on a project. That’s why I made sure to do that before I export the video. It may also extended the length of the video being exported. Duration line.
  • 8. PEER/TUTOR FEEDBACK Discuss any feedback received here. What amendments or changes have you made? How has this benefitted the end result? The only changes I have had to have make for the final product is for the ending transition. Originally I was going to have the shiny glow be a transition to the shot of the everyman logo outside of the building. Instead I have the shiny glow of the door opening outside be a transition to a white screen with the everyman logo along with the phone number of the building and the post code. The reasons for this is because that type of graphic is considered to be a convention when it comes to promotional videos so I thought it adding that would make the video more professional. Unlike the original ending shot the camera is titled and shaky and doesn't look very professional. There was also an issue with oversaturation with the shot when trying to give the building a heavenly feeling. I feel going that route was a better option in making the video look competent.
  • 9. CLIENT FEEDBACK Insert screenshots and discuss any feedback received here. Was the client happy with the final product? Any changes required? So far I haven’t received any feedback from my peers and tutors but the general reactions from people in my family and people I know outside of college is pretty positive and I haven’t received any feedback, including from my client. Even he was happy with the final product and the overall process of the shoot..
  • 11. MANAGEMENT Critically evaluate your work in reference to professional practice. Discuss time management, leadership skills, communications, meetings, achieving agreed outcomes, working to agreed timescales, recommendations for future tasks Because I had only one crew member working with me to help me finish to project and have it look as professional as possible, communication and time management was pretty easy because I had only one person to work with instead of 10 other people. If that where the case then the pre production would have taken a lot longer. I could meet up with my crew member anytime when I wanted to discuss the shoot and how we would do things, he would always show up on time and thus he was very reliable throughout and he would always be willing to meet a specific deadline I would be happy with. There was no sense leadership throughout because we worked as a team and we had our own ideas on how we would shoot things and we both tried them so I could decide what would work best in the edit. My recommendation for the future is work closely with crew members like they are your mates so that you can be on the same page. That way it creates a positive and hard working environment.
  • 12. CONSTRAINTS Critically evaluate any constraints It could be legal, regulatory, or financial. It could be resources (time, budget, personnel) There where no legal issues in getting shoot in the venue. Me and my client had a friendly conversation about the date and schedule of the shoot and we came to a agreement very easy. My schedule was perfect for my shoot because it gave us enough time and freedom to try what we could do with the camera without rushing the project to meet the deadline. I think overall the production ran smoothly. Even if we where limited to a camera and tripod I think we made the best possible video possible with what we had at our disposal. My personal consisted of one crew member who is experienced in camera work and cinematography and while working with him allowed us to experiment with the placement of the camera and the blocking of shots, we where still limited to just the two of us making this video so moving the camera from one place to another.
  • 13. FINAL PRODUCT Critically evaluate the final piece. Has it been produced to professional standard (technical and aesthetic standards), fitness for purpose? Realisation against proposal. Ensure to compare against other products. In comparison to the pre existing promotional videos mine is lesser well made then others simply due to the lack of budget and only working with limited recourses. You will have shots that are shaky and are not very smooth, but in comparison to the pre existing promotional video, the shots are smooth and calm without any hint of a shake and when ever there is a shake its intentional because the camera is handheld. This is something that I could have improved upon by maybe fixing the tripod or bringing my own without booking one from the college. Bringing back to my point about the lack of proper budget or production value, the coffee ad uses drone shots whereas mine does not. While theses shots are well done I feel those don’t highlight the important aspects of the video which is the coffee shop but they focus more on shots of the church along with other shots what feel like padding, whereas mine is focusing entirely on the venue and nothing else, making the video very short, sweet and simple whereas the coffee shop drags on for too long. One thing that both videos do stylistically that are similar to one and other is that we both have shots of the place we are promoting intercut with voiceover from the client who owns the business expressing why their business is worth visiting and investing money into. Another comparison is that the Coffee is more visually appealing then my video, simply because of the oversaturation of the colour correction in the edit and the fact that in the coffee video they utilize the sun to give out a look that’s heavenly and beautiful. I could have worked more in-depth by asking help from the tutors to make the look more professional.
