3. RESEARCH
The majority of my research work was through watching music videos of son
Genre as the once I chose. Luckily, most themes in other videos remain nearl
Resulting in it being very easy to get an idea of what I wanted to do.
The main focus of my research was looking at the type of shots that were us

elevation which allowed
the video to feel more
jumpy and skippy
4. RESEARCH
In most other music videos, they have a very high
production value meaning that lots of money has been
spent on equipment such as props, editing, location e.t.c
Given the fact that I don’t have the money or overall
editing ability to compete with such high quality videos, it
resulted in mine looking significantly lower in quality. For
example, when filming in the dark, most high production
videos would have had light bars or something to create
mood lighting. Me on the other hand, only had the torch
on my phone which lead to my overall video quality to be
lower.
The way I could have changed the outcome would be to
invest money into this specific equipment to make it
higher quality and/or loan in from college or other
sources.
5. RESEARCH (WEAKNESSES)
The other half of my research was dedicated to taking notes
surrounding the videos I watched. This was probably the weakest
area due to the detail of the notes. This was a downside because it
meant I had more to do during the planning phase rather than
making the most of my time during the research period. The way I
could have improved would be being more efficient and manage my
time more during the time given. On the hand, the research I did was
all used while filming. Implementing the skills into the video was
difficult but overall it did make a significant difference.
6. PLANNING
Planning was probably one of my stronger points in terms of time
management and my general idea seemed very clear at first. With
good use of planning and time management id been able to
complete my filming by the first weekend of it being set leaving
more time to refine and focus on my editing. The most awkward
thing about the filming of the video would have been the clocks
going back leaving darkness by the time I came back from
college. With use of the free days on Thursday and Friday I
managed to get the shots I needed in the light and left the
necessary darker shots after I came back leaving optimal time for
editing. I also believe that the overall aesthetic of my video in
terms of dress and overall pace suits the speed of the video
meaning that the overall watching experience is pleasant.
7. PLANNING
The biggest weakness I had with my planning would be
the editing. My initial idea seemed very clear in my mind
but having to learn and understand premier pro in what
felt like such a short time. Further into the planning I
kept changing my ideas while story boarding which while
the shooting went well, it was very unclear what I actually
wanted from my video. One of the biggest things I wish I
could have improved on would have been managing my
editing time and learning the software more in my spare
time. Working on the video and watching tutorials on
how to do things was time consuming and less efficient
as it could have been. Availability of necessary people
and equipment was also something to consider as
personal work and other people being at work was
difficult to balance.
8. TIME MANAGEMENT
My project was completed and handed in on time.
My projects probably could have done with a little more
time to properly refine the finer details. To spend a little
more time on things like transitions would benefit my
video and even make it more realistic to my original plan.
9. TECHNICAL QUALITIES -
CAMERA
While using the camera, I opted to go
for a more handheld approach making
the video feel more organic. This also
allows for more camera movement
giving more energy which makes for a
more exiting video. I found the majority
of the shots focused and lit fairly well
apart from a shot on the stairs
The main improvement I would change
would be add more camera movement
to give even more energy.
10. TECHNICAL QUALITIES –
EDITING/POST
My biggest editing qualities would
have came from my use of
transitions and screen pulses.
Using a “dip to white” transition it
made the transform from one shot
to another cleaner while still
holding the right amount of
energy and not being in your face.
The screen pulses make use of the
key framing function which
allowed me to make quick zooms
in and out of shot and also made
the camera rotating drone shot at
the start of the video. These
combined with the near perfect
syncing of the video and dips into
certain black and white shots
Flash transition
11. AESTHETIC QUALITIES
I personally think my
work looks good but
could have done with a
bit more creativity in the
types of shots and
camera movements. My
favourite visual is the
light colours contrasting
with the wall and dark
sky.
I like this shot due to
its simplicity but could
be improved by
smoother camera work
and show more of the
whole body. The
background looks
good and the clarity of
shot is near perfect.
Similar to the first
shot, the colours and
clarity make the
sharpness look really
good despite the
darkness.
The one thing I would
change would be
taking this shot in the
day so it makes it
easier to edit/add
effects to
