Contextual Theory Of Interethnic Communication Theory
The distinction of the differences or similarities between the communicator and conversational
partners can influence whether they chose to engage in association or dissociation. These
dissimilarities and resemblances help to shape our perceptions of each other. Through the analysis of
ethnic proximity, ethnic distance, shared goal structure, separate goal structure, and personal network
integration, the situation layer of Kim s Interethnic Theory will be explored.
A Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication As conceptualized by Young Yun Kim, the
interethnic communication theory describes the multifaceted layers and factors in communication
event. Described as an open system, interethnic communication occurs between communicators and
their interactant(s) who possess characteristic similarities or differences in terms of their ethnic or
identity markers (Kim, 2005). There are four layers to her theory: behavior, communicator, situation,
and environment. All of these layers contribute to how the communicator and their interactant decides
to interact, whether it is associative or dissociative. This paper will focus on the situation layer.
Implanted between the environment and communicator layer, the situation layer represents the
interethnic encounter itself (Kim, 2005, p. 334). Essentially, it is describing the interaction between
the communicator and their conversational partner(s). In this context, the communication can take
form in many ways (e.g., verbal,

Ethos In Aviation
The life of aviation is an admiration for whoever looks up to the clouds, stars, and the sky. Aviation is
a dream that many people seek. I have always looked up to my father as a model and a reason to think
about the life above the clouds. As I laid eyes on him wearing his flying suit, it opened my eyes to the
aviation life, and an inspiration to enter the world of aviation. The transition of me entering this life
was a video that ERAU broadcasted. This ad shows the quality of tools and level of education students
will get, which type of college life students are going to have, and what kind of feelings students will
obtain. However, this video is not doing a great job by using the appeal of logos, ethos, and pathos.

This student is about to graduate and become a pilot, her dream came true. Another student shared her

herself that s all what she wanted (0:27). That happiness and that emotion she felt made her realize
that she wants to do this as a career, being on top of everything. The last student said that he can t
describe his feeling by words. He just enjoys it and called it it s fun (0:30). Sadly, other students did
not share their feelings like the others, because the video did not mention their major. Additionally,
even some audience who are not interested in being pilots won t be entertained and motivated by
watching the video. Lastly, the video wasn t equitable to those who are interested in other majors
instead of pilots who took their time by sharing their feelings. In conclusion, college of aviation in

The Challenges of Donation Management Essay
As human beings, most of us have a natural instinct to take care of each other in a time of need. When
someone falls, you stop and help them up. So when a disaster happens, people want to help and make
everything alright. Those near and far to the disaster may show up and volunteer. Others want to help
by supplying material needs to the victims of the hazard. They began making donations in the forms
of food, water, clothing, medicines or other needed supplies called in kind donations or some
donations are in the form of cash. The outpouring of giving can be overwhelming in a positive and
negative way. Along with the hazard and its effects, someone has to manage the vast amount of
donations by organizing and distributing to the needy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The donated supplies need storing until distribution and when there is a large supply of donations,
storage can become an issue. Buildings or warehouses may have to be rented to house the donations.
Sometimes there are too many donations or too many of one particular item. Many times there are not
enough donated items to meet needs. Other challenges include items not being suitable donations for a
particular disaster area, for example coats in warm climates or damaged, expired or unlabeled
medications. Distribution of the items also is a challenge. Sometimes getting the much needed
supplies out to the vulnerable victims is difficult. All of these challenges mean extra work and can be
very overwhelming for volunteers and emergency workers. (McEntire, 188 189) In an article by Dave
Roos, he lists ten items that should not be donated for various reasons. These items are used clothing,
blankets, teddy bears, shoes, medicines, pet supplies, boxes of mixed items, canned food and bottled
water, unsolicited help, and your money to an unknown organization. When these items are donated,
hardships can be presented. The material items have to be handled and inspected by trained volunteers
which can become overwhelming. Some donated items are things not suitable for donating such as
stained clothing or torn and dirty toys. These items have to be thrown away which adds to the
workload of

Isolation In The Painted Door And The Black Cat
Gothic Fiction: Universal Isolation
Isolation has a profound effect on the human psyche, it can motivate a man or drive him mad. Within
The Painted Door and The Black Cat, isolation and its effects are present and those effects impact the
characters actions. The Black Cat and The Painted Door are comparable in their showcase of
humanities perverse capabilities, by using the gothic elements these capabilities are shown to lead to
their downfall.
For gothic fiction, gloom and horror are often personified through secondary outlets. In the case of
The Painted Door, the gloom and isolation that John feels because of his wife s infidelity is
personified through the white painted door, it is stated on the palm, white even against its frozen
whiteness was a little smear of paint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
John s wife imagines John walking in after she had slept with Steven, this paranoia stems from her
knowing that she had betrayed the only person she knew and trusted. This vision sets up the climax,
but it also reflects on her lack of certainty about the situation and this leads to her blaming herself for
John s death and ultimately her being left in isolation. In The Black Cat however, the narrator holds an
absolute certainty in the success of his plan to hide his wife s body, and ultimately his overconfidence
is the root of his demise. While the narrators demise can be attributed to the cat as seen with I was
answered by a voice from within the tomb! ... a cry the blame also falls on him for disrupting the cat
and thus breaking his isolation driven confidence. Both Edgar Alan Poe and Sinclair Ross utilize the
elements of gothic fiction to set their characters upon the path towards their demise, however whereas
Edgar focuses more on the malice of man and the self made destruction that follows, Sinclair instead
focuses on the innocence of little decisions that leads to

Reaction About Mulaa
Mulan
Mulan is based on the Chinese legend of Hua Mulan. It s about a girl named Mulan(Ming Na Wen)
who is fearful that her ailing father will be drafted into the Chinese military, she takes his spot though,
as a girl living under a patriarchal government, she is technically unqualified to serve. She cleverly
imitates a man and goes off to train with fellow recruits. Accompanied by her dragon, Mush, she uses
her smarts to help region off a Hun invasion, falling in love with a dashing captain along the way.
Molly should watch this movie because it gives a message of being different. And being fearless helps
overcome the fear. She needs to overcome her struggle with developing the relationship with her
foster parents.

Bonding Chemical Properties
The overall purpose of this lab was to see how bonding effects chemical and physical properties. The
lab consisted of 6 compounds Dodecanoic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Duodecose, Octadecanoic Acid,
Potassium Bromide and Amylose. Using these compounds, tests were conducted on their appearance,
solubility in distilled water, conductivity and melting point. There are 3 groups these compounds can
be organized into. One group is Dodecanoic Acid and Stearic Acid. Another group is Duodecose and
Amylose and the last group is Sodium Chloride and Potassium Bromide. These compounds are put
into these groups because of their similar structures and properties. Dodecanoic Acid and
Octadecanoic Acid are in the same group because they are both made up long chains of carbon and
carboxyl groups, and are non polar covalent bonds. In non polar covalent bonds electrons are shared
equally, and held together by atoms. Both Dodecanoic Acid and Octadecanoic are made up of carbon,
hydrogen and oxygen. The data shows they are insoluble, this is because of their long chains of
carbon, and a carboxyl group (COOH) at the end causes them to have increasing hydrophobic which
decreases their solubility in water. The data also shows they are poor electrical ... Show more content

Amylose are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. Both of the compounds have a high number of
hydroxyl groups, which help them bond with hydrogen atoms in water thus making them soluble
which is supported by the data. Duodecose and Amylose are both bad conductors because of their
polar covalent bond. Since covalent bonds do not contain ions, they don t carry any charge therefore
making Duodecose and Amylose low conductors. Duodecose and Amylose are in the same group

Year Of No Rain Quotes
In the book Year of No Rain by Alice Mead, Stephen and Wol have different points of view on how
they feel about their education. On Page 50 Wol states, I don t know, maybe we should go to Kenya.
Where is Kenya? You tell us Stephen. You got a hundred in geography. From this quote I am inferring
that Wol is not very confident in himself and his education. But, on page 41 Stephen says Wait a
minute. I want to take my pencil with me. Where did it go? Naiomi help me look. Please? In this quote
I am visualizing Stephen being frantic and speaking in a panicking tone. I can grab from this quote
that Stephen, unlike Wol, is passionate and feels confident in his future because of the education he
currently has. In the midway chapters of the book A Year of no Rain by Alice Mead, Wol changes the
way he feel s towards Naomi. On page 19 he said, Stephen, do you think Naiomi likes me? This
clearly makes Wol sound like he is in love with her. Then, when Naomi goes missing he is more
focused on whether or not she is alive. On page 47 and 48 there is an argument between Wolf and
stephen. Wol said, Your mother should have let naiomi come with us. They kidnap girls, I heard. Now,
he is more grown up. The event of death, stabbing, and torture are now in play and he has realized his

Hotel California Poem Analysis
Music as Poetry Essay
The song, Hotel California , by the Eagles, is a very poetic song that uses imagery, and symbolism to
bring out the theme in an indirect way of the speaker s personal issues of life. The Eagles use imagery
to set the mood and tone of the song. Along with many aspects of symbolism to input a lot of double
meaning throughout the whole song. With both imagery and symbolism incorporated, many fans or
people who have heard of this song would believe that the theme of this song is about a lonely traveler
trying to break his own temptations.
In the first verse of the introduction of the song, imagery is used for the audience to imagine what
exactly is being told. As almost as if it was a setting in a play or a scene in a movie. In the first verse
the first two set of lines says, On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas,
rising up through the air. (Eagles, Lines 1 2). One can already imagine the speaker driving down a
dark desert highway, with his windows rolled down perhaps, and smelling the warm air full of desert
flowers, or maybe he is smelling marijuana in the air. This could be because colitas is Spanish slang
for a bud of cannabis, but it could also mean desert flowers, (Philpot). These first two lines already
sets the mood of a restless traveler who needs a place to stay for the night after a long day of driving.
It also hints that there could possibly be drugs or other temptations in this song considering colitas

Essay on Ford Competition
In a present day of global warming, environmental issues, labor unions, and other impacts, the
automobile industry is in an era of instability and change. Ford Motor Company has been traditionally
considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry, but they are not adapting as well as hoped to the
changing industry, and will have to strategize to survive in a struggling industry. There are many
different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we will look at two competitors for
Ford that are also considered to be members of the Big Three and coincidently, are not adapting to
changes in the auto industry as quickly as other competitors. These other companies are General
Motors (GM) and Daimler Chrysler. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Ford feels that although steps have been taken to lower their health care expenses, the cost to the
company will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Foreign car manufacturers have on average
lower health care and employee costs, giving them an advantage over Ford, GM, and Daimler
Chrysler. Ford Motor Co is hoping to take steps to offset the costs of employee benefits; however, this
could also lead to negative publicity for the company. Foreign auto makers are able to maintain lower
costs with non unionized and on average, younger employees. The next risk factor for the auto
industry is commodity and energy price increases. Steel and resin (plastic) are the two most used
commodities for auto manufacturers, and they are products in high demand for many industries.
Rising awareness of sustainability and rising demand for these products has lead to recent price
increases, and it is estimated to continue this trend. This factor targets all of the auto industry, but
again hits the big three and other auto manufacturers harder then it does some of the foreign car
manufacturers. Japanese auto makers have long been seen as efficient smaller car manufacturers,
where the big three have moved to the larger SUV type vehicle. By building smaller vehicles,
Japanese auto makers reduce their dependency and therefore their costs on steel and resin. The second
risk coming from the comparative sizes of vehicles being manufactured by the auto makers is the cost

Spiritual Reflection
I have been into the practicum for over a month now. It is beneficial for me to reflect on my learning
and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching, triads, meeting with
directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last few weeks provide me
with a solid idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the spiritual direction session,
the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the directee and God. The Holy Spirit
has already been working in the life of directee before the session and will continue to be at work after
the session is over. The emphasis of spiritual direction will be to enhance the relationship between the
directee and God. In a spiritual direction session, typical questions asked are Where is God in this? or
Where has God gone and why don t I sense any divine presence at all? I learn to know that spiritual
direction arises out of inviting and listening to God. One thing I am in tension with myself and need to
be reminded constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to resolve the issue
mentioned in the session. The focus of the session should be about what goes on between the directee
and God. The triad experiences help me to put my learning into practice and they build my confidence
in carrying out sessions. Those questions raised in the triads on reflecting the experience of spiritual
direction help me to be aware of my

The Characters of I M Not Scared Essay
Michele Amitrano Michele s compassion is his most prominent characteristic that makes him
appealing to the reader. Throughout the novel, he exhibits empathy well beyond his years, often
making readers forget that he is just nine. This can be seen clearly in three main instances. First, when
he goes after his sister when she has fallen over (pg. 4) despite his own fears. Secondly, offering to
complete the forfeit in place of Barbra when Skull forces her to complete an embarrassing forfeit.
Finally, and most evidently, when he takes care of Filippo. This makes for a positive contrast with the
rest of Acqua Traverse who seem to lack any compassion. When describing places and characters he
reveals his unique way of viewing things that ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

upbringings are contrasting. Filippo is obviously from a rich background. He speaks of his electric
train set (pg. 86). His mother, after appealing to his kidnappers on TV, appears to be in ‘a big leather

The Crock, is old and previously belonged to Pino (pg. 6), and he longs for a new one, however
understands his family cannot afford it. He shares a corridor turned room with his sister and his house

personal attributes, like honesty. Their actions and thoughts also depict a very same innocence, and
childlike imagination. Felice Natale Felice boasted that he would kill Filippo so he could gain power

Crime Scene Searches
The Legal Challenges to Crime Scene Searches The examination of the crime scene is the most vital
phase conducted at the scene of a crime. Investigation of crime scene is more than just showing up,
taking a few photos, and calling it a day; there is more to it that. There are some legal challenges to
crime scene investigation that unfortunately as vital as this portion is can get screwed up sometimes,
sometimes even intentionally. Throughout an investigation mistakes, ethics, and biases play a vital
role. When mistakes or bad ethnical decisions occur and individuals either gets off on a technicality or
possibly are falsely accused through bad evidence; these types of blunders expose why it is critical
that a crime scene is processed properly.

Analysis Of William Mortimer J. Adler s Article Analysis
In Mortimer J. Adler s article How to Mark a Book, he argues that you should mark up your book to
note significant information. Adler argues, through rhetorical appeals and fallacies, that as you write in
a book it becomes absorbed in your bloodstream, and allows you to fully own the book. As readers
searching for these techniques we can become immune to the fallacies by recognizing them and
thereby acknowledging the argument for what it truly is. How to Mark A Book, uses an abundance of
logos in addition to other convincing techniques to persuade you, the reader, to mark up your book.
First, for any analysis of an argument, we must find who is claiming what (Lunsford, Ruszkiewicz and
Walter 94). In this article, that person is Mortimer Jerome Adler; an American philosopher, educator
and writer. His publisher, The Saturday Review of Literature, commonly publish pieces similar to
How to Mark a Book including: A.L Rowse: A Study in Versatility, The A.L.A(American Library
Association) Convention and Education of a Commentator.
Based on the title of the publisher and their various publications, we can assume that the broad
audience of the article are people with an interest in literature itself. However, due to the vast amount
of detail and description in the article, we can quite safely derive that the narrow audience are people
directly involved in education. While the article seems promising to high school and college students,

Central Interpersonal Problem Of Jen Essay
What is the central interpersonal problem for Jen in regards to the focus of treatment? (Review page
1136 of your article.) The central interpersonal problem that Jen is experiencing could be related to
role transitions. Jen is attempting to juggle being a student, a sorority girl and the good child for her
parents, which may have resulted in her recent binge eating. However, I believe that Jen may also be
experiencing interpersonal deficits. Jen s problems could possibly stem from her childhood. Since, her
older brother was the family s problem child , Jen felt the need to be the good child and pressured
herself to be well behaved and maintain good grades. What are some areas of strengths for Jen? Some
areas of strength for Jen include her ability to work hard and her determination. Jen s history of
making good grades and her behavior is evidence that she is determined to achieve her goals. This
may be two positive attributes that will be of assistance during her therapy. Self awareness is also
another strength that Jen possess. Her ability to know that the binge eating and self induced vomiting
and laxative use was not a smart decision says a great deal about Jen. She was also aware of her self
image. Jen s participation in therapy is also strength. Jen s ability to reach out for help shows
enormous strength, as well as Jen s desires to reduce the interpersonal stress she is experiencing.

Summary Of The Bhagavad Gita
The Bhagavad Gita, which means the song of the lord, is a part of the Mahabharata. It is a story about
the discourse between Arjuna, a prince, and Lord Krishna, who is an incarnation of the highest of all
divinity, creator of the entire universe. In the book, Arjuna is confused about his duty, dharma, to the
law of an elite warrior and kinship. It is Krishna who helps guide and encourage Arjuna to follow his
true path, svadharma. The book discusses three broad ways to live: devotion to god (bhakti), karma,
and jnana yoga which is practice and discipline. The Bhagavad Gita adapts and reformulates many
ideas of soul, karma, and ritual from Vedic sacrifice, the Upanishads, and Buddhism. These three
concepts are the major themes and are all interrelated with one another.
The Bhagavad Gita adopts and adapts the concept of karma from Buddhism, the Upanishads and
Vedic sacrifice. The concept of karma means action. In Vedic sacrifice and the Upanishads, karma is
associated with a ritual action. It was believed that by having rituals being performed by saints on
their behalf, one could improve the quality of their rebirth in the next life. The sacrificer would ask the
gods for strength, wealth, children, and immortality. In the Upanishads, karma is also associated to the
ideas of atman, self soul, and brahman, soul. The purpose of jnana yoga is to achieve the Upanishads
core teachings of the equivalence of the atman and the brahman. The Buddha changed the concept of

Teacher Resistance Can Cause Barriers When Implementing...
History of Resistance
Technology is not a modern, 21st century word. Technology has been in our society, and our
classrooms for that matter, for quite some time. According to Seattler (1990) integration of televisions
into the classroom started in the 1950 s and has evolved to bigger and better things since then.
When first introduced, televisions were given put in classrooms with the expectation that when turned
on, teaching practices would be transformed and problems in instruction and student performance
would be solved. This movement was met by resistance, as described by Cuban (1986); teachers were
not willing to integrate this technology into their teaching practices. Not only were teachers untrained

One must try an idea out, fail or succeed, then evaluate the effectiveness by analyzing the results.
After this process, a decision about future activities can be made, and then taken through the same
process.
Once examined further, it is not merely a time issue, but also an educator comfort issue. If given a task
of implementing technology with little or no training, then expected to transform student thinking in
new and exciting ways, one cannot blame a teacher for feeling overwhelmed and perhaps resistant to
doing so. The current system must be examined and addressed as technology is being poured into
education at a fast rate, and districts must find a way to support teachers in this overwhelming
endeavor of not only learning the technology, but learning to teach with it.
Solution Number One
Teachers must be trained in a new type of pedagogy, one that involves the use of technology. As stated
by Cuban (2001) teachers end up using technology as means to mealy keep up with what they required
to do, such as check daily messages from administration and keep grades, communicate with the staff,
create letters to go home, and to create materials for their lessons such as handouts. Although this is a
form of using technology, it is far from the desired use of using the given classroom technology for
innovations in their teaching style.

Marine Mammal Protection Act Essay
Environmental laws play an important role in maintaining the earth and its resources; their goal is to
protect the environment. The Marine Mammal Protection Act of 1972 is a great example of the
government making an effort to protect marine life. The Marine Mammal Protection Act is also often
referred to as MMPA. This act made it illegal for anyone without a permit to take marine mammals
out of United States waters. This includes hunting, killing, capturing, and/or harassment of any marine
mammal. On October 21, 1972 President Richard Nixon signed this policy into effect. Richard Nixon
is an individual who has encouraged a lot more environmental laws to be passed. The Marine
Mammal Protection Act of 1972 was actually the first act that the United States Congress passed that
specifically asked an ecosystem to approach a natural resource with caution. This has never been done
before and President Nixon opened up the door for many more environmental laws to be passed.

Modeling The Agrometeorological Indices Of The Surface...
. Modeling the agrometeorological indices
The surface temperature (T0) product was not used because with a lower spatial resolution (1000 km),
there were cloud contaminations in some parts of the Minas Gerais state along the years. Instead, T0
was retrieved by residue in the radiation balance after having estimated the atmospheric and surface
emissivities (Teixeira et al., 2016a,b).
Cleugh et al. (2007) pointed out that the use of instantaneous measurements of the radiometric surface
temperature to calculate time averaged fluxes led to errors. They emphasized uncertainties in models
which use the MODIS 8 day that is a composite of once daily overpass at ~ 10:30 h local time. In this
case, the radiometric temperature is determined under a view angle at the satellite overpass time, using
emissivities based on vegetation classes at a 1 km grid that differs from that of the MODIS pixel
location.
The parameterizations involved in the agrometeorological indices by using the SAFER algorithm in
this chapter were done in Brazil with simultaneous satellite and field measurements, under strong
contrasting agro ecosystems and thermohydrological conditions throughout different years (Teixeira et
al., 2008, 2014a). In addition, acquiring T0 as residue in the radiation balance gives mutual
compensation, reducing possible errors in this model input parameter, and as in the upward and
downward longwave fluxes, they are self canceling. Moreover, a correction factor is applied to

Reflection On Mindfulness Meditation
Mindfulness
The second transformational practice that I chose to participate in for this course was mindfulness. I
decided to perform this in a meditative structure with similar goals to my first transformational
practice, which was a different form of meditation, and see which provided more benefit or was
simply a better fit for me. Decreasing my stress level and reducing work related anxiety were the two
primary objectives I was hoping to transform by engaging in this twice a week.
Through my personal experience with the mindfulness meditation, a lesson that I learned was that this
offered a substantial amount of stress relief. Not particularly attending to thoughts that enter my mind
and being mindful of the present, allowed stress from the day to dwindle away. I found the meditation
to be particularly effective on high stress days and this was a welcome event when I had a very hectic
day at work. Further, I discovered that in my case, this form of meditation was better at removing
stress than utilizing a mantra meditative technique. Another lesson learned was that mindfulness
meditation did not lessen my work anxiety to any great degree. It may have taken my mind off it
during the meditation practice, but I would feel some anxiousness soon afterwards as thoughts of work
began to prevail after my earnest focus during meditation came to an end. However, I think with more
time to develop the practice outside of a meditative setting, it is possible that this could be

Poetic Analysis Of The Song Graceland By Paul Simon
Poetic Analysis of Paul Simon s Graceland In the realm of music, words and melodies work together
in order to form a complete idea of an artist s work. However, by abandoning the melodies and
reading closely into the lyrics of a song, readers are able to draw meaning and make observations from
the text that could be overshadowed by its melodies. A fine example of a song where this method is
applicable is Paul Simon s Graceland. Examining the lyrics reveals the story of a man making a
pilgrimage to Elvis Presley s Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee in the same way a religious
person would journey to a holy site. Through usage of imagery, tone, and metaphorical devices
throughout allow this song to function as a comically surreal poem. ... Show more content on

His repetition of where he is going emphasizes its significance to him, similar to the way someone

Graceland! Memphis, Tennessee! Graceland is described as a place welcoming of people from
different walks of life, indicated by, Poorboys and Pilgrims with families / And we are going to
Graceland, (10 11). Here, the comically surreal notion of Graceland as a holy site is introduced with
tourists making pilgrimages to the estate with their families, with the hopes that they will take
something morally significant away from their journey. The narrator then reveals that, as a pilgrim to
Graceland, he too has a family he brings with him, My travelling companion is nine years old / He is
the child of my first marriage, (12 13). The diction here is indicative that the narrator is no longer in a
relationship with the child s mother, leaning towards the possibility that the narrator hopes to rekindle
a relationship with the child through their pilgrimage to Graceland, or that he is raising the child on his
own and sharing a road trip with him. He then says, But I ve reason to believe / We both will be
received / In Graceland, creating a hopeful tone sonically through the rhymes of believe and receive ,
which is contradicted by the ambiguous diction which alludes to the possibility that they could not be
received in Graceland

Essay On How Did The Roman Empire Divide
An Empire Divided When the massive civil conflict finally ended in 284. It was decided the empire
was too strained and large to be governed by one man in one city. It limited military power. And
created pockets where ambitious generals could become usurpers. No one wanted another Crisis. The
empire was split in two. The Western and Eastern Roman Empires, The West contained Rome, and the
provinces west of the Greek peninsula. The East, often called the Byzantine Empire due to the name
of its capital, with everything to the east. While this helped the governing process of Rome it did lead
to the downfall of the Western Empire. When the East split away, Western Rome lost a significant part
of its territory that generated money for the empire. Most of Western Rome was agricultural with the
exception of North Africa and western Hispania. Both of which would later be taken over by the
Vandals. Western Rome could not sustain itself without the support of the Eastern Empire. Religious

Pros And Cons Of Undocumented Immigrants
The United States has been home to thousands of immigrants, whether they are documented or
undocumented. The debate that will be discussed is whether or not undocumented immigrants deserve
to stay, and who should be granted amnesty for coming here illegally. On one side, it is believed that
those who have been residing in the United States for a long period of time deserve to stay and gain
citizenship. However, on the opposing, it is argued that it is not morally right for these people to stay
because they have broken the law and have came here illegally. Moreover, I believe that those who
have been in the United States for longer than 5 years, or who have come over as children are entitled
to earn citizenship. First, undocumented children who have come into the United States are known as
Dreamers . During Obama s administration, a program called, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals
(DACA) granted identity documents, financial aid, and work permits to undocumented youth was
enacted in 2012. DACA allowed undocumented children to stay in the U.S. as long as they were under
the age of 15 when they came to America, they have no criminal record, and they are currently
enrolled in either school or the U.S. armed forces. There are roughly 800,000 undocumented
immigrants who arrived as youths (Camarota 12). In my view, Dreamers have the right to stay in the
United States because they did not come over by choice. The circumstances for their arrival to the
U.S. cannot be

My Vacation In Life
The feel of the hot sun beating down on my forehead. The sound of people cheering and chatting. The

down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents, my three brothers, and me, the car

During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on for hours and hours, we figured out all of the

The Effects Of Psychotropic Medications On Children
Psychotropic medications are usually, and perhaps, overly prescribed as a first line treatment for a
range of psychiatric analyses in children in a diversity of clinical settings. A psychotropic drug
(psychopharmaceutical) is a chemical material that changes brain function and results in adjustments
in perception, mood, or consciousness. Consequently, these alterations often cause a bevy of side
effects that create significant harm to prescribed patients. The brain of a child is infinitely more
sensitive and susceptible to side effects from psychotropic drugs which makes their use even more
dangerous. Adding further fuel to the fire, as Kardish states, Children in the United States are on drugs
for longer and more often than kids in any other country (2015). Together with this dark truth, the over
abundant usage and steadily increasing inclination towards psychotropic therapy amongst health
professionals, is eliciting a dire and troubling situation that must be addressed by the medical horizon.
Many children are diagnosed for having ADHD at a young age. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit
Hyperactivity Disorder. It is usually diagnosed because kids are not able to sit still in class and pay
attention, they have to be doing something at all times. The youngest children in the class are much
more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD (Gulli, 2012). They are young and lack maturity and it is

American Involvement Of Foreign Affairs Essay
American Involvement In Foreign Affairs
Kennith Raba
For the longest time America has been known to ally with foreign countries, or be involved with few
disputes in other countries. Yes, we need to trade and keep peace. However, what is better peace or to
not be involved at all? Now, is a circumstance where we are stuck in Iraq and Afghan over issues such
as terroristic activities but why did they start? America does have its own gas storage, not only that but
there are areas where oil can be dug up from and bought from within borders and it could be sold
amongst the few of us, instead we bought it from the middle east and when they fought amongst each
other we got involved to keep the trade going, when it was none of our business. Yes World Peace is a
great concept, But it doesn t work, there will always be problems and trying to fix them only seems to

used to help end civil wars or so on, it s not our business, and most definitely not our problem but due

The Importance Of Physical Beauty In The Renaissance Era
Society s perception of love changes constantly. As a result, poems of different time periods have
different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s But
love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love during the
Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and Robert
Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a positive and
negative way. In the Modern Period, a shift occurs in both marriage and love with a greater emphasis
on true love and inner beauty. William Butler Yeats When You Are Old and Edna St. Vincent Millay s

In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find
love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest
flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower,
her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No
one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other
flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty,
but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This
poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never
find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the
Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and
relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. During
this era, there was a continual belief in lust and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that
husbands showed their wives (Hughes). Wilfrid Scawen Blunt depicts this continual fascination of lust
and beauty in his poem, I See You Juliet . The

Correlation Between Income Inequality And Homicide Rates
ABSTRACT
This project will analyze the connection between income inequality and homicide rates. The data from
Federal Bureau of Investigation s Uniformed Crime Report (UCR) and National Crime Victimization
Survey (NCVS) will be analyzed and the areas of highest homicide rates will be found. The income
level of each region will be found by using the data from U.S Census Bureau. This project will also
discuss why there is a connection between income inequality and crimes. It is predicted that people
who live in suburban areas and do not have access to their basic needs are tend to commit crimes that
are more violent.
INTRODUCTION:
In today s society, we regard the crime as a number one social problem facing us. The level of crime
can be helpful to understand the sense of well being of a society. Many people believe crime occurs
differently in each society based on its citizen s conditions of living. Income inequality is one factor
related to quality of life and higher rates of crimes. Economic struggle and poverty may lead to other
problems such as drug abuse, dissolution of family bonds, and even crimes. When communities with
higher economic problems don t have access to enough resources to educate their youth, they cannot
fight the social disorganization. People living in poverty are disadvantaged and cannot sustain their
basic needs and therefore, they tend to commit violent crimes in order to make money to sustain these
needs. Since they do not have any educational

International Capitalism
Globalization may be an overused word, although the new version of international capitalism is still so
recent that the actual system on the ground has outrun the scientific and theoretical vocabulary that
describes it. As a system, international capitalism is rapidly eliminating geographical and political
boundaries, as Marx predicted in the 19th Century. In the global, postmodern economy, branding also
involves relentless synergy and tie ins between various diverse lines of products. Films and cartoons
market their images to toy companies, fast food restaurants and cereal manufacturers, generating
billions of dollars of revenue annually, as does the commerce in seeds, genetic materials and even
human body parts. Western science and technology have been synonymous with modernization and
development in India and other Asian nations, even though this paradigm ignores the historical and
cultural that has existed in many civilizations over the centuries.
In No Logo, Naomi Klein was highly critical of globalized capitalism and the consolidation of giant
corporations and highly standardized brands and chain stores like Wal Mart, the Gap and Starbucks.
All of these companies are not attempting to become that one overarching brand under which we
consume, make art, [and] even build our homes (Klein 1999, 2009, p. 130). Even the retail outlets are
completely uniform and clone like, with one Kinko s, Blockbuster or McDonald s looking basically
like any of the others. By 1998,

Prevention And The Prevention Of Cancer
In an attempt to keep anyone from wasting their time reading an article that does not apply to them we
need to clearly define the subject of this article. If you are comfortable with waiting for a miracle drug
to cure cancer, expecting that early detection through any number of exams at your physicians office
followed by chemotherapy in an attempt to kill the now detectable cancer cells, then this article is not
for you. If however, you would prefer to avoid cancer totally by preventing it before it starts, then
please read on.
When addressing nutrition and the prevention of cancer one of the hottest topics in this arena at this
time are antioxidants. The primary reason that antioxidants have received increasing attention is based
on the very nature of cancer cells themselves, how they are started and more importantly how they can
be eliminated before becoming detectable. For most forms of cancer, they get their start when your
cell s DNA becomes damage in some form. Keep in mind that your body is generating new cells on a
daily basis and that these new cells are being created based on the blue print of how they should be
constructed. That blue print is your DNA. When your DNA has become damaged or during the
creation process of these new cells they come in contact with free radicals they are damaged.
Unchecked that damage begins going through an uncontrolled growth and at some point this once
damaged cells has now become a tumor.

Children s Child Welfare Reform Essay
In 1980, about 500,000 children were in foster care, but a series of successful reforms began with that
year s Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act which dramatically decreased the number of
children in foster care. But in the early 1990s, with the advent of crack cocaine and an economic
recession numbers went back up. Child welfare advocates said that the foster care system was in need
of changes so that children spend less time in foster placements and that America s child welfare
system needed an improvement. Some children in care were separated from their siblings, others
transitioned from one foster care placement to another, never knowing where to call home. Too many
children were being abused in systems that were supposed to protect them. Instead of being safely
reunified with their families or moved quickly into adoptive homes many remained in foster homes or
institutions for years.
In 2014, over 650,000 children spent time in the child welfare foster care system. On average, children
remain in state care for nearly two years and seven percent of children in foster care remain in foster
care for five years or more. The majority of children in foster care are very young, the average age of
children in care is around the age of nine. In 2014, more than half of children entering the United

Little Ice Age Analysis
The reading states that there were three theories that scientists proposed to be what caused the little ice
age, and provides three reasons of support. However, the professor opposes this by saying
unfortunately these three theories are outdated and scientists have been found new proposals, and
refutes each of the author`s reasons.
First, the passage talks about the causing may have been caused because of the oceans currents
disruption. Although, the professor refutes this and mentions the disruption that have been happened
only affected Europe and North America. Even though, there is no explanation why the little ice age
has been reached the Newzeland, and Africa. Eventually, as far as no explanation for that so this is not
the cause.

The sale of coffee creamer with this logo places the health of infants and children at risk in a
developing nation that already has extreme levels of malnutrition. The Bear Brand logo is responsible
for the deaths and developmental delay of many Lao children mistakenly fed inappropriate products as
breast milk substitute. Even though Nestlé puts the statement not to be used as a breast milk substitute
on Bear Brand coffee creamer in three languages, English, Lao and Thai, since Loas is a multilingual
country with more than 45 languages spoken, parents who cannot read those three languages may
misperceive and misuse Bear Brand coffee creamer as infant food by the logo of the product. After
analysis of Nestlé s unethical product development, Nestlé is recommended to implement the
following measures: * Instantly prevent the use of misleading logo in any context related to breast‐
milk substitute * Design new pictogram to alert illiterate consumers that the product is not breast milk
substitute to avoid further confusion * Make public apologize to show sincerity * Educate the public
that sweetened condensed milk cannot be used for feeding infant In conclusion, Nestlé misleading

On The Beach By Nevil Shute
In Nevil Shute s novel On the Beach, the world is quickly and quietly ending. The novel follows the
last months of the lives of the last people on Earth as a cloud of radiation moves closer to their homes
in Melbourne. The characters each cope with their inevitable demise in a different way: Moira
Davidson resorts to alcoholism, Dwight Towers is in denial, John Osbourne indulges in material
goods, and Peter Holmes tries to make the most of the time he has left with his family. Despite their
dissimilar coping strategies and the horror of the situation, however, not a single character does a thing
to save themselves or their families. No one theorizes a way to beat the radiation, no one devises a last
minute escape plan, and no one tries to keep humanity from going extinct. In his article, Tom Feller
asserts that whether it is truly a realistic portrayal of humanity s reaction to the apocalypse isn t the
point; instead, Shute s portrayal of the end times as calm and docile is what gives the novel such
forcefulness and emotion. Feller s claim that the novel s potency comes from Shute s detached voice
and unimaginative characters is proven by the characters reluctance to react to their fates, the sparse
description, and the reserved tone of the book overall. First of all, Shute refrains from inserting his
own political opinion or ideas on the demise of humanity, which allows more room for the readers to
come to their own conclusions instead of having the author s ideas

Military Child Essay
Korinda Rehling Rodriguez
ENG 098R 1053
FINAL DRAFT
Military Child: Brat
Pure hell took its course on me as a young innocent girl. Being a military brat definitely impacted my
life in many challenging ways. The term military brat is usually misunderstood by non military
population. A military brat is a child from a parent who is in the military. My mother was a
commanding officer which made me and my siblings labeled military brat The word brat (by itself)
may seem negative. However, we were taught that its not an insult but actually a term of endearment
and respect. Of course the military has a lot of traveling, family orientated, many free services, and
good food. Being a military brat was not all ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
If we moved she would distribute more lashings. My mother was mean and called her discipline tough
love . Yeah right, my ass it wasn t tough love. She could dissemble my door frame in five minutes
taking away my privacy when I would slam my door from anger.
She would turn off the electricity to my room so that there was no TV, curling irons, games, or any
luxury. The more my mother was a bitch the more I rebelled with braking my curfew, sneaking out,
hiding her badge, taking her files and hiding them. The consequences of misbehavior for a military
brat are generally greater than for a civilian children.
Being labeled a brat was not a choice by any means. However, due to the challenges I endured it has
shaped and molded me into the woman I am today. A woman with values, strength, great friendships,
and unconditional love for all. No longer that innocent girl thanks to the military who robbed me of
that innocence. And It makes want to spit when someone refers to me as a military brat. It s not a word
that means endearment or respect as we were taught.
It signifies Hell for

How Did Ethan Arnold Capture Fort Ticonderoga
Swiftly and stealthy the Green Mountain Boys, under the command of Ethan Allen and Benedict
Arnold, captured Fort Ticonderoga from the British on May 10, 1775. This decisive victory and
plundering of the fort gave the colonial troops much needed supplies and control of a British strategic
position. The capturing of Fort Ticonderoga played a key role in stopping supply lines, cutting British
communications, plundering artillery and munition, and capturing other forts and ships around Lake
Champlain.
On the night of May 9th 200 Green Mountain Boys assembled under Ethan Allen and Benedict Arnold
to capture Fort Ticonderoga. However only a small portion of the men could cross the lake to capture
the fort as there weren t enough boats for all the men. Fearful of losing the element of surprise Allen
and Arnold decided to attack with their small force. With only one sentry on duty the colonists
stormed the fort waking the men at gunpoint and disarming them. The captain was roused from his
chambers and surrendered his sword peacefully, with nobody dying during the assault. ... Show more

The British used this route to send supplies and men to New York from Quebec. The colonists sieging
Boston were concerned with reinforcements coming from Quebec to attack their exposed rear. This
was the first reason the idea of capturing the fort would prove useful. After the forts capture, colonial
forces were in control of a water highway that led directly into the heart of Quebec. The fort proved to
be an important staging ground for the subsequent battles that were to rally Quebec for colonial

  • 2. Contextual Theory Of Interethnic Communication Theory The distinction of the differences or similarities between the communicator and conversational partners can influence whether they chose to engage in association or dissociation. These dissimilarities and resemblances help to shape our perceptions of each other. Through the analysis of ethnic proximity, ethnic distance, shared goal structure, separate goal structure, and personal network integration, the situation layer of Kim s Interethnic Theory will be explored. A Contextual Theory of Interethnic Communication As conceptualized by Young Yun Kim, the interethnic communication theory describes the multifaceted layers and factors in communication event. Described as an open system, interethnic communication occurs between communicators and their interactant(s) who possess characteristic similarities or differences in terms of their ethnic or identity markers (Kim, 2005). There are four layers to her theory: behavior, communicator, situation, and environment. All of these layers contribute to how the communicator and their interactant decides to interact, whether it is associative or dissociative. This paper will focus on the situation layer. Implanted between the environment and communicator layer, the situation layer represents the interethnic encounter itself (Kim, 2005, p. 334). Essentially, it is describing the interaction between the communicator and their conversational partner(s). In this context, the communication can take form in many ways (e.g., verbal, ... I have always looked up to my father as a model and a reason to think about the life above the clouds. As I laid eyes on him wearing his flying suit, it opened my eyes to the aviation life, and an inspiration to enter the world of aviation. The transition of me entering this life was a video that ERAU broadcasted. • 4. The Challenges of Donation Management Essay As human beings, most of us have a natural instinct to take care of each other in a time of need. When someone falls, you stop and help them up. So when a disaster happens, people want to help and make everything alright. Those near and far to the disaster may show up and volunteer. Others want to help by supplying material needs to the victims of the hazard. They began making donations in the forms of food, water, clothing, medicines or other needed supplies called in kind donations or some donations are in the form of cash. The outpouring of giving can be overwhelming in a positive and negative way. Along with the hazard and its effects, someone has to manage the vast amount of donations by organizing and distributing to the needy ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The donated supplies need storing until distribution and when there is a large supply of donations, storage can become an issue. Buildings or warehouses may have to be rented to house the donations. Sometimes there are too many donations or too many of one particular item. Many times there are not enough donated items to meet needs. Other challenges include items not being suitable donations for a particular disaster area, for example coats in warm climates or damaged, expired or unlabeled medications. Distribution of the items also is a challenge. Sometimes getting the much needed supplies out to the vulnerable victims is difficult. All of these challenges mean extra work and can be very overwhelming for volunteers and emergency workers. (McEntire, 188 189) In an article by Dave Roos, he lists ten items that should not be donated for various reasons. These items are used clothing, blankets, teddy bears, shoes, medicines, pet supplies, boxes of mixed items, canned food and bottled water, unsolicited help, and your money to an unknown organization. When these items are donated, hardships can be presented. The material items have to be handled and inspected by trained volunteers which can become overwhelming. • 5. Isolation In The Painted Door And The Black Cat Gothic Fiction: Universal Isolation Isolation has a profound effect on the human psyche, it can motivate a man or drive him mad. Within The Painted Door and The Black Cat, isolation and its effects are present and those effects impact the characters actions. The Black Cat and The Painted Door are comparable in their showcase of humanities perverse capabilities, by using the gothic elements these capabilities are shown to lead to their downfall. For gothic fiction, gloom and horror are often personified through secondary outlets. In the case of The Painted Door, the gloom and isolation that John feels because of his wife s infidelity is personified through the white painted door, it is stated on the palm, white even against its frozen whiteness was a little smear of paint ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... John s wife imagines John walking in after she had slept with Steven, this paranoia stems from her knowing that she had betrayed the only person she knew and trusted. This vision sets up the climax, but it also reflects on her lack of certainty about the situation and this leads to her blaming herself for John s death and ultimately her being left in isolation. In The Black Cat however, the narrator holds an absolute certainty in the success of his plan to hide his wife s body, and ultimately his overconfidence is the root of his demise. While the narrators demise can be attributed to the cat as seen with I was answered by a voice from within the tomb! ... a cry the blame also falls on him for disrupting the cat and thus breaking his isolation driven confidence. The lab consisted of 6 compounds Dodecanoic Acid, Sodium Chloride, Duodecose, Octadecanoic Acid, Potassium Bromide and Amylose. Using these compounds, tests were conducted on their appearance, solubility in distilled water, conductivity and melting point. There are 3 groups these compounds can be organized into. One group is Dodecanoic Acid and Stearic Acid. Another group is Duodecose and Amylose and the last group is Sodium Chloride and Potassium Bromide. These compounds are put into these groups because of their similar structures and properties. Dodecanoic Acid and Octadecanoic Acid are in the same group because they are both made up long chains of carbon and carboxyl groups, and are non polar covalent bonds. In non polar covalent bonds electrons are shared equally, and held together by atoms. Both Dodecanoic Acid and Octadecanoic are made up of carbon, hydrogen and oxygen. The data shows they are insoluble, this is because of their long chains of carbon, and a carboxyl group (COOH) at the end causes them to have increasing hydrophobic which decreases their solubility in water. Year Of No Rain Quotes In the book Year of No Rain by Alice Mead, Stephen and Wol have different points of view on how they feel about their education. On Page 50 Wol states, I don t know, maybe we should go to Kenya. But, on page 41 Stephen says Wait a minute. I want to take my pencil with me. Where did it go? Naiomi help me look. Please? In this quote I am visualizing Stephen being frantic and speaking in a panicking tone. I can grab from this quote that Stephen, unlike Wol, is passionate and feels confident in his future because of the education he currently has. In the midway chapters of the book A Year of no Rain by Alice Mead, Wol changes the way he feel s towards Naomi. On page 19 he said, Stephen, do you think Naiomi likes me? This clearly makes Wol sound like he is in love with her. Then, when Naomi goes missing he is more focused on whether or not she is alive. On page 47 and 48 there is an argument between Wolf and stephen. Wol said, Your mother should have let naiomi come with us. They kidnap girls, I heard. Now, he is more grown up. • 9. Hotel California Poem Analysis Music as Poetry Essay The song, Hotel California , by the Eagles, is a very poetic song that uses imagery, and symbolism to bring out the theme in an indirect way of the speaker s personal issues of life. The Eagles use imagery to set the mood and tone of the song. Along with many aspects of symbolism to input a lot of double meaning throughout the whole song. With both imagery and symbolism incorporated, many fans or people who have heard of this song would believe that the theme of this song is about a lonely traveler trying to break his own temptations. In the first verse of the introduction of the song, imagery is used for the audience to imagine what exactly is being told. As almost as if it was a setting in a play or a scene in a movie. In the first verse the first two set of lines says, On a dark desert highway, cool wind in my hair. Warm smell of colitas, rising up through the air. (Eagles, Lines 1 2). One can already imagine the speaker driving down a dark desert highway, with his windows rolled down perhaps, and smelling the warm air full of desert flowers, or maybe he is smelling marijuana in the air. This could be because colitas is Spanish slang for a bud of cannabis, but it could also mean desert flowers, (Philpot). These first two lines already sets the mood of a restless traveler who needs a place to stay for the night after a long day of driving. It also hints that there could possibly be drugs or other temptations in this song considering colitas ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Ford Motor Company has been traditionally considered one of the Big Three in the auto industry, but they are not adapting as well as hoped to the changing industry, and will have to strategize to survive in a struggling industry. There are many different risk factors for Ford and its competitors. In this paper we will look at two competitors for Ford that are also considered to be members of the Big Three and coincidently, are not adapting to changes in the auto industry as quickly as other competitors. These other companies are General Motors (GM) and Daimler Chrysler. We will ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ford feels that although steps have been taken to lower their health care expenses, the cost to the company will continue to rise for the foreseeable future. Foreign car manufacturers have on average lower health care and employee costs, giving them an advantage over Ford, GM, and Daimler Chrysler. Ford Motor Co is hoping to take steps to offset the costs of employee benefits; however, this could also lead to negative publicity for the company. Foreign auto makers are able to maintain lower costs with non unionized and on average, younger employees. The next risk factor for the auto industry is commodity and energy price increases. Steel and resin (plastic) are the two most used commodities for auto manufacturers, and they are products in high demand for many industries. Rising awareness of sustainability and rising demand for these products has lead to recent price increases, and it is estimated to continue this trend. This factor targets all of the auto industry, but again hits the big three and other auto manufacturers harder then it does some of the foreign car manufacturers. Japanese auto makers have long been seen as efficient smaller car manufacturers, where the big three have moved to the larger SUV type vehicle. By building smaller vehicles, Japanese auto makers reduce their dependency and therefore their costs on steel and resin. The second risk coming from the comparative sizes of vehicles being manufactured by the auto makers is the cost ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It is beneficial for me to reflect on my learning and practice in the past few weeks in the areas of class reading and teaching, triads, meeting with directees in sessions and supervision. My class reading and teaching in the last few weeks provide me with a solid idea about spiritual direction. My understanding is that in the spiritual direction session, the director is to listen to on an ongoing conversation between the directee and God. The Holy Spirit has already been working in the life of directee before the session and will continue to be at work after the session is over. The emphasis of spiritual direction will be to enhance the relationship between the directee and God. In a spiritual direction session, typical questions asked are Where is God in this? or Where has God gone and why don t I sense any divine presence at all? I learn to know that spiritual direction arises out of inviting and listening to God. One thing I am in tension with myself and need to be reminded constantly is that I should not have the attitude or expectation to resolve the issue mentioned in the session. The focus of the session should be about what goes on between the directee and God. It is a story about the discourse between Arjuna, a prince, and Lord Krishna, who is an incarnation of the highest of all divinity, creator of the entire universe. In the book, Arjuna is confused about his duty, dharma, to the law of an elite warrior and kinship. It is Krishna who helps guide and encourage Arjuna to follow his true path, svadharma. The book discusses three broad ways to live: devotion to god (bhakti), karma, and jnana yoga which is practice and discipline. The Bhagavad Gita adapts and reformulates many ideas of soul, karma, and ritual from Vedic sacrifice, the Upanishads, and Buddhism. These three concepts are the major themes and are all interrelated with one another. The Bhagavad Gita adopts and adapts the concept of karma from Buddhism, the Upanishads and Vedic sacrifice. The concept of karma means action. In Vedic sacrifice and the Upanishads, karma is associated with a ritual action. It was believed that by having rituals being performed by saints on their behalf, one could improve the quality of their rebirth in the next life. The sacrificer would ask the gods for strength, wealth, children, and immortality. In the Upanishads, karma is also associated to the ideas of atman, self soul, and brahman, soul. Technology has been in our society, and our classrooms for that matter, for quite some time. According to Seattler (1990) integration of televisions into the classroom started in the 1950 s and has evolved to bigger and better things since then. When first introduced, televisions were given put in classrooms with the expectation that when turned on, teaching practices would be transformed and problems in instruction and student performance would be solved. This movement was met by resistance, as described by Cuban (1986); teachers were not willing to integrate this technology into their teaching practices. If given a task of implementing technology with little or no training, then expected to transform student thinking in new and exciting ways, one cannot blame a teacher for feeling overwhelmed and perhaps resistant to doing so. The current system must be examined and addressed as technology is being poured into education at a fast rate, and districts must find a way to support teachers in this overwhelming endeavor of not only learning the technology, but learning to teach with it. Solution Number One Teachers must be trained in a new type of pedagogy, one that involves the use of technology. As stated by Cuban (2001) teachers end up using technology as means to mealy keep up with what they required to do, such as check daily messages from administration and keep grades, communicate with the staff, create letters to go home, and to create materials for their lessons such as handouts. Although this is a form of using technology, it is far from the desired use of using the given classroom technology for innovations in their teaching style. ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Modeling the agrometeorological indices The surface temperature (T0) product was not used because with a lower spatial resolution (1000 km), there were cloud contaminations in some parts of the Minas Gerais state along the years. Instead, T0 was retrieved by residue in the radiation balance after having estimated the atmospheric and surface emissivities (Teixeira et al., 2016a,b). Cleugh et al. (2007) pointed out that the use of instantaneous measurements of the radiometric surface temperature to calculate time averaged fluxes led to errors. They emphasized uncertainties in models which use the MODIS 8 day that is a composite of once daily overpass at ~ 10:30 h local time. In this case, the radiometric temperature is determined under a view angle at the satellite overpass time, using emissivities based on vegetation classes at a 1 km grid that differs from that of the MODIS pixel location. The parameterizations involved in the agrometeorological indices by using the SAFER algorithm in this chapter were done in Brazil with simultaneous satellite and field measurements, under strong contrasting agro ecosystems and thermohydrological conditions throughout different years (Teixeira et al., 2008, 2014a). In addition, acquiring T0 as residue in the radiation balance gives mutual compensation, reducing possible errors in this model input parameter, and as in the upward and downward longwave fluxes, they are self canceling. Decreasing my stress level and reducing work related anxiety were the two primary objectives I was hoping to transform by engaging in this twice a week. Through my personal experience with the mindfulness meditation, a lesson that I learned was that this offered a substantial amount of stress relief. Not particularly attending to thoughts that enter my mind and being mindful of the present, allowed stress from the day to dwindle away. I found the meditation to be particularly effective on high stress days and this was a welcome event when I had a very hectic day at work. Further, I discovered that in my case, this form of meditation was better at removing stress than utilizing a mantra meditative technique. Another lesson learned was that mindfulness meditation did not lessen my work anxiety to any great degree. It may have taken my mind off it during the meditation practice, but I would feel some anxiousness soon afterwards as thoughts of work began to prevail after my earnest focus during meditation came to an end. A fine example of a song where this method is applicable is Paul Simon s Graceland. Here, the comically surreal notion of Graceland as a holy site is introduced with tourists making pilgrimages to the estate with their families, with the hopes that they will take something morally significant away from their journey. The narrator then reveals that, as a pilgrim to Graceland, he too has a family he brings with him, My travelling companion is nine years old / He is the child of my first marriage, (12 13). The diction here is indicative that the narrator is no longer in a relationship with the child s mother, leaning towards the possibility that the narrator hopes to rekindle a relationship with the child through their pilgrimage to Graceland, or that he is raising the child on his own and sharing a road trip with him. He then says, But I ve reason to believe / We both will be received / In Graceland, creating a hopeful tone sonically through the rhymes of believe and receive , which is contradicted by the ambiguous diction which alludes to the possibility that they could not be received in Graceland ... The debate that will be discussed is whether or not undocumented immigrants deserve to stay, and who should be granted amnesty for coming here illegally. On one side, it is believed that those who have been residing in the United States for a long period of time deserve to stay and gain citizenship. However, on the opposing, it is argued that it is not morally right for these people to stay because they have broken the law and have came here illegally. Moreover, I believe that those who have been in the United States for longer than 5 years, or who have come over as children are entitled to earn citizenship. First, undocumented children who have come into the United States are known as Dreamers . During Obama s administration, a program called, Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) granted identity documents, financial aid, and work permits to undocumented youth was enacted in 2012. DACA allowed undocumented children to stay in the U.S. as long as they were under the age of 15 when they came to America, they have no criminal record, and they are currently enrolled in either school or the U.S. armed forces. There are roughly 800,000 undocumented immigrants who arrived as youths (Camarota 12). In my view, Dreamers have the right to stay in the United States because they did not come over by choice. The circumstances for their arrival to the U.S. cannot be ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The taste of the delicious sample of fudge that I was just given from a small shop. I come across a huge billboard in bold blue letters. Where am I? I have just arrived in Branson, Missouri, where my family and I plan to have an amazing vacation away from home. To arrive in Branson, we first had to drive down to Missouri in my mom s silver van. As it was my parents, my three brothers, and me, the car was very crowded with all of our belongings that we needed for the trip crammed into the car with us. During the long and arduous car ride that dragged on for hours and hours, we figured out all of the activities that we hope to attend throughout the week of our trip. After discussing all of our plans, we decide that we will go to Silver Dollar City, which is an amusement park, a waterpark called White Water, and many stores including Branson s Landing, Tanger Outlets and the Five and Dimes store. My dad is very organized, and he is also a perfectionist. He takes out a yellow lined notebook and writes down a list of everything we are going to do for each day of the four day long vacation. As he finishes, we finally arrive in Branson, so we quickly check in, grab our room keys, and take all of our belongings up to our room. In my opinion, I believe that unpacking everything and taking it up the five flights of stairs where our room is located is the worst part of the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 31. The Effects Of Psychotropic Medications On Children Psychotropic medications are usually, and perhaps, overly prescribed as a first line treatment for a range of psychiatric analyses in children in a diversity of clinical settings. A psychotropic drug (psychopharmaceutical) is a chemical material that changes brain function and results in adjustments in perception, mood, or consciousness. Consequently, these alterations often cause a bevy of side effects that create significant harm to prescribed patients. The brain of a child is infinitely more sensitive and susceptible to side effects from psychotropic drugs which makes their use even more dangerous. Adding further fuel to the fire, as Kardish states, Children in the United States are on drugs for longer and more often than kids in any other country (2015). Together with this dark truth, the over abundant usage and steadily increasing inclination towards psychotropic therapy amongst health professionals, is eliciting a dire and troubling situation that must be addressed by the medical horizon. Many children are diagnosed for having ADHD at a young age. ADHD stands for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. It is usually diagnosed because kids are not able to sit still in class and pay attention, they have to be doing something at all times. The youngest children in the class are much more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD (Gulli, 2012). They are young and lack maturity and it is misinterpreted for ADHD. Now, is a circumstance where we are stuck in Iraq and Afghan over issues such as terroristic activities but why did they start? America does have its own gas storage, not only that but there are areas where oil can be dug up from and bought from within borders and it could be sold amongst the few of us, instead we bought it from the middle east and when they fought amongst each other we got involved to keep the trade going, when it was none of our business. As a result, poems of different time periods have different perceptions of love and beauty. Ben Jonson s A Vision of Beauty and Samuel Daniel s But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again reflect the importance of physical beauty in love during the Renaissance Era. In the Victorian Period, Wilfrid Scawen Blunt s I See You Juliet and Robert Browning s A Face continue to reflect society s fascination with female beauty in both a positive and negative way. In his poem, But love whilst that thou mayst be loved again , he focuses on warning women to find love soon because beauty will not last with age. He compares a woman s beauty to a flower: the fairest flower that ever saw the light / men do not weigh the stalk for what it was / when they find her flower, her glory, pass (Daniel 6, 13 14). Through this metaphor, he shows how men view beauty in love. No one looks at a dead flower and thinks about what it used to be, rather, he or she looks towards other flowers that bloom with life and colour. This sonnet begins as an admiration for his subject s beauty, but it ends by telling the subject that when her physical beauty deteriorates, no one will love her. This poem reflects society s fixation on superficial beauty because it reminds women that they will never find love without external beauty, as a result of the superficiality of men in society. Both poems of the Renaissance Period assert the idea of perfection and the importance of physical beauty in love and relationships. Victorian era poets continue to propound the importance of superficial beauty. During this era, there was a continual belief in lust and sexual desires, evident in the rampant disloyalty that husbands showed their wives (Hughes). In all of the states that passed the law there are strict guidelines as to how can access the law and in many cases the laws have not changed since they were passed. The laws come from the idea that terminally ill people should be able to control how they suffer and ultimately how they die without interference from the government, religious organizations, or other external sources of policy. Although a patient may have the lethal dose of prescription provided by their physician under the law in their possession they have absolutely no obligation to use it and in many they don t. Many people believe crime occurs differently in each society based on its citizen s conditions of living. Income inequality is one factor related to quality of life and higher rates of crimes. Economic struggle and poverty may lead to other problems such as drug abuse, dissolution of family bonds, and even crimes. When communities with higher economic problems don t have access to enough resources to educate their youth, they cannot fight the social disorganization. International Capitalism Globalization may be an overused word, although the new version of international capitalism is still so recent that the actual system on the ground has outrun the scientific and theoretical vocabulary that describes it. As a system, international capitalism is rapidly eliminating geographical and political boundaries, as Marx predicted in the 19th Century. In the global, postmodern economy, branding also involves relentless synergy and tie ins between various diverse lines of products. Films and cartoons market their images to toy companies, fast food restaurants and cereal manufacturers, generating billions of dollars of revenue annually, as does the commerce in seeds, genetic materials and even human body parts. Western science and technology have been synonymous with modernization and development in India and other Asian nations, even though this paradigm ignores the historical and cultural that has existed in many civilizations over the centuries. In No Logo, Naomi Klein was highly critical of globalized capitalism and the consolidation of giant corporations and highly standardized brands and chain stores like Wal Mart, the Gap and Starbucks. All of these companies are not attempting to become that one overarching brand under which we consume, make art, [and] even build our homes (Klein 1999, 2009, p. 130). Prevention And The Prevention Of Cancer In an attempt to keep anyone from wasting their time reading an article that does not apply to them we need to clearly define the subject of this article. If you are comfortable with waiting for a miracle drug to cure cancer, expecting that early detection through any number of exams at your physicians office followed by chemotherapy in an attempt to kill the now detectable cancer cells, then this article is not for you. If however, you would prefer to avoid cancer totally by preventing it before it starts, then please read on. When addressing nutrition and the prevention of cancer one of the hottest topics in this arena at this time are antioxidants. The primary reason that antioxidants have received increasing attention is based on the very nature of cancer cells themselves, how they are started and more importantly how they can be eliminated before becoming detectable. For most forms of cancer, they get their start when your cell s DNA becomes damage in some form. Keep in mind that your body is generating new cells on a daily basis and that these new cells are being created based on the blue print of how they should be constructed. That blue print is your DNA. When your DNA has become damaged or during the creation process of these new cells they come in contact with free radicals they are damaged. Unchecked that damage begins going through an uncontrolled growth and at some point this once damaged cells has now become a tumor. While there is a lot of talk about ... Children s Child Welfare Reform Essay In 1980, about 500,000 children were in foster care, but a series of successful reforms began with that year s Adoption Assistance and Child Welfare Act which dramatically decreased the number of children in foster care. But in the early 1990s, with the advent of crack cocaine and an economic recession numbers went back up. Child welfare advocates said that the foster care system was in need of changes so that children spend less time in foster placements and that America s child welfare system needed an improvement. Some children in care were separated from their siblings, others transitioned from one foster care placement to another, never knowing where to call home. Too many children were being abused in systems that were supposed to protect them. Instead of being safely reunified with their families or moved quickly into adoptive homes many remained in foster homes or institutions for years. In 2014, over 650,000 children spent time in the child welfare foster care system. On average, children remain in state care for nearly two years and seven percent of children in foster care remain in foster care for five years or more. The majority of children in foster care are very young, the average age of children in care is around the age of nine. • 46. On The Beach By Nevil Shute In Nevil Shute s novel On the Beach, the world is quickly and quietly ending. The novel follows the last months of the lives of the last people on Earth as a cloud of radiation moves closer to their homes in Melbourne. The characters each cope with their inevitable demise in a different way: Moira Davidson resorts to alcoholism, Dwight Towers is in denial, John Osbourne indulges in material goods, and Peter Holmes tries to make the most of the time he has left with his family. Despite their dissimilar coping strategies and the horror of the situation, however, not a single character does a thing to save themselves or their families. No one theorizes a way to beat the radiation, no one devises a last minute escape plan, and no one tries to keep humanity from going extinct. In his article, Tom Feller asserts that whether it is truly a realistic portrayal of humanity s reaction to the apocalypse isn t the point; instead, Shute s portrayal of the end times as calm and docile is what gives the novel such forcefulness and emotion. Feller s claim that the novel s potency comes from Shute s detached voice and unimaginative characters is proven by the characters reluctance to react to their fates, the sparse description, and the reserved tone of the book overall. First of all, Shute refrains from inserting his own political opinion or ideas on the demise of humanity, which allows more room for the readers to come to their own conclusions instead of having the author s ideas ... This decisive victory and plundering of the fort gave the colonial troops much needed supplies and control of a British strategic position. The capturing of Fort Ticonderoga played a key role in stopping supply lines, cutting British communications, plundering artillery and munition, and capturing other forts and ships around Lake Champlain.
